Today’s batch of replies~ Since we had a Crewel day yesterday, there are some asks related to him (and Trein) in here. But as always, also a bunch of miscellaneous ones…
Anonymous asked:
I want to eat your art respectfully with a side of salad and a few cups of wine. Your newest picture of Divus got me remembering why I chose to be 🐩 anon despite being GloMas anon for awhile. Got me barking and being absolutely feral, I wish he'd walk me like a dog 🫠
Ah 🐩 anon, you’re as kind as always. Thank you so much!
From the GloMas anon to the pup anon, just the way Divus would have wanted it lol I’m very happy you liked how he turned out!
Anonymous asked:
This randomly came to me in the form of a nap, enjoy.
Crewel sleeps with Trein but Trein isn't as flexible nor springy as the normal people Crewel fucks. Anyways to the point, Crewel accidentally hositizalizes Trein so when he returns to work a week later.. Crewel doesn't let him live it down and neither does the students once they find out (be fr, Azul has blackmail on ALL the staff) ~ 🐩 anon
Oh how mean! As if it isn’t Crewel’s fault and Trein didn’t warn you that his body probably can’t handle as much >C Crewel would definitely hospitalize this grandpa one day, he doesn’t seem like someone who can be careful, this wicked, wicked man.
Poor Azul though, the blackmail is useless when all the students know about the thing already. But you know, I’m sure some of the students would be super amused and find it funny, but some of them would genuinely pity Trein lol
Anonymous asked:
Hey ryuichi, Have you ever thought of drawing Young Trein? I always wondered what he might have looked like when he was younger. Maybe he had brown hair? 🤔🤔
Technically I have drawn him (I’ve drawn flashbacks of him and Crewel) buuuut I always forget about the fact that Trein looked younger back then. For some reason he’s just always a 60 y.o. grandpa in my drawings lol Maybe one day I’ll draw him in his 40s… Since his supposed daughters (or at least their prototypes…) have black and ginger hair, and I don’t see him as a ginger at all, I would go with either black or dark brown.
Anonymous asked:
I wonder how Crewel feel on meeting young Trein?
I feel like his feelings wouldn’t change much, especially if Trein acts like his old self. If the chemistry is there (and it’s not going anywhere lol), Crewel would definitely be just as into him.
But also, since young Trein isn’t a grandpa, Crewel wouldn’t hold back with him at all. If Trein suddenly got younger for some reason, Crewel’s first thought would probably be “oh now I can do whatever I want” lol

In regards to RookVil being Epel's parents, I can't really see Rook as a father figure. To me he gives off 'Bodyguard of your new step-parent that they've been banging on the side long before they met your parent' vibes.
I get it, Anon, and honestly these vibes are also great lol
I guess we just have different “images” of fathers in our heads, which is totally okay. When I joke about Rook being “fatherly” towards Epel, it’s usually a “that dad who just smiles at you and doesn’t interrupt your fight with your mom, because “you know your mom is always right sweetie” but would give you headpats and a cookie afterwards” thing. This + just how genuinely excited he gets when Epel gets better at magic, how eager he is to share this with Vil + the fact that he helps Epel with his homework/lab stuff, frankly. Doesn’t necessarily mean that he is “a father”, just a “kind of fatherly and mom’s partner” figure….  Or a “bodyguard of your new step-parent that they’ve been banging on the side long before they met your parent” even lol
Once again, it’s completely up to your personal preference. Like I already said, it’s just one of many ways to read it and one of many many angles of their dynamic, not just “aw look at our baby”. Epel is much more than a baby to them. These three are kind of cursed to be honest lol but in a good way.

SHAKES YOU I JUST SAW THE DRAMATICAL MURDER TWEELS ART DRAMATICAL MURDERRRR EXCEPT VIRUS AND TRIP HAVE YOU THOUGHT WHO ELSE IN TWST MIGHT FIT THE ROLES OF THE OTHER CHARACTERS? BC IF IDIA IS AOBA THEN I GENUINELY THINK ORTHO WOULD BE REN OR SEI OR *EXPLODES*
LOL ANOOOON YES YOU’RE THINKING ABOUT ALL THE RIGHT THINGS!!!
We honestly haven’t thought about the rest of the cast, and it’s funny because Aoba technically has two whole android boys love interests; one of them being Clear and the other one being Ren (kind of sort of). And I haven’t even considered Clear as an option to be honest, Ren/Sei sounds like such an obvious choice LOL DOG ORTHO
What’s also funny is that despite the fact that Idia is clearly Aoba, he is also…clearly Noiz, isn’t he? In a lot of ways…
Anonymous asked:
dorm heads from most to least favorite?
This is SUCH a cruel question; with twst in general when I look at almost any character I always go “god you are my absolute favourite” lol So I can’t answer without cheating a little bit!
In my head Idia and Azul are fighting for the first place, Vil and Malleus are fighting for the second place, Riddle and Kalim are fighting for the third place, and Leona is the fourth.
And it kind of pains me that Riddle is currently the 3rd, but having three people fighting over the second place is just silly.
Anonymous asked:
I really enjoy seeing azuidi interact with each other ( it doesn't matter if it's romantic or platonic) because the two of them could start in a comedy sitcom with how funny they interact with each other. I would totally watch that too.
Like, imagine Idia walking up to Azul being like, "Would you still love me if i was a worm 🥺👉🏻👈🏻" and Azul, being Azul, would take this seriously and be like "which kind of worm we're talking about. The kind that eats books? A parasitic worm? Or a regular worm that crawls around in the dirt?". And idia would be like, "You're no fun, Azul-shii." 🙄
THEY’RE SO FUNNY TOGETHER ANON; we’re rewatching Glorious Masquerade right now and every single interaction these two have is ABSOLUTELY GOLDEN. They would make a hilarious sitcom lol
Azul taking stupid meme questions way too seriously is such an Azul thing to do 😭 He really is no fun. He probably already came out with a couple of plans to monetize different worm options….
I think one of the things that make them funny is that either of them could be a butt of a joke. Both of them are unhinged in different ways, so both of them could do “wow you are not well, it’s kind of worrying and embarrassing” depending on their situation.
Anonymous asked:
Thoughts on Jack x Leona?
Not much; we don’t really ship them. I like the fact that Jack is confused about Leona though; like he is supposed to respect him and consider him a leader, but he doesn’t like the way he acts and treats others. This is an interesting conflict.
Anonymous asked:
have you ever read the reddit cylinder thread?
Now I have….
I hope the cylinder is okay…
Which one of the NRC boys….

Here's an interesting story I'd like to tell you guys.
I watched hbomberguy's video, Plagiarism and You(tube). Amongst the numerous creators he exposed, was one of my favourites, Internet Historian. It shattered my heart so much, and I hadn't even watched the plagiarised video, Man in Cave yet. I love Internet Historian for his wonderful comments about meme culture and moments in internet history, and it's pretty shocking to see an entire hour's length of lifted content that was posted and reuploaded subsequently. It's blatant plagiarism.
That made me so utterly confused. How many creators could I ever even trust after this whole exposé? That spiral sent me into an obsessive drive where I combed through entire sections of my work trying to find anything that might seem plagiarised, until I lifted one of the paragraphs from the first chapter of my work and pasted it in a plagiarism checker.
Result? 100% plagiarised.
WHEN DID I LIFT AN ENTIRE PARAGRAPH FOR MY FANFIC??
As with any person with anxiety, I blamed the AI, the website, the faults in the system, the coffee I had for yesterday that made me still have lingering jitters.
Until I saw the link to the original work.
It was MY FANFIC. No, not the one on ao3, MY FANFIC THAT I CROSSPOSTED ON WATTPAD.
I almost laughed out in shock.
To be honest, fanfiction is very derivative by nature, it's pretty understandable for it to have some semblance of original work in order for it to work in the first place. But the idea of it being completely copy pasted seemed so odd and unfair. It felt like my heart was ripped out of my chest for a moment, but who knows, it might be the coffee I had yesterday. Damn Starbucks, the cornerstone of modern capitalism.
For long, I was trying to search for the original work that inspired my fanfic Infernum in the first place. No, I'm not talking about Diabolik Lovers. There was an original work on ao3 that I had taken a reference from while creating the characters and backgrounds in Infernum, either because I hadn't really found a similar story or because one of my previous ideas didn't match with my plot. Or maybe the idea seemed so pretty that I wanted to expound upon it and spend 40 chapters over exploring that theme. Obviously that didn't work out, you'll see later.
In that search for years, I could never find the original fiction, alas. It was a burning curiousity where it felt like even getting inspiration in the form of ideas was immoral for me, even while doing a presumably derivative work: writing a fanfiction.
But the real motive of writing this is the fact that a lot of settings, characters and plot points that I gather become something entirely different from what I set out to make. A lot of those are inspired from other media, real life events, spirals of caffiene induced anxiety at 3 a.m. that provide more depth into my inner consciousness than an LSD trip. They should really classify coffee as a drug eh?
You remember I told you two paragraphs ago that my plan of exploring themes discussed in that original fiction didn't work out? A lot of the plot points and outlines I had set out to explore, I couldn't even string into the story. That's because stories are living, breathing beasts that keep evolving with time. I set out to write a simple story about this one scene I had in my mind but it takes 30 chapters to reach that scene, so I wrote the 30 chapters before realising that my original vision felt too small for the organism I had created. It's like the ship of Theseus, isn't it? When do you know the original ship stops existing, and the new one gains reality?
If someone does plagiarise, it's wrong, but when does it stop being inspired and get plagiarised instead?
Ideas can be plagiarised. So can words, characters and plots. When do you stop blaming plagiarism and start claiming inspiration?
It also raises the question towards what tools we use to examine the plagiarism. TwatGPT might not be the best thing in the world to examine the human creation of fiction. It's akin to running your work through a meatgrinder, and examining it under a lens. You know, maybe it's lifted from the fanfic you crossposted to the website that now feeds unsuspecting preteens ads every five minutes while they read another cookie cutter romance novel.
Maybe technology should be blamed as well. What about the aforementioned TwatGPT that collects datasets from the very site that gets shunned for being banal, that gets loads of crap for writers merely expressing themselves, for providing much needed media where queer people get accurate, realistic representation.
As I mentioned, after a while, fanfics take a soul of their own, so the data lifted by A.I. could easily be exploited into being incorporated within "original" works. This has led to many of my fellow fanfiction writers in locking their works to private and banning user access from unregistered accounts. It's especially disheartening, since I know that a lot of people are not accessing explicit content through their accounts. All of my work is NSFW, and most of my loyal readers are commenting anonymously using the guest feature. Hacking your readership into half for the sake of protecting your rights and intellectual property feels like true Orwellian horror.
Even if one makes the argument that it's a machine programme, it doesn't distiguish between data, how else will it learn? Well, if it's lifting up entire works and presenting you presumably "real" content while the said content is regurgitated, soulless strings of words, it's not even excusable. Where the intelligence in ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE when your machine doesn't even know how to develop a proper idea?
Human creation is and always will be unique. It's not second hand or uninspired if it was heavily influenced from outside environment or preexisting media. As I learned in an art lesson, no two artworks can ever be alike. Even if one manages to copy an entire painting, you can never mimic brushstrokes of an aged, shivering hand, or the personalised touch of the creator, or the fingerprints embedded in the titanium white oil paint over the canvas. Human creation is always meant to come off original, and it's not by design, it's by polymorphism.
How do you combat this apocalypse of original content?
Simply write. It's not the first time that technology has been used against creativity, and it certainly won't be the last. The concern for the current generation shouldn't be vested in protection of original content alone, but to produce numerous new works. It's not going to be perfect, but creation is the only answer. Human content is precious by nature of being unique everytime it is being produced, so produce your own.
Regardless of how bare bones it might be, it has character, it has depth, it challenges the norm by sheer existence, and that, is what matters the most.

Maintain course and heading
Yesterday I popped into CVS to pick up a few things, especially stuff we depleted in our recent illness - cough drops, dayquil, &c.
I had reason to look at the price difference between Vicks brand name Dayquil and the CVS store equivalent, which is functionally identical.
The former is $18, while the latter is $15. Now, these prices are insane. I don't remember exact number but I think not too long ago they were about half that. Which is, you know:
Inflation
And as we know, this is actually Greedflation. That is, it's been cast as "shadowy market forces" when in actuality it's roughly eight people going "You know what? I want my Capitalism High Score to be even higher, and people aren't gonna STOP using toilet paper just because it's more expensive."
The thing is, the conceit of capitalism is that this can't happen. What's supposed to happen is, one of these hyperrich people decides to be richer, jacks up the price of their product, and the other guy whose company sells basically the same thing goes "Nah" and so people buy more of the cheaper option.
That's not happening, though.
Why?
It would be easy to suggest this is due to collusion between companies. And that totally happens. Plus, there's the reality that the Vicks DayQuil and the CVS-brand just-like-dayquil are made in the same place, and there's actually only one factory in the world, employing 75 people (not real numbers, just giving you an idea) which makes the entire worldwide supply of the stuff.
But there's another factor. It's the same reason once in a while you hear about a $10000 ice cube tray on Amazon: dynamic pricing. In that example, you've got a vendor who is like "I can charge slightly more than this similar product because mine is BETTER so I'm going to set my price to 105% their price" but the other product is "I'm going to undercut theirs by being 95% that price" and they get in a loop where they keep jacking up their prices and a $40 item ends up being listed for thousands of dollars until a human gives it a reality check.
And that's lower key what's happening here. The CVS brand isn't $15 a bottle. It's $3 less than the name brand. Vicks charges $10, CVS will charge $7. Vicks charges $20, CVS will charge $17. They're both going based on what they think the market will bear and maintaining parity relative to each other. Because of this, the different companies are aiding and abetting rather than serving as a check on excess greed.
Which comes to, essentially, capitalism is broken.

Day Forty-Eight
The quarter ended today! That went by really fast!
As a thank-you, our admins bought coffee and breakfast treats, which was nice. I started the day by grabbing some from the main office. Then I went about cleaning my classroom, making photocopies, grading work as it came in, all of that.
When my first Global Studies students arrived, I took attendance and got them ready to finish the video about that hajj they'd started watching yesterday, but then Mrs. R came over to cover for me while I went to a meeting.
The meeting was heavy, but mercifully short.
I returned to my classroom before the bell, and did my best to shake it off. By that time, my students had finished the video and moved on to an assignment about how Judaism, Christianity, and Islam have impacted different aspects of culture. That went incredibly well in all four sections of the class, and it's especially fun because one of the questions in the assignment uses a picture of my older brother (showing terrible manners while deployed to Iraq because he didn't know any better). Students always like that.
In APGOV, we discussed the Bill of Rights because the SCOTUS cases they're learning about in this unit are all related to civil liberties. Initially, students did have many questions, but the more we discussed, the more they asked, which was cool. When we got into looking at specific cases, I started off by introducing them to Tinker v. Des Moines with a couple video clips from PBS and the ACLU. Then I had them read the Oyez explainer about that case and six other cases: Engel v. Vitale, Wisconsin v. Yoder, Schenck v. United States, Gideon v. Wainwright, New York Times Company v. United States, and Mcdonald v. Chicago. More lessons involving those next week.
I went bounding through the halls at 2:40 to get my cacophonous friends because we'd made plans for celebratory pizza and stuff since we all survived a quarter. Some of the newbies joined us, but not Mr. C, so he and I will have words on Monday. This job is way easier if you have back-up, and if you have fun together, rather than working too late at your desk and then going home.

Pray for me today. Pray that I don’t have to go all mama bear on my son’s teacher. I got his interim report yesterday and all his grades dropped from A’s to C’s and D’s!
She says she is following his IEP. Doing all the accommodations. Well, if she was reminding him to stay on task, giving extra time on all assignments and test and quizzes, and sitting at the front of the class, then explain those grades. Especially the 0 he got on a quiz.
The math just isn’t adding up here. Literally and figuratively! If she had simply told his resource teacher, then we wouldn’t be at this point. His resource teacher did more in 40 minutes than his classroom teacher did all year to fix the issues.
If his IP accommodations were being followed to the letter and these are the results then a conversation and changes should have been happened. Because what's there is not helping him succeed and get better grades in your classroom.
Like I said, to me it's just he is passing, it's the bare minimum and that's okay. For me, none of this is okay. I know what he is capable of doing and these grades do not reflect that at all. This isn't hand holding or making it too easy for him, this is adjusting how he is learning that best suits him to a way he can understand it.
If he had the study guide, is reminded to stay on task, and is giving the extra time, the social studies grade just doesn't add up to me. Also the O makes no sense to me either. How does he get a zero if he has his accommodations being met?

A Family-Filled Fun Day
Yesterday felt like it was the perfect way to spend a day with our kids before we leave to go out of town.
In case you don’t follow us on Instagram, we mentioned earlier this week that we’re leaving to go out of the country today actually (!), and it will be the longest we’ve ever been away from the kids. And we’re nervous. We’ve never been away from them for more than three of four days, so the thought of being gone eight or nine days feels strange.
We keep asking them if they will be okay or if they think they will miss us too badly and be sad or scared, but (luckily) they just keep saying they can’t wait for us to leave so they can do things like stay up a little later and chew gum, haha. They will be staying with our moms as they take turns watching them for the next week and a half, and they are a little less strict than we are, which I’m happy about. Everyone needs a break every now and then.
So I think we’re the ones who will have a hard time being away from them for so long, which I am also happy about. I would much rather us be the ones crying over them than the other way around.
Yesterday was spent with fun and exciting times with each of the kids in a totally unplanned way. We started with Allan.
His entire 2nd grade class took a field trip to our farm!! That’s right, we had 40 or so eight year olds running around Ocoee Farm and it was the biggest burst of joy for a few hours. They all took turns petting the chickens and holding goslings (they found a way to keep pooping on me over and over again). They fed the sheep and pigs carrots and celery and laughed/screamed when the donkeys sneezed on them.
Allan had a blast showing the kids around the farm, his playground when he gets home from school every day. I know how much joy he must have felt to have all of his friends and teachers in his happy place, a place he’s been to a million times but that they’re seeing with fresh, curious eyes. To him, it’s his backyard. To them, it was the reason for an entire field trip.
There was time for a Q&A and PJ answered about 100 questions on the pavilion about our animals and the farm. It was so cute to hear their little questions about everything and nothing. I love the way kids’ minds work. So curious. And PJ did so well!! He used to be a camp counselor and is used to speaking to and educating groups of kids, so he was a natural. All his old training came back to him, or seemingly never left? Either way, he was fabulous.
Beau was there to help out, too, and even grabbed some photos of the morning. Thank you so much, Beau!!!
After that, we got a message from Anna’s teacher saying they would be getting out of school early because their A/C is broken and it was 80 degrees in their classroom. Yikes. So we headed to the school to get her. We spent an hour with our girl, just the three of us, as we listened to her tell us about her day and watched her eat her new favorite snack: a giant heated-up-in-the-microwave marshmallow. The girl has an affinity for sweets.
After about an hour and a half, it was time to head back to school for Riah’s kindergarten program. It’s crazy to me that he will be in FIRST grade next year. What? How? When did this happen and where was I? Our youngest son can’t be in first grade already. Time hasn’t made sense for the last few years, but the fact that he will be a first grader in just a few months is something my brain can’t comprehend.
We sat in the first row as he and his classmates performed quite a few songs in front of a crowded auditorium of proud parents and supportive family members. It was the cutest. Riah had the biggest smile on his face the whole time, in between looking a little reserved and nervous. He did so well, though. There was also a slideshow of the whole year with the background music being “Never Grow Up” by Taylor Swift, which was a perfect choice by his teacher, if I do say so myself.
Then it was time for certificates. The principal called each of the kindergartners’ names and they took turns walking across the stage, collecting their certificate in the process. Before kids, I had always thought of kindergarten graduations as pointless and silly. Now though, I thought it was the sweetest thing ever, and I know we were both so proud of him for such a wonderful year. He has had the best teacher and we wish she was still going to be in the same position next year so that Anna could have her!
After his program, we checked him and Allan out of school for the rest of the day to spend it together at home before we all headed out to eat and go to Walmart for last minute things before our trip.
Now we are at the airpot waiting for our flight, and I am writing this from one of the seats in the terminal. It’s only been a few hours but we’re already missing them so badly. Walking through the airport and seeing all the little kids running around with their little suitcases is only reminding us of traveling with our kids, and how much we love it. They do so well in airports and on planes and it really is so fun to travel and take them places and show them somewhere new. Hoping for a lot of that this summer!!
Next time we check in will be from Barcelona, so here’s to a safe flight!!!

I just saw this. 😔 Is this Prince and Princess thing true. Did the BRF confirmed it yet? Do they realise they are rewarding bad behaviour? Rewarding the untrustworthy and selfish son? I was following them but with this sort of mentality you almost think they deserve what has been coming to them. I just feel sorry for Will and Kate they must feel powerless at times. Well I will still watch the coronation but that’s about it. These family is just getting tiring and disappointing 😣
Yes, they updated their official website. They are Prince and Princess of Sussex now.
I will watch the coronation because it's history, but that is it. An anon said on @the-empress-7 blog that watching the coronation will be the end, not the beginning. This is how I exactly feel.
People think this monarchy is unshakable and set in stone but it isn't. Nothing is. With a ballsy KCIII it could have been saved for William and George etc, but I am not sure. First Great Britain will fall apart then the Monarchy. I am talking about decades of time but it will happen in the next 50 years I think. One of those things definitely will happen in my lifetime if not both.
The Queen barely survived her silence after Diana's death but she did because she had served the country for more than 40 years at that point. I remember that. I remember the anger people had towards her that she didn't make a speech and lowered the flags on BP. But she wasn't the "new kid on the block", she had been the monarch for decades.
Yesterday I shared an article where an anti-monarchist group says booing or protesting against her wouldn't be beneficial to their cause. Can you imagine? You hate the monarchy but the monarch is so well beloved that you cannot protest against her. It's hilarious actually. But this is not the case with Charles. He gained support after Frogxit but he blow it off almost instantly. It doesn't matter if this was his decision or the Harkles blackmailing him. The decision has been made, this is the only important thing right now.
Coronation in less 2 months, then we can let this rest and focus our energy elsewhere. People are saying " but you can still support W&C" This is true but being a royal watcher should be about the monarch and the monarchy first and maybe after the next in lines. And now it's very hard to support people who probably will inherit a wrecked monarchy if they will sit on the throne at all. If William will be king one day I'll give him the benefit of the doubt but who knows. People will be tired of all of Charles's shenanigans by that time.

Steve Harrington x Reader
⚠️STRANGER THINGS SEASON 4: VOL 1 SPOILERS BELOW⚠️
Masterlist
A/N: I just finished the last season 4 episode that's been released and I'm obsessed! Can we just talk about how hot Steve looked this whole season? Especially him in the Upside Down with Eddie's cutoff jean jacket...thus why I chose this gif. I do not own any of these characters except (y/n)!
Summary: After Steve is dragged into the Upside-Down, his girlfriend doesn't hesitate diving in after him. She's willing to do whatever it takes to get him back home to safety, including hiding her own injuries from the group.
Warnings: mentions of blood, death, injuries, angst with fluff
(y/n) - your name
(y/l/n) - your last name
(y/n/n) - your nickname
(y/h/c) - your hair color
Tumblr media
"How long, Wheeler?"
"It's onl-" She started, but was interrupted by (y/n).
"Too long." The (y/h/c) stood up abruptly, taking off her socks and shoes while the others protested.
Robin shifted to keep the boat level. "Just give him a little bit longer! He's probably fine." She turned to Eddie. "He should be fine, right?"
"Well, realistically, he sh-"
"Eddie!" Nancy snapped, annoyed.
"I'm done waiting."
Just as (y/n) was about to jump in, Steve splashed up out of the water, scaring everyone in the boat.
"I found it." He announced, out of breath.
Nancy was the first to speak. "You found it?"
(Y/n) reached down, putting a hand on his that was clutching the boat. "Steve, are you okay?"
He simply smirked up at her. "Did I worry you, (y/l/n)?"
"Shut up. Are you okay? Really." She returned his smile.
"Yes, (y/n/n), I'm fine. It's pretty wild. It's more a snack-sized gate than a mama gate, but still, it's pretty damn big."
Just as the words left his mouth, he was plunged underwater, knuckles white, barely hanging on to the boat. After a second, he came back up with a confused expression.
With worry etching her face, (y/n) reached for him again. "Steve? What was that?"
"I don-" he started but was pulled underwater again, and this time, he didn't come back up. Yelling instantly filled the boat and (y/n) wasted no time in jumping in after him.
"Steve!"
"(Y/n)! Wait!" Nancy tried, but it was too late. She was already swimming downward in the murky lake water. Her legs kicked as fast as they could as she tried not to think about the burning of her lungs and arms. The only thing she could think about was Steve. They had been through so much together and she was not about to lose him when they were so close to figuring everything out.

Bradshaw Beach Days
Bradley Bradshaw x Wife!Reader
Masterlist
A/N: This is dedicated to my best friend, @savvysaucepacket! Thanks for always being my go-to about all my fanfiction ideas!!
Summary: On a day off, the Bradshaws spend a day at the beach, coming to a realization that will forever change their lives.
Warnings: shirtless bradley bradshaw, pure fluff, one suggestive line if you squint
(y/n) - your name
(y/n/n) - your nickname
mojo - your callsign
Tumblr media
"Mojo, you ready?" Bradley called, packing their beach stuff into his Bronco.
Slipping her cover-up over her royal blue bikini, she grabbed a book and threw it in her beach bag, closing the door behind her. "Yes, sir."
The couple climbed in the car, blaring the Beach Boys with the windows down all the way to the beach. Bradley often found himself staring at his beautiful wife as she sang along to Kokomo, hair blowing wildly in the wind. It was rare for both of them to get a day off, so when it did happen, they would haul down to the beach and spend the whole day there, just soaking up the sun and each other's company.
Getting to the beach, (y/n) slipped off her cover-up and tied her hair into a messy bun. Bradley slid his aviators further down on his nose at the sight.
"You are looking mighty fine, Mrs. Bradshaw." he drawled, walking over and pecking her on the lips.
"Have you seen yourself? You," she looked him up and down, leaning closer to him, "look like the sexiest man alive."
He rolled his eyes, laughing. "That was so cheesy."
"I know." (Y/n) whispered, kissing him again.

Hold My Hand: Part One
Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw x Wife!Pilot!Reader
Masterlist
| Part Two | Part Three | Part Four |
A/N: I saw Top Gun: Maverick, and the only thing I can say is that my mind is completely blown. WOW. I don't know if I've seen a better movie, and that's saying something. Also, MILES TELLER WITH A MUSTACHE, WHO WOULD'VE THOUGHT, AM I RIGHT? Anyways, this fic was born out of my instant obsession with Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw. I do not own any of these characters except (y/n). Enjoy!
Summary: (Y/n) and Bradley share their last night before the mission together...
Warnings: mentions of death, extreme sadness, slight fluff, idk?
(y/h/c) - your hair color
(y/e/c) - your eye color
italics - flashbacks
"hen" - your callsign
Tumblr media
Tomorrow is the day. The day of the mission. The day they could lose everything. As (y/n) and Bradley walked out of the base to their car, silence filled the air. Normally, the couple would rarely shut up while around the other, but they knew the risks involved with the upcoming mission. The life they had built together was now in jeopardy.
Bradley gently intertwined his hand with (Y/n)'s over the middle console of his truck, knowing she needed something to pull her from her thoughts. After being married for two years, he knew how to get her out of her own head.
"Hey, babe, what do you want for dinner? You can choose and I won't even complain," he said with a smirk, turning to look at her briefly.
A small smile of her own painted her face, making his heart flutter. After all the years they'd spent together, she never failed to give him butterflies.
"No complaining?" she laughed, "I'll believe that when I see it, rooster."
His hand flew to his chest, feigning offense, "I promise you, Mrs. Bradshaw. On my pilot's honor."
"Sure, sure."
"What are we having, though? Cause I'm starving."
(Y/n) rolled her eyes as they pulled into their driveway. "You'll just have to wait and see."
With a small whine, he turned to see her getting out of the truck.
"(Y/n/n), come on. I'm serious."
"So am I," she whispered, leaning into the window before entering the house with a smile.
Watching her figure disappear into the house, he couldn't help but think back to the first time he saw her.

Coming Home to You
Bradley Bradshaw x Wife!Reader
Masterlist
A/N: Just a small Rooster blurb for ya! Sorry it's so short lol!
Summary: Bradley comes home from a long mission and runs straight into his wife's loving arms.
Warnings: fluff, fluff, fluff
Tumblr media
Stepping off the plane, Bradley breathed in the fresh Californian air, happy to finally be home. He had been called on an overseas mission that was supposed to last a week but turned into a month. Due to the top-secret nature of the mission, the aviators weren't allowed any contact with their loved ones. This rule is what always shredded the couple to pieces. They were together almost 24/7 and talked constantly, so cutting off all communication was very difficult for both of them.
It was hard for (y/n) to come home to an empty house after a long day at work. She'd grown so accustomed to Bradley getting there a few minutes after she did, and now, she would just stare at the door. having to remind herself that he wasn't going to walk through it. As a week stretched into a month, she grew more and more anxious about Bradley's safety. Of course, every time he went on a mission, she was sick to her stomach with worry, but she had learned that the longer the mission, the more dangerous the mission was.
When she got the call from the base, her eyes welled with tears, immediately fearing the worst, but she sighed in relief when they said he was finally coming home.
Quickly driving to the base, she hurried to the fence outside the airstrip where families were told to wait. She watched as pilots started coming out of the plane and down the steps toward their loved ones. The second she saw a familiar head of brown hair and mustache, a beaming smile grew on her face as they made eye contact. Even though he had his aviators on, she could tell he saw her by the way his demeanor changed. Quickly descending the steps, he ran, bag in hand, towards his (y/n), who jumped the fence, not caring about protocol. She threw her arms wide with a smile, running to meet him halfway.
Bradley dropped his bag before wrapping his arms around (y/n)'s waist, her arms slinging around his shoulders as their lips collided. Pulling back slightly, Bradley scanned her face with a smile, kissing her again. Out of breath, they leaned their heads together.
"I've missed you, Bradshaw," she whispered, leaning against his chest as she hugged him tightly.
He leaned down and kissed her temple, squeezing her tighter. "I've missed you too, Bradshaw."
As the two shared a moment, Mav looked on from afar, unable to break his stare. The couple reminded him so much of Goose and Carole that his heart ached just watching them. He was broken from his trance when he heard Penny calling for him. With a sigh and a teary smile, he looked back at the couple one last time before going over to her, whispering to himself.
"You'd be proud, Goose."

Little Hen
Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw x Wife!Reader
A/N: I'm obsessed...there's nothing left to say. I don't own any of these wonderful characters except (y/n). Enjoy!
Summary: Rooster takes his little hen to The Hard Deck to make memories like he did with his father
Warnings: tooth-rotting fluff, like your teeth are gone...

(Y/n) sighed through the phone, stuck at work for another hour. "Bradley, are you sure it's a good idea to take her there? It is a bar after all."
"Yes, babe. Some of my favorite memories with my father were made at a bar."
She knew this meant a lot to him, especially how he lost his own father not long after those memories were made. He'd told her about his fear that he'd be killed before their daughter, Carole, even remembered him. She was now 4 and was just like he was as a kid.
She was adventurous, competitive, and most of all, a complete daddy's girl. The 4-year-old had Rooster Bradshaw wrapped around her tiny little finger. If she wanted a stuffed animal, he got it, and when she asked for a Hawaiian shirt to match him, (y/n) could've sworn she'd never seen him order something so fast.
Bradley had also formed the habit of calling Carole, "Little Hen" after her mom, whose callsign was Hen.
"Okay little hen," Rooster said getting her out of her car seat, "do you want to meet some of daddy's friends?"
She threw her little arms around his neck as he held her. "What about mommy? She's your friend."
He chuckled, swinging her around in a circle. "Mommy is my best friend, but I have other friends too."
"Whoa, Daddy. I'm dizzy." She announced, leaning far back away from him.
"Don't worry, hen, Daddy's got ya." With a content sigh and a bright smile, he kissed her cheek and opened the doors of The Hard Deck.
The room erupted into cheers when the pair walked in the doors. Jake, AKA Hangman, was the first to come over to the pair.
"Hangie!" She yelled, leaning towards him, her little arms extended.
Rooster handed her to Jake with a smile. "Hey, kid! Have you been listening to your mom and dad?"
She shook her head, glancing over at her dad, who was just watching the interaction. "Nope."
Jake burst into laughter, tickling her as she joined in with her own giggles. Rooster's heart was about to explode with love at the sight of his beautiful daughter. The only person missing from this moment was (y/n). She got caught up at work and couldn't join them for the movie night they had planned, so they decided to have a Rooster and Little hen night. He's brought out of his thoughts by Carole calling him.
"Daddy! Jake wants you to play!" she said, full of excitement.
With a sigh, he took off his aviators and gently placed them on her face as he walked towards the piano. The glasses were way too big on her, so they were slanted to one side, and they looked so cute. Bradley took her from Hangman and placed her on top of the piano. He stretched his hands slightly before playing.
"You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain." he sang, looking goofily at Carole. "Too much love drives a man insane. You broke my will, oh what a thrill."
Carole somewhat knew this part, so she sang along with everyone else.
"Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!"
Her laughter echoed across the bar, lifting everyone's spirits even more than her dad's playing did.
"I laughed at love cause I thought it was funny, you came along and you moved me, honey. I changed my mind, looking fine."

Tuesday and the cold is in my chest, I sip cough syrup while walking to the train. I have a massage on the books but postpone for the third time, because I know my nose will drip through the head-hole, and I worry having a Thai woman press my lungs into the table might start a coughing fit that won’t stop. I am so thrilled to have this genre of problem. I think of a question I got on Instagram yesterday: “worst dating experience?” and how I initially typed “Rape!” before changing my answer to “he vaped during sex”, prompting several follow-up questions about whether I had slept with Leonardo DiCaprio, a known sex vaper
I finish the audiobook of child actor Jeanette McCurdy’s memoir “I’m Glad My Mom Died”. It reminds me of problems I never had but have been party to - the girls in my eating disorder group who worked for months on trying to reduce the calls from and to their mothers from 50 to 40 a day. It reminds me of problems I do have - the damaging and nihilistic interaction between bulimia and drinking alone, which still seem to go so well together even after 7 years of not drinking. I notice how I give myself free passes when McCurdy describes her bulimic patterns and they differ from mine, especially when they seem more severe than mine. “Purging 10 times a day?”, I think to myself Spotify feeding the next chapter into my ears, “there but for the grace of god go I”. (Reader, I went there every day between 2009 and 11)
I seize upon the times McCurdy exhibits less self-control than me and feel smug, and when she describes running more and for longer than I do, I ball my fists in jealousy. I wonder whether it feels this much like a contest to every other girl with an eating disorder. Impossible to parse, since so few admit to it. I don’t act on the competitive urges anymore, but they are there, ambient, like a waiting room television. I think of V always wanting to know how someone died so she can evade death for longer, and how maybe the morbid curiosity about other people’s eating disorders is just the opposite, namely we want to know how to die most efficiently, with the most perceived glory. Or perhaps, like V, we don’t want to die, and want to learn from others where the brink is, how to make life bearable without ending it
Tuesday evening is spent in a heated back and forth with C, whose name I mentioned when someone asked me “who do you most hate being compared to?”. C is upset, and correctly so. There is what modern parlance calls “spilling tea”, and there is wanton cruelty. I meet her first text with indignant rage, then quickly begin crying as I type each subsequent response, softening with every tear. Rarely does my anger so immediately turn to sadness, even though the former is only ever a smokescreen for the latter. There is so much going on in my feelings about C — resentment, jealousy, embarrassment, judgement, longing, awe, competition — that it is hard to study one at a time. So much of it seems common in female friendships, almost intrinsic. There is the face to face interaction and there is what you each say about the other in private. The rewards are ginormous when it works, and it has worked with C. Then she does something I don’t understand or respect, I move away out of exasperation, there is distance, everything that made us allies suddenly makes us adversaries. “I have stuck around for 7 years”, C says, “even though it has been hard”. We actually met in 2019, but I don’t say this, and simply assume that the bond has been so arduous for her it almost feels like double the time. We leave off in a more measured place. I apologise three times, drink more cough syrup for good measure, cheersing myself with the bottle and some flat San pellegrino
All signs point to crawling back to therapy. There is a lot I am not allowing myself to feel. My granny is having the glands in her neck cut out this month because there is cancer there. I haven’t yet looked directly at the possibility of losing her. I miss M, whose new recovery life has rejigged our friendship and our schedules. I am lonely and despondent and in a rut. This will be 2024’s resolution: to feel everything

bye bye baby
i think i've been afraid to write here, to make it feel real, but last thursday we had our u/s and discovered a 6+4 sac with a yolk sac (maybe an amniotic sac??? i think?) and - no baby. of course i feel grief & anger & numbness but also - the relief is unreal. it feels good to know.
so many thoughts.
i'll start with technical things... finally got an hcg done on sat and it was 15499 so more consistent with 6w. waiting on monday's value. had another ultrasound this morning and the sac shrank perhaps ever so slightly but otherwise same. they were (in my opinion) unreasonably concerned about ectopic b/c of a cyst on my right ovary but i always have a cyst on my right ovary and i'm not medical but .uh. isn't that the corpus luteum (also i happen to know that i ovulated from the right).
care-wise. i continue to be so grateful for LWC midwives, they have been absolutely lovely. both u/s techs have been ok. there is apparently a NP midwife at LWC who expressly does early pregnancy loss stuff (!) so i have felt medically taken care of.
i had an itch to want to see if i could do tissue testing on the miscarriage but am probably leaning away from it - too much trouble, worried about scarring, worried about billing (esp without good health insurance). i'll just never know.
i have a strong suspicion that an embryo did form this time, we just caught it too late and it had already stopped developing & had been reabsorbed. i was quite nauseous (still a bit nauseous) & we didn't get a yolk sac last time. and there looked to me like there was an amniotic sac, though it was empty. and it's just a hunch.
i've been so tired, both jetlagged but also just grief. at 5-6 pm i lose the ability to stay awake entirely. you couldn't pay me enough money to stay awake. i just lose consciousness wherever i am. and again after p "puts me to bed" at 8pm i cannot get myself out of bed and sleep for 15, 30, 45 minutes. And then when midnight rolls around i absolutely cannot sleep, i take melatonin, baths, etc. and p has been up at weird hours anyway, crying mama, mama, mama.
showing up to work has been ... well, it's been a miracle that i have been. i did cancel a thursday night appointment after the u/s but other than that i've been fudging my way through, trying not to let show how raw and bruised and completely depleted i am.
k has been wonderful. he is keeping me going. p somewhat understands what is happening. yesterday during bath she announced she had a baby in her belly, and then plucked it out and said she was putting it in mama's belly. she knows mama is going to the doctor a lot and always asks if i am still hurting. i told her the baby is gone. i don't know how to walk this line between being honest with her and protecting her. i kind of think that she must understanding the workings of embryonic life/nonlife better than me, being that much more proximate developmentally/spiritually. only a few years ago she was also in the womb! but she is generally still her happy, curious, thriving little self, and we keep thinking how depressed we would be without her.
sigh.
it was too good to be true.
i only asked the universe for one more baby.
i think, maybe even more than wanting to have this baby, i wanted to never ever ever have to fucking go through this again.
(but i did really want to have this baby)
i am back in the world of Not Knowing. i don't know how many more pregnancies i will have or how many tries it will take to have those pregnancies, or how many weeks each of the pregnancies will last. i still don't know! why! my! body! can't! carry most pregnancies to term!
k thinks maybe we were just too sick and stressed from all kinds of bugs (including covid) and from the 40 hours of travel and 13hr timezone changes and his loss of employment and loss of insurance. and that's why we miscarried. i don't think the line is so clear, but i think one big takeaway from this whole thing is: i need mothering. in my desire to mother another child (and in my struggle to mother the one i already have), i sorely need mothering. i need a warm, generous, wise, and proximate figure to be keeping tabs on me - i need to be on their radar - i need their hugs, hot drinks, meals, nurture, comfort, advice, solace, confidence, life experience.
so my body is still clinging to this pregnancy (coming up on 9 weeks), and i suspect it will be awhile before I start bleeding. maybe christmas.
and then?
and then we are definitely going to take a break. there is (just a bit) less hurry this time - we have our hands full - and i do want to develop some better habits re: nourishing myself, caring for myself. i've barely eaten in the past 5 weeks. and anyway we are going to wait for k to get a job and new health insurance, and we are focusing on some other dreams too.
and then i want to do a bit of testing, maybe a hysteroscopy/endometrial biopsy, a few clotting tests that we missed, re-check my thyroid, etc. have a WTF appointment w dr. kelly/make a plan.
and then we'll see. immediately after i got the news i felt strongly that i could never go through this again, or risk going through again. i felt that we would just have to walk the path of accepting that we were done growing our family. it felt good to be like, HELL yah we won't contribute to overpopulation or subject our unborn child to this mess. but that doesn't really resonate... i still really want to try. to have a child and to raise them so that it is worth it.
so many things hurt about this. hella everyone is pregnant or giving birth. i hate the dejavu with our first pregnancy, feels stuck/stagnant & like we are destined to be in and out of sad ultrasound appointments. feel like we wasted our trip.

Designing systems with bad Implicit requirements. (Or "How to hire people")
So I have now been searching for a job for half a year. And my conclusions are: 1: Firms have no idea what they are doing. Everyone seems to make decisions based on "What does everyone else seem to be doing" and "How do we usually do it" 2: Your ability to do the job you are applying for have just about 0% relevance in your ability to GET the job you are applying for. I am a system designer. And when I get exposed to the same system many times, I start analysing it... it is basically habit at this point. And so, I analyse the hiring system. And so far, in all the interviews I have been to I have been asked 0 technical questions about the position I was interviewing for. 0! And the little feedback from my many many rejections, was that I am not experienced enough. That is weird. Because they are making a judgement on how skilled I am... while not at all asking about or testing my skills. And yesterday I finished my internship (Which is a polite way of saying "Whored myself out for 0 pay in desperation"), and I was in a room with 6 other developers, who was all programming in C++ And I now know that I was the best person at C++ in that room. Better at designing with C++, building architecture with it, knowing the intricacies of the language, and knowing tiny weird little details of the language. (Most of the others had different things they were better at. More experience working with the specific hardware and codebase at the job, better at 3D simulations and so on) So I know for a fact I am skilled. But the system that is build with these interviews mean that skills do not count. Someone with terrible skills who had done bad work at their student job for a year or two, is considered better than someone with great skills who have focused on their studies and not yet worked. Or said in another way. There is an implicit specification in the system design that "Being good at the job, does not matter" So since that is frustrating as hell, and I need to interact with it to stop my brain exploding, lets design a better system. First of all, the OBVIOUS (That... I have seen exactly 1 firm do):
Blind recruitment.
The system will have to have humans make the judgement of who to call into interviews, and who to hire. And humans are stupid little monkeys with brains with software that is just layers covering for the flaws of other layers. Yes, that also means you. And yes, that also means me. We are biased. You can try to constantly evaluate yourself, be aware of your biases and minimize them, but they cannot be removed. Science ( as in, the entire field , have tried for several hundred years and is only "meh" at it So how do we deal with that? We remove the info that is not needed, and can ONLY lead to bias. A person making a judgement if a candidate should be called in for a interview should not know the candidates gender, name, age, skin color, religion or any other information we can remove that have no value when it comes to figuring out if that person will be good at their job. You may think "Hey wait a minute. Age DOES have an influence!" but it really does not. EXPERIENCE does, and SKILL does, and PERSONALITY does. And yes, age can corelates with that. But that is it... it MAY corelate with it. We want to value 2 people with the same skills, and the same experience in the relevant fields equally, if they are 25 or 40.
Throw the letter of motivation in the trash where it belongs
Does the job you want someone to do involve writing 1 page marketing nonsense, that follows standards that is never specified? No? Then stop making people write those to get the job. Letters of motivation should only be required for jobs where the skills you showcase by WRITING such a letter is relevant.
Throw the CV in the trash where it belongs
There is NO agreement on what a CV should contain. You can find people claiming that THEY know, and that you should ignore the thousands of others who say the exact same thing but disagree on what it should contain. You may be able to boil it down to "relevant skills" and "relevant experiences"... but now you are having the person who have no information about the job or the inner workings of the firm guess what skills and experiences are considered "relevant". So unless the job you want them to do involves blind guesswork, don't do that. Simply have a website that asks the candidates the relevant questions. Write down the very specific skills you want (Embedded C++, Javascript in React, Kotlin for Android etc) and ask the candidate if they have those. Simple yes/no questions. And for each of them, have a more general question (Low level programming, front end web development, Android development). Now, ask the candidate the general question, and if they say yes, ask them the specific questions that relates to that. Do the same for experience. A specific question could be "Do you have 1 year or more experience working with relational databases via C# ?" and a more general question could be "Do you have more than 1 year or more experience working with C#" or "Do you 1 year or more experience working with relational databases?". And yes, you can also have them write a paragraph about their extra experiences: "What hobby or work in other industries have you done that have help you develop as a worker?" "For how long did you do that?" This is essentially the specific bits you are interested in from the CV. And basically, anyone in the codeblr community could make this website in a few days, AND have it output files that is nicely formatted. Give them a few more days, and they will have a website for setting up the interview question website so it can be done quickly and efficiently.
You CANNOT know if a person will work well in the firm, or in the team
What to ask at interviews have been studied a lot. And we have data to at least make SOME statements. One of which is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to determine if a person will work well together with a team based on interviews. People simply do not act in a way at interviews where you can judge it. No amount of personality tests that con artists have sold your firm will help, and no, people cannot figure it out just by talking to someone (People however THINK they can. Which is worse that simply not being able to). The only way to find out is to hire people. We can do a middle ground technique and hire people for a trial Period. Which is NOT a guarantee that they will KEEP working well with the team... but it is MUCH better at predicting it than people who think they are somehow better at psychology than the entire scientific field of psychology. And yes, this costs money. But it costs LESS money than the alternative.
Either know what you want from a interview, and be able to test it, OR, throw the interview in the trash where it belongs
Interviews are THE most expensive part of hiring someone. And I have yet to be at a interview where ANYONE asked themselves "Why are we doing this?". I would say, in 8/10 cases, they are wasted. If you need someone to do design, architecture or development or other work where thinking in creative but structured ways are required, then you can gain some value. Either ask questions that 100% of candidates should be able to answer, and then dig into the "why" of their answer. For example, ask a software developer to name a software pattern they are relatively familiar with. Then ask them what that pattern does, and when it should be used. And when it should NOT be used. You can also give people homework to do before the interview. Again for programming, FizzBuzz is a great choice. Why? Because it is a solved problem, that is solved in a unsatisfying way. The problem is basically: "Make a program that takes a number to count up to as a input. If the number is divisible by 3, have the program output "Fizz", if it is divisible by 5, yell "Buzz". If it is both, yell "FizzBuzz"". Basically, you will quickly find the optimization that you never check for "FizzBuzz!". You just check for the two other things and output the relevant word. If both are true, then FizzBuzz will appear. So you make your 3 checks into 2 checks.... and then you are stuck. There IS no way to optimize further. Ask the candidate what extra information they would want to solve this test better. You can ask this at a interview or again, via a website that also gives the candidate the problem. Because fun fact, if you know if the program should be optimized for Speed (IE CPU efficiency) or how much space the program takes, or both, then you can actually make the program a LOT better. And knowing to ask the right questions when you are given requirement to your program IS a very great skill to check if the candidate have. You can also check the code. Was it easy to read? Is it easy to modify? Did they do anything cleaver like use linear programming to make it run faster? Did they do clever optimization tricks? (If they did that is good... but it DOES also mean they might pre-maturely optimize, which is a deadly deadly sin in software development.) I went through that in detail, because it showcases HOW to approach designing questions and tests for a candidate for a specific job.
And if you think it is too much work, or if you cannot come up with relevant questions and tests... THEN DO NOT DO INTERVIEWS. If hiring someone without an interview feels like a blind shot. You are correct. But it is LESS of a blind shot than hiring a candidate based on random and irrelevant skills. And it is a shit-ton cheaper.

Since yesterday, where I have had a row on a social media platform with some people who are residents of our former colonial master state (The Great Britain) over colonialism, progress and how it has affected the colonies- in my own heart I have been searching answers as to why India could not find its way out of the trenches for nearly 80 years now. I have been looking at articles- at eminent Indian economists, who have been consultant at World Bank, condemning Indian socialist politicians for the stagnation and commenting how if only India had adopted a free market economy like Singapore, things could have been different. But India for a long time has not been socialist, has she? Our politicians and our larger than life businessmen work so closely together that even I, who have next to no knowledge on how economy works, would often stare at the annual budget plans drawn up for a fiscal year in bafflement.
One reading led to the other, and soon I thought about how much corruption plays a role in this stagnation. India, in fact is home to one of the most corrupt and complex bureaucratic systems in the world. She ranks 40 in World Index of corruption where 0 signifies the most corrupt and 100 the least.
Tumblr media
(Yes this is from Wikipedia. No I don't find it disgraceful to reference to wiki writings.)
And so the article linked above caught my attention. And I think it is one of the most comprehensive piece of writing I have come across while combing through the Net for the past two days. It starts with referencing to Arvind Kejriwal's work in trying to bring transparency in bureaucracy (an Indian bureaucrat turned politician who believes that maybe tweaking the law and adding more bills to strengthen the law is the way to go). It discusses if it truly can be that way and adds lots of interesting anecdotes ( at least to me it was) to debate how far this ideology can work to bring in progress. It ends with some conclusions that to me seemed particularly striking.
For example
As a morphing spectrum of social practices, corruption is anything but universal or circumscribable. It confounds the clear boundaries, the “dos and don’ts,” that the modernist logic of the law demands. Mathematical equations, like “C = M + D − A [or] Corruption equals Monopoly plus Discretion minus Accountability”...and laws based on such precise definitions work well as aesthetic exercises in simplification, in imposing formulaic systematicity on what is “an inherently untidy experience”...But they ultimately fail to contain the chaotic social life of corruption. For corruption is not an object or a disease agent that can be isolated and attacked; it is rather a shifting “relation between official-unofficial, formal-informal, public-private”...and a proliferating effect of these modern distinctions.
And
Perhaps it is not corruption that is a problem, as Sumit suggested, but structural inequality propped up by the state and by laws. What if one considers corruption not as the fallout of a poorly designed system but as the outcome of the logic of modern bureaucracy—the hierarchical and alienating system of formal rules, routines, and relations typified by the state and the law as public institutions—that seeks but fails to rationalize all aspects of social and political life
And of course
I find Dipesh Chakrabarty’s (1992) analysis of the complexity and polluted nature of the public realm in colonial India to be useful here. He argues that the street and the bazaar functioned not as ordered and civic public arenas but as dangerous spaces; they allowed a muddling of categories—outside/inside, strange/familiar—that should, ideally, remain separate. I suggest that we might want to see the state in a similar way. If we suspend the ideal of the liberal state as a perfectly public, civic, and rule-bound realm, then what we confront is a much more chaotic, even malevolent arena that is partially privatized and unequally accessible.
I am not sure how far I agree with the drawn conclusions overall, but it is nevertheless thought provoking.

Life Insurance
September, 2023.
"Hey Vern, Good news.  I no longer fear dying in a highly suspicious 'Household Accident'."
"Why's that, Tom?"
"Well, my wife recently came to me with a problem on her smart phone.  Since I remember the conversation somewhat differently than her, and, in the  interest of fairness, I'll present both sides of the conversation and you can decide what really happened."
Her version of events.
"I can't access our bank account using my smartphone.  It was working fine yesterday and today it just gives me some message saying something about trying later." "Is yours working OK?"
"I haven't done anything whatsoever to make it not work. I'm doing the same thing I've always done exactly the same way I've always done it.  "I've tried un-installing and re-installing the bank app multiple times.  I've un-installed the app, restarted the phone and re-installed the app multiple times.  I verified that no other apps were interfering.  I went through all of the app's permissions to verify nothing had changed.  My software is the latest version but I updated it anyway.  I checked to make sure none of the system registries were corrupted but I reset them anyway.  I closed all the unused apps, scanned the boot registries and cleared the cache."  "To be very clear, this is not my fault."
My version of the conversation.
"No work!  You fix!"
And so I began the standard husband protocol designed specifically for these types of situations.
Step 1. Ignore the problem until it threatens our marriage.
Step 2. Follow standard Navy Technical Repair protocol and f*$%k with it hoping I might accidentally fix it.
Step 3. Get serious and start a more systematic approach. A - un-install the app, B - restart the phone and C - re-install the app.  I did this in 30 or 40 various combinations of these 3 possible sequences.  It turns out there are only 9 combinations.  Didn't know that.
Step 4. I tried various ways of doing the same thing 4 or 5 times in a row just in case.
Step 5. I tried Step 2 and 3 again.
Step 6. I looked in the kitchen drawer where I found my lost keys not too long ago thinking maybe I'd get lucky.
Step 7. Realizing this was only going to be resolved with a bigger hammer, I advanced to the dreaded 'gotta do some sort of serious reset on this piece of crap' phase. But before taking such an irreversible action, I tried step 2 a few more times.
Step 8. So I tried a soft reset, a super soft reset and finally a reset with just a hint of lime.
Step 9. I realized everything short of a factory reset wasn't going to fix this thing.
Step 10. I backed up all settings and data to the micro-sd card which took 30 minutes.  Backed 'em up a second time just in case it didn't work the first time.
Step 11. Closing my eyes I hit 'factory reset' and began that long wait - hoping it wouldn't crash in the middle requiring a trip to my wireless provider.
Step 12. With the phone screen now looking like it did when we bought it long ago, I tentatively went through the restore data process - only opening my eyes when I heard a welcoming  'ding' sound.
Step 13. Voila!  The banking app is now functional.
Proudly handing the phone to my wife, I was expecting to hear something like, "I love you, you wonderful person.  You are definitely not just another manly hunk.  You are also sooo very smart.  Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm gonna cook you your favorite dinner tonight and bake an apple pie - just for you."
Instead after a couple of minutes I get, "I'm trying to log onto Facebook and it's asking me for my password - which I can't remember.  THANKS A LOT!"
Again, there might be a little wiggle room for misinterpretation in the actual conversation.
But now there's a change in our marriage dynamics.
Realizing it might happen again, all of a sudden she may not want me dead after all.
"So I've got that going for me, Vern."

TGIWednesday: Is there a word track for that?

TGIWednesday News
I had a (long term) client the other day ask, “In the minute we have left, can you give me a word track that will make me as Zen as you? Lots of clients towards the end of a session blurt out the deepest most pervasive issue with a minute to spare in the session rather than leading with it!  I wanted to address why I could not just make the client more Zen in a minute, but I also wanted to maximize the time we had together.  It is hard to boil down decades of working with clients, 9 books, radio shows, summits, 40 audio MP3’s, over a decade of classes, and courses at a cost of more than 6 figures followed by a near death experience into a short word track.  But if I had to, what comes through is “go with the flow” the famous martial arts expert Bruce Lee said, “Be like water.”  If you merely go with the flow and work with what is showing up today, right now, you’ll be in a more calm Zen like state.  As you read this now I see you sitting in peace, calm, grounding in a contented space, knowing that the best is yet to come.  Something else that can help is joining in on our Monthly Zoom event TONIGHT! ~ GOING WITH THE FLOW WITH A ZEN STATE OF MIND ~ I believe, think, know and feel that if I go with the flow I can reach a state of bliss filled calm that will allow for only the best to come through.  I am ready, willing and able to be like water and flow where there is nothing for it is in the in-between space and the zero point field that endless possibilities thrive.  I know, when, where, how and why to remain steadfast in this moment, releasing the sadness of the past and anxiety about the future for it is in this present moment that having a calm state of mind fulfills my every need.  I am asking in all languages, throughout all time lines and so it is.  Wishing you and yours to make a little progress every day so that the rest of your life will be the best of your life!

We found a home!!! I just signed a lease for a home for my kids and I!!! I’m a full time student and the region we live in is in the midst of a major housing crisis and there are bidding wars for rental units. It is nuts!! But miraculously we found a cozy 3 bedroom townhouse close to school and our best friends and were approved almost instantly!!! AND we get to move in on January 15th!!! So amazing!!!!  We had to leave an abusive situation that kept escalating and so we’ve been homeless since the beginning of December but it’s been great because it gave us an opportunity to get really clear on what we wanted to experience in our new home.  I can’t even begin to express how overjoyed I am that this miracle happened for us!!! Thank you so much for your prayers!!!! I hope you are having the most amazing day and that you have a wonderful weekend!!! Warmly, Jen / Canada
