Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a great example of fandoms ruining their own movie experience. Often fandoms are right when they think a movie doesn’t deliver on their favorite franchise. But in The Last Jedi, the Star Wars fandom kind of proved that their heads are in a terrible place.

I will explain.

Movies are meant to reach in and grab your emotions. You’re supposed to get out of your own head, and the story is supposed to get under your mental defenses, so that you not only suspend disbelief, but suspend your inner film critic and enjoy an experience/learn what the movie is trying to tell you.

If a movie has terrible form and repellant content, like bad acting or a message like “cold-blooded murder is neat” then people generally don’t get to have that experience because the movie couldn’t reach in and grab your emotions.

The Last Jedi was not a bad movie. I know for a fact that it one hundred percent DID what it set out to do, in the theaters. What happened was, you Star Wars fans enjoyed the movie while you were watching it. Then you got home and got in your own heads and read what some other people thought and watched some Mark Hamill interviews and retroactively decided you actually didn’t like it.

I know you liked it because I was in the theaters with you. I saw TLJ on opening night, in a packed theater of dressed-up fans. Then I saw it three more times in theaters. I heard fans clap when Luke fought Kylo Ren and said “see you around, kid.” I heard them laugh when he threw the lightsaber over his shoulder. I heard them applaud when Snoke got cut in half. I heard no groans of disbelief during Holdo’s Hyperdrive ramming—you could’ve heard a pin drop, exactly as the filmmakers intended. I heard fans holding their breath or whispering, “please please please” when Rey said to Kylo Ren, “Please don’t go this way.” I heard, all four times, thunderous applause during the ending shot, when a kid with a broom is revealed to have the Force.

‘When the lights came on and everyone was leaving the theater, I heard NO ONE saying:

“I can’t believe they ruined Luke.”

“What was with Holdo? Hyperdrive doesn’t work like that.”

“I hate Rey, she’s a Mary-Sue.”

“What was with that casino planet scene, that was useless!”

I heard people excitedly talking about how awesome the film was. I heard them repeating the jokes to each other, or sharing their favorite parts. I heard them hoping Ben Solo would be redeemed for the next movie. The closest I ever got to anything even approaching negative was, “What was with the blue milk alien?” Which is fair. But my point is, even when the movie was over and we were leaving the theaters, the fans loved it. At the time. When the movie was all they had to base their opinion on.

I sat next to a young man who is now the loudest Internet Proclaimer of TLJ’s supposed failure, on opening night. But at the time, when the movie ended, he said, “that’s what The Force Awakens should’ve been! That was so great.”

Then he went home and watched EFAP and came back and said, “yeah I liked it at first but that’s because I was stupid and didn’t know any better. Now I know it’s terrible.”

What? No, you’re not stupid! It was a good movie. It said exactly what it wanted to say, and it had your attention and your emotions the whole time. It even set up the next film for great, new, unexpected success (regardless of how ROS squandered that opportunity.)

But this is how a lot of fans are.

They have pre-set expectations of what they want. Or they don’t have any expectations and they wait for their favorite influencer to tell them what to think. And then, even when a movie is good, they change their own minds about it later to line up with what they thought they wanted.

Not what made the most sense. Not what made the best story. Not what could be an enduring classic. Not what grabbed the emotions most effectively. Just “I want what I want.”

Guess what, at the end of Casablanca, the hero doesn’t get the girl. He loses her. But he becomes a man who takes risks and goes back to living life because of his experience, as sad as it may have been. If audiences back then could complain loudly enough on the internet and get what they want, Casablanca would have had a crappy sequel where the guy gets the girl, and the whole first movie is ruined. Or the filmmakers wouldn’t have been brave enough to do what the story needed in the first place.

TLJ is the perfect example of a good movie ruined by it’s own supposed fandom, who just want what they want, and can’t admit when a movie was good, or even that it moved them, because it’s not what they wanted, in hindsight.

pairings: House x Wilson

Characters: Gregory House, James Wilson, Lisa Cuddy.

November 4th: Masquerade

“Hey, are you going to that masquerade ball tonight?” Wilson asked, coming in to House’s office.

“That charity event where we all show up wearing what we normally would and adding in some dumb little masks?” House questioned, “sadly yes, Cuddy said I can get out of two weeks of clinic duty if I go and perform a few songs.”

“She’s getting you to perform?” Wilson asked.

“Yep,” House replied, “apparently someone backed out last minute and she needs a replacement for an hour.”

“What will you be playing? Piano? guitar? Harmonica?”

“Probably piano, maybe a bit of singing,” House told him.

“You’re going to sing?” Wilson questioned.

“Does that shock you?” House replied.

“No, I just don’t hear you sing often, everytime I come round and you’re playing music it’s usually some piano piece,” the younger man commented.

“Well looks like you get to witness something extraordinary tonight then,” House joked.

“So it seems,” Wilson replied before leaving the office.

“House where the hell have you been? You’re on in 10 minutes,” Cuddy said as she and Wilson walked over to House who had just come through the door.

“I had to pick the right mask,” he replied, “tell me does this one make my ass look big?” Cuddy rolled her eyes and walked off without giving him an answer. House turned to Wilson and raised an eyebrow expectantly. Wilson just looked back at him before sighing.

“It makes your ass look great, now hurry up and get on stage,” he said before ushering his friend in the direction of the stage.

House spent the next hour playing beautiful melodies on the piano, some were his favourite classical pieces, others were more upbeat and got people dancing on the dance floor. Wilson sat at the bar the entire time listening to his friend play, he was pleasantly surprised by the singing, he knew House could sing but didn’t hear it often, but it was mesmerising and he found himself getting lost in his voice.

“This next one is going to be my last,” he heard House say from the stage, “It’s going to be a slow song, so grab a partner and hit the dance floor,” Wilson chuckled slightly at this, House was a natural performer. He heard the piano tune start to play out and listened intently to House’s voice.

‘Wise men say, only fools rush in, but I can’t help falling in love with you.’

House’s voice fit this song well and Wilson found himself staring at his best friend.

‘Shall I stay? Would it be a sin if I can’t help falling in love with you?’

The people on the dance floor seemed to approve of this song as they swayed with their loved ones.

‘Like a river flows, surely to the sea, darling so it goes, some things were meant to be.’

As House sang he looked out over the people on the dance floor before his eyes settled on Wilson.

‘Take my hand, take my whole life too, for I can’t help falling in love with you.’

Wilson’s heart started to beat quickly when House sang this, they had locked eyes and neither were willing to look away.

‘Like a river flows, surely to the sea, darling so it goes some things are meant to be.’

It was almost as if House were serenading him. In that moment, he felt as if they were the only two people in the room and he wondered if House felt the same.

‘Take my hand, take my whole life too, for I can’t help falling in love with you.’

House didn’t move his eyes away from Wilson and the oncologist could feel himself melt into those blue eyes.

‘For I can’t help falling in love with you.’

As House finished the song, Wilson finished his drink, still locking eyes with the older man on the stage. House broke the eye contact first as people applauded him, he said a quick thank you and headed off of the stage for someone else to take his place, he looked over to the bar and noticed that his friend was no longer sitting there. He searched the room but there was no sign of him.

Wilson opened the door to his office and quickly shut it behind him. He ripped off his mask and undid his tie slightly. His emotions had all suddenly hit him, he had known for a long time that he had feelings for House but always assumed the other man was straight and didn’t have any feelings back, but after that performance he was having doubts. The tension between them as House sang was electric and it took all of his effort not to go back to the party, grab his friend and make out with him. He was torn from his thoughts when the door opened.

“Was my singing really that bad?” House asked as he stepped into the room and closed the door, Wilson turned to face him but didn’t reply, “I mean I thought you were enjoying it, you didn’t seem to move at all for the whole hour,” Wilson still didn’t say anything, “have you been drinking too much or something because I don’t think you’ve listened to a word I’ve said this whole ti-“ House was cut off when Wilson suddenly crashed into him, pinning him to the door with his body. One of Wilson’s hands was on House’s hip and he was leaning against the door with the other.

“I need you to tell me that you want this House,” Wilson said, voice low and seductive, he could feel House’s heart pounding against him and saw the other man swallow hard, completely at a loss for words, “please House,” he pleaded.

“I want this,” House whispered. Wilson pulled House’s mask from his face and looked into those beautiful blue eyes that he spent a large amount of time thinking about. He leant forward and took his friend’s lips into a kiss, it was soft at first but was soon deepened as the two men succumbed to their lust for each other. House moved his hand along the door feeling for the lock and turning it when he found it before bringing his arms up around Wilson’s neck and moving them both further into the room. They stumbled towards the couch, House almost falling as he dropped his cane but Wilson’s arm’s around him kept him upright. They landed on the couch, a trail of jackets and ties behind them.

“You sure about this?” Wilson asked, House didn’t answer with his words, instead he locked lips with Wilson again and started to work on the buttons on the other man’s shirt.

The two doctors found themselves at the party again just as it was finishing, both checking that their clothes were looking pristine again, Wilson flattening his hair from where House’s fingers had been brushing through it.

“Where the hell have you two been? I was just about to announce the total amount that we’d raised tonight,” Cuddy asked, coming up to the two men.

“We were making sweet, sweet love in Wilson’s office,” House replied, “this limp isn’t just from the pain in my leg,” Cuddy huffed and walked away from the two men.

“I can never get a straight answer from you,” they heard her mutter as she left.

“Oh there was definitely nothing straight about it,” Wilson commented to her retreating back causing House to laugh.

“So want to get out of here?” House asked the smaller man.

“Let’s listen to her speech first, I think she might actually kill us if we miss any more of this thing,” Wilson replied giving House a smile, the two men stood together at the back of the room as Cuddy gave her speech, they were so close that their hands were brushing against each other, the electricity between them making promises for the night ahead.

I never watched G*od Om*ns, so it was fandom again with the "they're gay"???

At least Star Trek did this right, you know, not lying to please someone. Spock and Kirk was never a thing and also was never meant to be a thing. But the creator himself said, if you wanna see them like that, it's fine. Do what you want. But in canon it's not that way.

But really, somehow fandom seems to make it easy for creators to just bait, but never commit and they're happy, wtf.

And IF they get actual lgbt rep, they're upset because it's not the character they WANTED to be lgbt....

Actually, the fandom is largely against them being gay because they claim it’s “nonbinary and asexual representation”.

Which bothers me just because they’re basically applauding homophobic tropes simply because they benefit from homophobic tropes.

I want to make it clear that my problem isn’t “why aren’t you making the characters canonically gay?!!?!!? This is homophobic!!!11!1!1”. I’m fine with the relationship remaining a close friendship canonically. And canonically speaking, I think I might prefer that tbh.

My problem is with how the original homophobia in the book sort of goes ignored, and how the writer teases and hints and in this case I would actually say baits… and then receives praise from the fandom for doing what everyone else does when it comes to gay pairings.

Basic overview of the situation from my POV:

Book establishes a character as a gay stereotype

Immediately goes “but he isn’t gay because angels are sexless unless they make an effort” (IMO the sexless thing could’ve been established in many other ways. Did it really have to be done in a “don’t worry he’s not gay” way?)

Book proceeds to make the gay stereotype thing a running joke, with the character being called various homophobic slurs (but see, it’s funny because it’s misplaced homophobia. He doesn’t actually deserve the homophobia he experiences like an actual gay person would /s)

Show comes out, includes romantic music, lots of subtext, and the writer confirming that it’s a “love story”, as well as the actors confirming they acted “in love”. Except… it’s done vaguely enough that anyone can come away with their own interpretation. Which is nothing new. There’s literally nothing revolutionary about leaving a same sex relationship “up for interpretation”.

All the “representation” actually comes from what the writer says on Twitter. He goes on about how they’re sexless and therefore cannot possibly be gay but are also inherently “queer”… but doesn’t actually add this into canon. So casual viewers are not experiencing any sort of “representation”.

IMO this is a homophobic media trope. Give two men or two women scenes that would be explicitly romantic if it were a man and a woman, tease the audience with “maybeee~”, but still make sure that ultimately, homophobes won’t be offended and can come away from the material thinking “what good friends!”. Say “it’s up for interpretation”, which is something I hardly see with M/F pairings. Especially with the virtue signalling on social media.

Keep in mind, something isn’t “representation” if everyone comes away with different ideas of what was represented. If one person can think “they’re gay and married” and another can think “they’re aspec and in a QPR”, that’s not representation. Representation only happens when something is undeniable. For example, a character who is undeniably bisexual because they are shown to be interested in both men and women (biphobic pannies coming to their own conclusions don’t count here lol, since bi = pan and pan = bi, so even if they claim the character is pansexual, they’re still getting the same outcome)

Now here’s where my issue comes in.

Instead of calling this out, the fandom runs with it and benefits from it. A vague relationship on screen allows them to claim representation for themselves, usually for made up labels like aspec, SAM type asexuality, queerplatonic, etc.

They praise the writer for being “inclusive”, and for “representing” them… when really this “inclusivity” is a result of homophobic tropes, and there’s actually no representation at all. Keep in mind, all the clues for what could be going on come from social media. A casual viewer is either going to see two gay men, or two good friends. They have no way of knowing about the woke “queer” bullshit unless they’re heavily involved in fandom.

The writer has a habit of teasing things and being intentionally misleading. Here’s an example

Not telling what’s going to happen and not giving spoilers, is very different from intentionally baiting. “Wait and see” sounds like a “yes”… because it would be incredibly shitty to lead people on when the answer is a solid “no”.

However, considering he’s only half of the writers, and establishing a relationship other than what he and the other writer discussed would be disrespectful… the answer is very likely “no”.

So just say “no”. It’s okay to say “no, they’re not getting together”. But he knows that people are more likely to watch if they’re waiting for the two to get together the whole time…so he has to keep it vague and mysterious and he has to keep baiting.

Of course the answer could very well be “yes” and that’s what he’s hinting at. But I highly doubt it, mostly because of the “only one author around” issue. So until I’m proven wrong, I will maintain that this is him being intentionally misleading, as he admitted to.

So that’s where I have the issue—I wouldn’t have an issue if he just straight up said “no, they’re not going to hook up, they’re good friends”. What is an issue, is perpetuating classic homophobic media tropes, of giving just enough but not too much…and then saying “it’s up for interpretation”. Which roughly translates to “here’s some crumbs for the gays”. What’s especially an issue, is then disguising this under woke kweer language and lapping up all the praise you can get for being such an “Ally” to “queers”.

And of course, I have an issue with how the fandom receives this. Because instead of calling the bullshit out for what it is, they actually call gay people talking about homophobia “aphobic discourse”, and say things like “gay men have enough representation!!”, and try to argue that actually, the homophobic trope of vague same sex relationships that are left up to interpretation, is actually super inclusive and amazing and progressive because it represents asexuals, aromantics, nonbinary people, queerplatonic relationships, etc.

Or they put down gay people for wanting more explicit representation, because “uhh… some people are aro!!! Some people are ace!!”. Despite missing that non romantic or non sexual relationships between men can be found in pretty much every single piece of media ever, and is 100% socially acceptable. Explicit gay relationships however, are still looked down upon.

And then they act like the religious homophobes, by taking “explicit gay representation” to mean “explicit hardcore sex scene”. Like I’ve seen nobody demand a sex scene when they’re talking about gay representation in G O. I’m certainly not. Yet the kweers always manage to interpret gay people wanting proper representation as “you want sex!!! You want porn!!!”. To me, it really seems no different from religious homophobes seeing an advertisement with two men and immediately talking about how it promotes “deviant gay sex”.

What worries me is that these types of fandoms—who applaud creators for giving gay people crumbs—set a precedent for other creators. They make it known that gay representation actually isn’t needed for media to be praised. They give creators a safe way to get out of representing gay couples—while keeping both the queers and homophobes happy at the same time. Now they can hop on social media and say “no, they’re not gay, but it’s up for interpretation!” And the queers will think this is top tier representation, and praise the creators for it.

As always, this turned into a long spiel lmao. But that’s an explanation of my thoughts and why I’m frustrated. Again—I’m not mad that a romantic relationship isn’t canon. That in itself isn’t homophobic. But the way that the writer and fandom are handling it, is.

I’m not familiar with Star Trek (I do want to watch it, mostly to understand the Star Trek vs Star Wars stuff lmao.), but it sounds like that’s a good way to handle it. If you don’t want to make a relationship canon—that’s fine. But be honest about it, don’t drag fans along with teasing and baiting.

What did Jenny Nicholson do to John Boyega? Genuinely curious, it's the first time I'm hearing of this and would love to know so I can stop paying her any attention if she doesn't deserve it

Disclaimer before I get started: I’m a white woman and this topic is about racism perpetuated by white woman so please keep that in mind as you read. I’m gonna do my absolute best to echo what I’ve seen black people say about this situation and this type of covert racism but I am not black so they get final say on this topic.

This is not an easy thing to explain in it’s entirety because it happened about a year ago on Twitter and Jenny deleted a lot of Tweets after the fact because she’s a spineless coward. I’m going to do my best to remember and I’ll include any receipts I can find, which unfortunately will be limited to what people saved at the time. :(

This all started because John made a joke about Rey and Finn having sex on Twitter.

It was a harmless silly joke. And it was not about Reylo. But Reylos took it upon themselves to be personally offended and absolutely LOST it at him, calling him a misogynist, saying his statement was sexist, and sending him a slew of harassment, hate, and racism.

Now there’s a lot of hypocrisy going into this controversy because Reylos are notorious for sexualizing Rey often to disgusting degrees, like demanding the actual Star Wars movies be more explicit, saying light sabers are phallic symbols, accusing JJ Abrams of wanting Rey to stay his pure virginal Mary Sue, etc. (I’m not gonna bother providing receipts on this, just search the Reylo hashtags on Tumblr or Twitter, or check out the Twitter @ShitReylosSay). Let me make it clear that sexually explicit =/= sexist, and John’s statement was not sexist. Period. At the end of the day I think they were just looking for an excuse to attack John. Because he cannot breath without people attacking him.

Well John noticed right away it was Reylos going at him so he took the opportunity to drag Reylo.

Was he being a petty? Of course he was, but he had EVERY RIGHT TO after the endless racism he has endured from the Star Wars fandom. People are always applauding white actors like Robert Pattinson and Jacob Elordi for shitting on shows, movies, or fandoms related to their work. But when John does it suddenly he’s “unprofessional”?

John eventually started replying to some of the Tweets being sent at him.

They were all along this vein where a person was being outright hostile and vile, so yeah, he had every right to respond.

This all culminated in him picking out a bunch of hateful Tweets being thrown his way and posting this video to Instagram.

Well this triggered Reylos even more so they shifted tactics and took the whole white feminist approach that he was “attacking SHIPPING CULTURE which is majorly made up of WOMEN so he’s a MISOGYNIST”. They wrote these long essays and Twitter threads about how John was spreading harmful messages etc. But he wasn’t attacking shipping culture, he was attacking Reylo. Because it’s vile and abusive and he was no longer contractually obligated to endure it. And honestly? His tweet was mild at best. 

But please remember all this started because John made a joke that Rey and Finn ended up together. HE DID NOT START ON REYLO. THEY STARTED ON HIM. Everything that happened was reactionary on his part. We as a society refuse to let black people defend themselves and it’s fucked up and racist.

One of these pseudo-intellectuals spreading the whole “John is a misogynist and Reylo shippers are his VICTIMS uwu” narrative was none other than Jenny Nicholson.

Just so you know the “inbreds” comment was photoshopped by a white fan, not that Jenny would tell her incredibly large audience this to prevent spreading further slander about John.

A lot of people started replying to Jenny telling her why SHE as a WHITE WOMAN framing herself and other Reylos as the VICTIM of John, a BLACK MAN who did absolutely nothing to her or anyone besides not like Reylo and defend himself against online harassment and bullying, was racist.

And you know what she did? She blocked them all.

And to this day she continues to block anyone who brings it up because she’s a spineless coward who can’t be bothered to own up to her racist slip-ups.

Some of these people were being mean, but most were not. Some were nicer than she deserved. She still blocked them. She didn’t want to see any form of criticism (constructive or not) sent her way.

She even had the nerve to go at John AGAIN during the BLM protests after George Floyd was murdered because she has no fucking clue how to read a room. This was her bringing back her distasteful dislike of John DURING THE BLM MOVEMENT when John made that emotional speech in London’s Hyde Park. This was not the time or place but she can’t seem to help herself.

As a white woman with respect, authority, and a large audience, who viewed as an “intellect” on online spaces so her opinion is taken more seriously thank others, the things she says matter and impact a large group of people. She used her whiteness and her woman-ness to frame herself and other white women as John’s victim when she was not, because she knew it would be easy and she would get away with it. And she did and she has. As one person in the screencaps above tweeted so gracefully, she “participated in the fandom dogpile of John” when he had done nothing wrong except exist and have opinions.

Jenny is your classic example of a performative ally and she accidently showed her true colors. I no longer trust any white female video essayist who ship Reylo and are friends with Jenny because you know they all silently agree with what she was stupid enough to say out loud. This means Lindsay Ellis as well.

I believe the reason she refuses to acknowledge this situation is because she would be forced to either apologize or confess she still stands by what she said. And based off her vague-tweeting the situation as recent as June of 2020 I feel safe saying she still believes she was in the right.

The receipts I offered are only a small part of a much larger jumbled mess. I didn’t include everything there was but even this small amount is pretty damning.

Been having a weird/off week. But you know what’s made it better?

Spending some more time in Midvale with Supergirl Ep. 6x06, “Prom Again!”

Spoilers!

So! Last week was the fun shenanigans/set-up, THIS WEEK we get the emotional pay-offs and oooooh. So good. So good.

Historically, Supergirl kinda struggles to stick its landing when it comes to paying off its set-ups, but I think this episode is really solid in that regard.  

And thus, we begin! With the forest showdown! And I love it. Love every part of it. Love Kara flying in and freeing Nia and Brainy with her heat vision, love that one of Kenny and Kara’s go-to plays is called ‘Speed Racer’, love Brainy’s whole, ‘my buddy’s gonna BLAST YA if you don’t cooperate’ and Kara just. Threatens the bad guys from the shrubbery.

She’s supposed to be scary and intimidating with the heat vision eyes but dagnabbit...it’s just kind of cute.

Last week I completely forgot to mention how much I love that Kenny and Kara have go-to plays WITH NAMES. (NERDY names at that!) And also that Alex is so exasperated by it.

JUST YOU WAIT, KIDDO. 

Fast forward to the Fortress and everyone’s happy! The day is saved! The timeline is restored! Alex apologizes for being a bit of a grouch!

*cough* understatement *cough*

And Brainy doesn’t get the fist bump, d’awwwww. XD

Nia has a lovely chat with Kara wherein SHE is the elder hero who inspires the youths. Nice. NICE.

And THEN, the first of some good Danvers Sisters scenes...we’ll call this one ‘the mini-van chat.’ 

Kara apologizing about the ‘Zookeeper fight-y thing’ and the GLASSES FIDGET.

Shout out to the writers, who were ON-POINT with the dialogue for both parts, and shout out to the young actresses as well. It’s...honestly uncanny, how well they nailed playing Kara and Alex. 

(I mean, we knew this already, of course, but GOSH. What a wonderful showcase. So, so glad, that we got such a large Midvale story in the final season.)

Right, so, another dialogue highlight from the mini-van chat (but like, not in a silly way. More in a, ‘oh wow that’s very sweet’ way) Alex, to Kara about her choice: ‘It’s the right one because you made it.’

THESE KIDS.

Then we go to Nia and Brainy on the Legion Cruiser!

Nia’s outfit? Outstanding. Brainy’s mask? Admittedly a little distracting because it didn’t look like it was fitting quite right.

But A+ song choice for their dance, show. 

(Really, A+ song choices across the board. You can tell they were absolutely LOVING getting in all those needle drops.) 

And then we discover--ALL IS NOT WELL! THE TIMELINE IS STILL BROKEN!

Cat Grant has released the aliens! And she has been captured! And yet she remains heckin’ fearless!

Love that she calls Mitch ‘Mr. Blue Sky.’

It took me a while to warm up to this ‘new’ version of Cat Grant but this episode really gave her some fun stuff to do and yep, I dig it. Great stuff. 

Meanwhile, back at the prom...

I'm taking this moment to applaud the Supergirl folks for their very nice workarounds for ‘crowded’ locations this season thus far. The episodes have never felt like, overtly obvious in terms of Covid protocol impacts (I mean there are a few scenes here and there where you’re like, ‘oh, yeah, this is set up in this specific way to probably account for some production changes) but I’ve never felt that the episodes are losing anything, you know?

Case in point! Two episodes, set in a crowded high school! But most of the stuff takes place before/between classes, or outside!

(Specifically enjoyed all the outdoor stuff and natural lighting. It’s not quite the same as that LA sunshine, but. Still nice.)  

Anyways, in “Prom Again!” the action/discussions are set in the hallways/classrooms outside of the actual Prom. Inobtrusive! Makes sense for the story! Doesn’t compromise!

Gold stars for everyone. 

Kara and Kenny are BOTH unrelentingly cheesy--Kara even says as much--and it’s wonderful.

‘Hey Stargazer.’ Kara, you smooth operator you.

Shout out to Kenny’s bowtie, it’s great.

...Shout out to Kenny in general.

(Like, Will is great, but he’s got a lot to live up to, now.)

So FURTHER PROOF THAT THE TIMELINE IS BUSTED: Kara is going to stay in Midvale!

Me, knowing full well that Kara has to go to National City, but also being...just a liiiiittle bit team Kenny: 

And then...THE METEOR!

That Kara just. Body-slams.

It reminded me of another Danvers, who also body-slams some space stuff:

But UNLIKE Kara’s cross-company cousin, this particular move does not end well!

Because there’s KRYPTONITE! And also, a CLOAKED SPACESHIP, BLOCKING THE FALLING METEOR DEBRIS! And, you know, ALIEN HUNTERS THREATENING HIGH SCHOOLERS! And Kenny SACRIFICES HIMSELF FOR KARA!

(Well, okay. It’s tonight but you get the idea.)

Poor, sweet Kenny. Who feels WAY out of his depth as he’s imprisoned alongside Cat on the alien ship...but it does bring us one of her patented ‘tough love pep talks.’ Wherein she calls Kenny brilliant.

And also, Kendall.

Never change, Cat. Never change.

Also, “Go, go.”

Okay, some more rapid fire specifics that I enjoyed so that this list doesn’t get...too? Long? ...No promises.

‘That’s an 80% failure rate’ ‘Oh yes it’s terrible.’

The scene where the police have Kara, and Alex comes rushing out all, ‘that’s my sister!’ and Kara’s gonna just RISK EVERYTHING to fix this?

100/10, excellent, love to see that Danvers Sisters angst in the Worst Timeline. Also? Alex’s desperate little headshake, silently pleading for Kara to NOT DO THE THING???? Devastating. In the best way.

‘The world will know that name...Keira.’ 

No Plutonian Landshark sightings!?!? Not even a graphic on a computer screen? FOR SHAME!

THE WHOLE EPISODE(S) was a GOSHDARN DELIGHT, I TELL YA. (Did I say that last week? I might’ve said that last week, but I don’t care.)

And now, some slightly more in-depth, overall thoughts:

So, How ‘Bout Them Danvers: Not surprisingly, the girls end up in, if not the exact same place as the end of “Midvale”, then pretty darn close. I’m trying to avoid, like. All of fandom, these days, but unfortunately, the bad takes are numerous, and often untagged. So I did see a bunch of people insisting that Kenny living ‘ruined the Danvers’ relationship’ and that the show is ‘taking away everything that makes Kara Kara’

To which I say:

In the broadest terms, what needs to happen by episode’s end to match up with “Midvale”, and prep the kiddos for the stuff that happens in the Pilot - Kara needs to put the aspirations of super-ing on the backburner, and Alex needs to like. Not hate Kara, but also be committed to helping Kara keep her secret, you know...secret. 

All of these things are set up. I repeat: All. Of. Them.

And Kenny didn’t have to die!

(I will admit, I chuckled that they so blatantly teased an untimely demise for him...because I know it will annoy select corners of fandom.

Muhahahahaha.)

But anyways, back to those key ingredients for making a ‘Danvers Sisters in the same emotional place they were in @ Midvale’s end’ soup: Alex deals with that simmering resentment. Seeing Kara handle herself well in a super-ing context gives her that little, ‘hey, this isn’t so bad!’ outlook.

BUT INTERESTINGLY, in the Fixed Timeline, Alex and Kara don’t have that chat in the supply room, where Alex is like. ‘You CANNOT reveal your powers, BAD THINGS will happen if you do.’ 

That is saved for the Pilot!*

MEANWHILE. The Kara ingredients! She puts super-ing on hold. 

Her chat with Kenny functions as a replacement for her chat with J’onn-as-Not!Alura, in the sense that it’s here that she reveals that she didn’t choose to come to Midvale, she didn’t choose these powers. 

(...I can already sense fandom using those lines to prove their end-of-series theories and like. Ugh. Ugh.) 

But anyways. It’s also here that we get shades of Pilot!Kara, what with the season one conflict of being Super vs. being normal. 

It’s ALL THE SAME STUFF.

Fandom needs to like. Chill. 

And their (fake) concern for Kara’s characterization is entirely misplaced, because this was a really wonderful showcase for Kara in particular.

Like. The first episode was really Nia’s time to shine, and we still got solid Brainy and Nia action in this episode!

But man. That good Kara content.

THE CONTENT I CRAVE!

So speaking of good Kara content in particular, I LOVED Kara’s prom dress. It's got both a SKIRT. AND PANTS!

Amazing.

I know nothing of fashion, but it was very cute, very girly, and okay. Though I hate the comic, the one thing I actually liked about Future State is Kara’s costume. This was similar!

(Thank goodness it looked nothing like the prom dress from Rebirth. That...was a bit of a train wreck.)

(Look, not all comic artists are great clothes designers, it’s just how it is.)

We see the empowerment theme come up with Kara inspiring Kenny; he describes her as ‘an amazing light in a world of darkness’ and tells her that, ‘you changed me, Kara Zor-El.’

We love to see it. 

They also agree that stargazing and Monty Python make for the perfect prom these absolute NERDS I love them.

*Quick wibbly-wobbly, timey-whimey note WRT making this episode ‘fit’ with the Pilot: I’m not saying that it 100% does. There’s already the change with the Kryptonite, and the added info/awareness of the DEO. 

Those little changes, though, don’t really impact the overall arc of Kara and Alex, the way the emotional stuff might. 

Thus! The ‘Pilot’ of Earth Prime, and in fact, the ENTIRETY of the show’s run thus far most likely involved little differences throughout, but the emotional core is very close, if not the exact same.

BUT EITHER WAY, it doesn’t matter, because our Kara and Alex are still our Kara and Alex thanks to the multiple sets of memories! 

(So all of fandom’s freaking out is for naught. As it almost always is.) 

I bring this up because, again, as much as I talk about setting stuff up for where we find Kara six years from now--this Kara is a little different! She comes across as more confident, something Izabela Vidovic mentioned in an interview, when discussing her approach to playing Kara this time around. 

And now, Alex: Admittedly, she gets less focus as like, a solo-entity in these episodes--she really is there to serve the more Kara-centric plot. Personally, it didn’t bother me too much because outside of these flashback episodes, Alex has had some solid development and screen time, so. It balances out.

And the scenes we did get with those 2? Solid. Top tier. There was even a couch scene! Like, technically. Because there was a couch in the supply room. XD  

Spotlight on Kenny: fandom kinda loves to insist that all the men on Supergirl are trash, because, ya know. 'Feminism’ or whatever. It’s ships, it’s always ships. But, in fact! The dudes on Supergirl? Are actually wonderful! And Kenny is another example of a guy who isn’t afraid to be emotionally vulnerable, who 1000% supports Kara, but is also like. His own person. 

GOOD JOB, SHOW. GOOD JOB.

Brainy too, had some really nice stuff in terms of dealing with his emotions!

And it’s Brainy who gives us our closing line, as Nia asks him how he’s feeling now that they’ve accomplished their mission:

“Hopeful.”

NOICE.

In conclusion! “Prom Night” and “Prom Again!” were EXCELLENT! They had heart! They had stakes! They had the promised time-travel do-over alluded to in the titles! Outstanding performances from the entire cast! Tthe ‘young’ versions of characters in particular! And I WILL be watching these episodes on repeat throughout the three-month hiatus! XD

I’m a sucker for pregnancy fics, and I absolutely love this one! I believe this is the first ever Peaky Blinder fic, it explores many themes, but shows true love between reader and Finn. A must read (especially more than once).

Lord the gif you used had my melting, I loved your incorporation of preventiing Finn’s drug abuse, I applaud that as it is slightly concerning though it was common in those times. The humour you’ve used has me giggling (and I’m meant to be doing my school work) and goodness gracious the ending you used is fantastic, i love this fic so much!

I love the incorporation of Polly going back towards her gypsy roots, and how the rest of the family perceived it as “going off the rails”, I find it to be part of her personality and nature. I enjoy the simplicity of acts between reader and Finn for their initial introduction.You keep Finn’s boyish nature in mind, and it makes the fic seem more natural, and I was  honestly transported to a whole new world when reading this fic, thank you so much for writing an amazing fic like this. 

Christmas lights // @peakyposts

This fic fits Finn’s personality, he has his boyish nature and his Shelby charm. I love Christmas and this is only the second related fic I’ve come across! I enjoy the fact that Finn still has his youthfulness, and that the relationship seems so healthy. Thank you for the beautiful fic.

Finn Shelby getting into a fight to protect the reader, oh my. This fic matches his youthfulness, and fits my idea of him having a fiery temper just like Arthur, I will be shocked if something like this isn’t introduced into Peaky Blinders next season, thank you for something so sweet, that fits Finn.

It’s something I wouldn’t necessarily re-read, but just the audacity it took for her to write this is really impressive.

Favourite fluff The Higher Education of Brienne of Tarth and Drunken Shenanigans with Jaime and Brienne by BrienneofThrace. Anything by BrienneofThrace to be honest. She does the purest J/B. Also, Nothing That Is So, Is So by RoseHeart, and i get to be the other half of you + The 'Kiss Me' Series by sameboots.

Favourite Jaime line Yooooooo that part in Laying Siege by astolat when Jaime just launches into his wedding proposal: “I swear to you before these witnesses that I will protect Sansa Stark with my life, beside you. I will never take the field against her. I will take your name and your crest and your house as my own—”... I can feel myself being Brienne going WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK

Favourite Brienne line Yeah yeah here I go picking Gwen77 again. The very last lines of all her fics always slay me, but this is the only line I can quote verbatim, from Diplomacy: “Trapped, he had said, worry in his voice. Ruined. She had never felt so free.”

Favourite general line or excerpt I love the way Gwen77 commits to the motif of walls in Ice. I freaked out about it here. And then after all that talk about Brienne building up her walls she just HITS US WITH THIS FINAL LINE:

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but at this point in the show it feels like: 1.) Pyrrha has been fridged. Her death and character is only in relation to Jaune now and how he, and only he, feels about it. Especially since they keep bringing it up only for his character development. And 2.) Male characters are 'The Devil' the second they breathe in a way that the fandom or characters don't like. Female characters never get chastised or scolded, whereas the males are always 'the problem.'

I’d hesitate to use the term “fridged” just because that implies a lack of development and respect that I don’t think applies to Pyrrha overall, but I do find it quite frustrating that Jaune is the sole bearer of this grief. Doesn’t help that it draws from a number of other annoyances of mine, specifically that he gets so much attention overall and the implication that romance trumps every other type of relationship. Jaune must be more impacted by Pyrrha’s death than her other teammates and friends because he kissed her. Whereas the larger implications of watching RWBYJNR in action is that they’re all incredibly close and losing one should impact the whole group. With the exception of Ruby’s talk with Oscar and Nora and Ren getting tacked onto Jaune’s grief at the statue, we really haven’t seen that. 

And yeah. RWBY is rather fascinating to me because it’s usually the reverse: the male heroes are uwu cinnamon roll babies who can do no wrong whereas if a woman makes a single mistake she’s cancelled forever. I’ve spoken before about who the story encourages us to identify with, general misogyny, etc. but in RWBY’s case I think other minority identities play a part. Meaning, it’s not all male characters who are ‘The Devil.’ Jaune is beloved by a huge portion of the fandom, as well as by our writers. It thus strikes me that he is likewise a very ‘safe’ character. He’s a white guy coming from a prestigious family. His heterosexuality is established very early on. Any deviation from accepted social norms is treated as a joke (him wearing a dress at the dance). He’s literally the Nice Guy who learns to treat women with basic decency and is applauded for it. 

Then you have someone like Ozpin. Also presented as privileged and distinguished, but who otherwise doesn’t fit into the mold of what a man is “supposed” to be. He’s rather androgynous. He doesn’t want to fight (compare him to Ironwood with his “manly” insistence on striking first). He’s queer coded in many ways, careful (“cowardly”), literally ends up in the body of a child, is revealed to have been many races throughout his lifetime, and is a survivor of domestic abuse at the hands of a woman. 

Yes, we identify with the RWBY gang. Combine that with the pro-protagonist writing and you get a fandom who insists that these women can do no wrong. When pitted against the men in the story they tend to take precedence. However, I’m not sure I’d say that all men on the show are equally presented as “problematic.” Jaune with his boy-next-door looks and adherence to most aspects of traditional masculinity is constantly defended. Whether he’s lying about his transcripts or shoving Oscar into a wall, his bad behavior is shrugged off. Canonically in the form of quick forgiveness or Yang’s “Will he be all right?” as well as in most of the fandom. In addition, Jaune’s grief functions as an endless excuse. He lost Pyrrha and thus, supposedly, we should overlook anything problematic that stems out of that. Meanwhile, Ozpin with his various levels of queerness isn’t afforded the same luxury by the story or the fandom. When he makes mistakes he’s crucified for them endlessly. The grief of a thousand lifetimes is suddenly no longer an excuse. To me, the contrast speaks more to being the right kind of man as opposed to men in general. The classic hero with sword, shield, and Pyrrha in his arms is defendable. The passive strategist on his knees after reliving being killed by his wife... not so much.

Okay I won’t go getting all over someone else’s blog further about this but I did some checking and this viewpoint about “performing Dean” considered to be demeaning or reductive about Dean is a repeat view some latched onto. They have a right to see it that way. They think that Dean’s macho posturing is the real Dean and people seeing through the act and recognizing it as the facade is an insult to Dean.

I...find this reductive.

It also completely discards a ton of context. It discards how Dean was raised. It discards the role toxic masculinity plays and how men are taught that’s how they have to be.

Dean’s badassery and his softness co-exist and both are authentic. The strength, the hunting ability, the determination, the bravery, the courage. That is what I mean by “badass.” 

Dean’s macho posturing is not badass. His macho posturing is a facade. His moments of reaching for toxic masculinity as a shield is not the real full picture and what people applaud is how Dean reaches for the macho posturing who reverts to toxic masculinity and then discards it. It’s been an arc since 1x01. Maybe I’m misreading these posts but it looks to me like some really want “this is too girly for me” Dean to be acceptable and it’s not going to be. First of all, because that facade is always going to break. Dean himself doesn’t accept it, he tried to put it in place to keep up this persona he’s built for himself, but it never sticks and the Dean beneath emerges every single time. Second of all because it’s just not going to happen that everyone is going to go “oh look toxic masculinity and absurd macho posturing again hooray!!!” 

Stop treating it like this is an insult to Dean. You say you want people to accept the whole Dean flaws and all? Then accept that the macho posturing is toxic masculinity. Accept Dean’s flaws. Stop trying to idealize it and make it out like this is healthy and good for him. It’s not.

There has been a lot of character growth for Dean. Applauding his lessening use of certain facades and macho posturing isn’t Dean hate, it isn’t demeaning, it isn’t throwing out any layers of Dean. It’s celebrating all the layers. The fascinating dichotomy of the facade vs the whole Dean.

Stop mixing this up with “his badassery” please or acting like it’s an attack on his badassery to point out macho posturing for what it is.

Also there’s two kinds of facades. There’s the “this is too girly for me” toxic masculinity, self-cultivated persona of coolness, and there’s the walls of defenses where Dean isolates himself emotionally. Those are two different kinds of walls.

Also here’s the twist about Dean: he thinks he needs to work the facade of cool and doesn’t see how cool he is just standing there. Dean’s actual greatest moments of cool were not the ones where he was trying to be cool.

Dean is also a geek and maybe this wasn’t planned from the get-go, but we’ve seen a very evident arc over time of Dean who used to mock all things geeky get increasingly uninhibited about owning that he’s into stuff, that he likes it, that he will geek out, that he’s watched the tv shows, and he’s a fan of stuff, that he likes cosplay and genre tv and genre movies and Star Trek.  He used to mock geeks. Mocking geeks is a classic toxic masculinity move. Calling people “nerds.” The paradox of geekiness societally is that while men try to gatekeep women out, in turn, non-geeky society, societally, perceives being geeky, nerdy, being a genre fan to be weak (i.e. “feminine”). Being a sports fan is considered manly. Being into science fiction or other genre fiction is considered weak/nerdy. Dean’s character development on embracing his own geekiness is an actual brilliant microcosm of social commentary. 

It does truly floor me that talking about Dean’s facades as facades is now considered anti-Dean. I’ve been doing spn meta since 2005 and in early SPN fandom, Dean fans loved facade discussion. A lot of effort had to be made in early SPN to point out to fandom that Dean’s posturing and Dean’s facade was not the whole Dean and it’s kind of sad we still have to point out that Dean’s walls are a facade, that the hard shell he puts up is that, just a shell, to cover the hurt and love and pain and vulnerability. Still, in S14, this has to be pointed out. But even if every single person in the fandom understood these are facades, and stopped panicking and knee jerking and judging him whenever those familiar walls go up, Dean’s facades would still be an endlessly fascinating topic to me.

Dean’s facades vs what he really feels and while he’s grown a lot in terms of just being Dean instead of constantly performing or putting up a facade, we can see how even now when he’s in crisis, when he’s scared, those walls shut down into place.

• Tycoons' self-titled debut album 'Tycoons The Album' was released on the 3rd of January, 2017, 07:00AM KST.

• JYP released two trailers for the music video a month prior to the release date, however they didn't attract too much attention as they were first advertised like regular ads that would appear on most YouTube videos, sometimes even other JYP idols' music videos to maybe draw a bit more interest, as the trailers uploaded on JYP Entertainment's YouTube channel did not do so well as expected, at first. Although this, once the album and official music video came out, people started realizing that 'Tycoons' was actually a group and began drawing in a huge crowd.

• The album focuses a lot on storytelling, through music and lyrics, telling the day-to-day life of two siblings taking over their family's money wagering, illegal weapon dealing empire within the vast Mafia and how they run operations as well as the drama that will commence throughout half of the album.

• The album starts with catchy hip hop beats and dance/house trap drops, giving a sort of Stray Kids vibe to it. As the album goes on though, the lyrics and mood start to take on a more emotional tone and meaning. Just as the mood changes, Tyke and Carmen's [the Characters] lives are changing along with it.

• A majority of the songs in the album are written by both members of Tycoons [and the music video is also partially directed by them since the CEO was curious as to how this duo plans to start off their careers after training for a good amount of time] and most of the music [in the album and the music video] was also made and produced by Tycoons themselves.

• 'Tycoons: The Album' was a success, initially selling a total of 1.7 million copies in Korea and 1.65 million internationally within the first week and a half of so. But when the album began gaining some traction, the numbers spiked to 3.18 million copies in Korea and over 4.19 million copies internationally by early February.

1. MAFIA - ⏱ 4:05 - Title track

'MAFIA' is the title track of the album as well as the first track in the lineup of Tycoons' debut album. It is also the only song in the album that got a whole music video dedicated to it. Being that the album was written and co-produced by Tycoons themselves, they wanted this album to tell a story; to be the first chapter of their characters' stories and build up on their development as they evolve and grow in the music industry. They promoted the album, the title track and it's B-side heavily, going on several interviews, TV and music shows for 3 weeks straight, all at once [though Tycoons themselves quote en quote 'didn't mind the busy schedule, as they have been preparing all their trainee lives for this moment', courtesy of Carmen].

'MAFIA' is a song about the 'dangers' of the Mafia world and how they rose to the top with sheer resilience and smarts, as well as available weaponry and other form of utility such as soldiers. Tyke and Carmen the characters describe a glimpse in their life in a line taken from Carmen's rap verse:

'in this dangerous place

where Alphas roam wild

one shot dead in the streets

echoing cries for miles and miles

with blood dripping on their face

as they lie cold there like a stone

truly a beautiful chaos

this is home; how we live our lives'

The song is hits hard with a hip hop style dance beat, an interesting use of common synths, a fresh twist on melodies that are often used, heard and reused, and carries an intense tone throughout the whole song. Added to that the ranging high and low notes that Tyke hits, especially in the bridge, and Carmen's consistent deep growls in the rap verses. Said factors when merged create this harmonious yet unpredictable title track that would be considered 'perfect to set the tone', as Tyke puts it. Fans often compare this song to the style of Stray Kids' and BAP's music, and although some people say that this is the 'least JYP' JYP song ever according to some fans, Tycoons have confessed to have let the company add their flair to this song, so it's safe to say that it was an even game when it came to producing.

There were also special effects to the song to amp up it's chilling vibe. For example, throughout the song, there would be gunshot fire sounds inserted, as expected from a group with a dark concept, however fans pointed out that as the song reached it's climax, the shot sounds start condescending to the point where it even tricks some people into believing that there was an actual gun fired next to them, and therefore have them either scared or even more in love with the song. This effect however was not the only sound [or even visual] effect inserted into the track; in the official music video, Tycoons are shown to present almost everything you'd want in a perfect music video; great clothing choices, beautiful sets and decor, a nice harmony of dark and bright colors throughout, flattering camera angles and lighting, makeup and filters galore, only to then show the Characters' reality, showing various ruined sets littered with blood, dead bodies, empty bullet cannisters and bloody knives on the floors, yelps of pain, stab sounds and the final groans after getting shot, make the atmosphere even more spine chilling.

Critics praised this title track for it's unique concept, style and visuals, however they added that there could've been a more clear trigger warning before the MV starts, as it could easily trigger a younger audience. So to appease them, the company temporarily took the video down to add an extra 10 second trigger warning clip accompanied with a subtle rain sound effect that goes well with the beginning of the MV where Tyke and Carmen are seen walking through the gloom streets while it's raining.

2. 우리는 (We Are) - ⏱ 3:46 - B-side

'우리는' or 'We Are' in English is the next song in the tracklist as well as the album's B-side track. 우리는 Is mostly written by Tyke, therefore it's fairly vocal heavy for the most part, however he does give his sister Carmen the bridge and the last verse of the song to rap, but the rest is Tyke. It's a more story telling song that has a much softer, but more mysterious vibe to it. This song doubles as a deeper look into Tycoons' Characters' backstory as well as a song that shows off Tyke's light and clear contratenor voice with the occasional sassy run as well as stable vibratos and falsettos.

The song carries a nostalgic feeling, as if you've heard this song before some other place or time in your life, but not exactly in the way one'd originally think. It has a sad-ish tone, despite having happy nostalgia inducing guitar, piano, a variety of classical instruments, hip-hoppy snare and slightly lighter trap drops, that is meant to symbolize Tycoons' not-so-happy childhood that is the consequence of their family joining the Mafia.

Overall, the song has a fairly light hearted tune with variety and a nicer, clearer beat compared to it's title track, however if you look at the lyrics and analyze them, they hold a much darker meaning:

'you can't run

The unsettlingness of the lyrics combined with the strategic classical orchestration make for a song that's meant to feel like, quote en quote 'a false security blanket that shields you from the actual good reality, or even a blindfold that makes you see everything in life with a different filter', courtesy of Tyke.

This song isn't exactly a favorite of the people, therefore dubbing it 'under appreciated' or 'underrated' by Capos, however critics applaud this song as much as it's title track for the same factors, but they have less critiques for this song as there wasn't any music video, however for some critics, the sense of false security and lack of straightforwardness was not exactly their cup of tea.

3. Hands Up - ⏱ 3:25 - Inizio

The third track in the album is titled 'Hands Up' and is the introduction to Carmen's [the character] personality and role in her and her brother's business. This track is mostly written by Carmen and contains mostly rap verses, with Tyke included briefly in the chorus, the bridge and as backing vocals to go with Carmen's raps. 'Hands Up' is has traces of inspiration from hip-hop songs, with it's more uppity, 'in your face' beats.

The story, or message, this song is trying to convey is to never disrespect those whom have helped you and built you up and explain the diligence and perseverance you are going to need in order to survive in the Mafia industry, and that once you think you got there, that means you still have ways to go, or to put it in Carmen's words; 'Don't get too comfortable, life can take 10 steps ahead of you just like that.'

The bold beats and sassy lyrics can be quite jarring to some, but the song overall is very well received by Capos and music critics alike. Although a minority of Capos did make an argument about 'Hands Up' being a better B-side track for 'Tycoons the Album' than '우리는', however this dispute is easily dismissed by favor over the idea of "'우리는' and 'Hands Up' being equally great overall, but '우리는' is a B-side for a reason that we don't know yet/we will have to speculate more on to know why", given by K-pop commentary channels such as KPOP Junkee and Korea Scouter TV.

The topic of respect and being respectful is heavily mentioned in the song and due to this, some Capos said that 'it almost seemed like they were demanding respect' and this ideology was shared around with a portion of the fandom, however Tycoons responded to this issue by saying that they only wanted to portray their characters, not the actual people themselves.

4. GSW - ⏱ 3:02 - Continuazione

'GSW', short for 'Gun shot wound' is the next song in the tracklist and another hip hop dance song in the whole album. 'GSW' is co-written by Tycoons and this song carries a more JYP style of music for the group, but with that said, the JYP 'signature style' was definitely beneficial for Tycoons' versatility in music styles. What makes this track different is the lack of lyrics and the main focus on the dance aspect that goes with the track.

The music was intense like the title track and had a variety of different musical tones incorporated, like at some points of the song there could be a more deep atmosphere and in others it could be softer, or faster, or sad. Though the song may be lacking in lyrics, it compensates for a complicated, but amazing choreography. The only verses in the song are the first pre-chorus, chorus and bridge, and these verses are fairly brief;

'just when you think there's a settled score

the battle has just reborn

comes swift like an avalanche

come to steal what you just got back

at your back like a loaded gun

and the night has just begun

steady now breathe, breathe'

This song took the longest to practice in terms of dance. According to Tyke, he stated that they've had to practice this dance longer than any of the other song's dances combined. The choreography is much harder and more technically challenging, and it also involves the usage of various props as well as stage actors to accompany Tycoons in their action sequences throughout the dance. The CEO even opted to postpone the actual date of their debut because of how challenging this dance was, as he had doubts that the group could actually meet the deadline. But hard work and dedication pulled through and the duo clearly succeeded through all the hours of work.

5. Heir - ⏱ 4:45 - Conflitto

The song 'Heir' is sort of like the climax of the album. This is when the tone of the song shifts to a more calmer, simpler tunes and faster timing with more room to add story telling lyrics and catchy raps. Tyke and Carmen worked on this song together and therefore rapping-to-singing ratio is pretty equal, and their inspiration for this album can really be sensed here, or at least that's what they think anyway. At the beginning, this song sounds quite to 'MAFIA' because of how Tycoons' characters are connected to the person next in line to their 'throne' but they found out something was wrong and they go searching for her. Shown briefly in the music video, this 'heir' is a baby, almost a toddler, who's sleeping in a crib inside a dark nursery but the scene is shown to flicker to a clip of people in full black outfits taking them away, resembling a kidnapping.

In the music video for 'MAFIA' we briefly get video shots of Carmen turning around to face the camera angle with a distraught expression before running towards a hallway as if rushing to get something, and Capos think that this is Carmen running to save her 'heir.' Tycoons soon confirm the rumors surrounding this mysterious heir however didn't drop every detail, but did mention said heir's name; Chloe.

The song itself is intense just like it's title track, but with added drama and theatrics by an orchestral pre-chorus and followed by another dirty dubstep/trap drop and bridge. The classic parts meant to symbolize going back to the classics, where king and queen take care of their heirs as they rule their kingdom, but by the end of the song the orchestra melody doesn't complete itself and loop, instead for the last 5 seconds of the song, it's heard glitching and skipping certain beats before eventually quieting down.

This strategic, but harmonious symphony of classical and trap genres seems to be the critics' favorite and it definitely made sense for Capos to enjoy it just as much. However some added that the drop sounded too much like 'MAFIA' and when put side by side, they almost have the exact same notes. Tycoons took to answer this predicament right away, explaining that, though taking care of children aren't the characters, Tyke or Carmen's, front suit, their heir still plays a role in their journey to the top, by being more careful, thought out and responsive to anything, and eventually the crowd died down.

6. 만족하니? (Are You Satisfied?) - ⏱ 4:30 - Calore de momento

'만족하니?' or 'Are You Satisfied?' in English is the 6th song in the tracklist and right off the bat is a rap-heavy trap style song, going back to harsh, dirty beats and Carmen's growly voice. This song is meant to represent the heat of the moment and a continuation of the previous song 'Heir', after they realize that the next generation of their 'royal family' was taken from them. Carmen wrote this song feeling her own anger to the horrible people present in her life as a child, and after some fine tuning from Tyke so it doesn't sound too much like a diss track [though according to some fans, it still does], the lyrics to the song can really convey how angry and angry [and rather sadistic] their characters were over loosing their 'heir':

'you think this is fun?

that this is all just a game?

well I'll tell you this now, you pricks

that you'll regret this mess you made (yuh)

you've dug yourself deep in a hole

where we will throw you a rope

and drag your body to your neighborhood

and cut you open wide!

does that sound good?

are you satisfied now?'

The rather horrifying lyrics of this song and the glitchy sound effects added makes it one of the least favorite songs in the album to fans, along with 'Losing It', but as the internet is known for divided opinions and constant fighting over the slightest things, Capos were no different. One side said that this song was okay and 'the others who can't stand the lyrics are actual babies', quoted from one Capo, and 'the other' side of the fandom just did not appreciate the gory lyrics and 'would just listen to the album without this song overall', quoted from another Capo.

Critics also agreed that this track and 'Losing It' in particular could've been less gory, however they did understand why Tycoons wanted to make it so that it would sound sadistic and scary and all that, even if it was their least favorite song concept. Tyke quickly defended himself and his sister by stating that they wanted the album to be raw and true to their characters' personalities and the storyline, and at the end of the day it was just some lyrics in a song that shouldn't be taken too seriously. Some people saw this as Tycoons' over-involvement with their fanbase and turned them away from the group but a couple of them have since returned to being a Capo after realizing that the reason why Tycoons called them their 'Capos' is because of their wish to be engaging with their fandom and that they were forgetful to the meaning of the name in the first place.

7. Losing It - ⏱ 2:04 - Climax

'Losing It' is the very next song and yet again, a continuation of the previous song '만족하니?' but unlike the last one, 'Losing It' is much calmer but at the same time, was just sinister and a little vocal heavy. The song was one of the quieter songs in the album but kept that deep and mysterious aspect about it, which made fans appreciate this track more than the previous one. In this song, Tyke really showed that he can rock to a quicker paced song as well as a slower one, as 'Losing It's melody incorporated a few transitions from a fast paced beat to a slower beat.

The electro synths and more vocally challenging melody and high notes made this song one of the hardest songs to sing in the album, if not the hardest song to sing in the album. It was more of a ballad with the occasional trap build up leading to a softer EDM drop as per usual. The song's varying speeds also made it a challenge to sing as you first go up high, then low, then mid-range before climbing back up again and several different variations of this pattern were incorporated so no verse sounded the same, nor did it have the same lyrics. Speaking of, the lyrics to the song describe the disappointment and shame the characters had to go through when they found out their family member had been kidnapped and it includes a few hints pointing towards Tyke's depression really helping out during this song [even though it was actually written by Carmen since Tyke was depressed when the song was written, so his low mood helped this song convey the sadness and frustration properly]

8. Fire With Fire - ⏱ 2:50 - Vendetta

'Fire With Fire' is the finale of the album, and though it may be only less than 3 minutes, the song holds a deep passionate beat and had probably the most memorable ending drops throughout the whole album. Mirroring 'GSW', 'Fire With Fire' was dance dominated with a few lyrics, but due to its short length, the choreography was more complicated and faster paced, 'ending with a bang' as Tyke would say. And though the choreography wasn't as complicated as 'GSW', and did not need any props, it was definitely just as tiring, according to Carmen.

Capos compare the drop to that of Stray Kids' 'Miroh' for it's electro house instruments but broken down, it doesn't sound too similar, though people managed to merge the two songs together to create a song that even Tycoons listen to and they gave the person that made the first remix a very well deserved shout-out.

9. Outro: The End - ⏱ 1:14 - La fine (per ora)

I know it took me a little longer to update and I apologize but my personal life has been crazy these past days, hopefully I’ll be able to update weekly from now on so YAY!

This chapter was kind of hard to write because there was a lot of emotion involved and well, it was just hard but I really liked the result so I hope you’ll like it too.

Anna’s had a couple of really memorable nights in her life, each one for a completely different reason but all equally important.

Most likely the first she remembers, her first school play when she was only 7 years old and her parents seated in the crowd applauding like crazy as their little daughter understood for the first time what it meant to have passion about something. It was the first time Anna smiled so much that her cheeks burned for a while later, that’s when she decided acting was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life, without even knowing it’s an actual job, and a very hard one. That night her parents gave her a bouquet of lilies and a gold charm bracelet, that came with a caduceus symbol to represent her father’s part since medicine was his passion and one with a shell to represent her mother’s part because she was crazily in love with the ocean and a huge heart in the middle.

“This heart represents yours, so don’t ever forget how big your heart is and how goodness should always be present in your life” were the exact words her mother told her and until today sometimes Anna clings to the bracelet and recites the words in her mind, remembering the grin on Ian and Eleanor faces when they gave it to her. They hoped to be around for a long time, time enough to see her fill the bracelet with dreams and accomplishments, but again, she could only hope.

Then there was the most horrible night of her life, as she was eating ice cream before dinner because her grandma couldn’t resist her pretty face of an adorable nine years old Anna Grey, the big round cheeks and the already intense grey eyes. She was about to finish the chocolate part when grandma entered the kitchen, tears welling down her eyes and falling quickly as she looked at her granddaughter, the newest orphan in town. It was the night she found out her parents died in a car accident, the night her whole world fell apart. Athena stayed awake most of the night, holding her granddaughter while she cried silently and in the morning she told Anna they were all each other had from now on. It was the same night that little Anna Grey understood what loneliness meant, the first time the weight of living passed on her still young shoulders.

The night she moved to New York was a night after Athena passed way, she was only fifthteen and didn’t want to be taken by the social services, it was pouring rain and so cold she almost froze to death sitting in the last row at one of the dirtiest theaters in town but it was the only place she could break in without being caught. It was the beginning of her beautiful journey in big city of New York, and full of dreams, or at least that’s what she thought back there. Today she saw the whole thing as the last day she stood by and let everything just happen to her, after that she learned that you gotta take the reins of your life before it’s too late. But it wasn’t until the next memorable night of her life that she actually took the reins, the most important night of her life until now.

New York is one of the biggest and most populated cities in the world, with the amount of bars almost as high as the people and yet Maxwell and Drake choose exactly her bar to celebrate Liam’s bachelor party. It was a hot and busy night, Anna was counting the minutes until she could get home to her comfy and lonely bed, well actually she wasn’t looking forward that much. Times were rough for her with the actress future seeming every day further away from her, the weight of having nobody to lay on besides herself and with her annoying boss reducing her pay she was broke too. That’s why when Daniel asked her to take care of the bachelor party that had just arrived she said yes, having nothing better to do and hoping the tips would be good, not even in her dreams wandering she would be meeting the love of her life. But most importantly, this was the night that changed everything.

Anna’s had a few really memorable nights in her life but none of them could compare to tonight.

She knew that the minute Liam came out of the shadows, a tiny smile hiding in his expression as he steps closer to her.

“Was that Olivia?”

“Yes.”

“Did she bother you?”

“No. Not at all, she told me something I’ve been needing to know for a long time.”

“Oh.”

Liam looks truly surprised and shrugs at the subject before giving it too much thought, because he has something more important do deal with right now.

“I’m glad you’re here Liam, I needed to talk to you alone.”

“Then why don’t we go to the maze? It’s a more… private place to talk.”

He nods in the direction of a few drunken nobles who stumble at the palace garden door, only a few feet from them. That makes Anna agree, placing her hand on his arm and starting to plan a speech in her head while they walk.

“But first…”

Liam stands in front of her and touches her nose with his hand, causing Anna to chuckle and blush in an adorable way as he holds her face with his hands. Their eyes meet and with her still smiling they share a gentle but passionate kiss.

“You look cute when you blush.”

“Well, you would know since you’re the person that makes me blush the most. Like in the entire wide world.”

Anna knew she was dodging the subject, letting herself get loose in the caring way Liam treats her and how good it feels to have someone who truly loves you. Her guilty thoughts are interrupted by his voice.

“Would you mind if I speak first?”

“No. Not at all.”

‘One hour you’re gonna have to face him, but maybe later tonight?’ The American hoped as the classic music coming from the ball slowly started to get lower and lower.

The night was chilly and she could feel herself growing colder, hints getting herself closer to his body that emanates heat. Before Liam can offer her his blazer they arrive inside the maze and a shiver runs all over her body, knocking the wind from beneath her.

Anna always thought the maze was a special and beautiful place, very meaningful to both of them but tonight it looks just breathtaking. There are fairy lights everywhere, creating a romantic and cozy atmosphere, a trail of red roses traces the path to the swing, where a huge bouquet awaits with roses matching the maze’s. Liam grins proudly at her side while they walk towards the swing, her hands touching the lights around the bushes and a huge smile forming on her lips.

“This… is…”

There aren’t words to describe her surprise as she stares at the beautiful man standing in front of her, handing her the bouquet.

“I meant to do this in New York, at our spot near the Statue of Liberty, where it all started, however with my father’s condition and our rushed back here I thought it was better to wait. To do it in the right way.”

“Liam it looks beautiful. Reminds me of…”

“The Coronation.”

She nods smelling the flowers and Liam reaches for her hand, feeling overwhelmed by the beautiful woman he’s about to propose to.

“That night didn’t go as planned and I promised there would be another night where I could make everything right again. I was going to propose to you that night, in front of the entire court. Not doing so will remain the deepest regret of my life. Still, perhaps it’s destiny that it happened this way because tonight’s perfect, just you and me.”

Liam’s ocean blue eyes are burning onto her grey ones as Anna’s mind wanders to the memories of Coronation, the night everything went down for the first time. She fights the images in her head, from the first time she kissed Drake and the first time he wore a suit to impress her, taking her breath away with the glimpse of his smile until the moment he tried to protect her from the guards. She’s not supposed to be thinking about Drake right now so she closes her eyes for a second and focuses on the memories of Liam’s promises that night, the way he looked at her and how she felt utterly happy that someone cared about her again. How their connection made her heart feel warm and safe again, that she’d finally have somebody who wouldn’t leave her. That night she would have said yes to him, but tonight she’s not that sure.

“Well, not exactly just you and me.”

There’s a sneaky and playful smile on his lips as he whistles, pats on his leg and calls Dude who comes running from a near bush in his adorable little suit. She notices there’s something bigger than his normal dog collar, Anna’s still stunt with the surprise.

“I hope you don’t mind my borrowing him tonight. He looks too good in his suit to pass it. Don’t you Dude?”

“What’s he here for?”

“I’ll see in a minute.”

“Anna, you’ve opened my eyes… It has been a true honor to witness your strength in the face of every challenge you have overcome. It’s a strength which lends me courage. I know that I will be a better man for having you by my side. All I want in this world is to dedicate my life to being the best man and king that I can be… for you.”

The king sinks to one knee, taking the little box that hangs from Dude’s collar and presenting it to Anna.

“Duchess Anna Grey, queen of my heart, I have yearned to say these four words for a very, very long time…”

“Liam.”

Both of their hearts are beating so fast it seems like it might come out of their bodies, emotion taking control of every single nerve inside them but for completely different reasons.

Liam opens the box with the biggest and brightest smile he’s ever had, exposing a ring as bright and beautiful as his own smile. The words that waited so long finally coming out of his mouth and Liam knows they’re probably the most right thing he will ever say in his life.

“Will you marry me?”

The answer makes time stop for Anna, her head being crashed with memories of those few memorable nights and the many more there’s to come, it’s time to decide with who she wants to spend it. She thinks about how this decision will affect every single relationship she has, trying to wrap her mind around the fact that this sets not only her future but Liam’s, Drake’s, House Beaumont's and even Cordonia’s.

And her decision is taken by that same thought, because as soon as his name appears in her mind, it’s like she can feel him here again and all those sentiments floating around her and as usual, he doesn’t leave even when she desperately wants him to. Anna finally sees that there was never a decision to be made, they’re completely in love with each other and as much ash they fight against it, it’s the simple and plain truth.

Drake.

“I can’t marry you. I’m in love with someone else.”

Liam stands up again and Anna puts the bouquet back in its place over the swing, her grey irises cautiously looking for his blue warmth but finding and ice cold instead. Tears start to build in both of their eyes as they hold each other’s gaze.

“Who?”

It’s like there’s a knife entering his heart, the worst part being that he knew something was going on between her and his best friend however Liam was fool enough to believe in the end she would choose him.

“Drake.”

The name is almost a whisper that they both say, a taunted and sour taste to Liam’s mouth since there’s a hint of love for him on her sweet tone. He can see how sorry she is, Anna’s face is twisted in a pain expression that makes his anger dissipate just a little bit.

“You knew?”

Liam inhales deeply, focusing his gaze on one of the sparkly lights behind her because to him face those grey big eyes would be to much. Her question makes him regret saying anything, the fear of admitting how he ignored their feelings and blindly choose to believe on her sentiment for him prevent him from answering right away but Anna is waiting anxiously.

She knows how hurt he must be so she lets him take his time, simply stands there with her hands fold and the eyes staring at the blankness of the night. Hoping the hard part of the night is over and in just a few hours she will realize just how misplaced that hope was. Liam sits on the swing and gives space so that she’ll sit by his side, both without the courage to look anywhere but their own feet.

“I didn’t knew. I mean, I saw the long looks and the way you both seemed happier around each other. You’re a pretty good actress so you made a really good job hiding your feelings but Drake, not so much. Especially for someone who has known him his whole life.”

At the mention of him she turns to him, a big and heavy question forming inside of her head as she calculates either to ask it or not.

‘Hell, I’ve already broken his heart by saying no, how can one question make it worse?’ is the thought followed by her shaken voice in a:

“Then why did you propose?”

“Because I thought in the end, you’d choose me.”

Finally she looks up, staring at his lowered head and feeling the pain in his words and taking a deep sigh before caressing Liam’s arm. The words that leave her mouth are so true, so full of sentiment that Anna plans to keep hidden for a long time but that somehow found their way out.

“Who I love was never a choice.”

It’s time for Liam to look up, the blue-green-ish irises filled with tears that he planned to hide from her because he knows she’s telling the truth however he too sees her when she answers his next question.

“But lying to me was, so it’s my turn to ask, why?”

The moment she sees his tears, her own start forming and she understands just how much her past made her who she is now. Her scars appear from beneath the surface and she feels everything again so intensely.

“Because of this…”

Anna picks up the hem of her dress and lifts it up enough for him to see a charm bracelet wrapped around her ankle, with four gold charms hanging over and immediately he recognizes it. It’s the bracelet she always has on her wrist, he also remembers that she never mentioned anything about the jewelry.

“You always use it in your wrist.”

“Yeah, Olivia didn’t approved with the outfit so I had to hide it under the dress.”

“I’m still not sure how that explains your lying.”

“My parents got me this when I was seven, after my first school play. The caduceus symbol represents my father, since medicine was his passion and the shell represents my mother, considering how much she loved the sea and it reminded her of the Greek Islands where her parents met. And the big heart in the middle, that’s my symbol, it’s supposed to express my biggest feature. They told me that night that this bracelet meant hope, that it was supposed to be filled with dreams and important things to me, it’s meant to make me embrace the past and believe in the future.”

Tears leaver her eyes and the last words are no more than whispers, memories echoing in her mind by the mention of Ian and Eleanor. Liam cleans them with his thumb and waits for her to continue.

“They died two years later in a car accident. Leaving me alone with only my grandma Athena, who took me into her home and raised me until I was fifteen. My father’s family was small and by the time I was born, he had already lost most of them and had only me and mom. My mom’s family, or better saying, my grandma Athena’s family lived in Greece where she was born but expelled from because she got pregnant before the wedding. So when Athena died I was fifteen and completely alone, I ran from my hometown Chicago and got shelter at New York so that the social service wouldn’t find me and send me to a foster family. The owl represents my grandma Athena since the it’s the symbol of the great goddess, it was the first thing I bought when I arrived in New York.”

“I had no idea that you’ve had such a difficult childhood.”

“I don’t usually talk about this with anybody.”

“Why?”

“Because I had to keep that hidden for a long time, until I was eighteen nobody could know that I was totally alone. I guess I got used to hiding it after because it just hurts too damn much, so it’s not something I bring up in a date with the King of Cordonia.”

She lets out a smirk and holds his hand, not so sure if she’ll be able to fully express her feelings without breaking down in sobs and tears. But she has to try, she owes him to at least try.

“The thing is Liam… I lied to you because my whole life I’ve been alone, felt so lonely that sometimes it was hard to even breath, I had nobody on my corner outside from the ghosts of my family. So I hold on to anything that means love and when I came here, there was so many amazing people who seemed to care for me and I was so scared that if I hurted any of you, you would leave me. And I couldn’t be alone anymore. But I guess I hurt you even more by lying, I’m so sorry.”

His gaze softens when he looks at her again, the tears rolling down her face in silent and the grip on his hand becoming stronger. Anna can’t control the emotion inside herself, talking about the past and her parents, revealing to him how vulnerable she actually is makes her wounds too exposed to cover.

Liam catches both of her hands on his and turns to her, looking into her eyes to assure her of how sure he’s at the next words.

“I’ll never leave you. No matter what happens. And here,” he gestures to their surroundings before getting back to her eyes again.“You’ll never be alone.”

SF9 BOI BIOS

This is originally written for @youngjbambisonyounggyomark but really can be for anyone that wants to know more about SF9, a seriously underrated VERY TALENTED and fun group of boys. First things first! ABOUT THE GROUP!

SF9 stands for “Sensational Feeling 9″ cause there are 9 and they make you feel SENSATIONAL! The fan name is “Fantasy” (which is cute, I get to say I’m a fantasy huehuehue). They’re considered a dance group (you’ll see why when you watch some dance practice videos BOY HOWDY will you) and they debuted in October of 2016.

Now? MEET THE MEMBERS!

YOUNGBIN

Listen I’m not just starting with him cause he’s my bias, I’m starting with him cause he’s the leader. I’ll be honest, when I first started looking up pics of them to learn who they were I didn’t find him the most attractive and then as I started watching more and more videos and vlives I came to realize this hecker had bias wrecked me. I believe the term is Bolmae and he bolmaed the heck out of my life. He is SO good and sweet and funny and he loves his boys so much he’s such a good leader, but the kind of leader that is really laid back. Youngbin is aggressively noncompetitive most of the time. Like he works so hard but when it comes to goofing off he doesn’t really care if he loses at like arm wrestling or something. He does this lil closed eye smile that melts my soul, and he had a minty mullet for their Mamma Mia comeback that also went lavender, silver and blonde WOW so good.He’s in the rapline but an incredible dancer. He says the best feature about him is his hands and they are very good hands. Some people call him stupid but he’s NOT he’s actually pretty smart but he is very TRUSTING and gullible. He takes things at face value and has been tricked easily but that doesn’t make him dumb, if anything it just shows what a sweetie he is.

INSEONG

Now moving on to the oldest, meet Inseong! He speaks English pretty well as he did study in London for about a year. He is fluent but sometimes when he’s put on the spot he’ll forget words and it’s suuuper cute cause he gets so embarrassed. He has dimples that could knock you out, but despite this sweet face don’t be fooled, he’s about six feet tall (most of the boys are at least 5′10″ actually!). The other members consider him the smartest which makes sense cause he’s from a well off family who made sure he had access to a great education. He definitely can come across as a little spoiled but it’s actually really endearing cause it’s really just him putting on an act about getting sulky or offended. The entire hyung line act like goobs together and are the most delightful obnoxious trio. Inseong also has a thing with chairs, he’s either tripping on them, falling out of them or carrying them around which seems random but what some videos and you’ll see what I mean.

JAEYOON

Gaw this group is FULL OF VISUALS and Jaeyoon is leading the pack. More dimples and a smile that would melt a glacier. The other members consider him the manliest of all of them and I think everyone can acknowledge he got the best booty of all (I’ve got more pics, I can share). He seems like a pretty laid back guy and doesn’t get shaken easily but actually he IS SO SCARED of roller coasters and haunted houses n stuff it’s precious. One time in a haunted house he got so spooked he accidentally begged the ghosts not to hurt them cause they’re FNC’s newest girl group - which isn’t far off cause Jaeyoon is excellent with girl group dances! As part of the hyungline that I mentioned before this boyo is hella prankster and is always being silly and loud. 

DAWON

This hecker was my original bias before Youngbin wrecked me away. I have a soft spot for clowns and Dawon goes above and beyond. He’s not afraid to pull faces and he’s a great speaker often taking the role of “MC” since he’s so engaging and fun. BUT the thing that really won me over is that for the Mamma Mia comeback he had locs and fans were pretty upset about it. At first he wouldn’t budge because he thought that fans didn’t like the look cause they thought it was ugly and he didn’t want to cave for such a superficial reason (Had that been the case I applaud the mentality!!). However, a fan spoke to him at a meet and told him about cultural appropriation and THIS GUY. LOOKED IT UP. AND CHANGED. HIS HAIR. Like that is so unusual for people to do let alone celebrities and I’m STILL impressed what a rad dude forreal. Despite seeming like a total goofball he can actually be pretty chic, and he pretty much does whatever he wants. That includes showing off tattoos while parading around shirtless, and sharing the wifi password for the FNC building while on vlive so fans without enough data can stream!

ZUHO

You know that “looks like a sinnamon roll, actually a cinnamon roll” thing? No one fits that better than Zuho. There’s Fantasy’s that believe him to be a big tough hardass cause he’s tall and has a deep voice (like really deep, hot damn). But they don’t come softer than this guy. He can be quiet and reserved but he has a heart of gold and frankly I would personally fight anyone who hurts his precious feelings. Whenever one of the other members is upset or sad, this lil lion baby is first to comfort them. He’s even chastised Youngbin for making Hwiyoung cry in practice by criticizing his dance too much. Another time a member lost part of their meal to a rock paper scissors game, Zuho not only refused to take any of his food but then SHARED his food and it led the others to share more as well. Legit will cry when you watch it if you have any heart. One factoid about him is one that’s brought up fairly often and it’s that he has TERRIBLE sleeping habits. Apparently he’s a big time snorer/sleep talker/sleep walker and shares a room with managers cause it’s so disruptive to the others. Zuho is also the most friendly of the group, he is always social and making friends with anyone he comes across, even Chanyeol from EXO promoted their Narcissus comeback because they’re friends! OH! He also composes music and had a song each on their Sensuous album as well as their Narcissus album! WHAT TALENT.

ROWOON

Speaking of visuals, Rowoon is CLASSIC VISUAL. Tallest in the group at 6′2″ when I first saw him I was kind of blown away, it’s kind of unreal how flawless this guy is. Because he’s so good looking he already does a lot of acting and has separate schedules from the others but when he is with them he is SO MUCH FUN??? Especially his relationship with the maknae Chani. He’s always showering him with affection and attempting skinship (Chani resists) and it’s GOOD. Rowoon does a lot of promoting for the group too, he really does love all his members. Rowoon can be the mom of the group when looking after the others. He’s the best cook apparently, and when Chani was scared of a roller coaster he made sure the maknae got to sit close to leader Youngbin (the dad). He’s not as loud and rambunctious as the hyung line for sure but still fun. He is usually very sweet and respectful in interviews and pretty straightforward in acknowledging that he is good looking which is refreshing. 

TAEYANG

Once again this guy is deceptively tall, I was super surprised when I learned that he’s almost 6′ tall. He’s also a killer visual and even better HE KNOWS IT. He knows that he’s a total babe but still manages to be SHY. He definitely has his stage personality and his offstage personality. He has KILLER vocals and even amongst a group of dancers stands out as one of the best dancers. It’s kind of unbelievable how talented and skilled he is. Taeyang is certainly the sunshine child of the group and a precious lil babe but if you aren’t careful he will knock you out with his sexy moves, especially in the Sensuous and Narcissus eras. But really he is still a baby underneath it all, to the point that he happily plays with the other maknae’s at a trampoline park with abandon, and sings alongs to kids show songs in public despite being shamed by the actual makenae Chani.

HWIYOUNG

This boy. This good and pure child. This sweet little (tall, again) angel baby. This lovely, darling, etc etc. The trampoline park I mentioned earlier? His idea. ((I SAID THIS DURING MAMMA MIA ERA:He still has a youthful appearance but I have no doubt he’s gonna be one of those guys that very suddenly grows OUT and into a stud)) TIME FOR THE UPDATE? Ya this boy SHOOK THE FANDOM in Sensuous era with some long heckin hair and some killer dance moves. He SHONE as front and center and the look is so good it continues to thrive into the Narcissus era. He came in and wrecked a whooooole lotta Fantasy’s. He can be a total sweetie but he absolutely has a mischevious streak, especially when he’s with Chani. Those boys together are Trouble and can get away with MURDER. This dude has a hella deep voice and is a killer good rapper like damn. That being said he does sing on a couple tracks and is quite good at that too?

CHANI

And we finally reach the maknae, the only one in the whole group under 5′10″ (5′8.5″). Also the opposite of Zuho cause he looks like a cinnamon roll but is actually a sinnamon roll and will kill anyone who mildly inconveniences him. A classic evil maknae. He is VERY cute and VERY good at aegyo and like Taeyang is VERY aware of it but is SAAAASSSSSYYYY AF about it. He’s a total brat and it’s a blast cause the others don’t let it stop them even a little when harassing him and to be honest I think he likes it too even when this little baby is telling off his hyungs to act their age while in the same breath stealing their food. Tsundere AF. It’s never not fun having Chani around (except when he suggests a game and then proceeds to disappear while the others play cause he is TAkiNG a NaP WHAT A BABYYYYYY CUTE AH). He starred in Sky Castle which also drew a lot of attention to SF9 which is awesome!

SUGGESTED VIEWINGS!

Okay first things first if you haven’t seen Click Your Heart it’s a kdrama and it stars Rowoon, Dawon, Zuho and Chani and it’s really cute and interesting and I like it a lot. All the boys have at least bit parts in it which I didn’t realize until the second watch through and there’s not that many episodes but definitely recommend checking that out!

For sure check out their dance practice videos, I prefer a lot of them to the MV’s cause the dances are... wow. Dang. Wow. So sharp. So good. But one of my favorites is the a great funny version of O Sole Mio and I’ve watched it like twenty times and it really is what made me fall in love with Youngbin

 “sweet version” of Fanfare (second video) is rly cute and makes me feet warm and cuddly.

Voltron: Legendary Defender season 3

Live-reactions to season 3 of Voltron: I have a bottle of wine and a whole night ahead of me, so let’s do this! <3 Heavy spoilers, meta thoughts and a lot of caps lock under the cut!</p>

1. „Changing of the guard”

I am very much in love with how everyone is behaving (look at Lance and Hunk being awesome, look at the Blade of Marmora finally helping, look at Allura being a teen: yes, yes, yes!), but I am upset that only Keith is taking Shiro’s disappearance so badly. Like didn’t he have a strong relationship with Pidge…? And she is is only focused on finding Matt…? What about her father? And wasn’t Lance something like his no.1 fan…? This is like a classic example of: what the fuck hero?

Though I am happy to see Lance having friendly moments with everyone: from random alien girls, to Pidge and Hunk and Keith. Let my bby boy have all the love and friendship he deserves. No more 7th wheel bullshit please.

I’m already in love with Lotor and his Generals (the trailer nor the pictures didn’t prepare me for the affection I feel towards them) and I only hope for a sword fight between Lotor and Keith. Also, could the by like half-brothers, maybe? Or cousins? I would like that. Or maybe one of the Generals could be Keith’s mother. I just want a badass Keith-Lotor confrontation. I don’t even care who would win *cough* Lotor *cough*

Also, Lotor would make a fine Paladin. Just saying, with such speeches? Such manipulation skills? With that smile? And… Yeah. Great character there. Yep. Sorry, I will be biased.

ALSO LANCE I LOVE YOU, I KNEW YOU WERE MY FAVORITE, YES YOU ARE. That “hey, listen man” broke me. Jeremy you are such a good VA, that was awesome, my kudos to you. That whole scene was great: from the emotional aspect and how everyone looked at someone else and Lance didn’t, he was just looking ad Keith and thinking what to do and he knew it had to be him and… YES THAT WAS GREAT. LET MY BLUE BABY BE THE GLUE THAT STICKS THEM ALL TOGETHER AND HELPS HIS FRIENDS OUT AND AAAAAAH. I love Lance, okay? I loved that scene as a whole thing: I just feel it should have happened sooner? IDK.

2. “Red Paladin”

I swear to God, my first thought was: They are awesome, I am so gay for that one General, Ezor. She is exactly that batshit crazy friendly type that I’m scared of. Acxa is also great (so loyal <3) and so is Zethrid (I look at her and think of Overwatch’s Zarya). I think that I’m too confused about Narti to have an opinion on her, but I do love her fighting technique. Basically: I love them all. And that is not a good reaction, I think *sobs* Now imagine Voltron as Lotor and his 4 General Ladies. That would be badass. Not really good for the Universe, but badass.<br>

Ahem. This whole taking planets by friendly manipulation business, for me, as a Pole is such a great concept, that it makes me applaud the creators for taking that route. We know from history that this works. We know that in the tie of need the overtaken planets have to ways of behaving and maybe the societies will split because of individual decisions of people. But it is such a nice concept and it does make Lotor an awesome villain. Way better thank Zarkon in my opinion. And way better than his 80’s counterpart, that’s for sure.

Please don’t categorize Lance as a goofball. Please. Think of his self-esteem.

Pidge, you are way too smart for this.

Keith I love you, but don’t be so emo. Also, why didn’t anyone say that either him or Lance or Hunk are the pretty boys of the squad? BECAUSE THEY ARE.

The trying out Black Lion thing was both hilarious and insightful, because yeah: that is exactly what I expected and wanted and yet I couldn’t even try to imagine Pidge having seating problems and I feel you girl, I’m fucking tiny, I laughed my ass off so much, I had tears in my eyes. #short people problems.

ALSO FUCK ME, KEITH IS BEING SUCH A GREAT CHARACTER. LOOK HOW FAR DID HE COME FROM 1st SEASON. YES. Also Steven’s VA is A+ and I am swooning at that “please, no” with a small vibration and lots of pain in his voice and ugh. Such an awesome cast, such a great show.

SO BACK TO OUT BLUE BABY BOY. SOMEONE HUG HIM. AND WE ARE 2 EPISODES IN AND HE IS CONSTANTLY COMFORTING KEITH? THEY’RE HAVING BONDING MOMENTS *I bet Leith fangirls are crazy* YES LET HIM BE SO AWESOME <3 LET HIM BE THE OLDER BROTHER CHARACTER THEY ALL NEED <3<br>

OKAY SCRATCH THAT, SOMEONE HUG ALLURA. JFC, I shouldn’t get so emotional over this, but. Good writing is good.

BLUE, YOU SMART GIRL YOU, WHO IS THE SMARTEST LION? YES YOU ARE! YES YOU ARE! <3 I was wondering how they will solve this Lion shenanigans, I think I really love the solution. That and Lance trying pick-up lines on Blue. That was amazing. What wasn’t so amazing: the other kick to my gut to the line of ‘do you hate me now’. Ugh.<br>

OH LOOK MORE CONFIDENCE ISSUES FOR LANCE. UGH NO. NO NO NO. I HAD ENOUGH OF LANGST. STOP IT.

Oh look at that. Lotor definitely wants to be a pilot for Black. No wonder he has 4 Generals. SO my idea about badass villain Voltorn is pretty much confirmed by that. *James Oliver voice* cool.

Okay, but I still very much love Blue and Lance together? Like hey, don’t split them up, I know this is temporary, but… I really hate seeing him and Blue split up and Red and Keith split up and… OH HEY A LANLLURA MOMENT <3 (help what is their ship name????)<br>

JFC, SOMEONE RESTRAIN KEITH.

Thank God, all of the episodes are streaming, or I would literally die if I had to wait more than 1 minute after each episode.

3. “The Hunted”

Okay, I need more of this Lance being concerned by his fellow Paladins thing, because it’s doing wonders for my psyche. Also: Hunk is the most adorable Paladin, no questions asked.

Though this whole situation is making me miss Shiro. Not because Keith is hot-headed or that I agree that the Paladins aren’t used to their new lions, it’s because there is no calming but stern presence on the team? I though Allura would bring the calm, while Keith would have the stern part, but really, this right now is as far from ideal as possible. Voltron is a very fast-paced show and here, in situations like this it shows that it is somewhat a flaw – not from a narration standpoint, but from ‘how it should have been handled’ viewpoint: remember how long it took them to train and do the mind-meld? And Allura is completely new to this, unlike Lance and Keith, who at least know the ropes. That – I do not like.

And I fucking love Lotor. Shoutout to RvB fandom: he’s like a sophisticated Felix, don’t you think?  A villain you hate to love or love to hate and just. Ugh. Such a good character, seriously – I had no idea I would enjoy him so much. Especially since the way fandom started describing him just after the teasers with him, made me not really hyped about him. But we got something really great.

Well, at least it proves my point about training. We’re back to the point where Voltron sucks. *back to John Oliver’s voice* cool. I knew it would happen and can’t believe nobody thought it would happen in-universe and just… um. I have really mixed feelings about it. Like, we get character-development in this series and we get in-universe examples of learning on their mistakes… So what is exactly this? What is this episode?

But Keith, baby, you fucked up. And I mean it: if this won’t be addressed and you won’t own to this, if this whole thing will be pointless and will just leave us with ‘oh, better not to be so hot-headed next time, hahaha’, it will seriously piss me off. I already had a moment ‘oh, he got it!’ and then it was crushed in disappointment and. I get it, that’s his character, but. Also it’s not? Trauma aside, he should be smarter than this? Again: what the fuck hero? I mean, oh now, we got a teary admission at everything will be okay again? Please tell me, it won’t end like this.

And once again: let’s take a moment to appreciate Lance. Not only he is the voice of reason and the only one who can get to Keith, he is literally like the leader now. I am so happy.

But the visuals, animation and music are so amazing and beautiful. This has to be the prettiest animated show right now. Seriously: wow.

ALSO ALLURA IMITATING LANCE IS THE BEST THING EVER. OF ALL TIME. YES, I LOVE THIS. PLEASE GIVE ME MORE OF THIS. YES.

Also on a meta level. Does this also mean, that the closest one to Shiro is Keith, the closest to Keith is Lance and the closest to Lance is Allura? If yes, then that is a love-square I am not ready to tackle.

YES FOR ALLURA OWNING LOTOR. YES. “HUNK I’M A LEG!” GOD BLESS THIS SWEET GIRL.

4. “Hole in the Sky”

How come we are not addressing the ‘betrayal’ from the second episode? Oh and look at that: we are not addressing Keith’s fuck-up either, apparently his teary ‘it’s my fault’ was enough. That’s… disappointing. Maybe at least when we get Shiro back and he’ll be all “I knew you could lead Voltron”, Keith would be “Nope, no, not me, I fucked-up, I was the worst, never again.”. Still: meh.

MY FIRST THOUGHT: OH LOOK AU SLAV AND SHIRO.

MY SECOND THOUGHT: HOLY SHIT, WHAT THE FUCK. WHAT.

MY THIRD: IS THAT SVEN?? WELL PLAYED CREATORS, WELL PLAYED.

MY FOURTH THOUGHT: OH LOOK, THE ALTEANS AS THE GARLA AU WE ALL WANTED.

This is much more than I could have expected. Bonus points for Pidge’s dubious glances from time to time at the Alteans. Good stuff, yes.  

Oh look, this time we’re getting an ‘Allura will fuck it up’ moment instead. Like. HELLO? Character development? Learning from mistakes? Isn’t that a thing in Voltron?

SVEN NOOOOOOO AND SAVING LANCE? DOUBLE NOOOOOOOO.

And of course, Slav didn’t figure out that this reality will be screwed. Of course. I’m starting to silently cheer for Lotor. At least the guy has the brains and a plan.

5. “The Journey”

As the credits roll: At this point I’m acknowledging that this season we won’t get any real resolutions, just a lot of team-building and learning how to fuck up in every possible situation.

As the bubbles come out: Oh, mermaids again?

A second later: LSADHGADFLAHSD AS YES. HELLO, MY DEAR. I MISSED YOU. LET ME LOVE YOU. I was not expecting this.

So turns out Shiro with long hair and a stubble doesn’t look as hot as the fanart made me accustomed to… No, wait, I take that back. It’s just that ‘I hadn’t slept for weeks bags under his eyes, which are actually nice when you’re used to liking RvB Agent Washington. Anyway…He still looks good and almost healthy, however, fucked up that sounds. I always wondered how he maintained the same hair all the time while in prison.

OH LOOK A FLASHBACK. OH FUCK. I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT EITHER.

Okay, serious talk though. Where did he get the bandied? How did he start a fire? And can we stop making him suffer? At last? JFC, he needs a thousand hugs, and a lots of love and just happiness? He doesn’t deserve this, any of this. Again A+ voice acting, this time from Josh. That scream gave me shivers going down my spine and I was breathless and wow. That was powerful.

Give Shiro a Break 2017. And Save Shiro 2017. JFC, I teared up at his pained face.

You do not do this kind of things. I have legit tears in my eyes. No, this is not fair.

YES BLACK, GOOD GIRL. OR BOY. YES.

This is already my favorite episode this season. I’m crying.

THEY GOT SHIRO BACK. THANK HEAVENS. Does this mean we will get ponytail!Shiro now? Y/Y?

6. “Trailing a Comet”

I love Lance, I love Keith, but GDI, Keith let Lance have his fun too.

AND SERIOUSLY??? THIS IS IT???? Where are my hugs? We are tears? And happiness? And… IDK, emotions? Why. WHY???

OH FINALLY. NO WAIT. FUCK. I WAS NOT PREPARED. HOW DID HE GET SO NICE? NEW CLOTHES! AND A HAIRCUT. AND A SMILE AND PEP TALK. BUT EMOTIONS????? WHERE ART THOU???

WHY ARE WE GETTING SO MUCH KLANCE MOMENTS THIS SEASON. I AM NOT COMPLAINING, BUT WHY??? NO WAIT, SCRATCH THAT. THIS IS ANOTHER ‘I AM NOT NEEDED AS A PALADIN’ LANCE THING AND I’M OUT. HOLY FUCK. SOMEONE HUG HIM. PLEASE.

I like this thing where we don’t know who the leader is and what is the status-quo. I like that there isn’t anything smoothing up and getting back into position, with Shiro back. I don’t like the fact they don’t talk things out, that they do not communicate with each other and just… I feel like they’re falling apart, which is ironic because they just got back together. I don’t like the fact Black isn’t responding to Shiro. The last thing we need is him getting into the same mindset as Lance, seriously. I mean, yeah it’s all great that Allura is a Paladin that is great for Blue but… what about all the bonds? Is this going to be addressed or not? I feel like a lot of things are not getting addressed while they should be.

OH LOOK LOTOR’S LOVELY GENERALS <3<br>

OH NO. IS THIS A SHIRO WILL FUCK UP MOMENT? Please no. Look at Keith. No, no, no. Oh, this will end badly.

So, is Acxa Keith’s mom? I bet that’s Keith’s mom. That would be juuuuuust perfect. Also my girl Ezor is perfect, yep, she is <3 And I should really stop cheering for them.<br>

…I am getting confused as of ‘which one fucks up moment’ is it. Keith or Shiro’s. Or both? Or like the whole teams? Seriously: WHY? Well, at least you have to admire Lotor. He is fucking amazing.

7. “The Legend Begins”

The last episode this season and then the wait till October begins. On the plus side: October! Yaaay!. On the minus side:  October! Two fucking months.

If that cute girl Haggar had seen was for example: Allura’s mother. And for example, the person Zarkon loved, I will flip off. Seriously. I was getting used to the idea of Haggar being Lotor’s mother, but if he and Allura are half-siblings, I will be pissed off. It would make sense though, in a way. I think. Oh God, please let it not be true.

…Okay, Zarkon needs to chill. And is that Allura’s mother? SHE LOOKS LIKE HER. ALSO, DID THEY JUST INTRODUCED THE FIRST GAY PALADIN OF VOLTRON??? DID I INTERPRET THAT RIGHT? IS HIS NAME BLADES? NO FUCK IT’S BLAYATZ. I LOVE HIM. IS HE PILOTING BLUE????

OH LOOK, CUTE ALTEAN GIRL. NOT ALLURA’S MOTHER. IN WHOM ZARKON FALLS IN LOVE WITH. OKAY. Zarkon is cute wtf.

Honevra? OMG, she is changing, please tell me it’s not Haggar n the future.

Goodbye Alfor, the Blue Paladin, hello Alfor, the Red Paladin. I am not complaining. Pretty much since Allura’s speech, I thought he had to be the Red Paladin, instead of Blue.

OH LOOK BLAYATZ  IS THE BLUE PALADIN. YES. NOW GIVE ME BISEXUAL LANCE, I NEED TO CONNECT TO HIM MORE. FUCK I LOVE BLUE PALADINS. I WOULD BE A BLUE PALADIN.

I both understand and already fear Zarkon. Wow. A+ writing on getting me to like him. At least his before!betrayal thing. Blue Paladin is still my fave from this line-up <3<br>

SHE IS HAGGAR, HOLY FUCK. It’s not Zarkon. It was never Zarkon, I did not see this coming. It was her, all along, it was her. Wow. WOW. Also, I really feel sorry for Zarkon now? He… he just fell in love? He wanted his beloved to live and be happy? He got corrupted…? Can we cure him? Like, I did not see that coming. I am actually speechless. And that music in the background was enough to make me tear up. That was… Beautiful.

Also… This brings the ‘power of love’ to a greater, but different meaning.
