The beginnings of the ragnarok/loki series xover that has decided to take over my brain is below...
---------
The chaos of the battlefield around him dwindled to nothing more than a muted play of distant actions that seemed foreign to him, almost dreamlike; as if he was watching everything happen from far away. He could hear someone scream behind him, the person’s voice so loud that the earth vibrated beneath his bare feet with such frenetic energy that Laurits swore the reverberations shook the very energy that made up his being.
Something sweet and pungent drifted across the barren valley while everything seemed to slow. There was a flash of lightning above that split the grey sky and illuminated the battle around him, the clash of swords and shouts of rage dulled when the lightning gave way to a loud crack of thunder that echoed and rippled through the valley, seeming to shake the mountains that framed the basin.
Laurits turned, his hands bright and burning at his sides, his fingers a deep green from pent up magic he’d yet to unleash. He watched, time seeming to stretch to an infinite amount of seconds before him, as Ran notched an arrow across the valley and aimed. Off to his side, somewhere in the rage of angered shouts and cries of pain, he heard Oscar scream his name. The deep timbre of the other man’s voice was shaky and lilted in concern. Laurits flexed his fingers and raised his hands in warning to Ran. The seidr that he’d worked so painstakingly hard to master interweaved around his fingers and crackled like fireworks.
Laurits was so focused on Ran that he missed when something sharp and agonizing slammed into his side and caused him to crash to the ground in a heap. He gasped, colors swirling across his vision when his head bounced off the rocky ground beneath him. Laurits groaned and blinked, the bright blue of Magne’s otherworldly eyes staring wide and unsure down at him.
“Ma-magne?” He hated how childish his voice sounded, how his brother's name rolled off his tongue in uncertainty. He could see the deep obsidian of Magne’s pupils expanding to eat away at the blue of his brother’s irises and contrasting with the ashen pallor his brother’s skin had taken on, making the cherry red of Magne’s cheeks stand out in worrisome detail.
“I… I couldn’…”
A haggard cough had Laurits reaching up to grasp his brother's shoulders when Magne’s arms buckled. “Magne?”
“I…i saved...you.”
“You’re an idiot.” The affectionate reprimand made Magne smile, his brother’s teeth stained a ruddy color that reminded him of the time he and Magne had eaten one too many cinnamon candies.
Laurits hesitantly tightened his grip on Magne’s shoulders to steady his brother, concern and ice cold fear settled uneasily in his gut as he quietly called Magne’s name once more. When his brother ignored the soft plea, he gently rolled the older boy off him and scooted to his knees. His hands hovered in uncertainty over the mess that made up his brother's side. He winced in sympathy, a section of Magne’s shirt had been burned away, the skin left charred around the edges of an angry looking wound that wept bright red and brown fluid in vigor, saturating the jeans Magne wore and smelling foul.
“I don’t know what to do Magne, Wotan wouldn’t teach me healing magic.” And he’d hated the older man for it. Odin had deemed healing magic to feminine an art, and unworthy of a male learning the finer workings of magic. Laurits now wished he had told Odin to get fucked as he turned his attention from the wound to the blood speckled face of his brother.
“H...hornns.”
Laurits frowned and leaned closer to Mange, “Horns?”
“Fe-feel it.”
“You’re not making any sense.” He shook his head and gripped the lapel of Magne’s jacket until his fingers were white and aching. “Magne, stay with me, yeah?”
He could see Magne fighting against the chilling grip of death. He watched his brother gasp tiny wisps of air while trying and failing to form words before seeming to settle and still; his otherworldly blue eyes fading. Laurits’s eyes burned at the realization that his brother had slipped from this world with little fanfare. “Y-you idiot. You self-sacrificing bumbling idiot.”
Another flash of lightning - orange this time, Laurits noted - sparked above, casting an eerie glow over Magne’s blonde hair and vacant gaze. Laurits closed his eyes; his brother wasn’t supposed to die. They had made a promise to each other that it would be different this time… Ragnarok would not be the death of everything they had worked so hard to achieve and protect. It would not be their end. He and Magne had forbidden it. And, yet... “Please, brother, please…”
Laurits curled around Magne’s chest, his own chest heaving with each heavy breath he took.
This had to be a dream.
Had to be an illusion.
Some sort of spell cast by the Jutuls to distract from the battle.
The air seemed thick and cloying, settling like a heavy blanket around him and creating an unbearable heat that gathered within him at the notion that someone would use such a cruel trick to subdue a godling. Laurits sat back on his haunches, focused on the battle of gods and giants with an odd sort of frozen numbness. His head lolled to the side, attention settling on his Stepmother who had just loosed an arrow and was in the midst of notching another. Laurits slowly stood, his mind and body a million miles away from one another and caught Ran’s attention from across the valley. His hands moved without conscious thought as seidr gathered and swelled around his fingers. He realized how easy it would be to smother the very essence that made up the giantess with the gentlest push of his will. How easy it would be to bring Ran to her knees by burning her precious waters till nothing was left but the cracked silt of the ocean floor and the floundering bodies of the creatures that lived there in their death throes.
His fingers twitched.
“Variant identified.”
The voice barely registered, Laurits was too focused on Ran to notice that someone had stepped up behind him until a hand grabbed his shoulder and forced him to turn. Laurits brought his hand up to defend himself but was stopped when the unknown woman grabbed his arm and jerked it painfully out to the side and twisted, one of her hands coming to rest against the base of his neck.
“On behalf of the Time Variance Authority, I hereby arrest you for crimes against the Sacred Timeline. You’re to come with us, Variant.”
“T-the what?” Laurits hissed as something tight settled around his neck and he was pulled up and shoved into the waiting arms of two men dressed in black armor. “Let go!”
The woman huffed and turned to another person dressed in the same strange getup, “Reset the timeline.”
“Hey!” Laurits shouted when the unknown person the woman had addressed knelt and situated a glowing tube beside the still form of Magne. “Get away from him!”
The woman turned to him with a raised brow and shook her head, dismissing him. “Let’s go!”
“Magne!” Laurits fought against the arms around him, trying and failing to reach his brother as he was pushed and pulled backwards by the men holding him, “Magne!”
He dug his heels into the ground and grunted with effort as he tried to pull away. The men holding him yanked back on him and pulled him through an oddly colored orange doorway. The last thing he saw was a wash of yellow saturating the still form of his brother and Magne melting away to the ground below.
“No!”

I thought it would be fun to share ships I like/support and ones I don't like/support. This is just to get it out of my head.
Ships I like:
Saxa and Isolde: Isolde deserved better and by better I mean Saxa loving her back
Saxa and Gry: Gry also deserves better, I saw the vibes between Saxa and Gry but I'm not sure if I prefer Saxa with Gry or with Isolde, I feel like Saxa and Gry might be more holesome because it would be friends to lovers
Saxa and Magne: makes sense in the mythological sense, but I did not see it coming at all, but now that it is there, I am more than happy about it. I think they compliment each other very well and I'd love to see how it develops.
Laurits and Oscar: Oscar was definitely flirting with Laurits in season one, they would also be the perfect friends to lovers couple, Oscar seems to be very supportive and accepting, only the best for Laurits, Laurits deserves to be loved
Erik and Turid: please get your shit together, you too are perfect, I love the chaotic energy and how they are both completely useless at flirting
Oscar's mum and Ran: it's more of a crack ship but there definitely is something between them and I wouldn't even mind
Wenche and Wotan: Wotan has probably forgotten that they are dating, but they are absolutely dating, power couple
Ships that are alright:
Gry and Fjor: In the beginning I didn't like them together but the more their relationship developed I really wanted to give them a chance, I'd love them being together if Fjor actually becomes a good person and doesn't break Gry's heart again, that girl deserves better, this ship is only there for the straights
Iman and Harry: I don't really care for them, but they are alright
Jens and environment dude (forgot his name): they are alright, but they broke Laurits' heart, minus 10 points
Laurits and Jens: I knew it wouldn't work out and Jens broke Laurits' heart
Magne and Signy: she's cute I guess but it doesn't feel like it's going to be anything serious
Ships I absolutely despise:
Laurits and Fjor: they're not actually siblings but it feels too much like it, Laurits deserves better
Laurits and Magne: what's wrong with some people? I can't believe that this is the most common tag in the ragnarok fanfics on ao3

Can we take a moment to appreciate that part in Ep. 5 where Magne refuses to have dinner because he feels too betrayed by his mother and Erik, so Laurits leaves to bring food to Magne's room to make sure he eats (obvs Magne is gone by that point, and it was a very small moment, but I really love every time we see Laurits be caring - like the supportive hand on Magne's back when ppl approach him after Isolde's death)
Ok. I'm probably going to get way more into this than you intended me to, Anon, because I am desperate for content in this fandom. And by Odin, if I can't find it, I shall make it myself! Besides, I'm an academic. Getting into exhaustive analysis of subtext is the energy I feed on. You've been warned.
[UPDATE AFTER I FINISHED TYPING THIS UP: It has indeed taken up a lot of space. I'm on mobile and unwilling to proofread absolutely anything about this. Enjoy. ✨]
That said, I have many things to comment on this. Mostly because Laurits is my absolute favourite character in the show. Partly because I love reading into things. Also, I've watched the show many, many times now. And I'm going to make that everyone's problem.
1: I agree 100% on everything you've said. There's a loving side to Laurits that is not often seen but it's certainly there. A loving side we only ever see is directed towards Magne (we could argue he's "loving" towards Fjor but I disagree. Whatever he feels towards Fjor Jutul is on an entire different spectrum. Sure, there's lust, but it's not caring, and it's most certainly not loving – not in the way he loves his brother). He does not seem to have any sympathy for his mother either, acting resentful towards her in most, if not all, of their interactions (I'd have to check right now but I'm sure most times he's either teasing as he always is or fairly "neutral" so-to speak. Not how you'd expect a child to behave around his mum? I don't know. What is a healthy familiar relationship? Who knows). So it's safe to assume Magne is the only person he genuinely cares about, no questions asked, no hesitation.
I DON'T KNOW IF THERE ARE MAGNE/LAURITS SHIPPERS OUT THERE BUT IF YOU FIND THIS POST DO NOT FUCKING INTERACT. DO NOT EVEN GO THERE OR I'LL STOMP YOU TO DEATH WITH MY HOOVES. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
2: As much as I love the headcanon that "aw, he went upstairs to check on his brother", I have to be realistic and say this: he wanted a way out of that awkward ass dinner scene Turid had dragged him into. Sure, he could've found another excuse to leave the table, but "checking on Magne" is the easiest way out. And it's very in touch with their dynamic as brothers. It's also very accurate as to how sibling relationships work lol

The face of a man who would sell Turid's soul to Satan for one corn chip.
[ID: Laurits, looking to his mother, side-eyed and with his mouth slightly open in an "are you serious right now?" expression. End ID]
3: I think it's HILARIOUS that he just took that shrimp cocktail. Just that. Come on, Laurits, you know your brother. He could eat an ox (Norse mythology anecdotes? In my meta? It's more likely than you think). It's just SO FUCKING FUNNY that he took that sorry ass excuse of a shrimp cocktail and went to give it to Magne like. Seriously? Brother, do you believe this food will sustain me? For real? Come on...
In conclusion: Laurits cares about Magne and has always been behind the scenes making sure he did not get into (more) trouble. He fucks shit up. That's his job. It's what he does. Alexa play We Are Number One. But when he's not teasing Magne he genuinely works his ass off to tend to him. For example: not mentioning that Magne was the one who injured Nise (Neese. Nice? The crackhead neighbour) resulting in him snitching to his mum. That could've gone a lot worse for Magne if her mum knew about his "outburst". The entire SPEECH he gave as Ran. Etc. etc. etc. Oh. By the way.

Denmark brings the non-modern 80s sound to Rotterdam 2021
youtube
Filler review in between me doing a shit ton of things at the same time and saving two of the writeups I at least wanted to do before Semi 1 or so, plus there’s a Turquoise carpet underway. Lessgooooooo Denmark
ARTIST & ENTRY INFO
Fyr og Flamme is a collective of two men, singer Jesper Groth and instrumentalist Laurits Emanuel. Together they don’t have much history as they formed in the Ben & Tan year 2020, but they have a couple of succesful (and their only prior to Eurovision) singles under their belt already, like, their first one, titled “Menneskeforbruger”, reached number one on a Danish radio top list once. Prior to the DMGP lineup release, amidst a bunch of few song and talent show wonders, they were the only act I’ve heard of and coincidentally even liked their music somewhat.
Their song, titled “Øve os på hinanden”, is about dancing. Fitting because their entry, which is more of an 80s rehash than an 80s throwback (as in, 80s but with a little something modern a la Dua Lipa), is all about the groovy music that would probably come all out after disco decade became over. Moreso, dancing of two partners and practicing the dancing on each other, somewhat. Lyrics are in Danish - first time a Danish entry is fully in Danish since 1997! History right there! Most other acts would mostly translate their Danish song into English once the language rule went abolished, but not these guys, because why they need to do a TIX and make an English song in their 3 song discography anyway. Good ^^
REVIEW
Sounds like one of those songs this year that can elicit the “guilty pleasure” reactions. Like Poland, which is mine. But for me Denmark is an actual pleasure, in a way?
The instant intro of the first few seconds really makes it a good blast of energy, because who isn’t resisting towards a nice little 80s synth. I don’t really fancy the verses being in a major key but they still feel very 80s in nature. And the chorus is really catchy, and so is the bridge, which is kinda maybe the best part of the song alongside the instrumental super 80s bits. I don’t know if Jesper is able to emulate an 80s vocal sound with his voice, but the whole band at least looks their part, at the very least, for Eurovision?
It also incorporates clapping. Just for the edgy “I don’t clap along to Soldi but I will clap to this” crowds out there. I love me some Eurovision clap songs.
But Denmark is kinda too prone to sending throwbacks that don’t add much new? Like, we got this 70s-esque throwback song from 2015, it can be very well argued that Lighthouse X were throwbacks to early 2010s boyband music that wasn’t as loud as the one of One Direction, 2014 had shades of the classic Bruno Mars of the time who himself have upgraded to sound like smooth R’n’B man for the ladies who sings about getting it with the ladies... are people in Denmark a little too nostalgic for their own good sometimes? Let me go there one day when panini subsides and check if they have a spare DeLorean, just for the fun of it, and if they keep the Deloreans as their biggest prized possessions in a way.
Overall a pretty standard dance song to dance to, if I expected some other mood being projected throughout it I’d straight up look at Gjon’s Tears staging. *orchestral music* Tout l’univeeeeeers *proceeds to moves arms like he’s performing “Rap God” in a talent show*
Yeah I like it, but I absolutely love the orchestral version posted above?? The big gall of DMGP to include orchestra on their NF while Albania’s NF traded it for a while just to have artists perform in the freezing cold outside instead... of course everything sounds better with orchestra. Smh at those who think otherwise
youtube
This is how the studio version sounds like by the way. All that review was for this. How does the studio pale in comparison to the orchestra, do you think
Approval factor: Yeah, maybe there’s some of it in me for this one too! Follow-up factor: Another broadcaster being cunts to their former act. Public outcries have been done ever since DR revealed the DMGP lineup and made them realize there’s no Ben and Tan in it, eventhough they said they would not send an entry to the next DMGP, but yet they did because they felt like it, and it was revealed in an ultimate dickish move that Ben and Tan were never allowed to re-enter in the first place. :’) Some say it’s because of prompting sympathy votes (as if Aksel and The Mamas needed any to win their NFs, OH WAIT.), some might even say it was because DR was too scared to do well and Ben and Tan were just *that* awesome. Songwise, I like their both entries equally, and it’s a nice Danish marketing move to go from one background music to another (but in 80s style). So it’s a move to an interestingly straight decent line, I guess. Qualification factor: In semifinals like these, when there are just that many good songs that cannot miss out on a final spot, some of them actually do end up in that unfortunate position unless they don’t... Denmark has a little bit of a chance? From the possible hopeless bunch I can only see one of Austria, Portugal and Denmark making it. Poland, a fellow 80s-like Nordic song, is too comedic to be taken seriously by the up-and-coming televoting community. Georgia is too mellow. Denmark stands out with a fun way of their own 80s, Portugal and Austria have decent live performances and stagings at the same time, one of which Fyr og Flamme might lack lol, but that doesn’t mean housewives don’t vote for something that reminds them of their youth years, no?
NF CORNER
Thankfully that apart from Ben & Tan fiasco you’re not missing out on much.
DMGP chose a weird kind of way to reveal entries - during 3 separate radio shows in between two channels amidst all kinds of random world&Danish popular music. During which presumably both radio stations played the soon-to-be-winning Fyr og Flamme’s entry a second time after the premiere. Like if we don’t know who’s winning already, huh, huh???
Well, there are at least some above-the-par entries, and a couple of my favourites were Emma Nicoline (synthpop in Danish which in her case of victory would’ve likely been translated in English???? hopefully not so we could’ve had a win-win in case Fyr og Flamme didn’t win) and Mike Tramp (yeehaw in English, and much different than what he did in Eurovision 1978 with the group Mabel and yet another song about rhythm, enough to incorporate live drum playing from a band member itself during the performance... their own prop drum, mind you). They probably sound a whole lot better in orcestra than they are in these studio versions, so go check them out on Youtube as well, if you’re willing. Much cheers
Also the funny thing about them - Jesper is from a little barely heard of island called Ærø, who coincidentally shares a flag with Lithuania’s, but their colors are much brighter than ours. I bring it up that it’s barely heard of because some Danish viewers (and the international ones that could’ve gotten a hold of the stream) were confused as to why Fyr og Flamme waved “Lithuanian” flags in the DMGP greenroom. I’ve heard about that as well. I know a person from Ærø. I was confused too at first. I’ve been there. And it’s thanks to that person I’ve heard of Fyr og Flamme. Ærø supports Ærø, it seems
ANY LAST WORDS?
Honestly, if they qualify (and so does Portugal), I lowkey hope for their NF to have more songs in their native language? Leonora went on to start something when singing a piece of her song in Danish, Fyr og Flamme continued the iniciative, lord knows if it continues to continue and give them a fruitful outcome in the end.
As for why I mentioned Portugal and language variety, well... there can still be winners in the Portuguese language, just it would be an initiative to RTP to invite more English-singing Portuguese songwriters who’d otherwise not really participate in FdC if they were asked to only sing in Portuguese? I don’t know, really. But yeah. Maybe.

I've been away and been catching up with blogs today- hence I am here hehe and just noticed that it says 'Loki is my god' didn't it used to say 'muse'? I saw that LTP is on semi hiatus, & read isn't really your muse any more- I am so sad :( Do you think it's a kind of burnout? Please know that LTP will always be for many of us the real Loki! Other fanfic can be good but you really 'get' him! Whatever you do, big big THANK YOU SO MUCH for this character, & I eagerly hope for him to pop by ;)
Ghehehe, wow, you've been paying attention. Thank you so much 😊 Yes, you are correct; it once said that he was my muse, but I elevated him to being my God. The most recent change in my description actually is 'Laurits is my cinnamon roll'.
LTP is indeed on hiatus, but that doesn't mean he's not my muse anymore, because he still very much is.
I'm currently working on creating a new path in my life which takes up a lot of energy and time. Loki has helped me through a ton of shit in the past two years, but right now he's a bit silent. (This also means I'm doing much better.) He's still there and he'll return, I know that for sure, but I think we both need some space.
And you make me blush, Anon. I've always tried to stay true to his character, both in my fanfics and the RP (even though it wasn't always pleasant). But it means a lot you're saying that. Thank you!
Loki isn't gone from my life, and he shall return and I shall write again, but for now my focus is a bit elsewhere. Just have patience 😘
