kristen trying to convince fabian to pursue mazey by causing a small earthquake and saying “if there’s one thing i know, when love is in the air, there should be a tiny emergency!” hits a little different when you rmr that her and tracker’s first meeting was at the black pit bar and their first kiss was followed immediately by an undead brawl

Aside from the chaos of it all, I'm very soft about the scene with Fabian and Mazey tbh
Like we've seen protective Fabian with a love interest. His entire goal end of campaign one was to ride into Fallinel to save Aelwyn singlehandedly. He spent the entirety of the first two episodes concerned about Ecaf's safety. But we rarely see the reverse, where someone is interested in pursuing Fabian for more than him being a hot, rich, jock-dancer, someone who gives a shit about his well being.
So Mazey making a point to be like "I reached out because I trust you but also because you seem lonely" and "Even if you weren't maximum legend, I'd still wanna hang out with you" is just very tender and sweet and genuine

I just finished "Ariadne" by Jennifer Saint and I'm not fine. (This obviously contains some spoilers but nothing to major)
I do not accept this ending. I don't mean to criticise Jennifer's choice but Ariadne deserved better. No she lived her life on Naxos with her five Sons and Phaedra and all is well. When she grows old Dionysius takes her to Olympus and makes her his immortal wife thats how the story ended for me.
But honestly it's a great book you should read it especially if you like feminist retelling of Greek mythology

🤝 Does your OC have someone they want at their side when they are scared? Who?
Phaedra burst through the double doors to the waiting room, mere moments after the page was sent to find her. She searched the few masked figures seated in the room frantically before spotting her sister tucked into a corner. Ariadne's shoulders were so slumped she looked like she was trying to fold herself into quarters. Phaedra ran across the room to her, throwing her bag down and dropping to her knees to be level with her sister before taking Ariadne's mask off to examine her face.
"What happened? Are you all right? What's wrong?" Phaedra pressed, breathlessly, noting the unmistakable puffy red tinge around Ari's eyes - she had been crying - for hours, by the looks of it.
"I'm all right-" Ariadne began.
"You're not hurt?" Phaedra interrupted.
"No, I mean," Ariadne wiped tears from her eyes with the cuff of her robe, "sort of-"
Phaedra held Ariadne's face in both hands until she made eye contact. "What's wrong?" she repeated, trying to imbue her words with a serious weight.
"I just… I didn't know who to talk to-" Ariadne stumbled through her words and Phaedra dropped her hands.
"What did you do?" An accusation.
"Nothing! I mean, I think I fucked up… really bad," Ariadne admitted.
"What?" Phaedra could feel her old impatience creeping back up, something she hadn't felt in decades, but that Ariadne unfailingly managed to drag up with her nonsense. She regarded her sister's puffy face with disdain, despite her efforts to remain even.
"With Minthe, I think. She said she doesn't want to see me any more, and then she-"
"This is your emergency? A break up?" Phaedra rolled her eyes, and started gathering her things up. Ari balled her fists as her cheeks flared red.
"Phae-"
Phaedra stood, the familiar disapproving frown back on her face.
"Ariadne," she sighed, centuries of exasperation in her tone, "some of us have real responsibilities. Real problems." Ari pursed her lips as she fought back tears.
"I'm sorry," Ariadne said softly, keeping her voice and breathing as even as she could manage.
"Please do not start crying," Phaedra snapped, keeping her voice low as she adjusted her mask. "You are an adult and you cannot just cry and get your way any more. I'm sorry about your girlfriend, but maybe you should grow up." She turned to leave, but Ariadne caught her arm. Phaedra faced her once again as Ariadne kept her head turned away.
"I wish it had been you, you know," Ariadne hissed. Phaedra held her breath. "It should have been you."
"I know," Phaedra snatched her hand away. "But wishing won't bring him back, so why don't you just get over it?"
Phaedra stomped away, loudly muttering something about a 'waste of time' as she left Ariadne alone in the waiting room.

OCs As Literary Archetypes!
I was tagged by the wonderful @corvosattano and @nightbloodraelle to do this uquiz. Thank you! 💜
Tagging @playstationmademe @nightwingshero @sstewyhosseini @baldurrs @jinfromyarikawa @leviiackrman @chuckhansen @chazz-anova @phillipsgraves @kittiofdoom @detectivelokis and anyone else that want's to do it!!
Tumblr media
The Creator
you're scared that you'll die and your entire life will just disappear into the void of history. you want to leave your mark, even if it's just a small sign that you were here. that you were alive. oh but you probably want it to be original to you, you're not interested in what has already been done. you want to create something new, and you wont truly rest until it comes to fruition.
Tumblr media
The Magician
well, arent you detached from reality. i dont mean in a delusional sense, i mean you purposefully distance yourself from everything and everyone. you have people you're close to, of course, but they're always kept at arms length. you're incredibly driven though, achieving your goals is extremely important to you. you feel trapped in the life you have now, it's not enough for you. you need more, always more. you are so hungry, and if you’re not careful, you’ll only end up consuming yourself.
Tumblr media
The Ruler
you probably grew up in an environment where everything was policed, you had almost no control over your own life. now, you need to be in constant control, lest those feelings of helplessness return. however, the ruler is the most easily corrupted of the archetypes, remember that. you might find yourself not only wanting control over your own life, but the lives of others. that in itself is not a bad thing, so long as you’re benevolent and kind, but it’s easy to be tipped a bit too far into your desires. in the same vein, don’t shoulder all of your responsibility alone. while it is ultimately their decision to make, a ruler also has a circle of advisors around them.
Tumblr media
The Caregiver
you've spent so long taking care of others, you don't know what to do with yourself if you aren't. you probably suck at taking care of yourself though, maybe you feel like you aren't worthy or deserving. but deep down, i know you wish to be cared for too. you want someone to show you that you are worth even just half the effort you put into caring for other people. dont neglect yourself.
Tumblr media
The Siren
this archetype is one of the most misunderstood and misrepresented in my opinion, which i assume fits with you nicely. people see you as some cold and awful person, seducing others only to discard them when you get bored. in reality, you probably didn’t have a lot of control over your life before, did you? this is the same case as the ruler, both lacking in power and autonomy. the difference between you and the ruler, however, is that you only care about reclaiming that power for yourself. you also seek the feeling of being wanted, truly and wholly, and this quest seems never ending. try your best to avoid putting yourself into horrible situations just for a brief moment of respite from the loneliness.

don carlos by friedrich schiller is the most wild thing i've read all year and i'm only in act 2
#this is giving me flashbacks to when i read the winter's tale and i was literally slamming my fists and emphatically shaking the book#because i just could not believe the level of DRAMA i was reading (and the craft with which it was written)#i just closed act 2 scene 3 and im like GIRRRRLLLLL#princess of eboli im rooting for you#nobody tell me if something shitty happens w her im having a good time right now#tales from diana#up until act 2 scene 2 i was getting phaedra-meets-prince hal (of the henry iv plays) vibes#but then those next two scenes were CRAAAAZY#and i should mention phaedra by racine is one of my favorite plays#schiller also has a beautiful skill at language if the translations are doing him any justice#i dont know german so im not reading the originals naturally but just. the edition i have. the verse is so beautiful#i also read his mary stuart this year and it was also great but im losing my mind at don carlos#i was intimidated by this play too though bc it's nearly 200 pages in my copy of his works! which is a p big book#but OOOHHHHH my god#im just over 1/3rd through the play and i cant imagine how it gets any wilder#but wooooow. WOWWWW#schiller might be the first non-anglophone writer ive read who ive seen called 'the shakespeare of his culture'#and i actually felt that the comparison like. did justice.#the intensity ive felt reading these 2 schiller plays are very much how i feel reading the greatest shakespeare plays#not that the greatest/most acclaimed writers of other languages ive read arent AS GREAT as shakespeare#but like. molière i'll use as an example bc i love what i've read of him.#he's the most globally well-known french writer of verse plays but that doesn't make him like shakespeare.#he's very much in his own camp of artistic genius. his craft is also very different. the resulting products are super unique#from what is typical of a shakespeare play.#schiller's style AT LEAST FROM THE TWO PLAYS IVE READ very much have the same depth of character#complexity of plot#and grace of verse.#im obsessed! king!

Why Pavel is Important:
AKA Why Cheth and Phaedra need therapy and Phantomarine won’t leave my head--
The sheer importance of Pavel as a character and what he does hit me very hard today and I needed to share.
Cheth the Red Tide King is an ageless being who has been betrayed, mutilated, and discredited for a comparatively short 500 years out of his thousands. Everything he was, everything he had, taken away by someone who was supposed to be his equal and someone who his feelings about seem to be very... complicated. Even then, he didn’t even get to die, just watch as more as more was stripped away so not even the people’s memory of him remained unwrapped. His only company was himself... and a few fleeting moments with people who feared and hated him. If that didn’t fuck him up a bit, nothing could.
If he was to be made the villain until some nebulous future that might not even come, why not lean into it and have at least a shred of vengeance and amusement? The perfect target is right there, after all, a royal line dedicated to the church that sullies his memory with lies is right there. Why *not* torment them when they pass, why not make those ruthless bloodthirsty puppets feel despair? After all, he knows who is calling the shots. He knows she doesn’t care one bit once she can no longer use them...
The Red Tide surrounded and transported at least three sea bite victims to shore that we know of, however. Doubtless there are many more lives he has tried to save from a painful and premature death. But he can only be so many places at once... And it is rather telling that every seabite victim we have seen so far has been a child.
He thought Phaedra no better than a tyrant early in her reign when she came down to his domain. That she could not possibly know the loss that had occurred because of her people’s actions. That none of her line could, because ***she*** was pulling the strings... And of course, she would never trust him, so to get her to do anything, of course he had to lie. She had been manipulated all her life and was clearly none the wiser, even now when contradictions begin arising. And really, he has no patience for it anymore, for stubborn fools who refuse to hear him.... and Cheth is far too out of practice to do anything about this himself.
Phaedra is lugging around centuries of religious propaganda and pressure, as well as being young, inexperienced, and grieving the loss of her father. Her whole life has been surrounded by the church and it’s teachings, of her future responsibilities in relation to them, who her immortal enemy was and who her biggest inspiration should be. She was very literally tailor-raised to hate Cheth.
His actions don’t help alleviate this either. I doubt he was lying about being able to bring back only one soul, but not being clear about it broke what trust Phaedra was ever willing to put in the god. She was not nearly as hostile towards him until that little snag, and has seemed only to double down on this stance ever since, her color scheme changing from yellows to blues. She will find the most bad-faith read of his words and believe that to be the only correct answer. His penchant to not being completely clear and honest with his intentions also clearly vexes her.
Clearly though, she cares deeply about people. She took up her father’s tradition to ease the grieving. She was willing to do whatever it took to save her friends, and feels incredible guilt for ‘dooming’ them to a these last months of not-quite-life. She wants to help people, really help them... but she can only see ‘help’ in such a narrow worldview and has been taught there are some people you just shouldn’t help.
And then... there’s Pavel. And the very first thing we learn about him is that the boy has more heart than sense. Vanna raised him well, but the kind of deep empathy to care for the very beings that killed his father and basically gave him a terminal disease with heavy stigmas that forced him to leave the life he loved for ***seven years*** takes a little more than teaching.
Pavel has defended almost every single being that has harmed him.
He understood that sea ghosts just couldn’t stop themselves and that they were people once because he trusted his mother and her research. He understood that his friend Eddy was scared and alone and lashing out because of that. He questioned and pushed back against Sofia’s manipulations and the bad faith readings of the Mantaluna crew, but tried to understand that they must be having a pretty hard time. He told the Manta Princess to her face that *Cheth was hurting too* and asked a literal deity to be nicer to the biggest pain in his neck.
This little boy is a critical bridge. He can just *feel* when people are coming from a place of genuine care or hurt and tries to explain that to others who are being overly harsh in his opinion. There is a reason he is neither Cheth’s nor Phaedra’s color scheme. *This tiny boy is the one neutral party that both of these stubborn powerful people will listen to, now.*
Phaedra only turned sour when the talk got a little too close to questioning the very foundation of her beliefs, and she just went cold and tried to make Pavel change the subject. She was so relieved to know she hadn’t hurt him, wanted to do everything she could to make him comfortable and did not even question if they should help him get somewhere safe. And Cheth... Cheth loves children and hates having to welcome a single one into his collection, I think. He tried to mock Phaedra with how many *orphans* her father’s last battle created. He became *angry* and cold at even the implication that he would have lied to Pavel. And Cheth does everything he can to make sure a child survives a sea ghost attack.
Without Pavel... neither of these two have any hope of working through their shit, because neither of them are able to view the other and their reactions clearly. Cheth IS AN ASSHOLE AND VINDICTIVE. Phae IS NAIVE AND OVERZEALOUS. And Pavel is the once person who can read them both as say it like it is. And that is going to make for one hell of a boat ride.

I just love tall strong/buff and mean women.
You have good taste, anon. 😌
May I direct you towards:
Calla, who may not be tall, but is definitely strong/buff
Phaedra, who is tall and--depending on the POV and situation--could be mean to the right person at the right time
Anselma, who is tall, strong and mean (her wife is not)
Malsara, who is somewhat tall, somewhat buff, and somewhat mean
Nova, who is somewhat tall and definitely mean (of the prickly variety)
Umbria, who is none of these things but deserves the love anyway

Papastarion Headcanons Pt. 3
Uh-oh! She’s at it again! (But you’re here, too, so what does that say about you, hm? 😂) This one feels very long and just as indulgent as all the others, so strap in.
•Their kids as a collective are affectionately known as “the Brood.”
•In my canon, they have four boys and one girl by the time they’re finished having children, on top of their two adopted daughters. So far, I’ve named three of the boys. In order: Nero, Eldritch (“El”), and Apolinary (“Arry”), Their last biological child is their third daughter: Phaedra (“Phae.”) I’ve got one more boy left to name, but I’m being indecisive. :)
•Naming the kids is a group effort. They’ll take input from literally anyone. Astarion even asked Petras once. (Never again.) They didn’t think they’d make it this far, they didn’t discuss baby names or dream them up before there were babies to be named. Thea’s wanted kids her whole life, assumed she would never get the chance, and never once had a single name ready to go just in case. She thought it would come to her when the time came. (Spoilers, babe: it did not.)
•Gale is not allowed participating in any naming discussions after suggesting Telemachus for their first child. He considers this a fair point in hindsight. He gets to keep his uncle privileges, though, and he loves all his honorary nieces and nephews just as much as the other members of their little troupe do.
•Karlach (once her engine’s fixed) thinks they should all be named Karlach. When it seems impossible to agree on a name or come up with one at all, it is very tempting.
•Astarion and Thea didn’t expect it to be possible to have any biological children, but once they adopt the girls, and then when Nero comes along, they both discuss what they would like their family to look like. Astarion strikes me as an only child, and Thea came from a very messed up family dynamic (Bhaal aside), and they mutually agree they wouldn’t mind having a bigger family, if it works out. (“Your eyes? My hair? Our genetics would be lethal, love.”)
•For all the hassle, they always manage to land on the perfect name, in Astarion’s very unhumble opinion. And for all the hassle, too, he wouldn’t trade those nights where Thea can’t sleep because she’s thinking too much or can’t get comfortable where they’ll nestle up together and talk over their options while feeling this poor person they can’t name move around.
•They didn’t want to name their kids after anyone, either. There are precious few people between them who deserve that honor, and they mutually agree it feels right to give their children names unencumbered by any legacy.
•Astarion’s parents are very much alive in my mind. For personal context: his father is a high elf and his mother is a wood elf, bit of a star-crossed thing going on with their backgrounds. His father is a highly-esteemed magistrate named Gildersleeve but he goes by Sly, his mother is a woman named Orianna who loves nothing more than playing high society while the nobility of Baldur’s Gate are scandalized by her. After Astarion’s death, they both became very withdrawn from social activity, though Sly continued his council duties. They never thought they would know what happened to their son after his murder, let alone that he would come home to them again, married, and that they would be grandparents in the not too distant future.
•They dote on their grandchildren, adopted and blood alike. There’s no difference to them. More than once, Sly has walked into a day of legal work with a six month old dhampir on his hips because Thea and Astarion needed a babysitter, and what’s he going to do? Not spend time with one of his grandkids? Not Gildersleeve.
•Astarion has learned how to do hair over the course of his life and unlife. He would do his sisters’ after Cazador’s torment left their hands shaking and unable to properly finesse their braids back into place before entertaining a new guest. He picked up even more styles from Thea and their first adopted daughter along their little tadpole adventure. So, of course, he helps take care of his kiddos hair, too. There are full on (affectionate) fights about who can do it the best.
•Obviously not one for rules or social standards, Astarion is absolutely there for each labor and delivery. He doesn’t like seeing Thea in pain (anymore), but her discomfort outweighs his own. He and Thea are partners, equals in all things. The very least he can do for her is be by her side, if she wants him there (and she absolutely does), and the rest of the world can be damned. It’s a stupid “rule,” in his opinion, anyway.
•He watches all five kids come into this world he had a small hand in saving, and he’s grateful everyday that some trick of fate found him deserving of such an honor. He’ll always have his scars and his nightmares, but every last night spend under Cazador’s thumb is a little more distant any time he holds little Nero, and when he gets to teach El how to read, and when Mina laughs, when Thea asks for his hand so he can feel one kick. They’re all priceless to him, worth every terrible night.
•On a lighter note to end this one: Astarion is the one who patches up any clothes that get torn in the throes of playing (or teething.) He likes to put little inscriptions in hems for the kids to find, because he’s turned into a sentimental and mushy fool, and he doesn’t mind a bit.

TBONA SPOILERS!!
Questions I wish get answered in Book#3 :-
Why is Eva immune to Jacks' powers? As his true love, she would only be immune to his kiss, not his powers. Infact, the only other people who've been stated to be immune to his influence are immortals. (Gavriel said it in Finale)
How much did Eva forget? She remembers her parents' death, so does she remember Luc? If Apollo removed only memories of Jacks', wouldn't she remember who he is, too?
The gold-flecked blood on the angel's wings-is it Jacks? What happened to him?
On that note, why is his blood gold-flecked? As far as I remember, Gavriel's blood wasn't? Oh, and if his blood is gold-flecked, why are his tears normal blood red?
In OUABH, Eva comments on seeing "a hint of a rough scar on his chest", but when she sees him shirtless in The Hollow, there's no scar? Only smooth skin? Did it get healed by the vampire venom, or was it an effect of the mirth stone? (Evangeline thinks of the mirth stones power as 'takes away fear and heals wounds')
Where did Phaedra and Havelock go? And what did Havelock want to tell Eva before he disappeared? Also, what did Phaedra's tattoo mean? Who are the Damned?
LaLa mentions the one she loved was a dragon shifter- coincidentally, one of the Valor children, Dane, was also a shifter. Aurora also mentions in her journal, "I don't think she's right for my brother, either". So is LaLa's love Dane, or Castor, who we've been told has history with her?
Now that Eva's memories are gone, how is Apollo going to explain it away? Is he going to blame it on Jacks? Or an unfortunate accident? Or is he gonna pretend she was under Jacks influence all along?
Are the Protectorate/Marisol going to take advantage of her now?
Speaking of the Protectorate, where is the Fortuna Matriarch now? How did Tiberius escape?
Why does Jacks tell Evangeline "This is the worst idea you've had yet" when he doesn't even know she'd gone to visit Tiberius?
What was the deal with the Darling sisters? Why's Jacks suddenly nice to them?
Since the Valors have awakened now, are they gonna overtake North's throne now? Does that mean Apollo can die without putting the North in a crisis now?
Why and How and Who put the Valors in a suspended state? The Arch's story makes it seem like there's something to with Castor, but what was the exact reason? It's not like the people knew what was up?
In the first run, Chaos never screams when his helm is opened, so why does he scream the second time around? What changes?
