◟ CHARACTER HEADCANON: HEARTSTEEL YONE ◝

you know what they say about feeling lonely even when you're surrounded by people?

yone feels that kind of lonely.

sometimes i think about how he's got this massive burden on his chest; this horrible, life-threatening secret that he can't share with anyone, not even his most beloved younger brother, because bringing to light the existence of the Azakana could literally throw modern Runeterra into a state of apocalyptic chaos. just speaking an Azakana's name can give it strength, depending on how you say it, so imagine if the world knew of them.

&& yone's been carrying this burden ever since he drowned in that lake and died. he's grown up knowing he's not really alive, and that at any point in time he could die if the Azakana wins out. any normal person would've succumb to grief and despair, but his vehement desire to protect humans has kept him going, even when the weight of this knowledge became too much to bear

sometimes yone wants to give up.

sometimes yone just wants to lay down and let the afterlife carry him away.

yone has made an attempt on his own life in the past.

but then he met heartsteel.

he met sett, he met aphelios, he met kayn and ezreal and k'sante and alune. and he realized that there was still so much in this world left for him. that even if he couldn't share that burden with any of them, just knowing they're all alive and safe gives him a little more inspiration to keep trying.

and though he feels alone, even when he's with them, that burden becomes just a little bit lighter. he only wishes... he only wishes that there was someone out there he could share his secret with. he doesn't get close to people, not even the band itself, out of fear of putting the other's in danger. but he hopes one day... there will be someone out there he can be completely vulnerable with.

i actually really like Batman Incorporated (the team) in that I find each member interesting but there is a very small group of people that have actually read Batman Incorporated (the comics) in any capacity.

And a chunk of them are middle aged men that like Batman Incorporated (the comic) and praise Morrison for “such a good story” which is. Eh.

None of the stories in any of the 3 batman inc runs are good in any capacity. But the characters are great and I would just like to find the people that love the individual characters as much as I do.

i also answered this one here but something that reminds me of home now is stars and sunsets. my partner is really into space and loves showing me the stars and planets and telling me all about the stuff he's learned and what new things we're discovering. and every morning he likes showing me the sunrise before he leaves for work and he loves when i go on walks with him to see the sunset in the evenings. idk they just remind me of him and he's home for me now

listen there really was just something about how in the book, snow’s 3-page descent from hesitant lover boy to deluded psychopath happens entirely in his mind. lucy gray gives him no indication whatsoever that she suspects him, that she’s going to leave or betray him. he’s just sitting quietly in the cabin waiting for her to return when that seed of calculated suspicion, which he has needed to survive the capitol, takes a hold of him and chokes the life out of any goodness left inside him. it really drives home your terror as a reader that “oh my god did he kill her? did she escape? what happened to her? why would he even think that?” in a way that when the movie had to adjust for visualization it lost some of that holy shit this guy has lost it emphasis.

#seeing some discourse and im not saying lucy grey didnt know #im saying she never dropped the kind of hints that she knew like she did in the movie #or if she did snow isnt worried about them until he very suddenly is consumed by them #snow is not concerned about whether or not she believed him. of course she did! hes snow! #but then shes gone…. for a while…… #and its the sudden immediate drastic unravelling that comes across so clearly in the book #that i knew wouldn’t translate to screen yet still cant help but miss #the hunger games #coriolanus snow #tbosas #lucy gray baird #not a crime or anything just a note that i cannot stop thinking about #the ballad of songbirds and snakes #this is all from memory of reading it quite a while ago. so maybe 3 pages is an exaggeration #but i remember it happening VERY quickly and without much external cause #like we as the reader have no indication as to whether shes nearby or not. #snow has no idea either. he just SUSPECTS. and his suspicion breeds the hatred that has been bubbling inside him all this time #he hates how she undoes him. he hates that he WOULD run away with her if shed let him keep his secrets #and he HATES more than anything that she makes him WANT to tell his secrets #he wants to be vulnerable and reveal the ugly nasty parts about himself and still be loved #but he does not let himself and it is everyone’s downfall #he chooses cruelty bc it is easy and familiar and makes him feel more powerful than the vulnerable give and take that real love requires

there is something unique and deeply special about monkey d luffy as a protagonist. he’s overwhelmingly ADORED by the fandom. he’s consistently the most or at least top 3 most popular characters in the whole series. peoples takes about him are gushingly positive. and that’s… really uncommon.

a LOT of fandoms i’ve witnessed or been in have a tendency to favor characters other than the main character. especially in anime. the main characters are often written as a blank slate for readers/watchers to project onto, but that makes them not as interesting and so they don’t get the fan attention.

but luffy is so far from that. and he’s ALWAYS been this way. we love him so much. he’s the heart of the story and the heart of the fandom in every single way. and i think that speaks to how well-written he is as a character. he’s fun and charming and complex and interesting and he makes us laugh and cry and cheer and hope and love. he’s able to inspire so much joy in people, both in his world but also in this one. and i think that’s really special. i feel so grateful to have found this story that means so much to me, and i’m so grateful that luffy exists.

Hate (affectionate) how it's made so clear from the very beginning of part 1 just how loved Paul is by his family and household. Both his parents, Duncan, Gurney, Thufir, even Dr Yueh all clearly care so deeply for this kid, and we're shown that time and time again.

Cut to the end of part two, and almost every one of those people is gone. The only ones who remain are a weird, came-back-wrong version of Jessica, and Gurney who has gone from mentor to worshipper. Paul goes from someone deeply loved and valued for who he is by a small but caring group of people - to someone followed and worshipped and feared by thousands. They're obsessed with him in a way, as a leader and "messiah", but nobody loves him.

The only one remaining who loves him for who he is is Chani, who leaves him because in the end that love isn't enough to bring who he is back.
