Wish there was a way for Horikoshi to been able to merge the main series and Viligantes together. 😢 Indulge in that worldbuilding and lore he so clearly loves.
Viligantes is so good omg. We get a look at Hero society through the eyes of the regular (and some not so regular) civilians. There’s such a big sense of community: that the city feels real and lived in, that it’s citizens care about their home and its ongoings, that their lives are affected by the battles between superpowered dumbasses but hey, they’re used to it and make do.
Even a lot of the antagonists: they cause a fuss, get slap around by heroes (and vigilantes) and given a warning, but ultimately they are still members of the community. They change, they mature, they atone, they’re just part of this world.
(To be fair, most of them aren’t Villains out to destroy society. Just punks, using their quirks as troublemakers do. Actually, when the really bad Villains show up, they’re just as terrified and ready to help the protags.)
These are the people that Heroes protect and interact with - the whole (supposed, ideally) *reason* for Heroes to exist. I get MHA is shonen and you need ridiculous flashy battles, but still! Wish the kids weren’t confided in that fancy academy of theirs.
(Plus, the impact of the Villains would be much more powerful and horrific, from a emotional story investment standpoint. Shigaraki can level a city full of no-faced background characters, and we don’t even really see the people on page? Alright, evil, but cool.
Shigaraki will be disintegrating this neighborhood of people we got to know and smile at their antics - the cute street performer, those two guys, that trio of punks? And I care about them just cuz, not that they’re family or related to the main Heroes? Nauseous to think about, even if I love Shigaraki.)
The protag Koichi, I love him. He’s a pretty normal guy who wants to do good. And we’re shown that right away, first chapter - he picks up trash, helps out people on the street, he tries to stop fights. He likes doing all that. The little things. If only we were shown Midoriya Izuku doing the same thing. 😒 I don’t care how he is now or whatever - first chapter should’ve had him doing all that community service, and catches the attention of All Might because of that true heroic spirit of making the world better, even if slightly. Yes I still dislike him and I always will, sorry.

Reconnect 1
Andi and Todoroki used to be very close friends in high school, but after they graduated, they grew apart. Now, 4 years later, they have work together to take down an evil more sick then Tomura Shigaraki and more twisted then the Hero Killer Stain. What's in store for our two heroes? Will they defeat the evil? Will they reconnect the old flame of friendship they had when they were younger? Will that fire grow into something more? Or will all be lost when they find out that they can't defeat this villain?
I own Andria/Andi and her quirk Nightmare Creation. I own all art (aside from the cover) that will be posted with the chapters unless specified otherwise. I own the story, do not plagiarize I do not own My Hero Academia I do not own Shoto Todoroki or the other characters from the anime.
Crash!!
A van flew through the air and landed upside down on a pickup truck. The streets were in chaos. Civilians were running in panic, news crews were rolling up on the scene. Streets were torn apart and rubble was everywhere. Standing in the middle of the chaos was a villain, one that didn't look all that powerful, until they showed off their pure force with their quirk called vector, named so after their villain alias.
One news woman and her cameraman were brave enough to get close to the wreckage to get a clear shot of the villain as their semi visible arms threw cars in every which direction. She brought the mic up to her mouth, showing the new station logo as she directed her attention to the cameraman.
"You've got the shot, right?" she confirmed. Getting a nod from the cameraman and the signal from him that he was rolling she started speaking. "Good afternoon, Tokyo. I'm Mikashi reporting live from the scene of the villain Vector wreaking havoc here in Downtown Shinjuku." She and the cameraman ducked as a car went flying over their heads. "As you can see, he's been thrown into a rage and there doesn't seem to be anything that can calm him down. We haven't seen any heroes on the scene yet, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they show up to save the day."
At that moment, spires of ice erupted from the ground, moving quickly towards the villain who was gearing up to throw yet another car in the direction of the reporter.
"Strike that, it looks like our first hero just appeared on the scene," the woman said.
She turned around to see a young man with red and white hair in a navy blue hero costume walk up. His right side was covered in ice that was rapidly melting as the left side was alight with flames.
"It's Shoto!" she said, sounding more than a little excited.
* * *
The young hero walked through the halls of his house, ignoring his cats that begged for his attention knowing full well that he was following his daily routine. Todoroki padded along the polished floor until he reached a sliding door. Quietly opening it, he stepped in.
The room beyond the door was barren, empty of any furniture. The floor was padded, a far cry from the hardwood flooring in the rest of house. Setting down a water bottle and a towel, Todoroki started running through hand to hand combat drills, his daily workout.
He had just barely started when his phone started ringing. Sighing, he stopped his exercise and walked over to where he left it, tapping the screen and putting it to his ear.
"Hello?" he said.
"Shoto!" came the voice of one of his sidekicks. "There's a villain calling himself Vector tearing up downtown Shinjuku!"
"On my way," he said.
Without another word he hung up his phone. He left the training room and immediately walked to where he kept his costume. In a matter of seconds, he was dressed and ready to go. As he walked to the door, he bent down and scratched his cats behind their ears before he finally walked off to save the day.
He always has time for his cats.
It didn't take horribly long to get to downtown Shinjuku as he didn't live very far, but when he got there, the scene was utter chaos. The street was broken and bits of asphalt were scattered everywhere. Cars were upturned and smashed, some on top of others. The sounds of scared screaming and car alarms and news reporters filled his ears. As he scanned the chaos, he finally found the source of it all.
In the middle of a crater in the ground stood a man. He looked rather plain for someone to be causing all of this chaos. Upon closer examination he noticed that coming out from the man's back were these translucent arms, dozens of them. They reached out and lifted up a car, getting ready to throw it.
So his arms are super strong, huh? He thought to himself. This might not be as easy as I thought.
Just before Vector threw the car, Shoto stepped forward with his right foot. Ice immediately coated the ground, rapidly rushing towards Vector. As the ground turned icy, spires of deadly sharp ice shot from the ground. It managed to clip Vectors leg, holding him fast to the ground. Shoto let out a puff of breath turned visible by the cold. As he walked forward, his left side erupted into flame to regulate his temperature. As he walked, he just barely recognized the voice of the most daring news caster call out his hero name.
"Didn't anyone ever tell you that throwing cars was wrong?" Shoto said.
Vector turned his attention to Shoto and laughed. "Didn't anyone tell you to save those witty one-liners for the professionals?" he said before he threw the car at Shoto.
Without even thinking Shoto lifted his left hand and the same fire that regulated his body temperature shot from his hand and hit the car head on. The sheer force of the impact redirected it just enough so that it landed harmlessly to the side of him.
"Cute," Shoto said. "Now it's my turn."
He stepped forward once more and focused just enough to use Giant Ice Wall on the villain. It was usually enough to stop anything that tried to come after him or threaten the civilians of Japan. He hadn't expected Vector to actually be able to dodge it. The only one who had been able to do that was Ground Zero during their freshman sports festival. So he was taken completely off guard when another car came flying towards him, a direct path to crush him under its weight.
Shoto lifted his hand to try to deflect this one again, but he didn't get the chance before he heard a feminine voice shout his name and he was tackled hard to the side. Shoto and his savior tumbled on the ground and the hero wrapped his arms around the slight frame of the woman who called to him. He maneuvered his body so that he landed on the ground under her and when they stopped he opened his eyes to see a head of short black hair.
The woman sat up and violet eyes met his grey and blue ones.
"Knightmare," he said. "What are you doing here?"
"Saw the news, thought you could use the help," she said and stood up, holding out her hand to Shoto. "Hope you don't mind."
Shoto smiled slightly and took her hand, standing up. "Of course not, I was considering calling for backup anyway."
* * *
The hero known as Knightmare, known to her friends as Andi Yoru, sat on her couch, scrolling on her phone. The TV was turned off and she was just spending a day off relaxing at home with her cat. Her hero partner Chargebolt, also known as Denki Kaminari, told Andi that she could take the day off, that he had the today handled. He could see how overworked she was and the toll her quirk was taking on her lately.
And she had to admit, she was grateful for Kaminari's consideration.
But now that she had an entire day to herself and nothing to do, she felt... bored. And admittedly lonely. So she was scrolling through her phone looking at the previous conversations with her old friends from high school.
Not counting Kaminari who she saw every day, Uraraka was the one she talked to the most, next to Midoriya. After that was Iida, Kirishima, Bakugo and Yaoyorozu. The very last on that list was Todoroki. She couldn't help but feel kind of sad about that. The two heroes had been best friends during high school and many of their classmates had thought that the two of them were dating.
But neither of them were ready for such a thing. They were both too focused on becoming heroes to worry about any sort of... relationship beyond close friends. They both had a goal in mind and they weren't about to let emotions get in the way. It was much like Uraraka's resolve about her and Midoriya when they were in school.
Naturally of course, the two of them started dating after graduation while Todoroki and Andi had only grown apart. Andi tried to think about the last time she saw her used-to-be good friend and realized that it had actually been at Uraraka's and Midoriya's engagement party a few months before.
God, Izuku sure is slow when it comes to those things, it's been almost 4 years since they started dating, Andi thought to herself with a slight smile and shake of her head.
She momentarily debated texting Todoroki but decided against it, thinking he might be busy. She was just about to stand up when her cat hopped up on the couch, sitting on the remote control. The TV flicked on and Andi was met with the news report of the hero Shoto arriving on the scene to fight against Vector. Her eyes widened slightly when she got a good view of the villain and his semi visible arms and immediately rushed to change into her hero costume.
Slipping into the black skin suit and pulling the mask over her nose and mouth, she pulled on her bracer, boots and chest plate. She attached her metal rods in their holders to her right thigh and as she ran out of the house she tied her red sash around her waist. The second she was out of the house she focused for the barest of seconds before a pair of grotesque looking bat wings grew from her back. With a running start, Andi jumped and took off in flight, heading towards Shinjuku.
Flying always sped things up and she was glad she had perfected her flight in her third year of high school. She arrived just in time to see a car flying towards Shoto as he was focused on his Giant Ice Wall.
"Shoto!" She cried as she dive-bombed, her wings disappearing from her back.
Her face connected with Shoto's chest and the momentum and force of her fall knocked him out of the way just in time. Knightmare felt his arms wrap around her as he twisted his body to land underneath her as his back slid across the ground. When the two heroes stopped moving, Knightmare lifted her face from his chest and looked down at him as he spoke.
"Good," she said and took her hand back once Shoto was on his feet. "I could use a good villain thrashing anyway."
With a smirk she reached down and grabbed the two small cylindrical rods. Pressing a button on the side, they extended to nearly five times their size, a pair of twin rods the size of perfectly matched swords. Shoto shook his head slightly at her theatrics and they both turned to face vector.
"You ready?" Shoto asked.
"I was born ready," Knightmare replied.
