It starts with just a note.

Hi.

You know the scratchy handwriting anywhere, after spending a month next to him in Algebra and swapping math notes so Eddie could get the equation down right, you've learned to spot the handwriting nearly a mile away.

But this, what you have with Eddie now all started five months ago at the start of a new school year and the two of you landed in History together. You weren't the type to sit in the back but you didn't love History. You were good at it, but what they taught wasn't always the full truth. It'd been picked over and watered down.

So you sat in the back, to avoid the gaze of Mr. Brown, planning to do just enough to pass the class without raising the alarm of your parents. Eddie gently taps your arm as you're doodling in the corner of your notebook and by the time you look up, peering around to see a folded piece of paper slid across the desk towards you.

You take it, as discreetly as you can from Eddie's retreating fingers and unfold the squares to reveal the single word on the college lined notebook paper.

Hi, Eddie.

Thanks again for your help last year. Promise this year I won't need as much help.

You snicker as you read the note at Eddie's underline the word "as". He's smart, easily distracted and clearly the system's not designed to accomodate people like him. But you know he's good under the surface of leather jacket and wild hair. You grin to yourself as you look back up at the board. Mr. Brown is deep into a lecture and you drop your gaze to look down to respond. I'm always happy to help.

You're nice. Sweet, too. Do you still have Wednesday's free?

You read over the note, freezing for a moment. Eddie's got his head buried in his notebook when you look over to him. I do. Why? What's up?

You slide your respond back over to Eddie and for someone who seems to buried in their notes, Eddie's hand shoots out for the response like a bat out of hell. You smile to yourself, looking back up tp the board and then jot down another line of notes.

Like to make it a long standing study date if it's okay?

Yeah, that's okay. Do you mind coming over? Parents are a little strict about it. Usual time?

You normally, last year, with Eddie would tutor him after school at the library--but given recent events in the town, your parents wanted you home unless there was a group of you out and they knew everyone. You tried not to ruffle feathers. It would only make matters worse.

You sure your parents won't mind? I don't scream bring to your house and have to interact with your parents material.

They're cool--well about some things. Our ritual sacrifice will have to wait for another day.

Eddie giggles, no one outside of the two of you seem to really notice but he fucking giggles as he reads your response. Damn. Was hoping it get it done sooner this year. But as long as you're sure, I'll be over at the usual time.

And with just a simple note, you and Eddie have landed yourself here. Every Wednesday, Eddie pulls into your driveway promptly at 5 but always lingers in the van for a few minutes to make sure he's not catching your family in the middle of prayer. He pulls out his backpack from the floor of the passenger seat and prays to whomever is above that the smell of his pail hasn't lingered too bad.

When he thinks the coast is clear, he piles out of the van, knocks on the front door is always immediately greeted by your father. It's always with a smile. "Come, come in," your father greets as always patting Eddie on the shoulder.

The house always smells alive--spices Eddie can't put a name too, but your mother is always happy to offer whatever she's been cooking or snacks. Eddie takes them with a smile and settles down at the kitchen table. And like clock work as Eddie settles down at the kitchen table, you come down the hallway, voice huffing as your sister clings to you.

"I swear if you steal another one, our parents will have to bury you."

Eddie laughs, fingers toying at the rings of his notebooks as you come down the hallway. You smile at him, books in hands and just behind you is your sister, a clip in her scarf that Eddie is yours. Clearly it's not that important because she's still wearing it but Eddie likes watching the way you and your sister interact. You settle down across from him and your sister waves at him. He waves back.

"Where did we leave off?" you ask with a huff, watching the way Eddie's gaze softens when he turns it full to you. You're not sure what the look is supposed to mean, but it makes your stomach flutter just a little.

Eddie blinks, dropping his gaze back down to his notebooks. "World World II I'm pretty sure," he answers.

"Lovely."

You watch Eddie shift in the wooden chair and the bangs start to stick on his forehead. The house is warm with the addition of the oven going and your mother at the stove. Eddie always shows up, no matter how hot it is outside in a flannel.

"Is it too warm?" you ask, getting up to fix a glass of water and grab some paper towel off the role.

Eddie clears his throat after taking a sip. "Thanks. I'm okay."

"The house is not going to go into flames if you take off the layer. I promise. The tattoos are fine, you know."

Eddie ducks his head. "Just-just wanted to be respectful," he laughs.

"You literally sit here for like an hour and a half once a week and you don't even need help in History. You could be anywhere, but you're here. You don't have to prove anything else." You motion at the flannel. "Go on."

Eddie's cheeks turn pink and it's not with the heat of the kitchen before he slowly peels himself out of the red flannel that he stole from Wayne.

"Tada," you laugh. "You flames, no Hell bursting wide open. I don't believe the rumors anyhow."

"Thanks," Eddie whispers. "For giving me the chance."

"Of course."

He realizes as he starts to form the words that he probably shouldn't ask here. But also it doesn't hurt to ask here either. "Think I can stretch my luck and get a date?"

At that you laugh as you hear your dad groan and push off the sofa. "Gotta ask the big guy first," you nod over your shoulder.

"What's this I hear about a date? Where are we going?"

Depending on what you want to get manifested, you should look at one method or another. For example, for material things: a list written in blue and taking it with you may be the correct method. However, to manifest a specific person or relationship, a letter to the Universe you can hide and forget later would be a more satisfying method.
