sokka gets offered the position of chief first because he’s the eldest and (let’s be real) hakoda’s favorite, but he immediately turns it down bc he has no idea why he’d even be offered that position in the first place when katara is right there. and katara is like “i should not be chief it is simply in my nature to rebel against all forms of authority but if I AM Authority then who am i supposed to rebel against now??? huh???” and sokka’s just like “idk. figure it out.” and eventually she relents, but also the second she “takes office” sokka starts micromanaging her every move the way he does with zuko and kuei and everyone in the white lotus, and katara is like “why did you even turn it down if you were just gonna be like this….” and sokka’s like “nooooo trust me. this is so much better. for both of us.” and eventually they learn to strike a balance where she actually takes his advice but also he trusts her to make good decisions on her own. so they’re basically co-running the swt in everything but name, but they’re also both very insistent that KATARA is chief and sokka is simply her second in command (because he knows that distinction is important to her, and he respects that). but then it leads to the kind of awkward situation where because he’s not officially chief of the swt, arnook approaches him and is like “hey i’m getting kinda old, and i don’t really have any official heirs…. can we just say that you married yue so that you can be chief of the nwt once i die???” and sokka’s just like “ummm let me think about that……… no <3”

The Deck of the Moby Dick laid quiet, not even the talk of the night watch to be heard. Only the sound of the waves crashing against the ship and the port they had stopped at could be heard.

Perhaps that’s why they thought that the night watch would hear the sound of their heartbeat as they hung from one of the lower sails, preparing to jump again to the next one, trying to evade the sharp eyes of the night watch. They regretted not checking which of their brothers would be leading the night watch today, as now they had to hide from the two who had the best eyesight and ability to spot moving targets, Izou and Curiel.

But they couldn’t back down now, not when they had gotten so close to sneaking off the ship. They would only jump one more time, and then they would be off the boat.

“Heh, I'm so closed!” They grinned

That feeling was short-lived as once they made their final jump, a familiar shock traveled through their air, breaking their balance and causing them to fail the jump, only to something to catch their fall.

“Where are you going, twerp?”

They wince at the booming voice, turning on their palm to face him

“Ummm, Hi Papaw….” The child mutters

He narrows his eyes at them as they drop them to the ground, ignoring the yelp they made as he did.

“Ow… Listen, Papaw, it’s not what it looks like?”

“You’re going to tell me one of my children was not sneaking out of the ship at this time of night.”

“I had a good reason!”

“What?”

“There are fireflies on this Island, Papaw! I’ve never seen them; everyone always says how beautiful the sight is.”

“You tried to sneak into a dangerous Island alone, at the darkest time, to see some insects?”

“Umm…pretty insects?” The child tried to fix it with a nervous smile

“You’re grounded.”

“Okay,” they said, slumping down defeatedly, a pout on their lips

“Seeing as we can’t trust you to stay in the quarters, you are to stay with one of your brothers for the rest of our time here. Go to the Crow’s nest, and you'll spend the night with Izou.”

“Yes, Papaw…”

Izou lets out a chuckle at the sight of the frowning child who had taken to sitting down knowing the crow’s nest

“It’s not funny!”

“I beg to differ,” he said with a smile

“You know, if you had asked, I doubt he would have said no to taking you to see them.”

“As if! He and all of you are so overprotective he wouldn’t have risked the chance of me going out on an island like this.”

“You do have to understand our point of view, Dokucha; you are our youngest sibling; you’re only a child.”

“I know that,” they grumble, pulling their knees to their chest and placing their head on top of them

“But I just wanted to see them, only once. We usually only stop on Papaw’s lands, and his lands don’t have these views.”

“Come here,” he said, lifting them up and sitting them in the railing of the nest

“Don’t say I never do anything for you,” he said, handing them a spyglass

They glanced at him hesitantly, looking over the spyglass only to come up with nothing, simply the dark land staring him across the instrument

“Gee, Thanks; I‘ve always wanted to look at grass at night…are you just rubbing it in?”

“Just keep looking,” he mutters, ignoring the kid’s jabs as he pulls out his Flintlock and fires a shot toward the land

Just like that, a blanket of fireflies welcomed them as the fireflies scattered from their hiding spots among the grass, trees, and bushes to escape the sudden movement

Dokucha looks in awe as the fireflies flicker around, giving the coast an ethereal glow as the insects flew around, some illuminating the crashing waves, the blue sea below them reflecting the light in a show of lights orchestrated by mother nature.

“Wow…”

“Still think it’s just grass at night.”

They take their eyes off the spyglass to look at Izou

“Thank you, Big Brother! It’s everything I thought it would be and more,” he awed, returning his attention to the spyglass

In response, the Sniper ruffled their hair

“Anything for our little sibling.”

I hate when parents complain about their kids on TV/etc, like when you can see their face and or identify them in general, because I always think like... what if the kids see?? "It's so hard and difficult living with my kid and sometimes I really really hate them and/or wish they were different." Why would you say that where your kid could see. Hello. Hello?

jesus christttt im not surprised at all to hear that the knuckles series focuses on wade and other human characters a lot i saw this coming a mile away with how almost all the news we were getting before the trailer came out was about the human characters/actors and not about knuckles (or sonic or tails or any other animated characters) but the fact that somebody calculated how many minutes of screentime knuckles has and it came out as LESS THAN HALF OF THE ENTIRE SERIES' RUNTIME when the series is NAMED after him is ridiculous. after this show comes out wade will likely have more screentime and overall plot relevance in the entire scu than tails does. did they actually think wade is a popular enough character for people to be down with this. what the fuck

#was gonna pirate the series but at this rate i might not watch it at all LMAO or at the very least only watch the parts with team sonic #because my interest in this series is dropping every second and i already wasnt very interested in it.#and i love knuckles so you know theyre doing something wrong if knuckles getting his own series isnt interesting me #the thing about wade is i dont even hate the idea of human characters. i dont think its bad for human characters to be present #and i dont think its bad for them to be involved in the plot and have relationships with the existing sonic characters #i personally didnt mind the wedding subplot in the second movie and i know a lot of people hated it #but. it becomes a problem when the random humans are overshadowing the characters people are actually here to see #like the show is literally called knuckles and all the marketing focuses on knuckles but its mostly about wade. allegedly.#and . i wouldnt have minded knuckles having a human costar. but again. they should be getting equal or less focus not more.#and also. its fucking wade who cares about wade enough to want this. would have been more forgiving if it was maddie or jojo or something #because i actually care about those characters. and also theyre not cops #for a moment i was willing to believe that the complaints about wade having way more screentime than knuckles #were a little exaggerated since a lot of people just get mad when the human characters have any screentime at all #but then i saw the article showing that knuckles really did show up for less than half the show and i was like Ummm. nostalgia for a lost past is like largely morally neutral i think it's more in how that past is imagined (and how much we acknowledge that the past is inherently imaginary) where we start to see issues but its like. really really weird to see how many self-styled left wing people seem to feel that reminiscing over a charming and idyllic is somehow inherently progressive. like what does the word progressive mean on its most fundamental level come ON.

#a part of me feels like saying miyazaki is reactionary as hell #whichwould be reinforced by his takes on female animators #and everything about the wind rises . .. . . . .. .. . .#but the other partof me is like well provided that the past is owned up to as an imaginary thats paradoxically only beautiful BECAUSE we ar #no longer in it etc etc etc then its probably fine #but its like really confusing and jarring to see people hold the opinionn like #miyazaki films are good/moral/left wing because they long to return to a past which is good/moral/communal. according to their own logic.#ummm. guy who has literally never encountered fascism before? shfiushgdfg #my biggest learning curve for myself rn is recognising that Emotion which gives rise to reactionary behaviour is not criminal #and even if it were its not possible to repress that emotion #so better to honestly address it than try and force yourself to pretend its not there. like yeah nostalgia is a huge part of most fascist #movements but the best way to counteract that is to be like yes i long for this imagined world or i think the past was great because i was #child there and less aware of The Horrors etc.#rather than like pretend you dont harbour that feeling at all. so thats why with revival moments im always like PLEASE JUST BE HONEST THAT #YOURE A REVIVAL.#i completely understand why u want to wear flower crowns and skip around in a field!!!! just dont be like 'im retvrning to the natural ways #of my ancestors'

something a lot of band fanbases on tumblr do that really irritates me is that they'll post a photo no ones ever seen before with no context and then caption it with a woefully unfunny one liner and then when you ask them the context of the photo 6 times out of 10 they will not answer or not give you a source for the photo. and like they assume everyone knows waht the photo is from already. andif you dont then youre just an idiot i guess. info sharing in band fandoms in general has always been kind of an enemy to me. like am i crazy or do so many fans leave other fans in the dark about stuff and gatekeep things like photos or interviews or information in general. its so odd. maybe i am crazy. i have insecurity issues so maybe im imagining things. maybe im just projecting or something. i dont know. not sure
