i’m so glad doctor who s9e11 heaven sent exists i love heaven sent so much. one man, alone in a hell tailor-made for him, trying to break a diamond wall by punching it with his bare fists for 4.5 billion years in a loop that he chooses to manually reset by burning himself on his deathbed every time instead of just leaving! which he always has the option to do! the sheer audacity of trying to depict that in a 45-minute tv episode and succeeding. it would have been so easy for the execution not to live up to the concept but it did. and it’s amazing. the creepiness of the decaying corpse with the buzzing flies and the ticking of the clock, the increasing horror as you figure out what’s going on, the genius of showing us not the first time through but one 7000 years after he started, the painful power of the fast-forward sequence and the bitter triumph of “personally, i think that’s a hell of a bird.” truly one of the best things i’ve ever watched.
