What are your top 5 dramas that you've watched this year? I'm trying to get back into watching them.
HMMM this year?? let's see:
meet yourself - if you're in need of a light, v therapeutic watch, this is the show for you, stars li xian and liu yifei (who are both so so so pretty)
destined - let's just work off the premise that everything bai jingting is in is excellent and go from there. arranged marriage period cdrama, a little like new life begins but nlb is a lot lighter.
till the end of the moon - do......i even talk about this, or can i assume y'all know how unhinged i am over tantai jin already
mysterious lotus casebook - jianghu period cdrama, excellent characters, super fun time
west out of yumen - ni ni + bai yu + desert adventure thriller?? literally what is there not to like. i just finished this last night!!
uhhh shout out also to the blood of youth (would enjoy if you enjoyed mlc), here we meet again (cute romcom i just binged over the weekend), the road to ordinary (this post reminded me i never finished the show because i got too busy, so it's back on my watchlist, the eps i did watch were excellent!), the pledge of allegiance (casefic period cdrama, dragged at times but was overall v interesting), a league of nobleman (also casefic period cdrama; meh about song weilong but everyone else in this was excellent).
wanted to like but never got into, but might be a me problem rather than a problem with the show: road home, under the microscope
i've done rec posts for some of them before, so i've just link those, otherwise i've linked the mdl page so y'all can read about the show before starting!

Revenge of Others was literal insanity like I mean Park Wonseok gets murdered and the whole reason he gets murdered is because Gi Osung is absolute scum like the dots connecting are crazy!!
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!
The timeline of events in question:
Park Wonseok is gay and dating a classmate
Gi Osung takes pics of them and uses said pics to blackmail Wonseok
And by blackmail I mean Osung bullies and uses Wonseok to bully other people
Which then makes everyone hate Wonseok and think he’s a terrible person to the point they were glad he died
But plot twist Seok Jaebum found out about Gi Osung and Kook Jihyun
Turns out Gi Osung was in love with Jihyun ( whose his step sister by the way)
And Jaebum had a video of them kissing and used that to blackmail Osung into leaving Wonseok alone
So Osung got mad and pushed Jaebum off the top of a freaking building
At which point Jaebum ended up in a coma and woke up with memory loss
So Osung used that to his advantage and gaslit Jaebum into believing that Wonseok was the one who pushed him off the building so much so that get this
Jaebum’s split personality or spirit of his dead twin brother (not quite sure which) ended up killing Wonseok
And then tried to make it seem like Sooheon was the one that did it
And Gi Osung knew this and covered up for him just so nobody would find out that he was the one who pushed Jaebum off the building in the first place!!
And to top it all off Osung got mad and went after Sooheon and used his step sister who he was supposedly in love with to do it by kidnapping her and threatening her with a knife
At which point they got into a fight and Osung ended up falling off the top of their school roof
And then every single student in that place covered for Sooheon to protect him
And that’s not even getting into the fact that Sooheon was going around beating the ever living shit out rapists and murders on the side for money or getting shot at by his girl who thought he was the one that did it for a hot second
Like hot damn y’all that shit was WILD!!!

I have rediscovered Sweet Home and am once again hit with the fact that my favorite characters tend to be “pathetic guy who is a bit OP at times, deserves better, and keeps dying/having very near-death experiences” and I-

OK but can I just take a moment to say I've seen this man in at least a dozen of the kdramas I've watched over the past 3 yrs?? he's everywhere. every time I start a new series and I suddenly see him I'm like?? you again???
and I say this with all the love in the world because I absolutely adore this actor; he's fkn fantastic in everything I've seen him in. this is Ahn Nae-sang's world and we're living in it.

top 5 actors
Lau. I don't know why you think I know these people's names. Well, shit. Can't I just list 5 black sails characters?
Okay.
1- Denzel Washington.
I know people keep saying he plays the same roles over and over, but I've seen the Glory. I've seen clips of Malcom X. I've seen Much Ado About Nothing. I've seen Remember the Titans. Denzel Washington is an AcTEUR. The Bone Collector! And yall can suck my toes. And not in a way that'd be fun for toe enjoyers.
2- Jessica Parker Kennedy
Fight me. I know YOU won't fight me. But fight me. For Max alone she deserves it. But I really love the difference between the Noras. She needs something with Recognition. Since Award Seasons was too busy smelling GOT farts to pay attention to Black Sails.
3- Yoo In-na
I've loved her since Touch Your Heart. And her drunk scene in Bo-ra! Deborah! really got me. I wanted to watch the show because of her and I love her character. I love what she brings to her -- the pain and the heartache and the struggles. I heard she was so good in Snowdrop but I don't know that I want to see it. I need her to be in more shit, so I can follow. I'm going to watch te Goblin (eventually) for her and Lee Dong-wook
I honestly can't say she is my top three EVER, but she's my top three right NOW. I feel a lot of feelings when this woman's characters break down. And she does dead eye, completely stripped down stare so well. Whew.
4. lndira Varma
Only lower on the list, because unlike In-na and Jessica -whom I have watched/returned to things for - most of Indira's stuff have come CLOSE to watching for her. Which mostly have to do with how tired/busy/etc I am or if the show was too white for me to tolerate than the level of her skill. She, JPK, and probably Denzel would make it on any 'forever faves' list I had (and that too would not be in order).
5. Katie Cassidy
Sue me. I started Arrow for her. She was my favorite Ruby. I adored Laurel. I don't know man, she deserves recognition.
Top Five.

also in a post that is quite possibly about to be the most out there thing i have said about this show to date i would like to present the possibility that Jun Mo placing his wedding ring on the headstone of Ki Cheol's grave next to Eui Jeong's necklace is not just the surface of an extremely f*cked up final proposal and acknowledgement of the OT3 that was formed (and did mostly hold up until the bitter end) but also a way of framing Jun Mo as the Javert of this Les Misérables, telling Valjean that he has won. no where are you going come back i wasn't finished yet bc see it's the parallels. you have to understand it's Jun Mo having his sole focus as hunting Ki Cheol down finishing the job and getting his promotion and somewhere along the way realizing that the lines have blurred. it's the roles being fluid enough that they switch frequently throughout the show bc it is Ki Cheol who asks why Jun Mo let him go. (bit of a side note here for context but i didn't realize what he meant until i went back and saw that the engine was still running. the key for the handcuffs was there in plain sight on the passenger seat he wanted him to leave. to run away from it all like Hae Ryeon bc even when the mask was off he didn't want him to get hurt. ah. i see.) and even though in the original novel Valjean lets Javert go and then Javert lets him go it is Javert that asks why in every adaptation that i have seen to date. i'm reminded of the '98 version with Liam Neeson and their final meeting by the Seine when in TWOE they are all crammed into that tiny apartment but it is Valjean, who dies much too early here. it is Javert who is left to pick up the pieces, and then he too dies inside himself. the raindrops on the gravestone are the Seine in miniscule the ring is the letter he wrote him walking away is the final plunge into the abyss. here, Javert ceases to exist. here, Valjean is the only one that is truly free even in death. someone play As Flowers Bloom and Fall from the OST for Sado pls we're going to need it

I already asked some of y’all this so clearly I’m still ruminating - but I think I need a garbage show to watch to fill the void True Blood has left behind. I’d love some recommendations
