What's your favorite animal and why? (you can list more than one if you want!)

Hi, my dear mutual and thank you very much for the ask!)

This is an extremely hard ask, as I love all animals. And if I don't yet, I will learn to if given the opportunity to interact with them long enough)

Lemme tell you, if you bring in even one madagascar cockroach to a class of biology students, they will be in love with it in less than a minute and will be asking to hold one, even if they were squamish about bugs their entire lives. Nature is incredible in all it's beautiful, extreme and will-make-any-eldrich-horror-blush-in-shame ways and it's really, really fascinating. So yeah, this is hard to decide.

I've been living with dogs for most of my life, so I obviously love them) Am a horsegirl for sure, even if the opportunities for riding are not common at all, and my technique is that of a potato sack, but I'm still somehow pretty confident in the saddle. I'd love to have a pet lizard one day. Find myself mesmerized by the arowana in the local fish pet store each time we go there.

I've been blessed and extremely lucky to have an opportunity to work at a bat rescue center, and I can confidently say bats are amazing and adorable little hellspawns))) They love screaming and biting, tumblr should be ALL over them actually

Saw a video about geladas once, and they are like. Peak character design. Why isn't there more gelada content on the internet about them??? No idea but treat yourself to any gelada video.

That said, obviously my favourite animal will be my best girl Fina xD

If I had to pick favourites besides her...(seriously, this is so hard, my answer will change in like the next minute if you send the ask again)... I've been a little (not a little) obsessed with moose. They are character design peak too, their horn crowns are incredible, I love their big nose, short tail and how tall and elegant they are on those long legs. Simply beautiful)

Every melolontha (basically any flying beetle with wing covers) I will be glued to, and just big beetles in general, they can be so beautiful.

Bats, of course. Can't ever go wrong with bats. Incredible, adorable, screeching little critters. Honestly the 'uglier' they seem the more I love them xD They are not ugly at all, and are really fascinating.

Lizards. Blue-tongued skins especially. Tegu's are also amazing.

I love bears a lot. The duality of an extremely adaptive and versatile predator vs the lazy and low effort goofes they can be gets to me) Also the Brother Bear movie. Destroyed me as a kid, loved it.

And geladas. Geladas are great. Peak character design. We really need more geladas.

I have no innate sense of time and I feel wretched and exhausted regardless of when I get up and we are currently, for convoluted life reasons, sleeping in the living room, which is close to the front door, which is close to the front yard.

so when my alarm is set to 10:30 AM, but a crow goes CAW CAW CAW until I pull on a shirt and sunhat and stumble outside, I don't know that it's actually 7:42 AM and birds are the fucking devil. I'm just out there, suffering.

21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways

Oh I love all art styles tbh,,,,, I love those sharp chunky ones with the super bright fun colours,, anything with a lot of energy I tend to like tho. And everything else also but that's the first one I thought of. Although I do use bright colours sometimes so Super far from my own I like those floaty kind of watercolour styles with the muted colours which I know is exactly the opposite of what I just said but. I like them <3

I really like your idea of "scrap management" and I'm thinking of trying it myself. So I'm just wondering, do you try to put scraps together that have similar/coordinating colors or patterns, or do you literally just put anything together? I have some "christmas" themed scraps, but not really enough for a quilt or anything, and I think they might look ugly/out of place with my other scraps. Just curious how you go about it.

I kind of do both? I have my initial box of scraps, which is a little plastic shoebox thing where I stick any quilting scraps smaller than like half a fat quarter but larger than 1/2" as I finish projects. Then I kind of have two separate systems. For my original scrap quilt idea, before I learned crumb quilting, I'd take those scraps, iron them, and cut out 3.5" squares, 6.5" squares, and 2.5" wide strips. My finished scrap quilt will alternate between patchwork squares made of two 6" squares and two sets of four 3" squares, and 12" blocks made of six rows of strips. When I have a bunch of the 2.5" strips, I cut up the long pieces so no individual piece is longer than 12.5", sew short ends together at random until I have a long roll of 2.5" wide fabric, then cut it into 12.5" lengths. I mix them up and sew them together pretty much at random (I do try to make sure no identical fabrics end up touching). Once I've cut out the more uniform sizes, I sort the smaller scraps that are left by color into smaller boxes. When I feel like crumb quilting, I either pick a few colors I want to work with or decide I want to work at random. If I've picked a color palette, I'll pull a bunch of pieces out in that color spread and iron them, then start sewing. If I decide to make it at random, I'll iron a bunch of scraps I like the look of together, then start sewing them together in pairs and go from there. Oh wait I forgot one scrap thing: I have some very cartoony halloween fabric from a scrap pack I got, and I treat that a little differently. I use that for kennel quilts I make for donation to animal shelters. I don't really like the fabric, and it doesn't match or even clash interestingly with the rest of my fabrics, so it is in its own box and when I have scraps of batting too small for a quilt and scraps of backing fabric leftover from a quilt in a color or pattern I don't really want to use and/or have too much of, I make some kennel quilts. If I had christmas scrap fabric it'd probably be kennel quilt fabric for me

There are many reasons I find Warriors tedious to read and I think one of the biggest one is that if you take a single look at Warriors cats from a biological perspective it completely falls apart and it makes it very hard for me to suspend my disbelief.

The cats in it are not wildcats (Felis silvestris) they're house cats (Felis catus). They're by their very nature domesticated. In fact they domesticated themselves. House cats don't belong in nature, they belong in human settlements and houses. In this context, Warriors has a narrative and lore that stands on very shaky legs if it stands on any legs at all.

"Our ancestors, the tigers leopards and lions-" no, your ancestors were African wildcats (Felis silvestris lybica). You might be a part of the same family (Felidae), but that only makes you a very distant cousing of big cats.

"We live in nature like our ancestors did" your ancestors lived in very different circumstances. Your species chose to domesticate themselves and ended up filling a different biological niche than their ancestors. You're an invasive species who have no place in the forest.

"A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet" your ancestors chose to live with humans because they provided them with clean homes, food and affection instead of forcing themselves to carry on dealing with starvation, fox, badger and stray dog attacks and various deadly illnesses humans can treat within minutes more effectively than you ever could in weeks.

When viewed like this it becomes very obvious that the clans are nothing more than an at best misguided and at worst actively malicious group who are adamant on dying and making their families die for reasons that are completely made up.

And I'm not the kind of person who criticizes the Erins doing cat genetics wrong AND I know that they famously stated that to them the cats of the books are small furry humans. But that said, the xenofiction genre is by design meant to provide a non-human perspective to tell stories unique to non-humans. By botching the very core of it, which in this case is making the clans of cats act like humans 90% of the time robs the series of any sort of point in my eyes.

And by extension for me it robs every Warriors OC story turned into it's unique property of intent. Because you can make the most genetically accurate families, well written relationships, and well made community hierarchies and you can strip all of it from racism, exoticism and ableism, but at the end of the day the cats still have no reason to live in these closed off communities in unfavorable circumstances that could be avoided if they all just went home to their owners instead of having perpetual "fuck you mom humans" teenage angst phases for the rest of their lives.

#and believe me I tried to make my own warriors but better AU #but I quickly realized that it just will not work if they remain cats #corvids coyotes wolves #or any type of animals that live in big groups like primates could work better in a system like this than cats #and btw I'm not saying that you shouldn't like Warriors #I was just expressing an onion #context: I've never read Warriors as a kid I started reading it a couple of months ago out of curiosity #and I got as far as the end of book 1 of AVoS #I'm really tired of suspending my disbelief these books are really mid at best and it's mindnumbing for me tbh #I still am curious about the rest up until ASC but I'll decide whether to stop reading and learn it from spoilers #or just take a break
