I was rewatching the Bear and its kinda crazy the way Claire always forces herself on Carmy all the damn time (when she asked Fak for Carmy's real number when clearly the dude gave you a fake one for a reason or again forcing herself to the back kitchen when he got locked in the walk in when Fak told her it wasn't a good moment, timing or even during Carmy's panic attack scene, she forces herself in his mind, in his life so much that he believes that she would help him calm down....when we both know who truly is able to do that) and yk what's even crazier, the way the writers (who are geniuses btw so imo they really did this on purpose and for a reason) wrote her character in a way where as watchers we almost feel like we can't NOT love her, that by doing so we lowkey suck and we're a bit weird bcs not only Carmy's entourage (Nat, Richie & Fak) keeps insisting how good and great she is for him but also the girl seems to be, emphasises on seems, perfect for Carmy. She is the girl he used to fancy, his long time crush, she is pretty, intelligent, super easy going and ready to take all the steps needed to get to Carmy. He doesn't have to do anything almost for her to get into his life. She is easy and good and perfect so we should feel bad for not liking her, for not wanting her for him when everyone around Carmy thinks so of her and doesn't miss a chance to throw it right into our (and Carmy's) face all the fucking time. All the fucking time.

And so for me, it is written like that for a reason.

However we also see that Carmy starts losing his focus the moment she comes back into his life and best believe, I think he felt it, i think he knew and that is why he gave her a fake number bcs deep down he had a certain understanding that she was not perfect for the person he wants to become, he started to become but guess what, she forces herself and his entourage (Fak his best friend lol remember how carmy is a bit ???? When she tells him that thru the phone) thinks this might be good for him, she is the person Carmy always wanted so they think they are helping but they are wrong and they dont know and they dont see how he is eager to envolve bcs he doesn't show it much with them, he is not as open and human with them like he is with Syd. Besides, Carmy also has the tendancy to let things happen to him too, he kinda likes having it easy regarding all the other parts of his life (other than his job) so he just goes with the flow and so Carmy stops changing the sec he meets her again.

He stops and misses the opportunity to grow and envolve and find his purpose and I know deep down he knows and that is why all of their scenes kinda feels off. He knows deep down, not up front but we know with how their interactions are shown to us.

Claire is perfect for the Carmy from the past. She is perfect for the person he used to be and not for the one he thrives to become and so I am very excited to see how they're gonna play that for season 3 especially after she told him she loves him.

so, first, accountability statement: I plan on trying to finish the “zedaph steals a baby” fic by the end of the month and god is that one-line summary no longer accurate but we’re sticking to it, said here publicly so now I have to do it. obviously I also have recursive exchange and the writing I have for hotguy comics zine, but I am not SUPER worried about either of those time/inspiration-wise at the moment and also for Reasons I know it won’t be long until I have more free writing time after that, SO.

various items that are on my potential writing docket, I am curious which of these appeal most:

I dust off the supervillain support group au. two ways this could go: I chip away at the second arc of my original outline and acknowledge this will be like a 300k fic I’m not ready to feel “done” with or “ready to post” with for ages, or I re-work it into something a little more doable and less ambitious keeping the same premise (ren runs a support group for supervillains, doc pov as he starts to heal and redeem himself). this MAY honestly be a target for “if I don’t hate the first 50k on re-reading it and I can actually make my brain write the second arc, do a slower release schedule and then start releasing chapters before I’m done writing”? but this ALSO runs the risk of “I stopped writing it, which is often a sign I was having trouble writing it”.

pearl monster au, which has been cooking in my head for a long while. the basic premise is “one day, pearl, with no memory of how or why this happened, wakes up in a facility as a monster and must try to figure out how she got there, escape, and find her way home, even knowing she may be irrevocably changed”. now with bonus season 10 fish flavor to add to this creature design I’ve been iterating on in my head for forever! this one is ALSO an experiment for me in “can I write a fic where I can’t write dialogue for basically the entire first act”, which would be interesting to see from me, you know?

the related “bigb folklore au”, where after secret life bigb is woken up by Cat and Dog by the tracks of the King Snake, which bigb can recognize as the railroad track, and decides to journey down the railroad to see if he can figure out what the fuck is going on. I need to do video review of life series bigb for this one. this is my excuse to get Weird and Metaphorical and also assign everyone to various animals for no reason, along with using some very specific aesthetic I have wanted to use for some worldbuilding but hadn’t gotten around to yet in any of my stuff. man walks through the desert with animal, confronts train that might be the watchers, might be death, and might just be a train. also, realizes that “confront” is the operative word there and has to deal with that. you know how it is.

““office au””, in air quotes because it’s not REALLY what anyone going to an office au is looking for so much as an excuse to write weird horror. iskall, normal-ish software developer man in a boring office job who does game jams in his free time, goes to work one day to work in his boring downtown office on a payment system for a client. and then things, uh, Take A Turn. this would be a LITTLE me going “what if I wrote an au with a guy who works in tech but like, the boring side of tech I’m in. like, banks and consulting and manufacturing and shit. where you sit in meetings all day and tweak java 8 code even though that language is ten years out of date. but THEN. something exciting happens in the worst way possible.” I’m doing to iskall what I did to mumbo stuffed bird is what I’m saying. it’d be fun.

Ω PJO DEMIGOD HEADCANONS: 🥂HEBE: Goddess of Youth and Forgiveness 🙏

Author's note: Hello everyone! In lieu of posting the major gods demigod headcanons, here is the minor gods version!As usual these headcanons will contain what it's like being claimed and what it's like for the respective god and cabin, followed by a small story between you, the reader, and the respective demigod of that god. When you get claimed, things start to make sense. You smell fresh, your skin is bouncier and smoother than usual. A cup appears in your hand, in a form that is familiar to you and it is filled with your favourite comfort drink. You take a sip and it makes you feel right at home and brings you vigour to you. 

Your half-siblings explain that cup is magical and is also your cup-bearer. It never goes empty, at its optimal temperature and freshness, and you can share your drink like a fountain for others to drink at your own will. The catch is it is limited to only one, non-alcoholic drink, which is the same drink that appeared when you got claimed.

They say the drink tells a lot about the individual, however, there have been some questionable drinks such as one child of Hebe who had a goblet that had never ending pickle juice. At some point, they had to get the drink changed by going to Hebe if they could have a different drink because of reasons that led to pickle juice incidents. 

It’s not just a never-ending drink beverage. It’s actually a pretty effective weapon. You see its potential use when you had the insane idea to create a flood and took a shot when you saw a horde of monsters. Like turning on the hose all the way, the drink shot out of the chalice like a firefighter’s hose, the strength of it pushing you backwards from the force of it, all the while a flood of your drink flooded away the monsters. Percy Jackson came forwards and was confused yet laughing his stomach off when he came over because of-said flood. 

Being a child of Hebe makes sense when you look at yourself. There’s a sense of youthfulness to you. You’re either baby-faced and/or have been mistaken regularly for a younger age. It may be convenient at times while also being very annoying to deal with, but at least the slight annoyance is smoothed over the fact that you are a child of Hebe, and from what you hear about your godly parent, it just makes sense.

To a certain degree, some children of Hebe can magically turn themselves to look younger than their actual age, but they can’t look older than they actually are. However, don’t do this too much because there’s a chance you might not be able to reverse it in a timely manner. Don’t worry, according to Hebe, the max limit you’ll be able to turn young is at 8 years old. Anyways, enjoy getting those sweet children prices and discounts! 

Though you also have a ‘childish’ trait that is just a part of you; either something like baby fat, soft baby-like hair, a childish voice- once you’re claimed though, you learn how to control it on command. You have no idea how useful it is as a tactic to deceive your foes by using a child’s like voice to drop down their guard to only attack them right after. 

Being a child of Hebe also means children are naturally drawn to you. If you’re not a big fan of children, don’t worry about it. There’s some sort of effect that makes the children around you be very well-mannered. 

You can also make people look more youthful; for a more powerful child of Hebe, they can make others look actually young. You can make a good business in giving people good skincare, which is revolving clients from the Aphrodite cabin . Or make great bucks from the Hermes cabin alone to make the campers look young and open a whole lot of more pranks. 

In all seriousness, the children of Hebe are probably let out on more minor quests by Chiron with the Satyrs looking for young demigods. If you don’t like being in school, I get it but you have an important task of seeking any potentially endangered demigods and protecting them from monsters that threaten them.

There’s a strange thing among the children of Hebe that isn’t even conscious. You know how sometimes parents will keep a memento of their child when they were little? Like the locks of their hair when they were a baby or your baby teeth? Well, all children of Hebe still have it and have them on them. Like the children of Tyche, it acts as their lucky item or in this case, their totem, amulet or what have you. You have heard many stories of how your fellow half-siblings have to protect your lock of baby hair from others to preserve their youthfulness to actually fighting off the tooth fairies. Apparently, children of Hebe baby teeth are very prized among the tooth fairies-

Hebe sends you guys arcade games or just ordinary games, regularly for you all to play, as she manages an arcade called “Hebe Jeebies”. It’s a blast to the past and you’ll find yourself transported back to your childhood. 

Speaking of childhood, children of Hebe are masters of childhood joy and nostalgia. This ranges from being able to name and make toys from anyone’s childhood to saying nostalgic memes, references, and such. You are abhorred when younger demigods don’t know “What is Love” by Haddaway. Good thing you know Rick Astley will Never Gonna Give You Up. 

With Hebe also being worshipped closely with her mother, Hera, you and your siblings manage Hera’s cabin-temple as proxy. If anyone is going to survive Hera’s wrath or one of her bad days, it’s the children of Hebe. Your cabin is treated like a hero because of this. 

If you’re a fan of chicken, well good news for you! Well, if you like the animal chicken and not actually eating chicken as a meat. Hebe’s sacred animal is the chicken so it’s not unusual to have a chicken coop. 

Not many people know that Hebe is also considered the goddess of Forgiveness. Like Aphrodite and charmspeak, you can talk to people to forgive themselves, and in others as well. You don’t tell them that they have to forgive and forget, that they’re allowed to remember but forgive, but at some point the burden will become too much and you can let go. 

When you get claimed, you feel slightly rejuvenated and giddy that you haven’t felt in a very long time. You almost felt like a super young again, before you were still unaware of the world of the gods. You weren’t sure if it was just the fact that you got claimed or it was Hebe’s blessing. Your skin definitely felt tighter, plump, and soft like a baby. As you were inspecting your arm and how smooth it was, you also caught the whiff of something like warm milk and baby powder?

You saw something shimmer in the sky and you squinted. The light seemed to blend a bit before it took a form. You saw what looked like to be a chalice before it floated down into your hands. As soon you grasped it, it became heavier. You inspected its outside appearance before you could hear something like liquid? You raised the chalice up a bit to peer the interior and then out of nowhere, liquid began to spill out of it. You let out a gasp and sputtered, pulling back the chalice as it filled with the mysterious liquid. 

Upon instinct, your tongue darted out to lick off what was on your lips before you wiped off what you could with your arm. Then the taste finally hits you. 

You blinked in confusion, smacking your tongue against the root of your mouth to gather the taste again before realisation hit you. You looked at the chalice, the liquid seemingly familiar to you before you tentatively brought the rim to your lips. You tipped the chalice just so and took a careful sip. The liquid poured out of the chalice and it flowed in a familiar way to you before and you gasped in glee at the taste. 

It was your favourite drink of your favourite flavour. It was the right consistency, the right temperature, and its peak state that you liked so much. You looked at the chalice in awe. Inspecting it and wondered how you even had it, and it’s appearance before you heard shouts. 

You looked up and saw a large boy with dark skin with remarkable features. You looked at him in awe and you faintly noted the Brazilian flag around his person. He greeted you with a bright white smile as he waved, before he began to speak happily. 

“Ola! meu nome é Paolo! filho de Hebe e seu novo irmão. Prazer em conhecê-lo!” he introduced himself. 

You understood what he was saying completely fine and waved, introducing yourself in your own native language. Paolo’s eyes lit up as he understood you fine as well, before he began to talk to you eagerly. You wondered if the children of Hebe all spoke different languages, they still understood each other properly. If this was true, you wondered if it had to do something with the language of Youth, how babies seemingly talked and understood each other, even if they had differences, yet seemed to share a deep innate language with each other.  

“Come, come, let me show you around!”  said Paolo, gesturing to you to follow. He happily helped you grab your stuff from the Hermes cabin and led you to your new cabin. 

When you entered it and felt a strong wave of nostalgia hit you, even though this was your first time in this cabin. There was just something about it that seemed familiar to you however. Even the bed you were given reminded you of your childhood bed, if not its appearance but how it felt. The entire cabin had bits of nostalgia as you saw stuff from your own childhood, as if the cabin had catered areas of pieces of your time existing. 

As Paolo introduced you to the cabin and showed you around, you both shared your own drinks from your own chalices, Paolo introduced you to a soft drink called Guarana, while you let him taste your personalised drink from your own chalice. He showed you his chalice in the form of a different vessel and showed you how to change your own chalice shape into your preferred form; whether it could be a regular mug, a tiny teacup, a kiddie cup, or whatever you so desired with any appearance and design on it.  

The two of you continued to share drinks and talk, letting you get to know more about each other; comparing your own childhoods with each other, your cultures, and the similarities and differences between you.

I've tried to remember of what I've heard before and reviewing the Brazilians speaking to get a sense of casual speaking when I was watching the QSMP but hope it's bearable. Hermitdragons Masterpost (Wings of Fire x Hermitcraft/Third Life AU)

Grainshifter (Grian) was born to the Nightwings under one full moon, giving him the power to read minds. However, as fortold by Nightwing seers, he also possesses animus magic, a power that the Nightwings will use to bring their tribe into greater glory, becoming Watchers that feed off the strong emotions of the other dragon species, particularly fear. When Grainshifter attends Jade Mountain Academy in disguise as a Skywing called Grian, the Watchers take notes, and years later they surprise him with his very own death game featuring all his friends.

hello hello! this fic is on hiatus, and while I would like to finish it one day, it is my first foray into fic writing basically ever, and my writing has improved dramatically since a year ago when I started to write this. It’s been a while since I’ve reread this, but I have been told it’s good! lol. However! There’s still a lot of content (70k words and SO MUCH ART) so let’s get into it!

Fic One - Ruler of Everything

After Grian betrays Nightwatcher secrets to one of his best friends, Scar, he is punished by the Nightwatchers and placed into a death game with all of his past friends from the academy. However, there are two dragons he does not know; Scott, a Seawing who seems mostly normal, and Martyn, a dragon whose mind he can not read at all. Whose mind no one can read. Whose body can not be manipulated by animus magic. Soon, it is clear that Grian is not the only dragon here that is being punished.

Fic Two - Mechanical Hands (this fic does not exist but in theory it would after the first)

Grian comes to terms with his relationship with the Nightwatchers, finally realizing and accepting that they do not love him, and only want to use him. He teams up with Martyn in a shared goal of destroying animus magic, but a massive problem still stands; they’re both still stuck in these death games. And their friends are still under the Nightwatchers’ magical control. As the games go on, things are starting to feel hopeless, but revealing the secret of Martyn’s immunity to animus magic that he has so desperately tried to keep might just be the solution these trapped dragons need to escape.

Beyond these summaries, I’m going to try and keep these story explanations brief, however, if you’re interested is All Of The Art + commentary + more story explored through the art, then you can keep reading under the cut :) also just as a warning there is a lot of undetailed cartoon blood below

Designs

before writing, these were my first pass of most of the designs in the series! As you can probably tell from the references of the main three characters at the top, Scar, Grian, and even Martyn have changed quite a bit, and if I ever return to this series, other designs will probably change as well. Except Joel and Bdubs. Those are peak. The biggest change from these designs, is that Jimmy is not actually a dragon in this fic!(which is why I included the third picture with him, Scott, and Grian) He is super human, and he dies first for A REASON. He just looks the way canon Jimmy does, minus the wings.

Full Pieces

I made two fully rendered pieces for this fic. To the left is a scene from the academy where Pearl, Ren, and BigB are play fighting in the mountains while Grian and Scar watch. Grian is very uptight in the academy, struggling socially, and his friends, painfully aware Grian comes from a bad home situation and possibly raised in a cult, are trying to help him relax and have a nice time in school while he has the chance.

On the right is a scene from far into the death game, where Scar is overtaken by the magic of his red life, and is threatening to force Grian to kill all three Dogwarts dragons, and at the same time, blowing himself up in the process. The dragon on the left is Skizz and I hate his design, however the little tie thing is hilarious.

word count. 1k. genre. brainrotted scenario. potentially platonic or romantic.

overview. life at the akademiya was never what you wanted it to be. you didn't just want to read and report, you wanted to learn, to experience. all it took was sitting through one of tighnari's lectures to spark this into a brand new life.

author's note. i planned to entirely trash this fic, but at the request of @duckymcdoorknob , i finished it and am now posting it. perhaps not the best example of my plot-generating potential, but if you just wanna hang out with tighnari for two minutes, this lil fic is for you.

Tighnari’s goal had always been to train you, to do his duty as a Forest Watcher and instructor to pass on his knowledge to yet another rookie in the rainforest. As for taking you on as his apprentice, he hadn’t exactly foreseen it, but it was necessary and reasonable. The fondness he grew for you, unlike that which he’d had for anyone before you, however, was far from what he might have predicted.

He met you on one of the days he requested to give a lecture on a Forest Watcher's duties, after which you approached him with a question. An innocent question, indeed, but not a common one. “Master,” you said, “is there any chance you might teach us about more complex herbal medicines in future sessions?”

He raised an eyebrow at you. “Perhaps I must clarify. You do realize, young scholar, that my specialty lies in botany and ecology, not pharmaceutical sciences, don’t you? Anything I may have mentioned during my talk was only to illuminate differences between species, as well as highlight practical uses of common ones.”

“I realize this, yes,” you said, “but your knowledge already surpasses that which I have accumulated during four years of study.”

“Is that so?”

You nodded briefly. “I studied medicine at the Akademiya, but found it all a bit cold and detached. As interested as I am in the subject, I cannot learn under such underwhelming conditions. Friends referred me to you and your practices, advising me that if I didn’t like libraries and desks I would be better off in the rainforest cleaning statues of bird feces.”

Tighnari lightly sucked air in through his teeth at this. “Your friends may not have meant well by such counsel.”

You tilted your head, as if such a thing hadn’t occurred to you. “Perhaps not. But I cannot believe that, because of how I enjoyed your lecture.” You shook your head, smiling assuredly. “No, I am quite sure they knew this would be best.”

“And you are interested in herbal medicine?”

You shrugged. “It’s what I have the most background in. But… really, I feel as if I could be interested in anything, if I were to learn it from you.”

Such a comment of flattery—of interest—was hardly rare, but there was something grappling about the way you had sat through his lecture, hanging on every word as if it might change your life… The Forest Watcher scrutinized your expression, looking for any hint of ill-intent. Satisfied to find none but a sparkle of curiosity, he laughed. “Alright, then. I suppose we’ll meet again soon.”

“Master, you haven’t answered my question!”

“You’ll find out the answer soon enough.”

The following morning, you found an envelope addressed “to the young scholar,” below which was your name, and inside, a succinct letter requesting your presence that afternoon for an “herb-securing excursion.”

From there, you went from a new pupil to an apprentice… to a dear friend. You managed to shed the title of “young scholar” quickly enough, as your remark upon how similar your ages most likely were had been met with an obliging “you may be right” — but you did not escape, nor intend to escape, the seniority he held over you. You remained a humble and dilligent apprentice, striving first to learn and second to lessen his workload in ways that you could.

Once, a quarrel broke out between the two of you because of this secondary habit of yours. He was just arriving home, the sun barely disappeared behind the hill, and you were tending to the greenery just outside his hut.

“As my apprentice, I know you take on as much as you can to learn. But you must stick to your own duties.”

“You’re tired, Master,” you pleaded. “I see it every day when you finish with everyone, when you finally drop your mask at the doorway of your own home.”

“It means I’ve worked myself hard enough. It isn’t something for you to be concerned with.”

“I just want to help, Tighnari. I just want to repay you somehow.”

Tighnari’s chest tightened and he gazed at your earnest expression. People like you were the people that made it worth it. People like you were the reason he could hold it together, and love his job. “I think that means you’ve learned all I can teach you.”

Your mouth opened but no words came out.

“Would you like to take on a full Ranger position? I won’t pester you so much anymore, and you will be able to declare your own responsibilities. Gandharva Ville is in need of a nurse.”

You drew your mouth into a line, processing. He was offering you a position, but at the same time… “Are you trying to get rid of me? You’re going to station me in the village and forget about me?”

Tighnari shook his head, a green twinkle in his eye. “No, of course not. You would come along on our excursions. You would take on the role of tending to fellow rangers as well as anyone we may encounter who is in need of care.”

You gasped. “R-really? Tighnari, you mean that?”

He smiled gently. His soft ears flattened sideways, and you knew he was in earnest. “Yes. Now, leave my plants be, as I prefer to tend to them myself, and get a good night’s sleep. You’ll start tomorrow.”

You smiled widely at him, feeling relieved and elated.

“Hurry along now. Don’t gawk, Forest Nurse.”

You bowed out and walked along the path to the hut you were staying in. This was far from what you had expected your life to become; and he was far from the person you thought you would form such a respect for. You paused under a lampstand, and turned around once more to catch one more glance of him.

Tighnari was tending to his plants as he had said, leaned over to inspect the stem of a flower. He seemed to sense your eyes on him, and turned his head up the path. He sent you an encouraging, perhaps expectant, smile.

You briefly smiled back and turned back to your walk. Something told you that this was only the beginning of something tremendous.

(before I start, placing this disclaimer here at the top since I have friends who don't frequent mcyt and might get confused, but when I talk abt this au I'm specifically talking abt the characters, not the content creators themselves. Anyway)

SO IM GONNA GO AHEAD AND SHARE WHOSE WHO FIRST

Jay- Grian, it made the most sense in my head, but I actually flip flopped on this so many times bc he also works so well as Tim or Alex, but at some point I went "wait it's an au, we can see how the story changes with Grian as the protag" so Grian's the protag now

Tim/Masky- Scar, I'm a transparent desert duo enjoyer and had a similar flip flop with him as I did Grian bc he'd also work as Jay but I was halfway through that drawing and had a similar thought process to the one i had abt Grian

Brian/Hoodie- Jimmy, I wanted to keep the cast focused to life series and evo members and he made the most sense to me lore wise, especially with the idea that in this au he was one of the ones with the earliest exposure to The Watcher (bc I love Canary Curse symbolism)

Alex- This one was the toughest choice bc no matter what a fav is going to loose it. Good thing this based on the Life Series! As much as I Love the idea of Joel and Lizzie as Alex and Amy, I actually went with Martyn. Again, the character is pretty involved with the Watcher Lore so it made the most sense as the character that is arguably most effected by it. (Although for a brief moment I considered Mumbo Jumbo bc,,, how fucking funny would that be)

Jessica- Jessica's gotta be Pearl right? It makes the most sense for it to be Pearl, I don't even need reasoning for this it makes sense

Amy- So who's Amy then? Scott actually! He's not Martyn's boyfriend in this, he's just a really good friend of his who was super involved in the production. Also like in mh, he's Pearl's roommate.

Sarah- Ren. Can't have a life series au featuring desert duo and not have some renchanting. Who else would be one of the leading actors in Martyn's short film?

Seth- Big B, again Evo connection made sense to me, and depending on your own personal theory on who the third person running the totheark account is, both Big B and Ren have interesting implications, even if both their rolls are p minor in this au

With the cast out of the way other questions !!!

It's set in a kind of nebulous time frame that's probably a little closer to present day, but it does still start with a student film project. When asked Why Martyn chose to use tapes he says something about wanting a more authentic feel to the film but in reality he just thought using tapes was a cool idea and doesn't want to admit that it's kind of impractical now.

In this au Scar doesn't smoke, but instead I like the headcannon that he just has boxes of candy/bubblegum cigarettes on him at all times. He'll pull one out, pause, and offer one to someone and when they say no he's just like "Okay, your loss" and watch as they get all confused when he starts unwrapping it asdfghkgkdjhfjsh

Is Grian gay in this au? Whose to say. (Real answer tho, I'm a notorious Jam shipper and while I'm not an active shipper when it comes to hermitcraft or the life series, I don't really mind it so the relationship is left kind of ambiguous)

An observation on the Magnus protocol (so far)

Presumably, the mechanics of fear and the paranormal are different in this universe than in archives, for there to be enough variation to keep long time listeners' attention. What we don't know is how it's different yet.

People don't seem to be afraid in the case files. Or rather, the people being most directly influenced by supernatural powers don't seem to be afraid.

When Daria talks about her experience of...ehm...altering herself, she doesn't talk about it as if it was a horrendous, traumatic event. The thing she seems most upset she seems is getting the tattoo, but ‘bad tattoo job’ is a fairly ordinary experience, if that makes sense? When she talks about ‘touching up the painting’ (the most overtly paranormal part of her experience) she speaks almost with a reverence or amazement, focussing on how she was "making progress", "so much better", "perfect", "perfect", perfect. She even admits she intends to make more ‘adjustments’ when she gets the chance.

Although Dr Webber is panicked by his worsening condition at first, there is a really sudden change in mood around the point he talks about being "covered in insects" - he seems relaxed, happy, even. Although he almost certainly met a fairly gruesome end he likely did so in a state of bliss. He does mention there being "something that still shakes with terror" within him, but his language is detached, as if the fear is separate from him/is a more passive feeling.

Now, the case involving the-thing-that-was-not-Arthur is a bit different in that the person whose perspective the story is told from isn't directly on the receiving end of supernatural...weirdness. Harriet is understandably absolutely horrified at what she sees, similar to how Sarah is horrified when she sees Daria after her ‘alterations’. However, we only hear her perspective. For all we, the audience, know, the thing that was some of Arthur might have been having a lovely time.

Again, the Magnus institute case is a little different too. Again, we believe this could be in part because RedCanary starts off an observer rather than being directly involved in a paranormal occurrence. Interestingly, rather than just being emotionally distressed, like Harriet and Sarah, RedCanary (arguably, not confirmed) meets a nasty end after returning to the institute.

So, so far in protocol, witnesses of supernatural events find them horrifying, traumatic, even - but those who actually experience it firsthand seem unfazed, even if they undoubtedly suffer.

In different words- the watched thrive while the watchers suffer.

Okay but with more overt phrasing I think the mantle of "victim" could be on observers/witnesses of paranormal events rather than those who experience it firsthand

I guess this could be linked to fears or entities leaking through from the universe archives is set in, and maybe the Beholding being weakened from losing its pupil before being pulled into this universe

But I don't imagine this is likely to get confirmed confirmed a la protocol being accessible/understandable to new listeners

But anyway yeah. Ideas :)

felix was just starting to grow, his deep voice and calm aura were key to it. when he first arrived and saw what was happening on the parks, the way the crowd would act up with whoever was rapping, yeah needed to do that as well. he concentrated when the time would arrive and then would kill it slowly on the mic but it still wasn't enough to earn him wins. he needed to be more brutal, more threatening, have more courage, he had it in him at the end of the day. he needed to stop being afraid of fucking it up first though.

"so you're mingi's sister?" bangchan asked or at least that's what i thought his name was. can you blame me? i'm not familiar and this is my first time here. i couldn't say though that i wasn't intrigued and a bit intimidated because he had a weird aura about him (or it's probably the face tattoos).

"yeah, it's the first time i'm seeing him compete." i said as i looked around because i thought he was right behind me but i lost track of him. i sighed as he probably got distracted with the first thing he saw or the first person he came across. "i don't know much about rap competitions though but i heard my brother and he's pretty good."

"oh yeah he's incredible. he was in the same group as wooyoung and hongjoong, they killed it in the scene back in the day. wow i'm sounding old as fuck." he said as he crossed his arms and i got a peek at the different designs that were covering him. "oh i'm chan by the way, kind obvious since that's almost my stage name but yeah whatever."

"i'm (y/n), nice to meet you." i said with a smile and he smiled back, damn dimples okay. not like i had a thing for dimples and tats at all, nope. it was easy to lie to myself but i needed to pull myself together, this was my brother's friend at the end of the day. 

"already flirting with someone? you've got a girlfriend christopher." another guy said as he approached us, oh my god more tattoos kill me now. but now i knew that chan was off limits and i would stick to being good, not gonna get involved in a cheating scandal, that's not me!

"shut the fuck up! this is mingi's sister dumbass." chan said and the other dude made the most shocked expression. okay so mingi did not talk about me at all which was good and bad, good because i did not like to be mentioned around but also if i knew it was full of guys like these, i would've liked them to know my existence. then again it wouldn't have been good because i would constantly be thrown around in verses.

"oh shit, hi i'm changbin. you probably heard of me because i'm wooyoung's best friend and he's very close to mingi." he said and of fucking course, how did i not recognize him? dude is practically one of the best rappers in korea. the fact that i was standing by two people that were masters of not only this scene but of music was huge to me and the fact that they were nice just made it better. 

"hi, yeah wooyoung is at my house a lot. please come pick him up, he practically lives there." i said, rolling my eyes, which caused them to laugh and god what a beautiful sound. no, boundaries (y/n) please, stay true to yourself and don't fall for the man with tats again. 

"(y/n) what are you doing with these old men? oh wait never mind, i'm older than bin by two days." he said as he got close to you and greeted chan and changbin with a smile. "i didn't expect you two here and it seems like you met my sister." 

"well changbin obviously came by to support jeongin since you're competing with him today. i have no idea what i'm doing here man, i practically live here." chan said, lighting up a cigarette which i found kinda odd since we were backstage and not outside but i was guessing no one really cared about that shit here.

"dude is a freestyle ancient, he has to be in all competitions." changbin said which earned him a punch in the shoulder from chan and a laugh from mingi and myself. "but yeah i gotta support my boy but i wish you the best as well."

"thank you man, really appreciate it." mingi said and looked at me, giving me a little smile which i gave him back as i hugged him. "gotta go on stage, don't drift too far away and fucking pray that i win."

"duh dumbass, that's why i came here!" i said smiling and giving him a pat on the back as he went out, all the lights focusing on him and the so-called jeongin or i.n. also there were the judges who were mostly composed from ex freestylers, rappers and previous winners. 

"let's get this show started." changbin said and chan just nodded as he looked at the screen but then he looked back. 

he gave me a wink and of fucking course i blushed. yeah this wasn't going to end well for me wasn't it?

TPP HADESTOWN AU PART 5 PROLOGUE EDITION

seeing as how this has me in a stranglehold, I will continue writing this in bits and pieces as it comes to me until I can get it organized into coherent chapters and on ao3. but for now, enjoy a nice prologue (the thoughts within are inspired by an absolutely feral conversation I had with @smidgen-of-hotboy regarding rita's position as hermes, the narrator)

the story you are about to read is not a new one. it's not a kind one either.

I should know. I've told it thousands of times before.

why keep telling it? what's the point?

well, for me, it's to see the past again. to see if I can pinpoint where it all began to go wrong. when the sappy love story turned into a tragedy. when I began to lose my best friend to his need to fix everything.

and maybe it's to see if the ending will change this time. I know the chances are that it won't. but I've got to try. he never gave up on the world, not even when it all began to turn against him. i'm doing this for him.

I've spent my life surrounded by people who knew loss and knew it deeply. I was lucky that it never got me, that i was never affected by empty space and grief in my life where a person should have been.

he certainly knew loss, my best friend. I was as gentle with him as I could be, but he always said the feeling of missing his brother was like a hole in his stomach that would take big bites out of him to get his attention. that feeling only doubled when he lost his husband to hadestown too.

he tried to get him back. of course he did. but something went wrong. he was never quite the same after that. he'd be up singing at odd hours, staring at the potted dahlias we kept out in front of the bar, watching the stars in the sky like his life depended on it.

and then one morning i woke up, and he was just....

gone.

i guess he'd finally had enough of that empty feeling and went down to find his husband again. and he left me behind. now I know that feeling. that horrible sense of absence. I've felt hollow for months. telling this story again is the only thing that keeps my bleeding heart in place.

but what matters is that i'm here. i tell his story, and sing his song, and keep the memory of his life alive, all in hopes that the ending might be a little different this time.

so once again, this story is not new. it is not kind. it is ugly, painful, and heartbreaking. but most of all, it is a memorial.

to the best friend i lost. to his husband. to the world.

i raise my glass.

you all deserved far better than us gods had to give.

NATLA Episode 5 - Spirited Away (1/3)

An explanation of what I'm doing here and my history with ATLA.

Of course, full spoilers ahead.

This episode shifts from taking several episodes from season 1 of the animated show and weaving them together to even drawing from future seasons/shows! I saw elements of The Winter Solstice: part 1, Bato of the Water Tribe, The Swamp (season 2), The Storm, Siege of the North part 2, that episode in Legend of Korra season 2 where (spoilers) she meets Iroh in the spirit world and sees the people lost in the Fog of Lost Souls, and honorable mentions to The Waterbending Scroll, The Fortuneteller, and The Great Divide. While that might seem like a lot to combine into one episode, I think the writers did well to pick and choose the thematic elements of each episode that would naturally condense into a Spirit World trip as well as add to Zuko's story.

This was a characterization-heavy episode that really let us delve deep into several characters - namely Katara, and Sokka, but also Azula. I feel like because Zuko has soooo much to delve into, he gets really impactful character moments every episode, but episode 6 is really his time to shine, so that's why I don't include him in that list and Aang is similar - he gets a lot of his backstory examined all through the season while Katara and Sokka don't get a chance for flashbacks.

The intro does a great job letting us know that some time has passed - and the Gaang is getting better at working/surviving together. Love the detail that Katara is learning waterbending by experience and observation rather than just being naturally good at coming up with her own forms: she saw earthbenders do the earth disks, so she made her own ice ones! The burned forest is pulled almost directly from the animated show and I like how they're tying it to not only the themes of responsibility, but also of forgiving yourself for past mistakes and planting seeds for the future.

I like the choice to have Sokka interacting with a young girl in the forest who was looking for her stolen brother rather than an old man just randomly showing up and asking for their help. The active choice for Sokka to turn on 'big brother mode', drop the Pipenpadalopsikous easter egg, and the group to CHOOSE to go to the village to help all on their own gave the characters a lot of agency rather than just being tugged along with the plot by other characters. Since they cut the Imprisoned storyline where the Gaang took that agency in the animated version, I like that they gave them that same agency here in the live-action. The included detail that the forest didn't burn due to a battle, but just because the Fire Nation wanted a clearer path to march through just shows how devoid of care Israel is - sorry, The Fire Nation is - for the natural world. While at war, just destroy everything in your path - even centuries old orchards - sorry, forests.

The change in camera focus as Aang senses the issues in the Spirit World was a really cool cue for the watcher - makes it very other-worldly. Live-action Aang already understands that he can interact with the spirit world rather than in the animation when the villager has to prompt him 'yeah, you can do that stuff' and Aang reluctantly and with a great deal of apprehension says 'right, that's me'. While I like how Aang has no idea what he's doing as he hasn't had anyone to teach him about the spirit world, he goes about things differently in the live-action. He still doesn't know exactly what to do, but he does know meditation, so he tries that - and it takes awhile and does it funky, bringing Katara and Sokka in with him.

It's great to see Zuko on the old-school hunt for the Avatar and being a dick to his crew - these two episodes in Zuko's POV draw heavily from The Storm and Bato of the Water tribe and it's a great dynamic to see between him and his crew. Then we jump to Azula laying on the flattery thick with her father and dropping the 'water the most promising seed' line! Again, reinforcing the theme of future growth - and it might not always be positive growth. Linking the themes to both sides is just soooooo goooddd. Love too, how Azula gives her suggestion for what to do and Ozai agrees, an inverse of when he'll be so disparaging of Zuko's suggested tactics in the next episode.

But oooooohhhh the sly dressing down he gives Azula, her conflicted and angrily embarrassed reaction, and then Ozai's little smirk as he pokes and prods in JUST the right way to get Azula pitted against Zuko - love love love what they did with the royal family in season 1. It'll give SO much more depth to Zuko and Azula's rivalry next season!! It is heartbreaking though that Azula was so clearly angling to get some sort of approval from her father - some praise for her abilities - praise that with Ozai is probably very rare. The two children are just so desperate for positive reinforcement from their father and while Azula's sly remarks are, of course, underhanded, you see that she's doing it because she's just a child desperate for approval - not that she was just 'born a monster'.

The Gaang's dynamic is so cute here!! Like in the animated version, Katara having complete faith in Aang even though she's no idea how he's gonna do it, Aang desperately trying to do something he knows he should be able to do but no idea how, and Sokka complaining that he's hungry which is distracting Aang from his super serious business. Their interactions are almost a direct pull from the Siege of the North Part I from the animated series when Katara and Yue are talking behind Aang as he's trying to enter the Spirit World at the oasis. Instead of stumbling into the Spirit World on accident as he chases after Hei Bai, in the live-action, Aang has to meditate for a long time before finally reaching the point where he can cross over. The detail of Katara continuing to practice her forms as they wait is really great as we don’t actually get to see animated Katara practicing much - it's just The Waterbending Scroll, and every other time, she just does the waterbending form perfectly. Yes, her skills improve, but we really miss her practicing.

It's an interesting choice to bring Sokka and Katara with Aang into the Spirit World - I can see how, with the themes they're looking to explore with these episodes, that's how they chose to do it. The main ideas being that you need to come to terms with the past so you can look forward to the future, and a great way to do a flashback sequence is through the Spirit World. The animated show didn't really show Aang much in the spirit world through these episodes - he just met Fang and was given the Spirit message to get to Roku's temple - but nothing else really Spirit Worldy happened. And we just left Sokka and ignored the fact he was there. I like them combining Aang's jaunt into the spirit world during the Siege of the North episodes here because I think it's a great story beat to hit, but the siege episodes are already a LOT, so adding even more with the spirit world journey to meet Koh would probably be too much.

Won Shi Tong was an amazing addition to the spirit world. Instead of a random monkey (that costs tons of money to CGI), they've created a model for a character we'll see in season 2. I don't really understand people confused about his presence here - like….y'all, he's a spirit? He can float around wherever - probably can be both here in the spirit world and the library at the same time? Idk, it just seems like an odd thing to be confused over. Like, why would an ancient spirit not be able to jump over into the spirit world while also holding down their presence in the material plane? It really felt like manufactured outrage trying to FORCE an issue that’s…not an issue at all.

I literally painted my nails black with holo glitter because I thought my OC would wear her nails like this. story behind url : Aerith's white materia summons the ultimate white magic, Holy. She's the guardian of the white materia, which she keeps hidden in her hair ribbon. Holy Guardian. I toyed with changing her URL to being oearth because she has such a close tie with the earth being a gardener, and being in tune with the planet, plus if you squint it kind of looks like I jumbled her name around (Ifalna's name is a transliteration of "final" and Aerith's was supposed to be a near-anagram of "earth") BUT I'M TOO ATTACHED TO CHANGE IT. fun fact about me : My blood type is O negative yeehaw.

Do you think whether you watch a bl live or binge it affects your viewing experience?

Because for me, when i watch ep by ep, i am always left with time to consume, reflect, and expect... analyze and make theories... etc. Sometimes, i think this causes much more disappointment later on when certain things i thought were important end up simply not being anything, for example. With binge watching, on the other hand, i don't really have time to think much before jumping onto the next episode, so i feel like it doesn't leave a lot of room for criticism or analysis. I used to be strictly a binge watcher before i started liking to live watch for the fandom experience but it can be a bit draining for me to consume a show for a couple of months, especially that i tend to hyperfixate if i like something too much. Anyways, i was curious to know whether you might look at your viewing experience a bit differently as someone who avidly watches most of their shows live

BL Binging Versus the Weekly Watch

Yes! I have tons of thoughts.

It absolutely emotionally and psychologically impacts the experience.

Whether you identify as a binger.

There are some people who just like watching one way over the other. They know themselves best. Bingers usually have to make the choice to wait and that takes will power I don't have. Also if they don't like spoilers, they gotta avoid bloggers like moi.

Whether you have binging thrust upon you.

Some of us have life, or access, or other issues. So some shows we must binge by default, and others we don't have to.

As a critic, I have to acknowledge that the means by which I consume a thing effects how I enjoy it. (I would include device and platform here as well.)

I actually like both ways of watching BL.

I don't really fall into either camp. I have no will power and I love gossiping about shows so I watch weekly, but binging is really fun too. Way more immersive. I still wit often pause it to take notes as I go.

But there are certainly times when I feel like binging (or not) effected my experience and opinion of the show - one way or the other. Usually I am more fair to a weekly and less fair to binge. My mind has a chance to be changed via discourse over a weekly show but NOT with a binge. Or someone's opinion foreshadows my binging enjoyment.

Personally: I try to watch weekly and then if I have time (and care enough) rewatch as a binge to be confident in my thoughts.

But the act of watching something the FIRST time is profound, so the initial mechanism of consumption really does matter.

Are BLs better binged or watched in intallments?

I think if the show was designed for cinematic release, then the creators intend it to be binged. So movies should be binged.

So what about those series KBLs that are repackaged as movies? What about KBLs in general, which run much shorter than most other shows? What about JBLs? That entire tradition started out with the movie mentality, and they still kind of have that attitude and approach - their series are structured a bit more like movies than episodes.

I don't have an easy answer.

I find that I enjoy re-watching KBLs because they are so short. I can squeeze them in in under a few hours, so I do tend to reach for them to binge after airing.

Conversely, I find that I rarely have the patience to binge Thai BL without skipping large chunks, side stories, or fast forwarding through them. I find the longer running series with longer episodes each, easier to watch as weekly installments.

Ironically this means I rarely rewatch the best of these. BLs like La Pluie and Step by Step have been sitting on my rewatch pile for ages, but not making it to the top because they're gonna take so much time because I want to rewatch them thoroughly from start to finish, no skipping.

That said, those BLs that have very short episodes but are airing weekly, are much more work to watch weekly, because so little happens it's difficult to remember what occurred in the previous installment.

Since it is all so complicated, I don't think you can make an objective call as to whether the length of a BL, or the country it comes from, predicates that the entire oeuvre be binged or not.

Are there generalities?

I I HAD to pick, I'd binge

Korean,

Vietnamese,

Pinoy,

and Taiwanese BL.

And those few Thai BLs that goes lakorn or historical (rare, but things like ICFYLITA or Manner of Death or Laws of Attraction).

Because Korean stuff is so short and tidy and because Taiwanese & Pinoy stuff (and Thai lakorn) is so long, untidy, messy, and frustrating, I hate waiting between episodes. Vietnamese stuff tends to be one or the other of the above styles.

I'd watch Thai BL and Japanese stuff in weekly installments.

Both require more patience and thought between shows.

Although some of my favorite JBLs were binges. (I Cannot Reach You and Seven Days).

Ive just recently decided to use my tumblr as a idea outlet so I may be hyper posting for the next few days:^)

Chop top:

Chop top is the kind of movie watcher who never stops talking. Hes constantly info dumping about actors, history behind films, and just generally talking abt whatever comes to mind

If yall are watching a film thats part of a franchise or a re-adaption of an old movie that hes already seen then he will spend the whole time complaining abt how the movie messed up the time-line or how Hollywood has gone to shit since hes left

If the two of you are watching a horror movie and the protagonist is running or hiding from the antagonist theres a good chance that he'll be laughing maniacally to the point that you cant get him to shut up

During fight scenes or chase scenes he'll more than likely be yelling at the screen "GET THAT BITCH" and bouncing in his seat

I feel like chop top has pretty bad short term memory so even if he has watched this same damn film 100 times it never gets old

Definitely has a bias for horror/gore films

Nubbins:

Though nubbins is just as chaotic as his twin in other circumstances I feel like hes pretty quiet during movies

Probably sits criss-cross on the floor hands sat in his lap or with his knees to his chest, eyes big, focused on the screen

If you guys are watching a horror movie however he tends to be alot more energetic. Making faces and mocking the characters as they run screaming from there impending doom

Always has to have something to do with his hands so he often picks at his clothes, picks at the carpet, and figets with his knife. But dont just let him continue because if hes spaced out enough he might just unravel 1/4 of the carpet!!!

He just like chop is a big fan of horror movies:)

Bubba:

Bubba isnt a big fan of horror unlike the twins even though his share in the "family business" could be described as such

Is already desensitized to gore but gets scared/startled easily at jump scares

Because of this he only really likes to watch classic movies with little violence

Likes to watch movies with pretty actresses and stares at the screen the whole time in awe

Doesn't need/get as much sleep time as you do so if you plan to go to bed in the middle of a movie or after a movie make sure to leave the tv on rerun or pop a new movie in for him to watch

If he sees a scene he likes he'll make noises while simultaneously pulling you by your sleeve to get your attention while motioning to the screen

Drayton:

Definitely a big westerns fan

Will sit on the couch silently laughing or smiling at the screen only occasionally asking you questions about the movie

If your showing him a new movie that you picked up then he'll probably make some random comments like "damn so this is what the new stuff is like" or "quality has really changed since I was a boy" but trys not to talk too much

Will fall asleep during the movie then wake up mid throw down confused and asking questions about whos winning

If the the twins come down to watch with yall then the night wont be so peaceful. Chop top will be jumping around repeating the same phrase over and over again and nubbins will be mocking the characters and laughing.

Thats when drayton gets the broom and all hell breaks loose

Also i hope you know i genuinely laughed when you said he mightve fished it up. And then i was like "Do Trolls fish? Would that be considered an act of aggression against the top two castes?" and then i decided it would be really fucking funny if Griann was fishing and then Scar swam over, and either purposefully or not, got caught on Grianns line, so our beloved candy blood man fishes up his beloved moirail. I imagine it has happened on multiple occasions.

I am so excited you said that because i personally love Cub and Convex so much, they mean so much to me. Also Iskall!! I love that man!!! And Doc would be such a fun addition to the cast (I personally imagine him as an indigo blood because.... well. sometimes he reminds me of Equius. And despite my hatred for Equius i say this in the most affectionate way if that makes sense) (I dont hate Doc hes such a silly guy)

Dont feel too much pressure about the ships! I can't speak on behalf of anyone else but i know i personally am happy to wait to see them whenever youre ready to put them out, although i AM excited to see who.

I think word of mouth spreading also works really well, although I am genuinely so interested in how exactly it got up to Scar in the first place. As in like what is the lineage from Griann to Scar. I feel like I'd need to know the other blood castes of the cast, and also how closely you're sticking to troll society canon in the way that generally high and low bloods dont mesh too often.

Also, if you have decided it. Im very interested in learning who/what everyones lusus is? If you even just have a combination of animals for a few.

I'm assuming you welcome fanart, but if we slightly change designs/make our own designs (for trolls whose designs haven't made their appearance yet), is that ok?

Oh man, I think Griann definitely has to fish now & yes, he 110% fishes Scar up on multiple occasions. Actually, fuck it, that might be how they meet. In fact… while they knew each other to the extent of being vaguely recognized usernames on the VLARP forums earlier, they actually met in person when Scar got tangled up in one of Griann’s (illegal) fishing nets. Griann had been preparing himself for a fight or flight kinda situation when he noticed a violet blood in his nets, but that proved rather unnecessary. Scar, while he gave Griann some crap about how his nets ought to be more visible, was much more interested in chatting than actually in any way making Griann pay for the slight. This became A Thing, Scar occasionally getting caught up in the nets, though it was never really clear how often this was an accident or not. When Griann was looking for people for 3rd Life, he happened to mention it to Scar, who demanded he be allowed to play. Now, at this point, Scar was really just ‘that odd violet blood who can’t avoid nets & talks a lot & thank fuck doesn’t want me culled’ to Griann. However, when Griann recognized his username from around the community, he figured he’d give Scar a chance.

(There is definitely some angst in here somewhere about how Griann didn’t see Scar for multiple perigees after 3rd Life & how despite their moirallegence during the game, Griann came to doubt whether Scar still wanted anything to do with him after the blood bath in the cactus ring…)

Interesting to think of Doc as an indigo blood! Though I am tempted to make him a low blood with no psychic powers…. Hm… I’ll have to give this more thought… (Okay adding this last minute before posting, but gold blood Doc whose lusus is a swarm of bees that help run all his tech. You know. The Hivemind.)

Okay, so lusii. Here’s who I’ve got figured out from my list:

- Scar: some sort of mercat? Like a purrbeast, but aquatic. A murrbeast if you will.

- Lizzie: Gl’bgloyb, ‘cause she’s every fuchsia’s lusus

- Jimmie: canary. It just has to a canary. Tiny fragile bird that Jimmie’s constantly desperately trying to keep alive.

- Tangoh: a warden. Don’t ask me how wardens got on Alternia, but they are definitely a thing there in this AU. Other trolls (especially low bloods who don’t know him) are terrified of Pancakes, but Tangoh mostly regards him with fond exasperation as he needs a lot of looking after.

- Wrehnn: dog/woofbeast, think German Shepard

- Gem: A deer, but if deer were terrifying predators. It looks like a deer for the most part & people tend to underestimate Gem when she shows up on a skittery prey animal. That is, until her lusus opens her mouth & they see the impossible number of teeth she has.

- Bedubs: a horse of some kind, for sure. Maybe a unicorn, who are seen as fearsome beasts on Alternia. After all, what’s more hardcore than having a single, sharp horn for goring on your forehead?

- Pearle: owl-wolf. Like a wolf that’s got giant eyes & owl wings.

- Mummbo: giant moth

- Eethos: arctic fox with moose antlers

- Skizzl: Irish Wolfhound

- Martyn: snow creeper named Colin

- Joel: honey badger named Jeremy

- Cleaoh: Snow leopard

- Bigbee: a frog the size of a pit bull

- Impuls: ground pangolin. Can’t explain this really, but both my fiancé & I came to this independently. So uh I guess Impuls(e) is pangolin coded??? (Something about burrowing, something about being cute as fuck but razor sharp, something about looking like they want to ask you to a middle school dance.)

- Scohtt: sea otter

- Griann: chicken. Might even actually be a Minecraft chicken, not sure how committed to that bit I am.

Whoops totally just got absorbed in this & figured out all the lusii lol. But this was so much fun, my fiancé & I have been researching animals & YouTubers for the last like hour or so & now my search history is all stuff like “weird big cat” & “animals that are cute & friendly but also could definitely kill you.”

I’m sticking to the separation between castes pretty loosely, mostly because (spoiler) a lot of the out of game plot revolves around rebellion against The Condesce. So it would make sense that trolls who want to overthrow the status quo would be less bound by social norms. Every group pretty much has at least a blue blood or higher in it, & at least one low blood. Not necessarily because I planned that, it’s just sorta how things shook out.

For fanart, yes, omg I welcome it so much! If you want to tweak designs a bit or make up a design, that’s cool. (Though also, if you want in AU references for anyone, I’m always happy to throw together a rough reference sheet! Might take me a day or so, depending on spoon levels, but I’d be delighted to have a reason to draw any of the many trolls I haven’t yet!)

So I came up with my own player (again), or at least an idea. I was inspired not just by your writings but these three songs.

A player that's emotional and quick to form attachments, a player that tries to give their vessels the best outcome each run but can't, someone always gets hurt, and it kills them on the inside.

Once they got transported to the game they instantly became an overseer of the grunts inhabiting the world, taking the sun's place and becoming the moon. Or the equivalent of it, they refuse to come near the world in fear that they might lash out due to their emotional instability, making things worse. You know, like how the moon has an effect on our tides if it gets close.

Their face is covered up by a shadow, there's three phases to it, “new moon” is when it's covering the whole face with the faintest light surrounding the outline of their head. While “half moon” and “full moon” are pretty self explanatory.

Their strings have the solidity of violin strings and shimmer in the light, a feeling of drowsiness takes over the puppet when the strings take hold of them.

Has a soft spot for Hofnarr, therefore they stole him oway before he had the chance of becoming Tricky, one of their greatest failures from previous attempts, he's in a coma the whole time he's up there because the god don't know what to do with him, or how to stop his inevitable transformation.

They did learn how to communicate through dreams, though the grunts that are subjected to them have a hard time remembering the dreams, except the feeling it left with them. So Hofnarr isn't completely unconscious, they try to keep him company through the dreams.

Due to their insistent attempts at making their vessels' lives better and failing they changed from trying to change it directly to something more discrete once they ended up in the world. No more will their vessels bodies burn from old scars, instead they will appear on the deities back in the shape of debris, burns, bullet wounds and so, so much more. They've grown used to it but too much at the same time can prove critical. Much like how the other side of our moon that's facing the vast unknown has been damaged by asteroids.

Their pain is tremendous but their love is bigger.

But everyone has their breaking point, they just hope they're far oway enough that they don't harm anyone when, or if it happens.

And that's where the last song comes in, this last (in progres) phase is called “Mourning Star” in which their face is lit up ablaze, their choice of weapon is a morning star plucked from their back. They are no longer shredded in darkness, showing off their pain and sorrow that's overshadowed by their rage field might. No longer holding back their emotions and laying waste to the land they once sought to help prosper. This phase will most likely never be seen, not unless the employers get involved or there's more players, but even with those scenarios it would be a slim chance. If anything they could help the suffering player.

There like a glass cannon, they can conflict dubious amounts of damage but can just as easily be killed due to taking so much of others pain, letting their selfless actions become their hubris, Hank just needs the courage to kill another sun.

Side note, I'm thinking of renaming this phase to “Burning Star” and calling the much more mentally well and heald phase “Mourning Star”, showing that they're still sad but they're no longer holding it in to an unhealthy degree. I just really like the name is all.

Also it's not just there vessel they visit in their dreams but some npc's too, because they've grown attached.

Thoughts?

I think it's overall interesting! The Player takes up a celestial watcher role and begins to alter what would happen. It's kind of a catch 22, however. Now that they changed the route of Nevada's history by removing Tricky from the equation, various things are now bound to change and happen. Hank won't lose his jaw. The Auditor and Tricky demon hybrid won't occur. Depending on the time the Player spirits away Hoffnar, it will also impact the eventual downfall of Nexus City. In short, a LOT of things will change. Especially since the sky was still grey (which means they still had the sun) at the time of Hoffnar being stolen away. A key element in Nevada's history has been removed, which means the usual story and events won't occur. Plus, maybe the moon will change and most of the populace takes notice. Maybe the Player is even hiding from the employers and decided to disguise themselves as a celestial body in the skybox of Nevada. It's a clever plan, especially since they'll be looking down at Nevada, not up at the moon and sun. I also get the vibe that this Player would embody the whole "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" meaning. They save Hoffnar and take hits for their favorite vessels, but they risk injury and have altered the normal path of Nevada. Which could backfire horribly, now that they have no idea what will happen. Maybe without Hoffnar, the plan to siege Nexus City fails and Phobos lives, making Gestalt arrive 30 years earlier than intended. Maybe Hank doesn't have someone equally as powerful as him now that Tricky is gone and still has his face intact.

Maybe the Sheriff never gets to activate the improbability drives because Jeb is in Nexus Prison from a failed coup attempt. Thus, allowing Hank to kill him undisturbed.

There are lots of what ifs that could happen from the Player meddling with the timeline to protect what they can. Unbeknownst that they are putting everything at risk at the same time.

I know that most of the drivers know about fanfiction being out there but the thought of them discovering ships still freaks me out so much.

A lot of people will say don't write RPF then but there is a big difference between just writing it for fandom and locking it on ao3 OR actively pushing it towards the people it's inspired by. The latter can easily be avoided and not avoiding it is the sole thing that can make RPF problematic.

TWITTER IS TOO CLOSE.

This makes me so uncomfortable and angry at people who are not thinking about boundaries. Even if the author consents to their fanfiction being out there (but why would you?) you can't get the consent from the people it's about. If they discover it on ao3 then that means that they sought it out and that's okay but if they stumble upon it on twitter because it gets basically shoved into their faces? No.

It's not funny and if you're unlucky, they'll not only think it's weird, they might actually hate it and feel gross about people writing about them having kinky sex with y/n or their colleague.

In extreme cases, famous people discovering fanfiction about themselves altered how they behaved in public. In other extreme cases, they took legal actions, because they felt really ridiculed or uncomfortable.

Fanfiction is for fans. Leave it in strict fandom spaces. How often do people need to say that? You can't always avoid the drivers seeing it, but you can at least make sure that it's not jumping at them when they don't want it to jump at them, which will be the case for most if not all of them.

I don't want drivers to get linked to my tumblr without either my or their consent. It's overstepping a line.

there's a huge difference between Knowing About The Existence of Fanfics and being Actively Made Aware of Certain Fics. sure, they know about fanfics. sure, they know they're being shipped. but to have the shippy things/fanfics/fanart actively shown to you is a whole other thing.

'don't write RPF' is a very dumb thing to say. that is not the issue. the issue is that fandom is for the fans and Not for the people it's about. when i'll make the silly little 4433 discord server, that's for the shippers, the FANS. that is Not for max, lewis, or anyone who knows them personally. when we write fics, that's for the fans, Not for the guys in question!!

twitter is indeed too close. tumblr is The Perfect platform for it. i remember when the people from Watcher Entertainment announced they'd make a tumblr blog and sooo many fans were like Alarm Alarm Must Change My Main Blog So They'll Never Find Out!

i've heard charles is notoriously known for looking up his own name so for the love of god don't post shippy things with his name on twitter.

and also a huge fucking annoyance of mine is that the official accs (red bull, f1, mclaren, whatever) have started using shipnames. don't. that's not for you.

100% agreed w the difference between 'stumbling upon ao3' and 'getting a tweet sent to you with your name'. also a PSA to all RPF authors: if twitter accs ever ask if they can rec your fic on twitter, be flattered and say no. that is not the place for us to be.

i don't think that the drivers will actively read what it's all about, i think they'll see a link and go oh No Nope I am Leaving. years of PR training must've also taught them what to stay away from. but this is the same w people in Max Fewtrell's chat telling him to go to ao3 & wattpad. i was fuming. you Do Not Do That. (sure i wrote a fic about it but that's beside the point).

yeah so i wouldn't worry too much about the extreme cases. this isn't septiplier. the most important difference being: these drivers barely handle their own social media anyway. they're incredibly well managed. this doesn't mean we can do whatever, but it does mean that the chances of something bad happening are smaller i'd reckon.

recently made this metaphor which may be a bit tough to convey in words but: the drivers, the sport, the factual things are like a planet, and fandom is the moon. the moon is for us fans to gather and circle around the planet and occasionally visit and say hi. but to never ever get the drivers with us to the moon. they don't belong there. if one driver gets to the moon, the moon will get closer to the planet and before we know it, the moon is clashing with the planet and nothing's left of either of the two anymore.

drivers knowing about the existence of fanfics as a term is fine. drivers knowing about certain fics is not. drivers knowing about your tumblr is not. fandom for the fans. not for them. don't make those two world collide.
