#and her not knowing that mark was invincible for a large chunk of their relationship is the worst because she just thought he didn't care

For a world as gray as that of season 1's Invincible, the characters viewers loved or hated likely changed from episode to episode (or even minute to minute). Few shows more effectively present ethical and moral dilemmas to their main characters, putting them in difficult situations that no one would be envious of, despite their wonderful gifts.

The right answer is never obvious, and when it appears to be, the consequences have turned out to be dire (for reference check out Invincible teaming up with Titan for the well-being of his family). But the characters who managed to show their best selves despite being placed in such positions are truly ones to admire.
10 Amber Bennett
Tumblr media
If Amber Bennett is any indication, dating a teenage superhero is far from a cakewalk. But writing her off as just the love interest of Mark Grayson is selling her criminally short. Her altruistic nature inspired Atom Eve to redefine herself after spending just a little time with Amber serving food to the homeless.
While she is inherently likable based on her actions, she is hurt by how harshly and unfairly she reacts to Mark's superhero-related absences. Amber's up-and-down relationship with him arguably brings out the worst in her (which may be why a number of viewers are shipping Mark with someone else).
9 William Clockwell
Tumblr media
Honesty is an underrated trait in a friend, making William Clockwell truly underappreciated. Even though Mark kept him in the dark about his powers, William never failed to support him, putting up with all his unexplainable behavior.
He also played a key part in getting Amber and Mark together, acting as Mark's wingman, advice guru, and motivational coach. but his most valuable trait remains his upfront personality, telling Mark what he needs to hear, especially when he doesn't want to hear it, specifically after the events at Upstate University. Despite all that, his absence for large chunks of the season keeps him from rising higher in terms of likability.
8 Black Samson
Tumblr media
The elder statesman of the new Guardians of The Globe, Black Samson is no slouch. Despite being a bit of a blowhard and a stickler for the old-school rules of superhero-ing, he doesn't hesitate to put his life on the line, coming to the aid of Invincible against an opponent he had absolutely no chance of defeating.

Though he's quick to lecture the less experienced members, his critiques and points are usually spot-on, making him an essential member of the team. His likability has room to rise if he mellows out and clashes less often with his fellow Guardians
7 Monster Girl
Tumblr media
It's pretty difficult not to like a hero who pays with their life every time they suit up. Monster Girl's monstrous form is tied to her lifespan, chipping away at it every time she transforms.
Like a few of the younger members of the new Guardians of The Globe, she can be a bit self-involved, prioritizing her own individual battles to the detriment of the team, which definitely hurts her overall likability. Monster Girl first appears in the ring against Rex-Plode, giving him a much-deserved beatdown before ultimately garnering his respect. Despite her chosen superhero name, she rarely fails to put her humanity first.
6 Damien Darkblood
Tumblr media
For such a twisted show, it's only natural that one of its most likable characters literally escaped from hell. First appearing at the scene of the massacre of the original Guardians Of the Globe, Damien Darkblood can chill a room and kill the vibe with his presence alone. His inability to be more personable and sensitive in the way he works is what ultimately caps his likability.
But while he doesn't warm up to many, he's incredibly good at what he does, keying in on Omni-Man as the guilty party before anyone else, further ruffling the feathers of everyone that didn't want to accept the truth. The raw deal he gets for doing his job well only serves to make him that much more admirable.
5 Cecil Stedman
Tumblr media
It's certainly not easy being Cecil Stedman. With the exception of his devoted subordinates, everyone else seems to loathe him. Yet it is hard to find fault with many of his actions or big picture perspective.

His position puts him at odds with his longtime friend Omni-Man, but he doesn't allow any of that to cloud his judgment, accepting the disdain of many, including Debbie Grayson, and not hiding from accountability. Despite his prickly exterior he does right by those around him, helping Debbie and Mark rebuild their lives, and even giving Omni-Man an opportunity to explain himself. However, his coldness in how he operates keeps him from reaching the next tier of likability.
4 Debbie Grayson
Tumblr media
Few, if any, have been affected by the events of season 1 more drastically than Debbie Grayson. What started out as a stable life with a powerless son and a #1 superhero husband, deteriorated into a broken one with a superpowered but damaged son and a mass-murdering absent husband.
But she admirably took the tumbledown head-on, daring to step to Omni-Man and call him out the whole way. She was clever enough to put together the clues and brave enough not to ignore the signs, all while supporting her son on his own journey. However, her devotion to her husband despite learning the truth certainly grated at viewers' patience.
3 Atom Eve
Tumblr media
Possibly the most consistent and assured character in the series, Atom Eve is a model superhero. She is composed, keeping a cool head in the face of serious adversity. She instantly becomes Invincible's confidant for all things high school superhero, setting him straight a number of times.
But her best quality could easily be her fierce independence, which gave her the strength to free herself from bad relationships with both Rex-Plode and her parents that only served to hold her back and keep her from growing as both a person and a hero. The only thing that holds back her likability is her unprofessional decision not to join the new Guardians simply because her ex was also on the team.
2 Invincible/Mark Grayson
Tumblr media
Nobody moved in and out of viewers' hearts quite like Mark. His purest intentions of being a superhero like his dad gave way to selfish desires and actions that affected everyone.

From jumping into the deep end prematurely to wanting to walk away from it altogether, his naivete and hard-headedness made it tough to take his side fairly often, in both his personal and superhero life. But his natural inclination to help others and most notably his bravery in standing up to his dad outweighs every single mistake he made along the way. Someone on that path can certainly one day live up to the audacious name, Invincible.
1 Allen The Alien
Tumblr media
Delightful in part because he's voiced by the breath of fresh air that is Seth Rogen, Allen the Alien's only two appearances in the season brought a massive amount of appeal and levity in a series where surprise arrivals have usually spelled peril (ie, the surprise alien invasion, Machine Head's mercenaries, and the slaughtering of the original Guardians of the Globe).
Appearing in space to fulfill a hero evaluation request, it's not long into his fight with Invincible that he learns he's come to the wrong planet. His return at the end of the season is all the sweeter, giving Mark valuable information and being the perfect person to open up to. His screentime may be limited, but every second he's on is a highlight of the series.
