All the cool kids use ComicFury 😘
Hey y'all! If you love independent comic sites and have a few extra dollars in your pocket, please consider supporting ComicFury, the owner Kyo has been running it for nearly twenty years and it's one of the only comic hosting platforms left that's entirely independent and reminiscent of the 'old school' days that I know y'all feel nostalgic over.
Tumblr media
(kyo's sense of humor is truly unmatched lmao)
Here are some of the other great features it offers:
Message board forums! It's a gift from the mid-2000's era gods!
Entirely free-to-use HTML and CSS editing! You can use the provided templates, or go wild and customize the site entirely to your liking! There's also a built-in site editor for people like me who want more control over their site design but don't have the patience to learn HTML/CSS ;0
In-depth site analytics that allow you to track and moderate comments, monitor your comic's performance per week, and let you see how many visitors you get. You can also set up Google Analytics on your site if you want that extra touch of data, without any bullshit from the platform. Shit, the site doesn't come with ads, but you can run ads on your site. The site owners don't ask questions, they don't take a cut. Pair your site with ComicAd and you'll be as cool as a crocodile alligator !
RSS feeds! They're like Youtube subscriptions for millennials and Gen X'ers!
NSFW comics are allowed, let the "female presenting nipples" run free! (just tag and content rate them properly!)
Tagging. Tagging. Remember that? The basic feature that every comic site has except for the alleged "#1 webcomic site"? The independent comic site that still looks the same as it did 10 years ago has that. Which you'd assume isn't that big a deal, but isn't it weird that Webtoons doesn't?
Blog posts. 'Nuff said.
AI-made comics are strictly prohibited. This also means you don't have to worry about the site owners sneaking in AI comics or installing AI scrapers (cough cough)
Did I mention that the hosting includes actual hosting? Meaning for only the cost of the domain you can change your URL to whatever site name you want. No extra cost for hosting because it's just a URL redirect. No stupid "pro plan" or "gold tier" subscription necessary, every feature of the site is free to use for all. If this were a sponsored Pornhub ad, this is the part where I'd say "no credit card, no bullshit".
Don't believe me? Alright, look at my creator backend (feat stats on my old ass 2014 comic, I ain't got anything to hide LOL)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
TRANSCRIPTS! CHAPTER ORGANIZATION! MASS PAGE UPLOADING! MULTIPLE CREATOR SUPPORT! FULL HTML AND CSS SUPPORT! SIMPLIFIED EDITORS! ACTUAL STATISTICS THAT GIVE YOU WEEKLY BREAKDOWNS! THE POWER OF CHOICE!!
So yeah! You have zero reasons to not use and support ComicFury! It being "smaller" than Webtoons shouldn't stop you! Regain your independence, support smaller platforms, and maybe you'll even find that 'tight-knit community' that we all miss from the days of old! They're out there, you just gotta be willing to use them! ( ´ ∀ `)ノ~ ♡

should i read homestuck. like i feel it would be interesting so i could see what yall are talking about in regards to tlt but is homestuck actually good
"is homestuck good" - the greatest thread in the history of forums, locked by a moderator after 8129 pages of heated debate,
no but seriously, it highkey depends on 1. your definition of good and 2. your tolerance for stupid bullshit. as someone who read tlt and then hs, i'd say that being a fan of the chaotic aspect of tlt is a good predictor of being able to hang in with homestuck.
readmore because this. um. got long. the tl;dr is: i like homestuck a lot and i am glad i read it. i can't tell you if you should read it bc idk your tastes, but there is a lot to like and enjoy about it.
the official pitch for homestuck is something like "4 kids play a game and then a bunch of other shit happens." here's my pitch based on what the core of the story is to me:
several groups of characters across time, space, and reality are brought together in order to succeed at creating a new universe after their own are destroyed. this takes the form of a game, which is called sburb (by the humans) and sgrub (by the trolls). the characters must contend with an eternal battle against good and evil in which they are the deciding factor, and level up while following personalized quests. at its heart, homestuck is about relationships of every sort and how they shape us, growing up and the associated grief and loss, coming into ones identity and choosing who to be, predestination and fate, and stories themselves. it gets very meta at times, and the characters are semi to fully aware that they're characters, and attempt to subvert or escape that. it's got hordes of fleshed out, compelling characters, one of which will almost certainly glom onto you for the rest of your life, real emotion, extremely funny jokes, smart and exciting plotting, and some very cool moments. it more or less invented an entire new genre/medium, and plays with medium in a very cool way.
it is also clunky, hard to get into, and way too convoluted. you will never fully understand what's happening. there are tons of characters whose stories you will follow whom you simply do not care about. there are too many characters. it was written by an edgelord in 2009 so there's some unsavory humor and character writing. it's so fucking long. the ending kinda sucks because the fandom was so toxic that hussie simply wanted it over with. the fandom still kinda sucks tbh. so many people have wrong opinions about it. it requires a very specific lens to approach and understand it. i still dont understand what happened with that fucking puppet someone explain it to me.
overall, i'd say that if you think you want to read it, give it a shot. i have a complicated relationship with it but at the end of the day, i genuinely love the story and the characters and i know they will be with me forever. it certainly enhanced my understanding of tlt, and getting to read more of tamsyn's writing was such a bonus (even though her taste in pairings is. not the same as my own). and like honestly. it's just fun. even when you're going "wait what the fuck just happened" you're having fun. it's really goddamn funny too. it WILL change the way you speak and also think about romance forever.
the best way to read it is to have an experienced reader guide you, but if you or other people don't know anyone like that, here are my basic tips:
i think most people know this already, but download the unofficial homestuck collection. just do it. it's like 4 gigs and it's infinitely better than trying to read on the broken website, and it's even ad free. it can also be modded - for instance ik there's a slur replacer mod (lmao) if you don't want to read those
act 1 sucks to read. you're like what the fuck is this, THIS is homestuck?? the beginning is radically different from how it ends up, so just hang in there. for me, it really picked up somewhere in act 3. just focus on the silly fun the characters are having and you'll be good
things you should actually try to follow in the early acts: the concept of a sylladex existing (the various fetch modi are only there for jokes and eventually just kinda stop being a thing), where all the copies of the game are, what each kid's relationship with their guardian is like, the mechanics of the game and the lore behind it, including classpects and quests
things you do not have to waste brain space on: anything about how the totems work, what the various machines are, what the levels are, basically any of the jokes that would be funny to hussie's original intended audience of software engineers and rpg gamers. oh and the intermission with the midnight crew and the felt, just know that those are guys that exist and you'll be good.
and the biggest tip i have is just. go with it. suspend your disbelief. a lot of the worldbuilding doesn't really make sense, but it would be a worse story if it did. when the time shit and ectobiology come into play, literally just go ok got it and keep going, don't think too hard.
so yeah i don't even know if any of this is useful but i hope it helps you decide. and if you or anyone else have follow up questions send em!

Hello,
I’ve been a participant of NaNoWriMo for six years now, and a forums participant on the Young Writer’s Program for three years.
You might be wondering what’s happening on the forums, either on the YWP or the main NaNo site.
As far as I’m aware and have been involved, we brought up some concerns about neglectful moderation behavior on the adult site. Several adults supported us, and came out with their own allegations about neglectful or abusive moderation (for example, a moderator luring teens to a fetish website, who was fired but not banned, another one posting openly about porn who is still a moderator, and similar concerns.) On the YWP, our moderators, Rob Diaz and Marya Brennan have allowed open bullying and instead tone-policed those who fought back. They have allowed predator behavior on the site in several circumstances under the statement of “it does not explicitly violate our Codes” (despite it being open predatory behavior), and Rob Diaz has said racist things to another user in response to a Thanksgiving PSA.
The Board of Directors has now said that they did not know there was a separate YWP forum in the first place.
On the YWP side of things, the forums are being shut down indefinitely, and we are awaiting another response from the Board of Directors.
Please do not donate to NaNoWriMo.
Contact local schools and make them aware of the situation, and discourage advertising the YWP to kids.
I will reblog other posts from my fellow YWP users that h give more specific details.

When I was a kid my friend owned a very popular forum filled predominantly with preteens, most of whom had met on Neopets. So anyway my friend went on vacation and for whatever reason left no one to moderate the forum, and when the kids inevitably started testing limits only to find there were none in place then all heck broke loose. What still stands out to me were all the pictures of my friend that she herself had, perhaps naively, featured on the home page that were reposted again and again by the users; my friend’s teeth bashed in, nazi symbols on her forehead, aggressively crude phrases about her body written over them…
And then I think about the bizarre hard right the nation and the world have taken and see the same thing happening: a bunch of children testing their boundaries only to find there are none. Some of the kids from the forum set up a new forum “where they could be free of all the oppressive rules” and poached nearly the entire original forum’s membership. Even those who were indifferent or sympathetic with my friend moved over because, well, that’s what everybody else was doing.
Something to think about. Especially since those kids are now my age and can vote and run for office.

[Helluva Boss AU where Blitzø’s childhood theft from Stolas’ palace is discovered and major consequences ensue for everyone involved.]
[Part 22/?? Word count: 1236 Cw: drug use, addiction, language]
—————
Barb sorted through Fizzarolli’s fan mail in her tiny office. Ostensibly, she was her friend’s bodyguard whenever he was in Greed; she was also acting as his assistant. Mammon didn't want anyone on his payroll wasting time. Technically, she worked for Fizz, which meant she could refuse the Sin. But doing administrative tasks when Fizz wasn’t surrounded by fans kept Mammon from grumbling at his brand face.
And he needed help with the mail. The Fizzies had launched in full two weeks before the fifth annual clown pageant. Fizzarolli had won that as well; his upgraded extendable limbs added to his already impressive act.
Barb had to give some credit to Mammon, he knew how to market people and products. Fizz’s second win in a row and his comeback story with the launch of Fizzy robots for every occasion, all of Hell knew the imp’s face. And they were willing to pay Mammon’s prices for merchandise.
All that exposure meant fans and fans meant all sorts of messages. Letters, forum messages, Sinstagram posts, fanart both wholesome and lewd. Mammon had a PR team for all the digital content, since that was public. The physical mail also went through the PR team before being sent to Fizz. There was still a massive amount needing replies, which Barb was helping with.
“Jesus H. Christ,” she muttered, sorting through the day's pile. There wasn’t anything dangerous in the envelopes, Mammon’s people saw to that. But the amount of requests for feet pics, pictures of Fizz without his prosthetics, offers for ‘a good time’ and straight up pornographic fanart was ridiculous. Barb felt like her eyes needed bleach some days, but she didn’t want her friend dealing with this nonsense alone. “I keep telling the assholes to not send the skeevy shit but do they listen? Noooooo, it’s ‘not their job to moderate content.’ Bullshit, you’re a PR team, it is your fucking job.”
The rejected pile steadily rose and the accepted pile gradually had a few letters added. Then she saw a name that made her want to scream. More than fan mail sorting usually did.
Blitzø.
Her fucking traitor twin. The scumbag who left- who abandoned his family and friends to be a royal pet. And now he was sending Fizzarolli fan mail?!
“What the fuck are you pulling Blitzo?” she hissed at the envelope in her claws. Nothing from him for years and once Fizz is successful and famous he tries to contact them? Not even ‘them,’ the envelope was addressed to Fizz.
Barb could tell from the feel of the envelope there were several pages in the letter. She wasn’t going to read it and she sure as shit wasn’t going to send it Fizz’s way. Most of the rejected mail was just shredded. She scrawled ‘RETURN TO SENDER’ in bold red marker. Hopefully the asshat would get the hint.
Later that day, as she and Fizz were finishing up the handful of responses to fans (mostly to kids) she debated on whether to tell him about the letter. Barb decided she’d better, in case the traitor tried to get in touch another way.
“You got another letter that went into the reject pile.” Fizz quirked an eyebrow. She usually didn’t mention the mail she filtered out unless it was important or particularly hilarious. “It was from Blitzo.”
Fizz gripped the pen he was using. His mechanical fingers twitched and the plastic tube snapped in half, creating a spray of ink. Ichor drained from his face, then his cheeks flushed again in anger. “The fuck does that asshole want?”
Barb shrugged. “Dunno. Didn’t read it, I just sent it back. Figured it can’t be that important, coming from a traitorous dickhead only when you’re famous.” He looked at her, anger at Blitzo warring with gratitude for her in his expression. “If he sends any more, I’ll send ‘em right back. Should probably tell the PR guys he might contact you another way though.”
He dumped the ruined gel pen in the trash bin and grabbed a tissue to clean his hand. “Fuck, Ozzie’s gonna be pissed if this gets in the joints. Thanks for looking out for me Barb.”
“Course Fizz. We look out for each other, right?” She decided to ignore his mention of Asmodeus. He’d been spending more time with the Sin of Lust, even now that the Fizzy robot development was done for the time being. What the fuck is it with royal demons and imp guys? she thought to herself.
Fizzarolli gave her a shaky smile and tossed the ink covered tissue into the trash. “Well I’m not up for answering more mail. Wanna call it a day and grab something terrible for us?”
Barb stood up and stretched, popping vertebrae down her spine and tail. “Thought you had a dinner meeting with Asmodeus.” She knew he did, she had to know his schedule. If he was going to be with a Deadly Sin, he really didn’t need her acting as bodyguard.
“Shit, I almost forgot. It’s not business though, if you wanna join u-“
“I’ll pass. Don’t wanna be a third wheel and all that shit.” She’d tagged along with Fizz and Ozzie once before and swore never again. Not unless she had her own date. No matter how much the two men denied it, she could see where things were headed.
Fizz stammered, “We-we’re not an item Barb! I keep telling you, it’s just business and the occasional fuck.”
“So if tonight isn’t business it’s the ‘occasional’ fuck.” She made air quotes as she walked out of the room with him. “Still don’t wanna be around for that Fizz. Have fun, I’ll see you tomorrow.” Fizz waved as she headed out the building; he had to text Ozzie to send a car up to Greed and wait for his ride.
Getting something terrible to eat sounded amazing though, so she got cheap Chinese food on the way home. The staff knew her usual order and she soon had a takeout bag in one hand and an extra egg roll to snack on as she walked.
Her studio apartment, decorated haphazardly in rock music paraphernalia, was unsurprisingly empty. She managed to keep most of her emotions at bay as she watched a hellanovella and devoured her fried rice. But there was an end to the episode and comfort food.
Anger and confusion and loneliness bubbled up. She chucked an empty takeout box at the wall and gripped the sides of her head. “Goddammit Blitzo! You’re not even here and you’re fucking up my life.” Just the reminder that he existed sent her spiraling into the worst memories.
Her brother abandoning them. Her mom covering bruises. Her dad’s rising anger towards her and Fizz. Straining to match Fizz as a partner. Fighting creeps and stalkers. The fire. Finding Fizz. Finding…her mom.
“FUCK!” she yelled, throwing a wooden chopstick after the box. She didn’t want to think about it. She didn’t want to think about anything. Barb had promised herself she wouldn’t use again; she’d been clean the past four months. But Barb four months ago hadn’t expected Blitzo to resurface. So today’s Barb unblocked her dealer’s number to see if she could hook her up fast.
As it turned out, her dealer could. And she got a second ‘something terrible’ that let her not think about anything until the high wore off.

Levi Strauss heir will reportedly challenge London Breed in 2024
SF Mayor London Breed will reportedly face another 2024 challenger: a Levi Strauss heir
Alec Regimbal, SFGATE
Updated: July 18, 2023 10:02 a.m.
"An heir to the Levi Strauss fortune will reportedly challenge San Francisco Mayor London Breed for her seat in next year’s election, according to a report from the San Francisco Standard.
What to know about the Pier 39 sea lions
The report said Daniel Lurie has yet to formally announce his candidacy or file the paperwork necessary to begin raising money, but several sources who have knowledge of his plans told the Standard that he’s been “hosting gatherings to rally support.” The Standard also reported that Lurie has begun recruiting staff and is being helped by Tyler Law — a political consultant whose firm has assisted in state and national races, including the presidential campaigns of Barack Obama and Pete Buttigieg.
A San Francisco native, Lurie is the founder of Tipping Point Community, a nonprofit aimed at combating poverty in the Bay Area. Lurie is also the son of Mimi Haas, who married the late philanthropist Peter Haas — the great-grandnephew of Levi Strauss — after her divorce from Brian Lurie, a prominent rabbi. Mimi Haas owns 11% of Levi Strauss & Co. shares, making her the single largest shareholder in a company that’s worth more than $5 billion today.
Lurie did not reply to a request for comment from SFGATE.
The news that Lurie is reportedly planning to launch a campaign comes at time when San Francisco voters are largely unhappy with Breed’s performance as mayor. A pair of recently released polls show that voters are concerned primarily about drugs, public safety, homelessness and housing affordability, and generally disapprove of the way Breed is handling those issues. The mayor’s office did not immediately reply to a request for comment from SFGATE about Lurie’s reported plans.
The only prominent challenger to Breed who has formally announced their campaign for mayor is District 11 Supervisor Ahsha Safaí, who told the San Francisco Chronicle in May, “People are very dissatisfied with the current mayor, dissatisfied with the condition of the city, and they’re looking for change.” (The Chronicle and SFGATE are both owned by Hearst but have separate newsrooms.)
Safaí, like Breed, is seen as a moderate Democrat, which sets them apart from the more progressive members of the city’s political arena. A source close to Lurie told the Standard that they believe he can offer a “similar but fresher alternative to the moderate Democratic platform of Breed.” That means, unless a prominent progressive enters the race, voters might be choosing among candidates with similar platforms.
Apart from his work with Tipping Point Community — he stepped down as CEO in 2019 — Lurie is mostly known for his ties to the Levi Strauss fortune. In 2021, he reportedly purchased an estate in Point Dume, a promontory on the coast of Malibu, for $15.5 million.
The Standard reported that Lurie lives in Potrero Hill with his wife Becca Prowda, who works for California Gov. Gavin Newsom, and their two kids."
And Governor Gavin Newsom is a World Economic Forum puppet, having been involved with that totally unregulated, foreign body who become giddy at the thought of running the entire planet. I don't get San Franciscans not understanding what's going on. I looked up Mayor London Breed, and while she's not perfect, Breed has enacted a lot of policy changes to improve the city. The fact that there are so many local 'Progressives' against her, tells me Mayor Breed is actually worth keeping. Note that it's not just Progressives but the Predatory classes, like Musk and his Silicon Valley ilk who are trying to run her out of office. We all saw similar coups go down in New York and Chicago and the jury is still out on Mayor Eric Adams, who recently tried cutting the budget of N.Y. libraries. But Mayor Breed stopped a new private prison from being built. I thought that was something these faketivists wanted.
COVID-19 response
'San Francisco issued a state of emergency because of COVID-19 in February 2020, before the federal government suggested doing so, and San Francisco became one of the first American cities to go into lockdown. On March 2, Breed advised residents, "Prepare for possible disruption from an outbreak". Under the state of emergency, private gyms were required to shut down, but the city government petitioned Cal/OSHA for a waiver to allow various government employees to continue to use gyms in city-owned facilities, which were allowed to continue to operate.
On April 24, 2020, Breed reported that her city's PPE orders had been diverted to other cities and countries. She said, "We’ve had issues of our orders being relocated by our suppliers in China. For example, we had isolation gowns on their way to San Francisco and they were diverted to France. We’ve had situations when things we’ve ordered that have gone through Customs were confiscated by FEMA to be diverted to other locations." Wiki
We never got an investigation into what was going on with the PPE gowns and other equipment during covid. I'm guessing certain parties don't want it brought up because someone has to explain why, if Trump and Kushner were only sending equipment to states that support him, while having their Chinese allies block delivery to cities such as San Francisco, how did Bernie Sanders and Vermont come out on top? There were NO interruptions in their supply.
How much is the Strauss family worth?
$4 billion
Their collective net worth is over $4 billion. And revenues are up nearly 30% from 2020. There are also plans in motion to expand and innovate the business by offering a more convenient shopping experience using AI. The company has also acquired the major active wear brand, Beyond Yoga.Apr 1, 2022

Ngl at this point its seeming more and more like we should resort back to using forum sites instead of reddit for niche information and like making general communities. Like yeah, the main pros of reddit is like, its all in one place, its all accessible, and its all pretty well moderated. On paper, it's basically a better form of a forum. HOWEVER!
Cons of reddit include: - Spam bots - Scam bots - Reddit can literally disable a subreddit for no reason at all - Reddit can make really shitty decisions - If there's a strike, a bunch of information becomes inaccessible - Deleted posts that likely had the answer just stay for no reason - Mods (mostly those who adopted the subreddit from other means) that don't care about their communities let their communities run unmoderated a good chunk of the time, which wraps back to point 3 Meanwhile, a forum: PROS: - 80% of the time made by people who have a genuine love for their communities or the topic it's made for - Are WAY more organized than just flares or [Title Flares] - Good moderation a good chunk of the time - Mods typically can be more incentivized to be active in their communities - Mods can't be replaced without manual input, prevents the last con of reddit stated - When a forum dies, so long as the web hosting is being kept up, all the information is still there - If a forum can't keep itself up anymore, it can be properly archived through archive.org or alternatives CONS: - Forums are mostly a product of their communities, meaning less-than-ideal environments can formulate there (racists, sexists, homophobia, etc.) - Forums can be taken down at any time by their webmasters, sometimes before they're given a chance to be archived - Sometimes you might need to make an account and sign in to get information - Mods can be even bigger dicks than on reddit (I'm probably missing a lot more cons on forums but those are most of the one's I've experienced when I was a part of mostly game forums and minecraft and minecraft server forums as a kid)

strudel and the rest of the party from the campaign he's in will be in @group-oc-tournament, so here's a giant propaganda post about everyone's favorite pastry boy!
for some context, strudel is an au of captain starburst who's an au of nix... there's a lot of aus of that guy. nix is from my story grievance, he's a god living in a place called the purpose and he's battling feelings of anger, jealousy, and loneliness. unfortunately, he doesn't have the best influence by his side.
captain starburst is an au of him for me and my friends' shared superheroes/villains setting, superverse! he's a super upbeat and excitable hero who's learned to control his dangerous powers and use them to benefit his goal of helping people, at the cost of covering up his own negative emotions. also, he's married. all you really need to know is that strudel is an au of starburst, who's a superhero that's gay married. that's really all that's relevant, context wise. i just like to talk about my favorite guys.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
starswirl strudel, or just strudel, was the protagonist of 2017 kids' cartoon sugar and spice. it takes place in a world made up of furries based around desserts, called sweets, in the bustling town of saccharine city. the show followed him, silly nerdy comic book-obsessed strudel, in his quest to become a real life superhero in a world where superheroes are only fiction. his best friend cinnasparkle bunbun keeps trying to talk him out of it, but strudel is determined. strudel eventually gets the hang of his new hobby, and ends up stumbling into an evil lair. unbeknownst to him, while he was working to become a superhero, someone else was working to become a supervillain. their name is peppermint patty, a dastardly force working to destroy saccharine city for good. the two become rivals and enemies fast, though... strudel seems a bit more interested in their henchman, really. gumdrop, or just gummy, is a goofy sour gummy worm-based snake working for patty. he's not very good at his job, much to patty's chagrin, but strudel quickly finds himself enchanted with him. after dancing around it, in the middle of season two, the two of them finally end up getting into a relationship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
unfortunately, due to the gay pairing and the show's general embrace of its progressive ideals and gender nonconformity, the show was cancelled shortly after. it still has a dedicated fanbase, but the show hasn't seen much attention since the cancellation. and apparently the show's creator went missing soon after, isn't that weird? before it ended, two prototype plushies had been made for the show. they were never mass produced, and due to the absence of the creator, left to rot in a closet. all but forgotten.
Tumblr media
forgotten, that is, until one of them came to life. strudel began his new life locked in a closet alone, screaming for help in his new claustrophobic prison. he eventually managed to get out and bring gummy, now just a plushie, with him, settling into a small apartment where he could hide his identity. he became a massive shut-in, barely ever leaving unless he needed necessities, spending all his time on the computer or obsessively rewatching episodes of sugar and spice. he started collecting toys, especially merchandise of sugar and spice (fanmade or official). he continued to love superhero comics, becoming a moderator of a popular comic book forum, though he was frequently mistreated for having more "childish" interests and, well, being gay.
Tumblr media
he carries the plushie of his boyfriend with him everywhere, including under his cloak when he goes out. he talks to it and treats him like he's still the same person, because to strudel he is. he hopes that someday he'll talk back. his life continued this way for a while, a sad, silent solitude, almost letting himself rot away in the same way he'd been rotting away in that closet. that is, until he saw a quaint advertisement for a spooky island trip. tired of being all alone, he decided that surely a trip with a group of strangers to a scary haunted island would be a great way to finally branch out and make some new friends! well, unfortunately, things went about as bad as they possibly could've, with the immediate death of the group leader. that was followed by their ship getting hijacked and taken to a definitely actual haunted island, full of monsters and the fact that death is impermanent. i'll save the rest for any other member of the group who wants to elaborate on the current island happenings, since this is just a strudel backstory post. he's some flavor of gay, he has a plushie boyfriend, and he's soft and smells like cotton candy pastries! (probably a better combination than you'd think.) if those are any reasons to vote for him <3 below i'll link art of him from my art blog, for anyone who wants to see a little more of him!

all my friends are doing art fight and it looks fun but the content moderation on nudity/sexual themes is so contradictory, it doesn't seem worth it to deal with
YEAH i get you completely.... i entirely understand barring off sexual content since the site is popular with kids--but there's irony in the fact that UNTIL TODAY* minors could still enable visibility on suggestive content on the site. so what was even the point? *as i was writing this i checked a forum surrounding the site and they finally fixed this today...... wow. ON THE OTHER HAND. some of the tagging is suuuch a joke... i have human/oid ocs with barbiedoll crotches or shirtless references for top scars/torso details yet i've gotten messages from mods saying i have to put a content warning because of their nipples?? but stated in the rules, this is completely fine for people's fursonas... and nipples on ferals (which honestly just screams "i draw porn!" to me lmfao) are completely allowed.
i do absolutely encourage you to participate because it IS genuinely fun! i complain about the site--partially because it kind of deserves it--but i'll still be taking part in it LOL. my issue is that artfight has been running for like...eight years now? i've been there for six of them. each year it just gets worse. they don't seem to be doing anything to aid the servers for the influx of people joining each year, act really immature on the discord instead, and put in really pointless and biased content censors for people who i can only assume are coming from tiktok. if you have toyhou.se and love eating up internet drama, this forum thread is great to learn about the craziness around the site. tldr: jesus christ.

Honestly it sucks that we’re all forced to use like 3-4 major social media websites because everything died. I know it sucks for teens especially because there used to be many websites which had proper moderation and was definitely safer for kids (not entirely but still better than now)
I totally understand where they’re coming from. The end of flash destroyed many good websites, but that’s also why we have # now
We also have separate group chats or discord servers. I know it’s not the same, but these are technically spaces too. And if it says adults only, then minors have no place in there
And also I think growing up with social media is the worst, but I also understand that you can’t really do anything outside either. Kids aren’t safe outside, like, have you heard about the poor child who got shot because he rang the wrong door??? Or how a kid who was going around collecting bugs was reported to the police? Aside from that, there’s nothing else outside kids can really enjoy. And that’s bad
I get why minors are on social media, they have nowhere else to go. But when they are kindly asked to stop telling adults what they do with their accounts, then I want them to respect that
The problem with discord is that one asshole can join a discord and completely ruin the culture of a server. This happened far less often with forms, since it was harder to get in contact with the mods.
There's also less of a learning curve for discord moderation vs forum moderation. Any average Joe can make a discord, and a discord is only as good as its mods. You can have the best discord culture known to man, but if the mods refuse to make calls in line with the current culture, it will become the most boring, sanitized place to be. (Shoutout to that time character death was banned in a Danganronpa server. What next? A marley and me server where you can't mention dogs?)
Also, its impossible to simply lurk in a discord server without letting anyone know you're here. Before I publically announce my presence, I want to have a good grasp on the culture. I need to know if I'm wandering into a den of lions.
I agree that the outside world is less safe for teenagers, but parents are definitely up playing it to keep their kids in the house. A lot of those cases are one in a million.

Another Kermit and Friends Interview from July 31, 2022 (summary/notes part 2)
Next guest says they were blocked on twitter by Greg. They say they are fond of him, but they get frustrated with him when he responds to haters because there are things he leaves out they they think he should admit. Interviewer and Greg asks what. The guest says when it comes to the forums, his fans made the posts and he was just reacting to what the fans wanted him to do. (He actually originally made the topics on the original 2016 Onision.co forum for fans to submit photos. The he moved to tumblr and he would come up with topics for fans to submit photos of at the end of his videos. It wasn't really until the 2016 onision.xyz forum he made after that that the fans began creating the topics.) The second thing the guest says that should be clarified is the moderation should have been increased and the pictures should have been vetted because there were underage girls in his videos. They say he did not say anything sexual about underage girls. (There were lots of underage girls because on the three platforms I mentioned previously there was no age restrictions on all three of them. He would say anyone of any age was allowed to submit photos and he did rate underage people's looks/attractiveness and blatantly read off their ages in the video.) The interviewer has no idea what this person if referring to. The guest says a couple months ago they were kicked out of Onision's discord and blocked on twitter. They said they got blocked because they were stating facts, but he didn't 100% agree with it. Guest says they loved Onision for 10 years and they watched him since they were a kid.
Greg says he blocked thousands of people and he blocked anyone who says "ratioed" and anyone who likes those tweets.
Greg says the problem with what the guest said about the forums is on the site he repeatedly said he could only use images that was Youtube appropriate. If there was an issue with the content, then that's Youtube's problem because everything abided by Youtube's policy. He says the forum repeatedly through multiple generations of the forums stated you had to be 18+ to submit. He says it was 18+ for the majority of the site's existence. (Wow this is new careful wording. Interesting. He's been consistently solidly saying his forums were 18+ since around 2018 I believe.) He says the guest is right that the topics were user requested and he wasn't telling them to submit stuff. He says he would make the rating videos because that's what people asked him for and from then on people called him a pedophile. He says he's addressed what the guest said before, but his videos don't go far.
He says someone took a part of the video where he says someone blackmailed him and they took the part of the video that fit their narrative and ignored the beginning of the video where it contradicted their narrative. (I still have no idea which clip he's referring to.)
He says in the doc they used a clip of him as the joker saying something to someone and they didn't show she was hugging and kissing him. (Shiloh) He says he broke up with them because they got pregnant with someone else's baby while cheating on him. He says she's on this documentary saying the joker things was real. (No she didn't. She actually made a tweet clarifying it was part of a skit.) He says she completely reinvented the past. He says a year or two prior, she sent an email to him and his s/o wishing them well. (If this is the emailed he shared online, that was from like 2012 or 2013. Not a year or two before 2019 when she came out and told her story.)
He says there was an Adele song where she talks about showing up on someone's doorstep after they are married and he says she told him that would be her one day. He says that's terrifying. He says she promised to destroy him in a video and the police hauled her away and he says no one cares.
Interviewer asks why someone would cheat on him. He says she said she had sepsis and she had medical coverage in Canada so he flew her back on his dime. He was paying her thousands monthly to make sure she was cared for. He says he doesn't know if the sepsis was true and he made a video listing her lies. She told him her passport was lost so he sent her money to get a new one. He says her uncle contacted him and said she was a hardcore pathological liar and the uncle claimed she didn't lose her passport. Greg chose to believe her. He says a fan emailed him and showed him what her new boyfriend was posting about having sex with her. He says he had a mental breakdown and cried and walked to Denny's. He says 10 years later she was paid 20 to 40 grand based on receipts he's seen and based on what someone (Sarah) told him because they said they could pay for a down payment on a house.
He says whenever he would try to break up with her (back to Shiloh), she would pull the "I'm going to kill myself" thing. He says once she said she was actively walking up a building to kill herself so he had to get back together with her. He says it's like the meltdown video where she said she would destroy him. (He tells the suitcase, leaf story again. I'm tired of typing the same stories over and over, sorry. I'm just going to name the stores like I used to if he's told them a lot and adds nothing new.) [Fire department bringing her back to the house story.] [Knock out by trainer story.] He says people use her as the leading example that he's a monster. [She threatened a different ex story.] He says everyone who watched back then know everyone was begging him to leave her.
Next guest asks about the FBI. Greg says they felt like it was such a non-threat there was zero communication with him. [Fed dog muffin, animal control story.] He says every time the police were called, it was bullshit. He says he was confirmed a good dad by CPS and a good pet owner by animal control.
Guest asks for advice on cyber stalking. He says the internet is the wild west.
Next guest points out Kai has said he had sex with Onision when he was only 17 so he did have sex with an underage person. They start talking about when Onision tried having sex with a third when they were there for Kai, but the interviewer boots them and says the guest gets confused sometimes. (Lol) Greg says he never did anything with (Sarah) when she was underage and she confirmed that.
He says people on his forums lied about how old they were. He says those rating videos would get 10,000 likes each and people would love making those videos with him, but there was a culture change that made those videos awful later but it was celebrated back then. He says his audience was assholes because they requested the videos then they said it was all his idea.
Greg says he never was peer pressured into using drugs because as a teen he spent all his time making forums and videos. He says he's addicted to work. Says he dated people who smoked weed in places where it wasn't legal. [Person he dated as a teen story, Billie weed story]
Next gusts asks Greg to be on his podcast. Greg tells him to contact him.
Interviewer wants to do a road trip and pick up Onision.
Greg says his priorities in life are humble and his interest in fame was crippled. He said he had wealth before. He says at his peak he would get 80 million views a month which would equate to back then $80,000 in one month. (He later says most months was 20 to 40 grand) He had two Teslas, but when he had the success and fame he was still unhappy. He says the fans he had were pieces of shit because they betrayed him over untrue bullshit. He says that tells him they were never a fan, unlike the people on his current site who care about him. He says they prove that by funding his site.

REDSTRING.BOARD.NET, a shady conspiracy theorist forum akin to somethingawful, reddit and 4chan
A hotbed for mundane humans to explore and discuss their experiences with the supernatural (real or imagined), it's become the canary in the coal mine for many secretive organizations looking for breaches in the collective charade.
It's harder than you think to find what you're looking for, the forum's a barely moderated mess oozing with crazy people who think they're sane and sane people who think they're crazy.
In the end you stumble across a thread that piques your interest.

Thread started by USER: comradewaffulz (CW)
DATE: AUG 5th 2121 06:54
"URSUMBA/URSUMBRA ONLINE REAL?"
CW: [a video of a black rabbit shaped creature with glowing eyes looming over a child's crib, taken from the doorway to the child's bedroom]
CW: ok but, i'm not crazy right? this looks like one of the enemies from that ursumbra game everybody played back in high school?
CW: like??? there's been a spike in missing children's cases lately and when the cops go to check out the crime scenes theres always black goo around and the parents mention at least one of their kids toys is missing, thats *too* close to the main storyline to be a coincidence right
UrsumbraUnderlord (UU): [user was banned for this post, reason: unrelated]
[DELETED USER] (AG): oh my god how is a bot on here
[DELETED USER] (PR): lol get fucked
PR: but you're right CW, it is stupidly similar. if it wasn't for the fact that kids are actually disappearing i'd say it was a PR stunt.
AG: are you a PR stunt lmao
PR: shut the fuck up
AG: you'd think they'd test the goo tho
PR: maybe they have.
AG: good point…
CW: id say its weird that none of this has hit the news yet but lbr if anything on this board was in the news iit would be for the wrong reasons
PR: it'd be fucked up if the devs tried to claim this shit.
CW: but like... is this happening BECAUSE of the game or did the devs know about these creatures and make the game based on them
PR: if there's anything remotely like the game they're probably absolutely exhausted of this shit
KintsugiKitsune (KK): LOL COULD U IMAGINE?? BEING A WHOLE ASS NIGHTMARE AND SOMEONE MAKES A STUPOD GAME ABOUT U GRTTING YOUR ASS BEAT BY  A FUZZY BUNNY
KK: ID GO APESHIT TOO LOL
PR: people are going missing KK
KK: SUCKS TO BD THEM LOL
[CW has kicked/banned KK]
CW: God you suck
CW: anyway
CW: I wonder if anything fucky has happened in game since this shit started
PR: I mean I doubt it, that would be too on the nose right? Some true creepy pasta bullshit
CW: ok but, has anybody checked?
AG: game's basically dead, the dev team abandoned it shortly after launch cuz it wasn't making the money they hoped it would.
AG: wasted big bucks on pop culture tie-ins for merch and item skins too
AG: if anybody still plays they've probably been around since day one
PR: I heard they quit cuz they couldn't get Server Moon to host for them
AG: por que no los dos?
AG: the original game was pretty ok for an rpgmaker project, dunno why the studio that bought it thought something that intensely personal would translate into an MMORPG though
AG: anyway, if you wanna see if the game is borked you'd have to do it yourself CW
CW: fine, I will

The last message is dated a week after the thread started and merely asks if anyone has seen comradewaffulz.
There are no further replies or answers, no other threads on this topic.
The gap in your knowledge stares back at you like an empty eye socket and chills you to the bone.
This isn't an isolated incident, this has been going on for at least a year.
Maybe even longer.
And nobody's noticed.
You thumb the little foil packet in your hand, feeling the chip inside floating delicately in its bath of stasis gel.
You wonder if this is really worth it.
If you couldn't just… back out now and find a halfway decent lawyer to cover your ass when the Tower comes knocking.
…but now you're curious.

Thoughts from the ether: a Testimony
Thinking about how much I missed this site. As a 90's kid in the Pacific Northwest, I grew up through different waves of technology. I can still feel the fresh action on the L/R bumpers of my first Super Nintendo controller. I can smell the plastic of a fresh videogame or the hot reels of a recently rewound VHS.
AOL Messenger and T-9 texting would change my life in complex and likely generationally toxic ways. The comforting and yet isolating reality that was moderating an internet forum for people who believed in tales of Bigfoot, werewolves, vampires, and other cryptids when I was (maybe) 13 -- the feeling of that reality anyways-- still clings around my ribcage on days when I feel the internet has gone completely mad. I have seen such terrors here.
I am a witness- as an author, writer, and rogue scholar with an unused cultural anthropology degree -- My analysis is that the internet has been a leap that only gunpowder, Nuclear Power, and the undeniable fascination our species has with the holy trinity of Love, sex, and food can possibly compare too. Technology, by full definition, is so much more than the discovery of a new thing. It is the rituals around how we use them. How these "Objects" of ours (be that object a focus on a thought or way of thinking, a belief, or a new method for chipping arrowheads) define our lives.
I have witnessed global warming go ignored by the world's governments for my whole life. I was traumatized by the "end" of the aids crisis and survived doing all I could to pray away the "sin" of being queer (oh what shame, being so far from a god that I have no reason to believe in)// I digress, or refrain, or surrender this emotional moment to you... Anger makes me ramble, and I am tired. // The point was that ideas as "objects" directly impact our actions and paint our internal worlds. The thinking around our technology shapes everything we do, and in that way [returning to the main topic] I think the internet is "too good" at spreading ideas.
Conspiracies are real, and that sad fact has made false ones bloom here like aggressive algae. People hurt each other here faster than most in our species could ever have dreamed to do with words in ages past. We are connected now in more ways than any past philosopher could possibly have had a nightmare of let alone a forbidden dream.
In short, I think our reckless leaping into the deep end of this new technology has wrought reckless side effects too numerous to list here.
For one, the concept of time is now entirely f@cked.
A layer of reality has been peeled back. We are all the peelers and the peeled. It hurts, I think, but in some good ways. We all seem to find our joy, I guess
I will admit, there has been much good in it too. This technology gave many of us a safe refuge from the world outside that by any proper assessment is eating us, or trying it's best to. (Capitalism is a monster of an "Object" we can dive into some other time.
I guess, if I was asked to describe the internet in the future, I would say it is some kinder form of Rumor(Fama) - a strange goddess from ancient times, captured best by Ovid in book 12 of The Metamorphoses:
{{There is a place at the centre of the World, between the zones of earth, sea, and sky, at the boundary of the three worlds. From here, whatever exists is seen, however far away, and every voice reaches listening ears. Rumour lives there, choosing a house for herself on a high mountain summit, adding innumerable entrances, a thousand openings, and no doors to bar the threshold. It is open night and day: and is all of sounding bronze. All rustles with noise, echoes voices, and repeats what is heard. There is no peace within: no silence anywhere. Yet there is no clamour, only the subdued murmur of voices, like the waves of the sea, if you hear them far off, or like the sound of distant thunder when Jupiter makes the dark clouds rumble.
Crowds fill the hallways: a fickle populace comes and goes, and, mingling truth randomly with fiction, a thousand rumours wander, and confused words circulate. Of these, some fill idle ears with chatter, others carry tales, and the author adds something new to what is heard. Here is Credulity: here is rash Error, empty Delight, and alarming Fear, sudden Sedition, and Murmurings of doubtful origin. Rumour herself sees everything that happens in the heavens, throughout the ocean, and on land, and inquires about everything on earth.}}
I am a storyteller, that I can not hide. But I hope I can leave you with some hope that I think there is still enough good in us (collectively) I... think I have seen it at least. But I am spending less time on here - the internet- and I think we all need to unplug more.
Some of us need to shake the impulse to reach over to our phone in the dead of night. Speaking mostly for myself, surely.
Anyway, I have to go now.
My hope is that I have passed you by in these halls in the house of Fama, and passed along some Truth and that you find my truths joyful.

Eliezer
Tumblr media
Dear Caroline:
Well, here's a post of yours that hasn't aged at all. I don't know if you are too busy with the court case to pay attention to anything else, but you must have heard perforce of all the recent ruckus about Chat GPT and AI, and of Eliezer's coming into the limelight through a Time article and a series of podcasts -one of them, with Lex Fridman, another, a TED talk that hasn't been made available yet.
I think I mentioned in a previous instance that I am actually reading HPMOR on the side (it is too big to be the Carolingian book of a month as yet; I am about a quarter through it). I am finding it moderately likeable, but also get the feeling that it's Nerd Bait at its worst: it is the sort of text that would entice young, full-of-themselves, sciency, nerdy and gifted kids/teens that feel they know the answers to everything and are smarter than everybody else (especially the adult world). Which, to be fair, is at least partially true with some of this audience, but that's double the danger, in fact, as I fear it would delude and stoke your arrogance and self-confidence to dangerous levels and make it a bubble ready to be burst in the most self-catastrophic scenarios possible.
Needless to say, Yud seems to be quite smart, but also to show those signs of the 'obsessive-compulsive outcast with delusions of grandeur and a hyperbolic appreciation of his own genius' that would make his book and characters appealing to the previously stated audience. Quirks and gestures aside, his arguments sound moderately reasonable in public, and would feel a tad more so if they weren't so doomerist. This, in fact, seems like a self-defeating strategy: if he really believes our p(doom) is higher than 99%, there really is no rational point in doing anything (including his outreach efforts); if it is much lower, hyping it up seems a terrible strategy for being taken seriously.
One thing I do take issue though, both with him, his book and the implicit argument you make here, even if partly in jest, is your commonly held belief in the undesirability of truth made publicly known except for the 'elect' who can use it wisely. In this I intensely disagree, because as you should know by now, truth-telling is the quasi-religious foundation of my moral inclination towards Deontology, with complete indifference to consequences -definitely a crux of mine with Utilitarianism. And yet I feel there is a paradox here, as much of the ideas of HPMOR, Rationalism and Yudkowsky seem to center on an inflexible pursuit of truth and avoidance of self-delusion (even if the ultimate motivation for this is 'power' instead of 'truth' as an end in itself).
As a side note: I have never had a direct interaction with Yudkowsky, but one of the first times I read him was in a post of his in the EA forum about you. I felt he wasn't been kind or fair enough to you, and among other things, I had this to say: "As Eliezer Yudkowsky mentions Caroline Ellison's blog, I would like to say that I have been reading it of late, and even taking into account the potential deceitfulness of  words and the pictures we build with them, I do not get from both its contents and her general trajectory that she could be a morally bankrupt person. On the contrary, the impression I got is of a true believer, and a good person. This does not preclude the possibility that, under circumstances of a certain naiveté and inexperience in a field as murky as crypto, she might have let herself go along with what she might have perceived as temporary  and 'bad' expedient means. But to believe this person ever intended to purposely and maliciously scam people our of their money or be privy to a fraud is, for me, completely out of the question". I was wrong in the 'privy to fraud' part, but I would still stick to everything else I said.
Quote:
A human mind is a delusion generator, not a window onto truth. The heart of rationality is a single question: 'Do I believe this because it is true, or because I am emotionally attached to believing it?
Eliezer Yudkowsky

got lost in remembering being a full-time forum kid in the mid-to-late 2000's. specifically getting into the "gfx" scene, to make sigs and similar things. back then, you could learn pretty much everything there was to know about photoshop (and GIMP) from 10,000 pixel long tutorials that people would host on deviantart. thinking about reading and making those goofy things makes me pretty nostalgic, as do the terms "grunge brush" and "smudging".
on a lot of the forums i frequented, there'd be a "sig of the week" thread pinned. they'd give you a certain topic, style, or cutout/"render" and the board would have a blind vote at the end to decide the winner. the desire to win those little things made a lot of us into pretty accomplished graphic artists, especially for the time.
each place would have their standout members, and all the less experienced folks would often try to copy their styles. the one that inspired me to take up learning went under the handle fenix. she had these dreamier and saturated, almost ethereal techniques that everyone fawned over, at a time when the popular style was harsher and rougher and covered with grunge brushes. i remember she was the first person most of us had seen that could put a moving gif inside of a static sig and it blew our minds.
i got so frustrated that i couldn't make anything as cool as fenix did. it's funny to me now, because i could render something like it in 4k these days without breaking a sweat. (any requests?)
if you were really hot shit, you'd go to the planetrenders forums. on my end of the web, that was basically the nexus where all the gfx nerds would coalesce and host their resources. renderers/cutout artists, vector creators, c4d and apophysis gurus… and of course, all the gfx artists who would gobble all that in and spit out some pretty swanky web graphics - everything from complete forum layouts to fan-fiction "covers" to friggin' gaia online roleplay thread images. having a dedicated "shop" thread where people could come in and have you make graphics for free was the norm, and actually getting requests on the regular was the sign you weren't a novice anymore.
entering the "sig of the week" contest on their boards was like entering the olympics for photoshopping anime and video game characters. i entered a few times, but just wasn't good enough yet.
eventually, the forum culture itself started to die. lot of people lost touch because of that, thanks a lot to centralized social media. places where you'd hang out with the same people for hours every day, probably for years, were suddenly and rapidly becoming barren. sure, there are still plenty of forums that were big enough to technically survive until now, but the culture is largely gone. what was once a thick forest with immense biodiversity is now a grassy plain, with a few old oaks still standing.
i remember being a young teen and thinking, "yeah, one day i'm gonna be one of the cool veteran users - y'know, the kind of guy who gets a lot of private messages and maybe earns a super moderator position."
then the years go by and suddenly the social part of my morning browsing regimen has become a scroll through facebook, wading through the latest lead-brained boomer misinfo and the face-tuned photos of people i grew up with who still haven't got the memo that high school was a decade ago.
well… i still make my coffee the same, at least.

Tony Robbins Obtains Genuine About Success In Life As Well As Wellness
To make certain people purchase that rubbish, he invests extravagantly on advertising and marketing, fooling others right into thinking that he is legit. I still regret my acquisition of his book and the $5,000 ticket to his workshop. I would have been far better off if I had not wasted my money on Tony's rubbish. It's not since he is an expert or an idea leader. It deals with topics, such as wellness and energy, conquering worries, convincing communication, and also enhancing individual connections. Although the book was a bestseller in America, its creativity was challenged. In June 2016, CNN reported that 30 fire stroll individuals in Dallas, Texas, suffered small burns. Others were supposedly wounded at a 2012 occasion in San Jose, Calif., yet the varieties of the targets as well as extent of the burns have actually consistently been brought into question by physician present. The 2nd issue with his quote concerning an evaluator's worth viewpoints-- "their strategy to market value is various" than a real estate agent. Possibly you're going after that economic liberty we spoke about earlier-- on your own or for someone else. Dean utilized the image of a lighthouse to explain it to me. A lighthouse is a "beacon of light," to use his expression, that reveals boats where to go at night. Dean claims our objectives are just like that sign. We need to imagine them like a light on a coast just a little far away from us. And also when we begin to obtain near it, we move the light simply a little additional away. Despite The Fact That Dean Graziosi is a multi-millionaire today, that's not the way he started. He was an inadequate youngster, raised by a single mother, who functioned her tail off at two work to earn a scant $90 a week. Dean wore pre-owned clothes and also sustained too much teasing growing up. This was motivation to better his life, as well as when he did, he became even more motivated to alter others' lives. Thanks Dean, Honestly I had never become aware of you before Task Next. I understood of Tony Robbins and liked his videos as well as support.
