Skrills - The skrill was first found frozen, it's the symbol of the Berserkers, it can stay safely frozen for decades because of their internal body temperature, can't redirect any lightning if it's in the water 😳

Y'all the skrill and the nightfury have gotta be related somehow, they're probably like cousins or sum. I mean the night fury is the "unholy offspring of lighting and death" and the skrill can control lightning AND TECHNICALLY TOOTHLESS CAN TOO REMEMBER HTTYD 3 + they also have similar physical characteristics at least Imo.

i would argue the engineer is in a perpetual state of dad but let’s just ramp it up from like a 6 to like an 8 or 9 how abt that

The track of footprints he saw in his workshop first thing when he got out of his truck were a reminder, once again, that he really needed to remember to turn on the security system whenever he went into town.

“Yo, what’s up?” Scout greeted from his place kicked back way too far on one of the shop stools, grinning up from the magazine he was fairly sure he’d left nowhere near that side of the room.

A jab to one of the legs of the stool as he passed by got Scout to squawk and lean it back down to sit properly. He dropped his keys in the tray they belonged to and turned, leveling a stern look at the young man. “Hidy yourself,” he said, tone dry. “Care to tell me why you’re breakin’ into my workshop again, Scooter?”

“Hey, I didn’t break into nothin’, you left the back door unlocked,” Scout protested, tossing the magazine down.

“Well, if you’ve got the time to waste walkin’ all the way around the whole damn building to trespass, you’ve got time to help me unload the truck,” he said, and raised his voice to speak over the immediate groan from Scout. “With minimal backsass, thank you.”

Scout made a face to compensate, but stood up regardless. “No wonder you were gone all freakin’ day, you went all the way into town?” he asked, incredulous as he followed the Engineer out the garage door to the waiting truck. “What’d you head all the way out there for?”

“Xylene,” he shrugged, popping the tailgate down and hefting a canister, handing it off to Scout.

“Hey, good for you, man. Is she nice?” Scout asked as he took the canister with only a bit of a visible struggle lifting it, and it took the Engineer a good five seconds to figure out what the hell he was talking about.

“Xylene ain’t a—it’s not my—it’s paint stripper,” he stammered, flustered, putting down his own canisters to shut the tailgate.

“Look, it’s none of my business if she’s your girlfriend or what, man, let alone her day job,” Scout shrugged, turning to head back in.

“No, not—“ he started to stammer again, and then he caught the way Scout was snickering under his breath and just bapped him on the back of his head with his glove, picking up the other two canisters again and following after him. “Damn fool. Xylene’s just a type of solvent, or paint thinner.”

“So why do you need that?” Scout asked.

“Gonna use it as a cleaner, mostly, then for a bit of help with a few paint jobs I’ve got lined up,” he replied.

“Cool. Like, we talkin’ fences?”

“Nah, nothin’ like that,” the Engineer said, guiding him to set the canisters down to one side of the door.

“I don’t really know shit about paint, besides spray paint,” Scout said, setting the canister down and just barely missing landing it on his own foot, the Engineer flinching a bit at the sight. “Now that I know a thing or two about.”

“Well, you keep your spray paint away from my machines, y’hear? I don’t take kindly to vandalism,” he warned, moving to shut the garage door.

“Yeah, yeah, whatever,” Scout waved off, tugging on his hat.

It was only when he’d finished dusting off his hands that he looked over and realized something. “...Scooter, any particular reason you were in here waiting?” he asked, frowning a bit.

“I mean, nah, not really,” Scout laughed, tugging on his hat a bit more, then finally pulling it off altogether to wring it between his hands, not entirely making eye contact. “Like, it’s not a big deal or nothin’. I just had kind of a weird question, is all. Like, if you’re busy, don’t even worry about it.”

He raised an eyebrow, leaning against one of the workbenches. “Not elbow-deep in anything at the moment,” he said, “I’m all ears.”

Scout nodded, fidgeted. “Uh, guess I was just wonderin’, if uh... so, do you gotta change the oil on a motorcycle?”

“Yup. Regularly,” he nodded.

“Oh. How, uh, how often? Like, how regularly?” he asked, looking a little nervous.

“Yearly, about,” he shrugged. “Every few thousand miles it gets driven. Little more often than the oil on a car.”

“Oh,” Scout said again, and the Engineer’s eyebrows drew together.

“Scooter, are you tellin’ me you’ve never changed the oil on your motorcycle?” he asked, deadpan.

“Uh. Well... yeah,” he admitted.

“How long have you had the thing?” he asked, incredulous.

“Uh. Couple years,” he admitted, more quietly, still not making eye contact.

“Scout,” he admonished, and Scout shrunk a little. “Ain’t you ever had a machine to take care of before? Have you never had a car?”

“I could walk wherever I needed to go in Boston!” he protested. “Or get a ride from a friend or somethin’.”

“So you never had anyone tell you how to change the oil on a car growin’ up?” he asked, outright incredulous.

“Ma doesn’t know shit about cars, you kiddin’? She barely knows how to work the record player and even then she’d call me into the room whenever she wanted to change out the disk,” Scout scoffed.

The Engineer went to ask another question, but managed to stop himself before he could get too far into the sentence ‘What about your dad?’

A beat of silence. “So, uh, yeah, I should probably take that in then, huh?” Scout asked awkwardly.

“Absolutely not,” the Engineer said firmly, and moved over to one of the larger shelves, starting to sift through the tubes and bottles and canisters there. “Your bike’s still parked out ‘round the side of the building by the bread truck, ain’t it?”

“Uh,” Scout said, “yeah, I think?”

“Hold these,” the Engineer said, handing Scout a set of wrenches and starting to load a carrier with bottles. “I’m takin’ you out to show you how to do it yourself, and all the other sorts of maintenance, besides.”

“Woah, hey, c’mon, can’t I just take it into one of those, uh, oil change places?” Scout asked, fumbling for a free hand as he was handed the carrier and a few more tools.

“And have ‘em tell you every third bolt is rusted and you need to replace both tires three times apiece and you gotta rebuild the whole damn thing and then charge you by the hour to do it, no, you’re gonna do it yourself and then you won’t get yourself swindled,” the Engineer said firmly, and gestured at Scout to follow him, taking a few things off his hands when it became clear he’d drop them within five steps. “C’mon, then, let’s go.”

“Uh, okay,” Scout stammered, fumbling further for a moment before hurrying to follow.

And he continued to fumble his way through the process, and through the Engineer’s questions, and on the way back to the workshop again, but nodded with no small amount of enthusiasm when the Engineer suggested he help him next year, too.

Popping open the hood of her car, Y/N maneuvered from behind the wheel and in front of the car. Lifting the hood and propping it open with the hood prop, she tried to check what was wrong with the engine. To her knowledge, there was no issue with the car’s battery, and that the spark plugs looked intact, while there was no damage in her air filter.

Just as she was to open the radiator cap, Y/N heard heavy footsteps coming closer, peering over her shoulder, she was able to make out that it was Captain Rogers himself who seemed to be approaching her while carrying a bottled water with him. “Everything alright here?” he wondered as Steve stood a few metres away from her.

Placing one of her hands on the radiator cap, the other gestured to her car, “Not really, no. Car decided not to start so I’m left to wonder what’s wrong with it, Captain.” Steve nodded in understanding, “Want me to take a look at it? Pretty girls like you in that dress shouldn’t sweat these kinds of things, you know?”

Y/N chuckled nervously, surprised by the compliment but figured that being the gentleman that he was, Steve Rogers would offer to take a look at her car, she decided that she did not want to seem like a know-it-all or snobby, so she took up his offer, “Uh, that would be great, yeah. I’m not really knowledgeable with cars, so,” she trailed off weakly.

He smiled warmly at her, handing the bottled water, “You mind holding this for me? You can even have it if you want,” he offered, and the gleam in his eyes looked as if he really was concerned for her well-being. Nodding, Y/N took the bottled water — and in that moment did she only realize how thirsty she really was and so she twisted the cap, weirdly with ease and no hassle just like how one would usually struggle in opening a bottled water, and took a big gulp of it.

Wiping her mouth of the residual water with the back of her hand, she thanked Steve for his efforts, “Thank you for the water, by the way,” she began and she noticed how his smile widened and she was far too concerned with her car’s conditions to catch the hint of darkness behind that smile of his, “Any luck figuring out what’s wrong with it yet?”

She did not want to seem impatient or doubtful with his ability to figure out what was wrong with her car. No, she just was eager to go home and take a bubble bath while sipping on some wine. It had been a stressful two weeks for her, not only in terms of her work. But also of the two other events that involved two of the Avengers. There was a part of her that was debating whether she should file a harassment complaint since they both had made moves to her and refused to listen to her pleas. While there was also this part of her that was extremely satisfied and pleased with the events — for they both had given her unimaginable pleasure.

Lost in her thoughts, she missed how Steve had already checked on the transmission oil, windshield washer fluid, and brake fluid — for he was now lowering the hood prop and closing the hood. “It seems like there’s something wrong with the transmission oil and there’s a leak in the container of the brake fluid.” Y/N frowned, in confusion and disappointment, the past few times she’d use her car she failed to notice that there was something wrong or leaking with her car. But then it also meant that she would have to spend thousands on repairing it and now she had to take a cab home which would delay her relaxation plans.

With a sigh, she thanked him, “Well that’s a bummer, but thank you Captain. At least I know what to say to the mechanic when he takes a look at it,” Steve wiped his hands on his grey shirt, “It was nothing, just wished I could be of more help to you. Plus, call me Steve, it’s not like we’re complete strangers, yeah?”

Y/N was grabbing her shoulder bag and laptop bag that was placed on the front passenger side as Steve replied so she missed the light and dark smirk he had when saying the last part. Shutting and locking the car, “You were a big help, Ca-Steve, thank you, really. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll now be calling a cab.”

Upon saying how she decided to go home, Steve looked at her as if he had a bright idea, “What about I drive you home? It’s not like I have anything big planned tonight anyway,” he suggested to her. She looked up at him bewildered, she knew that Steve was kind and thoughtful, but she doubted she was someone important enough for him to go the extra mile. “If you’re sure it won’t be a big hassle to yeah,” before she could even finish the sentence, the Avenger was already grabbing her hand and leading her to where his car was parked.

“You seem very much eager huh?” she chuckled, trying to hide her nervousness. Steve looked at her and smiled, “Just need to get away from the compound, you know? Had a tough meeting earlier with Stark so needed to let off steam,” he explained.

At the mention of the hero, she silenced herself since memories of the time she spent with him resurfaced; while there was also a part of her that was curious about what they had talked about. Steve opened the door for her once they reached his car — she was also surprised with how there was only a short distance they had to walk to reach his car, but in her exhausted state, she was thankful for that. After closing the passenger door for her, Steve quickly jogged over to the driver’s side. “Uh I live at 300 40th avenue,” Y/N spoke up as he turned on the engine. As Steve began driving, he smirked as he mumbled something the head of research could not quite catch, “What did you say?” A shake of his blonde hair was the only response she got, before she could further inquire, there was a ringtone that surprised them both.

Muttering a string of apologies, Y/N grabbed for her phone and read the reminder she had set out to remind her to take her birth control pills. She decided that it would be better for her to take these pills instead of always buying Plan B every time she’s had sex. Fumbling, she looked for the pill case she placed on her bag, “Everything alright, Y/N?” Steve wondered and looked at her when they were stopped at an intersection by the stoplight.

She nodded, showing him the pill case she had found, “Just need to drink these, thanks once again for the bottled water,” putting the car back on drive, Steve could only smile to himself and say how it was nothing big. From his peripheral vision, he could see how she swallowed the pill and washed it down with the water, finishing it all in one gulp. They knew how she twice bought Plan B following her sexual activities with Sam and Tony; they were surprised as well to find out that she started to be on the pill.

After taking the pill, Y/N started to feel drowsy. Which was weird considering the previous times when she’d take it and be able to carry out with the rest of her day. It must be because of the exhaustion, she thought to herself. With that, she allowed herself to close and rest her eyes.

Turning off the engine and parking in a dark and secluded spot. They have yet to reach her place, but knowing that the front of it was illuminated and had the tendency of having passersby — and Steve could not risk anyone seeing them. Unbuckling his seat belt, he turned to where the sleeping beauty had peacefully been snoozing ever since she drank all of the water he had drugged.

His left hand was reaching over to her side to lower her seat while the right one unlatched her seat belt. Once he’s done both, Steve crossed the center island of the car and straddled over where Y/N’s unconscious form was laying. Brushing his knuckles over cheeks he stared at her adoringly, “Maybe our next time together, you’ll be fully awake. And hopefully then you’ll be able to enjoy this.”

The worst part of social anxiety is not knowing if ppl’s reactions are reality or just in your head.

I have been battling with my head for weeks abt whether or not ppl are being cool or not with me. It’s easy to say “it’s all in your head!!!” But I’m terrified I said something to upset ppl or am just overall generally annoying to ppl.

i think the problem is that i went a few yrs with very few IRL friends. i had my sister and my bff, but other than coworkers and students, i didn’t have friends or ppl i went out with. when i moved to boston, it was literally my sister. and now, i’m making some friends. i’ve gone to dinner, to their houses, you know - having friends like a normal person.

it’s hard. that sounds so STUPID. it’s not like we’re super close or anything. it’s very casual friends. but god, it triggers my social anxiety EVERY TIME WE’RE TOGETHER. my brain just whirls and overanalyzes and is paranoid and - it sucks. i hate spending every evening after interacting dissecting what i said and thinking i’m an idiot or said something wrong. i hate being around them and not knowing WHAT to say and being awkward and not understanding how to easily join a conversation and then trying and accidentally interrupting or speaking over someone.

like i went to one of their houses friday night, and i was so anxious i was sweating through my clothes. and i swear, my life is like bridget jones bc that is me in any social situation. and there was a semi-cute single guy there that was nice and i tried talking to him, but i became monosyllabic and stumbled over my words and my brain froze and when he looked at me and smiled, i just kinda maybe smiled and turned my eyes to the floor bc i can’t look at a cute dude and smile wtf?????

like, i used to be able to socialize with ppl. wtf happened to me??? it’s like the last decade i have been in this whole with like 2 friends and my parents and very few other “friends”. talking to coworkers and students is easy. it’s short, small talk. and you can just not say anything and no one cares. but trying to talk to friends is so difficult.

it doesn’t help that we’re VERY different. they’re very small town southern, not into geeky things. they don’t watch the same television shows and movies i do and don’t really read books. their jobs are very different. i like them - don’t get me wrong. but fundamentally, i feel so different. and sometimes i feel like THAT person bc they have barely left their tiny town in south carolina to do anything, and i’ve traveled all over the US and europe and lived in three different states and had like a zillion jobs and have all these interests and i just have stopped saying things bc i feel like THAT guy when i don’t mean to be THAT guy. i’ve just done a lot. it’s like the one thing i have going in my life. i have no friends, no boyfriend, no kids, but i’ve lived and traveled a lot of places and done a lot.

idk. my depression is popping up. the semester is over, so it’s summer break. it’s a weird transition time. plus, i’m working from home so i’m just going to crossfit and that’s it. i’m not getting dressed in nice clothes or fixing my hair or putting on makeup. so i hate looking in the mirror right now. yes, i know i can do those things to make myself feel pretty even though i’m just sitting on the couch, but i’m just busy and don’t want to spend an horu of my day curling my hair when i could be, idk, reading or writing or watching a movie.

and i’m behind on my dissertation again. if you’ve been following me for awhile, you know i’ve talked about the dickbag dissertation director i have. which reacts very negatively with my anxiety and depression. i’ve got 4.5/5 chapters 1st drafts written. i have comments to revise on them. i want to revise, but i just have to START. but i’ve convinced myself (with zero support from the dissertation direct) that i suck and shouldn’t even be getting this fuckign phd. i know he doesn’t think i’ll finish bc of my life and mental problems, and i KNOW i can finish and prove that asshole wrong. it’s just...probably the hardest thing i’ve ever done. if i would have known it would have been like this, i either wouldn’t have gotten one or chosen a speciality i liked less just to work with someone who believed in me.

and i have the worst case of writer’s block i’ve had in ages. like i just stare at word. it’s been like that since like january. i just want to WRITE. i have so many ideas bouncing around in my head and i’m getting depressed bc i CAN’T write like i’ve broken something inside me.

this is all so stupid. it’s just a bad bad night. i’ve been having mild anxiety attacks for like 3-4 weeks, like low level anxiety and trouble breathing like there’s a band around my waist making it hard to get in oxygen. and tonight i just...idk...i don’t want to sleep bc i want to cry but i’m fucking exhausted. my sister had minor outpatient surgery last week that took a toll on her, and she’s been sick for like 4-5 mths, and i’ve been trying to take care of her, our new dog, the house, and my 2 jobs. and my disseration. and i did this research project in my research-based comp class this semester, which was really cool, bc i’m trying to bulk up the teaching/pedagogy part of my cv (bc i hopefully will be on the job market in the next year or so). and that took a lot of time, but i got accepted to 2 teaching conferences speaking about it, so yayes for that. and i’ve been keeping up with crossfit, but my diet has been kinda wonky, so FOOD GUILT and stress eating. and my parents were here helping me with my sister for like a week, which was great, except being with my parents is like a THING and the most exhausting thing ever. we just argue the whole time and they hate being at our hosue bc we do things differently than they do, and my mom kept making all these comments about how i haven’t taken good enough care of my sister for the past 4-5 mths that she’s been sick, and like they buy all this food and stuff to bring with them bc what we have isn’t good enough, or it’s snide comments like “well, they don’t eat BREAD...why don’t you use butter? i brought my own meat bc we don’t EAT that stuff...we don’t eat *insert bad food followed by eating different bad foods but getting mad when i point out the hypocrisy*” etc etc. and my mom has an eating disorder/body image problems (runs in the family, surprise surprise) which kinda floats over into me and things she says to me, and she constantly makes snide comments about me doing crossift, and like i love my mom, but omg i just want to be like WHY CAN’T THINGS BE GOOD WHEN YOU’RE HERE?? and that upsets me bc it’s like oil and water and i feel guilty.

it’s just been stressful this year already. we’ve had a lot going on. i just need a break. but idek what i’d do with a break bc i can’t relax. and i can’t write bc of the writer’s block,w hich stresses me out, and when i’m watching tv, i feel like i should be writing or dissertating or working, so i’m just constantly in knots.

anyway. this is just a verbal vomit post to see if i could feel better and dissipate some of these anxiety/depression feelings and get to bed.

So Friday morning, my fiance' and I were headed to New Jersey to visit his family for Christmas. On the way there, I was driving his truck so he could sleep a little before we switched places. Early morning when we were in Virginia, I pulled off the highway to go to a McDonalds to get some coffee. When I pulled off, it was a weird exit and I had no clue where I was going. I stopped at a red light, which had another light very close behind it which turned green, my idiot self was looking at that light for some reason while our light was still red...I hit the gas and then slammed on my breaks realizing what I was doing but it was too late and I hit a guy on the side of the door. It wasn't a big wreck. The guy didn't fly across the intersection. He didn't even move, his door was just dented and it will definitely need to be replaced but the man said he was not hurt at all. The truck we were driving in barely had damage, just a little dent in the hood that was very small to the eye and a bent license plate. We were in much better shape; but again, he was not in pain and his door was the only thing that seemed to be damaged. ANYWAYS, I received a traffic ticket for failing to obey a traffic light which I totally accept because this was extremely stupid of me and I am planning on mailing the fine to the court. So since I was driving my fiance's car, which is under his parents insurance, I assume my insurance is not affected. The trooper just told us that the other guy's insurance will contact my fiance's insurance. So I am thinking all I have to do is just pay this awful fine. Well my fiance' called me this morning and said that Statefarm (the other guy's insurance) called him asking for my number. Why would the other guy's insurance need to contact me if my fiance's parent's insurance are the ones who insure the truck? I just want to know what's to come when they call me. Wow dont ask me how, but I lucked up and found some RIDICULOUSLY cheap insurance. I have been looking for about a day and a half. Every last MAJOR insurance company you can think of. For some reason everyone on here kept saying check out Progessive. They were one of the MOST expensive. If you have a SUPER sport bike. Meaning either the Kawaski 12 or 14 or the Suzuki 1300 Busa, everyone is quoting you between $6,000 to $8,000 for a year. Thats like $400-$500 a month. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen in my life. But then my salesman told me to call State Farm. Hi, I passed my CBT in february 2011, so i have been riding for under a year, on a honda cbr 125. It was around 250 for third party. I'm looking to buy a better quality 125cc motorcycle before doing my Standard Motorcycle Test some time in 2012. I'm looking to get my hands on a 2008 (or there abouts) yamaha yzf r125, as i believe this is a high performance 125 that will be able to indure the 100+ mile journies i will need to make every few months. I will need better insurance on a bike like this - Third Party Fire and Theft preferably. Here in BC there are a number of insurance brackets (based on displacement) which determine the base rate. All bikes in any one bracket pay the same, so a 600cc sportbike is cheaper than a 883 Sportster (these are only for liability, theft and collision are based more on $$ value). In general, is it the same in NB? Would I save money by going to a smaller bike (I currently ride a 1127cc Suzuki GSX1100G), assuming the actual $$ value of the bike was about the same? Does the type of bike matter? I'd ask an insurance agent, but they are usually pretty reticent to explain how their rates are determined. Hope you can help.""
