Do you ever look at your list of recently read books and think “these do not look like books a person with a normal brain would group together”
#so far this month i have read:#1 a literary fiction book that has won awards and is considered one of the best books that came out in 2019#2 a random mystery-thriller novel that was a bit predictable but alright#3 a fantasy novella with fairytale/folktale elements#4 a gothic horror novel that is considered a classic in the genre and came out in 1959#5 a gay ya contemporary romance translated from brazilian portuguese#do you see what i mean.#and last month was even weirder. last month i read: 1 a book of dub poetry#2 a ya urban fantasy/romance/whatever the hell it’s supposed to be set in the edwardian era#3 a fictional memoir with sci-fi undertones#4 a nondescript thriller#5 a ‘classic’ epistolary novel written by an insufferable man who needs to leave this poor girl alone#6 another nondescript thriller only this one was Really bad#7 another classic; this one about drugs#8 short stories but interconnected this time; primarily literary fiction but also historical; set in the us and haiti#9 poetry :)#10 another nondescript thriller#maybe it’s not That weird but like.. do you understand now why when people ask me what kind of books i like to read i literally cannot#answer them. like. i rarely read two books in a row that are of the same genre nevermind the same author#the amount of thrillers here is unusual. this is what counts as a thriller kick for me. 4 of them in 2 months#i hate answering ‘i’ll read anything’ when people ask me what i like to read because that’s so boring but like.. truly i will read anything#—apart from nonfiction. unless it’s a biography or like VERY occasionally history. otherwise i cannot#personal
