#and that's how she 'finally' fits in with the superfriends

Prompt: filler scene for how lea finds out about Lena protecting her in the finale from Andrea because unless Lena says something there’s no way she would know
Returning from the Phantom Zone is harder than Kara expects it to be. She’s already done it once, so this time should be easier. It isn’t. Her bones hold a perpetual chill, and the normalcy that quickly settles over her friend group keeps her wondering when the hallucination is finally going to end. She doesn’t trust it to last. How could she, when she has seen it countless times before? How can she when each time her happiness and relief inevitably ends in pain and blood and death?
The worst of it is Lena.
Lena, so hesitant and beautiful and sad, lingering in a state of in between. She’s found her place among the Superfriends, that much is apparent even to Kara. What’s less apparent is where she fits with Kara. Kara feels Lena’s need to reconnect, a need reciprocated deep in Kara’s chest, but Kara keeps her distance.
Even if this Lena is real, safe from whatever violent end that would befall her in Kara’s phantom-induced dreams, so much has transpired between them. So much pain and heartache that Kara can’t bring herself to face– so much doubt as to whether Lena won’t hurt her again. If she does, if it all falls apart again… Kara doesn’t know if she could survive it.
Kara mentions her apprehension to her sister one night, when Alex observes how distant she’s been with Lena. Lena, who has proven herself time and again since Kara was banished, only Kara wasn’t around to see it.
Alex grows quiet, then beckons to Kara. “There’s something you need to see.”
Alex sits her laptop in front of Kara, logging in and pulling up a video saved in its own separate folder on the hard drive. The video loads to an image of Lena’s lab at LuthorCorp. She recognizes herself reclined in the chair she’d used to communicate in the virtual reality, and sees Lena nearly off screen, monitoring her status.
“Alex…”
She was there– she doesn’t need a replay of that awkward handshake they’d shared when they’d agreed to bygones.
“Just… watch.”
When Alex presses play, Kara waits for herself to wake up. But that’s not what happens. She almost gasps when Acrata steps into frame, a sharp shard of something green gripped tight in her fist.
Kryptonite.
But faster than the bile that rises in Kara’s throat, Lena is there, stepping between Supergirl and her would-be killer without hesitation. Words are spoken– there’s audio, but Kara doesn’t hear. All she can process is the way Lena’s chin lifts, baring her throat to the jagged shard that could tear through her skin as easily as Supergirl’s. All she can see is the way Lena plants her feet, her stance strong and immovable… Kara doesn’t hear, but she knows what Lena says.
Lena would die before letting Acrata anywhere near Kara.
Kara’s breath catches in her chest, and suddenly she can’t breathe past the weight of what she’s seeing.
“Brainy pulled the footage before he left LuthorCorp,” Alex explains softly. “She was willing to give her life for you, Kara. And while you were gone– when I say she never stopped working to get you back, I mean ceaselessly. We had to force her to take breaks.”
Kara doesn’t respond. She can’t.
Alex takes her hand and gives it a squeeze. “I know you guys have a lot to work through,” she continues, “and I know it can be scary to trust someone who’s hurt you. But from what I’ve seen– Lena’s not going anywhere. She’s still here, and would move heaven and earth to keep you safe.”
Kara sits silently for a long moment, eyes glued to where the screen has paused, with the jagged point of the kryptonite dagger perilously close to Lena’s throat. Where Lena fixes Acrata with an implacable stare that seems to say me first.
“I need to go,” Kara stammers finally, rising onto shaking legs. Alex nods in understanding, and the next thing KAra knows she’s standing in front of Lena’s apartment door. She stands there for an interminable moment, before her hand finally lifts and raps a hesitant knock against the surface.
It takes a moment, but finally the deadbolt slides back and the door opens, revealing Lena in soft yoga pants and a loose t-shirt that’s slipped off one shoulder.
“Kara,” Lena greets in a low voice. Her hair is loose around her shoulders, and she runs a hand through it self-consciously. “Is everything okay?”
Kara takes a deep breath, and dives.
“Can we talk?”

fountain pens for each of the superfriends ready set go!!!
How dare you merge two hyperfixations into the perfect inbox bait that cannot be ignored. Shame on you. ALRIGHT LET'S DO IT.
In this universe everybody uses fountain pens because why the heck not.
I think I covered a couple of these before, but let's ignore all of that and start anew(ish). We'll take it one at a time because it's a LOT.
spoiler alert I got tired and didn't include a bunch I had thought of so welp
Lena Luthor: Pelikan Souverän Anthracite
Tumblr media
We've been over this one, even if I've gone back and forth on several pens for Lena, but this is always one of my favourites. This is the perfect CEO-style pen to wag over Clark Kent's face when he brings up the 'Ah, but it's not, it's Luthor' thing. Perfect placeholder for the blue pen she inevitably gets later for. Reasons.
Kara Danvers: Karas Kustoms
Tumblr media
Listen, just the perfect name aside (yes, this is a real brand!), I feel like Kara would need something sturdy, nigh indestructible, for the obvious reasons. Maybe the DEO could arrange for one of these made of N metal or whatever that's called.
Alex Danvers: Pilot Vanishing Point (matte black)
Tumblr media
Alex doesn't have time for your shit, my shit, or anyone's shit because she's got too much shit going on with a superhero sister, a dubious government organization, aliens, and being a big ol' gay. She does not have time for this capping and uncapping nonsense, so she gets a clicky fountain pen for optimum efficiency. Additionally, I like to think that Alex, like me, would also click this thing incessantly because who needs therapy when you have a clicky pen?!
J'onn J'onnz: Diplomat Elox Green/Black
Tumblr media
OK, I have no backstory for this one. This pen just looked COOL. I feel like it fits both DEO J'onn and the Martian Manhunter. Though I guess when he becomes a private eye he switches to something more understated, like a Schon DSGN Black Ultem.
Nia Nal: Pilot Metropolitan (Retro Pop)
Tumblr media
These are just fun. Nia's fun. That's pretty much my rationale for it. I also think she'd have a whole bunch of them (since they're excellent but inexpensive!) to collect all colours (and because she keeps misplacing them). At first I thought Nia would collect all the Lamy Safari colours, but these seemed to suit her better. At some point Lena gifts her a Sailor Pro Gear special edition (something colorful, naturally!)
Brainy: Lamy 2000 (stainless Steel)
Tumblr media
Brainy will never admit he likes fountain pens (he keeps saying he's far too advanced for such a primitive thing) but he falls in love with the modern/futuristic design of the Lamy 2000 and has to sheepishly ask Nia to recommend some cool inks to go with it.
She gives him bright pink and they both love it. All DEO memos are pink thereafter.
Kelly Olsen: Sailor Pro Gear (Green)
Tumblr media
I kept going back and forth over several options, but finally landed on this pen because I get the feeling Kelly would take a ton of notes professionally, so she would need a) a professional pen and b) a comfortable nib. She'd be very methodical with her note-taking and Alex would drive her bonkers with her incessant clicking with the Pilot!
Hope you enjoyed this insanity, sorry I gave up. But here you are, Super Pen Friends edition!

If you were to rewrite any season of Supergirl which one would it be and what kind of changes would you make?
Ooh, this is a super fun question! I’m tempted to say Season 6 right off the bat, because we all know my feelings on that gosh-awful shoddy excuse of a finale, but that’s a lazy answer so I’m just going to take that disaster out of consideration and focus on the rest.
The first three seasons were actually pretty solid, in my opinion. My favorite was Season One; the show just had this goofy, fun, comic-book vibe that got lost when it moved to the CW and never really came back, but 2 and 3 actually weren’t bad. It’s the last three seasons where things went off the rails, and if I had to pick a worst offender, it would probably be Season 4. Season 5 at least had a couple redeeming moments (and some instances where Kara remembered she possesses a backbone and put her foot down about a certain somebody’s BS). But Season 4? I can remember almost none of any of it. Literally. None. It’s a blank void in my head. Things happened, but I couldn’t tell you what or how or why anyone should care.
So yeah. I’d pick that season to fix. As for how I’d fix it, I think a big part of where Season 4 went wrong is that it was the point where the show started trying to do too much. It got super preachy and political and forgot that most people were watching it for a fun, goofy superhero show that wasn’t as off-the-wall as Legends but also not as grimdark as Flash and Arrow were getting. Not to mention that it tossed in a bajillion characters who didn’t really need to be there at the expense of the ones that the audience already cared about. If I had my way, I’d lose the Legion thing- I love the Legion, but that plot went nowhere- and keep Mon-El around. One criticism that SCs love to make that I actually agree with is that the show spent too much time on Kara’s relationship drama, even after Mon-El was gone. And that’s because the writers were way too obsessed with the “having it all” thing. If you ask me, the question should never have been whether Kara could have it all, that’s sexist and dumb and I hate it because no one ever asked that about Barry or Oliver or any of the male heroes, but how she was going to have it all, how she was going to take all the different sides of herself and build the life she wanted out of them. I think a good step towards that would be to give Kara a stable partner who supports her and is in her corner no matter what, and leave the romantic side there. This wasn’t a romance show and it never should have been treated like one (and that includes insane shippers who look at everything including the actors through their headcanon goggles).
As for the rest of the season? I think the show really needed to tighten up and focus on the bonds between its core characters. We can keep Nia, we can keep Brainy if we really have to, I’d even like to have Winn back as long as he had a decent storyline and wasn’t just there for the sake of expositioning and cracking jokes. And for heaven’s sake, find someone who knows how to use James properly. But all the other random characters who were thrown on board? J’onn’s brother, Agent Liberty, Red Daughter, Colonel Whatever Her Name Was, get rid of them. Some of them were cool concepts, but the way it was executed was either too preachy or just too much. The show didn’t have enough breathing room to explore anybody well because it had to keep so many balls in the air. I would have liked to see a different, smaller-scale threat be the “big bad” of the season, something that really tested the bonds of the Superfriends and forced them to figure out who they are and how they still fit together with all the changes they were going through. There was so much untapped potential in that team that never went anywhere because the show was too busy tossing in everything but the kitchen sink. Maybe we could see some of James grappling with the new fears that come with being a hero in his own right instead of a sidekick. Maybe we could see more of Nia as Kara’s protege, because that really got lost. Maybe we could get a glimpse into all the emotional trauma that Winn has going on under his permanent comic-relief-ing. Maybe we could even find a way for Brainy not to be so incredibly annoying, although that one might be pushing it. I just really would have liked to see a season that quieted things down a little and narrowed its focus to really showing us who its core characters are and what makes them such a good team. I think the show could have really benefited from taking a breather from the world-ending threats and giving us a chance to get to know the characters on a deeper level before the next near-apocalypse came along.
As for the Luthors, I’m just going to come right out and say it. CLOSE THAT CHAPTER ALREADY. Lex was a really, really good antagonist, but that whole saga just went on far too long, and Season 4 is where Lena went from “oh great, here’s this girl again” to “I’m so sick of seeing her stupid face.” Just figure out how to close that chapter and move on to something else, preferably after putting Lex back where he belongs as Clark’s nemesis instead of Kara’s, and taking away whatever golden get-out-of-jail-free card Lena was holding and introducing her to the concept of consequences. The Luthor thing was just milked for all it was worth, and Season 4 was where it became infuriating to watch. Ideally, I would have liked to see the Luthors bow out in the first few episodes of the season, and that smaller-scale threat I mentioned take their place for the rest of it. I think Season 4 really just needed to clean house and get rid of the extra stuff, and spend some real quality time with the characters who made the show great to begin with.
Holy cow, this is on its way to being a dissertation. But it was a really fun question to answer! It made me want to start up my Random Ramblings again; between my fic-writing and being a theater major in the middle of show season, I’ve really fallen off the wagon there. Thanks for asking this, lovely friend!

Supergirl 6x07 Fear Knot
For the longest time, the award for the most self sabotaging show went to the X-Files. Refuse to act on stellar chemisty? Make the characters fit the plot? Hide the main plot and then disregard it? Give no time to the trauma characters endure? Make everything about a white guy that really should stay dead? It's all here. The showrunners may try and make the actresses look bad by praising scenes in upcoming episodes only to cut them out, but the blame lies firmly in the drifting filler decisions of whoever thought this was okay to write and film, not just this episode but the whole of 6A. Where's the consistency, the emotional through line, the plot that's about Kara? Where's the excitement, the emotional payoff for six years of build up... to what?
The plus points of this episode are David Harewood's third time directing, where atmospheric and off kilter framing portray the sense of the Phantom Zone. Another plus point is everyone's stellar acting with whatever material they are given. They have the range but it's seldom stretched by the script (take the grass, anyone?). Dansen rocked this episode, though I am concerned that it's only been a week in show time that Alex asked Kelly to move in with her, as we've had three days waiting for Nia and Brainy to come back from 2009 Midvale.
That's about it for the good points. The episode resetting itself every few minutes felt like a microcosm of the show, and as such there's no emotional consistency for me to follow. All these fear scenarios happened in isolation, and it's unlikely the characters will ever talk to the other characters about what scared them the most. Lena and Nia had the most consistent fear. Nia fears her slow interpretation of dreams will get Brainy killed. Lena is still dealing with family baggage of survivor's guilt with her mother drowning. This was previously only known by a volunteer for a science project that promptly died (season 4), but it adds to the audience's feelings that Lena would rather drown by being dropped into a reservoir than harm children (season 3), and the self torture of Titanic being her favourite film.
The men were unaffected by the fear, for the sexism. J'onn saves the ship. Brainy has a new analogy of compartmentalised feelings, replacing little boxes with balloons waiting to pop. It does make sense as he temprarily made himself forget Kara's identity when interrogated by the truth seeker. Personally I would have thought J'onn's biggest fear would be abandoning his found family, the way he escaped White Martian occupation. I would have thought Brainy's biggest fear is turning into his ancestors and bottling planets. But hey, we're only going to torture women. Kelly shows the greatest emotional strength, recognising it's a dream thanks to her mental health specialist training and picking up a 'guardian' shield to protect the women she loves. It's a pity Alex won't know about the depths Kelly loves her. Lena is the second most adept at overcoming fear, by showing her kelpie folklore nightmare compassion. Nia doesn't recognise all of the dream as such, and it's just her and Brainy in the end. Alex is so far gone that she self-sacrifices to save those she loves, so her biggest fear is being a compromising element to the superfriends, specifically being unable to save Kara and protect Kelly.
The episode is a similar set up to the 100th, where we have four scenarios with high emotions ultimately for naught, as in the final moments Kara does something unrelated to what the audience has seen for 40 minutes. If the 100th was a treat about the world being fundamentally altered depending on how Supercorp get on, being sabotaged by Kara given an emotionally damaged woman an ultimatum of "forgive me for treating you badly or I'll leave you to your family abusers". This episode was an exploration of the supporting ladies having none of their deepest fears involve Kara, because she's not shown, not even in GCI watery outline. This is in contrast to the previous episodes where people have gone to emotional extremes to get Kara back from the Phantom Zone, with Brainy breaking down and comfort eating, to Nia getting despondent about her dream interpretation, to Lena ready to sacrifice the world to repopulating phantoms to get Kara back, to Alex and J'onn having to rely on their military training to keep it together. Six episodes of build up, to have four 10 minute segments unrelated to Kara, with the exception of J'onn and Alex arguing about who is her touchstone early on.
Yet, even this is disregarded as Zor-El becomes her hope speech. The guy has barely had screen time, and previously his stone function was being a dead weight I couldn't wait for Kara to cast off. This guy made the Medusa virus, was married to someone who sent innocent people to an indefinite torture, only thought of saving his hometown rather than challenge bureaucracy to stop environmental degredation, thought his daughter would be fine as a teenage parent on an alien planet. He gets a longer hug than any reunion with the superfriends, and it's only Alex that gets a half second hug that was apparently cut and originally included J'onn. The reason given was the sense of urgency of the Phantom Zone island being ripped apart by the anchor, but I remember Mon-El having a prolonged goodbye scene when he should have died from coughing lead. Given any opportunity, the show will make things about men, especially white men. The trailer to tide us through the hiatus was framed around Zor-El acclimatising to Earth, with a blurry background prescense of William Dey, the show killer. It's season 2 all over again, the comedic relief eroding Kara's progress. He should be sent to Argo immediately, so the show can be about Kara, and unpacking her trauma.
There's been filming spotted this week of Katie McGrath with Staz Nair. She's holding a battered book that an audience looking for consistency has dubbed the folklore book Lena's mother read to her as a pre-four year old. Worst case scenrario, William's presence with Lena may be them romantically dating, as it's not the first time Lena's had Kara's romantic cast offs.
Want a Supercorp parallel? While Kara's been in the Phantom Zone (around the Nyxly hijinx) she's told us her biggest fear is people she loves dying because of her. Lena and the audience actually see all of the superfriends die. Want another parallel? Both Kara and Lena are saved by their parents. Another? Nia's supersuit was made by her romantic partner Brainy, and Lena makes Kara's suped up suits. Nia and Lena really big on bonding over their dead mothers and how lucky they are to have their found family, for the audience at least as I think it falls into the individual dreams. Indirectly, Kara's called Lena family as that's what she says upon seeing the sun bomb and Lena created it.
The show is really not being subtle about sci-fi and fantasy references this season, with Harry Potter and Alien nods abound. It's like they decided they wouldn't follow through on anything they created regarding Kara and women, and hoped we'd appreciate being reminded that other shows do far better.
Apparently Kara really doesn't have to worry about leaving Earth unprotected as M'Gann is doing it by herself. And if J'onn was immune to the Phantom Zone, then he could have gone on his own without subjecting everyone else to their isolated fears.
Kinda concerned that the canon romances got killed in the fear dreams - both Brainy and Alex get blown out an airlock while their queer partner watches helplessly. Glad M'Gann wasn't here for that.
I want to know what it's like to live next to the Tower. Do you think they take bets as to what's happening next? People fly out of it, spaceships pull up to the balcony, and now the whole top section flies off and disappears into a dimensional portal. Said portal is opened by Lena as a sign of trust to use the projector. This bonding by Lena with the superfriends is appreciated. Though the DEO blew up so I don't know how she got the plans or equipment for the sun grenades (season 2) to make the sun bomb. Everyone's got magic money stashes, and Nia's had a three day absence from CatCo without reprimand.
Gonna be a long wait until August.

All Over Again - Chapter 1
Summary: What was lost can be found. - DC & Marvel AU
Pairings: Lena x Reader ; Implied Natasha x Reader ; Platonic!Avengers x Reader ; Platonic!Superfriends x Reader
Warning: 18+ Smut, Language, Violence
* * * * * *
Sighing, you splay yourself out on the grass, looking up at the distorted view of the sky as the red leaves of the tree above you sway. The gentle breeze sends a chill over your skin but it’s much too calming for you to move.
“Am I going to have to start carrying jackets around with me again?”
The familiarly sultry voice meets your ears over the sounds of nature. It makes your heart thump faster like it always had but this time an ache accompanies it. Her joking tone holds an underlying nervousness and you have to resist the urge to scoff at the drastic change in your conversations together.
You could never forget the moment everything shifted. Your entire relationship with Natasha fell to pieces. All the love and trust that had grown stronger each year that you were together seemed to mean nothing to her suddenly.
Months on the run from the U.S. government, planning your futures together, it blew to hell in literal seconds.
Everything you’d grown to know and love was pulled out from underneath you with three simple words: Hi, Bruce. Followed by the awkward pause and nervous, Nat.
Hope rose in your girlfriend’s eyes and you were unsure why. The main reason being that you were recruited by Fury during the Sokovia incident. You never met the infamous Bruce Banner turn Hulk, and didn't know about his history with your girl. And Natasha hadn’t found it necessary to tell you about it either.
Which left you in the dark and completely blindsided by Natasha’s decision to end things with you. Simply telling you she owed it to herself to see where things with Bruce went. And you being the person you are and loving Natasha the way that you do, you wanted her to be happy despite your heartbreak.
All of that rested on your shoulders at the same time that Thanos appeared. Your broken heart seemed to shatter further when you lost your best friend Wanda and the many friends you’d gained.
For five years you hurt. Grieving your lost friends and dealing with your broken heart. It seemed as though Natasha breaking up with you wasn’t even worth it as Banner left after Thanos and they didn’t see each other for five years.
Even after the five years though, you still were coping with your heartbreak despite the Avengers having gotten rid of Thanos for good. As you then had the privilege of seeing Natasha and Bruce together. And you could admit that they look good together, happy.
Which means you need to find your own. You just aren’t sure how.
You take a deep breath and look up at the redhead who’s watched you in your silence.“ I hadn’t planned on staying out here long so I didn’t grab one.” You respond, deciding to ignore her not so subtle hint at your relationship and personal quirk.
Jackets are just the last thing you think about before you leave out and Natasha used to take it upon herself to bring one for you whenever you were with her.
She smiles tightly and nods,“ okay. Well I was just coming to let you know that Steve and Bucky are almost done with dinner.”
When you nod in answer Natasha waits, silently debating if she wanted to say anything else or not, but chose not to and finally walked away. You waited a few extra minutes before pushing yourself up and heading toward the compound.
As you’re walking up to the door, your red leather clad friend lands beside you, her magic vanishing from her hands before she flings her arms around you.
“Hello to you too.” You chuckle, hugging her back.
Wanda smiles brightly,“ hi.”
A small smile of your own hitting your lips. You’d missed the young woman as she was away on a mission with Sam. They weren’t far, just on the East Coast, but they’d been gone for a week, which was more than enough for you to begin to miss her.
Before either of you step into the building, she grabs your hand and laces your fingers together, gently tugging you off to the side. Soft light green eyes stare back sympathetically,“ how are you?”
“Wan-” you sigh, running a hand up and through your hair.
“I’m just worried about you.” A little pout hits her lips followed by a joking smile,“ and I’m kind of the only reason you’re sane.”
You throw your head back with a laugh. Then shaking your head and wrapping an arm around her shoulders,“ I’m fine Wanda. Thank you for the concern and sanity.”
Placing a quick kiss to her temple, you guide her into the building, more than happy to have your best friend back.
Like Natasha had told you, Steve and Bucky already have the table set and everyone is sitting around. No matter how hard you try, your gaze finds Bruce and Natasha, the man leans over to say something to her and a cute smile rises, reminding you of the one you’d caused her to have before.
A squeeze of your hand pulls your eyes away and you nod to Wanda before sitting down beside her. Usual chatter circles the table, Sam and Wanda talking a bit about the mission briefly, and then asking all of you about what’s been going on.
By the end of dinner you’re a mix of annoyed and happy. Your friends had made you laugh and smile just like usual, except every time you got lost in the joy of it all you forgot what was across from you and your gaze caught the image of Natasha and Bruce flirting, laughing, and smiling. It makes you so upset that you still wish it were you with her.
It’s been six years! What happens to time heals all wounds? Was that just a load of shit? Would you genuinely have to deal with being all bitter and jealous for the rest of your life.
“Welp,” you smack your hands to your thighs,“ Steve, Buck, dinner was incredible, thank you, but I have a few things I need to attend to so if you’ll excuse me.” Standing, you grab your plate and glass.
“Not so fast Y/Ln,” his voice rings clear not but a second after you walked away.“ You’re all here for once so I’d like to inform you that you’ll all be attending the Stark Industries Investment dinner tomorrow night.” Tony smiles, eyes crinkling in the corners.
Your eyes narrow,“ what exactly would the Avengers be doing for your companies investors.”
“Persuading, encouraging, indulging. Investors would kill to hear mission stories and about all your equipment.” His tone is sweet, as if he’s trying to convince you all to come.
A party/dinner isn’t exactly what you’re feeling up to right now. And quite frankly it’s not necessary for every Avenger to show up.
From the looks of Steve’s face he isn’t going but you still have a bit of hope that is, until he speaks up,“ Bucky and I have a mission.”
Tony gives an expectant gaze to the rest of you.
“I’m always down to party.” Sam shrugs nonchalantly before returning to his food, pretty sure this is his third plate.
Bruce sighs,“ I’m under the impression that this isn’t an option for me.”
Tony’s grimace is answer enough, but he still says,“ it is not. Also, no offense, probably don’t show up all big and green. The venue is large but-”
“Ah ah ah I got it.” The big green man waves his hand, then smiling down at Natasha,“ mind accompanying me?” She instantly smiles and nods and that small little gesture is enough for you to head out.
Further, Tony goes,“ Maximoff?”
And Wanda responds,“ I’ll only go if Y/n does.”
Dammit Wanda!
Turning on your heel, you have every intention of saying no. Only to find her giving you that damn pout, followed by her whispering,“ please.”
“Alright whatever.”
With that you leave, cleaning your dishes, and then going straight to bed. In the morning you take extra care to avoid Natasha, you eat while she’s in the gym, only going to train after she’s long gone, and eating lunch on the roof with Wanda.
You make it as far as into the venue for the Investment dinner before you have to see her again. Even then you wish you were blind.
God she’s beautiful. It’s criminal the way that dress fits on her. And just as your eyes trail up her long legs and over the curves of her body to her piercing green eyes, her looking back at you pulls you to reality.
You no longer have the right to look at her that way. No matter how good she looks, you can’t look at her like that. No, the man beside her is the only person who carries that privilege.
“I’m gonna need a drink to get through this.” You sigh, beeligning for the bar instead of your seat.
Wanda sticks close to you, definitely having seen your staring.
Leaning against the bar, you wait for the bartender to come your way, then asking for an old-fashioned and you wait. Beside you, Wanda’s eyes flicker over the room, a nervousness in them.
“Hey,” you nudge her arm with your elbow,“ I’d say it’s not that bad but it is.” The young woman’s eyebrows raise but you wave it off,“ you just have to put up with most people speaking to you like you know less because you make less. Other than that it’s alright.”
As she takes in your words, you accept your drink from the bartender and hand Wanda a flute of champagne. She’s not a drinker but the little boost is needed.
With a reassuring smile to her and the last swig of your drink and guide her through the scattered crowd to Pepper. The blonde is more than happy to walk Wanda around, introducing her to a few people while you make rounds on your own.
Just like usual, most conversations revolve around everyone else’s business, or the occasional question about your work that you can’t even discuss. But you manage to do as Tony asked, impressing them with talks of your abilities and that of which you can disclose.
Majority of the people you talk to take a liking to you, or at least the superhero you, and you convince them to invest in Stark Industries, giving the whole “a company that leads in medical and technological advancements” spiel.
“Still hate these things huh.”
Breathing in deeply, you exhale and turn to face Natasha. Her green eyes watch you cautiously and you’re in genuine disbelief that the badass Black Widow is so wary of you. Since the breakup she’s interacted with you as if she’s afraid you’ll hurt her.
You lick your lips,“ Natasha you speak to me like you don’t know me anymore.”
A sigh falls from her lips and she looks down at the bracelet on her wrist,“ I know. I’m sorry I just- I don’t want to say anything I shouldn’t.”
“Right,” you scoff lowly.“ You don’t have to worry about my feelings anymore I promise.”
“Y/n I-”
“Nat.” Bruce approaches, completely oblivious to the awkward tension flowing between you and his girlfriend.“ I’m sorry, do you mind if I steal her away for a moment.”
You smile bitterly,“ oh she is all yours.”
Green eyes look at you with an unreadable emotion but you brush it off, walking away with a glance back that reveals Bruce twirling the redhead on to the dance floor.
You square your shoulders with a deep inhale and head back to the one place that you’ve been able to breathe tonight.
“Another old fashioned please.” The lady nods and quickly makes the drink and you smile in thanks.
Taking a long swig from the dark liquor, you sigh contentedly at the burning trail down your throat. Your few seconds of peace interrupted by a deep voice speaking cockily.
“A beautiful girl like yourself drinking dark liquor leads me to believe you’re not enjoying yourself.” The man smiles brightly showing off his, no doubt surgically whitened, teeth.“ Perhaps I could change that for you.”
Narrowing your eyes at him, you pointedly down the rest of the drink, and tap the bartop in call for another.“ Bold of you to assume that I’m not having a good time.”
Before he can reply with his planned flirtatious remark, a lightly accented soft voice joins in,“ I’m sure Mister Richards meant no harm, he’s just a rather presumptuous man.” Her statement has you turning back to see who it came from.
Your eyes meeting the most gorgeous woman you’d ever seen. A sentiment you didn’t think you’d ever make after Natasha.
Her black hair pulled back into a neat ponytail, not a single strand falling loose. Beautiful light green eyes stare back accompanied by a red lipped white tooth smile.
In your daze of taking in her appearance you miss what she says to Mister Richards, but it sends him away, leaving the two of you alone.
“Um, forgive me for this, no doubt, repetitive question but, what company are you here representing?” Your eyes subconsciously trail down the line of her jaw and it’s incredibly hard to draw your attention away when she speaks.
“Luthor Corp.” Her lips turn up into an almost knowing smile and it has you quickly looking up into her eyes, heart pounding when you realize you’d been caught staring at her lips.“ I’m Lena Luthor.”
Clearing your throat, you hold your hand out to her,“ Y/n.” You expected a warm hand but while it’s soft, it’s fairly cold.“ Thanks for the save Miss Luthor.” Your hand returns to your glass, the chill of it like that of her hand.
“It was nothing, I could tell from across the bar he’d said something you didn’t like.” She makes mention.
You grimace, a soft chuckle falling after,“ you’ll have to forgive me, controlling my expression isn’t a mastered craft as of yet.”
She waves you off, casually leaning her side against the bar as her drink is sat down,“ it takes years, I’m still working on it. Come to enough of these and you’ll get it.”
“Oh I’ve been to plenty,” her eyebrow quivers at that,“ I’ve just never been good at. . .lying. No offense to you in any way, I think you’re ability to deal with all this social-”
“Bullshit.” She finishes for you with a chuckle.
Nodding, you laugh as well,“ yeah that. It’s a true superpower Miss Luthor, and of my many, that is not one.”
“Superpower is a stretch.”
Your eyes narrow at her, a small smirk on your lips,“ something tells me it isn’t.”
Throughout your continued conversation, her charm and genuine goodness radiates off of her. The woman listens intently to you speak, she makes you laugh, and indulges all your questions with zealous passion.
As the night goes on neither of you find much entertainment outside of your little space at the bar. Not wanting to go home inebriated, you’d long since switched your liquor for plain club sodas, Lena suggesting the addition of cherry grenadine just for flavor.
“The idea is brilliant, which I’m sure you know, I just think it has more potential than power storage. What if you used it as a power core instead.” You shrug simply.
Lena’s hand halts in movement, the drink in her cup sloshing slightly as the action,“ that’s genius. But it wouldn’t be easy. I’ve toyed with alien energy before, it’s much more powerful than expected.”
“Which, I think, makes it all the more useful. Depending on how strong, you could power an entire village or a small town. Imagine giving small pieces of the core to third world countries.”
An amused smile tugs at her lips for the nth time tonight,“ is your first thought always to help others or is that just the Avenger in you?”
You chuckle,“ myself and the hero. I just don’t see why we wouldn’t use the knowledge and resources we obtain, alien and human, to help those who truly need it.”
Lena’s mouth opens in preparation for her next reply, however it doesn’t come as a body weakly collides with yours. Wide eyed you look over to see your best friend, obviously drunk, leaning on you.
“I’ve been looking for you everywhere. You have to try the strawberry cake thingies.” Wanda tugs at your arm in a childlike manner.
Frowning in Lena’s direction, the CEO shrugs. Gentle grabbing Wanda’s shoulders, you turn her to face you,“ what strawberry cake?”
She smiles,“ the ones on the tray Y/n. The servers are walking around with- oO right here.” Fast as lightning, her hand shoots out and she grabs a small plate off the servers tray. Three little white chocolate truffles sit on it with milk chocolate drizzled over.“ Try.”
“O-” your reply cuts when she shoves a piece in your mouth. As good as it is, your eyes widen for an entirely different reason. Your tongue runs over your bottom lip as if to ensure you’re tasting what you’re tasting.“ Wan, how many of these have you eaten?”
Her hand raises to show three of her fingers.
Yep. The small woman ate nine strawberry champagne truffles. She’s drunk.
Lena, wanting to understand, retrieves one of the truffles and bites into. Her response is the same as yours.
With an apologetic smile you look at her,“ I hate to cut the conversation short but I should probably get her home.”
“Of course of course. Hopefully we’ll be able to continue sometime.” She smiles sweetly and you nod.
After a short wave to her, you gather yours and Wanda’s things, and leave the building.
“Y/n!”
You freeze in step, tightening your hold on Wanda’s waist and pushing your free hand into your pocket, then turning to the source of the voice.
Pepper takes the stairs quickly but with all the grace of a trained performer. She stops on the same step as you and smiles a little.“ I had to catch you before you left, Lena Luthor wanted me to give you this, and let you know that she’s expecting you at Luthor Corp soon.”
A slight frown pulls your eyebrows closer together as you stare down at the business card, her personal number scrawled on the back,“ did she say why?” Pepper simply shakes her head.
Truthfully she hadn’t been expecting Lena to approach her about you. Mainly because she had no idea the two of you met, she swore she’d introduced you to every investor there tonight.
“Okay, how soon is soon?”
An apprehensive smile tugs at her lips, brows raised slightly,“ four days.”

Gloria, Jet-lags and Imps [6x11]
Tumblr media
Let’s jump right in:
Kinda love how Kara lamp-shaded addressed the fact she didn't tell the gang about her adventures in the PZ. She’s not wrong, tho.
...what do I want to say about Mxy using what's basically a well-known gay-anthem to tell his tale? I mean, it didn’t lead anywhere. The original song is about freeing oneself, liberation, stepping out of a (gone bad) relationship and moving on, stronger for it - empowerment. The only connection I could make, is that originally it was Nyxly’s aim to just do that (freeing herself and her kind from an oppressor), but in the way Mxy performed it, that part of the parallel was long over before he even reached the chorus. It’s also a popular Karaoke song, tho, so... he chose it because it’s catchy? I’ll try not to overthink it for now. At least, the Superfriend’s reactions were fun.
Nia exiting the elevator, "And what's this Old Stone?" I love it when ppl enter a room / situation and pick up on words that they couldn't have possibly heard. I think cinema sins ding such... Are we to assume, she dreamed Mxy's rendition of ‘I will survive’? Or is the elevator not sound-proof at all? (If it’s the latter, Nia later apparently telling Brainy “in private” between scenes / during the elevator ride about her Nyxly adventures, was a silly thing to do.)
So, "Jared" created the ring Old Stone to rule them all, it got shattered into the Paragons totems? Nyxly needs the totems and to get them she needs a crystal which also belonged to "Jared" - who happens to be Mxy's ancestor, which is why she needs Mxy / his blood, too.
I have one important and incredibly relevant question here, tho...
With the introduced imps and their names... Why’s dude named Jared of all things?!
Really, did I mishear that? If so, I’ll leave it as is and never edit, bc that would be hilarious in its own right 😋
...
Not sure what to make about Supergirl paraphrasing a Dirty Dancing quote.  "Nobody puts Mxy into a power crystal on my watch."  ...is he Baby now? (Seriously, though: Which of the writers thought that was a fitting quote to use in that particular context?)
...now, is the exposition section of the episode over yet?
Tumblr media
Sensitive Brainy sensed something was up with Nia. He can relate... Nia doubting Kara would understand, too, is ridiculous. But I get it... insecurities and all. But, I mean, just 5 minutes later Kara announces she wants to save Nyxly despite her wrongdoings. And yet Nia still remains convinced, Kara wouldn’t forgive her own personal mini-me... After having witnessed Kara forgiving Lena for a whole season of the writers being stupid messing up to the nth degree. But I digress, Lena’s Lena.
...how old is Nia meant to be again? Just asking out of completely unrelated curiosity.
Tumblr media
F*ck. They really went with NewFoundland...
Imma assume it was an executive choice after realizing they couldn’t find enough actors and actresses with a convincing Irish accent... maybe. Again, no offense to Newfoundland! Just... we got the insinuations of Ireland, not Newfoundland... And truthfully, when I think of magic, Ireland is an easy association. Whereas I only due to this whole debacle learned Newfoundland has Irish ancestry. So, okay, the show forced me to learn something new... I give ‘em that.
An easy journey, she said.
Lena's been off-screen for two whole episodes, Kara announcing at the beginning of ‘Dreamweaver’ [6x09] Lena being “back east” (at least insinuating Lena’s left the west-coast already), which span over at least one full day (feat. a scene at night), and ‘I still rise’ [6x10] at least another a whole day (the whole Nia’s mom back for a day deal). And, now, after at least 48 hours she barely just arrived.
Lemme check how long a regular plane would need to fly from California to NFL......... ... .. .. So... approx. 10 hours with at least one layover.
Yeah, using a private jet made it easier, but apparently also much, much slower...
Or, Lena randomly went some other places / did some sight-seeing in NFL before she decided to finally visit her mother’s hometown...  [Either that or the timelines don’t match up and Lena’s scenes are flashbacks of sorts.]
Tumblr media
Optimistic and relaxed Lena is a sight to behold. I rewound 3 times, just to enjoy it for as long as possible. We all knew it was going to be short-lived...
Let’s check off a few more items...
OMG, Kara hiding behind Alex at the mere sight of the PZ-projector broke my heart!  😢
"Elisabeth Walsh" is the new 'the one you shall not name'. ...poor Lena. 😭
Oh, so Mxy wants to be Patrick Swayze instead of Baby... gotcha.
...is this going anywhere?
KITTY!!! Okay, this must be the best opponent in the history of CWSG.
Despite the horrible CGI, SG using her heat-vision to project a laser-beam to distract the cat had me in (happy-) tears! 🤣
Tumblr media
Gotta love the civilians of National City quickly returning to business as usual once the giant cat is gone. Even the police officers looked rather chill...
Nyxly did look fabulous this episode ^^
Andrea being Lena's rock is both great and annoying. I can't fault Andrea. It's just, that we still have to see an on-screen interaction between Lena and Kara and that bugs the heck out of me. I can’t help it. I’m sorry, Andrea.
Nia: "...is my fault." Kara: "Nu, is MY fault!" J'onn: "Stop fighting, kids!" Space-dad has spoken.
Mxy used an LuthorCorp copy machine... and of cos it's faulty. It's not an L-Corp product.
Kara forgiving Nia came as a surprise to her... Oooookay. I mean, the show has been writing Kara a bit inconsistently the past two seasons... so, yeah, maybe being unsure which of her traits apply this week was not such a far stretch...
Tumblr media
Maybe it's the hair, but I wished, Florence was played by Alex Kingston.
So, not-Alex-Kingston shows Lena herself with a funny wig and tells her how her mother was still watching her...
If it wasn't for Katie's acting skills (I love her.) I would have already hit my head against the wall repeatedly. Something about these scenes had me constantly cringe and I made it through 5.5 seasons of this show already... Can’t quite put my finger on it, but it was highly distracting from the story that explained Lena’s mom was special even to another witch, where there was domestic abuse, and an accidental murder. Y’know, important stuff, deep-cutting stuff!
At least, poor widddle Lena got some closure there. Elisabeth was a good cookie. And filled with magic. And Lena’s gotta have that ‘spark’, too...
....so... Lena’s gonna stay in NFL for how much longer, to train becoming a witch?  Please, just hand her a how-to manual and send her back home, to figure it out on her own, please... (Yes, that would be horrible decision-making, but I need her back with the team!)
On to the finish line:
So... Mxy IS Nyxly's brother? Wait, that doesn’t sound right... then Nyxly would have the same blood... Did I miss something? Can someone explain, please? Or is he her ex, and that’s where his rendition of “I will survive” makes sense?
Hnn... I can't help, but think Kara's speech for Nyxly was 85% based on her experiences with Lena in s05.
Awww... he said "stronger together"... Mxy... I hope, you'll be okay!
Lena believes in magic now. And I absolutely love how Lena wants to science magic XD
...but apparently magic isn’t science that hasn’t been explained yet, but parallel... powers? concepts? ether strings?
Nyxly has a loyal henchman now. Which was a bit heavy-handed. Took way too much of screen-time, so it better leads to something interesting.
And Kara is on a warpath now. Wooooot! Girl’s got enough.
...what else?
Did I miss a third Patrick Swayze hint / quote / mention?  I learned, these things come in threes... Y’know, basic writing rules...
I guess, for once the episode title was meant to be taken literally, Mxy popping up between characters, to try and help. (I need in-show footage, of Mxy sneaking up on ppl, without his powers, on all fours / crouched, just to get the desired effect.) I mean, I’ve never really watched Malcom, but wasn’t he like what Mxy usually is? A bit of a trouble-maker, prankster, chaos-ensuing wherever he goes? ...well, in that case, the episode title didn’t hold up, as Mxy’s scenes were not fun or really goofy. Yes, there was some superficial humor, but just to serve Mxy dealing with not being able to use his powers, which in turn was only barely scratched at (although it turned out to be his final character development crisis, appreciating not having powers and - in turn - facing consequences for once). Again, a whole lot going on in the episode, so a lot of that may have ended up on the cutting-room floor.
...where’s Kelly? Secretly adopting a kid, maybe?
...Kara’s still a reporter, right? I mean, whenever it serves the immediate plot, yes? ...Not even a throw-away line, that she has to pop up at CatCo for appearances sake? Since Andrea is already upset with her AND looking into her friends’ identities? At least, Kara should take a peek to make sure Andrea hasn’t uncovered anything yet... No?
Well, that’s all I’ve got for now. Kue out.

supercorp endgame?
I’m soooooo curious how the Supergirl writers are going to finish Kara & Lena’s story. It’s so obvious that Supercorp is an iconic fan favorite ship, and Kara has no love interest in sight and neither does Lena. They even crushed that short-lived William relationship (if you’d even call it that) after it was so poorly received. I know some people theorize Kenny will show up again, but if anything I felt like Kenny/Kara’s story almost mimicked Lena/Jack’s story which was that they were good guys from their past but their future was in National City (where Kara and Lena met!!). And now that all the drama breakup between Kara & Lena from last season has been resolved, there’s such an interesting air between them.
Even though at the moment, Kara’s adjusting back to her life post Phantom Zone, and Lena is headed back to research her bio mom, there seems to be a new relationship (secrets out, grudges be gone) between them that’s going to have to be explored at some point as the rest of this season progresses. Even though we didn’t get a lot before she left, they did make multiple references that Lena and Kara were keeping touch through the episodes even when they weren’t interacting ( “She’s in the fortress with her dad” “i just got off the phone with Kara” [“Lena’s not back yet from looking into her mom”]). And now that it’s teased that Lena may discover some *magic* powers and Kara is going to need some *magic* to save her, it’s hard not to put my clown nose on and think they’re leading to something here.
Even though, I truly doubt we’ll get anything outright (I imagine something more implied or a read-between-the-lines confession), I feel like they’re going to have to address their relationship at some point and even with all the resistance in keeping these two as “gal pals only”, it’s almost like these two were almost destined to be written together. Even if accidentally, you have the superfriends paired off: Alex and Kelly, Nia and Brainy, J’hon and M’gann (even if she’s in and out of the show) so Lena is by default Kara’s partner. Even with Mon El’s return (along with so many as it’s the series finale), I don’t even find that to be a threat because it would come across so last minute and Kara really seemed to put an end to that so many times and during the 100th I found them to be more chummy exes than hints of a rekindling. I mean, I can’t really trust theCW, but I feel like that would cause so much backlash and honestly anyone who is fan of that ship, I can’t imagine still being that invested in this show since he left. The ones still watching ARE the Supercorp fans, so why would you try to do something for an audience that isn’t even here anymore? Regardless, as a writer, you should care about writing a fitting ending for our hero and Mon El is not the ending this show feels like it’s gearing towards. For one, her dad was all about telling her to be more “human” and so how would be flying off to the future with a Daxamite be embracing being “human”....when having a human gf (with possible magic powers...) who already is someone that you feel human around? I also don’t see how separating Kara from her sister is a necessary thing either. Wouldn’t she want to spend time with her future nieces/nephews??  I just don’t know how they write themselves out of this, without embracing the ending that has been basically written for them.

Here are my thoughts on why Kara waited so long to tell Lena that she is Supergirl.
I know that Kara gave a lot of reasons, I think they were all partially true. The most consistent reason seems well intentioned enough: that it was to protect Lena. This is the one Lena ends up ultimately accepting. But it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Between Lena’s own enemies trying to assassinate her, and working closely with Alex and Kara as Supergirl, Lena’s life is always in jeopardy. In the 100th episode, the writers try to double down on this narrative when Kara tells Lena right at the beginning, she is kidnapped, Kara reveals her identity, and then all of the Superfriends die. Again, this doesn’t make much sense. It’s a possibility, of course, that Lena would be kidnapped and ransomed, but James and Winn were similarly vulnerable knowing Kara’s secret early on. They were lower profile than Lena, yes but they were also at that point less adept at saving themselves, as Lena has shown herself to be time and again. Also, had Lena known about Supergirl sooner, she could have gotten a watch to call Kara. If anything, Lena was in more jeapardy not knowing Kara’s identity.
Kara’s other go-to reason was that Lena was distrustful of Supergirl and loved Kara, so Kara wanted to separate the two parts of herself so she wouldn’t lose her best friend. This reason feels a little closer to the mark. As Supergirl, Kara was suspicious of Lena making Kryptonite and inadvertently put her in the villainous Luthor role. When I initially watched the scenes it gave me whiplash how Kara spoke to Lena as Supergirl vs. out of the suit. This isn’t a condemnation of Kara, it seems like in order to stay sane that Kara has had to compartmentalize her “Supergirl ego” and her “Kara” one. But then of course once Kara tells Lena who she is, Lena is baffled by the cognitive dissonance of Supergirl and Kara actually being the same person. She understandably fears that Kara saw her as a villain all along.
The other two major reasons Kara gives (one in a deleted scene) were that Kara felt like she had waited too long, and that a part of Kara didn’t actually trust Lena afterall. Because the scene was cut, who knows if the latter reason had any truth. But the first reason fits well enough with the others. Kara had good intentions, but time past, lies snowballed, and now the pair were three years into their friendship. And Kara knew that Lena had trust issues and didn’t do well with being lied to.
Here’s what I see as the missing part of the puzzle. Kara didn’t tell Lena because having one person, the person aside from her sister she is closest to, know her as just Kara, was Kara’s tie to feeling normal. Lena the-genius- CEO-Luthor knew Kara as a non-super journalist and loved her anyway. Most importantly though, Lena not knowing Kara had powers meant that Kara got to be vulnerable sometimes...sometimes Lena got to save her. And sure, Kara usually didn’t need it, and logistically would have to figure out how to save them without revealing herself (like landing the plane or stopping Mercy during her faceoff with Lena.) But still, Lena would put herself in front of Kara, take the reigns, and show Kara that she didn’t have to figure out everything on her own. This extends to not just during battles, but emotionally. Lena helped Kara up after altercations when Kara was used to propping herself up. Lena would specifically ask about Kara’s relationships with her other friends, family, and romantic partners, and in those moments Lena would treat those problems with the same level of importance as Lena taking down Lex or whatever issue of the week. Kara though has a tendency to put her “human” issues on the backburner to focus on the greater good, but Lena was her outlet to maintain that humanity, and have those other parts of her life remain priorities.
It’s too bad, because Lena also extended a lot of that grace and kindness to Kara as Supergirl. When one of Lillian’s henchman was harming Kara with Kryptonite, Lena still physically tried to intervene and said not to hurt her. Lena also knew that Supergirl wasn’t harming people (during the Red Daughter saga). There were plenty of other instances that Lena showed compassion for Supergirl and the only way I can wrap my brain around Kara not internalizing them are because Kara needed to maintain that separation for herself. I know that as an audience we’re past all of this now, but it still doesn’t sit entirely right with me that ultimately Lena apologized several times (when Kara made it seem like as long as Lena came back and apologized she would forgive her) but then she wasn’t initially forgiven. It also rubbed me the wrong way that Kara threatened to treat Lena “just like any other villain” even though Kara knew that being perceived as such was Lena’s greatest fear. It unsettled me further that Lena had to perform again and again in the finale. Between helping to save William, building Kara the suit, saving Kara’s life from Andrea etc. Kara said she kept waiting for Lena to let her down. But by that, did she mean by betraying Kara or by not performing and succeeding? (And again I think unintentionally Kara would feel that way.) But that line of dialogue really did leave me wondering because Lena could have done her best, and failed, and still very much have been sorry, but then would Kara have not forgiven her? I’d like to hope she would have, because if not, Lena performing for Kara’s validation isn’t too different than her trying to earn love from Lex and Lillian.
These are just ramblings. I know that Kara did her best, hell she tried to alter the timeline for Lena to salvage their relationship. But ultimately, Kara saw that because those instances failed that the takeaway was that she needed to play tough cop with Lena (and pretty much absolved herself of her own actions in the process) instead of holding onto the nuance of the situation. One of them didn’t have to be entirely right or wrong, and it would have been nice if after Lena’s third apology, if Kara would have said again, and “I’m sorry too. You deserved the truth. I know you’re not a monster.” Or hugged her. Or something. Oh well.

Beard analyzing anon here, bow to me and my awesome power!
I called it, this time and I called it last time that he’d return for the 100th episode judging from David’s “watch this space” and the Legacies beard and the MOTU beard and beards do not lie, people, and I can see what they say!  I have the gift of prophecy* and you should all bow to me and my infinite knowledge**, bwahahaha!
*okay, it’s not prophecy, just logical thinking based on facts*
**been watching too much Stargate SG-1, excuse me**
In all seriousness, this development came about on a day when I got absolutely slammed at work so I haven’t had full time to read/digest everything.  I said some things already, but here are my thoughts on what probably happened if anyone cares but more importantly why I really do think this means karamel endgame:
My guess is based on everything we’ve heard and the rumors: they wanted Chris to return for season 4 but he didn’t want to stick around, for whatever reason I won’t speculate.  So they said to him, okay, fine, but he had to be open to being written back into the show for an appearance and karamel endgame toward the end.  Notice they undid his death in the episode with Reign, laid the groundwork to show how much he still means to Kara and vice versa in episode 100, etc.  And yes, they didn’t mention him much in s4 but to be honest, I think just wanted to give some time because maybe they hoped the supercraps would finally simmer down a bit (fat chance) and they were biding time till they could bring him back and they did mention him, though in a very poorly-written line.
Then they test the waters with episode 100’s return and the majority of sane fans loved it.  So they proceeded with their plan to give karamel endgame in the finale and meantime distracted everyone with Dull Reporter Dude who was never meant to be endgame, but rather, was supposed to be the Pete Shanahan of this story (hillshollow will get this reference but for non-Stargate SG-1 fans, basically means the dull and completely ordinary guy very ill-fitting for a superhero to marry but she’s desperate to make it work because she doesn’t want to admit she’s in love with someone else).  So they keep DRD around but keep throwing out stories showing how Kara will never be herself around him and he’s not a serious contender for endgame.  Plus - cue the Sweet Home Alabama theme - she gave away her heart a long ago [to Mon El], and she never got it back.
Hence them returning Mon El for karamel endgame in the finale.  I really think the evidence is rock-solid for this to happen: they wouldn’t bring back a serious love interest who Kara said “I LOVE YOU” to just randomly, finale or not.  They wouldn’t unless they plan to make them be together for good.  Yes, you can argue that James is back but we all know James was never a serious love interest and they never loved each other, he really was nothing more than a puppy crush when Kara was still searching for herself, her identity, the real love of her life who is not only a hero in his own right but can stand alongside her like equals.  And thus far, the only one we’ve seen who fits that bill is Mon El.  (Just like the only one who could ever be on equal footing in SG-1 with Samantha Carter was Jack O'Neill, the head of SG-1, the man who fought alongside her for years and understood her life and her world unlike all the love interests she had throughout the show.)
So you heard it here first and this time you might even believe me: KARAMEL ENDGAME INCOMING, BITCHES!!!!! XD
Assorted thoughts I already shared today:
1) I do think the funeral is Papa Zor-El’s most likely, sorry.  I thought maybe it could be Dull Reporter Dude but it makes no sense to have Mon El or Winn there for it, they never knew him and I would guess his family wouldn’t want randos who didn’t even know him at his funeral.
2) I don’t think melwood is going to stay in Vancouver so my guess is any special appearances or crossovers they make with S&L will be few and very far in between if any at all.
Anyone else see any concrete evidence for karamel endgame, feel free to pipe in here.  On a closing note, I would say something about supercraps, but they don’t deserve any more of my time or my headspace, so screw that.
*
A standing ovation, please:
Tumblr media
I agree? Totally. I think a lot of us, more or less, had and have similar thoughts. Just we keep in mind that we talk about the SG writers who love to screw everything, not only ships, but generally speaking - EVERYTHING.
But yeah, it makes sense. I don’t think that the pandemia screwed Dullara that much, because he could have been developed outisde of Kara and their so called relationship, and he was not.
1)The funeral is William’s, it looks like. Staz was not in that scene also Lobotomzier is founding some journalistic school with his name, so it probably means he is dead. I think Legion could have come for another mission, William died and they stayed for teh funeral to support Kara and the rest superfriends.
It’s not Zor El. Papa Zor is with Alura on Argo. End of story.
2)Yeah, they have a house in CA and there is nothing that will keep them there after finishing shooting.
Bitch, don’t force me to start watching SG-1, I have other things to do =____________=’
@hillshollow @peggystormborn @raisedbyfandomwolves @madeunmexico @chelseaellie @adazzlingsakura @msclockwatcher @i-am-aci01 you may find in interesting :D

Supergirl finale thoughts
Overall, I like this episode. One thing I really liked actually was how Lex met his end. Him being brought down by his own hubris seemed fitting since part of Lena’s arc this season included letting go of her personal stake in the fight against Lex. I wish the phantoms had only taken Lex though because Nyxly deserved better than sent back to the Phantom Zone with Lex.
I was in favour the the DEO being reconstituted, but only because it’s a “carte blanche to reimagine it” which means they can reimagine it as not a military organisation. I was thinking that with the help of people like Kelly, it would be more of a bureau that does stuff like help aliens navigate the system to becoming citizens and fund community organisations to help aliens (as well as giving Alex a pay check). Dreamers Center for LGBTQ+ outreach made me tear up.
I was so happy to see Monel’s goodbye because it felt like what they did with William to shut down Karamel for good. I hope it’s because they knew how toxic it was and wanted to say that Kara deserves better but idk.
Also, Brainy and Nia’s goodbye was so good. I was almost disappointed when he came back because that made such a good goodbye pointless.
I was so excited to see Cat again. Especially when she said “everything became clear, I’m a reporter.” That’s the same realisation I needed Kara to have.
I was so scared when she was talking to Alex that she was going to change her mind and go to the future.
Cw cannot seem to get lesbian wedding looks down. At least the outfits were good this time and it was just Alex’s hair that was weird.
Why did Winn and Lena walk in arm in arm? What happened to the big brain now that Brainy’s staying? Nura Nal? I’m assuming the reason that Winn could leave the present forever without bad things happening was because, like the original Legends, he wasn’t very important.
Yay! Kara singing! Obviously was going to happen but I’m still happy.
Why didn’t Eliza walk Alex down the aisle? Especially since J’onn is officiating.
I love seeing Esme happy!
I wonder why the Lena godmother scene was cut in the aired version. It was funny and heartwarming.
The OG superfriends 😍 most of this episode didn’t feel very much like the series finale, but this part really did.
The “I figured out what I really wanted in life” then cut to a shot of Lena glowing in the sunlight and the only thing in focus just seemed like something out of a romance movie.
Didn’t we learn that Cat knew about Kara being supergirl back in season 2? I think so but I guess Kara didn’t.
I was convinced Kara was going to say “I love you while hugging Lena”
Lena looked so gay in the second half of this episode. I’m glad the last shot of the series was Kara looking happy.
The only thing I’m really disappointed about is that Kara didn’t end up with Lena. Because it was brought up again and again from the beginning of the series that Kara wanted a partner, and most recently in the second half of season 6 with “I don’t want to be alone anymore” I’m disappointed that she didn’t get her “perfect partner at game night” happy ending that I felt she deserved.

Supergirl 6x3: Phantom Menaces.
Hey guys, I’m a little later than usual, but here I am. This week’s episode of Supergirl was MUCH better than last week’s. My thoughts below. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Okay, Kara broke her leg falling from the sky but also has super strength in the Phantom Zone? Something doesn’t add up, haha.
I’m going to like Nyxly, I think. I already liked her in this episode and Peta Sergeant and Melissa had easy chemistry with one another. I look forward to seeing Supergirl, Superdad, and Superimp team up.
Aw, poor Silas. You traded in your silly fangs for some crappy make-up effects. You deserved so much better.
Oh, Brainy snarking at Lex’s interview and filling it in with his own words was too funny. One of the best funny moments of the episode.
Agh, omg. The Alex and Kelly moment at the beginning of the episode was so good. Kelly giving a classic Superfriends Hope Speech(tm) was amazing. Was it corny? Oh hell yes. Was it exactly the kind of drama (good kind) I needed from them? Also yes. Chyler knocked it out of the park this episode. More on that later.
Lena vs. Lex was better this week. I think it worked better because of a few reasons. One reason is because it was a lot of snarky back and forth between them, which Katie and Jon are great at. The other reason is because Lex wasn’t heavily featured this episode. He has always worked better in smaller doses, and this goes to show me that it’s true.
Full disclosure, the Phantoms look terrible. They also remind me of another alien from something else, but I just can’t place it.
The Lena and Brainy conversation...wow. I loved this scene so bloody much. These two characters have always had a lot in common, and Katie and Jesse work really well with each other. The delivery, the callbacks, the everything. Lena telling Brainy that they were wrong about the “little boxes” was soooo good. Brainy finally breaking down and screaming and crying about how he felt was also soooooo good. Brainy crying “I miss her...” with Lena’s pregnant pause before her quietly responding “me too.” was just fantastic. This was tied for the best emotional scene of the episode. Just brillant.
J’onn, M’gann is your partner, not someone you can boss around. I wish we could have seen some of M’gann fighting against the Phantoms, but the emotional beats were really well done.
Speaking of, I hope M’gann is sticking around. I always loved her character when she appeared, and she does add some depth to the cast by being a Black woman. Maybe her and J’onn will be leaving together at some point, but I have a feeling she’s here for the whole season.
Alex and Brainy teaming up with Lena to fight the Phantoms? Chef’s kiss. Let them work together more often. They all have big brains but don’t handle emotions well.
It’s missing Nia hours. :(
I’m glad that CatCo wasn’t featured this episode. I love Nia and Andrea, but there would have no zero point of having them on screen this episode. The episode flowed really nicely because the focus was on 2 points of conflict, so it wasn’t spread too thin trying to fit everyone in. So yeah, I missed Nia this episode, but in the grander scheme of things it was the right move for her to not be there.
Kara’s story this week was kinda whatever. She had a few good moments, like when she was explaining her story to Nyxly. When her voice caught as she explained she thought “I-...we were the only survivors” was really wonderful. Melissa always knocks it out of the park when it comes to moments like this.
“I do hate you. I just love me more.” YASSS LENA, YOU BEAUTIFUL PERSON. This is the kind of women empowerment we expect from the show.
J’onn and M’gann’s conversation near the end of the episode was really sweet. I really how far these two have come from their original meeting, and they’re one of my favourite couples now.
M’gann and J’onn’s conversation also paralleled a conversation Lena and Kara had, in a way. J’onn apologies for, and I’m paraphrasing here, keeping M’gann at arm’s length emotionally, then says “we’re a team.” M’gann says back, “we already are.” I’m almost certain Lena and Supergirl/Kara had a similar conversation, but correct me if I am wrong.
Okay, the other Dansen moment. HOLY SMOKES. Everything about it was perfect. Kelly saying she wasn’t any help, Alex tearfully saying that Kelly SAVED HER. The fact that there has been no kisses this season and Dansen got the first one? Brilliant. Alex asking Kelly to move in with her because she wanted to share everything with Kelly had my heart melting. It was a really sweet Dansen moment that we really needed to see. Well done, Supergirl, well done. And well done to Chyler and Azie, because they really nailed that scene perfectly.
Anyway, that’s it for this week. I’ll catch all you later. Until then, see ya!!

There are 7 totems. Assume that no totem is gained in episode 12 and there are 20 episodes, that means 1 episode = 1 totem + the finale. Fitting with several episode titles explicitly saying what totem they are about.
They used Myxy to explain that even though imps have the power to move anywhere in the universe, apparently each planet has a full set of totems. I’m already preparing myself for the cringe that not only are all totems on earth, they are all conveniently in National City.
I wonder why they even bothered with the “each planet has a set”. The whole problem wouldn’t exist if they just said that the totems are in a higher dimension and have to be “invoked” by somebody triggering a trial. Then you would have to just find the right set of actions to trigger the trial and you wouldn’t have to awkwardness of the totems all being conveniently close where our characters can reach them (expecially if imps can time travel, in theory the tokens couldn’t just be any place in the universe but also in any moment, so them all being conveniently reachable is even more silly).
With a line like:
the totems can be disguised as literally anything, so she needs a magical orb to find them.
I can’t help but wonder whether some totems will accidentally end up being things that are meaningful to our characters (like Kara’s necklace for example).Again, something that would be a lot less cheesy if it was that the spirit of the totem can imbue an item that is already meaningful to a person and be channeled through it rather than an item was a totem all along.
I wonder if Lena’s powers will be used kind of like the location spells Bonnie used to do on Vampire Diaries. Because before that, all they can do it try to trail Nyxly on her hunt, they need a way to find the totems before Nyxly rather than just letting Nyxly detect the totems and then try to grab it before she can. (I wonder in general how combat useful Lena’s magic is going to be if she is more in the backrow at the final battle, I could picture it be more like location magic and her being the one who creates the AllStone and with a bit “we trust you” moment where they trust her not to abuse it the way Lex has abused similarly powerful artefacts) Alternatively, it could be Nia’s job to try and dream where the tokens will show up?
It’s also going to be interesting if from a power balance, the Superfriends have to pass all tests or whether they will win some totems but lose others (like there being an episode called Nightmares in National City could imply that they don’t succeed in getting the Dream token?).
Like clearly the rules of escalation dictate that the AllStone has to be created. So will it be that the heroes get all totems, make the AllStone and Lex and Nyxly nab it at the last second? Or the heroes lose all tests and so Nyxly can make the totem? Or will it be Nyxly getting some but not others?
Kara’s necklace being a totem would be an interesting way to get Mon-El to come back. Kara realizes that the necklace is one of the totems and has to contact him to ask for it back.

Supertimes with the Superfriends Chapter 1: M Is For Monopoly
A/N: What kind of mayhem do the Superfriends get up to? Featuring B!D she’s new to National City. Starts to take place at the Beginning of season 2.
It was Game night and you were currently helping Kara set up for her friends to come over. You were pretty nervous because it was your first game night since you just moved to National City to be closer with your sisters and to get out of Midvale. You were currently going to school here to become a special fx and creative makeup artist so Kara had you move into her apartment when she found out about it.
“Its gonna be fine, little one they’re all gonna love you,” she said giving you a hug and kissing the top of your head. Alex walked into your apartment with Maggie in tow. The detective was the one person you already knew, you’d met a couple of weeks ago and hit it off.
“Maggie!” You said excitedly running to hug your sister’s girlfriend.
“Hey kid, how’s my favorite Danvers?” Asked Maggie, receiving a simultaneous “hey” from both of your sisters.
“It’s good to see you too sis,” you said hugging Alex.
You spent the next few minutes chatting with Alex and Maggie about school until the rest of your guests started to arrive. You met Winn, Kara’s nerdy tech friend the two of you instantly hit it off talking about your mutual love for video games. Then James, who was running Catco while Cat Grant was away. He was tall and to be honest kind of intimidating, but at the same time warm and friendly. Then you met Mon El or “Mike” of the interns...he was ok.
“Lena, this is my sister, Y/N! Y/N, this is Lena,” said Kara as she introduced you to THE Lena Luthor.
You decided you were gonna try your hardest to be cool and not fangirl all over the place. So you shook the beautiful CEO’s hand hoping that it wasn’t dripping in sweat all while thinking to yourself how much you really want to do her makeup, if you could ever get up the courage to ask her. I mean it would’ve been nice if your sisters had warned you a genius billionaire CEO was coming tonight.
“Its a pleasure to finally put a face to the name nice to meet you Y/N"
“Same, Kara doesn’t shut up about you, and I can see why you’re really pretty” you blurted out.
“Y/N!” Kara scolds while Alex goes into a hysterical fit of laughter. While you’re sure both yours and Kara’s cheeks turned several shades of red. However you didn’t like the CEO like that. You just really admired her she was in her 20′s running a company for Pete’s sake. Plus she’d be really nice to do makeup on.
“What are we playing first?” You asked curiously trying to get rid of the awkwardness.
“Monopoly?” Maggie suggested. Due to her case load this was only Maggie’s 3rd game night and she was still naïve.
Alex face palmed, she forgot to warn Maggie about that game.
“I dont think that’s a good idea,” James said suddenly.
“Why whats wrong with monopoly?” you asked briefly forgetting about your sisters competative side.
“You’ll see.”
It had been nearly two hours when your memories of your over competative (mainly Kara)  sisters came rushing back.
“I give up,” James sat back.
“Come on James, you cant give up now,” replied Winn.
Kara, Lena, and Winn were all completely engrossed in the game a bomb could go off and you weren't sure they’d here it.
You were currently struggling since monopoly wasn't really your strong suit, “so who usually wins?” You asked.
James Shrugged, “Winn or Kara,” as you can see we try not to play to often.
By the end of the night you understood why you shouldn’t say the “M Word” at game night. Despite the craziness it had turned out to be a really fun night. You got to make some new friends including Lena FREAKING Luthor. You still were hoping you could do her makeup.

Tattoos
B!D x Superfriends
Request: I love your writing and I was wondering if you can do a B!D where she’s covered in tattoos and she looks super scary and rides a awesome modercycle and she meets the super friends for the first and and they’re a little scared of her but she’s actually a really big softie like a bigger softie then kara😂
Warnings: none
Note: ty for saying u luv my writing <3 means a lot thanks for the request! this was fun and simple to write ALSO I JUST REREAD WHAT I WROTE I SAY WICKED SM LOL SORRY its the new england in me hahaa
“What if they don’t like me?” you asked, pacing anxiously.
“Y/N stop worrying! What’s not to like?” Kara said warmly.
“True.” you said grinning.
Alex rolled her eyes, “Yeah besides that big ego of yours”
You just laughed, and thought about the fact that tonight you were going to meet your sisters’ friends for the first time. You’re going to be meeting Lena Luthor, Nia Nal, James Olsen, and Winn Schott. From what you have heard, they are all super nice, but you are still wicked nervous. They were all coming over for movie night at 6pm. You got ready and tried to look good to set a good first impression.
Soon enough, 6pm rolled around. The first person to show up was Lena. She gave her hugs to Kara and Alex who was waiting for her at the door. Then she looked at me and smiled. You could tell she was caught off guard by your tattoos. You don’t blame her... you did have a lot of tattoos.
“I know, pretty crazy tattoos right” you laughed, trying to make sure things weren’t awkward.
“I’m so sorry for staring, it’s so impolite of me. I love them they look great” Lena said kindly.
You smiled back at her, “Thanks, I’m Y/N Danvers”
She reached out her hand, “Lena Luthor”
You ignored her hand and went in for a hug, which was a surprise to Lena, but she hugged you back. You couldn’t help it, you just liked hugs. Then one by one, the rest of the gang showed up. They all were taken back by your tattoos, but none of them were rude about it. You found it wicked funny how they were all scared to say anything about them.
“Alex, did you get a new motorcycle?” James asked, trying to fill the silence with conversation.
“No actually, that mine” you spoke up, smiling.
James gave you a quick smile, “Oh okay”
You could tell it was a little awkward, but you liked them. They were a little intimidated by you, but they were wicked nice about it. You knew that things would get better once they got to know you. They picked out the movie, ‘The Notebook’. You were okay with it. You knew it was sad, but you have never seen it before.
Before you knew it, you were sobbing at the movie. Not just crying... like sobbing. Ugly sobbing. Alex started laughing.
“Y/N are you crying?” she said smiling.
You smiled at her through your obvious tears, “No?”
Alex laughed again.
“Okay fine I’m crying! How are you guys not crying, do you even have hearts?” you said through your cries.
You were expecting someone to laugh, but nobody knew what to say. Finally Lena spoke up.
“Wow. You’re a bigger softie than Kara” she said and chuckled.
You took a second to react. All night, this was the first time someone made a joke to you. You smiled big and looked at Kara who was also laughing at Lena’s joke. Eventually the rest of the gang started laughing to.
Nia spoke up, “I’m really sorry it was awkward in the beginning Y/N, but I’m really happy we met”
“Yeah, you were a little intimidating before we got to know you, to be honest” Winn added.
“It’s okay guys,” you laughed, “I get that a lot, it was a little awkward but you guys were still super nice.”
“She tries to act all tough with her tattoos and motorcycle, but she’s just a baby” Kara said in her mocking-baby-voice which you hate. She tried to squeeze your cheeks but you slapped her hand away.”
“Shut up Kara” you said laughing.
“Yeah shut up Kara, let’s finish the movie, Y/N didn’t finish her sob session” Alex said smiling.
Everyone laughed at Alex’s comment, including you (AFTER you rolled your eyes). You were really glad with the way tonight turned out. You loved Kara and Alex’s friends and you were happy they gave you a chance. You knew that before long, you would fit right in.

Ends of the Earth (Part 2)
Part One or read on AO3
“Lena?”
That was her first word, unsurprisingly, when she woke up after fending off the Children of the Earth. It was the only word she would ever speak as she drifted in and out of consciousness following her exposure to kryptonite over the course of three weeks. That in-and-out existence consisted of little more than fragmented memories of disjointed conversations and dodged questions overshadowed by the ever-present pain of her body healing itself after being pushed past its limits.
“Hey, hey, there… how are you feeling?” Alex soothed coming slowly into view as Kara’s eyes adjusted to the bright lights of the sunlamps for maybe the second or was it third… or maybe even fifth time...
“Thirsty…” Kara croaked out through dry lips. “And… pain…” Kara admitted, everything aching in a way it never had before.
“Here.” A straw was gently pressed against her lips, and she felt blissful water coat her mouth and throat. Kara was pretty sure it was the greatest drink of water she had ever had.
“Lena? Where’s Lena?” Kara repeated, her voice stronger now.
“Just rest for now, okay?” Alex requested, plumping the pillows behind Kara before ducking her head and fiddling with the machine at the side of the bed to increase Kara’s dose of analgesic which was effective at rapidly lulling the kryptonian back to dreamless, painless sleep.
The day eventually came where Kara was awake longer than a couple of minutes, where the ache was more of a residual hum than anything else and Kara’s mind was sharp enough to push for answers instead of being deterred by Alex and Eliza’s methods of dodging.
When the day came and Kara was given the truth, she would reflect back fleetingly on those three weeks of constant pain and recovery where she had little grasp of her own reality and wish, wish with everything she had, to go back to that state of being. Because this… the pain Kara felt on that day when she was presented with her new reality obliterated every other pain she had ever experienced, rendering them little more than stubbed toes in comparison.
*
“The portal wasn’t stable… you know that the power stabilisers weren’t in place yet; it required active management to prevent it going critical.”
“She stayed behind… she kept the portal open so that we… Kara, I’m so sorry...”
“It was unstable, it's… it’s very likely the portal exploded and… It would have been quick...”
“She said… she said… to tell you to be happy… Kara, she also… she also said something about looking forward to a sunset... Kara?”
“Kara? Say something, please…”
“Kara?”
“Kara?”
*
She stopped then. It was as if she ceased to exist.
How could she exist when she no longer had a heart in her chest?
Here she was on a whole new planet, and Kara couldn’t find the strength to get up and go see it.
She lived in her mind, going relentlessly over her memories of Lena, lost to a past she would do anything to change with absolutely no interest in building a future.
*
She would do things differently if she could. (So many things.)
Kara sometimes wondered if she counted - her regrets versus the choices she would make again - which way the scales would tip…
There was a reason she never counted.
Kara knew that she was rather young to have so many regrets, so much weight on her shoulders and experiences that would scar her for the rest of her life.
But, if she had to pick… if someone came to her and said there was one thing in her life she could change… it would be Lena.
The problem, however, was that she didn’t know what specific choice or moment to change… there were too many options. So many of her snap decisions and cowardly actions had inflicted wounds on the youngest Luthor that would haunt Kara far worse than any of her own trauma could ever hope to.
She’d seen the story play out differently thanks to Mxyzptlk - but she doubted those versions, especially now after seeing how the future was more liquid than solid, able to change, fluctuate and bend around your fingers with only the smallest shift. Mxyzptlk had shown her some potential outcomes of different choices but that didn’t make them the only outcomes.
The obvious history rewrite would be to have told Lena her true identity far earlier but if Kara was honest with herself as she tried to be in all matters related to Lena - because Kara refused to sully a single memory or thought she had of Lena with falsehoods - telling Lena about Supergirl wasn’t what Kara thought about most whilst she laid there in bed rejecting her new reality.
Her daydreams and fantasies didn’t centre around Supergirl.
Kara refused to boil everything between her and Lena down to Lena’s relationship with only a single strand of her identity. It was Kara Zor-El and Lena that mattered, everything else was just decoration atop that foundation.
The change Kara would enact, if given the chance, could have taken place at any time, during any one of her interactions with Lena.
If Kara could do everything again… she would make sure that this time around she told Lena that she loved her. (Explicitly stated it rather than hint around it with pretty words.)
Truly and deeply loved her.
That Kara’s heart hadn’t been beating correctly in her chest, didn’t know what its actual purpose was other than to pump blood through her veins, until she met Lena. That there were parts of herself that only Lena could access, parts of herself that only Lena would ever see.
*
She knew that declaring her love for Lena during their very first meeting would be too soon, too intense but she should have at least realised what the fluttering of her heart really meant, instead of presuming it was anxiety about meeting a Luthor. She should have known what was really happening and acted on it as her friendship with Lena blossomed, instead of assuming the butterflies in her stomach were nerves about lying. She should have seen Lena’s early romantic gestures (flowers and galas with potstickers) for what they really were, rather than running towards a man, that whilst good and kind, didn’t make her heart swell as it struggled to comprehend everything Lena made her feel.
By the time Kara actually realised what her heart had been screaming and begging for her to understand, she was trapped and tied up around a web of lies so thick and all consuming that she didn’t know how to get out from under them.
But then, inevitably, came the truth, (far, far, far too late) and the subsequent loss of Lena.
That hurt.
It wounded Kara in a way she’d never been wounded before. And with any injury you’d never experienced, Kara - likewise - didn't know how to treat it. Didn’t realise how she poked and prodded at it merely made it bleed even more fervently. She then tried to erase it, rid herself of the organ (her heart) in its entirety - the ‘villain’ serving as a scalpel designed to free herself of the wound that refused to heal.
When her heart returned to her, it was beaten, withdrawn, and Kara didn’t know how to accept it back, how to fit it back inside of her chest.
It was awkward between her and Lena now. In a way it had never been before.
It was Kelly that put it all into perspective, helped Kara see the damage wrought on her heart, helped slot it back into place, though it now had jagged edges that kept catching and digging with every movement. It was Kelly that explained abuse victims, how they sadly returned to their abusers, how Lena had done just that after finding out that her attempt at escape had merely led her back to the same pain the Luthors had inflicted over and over again. Lena’s second escape, second show of strength was incredible and should be admired, not punished.
Kara and the Superfriends had hung their heads in shame.
Brainy was the first to bridge the gap, him and Lena having always shared an understanding that no one else could touch. Two souls, told to fear themselves but constantly striving to prove themselves worthy.
Kara would hover nearby, struggling with the desire to reach out but the guilt of harm already inflicted keeping her away and then… then…
It was the end of the world and Kara told herself that everything else could wait.
That they could wait.
*
It never should have been soon, or later, or almost…
It should have been now…
This moment, right now!
Why did they keep fucking waiting?
All it did was result in missed opportunity after missed opportunity until there were no more ‘soon’s to come, and there would be no more ‘now’s to seize… all that was left was too late.
Too fucking late.
*
There were some memories that stood out more than others, the ones where they planned their future, the ones where Lena had bared herself to Kara in a way that made Kara feel so privileged, the ones where they had been so, so, so close to crossing that final gap between them and formally gifting each other their hearts wrapped lovingly and addressed solely to one another. It was those memories that Kara played on endless repeat as Alex shook her, screamed for her to come back, to snap out of her catatonic shell…
“On the coast.” Lena had replied when Kara had asked where she wanted to live when they arrived at their new home.
“I didn’t think you liked the beach?” Kara murmured, shuffling closer and closer until Lena’s back was pressed right against Kara’s front, Kara’s arms moving to wrap around Lena’s middle, just wanting to hold her close as she continued to work tirelessly.
“I didn’t say beach…” Lena hummed, glancing back over her shoulder with a teasing twinkle in her green eyes that had Kara bending her head down to bury her nose in long black hair that smelled of citrus - the generic shampoo that had been given out to everyone in the bunker. “I lived on the coast in Ireland…” Lena revealed, after a beat, her voice turning soft and sombre as it always did when she spoke of her mother and her life before the Luthors, causing Kara’s arms to gently squeeze Lena closer. “There were shingle beaches and cliffs… I just liked being able to hear the sound of the ocean. The waves hitting the shore… it was comforting.”
“Then a house on the coast you shall have.” Kara promised sincerely.
Lena laughed at that, “Oh, really? Are you going to build one for me?”
“No...” Kara replied, placing a quick kiss to the side of Lena’s head, “I’m going to build one for the both of us.” Lena stilled in her arms, her fingers moving away from the keyboard she had been typing on so that she could lay them over the top of Kara’s hands.
“Do you really want that?” Lena asked, quiet and disbelieving.
“Look at us, at this moment.” Kara requested, fingers flexing so that they interlaced with Lena’s easily. “I just want to be wherever you are.”
“Me too.” Lena replied, turning her head so that she could rest her forehead against Kara’s jaw, both of their eyes fluttering closed as they relished those rare few minutes that they could actually give solely to each other.
*
“It’s too much, sometimes…” Lena muttered, her hands shaking, after another long day, as she tried and failed to undo the buttons of her shirt so that she could finally slip into bed and sleep for a mere handful of hours before duty required her blood, sweat and tears all over again.
“I know.” Kara soothed, moving to kneel in front of Lena so that her own hands could reach out and gently take over the task. Kara’s fingers moved slowly, undoing each button with as much care as possible, her blue eyes politely averted as pale skin steadily became more and more visible.
“It shouldn’t be me.” Lena whispered into the stillness, green eyes boring into blue as Kara tucked her fingers underneath the shoulders of Lena’s crisp white shirt to push it off and down her arms. “I get that they need my mind and my intelligence, I get that, I do… but they are looking at me to…” Lena trailed off, gaze going distant.
“To?” Kara prompted, folding the shirt with precise movements before retrieving her soft Midvale High School shirt that Lena had taken to sleeping in, holding it up for Lena to push her arms tiredly through.
“Inspire…” Lena huffed as she pushed her head through the neck-hole. “Me. The most cynical person alive.”
“That’s not true.” Kara asserted earning her a disbelieving eyebrow raise that had her shaking her head ruefully. “Okay, it’s somewhat true.” Kara admitted earning her a giggle of amusement that warmed Kara’s heart as she shifted to lay down on her side of the cot, opening her arms for Lena to fall into.
“But it's not a bad thing. Not by a long shot.” Kara insisted seriously. “If it wasn’t for you, we would still be trying to fix the sun and billions of lives would have been lost whilst we accepted that we had to find another way. You’re not a cynic, though. I’ve watched you encounter stumbling block after stumbling block and you still…” Kara’s eyes roved over Lena’s fatigued, yet ever beautiful face, with wonder in her eyes. “Keep going… keep searching for a solution. A cynic wouldn’t do that. Couldn’t do that. You keep yourself grounded but you keep your eyes skywards. You inspire but you don’t lie. That’s what they did on Krypton, they liked sweet lies more than the harsh truth. You’re a balance of both.”
“Such tender words.” Lena remarked as a solitary index finger moved to tap affectionately against Kara’s lips.
“True words.” Kara corrected, puckering her lips to press something resembling a kiss to Lena’s finger, “If I was still leading... we would still be on the surface, my blind hope damning us all…”
Lena shook her head at that, harsh and firm, her hand moving to fully cup Kara’s face, “You’re wrong. So wrong.”
“How so?”
“Firstly, that’s not what it is…” Lena explained, her legs tangling with Kara’s as Kara pulled the blanket over the both of them, “blind hope...”
“What is it, then?”
Lena pursed her lips thoughtfully as the hand on Kara’s cheek moved to comb through blonde hair, “Faith.”
“Faith?” Kara repeated, signature crease appearing between her brows at the term.
“Yes and it's a beautiful thing.” Lena breathed reverently, “It's probably the best thing about you.”
“I thought that was my blue eyes and handsome good looks.” Kara smirked, knowing if she leant into the moment they had created (sincere and loving), she wouldn’t be able to wait anymore… that soon wasn’t going to cut it.
“That’s second and third place, respectively.” Lena shot back immediately, fingers stilling for only a second before continuing their endless movement through Kara’s hair.
“It’s still blind.” Kara said, returning to the topic, now more confident that she could rein in her desire for the time being. “Just as likely to lead to a miracle as it would off a cliff.”
“Maybe.” Lena agreed, “But faith, in the face of insurmountable odds, is when the impossible happens.” Lena countered as she settled further into Kara’s warm embrace, cold nose pressed against a spot just underneath Kara’s jaw. “I would have given up if it wasn’t for you, a long time ago.”
“I’m glad my ability to make the perfect coffee has paid off in some way.” Kara joked.
“Don’t do that. Don’t minimise yourself.” Lena said, tone hard and serious, making Kara tense for a fleeting moment. “The only reason I keep going after each stumbling block is because of you. Because you believe that I can do it.” Lena revealed, her voice rising an octave to keep back the sting of tears. “Your unshakeable faith in me, gives me the strength to make the impossible happen. Don’t you dare ridicule it. Because I need it, Kara.” Lena declared, lifting her head so that Kara could see the watery sheen magnifying vibrant green eyes. “I need you to have faith in me because most days it's the only thing keeping me going.”
*
Kara sat up for the first time then, head ringing with the memory of Lena’s words.
Lena is alive and she is waiting.
Kara just had to have faith. And if there was one thing that Kara had more faith in than anything else in the universe, it was Lena.
Lena is alive and she is waiting.
Kara whispered the mantra to herself over and over again as she staggered to her feet. Repeated it endlessly until it tattooed itself onto the walls of the empty chasm where her heart should be.
Lena is alive and she is waiting.
The words fuelled her faith and her faith fuelled the words like an endless repeating cycle as she walked out of her room and got to work.
*
“Lena is alive and she’s waiting.” Kara declared to Brainy, who blinked at her rapidly in surprise at the statement and her unexpected appearance after being unresponsive for over a month.
“How can you be sure?” Brainy questioned, choosing to ignore the multitude of questions related to Kara’s sudden revival.
“I can’t, but I am.” Kara replied, falling into the chair opposite humanity’s new chief scientist. “How do we save her?”
Brainy pursed his lips and remained silent for a long time, clearly trying to decide if he should push back against Kara’s assertion before nodding once in acceptance. “Short answer, I don’t know.” Brainy answered honestly. “Long answer, another transmat portal.”
“Okay, then let’s build one.” Kara demanded, banging a clenched fist against an open palm.
“If only it was that easy.” Brainy laughed drily, shaking his head in resignation.
Kara’s jaw clenched in determination, “Tell me what the problems are.”
“Kara, I don’t think-” Brainy started softly, beginning the gentle deterrence and refusal that Kara was now intimately familiar with, having come straight from meeting the leaders of humanity (which had now formed an official government - The Terran Coalition).
“Now, Brainy.” Kara ordered coldly, her expression darkening.
Brainy flinched in shock at the tone and command, but recovered quickly, getting to his feet to write on a nearby whiteboard. The first word he wrote in big block capitals was ‘MATERIALS’.
“Firstly, we don’t have the materials to construct another transmat portal. We depleted our supply of a number of rare elements and compounds that were present on Earth but we don’t know if they are here on Terra Nova. If they’re not, we would need to fully re-design the portal from the ground up to take into consideration the impact of substitutions.”
“Which brings us onto the next issue.” Brainy continued, adding another word just below the first one, ‘KNOWLEDGE’. “Lena knew the portals better than anyone, the rest of us understood the particular portal design that we used and different parts of the underlying theory but it was only Lena that truly understood the full picture. I, and the scientists that worked closely with Lena, have now been allocated to separate projects.” Brainy explained, gesturing around the lab they were currently sat in that had only one or two familiar faces that Kara recognised from all the time she spent at Lena’s side. “Projects to ensure we can safely make Terra Nova our home, projects that serve the whole of humanity.” Brainy grimaced as he stated a truth Kara was acutely aware of from her lengthy discussion with the Coalition that had resulted in neither her nor them walking away happy. “The leaders won’t allow time and resources to be pulled away to work on this. They just won’t. But let’s say you can create an entirely new portal from scratch with only a shoe-string budget and support… you then reach the biggest issue… One that even Lena never got around to solving.”
“What?” Kara prompted, blue eyes narrowing at this.
“Precision.” Brainy wrote it out in big, block letters adding it to the list. “For the portals we used, we were just aiming for a planet, even just the general vicinity of space around the planet. We didn’t have to ensure the portals adjusted to remain in a fixed location on the other side, we just had to make them not overlap. We shot the transports through and then let them finish off the journey. To get back to Lena and save her… you would need absolute precision. You would need to open it up within the bunker. You would need it to adjust to remain in that location, which would massively increase the amount of energy required to open it. Opening it anywhere else could put you and anyone that goes through in massive danger and there would be no way to get to Lena without putting her in danger either.” Brainy hung his head, capping his marker pen and moved forward to squeeze Kara’s shoulder comfortingly, “I’m sorry, Kara. But even if-”
“Materials. Knowledge. Precision.” Kara repeated firmly, gaze fixed with steely determination on the words scrawled across the board. Three words stopping her from getting Lena back. Three herculean tasks that Kara was ready to dedicate herself to mind, body and soul.
Lena had told her once that she could make Kara an expert in ten years.
Kara intended to prove that wrong - she would do it quicker than that, she had to.
Whilst she might not have Lena to teach her, she did have one hell of an incentive.
*
Terra Nova was without a doubt a beautiful planet. Lush forests, snow peaked mountains, tropical jungles and enticing black-sand beaches. It lacked a desert but the majority of people weren't too disappointed to find that particular biome missing.
The first city of Terra Nova was named after humanity's saviour, as it should be. The Coalition had approached Kara about it, wise enough to know that any slight, accidental or otherwise, against the (presumed deceased) youngest Luthor would provoke the retired hero. They were originally planning something like Luthorton but Kara had shot that down, point blank telling them that if they wanted to honour Lena it should be Lena's name that was remembered and not the family that had betrayed her.
Lenacity (pronounced like tenacity) would forever be known as the first city of Terra Nova, to forever serve as a beacon of hope to humanity. There was even a statue in Lena's honour erected in the very centre of the city.
Not that Kara had ever seen it, nor did she attend the dedication ceremony; she barely even read the announcement proclaiming the city's name.
Humanity built itself a new home, creating infrastructure and cities. Rebuilding themselves anew and making this planet truly theirs in a far more sustainable manner than on Earth - they now knew the pitfalls of industrialization and the Coalition made sure to avoid them this time around with scientists like Briany serving as their guide.
Kara, though, only had a vague awareness of the world being built up around her. She moved from her bed in the makeshift hospital to a back-room in Brainy’s lab to, eventually, her own lab inside Lenacity University - the Coalition arranging her a workspace and position as a thank you for her service during the end of the Earth.
Kara had a purpose, a purpose driven by seven words that Kara would mutter under her breath whenever her head began to ache as she struggled her way through textbooks and theorems…
Lena is alive and she is waiting.
Kara's life revolved around this one goal to the exclusion of all else. She barely ate and she only slept when her mind simply could not go on.
She was weaker here, on Terra Nova. And not just in the figurative sense (her soul and mind torn asunder at the loss of her heart). She still had her powers but they weren’t the same as they were on Earth. The atmosphere and Sun on Terra Nova was different to Earth so it wasn’t completely unexpected.
She was still stronger than a human being, could still lift a car but not a bus.
She was faster than a human being, but not faster than a bullet.
Her hearing was still enhanced; she could hear the heartbeats of people in the room but it took considerable concentration now, and anything more than a street away was near impossible.
Heat vision was still there but attenuated; she could still heat up a coffee after it had gone cold but she wasn’t going to be destroying a space-ship anytime soon.
Flight was the biggest loss. It was still there but it was tiring now. It used to be easy, seamless but flying a considerable distance was like running a half-marathon after only minimal prep.
There were other effects of her powers being diminished, her golden complexion and hair lost their sun-kissed experience - hair turning a darker blonde and skin slightly paler.
Whilst Kara never did anything physically demanding, nothing of interest on this planet to prompt her to move, at least in those early years (later years spent seeking the exact right materials for her plans exposed her to a number of wondrous sights that had little impact on the hero focused on her singular task), she was not taking care of herself.
She now understood what Lena went through during those two years, why it was so hard to get her to stop and just take care of herself.
Stopping to eat, sleep or relax in anyway required justification. Justifying time that could be spent helping someone else - saving someone else - on an activity that felt selfish.
It was probably something Kara should have experienced more of during her time as Supergirl, but she had never struggled to put distance between herself and that role. Had never really hesitated to accept invitations to karaoke and sister nights. It was different now, though, now Kara was no longer justifying the time delay to some unknown randomer who may or may not need saving… now she was justifying it to Lena.
Lena, who was trapped in a bleak bunker all alone.
Lena, who probably thought no one was coming to save her.
The weight fell off Kara, her muscles steadily eaten away, dark bags under her eyes becoming a permanent feature and her hair hastily cut short and jagged to minimise the care she had to give it.
The only thing that saved Kara from the damage she was slowly inflicting on herself was Alex.
*
That first year, Alex kept her distance - accepting Kara’s casual dismissals without push-back and her usual assertiveness. It wasn’t just Kara that had been changed by their permanent departure from Earth. The fire in Alex’s eyes had dimmed, her assertiveness tempered and her overall demeanour more quiet and withdrawn. Kara sympathised (distantly), knowing what it was like to leave her home behind but feeling that Kelly, Eliza and the other Superfriends would be a much more effective support system compared to anything Kara could offer at that time.
Alex would stop by every now and again, hands clasped behind her back, hovering timidly in the doorway, making her various pleas, “Kara, you need to eat.”
“I can’t right now, why don’t you go have lunch with Kelly?” That was Kara’s go to rejection, figuring it would at least encourage Alex to live her life, she deserved to. No point dragging Alex down with her.
Alex would nod once and hesitantly walk away, popping back up a week later with a plate of food in her hands that she would place in a rare empty space on Kara’s desk
“Hey-”, Alex would begin, seeking to break through Kara’s focus.
“Not now.” Kara would reply simply, no sharpness or venom to it, just a simple refusal.
Kara couldn’t be what Alex needed. She had no heart in her chest and she didn’t want to expose Alex to the coldness that now resided in the space it once occupied.
Kara had to get Lena back. Once she got Lena back, she could be herself again. Could feel and support like she always did before.
“Alex, just… leave me alone.” Kara requested before Alex even had a chance to say a word.
It was a year of this. Kara retreating further and further into herself and her work; Alex on the outside, uncertain of how to reach her. Tentative and nervous when her relationship with Kara had been the one she was most certain of.
“I’m sorry.”
The apology was new and managed to get Kara to cast a curious glance over her shoulder to see Alex, head dropped, red hair forming a barrier to her expression and hands curled into painful fists at her sides as she trembled in the doorway.
“Alex, I don’t really have time for this-” Kara began, already turning away when...
“I know you blame me…” Alex whispered, her voice cracking in a way that Kara had never heard before.
That jerked Kara back, brought her momentarily back to her own body, out of her half-life existence as she turned back round to actually look at her sister for the first time in… months. She looked distraught. Brown eyes broken and crying, lips bitten and raw, her complexion pale and her entire being exuding exhaustion.
“Blame you? Blame you for what?” Kara questioned in total confusion, moving towards her sister without conscious thought.
“For Lena.” Alex gasped, wrapping her arms tightly around own body protectively, “I… I failed her and I failed you.”
Kara’s jaw dropped, her stomach sinking like lead through the floor as the realisation punched her squarely in the gut. Alex hadn’t been grieving for Earth, she had been punishing herself. Punishing herself for Lena and by extension what Kara had turned into.
“Alex… no… I don’t…” Kara stammered, reaching out with shy fingers that had forgotten what it was like to make contact with another being. “Is that what you think?”
“You can barely look at me.” Alex cried, cringing in shame and guilt… and that…
It’s awful to admit, but it was the first time Kara felt something other than hollow. After a year of deadened emotion, Kara remembered how to feel. Felt the barrier she had unknowingly crafted around herself cracking open just a slither. Just enough for her to remember her sister. Her solid ground and most trusted ally. The person who she could always depend on.
“I can barely look at myself.” Alex continued, unaware how her own breakdown was reviving her sister back from her empty shell. “You love her so much and I... I couldn’t save her for you. You’ve lost so much and I now understand a fraction of that, just a tiny fraction and… I should have saved her. She was my friend, too. And she… she didn’t even… she gave so much and I couldn’t…”
“Alex, oh Rao, no… no… no…”  Kara murmured, finally stepping forward to wrap her arms around her sister that she had been hurting without realising. Everytime she had pushed Alex away in a bid to shield her from her emptiness, she had merely been reinforcing to Alex the misconception that she was to blame. “Come here. It wasn’t your fault, okay? It was mine. I left her side…”
“No! Kara!” Alex rejected loudly, even as her arms wrapped tightly around Kara in return. “No. You left her side because of me. Because I asked for Supergirl-”
“How long have you been carrying this?” Kara asked sadly, “How long?”
“Since we went through the portal.” Alex admitted, burying her face into Kara’s shoulder.
“Is that why… you thought I hated you?” Kara whispered as the sheer awfulness of it all threatened to overwhelm her.
“I would, if I was you…” Alex murmured.
“No, Alex never…” Kara refuted, not believing Alex’s statement in the slightest. She pulled back from the hug (the first hug Kara had since landing on Terra Nova), and wiped the tears off her sister’s cheeks with a brush of her thumb. “I love you, I just I… didn’t think… I didn’t think I could help you… I didn’t think I could give you what you needed…” Kara revealed, shaking her head dismally at her continued failures.
“I didn’t want you to give me anything… I just wanted my sister…” Alex confessed, causing the walls where Kara’s heart should be to clench reliving the phantom pain of being broken. “I’m sorry, too. You needed me as well.” Alex said softly, her gaze taking in Kara’s appearance.
“I’ve been busy,” Kara muttered, shifting uncomfortably from foot to foot under the scrutiny.
“Kara, you’re not doing well.” Alex stated bluntly.
Kara knew that she had let certain things slide about herself but they were meaningless in the grand scheme of things. “I need to do this. Lena is alive and she’s waiting.”
“Kara-” Alex began gently.
“Don’t! Don’t tell me I’m wrong!” Kara demanded, stepping back and lifting her chin in defiance. “If you’re not going to help me, fine. But don’t say she’s dead. At least not to my face.”
“I wasn’t.” Alex replied, jaw dropping in shock at Kara’s sudden emotional shift which instead of scaring Alex away only made her brown eyes sharpen with even deeper concern. “I wasn’t, Kara. But you need to look after yourself.”
Kara’s gaze dropped to the floor, frowning harshly but holding her tongue, not wanting to inflict any further hurt on her sister.
“Listen… okay, listen to me.” Alex pleaded. It was her turn now to reach out to Kara, hands rubbing up and down Kara’s biceps to provide comfort, to bridge the gap between them. “You want to save Lena, right? How do you expect to do that if you’re not looking after yourself? You need to eat and sleep. You need to be at your best because that’s what she deserves.” Kara’s head tilted to the side at that, listening attentively. “You need to take time for yourself because… because when you save Lena… you should give her something strong and stable to lean onto, because she’ll need that. You need to look after yourself and your life so that when it's time... you can look after Lena.” Alex bent down catching clouded over blue eyes, deep in thought. “Okay?”
Kara didn’t reply for a long time, her mind whirring with this new perspective. She glanced at her hands that were trembling, remembered how Lena’s hands had shook under the insurmountable pressure and strain thrown on her. Lena deserved steady hands. Someone who didn’t swing from one emotional extreme to another. Someone who was ready for their heart to be returned.
“Okay… for Lena.” Kara breathed out.
Alex smiled at her, warm and tremulous, “Okay… Let’s get you something to eat.”
*
Kara became an oddity, something people whispered about with those pitiful gazes, like there was something wrong with her that could never be made right. She was a mascot, a joke, a piece of gossip shared and exaggerated, a tall tale told to children to warn them of the dangers of not letting go.
The students at the university would creep to the edge of her lab to get a glimpse of her like it was a rite of passage. Every citizen knew her story. Knew Kara Danvers and Supergirl were one and the same, Kara Zor-El. Knew of the love she held for their Saviour, Lena Luthor. Knew that her sacrifice had destroyed Supergirl and left behind a changed woman that spent her days chasing fairytales.
The kind ones called her eccentric, felt she had more than earned her time away from the spotlight and didn’t judge her for not donning her cape again - Terra Nova didn’t need superheroes anyway.
The cruel ones, who had never suffered hardship or had suffered far too much of it (it was always one extreme or the other) called her delusional and callous for leaving humanity to rebuild on their own without their red-blue hero.
She was no longer Supergirl. No longer Kara Danvers either. To everyone else, she was merely known as a woman trying to get back to Earth to save a ghost. A cautionary tale of a woman who had lost herself believing in something that was impossible.
The Tinman brought to life, seeking his heart that Dorothy had taken back to Kansas with her.
She left her lab now, after that first year of sheer self-destruction, understanding that in her pursuit of a ghost she couldn’t allow herself to become one either, because if Lena was there, waiting and Kara did manage to bring her home, then Kara wanted to have a home ready for her. She wanted to be ready for her.
So Kara leant into the support of her friends, ensured she was there for them, listened to them and gave them time and consideration. In turn, they didn’t pull her away from her work, planned around her experiments and happily came and sat in her lab, filling the air with conversation whilst Kara’s hands worked on pieces of equipment.
Kara’s years went by divided into three sectors, each uneven fraction dedicated to the tasks identified by Brainy at the very start. It took Kara two and a half years to get her knowledge to a decent enough level to truly comprehend the underpinning science and workings of the transmat portal technology. The largest chunk was next, five years on materials.
Whilst Kara’s knowledge had reached a basic level that meant she could stand shoulder to shoulder with Lena’s previous team; re-designing the portal to account for materials no longer accessible required Kara to become an expert and pioneer. No longer memorising the work of others but forging her own path.
Thankfully, her life wasn’t solely anchored by her scientific pursuits, in no small part due to Alex and the Superfriends.
The years were also hallmarked by Kara’s loved ones own lives and their achievements.
Alex and Kelly were married during that second year post arrival on Terra Nova. Alex had been delaying the event until her and Kara were back on the same page. Kara stood as Alex’s maid of honour, the couple were wed on a black sand beach that was as close to Midvale-esque as they were ever going to get.
Following the wedding, Alex, after spending a couple of years providing tactical support to the Coalition, decided to return to medicine in a research-based capacity. The change provided a simpler routine that was more conducive to building a family and Alex (after the loss of her home planet) wanted to feel like she was putting something positive into the world and not just removing the negatives.
The third year saw Brainy and Nia’s engagement. Yet again, Kara stood as maid of honour, for Nia this time - Brainy chose to stand alone, everyone knowing that it would have been Lena standing by his side in that moment and that any substitution would not have measured up to his best friend.
The fourth year was when Alex finally approached Kara about her living situation. There were plenty of houses now, people having settled into their own communities, having staked their claim on their own piece of land. Kara was rich, Lena having left her considerable wealth to Kara that had been translated into the Terra Novan Currency (TNC) - no one was going to deny the saviour their fortune. The Coalition had repeatedly made it clear that Kara would be granted approval for a residence more or less anywhere she pleased. She had yet to take them up on the offer.
She was happy with the small, barely used apartment near the university that she only visited whenever Alex came to inform her she was well overdue a shower.
“You need a home, Kara.” Alex had insisted, putting her foot down when Kara had yet again hosted sister’s night in her lab, having still not furnished her flat with anything resembling a couch. Kara had grumbled and groaned until Alex had pulled out her trump card. “Lena needs a home. When you bring her back, are you really going to make her crash in your lab?”
Kara applied for a piece of land near the coast, an hour’s journey from the city (only a twenty-five minute flight). Building a house there on the cliff where you could hear the water crashing against the rocks became a bonding activity amongst the Superfriends, an activity to bring them all together and away from their demanding jobs. It was the only time Kara felt something close to happiness… contentment. Sitting there on a bench, listening to the waves around a bonfire, sipping a beer with Alex, Kelly, Brainy and Nia (they were occasionally joined by Barry and Iris) talking about everything and nothing.
Lena was a topic that could only be approached when they could tell Kara was settled and hopeful, it was never something to talk about when Kara started to grow morose and restless. They all spoke about the sights they wanted to show Lena, all the stories they would tell her.
They would talk about what Lena might be upto in the bunker, how with all this time she had probably become fluent in nearly every language, mastered the violin, built herself a robot dog, finally got around to watching crappy reality television (that she had promised she would never watch). The suggestions were only ever light and happy. They were all aware that if Lena was alive down there, shut off from the light without hope of being saved, the psychological damage would be severe.
That was the other thing… if…
Kara knew it was only her that truly believed Lena was still alive. Alex was the next most convinced purely because Kara needed her to believe. Brainy and Nia were doubtful but too kind to openly declare their doubts. Kelly played her cards close to her chest, it was hard to tell what she actually believed when it came to Lena’s fate. Her main concern, without a doubt, was Kara’s mental health.
Kara had put all of herself into saving Lena. The only thing keeping her going was saving the youngest Luthor, the only thing that could make Kara look after herself was by linking it to Lena in some way.
Kara knew it wasn’t healthy, knew that if Lena wasn’t alive… she would most likely return to that catatonic state. It was just… she had lost so much… so, so, so much… and losing Lena was just the straw (entire barn of hay) that broke the camel’s back.
It was Kelly that picked Kara up once a week and frog-marched her to see a psychiatrist who was attempting to get Kara to steadily start living for herself and not just for Lena. It was in vain but Kara took onboard the lessons as much as she could.
By the end of the fifth year, Kara’s house (built for her and Lena) was complete. Kara forced herself to fly back there every night, wanting the place to feel warm and lived in and a home.
By the sixth year, Kelly was pregnant and Kara was set to be an aunt any day now.
“I’ll be there, I promise.” Kara reassured her sister for the fourth time. Alex was on speakerphone providing company from afar as Kara ran an experiment with some of the new materials she had recently collected to assess their suitability. They were having a distanced sister’s night, what with Alex wanting to stay at home to look after Kelly, who was set to go into labour any day now. Alex’s nervousness was manifesting itself in her over-preparedness, regularly checking that the route to the hospital was free of traffic every fifteen minutes, that their to-go bag was prepped and that Kara wasn’t running off anywhere on another materials expedition anytime soon.
“Thanks, Kara.” Alex breathed in relief.
“Have you decided on a name yet?” Kara questioned.
“No,” Alex sighed defeatedly, “we keep going back and forth. I think we'll know when we meet her, you know? At least I hope so.”
“I’m sure you will.” Kara reassured, peering through a microscope, nimble fingers adjusting the magnification.
“Hey…” Alex said slowly, her tone shy and awkward enough that it earned Kara’s full attention.
“What?”
“Did you and Lena ever…” Alex began softly, her voice trailing off as if the rest of the sentence wasn’t necessary. Kara stayed quiet, eyeing the phone warily, waiting her sister out. She heard the inhale of breath her sister took as if to suck in courage as well as air for what she was about to say next, “Did you and Lena ever talk about kids?”
Kara pursed her lips, and crossed her arms, gaze dropping to the floor, “Lena and I weren’t together.”
“I know…” Alex murmured back, there was a beat, before a whisper, “but did you?”
Kara swallowed thickly, blinking rapidly to dispel the tears and ease the phantom pain in her chest, “Yeah… yeah, we did.”
*
“Ugh… another five minutes.” Kara grumbled, pulling Lena, who was attempting to get up out of their small cot, closer into her body.
“See, I knew your chirpy morning personality was a lie.” Lena chuckled, and Kara’s slumbering heart ached at how exhausted she sounded before the day had even begun.
“You caught me.” Kara whispered, smiling as she nuzzled into Lena’s back. “Sleep is glorious and there is nothing that should interrupt it.”
Kara didn’t need to look at the youngest Luthor’s face to know she was rolling her eyes. “And here I thought you wanted children at some point in the future...”
“Children that respect the sanctity of a good night’s sleep.” Kara replied, letting out a sleepy huff that caused Lena to shiver.
“Good luck with that.” Lena teased, her hands moving to cover Kara’s that were wrapped around her waist. “Your children will be blue-eyed devils.”
“Luke and Lori.” Kara yawned without thinking.
“Hmm?”
“The blue-eyed devils.” Kara explained.
“You’ve already picked out the names?” Lena asked quietly, mildly surprised.
“Not hard, limited options.”
“How so?” Lena laughed, twisting round so that they were nose to nose.
Kara’s closed eyes fluttered upon feeling Lena’s warm breath against her face, she hid her reaction to it with a helpless shrug, “Had to both start with L.”
“L?” Lena scoffed, “Why would they-”
Lena’s voice cut out, realising the answer without needing to ask the question.
Kara opened one eye, catching sight of the shocked, awestruck expression on Lena’s face. “It’s tradition, isn’t it?” Kara murmured shyly.
“Yeah… yeah, it is.” Lena breathed, a tentative smile lighting up her face as she reached out to tuck a lock of golden hair behind Kara’s ear. “I like the names Lori and Luke.”
“You do?” Kara beamed, blue eyes opening fully and twinkling.
“Yeah, they’re the perfect names for our little blue-eyed devils.”
*
“I can do it.” Kara announced, landing hard and panting heavily causing her group of friends who were gathered around the bonfire outside Kara’s home to jump to their feet.
“Kara, what-” Alex began, holding little Amelia closer to her chest as the toddler reached out with grabby hands for her favourite aunt.
Kara ignored everyone and marched right up to Brainy, declaring wide-eyed and frantic, “I solved all three problems. I can save her.”
Brainy’s expression went slack, his eyes darting around the group which had fallen conspicuously silent. “Kara, I…” He began nervously.
“I know none of you believe me.” Kara said bluntly, finally pointing out the large elephant that was always in attendance whenever Kara interacted with them. “I know that.” Kara sighed, looking around her loved ones with a sad, understanding smile. “I especially know you’re afraid of what happens when that portal opens and I find out that Lena-” Kara shook her head - she had held onto her faith for over nine years now, she was not going to forsake it when she was in the final stretch. “I’m going, regardless. I can have the portal built in a month…” Kara revealed before looking back at Brainy pleadingly, “two weeks if you help me. I know you don’t believe me and I’m not going to ask you to. But I am going to ask you to help me.” Kara’s shoulders caved forwards, as she wrung her hands together on the precipice of actually begging. “Please, please help me…”
Brainy blinked once, let out a shuddering breath and then, “Okay…”
“We’ll all help…” Alex announced stepping forward to squeeze Kara’s shoulder.
*
“Is that-” Kara started to ask as Brainy stepped forward holding out a familiar red and blue outfit Kara hadn’t laid eyes on for years, hadn’t worn for even longer.
The portal was ready, they were just waiting for the Coalition to divert the required power supply they needed. The Coalition had originally refused to give Kara the increased power she required since they, and the rest of humanity, fully believed Lena to be dead and that Kara’s obsession could only result in disaster - Brainy and Eliza had been the ones to convince them, leveraging their positions as Chief Scientist and Chief Medical Officer to gain their agreement.
“I figured… it was a special occasion.” Brainy murmured, smiling wanely at her.
He and the rest of the Superfriends, including Eliza, had taken two weeks of holiday from their respective jobs so that they could help in whatever they could to get the portal active.
“Thanks, Brainy.” Kara replied sincerely, accepting the familiar outfit and going to get changed.
It didn’t fit as well as it used to.
She was thinner so it hung off in places, and the dark shadows to her face made the colours just that little bit less vibrant than Kara remembered them being. She was glad to be wearing it though. It was what she had worn the last day she had seen Lena over nine years ago. It felt right that she should be wearing it nine years later when they finally reunited.
“You have to promise me something.” Alex said as she stepped up to stand by Kara’s side as Brainy checked over the final calibrations Kara had made, before they turned the portal on. “If she’s… gone… you still need to come back, okay?” Alex demanded; Kara stared at her sister’s profile to see that her expression had hardened in an attempt to hold back a wave of emotion but the tremble to her bottom lip belied how futile the fight was. “I need my sister. I need you. So… no matter what you find… you come back and we’ll figure out the next step together.” Alex glanced over at Kara revealing watery brown eyes. “Promise me. I need you to say it.”
Kara hesitated for a long moment but the thought of inflicting the pain she had experienced after losing Lena on Alex… on little Amelia, gave her the strength to nod once, firm and sure. “I promise, no matter what I’ll come back through.”
“Okay,” Alex breathed out a shuddering breath before pulling Kara into a tight hug and muttering, “I love you.”
“I love you, too.” Kara replied, wrapping her arms tightly around her sister and knowing that in an hour or so, she would be different.
She would either have her heart back or know, without a doubt, that it had been lost forever.
When she stepped through the portal, a metal wire connecting her to her lab in Terra Nova, she waved once at her family and friends. None of them waved back, all just nodded mournfully.
They were all convinced that Kara would find nothing good on the other side. Convinced that they would lose this tinman version of Kara to something far worse.
They didn’t wave because... who waves at a funeral?
Kara, though, gripped tighter onto her faith.
Lena is alive and she is waiting.
And now… now… she was literally mere steps away.
Absence supposedly makes the heart grow fonder, but that wasn’t true in Kara’s case. Her heart had been in stasis, countless lightyears away. Her love was paused. Ready to unfurl and grow the second her heart was returned to her.
*
“Okay, I got the angle slightly wrong…” Kara admitted with a wince, nowhere near as invincible as she used to be - kryptonite no longer required to inflict damage that a particularly powerful gun or explosion could do.
“You fell face first, didn’t you?” Alex’s voice sassed over the comms line as Kara let out a pained groan.
“Yep, face planted…” Kara lifted her head, disappointed to find herself staring down a dim corridor. She had forgotten how cold the concrete walls of the bunker were after all this time (the bunker had always been warm to Kara, mostly because of how close she always stood to Lena). It was then that Kara noticed the tiny marks carved into the concrete wall; they filled nearly all of the available wall space and ran down the length of the corridor.
“You know you can fly, right?” Alex reminded her, trying far too hard to keep their conversation light, to keep Kara light...
“I know I can fly but I wasn’t thinking about flying and didn’t react in time…” Kara huffed struggling to her knees; turning her head to see if the marks continued down the other side of the corridor, “and-”
The rest of her sentence died right there, turning to ash as she saw a figure at the other end of the corridor watching her.
“Kara, is everything okay? What’s happening?”
Kara knew the scenes in medical dramas where they shocked someone back to life were unrealistic and played for drama more than for accuracy, but… it was the closest description Kara could think of to explain what she went through in that moment.
Her heart was thrown back into her chest and shocked to life.
Lena was standing in front of her.
Lena was alive and she had been waiting.
She looked… looked like a miracle to Kara.
She was even paler now, no regular exposure to sunlight to keep a healthy complexion but other than that… she looked good. She was thinner but not in the same way as Kara. Her curves had receded to be replaced by muscles, her dark hair was still long but tied back in a practical ponytail, white hairs dotted here and there like stylish highlights rather than markers of growing old.
Her green eyes, however, were dimmed and her fingers kept tapping away awkwardly and uncoordinated in a blatant display of a nervous tic. She was wearing a heavily faded Midvale High School shirt, doc martens, worn-out jeans with a heavy duty belt from which various random tools and pieces of machinery were clipped to.
“You’re here… You’re really here…” Kara breathed out, her blue eyes drinking in the sight of Lena shifting shyly from foot to foot as she stroked the smooth metal surface of a piece of machinery standing as sentinel by her side for comfort.
“Lena?! She’s alive!”
Kara barely even registered the exclamation from her ear piece, her full focus entirely on the woman before her.
“Kara.” Lena murmured and oh, Rao… if hearing her name fall from Lena’s lips wasn’t the single greatest sound in the universe.
“Lena, you’re here…” Kara whispered totally awestruck, getting to her feet and taking slow, careful steps towards Lena, her fingers instinctively reaching out for the raven-haired woman.
“I don’t under-... this isn’t real… you’re not real… you can’t be real…” Lena stammered, shuffling backwards and away from Kara.
Kara couldn’t help the gasp of pain, her heart so close to being fully returned only to back away from her. It wasn’t even Lena putting space between them after so, so, so long apart… it was the fear and confusion in those green eyes that Kara had dreamt about every night that inflicted the true hurt.
The gasp of pain also came with the realisation that Lena wasn’t quite the same, that being alone and isolated had left its indelible mark… That Kara hadn’t saved all of her and that Lena hadn’t believed Kara would save her… and that… that broke Kara.
“Did I answer the knock? Is this a dream? Milo analyse the surroundings and conditions.” Lena ordered, dropping her gaze to her tablet as she tapped frantically against the screen, mumbling her every thought out loud. “Hallucination, most likely… potential causes… sleep deprivation? Unlikely, I have a set sleep schedule. Radioactivity has finally penetrated the bunker and has caused a multitude of health problems. Possible, though I take regular readings of-”
“Lena! Please, stop…” Kara cried, collapsing to her knees in front of Lena. “I’m here, okay? I’m really here!”
“No! No!” Lena shouted in return, “This isn’t real! Because… because… You’re meant to be married! You’re meant to be happy! You’re not meant to be here…” Lena’s breaths came out sharp and panicky, so obviously overwhelmed and Kara just wanted to soothe her.
If it was nine years ago Kara would know exactly how to do that. Back then Lena needed a grounding touch, needed to feel like she wasn’t alone, that someone was there to hold her and support her through it…
But would this Lena want that?
Would Lena jerk away from her touch?
Barbed wire had curled around Kara’s heart making her wary of getting too close until she had tenderly uncoiled every piece of twisted metal that had been threaded through it.
Here’s the thing though… The barbed wire hurt Kara to touch but Lena, her heart, was living with it, had endured the wire being inserted and had learnt to survive its constant barbs, now here Kara was disturbing it all. Anything Kara did would inevitably hurt Lena in some small way - confusion, panic and uncertainty - the very least she could do is hold Lena closer, if that's what she wanted, and share the pain.
Kara’s fingers reached out, and made gentle contact. It was the softest that Kara had ever touched anything, because this… Lena… deserved everything to be soft and tender and beautiful….
She wanted to pull Lena’s hands away from her face but she didn’t want to force Lena in any way, she just wanted her to know that Kara was really there and was not going anywhere.
Thankfully, miraculously… Lena leaned into her rather than away and Kara was gifted the scent of citrus with a hint of oil as Lena rested her forehead on Kara’s shoulder, accepting Kara’s support.
Her Lena was definitely still there and the barbed wire was not as copious as Kara had initially feared.
“Lena, how could I be happy without you?” Kara whispered, her fingers moving ever so carefully from Lena’s biceps, round to her back… so tenderly wrapping Lena up in her arms, finally, finally able to breathe after years of holding her breath. “Let me take you home, please, please Lena… let me take you away from here, please…” Kara begged, pressing featherlight lips against Lena’s forehead. “Let’s go see that sunset, yeah?”
Lena pulled away and before Kara had a chance to feel hurt about the distance, the kryptonian felt calloused, wonderful palms cupping her face and wiping away the tears that Kara hadn’t even realised she was shedding until Lena’s thumbs wiped them away. “You still want to? Even after all this time?”
Kara barely resisted the urge to laugh at the sheer preposterousness of the question.
“It’s all I’ve thought about.” Kara confessed and she felt her face ache with the size of the smile trying to take over her face.
And if Kara thought that seeing Lena, being reunited with her heart, couldn’t get any better she was about to be proven totally wrong because green eyes dipped down and honed in with intent. For the first time in nearly a decade Kara’s stomach swooped with that heady mixture of arousal and nerves that only Lena could evoke.
Kara breathed in sharply and leaned forward when-
“Sha-la-la-la-la-la, music play, do what the music say, you wanna kiss the girl.” Kara’s head whipped around to see a… a… robot dog singing????
Kara’s eyebrows shot up as the greyhound-shaped piece of metal with glowing green LED eyes, banged its tail excitedly on the floor as it moved its shiny head from Lena to Kara and back again.
“Thanks, Milo.” Lena chuckled wetly; Kara had forgotten what Lena’s throaty laugh sounded like and she could feel her whole body lighten up after hearing it that she had to will herself not to start hovering off the floor. “I have a robot dog, now.” Lena explained needlessly, cheeks turning an embarrassed pink that made Kara truly have faith that everything would be okay between them regardless of whatever came next.
“I can see that.” Kara replied with a laugh, her hand reaching out to brush through Lena’s dark hair, as she asked her voice brimming with hope, “Are you ready to go?”
“Yeah, yeah, I am…” Lena admitted with a fervent nod of her head before pressing a delicate kiss to Kara’s cheek. “I want to see that sunset.”

I used to be a diehard lena stan thinking that she did nothing wrong and seeing your posts on how what she was doing used to make me so angry. I still am a diehard lena stan lmao im gay and my adhd will never let me not love her, but now i recognize what she was doing was horrible and she seriously has to make up for what she was doing. Lena is such a complex being and i really hope that they do her character right snd give her the development she deserves to go through
Anon, this is like. I am genuinely touched, thank you so much for leaving this comment. I’m really encouraged by - like I don’t want to come across as patronizing bc I don’t know you but also changing your perspective on Lena like that is growth and it’s super lovely to hear about? IDK how to articulate this quite the way it feels in my heart but like thank you anon.
(This is also shaped by my experience last year which is very much like. . .look. That perspective on Lena is fine, live your truth, enjoy this show the way it feels best in your heart. But also having that sentiment be really front and center on my dash last year despite my best filtering efforts made it much less fun to do fandom when I didn’t share that perspective tbh.)
I’m sort of torn because honestly I’m always going to approach this show from a place of really caring about Kara above all the other characters, and so my real hopes for this season are that once we get her back, she has a beautiful ending. And so I’m not sure that I want Lena’s growth to happen onscreen, because I feel like from a practical narrative real estate standpoint that would take time away from Kara’s journey in the show’s final season in a way that I wouldn’t find satisfying as a viewer.
But in a non-meta way of like. Thinking of Lena as a character, what growth do I want for her? It’s absolutely that journey of healing and complexity and quiet but extremely difficult personal growth. In a perfect world where we had another season, the way I’d probably want to see it written would be as Lena’s Summer Vacation (because imo this is a story best filled in with fanfiction rather than filmed; the quiet journey is a story that I think is best told in the printed word). So like, Lena stepping away from the superfriends either in a midseason break or in a season finale, taking some time to heal, and then returning having done some growing? Because the story I think would be really cool to watch on TV would be one where Lena’s gone on that journey and has to renegotiate how she relates to her friends and how she can fit into that saving-the-world journey in a way that supports her healing.
