OC Question time if you would like one :D For whoever you'd like to chat about: What is one aspect of their current job/role that they did not anticipate when they first started? Do they resent that it has come up or do they just sort of roll with it? -uselessidiotsquad-
All righty, sounds good, let’s go! Thanks for the ask @uselessidiotsquad! :D
Random thing picker has chosen the following (very vague Icebrood spoilers in Lifa’s answer at the end):
Rel: He never anticipated the scale of what his job became. Healing, dealing with all sorts of patients, even fighting when necessary? Sure. Being a leader as well? Not really. But he makes it work, and though it’s never his favorite role to hold, he does a decent job.
Tanza: The way she’s looked at by people when they first learn and understand exactly what her “job” is (specifically the being-connected-to-the-mostly-dead-Owl-Spirit part). They knew they’d make a legend for themself, but not exactly this way, and they’re slightly uncomfortable with the way some people look to them for answers (and angry at the way some people call them a liar). But she deals with it; there’s no other “job” she’d rather have.
Kerra: That she’d grow into it as much as she has. She’s gone through so many steps with regards to being Commander. First, it was her duty and what she was meant to do. Then, it was an obligation she’d committed to and would return to for the sake of the world. And then somewhere along the line, it became...part of her, in a way, if that makes any sense at all. She’s at a point now where she would like to retire (or at least to spend more time with her family), but she is the Commander now. It’s a title and a role that she believes she fits, and even when she steps down, eventually, it’ll have shaped her in a way that only things you accept fully can do. I feel like this explanation is weird, but...yeah. From duty/destiny to obligation to job to mantle, or something like that.
Pliarr: That he’d be good at it. It sounds a bit silly in some ways--he’s a Whispers agent, who also happens to be a very powerful mesmer and spent a decent amount of his childhood learning what secrets to tell who and keeping his sister safe. It seems like it’d be the perfect job for him, skill-set-wise, and it is, but he was very scared of using his magic for a long time because he blames himself for what happened to his sister. But he finds that he’s a good agent both with and without mesmer magic, which surprises him and boosts his confidence.
Lifa: That it would be easy (at least at first). There’s a peculiar and disturbing sort of peace in blindly following, in believing so much in an ideology that you’ll do anything for it. So “easy” might not quite be the right word here, but for her, it gives her tunnel vision, and she welcomes it. She doesn’t have to focus on all of her very complicated feelings about the world and her former friends and her former partner, and she can instead just channel them into her magic and throw it wherever Bangar (and, eventually, Ryland) tells her to. (No, this is not even remotely healthy; yes, she does kill a lot of people because of this mentality; and, no, this does not end well.)

so I’m tryna get rid of A Migraine (I cranked my screen brightness up from like, zero, a couple times checking colors like Wow! That’s Suddenly So Different!) but here’s some very specific titled playlists I’ve been vibing to while writing!
you're the hero waltzing with the villain, realizing they were right all along for when you just really wanna hear a whole bunch of folks going absolutely apeshit on instruments but it’s like, coordinated A playlist for a 19th century villain plotting their revenge some softer vibes, some folks going HOO HEEE HOOO AUUUGH but it’s in italian or german or something, it sounds very nice
since you're looking I'll put on a show modern music with girlboss vibes (not sure what a girlboss is tbh) but with some peppy pop to it but she’ll also kill you
a dark academia playlist for reading the classics much piano (good) and quite chill if you don’t want to suddenly feel the urge to take over your local Pizza Hut in a loincloth
pov: you're the villain with a tragic backstory very good stuff in here, modern, when you need to write something that’s kinda sweet but also sad and maybe there’s a knife? like a small to moderate knife maybe
you plan to assassinate the lover who betrayed you just started listening to this one but so far big girlboss (what is that??) bosswife (???) vibes but she has titanium heels on her stilettoes and they’re sharpened to a point Oldies music playing in another room and it's raining (no thunders , fireplace) for when you just need to unwind and relax <3 this one is one of my favorites but the channel has all sorts depending on what kind of chill zone you’re looking for and it’s wonderful other general recs without Oddly Specific Titles and Individuals!   Heilung | LIFA there’s dirty men with shields and a lady wearing antlers do I need to even Say anything (yes I posted this before)
The Heavy Horses - Murder Ballads & Other Love Songs just casually strumming a guitar and singing about accidentally shooting his new wife sometimes SYML - Mr Sandman yes they changed the pronouns but BITE ME I LIKE IT. honestly just listen to it and shhhhhhhush. Jacob Lee - Demons this is weirdly enough my go-to song when writing smthn Spicy I'll Take Care Of You · Mark Lanegan this was recommended to me and hot damn these VIBES (I also can’t remember the name I just remembered a second ago, it do be like that) Shakey Graves - Roll the Bones this guy is weirdly sweaty but I dig it Nanci Griffith - This Old Town this was on one of two albums that played continuously, twelve hours a day, for three straight days during a bathroom remodel, for some reason I remember this one and another one (awful) the most Living Room Songs || Ólafur Arnalds what I write to when I’m writing something Painfully Tragic, these songs are very sad vibe :( Kany García, Residente - Banana Papaya no I don’t know what’s going on, kind of NSFW, gay, this is part of my Rook Island playlist

@@@@ + 4 for those four ppl uwu
For every @ I get, I have to tag someone I love/look up to! ** accepting
I’m gonna make this the OC special just for u Kay.
@banded-muses
Worldbuilding and backstory off the charts.
Lovable, complex muses. Not afraid to make an older, female OC.
Always full of ideas and scenes and chatting with you about them is so fun. You love your characters, you love other people’s characters, and it makes it so easy to just write thread after thread and develop things together across the whole spectrum of genres.
The imagery you put into replies is astounding and beautiful. Never too little and never too much. Always appropriate to the situation and nearly makes some parts feel like poetry. It adds this extra layer of emotion I’m still trying to reach without having to go full metaphor.
@fumusdamnatorum
YOUR PROSE IS SO GOOD. Especially giving a body language and/or metaphorical feel for both your character, and his view of the OTHER character. I feel like we’re on similar levels with addressing both these things and it makes it very easy to play off of your narratives.
So many drabbles!!! and that’s a wonderful thing!! I love watching you dive into backstory, getting a better perspective of Silas for it. Seeing him develop even outside of threads. The imagery in them is always super good and clear, too.
Silas is a really rough and star-crossed character and you’re not afraid to play him that way. Your writing always has a jaded vibe to it, and I mean that in a good way. Like that part of his character comes across. I always just want to like, wrap him up in a warm blanket or a hug idk.
Your action scenes are always a treat!!
@thehopefulones / @lifahakondotter / @themagisterlegacies
Your brain works at a speed I could never reach. I don’t know how you churn out such quality writing so fast. or come up with so many ideas all the time. It’s incredible.
Your muses are incredibly varied and yet each narrative has its own feel to it. I also don’t know how you jump between headspaces so very easily.
I know I always talk about metaphor, but let’s talk simile for a moment, Because yours are always incredible. They’re small but crystal clear details that add so much flow and aesthetic and emotion to what a character is doing. It’s such a simple touch sometimes, but you utilize it SO WELL. It’s like you just breathe this beautiful prose into existence so naturally and I can only hope I match at least a little bit.
Jackson is going to be the death of Qrow and Qrow is going to kill Lifa, probably. I think this is me saying I really enjoy our plots and dynamics. You’re not afraid to approach a n y t h i n g and it really challenges me to get out of my comfort zone with writing and pushes the limits for figuring out characterization. I’m sorry that makes me so anxious my replies get slow sometimes. I just want to give you the good Qrow content and equally quality writing. orz
@charmedglass
WHY ARE SO MANY PEOPLE SLEEPING ON WRITING WITH YOU??? YOUR CHRACTERS ARE AMAZING AND YOUR WRITING FLOORS ME!!!
I love plotting with you. It’s so much fun, you have so many good ideas. I love being part of helping your backstories weave together and come to life.
Avros is a babe. This is pure self-indulgence instead of complimenting you, but it is also a nod to your design and story and concept, and bringing him to life. Sweetheart singer boy faunus, tragic backstory but grows up kind, he hits so many of my favorite things. He’s a total babe and our calamitous harmony ship makes my heart so happy.
Your metaphors and ways of describing environment just freaking end me. I always strive to be as good with imagery as you are in our threads.

I just happened to see that you reblogged an angst prompt.
You know what that means <<
"And you believed them?"/ "don't follow me"
If either of them give you inspo! If not no worries, you're always welcome to toss them and use this as a free pass if you find another prompt that does give you writing vibes!
-uselessidiotsquad-
It means angst time! >:D @uselessidiotsquad I finally was able to work on this, so have a thing! I’m apparently in a mood to write stuff about Ari today, haha.
Warnings: none, except maybe pain
The Black Citadel was full of soldiers and legionnaires and centurions, but, to Lifa, it felt utterly empty.
She hugged her arms to her chest, playing her life over and over again in her mind. Did she do something wrong? How could she possibly—how could Ari possibly have missed this?
What had happened to them? To Weylon?
She unsheathed her claws, scoring faint marks into her armor.
“Li? Lifa!” Ari came barreling down the staircase of the Imperator’s Core, grabbing both her front paws as she skidded to a halt. “Li, they won’t listen to me.”
“They won’t listen to you,” Lifa repeated, utterly flat.
“They won’t help us get them back.”
“They won’t…help us.”
Ari’s grip tightened, her eyes bright. “But we can still do it. You and me. We’ll get them back, even if it takes the rest of our lives.”
“You and me?”
“Yeah, Li.”
“You and me?” she said, again.
“Lifa?”
She yanked her paws out of Ari’s. “No. I refuse.”
Ari blinked. A growl rumbled deep in her throat. “You refuse to help me save them?”
“I refuse to follow you.” Lifa’s claws were still out, and they shone in the glaring light of the sun. “You let this happen. You were legionnaire.”
“I did not let this happen. Weylon betrayed us.”
“Isn’t it your job to catch that and stop it before it happens?” Tears threatened to block Lifa’s vision. “You were my friend, and my legionnaire. And now you’re neither. The most important person in the world to me is a traitor, and everyone else I cared about is dead or as good as.”
“Weylon’s choices are not my fault!” Ari roared.
“Who else am I supposed to blame?!”
“Well, him, for one! And the Flame Legion! If you’re determined to blame anyone but him, at least help me kill the ones who put this bullshit in his head!”
Lifa laughed. It was not a nice sound. “Oh, trust me, they are going to die. I’ll make sure of it. But you could rip off my horns and tear out my claws before I’d fight alongside you again.”
“This is not on me!” Ari’s voice broke on the last word, and she stepped toward Lifa. “Stay. Please. We’re a warband of two, at least for now. I need you.”
“Well, I don’t need you,” Lifa spat, knowing even as she said it that she was lying. “And I’m leaving. Don’t follow me.”
She turned tail and raced out of the Core. She expected to hear Ari calling after her, but all she heard was the bustle of the Citadel and the wind blowing past her face.
One particularly torn Ash Legion flag ripped from its pole in the strong breeze, fluttering slowly towards the ground.
