Being the only known daughter of the Goddess Nyx, life at camp often felt lonely for you. You had always preferred to keep to yourself, your anxiety holding you back from making new friends or joining the other campers in their activities.
Your mother had claimed you soon after you first got to camp, but because there wasn't a cabin for her, you had been spending your first years here curled up in a sleeping bag in the corner of the overflowing Hermes cabin.
The only person you had been able to call somewhat of a friend back then, was Nico DiAngelo. You had first met the kid when his sister joined the hunters on a quest and he chose to follow you around. At first, you had been annoyed by this, not used to anyone looking at you, much less attempting to talk to you.  But he just had such an innocent look about him.
His green eyes were always so gentle and his smile was always kind. He seemed genuinely interested in everything you had to teach him and you felt yourself growing quite protective over him. But it was Nico going missing that changed your life at camp completely.
It was Percy Jackson himself who broke the news of Nico's disappearance to you and you surprised the both of you by exploding at him, overtaken by worry for the kid that had become much like a little brother to you in such a short amount of time.
You ended up helping Percy and his friends look for Nico in the following months, unfortunately without any luck. But spending all this time with them earned you a spot in their little group and your life at camp took a quick turn to the better.
Instead of spending your days alone, now you had Annabeth joining you to read and talk, Grover going on walks through the strawberry fields and around the lake with you and Percy helping you train and taking you on rides around camp on Blackjack.
You found out the son of Poseidon shared some of your loneliness, hating the silence plaguing his nights alone in his cabin. That quickly changed when you decided to join him one night, sneaking into his cabin to surprise him with a sleepover. Sleeping in the top bunk of his bed while he was snoring away in the bottom bunk became a regular occurence.
It was nice being able to spend time with someone who could make you laugh as if nothing else mattered, especially during a gloomy campfire where everyone else would be worried about the upcoming battle. You enjoyed hanging out with Percy more than you cared to admit.
It was during his appearance at his own funeral rite that you finally realized your feelings for the boy were far from platonic. Annabeth and you had spent the days before leaning on each other, barely managing to get out of bed in the morning as you grieved for your friend.
When Percy showed up while the camp was in the process of burning his burial shroud, you had once again surprised everybody when you ran up to him, yelling at him for being so reckless before breaking down crying when he gathered you up in a hug.
You had to admit your feelings to yourself after that, especially when Annabeth ended up confronting you about it. When they finally got back from their quest, your friend had baited you into a trap by asking you to spar with her just to end up interrogating you.
She didn't have to push you much before you told her about your crush on the boy and Annabeth let you gush about him for a while, training completely forgotten as you sat facing each other, knees brushing as you let yourself be normal kids for once. Normal kids who giggled and whispered to each other about silly little crushes instead of worrying about dying or the end of the world
As you walked with Annabeth towards the Dining Pavilion, still lost in thoughts about Percy, you accidentally collided with Clarisse, causing the Ares girl to stumble and fall back. Before you could apologize, Clarisse's face twisted into an expression of anger as she jumped back to her feet and got into your face.
"What's your problem? Watch where you're going, idiot!" Clarisse taunted, her voice dripping with scorn.
You felt your face heat up with embarrassment, but before you could respond and stutter out how sorry you were and how it was an accident, Clarisse continued, her voice laced with mockery, "Too busy daydreaming about sharkboy to look where you're going? Keep dreaming, really, like he would ever be interested in someone like you."
Her words hit you like a punch to the gut, and you felt your heart sink. Immediate regret about voicing your feelings out loud washed over you. You had never really considered the possibility of Percy reciprocating your feelings, but hearing Clarisse make fun of it stung deeply. You glanced at Annabeth, tears already stinging in your eyes as you watched her expression harden, ready to defend you.
Just as Annabeth was about to speak up, the boy in question appeared out of nowhere, stepping in between you and the glowering girl. He crossed his arms and fixed Clarisse with an unwavering gaze.
"Hey, back off," Percy said, his voice firm.
Clarisse looked taken aback for a moment, but then a mischievous smirk spread across her face. "Aw, you got here just in time, Percy. Y/n was just talking about her crush on you."
You felt a mix of gratitude and embarrassment wash over you as Percy defended you, but the attention on your feelings felt overwhelming. This wasn't how you wanted him to find out, in fact, you didn't want him to know at all. Feeling your face burn, you turned on your heel and dashed away from the scene, your heart pounding. You couldn't handle Percy rejecting you in front of everybody.
You found solace in the quiet serenity of the beach, where the crashing waves drowned out the turmoil inside you. Sitting on the sand, you hugged your knees to your chest and tried to collect your thoughts.
As you pondered on how to avoid the son of Poseidon for the rest of the summer, a familiar voice called out your name. You looked up to see Percy making his way towards you, concern etched on his face. His blue shining eyes seemed to reflect the shimmering ocean, and you couldn't help but feel your heart skip a beat.
"Are you okay?" Percy asked softly, his voice filled with genuine worry.
You bit your lip, feeling the weight of embarrassment still lingering. He was probably about to let you down gently. At least no one was around to witness it here. "I'm sorry. It's just... it was so embarrassing. You weren't supposed to find out like that."
Percy sat down beside you, his presence bringing you some comfort even though he might be about to crush your heart into pieces. He reached out and gently took your hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "You have nothing to be embarrassed about."
"You don't have to say anything, by the way. I know it's stupid and I'm sure I'll get over this dumb crush soon,"  you muttered, unable to meet his eyes for fear of seeing judgment reflected there.
"I'm that easy to get over, huh?" he teased, trying to get a smile back onto your face. You just rolled your eyes, wiping the last of your tears from your cheek. "Well, that's a shame. Because I don't think I'll ever get over my feelings for you," he continued, his voice gentle as his thumb rubbed along the palm of your hand.
"Don't do that," you told him, assuming he was joking to cheer you up, but unable to stop the small smile tugging at the corners of your lips. Percy pulled your hand closer so you'd lean against him and you rested your head on his shoulder, letting yourself enjoy the warmth radiating from his body.
"I'm being serious here," he muttered into your hair, gaze fixed on your intertwined hands in his lap. "I like you, y/n. And don't hate me, but I'm kind of glad Clarisse announced your crush back there because I wouldn't have mustered up the nerves to do this otherwise."
Before you had the chance to ask what he was talking about or react to him admitting to liking you, he ducked down, pressing a soft kiss to your lips.

I LITERALLY SPAT OUT MY MACARONI AND CHEESE WHEN THIS POPPED IN MY HEAD OKAY OKAY SO
WHAT IF PERCIVAL AND LANCELOT WERE FROM THE SAME VILLAGE???
id always wondered how the hell they knew eachother and became friends and yeah sure they probably just met one day and decided “im gonna travel with you lol” or something b u t
what if theyd known eachother since they were little?? i dont remember the details of how lancelot lost his home but ive read from fics that it had something to do with his village catching on fire and him being the only survivor??
so what if cenreds men had been the ones to raid their village? lancelot thought he was the only survivor, having come out where he hid once the fires started to die down (maybe he leaves afterwards, comes across another village and so on). percival on the other hand was ushered out into the woods by his parents (eventually comes to meet some druids cuz at this point im just accepting him being raised by druids as canon)
