Something that is never mentioned much in the fandom is that Mono is around 10 and he already uses his hats as a means to “protect himself from the world”, he is so young and he already has a jaded view of the world (I don’t blame him) and he immediately takes a mentor role towards Six.

I always saw Mono as someone who build mental walls in order to protect himself.

It always seems to me that this was what his hats and the tower represented to him

There are a lot of symbolism of closed doors and broken things through Mono’s journey (I could write a whole essay on this)

It really gives me the impression that he is just a kid who closed himself as a means to protect himself, I think his whole journey in ln2 was about him trying to change this and maybe finally open up and confront the world.

But we all know what happened by the end of the game and I’m 100% sure it only ended up reinforcing his worst gears.

I think this is what the enclosed room and the tower means.

The thin man is just Mono who used more extreme means to protect himself, in a way he never let go of “his paper bag” it just took on a more drastic and different form

Mono always seemed like the type of kid who had to grow up too fast and yet because he had such a warped view of what a grown up was supposed to be like, this may be why his main “antagonist/monster” is a grown up version of him.

To me this is a internal conflict made external.

And his own ending contrast so much with Six’s

And if Mono were to aboard the train, I can’t even imagine how big his number would be.
