There’s a smirk among We’ar-ow’s face. Said Yautja is sat upon a single seat chair in her living room, tablet in her grasp. Though, she hadn’t forced you to be out here with her, your room was starting to get beyond boring of just standing there and doing nothing. Instead, you’ve ventured out and explored what was available to you.
A watchful eye was kept on her as you moved around, like a fearful animal ensuring you didn’t anger her. You knew, despite her gaze on the device, she also observed you. Always. You stopped and peered over at the pink Yautja, head slightly tilted. She doesn’t often let loose any expressions but the fact she had a full grin peeked your interest. Yet, you didn’t dare raise a question.
Right as you were about to continue exploring, We’ar-ow grunted. “Do not be afraid to ask a question, pet,” she said, eyes still on the tablet. You tensed up and worried at your bottom lip. “Speak.”
You groaned lowly. “Why are you smirking?” you brought up the question rolling around your mind. Her upper mandibles twitched, clicking against the bottoms ones. You stayed in the same spot by a room you’ve never been in before.
“That male you mated with.” Dwainet. You slightly flinch as his words rang in your mind. “The mating season ends today. Not a single female reported mating with him.” Reported? They listed that shit?! By god’s grace… all of this was so strange and kind of disgusting to be honest. Why would you want someone to know who you… ehm, had sex with?
Disgust fell over your face. “Why do you know this?” you asked another question, feeling uncomfortable about the conversation.
We’ar-ow raised her device slightly. “We have everything charted. It’s a way to ensure inbreeding does not occur or any diseases appear, we are able to track it down to whom.” Okay… now that made more sense. Still though, you didn’t want your dirty laundry to be aired. “I expected no one to mate with his disloyal ass. I like to know if it was true.”
Her words from when she bested Dwainet rung inside of her head. Right. Since he committed a low crime, not a single female would let them mate with her. Something you also took joy in, just less noticeable. You cleared your throat and softly nodded your head. “That’s… that’s good to know,” you spoke and leaned against the wall close by.
A hum filled the tense air. “Yes. Are you pleased?” Now, your brows furrowed at her words. Why would she care? You just shrugged your shoulders nonchalantly to answer her question. “You still care,” it was more of a statement than a question.
Deep down, you do. You still do. Your heart continuously ached at the heartbreak but he was your first love, true love at first sight. As stupid as the whole situation was, you still cared about the person who smashed your heart without any remorse. Look at you now: a pet to the Monarch of an alien clan. How your world had turned upside down.
“Yes,” you hissed out and stared down at the ground. “I do, okay?”
The couch groaned underneath her as she got up. Instantly, your head whipped up and watched as she made her way over to you. Everything just froze in your mind again, unable to think of way to escape or anything of the sort.
As she stopped before you, she reached out with her hand cupped your chin. Your first reaction was to flinch, but her touch was soft. “Why?” she demanded and tilted your head up to look her in the eye.
A defensive streak rose inside of you. Why did she have to question everything you did? “He was my first love. It felt like true love at first sight,” I said and tried to keep a neutral expression on my face. I didn’t need her to be anger at anything I said.
She hummed once more. A few muscles on your face twitched. Her thumbed swiped along your cheek and drew your attention to something shining on the finger. A tear. You were crying. Why? To save what left over dignity, you tore your head from her grasp. There wasn’t anywhere else to go though so you just stayed against the wall, arms crossed.
“Oomans are so foolish.” You curled more in on yourself. “Love at first sight? There’s no such thing. It is something to nurture and help flourish.” If you had it in you, you would’ve barked out a laugh. As if she or her kind knew of care and kindness.
Rough around the edges. The inside, worse. Just a cactus where their hearts should be. Ugly, heartless, and homewrecker. You kept a heady stare on the floor and grumbled out inaudible words. Not that she would care.
All you wanted was to go home! Fresh, hot tears steered down the lengths of your cheeks and darkened the cloth of your shirt. You bit your tongue; silence was the best answer to any argument. Because it stopped them. She can keep stating her case, breaking your already shattered heart. Here you are, staying quiet and knowing everything she said was the truth. You were foolish and stupid. Look where it got you.
A warm hand tipped your head back up to be face to face with We’ar-ow once more. Your gaze still cast downwards, no matter what she did. The Yautja sighed, a rough sound on your ears, and dropped her head. Then picked her massive head back up to look at you. Her pupils boring an unnecessary hole into you. “I see you have come to realize the truth.”
And the truth hurt. Your bottom lip wobbled.
“That male never cared about you. Not truly. Not the way you wanted. You were something new to his young mind, a new toy if you must. The novelty worn off when realized a ooman mate will diminish his chances of producing a strong bloodline.” Every single word of hers was a gut wrenching, heart tearing, punch to where it hurts most.
Your shoulders trembling at the first sob. Once the damn broke, it was hard to stop. The stress of it all was caving in on you after one beam fell. Your knees gave out and forcing you to drop to the ground. From there, you sobbed your heart out in front of someone you didn’t trust. You backed yourself against the wall and curled as tightly into a ball that was possible.
We’ar-ow stood tall above you, unsure on what to do, arms limp at her sides. Slowly, as if she was hunting, she lowered herself to her haunches, still towering in height and size.
“I wa-was nothing more, more than a play, plaything to him!” you cried into your thighs, body shaking with each pathetic weep. That year with him meant nothing! Nothing to him. While it was thought to be the best time of your life… you were only blinded by the lies and façade.
Coarse, rough skin petted the top of your head and ran down to the base of your neck. You were shocked out of your cryfest as the pain of the mark being touched and hissed. In reaction, you snapped your head up and pinned the limb against the wall. But, that caused it to hurt worse. You jerked away from the wall and reached back to gentle poke at the now blazing mark.
In a whirlwind of emotions and unstable mindset, you snapped at We’ar-ow. “Why did you fucking touch it?!” The mark had scabbed over during the healing process but the skin around it was still sensitive and sore. “You don’t know shit!”
She just sat there, on her haunches, only raising a singular brow at you. “I do not?” she questioned lowly, face revealing nothing of her emotions. You didn’t know what to be more scared after the raging emotions died. Unable to know what she was feeling or how calm those three words came out. You swallowed thickly and curled back into a frightful ball. Maybe she’ll just get this over with and kill you.
Something warm rested under your jaw and forced it up once more. But you don’t look the predator in the eye. That. That is a death sentence. “Pet, I asked you a question.” Again!? Seriously? You could just feel the need to sob your heart out all over again. Why does she keep calling you that? Why not your name? Or something more human than ‘pet’?
For all the energy you had left, you simply just nodded your head. We’ar-ow did not understand your feelings for Dwainet. She never will.
The Yautja simply made a ‘hmpf’ sound and barely nodded her head in thought. “Why do you think that?” she asked. Another question to force you to respond, in any way. Your eyes clenched shut and pushed out any leftover tears. Then, you gulped and took a deep breath.
“I’ve been around your kind long enough. You are a rude, inconceivable species with not a single centimeter of space for love. You, out of everyone, don’t know a single thing about my situation!” Your voice grew in volume the longer you talked. Not that you meant for that to happen.
With her long tongue, the pink Yautja was able to click her tongue and shook her head. The hand under your chin slid against your skin to rest upon your cheek this time. “When I had first found you, my dear ooman, you were a mess of emotions and sorrow. That tells me enough. My age comes into play next. I’m older than you think, gaining experience through my years. I do understand, ooman.”
You snorted through your nose and glared from underneath your brows up at her. We’ar-ow leaned in close, enough for her breath to fan across your wet face. “Why do you think I’ve taken you in as my pet?” Your body tensed, frozen in thought before your shoulders shrugged.
One of her upper mandibles lifted. Her long, pink tongue slithered out and licked up a stripe of your salty tears. “You’ll find out in time.” You jerked your head back only to smack it against the wall behind you, upper lip curling up. We’ar-ow chuckled.
Without a word, you silently pouted and stayed on the ground. We’ar-ow stood back up and offered a hand to you. “Come along, pet.” You scowled at the name but took up on her offer. Just using a sliver of her strength, she pulls you up to your feet. You were yanked up, not expecting the sudden strength or move. The action caused you to bump into her.
One of her arms settled between your shoulder blades and held you steady against the warmth of her body. Blazing heat flashed across your cheeks and raced up to the tips of your ears. You swallowed thickly, entirely form tense and unwilling to move. Neither did she.
The entire time, her gaze was tilted down at you. An alien grin growing on her mandibles, minute. In the state of shock, you didn’t even have time to see it on her features. It was gone as you took all the space you could away from her, back against the wall once more. You took a deep breath in, cleared your throat, and finally looked the predator in the eye. “Where are we going?” you spoke, voice different than before.
We’ar-ow let her arm fall limp to at her side, her eyes still trained on your meek, nervous form. “Out. I have more things to finish before the end of the cycle,” she explained, observed you for a few extra seconds before turning about face and heading towards the door. A scowl fell upon your features at the notion of going out there once more. Paraded as her damn pet.
From the safety of being behind her, you glared fiery daggers at the Yautja and wished you could throttle her. Then, you took the needed steps to catch up to We’ar-ow. The two of you were out the door and shortly on your way to wherever.
The halls weren’t overflowing with the aliens. Today seemed to have calmed down after the season had ended officially. Everyone tired out after the last two weeks had everyone’s hormones thrown into a whirlwind. One that got you caught up in this mess of trouble and rage.
During the entirety of her strutting, you promptly stayed at her six and used her shadows to hide. Pathetic, even with how little Yautjas there were roaming. After everything that has occurred, staying as safe as possible was a necessity to your survival. You don’t know who will challenge the Monarch, as stupid as they would be, for your head. Oomans aren’t well liked upon the predatory species as you’ve come to learn. But here you were, in the lions den with the leader of tribe as your protector. All it takes is one person…
A familiar color caught your eye, feet faulting for a couple of seconds. You accidentally trip over air, barely saving yourself an embarrassing face plant in front of everyone… including Dwainet. Without truly thinking about it, you rushed to catch up once more to the pink Yautja. Your eyes prompt finding the dark metal grey floors far more interesting than the burning rage glare pinned on you.
Cliché enough but if looks could kill, the heat from his gaze would burn hotter than a sun. Death, instantaneously.
One look couldn’t be helped. Eyes flickering for just a millisecond, one too long. You took note that his eyes weren’t on your own. Instead… a little lower, towards your neck. Instinctively, you reached up to touch at the warm leather wrapped peacefully there. A constant reminder to who owned you. If looks could kill… We’ar-ow would be thrown out an airlock and forgotten about.
After that shorter, hair-raising encounter, you stuck to We’ar-ow’s backside like glue. The Yautja didn’t need a leash to keep you this close to her. Just straight terror of what your ex-lover might do to you. Especially learn what had happened to him. He had to be seething from the limited knowledge you had about his species.
The hallway you were taking seemed familiar. Somewhat at least. You scrapped through your mind to remember where this was leading you. Before you had a chance, We’ar-ow stopped in front of a door and imputed a code. Your eyes snapped to her movement, only catching the last three pushes. Three, not bad out of the six you believed was the length of her code.
It opened up to reveal the grand throne room. We’ar-ow marched into the room at her normal strutting pace. Once more, you were left to scramble after her. The Monarch took each step up to the throne chair with pride. You watched as the calm, relaxed Yautja morphed into the leader of her clan. Her face no longer as causal, eyes slightly hooded over as she looked down on the empty space before her.
On the other hand, you went to the spot you had sat at before. Only to notice a soft, plush cushion in place. Despite her gaze on the purple carpet before her, you looked over at her. You were hesitant to sit down on the pillow, unsure if this was the purpose of it. Or something to taunt you with.
A subtle nod came from the Yautja. You released the breath you were holding and thanked to whatever god could hear you for this offering before sitting down.
Instead of the harsh, back breaking metal that once met your bottom, the cushion offered support and relief. You sat easily on the large pillow and crossed your legs, knees bent to sit comfortably. It was definitely an upgrade compared to last time. All you had to do now was somehow find a way to entertain yourself for the time being. Unfortunately.
Yet, something was thrusted into your vision. Your head jerked back, nearly falling backwards and stared at what looked to be a tablet. We’ar-ow held it out, bright iris peering at you from the corner of her eye.
When you didn’t grab it in a reasonable amount of time, she moved it closer to while wiggling it as well. Timidly, you reached out and took the device from her. “Thanks,” you mumbled and inspected the tablet. It wasn’t anything fancy or spectacular but tapping the screen caused it to light up.
From there, you dove more into finding what the item could do in your favor. Plowing through time without even noticing.
It wasn’t until a foot was nudging against your numb legs you uncurled from your shrimp position. We’ar-ow stood before you, regel as ever. You blinked a few times before catching onto what she wants from you. Shutting off the screen and holding the tablet to your chest, you unsteadily got up, legs barely listening to your command.
Like clockwork, the duo had returned back to We’ar-ow’s room. The Yautja walked into the kitchen and sifted through things to gather a couple of items. The entire time, you observed her movements, taking notice how she carries herself while in the privacy of her quarters. Different, relax, causal.
“Are you hungry?” We’ar-ow’s words break you from your thoughts. You shook your head to clear any lingering thoughts.
“Y-yeah, a little,” you voiced and stepped into the living room. Just enough space for We’ar-ow and limited guests if she invites any over. That made you question internally if the Yautja had anything close to a friend. The society of her species highly varies from your own. Was there friendship? Was there relationships? Was there love?
No. There couldn’t be. Not after Dwainet. He taught you his kind was built for love. Just a species morphed to kill. Kill everything in their path, even those who cared about them.
You found yourself settling down on a single person seat that easily engulfed your human body. The tablet was laid comfortably in your lap as you continued to play, mess with it if you must. The things you learned currently were far more helpful than ever.
A map, cameras. All that was needed to show you where their ships were docked, where there was airlocks, emergency escape pods. Everything. From the months you projected to surviving on this ship suddenly turned to days, weeks at most. Freedom was in sight. You could see the light at the end of the tunnel. And it was beautiful.
A plate of assorted fruits/vegetables was placed on the side tablet next to you. We’ar-ow posted her frame to lean against the armrest and peered over you. “Does this give enrichment?” The translator struggled for a moment to find the right word for last part of her sentence.
Nonverbally, you dipped your head as you used an app of sorts to access the internet. Their internet. Strings of Yautja covered the screen, nothing legible. The implant translator only worked with speech, not text. You haven’t found a way to change the language. If there was a way to switch to English…
The Yautja hummed before leaning, showering you in her body heat and pressing a couple of buttons on the screen. Then, voila! Magic. Yautja changed to English in a blink of an eye. “I swear… that male failed you more ways than just the five I count.”
“I have the translator implanted,” you retorted mindlessly and explored the new mode revealed to you. We’ar-ow scoffed once more and used a sharp nail to tap at mentioned device.
“My point still stands.” How much you believe that? Zero. As you’ve come to learn quickly, there was no arguing with her. Instead, you just stayed glued to the tablet and partially ignoring the huge Yautja next to you.
Said predator finally stalked off after a few minutes of watching you. Thankfully. Now, it was time to see what their internet consisted of.

That being said, I think I found a good break point. I’m not even going to jinx myself by saying the next part is going to be the last, so TBD. Thank you again for your support. Please don’t be a ghost reader, and please feel free to comment or DM with any positive or constructive feedback. Enjoy!
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9 | Part 10 | Epilogue 1
You woke up the next morning feeling refreshed. Perhaps that was your fatal flaw all along. The entire time you spent trying and failing to suppress and divert your feelings for the driver, you would have been better served leaning into them and letting them go in a controlled space.
In clearing the air with Daniel, you felt a weight lifted. You were still shocked by the revelation that the feelings were mutual at least in part, but there was comfort and stability in the understanding that had been reached. The lightness allowed you to finally stand in your confidence and share in the excitement of the next phase of negotiations. The season would be over in less than a month, with only two races left including Brazil. You were grateful for the light at the end of the tunnel.
You discreetly made your way to Red Bull hospitality on Thursday morning, bright and early in Sao Paolo before the chaos of media day began. There was only an admin there who greeted you showed you around. You made yourself comfortable in the empty kitchen area, where it was immediately obvious the difference in resources. It felt opulent yet comforting, especially compared to the aggressive orange and sparse theme of McLaren. Then again, spending any excessive time around McLaren hospitality or their garage nowadays just made you depressed and resentful.
It was early, even for you, and you desperately needed to caffeinate before the meeting. You saw the coffee machine, but no mugs in sight. You began opening drawers and cupboards in search of a vessel, cursing Christian Horner in your head. You finally found them, but of course they were on one of the upper shelves. You strained your body to extend as far as it would go, everything you needed just out of reach. While adjusting your balance on your tiptoes, you felt a warm body press against you and a shadow of an arm reaching over you. You closed your eyes and sharply inhaled, relishing the pressure on your back and the smell of familiar cologne. You opened your eyes again when he peeled away from you.
“I think you were looking for this?” Daniel handed you a mug. You took it, feeling your fingers brush again. The epiphany you had earlier was dispelled in an instant. Engaging in self pleasure may have acted as a momentary release, but it did not subdue the feelings that had taken firm root over the last few months. Masturbation was simply a light pruning for the sturdy tree that now grew in your garden that refused to be moved by earthquakes or hurricanes.
“I could’ve gotten it,” you grumbled avoiding eye contact. You had told yourself you had no reason to feel awkward about the other night, but you felt yourself shrinking in his presence nonetheless. His voice went up several decibels and he batted his eyes to mock you.
“Good morning, Daniel! Thanks so much for helping me! Good morning to you too, no problem, so happy I could help.” You rolled your eyes.
“Good morning. I promise I’ll be nicer in ten minutes once I’ve had my coffee.” You haphazardly raised your empty mug. He raised his hands and backed away, a small smirk on his face, but did not leave. He found a seat elsewhere in the kitchen, and you felt his eyes on your back as you went about your business.
You locked eyes when you turned around with a full cup. He innocently smiled and waved, while you forced an aggressive smile back. Leaning against the counter, you took a few sips of coffee without breaking eye contact. After a few minutes you joined him.
“Hi,” he said.
“Hi.”
“Are you done being a cunt?”
“Are you done being a douche canoe?” He snorted.
“I guess not.”
“Likewise.” You paused. “Sorry. I wasn’t expecting you to be here so early before the meeting.”
“Yeah, I don’t know. Me neither. I’m excited, I think. And a little nervous.” He looked like a child on his first day of school, fidgety and unable to contain the energy requiring release. He couldn’t help the growing smile on his face. It was contagious, and you quickly found yourself smiling too.
“You should be – excited! Not nervous,” you quickly clarified. He looked down while he continued to bounce his knee.
“What if I make the wrong choice again?” he timidly whispered, though it could have been a question directed at you or the universe. It was no secret that many thought him leaving Red Bull in 2018 was the worst professional decision Daniel Ricciardo ever made, his short stint with Renault followed by his experience with McLaren as evidence. However, hindsight is 20/20. Perhaps he had too much hubris at the time, but he very validly thought he was being forced into a second driver position. How could he have known the series of unfortunate events that would follow? You did not fight the urge to hold his hand this time, gently placing yours on top of his in the middle of the table as you leaned in.
“There is no wrong choice this time,” you whispered back.
You truly believed that Daniel was in a win-win situation. Mercedes was a well-oiled, professional machine. The relationship there would be a symbiotic one. You thought they could help ground and focus Daniel, while Daniel could improve their public image and perhaps allow them to shed their somewhat stuffy, mechanical persona. Moreover, it would represent a clean slate with a new team. Conversely, you couldn’t deny how poetic a return to Red Bull would be. The place where Daniel spent so many years at the beginning of his career, it would be a momentous homecoming.
The Red Bull kitchen was quiet and empty. He looked at your hand. You were about to pull away but he lightly took hold of it before you could.
“Thanks,” he said in a soft voice to match the soft smile that graced his features.
“Of course. You know I’m always here for you.”
“I know.” He lazily rubbed your fingers with his thumb.
“Do you want to go over anything before the meeting?” You feebly attempted to redirect the conversation to be more professional, but you both knew there was no real effort as neither of you moved.
“Not really. I feel good this time.”
You remained in comfortable silence for a beat, lost in the exchange of energy that passed through one another. Your phone buzzed, pulling you away from the moment temporarily. Your face fell slightly. He looked at you expectantly.
“Well, you’re stuck with me today. The partner’s tied up with something.” You raised your gaze to meet his, searching for some kind of approval. He feigned distress.
“Oh no, what will I do? You’ve only handled 70% of this whole process on your own.” You squinted, skeptical of his confirmation.
“You trust a meager, low level associate to handle the entire trajectory of your future?”
“At this point, I trust you with my life.”
It was hard to tell whether he was being overdramatic for comedic effect or genuine. Foot steps in the distance pulled you from your trance, your hands quickly recoiling. With his back to the entry, he didn’t miss the chance to give you a wink and a smile that made you want to melt into the floor. Instead, you rolled your eyes in response but your bashful smile gave you away. You stood up when you saw your expected hosts enter.
“My two favorite people!”
“Good morning, Christian. I appreciate it, but you know flattery doesn’t work with me,” you quipped as you shook hands. When he wasn’t pissing off the rest of the grid, Christian really was quite the charmer when he wanted to be.
“On the contrary, it will get you everywhere.” The smile didn’t leave his face when he turned to Daniel, arms wide open. Their energy was well matched as they embraced in a warm hug. As happy as the driver was last week with his points finish, he seemed immensely more comfortable now.
When they separated, Christian looked at you again.
“What is this? Coffee and no Red Bull?” he teased.
“Sorry, had a bad experience in law school with energy drinks I’m afraid. Nothing personal. Though I was beginning to wonder whether the coffee machine was for decoration only.”
“They hide the mugs on purpose,” Daniel chimed in. Given the dimply smile and his tone, you would think he was joking but knew he was absolutely telling the truth.
“He leaves for four years, comes back, and thinks he owns the place and can share company secrets.”
You had seen it several times now, but it amazed you how easy their relationship seemed. Although technically Mercedes was not out of the question, you already knew where Daniel’s heart was. It was now just a matter of ironing out the details.
Christian and the Red Bull lawyer joined you at the table in the kitchen. It was a nice change of setting, the informality of it made the weight of the discussion feel a bit lighter. The process with them was easy, especially compared to McLaren and even Mercedes. While it was slightly less formal, at all times you felt respected. Not once did anyone assume you were an admin or paralegal, which admittedly is a low bar. But even beyond that, especially with the partner’s absence, you were never treated as a subordinate and your professional capabilities were never called into question. Of course this process was not about you, but in your opinion you believed choice of outside counsel was an extension of the type of work environment your client could expect. Red Bull had been a pleasant surprise in this respect.
It was all smiles when you exchanged handshakes as you parted ways. You and Daniel were shown out the back door to avoid a few media that had just started to arrive at the paddock. You walked behind the teams’ hospitality stations so that you could join the main entry of the paddock without raising suspicion.
“So. How do you think it went?” you casually asked. You didn’t want your own opinion to taint whatever his genuine response may be.
“Honestly… I think it went really well.” The dimply smile you had become so fond of returned to his face.
“Honestly… me too.” You allowed yourself to show your enthusiasm, feeling yourself break into a wide grin. Away and hidden from the main walk of the paddock, he grabbed your hands and you both quietly squealed and jumped up and down. After a few seconds when you stopped and regained composure, he asked:
“So, what’s next?”
“Well, that depends on you. If you think you’re ready to pull the trigger with Red Bull, you let me know ASAP and assuming we’ve already nixed any dealbreakers that would’ve been in their offer, we go through everything again with a fine-tooth comb, see if they’re able to come up on anything and sign.”
“And Mercedes?”
“We keep them in play until everything is in writing and executed. No need to have a PR disaster like Alpine.” You were, of course, referring to the unfortunate circumstances of Alpine prematurely announcing Oscar Piastri as their second driver for 2023. He chuckled as you continued walking towards McLaren. You could hear the hustle and bustle from the press getting louder as more people began to arrive. He paused just before you were about to turn the corner and enter the circus.
“I want to be at Red Bull,” he said definitively. You smiled.
“Ok then. I’ll get to work.” He gave you an encouraging fist bump before taking a deep breath, knowing this would be the last bit of downtime you both had for the rest of the weekend, reluctant to leave the nest of the quiet sanctuary you shared just behind the organized chaos.
“Shall we?”
You sighed. “No time better than the present.”
-
Brazil was an eventful whirlwind. It was no surprise to you that Daniel continued to skillfully navigate an onslaught of questions about his future in the sport on press day and the rest of the weekend. On Saturday, the two of you gossiped excitedly when Kevin Magnussen got pole in qualifying despite Daniel’s own mediocre performance. Obviously the sport was cut throat, but everyone couldn’t help but root for the Haas underdog. There was a buzz during the sprint, Daniel just out of reach of the points in p11. Unfortunately, the race itself ended up resulting in a DNF for both McLaren boys. With each day of events, Daniel’s mood seemed to sour despite the positive steps being taken behind the scenes. Of course DNF-ing on what could be his second to last race ever is not what anyone wanted. However, while you sympathized for Daniel, that’s not what you were focused on. There was the celebration of George’s first win with Lewis also on the podium, but then there was the internal team drama you watched unfold at Red Bull.
You anxiously waited out the post-race interview process so that you could update your client. If there was any question on what the path forward was before, it became crystal clear today.
As he walked through the paddock eager to get to his drivers room for some solitude, he saw you practically bouncing on your toes. He was a little annoyed to see you in such high spirits after an abysmal race, but it also made him relax a bit.
“I should DNF more often if it makes you this happy,” he dryly joked as he approached you. You should have been used to this song and dance by now. He makes a questionably flirtatious comment, you blush and get flustered, and after a bit of fumbling you redirect course and get back to business. You knew he wouldn’t change his behavior, no matter how many times you halfheartedly scolded or ignored him. It shouldn’t make you flustered any more, but there was excitement in not knowing whether there was any truth behind it. And as much as you hated to admit it, you liked it. But that was before your conversation in Mexico, where you divulged so much about your own inner turmoil. You had made yourself vulnerable. After that, you had assumed he would stop out of respect. What was a thrill before now felt like a cruel joke at your expense.
“Very funny,” you deadpanned. “I have some important news to share with you, can we go somewhere private to discuss?”
“You’re not going to buy me dinner first?” He had said this before, but it wasn’t landing like it used to.
“You’re going to have to buy yourself a new lawyer if you keep this act up.” For someone who didn’t finish the race, he was being awfully cocky today. And by goodness, did it make you feel things.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. You’re the one who said you wanted to be alone with me -”
“Daniel.” He usually stopped after the first rebuttal.
“Not that I’m mad at it-“
Your previous excitement began to sour in your mouth as your heartbeat quickened. You grabbed his wrist and dragged him through McLaren hospitality to his drivers room. You didn’t care who saw or what it looked like. You practically pushed him in and shut the door behind you. His eyes widened as you got in his face.
“Oh shit, is this actually happening?” he began to pull at his shirt.
“What?! No. Shut up. What is wrong with you today?”
“Oh come on, I was just joking! You know I always do this.”
“No.” You pushed your pointer finger into his chest. “Today, you’re being an ass. I don’t know if this is you acting out after a shitty race or what, but pull it together. You are not a 21 year old frat boy, you’re a 33 year old world class athlete with a fully developed frontal lobe - who is now wasting my time, and rest assured, I am billing you for it. And if you stopped your inappropriate jokes for two fucking seconds and let me do my job, I would have told you that there’s a solid chance you can be on the grid in 2024 in a fucking Red Bull. Thought you might want to know.”
You had backed him into a wall and were inches away from his face, huffing and puffing. You were so mad, that one man could make you so infuriated and horny at the same time. His eyes were still the size of dinner plates, but his expression had fallen slightly. It was his turn to blush. He had been surrounded by yes-men for so long, he couldn’t remember the last time he had been chastised like this.
“I’m sorry-” You continued, your tone somewhat more even.
“Max wouldn’t let Checo through today despite what it would mean for the driver’s and constructor’s championships because he thinks Checo purposefully sabotaged him during qualifying in Monaco. The girls are fighting which is more bad PR for Red Bull, Checo’s contract is up next year, and if this dynamic continues between the two drivers then there’s a good chance they won’t renew it.”
“That’s great news-” You cut him off again.
“Am I a joke to you? Because I know you wouldn’t be making these comments if I was a man. I know you thought I was some secretary when we first met, but I really thought I had earned your respect throughout this process.” He looked at you now wearing the pink pantsuit you’d worn on that fateful first day.
“Can I just-”
“I’ve had to deal with so many mediocre men with undeserved self-inflated egos my entire life. I’ve dated them, I’ve been in class with them, I’ve worked with them, I’ve worked for them – especially the last five years at this godforsaken law firm. Lord knows I don’t need another one. I’ve had to work twice as hard and be better than them to prove myself as an equal. And even with all that, no matter what, as soon as I leave the room I’m the punchline of some joke I never asked or wanted to be a part of because I have boobs. Maybe we got off on the wrong foot initially but I really thought you were different. But no-”
One second you were ranting, the next you were cut off by lips crashing into yours. In your fury you missed his warm brown eyes darting between your eyes and your lips. In a flash he had grabbed the lapel of your suit jacket to bring you towards him, your hands landing firmly on his chest. Fireworks flashed behind your eyelids and for a moment you forgot what day it was, where you were, and who you were. You don’t know how long it lasted. You should have pulled away. You definitely shouldn’t have kissed back. But the taste of saline on him from the demands of the day and the scruff of his beard on your chin and cheeks made you want to stay. You smelled his cologne mixed with musk and, what was that, aftershave? Instead, he pulled away first.
You blinked a few times, jaw slack. You brought a hand to your lips, half to make sure they were still there but also for confirmation that you didn’t just hallucinate.
“Sorry, it was the only way I could think to get you to shut up so I could get a word in edgewise. If you’d let me talk, I would say I think you’re the most brilliant person I’ve ever met. You’re smart, witty, funny, and no, it doesn’t hurt that you’re as good looking as I am. You think I give a fuck about billing? I would spend my entire fortune down to nothing if it meant I got to spend more time with you. I’ve known for weeks I wanted to go to Red Bull and I didn’t tell you until three days ago because as excited as I am about figuring out what I’m doing next year, I’m equally dreading it because as soon as I sign that means you leave. When you’re not in the room I only sing your highest praises. So yes, of course I respect you. And I realize, kissing you just now may have proved your point, and I’m sorry about that. And you’re right that I’ve been a cunt today and a lot of this weekend, and I’m sorry about that too.”
There had been very few times in your life where you were left speechless, and this was one of them. It was literally your job to be good with words, and right now they failed you.
“And I know you’re going to say ‘let’s forget that this ever happened’ and I’ll move on and get back to business, but I can promise you I won’t. I’ll never tell another soul for your sake, because I don’t want you to lose your job, but I refuse to forget this, our conversation in Mexico, or that Sunday in Austin. You’re unforgettable f/n l/n.”
You stood there in silence for a few moments. Your adrenaline was through the roof and your mind was blank. He was clearly looking for a response, yet you had none. You did your best to break the tension.
“Well if your goal was to get me to shut up, you succeeded.”
“Honestly, I’m as shocked as you are,” he said with a small laugh. There was another long pause. “I shouldn’t have said all of that, I’m sorry.” You gave him a knowing smile.
“No you’re not.” He smirked.
“Yeah, not really.” You had become particularly focused on a speck of dirt on the floor, but finally returned his gaze.
“You know nothing can happen,” you whispered. It wasn’t a question, it was a statement of fact that was directed at yourself as much as him. You unsuccessfully tried to hide the disappointment in your voice. He refused to look away from you even when you continued to avoid eye contact.
“Yeah, I know.”
Silence descended again. There was nothing else to say. You realized through your tirade and this whole exchange you had been standing dangerously close to one another, and you hadn’t backed away after the kiss. You could feel his heartbeat on your chest, and you were pretty sure he could hear yours. You separated yourself and tried to pick up whatever pieces of dignity you had left. You straightened out your suit jacket and cleared your throat.
“I’m going to try to add some clauses in the contract for 2024 primary driver placement. They’ll almost certainly come back with red lines to make them conditional, perhaps based on Checo’s performance and/or your own performance in the sim, but Horner loves you so much that I think they’ll be receptive to the idea overall.” Your heart hurt at how crestfallen he looked.
“Yeah, that’s fine.”
“I’ll send you a draft before it goes to Red Bull. You can expect deliverables by tomorrow.”
“Ok.”
“Assuming everything goes smoothly, I anticipate the agreement to be fully executed by Abu Dhabi. Does that sound like a reasonable timeline?”
He was incredulous at how quickly you could shut everything off. He had spilled his heart to you and in return he received merely an acknowledgement before you put an abrupt end to the conversation. You had done it so many times before to a lesser extent that he shouldn’t have been surprised by how quickly your walls went back up, but he somehow thought this time would be different.
“Yeah,” he finally answered. “But… I want to wait until after the race. I don’t want to have to worry about sneaking away in the middle of practice or qualifying.” It was his way of saying he wanted you there for the duration of the race weekend, he had gotten used to your presence over the last three months. Despite whatever this altercation did to your relationship, professional or otherwise, he couldn’t imagine finishing the tumultuous season without you by his side. He hoped you would pick up the subtlety, but it went over your head.
“I don’t know Daniel, Red Bull probably has a million celebratory events immediately afterwards seeing as their driver won the championship and they won the constructor’s. I imagine McLaren also has a bunch of end of season events planned as well that you’ll have to attend.”
“Can we ask if they can spend an extra day in the country?”
“If you want to wait until after the season is over I totally get it, it might just be easier if we try to schedule something at Milton Keynes the following week.” For someone so smart you were also awfully dense. He tried to come up with a logical explanation that you would be willing to go along with.
“I just thought it would be smart to be able to announce this within a few days after the end of the season, where there’s still buzz and interest and before we get too far into winter break. Plus then it would give the team a few days to come up with a press release still within that timeframe.”
You couldn’t argue that such timing would be better publicity for both him and Red Bull.
“Hmm, I suppose you’re right. No promises, but I’ll reach out to Red Bull to see what their schedule is like.”
He was satisfied with the victory, no matter how small.
“Is there anything else?” The words felt hollow as they left your mouth. He looked away, shaking his head in disbelief.
“No, I guess not,” he said in defeat. You felt terrible. There were so many things you wanted to tell him, but saying them out loud would only serve to stoke the wildfire you so desperately wanted to put out.
“I’ll see you next week in Abu Dhabi,” you said meekly. You left the room, ending the exchange in a stalemate with neither party satisfied.

Astro Notes: Degree Theory Part 2 🌟
part 1
• Planets or house cusps (particularly 2nd or 10th house) in an Aquarius degree (11°, 23°) may be interested in photography or make a living as a photographer
• Mars in a Capricorn degree (10°, 22°) could have started working at a young age whether it was for a family business, creating their own business, the entertainment industry, etc.
• This is more a theory than an observation but all the things you’re hoping for and trying to manifest can come true when you’re the age of your Jupiter sign degree. This can also happen at the age(s) of the other degrees associated with that sign too. For example, if you have Jupiter in 5° (a Leo degree), then you could have good luck and many opportunities when you’re 17 and 29 as well (also Leo degrees).
• Another theory about Jupiter... In his degree theory, Nikola Stojanovic said the 2° is the degree of supreme power. While I respect and agree with this, I also think the degree of your Jupiter sign can hint at what you’re best at and where you can achieve the most as well. If your Jupiter is at 2° this just further emphasizes your talent in this area.
• Venus in an Aries degree (1°, 13°, 25°) do you always make the first move when you like someone? I genuinely admire your confidence and boldness
• Any benefic planet in an Aries degree 🤝 believing in and/or experiencing love at first sight
• Uranus in a Taurus degree (2°, 14°, 26°) may have a unique or distinct voice.
• North Node in a Scorpio degree (8°, 20°) suggests you may have to work hard to strike a balance between being open and vulnerable while also choosing to keep aspects of yourself and your life private and hidden from others. It’s also commonly found in the charts of people who have made a lot of money. Working hard and putting your all into what you love will help bring you growth, success, and fulfillment.
• 7th house cusp in a Cancer degree (4°, 16°, 28°) might get pregnant or have a baby with someone before they marry them.
• The degree of your 3rd house cusp could show where you’d prefer to live. 3rd house cusp in a fire degree (1°, 5°, 9°, 13°, 17°, 21°, 29°) may enjoy living in a warm or hot fun place. earth degree (2°, 6°, 10°, 14°, 18°, 22°, 26°) may want to live somewhere where the climate is the same year-round and/or somewhere where they’re surrounded by nature and lots of greenery. may not mind being in a more “boring” area where things stay the same as long as there is comfort. air degree (3°, 7°, 11°, 15°, 19°, 23°, 27°) may want to live in a place where there are four seasons and/or a in a city where it’s busy and they can meet new people often. water degree (4°, 8°, 12°, 16°, 20°, 24°, 28°) could prefer to live in a place by the water and/or somewhere that allows them privacy and a chance to be creative.
• While there’s many indicators for career in astrology like your mc, 2nd and 6th house cusp, etc., I also think the degree of your Mars sign can show what area of work or career you might go into. For example, Mars in a Sagittarius degree (9°, 21°) could be a lawyer, teacher, professor, real estate agent, something to do with language or travel. Does your Mars degree match with your career or ideal one?
• Aquarius degrees on the cusp of the 3rd house may change their phone case often because they could view their phone like an essential “accessory.” They could also have a bunch of stickers on their phone or laptop case.
• Venus in a Virgo degree (6°, 18°) could indicate someone who enjoys eating healthy a lot as well as exercising

This Week in BL - 2 GREAT Shows but everything else is kinda blah
Organized, in each category, with ones I'm enjoying most at the top. Happy new year, BLabies!
Jan 2024 Wk 1
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
Last Twilight (Fri YT) ep 9 of 12 - This show is really earning its chops, and these actors are executing beautifully. I think this is a great BL, and it reminds me quite a bit of ATOTS, only the physical comfort between the actors is more genuine and easy to watch. Unfortunately a guitar came out. Nice communication tho.
That was a very lovely romantic sex scene. Very prettily done. Classy boys, very classy.
Tumblr media
Gah what a beautiful final scene with Day saying the last thing he wants to see is Mhork. Pure unadulterated romance of the highest order.
The Sign (Sat YT) ep 7 of 12 - If killer, why hot? Poor Tarn compelled to try to rescue everyone else from their fate, because he cannot save himself from his.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meanwhile Phaya is finally learning that you catch more water snakes with honey lube than vinegar.
Stellar confession from Phaya brutally honest and very fated mates.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And another lovely sex scene, so I guess that was a vision and not a fantasy Tharn had.
Tumblr media
Lets be clear those two shows were GREAT everything else this week was kinda blah.
For Him (Thurs iQIYI) ep 6 of 12 - I find the backstory very odd. Are they twins? What happened to Blue? Am I meant to care? Do I care?
Twins the series (Fri GaGa) ep 10 of 12 - I mostly just feel sorry for First. He’s so rightfully confused. Zee/Sprite keeps blowing hot and cold because they two different people! The after sex cuddle was cute.
Pit Babe (Fri iQIYI) ep 8 of 14 - Love getting more JeffAlan. Also I switch favorite character allegiances in the trash watch happening here.
Tumblr media
Cooking Crush (Sun YT) ep 6 of 12 - Didn’t air this week and I hardly noticed.
You and My Stars YT 1 of 2(?) - school kids, love triangle, it’s cute enough.
My Universe (Sun iQIYI) 1626 ep 20 of 24 - Just so boring. 3/10
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
VIP Only (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 8 of 10 - I’m not into the love triangle. Although I kind of like the new suitor, he’s honest and a good communicator. I appreciate these things in a BL boy. But I begin to wonder if triangles should be left for KBL. Also, this should have been an 8 epper, 10 is too long.
Sahara-sensei to Toki-kun (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 5 of 8 - No ep until Jan 12
I Became the Main Role of a BL (Japan Sun Gaga) ep 1-3 - AKA BL Drama no Shuen ni Narimashita: Crank Up Hen - A rising star is paired with an (older) former child actor (doesn’t think he’s good enough) in a BL series. It’s fun, built on a dynamic of off screen paralleling the on screen, so near constantly meta. All the tropes are there but are as a result of the filming process. The star turns out to be obsessed with the former actor and very dorky about it. In fact, everyone in this show is a little gremlin weirdo (affectionate). There’s tons of scenery chewing miscommunication drama, slapstick, voice over head hopping, and eccentric sides characters. “And he comes with feathers” applies to a number of my friends. You know I don’t like stories around fan obsession, but otherwise this was enjoyable. 8/10
A nice start to the JBL year. Keep em coming, Japan.
Tumblr media
It's done I Need to Catch up
What Did You Eat Yesterday Season 2 AKA Kinou Nani Tabeta? Season 2 (Japan Gaga) 10 eps - will binge when I have a spare day.
Tumblr media
It's Airing But...
[INTERNATIONAL] Cherry Magic (Sat YouTube) ep 3 of 12 - yeah Japan put the smack down on our boys. Sadness. You can use a VPN if you like. Read all about it here.
Playboyy (Thurs Gaga) 14 eps - Dear Playboyy, it's not you, it’s me… I hate you. You’re about as deep (and as palatable) as a shot glass of cum. While I'm sure you’re someone’s kink, you're my weakest link. Goodbye. I DNFed this at ep 5. Frankly I'm impressed with myself for getting that far.
Night Dream (Sat YT) 6 eps - It’s a pain to track down and I really didn’t like the first episode so… DNF
The Whisperer (Sun ????) 10 eps - Thai horror BL that ALSO involves cheating (what joy is mine). I don't think even the perfect single dimple can motivate me to watch. Word is... it's terrible.
7 Days Before Valentine (Weds WeTV) 10 eps - Giving me Luminous Solution vibes. I'm waiting to binge if safe.
Dead Friend Forever (Thai Sat iQIYI) - horror, meh, tell me if it's worth my time?
Tumblr media

1/11 Although I Love You and You AKA Sukiyanen Kedo Do Yaro ka (Japan Gaga) - Soga, who, after a divorce and relocation to Osaka, seeks solace in dining at 26-year-old Sakae's restaurant. Unbeknownst to Soga, Sakae sees him as more than just a regular customer.
More Coming Jan 2024
Beside You (Thai YouTube)
Love For Love's Sake (Korea ????)- based on the Manhwa ‘Love Supremacy Zone’ by Hwacha. A young man is dropped into a game based off a novel he loves. His mission is to make another player, YeoWoon happy. But then the game starts unfolding completely different from the novel.
Ossans Love Season 2 (Japan ????) - five years later, will anything have changed? This is Japan so... probubly not. I won't be watching this.
Upcoming BLs for 2024 are listed here. This list is not kept updated, so please leave a comment if you know something new or RP with additions.

Word Count: 1,317
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11
---------------------------
Part 1: Hopeless
It was a frigid, cold winter day in Velaris. Growing up in the beautiful town of night and stars, you were accustomed to the changing seasons but hated winter the most. As you stood in the back of the clinic, warming your hands by the fireplace, you heard the front door swing open; the bells hung on the back of the door knocking against each other violently. “Madja, please, I need your help,” a deep, rich voice echoed throughout the clinic. A voice you had never heard before, but laced with concern and panic, you couldn’t help but creep behind one of the bookshelves and pretend to stay busy as you eavesdropped on the conversation.
“She won’t be able to pass him naturally. I’ve spent every single day over the past few weeks trying to find a solution, but I can’t find a way out of this. Please, Madja. I need something. I need some kind of hope or some answer. There has to be some option.” Grabbing a few books to reshelve, you turned a corner, and your knees almost buckled on themselves.
Standing at the front of the clinic with his hands on Madja’s shoulders was none other than Rhysand, High Lord of the Night Court. You immediately recognized his blazing purple eyes, the power thrumming from him and into your very bones. You weren’t one to be easily intimidated, so you kept your focus on the books in your hands and began reshelving. Madja looked over her shoulder, trying to get your attention, but you ignored her. She knew you didn’t like people knowing about your powers, even if it was the High Lord. “I’m sorry, Rhys. I am out of ideas and don’t know what else to do. Y/N and I will do some more research tonight, but I can’t promise anything. We’ve already looked through all our books, but we will look once more. I will try my best, but the High Lady needs you now more than ever; please, go attend to her, and we will try to figure something out.” Rhysand held his stare but finally nodded, disappointment and sadness apparent in those beautiful violet eyes. He stalked out of the clinic, and Madja quickly locked the door behind him.
“What was that all about?” you asked, trying to sound as uninterested and nonchalant as possible, like it was anyone other than the High Lord who just blasted through the front door.
“The High Lady is pregnant. She was in her Illyrian form when her child was formed, and I went to see her a few weeks ago to check on the child. He has wings.”
You didn’t need more information to determine how dangerous the High Lady’s pregnancy was.
“I know you don’t want anyone to know about your gift, but you saw how distraught Rhysand was. I’ve been taking care of him and his brothers for centuries. It would mean a lot to me if you would just consider helping him and Feyre. They would be eternally grateful.” Madja’s words hung in the silent air, and her pleading gaze meant she wanted an answer sooner rather than later.
“I’ll think about it tonight. I can’t promise anything, but… he did seem really worried. I can’t imagine what he must be going through. I’ll have an answer for you by the morning.”
Madja left, and you stayed back to finish cleaning up. Again the front door swung wide open. You jumped and let out a scream, shaken out of your thoughts of the High Lord and Lady. Turning around with the broom in your hand, you took a defensive stance, only to face Rhysand. His raven black hair was ruffled, wings spread out, and violet eyes burning into your own. Neither of you said anything for a few seconds, so you decided to break the silence.
“I was just--” he started. “Madja isn’t here; she left a while ago,” you sputtered out at the same time as him.
Rhys walked over to you, keeping a few paces in between the both of you. “My apologies. I’m Rhysand,” he said, offering a gentle smile and his hand.
“Lord Rhysand, I’m Y/N.”
“Please, call me Rhys. Are you a friend of Madja’s? I’ve never seen you around before.” Appreciating his calm demeanor, you replied, “Yes, I’ve known of Madja for quite some time. I was born and raised in Velaris, actually. I’ve been interested in healing and her knowledge of medicine, so I started as an apprentice here last summer and have been working with her since then. I overheard your conversation earlier; I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop. Is the High Lady doing alright?”
His smile quickly vanished, replaced with a frown and furrowed brows. “Feyre is…I’m scared.” The concern and fear in his eyes returned. “She doesn’t know, but she won’t be able to pass the baby naturally with its wings. Madja says there’s nothing she can do for her. Shifting into her Illyrian form is too risky, and Madja doesn’t know how to cut into her belly without risking either of their lives. I’m hopeless,” he finished, unknowingly pacing around the room. Madja’s request from earlier still rang in your ears. You had said that you would have an answer for her by the morning, but Rhysand’s words tore at your heart. You didn’t want anyone to know about your surgical knowledge or healing powers, but you empathized with his feeling of helplessness.
Half human and half fae, you had spent years studying in the human realms before even approaching Madja, learning about surgical techniques and spending countless hours operating on cadavers that people had offered once they passed. You were forever grateful for their sacrifice long after they were gone; without them, you wouldn’t have mastered the skills you were now equipped with. You had never performed an actual surgery, let alone on a fae. Another reason you didn’t want Madja telling people of your skills-- you weren’t confident enough yet to go through with them. “Is everything alright, Y/N?” Rhys’s voice pulled you out of your thoughts.
“Yes, sorry. Everything is okay; I think maybe more than okay.” A grin slowly etched your face, and Rhys’s brows furrowed in confusion. “I want to be honest, but I don’t want to get your hopes up, Rhys. Nobody knows this except Madja, so I would appreciate your discretion. I studied surgical techniques for years in the human realms. My mother was human and passed away years ago after an accident. She needed a surgeon, but there were none easily accessible to us. After she passed, I promised to learn as much as I could. I’ve worked on cadavers before and am very familiar with pregnant females, but I’ve never performed surgery before, and I’m not 100% confident in my abilities. If you and Feyre want to take the chance, I would be more than willing to perform Feyre’s surgery. I know this is a big decision and not something to take lightly, but Madja told me there are not many options. Please take all the time you need and talk it over with her.”
A tear slipped out of Rhys’s eyes, and he rushed over to grab your shoulders, just like he had with Madja. “Thank you, Y/N. Thank you for trusting me with this information. Let me talk to Feyre and see what she says. I’ll stop by tomorrow morning to let you know, but I think this will be our best bet. Thank you.”
Rhys rushed out of the clinic. You didn’t realize how tightly you had been gripping the broom this entire time, and your jaw was clenched so tight that an ache seared through your teeth. What did I just get myself into, you thought to yourself as you locked the clinic door behind you and walked back home.

I am curious for your perspective on the way the OF creators are interacting with fans and have even admitted to editing the show based on fan reactions. It strikes me as an unusual level of interaction and capitulation, though of course TV is a live medium that is nearly always responsive to reactions to some extent. My preference is for a lot less of this kind of thing, but I know you have experience with direct interaction with media creators and have found it enhances your experience sometimes. What do you make of how these dynamics are showing up in OF and the effect it’s having on the show?
TV and Critic Background
So, I am actually the worst person to talk to if you think the creators should be quiet about their work, because I really enjoy talking to directors, producers, actors, cinematographers, and especially editors about their work. I often go to film festivals just to talk to the creators about their processes.
I've also been in the TV space a really long time, and I am used to this kind of behavior. I don't think a lot of folks who are in BL are used to being in the process of TV itself, and I think a lot of people have let the Netflix binge model inform the way they view TV. TV is not like movies. When you get a movie, you are seeing the end product of filming, editing, test screenings, re-edits, etc. TV is usually only an episode or two ahead of the viewers.
It's extremely normal for a show to respond to feedback when characters test well. The 100 did this with Jasper. He was supposed to die in the pilot when that spear entered his chest, but he tested well with audiences so they revived him.
Fun Fact: This is why Kiseki: Dear to Me didn't just move their release schedule up when episode 8 was leaked early. They probably weren't finished assembling episode 9.
I followed Sense8 through its entire development process all the way from rumors and then J. Michael Stracynski's posts about it, to the things Lana and Lily said about it, to the commentary from the cast.
I have a special hatred for Rick Behrman over Star Trek.
I absolutely hate Russel T. Davies because of Cucumber.
I bailed on Supernatural because of the way the writers condescended to us at comicon after killing Kevin.
I know some fans are upset about the idea that scenes they wanted to see got cut, but I was there for Noah Galvin opening his fucking mouth to talk shit about other actors at ABC who were playing beloved gay characters and that subsequently getting The Real O'Neals canceled. The show had a very short second season and I feel forever salty about that.
What does this mean for Jojo and Ninew and Den?
I actually think Jojo, Den, and Ninew are fine. I don't think they usually poopoo on valid reads from what I've seen, and mostly they're having fun with the fans, too. I just don't think people are used to the creators being so honest about how feedback affects the editing process.
I think this is the first time we've had a big show in a while where the creator was fairly active on socials about the show. Aof and Au are usually pretty quiet when their shows are airing, and only give small tidbits while they show is airing. Jojo is silly and likes to play with fans. Den is feisty and has a gay agenda to pursue.
Truly, I don't think Jojo and friends are that bad about anything with this show, because they're mostly just laughing and stating things that are obvious to people who pay attention to how the sausage is made.
Shipping
That being said, the biggest struggle OF is having is shipping. The FK girlies are so loud and their heavy breathing has likely influenced the way Jojo and friends decided to write Ray. The FB girlies are so into them that it's made Jojo and them dial back some of their Top content because the audience hates him so much. Only Boston and Nick feel like they've made it through the shipping gamut intact because Neo and Mark aren't bringing a bunch of preexisting shippers to the table.
Coming off of episode 10, you can see this plainly with the nasty4nasty dynamic with Boston and Nick. The emotional core of their dynamic feels true, even down to the way their moments in the store mirror their first interactions again. Boston came in for service about his phone and intentionally showed Nick something on it.
I don't think Jojo has ever had to work with multiple acting pairs that were big branded pairs prior to this, and this is only his second time really dealing with that. With Never Let Me Go, Pond and Phuwin weren't that big yet, and he wasn't threatening their ship with anything complicated. OF is challenging for people who just watch BL as fap material and have to deal with their faves not being easy people to parse.
As usual, we go back to that post that goes around all the time, thought I think the OP deleted it:

Favourite KimChay Fics pt.1 (in alphabetical order)
1. An Elegant Mechanism by @laughsalot3412 https://archiveofourown.org/works/42223701
Kim was only an omega when he was luring people closer to his gun. No one had to give Kim a weapon. He was one.
(Kim's mission is to get close to Porchay Kittisawat. Chay is not a typical alpha. Kim is not a typical omega. Kim isn't having feelings and Chay is going to be so normal about all of this.)
2. checkmate by @majestictortoise https://archiveofourown.org/series/3041331
Porsche watches the security video from Yok's bar. He has so many questions.
Kim ruins some of his father's plans, talks about his feelings, totally doesn't cry, and finally gets to kiss a cute boy.
3. dancing with our hands tied by @staykimchay https://archiveofourown.org/series/3051495
The post canon fic in which Chay decides he wants to go out and get drunk and instead gets himself into a whole heap of trouble. The events which follow will break and mend hearts, forge new alliances and, perhaps most importantly, earn Chay the reputation he deserves.
4. I Just Want To Stay Here by @sweet-william-writes https://archiveofourown.org/works/39742848
In which Porchay comes home from his camp to find his brother mysteriously gone and his idol sitting in front of his house waiting to ask him for a seemingly simple favour AKA to hell with canon I refuse to let baby Chay get kidnapped so I make it Kim's problem and get domestic about it
5. idiots & idioms by @thecookiemonster77 https://archiveofourown.org/series/3061830
W I ꓘ ✓ @ WiK hi this is p’wik’s boyfriend. i broke my ankle and am confined to the sofa to heal because my boyfriend’s terrible, so AMA until i get kicked off
stan first, live second @ kerders @ WiK wait you’re real???????
W I ꓘ ✓ @ WiK @ kerders idk if this is supposed to be a jab at me or imply p’wik would make up a boyfriend like a loser in high school
Chay does an AMA on the official Wik twitter. Kim's reputation may not survive.
6. karma is a cat (purring in my lap) by @staykimchay https://archiveofourown.org/series/3208398
The night air is warm and humid. A full moon hangs in the sky above the city like a beacon in the dark. Chay sighs to himself and looks up at it. Today marks the month anniversary of Kim breaking up with him—if you can call it that.
AKA the fic where Chay gets turned into a kitten, manages to find Kim and has the unfortunate position of watching everyone he loves think he’s missing.
7. More or Less https://archiveofourown.org/works/40492791
Finding out both his brother and his crush were involved with the mafia had not been Porchay's intention when he'd gone to investigate where his brother had actually disappeared off to but that was what he'd gotten. So he had no choice but to deal with it somehow.
8. One Second Chance https://archiveofourown.org/works/40358589
Alright, he’d talked to Chay, he’d written the man a song, neither of that had gotten through. What else could he do? Kim needed options. And maybe a miracle.
(Fix it fic while we wait for second season)
9. With Every Guitar String Scar on My Hand I Take This Man to Be My Lover https://archiveofourown.org/works/40088208
People not noticing that Kim and Chay are a couple and one time they do. Everyone going "That's suspicious, that's weird...anyway."

Mutual 13:
Midway upon the journey of our life
    I found myself within a forest dark,
    For the straightforward pathway had been lost.
Ah me! how hard a thing it is to say
    What was this forest savage, rough, and stern,
    Which in the very thought renews the fear.
So bitter is it, death is little more;
    But of the good to treat, which there I found,
    Speak will I of the other things I saw there.
I cannot well repeat how there I entered,
    So full was I of slumber at the moment
    In which I had abandoned the true way.
But after I had reached a mountain’s foot,
    At that point where the valley terminated,
    Which had with consternation pierced my heart,
Upward I looked, and I beheld its shoulders,
    Vested already with that planet’s rays
    Which leadeth others right by every road.
Then was the fear a little quieted
    That in my heart’s lake had endured throughout
    The night, which I had passed so piteously.
And even as he, who, with distressful breath,
    Forth issued from the sea upon the shore,
    Turns to the water perilous and gazes;
So did my soul, that still was fleeing onward,
    Turn itself back to re-behold the pass
    Which never yet a living person left.
After my weary body I had rested,
    The way resumed I on the desert slope,
    So that the firm foot ever was the lower.
And lo! almost where the ascent began,
    A panther light and swift exceedingly,
    Which with a spotted skin was covered o’er!
And never moved she from before my face,
    Nay, rather did impede so much my way,
    That many times I to return had turned.
The time was the beginning of the morning,
    And up the sun was mounting with those stars
    That with him were, what time the Love Divine
At first in motion set those beauteous things;
    So were to me occasion of good hope,
    The variegated skin of that wild beast,
The hour of time, and the delicious season;
    But not so much, that did not give me fear
    A lion’s aspect which appeared to me.
He seemed as if against me he were coming
    With head uplifted, and with ravenous hunger,
    So that it seemed the air was afraid of him;
And a she-wolf, that with all hungerings
    Seemed to be laden in her meagreness,
    And many folk has caused to live forlorn!
She brought upon me so much heaviness,
    With the affright that from her aspect came,
    That I the hope relinquished of the height.
And as he is who willingly acquires,
    And the time comes that causes him to lose,
    Who weeps in all his thoughts and is despondent,
E’en such made me that beast withouten peace,
    Which, coming on against me by degrees
    Thrust me back thither where the sun is silent.
While I was rushing downward to the lowland,
    Before mine eyes did one present himself,
    Who seemed from long-continued silence hoarse.
When I beheld him in the desert vast,
    “Have pity on me,” unto him I cried,
    “Whiche’er thou art, or shade or real man!”
He answered me: “Not man; man once I was,
    And both my parents were of Lombardy,
    And Mantuans by country both of them.
‘Sub Julio’ was I born, though it was late,
    And lived at Rome under the good Augustus,
    During the time of false and lying gods.
A poet was I, and I sang that just
    Son of Anchises, who came forth from Troy,
    After that Ilion the superb was burned.
But thou, why goest thou back to such annoyance?
    Why climb’st thou not the Mount Delectable,
    Which is the source and cause of every joy?”
“Now, art thou that Virgilius and that fountain
    Which spreads abroad so wide a river of speech?”
    I made response to him with bashful forehead.
“O, of the other poets honour and light,
    Avail me the long study and great love
    That have impelled me to explore thy volume!
Thou art my master, and my author thou,
    Thou art alone the one from whom I took
    The beautiful style that has done honour to me.
Behold the beast, for which I have turned back;
    Do thou protect me from her, famous Sage,
    For she doth make my veins and pulses tremble.”
“Thee it behoves to take another road,”
    Responded he, when he beheld me weeping,
    “If from this savage place thou wouldst escape;
Because this beast, at which thou criest out,
    Suffers not any one to pass her way,
    But so doth harass him, that she destroys him;
And has a nature so malign and ruthless,
    That never doth she glut her greedy will,
    And after food is hungrier than before.
Many the animals with whom she weds,
    And more they shall be still, until the Greyhound
    Comes, who shall make her perish in her pain.
He shall not feed on either earth or pelf,
    But upon wisdom, and on love and virtue;
    ’Twixt Feltro and Feltro shall his nation be;
Of that low Italy shall he be the saviour,
    On whose account the maid Camilla died,
    Euryalus, Turnus, Nisus, of their wounds;
Through every city shall he hunt her down,
    Until he shall have driven her back to Hell,
    There from whence envy first did let her loose.
Therefore I think and judge it for thy best
    Thou follow me, and I will be thy guide,
    And lead thee hence through the eternal place,
Where thou shalt hear the desperate lamentations,
    Shalt see the ancient spirits disconsolate,
    Who cry out each one for the second death;
And thou shalt see those who contented are
    Within the fire, because they hope to come,
    Whene’er it may be, to the blessed people;
To whom, then, if thou wishest to ascend,
    A soul shall be for that than I more worthy;
    With her at my departure I will leave thee;
Because that Emperor, who reigns above,
    In that I was rebellious to his law,
    Wills that through me none come into his city.
He governs everywhere, and there he reigns;
    There is his city and his lofty throne;
    O happy he whom thereto he elects!”
And I to him: “Poet, I thee entreat,
    By that same God whom thou didst never know,
    So that I may escape this woe and worse,
Thou wouldst conduct me there where thou hast said,
    That I may see the portal of Saint Peter,
    And those thou makest so disconsolate.”
Then he moved on, and I behind him followed.

The Girl Next Door - Part 1
A/N: Part 1! This part is really just to give you a clue into their relationship right now, as the following parts will be about the shifting in their dynamic! Hehe, I'm so excited for this series! Let me know if you want to be added to the tag list!
Series Chapter:
Prologue | Part 1
Jeremiah Fisher x OC! Isabella Sullivan
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ella Sully <3
8:03 AM
J: You guys on your way?
E: 👍
just left Cambridge and stopped for coffee quick
J: 😊 See you soon then Sully
E: see you soon Fisher
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was sat on their front porch by 9:30. Realistically they shouldn’t be getting here until 9:45-10:00 but with the way the Sullivans drive, I knew they could be arriving any minute. At 9:38 I watched as the Range Rover pulled into their rocky driveway. My face instantly lit up. The car was barely in park when she opened the door and ran to me. Her arms flew around my neck as I grabbed her in my arms and spun her around.
We held onto each other tightly before I put her down, truly staring into her eyes for the first time this season. She looked a little different than when I last saw her, although that was just around winter break. In the past 6 months, she had lost a little baby fat from her cheeks, gained some new freckles, had grown her hair out and got it freshly highlighted, and her hazel eyes looked extra green today.
“Well hello, Isabella.” I grinned down at her, arms still looped around her.
Her eyes glistened, “Well hello, Jeremiah.” If possible my smile grew, as I picked her back up into the air making her squeal.
“I'm so happy you're here, I can’t wait for this summer!” I placed her feet back on the ground, and this time when I looked at her something shifted, our stare intense, the air between us thick. Suddenly I became aware of just how close I was holding her. I scanned her face, unable to help myself when my eyes lingered on her lips a beat extra. I could always read my Ella, but the look on her face right now was new, and it stumped me.
“Jeremiah!” Spell broken. Begrudgingly I let Ella go to hug her mother. The older woman squeezed me tightly. My arms dropped as she moved back from me, her hand going to cup my cheeks.
“Wow, I think you’ve actually gotten taller since I last saw you! My my what a handsome young man you’ve turned into, don’t you agree Ella?” I smirked as Ella blushed from her mom's comment.
 Her eyes went wide as she laughed, “Mom!”
I gave my best puppy dog's eyes, teasing her,” What you don't agree I’m handsome Ella?” She just scoffed as she grinned back at me playfully.
“That’s not important, but I know you well enough to know it's important I don't add any more fuel to your ego.” We all chuckled, and I saw her mom giving us a loving look out of the corner of my eye.
“Let me help you guys carry in your bags!”
After bringing all their bags inside, Ella and I went to her room. I plopped on her bed while she put her things away.
“So where's your dad?” I asked curiously.
She glanced over her shoulder at me before continuing to put her clothes in her drawers, “He’s driving out next weekend, he has a conference in Boston this week.”
“Cool,” A comfortable silence stretched between us, “So, surfing?” She paused what she was doing, turning around to me as she leaned against her dresser. A smile graced her beautiful features, what a sight to see. I wondered if she smiled like this for other people or maybe just maybe her smile was something I got just for myself. Maybe I was the only one with the privilege of sharing a moment of such pure happiness with her. I could only wish.
“Oh yeah.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Post-ocean was my favorite time to see her. Her hair was gorgeously curly from the salt water, her cheeks tinged pink from the sun, and her freckles glowed across her face. We laid down on a towel, catching our breath from surfing before we trekked back up to the house. I turned to my side to face her, prompting her to do the same. I pushed the hair that fell while she did so behind her ear.
“I'm so happy it's summertime, I missed you, Elle.” Her expression stayed at a relaxed state but the corners of her eyes creased a little extra.
“I missed you too J.” I smiled. Only she ever called me that, and even she did it only once and a while.
I lay back flat and she scurried over to put her head on my chest. I could stay here forever- “Should we head back to your house, I still need to say hello to everyone.” It seemed she didn't have the same idea though.
If I’m being honest, I'm growing tired of having to hide my love for her, tired of not being able to pull her that couple inches closer to me, tired of her not being mine.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After a hello filled with a lot of hugs, Ella went home to shower before her mom and her came over for dinner like always. We all sat around the table, catching up on the past few months as we ate my moms cooking. After dinner Ella came upstairs to my room while I got ready for the bonfire. She came over ready, and was now just waiting for me, Steven and Conrad. She scrolled on her phone before flicking her eyes up to me. I held two shirts up to her, “Blue or Gray?”
She took a moment to truly consider it, her expression serious. “Blue, makes your eyes sparkle, it’ll boost you up with the ladies.” She gave me animated wink, giggling a bit.
I scoffed lightly trying my best to fake a smile, but nodded curtly following her word without question, blue shirt it was. Then I put my hands on the edge of the bed beside each of her legs, leaning in grinning, “You like my eyes?”
She fueled the fire, grabbing the sides of my face and staring straight at me with a smile, “Yes you were blessed with gorgeous baby blues Jere.” I laughed and backed away to strip off my current shirt to slip on the one she chose. I smiled to myself when I caught her lingering on my abs for a moment. Heat blossomed in my chest. I can’t blame her, I looked different than last summer but based on the sight of her in her bikini earlier, so did she.
“Ell-”
Just then Steven came running through my doorway, “You guys ready?” Ella perked up jumping off my bed and out the door. I huffed, should be a fun night.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Who the hell was that?
I stood with some guys I've known from over the years, a can of soda in hand, DD for the night. But while I stood there, Ella sat on a towel in the sand near the fire with some guy. Some guy. Not me.
“-Jeremiah? Ello, earth to Jeremiah?” I regained focus looking at my buddies who laughed at my distracted state.
I glanced back at Ella, my Ella, I couldn't take it anymore, "I’ll be back.” I walked straight to her, paying no mind to the annoyed grunts and protests coming from behind me. The guy she was sitting with spotted me coming toward them first. I took Ella by surprise when I plopped down next to her in the sand, my arm immediately going around her shoulders.
“Wha- Oh hey J!” She melted into my side once she realized it was me. My eyes looked at her briefly, flashing a smile, before my face went straight and I stared down this random ass boy.
“Hello Sunshine, and who are you?”
The guy seemed displeased by the situation unfolding in front of him, “I’m Finn, if you don't mind Ella and I were-”
I stopped him before he could even start, because I frankly didn’t give a fuck what he was going to say, “Alright Finn, thanks for keeping my girl company for me, see you around, maybe, probably not.”  He looked at Ella for a moment but when she made no objection he got up and walked away huffing as he went.
I stayed silent, the reality that Ella might be super pissed for the stunt I just pulled dawning on me. Then she grabbed my face repositioning our spots on the towel so that we were face to face instead of side to side. Our eyes connected, and she pulled me towards her quickly, eyes sparkling in the moonlight. I had no time to process..is Ella about to kiss me? What should I do- well kiss her back obviously- but wait where is this coming from-
“Mwah!”
My cheek. Oh. She kissed my cheek.
“Thank you! Oh my gosh, he was such a douche! You know when we were little I hated how easily you could read me, but now it's like my own secret weapon to save me from situations I don’t wanna be in. Oh, and faking the ‘my girl’ card? Genius! Nothing seems to shut a guy up quicker than finding out she has a boyfriend. You put on a good act. Where were you even that you saw me? I couldn't see you?”
Her arms had dropped to rest on my shoulders. I didn’t know what to say. I should just tell her the real reason I came over.
“Elle I-”
Blue and red lights flashed in my vision.
Cops.
Fuck.
The M*A*S*H Time Loop
This was pretty much just a stream of consciousness writing. I haven't looked at it much since I wrote it a couple of days ago but I wanted to post it anyway.
The sitcom M*A*S*H ran from 1972 to 1983 and captured households around America. The series follows M*A*S*H (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) unit 4077 through the Korean War. Knowledgable readers might have noticed that the Korean War lasted 3 years from June 1950 to July 1953 while the M*A*S*H series ran for 11 years from September 1972 to February 1983. This significant timeline difference created an interesting effect on M*A*S*H that led to many fans discussing the ‘M*A*S*H time loop theory.’ As the name would imply, this fan theory posits that the events of M*A*S*H do not take place during the Korean War as we know it, but instead that the show follows the 4077th as they are stuck in an endless time loop and are unable to escape the war.
Clearly, the timeline of M*A*S*H is a bit difficult to line up with the events of the actual Korean War due to the 8-year difference. Characters such as BJ Hunnicutt and Radar O’Riley were on the sitcom for 8 years but canonically it is difficult to say if they were meant to have spent the same amount of time in Korea. While the episodes were aired weekly, it is impossible to say if most of the episodes were meant to take place a week apart. There are several episodes for which we know this is not the case, for example, the season 9 episode ‘A War for All Seasons’  begins with the 4077th ringing in the new year and follows several key events throughout 1951 and ends on New Year’s Day 1952. This seems to imply that the previous 8 seasons all take place in 1950. It could also imply that subsequent episodes all take place in 1952 or later, though many assume that some episodes show events that were not seen in ‘A War for All Seasons.’ On the opposite end of the spectrum, several episodes take place over a matter of hours. The season 8 episode ‘Life Time’ happens essentially in real time as Hawkeye has only 20 minutes to complete an arterial graft on a wounded soldier. These and other episodes make creating a sensible timeline for the M*A*S*H series an incredibly complicated process. Trapper John leaves in the first episode of season 4, does this mean that he was only in Korea for 6 months? As mentioned earlier, Radar and BJ were on M*A*S*H for the same number of years, but Radar leaves before ‘A War for All Seasons,’ does this mean that Radar was enlisted for a year or less while BJ was present for 2 years? Does it matter how long any of these characters were engaged in the Korean War? The time loop theory certainly says no.
The nature of all sitcom television lends itself very well to the concept of a time loop. The show almost always resets itself at the end of every episode and it begins the next episode in essentially the same place. The order of the episodes often doesn’t matter. Everything is always happening, nothing happens, it doesn’t matter. In M*A*S*H specifically, one of the core themes of the show is the cyclical nature of war. It intentionally pokes fun at the repetition, the monotony with lines like ‘the future’s been canceled by the war department’ and ‘Father, what do you think of purgatory so far?’ as well as with aspects such as the omnipresent PA voice. Hawkeye Pierce becomes the main focus of the show and the audience's lens in many ways and as such is one of the easiest introductions to this concept. Hawkeye complains about being stuck nearly every episode and often phrases it as though he is not just stuck as a surgeon in a war zone, but as if his whole life is stuck, as if his past and future are all contained within the war. Another character giving credence to this theory is Radar O’Riley. Radar earned his nickname due to his uncanny ability to sense incoming wounded before anyone else and to predict what his commanding officers will ask for before they open their mouths. While this is certainly a fun gag for the show, many think it shows that Radar is aware, consciously or unconsciously, of the time loop. Radar is aware of when the choppers will arrive and when Henry needs files because it has all happened before and will happen again. Many fans also point out that this could be the reason for Radar’s reaction to Henry being sent home. It is more than just realizing that he will be left in Korea while the man he has come to see as a father figure goes home to his family. On some level, Radar remembers that Henry will not make it home; he knows he can not stop it. Of course one of the biggest pieces of evidence against the idea of a time loop is the fact that it does end. Everyone goes home in the end, however, this does not entirely disprove the theory. Many pieces of media that focus on the concept of time loops end with our protagonists escaping. But they can not escape entirely. Though all of our characters leave Korea by the end of the series, those who are still alive have not left completely. They will be stuck remembering this time forever.
While the original intention of M*A*S*H certainly was not to tell a story about a group of army doctors, nurses, and enlisted men trapped in a time loop, that is in many ways the story we got. It is the best showcase of the cycle, the monotonous horror of war in modern media. The only changes come with tragedy, death, or abandonment. It is a time loop in the only ways that matter.
Boy For All Seasons
Part 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Ao3
After that it became rare for the boys not to see each other. Steve always dropped off and picked up the kids from Hellfire but now he came inside and chatted with Eddie while they packed up. Eddie was now a glorified employee of Family Video often helping Steve and Robin put back tapes while they talked about whatever came to mind. Before long, Thanksgiving weekend had arrived.
"Hey Stevie, how many Harringtons do you guys manage to fit in that big house of yours this time of year?"
"What do you mean, Eds?"
"Ya know, for Thanksgiving, oh or do you guys do the visiting, I guess a lot of y'all have big houses. Do you take turns?"
"Um, no, we used to visit my grandma but we haven't since she died when I was little, I think my parents are in Fiji this year."
"But then how do you have Thanksgiving dinner?"
"I...don't, just watch the football game and have a couple beers."
"Well, I'm sure Wayne would love someone who understood the game this year."
"You, you want me to join you for Thanksgiving?"
"Of course, Stevie, besides I'm pretty sure Wayne is signing the adoption papers as we speak."
Steve laughed, "He's known me for like three weeks, Eddie."
"Yeah, and? He's gotta get in quick, knows Dustin's mom's aiming for ya."
Steve smiles, "Ok Eds, I'll be there, but you better not have some turkey costume stocked away."
"Wouldn't dream of it, plus the church already borrowed it."
That weekend Steve was welcomed into the home of the Munsons.
"I brought pie," Steve said wrapped in a soft sweater when Eddie answered the door.
"You know you didn't have to bribe me, sweetheart, but it is much appreciated," Eddie replied taking the pie as Steve stepped inside.
"Game started yet?"
"Not yet, which side you rooting for, son?"
"Lions all the way, I have some pride after all. Better not be putting on the Cowboys game either."
Eddie barely understood what had been said but the look on Wayne's face made it clear this was the right answer. Eddie finished up dinner while gazing foundly at the two men on the couch. The air was warm and comfortable despite the time of year, if Eddie allowed himself to dream it felt like family, but he didn't want to get his hopes up just yet.
The three of them crowded round the too small table for dinner, Wayne making a little speech as he carved the turkey. They went around and said what they were thankful for this year.
"I'm thankful for the plant giving me a bonus so we could have this beautiful bird tonight."
"I'm thankful for Stevie for allowing me not to have to watch the game again this year."
"I'm thankful for both of you having me here tonight."
"We wouldn't want you anywhere else, Steve."
Later, after they'd shared pie around and it was time for Steve to head back home, Eddie stopped him.
"Hey, it's late why don't you just crash here?"
"That would be great actually if it's not too much trouble?"
"Course not."
"If you have a spare blanket I can just take the couch."
"Nonsense, my bed has plenty of room, c'mon."
Eddie's bed certainly did not have plenty of room for two fully grown boys, but neither of them complained as they lay back to back. Eddie was quick to fall asleep with his bed being nice and warm. For once, he woke up early the next day and was blessed with Steve curled into his chest, a relaxed look gracing his face. Eddie knew then it was too late, his hopes were up and he just hoped they wouldn't be left to fall.
Ma Miles - Ch. 8
Tumblr media
4.1 K words
Bold letters are spoken in English by the Reader to Quaritch.
Thank you all so much for your absolutely amazing response and kind comments! I'm really just so grateful. Each and every comment makes me so incredibly happy, so really; THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
The last chapter had some fun bits which most of you guessed. I just couldn't help myself. That little scene from Pride and Prejudice where Mr. Darcy flexes his hand... Yeah, Quaritch would so do that lol No one noticed that Y/n started thinking of him as Quaritch instead of "the demon" though XD
(I see that people are doing taglists and thought that it might be fun, so if you want to be tagged with the updated chapters, please leave your @ myusername in the comments)
Previous chapter | Masterpost | Chapter 9
Turning for what had to be the thousandth time that night, Quaritch let his eyes rest upon his bedroom wall, his eyes landing on the slight imperfections of the metal. His mind would not leave him alone this night, constantly replaying scenes from previous days every time he closed his eyes. His hand still warmed uncomfortably from where you had gripped his hand when he had helped you down from your banshee.
It was ridiculous. He was a grown-ass man and this was definitely not his first rodeo - Spider was enough proof of that. Still, his son’s mother made something within him flutter uncomfortably, making him act a fool where he’d usually have a calm and collected mind. Quaritch didn't understand what was happening with this new body of his.
Flying the banshee had been exhilarating, but having to sit behind Y/n was anything but. He could feel every movement of the mighty beast beneath him, could feel how Haw-nu pushed his mighty wings up and down, speeding them both through the air, drifting along as the landscape below flew by ridiculously fast. He had loved every second of it.
When you had told him that you thought they were ready for their own banshees, his mood had improved even greater. His plan was finally getting them somewhere, slowly growing the seed he’d planted all those weeks ago when you had come knocking on his door. Learning the way of the Na’vi was working better than he had anticipated. Still… there was something not quite right with him. He could feel it in the wee hours of the night, in the way he woke up in the mornings and throughout the day. Did these natives go through heat cycles? He would have to check in with one of the quacks about it. There wasn’t a flying chance in hell that he’d let a local tail distract him from his mission just because he hadn’t wet his pen in a while.
Stepping out of bed, Quaritch furrowed his brows at how his spine seemed to crack. This body was supposed to be twenty years old and not fifty as he felt. Popping his spine and joints, he gets up and hastily puts on a pair of standard-issued sweats before he’s out of his door and stomping down the halls. Getting to the gym, he heads straight for the weights, not caring about easing into his session. He needed his body to burn with something else than… Just with anything besides the fiery pit burning low in his abdomen.
The darkness of Pandora slowly caved way for the blinding sun and the scorching, humid heat that came with it. It will be another sweat-fest today, much like every single day since he first came to this wretched planet. His body temperature was much too high for this environment. He missed the cold seasons back home, missed stepping out of his front door, only to feel his skin freezing before he got the chance to pull his protective gear up over his face. Hell, he even missed dry heat that had him soaked with sweat whenever the sun got around to shine on Kansas. He missed… Earth.
Instead, he had been stuck in this godforsaken humid hell hole for the better part of his life, even being brought back to life after dying. It seemed like Pandora wasn’t finished with him yet. Well, he would give it everything he got this time around. Roughly wiping the sweat off of his face, Quaritch sat up from the bench, scowling at nothing in particular. He had to be stronger. Firmer - or else Pandora would chew him up and spit him out again. The plan was to get their banshees today and if they were to stand a chance against the flying beasts, they would need some serious tranquilizers, something Y/n definitely wouldn’t approve of. By leaving you at the base and bringing Spider alone, he hoped the day would go without a hitch, at least well enough to soothe your ruffled feathers.
“Boss?” His Corporal asks from the entrance, a curious look on his face before he crosses his arms, waiting.
“Get the squad ready, Lyle.” Quaritch grunts as he walks past his second in command. “Gonna go huntin’ today,”
“Hell yeah, Colonel,” Lyle grins, pumping his fist in the air as he turns on his heel, leaving Quaritch alone in the halls.
Huffing to himself, he slams the door to his quarters open. Pulling his wet tank top over his head, distantly he notes how it soggily smacks on the floor as he throws it, but he couldn’t care less. His mood has taken a turn for the worse and when his comm cracks to life, it turns even darker.
“Colonel Quaritch,” General Ardmore greets, and just like that the bottom of his stomach drops.
“General Ardmore,” He greets, pinching the bridge of his nose, “What can I do for you, General?”
“Your reports have been lacking as of late. Mediocre at best.” She starts, her voice harsh - almost screeching to his sensitive ears.
“We are learning the way of the natives, as ordered.” Quaritch offers flatly before continuing, “Our progress has come far enough for the woman to deem us ready to get our banshees, which will grant us access to all of Pandora - undetected.”
“That is good news, Colonel. Keep me informed,” The General tuts happily before the call goes dead.
“Give me strength…” He growls at the empty room, noting how it’s still quiet from the other side of the wall.
Looking out of the floor-to-ceiling windows, he watches as Pandora glitters in the darkness, Eywa’s beauty shining back at him even before the sun has risen. Sighing deeply, he turns back to pick up the wet tank top from the floor before walking into his bathroom. Stripping his shorts, he gets into the shower, letting the warm water wash over him, soothing his increasingly sour mood. How his life had gotten this complicated, he didn’t know. Before Jake Sully, his life had been straightforward, with no ifs and buts about it. He followed orders, kept his men and women as safe as he was able to, and honored those he failed. And just like that, every day repeated. Clenching his teeth hard, Quaritch turned off the shower a bit more aggressively than he should have, breaking the knob. Swearing furiously, he steps out of the shower, silently sending thanks to the person responsible for not putting a glass door inside of it. With his mood and luck, it too would have broken. Stepping out of his quarters he’s not at all surprised to see Lyle and Mansk waiting for him.
“New cargos, boss?” Lyle snickers, eying the way he wears cargo shorts for the first time.  So what if he was a bit late to the party? Although most of the others had been wearing shorts for weeks, he figured he had nothing to lose by trying when they were going banshee hunting. He hated to admit it, but as you had said, they gave him more freedom to move.
Inclining his head in a silent greeting instead, he takes a deep breath before pressing his palm against the biometric scan on the door, waiting for the click. Now, his gramma raised no hooligan before she died.
“I’m coming in,” He announced after knocking harshly, waiting some twenty-thirty seconds before cracking the door open. Just in case they hadn’t heard him.
What he walked in on, however, wasn’t what he had expected. In the bed, Y/n lay curled around his son, Spider gripping onto your chest as he slept soundly. Quaritch noted how your ears twitched at the new sounds in the room, your subconsciousness no doubt letting you know that something was amiss. As time ticked by, he stood there frozen, not daring to move a muscle or breathe too loud in case it would startle you awake. Instead, he took the time to map out the features of your slack face, putting the info away for… something.
Gently stepping up to the bed, Quaritch haunced down, noting how your nose twitched, no doubt recognizing his scent. He could feel his ears drooping as something aching to an emotion he hadn’t felt for a very long time started bubbling up inside of his chest. That emotion didn’t subside when you sleepily reached out a hand toward him, searching the bed behind Spider for his body, only to come up empty. Quaritch watches as your nose scrunches up in confusion before your eyes slowly open. For a split second, they close again as a small, warm smile graces your face, only for your eyes to shoot open with the realization, your smile morphing into a toothy growl as you scoot away from him, taking Spider with you.
“Didn’t mean to scare you, sweetness. Tried knocking, even gave you extra time,” He found himself unnecessarily explaining to you as if you were his personal guest and not a prisoner of war.
Getting up to his feet, he watches as Spider’s head pops out from his mother’s arms, looking more like a baby kangaroo than anything else. His hair was in a state and his face sleep smudged and warm. Chuckling gently to himself, he distantly remembered how hard his own teenage years had been and how inhumanly sleepy he had been those early mornings at military school. Looking at his son, he guessed the apple didn’t fall far from the imaginary m tree.
“How bout this, darling. Imma go brief the unit and in…” Looking down at his watch he noted how they were already ten minutes too late, “say twenty minutes, and I’ll come back,”
Dramatically, Spider grunts as he flops backward in his mother’s arms, drawing both of their eyes to him. Quaritch watches as he yawns and rubs his eyes, mumbling under his breath to himself before he stretches. Letting go of him, Y/n grins as Spider hits the bed, sinking deep into the bedding before emerging with a huge grin, looking up at his mother.
“Okay, okay, I’m awake,” Spider yawns before getting out of bed, “I’m ready to go,”
“You sure about that, kid?” He asks again, not understanding why he even bothers.
“Yeah,” His son stretches as he moves past him, greeting Lyle and Mansk with a lazy wave of his hand.
He turns his head to watch you step out of the bed, eyes trained on him as you walked closer. Reaching his hand out, his fingers wrap around your wrist, halting you on your way to join them. Shaking his head, he was unable to meet your eyes as he grunted a negative to you. Quaritch could feel the stare you had leveled him with hours later as Spider led them through climbing floating rocks. Instead, he decided to focus on the way his son smiled and laughed as they fumbled through the vegetation. He focused on the way his son scrambled to help him, fear in his eyes, as he slipped while swinging on a vine. But most of all, he focused on anything but your warm skin against his palm or the way you reached for him in your sleep. He’s definitely not going to focus on the gentle smile on your face as you sleepily opened your eyes to look at him.
“Come on, keep up losers!” Spider shouts from above them.
Sighing deeply, Quaritch pulls his long body up yet another floating rock, lifting his head to see which path his son takes, following it as closely as he’s able to. In the end, they’re able to reach the top where the banshees were. Crouching low, they follow Spider’s lead, only stopping at what he figured was the closest they would be able to go before the banshees attacked. He, for one, would not be the one to tell Spider’s mother that her son had been harmed, or god forbid; killed, just because Quaritch wanted to get closer to the banshees.
Crouching behind the fallen tree trunk, he was glad Spider had led them to a stop where he did. Up close, the banshees were excitingly feral, screeching and hissing as they spread their wings threateningly. They were magnificent beasts, mighty in a way Earth could never produce. In the middle, a big dark blue and gold colored banshee sat screeching. Although it was huge, it wasn’t even close to Haw-nu’s size. Still, instinctively, Quaritch knew that this was the banshee for him, and by the way it snapped its powerful jaws at him, it had decided to kill him. Beside him, his Corporal is reading the rifle, the tranquilizer dart sliding into place as he snaps it into place.
“I’ve got this,” He grunts, taking the rifle from Lyle. Aiming the weapon at the big banshee he’s getting ready to fire when Spider chuckles by his side. “What?”
“Na’vi kids younger than me do this with their bare hands,” Spider smirks, so obviously looking down on him for taking the easy way out.
“Jake Sully, did it the hard way?” Quaritch can’t help the competitiveness from ruling his actions, the words just falling out of his mouth before he even registers what he’s said.
“What do you think?” The deadpan look on Spider’s face, combined with the eye roll sets something off inside of him
Sucking his teeth, he gives the rifle back to Lyle before stepping over the fallen tree they were taking cover behind, officially entering the fight with the banshee. Hell, if Sully could get a banshee the hard way, then so could he. Readying his braided ponytail, Quaritch tactically steps closer, eyes zeroed in on the banshee’s movements. The beast cried loudly as it spread its long wings before hissing at him, extending its sharp row of teeth in a way he didn’t know they could.
“It’s just you and me, Cupcake,” He growls, grinning widely as he dances even closer to it.
The banshee hisses at him again and in a show of defiance, he hisses right back at it, squaring his shoulders to appear larger. It’s what the banshee has been waiting for as it pushes its long neck forward, snapping its powerful jaws at him. And just like that, the fight has started. Stepping away from the huge, snapping head, Quaritch twists his upper body and delivers a heavy blow to the side of the banshee’s head. The impact makes his fist burn, but he’s unable to do anything about it as the punch seemed to have angered the banshee even more. Turning its head towards him again, it snaps its powerful jaws at him again and again. He’s barely able to jump away from the sharp teeth each time, but in the end, he’s forced to jump onto the banshee’s neck to avoid the snapping mouth.
The landing isn’t ideal, not by a long shot. He manages to wrap his long arms around the banshee’s neck, his legs flailing on both sides, trying to get a good grip as the beast moves frantically beneath him. The banshee quickly lifts its head, successfully throwing him up in the air as it lowers itself to the ground again. Quaritch manages to hold on with one hand to the long tsulu-thing, but as his heavy body comes down to straddle the banshee’s long neck, the landing fails miserably. As his heavy body crashes against the solid neck of the banshee, his privates take the force of both of their bodies colliding. In the distance, he can hear most of his unit groan in sympathy while others chuckle.
“Did I mention you were supposed to tie their mouth shut first?” Spider shouts over the sound of your fighting, the grin on his face all but making him glow with humor.
“Thank’s a lot kid,” Quaritch growls out, trying his best to hold onto the thrashing banshee.
It’s just a split moment of inattentiveness, but as he already has experienced, it only takes a split second for shit to go to town. Before he knows what’s happening, the banshee throws itself over the cliff top, diving through the air as he clings to it for dear life. Their descent is going too fast and at times, they barely manage to steer clear of cliffs, vines, and floating rocks. Quaritch doesn’t know how he did it, but suddenly he’s connected to the banshee. He’s immediately flooded with a sense of panic, of fear. It’s probably his own feelings, but just for a moment, he understands what Y/n talked about while you were both flying on Haw-nu.
“Shut your pie hole and get on with it,” He growls as he harshly tugs on the banshee’s antennas to clamber on.
It’s touch and go as they continue to plummet to their deaths, but then something seems to click. The banshee straightens, her wings soaring through the air as she takes him up once more. Climbing the mountain face they had been falling down, Quaritch couldn’t help the excited whooping that left his throat. The grin on his face felt juvenile and the new input in his head exhilarating. His banshee liked his excitement at flying, liked how it made the constant buzzing in his head quiet down to a numb blur instead. In turn, it made Quaritch feel… almost content - childish even. As they climbed the mountain face, he couldn’t wait to show his unit just what a magnificent banshee he’d gotten. Screeching approvingly at his pride, he couldn’t help but answer her scream with a whooping shout of his own just as they came back to the clearing they had fallen from.
“Yes - that's right!” Quaritch grinned, pumping his fist in the air as pride soared through him. His unit, who had been on their way back, turns back in excited relief to greet him with smiles and excitement of their own.
“Yeah Colonel, get some!” He could hear Lyle shout back at him as he twisted and turned around with his banshee.
“Who’s up next?” The happiness that coursed through him was almost too much. He hadn’t felt this happy since… Hell if he knew.
The banshee matched his excitement, their connection feeding off of each other as she spread her wings and screeched, obviously loving the excited attention she was getting. Oh, he had a diva alright - but what a mighty beauty she was. As the rest of his unit got their banshees, he couldn’t help but sit astride her, feeling her thoughts and her excitement as each banshee got its rider. By the time everyone got their mount, night was just around the corner from the setting sun.
Calling in that they would get back on their own, Quaritch gestured to Spider to come closer. The kid didn’t have to be told twice, jumping from the tree he was sitting on before running over to them. For a split second, Quaritch worried that his banshee would be aggressive towards his son, but as he neared, she simply turned her head to greet him, pushing her muzzle against his stomach as he gave her a quick cuddle. Through their connection, he got the slight feeling that she had just thought of him as stupid.
“What’s her name?” Spider asks once he’s gotten into the right position in front of him.
“Dunno, kid… Y/n would have been spot on, but I guess Cupcake is as good a name as any?” Quaritch mumbles as he thinks about it.
“Why would you call her Y/n?” His son turns his head to look up at him, confusion written all over his face.
“They’re much alike,” He scrambles out, his heart beating faster in his chest as he almost slipped out. There was no doubt in his mind that what was said on their little adventures would be repeated to his mother. No need to make the woman angrier with him than she already was.
His son hums, deep in thought before turning around again, seemingly accepting his explanation. Snaking his hand around to support Spider’s frame, Quaritch lets his mind wander- The wind against his face is relaxing, the connection to Cupcake strong as she soars through the skies. By the time they reach base, the sun shines its last rays on Pandora before bathing it in darkness. Spider chats excitedly all the way to the cafeteria, through the halls and when they’re nearing their quarters, he runs on ahead trying to open the door to their room only to rudely be stopped in his tracks.
Chuckling, Quaritch opens the door for him, watching as Spider runs into it. Jumping into his mother’s open arms, a sting goes through his chest as he watches the scene before him. Spider chats excitedly, animating every scene with wild gesticulations and sound effects as he rushes through their day. The grin that crosses his face when he turns back to look at him, including him in this little family reunion of sorts, takes Quaritch’s breath away. Spider looks so happy, so content, that it’s almost painful to watch.
“Mom, you should have seen him!” Spider grins as he takes his arm, pulling him further into the room to stand before his mother.
“He challenged the Ikran head-on as if he’d grown up on Pandora. He stepped up to her and when she hissed at him, he hissed right back, barely dodging her bite when she struck at him,” Spider’s excitement was comparable with a young child on a sugar rush, his eyes huge and his grin even bigger as he continued to retell the happenings of the day.
“Then he punched her hard and jumped onto her back - and mom, he didn’t bind her mouth shut,” The laughter that left Spider’s mouth would forever be ingrained into his mind. With equal parts happiness and excitement, he laughed until tears sprung forth in his pretty little brown eyes.
“Cupcake dived down the mountain with him and he hadn’t even managed to make tsaheylu with her yet. We thought for sure he had just died,” Behind him, he could hear Lyle chuckle as the grin grew even bigger on Spider’s face as your eyes grew wide, snapping up to look at him - and was that worry for his wellbeing he saw?
“Thanks for your vote of confidence, kid,” Quaritch drawls, rolling his eyes with a smirk on his face.
“He named her Cupcake instead of your name though,” Spider continues, his excitement never ending.
“Why would he call his Ikran my name?” You ask, a confused look on your face as you first look at him and then down at Spider again, but before Quaritch manages to halt their boy, he’s on again - much to his unit’s joyful glee.
“I don’t know, he said you were very similar,” Spider offers, his own face scrunched up with confusion.
“Alright, that’s enough, sport. You don’t have to repeat everything,” Heat blooms over his cheeks as your sharp eyes lift to meet his. He’s unable to help himself from sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck while Mansk joins Lyle’s laughter.
“What does Cupcake mean?” You ask him, eyes holding his as you wait for his reply.
“It’s uh - It’s a term of endearment, sweetheart,” He explains clumsily, rolling his eyes at the way his men snort behind him. To his relief, your eyes widen as a warm smile spreads across your face.
“You have grown, Miles Quaritch,” You praise him, happiness spreading on your soft features as you pull Spider back against your body to hug him tight.
Feeling short of breath, he nods hastily before turning, leaving you behind. Passing Lyle and Mansk’s grinning faces, Quaritch presses past them before hastily slapping his palm on his door, entering and shutting it before they can come at him. Leaning back against the door, he slowly sinks down to the floor, his hand resting over his quickly beating heart as he breathes deep, sucking in as much air as he’s able to in an attempt at slowing down his racing heart. It doesn’t work, because of fucking course it doesn't. All he sees when he closes his eyes are your sharp, warm eyes looking at him with something painfully aching to fondness.
Just thinking the word makes anger course through him, but damn him to hell and back, he couldn’t help but revel at the way his stomach fluttered and his heart soared. Maybe… But he couldn’t allow the thought to manifest in his mind. Couldn’t allow his mind to go there. Instead, he crawls forward, getting into position as he starts his punishment. By the time his body collapsed on him, unable to do another push-up, you would be far away from his thoughts.
At least, that’s what he hoped…
Audio Drama Sunday, 12/4/22
Yesterday was a long, big, busy Sunday, filled with some amazing audio dramas that I must share with all of you.
Dead Air, by Realm Media (created by Gwenda Bond) - If you like the true crime genre of podcasts, then a fictional version might just be up your alley. It's suspenseful, emotional, and filled with dark, dry humor. I've been devouring it recently, stopping just short of binging the entire thing in a single setting. I'm not a true crime fan, but I'm still hooked. If you liked Arden, I think you'll like this show.
Greater Boston, by Alexander Danner and Jeff Van Dreason - Humor, surrealism, quiet drama are all at the heart of Greater Boston. I know it's been around for a while and has a huge fandom but I'm excited that I get to experience this show for the first time six years after it started. Once I finish, I have a feeling I'll start the series over again without missing a beat.
A Ninth World Journal, by David S. Dear - The ultimate actual play turned audio drama, A Ninth World Journal episodes might be short but they are packed to the gills with content and keep you guessing as to what is going to happen next. David S. Dear is a fantastic narrator I've heard on several other shows at this point and it's wonderful to see him shine as the star.
Exoplanetary, by C. Christopher Heart - Managing to weave half a dozen sci-fi stories together in a nonlinear fashion without getting things too confusing is no easy task, but Exoplanetary as not only done just that, but thrived at it and keeps me coming back for new stories and new angles. It's filled with heart and emotion that stay with you long after the episodes is finished. From robotic love to colonialism to time travel, this show has it all.
Among the Stars and Bones, by Ungodly Hour Productions - Technically this will be my third listen but each time I get something more out of it, I feel more for the characters and understand their motivations. Telling a story from 8 or 9 limited viewpoints is a great way to employ the unreliable narrator, or as it happens, 8 or 9 unreliable narrators. I've seen recently that they are casting for season 2 and I cannot contain my excitement!
Old Gods of Appalachia, by DeepNerd Media - Folk horror, when done right, is better than any subgenre of any genre of literature, bar none. I will live and die on this hill. Old Gods does folk horror the right way. There's mood and atmosphere, a sense of place and a sense of dread. The show will have you jumping at shadows and creepy noises down by the creek at the witching hour.
The Town Whispers, by Cole Weavers - While similar to Old Gods of Appalachia, The Town Whispers takes cosmic horror and turns it up to 11 alongside all the folk horror that creeps around the edges of the Fort. The story telling is sharp and a sense of doom and dread purvey every word Mr. Weavers speaks. It's beautiful and chilling and leaves me needing more.
Malevolent, by Harlan Guthrie - It's a simple premise, guy wakes up unable to see with a creepy voice in his head that is not his own. Oh also there's a dead body, also there are monsters running around, oh also lots of creepy books, oh also it's set in the heart of Lovecraft Country. What could go wrong? I'm late to the party on the fandom for this show but as I work through the episodes I see why the fandom has exploded Hannibal style all over Tumblr.
Hi Nay, by Motzi Dapul - What if the Magnus Archives were less focused on Eurocentric monsters and fears and entities? What if there was a less organized group of people going after them? What if all of it was recorded lo-fi and given a health dose of Filipino folklore? Well, you'd have Hi Nay and you'd sweep the internets with a new, obsession worthy podcast that teaches as much as it entertains. Also they are working on getting 1000 subs on Youtube so get on that people!
The Kingmaker Histories, by Meg Molloy Tuten - Made by the same geniuses that brought us Less is Morgue, this audio drama gives us a glimpse at a steampunk world filled with magic. I enjoyed the first episode immensely. The acting, the script, the sound design are all top notch. Have to say I love this Ariadne character, she seems nice.
Moonbase Theta, Out, by D.J. Sylvis - Dystopian futures, corrupt governments, sinister warnings about the moon. Sounds like a typical day in 2022, right? Moonbase Theta, Out was and is ahead of its time in terms of storytelling, narratives, and characters. It's really a who's who in the world of audio drama with "famous" voices popping in and out to voice characters that will make you do the Leo pointing meme at least twice and episode.
WOE.BEGONE, by Dylan Griggs - Part surrealist sci-fi, part existential horror, WOE.BEGONE is a show that makes me want to run away screaming whilst at the same time binging more and more episodes. How deep does this creepy, deadly game go? What is the point of it all? Will Mike just be able to relax and have a nice time? I need to know!!!
And 195, by Guendalina Cilli - I just found out about this audio drama yesterday and I'm already a fan. I'm a runner with a bad sense of direction myself so the basis of the show is very, very familiar to me (aside from getting lost in other dimensions, that's not familiar but you never know in these days).
We Fix Space Junk, by Battle Bird Productions - Dystopian space dramas are a trope for a reason, but We Fix Space Junk manages to avoid the pitfalls and enjoy all the benefits of said trope. It's fresh, fun, and exciting. I've decided it was time for a re-listen to see what things I missed out on in the beginning that are integral parts of the show by the end. I'm already having a blast!
Care & Feeding of Werewolves, by Brenna Anderson-Dowd - What if True Blood were a sitcom, but far better than the sum of those two parts? What if it were funny and informative, silly and meaningful? You'd have Care & Feeding of Werewolves and you'd enjoy every single episode of this weird little show, and I do mean that endearingly. If it weren't weird, it wouldn't be nearly as fun.
damn i wish i had found better info on reddit about where to start hermitcraft, cause a mot of the posts that popped up suggested season 6, since those posts were older and i didnt see any others, and i was the most familiar with grian so i decided to start there and while season 6 is very fun it doesnt pull me in as much as the life series or now some of the other seasons ive started because unless i just watch the recaps its Very slow and theres less collaborating
i think its nice sometimes to just sit and listen to grian and not have too much chaos of other peoples voices popping in if i wanna relax, but ive started season 8 and been mainly watching gem first and the experience is SO different, ive watched some of grians too and its not because of Who im watching (though i love gem and i find her content very soothing) but because theres so much more interaction with the other hermits because of the voice chat(maybe its a mod? there wasnt really any in 6) and it feeling more collaborative
and i obviously started 10 when it aired and i Loved how much everyone interacted and i felt like i got to know more of the hermits, rather than grian being off more isolated and only really learning about them in recaps
also i think season 8 might be easier for me cause its the shortest, and im excited/only a little afraid to start season 9 after (might go back and watch the recaps for the rest that have them later)
ive always loved minecraft videos that if they feature a server/group, everyones able to interact together and be collaborative
i dont mind watching someone solo just building or doing a tutorial, but its nice when theres still an element of basically all living in the same world together and interacting and shopping and all that, since i dont get to play minecraft with anyone else its nice to live vicariously
Ninjago Ship Thoughts
First and foremost I’m gonna tell you my head-canons for the ninjas sexualities since it’s probably gonna affect my thoughts on the ships.
Cole - Gay - the entire “dad I’m a ninja” is so fucking queercoded so that’s my reasoning.
Kai - Bi - this man primarily flirts with women but he gives strong bisexual energy and I stand by that.
Zane - Pan - I don’t feel like Zane has a strong enough grasp on gender for it to affect who he dates.
Jay - Omni - I feel like he has a preference for women but I feel in my soul that he’s at least had a crush on a guy before.
Nya - Bi - I don’t know if she’s ever had a crush on a girl but a girl has definitely had a crush on her and she would not be opposed to dating a girl.
Pixal - Pan - I feel like she has a better grasp of gender than Zane but gender doesn’t affect who she likes.
All other characters are up in the air for me. I lean towards seeing lloyd as aroace but I’m not certain. Anyway I’m with my thoughts. (These are in no particular order)
(Jaya) Jay/Nya - let’s start with a canon ship! I like how this relationship is portrayed in later seasons and they have some cute moments earlier in the series, but I definitely like there relationship post Nadakhan the best (I’ve butchered the genies name I know it) Jaya is sweet and I’m happy that Nya was given strong characterizations outside of her relationship with men overall I’d say this is a solid 8/10.
(Pixane) - Zane/Pixal - I love this ship so much, she has half his fucking heart and there both so great. Zane and Pixar are both fully independent who love each other and there so cute. I think one appeal of this ship for me is that I can see the both as romantic or platonic partners because they both mean so much to the other. Anyway love this ship 9.6/10
(Kailor) - Kai/Skylor - I love Skylor she’s super cool but this pair really only interacts once and awhile to briefly flirt before they just go there separate ways. Obviously both of them are busy so it makes sense that they don’t get a lot of time together. Kai definitely had a crush on Skylor and I think Skylor reciprocated those feelings. There cut and interesting but don’t have as much development as they need for me to be compelled to be invested. Solid 6.5/10.
(Llorumi) - Lloyd/Harumi - these two have a fascinating dynamic that I think is really fun to watch but I cannot see them as romantic partners. I know some people see them as siblings and I really don’t see them that way. And again there really interesting as a duo and while I want the pair to heal and improve there relationship I don’t really want them to date. Overall 5/10 cool duo don’t see them as romantic.
(Lloykita) - Lloyd/Akita - It’s pretty cute, I love Akita so I do hope we see her again. There relationship feels like a summer relationship they have this brief sweet period of time together and they leave on good terms unsure if they’ll ever meet again or if the other will still have feelings if they do meet again. I also really like the idea of these to being together in a queer platonic way. It’s really cute and I love both of the characters individually so it’s a pretty solid ship in my opinion. 8/10 it’s sweet.
(Conia) - Cole/Vania - it feels like a lesbian and a gay man being best friends. I love these two I think there great friends and could even see them being platonic partners but like I don’t see them doing more than that. Solid 5/10 cool pair don’t see it as romantic.
(Lava) - Cole/Kai - There so cool and I think this ship is really fun. I think that these two are both really great characters who mesh well I can totally see them dating and think it’s a really cute ship. These two are bonding over there weird ass family lives and crippling self doubt! These two are a cute pair 9/10
(Bruise) - Jay/Cole - these two are so silly and honestly this is a cute ship. I think Cole was definetley involved in Jays realization that he wasn’t straight. I think this is a cute ship but not one I have super strong feelings on 7/10
(Mudshock) - Jay/Cole/Nya - the best solution for a love triangle is polyamory. That said I wasn’t a big fan of the love triangle but in Ninjago since Cole didn’t actually seem interested in Nya, and Nya only was interested in Cole cause a matchmaking system said so. These three are definitely great friends who joke about the love triangle and hang out but I don’t know that it’s my favorite ship. 6.7/10 Cute but not great.
(Polyninja) - Jay/Cole/Kai/Zane - I think this is probably one of the greatest things I have ever seen. All of these characters are so close and care for each other so much. Together they can help each other grow and thrive. It’s really an awesome ship solid 10/10
There are lots of other ships I will talk about but I’m supposed to be doing my summer class final so I’ve gotta go try to be responsible. Anyway have a good day/night I love seeing comments so say hi if you’d like to :D
