The issue is that Jungkook -and you're not a bitch for thinking that- is a little bit of an idiot.
He can be very smart. He can be wise and present unsuspecting resources and knowledge. He can teach you things you don't know anything about, figure out others you struggle to -but not during stressful times like for say an escape game because during those, he turns absolutely, utterly useless.
But he is an idiot too. An idiot that sometimes shapes situations and conclusions and ideas in a very peculiar way that is very singular to him.
That’s precisely what happens then. He plays his role right, to its full extent, with great dedication and commitment. Except he missed a memo, misread the script and ends up playing a role that's not the one you planned for him. He believes that he’s your new adult toy provider (as if there is such a thing).
When you think he’s coming over to share a meal or play some game or binge-watch a series you promised to wait for him to experience together, he has a box hidden in his pocket or carried under his arm.
He has the decency to not comment on it the first time around. He just set it down on the coffee table, between the bowl of chips and the one filled with guacamole. You see the logo on top of it. You recognize the design, reffined, minimalist with the pretty pastel matte colour.
He probably identifies the shame and the annoyance on your face, painting your cheeks and reshaping your eyebrows, and doesn’t say anything. Simply smiles to himself and starts talking about the series’ new episode that’s about to start.
It takes a lot of efforts, coming from you, to ignore the conspicuous object sitting just in front and in between you. But eventually, probably because more than a decade of friendship with this guy have grown impressive mind muscles on you, you manage to make abstraction of it.
It just stops existing for a while until he leaves and you’re curious to see what’s inside. And again you have the same old intentions as before. The same ones.
You won’t use it.
It’s curiosity. And it's fine for you to be curious because he’s the one buying it and gifting it to you. Why should you be blamed?
Freshly hopped in bed, just done reading the notice hanging over your face, you’re yawning and sending your eyebrows high in interest. Again you won’t use it but it sounds very interesting. That’s when you get a text from him.
Guk
So about the toy!
As if you were waiting for his explanation. As if the conversation got cut short and you were expecting him to pick it back up whenever possible.
You won’t entertain him.
You
I said not to buy me this.
Guk
You never said that! You said something about me being crazy but never about buying one again
Because you're mostly made of petty bitch material, you scroll higher quickly, wishing to find something, any text that would corroborate what you’re saying.
You don’t find anything though. Because you never actually told him to not buy you other toys by text, and now that you come to think of it, you probably never did out loud either because you didn’t fucking know that he would even consider doing so.
It’s not even Christmas anymore. It’s not your birthday. There’s even less of a valid reason for him to get you this therefore, of course, you did not explicitly warn him not to, you didn’t think it would be necessary.
You
It’s not even my fucking bday why???
Guk
I told you the lady at the shop
But who the hell is that lady?
Guk
She talked about a lot of products and they all seemed cool and because you liked the other one I thought I’d get you this one too
You
Jungkook
This simple response says a lot, you hope he can read between the pixels of his screen the desperation, the irritation, the frustration, the silent insults.
Guk
Listen it’s super cool it's supposed to mimic the touch of a finger
Jungkook then proceeds to explain to you how it works. The original idea being a system with a tiny ball rolling under a silicon skin, to place on your clitoris to have the illusion of a finger's touch. And it’s interesting and innovative surely and sounds intriguing as in, you wonder if it’s accurate, but you’re tired and it seems like you’re wading in some sort of swamp you can’t escape from. There’s a fire burning your skin from your cheeks to your chest. You’re both hating this conversation and unwilling to just draw a final period to it. This asshole.
You
I can read
Guk
So you opened it already??
There’s a bunch of excited emojis that follows his last message and fill up the empty space your lack of response leaves.
Why and how can he be so eager?
Here comes the delusional part of your brain. It’s a very wide, very deep hallway covered in bookshelves filled to the brim with stupid interpretations and beliefs and sometimes even memories you’ve shared with him. Often next to the laters are pinned an article from a teenage magazine or the jacket of a romance movie, specifically there to validate that yes, indeed, it must have meant something.
The door of that corridor just creaked opened. You can discern the sound, you can feel the particular atmosphere without even having to take a step through.
Is it really that normal to be so excited about that? For him? As a friend?
It’s the most frustrating part: you are friends. Friends who supposedly can tell each other everything. Friends who can ask each other anything.
You should be able to talk about it. Just ask him. If there’s anything behind this whole mess, if he means to tell you something, if it’s wholly mindless, if there’s no hidden agenda.
It should be fine. There’s only trust and affection in this friendship.
You are still too scared, you are terrified that he’d start linking dots, ask himself some new questions, potentially answer them himself, and have you all found out.
You'd have your barely well-worn cover thrown completely away.
You send the blank emoji. The one with even the eyes closed. It summarizes your actual state pretty well, speechless, relatively annoyed.
Guk
She said you could try it on other parts of your body too
Guk
At first
Guk
Like on your lips or your nipples
You want to die.
Now.
No, better, you wish to have never been born.
Why is he talking about your nipples? Why?
And through all that, you still feel like something is wrong with you, along with your feelings.
Turns out you are so overwhelmed by his clueless inadequacy, you need a good half an hour and a random shot of tequila to get through it. When it’s gone and exhaustion of a long day and alcohol have knocked nervousness and panic out, you fall asleep, forgetting about answering his outrageous last texts.
“What does it mean if a guy talks about your nipples?”
Min's finger stops midair, above the cash register she's been working on. She needs a good minute to get back to her senses and while you wait, anxiety invades you. Maybe you should never have brought it up.
But this question, the torturous thing is slowly killing you.
Min finally turns her head to you, eyes squinted and eyebrows drawn low. She sucks in her pretty red lips before opening them to start formulating, with it seems a certain struggle, an answer.
“I don’t think I quite understand.”
It’s a pretty straightforward, relatively easy question. That’s what you'd want to say but you’ve reached the state of bashful regret and decide not to press it. Some things are better just left alone.
“Who talked about your nipples?” She ends up asking the one thing you wished she wouldn’t because there is no way you’re giving his name.
“Doesn’t matter.” You mumble, turning around slightly, getting back to the task you were here, paid, to do -wipe the shelves clean and not talk about your “““love””” life.
“I think it does. You wanna know if it means something? Like the guy's into you?”
“Something like that.” Your cheeks are aflame now. No doubt about it. You silently curse at your manager who refuses that you don’t wear the ugly hat that holds your hair back because having a curtain of hair to hold behind, as a help to keep some of your remained, sparse dignity would have been peachy.
“What did he say exactly?”
Silence. You’re not elaborating. She sighs, defeated.
“Well, I suppose... he’s considered the fact that you have boobs. If it’s a straight guy, that’s a good sign, I guess?” She shrugs.
You don’t like the answer. It’s exactly what the wrong, defective part of your brain, the one directly wired to your heart, wanted to hear.
She doesn’t even have the context, anyway. It doesn’t mean much, doesn’t hold much power in your court of sensibility.
She stares at the side of your face, clearly attempting to drill holes in your head to try and find some answers. You’re awfully silent, have said too much yet not enough and she’s dying to know the whole story. You won’t give in and she can tell. There’s no way you’re sharing the whole thing. The most, probably, probative point of the whole story: the sex toys. It’d turn her into a devastating tsunami of nonsense and misinterpretation and drown you in its wake and you can’t, when you’re already struggling to stay afloat, allow that.

Covetous - Kageyama Tobio x F!Reader Part 1
Tumblr media
An au where Y/N is the Volleyball club's second manager and is a second year at Karasuno. Y/n helps Kageyama open up about his troubles with loneliness🙌💓
Pairing : Kageyama Tobio x F!Reader
Genre : Angst, Fluff, Swearing
Wordcount: 1.5k
Please don't be shy to give me feedback! I'm always up for improving my writing 😊
══
Covetous:
cov·et·ous
/ˈkəvədəs/
adjective
having or showing a great desire to possess something belonging to someone else.
══
Nishinoya received the ball with ease and it flew to the setter. Kageyama inhaled and jumped, tossing the ball to the perfect position for Asahi to spike.
"No!" Daichi yelled.
Nishinoya screamed, "It's too short!"
The ball smacked the wooden floor. No one was able to cover.
Fuck.
"Kageyama."
What's wrong with me today?
"Kageyama?"
I can't. The ball.
"Kageyama!"
Why?
He looked at his fingers.
Why doesn't it feel good today?
Why wasn't it perfect?
"KAGEYAMA," Tanaka screamed, "FOCUS."
He jolted at the sound of his senior. Kageyama clenched his jaw, an attempt to forget his disgusting toss . One more point and the match will be over. They defeated Shiratorizawa once, they can conquer them again. He had to show them that they are worthy of going to nationals.
"Something's wrong with Kageyama," Y/n muttered. Coach Ukai nodded.
Kageyama closed his eyes and exhaled. Sweat dripped down the corners of his face.
All I have to do is toss. I can't miss it. Focus. I have to toss. I have to toss. I have to toss! I HAVE TO TOSS.
But... where's the ball?
It hit the floor with a sickening thud. The whistle blew and the practice match was over. They lost the set. 25 - 16. They only lasted 30 minutes.
Hinata looked up. "You were supposed to toss."
Guilt tiptoed down his spine. He knew there was something wrong with him. Kageyama stepped back, horror evident in his face. His hands shook violently as he looked at his teammates.
"I feel sick."
As his teammates yelled at him to come back, Kageyama ran towards the baseball field. He didn't care that it was dark and that he wasn't able to see his surroundings, he just needed some time alone.
══
"Tobio-chan?" Y/n sat next to the boy. "Ryu said that this would cheer you up." She smiled as she handed him a blue carton of milk.
They sat in comfortable silence and on prickly grass. Amidst the dim lighting of the moon, Y/n underestimated the cold of the night. He sipped his beloved milk and looked at her.
"Thank you... L/n senpai. I owe you one." Y/n frowned.
"Tobio I told you to just call me Y/n! I don't like the way you refer to me as senpai I feel like Yu and Ryu." She stood up and chuckled at the second years' names. It had a weird ring to it. "So do you wanna you know? Talk? About it?"
Just talking to him makes me so nervous. Shit, did I just call him by his first name?
With only his back in view Y/n thought that she said something that upset him. Unreadable expressions that consistently decorated Kageyama's face proved it difficult to create a bond with the first year. Hinata and Yamaguchi were really easy to work with although they still called her senpai or san. Tsukishima gradually became comfortable with her presence and she let him call him by Kei. Calling Kageyama by his first name was definitely a mistake.
"I don't really know what happened." Y/n's heart broke. She never heard anyone else speak with such defeat naked in their voice. "It's complicated."
Ah. He doesn't wanna talk about it with me.
"I... see." She turned her back to the boy taking a step towards the Volleyball club's gym. She bit her lip, "I guess you don't want to talk about it with me."
"Y/n." Her eyes widened. "T-that's not what I meant. I jus- I don't know I mean. Please stay with me for a while Y/n san..?"
Kageyama never felt so uncomfortable using someone's first name. He hated the way it rolled out of his mouth. He hated how you were so cool about it when you called the third years by their name. You were so friendly with everyone. Everyone.
Even Tsukishima that annoying little shit.
He wanted to be just like that. He wanted to gain everyone's trust just like you. It mattered that you joined the club later than him and still managed to create a bond with everyone on the team. He thought he was the best setter in the prefecture. But can a setter be at his best when he doesn't even have the trust of his teammates?
Y/n burst into giggles. It was loud enough to attract the attention of Hinata and Nishinoya.
"Is L/n san laughing?"
"Did Kageyama make her laugh or what?"
They looked at each other. "That's weird?" The duo peeked and watched Y/n and Kageyama's antiques.
"Tobio kun why do you have to be so awkward?!" Y/n choked from laughing too hard. He glared.
"Shut up."
"Why is your face so scary? Stop being so mean all the time." She whined.
"IT'S THE ONLY FACE I HAVE DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM?"
It took a while for you to calm down. By then Kageyama was back to his original position, sitting down on the grass once again. It felt as if the sky turned a shade darker and Y/n didn't want to stay out too late. She didn't like walking home in the dark.
"Okay then Tobio kun, spill all your deepest, darkest secrets and I promise I will do my best to not be judgemental and love and accept you for who you are and also be a good senpai and set good examples for you to follow." She sat down.
"I have to spill all my secrets?"
"N-NO I was just joking I was just exaggerating don't take it so seriously!"
"It started happening... just last week." He looked at her face.
I think I'm forgetting that I'm not talking to Hinata who has a 2 second attention span.
"I realized that I needed to get better... fast. I started training at home for 2 hours with 5 minute breaks in between. I practiced tossing, spiking, receiving all by myself even though it was really hard. I started practicing with Hinata during lunch but he kept distracting me so I stopped and practiced by myself. I went home early after club session and I continued practicing. Everyday, every night all I do is practice. I don't have time for distractions. But this week, it seems as if I can't concentrate enough. This week it seems as if everyone trusts my toss a little... less."
Y/n blinked. His rambling was too fast for her to follow. However, she was more confused by the fact that he opened up to her. This person who barely knows her trusts her enough to be completely honest with her. Her heart swelled with how proud she was of the boy. He was finally opening up.
"You're wrong. You were the one hesitating," Y/n pursed her lips. "This isn't just about volleyball is it?"
For a moment, Kageyama looked scared. As if he was threatened by how much she saw through him. He looked away, making sure his scarlet face was not visible.
"I d-don't know."
"You think I haven't noticed you pushing everyone away?" Kageyama froze.
I was pushing everyone away?
"W- what?"
"You never go home with Shoyo anymore. You never show up when Daichi's treating all of us curry buns. We all know how much you love your curry buns. Even Shoyo is worried!" Y/n didn't understand how she was so fired up. She never liked to be straightforward with people who made her upset. She has noticed Kageyama being more distant lately but she never questioned it. It wasn't really her business.
"Tobio chan… I think you're lonely."
Lonely?
What do you mean by lonely?
"How could I feel lonely when I'm never alone?" Kageyama whispered. He didn't understand what this was about. He kept everything to himself and he liked it that way. It was the most effective way to deal with his problems. Why would he go around boasting about his troubles like some of his classmates? The 1st years solved their issues with childish methods, gossiping and talking behind others' backs. It wasn't very nice. He didn't want to be like that.
"Because you feel like you don't have anyone to talk to. This team, you know you can trust them." She smiled at him.
Realization struck Kageyama. She meant talking to the people he cared about. His team were his… friends.
" I see. People who I can talk to, people I trust. They're the ones I should go to when I have troubles?"
"They'll be there for you. I promise."
I've been pushing everyone away just to get better when all I needed was their company.
Small arms embraced Kageyama's hips, her head on his chest. Y/n knew the boy was astonished by her actions but she couldn't help it. Ever since she joined the volleyball club, she wanted to show Kageyama a little bit of her love and care for him. It was too obvious that he was some type of loner. All she wanted was to get close to him so he knows he isn't all alone.
"Y/n it's getting late," Kageyama muttered.
"Hug me back or I won't let you go, Tobio chan." The boy muttered a small 'fine' and put his arms around you. She grinned so hard it felt like she would burst from all the joy.
He trusts me now.
"Come on, let's go home. YU, SHOYO WHAT ARE DOING STARING AT ME LIKE THAT HUH?"

Intoxicated (Apollo Justice x Reader)
summary
You celebrate your tenth won trial with Apollo, and nobody else shows up to the party. The cheap booze lowers your inhibitions and you make bold claims that seem to spur things into action.
author’s note
Hello ! Haven't written in a long time, sorry if there are a lot of repetitions, poor vocabulary or OOC-ness. Any advice is welcome ;w; I wanted to write about a character that seems pure but can actually be lewd c:
Tumblr media
You had joined the Wright Anything Agency a few months ago, as a rookie attorney. As you were more preoccupied by finding out the truth rather than blindly winning trials, it was an obvious choice, and they accepted you ! It had been a bit weird at first, as you were almost fangirling over everybody – they were kinda famous after all. Phoenix Wright was, as always, just slightly unprepared enough to yield awkward situations in court, but he also had the guts to guide him when needed – that and his Psyche Locks. Apollo was a very straightforward, bright and rigorous member of the team, yet hiding some insecurities and doubts under his booming “I’m fine !”. Athena quickly became your best friend, her energetic personality and open mind making her a partner of choice for investigations, trials and gossip talk. Trucy wasn’t there all the time, but she was sweet and kind, even though she knew way too well how to wrap Phoenix around her finger. Daughters are scary.
Your first trial was uneventful, as you were against one of the Payne brothers. You wondered how these guys managed to still have a job in court when they lost every single one of their trials. Or maybe it really was a different brother each time, and their family tree was a nightmare. The next prosecutor brought you back to the hard reality though, as it was Simon Blackquill. The guy looked almost loony if it wasn’t for his sharp mind and observations.
Truth is, being harassed by a bird while being almost physically threatened didn’t bring out the best lawyer out of you, but you had guts. You felt when things didn’t sit right, and when people tried to hide something. If you didn’t, what were you doing as an attorney in the first place ? Call it instincts or something else, but you could physically feel something off, with the hair on the back of your neck standing up, or your gut sinking, or feeling like somebody threw a bucket of cold water on you. It’s not like you could outright point out lies, but when somebody was covering something by overdetailing, overjustificating… you felt it. The worst was when the sensation was like being out of your own body. Those times were rare, but it happened, and you were glad there was somebody next to you in the courtroom. The first time it occurred, Athena slapped you back to reality and it was very painful. You did not recommend.
Your guts worked well with the Mood Matrix, as it helped you pinpoint exactly what was wrong with the testimony, but it worked about the same with Apollo’s bracelet. You hadn’t had the opportunity to defend with Phoenix, but you doubted you’d be of any help. He was the mentor after all, and had more than enough guts for everybody in the office. His power was less timing sensitive than the others’, so your intuition wouldn’t help pry some answers out. And to be fair, you were a bit scared of messing up with him. You were still a rookie, and he had won over a lot of different prosecutors, renowned ones too. He had the experience, hell, he even had a daughter !
That being said, your first months there went by without any hitch, except the usual ones – police not giving you clues, a detective preventing you from looking at crime scenes, people lying… Since Wright was so busy, you often paired with either Apollo or Athena, and your bonds grew stronger with both of them. Athena was your bestie, you could talk about anything with her and her enthusiasm helped a lot during investigations. Apollo was great too, he was focused, determined, and really fun to tease. To be fair, you had the slightest crush on him, he made you laugh and you knew you could trust him, there was no mischief in him. Maybe more than a slight crush, since you also found him insanely attractive in his red pants and waistcoat. You had a thing for waistcoats, and the way it hugged his form revealed his square shoulders and overall manliness, even though he was short. Okay, maybe you had thought about ridding him of the waistcoat or about his large hands roaming on your body, but it never exceeded that, thoughts. There was a pureness about him that prevented you from any advance or flirting you might’ve wanted to initiate, plus it’s kinda hard to flirt when on murder cases. Though that didn’t prevent certain witnesses to openly do it with the prosecution…
You had just won your tenth trial, a pretty hard one to be honest, with Apollo’s help. Everything you had thought about the truth had been turned upside-down and shaken around in about three days’ time. Even if it wasn’t how you expected it, your client was not guilty and the true culprit was arrested.
You and Apollo decided on a small party to celebrate the hard to crack case, bringing snacks and booze at the office after hours. Sadly enough, Athena was busy on a case with Phoenix and they were investigating out of town, and Trucy practiced her magic show. So the both of you binged on the snacks all evening and got wasted on cheap beers and homemade cocktails. The conversation was cheerful at first, talking about how well you performed during the trials and generally throwing flowers at each other, then, as the words became slurred, you just complained about how no one was there to celebrate with you. It was nearing midnight when you shifted from your sitting position on the couch, feeling dizzy, head buzzing from the intoxication. Apollo was in no better state than you were, arms thrown back on the couch and head tilted towards the ceiling. In the spur of the moment, you decided to rest your head on the man’s thighs, and drunk you found them to be very comfortable. As he looked down to see what you were doing, you looked up and your gaze got caught in his hazelnut eyes.
“Your eyes are beautiful” you blurted out without even thinking about it, the drinks you had removing a few of your social filters.
The room had been pretty silent before you even decided to talk, so you thought nothing of the calm that followed your bold statement. Still feeling dizzy, you closed your eyes in an attempt to sober up a bit. You didn’t think – maybe you didn’t think at all – that you could walk all the way to your apartment in that state. A shadow danced over your eyelids, you felt warm air somewhere on your face, you weren’t really sure where, and felt something hot and soft pressing on your lips. Your eyes flashed open, and you managed to muster enough brainpower to comprehend the situation. Apollo was kissing you. Somewhere in the back of your drunk brain, a voice squealed about how you liked him, but you never thought he would like you back or something like that. It faded in the distance as Apollo moved slightly and you tasted a bit of bourbon, mixed in with sweetness and softness. You felt him rise again, and sucked lightly on his bottom lip, making you part with an audible pop.
When you opened your eyes again, he was staring at you, a soft pink hue on his cheeks, though you couldn’t tell if it was because of the booze or the kiss you just shared. You sat back up again, staring at him as you didn’t really make sense of what was happening. He had kissed you, but your drunken mind thought that something was off. Did you have to say something ? You didn’t know, but you knew you wanted to kiss him again. Your brain was completely taken over by the pleasure you had felt moments ago, and only wanted you to reiterate it.
“Apollo” you slurred while rising to your feet, taking a tentative step to get closer to him, but you didn’t expect to land on one of the discarded bottles, making you lose your already faltering balance. In a haze, you felt you were going backwards until your fall was abruptly stopped by… Apollo ?
He had rose to his feet and caught you in a tight embrace, preventing you from collapsing on the ground. You stared at his face and he seemed sober enough, at least he had control over his body. But his eyes were lidded and his stare heavy, as if he was intoxicated by something entirely different.
“Apollo ?”
You then realized that your faces were only a very few centimeters apart, and as your gaze lowered to his lips, he closed the gap and pressed his lips against yours again. Your brain screamed in pleasure at the sensation, his mouth hot and your lips melting onto his, his embrace surrounding you and you couldn’t get enough of him. You wrapped your hands around his neck, trying to regain a semblance of balance and you felt him nudge you gently backwards. It took a few steps interrupted by scalding kisses until you felt like he wasn’t supporting all of your weight with his arms around your waist. Thinking about his potential strength made your gut flip and flop, flashing images of what he could do with his strong arms appearing in front of your eyes. You had to break the kiss to catch your breath, cheeks red, disheveled and panting a bit. It felt so good, why did it feel so good ? You took a look at Apollo and he was also blushing, his eyes lost gazing at you, his lips slightly parted. His perfectly combed hair was tousled and strands fell around his face; and you thought he was so sexy.
“Apollo…”
Almost on cue, you felt his hands slip under your untucked dress shirt and slowly rise to your waist, maybe a little higher, near your ribs. The shirt rode up and exposed some skin to the cooler air of the room, a sharp contrast to Apollo’s very warm hands. You shuddered, but it wasn’t from the cold, as your breath hitched in your throat when you felt a rough thumb rubbing small circles on your ribcage. It had always been one of your sweet spots for some reason, and he had pinpointed it first try. You cupped his face with your hands and brought him back to your lips, like a thirsty man being handed a cup of fresh water. Your lips collided with his and the embrace felt even more fiery than before, one of his hands moving to your back to press him even more into you, one of his knees parting your thighs and making you sigh in surprise. Your bodies were glued together and you couldn’t get enough of being pressed against the hard planes of his torso, his heat radiating through your clothes and lighting your body ablaze. You melted into his embrace, into his soft lips that nibbled and sucked at you tentatively, an inherent passion and gentleness in every move.
It was intoxicating… If you weren’t dizzy enough because of the drinks, you were now definitely high on Apollo’s lascivious kisses. It was unbelievable how you thought him to be so pure and childish, as he revealed the lewder, hungrier part of himself, claiming you as his own and engulfing you in his scorching hold.
You didn’t mind.

Day 2 + Day 5: Spooky Colors ( @aphfallfandomweek )
AO3
Summary: Lovino was the relative in the family that no one particularly liked to visit. And wasn’t because he was crude: this was a misconception developed from the in-laws of the family who wanted to steal some of the family’s rich heritage. Rather, Lovino was just a different kind of Vargas. Or at least, Feliciano liked to think that his brother was.
Characters: APH Italy, APH South Italy, APH Spain.
Warnings: None. But it's spooky I guess? If you don't like spooks.
A/N: I... put two concepts into one story again -- I'm SORRY it's just very addicting to try and put them all together because it forces me to try and creatively shove them together. I hope it's not too clunky though... I've not actually posted any stories online with Feliciano or Lovino. Not yet anyway. It's not meant to be anything hard to look into, actually, so don't look too hard into this story.
##
Lovino was the relative in the family that no one particularly liked to visit. And wasn’t because he was crude: this was a misconception developed from the in-laws of the family who wanted to steal some of the family’s rich heritage. Rather, Lovino was just a different kind of Vargas. Or at least, Feliciano liked to think that his brother was.
Lovino liked to spend a lot of his days alone too and occupied the spare room of Feliciano’s paint studio when he came back from a long day from working at the pastry shop. Feliciano had given the space to him out of sympathy, as no one else in his family seemed to put an effort into knowing his brother beyond just his strange behaviors. Except for him and his Grandfather of course, but Romulus had passed away some time ago, leaving only Feliciano to be the sole caretaker of his brother.
Calloused hands and flour dusted fingers from folding dough and wheat did nothing to dissuade Lovino from coming over in the evenings to continue his work in his project room. Lovino always mentioned finishing the same painting that he started two months ago and had never let Feliciano see it since he bought his brother the easel.
Now, Lovino was one of the best water color artists that Feliciano had ever know. It deviated a lot with his own style, but not in a bad way. Feliciano often liked the crispness of oil-based paints in its raw form upon a canvas while Lovino once told him that he enjoyed the medium of water because he felt the transparency of the paint reflect a sort of ‘ambiguity’. He liked an image of a color that wasn’t quite solid and wasn’t too minimalist either, which made Feliciano very empathetic to his art pieces most of the time.
Lovino was a schizophrenic, part-time freelance artist.
It wasn’t a very pretty title, but it was because of this stigma that Lovino often told people of his condition first, like a warning, before accepting any commissions from any eager client. Lovino didn’t enjoy the idea of people giving him sympathy and especially disliked being compared to van Gogh in any way, shape or form.
Rather, he preferred patrons that were honest with him. And it was a trait that Feliciano envied; having interactions between others without that sense of superficiality to it.
Lovino was more grounded to the realities of people more than Feliciano ever was. And that, alone, was the reason why Feliciano loved his brother dearly. And the same reason why he had even given him the room in the first place.
Though, just because Lovino got commissions didn’t mean that he received a lot of them. The man would often burst into Feliciano’s small business building without a word and retreat his secret sanctuary in silence. But Feliciano never minded it; his brother’s business was his own.
That was, until one day Feliciano heard his brother talking alone inside of his room one night after washing all of his brushes. Feliciano had planned to leave early, as he had a scheduled 8:30 AM appointment with his next model soon. But the sounds of his brother speaking was what drawn him to stop and listen.
“Hang on,” Lovino was heard groaning on the other side of the door. “I’ll finish this part soon. Stop giving me that look, won’t you? It’s intimidating, and you’ll make me rush it.”
Feliciano quietly set his used brushes from earlier that day into a bucket nearby. And, watching his feet to ensure he did not step on anything, Feliciano leaned against the thin white door to eavesdrop.
“Yes, Toni. I know you like red. But I’ve already painted enough leaves around you. Any more of them and I’m sure you’ll look like you’re in front of a volcano!”
Feliciano bit his lip. A quick suspicion made Feliciano assume that Lovino snuck a male model into the room. But looking at the base of the door, he saw some movement of shadows.
But he could not distinguish if this was his brother’s movements or not.
“There. See?” Lovino murmured. “It was the green that was missing. Not the red. Red wouldn’t make much sense to add on to you. It’s like wearing a red shirt, red pants, red shoes and red socks: it doesn’t match.”
Feliciano moved away from the door now, perhaps realizing that Lovino wasn’t quite... himself. Lovino often had episodes of these, but ever since he had been on medication, he hadn’t fallen into the habit of babbling to himself until now.
But he didn’t want to be too straightforward with Lovino either. Pointing out his strange behavior would only strain their relationship as his only caring family relative and the last thing Feliciano wanted to do was to make his brother annoyed with him because wasn’t caring enough to shut up appropriately.
Choosing instead to promptly ignore the conversation in the other room, Feliciano began pack his things, set his coat on and retreat home to sleep. He and Lovino did not live in the same places, so he was never really sure about what time his brother went home.
But as Feliciano attempted to sleep, he couldn’t help but start to wonder about Lovino again. The way he talked behind that door and the emotion in Lovino’s voice that really almost sounded like he was speaking to his painting... the curiosity had burrowed itself into Feliciano’s brain enough to the point of making him unable to sleep. And months of secrecy on Lovino’s end was enough to draw Feliciano back into his car and drive right back to the studio.
It was just quarter past two in the morning when Feliciano arrived, fall air breezing through his hair. His keys clinked as he opened the door, and he turned the lights on, immediately heading for the forbidden room.
He swung the door open gently, turning on the lights.
The room was an absolute chaotic mess, as if someone had ransacked the place. It scared Feliciano a minute to think that the perpetrator would be somewhere nearby, but Feliciano did a quick sweep around the perimeter of the room.
No one.
The only object that was the most preserved in the mess was an easel and canvas in the center of the room, draped by a tattered blanket.
Feliciano frowned, feeling his chest compress. He felt like was violating his brother’s trust by peeking into his personal work. It wasn’t as if he was planning to do anything bad, right? Just looking.
Feliciano took a breath, going up to the painting and removing the cloth.
It was the portrait of a man that Feliciano had never seen before. The paint that was included in the picture was layered upon each other, blending a lot more smoothly into indescribable mixes of color; the paint’s opacity made it a hard to tell the difference if the color was in between red, yellow or green. The brush strokes that framed the man’s clothing were cleverly blended with the darker colors to contour the light more to the man’s chest, rather than the shoulders and overcoat. It curved at the exact angles that highlighted the physique under the painting’s clothing, and it caused Feliciano to realize that he had been holding his breath when he finished examining it.
Lovino really did pull reality from his imagination. The only thing that made the painting appear unrealistic was the white edges of the unfinished background and unpainted pencil-etched leaves. The picture was meant to fully depict a Spaniard of the 1600’s in the middle of the fall leaves, posing right before his voyage over the Atlantic. The portrait man gazed back at Feliciano, looking soft in his features but held a sense of power behind his gaze. The eyes were a piercing green, and it made Feliciano feel like he was being watched. They also looked like they were following him when he moved around even more, causing Feliciano to be completely unsettled by the eye movement. It was enough to make Feliciano want to leave.
It’s then that Feliciano grabbed the cloth, pulling it over the painting’s gaze as he retreated out back to the parking lot, heart beating from almost practically sprinting out of the building. He locked the door twice for good measure and checked it before starting his car.
##
The next morning hadn’t been too unusual after that. Feliciano had fought the evening’s events out of his brain when his patron showed up; a man who looked entirely ready for his own portrait by dressing in outrageous clothing. Feliciano could deal with outrageous.
He had spent the day avoiding the room when he was doing his own work and waited patiently for his brother to return after work.
Eventually, Lovino did come through the door. But not before Feliciano stopped him. His model had long gone at that point, giving Feliciano more time to speak to him.
“Fratello,” he called to his brother, causing Lovino to turn his head to him with tired attentiveness. “What are you painting in that room? I’ve always been meaning to ask.”
Lovino gave Feliciano an incredulous expression. But not before just sighing. “I’m actually almost done with it anyway. I suppose you could look at it.”
Feliciano practically jumped at this opportunity to be with his brother, dropping his palette onto a nearby table as he grabbed a towel to wipe his hands off on the way to follow Lovino back into the room.
But by the time his brother had opened the door, he felt himself freeze.
The room was practically spotless. Or at least, there wasn’t a place out of order like it had been last night. It looked as if someone had cleaned it, though Feliciano was 400% sure he had locked the door that evening and had not touched anything else in the room. Especially after seeing the gaze of that frightening man under the blanket on the canvas. He couldn’t stay after that!
When Lovino uncovered the painting, Feliciano had to bite his tongue.
The man that had stared at him last night was turned away from the viewer’s perspective, head turning to look back at the autumn scenery behind him. It caused Feliciano to rub his eyes, trying to understand how his brain was playing tricks on him.
He can’t have just imagined last night all on his own. Could he?
“Like it?” Lovino said, having not noticed Feliciano at all since he had also been staring at his own work and criticizing it himself. “It’s... not quite there yet. I’m missing a lot of the edges and leaves. But I think one more week would finally get this done.”
“W-Who is that?” Feliciano fought his voice to remain calm as possible, which clearly wasn’t working too well. “In the picture?”
“Someone I keep running into in my dreams,” Lovino sighed. “You know. Those dreams.”
Feliciano turned his gaze back to Lovino, who now appeared much quieter and more reserved after admitting that clause. Feliciano frowned at that. Lovino was trying to hide his hallucinations again. And fighting the urge to reveal the reason behind his own state of panic, Feliciano noticed that he began to say something else as well.
“I’m jealous, Lovino,” Feliciano replied. “I don’t think I’ve ever been able to really... do the same as you when it comes to painting in water color. It’s strange because it looks so real. Like it can move on its own.”
Lovino laughed at that. “You’re the only one who can see the reality of everything, Feli. I’ll admit it; sometimes I see the painting move all the time. And I think I can say that this one of my best works.” Lovino felt his smile soften when he stared at his masterpiece. “Antonio. That’s what I call it. It’s a name in Spanish that means something of value and praise.”
“I... didn’t take you for the type to be researching on name meanings, Lovi.”
“Shut up. Just because the names of your pieces are long doesn’t mean that mine have to be.”
Feliciano relaxed at that. “It’s beautiful, fratello.”
“It’s not finished yet,” Lovino murmured. “I’ll get it done soon. But I’d like to be alone, if that’s okay.”
“Of course.” Feliciano went to the door, letting him the space. And with a smile, he closed the door again.
But the second the door clicked shut, Feliciano’s expression that he had been keeping up had dropped. And fear poured into his heart as he dared to open the door once more.
“Lovino?”
The room was empty, with a gust of wind blowing into the room with the faintest smell of wet grass and undergrowth.
Feliciano stared at the picture that was revealed to him.
There, amid all of the colors of the fall within the canvas, was Lovino. And next to him was the man he had seen in the piercing green eyes, smiling right at Feliciano as he had an arm around his shoulders.
Feliciano only stared for a few moments before feeling himself drawn into the room. And with a final examination, grabbed the cloth again to cover the painting up as he picked it up into his arms to take home.

I want to tell you this from a Sansa stan perspective. I’ve seen u mention the Vale issue where she hid it from Jon. The way I see it as that Sansa hasn’t seen Jon in years, she had to convince him to fight/come home and she had no idea how good/bad he is at fighting, she also was never close with him before, was suffering from trauma ptsd and was extremely terrified at going back to ramsay (she legit said she’d kill herself if she had to), so she basically did what she had to. Cont’d...
           Part 2- I honestly would’ve done the same thing. She knows there is no way in hell ramsay can find out abt this and she can’t tell jon bc he is too straightforward (shown when he pledged to Dany in front of cersei) and he may not have seemed as desperate to ramsay therefore giving ramsay over confidence. Now I know jon is a fan fav and ur thinking wtf she could’ve killed him. But she barely knows him? I mean she even thought arya would kill her in s7. Besides Sansa has been on her own for long..
           Part 3- so she doesn’t have any time to leave her fate in anyone else’s hands. I think it was a last minute decision! I don’t think she wanted to go to baelish bc she knew that would be letting him back in her life. She was probably wrestling w/ the idea of doing this and ultimately decided to. I think it was smart what she did. TBH back then jon wasn’t this crazy impt part of her life, she had just reunited with him and the fear of going back to ramsay was GREATER than the fear of losing Jon!
The Sansa/Knights of the Vale/Battle of the Bastards issue is always a hotly debated one amongst her stans and those of us who are Sansa-ambivalent.
There were a few parts of your asks anon that I didn’t entirely understand [in bold above] but I’ll try to address anyway.
Your reasoning for Sansa not telling Jon about seeking help from Baelish and the Knights of the Vale are:
Sansa doesn’t know Jon that well - “she was never close with him growing up, he isn’t crazy important to her, she doesn’t know how good/bad he is at fighting…”
She’s afraid of going back to Ramsay, said she’d kill herself before she’d let this happen.
And she was wrestling with the decision to even ask for Baelish’s help because she didn’t want to let him back into her life.
With the exception of your point about Sansa not knowing whether Jon is a good fighter or not - that’s not really relevant - anon, I think all of the above is pretty valid and generally agreed upon by most Sansa supporters and why she doesn’t tell Jon about the KOTV.
So obviously, the ordering of the episodes is incredibly important here.
We’ve got the Jon/Sansa reunion at Castle Black in 6x04, an entire episode before the Sansa/Baelish reunion in Mole’s Town in 6x05 - when Baelish tells Sansa about the KOTV being at Moat Cailin.
Jon and Sansa reunite in 6x04, it’s the first time they’ve seen family in years, they hug it out, Sansa gets cleaned up off-screen, they reconvene likely in Jon’s old office and they reminisce for a bit over soup and bad ale…but then almost immediately after reuniting, Sansa asks for Jon’s help to take back Winterfell. This is before they know about Rickon, this is before Ramsay has threatened the Free Folk Jon let south of the Wall, this is before Sansa knows Baelish has brought the Knights of the Vale North. This is before everything. Jon and Sansa haven’t been openly threatened by Ramsay yet and they have nothing but each other - no armies, no allies, nothing.
And Sansa still asks Jon to help her in that scene in 6x04.
For someone who allegedly doesn’t trust Jon, she’s already asking SO much of him. She hears in a scene off-screen that Jon assisted the Free Folk and let them south of the Wall and she immediately asks how many of them there are…hinting to Jon that she wants him to ask them to fight for her.
[Side Note] This is one of the things that pisses me off about Sansa and her stans. Daenerys gets hurled the “she’s entitled” accusation a LOT but Sansa here, in this scene with Jon, is acting SO entitled. Entitled not only to her brother’s allegiance to her and his sword - asking him to fight for her - but also entitled to the people who are possibly loyal to Jon. Sansa has never spared a second thought for the Free Folk, has never done anything to help them in any way, her story has never crossed with them at all…and yet now that she knows her brother helped them, she’s already thinking of them as potential soldiers in an army for her to take back Winterfell.
And again, at this point, they haven’t received Ramsay’s letter. They haven’t been threatened yet. And even when they do receive Ramsay’s letter, there’s still the possibility of Sansa and Jon going into exile in Essos. She’s a talented seamstress. She could be employed by some noble lady in Essos and have a comfortable living. For all she knows - before Ramsay’s letter - Rickon and Bran and Arya are dead. So why take back Winterfell? She tells Jon “We’ll never be safe” but that’s not really true. She’s got a very narrow view of the possibilities here.
Arya actually did go into self-imposed exile in Essos to become a Faceless Man - knowing there was a possibility she could be turned away - which she was at first, but she went anyway. So it was completely a possibility for Sansa as well. She just didn’t want to do that. She wanted to go home. She felt she had a right to do so. And of course, she wanted her revenge against Ramsay. Totally valid, I don’t blame her for that.
But let’s call a spade a spade.
This wasn’t for Sansa’s “safety”. Safe would be avoiding the fight altogether. Safe would be Sansa not gathering up an army of a few rag-tag Northern Houses and the Free Folk thereby painting a proverbial bullseye on her back with a sign that essentially says “Hey Ramsay, I’m right here in this military encampment, come get me.” [End of Side Note, but actually addresses anon’s second point about Sansa being afraid to go back to Ramsay…clearly, this is not the way to stay off his radar]
Getting back to the main point again, Sansa not telling Jon about the KOTV…
The whole excuse of Sansa “not trusting Jon” because she doesn’t know him that well, they were never close, etc. I think is pretty bullshit. D&D have this to say of the Jon/Sansa reunion in 6x04 in the Inside the Episode:
“The idea that after all Jon and Sansa had been through as characters that they’re finally able to put a foot back on solid ground in terms of family and somebody with whom they have a bond that runs deeper than any other bond. It was a big moment for the two of them and for us to see it played out.”
“And to learn where we’re going to go with a relationship that never really meant that much to either one of them before now means so much because at this point, they’re all that they have.”
“It’s really only the additional pull of family and finding out that Rickon Stark is still alive that forces his hand and pulls him back into this fight he was trying to step away from.
Also of note: at this point, Sansa knows Jon died. “I can’t stay here, not after what happened,” Jon tells her, “what happened” being that his men mutinied and killed him. If anyone is in further doubt that Sansa knows about Jon’s death, Tormund openly says “He died for us” when they’re negotiating with the Free Folk and Sansa doesn’t bat an eyelash. So she knows Jon died and was resurrected.
So we’ve got these two people back together, the only living family either of them have that they know of, Sansa knows Jon died, Jon knows Sansa escaped Winterfell to get away from her rapist husband. Those are MAJOR things! We’ve also got to remember, Sansa hasn’t been involved in the fantastical elements of the story thus far. She hasn’t seen magic or dragons or anything really. So to find out her brother was brought back from the dead is CRAZY. ~Honestly, I really hate that the show just glosses over that like it was as simple for Sansa to accept as, “Oh yeah, Jon had open heart surgery but he’s fully recovered now.” Like, no. This is seriously unbelievable stuff~ But regardless, Sansa knows this happened to Jon. She accepts it. We never see her question his resurrection so she must have seen his scars, spoke to Melisandre off-screen or something.
And yet, even though she knows he died, even though he’s her last living family member, even though she’s already asked him to help her take back Winterfell, Sansa doesn’t trust Jon enough to tell him about the KOTV….?
Of Sansa and Baelish’s meeting in Mole’s Town where Baelish tells Sansa about the KOTV and that they’re basically at her disposal should she ask him for his help, D&D have this to say in the 6x05 Inside the Episode:
“Sansa’s gotten pretty good at playing the game. When she sees Littlefinger though, it’s not about politics, it’s not about trying to manipulate him or anything. He betrayed her in the worst possible way and so in her mind everything that happened after that he’s to blame for it. I think it goes through her mind how satisfying it would be to see Brienne just cut him in two right here. But she doesn’t and that she doesn’t is an interesting quality of Sansa’s. That she’s started to look a couple moves ahead and she’s starting to think ‘is it possible this person will be more useful to me alive than dead?’”
“It’s funny because even as she’s trying to make a clean break with Littlefinger, Sansa is showing us the ways in which Littlefinger has shaped her way of looking at the world. With the decision not to tell Jon about the meeting with Littlefinger, with the decision not to tell Jon how she knows about the Blackfish, if she really trusted Jon, and she really was coming at this as a clean, pure Stark, she would tell the truth to her brother and the person to whom she has real allegiance at this point. For whatever reason, she holds back on that and I think that shows that Littlefinger still has some kind of a hold on Sansa.”
Granted, Dan Weiss’ line “For whatever reason” is a bit of a cop-out because it still leaves the audience wondering…okay, what is the reason? He says Baelish has a “hold” on Sansa and certainly, with what David Benioff says before about Sansa “thinking a couple moves ahead” and Baelish possibly being “useful” to her makes sense. But still, even if Baelish would be “useful” to Sansa, it doesn’t explain why she doesn’t tell Jon.
Weiss says, Jon is the only person whom Sansa has real allegiance to at this point. Yet she lies to him and manipulates him.
Going back to anon’s point about “Sansa not sure she wants Baelish back in her life” - or from what I’ve seen of some stans: Sansa doesn’t want to tell Jon about Baelish because Jon wouldn’t allow it after Baelish sold her to the Boltons, Jon wouldn’t approve, I’ve seen some people even go so far as to suggest Sansa’s afraid of Baelish…
But none of what D&D say above suggests any of that. In fact, Benioff’s quote about Sansa looking a few moves ahead indicates Sansa was already considering the offer Baelish brought to her but refused to his face because of his betrayal of her - selling her to Ramsay. She’s hurt, she feels betrayed, she knows Baelish loves her, yet she knows she needs him. Accepting his offer of help right away would make Sansa seem more forgiving than she wants to appear in Baelish’s eyes.
Tumblr media
Or, alternatively, as suggested by Sansa’s letter, decoded above, she knew Baelish would require some sort of “reward” for his help and didn’t want to owe him, likely knowing it may even be her own hand in marriage after Ramsay’s death.
But EVEN STILL, even with everything Baelish has done, judging by Jon’s reaction after the battle “You told me Lord Baelish sold you to the Boltons…you trust him?” he wouldn’t have been opposed help from the Vale, had he known it was an offer on the table.
And this was not a last minute decision of Sansa’s. This was something she was stewing about for weeks. She had this information for a while and let’s face it, she sent this letter out to Baelish well before the battle. Again, the KOTV were garrisoned at Moat Cailin. That’s not a short distance to Winterfell. The distance as calculated HERE between Moat Cailin and Winterfell is about 350 miles. Even if it were a hundred miles, it would still take a week, longer maybe, for the KOTV to reach their destination. Not counting the travel time for the raven.
And we can’t say Sansa didn’t “know” whether or not Baelish would come through. Of course he would come through. That’s why she hesitated. Because she knew he would do whatever she asked of him. Again, she knows he’s in love with her.
So far as Jon was concerned, if Sansa already had told Jon that Baelish was the one who brokered her marriage with Ramsay and she was afraid Jon wouldn’t want further help from Baelish because of that, Sansa could have lied and said it was her cousin Robin who was offering her his help, not Baelish. She could have made something up, anything. Baelish had gone back to King’s Landing, went to go serve the Lannisters again, whatever.
Jon knows they need all the help they can get. He’s not going to ask too many questions and he really can’t argue when there’s the promise of a mounted army of 2000 men at their disposal, especially if Sansa already has a good cover story for it - Robin Arryn, Lord Protector of the Vale, is her cousin.
There’s just really no good reason Sansa could have for not telling Jon about it. No. Reason. She lied to him about the Knights of the Vale - lie by omission - and she manipulated him using Rickon as an excuse for Jon to go to war when Sansa knew there was a very slim chance Rickon wouldn’t live.
Again, Sansa has some wins throughout GOT but she really does not impress me in the later seasons with either her attitude or her actions. She doesn’t start to put
family
first until the very last episode of Season 7 when she off-screen goes to Bran and asks for his advice on the whole Arya situation and Bran tells her Arya isn’t the one she needs to look out for, it’s Baelish. Everything before that, everything before the Baelish execution scene, Sansa is looking out for Number 1 and spends most of her screen time either undermining Jon or being sore about the fact that she’s not Queen. Sorry.
Oh yeah and, in the 6x09 Inside the Episode….
~~~Dan Weiss confirms Ramsay is Jon and Sansa’s “prisoner” after BoB~~~
Just saying…
Diamond Mini Masterlist
Tumblr media
It was definitely one of the most awkward Lunches you’ve ever taken with anyone, ever. Thankfully though Baekhyun and Yixing did all the talking to spare you and Sunmi the tedious job. It shouldn’t be that bad considering that the two of you are sisters, but it has been 10 years since you last spoke. She never blames you for her condition because your parents berated you enough about it back then. Even after waking up from a 2-day coma, you can feel their accusations with the way they treated you.
The only constant person who was by your side through your recovery was your older brother and your aunt, who has been long gone. You wish she was still alive to this day so that you can properly thank her for her love and care.
Sunmi cried the day you left home. She kept asking for you to be beside her even after years of being exiled. You know this because your brother updates you every day then.
Baekhyun and Yixing are talking about someone’s wedding happening next week, you forgot who it was because you’re trying to concentrate really hard not to have a panic attack as you pretend to eat the meal that was served in front of you.
“Soojin-ssi…”
You heard Baekhyun calls for you. The slight irritation in his voice woke you from your thoughts.
“What?”
“I said, I need to take you shopping for something to wear for the wedding.”
“Wedding? What wedding?”
“We’re expected to attend that wedding together, you have no choice either way.”
“Oh.”
“Baekhyun Oppa…”
Sunmi softly interjects. You can almost hear Baekhyun’s neck crack when he suddenly cranes his head in Sunmi’s direction. He immediately smiles sweetly as if she can see him.
“Yes, Mimi-ya?”
“Can I ask you something?”
“Sure, anything.”
“W—why do you…”
Sunmi trails off and Baek lightly pats her forearm with his left hand to continue.
“Why do you sound like that when you talk to my eonni?”
“How do I sound like?”
Baekhyun asks.
“Like you’re holding back anger…”
Baekhyun freezes with how straightforward Sunmi was with her answer.
“I— What do you mean? I—'m not holding back ang—”
Baekhyun was so flustered all you can do is puff out a scoff.
“Stop it, Baekhyun. Don’t lie to my sister like that. Let’s stop pretending already.”
Baekhyun instantly drops the chopsticks he was holding on his right hand with what you said.
“Excuse me?”
The look he gave you almost scared you. It felt like he wanted to hit you or something.
“Sunmi, I guess you already know that Baekhyun and I are engaged right?”
Sunmi nods her head.
“Yes, mom told me.”
“And I found that out only days after I got back from America. And I found out about my engagement along with hundreds of other people. No love revolves around this at all, so please get used to the way Baekhyun and I talk to each other.”
All of them are lost for words. You don’t expect them to talk anyway after that.
“And you can’t tell the elders what happened here. They didn’t know Baekhyun treats me like shit.”
“Treat you like shit? Wow!”
Baekhyun urgently stood up from his chair, the base of it dragged on the concrete below him.
“Look who’s talking here. You’re the one who is treating me like shit, Soojin-ssi.”
He put emphasis on the way he mentions your name.
“How do I treat you like shit, Baekhyun-ssi? All I did was cooperate and endure with your bullcrap.”
You put emphasis on his name too, to mock him. You saw in the corner of your eyes Sunmi reaching her hands to Yixing as she shakes slightly with unease.
“I— You know what, you’re really frustrating! I was having a good time just now and you always have to ruin my mood. ALWAYS!”
It was now your time to stand up from your chair and throw the table napkin on your lap to the plate.
“I’m glad to always ruin your mood, you deserve that at least. Sunmi, we should catch up later. I really missed you a lot. But for now, I have to get away from him.”
“I’m—I’m sorry, Eonni. Please don’t go.”
The tears are starting to form on the sides of her eyes and Yixing was quick to dry them with his attractive and nimble fingers. Strangely, he and Baekhyun have similar pretty-looking hands. But Baekhyun pisses you off so you don’t really think about it that much.
“You have nothing to be sorry about. I will talk to you later.”
As you were walking away, Baekhyun suddenly captures your wrist and pull you roughly in the direction of the garden’s labyrinth. You squirm and writhe for freedom from his grip, but his hold on you is solid. He may look weak and flimsy sometimes, but he’s nothing like that at all.
“What the hell, Baekhyun! Let me go!”
You finally wail when you’re far away from your sister’s range of hearing and you’re both behind a really tall hedge of the garden maze.
As you were pulling your hand away from Baekhyun’s grip, he suddenly let go and you hit your arm on the twigs of the hedge, scraping your skin and it almost immediately started to bleed. Baekhyun’s eyes grew the size of the moon and grab your arm back but a lot gentler this time. He dusts off the fallen leaves and dirt fragments with the sleeves of his dress shirt. You wince as you felt the sting of Baekhyun’s shirt wiping on the multiple tiny wounds.
“Fuck! I—I’m so sorry... Fuck!”
“Let go of me, Baekhyun! You asshole!”
You try to shake Baekhyun off but he swiftly seizes you in a tight hug, burying your face in his chest. He caresses your hair as he inhales deeply as if he wants to memorize your scent in his mind.
“I’m sorry.”
“What are you trying to do, Baekhyun?”
“I’m sorry. I’m really trying here, Soojin. I just want this to work for us.”
The tenderness of Baekhyun’s voice is making your stomach do crazy flips.
“Let me go, Baekhyun. What are you doing?”
You gave up on pushing him off when he doesn’t budge. You stay cradled in his arms for a while before he completely pulls away to look at your bleeding arms. You can tell by the expression on his face that he really feels bad for the wounds on your arm.
“Your indecisiveness is confusing me, Baekhyun. What is the real deal here?”
You whisper those words, you’re sure he didn’t hear them, but he did and he instantly looks you in the eyes as if he wants to tell you everything in his mind but hesitating to spill his feelings.
“Soojin, can we talk about that next time? Let’s get your wounds cleaned, okay.”
You just nod your head yes. You know you won’t make him talk anyway. He’s stubborn and he does what he wants.
Baekhyun took you to your bedroom, he cleaned and patch you up with the first aid kit he found in your bathroom. Mia walked in on you being taken care of Baekhyun and when she was about to leave you two alone, you stopped her so that you won’t get to be alone with Baekhyun anymore. You don’t trust his hot and cold tendencies.
Apparently, your parents have to go to Japan for an emergency meeting in the Japanese branch of the company. Something about delayed shipments and other issues they need to fix as soon as possible. Mia said your father will give you the lowdown once they get home and will finally introduce you as the next CEO of the company to the board members soon.
Baekhyun said he will help and be with you each step of the way. He said he doesn’t have much help when he became a CEO and the first thing you needed is a support system. And he can be exactly that for you. Again, you nod in agreement with him, but you know his words are just false earnest and his mind will change again. He’ll be as cold as ice soon.
~~~
As you were about to leave with the girls for brunch, Baekhyun was waiting for you outside his car in the front yard. He pulls his sunglasses down to look at you as he flashes you a smile.
“Good morning.”
He greets.
“What are you doing here?”
Hisako frowns.
“I’m here to pick up my fiancé.”
A rectangular grin forms on his lips. Hisako immediately shuts her mouth with confusion dancing around her eyes. She looks at you with her mouth hanging open as if saying “Who is this person and what has he done to Byun Baekhyun.”
“Uhm no, Baekkie. We’re going out for brunch.”
Yanmei comes to the rescue.
“Uhm no, Mei-mei. I’m taking my fiancé with me.”
Baekhyun echoes Yanmei’s tone scornfully. He walks up in front of you and takes your arm to check on the new bandage Mia dressed your wounds with. He smiles with contentment as he clasp your palms together and he gently pulls you in the direction of his car.
“I—I can’t come without Mia. I nee—”
Before you can even complain, Baekhyun took his phone from his shorts pocket with the hand that’s not holding yours and speed dial your mother’s number and put it on speaker. Almost too immediately your mother answered the call.
“Yes, Baekhyun dear?”
“Mother,  is it okay if I take Soojinnie shopping without Mia?”
Baekhyun put emphasis on Soojinnie, smirking down at you. Your face soured up a little bit with his foulness on using your mother so he can have it his way again.
“Of course, my dear! You don’t need my permission if you wanted to take her out.”
You can hear the excitement in your mother’s voice from the other line and all you can do is roll your eyes and sigh in annoyance.
“Thank you, mother. I’m on my way to her now.”
Baekhyun lied convincingly.
“You kids enjoy, okay?”
“You heard that, babe?”
Baekhyun said after ending the call.
“You play nasty Baekhyun. I hate you.”
“Tell me something I don’t know already.”
“But what about bruuuunch!!!”
You heard Hisako whine but you didn’t dare remove your angry glare at Baekhyun.
“Thankfully I’m a lot smarter than you all think. I called Jongdae and I told him to take you two out.”
Just as Baekhyun said those words, an SUV pulls up on the driveway and stopped right behind Baekhyun’s car. You look behind to see Jongdae exiting from the passenger side.
“Jongdae!”
Yanmei squeals and Jongdae runs up to give her a tight hug. Hisako groans with irritation as the two gobble each other up in front of her.
“Really, Baekhyun? I’d rather third-wheel with you and Sooj.”
“I don’t think so, Hisa.”
Baekhyun clicks his tongue and point in the direction of the SUV with a nod. Chanyeol handsomely exits the vehicle with his over-sized shirt and shorts as he pushes his unstyled hair up and it fell right back down to curtain his handsome features.
Chanyeol flashes his gummy smile when he saw that Hisako’s looking at him. Hisako closes her mouth before she starts embarrassing herself with her drool.
“Yah Yeollie-yah, meet us at that Halmoni’s small restaurant by 12:30. Don’t be late.”
Baekhyun said before pushing you into his car and fastening the seatbelt for you. Chanyeol only winks at him as a reply.
“Where are you taking me?”
You ask Baekhyun as he speeds up when he exits the gate.
“I told you, we’re going shopping.”
“For what? I have a lot of clothes already?!”
“I’m not buying you just any clothes, Soojin.”
Baekhyun’s grip on the wheel is getting tighter.
“Baekhyun just— I don’t want this right now, I just want a peaceful brunch with my girlfrien—”
“Can we just forget about things and go through one day without fighting, Soojin? I’m getting tired of this already!”
Baekhyun abruptly stopped the car and hit the wheel with the ball of his palm.
“If you’re getting tired of this let’s cancel the engagement. It’s never too late, Baekhyun!”
“Why would I want to do that?”
Both his eyes and nose flares when he snaps his neck to your direction.
“Because you don’t love me! We don’t love each other!”
“We don’t need love in this world and in our lives, Soojin You know what we need?”
“What?”
You said in a shaky voice as you remove the seat belt. Baekhyun removes his and grabs both your arms as he scoots forward up to your face, both your lips almost touching. You can feel his hot and rapid breathing ghosting over your skin.
“We need to make our parents happy and the only way we can do that is through this arranged marriage. Now can we please pick you a dress that you can wear to Minseok Hyung’s wedding?”
Baekhyun more of threatens than pleads you. He grabbed the seat belt and snaps it back on when you didn’t object.
“M—Minseok?”
“You know Minseok Hyung?”
“I—I don’t know. His name sounds familiar.”
“Then you’ll find out next week if you know him.”

Why Indeed Is the Best Place to Advertise a Job
Small business owners repeatedly told us that Indeed connected them with more qualified candidates faster and for a lower price than other job boards. This is because:
Indeed has the most traffic of any job board website
Their unique pricing model allows you to set your own budget on job ads.
Indeed also is used for reviewing employers (just as Yelp is for reviewing vendors), which makes it a popular and trusted resource for applicants who are researching companies. Ladders and Monster do not have the employer review features that Indeed has.
Additionally, Indeed’s innovative pricing model leads employers to pay much lower costs on average than on Monster. You get to set your own budget and only pay when a visitor clicks on your job ad.
If you’re going the opposite route and looking to browse through a database of resumes, Indeed is a good value for its unmatched volume with over 60 million resumes in their database. You can view resumes for free and only pay $1 when you want to get the candidate’s phone number and email, or when you want to send them an email directly through the website. While Ladders is free for this, they have a much, much smaller pool of resumes than Indeed for you to look through.

When to Use A Different Job Board
Indeed covers a wide range of job types, from entry-level clerical jobs to skilled management positions. What they don’t cover, however, are the two extremes: low paying/minimum wage jobs on the one end and senior-level and positions with highly-specialized skills on the other (nor do they cover commission-only or freelancer jobs, but none of these 3 job boards do that).
For hourly, low-paying jobs, Monster is actually a better option than Indeed as this is one of its target markets and it has a posting geared towards just those job seekers for 14 days. You could also try Craigslist, or other job boards designed for hourly employees.
For the opposite end, the high-level senior roles, Ladders is a great option since that is what it is geared towards. One of the main parameters of Ladders is all jobs pay $40,000 or more, and it used to actually be $100,000 or more! Needless to say, many of the resumes on their website are for highly skilled employees. You could also consider LinkedIn for your search, especially for these more senior roles.
There are also a few other websites that can be good for certain niche industries. We explain these at the bottom of this article, as well as in our article about our top 59 job posting sites.
How Job Boards Work: Indeed, Ladders, and Monster
There are three main ways people use job board websites:
Applicants browse recent job postings (and apply or register for a profile)
Employers browse a database of resumes (and post a job or register for an employer profile)
Visitors read company profiles to learn more about the business and/or to read reviews left by employees
All of the websites we reviewed cover the first two features. Only Indeed, however, covers the third feature. Of the three, Indeed is also the only website that allows employees to write reviews. This is important, as positive employee reviews can encourage a lot more candidates to apply for your job.
Indeed
Indeed is a simple and straightforward job board website. Applicants can browse for jobs available in their local area. Clicking a job title brings visitors to a job description (like the one pictured below). Or, if they prefer, businesses can send visitors to a page on their own website.One of the key advantages of Indeed is its company profiles: Visitors can click on the company to read a description provided by the company and reviews left by employees. Indeed is one of the most popular websites for employees to research companies. The other big one is GlassDoor, which also offers a job board where you can post a job, but for a cost.
Indeed also has strong back-end tools for managing applicants, like pre-filtering applicants who don’t meet your education or experience requirements. From your control panel, you can view all of your past and present ads. Clicking each brings up the list of candidates who applied. You can view their resumes and cover letters, write them a message to set up a phone interview, or send a pre-written rejection letter. You can also update the status of each candidate (“phone screened,” “interviewed,” “offer made,” etc.) to keep things organized, similar to an Applicant Tracking System.
Ladders
Ladders is a simple tool to use for higher level jobs. Applicants can easily register for a profile, and they pay on their end for some services (like customized open jobs emails and getting exposure to companies recruiting on Ladders), which is how Ladders is free to employers (an interesting and different model).From an employer standpoint, the perk of everything being free, from posting to resume views, is great. However, the website has limited reach and has only a fraction of the traffic of Indeed. Another downside is Ladders has strong requirements on what you can and cannot post, which are summed up as, “Please be aware that any commission only, financial advisor, part-time and contract positions less than 12 months, and jobs with total compensation under $40K will not be approved onto our site.”
Monster
While Monster is a smaller job board website compared to Indeed, it has some handy tools that can make it attractive to some employers. For one, you can write more detailed listings with photos and a job summary column. You can even create a pre-screening questionnaire for applicants to fill out (versus the yes/no options Indeed lets you add). A downside to Monster is that there are no company profiles, as there are on Indeed, as well as the hefty price tag. As we’ll cover next, Monster’s resume database and postings are by far the most expensive of the 3 websites.
Price: Posting a Job
The price of posting a job can be a deal-breaker for many small business owners. With some job boards charging $250-500/post in certain cities, we focused on 3 sites that had affordable price options and also spanned what our readership might need for when they advertise a job.
Indeed: Indeed is technically free, although less free than Ladders. You can post your job ad without paying anything at all. A free posting will display your ad in the job industry and by the time it’s posted. Once someone else posts a similar role, your job will fall down in the ranks, and so on.It’s recommended, however, to “sponsor” your ad on Indeed, which increases its visibility when applicants search for jobs. We have a separate guide on how to make the most of your Indeed posting.
Rather than charge a flat fee, Indeed allows you to set your own budget when sponsoring a post. This is because they follow a pay per click (PPC) model: You pay $0.25 to $1.50 each time your ad is clicked on. Once you reach your daily budget maximum, Indeed will stop showing your ad until the next day. The price per click varies depending on the competitiveness of your market and type of job.
This pricing model has two major benefits:
The flexibility to set your own budget.
You only pay for the length of time you need. If your position is filled after 3 days, you only pay for 3 days of advertising.
Ladders: Ladders is free for employers to post jobs. Instead, it is the candidates who pay to search for jobs. One of their quotable phrases is that, “Yes, Ladders Recruiter is completely free. You can post as many jobs as you want and search for candidates-all for free. There is no expiration date and you will not be asked to enter payment information to continue with the service.” Normally, a price point like this with a guarantee would get our top slot as the recommended service, but, in the end, Ladders is very limited in its reach. One issue is that many millennials have never even heard of this website. Ladders needs to step up its advertising game in order to make its presence on the map for all job seekers now that it has lowered its barrier to $40,000 salaries (and up).
Monster: Standard job ads start at $399 for 1 month. The price for job ads decreases if you buy multiple slots at once, which you can see here, but it only decreases by a few bucks. The better option if you are going to make that kind of investment are the “value plans.” These are a combo of posting and resume searches charged by the month (starting at $249) very similar to recruitment software. Monster also has a low-cost option for skilled & hourly jobs. You can post a 14-day job ad for just $119. You do have to pick 1 of 300 job titles as designated by this category. Also, some of the advanced tools, like screening questionnaires and auto-reply, are not available.
Price: Resume Searches
If you are not in a major city, or if you have niche needs and prefer to source candidates who you know will fit your role, resume searching is a crucial part of the job search. Our 3 systems span a wide range of prices and how they work.
Indeed: It’s completely free to browse through Indeed’s resume database. However, you do have to pay $1 each time you contact a potential applicant. They used to allow 100 free emails for new employer accounts, but eliminated this in January 2017.I do like that they automatically match up resumes to your job postings, especially since you can order the results based on the last date they were active, as well as their distance from your workplace. Even if you spend $100 on resume outreach, that’s 100 candidates who fit what you need – the chance of 10-20 of them being interested is pretty high and that is worth it!
Ladders: Ladders is completely free for the employer to search through and contact resumes. This is because the cost is passed to the job seekers themselves, which can be a plus- if the job seeker has paid for membership to Ladders, they are obviously serious about entertaining new job options and will/should be more likely to return your message.There is also no limit to the amount of resumes you can contact, which is also a huge plus. However, in the end, Ladders is simply so much smaller than our other 2 databases of Monster and Indeed, so it makes sense to check that your city has enough resumes on there before investing too much time searching their database.
Monster: There are several different resume search packages available. It starts at $375 to search the database for 7 days. You’re allotted 100 total resume views, which gives you a candidate’s contact information. If you want to search for 30 days, it is $575 with 100 resume views, and 3 months is $1175 with 300 resume views. Though the 3 month discount is significant, the 300 resume views is a bit limiting.They do also have resume view options in their value plans, which combine resume views with job slots, and seems to be their best pricing options; however, the pricing is by the month and still expensive, and you need to sign a 3 month contract. One option is $249/month for 3 job slots and 100 candidate emails, and the other is $399/month for 5 job slots and 150 candidate emails.
What Do Small Business Owners Think About These Job Boards?
When we interviewed small business owners about what places to advertise a job was their favorite, the response was overwhelmingly in favor of Indeed.com:
5 out of 6 businesses said they prefer to use Indeed.com
Many said they paid less yet found more qualified candidates on Indeed compared to other job board websites.
Many also cited fast response times: They receive applications within an hour of posting their ad on Indeed.
A few users mentioned Indeed’s back-end tools, including templated responses for candidates (rejected, interviewed, hired, etc.) and screening questions, which make it a lot like an applicant tracking system.
Other Job Posting Website Options
Here is a list of other great job posting websites from around the web; we also have an all-encompassing list of our top 59 job posting sites if you want to see more options or look into niche or industry-specific job boards.
