i need a fic of soap bringing ghost home to his family for the holidays. his family’s always disapproved of everything; being queer, being in the military, being with ghost and it’s all over not a great time but they’re trying to pretend for the sake of the holiday. they get into it after dinner one night though and for once soap isn’t backing down, not when it’s ghost they’re attacking, when the power suddenly goes out. soap moves just in time for a shot to come through the window and he orders his family to get down
graves and what’s left of shadow company followed them to glasgow; it’s the first time they’ve been away from the 141 and they think it’ll be their best chance to take them out. johnny and simon are left behind as they become soap and ghost and soap’s childhood home becomes a battleground, his hysterical family who still think he can’t be that good of a soldier now civilians that he has to protect and get out in one piece

Can I just talk about how much I love the wordplay of “Suburban Legends”???
The way that an urban legend is a story that’s been passed around so far and wide and often that it’s accepted as true (folklore, if you will) or at least believable or exciting enough to keep passing on from campfire to campfire.
And then in this song it’s suburban legends because the story’s been papered over, it’s become a cliche, a poor replica of the real thing. The (cool) urban legend of this hot, epic romance for the ages everyone would talk about forever has been replaced by the (all too familiar, devoid of authenticity) suburban legend of being toyed with and losing herself in a relationship that once again leads to heartache because they can’t be genuine with each other about what they actually want. It’s not a cool story; it’s pedestrian, it’s another blip in the radar of their young lives (just like the suburbs are the epitome of boring in pop culture, cookie-cutter and bland and forgettable and soulless, compared to the magic of the city where anything could happen and everyone wants to be in). It’s not an epic love story for the ages, they won’t be spoken of far and wide, they’re on the periphery of the real thing but never quite making it.
Her mind 🤌

Corentin ref sheet!
Translation notes:
The first part (with blond Corentin) and the second part (with dark-haired Corentin) had really similar text with just a few small wording differences. I tried to catch the differences where I could, but I still feel like I might have missed a few connotative nuances.
"Uncle-like figure" was literally translated as "uncle"--I'm guessing they just meant it in a sort of metaphorical sense, so I put "uncle-like figure." Something like "older man" or "moderately-aged man" might have been a more natural English translation.
I'm still not 100% sure what they're saying with the note on the cloak's symbol. From context, I think the choice that the writer is referring to is using the Ministry symbol vs. the Hyzante national symbol, but the wording makes it sound like they're discussing a choice between the Ministry symbol vs. any symbol that will show up on the smaller pixel sprites. I feel like I might have misunderstood something there, but I couldn't figure out exactly what it was.
More of a fun fact, but "Hyzante" was sometimes translated over as "High Sand"--the wordplay hadn't occurred to me before, so it was kinda interesting!

I've had a killer cold the past couple days and I'm in the nice cozy stage between total nyquil coma and actually feeling better so I got an emulator set up for tactics ogre! I'm going in without much foreknowledge (other than reading Cerya's wiki page <3) so mostly I'm just nodding along excitedly as new stuff comes up.
So far it opens up with these tarot cards:
Which I've played through three times (technical difficulties) and I THINK got slightly different choices both times? But. still a little bit in a nyquil coma so. I read Cerya is recruitable in the chaos/neutral route, so I aimed for chaos with the choices (not sure if that's how it works).
And I also just think the opening's sick as heck. The ost SLAPS, and despite the limitations of pixel art the cutscenes have some cool cinematography stuff going on. I'm watching a guy riding on his little pixel horse and crying about it a little.
Also loving the chapter name. Cannot beat the vibes
ALSO also I am delighted to no end that the very first introduction to Denam + crew is them planning to murder this guy who's coming into town. In Fire Emblem this tutorial chapter would usually be something like "agh! bandits/monsters came out from nowhere!!!! what should we do??" but here it's just like "we want to start a war. killing this guy will start a war. let's go 🥁" Can't argue with that!!
And...... jk! Battle ended after one turn because this Lanselot is not the Lanselot I actually wanted to kill, but instead a foreign knight by the same name (theoretically. I'm side-eying him). Instead we're off to kill some other people in a different castle. (And thus disappoint Denam's sister, who's cool. She's got Celica vibes)
