“Say it again.” The words leave Buck’s trembling lips, millimeters from Eddie’s own, hushed and awestruck.

Eddie cradles Buck’s cheek, relishes the way Buck presses into it like he wants them to physically meld into one person. One entity that’s not just Buck-and-Eddie but BuckandEddie.

The corner of his mouth turns up in a soft, adoring smile he only has for Buck. For the man who turned his world upside down from day one and never stopped.

“I love you, husband.”

Buck melts the tiniest bit more into Eddie’s palm, exhaling a content, breathy sigh. He rests his own hand over Eddie’s, perfectly placed so their shiny new wedding bands lightly clack together. His eyes flutter closed before placing the gentlest, featherlight kiss on Eddie’s skin.

“I love you, too, husband.”

At first my heart sank when the closing scene began with the Revenge sailing away, because I thought Ed and Stede were still aboard. And we’d just spent two seasons watching Ed tell anyone who would listen (was anyone listening?) that he didn’t want to be a pirate anymore. It really started to seem like PopPop was the voice of the narrative (if you were ever good at anything, go back and do that —) and every damn time Ed tried to start off in pursuit of happiness they’d just hoist him back aboard ship and put a bloody sword back in his hand.

And then the camera pulled back and he was standing on his own (terrifyingly rickety) front porch in the sunset with his true love on a quiet stretch of land. And now I’m at peace. Last season I was haunted by the last shot of Ed trapped, and grieving, and lost, and this time the last I saw of him was that smile. He’s not the seabird who flies on forever and never reaches land. He’s come to shore.

No, y'know what? I love Season 2. I thought there was nothing wrong with Season 2 until I saw folks on here complaining about Season 2. I don't even care about the changes they might or might not have had to make, or the occasional pacing issues (Season 1 has pacing issues too, in places, but it's still great!).

THIS was the season that changed me. THIS was the one that made me go "huh, I need to think more about who I am."

Really tired of all the various caveats of "if only..." and "well, if Max hadn't..." and "this plot would've worked better..."

No. I love it. If it has to end there, I'm glad that's where it ends. I'd love to have more, but this worked so fucking well.

I love Season 2.
