Jemily shippers can get really annoying with wanting it to be canon because it's "positive representation" as if they aren't a copy paste of every single lesbian ship on tv (skinny, white, blonde/dark hair). Not to mention JJ is married plus supposedly in love with Spencer. Positive representation would not be the bully who emotionally cheats on her husband and "the man she's always loved."
tbh!! i mean not that they'd ever actually do it askjdhlgkj but like.. its so toxic and just perpetuates so many gross stereotypes.. "any representation is good representation" ok but not if i hate it aksjdhlfgkaj

Obsessed with the fact that will is still almost impossible to understand

okay so i'm thinking post!prison reid and reader break up bc he's not ready to be in a relationship after everything that happened in prison. they just don't get back together bc when spence is finally ready it's been a while and they both think it's too late and no one makes a move and they remain as friends UNTIL jj's love confession brings some feelings back onto the surface - reader finds out about it and (cue jeid and their weird, longing glances🥲) has a whole it's all really over moment and then there's distance between her and spencer until there's a confrontation about it and BAM a love confession and second chances😁😁
THIS IS SUCH A MESS but i hope you get my point</33
Um yeah so, absolutely. Some angst for you indeed. I love a convoluted and angsty fight, especially whenever someone is arguing in circles with someone else because they're both just so passionate but angry, anyways, heheh, enjoy!!
WC: 1.5k
TW: Arguing, mentions of violence, mentions of prison, mentions of guns, honestly if you watched CM then that is your TW.
“I just want to know why you’ve been so distant lately. I mean, this is the first time I’m speaking with you one on one in over a week, and it’s because I manage to catch you in the office at nine fucking pm Y/n.”
"So what do you want me to say, Spence? What could I possibly have to say to you? I'm pretty sure Jennifer said everything there is to say."
This caused Spencer to lose all of the oxygen in his body. It froze up. You weren’t supposed to know what JJ had said, no one was supposed to know what JJ had said.
You and Spencer were in the bullpen of the BAU. Luckily for both of you, since it was so late, no one else was there. Neither of you were extremely public when it came to your relationship, which meant neither of you would have chosen to have this conversation fight in a public place, but no one else was around.
I want you to say something you're afraid to say. Something you'd never tell anybody. And you better make it good. Cause if it's not, it's going to be the last thing you ever say. What's it gonna be?
“How did you know about that?” He whispered.
“JJ asked Garcia to go through the footage, apparently she wanted to make sure no one could ever access the audio from it.”
"Y/n I--" Spencer closed his eyes, his jaw set. He didn’t even know what to say at this point. You had both clearly made up your minds about this, yet neither of you wanted to see the carnage, the outcome of it all. So, instead, you chose to stand in the middle of the bullpen, fighting against one another.
Fighting for one another.
"I just don't understand why you're so upset about this."
“Spencer–you didn’t even tell me about it, I had to find out about it from Penelope, and who knows who else she told. You were afraid to tell me, yet that giant genius brain of yours can’t, oh I don't know, comprehend just a teeny tiny little bit why this makes me upset?" For the millionth time this evening, you scoffed.
Something you would never say aloud, not even to your partner. Your deepest, darkest secret. Impress me, or I'll kill him.
"Y/n--"
Spence, I've always loved you. I was just too scared to say it before, and now things are really just too complicated to say it now. I'm sorry, but you should know.
"Fuck Spencer I have been in love with you since I first fucking joined this team." You gasped out. The air around your head got thinner and felt dizzying like you were floating through the air now that this was off your chest. "And I loved you when you asked me on a date. I loved you through Emily's death. I loved you when you asked me to move in with you. I loved you through when Morgan left the team. I loved you through Hotch leaving. I loved you through fucking Cat Adams. I loved you even after I came home one night and you were making out with her against our fucking door. I loved you through every single case and every single flaw. I loved you when you fucking relapsed a few years ago. I even loved you when you went MIA for weeks and then found out you were in a fucking Prison. And I still fucking love you now. But, instead of being together, you asked for a break."
"That's not fair..." He whispered.
"What? Respecting you and your boundaries? Knowing that you needed time to readjust after you had been released, and believing in your promise that once you felt ready to try a relationship again you'd come to me and talk to me about it? And then watching as you fall for JJ all fucking over again? With your stupid fucking glances. This isn't a goddamn tv show Reid, I can see when you both stare at one another across the room, I can see it."
"We don't.."
"You do. You both do. And then, you tell me that Jennifer fucking Jareau is willing to make her last words the fact that she has always loved you and has always been in love with you, and you---" Your voice froze, the sound cutting out. You looked straight at Spencer, not caring about the tears running down your cheeks. You watched as his hand twitched up. When the two of you were dating, Spencer used to wipe away every single of your tears. But now he wouldn't even lift his hand.
"I--what."
You took another breath, trying to calm down, and really think through your words. "This woman who has been your best friend for over a decade just fucking confessed her love for you, in a life-or-death situation, and you're telling me, that she just fucking made it up, pulled it out of her ass, or at least is telling you that she did and now the two of you are going to act like everything is normal and okay?"
"Y/n..."
"You were in love with her for years Spencer. And now, all of a sudden she confesses her love to you, and that changes nothing?"
"No, Y/n, it doesn't. It changes nothing. Does it hurt a bit? Yes. Does it change the fact that I love you? No." Spencer was trying to keep his voice level, hoping you'll continue to match his volume since he didn't want anyone to potentially stumble by and hear your argument. His hand reached for your wrist, but you couldn't bear to feel his skin against yours.
This caused you to let out a water laugh, tears sliding into your mouth, ugly but pouring down your cheeks. A waterfall of grief in all of its rawest forms.
"You still love me."
"Why-Why is that funny."
"I have been waiting to hear those words since you walked out of that fucking prison and the first time I hear it in years, it's because you're trying to justify loving someone else."
"That's not true."
Make it a million and one, you scoffed.
"I have loved you since the moment you first walked through those doors. You were in a pale blue pair of pants, and a black sweater--I remember it because Emily complimented the pants. I spend my whole life loving you and manage to never fully give you every single piece of love I have because there's simply not enough time in the world. I would kill for you. I would go to prison all over again if it meant you would be okay in this world." Spencer ran a hand through his hair, his voice strained. But his eyes never left yours. "Last week, when that unsub had his gun against your head, I fired before he even spoke, not because I assessed it was the right time or whatever fucking excuse I gave to Emily. I fired that bullet because if you died in front of me, I'd......The only thing I was thinking about the entire fucking time JJ and I were stuck in that room was how the fuck I was going to be able to tell you I love you one last time because I wasn't fucking smart enough to take my chance and say it to you every single day."
Your chest was heaving, but you didn't move towards him. It didn't feel right, it didn't feel real.
Spencer was able to take your hand in his, enclosing it between both of his, trying to get you to look at him. "I should have told you the moment I was ready to try a relationship again, but I thought you...I thought you had moved on because I wasn't worth waiting for."
This caused you to laugh again, eyes red from crying. "Don't fucking start with that shit Spencer.''
"I'm telling the god's honest truth."
"I waited for you throughout all of Prison. I waited for you through Maeve. I am still pathetically standing right fucking in front of you, waiting for you to hopefully realize that you still love me."
He kissed your hand. "And I don't deserve you at all for it."
"Do you still love her?"
"Y/n."
"Answer the question, Spencer. Or I'm done. I-I can't do this any longer, watching you....the way she looks at you just--"
Spencer pulled you into his arms, enclosing your body in his arms and kissing the side of your head. "I have always, and will always, love you Y/n Y/l/n. And I want to spend the rest of our lives proving to you that I would choose you, I want you, over and over again."
“That’s not an answer Spencer.” You whispered, rigid in his arms.
“I-I.” He closed his eyes. “I did. And I still do love her, but not like that. I haven’t been i-in love with her since the moment you walked through those doors.”
Spencer felt the weight of your head against his shoulder as you finally conceded and hugged him back, tightly. “Let's go home.” He muttered into your head, waiting patiently for you to hum in agreement.
Neither of you moved though. You both stood there, locked eternally in the other’s embrace, enjoying the peace you felt for the moment, even though tomorrow was a new day, where you would have to sort through how you really felt about all of this.
But tonight, you stood with your arms around your love, forever.

Where I never dared to stand
Tumblr media
» Pairing: purely Spencer Reid x fem!Reader [NO JEID whatsoever] » Wordcount: 4k » Warnings: JJ's POV (3rd person), based on Where I Stood by Missy Higgins, we're staying within the realms of canon with this one - this focuses on JJ's feelings and my own interpretations regarding those, spoilers mentioned for s12!Spencer and 13×01 300, heavy spoilers for 14×15 Truth or Dare, kind of for 15×02 Awakenings too (i used a part of the conversation between JJ and Reid about what happend in 14×15), reader is Garcia's college roommate & friend, no time line mentioned but first meeting of Spencer and Reader is said to happen somewhere after JJ married Will to mid s10 (so somewhere from s8×01 to about s10×12, reader and Spencer are together when s10×13 happens), no mentions of Maeve only a vague mention that the last years have been rough for Spencer), » A/N: multiple mentions about reader being a woman / female, use of she/her pronouns, no body description, no mentions of readers clothes --- pls take a look here for more info about my reader descriptions in general » IMPORTANT!!!: i just want to say that i hated the way the writers where forcing the climax of 14×15 through out the whole s14 both on the characters and us, and i hated just about everything about the whole thing in general tbh, (after making Will such a big part of JJ's life JEID was over and done with, i never liked them as a ship in general; just wait until i'll unleash my hate for JJ in the future (hate only regarding the way she is treating Spencer, otherwise i like her for the most part)).... the only reason this fic happened in the way it is, is because i lost track of my initial plan when i got inspiration from the song, but then i kind of got carried away while writing; i tried to capture and bring out JJ's inner conflicts, the guilt she feels about all of it etc
Tumblr media
Jennifer Jareau liked you from the moment she saw you, no doubt about it. There was something about you, that uplifted the whole room you were in; it was hard to not be in a good mood when you were around.
Penelope had brought you along for a girl's night one evening. You had been her dorm room-mate in college and fate brought you back into each other's lives, when it just so happened that you moved into the same building she was living in. From then on, you joined them for girl's night on most occasions and it was just a matter of time until Penelope invited you to a party where not only the girls would be attending, but also the rest of the BAU team. It so happened to be Penelope's birthday party.
Everyone could see the sparks fly when Spencer and you met each other then. One look at the both of you was enough to see it; that this was a once in a life time, soulmate kind of thing. The kind of love you could only find in movies or books, the stuff all the cheesy romance movies JJ liked to watch were made of.
Something had stirred in her heart when she saw the two of you interact at Penelope's birthday party; a small ache, something she couldn't quite place at the time. So without further thinking about it, she brushed it away, forgetting all about it in the following days. That is, until the next time she saw the two of you. Together.
It was at one of Rossi's dinner parties not too long after Spencer and you met. Everyone was already accounted for in Rossi's backyard, except for Spencer. The doorbell rang and Rossi went to open the door; when he got back a big smile was plastered on his face and he was wiggling his brows suggestively. After him, Spencer walked in. With you. Holding hands.
Then and there the ache found it's way back into her heart, a little more persistent then the last time. This time she knew in an instant what it had been.
Jealousy. She couldn't stand your hands on him.
At the realization she had felt dizzy. Had it been any later in the evening she probably could have blamed the dizziness on the wine. But the glass she held in her hand was her first and she had barely nipped on it. No, it was because she was jealous, and the guilt she felt at the same time collided with it and mixed into an even bigger ugly thing that almost swept her off her feet.
Here she was, standing next to her husband and the father of her child, feeling jealous over another woman holding hands with her friend; a friend who she knew once had a thing for her, a friend who she may have had a thing for herself at one point but never even had went on a date with - actively avoided it even, if you thought about it. A friend, who she shouldn't have any feelings for that would call for her to be jealous when he got romantically involved with someone else.
A friend, she instead should be nothing less than happy for, after all the shit he had to go through in his life. She should be happy, that he finally had something good in his life, something that made him smile, something that made him happy. All she wanted was for him to be happy.
Will had commented that Spencer and you looked good together, that you made a cute couple. No matter who much that jealous part of her hated it, she had to agree.
That night at Rossi's she drank a couple more glasses of wine to flush out her confusing emotions than she maybe should have. When someone said something, she successfully played it off as being able to let go for an evening since her mother was watching Henry for the whole weekend. Luckily Will was okay with it, and even was pampering her the next day when she had a bad case of hangover.
After a short time, when JJ had sorted out her feelings, she really was happy for Spencer. So incredibly happy for him; that he had found his person. His safe haven. His forever.
And everyone could see it. That the two of you were perfect for each other.
She didn't think she had seen him this happy since... Ever, actually. Life had never been exactly easy on Spencer, but the last years had been especially rough for him. You were his rock when Gideon died, were there for him when his mom got worse and additionally stayed with her when he had to leave for a case after he took her in – oh, how much Diana loved you. You were the only person except for Spencer who she would let come close when she had an episode and was chasing the nurses away he hired. After he had been arrested in Mexico you as good as moved into his place to help (the nurse with) Diana. Whenever JJ came to visit her with the boys, she was amazed by the way you cared for Diana, so patient and understanding and affectionate, and how she would let you take care of her.
When Spencer had to go on mandatory leave after prison and the whole shit-show with Cat, JJ watched as you broke down the walls he had build around his heart in those three months he was locked away. She watched as you crumbled them down until you reached him again and then you gave him a new ground to build on, a ground back in safety and trust and love.
You broke his walls down, like JJ would never have been able to. Sometimes she wasn't sure if she could stand the fact, she just knew she should.
Back then, all those years ago when Spencer had sat down next to her on the jet with the Red Skin's tickets in his hand and asked her to go, she was scared. She knew that now, had realized it when Spencer and Penelope had been abducted by Meadows and the Messiah, when Emily spoke with her in the restroom and JJ was going crazy with worry about her best friends. Before, it had never really clicked for her, that maybe that was why she had invited Penelope to come with them to the game. Because a little voice in the back of her head had been whispering to her telling her to run, to turn away from him. She was scared of what could be, of what others might say and think.
Scared of hurting Spencer.
Deep down, she knew even back then, that she wasn't right for him.
And then, a year later, she met Will and the more serious their relationship got, the more any feelings for Spencer became platonic in nature. And it was good the way it was: working with each other, being friends. Maybe even something like best friends. It was enough.
She was happy with Will. She loved Will. She couldn't imagine life without him. The what if's and could have been's about Spencer hadn't been on JJ's mind in a very, very long time. Never really gone if she had to be honest, but not at the forefront of her thoughts all the same.
Tumblr media
And since being honest was the keyword for today, here in this jewellery store forced with a gun pointing at her and Spencer and the other hostage, a rapid back and forth that could spiral more out of control with every passing second, the Truth she had to admit today, could change everything she had in her life.
"Truth." JJ swallowed after she said it and bit on the insides of her cheeks. Stand strong, show no fear; that was what she repeated in her head again and again, trying to fight of the raging panic that kept rising up in her chest ever since the guy had fired a warning shot in Spencer's direction just a moment ago.
"I want you to say something, you're afraid to say", the Unsub spat through gritted teeth. Saliva was pooling at the corners of his lips and the hand he was holding the gun in was shaking uncontrollably, “That you'd never tell anybody. And you better make it good!” He didn't take a step closer, he only shifted his weight from one foot to the other, but with the way he accentuated every word he was screaming with a movement of his hand, she felt like he was coming closer. Like he was placing the barrel of the gun closer to her body with every twitch, until he'd be able to press it right onto her sternum. “'Cause if it's not, it's gonna be the last thing you ever say!”
Her nostrils flared as she took a slow breath in, trying to calm her nerves enough to find an answer and to give him the answer without a waver in her voice.
“What's it gonna be?” This time when he shifted his weight, he did take a small step closer to her.
By the way her nose was aching and her eyes were burning she knew it would only be a matter of moments until the tears would fall. She blinked to keep the tears away a bit longer and avoiding eye contact with the Unsub, only looking at him for a second. When she answered, she cursed herself for how shaky her voice was. “There are only four people it trust in this world.”
“Boring”, he commented in a weird sing-sang before he pointed the weapon down and shot the Judge in the leg. The gun was immediately pointed back at JJ. “Next!”
The gunshot had drowned out the whimper she hadn't been able to hold back. And when the deadly attention was back on her, she immediately went back in to position - stand strong, show no fear. The second part almost wasn't manageable any more for her. “Uhm”, she let out, again racking her brain for an answer, something the would finally accept. What could she say? What was she willing to say?
“My, uhm.” The pained whimpers of the woman in front of her as she slowly slid down the cabinet distracted her, she wasn't sure if she was welcoming the distraction or not. JJ felt bad for even remotely feeling thankful that the woman was in pain. “My baby, I lost, I um-”, she looked around, first meeting the Unsubs gaze, then at a random point at the wall and back to him. The emotions bubbling up in her almost choked her and she had to clear her throat. She didn't want to tell him this, but she had to. “- wanted to name her Maggie.”
“BULL!”, he screamed and JJ jumped. “Come on, you can do better than that!” Again, waving the gun, closer and closer.
Spencer tried to get his attention and pull it away from her, calling out the Unsub's name. “Casey...!”
Now the gun was pointed at Spencers head. “SHUT UP!” And again with the uncontrolled waving and twitching. JJ felt like she couldn't breathe.
She jumped again when Casey suddenly was right in front of her, forcefully grabbing into the hair at the back of her head, pushing her down to her knees with the tight grip and possibly even pulling some strands out. “Okay, okay..”, she mumbled, whimpered. What could she say?
“Last chance! Something you'd never say aloud. Not even to your partner here.” For a moment he waved his gun at Spencer again. “Your deepest, darkest secret. Impress me, or I'll kill him.”
It was the first thing that came to her mind when the Unsub demanded this, and threatened Spencer's life. It was the only thing that fought its way through the panic. The panic that had clouded her mind for anything else but the need for survival. Hers. Spencers.
She couldn't hold back her tears any more. In a desperate attempt to catch Spencer's gaze, she darted her eyes to his direction. At the same time the guilt that was already coming over her and trying to pull her down, before she even said one word and it made her look away from him.
“COME ON!”
So she said it. Hoping, it would be enough to save their lives. Hoping, her fear of losing her best friend would stay just that. A fear. Hoping, that they would walk out of here alive and that nothing would change between them. That even after saying what she was about to say, they could go on like before, that they would be okay. Selfish as it was, JJ couldn't lose him. She just didn't know who she was without Spencer in her life. Her best friend, her confidant. Her fi-... She knew she should know it, that it made no sense to feel like this. But she couldn't help needing him.
With a shy look on her face, she turned to her friend, took a deep breath.
"Spence, uhm,” she started, shooting him a pained smile to ease his nerves and her own. And he looked at her, waiting for her to continue, with a sad but still vary and concentrated shimmer in his eyes. He was sitting weidly stiff and there was ovment in his shoulders but she wasn't able to focus on anything else than his face.
Or not, because JJ had to look away. She didn't think she could say this while directly looking at him. This was just too...
“I've always loved you", she admits, helplessly shrugging her shoulder as she said it. You meant more to me than anyone I loved before you, before Will.
It took Spencer a moment to understand, what she is saying. How she meant those three words, that they had said a lot of times to each other over the years, in a platonic way.
His eyes slightly widened when the words sink in. The true meaning behind them.
“And I wasjusttooscaredtosay it before.” Her words came out in a blur, almost undistinguishable. She exhaled and looked away, shook the hair out of her face with a quick motion of her head. And as she tried to bite back her tears, she scoffed. “And now, things are just”, the sob leaving her throat almost sounded like a laugh, “far too complicated to say it now.” I am married and have kids, my kids are your godsons. You have a girlfriend, the love of your life waiting for you at home. These are the things she didn't say, didn't need to say. Didn't want to say in front of everyone else in the room.
Maybe she did laugh. The situation was so absurd, so surreal. It almost didn't feel real if there wouldn't be this gun pointed at her.
With tears running down her face she forced herself to look at Spencer. “I'm sorry”, she breathed out. “But you should know.” In case I die here. In case you die here. I had to let you know.
He didn't give away what he was thinking or feeling, had closed off the expressions on his face after the initial shock. The whisper of a sad smile stretched his lips as an acknowledgement when she stopped talking.
The giggle the Unsub let out, made the bile rise into JJ's throat.
“Hot damn”, he laughed, switching between looking at her and Spencer. “That's what I'm talking about.”
Neither of them looked up at the man standing over them, caught in a silent conversation. Did I just destroy everything? - Don't worry. At least that was what she hoped he was saying with his eyes.
“Now those are some last words right there.” Could this guy please, please, please just stop waving the god damn gun around!?
For the fracture of a second, everything fell from JJ's shoulders. The guilt, the sorrow, the fear. She did it, her confessions had been enough. Worthy of saving them. Just when the muscles in her body relaxed, the gun was pointed back right in to her face, mere inches away. “But not good enough to safe your life!” Spit landed on her face.
JJ readied herself, even with the immense fear shooting through her whole body so harsh her body felt numb. The hole of the barrel drew her eyes to it, hypnotized her. For some reason, she started a countdown in her head.
Three, two – BANG!
Casey's legs gave out and he grunted as his weapon fell out of his hand and he helds his stomach. Then, he collapsed, his dead-weight body falling into the space between her and Spencer. Her brain had problems catching up after already checking out, after making some kind of peace with her immediate death.
She looked from the dead body, to Spencer and the gun in his hand, too stunned to ask or think about how he had managed to free his hands and where the gun came from.
Tumblr media
They didn't speak a word to each other after their team burst in, there neither had been the time nor a fitting occasion to talk. They didn't speak until some time later in the evening, after the team made it back, just in time to get cleaned up and celebrate David's & Krystall's marriage.
When they finally shared some words when they both headed to the bar to get something to drink, they didn't talk long.
JJ was nervous. A whole lot of new what if's regarding Spencer were now on her mind. What if he hates me now? What if he wants nothing to do with me any more? What if he leaves me? She hated herself for being so selfish when the last one crossed her mind. She had been prepared to take this secret with her to her grave. But she had needed to say some thing real, something that would not only get the Unsubs attention, but also Spencers. Only then could she have made sure to get a chance at getting them out of there. She was sorry for spilling her secret, for doing this to him and burdening him with it. But now it was out an she couldn't take it back.
“So I, uh, I didn't get a chance to... say it back there, but...”, she started before saying anything else about her confession, having to start the conversation at least somewhere. “Thank you... for saving my life.” She smiled at him.
“You're welcome.” He nodded his head, a small smile stretching in his lips as well. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah.” She laughed nervously. “So uh, Luke was right, two guns, huh? Since when have you been wearing an ankle holster?”
“Around the time I got out of prison”, Spencer smirked.
“Right.” JJ nodded, then quickly looked away, internally working herself up to get the next words out, the ones she so desperately wanted to ask him. “Look, uh, I... Are- are we, okay?” That was all she could hope for at this point. It was all she wanted. That they were okay.
He smiled at her reassuringly and nodded. “Of course.” His smile and the soft tone his voice held eased her nerves instantly.
She held back a sigh of relief and smiled. “Good.”
They fell silent as they wait, Spencer for his water and JJ for a glass of wine. She softly drummed the tips of her finger on the wood, before she turned around to find where you were standing. When your name fell from her lips Spencers eyes darted to you, not even having to search the room. Like a magnetic pull, something that just came natural to him, knowing where to find you. “She looks beautiful tonight.”
Spencer silently nods as his eyes roam your body, how the fabric of your outfit hugged itself around you. “Yeah”, he breathes out, almost inaudibly. “She is.”
The glass clinking as the drinks were served caught her attention and she turned to take hers into her hand. With her free hand she touched Spencers arm and squeezed lightly. Their gazes met and they shared a smile before she walked away.
Just when JJ got back to the table the music changed into a soft and slow tune. Will took the glass form her hand and pulled her away to dance with her. Happy, she leaned into him, and enjoyed the moment. Enjoyed being in his arms.
She couldn't help but look as Spencer and you found your way to other side of the dance floor. He pulled you so close to him, not even a sheet of paper would have had space between the both of you. He was smiling down at you as you were slowly swaying to the rhythm of the music together and you were smiling up at him just as bright. Lost in each others eyes. Every so often he would lift your intertwined hands from his chest up to plant a kiss to your knuckles, or he would brush the tip of his nose against yours before he stole a quick kiss from your lips. Not for one second losing the bright smile, that all but screamed that he was drunk on love.
Spencer was JJ's first love, and the first love is something special, something you can't just erase out of your heart as if it never had made it's home in there in the first place. He was a big piece of her heart and would always be. But she had never even dared to try and stand where you were standing now. By his side; as his partner, his equal. His other half. His forever.
Even if she wouldn't have Will and her two beautiful boys - and don't get me wrong, she wouldn't trade her life with her family for the world-, the way the two of you were clinging to each other right now, looking like you were deeply sunken into your own little universe where no one else existed; and so full of bliss and love for each other... There was no way she would destroy this, no way she would break you two apart.
There was nothing in the world that could break Spencer and you apart.
JJ couldn't hear what you were whispering about, she could only guess by the way you looked at each other and giggled occasionally. The longer you danced it seemed like you were melting into each other, merging your bodies and souls together to form one.
Emily's speech from earlier ringed in her ears then. Penelope says, that this was fate. That [their marriage] was in the stars. [They] are twin flames. Two souls, that are always meant to be together. […] The thing about twin flames is, that nothing can keep them apart.
It was similar to something she had heard Spencer himself say once: "There's an old Buddhist saying, that, when you meet your soulmate, […] the act to bring you together was 500 years in the making." She thought both descriptions were fitting for what you and Spencer had.
As she let her eyes linger on your swaying forms, she suddenly felt like she was intruding something personal and intimate, so she averted her gaze and turned her head away. She rested her cheek against her husbands chest as she faced the other way and closed her eyes. JJ hugged Will closer and as his own hold on her tightened he rested his chin on the crown of her head.
It wasn't fair that she loved Spencer. Because she loved Will and her two boys too. Her family had made her who she was. But so had Spencer.
It wasn't fair to anyone involved.
She had never meant to hurt him, never. She just wanted him to be happy. And you made him happy.
No matter who much she loves Spencer now, had loved him before and would continue to love him, she could never love him as much as you did; the woman who stood where JJ never even had dared to stand.

🎵 But if you close your eyes, does it almost feel like nothing changed at all? And if you close your eyes, does it almost feel like you’ve been here before? - Pompeii by Bastille
Hi can i request and spencer reader for scarlets concert please
# milestone celebrations
Hello lovely Anon! Kind of a rewrite of 15.04 Saturday I guess. Artistic liberties were taken in that the Jeid confession never happened (like we all wish it hadn’t). Also the way Spencer talks about Pompeii is actually how the lead singer of Bastille described the meaning of the song in an interview.
I am still taking song lyric requests for my milestone celebration 🎵

Spencer Reid was, for a lack of a better word, bored. Unfortunately for him, given his incredibly high IQ and his brain's need for constant stimulation, it was easy for him to feel this way.
For a long time now he’d felt like he was living a Groundhog Day. His life became a series of tedious events that seemed to recur over and over again in the exact same way.
His days started with coffee and the newspaper, whether he was at home or away on a case. He showered, towel dried his errant hair and dressed in some version of the same outfit everyday.
Then he went to work, taking the metro at the same time everyday he was in DC or jumping into one of the SUV’s, always in the back seat, if they were away.
The cases always seemed much the same as each other these days. People were being murdered, it was their jobs to stop the unsub.
Time and time again Spencer found himself in front of a map working the geographic profile or he was utilised if there was a lot of literature as he was the only one who could get through it fast enough.
He spoke to Garica over the phone, sometimes watched interrogations through the two-way glass, rarely conducted them. And when they had a suspect, he got on his Kevlar and piled into the SUV with the rest of the team.
Whether they stopped the unsub before it was too late or not meant very little to him these days.
And then he’d crawl into bed, sometimes his own, sometimes a random hotel bed in whatever town the team found themselves in. It didn’t much matter, they were all equally as lonely.
And Spencer was just bored of it all.
When he closed his eyes, it almost felt as if nothing had changed at all; like he’d been here before. The monotony of his days was getting him down. His impressive brain wasn’t being used to its full capacity and he felt it withering away inside of his skull.
He didn’t feel challenged in any aspect of his life. His job had grown stale and maybe if he had something else to keep his mind occupied it might be ok. But climbing into an empty bed was by far the most soul destroying part of this perpetual deja vu loop he’d ended up in.
How was he supposed to be optimistic when life kept giving him reasons not to be?
Along with the boredom, Spencer started spiralling into a vicious pit of misery. It’s not that he was necessarily depressed, but he certainly wasn’t happy.
He became snappy with the people he called his friends. He was easily irritable, quick to anger. Everyone had noticed. It didn't take a profiler to see Spencer wasn’t himself.
But much like they always did, they buried their heads in the sand, busy enough with their own lives so they didn’t have time to worry about the youngest member of their team. It was a pattern he’d grown used to, another mundane facet of Spencer’s life. They cared, he knew that, but maybe they didn’t care enough.
His days off were always the same too.
He spent the mornings with coffee and a newspaper, showered and dressed before leaving his apartment. The home he’d once loved, his fortress of solitude, had grown so impossibly lonely that he couldn’t bear to spend more time there than he had to.
Those four walls in which he’d lived for close to two decades now seemed hell bent on provoking him, reminding him how isolated he’d become.
So he went out, to coffee shops, bookstores and museums; always in that order. He hated the rut he’d found himself in but he couldn’t for the life of him snap himself out of it. As much as he hated it, repetition was something he was good at.
But something had to change. He had to find a way to banish the grey clouds that rolled over the hills, shrouding him in a constant darkness.
And that was how Spencer Reid ended up on his day office in a therapist's office.
His first three sessions went exactly the same, a constant theme in his life. His therapist would ask him what brought him here and what he hoped to achieve; in response Spencer would pretty much clam up instantly.
In their fourth session, things played out a little differently.
Doctor Santiago didn’t have her notebook on her lap when he entered her office like she had the other three times. Her hands were laced in her lap, her glasses pushed up on top of her head. Her expression was less amicable than usual.
“Spencer,” she spoke before he’d even gotten comfortable. “I don’t mean to sound callous, but is it really worth wasting your money and what precious free time you have, coming here when you aren’t going to talk about why you’re here?”
He looked at his shoes, one of which was tapping against the carpet, then he looked at his hands. He didn’t look back at Doctor Santiago when he spoke.
“I’ve been reading a lot about Mount Versuvius and Pompeii.” He drummed his fingers against his thigh in time with his foots rhythmic tapping,
“Ok…” Doctor Santiago frowned a little but hoped if she didn’t say too much so he would continue.
“All those people who were just going about their days, lost in their own vices and then boom, it’s all over just like that. Posed forever in time as the dust settles around them. Do you know that approximately sixteen thousand people died in Pompeii?” He glanced up at her, his own expression contorted in confusion.
“I didn’t know that.” The Doctor shook her head. “So you’ve been thinking about death?”
“No.” He rolled his lip between his teeth. “Although I suppose that would be the more obvious trail of thought. But once you get to know me you’ll realise my trails of thought are anything but obvious.”
“I’m not sure I understand where you’re going with this then.”
Spencer huffed out a breath, frustrated even though he was used to people never understanding him.
“I’ve been thinking about stasis.” He mused and he watched as his therapist's brow furrowed. “Just imagine it, how boring must it have been, emotionally speaking, in the aftermath? Just stuck in the same position for hundreds and hundreds of years.”
Doctor Santiago’s brow was furrowed so deeply her eyebrows were practically in her eye sockets.
“But they were dead.” She stated the obvious.
“Logically I know that. But for some reason I just can’t help thinking about it. I keep having imaginary conversations in my head as if I were one of those people. Stuck in some kind of like, tragic death pose and having a conversation with the other people also resided to the same fate.” He frowned himself now as he spoke it out loud.
It sounded even more ridiculous hearing himself say it. Was he really so bored that these were the kind of thoughts he spent his time nurturing?
The doctor leant forward with her knees on her elbows, it was her job to quickly make assumptions about the things her patients told her and to read between the lines.
“You feel like one of those people. Stuck in time while the rest of the world continues to move around you.” She stated it is a fact, didn’t ask.
Spencer winced a little at her summation but nodded nonetheless.
“People always see my IQ as a blessing, but actually a lot of the time it’s more like a curse. Boredom is so much easier for me to fall into, if my brain’s not being stimulated enough.” He ran his fingers over the crease in his slacks, hoping it would work to distract him from talking about himself.
“And you feel like you aren’t getting enough stimulation?” She narrowed her eyes on him.
“Not anymore. Not for a long time.” He agreed. “I love my job but it’s just not challenging me anymore. I feel like…let’s say the BAU is a city, like Pompeii. I used to love that city, but now it just feels like all the walls are tumbling down and I’ve been left covered in rubble, left in this monotonous death pose for all of eternity.”
God that sounds morbid and very over dramatic, what is wrong with me?
“You’re stuck in a rut.” Doctor Santiago didn’t seem perturbed, she’d probably heard a lot worse.
“Undoubtedly.” He agreed.
“You’re going to do something for me today.” She sat back in her chair, a smile toying at her lips which Spencer wasn’t sure he liked. “You’re going to go somewhere you wouldn’t ordinarily go, not a bookstore, not a museum. Somewhere new for Spencer Reid.”
“That’s all?” He frowned sceptically.
“No,” Santiago chuckled with a shake of her head. “I want you to have one conversation with someone you don’t know. Don’t talk about work, or your routine. Definitely don’t talk about Pompeii or death poses.”
“See, here’s the thing with that,” Spencer swallowed. “In case it wasn’t clear, I am exceptionally socially awkward. I can’t just talk to a stranger. How about I come up with some conversation topics and next week we can discuss them and then-”
“Spencer,” she cut him off. “Today. It’s time to break you out of your rut, ok?”
Goddamnit, why did I ever come here?
***
The park was just about the least Spencer Reid place to hang out that there was, aside from maybe the beach, and he felt inherently uncomfortable.
He was a middle aged man in a suit jacket and shirt, wandering a park on a Saturday afternoon, alone. He actually found himself willing his cell phone to ring and being called into work rather than go through with this.
One conversation with someone he didn’t know. It was at its core a simple enough task. At least it would be for most people, people unlike Spencer who didn’t feel paralysed at the thought of talking to strangers.
It was different at work, where part of his job was to talk to people all the time. He had some sort of authority in those situations, his presence was helping catch a killer. In the park he was out in the wild, thrown to the wolves. He was so far out of his comfort zone it made him feel nauseous.
But for the first time in months, he wasn’t bored. And maybe Doctor Santiago had been onto something.
He scanned the area as he meandered down the tree lined path that cut through the park, in search of someone who looked normal enough for him to strike up a conversation with. Most people weren’t alone, with their families, partners or kids or both. The only other people he noticed on their own didn’t look what Spencer would deem as normal.
He spent almost an hour wandering with the bright DC sunshine beaming down on him. Eventually he started to feel sweat gathering at the base of his neck and at his temples and ambled to the nearest bench.
He shucked off his jacket and rolled his shirt sleeves up to his elbows. Feeling dejected and slightly fed up, he pulled his book on Mount Vesuvius out of his satchel and started reading it for approximately the seventy-sixth time.
When Spencer was reading, his brain blocked off everything else that wasn’t directly on the pages in front of him. He couldn’t hear the sound of people chatting and laughing in the park, he could no longer feel the heat from the sun. He was lost somewhere in Pompeii.
It was because of this that he didn’t notice the large, fluffy mutt running directly at him, or hear its owner calling for him to stop. It wasn’t until he felt something heavy pressing against his knees and his book being snuffled out of the way by a wet nose, that he looked up from the pages.
The dog with its piercing blue eyes and a soft, fuzzy face stared at him, paws on either of Spencer’s knees and its tongue hanging dopily out its mouth. Spencer stared at the mutt for a moment or two, somewhat perplexed, before it dribbled on Spencer’s slacks and Spencer groaned in frustration.
“Gross,” He grumbled, giving the dog a soft push. “Get down.”
The dog dropped back to the grass, but continued staring at Spencer while he found a handkerchief in his satchel and wiped his pants.
“Beau! Beau, what are you doing?” A panted voice caused Spencer’s eyes to snap away from the dog and up to a woman running his way.
Spencer felt his chest tighten as he watched the grace with which you chased after the errant dog.
“I’m so sorry.” You fought to catch your breath as you stopped in front of him and the dog. “He’s so much faster than me.”
“He dribbles.” Spencer tucked the soiled handkerchief away.
“Yeah, dogs will do that.” You laughed, clipping the leash to the husky’s collar.
“I could have been allergic.” Spencer stood up from the bench.
“Allergic to dogs?” You cocked a curious eyebrow at him.
“Dog saliva. A study showed that dog saliva contains at least twelve different types of allergy-causing protein bands.” He told you, stuffing his hands in pockets.
“Right, odd thing to say to someone you just met, but sure.” You shook your head.
“It was reported that a seventy year old woman had a severe infection of bacterium called capnocytophaga canimorsus, which likely came from her Italian Greyhound’s saliva.” He continued despite himself.
“When was the last time you talked to an actual human being?” You pulled a face, patting Beau’s fuzzy head and causing him to mewl happily.
“I talk to human being’s all the time.” He frowned, not understanding the question.
“About dog saliva?”
“No.” He shook his head. “Never about dog saliva actually.”
“Maybe don’t make a habit of it, it's kinda weird.” Your lip started to slowly curl up into a small smile.
“Duly noted.” He shrugged awkwardly. “Does, uh…would you say this counted as a conversation?”
Your brows knitted together, almost immediately wiping the smile from your face.
“What would you class as a conversation?”
“An informal talk between two or more people, in which thoughts, feelings and ideas are expressed.” He quoted the dictionary definition of the term.
“Well, this seemed pretty informal. I shared my thoughts about you coming across as weird, as you shared your ideas about my dog’s saliva and my feelings towards it are discomfort. Seems like a conversation.”
“I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable, I’m sorry.” He sighed to himself. “My therapist wanted me to have one conversation with one person I don’t know today and I guess I achieved that so please, don’t feel like you need to stand here and humour me any longer.”
“I’m your homework?” The smile spread back to your lips.
“I mean, that makes it sound clinical.”
“This was kinda clinical.” You chuckled and Spencer’s heart felt lighter than air at that sound. “Why don’t we try again. Hi, I’m Y/N and this is my dog Beau.”
Beau barked happily at the sound of his name, his giant front paws tapping on the grass in excitement.
“Spencer.” He nodded with a tight lipped smile. “I’m sorry if I offended you or your dog.”
“Luckily for you, neither of us are very easily offended.” You smirked, sidling past him and sitting down on the bench.
Spencer faced you with a soft frown.
“What are you doing?”
“Sitting, isn’t that obvious?” You crossed one leg over the other and unclipped Beau’s leash again. “Off you go boy.”
Beau did as he was told and joyfully bounded away, but made sure to stay in your field of vision. Spencer looked between you and the husky as he started exploring trees with the use of his nose.
“You aren’t worried he won’t come back?”
“He’s very well trained. And besides, I have his favourite treats.” You patted your pocket.
“Fair enough.” Spencer nodded and reached down for his things. “Well it was nice to meet you I guess. Have a good day.”
“Where are you going?” You stopped him before he could walk away.
“I, uh, was going to leave you to it?” He cradled the book and his satchel under one arm.
“You said you needed to have a conversation, so I sat down so we could have one.” You chuckled again and it was quickly becoming Spencer’s favourite sound.
“Oh. Oh. Really? You want to have a conversation with me? After I talked about the bacteria in dog saliva?”
“Yeah, I don’t really understand it either. But you seem…” You trailed off, unable to find the right word.
“Lonely? Creepy? Pathetic?” He tried, again causing you to laugh.
“Oddly endearing.” You corrected him.
It wasn’t the worst thing he’d ever been called, and he’d take what he could get. He slid back down to the bench, ensuring to keep a comfortable amount of space between you and placed his bag and book in his lap.
“Uh, just as a forewarning, I am not very good at small talk.” Spencer raked one hand through his hair.
“Oh don’t worry, I already gathered that.” You glanced away from him towards Beau briefly before looking back at him. “So, can I ask why your therapist is making you have conversations with strangers?”
“I’m stuck in a rut, I suppose.” He confessed, finding it strange how easy it was to want to open up to you. “My job, my personal life; it’s the same thing day in and day out. I’m just a little bored of it all.”
“What do you do?”
“If it’s ok with you, I’d rather not talk about it. I’m trying not to focus all of my energy, all of my personality into what I do for a living.” He rolled his lip between his teeth.
“Ok.” You shrugged. “What are you reading?”
Spencer looked down at the hardback in his lap and turned it over to display the cover. He ran his fingers over it remembering Doctor Santiago’s specific instructions.
Definitely don’t talk about Pompeii or death poses.
“It’s about Pompeii and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.” He blurted out.
“Oh, just some light and cheery reading then.” You laughed and if you kept doing that Spencer may very well fall in love with you.
“It’s…meditative in a way.” He shrugged. “I was told
I shouldn’t talk about it.”
“Your therapist told you topics of conversation?” You raised an inquisitive eyebrow.
“More like she told me topics of conversations to avoid. Specifically, my thoughts on the boredom that must have been felt by these people trapped in these perpetual death poses after the eruption.” He mentally scalded himself as the words tumbled out his mouth. “Yet here I am, talking about it anyway.”
You glared at him, noting your dog nearby out of the corner of your eye, but focusing on Spencer. He drummed his fingers awkwardly on the book cover.
“Wow,” you inhaled sharply. “That’s gotta be one of the most depressing things I’ve ever heard.”
“Probably why I was advised not to talk about it.” He sighed.
“You’re a pretty dark dude.”
“In my line of work it’s hard not to be.” He shrugged, he’d already gone against one thing Santiago told him not to do, he may as well go for broke. “I’m an FBI Agent. A profiler. I use psychology to track down serial killers.”
Your expression didn’t change much, something which surprised him. You quickly glanced over at Beau again who was now making friends with a much smaller dog, before looking back at him.
“That’s the same thing day in and day out?” You frowned.
“Not physically but mentally I guess. I, uh, I’m pretty smart…no that’s not true, I’m a certified genius. And that means I can grow bored easily. I guess I need a higher level of stimulation than most people.” He shrugged, noticing the way your eyes started to sparkle.
“A higher level of stimulation, huh?” The smirk adorned on your lips and the way you spoke the word stimulation made his ears turn suddenly red.
“Fuck,” he mumbled, his mouth dry and he had to look away from you. “Mental stimulation. Jesus Christ.”
You smiled to yourself at his obvious embarrassment, enjoying the way you’d made him blush. You decided to change the subject, as much as you enjoyed it, you didn’t want to make him too uncomfortable.
“So, a certified genius?”
His eyes snapped back to you and he swallowed with a nod of his head.
“Yeah.”
“Well I can’t be very stimulating for you then? Mentally speaking of course.” You couldn’t help yourself.
As predicted his blush spread to his cheeks and neck and he fidgeted with his bag on his lap. What you didn’t know was that he was trying to conceal the fact your words were causing a bulge in his pants he desperately wanted to hide.
“Are you trying to fluster me?”
“Is it working?” Your eyes sparkled again.
“Very much so.” He confessed. “For the record I find you utterly stimulating. Mentally speaking of course.”
“Good to know.” You nodded, looking back across the park and spotting Beau staring at you. “Beau, heel!”
The large and playful dog immediately started in your direction, bounding delightedly towards his owner. When he reached you, he slumped down on the grass by your feet and you popped a treat in his waiting mouth.
“So usually after our walk I take Beau to a little cafe where they sell doggy cupcakes and I grab a coffee, unwind.” You pushed yourself to your feet and clipped Beau’s leash in place once again.
“Oh, ok.” Spencer nodded, tucking his book inside his bag. “Have a nice time.”
You narrowed your eyes on him, trying to ascertain if he was really this clueless or if it was just an act. You were quick to realise it was the former.
“It was an invitation, dummy.” You chuckled. “Do you want to come with me? I love my dog but he’s not exactly…stimulating.”
Spencer had to take a moment to compose himself before he stood as his legs trembled a little. He inhaled sharply and pushed himself up.
“You want me to join you?” As asked by way of clarification.
“Correct.”
“Even after I talked about Pompeii and death poses?”
“Even after that.” You nodded with a smile.
“You don’t have to invite me. I was only strictly required to have one conversation so I think you’re off the hook now.” He slung his satchel over his shoulder before stuffing his hands in his pockets.
“Are you really so naive that you don’t understand when a girl is asking you out?”
“You are?” His eyes widened dramatically.
“Yes!” You laughed. “Surely you’ve been asked out before?”
“No, never. I mean, I didn’t know you were asking me out so maybe I have and I didn’t realise it.”
“You are utterly precious, Spencer.” You shook your head. “Come on, let’s go. Unless you want to go back to your rut?”
“No, no. I am happy to be rut-less.” He nodded and the two of you, plus Beau, fell in step with one another.
He let you lead him through the park, stealing glances at you as he did so. He’d never felt more outside of his comfort zone before and it was exhilarating.
So many of his days had fallen away with nothing to show for them. Days upon days of the same, tedious tasks again and again. Nothing had changed for so long, every had felt the same, every time he closed his eyes.
But finally things had changed. Letting you into his life would bring with it a shake up of his previously monotonous routine.
He didn’t know it at the time, but his future would hold walks in the park whilst learning to enjoy the company of a dog. Random two am phone calls when you couldn’t sleep. Waking up next to your sleeping form, deep, meaningful debates in the middle of the night which would end up with lips silencing the other and body parts entwining.
He had to look forward to your surprise visits to his office with baked goods and coffee. Sending flower arrangements to your work just to say he was thinking of you. Unplanned weekend trips to New York or Baltimore or wherever the two of you ended up. Spur of the moment date nights and spontaneous adventures, just you, him and Beau.
But all of that was yet to come, the great unknown unfurling before him. All because he had one conversation with one person, and finally Spencer’s predictable life didn’t seem so predictable anymore.
Much like the citizens of Pompeii, who had to grow and adapt to their new city in the wake of the eruption that had destroyed so much, now it was his turn to embrace the new and uncharted.
And quite honestly, he’d never been more excited.
You glanced at him as you walked, a soft smile on your features and you boldly reached out and took hold of his hand in your free one.
Spencer felt his chest explode at your touch and he already knew he never wanted to let you go.
“So, tell me,” you asked as you strolled hand in hand. “Are you still bored, Spencer?”
He couldn’t help the chuckle that left his lips and he gave your hand a soft squeeze.
“I can honestly say, I’ve never been less bored in my entire life.” He sighed in content, slightly disbelieving how much his world could change just from a simple conversation.
Today was one kind of Groundhog Day he would happily repeat over and over for the rest of his life.

ENTROP-Y’S CRIMINAL MINDS FIC REC MASTERLIST
if you are the author of one of these incredible fics and want it removed from this list, just dm me!!
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ ⋆✦⋆ ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
winter in america by mutantmouse
a beautiful and unique character study of reid following emily’s death, but referencing things that happen in canon until that point. one of the best characterizations of reid, and of gideon that i’ve seen. please please please read this!!! cw: referenced suicide (no major character death), referenced past drug use
maps by hopeintheashes
set in season 13, reid is sick and jj (not jeid!) is trying her best to not let him fall apart during an incredibly difficult case. this is part of a fantastic 3 part series, and i recommend the entire thing, but this is my favorite segment. no content warnings outside of cm typical violence.
what if i never love again by someforeignband
one of my absolute favorite characterizations of reid. this functions as both a character study of reid in season 11 through the lens of unrequited love, and is wonderfully angsty. cw: drinking, referenced past drug use
between us by hellskitchenmurdock
reid’s time in prison and the toll it takes on the team told through text messages between garcia and morgan. i’m not usually a fan of text fics, but this is so subtle yet evocative and moving. cw: brief implied suicide
an excuse to get hurt by innerslytherin
reid’s is struggling after he’s kidnapped by tobias hankel, and morgan gets a front row seat to this when he sees spencer at a club. this captures spencer’s anger and bitterness, but also his hurt and fear in such an organic and genuine way. cw: drug use, sex
meals on wheels by ethelindi(eventide)
reid’s take on the toll his neuroses have on him, while trying to reconcile those aspects of his personality. short character study. though reid is autistic, i think this fic feels very accurate to how he would understand himself if he didn’t have/use that label. no content warnings.
some assembly required by deantherighteousman
this is a series where reid helps out with taking care of hank after morgan leaves the bau. one of my favorite characterizations of reid; i think it captures his flaws and how he processes emotions, especially considering the season. ***unfinished*** cw: discussions of sex and masturbation, panic attacks, mentions of depression, unhealthy relationships
touch therapy by @foggyblues-ralvez
id be shocked if anyone hadn’t read this yet, but it is the perfect balance of fluffy and angsty ralvez fic. cws: ptsd, panic attacks, cm typical violence
one for sorrow by butterbeerandbutterknives
this is set directly after emily’s death, and follows the teams grief, specifically spencer’s struggle with an eating disorder. this fic is heavy and can be a difficult read at times, but it’s beautifully written. major cw for eating disorders, discussions of weight and food. additional cw: implied alcoholism, referenced drug use, suicidal ideation
i will stay by @samuel-de-champagne-problems
beautifully captured spencer’s grief after gideons death in a way that feels raw and authentic, complete with much needed hurt/comfort. cw: referenced major character death
sleep in quiet comfort by thesunsethour
so so soft and captures such a sweet moment between reid and garcia in season 13. their friendship is everything and this is so wholesome and warm. cw: ptsd
no better version of me i could pretend to be tonight by canon
14x09 post ep where the case about drug addicts reminds emily of reid, and they have a much needed discussion about his own experience with addiction. so soft and emotional, such an underrated friendship. cw: drug use
some things cosmic by dynazty
soft hurt/comfort where reid goes to morgan after having a nightmare. includes poetry and the wholesome moment we need after this depressing ass rec list. i honestly recommend all of this authors cm stuff on ao3!! no content warnings
tranquillement by @spencerreidat3am
reader insert about spencer’s first night home from prison. heartbreaking and smutty, a general emotional roller coaster but a fantastic read nevertheless. i think it’s easy to get post-prison reid wrong, but this fic got it so right. cw: ptsd, sex
take my hand by @hogwartstoalexandria
set during 11x21, very needed scene between hotch and reid after reid’s interaction with antonia slade, taking into account his issues with germs and neurodivergence. i think some portrayals of reid as blatantly autistic (as opposed to a more implied approach) can infantilize him but i think this is incredibly well done. hurt/comfort. cw: germaphobia, panic attack/meltdown, self harm (as part of meltdown)
part of the job by ssascropsik
post episode 5x10, emily’s reaction/how she copes with what she had to do to make headway with carl arnold. cw: self loathing, drinking to cope
minimal loss by thesacrificalpancake
post episode 4x03 minimal loss, detailing how everyone on the team reacts but focusing on emily and how she handles trauma. this episode is one of my favorites but i think people often mischaracterize emily (and reid, honestly), but this feels so true to her character (even if it’s hotchniss and i am a firm lesbian emily truther). cw: cm typical violence
how to disappear by illustratedangel
reader insert hurt/comfort that shows reid struggling after prison, and slowly starting to recover. this is so tender and gentle. cw: ptsd, sex
hope by unmitigatedsuperiority

moreid fic set during 5x10. the characterization of both reid and morgan is spot on, and this is so soft. i also so so appreciate how this includes reid’s knee injury! so many fics set in season 5 forgo mentioning it altogether and have reid doing things that he would not be able to. cw: references to the events of 5x09

another fic about angsty early season 12 reid, but this time it’s from emily’s perspective as she tries to navigate her romantic feelings towards him while he falls apart. this diverges from canon and he doesn’t go to prison. honestly, as someone who thinks emily and reid are both gay, this spemily fic is one of the best cm fics i’ve ever read. once again everything by this author is incredible, but this fic in particular is dark and emotional and great. cw: minor character death, grief, depression, drug use, alcoholism, sex, suicidal ideation
angels by dilaudiddreams
the most poetic, beautifully written reid whump i’ve read thus far. reid struggles with his addiction but it gets much, much darker. the characterization of reid is heartbreaking and compelling, and morgan is spot on as well. ***unfinished*** major cw for drug use and addiction, torture, and violence. additional cw for referenced incest, csa, and child abuse.
casimir pulaski day by highway58
this fic diverges from canon and follows reid as he struggles with cancer. this is so detailed and the writing is so heartbreaking and powerful, this fic has made me emotional multiple times. it is a very heavy read, but i cannot recommend it enough. ***ongoing*** cw: cancer, hospitals, graphic medical stuff, depression, drug addiction
missing pieces of sleep by highway58, masterworlds
obviously i don’t read much hotchreid, but this fic is too good not to include. follows reid after he gets out of prison and hotch as get gets out of witness protection, as they come together again. ***ongoing*** cw: ptsd, illness, vomiting, panic attacks, brief referenced suicide
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ ⋆✦⋆ ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
and that concludes this (very long) list for now!! if anyone knows the tumblr of anyone i didn’t tag, let me know so i can tag them. i’ll probably make shorter fic rec lists every couple of months so as to make this less daunting for anyone who might see it but if you’re reading this, i appreciate you sticking around and hope you check out some of these wonderful authors/fics <3

Hello!!If you were part of the writers on criminal minds, what would you have done differently when it came to the romantic relationships of it all and whats your opinion on some of the ships?Which would you erase and which are your favorites?I'm willing to read as much details and analysis you are willing to give on this lmao😂I loved the analysis on Reids sexual evolution season by season and am really curious on what you think on the ships like Reid and JJ,Reid Lila,Reid and Maeve,Reid and Elle😂Personally I would have created a diffrent character as a love interest for him all together.
This is practically an essay so I'm just going to apologise in advance of this. I'm not going to say I'd change much because the end product we got is my favorite show for a reason but yes, here is me talking about all the romantic relationships I can think of in CM and my opinions on them!
(Spoilers for season 1-15 of CM, CME, and season 8 of NCIS - yeah that's how long this post is).
Tumblr media
Reid Ships
I think Reid ships are the ones most people have issues with in Criminal Minds so I'm going to start here with personal headcanons and my personal highlights. It's going to become clear that my biggest pet peeve in CM is when the writers want to give the characters a love interest and then just gender-bend their personalities, so let's start with Maeve and Spencer.
I've already talked at length in other posts about how I think the Maeve/ Zugzwang plotline wasn't my favorite. It was some amazing acting from MGG and Beth Reisgraf, but personally, I think it suffered from "serialized cop drama" plot line status. This show airs week after week with another case to solve in 45 minutes and they don't have the time or the format to pause through moments that in a standard drama would be very impactful.
To go on a slight tangent, that is partially why the relationships between the main cast are usually the only ones developed very well over extended arcs (I'll return to this when I talk about Jeid).
So, when you're trying to have an emotionally resonant moment, and you only have a handful of cold opens and one full episode to do it, you're going to have to make the characters motivations, personalities and back stories mesh in a way that makes you think: "holy shit they're perfect together."
Maeve and Spencer aren't that. I hate to use this term, but Maeve is like a manic pixie dream girl for Spencer? She's written as if she's too good to be true, which is why we're supposed to feel so sad when she dies. But they also tried to make her a complex character and didn't have the time to really do it, which is why we're given a back story that makes no fucking sense (as Spencer's DOCTOR no less) and some hints that she probably doesn't feel the same way as Spencer does for her (fiancé she never told him about etc.)
When Spencer's character starts evolving in later seasons to being more than just a genius, but a genius with trauma, they pull a similar stunt with Cat Adams/ Max
The show runner Erica Messer did mention that the Maeve plotline was always designed to be a three act plot: she's introduced, Spencer is in love with her, she dies. But, in my opinion, we didn't get enough of an introduction to her for me to feel really all that bad about it? They banked a lot on the audiences attachment to Reid, so when you feel bad about Maeve's death it's all about Reid - why do bad things keep happening to HIM, I wonder how HE will get through it - when she is the one who was just murdered. Those kind of dynamics always kind of throw me in romantic relationships.
I'm going to be clear, I do not ship Cat Adams and Reid either and I have pretty much no opinion on Max other than that if she were real I'd probably avoid her (teachers who hate teaching and blame the kids are weird! And I'm a teacher so I can say that I think lol).
Cat Adams is girl-Reid if he had a villain arc. She's 100% again there to push Reid's character development, and she's used as an action rather than a character. Max is the same. In season 15, with the entire team at a crossroads, they have to allow Reid two outs: one villain arc where he gives into his lust for Cat Adams, and one happy ending where he gets to start something with someone who is totally normal and a way out of the BAU the way Savannah was for Morgan. But it can't be as easy for Reid, and that's why we're left with the Cat/Max dilemma because he is really attracted to Cat, despite the fact that she was threatening to end the lives of members of Max's family.
By the end of the show, Reid had been actively on the team the most out of all the cast members (bar Penelope, but she wasn't out on cases first hand, so there's not as much emotional baggage there for her). He can't have an easy exit, so I kind of view this "love triangle" bullshit as a metaphor for Spencer choosing a normal life vs a continuation with the BAU.
Which is why I think that if CME continues, I think we're unlikely to see or hear from Max, because that means he's picked the BAU.
Okay now, not to sound like a broken record but, Jeid:
Before Truth or Dare, there is one single suggestion of Jeid being a possibility and it's a suggestion, from Gideon of all people, in season 1. It is CRAZY to me that after thirteen seasons they just decided to develop that one plotline again because jesus CHRIST.
My main problem with Jeid is that, actually, I think it had a lot of potential. Like I said, serialized dramas only have time to develop relationships between their main cast members, which is why we end up with a pseudo-found-family vibe no matter who happens to be on the team at any given point. A lot of similar dramas go down the route of coworker/ team mate relationships (think Ziva and DiNozzo in NCIS or Mulder and Scully in The X Files).
There was absolutely the potential for an opposites attract relationship with Jeid, but I think the minute they abandoned that after that small dialogue we got something WAY FUCKING BETTER. Their friendship is entirely underrated, Spencer regularly babysits her kid, she comforts him after Emily "dies," enough for them to have arguments about it after the fact. Your honor they are SIBLINGS. That is UNCLE SPENCER. Not your future step-dad.
When they decided to commit to JJ and Will, they should've stuck to it, and as a big fan of the Season 7 finale + Hit and Run it is very shitty seeing them trying to retcon both of these characters amazing developments and growth over 14 seasons and have them regress to shit tier versions of their Season 1 selves.
"But Kacie, there must be some Spencer relationships you like," I hear you ask. And there ARE:
Lila Archer is a great foil for Spencer. She has a happy, glamorous life until their paths cross, and then we can assume from dialogue in season 6 that she continues having a pretty fucking glamorous life after everything goes down. I don't think Spencer works best with characters that are traumatised or overly smart the way he is, because he needs something to return to after the cases that switch off that part of him, to help him forget the horrifying shit he sees on the job.
So Lila Archer was kind of a great love interest.
Another one that I'm so annoyed they didn't explore more is Austin. She's the bartender in the Season 4 Episode "52 Pickup" that is charmed by Spencer's card tricks. She is never mentioned again, but they had a great chemistry, she was quick on her feet and managed to spot the unsub first, and she was a really great foil for Spencer as well; it was a street smarts/ book smarts kind of dynamic. If they'd carried that character forward and had her reappear a few times, it could've been a great romantic plot.
I will just quickly note that the reason we most likely didn't see many romantic plots for Reid was because Matthew Gray Gubler didn't like the idea of giving him a romantic plotline, stating that there were so many more interesting things to do with the character - and he's right!
I'm a fanfiction writer, and the allure of characters like Spencer Reid is they are mostly romantic clean slates - you can write whatever you want for them within reason without having to disregard canon relationships. This is why similarly, Steve Harrington, Eddie Munson, Venom, and young "Marauders" fanfictions are pretty popular here imo too - canon compliance isn't disregarded, the reader is just written in. So I don't think I'd change a thing for Spencer to be honest (apart from maybe not kill Maeve off and give her the actual villain arc, but I say that so regularly I'm beginning to sound like a broken record).
Also I'll just quickly mention Elle because you mentioned her - outside of fanfiction there are literally zero hints (imo) of a thing between Elle and Reid lmao there's more of a case to be made for Elle and Morgan, but for some reason, writers and fans alike don't like committing to giving Morgan more than simply platonic connections. THEY SHOULD!! THE MAN IS SEXY AS HELL!!!!!!! GIVE ME A MORGAN WHO IS REGULARLY FUCKING!
Hotchner Ships
Speaking of characters that have a long time where they are single! Aaron Hotchner is another fandom favorite to write self-insert fanfiction for, because of the gap between Haley Hotchner's death in 100, and the introduction of Beth in season 7.
In general, I like the way Hotch's relationships play out on screen. Let's start with Haley:
You can tell that the writers really enjoyed the dynamic between work Hotch and home Hotch, because they played on it so much across the four first seasons. The very first time he is introduced he's in his bedroom picking out baby names with his childhood sweetheart, so any further scenes of him being more stern or serious are always in contrast with that introduction. It's a cold open to his character that immediately let's you know that there is more going on in his world than just the BAU, and he is the only member of the season one team that has that.
Then, they really LOVE taking that shit away from him. I'm not going to go into detail here about how fucking wack the time line is for Criminal Minds, but it is stupid and that's important here because:
I think Haley's reasons for divorcing Hotch are stupid.
She says that she married a man who was a prosecutor, not a man that was an FBI Profiler but realistically by the time of their divorce, he'd been in the BAU like 10 years. They rely more on the audiences sense of time (we're two years in, so they've all been on the team two years etc) to push this character motivation off. And for a while it makes sense that they were separated, until the events of 100. But also: in sickness and in health, for better and for worse, you literally signed up for whatever the FUCK happened, that's what a marriage vow IS.
Now I'm a sucker for the angst of 100,but would it not have felt 10x more emotionally disgusting if Hotch and Haley were talking about reuniting? If they had never celebrated in the first place, and had just finished working through their marital issues when Foyet comes back into their lives and Haley has to be whisked away again? Yes. Yes it would.
There's an episode in season 9 that really pisses me off, and it's the one that Hotch passes out from an old tear in his Foyet stab wounds and he goes into surgery and talks with Haley and Foyet in heaven while watching the rest of his life after the events of 100 on a cinema screen. It's cliché and also has no pay-off because it doesn't change the way he views his relationships after that, and it's not like he's at a crossroads at that point, so it means nothing to the audience except as a remembrance of an issue and an episode so far in the past that it feels like flogging a dead horse. They do this twice, btw, and this is the more successful use of this plot (the first time they do it to Elle in Season 1/2 during the events of The Wicker King - she talks to the father we didn't even know was dead, who died decades ago in an unrelated time. Not to keep bringing NCIS up, but I think the only time I've seen it done well is whenever Gibbs kept seeing Mike Franks in the diner scenes). They do not out enough effort into these plots to achieve the emotional resonance they are aiming for in my personal opinion.
I'm not entirely sure, but I think this could've been the beginning of the era where Gibson was having a lot of issues with the cast, because it just felt like they didn't want to use him in the on-location shoots for a while lmao. Anyway, all that to say, Haley should've stayed dead, and not come back as a stupid phantom.
After the dust has settled on Haley and Hotchner though, we get Hotchner and Beth:
This is going to be a short note, because I actually really like the relationship between these two characters. They have the very slow cold-open build up that Maeve and Spencer get, but there's a lot more and a lot less to Beth's character that makes the dynamic between them really enjoyable to watch.
We're once again treated to the out-of-work Hotchner that had been missing since Season 4 (his in between scenes with Jack are cute but there's always the tragedy hanging over them). Beth is running a marathon in honor of her dad, Hotch is doing something similar for the FBI Triathalon, they train together the tension builds, they start dating. Now obviously it wasn't the purpose or aim of this character introduction to build to tragedy, and I think they just genuinely wanted to show a happy Hotchner again, but its still a valid criticism of the weird voyeuristic Maeve build-up that they literally succeeded a more sympathetic and audience engaging late minor-recurring-character EARLIER THAN THE MAEVE ARC.
I'll shut up now, but yeah, I like Hotch and Beth.
Penelope Ships
This post is getting ridiculously long, so much so that I'm even contemplating adding a fucking word count, but let's continue and dive in to my next issue.
Penelope's romantic life is used as a punch-line for the first 11 seasons and I HATE it.
There is no easy short to say this, but I despise Kevin. He is stupid, and a joke, and I hate him and I am SO HAPPY that she dumped him. They made her really pathetic about him for a few episodes, and then he kept fucking coming back too which was even worse.
Kevin is literally male Garcia but with all the worst attributes. He's clingy, and needy, and he may be smart but in a very "incel" way. In my opinion, Kevin is less a fully fledged character and more a joke line/ convenient plot point for when they need more tech analyst work. The best moment in the Kevin/Penelope arc is during the The Gathering, where she really lays into him and tells him off for being jealous of her ukelele instructor AFTER THEY'D BROKEN UP.
Penelope deserved so much better than what they gave her romantically in these seasons. First, her date tried to kill her, her boyfriend was a joke, etc. She never gets the serious romantic plotline that her other teammates do (Hotch/Haley, Spencer/Maeve, Derek/Savannah, JJ/Will, Emily/being a big old lesbian etc). Penelope is really great levity for the rest of the cast because she is happy and she is positive and she is unapologetic in her positivity. It's annoying that they don't let her be more than that in the romantic relationships they give he during these seasons.
Then Luke Alvez is introduced and there is some hope! Galvez truther's please, rise they are so adorable.
Anyone involved in the writing of CME - what the hell was that? Now I haven't seen it myself, to be completely fair, but I know enough to ask the question - really what the HELL was that?
Tl;dr Penelope's sexuality and romantic relationships should not be used as punchlines.
The Aversion to Homosexuality
This is just a general note, but the writers originally did plan to have Emily Prentiss be gay - amazing, great, it's a completely different time now, please let her have a gay awakening soon. It was obviously scrapped early in, but there's a lot of subtext that can be interpreted in that way.
They did commit with Tara, and she gets a gf in CME, so I want to see some Temily in the future if we do get more CM seasons.
So just so you know, everytime I mention Emily flirting with someone in my fic, assume it's a woman if you aren't already, lmao.
(They did also talk about making Reid bisexual as well, which would've also been great, but again, I don't think we're ever getting any more romantic plotlines from Reid).
Other Characters
Here's just a rating and short mention for all the other character couples I can think of in Criminal Minds, because this is already thesis length lmao:
Morgan + Savannah - 8.5/10, no notes, really just the gender bent love interest but done right.
Alex Blake + Husband - 7/10, solid couple, very much enjoyed when they started bringing in the people in established relationships again lmao.
Kate Callahan + Husband - 5/10, same as above but I wasn't as attached to her character rip.
Matt + Kirsty - 10/10 really no notes, I too would be called a breeder if I managed to lock that man down, damn.
Rossi + His 3 Ex-Wives - Make total sense for his character, very enjoyable to me, love that he has a nice moment with most of them again throughout the series, not going to rate it lol.
Rossi + Strauss - 3.5/10 - Last ditch attempt to make Strauss a sympathetic character, but I felt more attached to her growth after being called out by Derek rather than the effect that her death had on Rossi.
Gideon + the friend of his who is murdered by that Frank guy at the end of season 2 - stupid, worst way to go out, made no sense for the character, but I know Mandy Patinkin wanted OUT and honestly, anything for you Inigo Montoya.
Why I think Criminal Minds is Better Without Romance
Generally, I really do agree with Matthew Gray Gubler when he said that there were more interesting things to explore with these characters than their romantic attachments. It does frustrate me to no end that they focused on some of them more than others, and that post Henry, most of JJ's big moments are tied to motherhood and being a mother/ wife, but that change in her character is still amazing and leads her to a lot of growth (not mentioning Truth or Dare again, sorry it doesn't exist at this point in the post)(also I didn't have much time to mention Will and JJ, but I do love them).
Their best moments are the ones we get of them together as a team, saving people and putting away murderers for life, it's a perfect Found Family!!!
Also, no more romance = Spencer Reid can be mine. In conclusion, I am delusional. Thank you for reading this far.

Love Affairs - SR x Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: You, Spencer, and JJ are held hostage in a jewelery store by an Unsub. You hear what JJ has to confess to Spencer in a truth-or-dare game played between the Unsub and JJ.
T/Ws: Normal CM stuff, spoilers for S14 E15, angst, jeid love confession, mentions of a miscarriage, mentions of prison
A/N: This isn't one of my first fics i've written but it is one of my first i've publicly released so if there is any errors I apologize in advance. Also this is a 3 part fic but this is just a short version of the 3 parts. I should warn there's no fluff for this so if your looking for angsty fluff or just fluff then you'll probably have to look the other direction. Let me know if you'd like me to post any more fics and I'll gladly take suggestions!
-----------------------------
Hours had passed although it felt like forever. Melissa was taping them to wherever they could be restrained at. The tape on your wrists felt uncomfortable but it was gonna be like this for the next couple hours or so. There wasn't much hope that they were getting out any time soon.
"Dont worry.. we're gonna be okay." Spencer whispered. Thay felt reassuring but he knew deep down that he didn't know that. Anything could happen beyond this point.
"Hurry up. Get over here!" Melissa flinched. Luckily, she had just finished up so she rushed to Casey as quick as she could.
"This is all your fault," Casey said while gesturing his head around the room, obviously referencing the intense hostage situation they were in the middle of. "I told you. I told you it was an accident, that Mark was the one who forced me to do it. But you wouldn't listen."
"You just sat there.. looking all smug and superior. You think your so much better than me but your not. You're just as capable of hurting someone as anybody is." Melissa looked ashamed. It wasn't until Casey dropped the hostage and pointed his gun at Melissa. He handed the gun he gave to Melissa back, saying;
"Well, here it is, Judge. Your moment of truth." She grabbed the weapon in hesitation but she knew it was her or the gun. The agents watched the situation like a movie, calculating their safest way out of this. Of course just because it's safe, doesn't make it easy.
"Shoot her. Or I'll kill your daughter." Casey ordered Melissa. She stared at the poor woman. You could tell she felt so bad for her.
"Come on.. she's got nothing to do with this, okay, just let her go." JJ reminded him. Although they weren't sure if what she said to Casey was effective or not because he demanded her to shut up. Usually this meant that JJ got through to Casey and wanted her to stop.
"SHOOT HER!"
You spoke up, "Casey, you know she has nothing to do with your arrest. So don't make her a part of it. Let her go, okay?"
Casey stared at you and smirked. He pulled the gun out of Melissa's hand and crouched to level you and grabbed you by the hair. You stared at Casey like a stone cold statue and didn't let up. Spencer tried to jump towards Casey but didn't get very far due to the restraints. Spencer's face looked calm but you could tell it was fueled with anger. He watched Casey like a hawk on it's prey. Spencer wasn't the only one, JJ wanted Casey to leave you alone so bad. God knows what Casey was gonna do. He was unpredictable.
"I wasn't talking to you." He said with tight lips. Casey threatened his gun at you and backed away. The relief on your face was immeasurable. He grabbed the hostage and threw her towards a countertop causing everything on top of it to collapse. Spencer leaned to see what happened but was stopped by Casey threatening his gun at him. Casey pulled Melissa towards him and stared.
"New deal," He handed the gun back to her. "I need you to kill one of these three."
She took the gun with a stern face and looked towards them. She pointed the gun at them, her hands shaking as she waves it around, trying to decide who's gonna kick off today.
"Who's it gonna be?"
"Please.. I don't want to do this,"
"Focus, Melissa!"
"Please.."
"Judge, you got to decide. That's what you do, right? Decide LIFE or DEATH with a flick of your gavel."
It only took that much pressure for her to finally choose. She pointed the gun at Spencer, almost ready but hesitant to pull the trigger. She then waved it at you, then JJ. It was the same circle all over again.
Their focus was inturrepted by the phone ringing. He pulled his attention towards it, constantly glancing back to make sure Melissa wouldn't try anything.
"Answer it. Casey, answer it." Spencer pleaded.
"SHUT UP!" He urged. "Pull the trigger!"
Melissa whimpered. She was so hesitant to kill any of them because she didn't want to pick the wrong one with a family and ruin the lives of their loved ones. She was so afraid. Either way, she didn't want to kill anybody. They all had lives and it's one hell of a thing to take that from them.
He pulled the phone and threw it. I suppose he got irritated by the constant ringing so he ended it.
"Focus, Melissa. Pull the trigger!"
They looked at eachother, concerned and scared, not knowing who was gonna go out first. JJ panicked so she insisted that she replaced Melissa if she wouldn't play.
"Casey.." JJ hesitated for a moment, "Um, if Melissa won't play, I will." She started to stand on her knees. She slowly made her way to standing up, reassuring Casey she wouldn't try anything.
Melissa looked confused but relieved. Casey moved his gun from Melissa to JJ and kept an eye on her like a hawk.
"Truth or dare.. that's your game, right? I'll play."
You and Spencer looked at eachother, putting their trust in JJ that she'd be able to defuse the situation.
"Melissa, the weapon, now!" Casey demanded.
"Casey, I know what it's like. To be wrongly accused, sent to a prison for something you didn't commit."
You backed him up, "He's right. In fact, I remember it like it was yesterday. Funny, how we can remember the bad experiences but can barely memorize a single thing they teach us in school, isn't it?"
"Shut up!" Casey waved his weapon at you. He stepped towards Spencer, doubtful what he said was true.
"Yeah, right. You went to jail?"
Spencer nodded. To be honest, he wishes that sentence wasn't real either. Or that you ever had to go through that with him.
"I'd like to see that, pretty boy." Casey directed his attention back to JJ and circled around her.
"Okay, Agent.."
"-Jareau."
"Agent Jareau," He left his voice to trail off, "Truth or dare?"
"Truth."
"If I think your lying or stretching the truth in the slightest, I'll kill them."
"Yeah." She nodded.
"You ever shoot anybody before?"
"Yes, I have."
"-You enjoy it?"
"No."
Casey looked at her for a moment and trailed off. He then glanced back, shooting a warning bullet and scraping your arm.
"Liar!" He screamed.
JJ flinched. She glanced at you to see you groaning in pain and Spencer looking tense.
"No, no, no, I'm not lying. Okay, I'm not lying." She panicked, "The people I shot, I had no choice. But I did not enjoy it. I did not." She assured him.
"Okay, you asked the truth. I told you the truth. So, now it's my turn. Right? That's how this game's played. We take turns. Truth or Dare?"
...
"Truth."
"What's it gonna take for all us to walk out of here alive, for this to end peacefully?"
"I ain't going back to prison! My turn. Truth or dare?"
"Truth."
"I want you to say something that you're afraid to say. Something that you wouldn't tell anybody. And you better make it good. 'Cause if it's not, it's gonna be the last thing you ever say. What's it gonna be?"
"There are only 4 people I trust in this world."
"Boring!" Clancy shot Melissa's leg. She groaned in pain.
"Next!"
"Um.." JJ said, trying to think of something, "My.. my baby I lost, I um.. mmm. I wanted to name her Maggie."
"Wrong! Come on, you know you can do better than that!"
"Casey." Spencer said.
"Shut up!" He responded. He kicked JJ on her knees.
"Ok, ok, ok."
"Last chance. Something that you would never say aloud. Not even to your friends here." He waved his gun to them, "Your deepest, darkest secret. Impress me or I kill them."
They looked around at eachother. You could tell whatever JJ was gonna say it wasn't gonna be good.
"Come on!"
JJ looked at you and smiled before it went away two seconds later. "I'm sorry. You'll understand." She whispered. She then glanced at Spencer and that's when you caught some wind on what she was gonna say.
"JJ, no." You begged.
JJ gulped. She was gonna burst into tears any minute.
"Spence, um.."
"No.." You mumbled. Spencer looked at JJ confused.
"Um.."
The more JJ let her voice trail off the more nervous You and Spencer got. It was nerve-wrecking.
JJ glanced at you and directed her attention to Spencer and sighed, "I've always loved you."
For some reason hearing that felt painful. It felt like somebody punched you in the stomach and you couldn't breathe because the air felt so tight. Spencer glared at you, noticing the frenzy you were about to collapse in. He looked back at JJ and gave her that look of "Why would you say that?"
"-And I was too scared to say it before, especially now that things are too complicated to say it now because.. I'm with Will and your with Y/N." JJ started to sob. "And I know it's not fair to you, Y/N, and I'm sorry-"
"Just stop." You pleaded. Spencer looked like he stepped into a fever dream. He didn't know what to do with what JJ said.
Casey looked shocked. "Hot damn! That's what I'm talking about. Now those are some last words right there." He waved his gun back to JJ, "But not good enough to save your life."
He was interrepted when Spencer shot Casey and collapsed. JJ looked at Spencer to notice the empty holster on his ankle.
Spencer ran towards you to untie you. "Hey, are you okay? How's your arm." He finished untying you.
"I'm fine." You muttered dismissively. You crossed your arms and walked away from them. Spencer went to untie JJ.
"I think I made a mistake." JJ cried.
"It's too late." Spencer glared back.
---------
"Ow." You groaned as the medic put gauze on your arm to disinfect the wound.
"Stay still, Agent." The medic continued to treat your arm. "Alright your all good, try to relax it, okay? And change your bandages every now and then. At least until the wound is healed."
The medic walked away to assist another patient. Reid glanced at you, you looking back at him. That's when you heard JJ's voice in the distance and saw her coming towards you.
"Hey, you okay?"
"Go."
"Y/N-"
"Just.. go. Please. I can't even look at you right now, why should I even talk to you."
"Y/N, just listen-"
"JJ!" You raised her voice loud enough for everybody to hear and look at the situation. "Please. Go before I say something I'll regret."
JJ walked away, realizing there'd be no point in trying to talk to you.
Emily and Rossi walked over to check on you.
"What was that, you alright?" Emily was pretty concerned.
"I'm tired of people asking me that. But yeah, I'm okay. Just hurt." You gestured to Reid and JJ. Of course they didn't get the reference, but maybe that was for the better.
THE END.

hot take: If Luke Alvez was a white man (aka Lucas Adams) and with a little more jerkass attitude, the writers would have no problem making Garvez a thing cause god forbid Garcia is allowed to be happy with a lovely moc who is respectful of her boundaries and cares about her well-being
it also makes sense if you think why they decided to push Jeid to happen all of a sudden, despite JJ being happily married to Will in s14 instead of making Garvez happen, when there’s room for opportunities for them to develop as a couple

Poor Spence...
Saw a Jeid vid compilation and one clip was the line where JJ told Spencer that "no matter what happens this time, we don't split up." Hits different when you know the context...
