What tag should I use?

Will you be doing anything on Twitter/other social media?

We considered it! However, as other social media sites have proven unreliable (especially lately), we'll be hosting the event only on Tumblr. However, you're welcome to post your work wherever you like!

Can I do _ for the event?

Yes. Yep. Seriously, so long as it focuses on Perc'ahlia (and is appropriately tagged to avoid spoiling people), you can do it. Cosplay, inspired recipes, beadwork, podfic, go wild! Well, with the caveat that no hateful content will be permitted - don't use a joyous event to rain on someone else's parade or promote hatespeech, alright?

Is NSFW content allowed?

Given the ship in question and just how canonically horny they are for eachother - yes! However, we request that you tag this content as #nsfw and use the appropriate content filter on it. If posting in the Discord server, keep it to the 18+ chat. Be mindful of potential minors in fandom space + people browsing content in public.

I want to participate but haven't watched Campaign 1!

We welcome fans of The Legend of Vox Machina with open arms. As a result, it's requested that campaign fans do their best to avoid spoiling show fans for anything beyond what Season 2 has shown (Umbrasyl's defeat). That means late Campaign 1, the oneshots and any mention of them in other campaigns should be tagged as #cr1 spoilers (using just this tag for simplicity). Show fans, if you want to remain unspoiled, I recommend you block this on Tumblr and mute spoilery channels in the server.

Is there an AO3 collection for the fanfics?

One can definitely be set up closer to the start date!

Does my submission have to fit one of the prompts?

That would be ideal, yes! Anything freeform should be posted on Day 7 for Free/Random prompts. But fitting the prompt can be very loose - maybe you just use the word as a motif, or you take it in an entirely unexpected direction. We want to encourage creativity and fun more than anything else.

I don't know what to do for the Free/Random day!

How did you choose the prompts?

Prompts were chosen over a day or two while talking with friends - they were intended to be open-ended enough to allow flexibility while also touching on key elements of the ship! Some obvious ones (ex: courage, heart, that sort of thing) were left out so that, hopefully, they could be included next year. If there's enough interest, future prompts could be chosen via fan poll.

Will this be an annual event?

We sure hope so! Hence optimistically keeping back some prompt ideas for the future. Let's see how this goes ;3

Why late September?

On September 29th, 2016, the Critical Role episode 'Passed Through Fire' aired, which features an iconic Perc'ahlia moment (no spoilers for show fans!). Following Burr's poll on which scene is most iconic for the pairing, we decided to have the week celebrate the anniversary of that episode.

So why did you announce this so early?

Because Maggie has been a gremlin about the idea since April. Also, most fans in this space are adults with jobs and responsibilities - allowing more time to create without a rush benefits everyone.

A Discord server?

We have set up a little server for this event on Discord, mostly to hang out with other Perc'ahlia fans and motivate eachother to work on our respective projects. The current link is HERE - let us know if it's not working!

Who is hosting this?

The Merlin Library’s Merlin Finale 10 Year Anniversary Prompt Challenge

October 6 - December 25, 2022 The Merlin Library Discord

The Merlin Library is celebrating the decade anniversary after the Merlin Season 5 finale left behind one of the most memorable television endings and emotionally devastated all of its viewers as it aired on the night before Christmas…ahem. The Merlin Finale 10 Year Anniversary Prompt Challenge is a ‘prompt’ challenge designed to capture elements of each episode as the 5th season celebrates its 10th anniversary since airing. Each week is dedicated to a specific episode until the week of the finale, where the two episodes aired within days of each other.

This fest runs for 12 weeks, starting on October 6th with the original airing date of Arthur’s Bane: Part 1, and ending with Diamond of the Day: Part 2 on December 24th.

All creators are welcome to participate. Content is open to fic, art, edits, gifs, manips, meta, poetry, podfic, and whatever else you can creatively come up with during these 12 weeks.

You do not need to do something for each week, but there will be a special prize for those who do. Participate as much or as little as you want.

You may tag #TML10ANNIVERSARY and your content will be reblogged to our main Tumblr, themerlinlibrary.tumblr.com. If you are submitting to AO3, feel free to add your creations to the TML_10yrfest collection.

HOW DO PROMPTS WORK?

The themes of each week are dedicated to the episode that aired. You can write fix-it fics for each episode, or fanart related to that episode, or use the word prompts or color prompts for whatever you make. The content you make doesn’t have to be specific to that episode or an ‘episode tag’ art/fic necessarily.

The prompts are meant to inspire you, not box your creative muse in. You can interpret the prompts as literally or loosely as you want.

The only prompt requirement is that whatever you create is set in or around the canon era Merlin universe. The fest aims to celebrate the show Merlin and it’s original setting. As great as fusions, fandom crossovers, and modern setting AU content are, this is not the fest for that.

RULES

You may combine this fest with other ongoing challenges (ie: Merlin Bingo, Kinkalot, etc).

Each prompt week opens from the point at which the episode would have aired. However, there won’t be a deadline for when you post a prompt if it’s from an earlier week, and you have until the 25th of December to post. There will also be an amnesty week after the 25th for anyone who couldn’t post their fills in time. We understand it’s a hectic season for most of us. The event will officially end (and the AO3 collection will close) on January 1st, 2023.

In the interest of fairness, all pairings (or none, if you prefer to create gen/platonic works) are welcome.

The last rule is to have fun. Please do not stress if you aren’t inspired for every prompt, and have fun creating!

THE BIG FIND: DAY TWO

Welcome to the second day of our anniversary celebration!

The Big Find is a 10-day long Drarry fic-finding marathon to celebrate the blog’s first anniversary. Below is the Day 2 compilation of lost fics, both old and new, that we’ve been unable to find. Our aim is to get as much attention to these lost fics as possible, to help people finally find their missing fics! Anyone can participate by reblogging, reading through each list, providing additional fic details, and informing us the title, author, or link of a fic, and their respective number in the comment section. 2.1 It’s kinda old and short about FWB Drarry set during one morning in Harry’s bed. I believe Draco caught feelings and as he contemplated this Harry walked in the bedroom levitating breakfast for Draco. Draco asked what’s the occasion, and Harry said it’s the 1 year anniv since they first had sex. It was basically some tooth-rotting fluff about them officially getting together. (original post)

2.2 it has Draco, Hermione, Ron, and Harry but the main scene is basically just Draco and Harry in the Room of Requirement. Premise is that Harry had been using magic to glamour himself to cover up the signs or the Dursley’s abuse FOREVER so no one has actually seen what he looks like. Somehow I think Ron and Hermione convince Harry to let someone in so he decides to show Draco who he’s dating what he actually looks like and Draco is so shocked/aghast Harry thinks he’s disgusted and one of them (though i don’t remember who) runs away back to the dorm and Harry is deeply upset. I believe it’s relatively short (2-10k?) and i feel like it’s 2-3 chapters or parts but could be wrong. It’s probably AO3 but slight possibility it was FFN (HIGHLY unlikely tho). If it is AO3 then unfortunately it’s not tagged for any of the things i listed. (original post)

2.3 ao3, 8th year, dated before 2019 for sure. Draco was trying to repay his life debt to Harry by technically putting himself at his service and will, so Harry had control over him. I don’t recall if it was part of the life debt magic or a curse, but Draco didn’t have much free will and it freaked Harry out! (original post)

2.4 Harry was Snape’s apprentice and I have a feeling Snape was already dead and kinda existed as a portrait. Harry and Draco was working on some new lycanthropy potion (stronger than one Snape was making for Remus). I suppose Draco was a apprentice too. I have a feeling Remus was alive in this fic, but maybe it was for Bill. But it definitely was a quest to help someone in particular, or maybe in memoriam. also have a feeling that there was some interaction between Harry and little Teddy. I think I read it on ao3, but I’m not sure. There’s also a slight chance I actually read it in Russian, but then it probably was translated from English. (original post)

2.5 Very long fic where Draco I think is training to be/is a mediwizard. I think Harry is an auror consulting with him on a case involving magical drugs? And there’s some extensive b-plot involving Harry and Narcissa talking about her purebred, prize-winning crups? And there was a sequel, and they’d been podficced, I think by someone English? The fic I’m searching for had Narcissa Malfoy in it as a secondary character extensively, like, multiple instances of Harry and her having to sit and have tea and “politely” discuss her interest in pedigreed crup breeding. Another thing that stuck out at the time was how often the author described Draco as being/acting “warm” with zero actual actions that could be described as such (it was my only pet peeve about the fic, author did it so much I counted the number of times they did it; we were told Draco acted/spoke with “warmth” when he only ever acted like a cold-ass bitch well over 400 separate times over the course of the fic and its sequel). It might have been posted on ff.net, but I read it on LJ or a different hp-only archive years ago, possibly before ao3 even existed. (original post)

FOUND! 2.6 During the war, Draco had to Occlude constantly, and you can’t really do that without developing mental issues, so after the war he has a habit of dissociating, and he goes to therapy for it and meets Harry. (original post)

2.7 ao3 (possibly lj, though not as likely), multiple chapters. Canon rewrite of sorts. H&D get together and Ron and Hermione know. Ron is actually a good and supportive friend. Hermione is homophobic due to her muggle roots and she keeps trying to get Harry to date Ginny. I remember that Ron distracts her at some point while the trio are going back to the common room so that Harry could sneak off to meet with Draco. And at some point Ron gets fed up with Hermione interfering (I think she walked in on them cuddling on a sofa, tho I’m not 100% sure). He goes off on her and tells her something like she’s not always right and things in the wizarding world are different than in the muggle world and gay couples are accepted cause the wizarding world didn’t practice christianity. 2.11 i cant remember if it was on ao3 or wattpad. it was titled “home” and the first sentence was something like: “the first time the stranger appeared at the top of the street, thunder rolled and lightning crashed.” the plot: harry disappeared after the final battle, and draco finds him in a muggle village. draco updates harry on the magical world, and romione. harry’s been in love with draco so he sends a letter and draco comes and kisses harry. 2.12 I read it on ao3 a long time ago. it was a one shot but I’m not sure. mermaids/sirens are a myth and none really believes they exist. Draco is one, Harry and he fell and love. One day Harry disappeared and no one could find him. I remember this as a scene with Ron, where he was expecting his second? child with Hermione and was wishing Harry could be with them when he spots a baby mermaid/sirens and runs to catch it/attack it now that they are considered monsters? Or something like that. Anyways, it turns out that baby is Harry and Draco’s, Harry stops Ron with Draco behind him. Ron is obviously perplex and Harry explains that he left everything for Draco and their love, he is a mermaid/siren now too. They promise to maybe see each other again and tada! (original post)

Oh wow, another one! I guess I'll just have to do five more of these, thankfully I have enough for that. 😅

First off, I guess we have:

I have not touched this fic in a hot minute, but this is technically my first DPxDC fic? I just passed its one year anniversary as well, but I haven't updated it in months now. There is a lot more I want to do for this story, but it's just so long that I really have to have to time and schedule to work it all out. Maybe when LL's Ascent is over I can pull through with it. And maybe Off With [the Demon's] Head. And maybe bloodlines and maybe- well, you get the idea. XD

This one took a little while longer to gain traction from what I've seen, but I am really proud about how I whipped this out so quickly for the event. I had been between ideas at the time, and I just needed something to get me into gear since the DP/DC Crossover Week was the first time I'd ever done a prompt week. But this was my first work of that event, so it holds a special place in my heart.

I know it's not the most popular fic from me but I am really excited for what this fic will bring and what I plan on doing with it. Horror as a genre is very fun and interesting to play with, but there are so many visual horror elements that don't always come across the same way on printed word as it might as onscreen. So it's an intricate process to try and incorporate those elements in a way that readers can still feel the fear and tension even when they can't see it as clearly as through a movie.

I wrote this fic in like... 10 hours I think? So much work, holy cow. But I do really love the Danny x Cass relationship so it was a great opportunity to share more of it with the world. I wanted to include Cass' canonical struggle with illiteracy and being essentially mute from a young age, and I am glad I could make it work in a relationship when communication is so important.

So this is the first sapphic relationship I have ever written. Like, fully blown sapphic relationship. weekend wonders technically includes a sapphic relationship as well, but I haven't written enough of that fic to really explore it. It's such a shame that f/f fics don't do well though, because they are a lot of fun to explore. And I did get to include my girl Cass in this one, so it was a good experience for my first full-blown fic.

anyone else miss the days when the check please fandom was active? i mean... i don't miss the racism i had to see every second of my life, but i do miss writing fic for the boys to combat that racism. and not hating canon!dex. i miss that too.

5. do you respond to comments, why or why not?

listen, why did ao3 make it so that author comments count towards the comment total? I always used to think it was cheating by artificially inflating your own comments now and I can't start now because how will i compare my fic if some of them have double comment counts? i know there are comment threads in statistics but consider - i don't care.

anyway i feel bad because i do feel as if more people would engage with me if i did respond but alas. maths brain won't shut up.

6. what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

the only fic i've written with a sad ending is Goodbye (nurseydex) where Dex confesses to Nursey and gets rejected (rip). It was a prequel to another fic i was writing where they met 5 years after college and managed to get together but i... never wrote the follow up (which i started writing first)

7. do you write crossovers? if so, what’s the craziest one you’ve written?

i write crossovers in that they are inspired by other media but not that characters from both media are present. I have 2 chapters of Checks, Chirps & Cellys (zukki set in the check please universe) up (and yes I am working on chapter three for the anniversary) and I have a Haikyuu x Cherry Magic crossover (kuroken!) ready to go up as soon as I have a free week to post.

8. have you ever received hate on a fic?

yeah so in New York at Christmastime someone told me that it was "abuse" for Nursey's sister to threaten to leave Dex on the side of the road if he was mean to Nursey when the Nurse siblings offered to take Dex home for Christmas since he didn't wanna go to his own family (even though he had been a dick to nursey previously, as per canon). This person left me this comment on CHRISTMAS DAY which makes it better.

also it's not hate but i get a lot of "wow i love this fic which is weird because bi zuko seems so wrong!" which isn't hate but i do take it as hate <3. bi zuko rights but more than that just leave people alone if they ship something you don't. you don't need to tell them you don't ship their ships or disagree with their headcanons.

also also this wasn't on a fic but do y'all remember when the parse stan told me I was drinking the "cool-aid"? Truly my favourite fandom interaction.

9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?

i have! Because I love Adrien too (Alya & Adrien) was translated into Russian! I also have two fics that have been podficced! It's Chow Time!! (Chowder-centric) and Adam J. Birkholtz and the case of the missing clothes (links to translations and podfics at the end of the work)

12. have you ever co-written a fic before?

Anne and I worked together on 2gether 4ever (sarawatine).

13. what’s your all-time fave ship?

14. what’s a fic you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

okay so the 5+1 fic The long way home (zukki) won't get finished. I don't think I'll ever go back but I loved it so much. It was such a fun concept. It was basically sokka and suki being like "okay can we love you know?" and zuko being like "no! you can't! honour!" and sokka and suki being like "okay! how about now?"

i still want to work on Checks, Chirps & Cellys (zukki) and am trying my best to get chapter three chugging along but i think if we're being realistic... its been eleven months since chapter one and i'm only just starting on chapter three. i don't think we're gonna get to the end on this one gang (unless y'all wanna hang around until 2024)

15. what are your writing strengths?

i don't know what i'm doing i just write a bunch of words and sometimes they're good.

16. what are your writing weaknesses?

i don't know what i'm doing i just write a bunch of words and sometimes they're not good.

17. what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages on a fic?

i think it can be confusing to understand but i do occasionally throw in some better known words into my fic.

18. what was the first fandom you ever wrote for?

if we're counting unpublished, then pirates of the caribbean self-insert when i was ten. the first fandom i actually count is Miraculous Ladybug.

19. what is your favorite fic ever written?

I can't pick a favourite from my own fics so I'm interpreting this as my favourite fic by someone else and it is without a doubt A Mile Away by @dameferre. I remember reading it, a beacon of light in the messy racism that was the nurseydex fandom and just... everything felt right in the world for once.

11/25/20: I have been talking to a lot of people about The Good Ship Twylexis, and when @earnmysong asked me for some fic recs, I could not resist! Below are some of my favorites, organized by length. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list, and is simply composed of some of the ones I’ve read. I hope you check them out!

10/31/21: Nearly a year later, the fandom has grown by leaps and bounds! I've been able to add many excellent Twylexis fics to the below list. I tried to keep these recs focused on fics in which they are either the only ship or a substantial part of the narrative, so while there are many fics nowadays that have Twylexis as a side pairing, those will not be listed below. 1. The More You Know, M, 72380

I was incepted to write this fic when I said to Distractivate, “I should write an enemies to lovers Trivia AU,” and before I knew it...I was writing a trivia AU. I started the doc January 2. So. Wow. And my apologies, I couldn’t make them enemies because I am soft, soft, soft, and frankly, so are they. This fic fought me a lot. I was in a ton of physical pain because of a nerve problem, the pandemic started, blah blah blah...I wrote some of my favorite things. I could not have done it without Distractivate and @vivianblakesunrisebay and @this-is-not-nothing and probably scores of other people listening to me whine and helping me with ideas. But also thank you Noah Reid for taking a picture holding a fish and then later eating a burrito on a roadside with gusto because without those, Musician! Patrick would never have visited that taco stand, or needed to do origami. The response was OVERWHELMING and I may never see it again but I really truly appreciate every comment and every kudo and every rec anyone ever made. That story is and was a labor of love and I miss playing trivia as much as I miss bringing that world to life. And I was lucky enough to be gifted a podfic as well.

2. This Must Be The Place, E, 11508

So. The entire time I was writing TMYK, I had a playlist of eighties and nineties songs that I felt like Patrick was into and loved. There were also more recent songs but This Must Be the Place and Handle With Care were, like, the Pinnacle of the love story I was writing. And I had a place in TMYK where Patrick and the Senior Center (the SC Squared) would perform a medley for David a la Open Mic. But it ruined the momentum of my ending. SO. I cut it. And let’s be real, I had a lot of trouble writing it. So. I CUT IT. Flash forward to me being stuck on a different WIP (still stuck) and getting a prompt from TINN about Patrick performing for the one year anniversary of the Art House. WELL. The coda was born and I got to go back to the world I loved and use that origami for (spoiler alert).

3. Five Ways to Ruin a First Date, T, 6830

I have fest fears so I didn’t think I was going to participate in Frozen Over this year. But at 2:00 am a week before the deadline, I decided that an only one sled fic was the trope for me. I don’t know if I was right haha. BUT! Once again I was aided and abetted by the best friends and betas a girl could have and me, notoriously slow writing me, got it done. Not to toot my own horn but I am pretty happy with Patrick’s list of dates. Which I may make a series someday because I could make these idiots go on cozy first dates for the rest of time. And I guess I could let them date past that too. Also, no matter what, these two want to kiss.

4. I Think We’re Alone Now, T, 3306

I have a real tendency to make a joke become a reality. I co-wrote this fic with the delightful @rockinhamburger and it is criminally under seen. Yes, it is dialogue-only. Yes, it is a play off of Buffy. Yes, there is banter and kissing and canon. I wrote some of my best jokes for this fic and Rockinhamburger killed it with backstory and tenderness. Go and read this. You will not be disappointed.

5. I am working on two WIPS currently and brainstorming a couple joint ventures with some friends so hopefully 2021 brings more of David and Patrick into our world. I am hoping to have a new multi chapter sickfic posted in January and what I call Air!Pat will be out...soon enough 😂 Please tell Patrick to cooperate; he is kind of stubborn.
