Delta Landscaping | Chapter 2
The Neighborhood Watch Begins
Series Summary: In this AU, the boys of Delta Force start a new business post-Colombia.

Chapter Warnings: Two of the characters we meet in this chapter are widows, and there is a brief mention of how both of their husbands passed.
A/N: Thank you so much for all the love and amazing feedback on Chapter 1! It seriously tickles me that there are others who find this universe as hilarious and fun as I do.
Although the Triple Frontier boys are the stars of the show, I wanted to explore some of their neighbors’ stories as well. Who knows, maybe some of these characters may play a larger role down the line. One of the neighbors we meet in this chapter, Lucille, is particularly dear to me because she is loosely based on my late abuela.
Finally, one last thing before this chapter – we go slightly back in time from where we ended Chapter 1. This chapter starts a few weeks after Will and Benny move in. Ok, I’m done rambling now … back to Torrey Hills and the shenanigans of Mulefall Court. *cue the Real Housewives music bump*
“¡Mierda! I have more cilantro than I know what to do with,” Lucille says to herself as she grabs some cilantro from her herb garden. “Ay, Julio, I think I’m going to make the boys some food today. Sweet Francisco liked the frijoles I brought over last week and if I have time, I can make some empanadas. Benny practically inhaled them the last time I took them over,” Lucille chuckles to herself.
She had gotten better about not talking to Julio, it had been a year and a half since he passed, but every once in a while she would still talk to him like he was right there next to her.
Lucille and Julio Alvarez were one of the first residents to move to Torrey Hills back in the 90s. The pair saw every neighbor come and go from the block. Julio was the unofficial mayor of Mulefall Court, always inviting neighbors over to his house for get-togethers. And Lucille was the perfect hostess – the life of the party, who could carry a conversation with anyone with anyone, dance, and still manage to find enough time to put together a spread worthy of a Food Network cooking show.
Although they never had children of their own, the couple loved kids and quickly became pseudo-grandparents to the children on the block, including Megan’s son Connor.
Megan and her late husband Jacob moved to Torrey Hills when Connor was four. From the outside, they seemed like a perfect family – young, successful, good-looking, and happy.
Then, Megan’s life was drastically turned upside down one Saturday in January. Jacob went cycling early in the morning, a light mist resting above the ground. It was a weekend routine of his, to go for an early ride before he and Megan would take Connor somewhere fun like the zoo or aquarium.
Unfortunately, he did not make it home that morning. A distracted driver collided with him and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Suddenly, Megan found herself thrust into life as a single mother, trying to piece her life together while continuing to raise her son.
Lucille and Julio helped however they could – babysitting Connor when Megan had to unexpectedly work late or finding an excuse to take him on an adventure to the park or ice cream shop, any way to get him out of the house so Megan had some time to herself.
As Connor grew up, Lucille and Julio were right there. Julio, a former professional baseball player, was the one who taught Connor how to throw a baseball. He tried to influence the boy’s athletic endeavors and supported him in whatever he wanted to do, even though it did break his heart a little when Connor developed an obsession with basketball.
They celebrated birthdays, took day trips to Disney World, and Lucille and Julio were there the day Megan surprised Connor with the dog he had always dreamed of, a corgi he named Bucky after his favorite Marvel character.
The kindness, care, and compassion Lucille extended to Megan was reciprocated nearly a decade to the day after Jacob's death. After a quiet battle with cancer, Julio passed away peacefully with Lucille at his side. It was the first time in 50 years that Lucille had been away from Julio for more than a couple of days.
The couple grew up down the street from each other in Cuba, their families were longtime friends. They both immigrated around the same time, but lost contact. Julio came to the United States by himself ahead of his mother and spent a few years in Sacramento, while Lucille and her family went to Miami. After his mother finally came to the United States, Julio made the trip out to meet her in Miami. It didn’t take long for Julio and Lucille to find each other again and once Lucille turned 18, they decided to get married.
Megan and Connor stepped up for her while they were both mourning as well. They visited Lucille throughout the week, sometimes just to stop by to say hi, other times stopping by to cook a meal together, play board games, or watch the Game Show Network, Lucille always loved Family Feud.
Connor placed a lot of pressure on himself to not only be the man of his own home, but Lucille’s as well. Over the years, Julio tried to teach Connor how to do minor home repairs, to varying degrees of success. Without Julio, Connor took to YouTube and TikTok to not only learn how to fix things but also come up with little fun projects he could do to bring a smile to Lucille’s face, or Lulu as he called her. He taught himself how to make a planter box for her herbs as a surprise and tried his hand at mending her fence following a tropical storm.
Lucille and Megan went through a lot over the past 12 years experiencing a range of emotions from heartbreak to pure happiness. Also, over that time, the duo became the defacto neighborhood welcoming committee. Although they weren’t super close with every single one of their neighbors, they tried to extend some semblance of hospitality to everyone who moved in – including to the two handsome men who moved directly next door to Lucille.
Will and Benny were quick to befriend Lucille after she greeted them one day with a tray of lemonade and cookies as they were out working on their front lawn with their two equally handsome friends in tow. She found the boys were courteous neighbors, always asking if she needed help around the house.
Although she didn’t want all of the fuss, she would humor them by having them fix small things for her like changing a lightbulb or fixing a leak in her bathroom. She was careful to not give them too many jobs, keeping small tasks aside for her favorite neighbor and frequent visitor, Connor.
But, she was in awe at the complete transformation of 319 Mulefall Court from its sad, dilapidated look to a pristine, beautiful home any HGTV show would love to feature. And as much as she loved Connor, the boy oftentimes caused more problems than he fixed. So, when she was sitting on her front porch reading a book, she stopped Benny on his way home after a jog.
“Hola Ms. Lucille,” Benny waved to his neighbor. He had taken his shirt off during his run, tucking it into the waistband of his athletic shorts, so he quickly slipped it back on as he made his way up her driveway.
“I speak English, Benjamin,” Lucille snorted. She liked to tease him about speaking Spanish, but she was actually quite impressed with how much Spanish Benny actually understood. When she would kid with Francisco and Santiago, she found Benny laughing along with them, following the conversation. He definitely knew more than he let on, but was always a bit apprehensive about trying to speak, especially around his friends.
“Sorry, I have to practice when I can. I just … I feel like I’ve learned more living next to you these last few weeks than all the years I’ve known Fish and Pope,” he laughed nervously as he took off his hat and ruffled his hair.
“I’m just playing with you, mi cielo. Besides, those two probably just taught you all of the bad words,” she winked.
“You’re not wrong there,” he smiled. “Hey, when I was in the back yesterday I noticed another part of your fence that looks like it may need some mending. Want me to come over sometime this week?”
“Oh you don’t have to bother with all of that, it’s fine,” she waved him off.
“C’mon, I can’t just sit there and let you have a hole in your fence. Just, let me fix it.” He leaned against the railing on her porch.
She couldn’t resist the puppy dog eyes he was giving her. She had to give it to him, he was a charmer.
“Ok, but on one condition,” she raised her eyebrow as he nodded. “You have to have Connor help you. The boy could stand to have some nice young men to look up to and learn a thing or two from.”
Benny blushed. He didn’t feel like he was a person anyone should ever look up to, not with his past and the things he had done and seen. He didn’t quite know how to respond to Lucille.
She sensed a darkness flicker over the man in front of her. Although she had only known Benny for a couple of weeks, she always saw him as a happy-go-lucky, energetic, yet sweet and considerate man. But seeing how he reacted to her comment, she knew there was something that troubled him.
“Besides,” she decided to cut the awkward silence. “He spends too much time with me, and as hip as I am, I can’t quite relate to him all of the time anymore. It was easier when he was younger.”
“I gotcha, Ms. Lucille. I’ll talk to Megan about getting Connor over here with us and we’ll all fix the fence as…um…un equipo,” he smiled.

The next morning on her walk with Bucky, Megan spotted Benny in the garage cleaning the lawn mower.
"Careful or we may all end up hiring you to do our lawns too!" She called over to him with a wink.
He was crouched down facing away from her, a wet patch forming on the small of his back from the sweat. He stopped what he was doing and turned around to see who was talking. Seeing it was Megan (and Bucky), he quickly got up, wiped his hands on a towel, and walked to the front of the driveway.
"Oh hey Mrs. Me- I mean, hey Megan! Ha, I figure you all already have people to do that."
“By people, you mean a 16-year-old who I pay in pizza rolls and video games,” she laughed. “By the way, I’ve been meaning to tell you, I like what you've done with the place, the flowers are really pretty."
Benny was proud of the work he and the boys had done, so any excuse to hear compliments made him grin from ear to ear.
"Thanks, it's been a fun…distraction. I like having projects, I’m actually going to help Ms. Lucille this week and fix her fence with the boys. Do you think that’s something Connor may want to help with? I heard he’s kinda handy. I don’t want to creep in on his territory…”
"Uh oh, are you going to make me the one to tell him there is some hot new competition on the block doing home repairs!"
Benny blushed and took his hat off briefly to comb through his hair before putting it back on.
“I think it’s nice that you want to help Lucille. God love him, but Connor tries to help but he isn’t as … skilled as you guys. He’s had to learn everything by himself.”
“I’m happy to teach him – I’m not a professional by any means, I leave that to my cousins,” Benny cracked a smile. “But I know my way around some tools, enough to be handy.”
“Yea, I think he’d like that. Since Julio passed, Connor doesn’t really have too many men to talk to besides his coach. I think he’d like to … I don’t know, talk with you guys? No pressure or anything, I’m not looking to impose.”
Benny smiled, knowing there was a lot left unsaid. He hadn’t asked too much about either Megan or Ms. Lucille’s past, he just knew both women were widows. But he knew even less about Connor. From what he had seen, he seemed like a good kid, he clearly was if Megan raised him.
“Cool, well maybe between him and the guys and me we can get it done faster so he can go back to playing video games or whatever the hell else kids do these days,” he chuckled. “I’ll text you when we figure out which day we’re going to do it, we’ll probably need to make a Home Depot run or something so maybe he can come with us for that too?”
"Awesome, hey thanks. I think he’ll find it fun," she smiled back at him and turned to continue her walk.
"Wait!" He called, wanting to catch her before she walked away.
"I have something for Bucky, hold up."
He jogged back to the opened garage to a container marked "treats" and pulled out a Milkbone bar.
"This ok to give him?" He showed Megan the treat as Bucky perked up, his little legs going tippy tap on the pavement.
"Oh shit, now he's going to make a beeline here every walk," she sighed.

Later that day, Megan and Connor came over to visit Lucille after she called saying she had some leftover empanadas, one of Connor’s weaknesses. As the duo walked towards Lucille’s, Megan took stock of the cars parked in the 319 Mulefall Court driveway, thanks in part to Connor who helped her identify the makes and models: a red Jeep Wrangler, a black TransAm, a green Colorado truck, and a white Volvo C70 convertible.
“Looks like it’s a full house over there, wonder if they’re having a party,” Megan nodded toward the driveway. “Speaking of, I was talking to Benny, he asked if maybe you wanted to go over and help the guys with a project at Lulu’s this week.”
“What project? She hasn’t told me anything needed to be fixed,” Connor looked confused.
“Oh, he mentioned it was something about her fence – I guess he can see it from his backyard. Could be fun for you to have some help? Could learn something…”
Megan hadn’t had a chance to broach the subject with her son and she was a little unsure how he would react.
Connor took a second before responding. “Y-yea, I mean. If they don’t mind.”
“Oh no, it was Benny’s idea!”
“Uh, ok. Yea, that’s cool.”
Megan smiled to herself, seeing her son walk with a little more pep in his step at the idea that the four older guys wanted to maybe spend time with him.
As they walked into Lucille’s house, they smelled more than just leftover empanadas. Megan rolled her eyes. She should have known better. Rather than just “a few of leftover empanadas” Lucille had made a whole spread.
“Wow, it smells amazing in here, Lulu!”
Lucille came from around the corner, wiping her hands on her apron with a big grin on her face.
“I just whipped up a few things, it’s simmering, and should be done soon. Ven mijito,” she motioned to Connor to sit down as she grabbed a plate. “I made empanadas de picadillo, you’re favorite.”
“Yes!” Connor eagerly sat at the table, as Lucille put the plate in front of him.
“Megan dear, would you mind coming upstairs with me? I’m sorting through some old jewelry and I was wondering if you wanted anything.”
“Uh, sure...” she knew Lucille was up to something because Megan hardly wore jewelry.
The two ladies made their way up the stairs and into Lucille’s bedroom, straight towards the two large windows that formed the corner of her room.
“Do you keep your jewelry in the window frames?” Megan snorted. She really had no idea what Lucille was up to.
“No tonta, something better is over here,” she motioned out of the window.
Walking over to the windows, Megan saw a perfectly unobstructed view into the next-door neighbor’s backyard where four men were relaxing and enjoying a chill pool day. She quickly scanned to see what they all were up to.
Frankie was by the grill, beer in hand. He opened the grill to flip some of the burgers and skewers, taking his signature hat off to wipe the sweat from his forehead. It didn’t look like he had gotten in the pool yet. He was wearing a plain white T-shirt with blue and green striped swim trunks and some flip flops. He was bobbing his head to the music playing from the bluetooth speakers perched on the porch.
Santiago was laying on a pool float in black swim trunks, a little shorter in length than Frankie’s. He had his sunglasses on so it was hard to tell if he was taking a nap or not, but he had one arm folded behind his head and the other one resting on his stomach.
The Miller brothers were throwing a football around in the yard. Will, dressed in just red swim trunks, stayed by the back porch near Frankie as his brother, donned in hot pink swim trunks and a black backward baseball cap, ran different routes across the backyard. After urging his brother to throw a harder pass, Benny bobbled it, resulting in the ball landing in the pool, splashing Santiago – who clearly had been taking a nap.
Lucille’s windows were closed, so they couldn’t hear what the boys were saying but it was clearly some good-natured ribbing. Santiago swam to the edge of the pool, pulling himself out of the water and then promptly chasing after Benny, tackling him in the lawn as they laughed. Eventually the two got up and headed back toward the porch, but as they passed the pool Santiago pushed Benny in – his final revenge for having his nap interrupted.
“How long have you been holding out on me Lulu?” Megan smirked, knocking her shoulder into the older woman.
“It’s a pretty nice show isn’t it.” she giggled. "Wait, what are you doing?"
"Taking a picture for Katie. I think she may have a crush on Will and what kind of friend would I be if I didn't report a discovery like this?" Megan smirked.
Katie was the newest member of the neighborhood until the Millers moved in. After her divorce, she packed her life up and decided to move to Florida on her own. She wanted to escape the cold and, more importantly, anything that would remind her of her ex. Since she worked from home, it seemed like an easy decision.
She originally had her sights set on 319 Mulefall Court and its expensive backyard. She didn't mind projects, but that house was a little too far gone for her so she decided on the other fixer-upper on the block, 323 Mulefall Court.
Megan liked Katie and quickly brought her into the fold, including the coveted neighborhood group chat. Though Megan didn’t date too often, she found herself going out occassionally with Katie, acting as her wingwoman. Megan also tried setting Katie up with her coworkers and friends of friends, but nobody ever seemed to catch Katie’s eye.
But, when Megan met Will she just knew she had to introduce him to Katie. They were both good looking, so she had no doubts there would be a physical attraction. For the little she knew of Will, he seemed to be considerate and respectful and although he was more reserved than his boisterous little brother, he had a quirky, dry sense of humor. Katie was also a bit on the quiet side, but she was a lot of fun once she felt comfortable.
Megan: *sends photo*
"This is going to be good … let's see what they say," she smirked, showing Lucille her phone.
"Ay díos mio. You all are too much!"
"I see David typing, I knew he would be the first one!"
David: Where are you, why didn’t you invite me, and can I come?
Tyson: 👀 ok, but seriously….
Olivia: Megan!! A warning next time, holy shit the kids had my phone!
Melissa: oh my…
Megan: 🤭 I just had to. This is Lucille's view.
Tyson: Damn, Ms. Lucille! I see you with a front row to the eye candy! 👏🏼
David: Is it just him out there or are the others there too? I'm trying to see the one that always wears the hat off. 🥵
Melissa: Which one, D? There are two who always have hats on.
David: The one with the dark hair.
Tyson: Jesus Christ, David. How many times do I have to tell you his name is Frankie?!
David: Yessssss 😍
Megan: *sends photo*
Megan: Just for you D! 😘
David: PAPI!! 😍
David: You're a real one Megan!
Megan: Katie?! Are you there? You've been quiet …
Katie: I don't even know what to say … 😂
Melissa: Oooo Katie, do you think Will is hot?!
Olivia: Oh, Katie! Please say yes. If I wasn't married I'd climb that man like a tree!
Katie: You guys!! Ms. Lucille is on this group chat!
Lucille: Mi amor, I have eyes.
David: Hell yes you do queen!!
David: So when can we come over?!
Katie: We shouldn't spy on them…c'mon…
David: Boooo
Megan: Well, I have thoughts. They’re coming over to fix Lucille’s fence this week. It wouldn’t be spying if we are already over here for a…happy hour? Also thinking we invite them to a pool party of our own. 😉
Melissa: I love that idea!! We are happy to host the party, we just finished the pool this week!
Olivia: Oh that would be awesome, anything to tire out the kids so they actually sleep.
Tyson: Yess! What a great way to get to know our neighbors … right? I mean, we want to make sure they feel verrry welcome here. 😜
Megan: It’s a plan!
Megan: *changes the name of the group chat to “Neighborhood Watch”
David: LOL! Wtf is Neighborhood Watch?
Megan: It’s for Olivia - that way when she sees this chat she knows there may be something not kid friendly on it lol
Olivia: 🤦🏾♀️ You all are too damn much!!
Megan: Ok, it’s settled. I’ll let you know when the guys are going to come over to fix the fence. When you're all here we can plan the party. Now, got to go! Lucille and I are going to get back to our view!
David: Ughhh of all days for us to go to the beach. Thanks a lot Ty!
Tyson: Love you too babe!
“This is going to be fun,” Megan said triumphantly over to Lucille who was just shaking her head as she was reading through the texts.

My current obsession for Steve having his sexuality crisis in canon doesn’t involve the Robin speech. I love Robin, I am Robin, but she deserves rest, god dammit. And I have come up with a great way for her to get her rest and to be a supportive friend.

Steve and her are having movie night (is this post Eddie, is this pre Eddie, doesn’t really matter but because I love steddie I am doing post Eddie) and Steve got to pick so they’re watching Grease.
Robin hates Grease, even if the music is fun, she just finds it tacky and cliche. She won’t deny the appeal of Sandy’s leather outift at the end though.
Steve loves Grease. The music is fun and since he met Robin she’s been slowly, and very subtly, pushing him to allow himself to enjoy things that his father forced him to hate. (Am I including my Steve likes make up headcanon in this? Absolutely.) She’s gone shopping with him and encouraged him to try on the sweaters in softer colors he always stares at but never touches. He starts growing out his hair. Robin has been a breath of fresh air since they met and she has always pushed him without making it obvious so he doesn’t panic.
The next opportunity for her brand of eye opening comes when they get to Greased Lightning. They’re both pretty tipsy and Steve randomly blurts out. “Wow he’s hot.” Robin actual chokes on her mouth full of popcorn and has to chug her beer to wash it down.
“I’m sorry, what?” Steve looks at Robin with a frown, raising an eyebrow.
“What? I said he was hot, because he is.”
“Steve that’s- since when do you notice attractive men?” He’s still frowning at her, as if she’s asking completely ridiculous questions
“I mean, always? It’s just something guys do, they can recognize when a guy is hot and whatever.” Robin just blinks, then blinks again before nodding to herself. She knows what she has to do, so she says okay and they go back to watching the movie.
The next time she’s at Steve’s she brings the magazine she had bought in Chicago a couple years ago. She had found this tiny store that sold a ton of gay media and it was like being in heaven. This particular magazine had a lot of quotes from people about their experiences growing up queer and she knows for a fact that there is one story in there that should shake something loose in Steve. So she leaves the magazine on his bed when she goes to steal a sweater from him. Robin hears nothing for two days after that when at 11:30 at night she hears the pinging of rocks at her window. Rolling her eyes, she gets up and opens the window, and then sure enough in pops Steve a moment later, clambering his way inside her bedroom.
“I think I might like guys. I um… actually, I think I might like Eddie? Which might be why I thought John Travolta was so hot suddenly, because sure I’ve thought he was good looking but not like crazy insane hot before. Then suddenly we’re watching Grease and Danny Zuko is all kinds of hot, and then I found this magazine, I think you left it at mine accidentally. But it had all these stories and there was this one guy who said he had always noticed attractive men growing up but he thought that was just what all guys thought, he liked girls so he wasn’t gay, but then he met a particular guy and they ended up kissing and he realized that he maybe liked boys more than he should and when he asked someone else about guys noticing attractive men they said that is not what straight guys do and he realized that he wasn’t straight at all. And then I started thinking because that’s how I’ve always felt, right? But I didn’t think I was gay, but apparently you can actually like both so I don’t have to be gay to like guys, and then I started thinking about Grease which made me think about Eddie and, oh god, Robin, I think I might be in love with him?”
She knew the magazine would help, but not this much. She also had never heard Steve speak so much at once, they had clearly been spending too much time together if he was rambling like that.
“Okay, Steve, take a deep breath. Are you coming out to me right now?” He stops his frantic pacing that he had started as soon as her window was shut, staring at her for a second before collapsing on the bed next to her.
“I think so? The magazine said bi-bicy-bisen-“
“Bisexual?” Steve snaps and points at her with a grin.
“Yeah, that! I didn’t know that was even a thing! It just… it feels like everything makes a little more sense to me, y’know?” She smiled, ruffling his hair.
“And the Eddie thing?” Robin cackles when Steve flushes bright red.
“Shut up! I actually think I might be in love with him and I don’t know what to do. Like, I know he’s gay but I don’t know if he likes me.”
“Steve, he has been flirting with you since you two met in March.”
“What?!??” She dissolves into giggles and they spend the night together, talking about every interaction he’s ever had with Eddie.
A week has barely gone by when Steve comes into work, his hair a mess, with a giant smile and his neck covered in bruises.
“I think I have a boyfriend.” Robin just collapses into a fit of laughter. She’s so glad the magazine trick worked because she’s never seen Steve this happy.

local egomaniac experiences pure unconditional love and devotion and doesn’t know how to process it
rambling about their relationship below the cut
Betrayus has always been kind of an enigma for people to place on how he’d handle romance and love in general, especially since he flip-flops so often between just being a manchild with massive insecurities and a guy who literally committed war crimes. for me, i think he IS lonely and DOES want adoration and care given to him, but at this point has only registered these things as things you have to earn, either through respect or (in his case) fear. he GREATLY exaggerates just how much he “suffered” growing up, but does still have the mentality that kindness is just a tool for manipulation, and that love is something that you have to fight your way to get, and even then any who shows it to him does it for superficial reasons. it’s both sad, but also a good reflection on the fact he himself is a dishonest and selfish person, balancing it out so its not TOO sympathetic.
that’s kinda where Paz comes in. she’s also kind of an enigma when it comes to love. compared to Betrayus, she is FULL of it, much more than any desire for evil or to cause harm. if she loved someone normal, she’d be seen as a very kind and compassionate person who’s a bit quiet and keeps to herself. but she doesn’t love someone normal, it’s BETRAYUS. all this compassion and pure unconditional love that’s held in her tiny heart is focused on this guy, this annoying high-strung and arrogant supervillain. and when her love is focused on someone, it’s loyal and dedicated to a detrimental degree. really, the things shes done for him should classify her as just as evil, if not more. but it’s weird, as its not exactly like an axe murderer obsession kind of love…
she genuinely cares about him and his happiness. she’s genuinely tired of seeing him angry and upset at the world 24/7, and wants nothing more than to put a smile on his face. she’d never force him to do anything he didn’t want, and she doesn’t even really mind if he never loves her back that way, as long as he’s got her as support. the populace gets terrorized by ghosts, and she performs problematic-to-terrifying kinds of spells for his plans, but all purely with the intent of making him happy because she loves him. it’s a weird situation of evil actions all with an endgoal that, by itself, is extremely wholesome and well-meaning. it reflects a weird detachment in her brain that as long as it makes Betrayus happy, its necessary. she can probably be classified as insane for this.
and Betrayus’s reaction to it… once it slowly registers with him just how deep this loyalty goes, he’s stunned. even if i think he both exaggerates and lies about HOW “cruel” everyone treated him in life, i do think the experience of unconditional love outside of his family is a foreign one to him. especially love he never had to earn. he’s done much more to logically prevent someone from ever seeing him in such a light, but here was Paz, ready to fight the world and Pac-God himself just for him. it wasn’t even someone loving him for their own benefit at the expense of his comfort like Ghoulasha, or because they wanted something out of him. for once, its someone that for whatever insane reason, just wants to see him happy and content and that was it. no strings attached. such a simple goal that, despite his superego, still perplexes him greatly.
there’s probably a nugget of self awareness deep inside that ego of his that he’s definitely the Worst, and everyone thinks this. so interacting with even just one person who disproves that opens that self awareness back up, and Betrayus is left completely bewildered. how is someone managing to say such sweet and sincere things to him? how is it they don’t want ANYTHING from him but his happiness? normally he’d be suspicious its all an act, but for what other endgoal there’s no clue for. everything Paz has done has always proven to be sincere, as she barely gains anything just for herself from the experiences working as his assistant. but still, her patience never weakens, and she still gives him that same adoring smile no matter how much he screws up or acts obnoxious. so as a result, for the first time he actually has to reflect and really try to absorb the kindness someone shares with him. to figure out how it makes him feel, and how to properly respond to it. does he have to be kind back now? he knows its his nature not to be. but the sincerity of it is infectious… and a small part of him actually wants to meet her love with his own positivity, to create more of this feeling. which of course has him feeling like he’s going soft/crazy. but eventually, he does realize this IS a feeling he enjoys having, of being loved unconditionally and wanting to give that love back.
considering what he learns of Paz’s own insecurities and her self-image issues (read my fic for more context), her love for Betrayus could partially be some kind of coping mechanism, to feel like she’s making a difference with someone by giving them something the universe deemed didn’t fit its system for them to have. but that’s just a small part, she really DOES love him and all his little obnoxious mannerisms. once Betrayus does catch wind of her low image of herself though, that and his growing enjoyment of sharing in her kindness gives him that FINAL push to actually step out of his ego and focus on bringing someone else up other than himself. an out of character move that has realistic motivations and development for it!
in the end, i DO think even a war criminal like Betrayus is capable of love, as he’s shown to have a lot more sad and kind of pathetic emotions going on beneath the bad-guy shtick. its something he wants deep down, but just needs to figure out how to handle it and respond to it so it doesn’t die immediately, and with Paz he’s given the patience and loyalty to figure it out on his own terms. and in turn, he realizes the person who loves him has ACTUAL problems of her own regarding her mental health and self esteem, and his ultimate act of understanding love is to help her with that and make her feel loved. so it comes full circle, and what was once a possible unhealthy coping mechanism becomes a healthy realtionship for both. 💖

What fueled your transition into Obikin? How does writing about our boys compare to writing Obitine (the loveliest most badass woman).

Now, please forgive me while I ramble.
First of all, I love Obitine. I absolutely adore the love and respect they have for each other. Their relationship is complicated and nuanced and also just so so tragic and I've adored every fic I've written for them.
When I wrote my first Obikin fic [The Resolute Theater Presents] it was a complete departure from anything I'd written before. To that point, not only had everything been Obitine, but also in-universe AND all part of the same series [Even if You Wanted to]— the same story I'd been telling every week for almost a year.
I had just finished a fic that, if I'm being honest, really fucked me up [Bound and Broken]. I love this story so much, I'm so proud of it, but FUCK did it put me in a bad place. I needed something light and unserious and this silly Broadway AU was just looping through my mind and I decided to go for it.
While writing Resolute, something — I don't know — something happened. Something changed as far as how I was thinking about the stories I could write.
Instead of always thinking about what came next in an ongoing story, and holding myself to someone else's plot points, I was thinking about entirely different worlds.
Basically, I realized I could write anything.
That's when Haunted Heart happened and it just sort of blew the doors off my brain.
I owe a lot of this change in perspective to fellow writers like @yourfavoritefridge and @palfriendpatine66 whose continued support and encouragement have pushed me to write a lot of things am deeply proud of and would never have had the courage to write without them cheering me on.
IN SUMMARY
I would say it was less of a shift from Obitine to Obikin, and more a shift from one long canon-compliant story, to… whatever the fuck I wanted to write?
That being said, let's address the Obikin of it all.
I think it has way more to do with the dynamic than any actual shipping or subtext. As I said earlier, the Obitine dynamic is based on respect. But Obikin? That's something a lot closer to obsession.
There's something about the unhinged nature of their dynamic that tickles my brain in a specific way that I can't quite explain?
And, I'll be honest— the popularity of the Obikin ship certainly doesn't hurt, but I think what's more important is that the community is SO supportive. There is so little pressure or expectation, with a real emphasis on writing what you want. Like I said, the kudos and comments are great, but— I can write a fic that’s basically just a rant about AI, or a weird smutty first-person dissociative thriller, or a story about Obi-Wan literally fucking himself and I know it will be met with nothing but positive energy and encouragement. That’s something that keeps me coming back to Obikin.
Clearly, I still love Satine, she's shown up in my AUs here and there and I always enjoy having her around. I really love including her as someone Obi-Wan feels safe with. A friend he knows will always shoot him straight and always be there for him.
I’m sure I’ll write more Obitine when the right idea appears in my mind, but right now, I’m just chasing stories.

okay you asked for it!! so the entire song the narrator of Dorothea is just the definition of "staying back and watching you shine" like they are like!! I know you needed to get out of this town to chase your dreams and I support you in that but just know that whatever happens you'll always have a friend (not even necessarily a lover!) in me like. that's peak unconditional love and it just makes me 🥹🥹 and then the part where the narrator says "if you're ever tired of being known for who you know you know you'll always know me" is just the peak of this sentiment! like the first part saying that to them Dorothea's money and fame and status doesn't matter, all they care about is who Dorothea IS as a person and they love her for that. but then the reassurance, like this steady knowledge that no matter what happens in their lives, she is always welcome in the narrator's life. and the sentiment of just KNOWING someone. like Dorothea truly knows who the narrator is at their core the same way the narrator proves throughout the entire song that they know who Dorothea is at her core. they both see all aspects of the other person and love the other person for it. anyways, dorothea is peak romance (romantic or platonic!) and I'm obsessed with it <3

i’m very outgoing and extremely extroverted like my friends say. i’m the type of person that is always talking 😭 if you put me in a room with a stranger, the chances are extremely high that i end up befriending them (unless i feel like they don’t want to talk). but i get bad days too like other people and sometimes i just shut down and won’t talk unless spoken to.
while i am friendly, i also keep my circle small. i don’t have the ability to maintain a thousand of friendships so i have only a handful of friends that i am reallllyyyy close to.
i am very emotional and have the worst case of fomo. when i see my friends hanging out without me, i immediately feel like it’s the end of the world which is stupid and currently trying to resolve that. the way i cope is usually joining whatever org i can which makes me an extremely busy person at times.
i don’t get mad at people very often (i am easily annoyed though) and when i’m mad, i easily forgive but i /never/ forget.
i love discovering new music but my current favorite artists are phoebe bridgers and haim. i have a short-ass attention span when it comes to series and it’s been forever since i finished one. i’m more of a casual viewer, so i like movies better (especially romcoms)
what i don’t like is people who are extremely judgy and only see people negatively. it’s a pet peeve of mine when people are so quick to judge. i also hateeeee liver (although my mom encourages me to eat it bc i have iron deficiency…) but i love eating a mix of vegetables.
i’m a hopeless romantic by the way! i genuinely think that i won’t ever settle for any other than the tender and sweet kind of love. my love language are acts of service and quality time. i also really appreciate if someone listens to my ramblings tirelessly.
one of the things that i look for a partner is that he’s an active member of the community like me; it helps me see if he’s truly responsible. i also want him to care about his studies as much as i do and he should have a set goal in life. i want someone to have a direction in life, and knows that we shouldn’t be each other’s ONLY priorities.
i love to read fantasy and historical books. i also write whenever i’m on the mood and have time. one of my current obsessions is lord of the rings (which is weird bc i alr went thru an lotr phase when i was like… 6) AND I HAVE A PUPPY 🥹 i love her sm she’s so cute!!! i adore her sm and we spend time together through sitting on the floor and her laying her head on me 😭🥹

Istg my schedule has drop kicked me but I WILL post today. So let’s go!
I’m doing three, so let’s start off with question 7, which is question 1 to me today.
The question asks, “What anime I’ve wanted to see, but haven’t.” And funnily enough, I have a whole note made in my notes app reminding me what manga and anime I’ve wanted to get into but haven’t had the chance to yet. They are:
Food wars
School judgement
Bungo stray dogs
Classroom of the elite
Jujitsu Kaisen
Say yes to heaven
I lost the leash of the yandere male lead
And a bit more than this, but it was a link and I didn’t want you guys to click on it because I forget what it is. Anyway, it’s funny because I don’t remember exactly why “Say yes to heaven” is on here, or what it’s are about. I’ve gotten a bit into Jujitsu Kaisen but only manga-wise cause my Hulu is acting funky and I don’t want to start paying for Crunchyroll and haven’t found time to get on Funimation.
Anyway the next question is my favorite canon (not actual) couple. I actually happen to have a few, because I’ve seen and played way too much anime in my life lol.
Akitoya (Akito x Toya from Hatsune Miku Colorful Stage)
They are best friends and seeing them support each other is adorable. They’ve been there for each other in the highs and lows in both of there lives, holding each other up. It’s shows how kind both of them are, and how close they are to each other. If you take the people that ship Kohane x An, you can see that the only people left to ship are Akito and Toya! Honestly I could ramble about the two them all day, but we have to move on to the next one!
Ruikasa (Rui x Tsukasa from Hatsune Miku Colorful Stage)
Honestly I don’t have much to say about this ship. I got into it because my friend who recently started playing started shipping them right away. So I guess she ended up passing the obsession she has not only with the game but the ship to me, but now I support it whole heartedly. I could see the duo being cute, and the hilarious shenanigans they could get into, but it seems the people of Ruikasa got to me before the idea even crossed my mind lol.
Mikalight (Light Yagami x Mikami from Death Note)
I support this ship only because the devotion Mikami has for Light. You can see how far he’s willing to go, even though he got arrested in the end. Even though Light Yagami is supposed to be “dating” Miss Amane, you can see he doesn’t have any feelings for her by how he manipulates her and Takada. Maybe a part of myself ships this ship so Misa could get away from Light and how toxic he is even though she has as much devotion towards him as L does to a cake.
These are the three canon couples I could think of at the moment, so let’s move onto the next question!
Third and last question is what couple that is actually dating is my favorite? Ummmm that’s a good question cause I legit forget who is dating and dive into the lore but I think I can think of one.

Female/Male Ayano x Female/male sempai

anyways, full ramblings under the cut. and y'all know me, millie supporter through and through, so here we go.
my main opinion? finally some good fucking food. not that it beats out my fave truth seekers, but it's nice. a nice little thing.
gonna put this out there that I am not gonna talk about blitz and the sister thing simply because I don't really care. like the fizz episode, it served as less of a proper introduction and more like a teaser for what's to come. establishing further plot lines that will eventually go somewhere.
ANYWAYS I do think that it's nice to FINALLY see Millie shining outside of Moxxie. That she has her own talents, that she has her own struggles that are being hinted at. She's revealed she wants more attention, she's revealed she doesn't always like being just the angel of death. she would rather be loved for all parts of her. she's been in a supportive role for years (even in this mission her job was to support Moxxie while he gathered intel), she now finally has the spotlight. her reveling in people liking her is something that was nice to see. she is often take advantage of, unintentionally, by someone else. she rarely gets the opportunity to have the glory for herself.
I also love from the beginning it's established that Moxxie is taking his own desire for approval and the desire to prove himself way too seriously. he was obsessive with it. he assumed that he would taking point, and she'd be there to mop things up. however, when that didn't happen, he became frustrated because he felt his plan was being derailed.
this leads him to lash out at millie, forgetting it was his own idea. however, I'm glad that millie called him out by saying that she's always been so supportive of him and whatever he does. that she wanted the same in return. for once millie wanted to take an active role rather than a reactive one, and she had finally had enough of being overshadowed. it was entirely fair reaction. I don't blame her at all. hell, even when she tried to enjoy herself by the campfire she decided to cede her time to support Moxxie's dreams and goals. I'm glad she stood up for herself.
I do like that Moxxie and Millie did make up, through a balance of communication and ACTION. he showed that he was sorry, that he was willing to change. that he would amend his further action.
it shows that even though they have their fights, they are still a team.
for once, Moxxie's drama with himself is the set up for MILLIE, rather than Millie's things being the set up for Moxxie's. (i.e her family episode).
and yeah, I love how the ENTIRE camp worshipped her and everyone loved her. and how she became a celebrity because people love her millie-ness.
some other high points were discovering that drugs are like catnip to imps, millie can play the banjo and guitar, she's capable of sooooo many things, and we figured out how asmodean crystals worked. a bit dramatic, but it is what it is.
overall, this was clearly meant as a way to set up further plot lines and connections. as well as make a fun lil side plot of millie getting some vindication she rightfully deserved.

house of niccolò reread rambling thoughts: niccolò rising edition (part 2)
70% into the reread so i have a couple more thoughts about this book!
(which i'm enjoying a lot but man, if this were one of my favourites i would have a thousand things to say at this point... but we'll get to that eventually (in book 3))
2.1: the introduction of THEE dunnett fmc
this part of the story is mostly focused on bruges and nicholas's relationship with the charetty business and specifically marian. tobie and julius completely disappear, which is a shame! i really like tobie's role in the story; he's a great supporting character for nicholas. and i love julius, somehow! following him now, after finishing the series and knowing, is so much more interesting too.
but anyway, the character we get to know in this part is gelis!! marvelous gelis. she's such a funny teenage girl. i completely forgot her first scene with nicholas is them skating together and nicholas imitating people and telling her jokes... no wonder she was obsessed with him after lol. the funny part though is gelis interrogating nicholas's lovers after to know how he's in bed 😭 what a menace.
after rereading her scenes in this book i really don't get the review calling her a philippa knock-off? their roles are completely different and, no offense, but gelis has an actual personality lol because she has more than one scene!
my favourite part is her confrontation with nicholas in chapter 29, for many reasons. i love that nicholas comes out swinging, because he doesn't do that with anyone else! he always tries to tell people what they want to hear, and he turns up the charm. he did that with gelis too, at first. now it's almost like he thinks she's too smart to fall for it. there's also this:
“Now stop poking into my affairs and remember that I can hurt your sister a lot more than you can hurt me.”
★ gelis will remember that
2.2: it's a lovely morning in bruges and you're a horrible claes
one of my favourite things about this book as an introduction to the series, and especially as an introduction to nicholas de fleury, is that we get to see claes living his life in bruges, like a normal boy. we learn about his pranks but we also see them, we see what his neighbours think about him. we see him hang out with his friends, who aren't very good friends, unsurprisingly. i was happy to notice sersanders, who has a small role in to lie with lions, actually being nice to nicholas. he defends claes when felix is unfair to him; he helps claes take off his ice skates; it's sweet!
and it's little details like this that make nicholas feel very real to me. like he had a life before the series started, and not just a backstory for the readers to wonder about, but an actual life. it's very good! compare that to lymond in the game of kings. we don't see his day to day, we don't know how his life looked like in scotland. which makes perfect sense, but it creates distance between lymond and the reader, i think. nicholas feels more like a friend.
(something similar happens with gemini vs checkmate, i think, because in gemini we get little scenes that show the de fleurys' life and their bond as a family and it's beautiful. we don't get that in checkmate because everything is a mess lol and i think that's a shame)
tl;dr: i love getting to see nicholas being a normal boy being a menace in bruges, i think it humanizes him a lot, which is very important because of everything he's going to do in the future.
i probably could say more about what i've read so far but this is, once more, so long... so i'll just talk about whatever i forgot to mention here in the last part, when i finish :)

KNIGHT OF DAWN WHO. i'm actually obsessed with the way how silver actually looks and acts like a mix of them. he can appear very suddenly, scaring others in the process, just like lilia, he's eepy like lina and also tends to blame himself a lot just like them and he looks a lot like rollo and is very serious and responsible, just like him. he is literally their son. i'm gonna sob
here are some of my fav lina x lilia x rollo concepts if you don't mind me sharing!
lilia is 700 years old and he's been through so much and it took a lot of time for him to change and become the gremlin that he is today. lina is MUCH younger than him, but she also had to go through a lot of horrors. lilia never says that their trauma isn't valid and never says stuff like "well at least you didn't have to fight in a war". he just hopes they can feel a bit lighter when he's around.
i've mentioned before that i imagine lina's unique magic hurting them a lot in exchange for them to do things as good (or better than) as others so yeah, maybe rollo would find lina suspicious at first but then imagine him finding out about what her magic is doing to her and he's like. "SEE. I AM RIGHT. WE HAVE TO SAVE YOU WE HAVE TO GET RID OF MAGIC WE HAVE TO-" and lina is standing there like "sir.. why do you want to save me.."
*sobs* rollo putting a flower in lina's hair while she's sitting lost in thought and comparing her to that flower *CRIES*
rollo being confused why lilia is 100% okay with a poly relationship and lilia is like "well. uh. well. you see. i have EXPERIENCE" mallenoa and her husband (possibly crowley)
ACTUALLY IT'S SO FUNNY bc if you think about it lina x lilia x rollo is like a reverse version of that relationship. it's not the "actual queen" and a "trash man" it's "the nbc student council president and the most talented student from that school" and "a wet cat i found on the street and said "i just think it's neat"".
*SOBBING* LINA HAS NOTICEABLE FANGS.. DO YOU KNOW WHO ALSO HAS THOSE.. which means linalilia can just bite rollo whenever they want.

I sometimes feel bad because I came into the vocaloid fandom so late and don't really know any of the history or classic stuff or pretty much any vocaloid(s?) besides Miku, Rin, Len, and Luca. It's the same with figure collecting. I've liked Miku pretty much my whole life but my obsession, when I started to actually listen to vocaloid songs and collect figures, didn't start until early 2022.
The people in this community that I look up to have loved Miku and figure collecting for years, most more than a decade. I know that me coming in late doesn't make my love any lesser but I sometimes feel weird saying that the 15th anniversary design is one of my favorites, or that I prefer the design of NT over all previous base designs. I also feel weird saying that I love classic (but basic) songs like Triple Baka.
I guess it feels like I'm too new to this community to have any "valid" opinions. If I like newer stuff then I get the feeling It's just because I don't know everything. If I like older stuff then It's like I'm just pretending I was here from the start.
None of this actually affects my enjoyment of Miku content, I love her an incredible amount just the same. I guess it just makes me feel like I don't quite fit in with those I look up to. I would really like to have more friends to ramble with but I feel like If I did I would just embarrass myself or come off as disingenuous.
Miku is my favorite thing. Period. I love her so much and I've known that for long enough to know it is true. I am not going to let these dumb feelings prevent me from loving her and sharing my love.
I really like that idea where everyone has their own Miku, and it is a concept that I would want to write about in more detail later. My Miku is caring, kind, supportive, and understanding. Even though she is new and she doesn't always quite know what's going on, she still deserves love.

Oh, I’m sorry for any confusion! I have no desire to attack you or your friends- everything I’ve seen pretty much shows you guys as innocent like 100%. And what you say about what happened was how I understood things- you were just defending a friend and it’s like, she’s mad that you guys did??? Would she not want the same from her friends? The vibe I get is “yes, she would want that support too.”
I just… The problem child- I used to really like them. They had fun content. But then they keep posting drama and posting about you guys so I looked up accounts and it’s like “what? What’s the problem? There’s nothing? They almost never mention you if ever.”
(I sent her an anon once asking this by the way- why she keeps bringing you guys up when you guys never mention her- Never got a response that I saw. But you mentioned her deleting stuff, I’ve noticed her deleting stuff, so maybe my ask got answered and then deleted. Who knows?)
I keep expecting her to stop but she just never does, ever. Again, just today, she’s ranting that you guys don’t have your accounts deactivated yet. It’s like from everything I have seen, SHE should be the one with her account deactivated! I mean… In some ways, she’s unhinged! Obsessive.
Like I’m not even involved, and it mildly stresses me out seeing her so this because it’s like WHY. WHY bring up drama constantly. It’s like she’s miserable or upset about something, so she’s trying to drag everyone down with her.

Hey again darling, well thankfully you cleared that up now so I don’t have to panic about that. Also, I’m not sure how this whole mess even started because originally I was inserted in the middle of the battlefield between “problem child” and someone else. I’m not sure who was having the original beef/problems with “problem child”… They did have fun and interesting content, I remember surprisingly because I can hardly remember anything..anyway, I wouldn’t have been surprised if you anon got deleted because they seem to delete a whole lot of stuff. Such as their apologies, their post about my friends were negative, making assumptions that I was talking smack about her because if she was gonna assume then she should’ve asked if it was because I KNOW which person I’m talking about. She keeps dragging our names in the dirt but she don’t realize that’s she also dragging herself as you might’ve know, I’m a firm believer of digital footprint so whatever you post on the internet stays on there no matter if it’s deleted or archived. And people can look up your name and whatever they see is how they are going to reflect on you, and me, I know I’m a very complex person so I don’t always have my thoughts in the right places but I admit that when I first meet people or even a couple days/weeks after meeting them. However I do agree, she can be quite obnoxious and obsessive which just makes me cackle because I’m so fed up. Like at this time, this whole ordeal about being obsessive with us is becoming funny for me and embarrassing for her. Don’t ever- and I mean EVER my dear is to get involved. I don’t want it happening it to you too, okay? Look, I have a feeling I know who are but for right now I don’t because you’re an anon, just don’t get involved. I don’t want you hurt from the “problem child”. Hi can I get a stranger things and a Harry Potter ship please
I am a bisexual female and I go by she/her. I’m about 5’7” and I have red hair and blue eyes. I wear glasses and have way too many freckles. I talk a lot but when I’m alone with no one I know I become shy until I find someone that seems “safe” to talk to. My first thought was Steve! He will always listen to your rambles, he loves listening to you talk about the things you love. Absolutely obsessed with your freckles and loves your glasses. He’s more on the outgoing side so he’d always be by your side at social things making sure you’re okay. Will help you work through you’re anxiety but only if you want him to. The biggest way he’d help you is by showing you his love and devotion. Steve is absolutely a sucker for love songs so you guys would have a similar music taste (he’s also a swiftie). He relates to having a rough relationship with his family so him and the gang will become you’re family (he’d totally adopt you’re siblings if they’re younger than you).
Harry Potter:
Okay i’m honestly getting Ginny vibes. She understands your hesitation and anxiety with trust and will offer her support but would never cross you’re boundaries. I feel like she would obsess over things with you so you guys could take turns rambling about the thing you guys are currently obsessed with. Save the Villainess Thoughts by Willow Masterpost Part 1: Jane
So I've decided to be insane. Make a small (lies, it is long, that is why it is divided up into parts) post about the Halloween videos and the lore that they have given us. As well as maybe compile theories/thoughts about these characters. Idk if there is a community for this even, or if anybody's actually obsessed like I am, but I'm having fun thinking about it either way, so... I guess this is for like the 0.0000000000001% of the people (me and only me). Enjoy lmao.
You have been warned: the actual insanity starts under the cut lmao.
So I will start with... Jane. Mostly because her Halloween special video is not as lore-bomb-dropping as the rest. The video itself is mostly about certain aspects of the gameplay so far. It's a neat little thing! Honestly, these are more thoughts/rambles than actual, well, coherent notes, but from what I've noticed (from being insane and watching every single social media post on Tumblr Best Laid Plans Productions ever made about all of them, more or less, even though my memory is spotty and I didn't have time to rewatch them before making this), is that Jane is just unknowingly integrated in this world. I don't notice her having any thoughts about before she was transported into the romance novel she read; it's not like she's thinking about her family home, or that she has any plans of going back. She just knows she doesn't belong in this world as the villainess, which is super interesting to me. She's just... accepted her fate and that she must survive. She's BECOME the villainess, rather than just feeling like an imposter in another person's body. She only knows she's innocent, which is why she's fighting so hard to be freed from such a fate. Another thing that supports this is the fact Jane always says such weird phrases that I'm like 99% sure aren't actual English idioms, but rather phrases that this alternate romance novel universe uses. Such as "By the blood" in the Halloween special specifically, because, what does this mean Jane???? What are you referring to here!!! (Side note: Edmund also uses these odd phrases a lot, so I suppose it's something the nobility of Carcosa are familiar with; some kind of "noble language" to distinguish those of nobility from commoners or whatever. Some kind of pretentious thing that just happens because society is cruel lmao. Either that OR this is just the way Carcosians speak in general and Jane just kinda always knew this ever.)
Another thing, besides just the obvious announcements of how this guideline/tutorial thing works in the gameplay, is the fact that Jane explicitly states that daytime and nighttime are important. Most people would sign this off to, well, gameplay experience. That during the night you can talk to people more intimately and have like rendezvous or whatever with your favourite characters, while at daytime you're solving mysteries mostly. See the thing with that is, is that Servant also somewhat says very similar things in previous instances of videos. And we all know that Servant is like... that one person that gives everyone the creeps, the intrigue and also the insanity. They are, as of now, the most explicit in the fact they are somewhat of a mastermind behind this all. They know what is happening with the lore. They know, but they don't like explicitly telling us what is happening, so... yeah thanks ig Servant? In each case, Jane here is not joking when she says that nighttime and daytime are important; they're probably very much so magically (maybe?) linked to how this story is supposed to progress. Aka gameplay actually impacts lore, and lore impacts gameplay. As to what it is referring to... well, I have my theories about it. But what I'm most confident in is that it is related to some kind of magic about the story. It is relevant to the narrative; relevant to things both Ben and Servant know about this world. And I say Ben because he's also so sus in such a world-altering way but I'll talk about him later... yeah, later lmao.
Now, my notes that I took while watching the videos here are very vague (thank you for that Willow, you are so insane about this you cannot even write in proper English), but there's something about the jewelry and accessories of these characters. Most noticeably, the way they glow. Like Rhythmically Glowing and Shaking. In Jane's case, it's her earrings [her brooch is less important but it still has symbolism on it probably, with how it has a bee etched onto it. Maybe this is her family's like symbol? Like how Renaissance Pope families had different kinds of symbols etched into buildings they funded into existence and all. Who knows]. Maybe this is some kind of glint effect or whatever; but then why is it animated like THAT??? Idk if I'm onto something or not here, I have high suspicions that I am, but maybe I'm also just looking into it too deeply... but there's something wrong with this jewelry. There's something wrong with the way that Servant's Brooch also glows, whenever Edmunds (tie clips? cufflinks for your neck??? what are they I'm not good with fashion, though the game has such good fashion design guys okay) accessories start glowing and shaking, when Izel has his little gem earring (I love that design omg, also + the brooch he has on his tie but like it doesn't shake) shakes and glows as well and how Ben's POCKET WATCH CHAIN (+ the little uhh buttons on his coat but they don't shake the way the other things do) IS GLOWING OKAY (and yes I'm insane enough to pause these videos just to see whether it is true). Something is going on. It's happening (slightly) even during daytime, and I checked this, so there's something fishy with this. There has to be. I'm so convinced there is jfkldsjfks. A possible explanation for this is that because these characters are all main actors in the story, some kind of magic is there to maybe,,, force them to play their part? Maybe they cannot be exempted from the main storyline because of this? Maybe everybody is just here because they have no other choice? Honestly idk. More thoughts on this in the other parts because dude I'm gonna lose my mind if I try to put everything in here. AND MAYBE IT'S JUST AN ARTISTIC CHOICE AND I'M JUST INSANE ABOUT IT??? Who knows.
Anyway, to close off this post, because I know it is long and idk whether there's actually any substance here, I'll try to compile the thoughts about Jane into a few small sentences, without fangirling in between lmao.
She's lovely, and while she is very funny, I find her harder to pin down than the rest of the cast (that we know of as of writing this). She's dead set on surviving, and that's probably because she might have experienced death once already. Either as the Villainess Jane Neville herself, or as the person she (possibly) used to be, that we know absolutely nothing of. She does not show any other hints to her past: just constantly assuring us she desperately needs help. I love her, of course, not only for her character design or the fact that she's funny, but for the fact that she somehow manages to avoid telling us anything concrete about herself. I don't think that this is done because Jane is not a character and is supposed to be a player-insert (that may play a part in it but y'know, that's just the nature of these kinds of games to a degree); she very much so is a character. She knows these phrases and these small courtesy things that no normal person who WASN'T integrated into this fantasy world would know. Maybe she retained only some of the past memories that her villainess self had, but truly... how could she remember those, but not her fiancé? Not the novel she is in? How can she know she is the villainess with certainty, at all, given she does not remember the book, the plot of said book, nor any of the other characters that well? She only knows someone is out to kill her, and that we must save her. Her weird integration with the world as well as the dissonance she presents with it at the same time is suspicious; she's very mysterious in that regard.
Perhaps I'm biased. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough. It might be that I'm missing something entirely. Somehow my suspicion/theory, even to me, feels like it's somewhat misplaced. That something is up is clear, but whether there's evidence to support anything is a whole other thing.
But somehow I'm inclined to believe that... Jane is not as forgetful as she might think she is. And that whatever happens to her by the choice of the player (who you romance, what kind of ending you get, what kind of choices you make, how you survive based on your deductions in the mystery, etc.), it always will tie into something she wanted to be. That us controlling her to a certain kind of destiny, is something she wanted to be, but never got the chance to be.
That we might guide her towards a destiny she actually deserved, rather than the one she has gotten.
[ Lmao I have so many more thoughts about what exactly makes a villainess but like... if the LIs/ROs/MLs or whatever you call them are all deconstructions and reconstructions of their specific tropes... Then isn't Jane also one? Shouldn't she be, at least? If she never was a villainess, then what makes her be one? If she was a villainess, what changes should she undergo in order to become a hero? And if she is neither... Or cannot remember whether she is clearly... What truly discerns her as a villainess?
I have so many more thoughts and theories about these people that I have to cover later because otherwise I'd have been sitting here for 2 hours trying to write all of this down somewhat understandably. If I actually had a plan for like any type of structure I might've not lost so much time on it. Will try to do that when it comes to the rest and all. Might also opt for smaller paragraphs lmao I genuinely hope I'm not overstepping something by doing this??? If the developers see this and go like "okay maybe don't", I'll take it down fjkdsjfklds. It's not like I'm dead set on sharing this if it's for whatever reason not good for business or something. ANYWAY THIS IS GETTING ABSURDLY LONG.
