< Spider is more Na’vi than human and the only one of his kind>

okay first! So I’ve decide I preferred this idea much more so this is going to be the Spider blessed by Eywa universe not the other one.

<if you want you can just skip to the bullet points, the text is just a little background 🫶>

So in this au Paz was still pregnant when she went to fight, she was too stubborn not to and refused to be the man behind (like Ronal did)

Here helicopter gets taken down and after she crashes she goes into labour like a week early. She’s all alone in the crashed ship, hanging from vines, and now she has to deliver a baby that won’t be able to breath the air.

So whilst all this is happening Paz is just praying so anyone (Eywa but she doesn’t know that) that her baby will live even though she knows it’s not possible. The baby is born but instead or it choking and dying instantly he’s some how breathing the air!

Paz is relived and names him Miles, she also gives him the nickname spider because even though he’s just been born he’s grabbing onto her and wriggling around like a little Spider.

She writes his name down on some cloth and wraps her little baby in it.

Despite the miricle of him being able to breathe Paz is still worried he’ll die soon because she’s weak, running out of oxygen and her legs are crushed. Sadly a few days later Paz dies but eywa is not letting this little baby go so easily.

So all the animals of Pandora start raising him (think Tarzan 😂) and Eywa is always watching him.

Adaptations to spiders body :

He can breath Pandora air (duh)

His lungs are stronger than most humans

His brain develops a little faster (not in the way I picture a Na’vi child’s would but better than an human)

His stomach can stand most foods, the only downside is some of them make him feel nauseous and sick (still better than dying though)

His bones are stronger than normal human bones and naturally more healthy

He has a great sense of balance like the Na’vi just without the tail

His skins a little stronger to survive the wildlife

He grows bigger than average human (he’s not huge like the Na’vi but he’s generally taller the humans, just enough so that you could point it out as weird)

He can connect to the spirit tree by touch & is generally more in-tune with Eywa so we get some confusing spirit dreams 😎

Childhood / it’s effects :

Spider can’t speak English only Na’vi (until he’s taught later) .This is because the only talking he’s been taught is by Na’vi through the spirit tree & Eywa’s guidance, so naturally, no English.

Spider was raised by animals who are still in Eywa’s light (animals who haven’t gone insane and violent due to human intervention)

Spider is definitely one of the favourite people of his Thanator family. A mother and her cub.

Used to run around with ‘angtsìk babies by their water source (the giant hammerheads that chase Jake in the first movie)

He totally messes around with Ikrans, some of the older one will snap at him but he’ll just snap right back, much to the amusement of the young ones

When he was first learning to climb he imitated the prolemuris

He’s distrustful of the scientists because his thanator family are distrustful & also because what the voices of the people from the spirit tree said.

He’s not a clean eater. Definitely just a shove it all into your face with your hands at first.

So I’m sticking with the idea that it’s Kiri who finds him, but it’s later in life/closer to movie age.

Spider defo likes Mo’at the most out of all the adults.

Spider has to eventually stay with the sully and leave with them to join the metkeyina (even though he doesn’t know them that well bc Eywa said so)

Basically the movie plot but more feral blessed spider fun ✨✨✨

Also I love the idea of a thanator trying to teach a baby what to do and how to pretty much be a Na’vi whilest having no idea what’s going on 😂😂

So yeah! This is my blessed spider / raised by Eywa (although is more like she gets everyone else to do a better job 👀) Au! Don’t know what I’m honing to do with it but imma do something!

My thoughts on ATSV in no particular order:

Yeeeep, guess who just saw the movie...

Despite Peter saying Miguel is the only spiderman with no humor, I found his need for dramatic pauses funnier than mostly everyone else. The only ones I thought were hilarious were Peter B., Pavitr and Hobie (I'm talking about the spider cast here)

Pavitr is amazing, I love him very much. I wished we got more of him

In general I really liked the team up between Miles, Gwen, Hobie and Pavitr. If they ever make a spinoff series I'd love for it to be about them being a multiversal team!

Idk if this was intentional but I spent a good chunk of the movie not really liking Gwen nor Peter B. much. Gwen bc, to me, she spent almost the whole movie feeling sorry for herself while trying to stay on everyone's good side, which is impossible lol. And Peter B. bc he didn't seem to worry about Miles as much as someone in his position (he's the one who spent most of the first movie mentoring and acting as a paternal figure to Miles) would have, at least in my opinion

I related a lot to Peter B. when he started gushing about Mayday's photos, except I'm an aunt not a parent

While I now understand why people don't really like Miguel. 1) he's not the villain, he's an antagonist, it's different; 2) he's not a cultist, he doesn't have the charisma for that, every spider (except Miles) already believed what he was explaining to Miles; 3) my man's only wrongs are his anger issues, not having a different (pessimistic) perception of how the multiverse works

The art and animation was amazing as always. And the music was really good, definitely adding some stuff to my playlist

Honestly I don't want to make any analysis of across the spider verse bc not in a long time have I felt so keenly that a movie is part 1 of a story. Only Gwen's arc is completed, and the main themes I'm interested in - Miles getting to tell his own story, e.g. - are just not explored fully without getting the answers we need.

ITSV was a movie where Miles got to accept that he can be a hero, that he can fill the shoes of Spider-Man. The constant idea that we already know the story is brought up again and again - "you know the rest" "let's do this one more time". On the one hand it's meta commentary on the fact that in 2018 we'd seen 3 live action spider men not to mention a dozen animated tv series and countless comics. On the other hand, it's urging us to listen, listen, we think we know the story, but no we don't. Because every spider person's story in the movie is different - and ultimately, Miles' story is wholly his own.

ASTV needs to build on those themes, and it does! But the way it does it is it challenges the idea of Spider-Man in the first place. Why does the story have to go a certain way? Miles doesn't need to fill in Peter Parker's costume, he's designing his own! And a lot of how these themes are explored is still up in the air!! We straight up don't have the answers to the questions I have - what makes a Canon Event? How did Spider-42 end up in 1610, how did Earth-42 survive the lack of Spider-Man, is it Miles who made it so Peter B could break the pattern of misery or could anyone have done it if they were brave enough?

The only character who gets a full fledged story arc in ASTV is Gwen, because her story doesn't, frankly, touch on these themes. Like, we could argue that her father quitting the force might mean she doesn't have a police captain she's close to and that's a canon event or whatever, but the rest is entirely unrelated (a full post on Gwen's themes is coming separately because I got an ask, I just wanna rewatch the movie before I answer it).

Since Spider-Verse as a whole is Miles' story, and since these are Miles' themes and questions, until his character arc completes and we get some practical answers I just don't think I can sit and say, this means this, even just to me. I'm far better at analyzing whole stories, where one exists. At least that's how I feel. Because whether Miguel is lying, or wrong, or not doing either but still Miles is about to change the system, anything that happens in BTSV - it's all going to determine how I'm going to feel about what we're presented with in this film.

It's so intrinsically a part 1, it feels like I read the first half of a book and was told to write a book report. I can half ass it, but I'm going to be missing important context.

Thoughts on Across the Spiderverse:

first off, the opening????? i was so estatic!!!!! Gwen was one of my favorites in the previous film so the fact that we began with her???? 😍 i love

but also like, maybe it’s the fact that it is pride month or maybe it’s the type of language used during this movie but…..anyone else got like a sort of queer-coming out kind of vibe?

lemma explain, the whole dynamic between Gwen and her dad, Miles and his parents, the fact that every spiderman is on their own in their world and feel so isolated but find community and belonging in the other spider-people (which was something Miles has been craving in the start of the movie).

THE WHOLE SPEECH MILES GAVE TO HIS (not)MOM ABOUT HOW HE THOUGHT HE COULD FIND BELONGING WITH OTHERS “LIKE” HIM LIKE BRO 🤧

also, the scene where Gwen reveals herself to her dad 🥺 and it just doesn’t go well T^T and you can hear the heartbreak and the stiff acting from the dad (jfc those VAs, man 🤧 put their heart into that)

or maybe it’s just me projecting 🤷🏻‍♀️ idk Miles and Gwen are like the two character i adore and relate to so much, so that could be why i saw it that way.

Ok but silly fic idea:

You and a spider person of your choice handling an anomaly in the MCU/Raimiverse/TASM/Sony Universe aka where Venom takes place in… and like, you both turn live action to match the “art style” of this universe.

Rambling under the cut bc I don’t wanna clog the TL

Yk how Gwen in her world can like, shift colors depending on her emotions for symbolism purposes bc her world has a watercolor-ish art style?

And whenever Gwen isn’t in her native world, she mainly remains the same but there’s a subtle art style change where she doesn’t shift colors. But I swear it’s only her who kinda has an art style change bc look at Hobie constantly changing color and is animated in a slower framerate, the live action Prowler anomaly (ily Childish Gambino Prowler cameo), Noir staying black and white in any world, and TSSM!Peter staying true to his cartoon’s art style.

What if I bend the rules a bit and make it more like the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon where Peter and Green Goblin went to several alternate universes. Miguel, Ham, and Noir’s universes have a distinguishing art style, in which they’re CGI animated, has a simplified cartoony art style, and well… black and white respectively and when the two entered those universes… they changed art styles to match those universes. But when Peter and Norman went to a universe where the characters are genderbent versions of their universe, they don’t change appearances bc of the similar art styles in those two universes.

Just gonna clarify stuff here before y’all accuse me of disrespecting animation. I love Spiderverse’s animation. It’s just that the idea of the characters in the Spider-Verse movies going to a live action universe and become live action themselves will be botched if Hollywood ends up pitching and producing it, so I personally just have fun brainstorming this particular idea myself.

I mean like: fancasts of Marvel characters you wanna see in live action or whatnot isn’t an uncommon thing in fanon (look at the John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic fancast) and I have found actors I think would be great to play this Spider-Verse chara in live action in addition to wanting some of the original actors to reprise the role.

!! the return of harley “daddy issues” keener (or is it mostly new angst? or mostly, like, physical?)

okay i love all these anons but also i am trying So Hard to not spoil things omg. please send more but also if i lowkey spoil something eventuallly it’s not my fault !! it actually definitely is entirely my fault but shhh

but anyways, kind of and also kind of not?

so like, in to build a family harley and peter are teenagers, but not like homeward bound. they’re high schoolers still, yk? they’re younger and haven’t gone through all the things that homeward bound harley and peter have gone through. i only bring up tbaf because obviously harley has Daddy Issues™ in tbaf. even before the second fic when his dad dies and he has to deal with that—in the first fic there’s a part where harley reminds his sister of their dad bc of how he left to go to new york and it’s this whole moment, yk? but he’s younger in tbaf and since tbaf is like not at all canon compliant to the mcu, they’ve gone through a lot less in comparison to hb, yk?

i say all that because while daddy issues are an ongoing lifelong thing for homeward bound harley, they aren’t as detrimental or as Big as they are in tbaf or other fics i’ve written where that comes up. hb harley is still effected by his daddy issues but he’s 18, he’s in college, he died for 5 years and came back to find out tony died, he has some family stuff that will be further explored and explained in the sequel with his mom and sister, and now also he has peter and the knowledge that peter is spider-man and the heaviness that comes with peter’s tragedies and past as well.

it’s a heaviness he’s okay with, don’t get me wrong, he’s more than happy to be there for peter and to learn these things and has been curious about peter since the first time peter walked into late night (again, will be explained more in the sequel!) but it’s heavy nonetheless, you know?

essentially, in the grand scheme of things, while he’s still impacted by his daddy issues, he also just… doesnt care anymore? like not caring doesn’t erase the impact but also he barely thinks of his dad and when he does he doesnt feel angry or upset or any of the things he felt in the past about his dad leaving, he just… doesnt care. he’s been through so much at this point that it’s just Another Thing. he’s desensitized to it to the point that like, why does it matter? it doesn’t.

there’s a part in hb, i can’t remember which chapter but it’s a small texting segment in one of the chapters where harry talks about him harley and peter making a no dad’s club for funsies and in that text convo harley mentions that he has a dad he just doesnt know where he is and doesn’t care enough to find out.

also, to answer that last part—it’s new angst that includes physical stuff! there’s gonna be… a lot lmao. i have a lot of things planned for this series, a lot of ideas taken from various comics, from the movies, from the games, etc. i’m even planning to read through plotlines for some of the animated series to see if there’s any additional ideas to draw from there.

but like, think of it this way, i guess: harley cares. a LOT. like some of his remaining daddy issues have developed in the form of being a bit slow to trust new people, but like he’s mentioned in the fic, once he chooses to care about someone, he is ALL IN. he is COMMITTED. and now that he knows about peter being spidey and is actively choosing to be involved in that, his instincts and his heart are going to want to do anything and everything he can to help.

okay actually sorry this answer is SO long BUT i remembered something i had harley say and i went back and looked and in chapter three he tells peter “my Mama says I have the heart of a protector” and THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT IM TRYING TO CONVEY HERE LMAO so THAT is who he is at heart yk?

and peter is gonna be in a lot of dangerous situations as spidey, and as the series goes on people connected to him are going to be in danger because of spidey, and essentially like…. a lot of emotions and a lot of angst and a lot of potential for getting hurt, yk?

i need to stop here because i keep almost saying fuck it and giving an example that is definitely a spoiler but yeah. take that as you will (:
