so i watched "get out" over halloween, and yes, it's brilliant, yes, Jordan Peele is a horror genius, yes, i'm glad it got so many accolades but also...i still like "us" better and i feel like "us" flew under the radar compared to "get out" and "nope," and it feels very much like (white) audiences need to be spoon-fed metaphors about race and its points of intersection or else they don't engage.

Honestly? My main piece of advice for writing well-rounded characters is to make them a little bit lame. No real living person is 100% cool and suave 100% of the time. Everyone's a little awkward sometimes, or gets too excited about something goofy, or has a silly fear, or laughs about stupid things. Being a bit of a loser is an incurable part of the human condition. Utilize that in your writing.
