sister's fiance!Joel x reader
smut ! i've not written a single thing for three months so sorry if this is really bad
You promised yourself it wouldn't happen again but it felt dirty just the way you both looked at each other.
The first time it happened was one night you visited their house hoping to find your sister, but she was still at work. Joel insisted on you waiting for her and told you he didn't mind adding a plate to the table for you. You thanked him deeply and asked for Sarah. You were kinda close with her since you sometimes helped her with homework and looked after her when your sister and her dad went out. Unfortunately, Joel told you Sarah was out for the night as he poured you some wine, so it was just you and him in the house. And thank god because your moans were loud, and your sister would have freaked out watching the scene, as well as Joel helping you to jump on the table and the red wine being spilled on her new white carpet.
The following times were purely lustful. Your sister only crossed your mind when you watched her eyes glowing as she looked at Joel. Not even when you were lying in her bed with her fiancé on top of you and their photos on the bedside table looking directly at you. But as the wedding date kept getting closer, the feeling of regret began to haunt you. But then his strong hands were on your body again, and his lips devoured your neck, and you could hear your sister's car pull into the garage as Joel fucked faster into you with one of his hands around your neck as he mumbled into your ear how he wanted you to hold his cum inside when you greeted your sister.
She loved how close you were with Joel. You were even closer to him than she knew, so close that his fingers caressed the inside of your thighs while you were at the table, a very risky move considering that your sister was sitting in front of you two, and then, minutes after, he was on his knees on the bathroom floor, eating you out under the floral skirt you were wearing as you tried to keep it quiet. Your sister truly did love you being close to Joel. She loved that you two could spend some time alone and that it would not be awkward. How was it gonna be awkward when he was shoving his cock down your throat and then bending you over the sink he came to your house to help you fix?
"You didn't open the door for me last night."
"I told you this can't go on, Joel."
He was standing behind you, with his hands in his pockets and his back leaning against one of the doors of the restrooms, as he looked carefully at your reflection in the mirror. Three days ago was his bachelor party. He told you that it was not going to be anything special, just a couple of drinks with his brother and some friends, and then he'd be home.
You didn't think he meant your home.
You hadn't seen each other since then. He has been busy with the wedding and you thought it would be best if you two stopped seeing each other as soon as possible.
"You've said that so many times it's meaningless at this point."
You softly shook your head in disagreement with his words. You shook your hands before grabbing a piece of paper to dry them off as you turned to face Joel. He had that devilish smirk on his lips.
"I'm being serious, Joel. I don't know what else you want from me. This has been fun but also wrong. You're marrying my sister in less than an hour yet you're here–”
"And that tells you nothing, huh?"
"Joel." You stopped him there. He was going to marry your sister. You didn't care if you had to disappear from the country or join a convent and become a nun, but he was going to put that ring on your sister's finger. With his hands still inside his pockets and his eyes locked on the floor, he approached you. Slowly walking and giving you enough time to try and escape him, but poor you. You ended up trapped in between the sink behind you and Joel's body.
"This dress looks amazing on you." You avoided eye contact with him. He played with the thin strap on your shoulder. He had you where he wanted, with no escape. "You know I helped your sister to choose it?" It was hard to breathe with him so close, and all that came through your nostrils was his intoxicating perfume. "All I could think about when she was showing me those stupid bridesmaids' dresses was how they would look on you, and I knew this would be the best one."
"Joel–" You let out his name in a sigh.
"And I was right because–fuck" Joel chuckled in mid-sentence. Before he could finish, your lips were already on his.
The kiss was messy, and you hesitated about where to place your hands; only two seemed too little for how much you needed to touch him. You tugged at the root of his hair, destroying the hairdresser's work, and then you moved them to squeeze both of his cheeks to deepen the kiss as much as possible. But your hands ended up focusing on taking off his suit jacket, and then your fingers skillfully started to unbutton his shirt. It was easy for Joel to slide your panties down your legs and turn you around to face the mirror.
You bent over the countertop, resting your entire upper body on it and making your ass fully at his disposal. Joel unzipped his pants and pulled down his underwear just enough to free his cock. One of his hands wrapped around his shaft, stroking himself as he let out a groan, and with his other hand, he caressed one of your ass cheeks. You spread your legs apart and Joel teased your wet hole with his tip before finally pushing himself inside of you.
You both let out a moan at the same time when Joel bottomed you. He pressed his chest against your back, his hips thrusting hard into you and his fingers digging into your skin there to keep you in place. You tried your best to quiet your moans, but there were times when you couldn't help but let out some whimpers and curses. Joel had to move one of his hands to wrap his fingers around your neck, not to choke you but to make you throw your head back.
"That should be you wearing the white dress. It should be you who—fuck, It should be you who I wait for at the altar." Joel groaned in your ear as his hips kept hammering into you. He hid his face in the crook of your neck, sucking on your sensitive skin there.
You would never tell him how much you liked hearing that, the reaction his words had on you, and the way you would have loved to tell him that you felt the same way. But he had a duty to your sister; you both had to make that sacrifice for all the damage you had caused her without her knowing it.

In the human living quarters
Cut to the front door kicked open by a furious you as you stomps around the livingroom, mumbling angrily
DP Y/n*mumbling angrily* Ooh! Such a fucking asshole! That little motherfucker. I just wanna take my finger up and shove it up his fuckin' little thing!
Upon coming up to the table, You slam your coffee cup on it disturbing Nikola, You then pass Nikola and hits a button titled "Nut button!!" that summons a cardboard cutout of a Man saying, "Hi! I'm a God!" then throws a knife and lunges at said cutout, Adam looks at you, disturbed
Adam:... Y/n, apple pie, Is everything okay?
You hiss back at Him in response, disturbing him even more, but You manage to calm down
DP Y/n: Y-Yeah Dad-I just...bumped into an ex...*Looks abit sad at the ground*
Adam: Oh! Oh...-Wait you dated someone?
DP Y/n*retracts knife* He just kept going on about how successful now, "a bright future"-and dammit I looked down and his cock still was big HELL it looked bigger now!?
Adam:...Wait, what?
DP Y/n*raises voice* Every time I see his stupid face, I can't help it! I just need to—
You punch the wall beside you in frustration, making a hole as you pull your arm out of the wall
Adam*concerned* You've never told me this before...
DP Y/n: I-I don't really like to talk about this part of my life. But...*Dramaticly sighs* I first saw Poseidon...In one of my wacky travels thru pantheons
Flashback to Your time in Olympus, You get a handshake and a kiss from Hera, welcoming you into the realm. You look around the room and stop upon seeing Poseidon applauding at You along with the other gods, You blush at the attention Poseidon is giving you
DP Y/n*voiceover*in the welcoming party, Our eyes met from across the room. And there was just something about him. Something that was magnetic!
You are found hiding behind a carriage in the middle of a turf war, You throw away the Gun and pull out a grenade, but it slips out of your hands before you can pull the pin, You run after it and catches it the same moment that Poseidon grabs it, touching his hand. Both share a smile before You pick up the grenade, pulls the pin, and throw it away, Poseidon and You stare fondly at each other as the grenade explodes in the distance, the smoke forming the shape of a heart
The Pov switches over to Poseidon greeting You at the door, You are holding signs that he lets fall from his hands. The signs say "TELL YOUR BROTHER IT'S A SALESMAN" "I CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT YOU" and "SY, WILL YOU BONE WITH ME?" Poseidon looks oddly fondly at you and lets You in...to do the last thing-
DP Y/n:...But then he started distancing himself...Missing dates...and even...-that skank he was in his arms...*Sighs and looks at Adam who was growing more and more enraged but behind him was someone much more fearsome*...M-ma?
Eve*foaming at the mouth, furiously* I'LL FUCKING KILL HIM!
Eve run to the door grabbed a bottle of wine and smashing it at the end, missing Raiden and Lu Bu hold her back as her bottle pierces through their pants fabric
Raiden: Whoa, the fuck-
Lu bu: Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, HEY! Hold on!
Eve*Visualizing Poseidon Face* You're going to die, bitch!

Slight Spoilers? Not really. Read at your own risk. I am also not a doctor so all medical terms and stuff is slightly googled and not all the way informed.

You pulled Tara closer to you as the bass of the music made it hard to hear her talk to you. "We should get more drinks!" Tara yells into your ear, voice a little slurred. You motion back an "Okay" before splitting up from her in the dense crowd. You and Tara had been seeing each other for about two months now after you partnered up on a English project for class. You fell head over heels for the girl almost immediately as she made you laugh constantly and would always check you out when she thought you weren't looking. The same could be said for Tara. She had always noticed you in class, the professor's voice droning on and on and on in the background as she stared. She had wanted to go up and talk to you so many times but was always stopped by the fear of what had happened to her and the irrational fear that it could happen again. Not that she would tell her friends or her sister, who was already too over protective of her. She was also scared that she would scare you away. I mean her 3 day hell was posted all over the news for weeks and caused people she had known in school to unfriend her and the rest of her group. But luckily for her, you never really watched the news or kept up to date on most trends. Many people assumed because you threw multiple giant parties every year since high school, that you would be in the know of things but you rarely even scrolled through social media.
It was nice for Tara to meet someone who knew her as just Tara Carpenter, not Tara Carpenter a serial killer survivor with a older sister who was the daughter of a serial killer. Now that you were together though, she still hadn't told you about her past or even meet her friends or sister. She was scared that they would scare you away, especially Sam, or tell you about everything when she needs to be the one to do it.
You and Tara regroup in your kitchen, the music less loud than before and there was no more need to yell. "It looks like your out of almost everything." Tara says as she pokes at a few bottles sitting in ice. You give the girl a mischievous look as you get an idea, "Why don't we raid my dad's stash upstairs and get lost for a few hours?" Tara sends you a very alluring look and allows you to grab her hand and pull her towards the stairs, both of you a little to inebriated to see Anika and Mindy sitting on the couch you pass. Anika tries to stop you and Tara but you both brush her off and keep moving forwards. You whisper a few things in Tara's ear that cause her to laugh as you began to walk up the stairs only to get pulled down and thrown the ground a few seconds later. "Yo, what the fuck!" You say as get your breath back and stand up. The entire house was quiet as Chad stood protectively in front of Tara, who looked worried and scared. You didn't really like Chad because it was clear he had a crush on Tara. "She's not going upstairs with you." Chad sneers as he takes a step closer to you, a couple of your friends start to step forwards but you put out a hand to stop them. If you had been sober, you would have just let the moment pass because you knew Chad was Tara's friend and you cared about Tara, but you were drunk and Chad just disrespected you in your own house. "I suggest you leave before we have a big fucking problem." You tell Chad as you step up to him to a poke a finger into his chest with each word. You can see Tara behind Chad, Mindy, and Anika, all of them guarding her from you like your some kind of monster. The only reason you were going to take a step back was because you could see Tara pleading to you with her eyes and you really didn't want to fight her friends because Tara was going to introduce you to them at some point.
You don't get the chance to take a step back because before you know it, you've been shoved and tased. "Shit!" You yell out in pain as you fall back onto the floor for the second time that night. You can here Tara yell out your name and then her sisters as you see the older girl stand over you for a second before grabbing Tara's arm and dragging her out the house. You struggle to stand, feeling like your getting minor shocks every time you move. "Parties over." You say and when no one moves, you yell. "I said the party is over! Get the hell out of my house!" At that, everyone starts to move, and as one of your friends pass you, you can hear them whisper about Sam. "What a crazy bitch." "Yeah just like her da-" He stops when he sees you glaring at. "Shut up." Is all you say before slowly walking away to start picking up trash. Your friends, and Tara's, look at you confused for a second before they all finally leave as well.
---
"I can't believe you!" Tara yells as she slams the door to her room. She throws herself onto her bed as she sobs. She knew Sam had been over protective since what happened in Woodsboro, but this was way to far. Tasing someone? Tasing you? That crossed a line. "God, they're never going to talk to me again!" Tara yells into her pillow before pulling out her phone to text you, hoping you wouldn't break up with her over this. Please call me. I'm so sorry. And other variations are what she blows up your phone with and when you don't respond in 15 seconds she's calling your phone. "Shit!" Tara yells as she throws her phone onto her bed after the 5th time she gets your voicemail. It felt like everything was starting to crumble. A knock at her door stops her from her tirade. She opens it to see Sam, who looks pale, like she'd seen a ghost." She gives her a puzzled look and allows herself to be led to the living room. The news is on, covering a murder where a mask similar to the one she had seen in her dreams had been found. The apartment is deathly silent as every processes what they are seeing, even the newer people to the group who hadn't lived through what they had but could see the way it still affected their friends.
"We need to leave town. Now." Sam says, leaving no room to argue, as she speed walks to her room. "What? No! We don't know if it is really happening again!" Tara argues, she can't just leave now, not when life was finally settling. "It could be a coincidence that they found that mask! Everyone's dressed up!" Tara argues, the word coincidence cause her to flinch even though she's the one who said it, when is it ever a coincidence. "We're going. I am not risking this being some sort of "coincidence" because I can't risk being wrong and something happening to you." Tara goes to argue again when her phone rings. She lets out a sigh of relief, seeing your contact name and picture pop up but everyone else in the room tenses. Tara picks up the phone with no hesitance, "Hey, I've been calling you. Are you okay? I'm sorry about-" A dark chuckle makes it's way through the phone and Tara has to grab onto the couch as her knees buckle. "Tara, Tara, Tara. Let's play a game shall we? A little preview to the main event." The voice on the other side says and Tara grabs her inhaler while slipping her jacket back on. Her friends around her looking concerned. "You better leave them the fuck alone." Tara grits out as she slides a shoe on. "C'mon where's the spirit? I'll try again. Want to play a game." "No." Is all Tara says and her friends understand what's happening as they stand, ready for anything. "That's too bad, your friend over here is a pretty heavy sleeper. Makes it all a little too easy." At that, Tara is out the door and sprinting down the stairs, her friends fast on her heels. Quinn pulling out her phone to "call" her dad.
"Don't touch them... Please." Tara gasps out, running and talking not helping her much. "No, don't beg. You should have played the-" "Who the hell are you?" Tara can hear you ask in the background and the call immediately disconnects. Tara picks up her speed as she turns the corner, your house finally coming into view. As Tara turns and steps onto your front lawn, she can already see the door left open and can hear that inside is deadly silent. She creeps through the front door slowly, shrugging off her friends hands as they try to stop her, she couldn't lose you. She wouldn't lose you. Her friends were confused as to why the killer would target you and why Tara cared so much. A bang was heard from above as the group entered your living room to find the couches undone and multiple pillows with slashes through them, the glass table flipped and completely shattered. Tara's heart stops as she notice a good amount of blood on the glass.
A bang was heard again and the whole group flinched as they turned towards the stair to go up. Not even an hour ago had they been pulling you down to the ground and away from Tara in the exact same place. "You guys clear the other rooms, stay with a partner. Sam come with me." Tells the group as she slowly walks to your parents room, missing every creaky step in the hall like she had done hundreds of times before. Another bang was heard, this time Tara could tell it was from the closet, causing her to flinch. God, she really hope that it was you. The bang was heard one more time and Tara put her hand on handle, looking back to give Sam a "get ready" look. Tara yanked the door open and you went falling forwards. "Y/n!" Tara said thankfully as she help you stand up and assessing your injuries. You had blood covering your back from what Tara assumes is the living room table and a slice on the arm but other than that you seemed pretty unharmed. Tara finally looks away from your body and to your face and feels like she's going to be sick. You had obvious tears and tear tracks rolling down your face, mouth covered by silver duct tape as were your hands and all Tara could see was herself when she had been in this position. She felt like she was reliving how hopeless and terrified she had been. She reaches up to take the tape off your mouth when she sees your eyes go wide. Before she can even think, you're barreling through the sisters and tackling Ghostface, who was about to stab Sam in the back.
You let out a pained grunt as you landed on the floor, hands still tied so you couldn't catch yourself. Your eyes widen as you feel a knife go through your arm, right above your elbow, and into your side. The sounds of sirens had finally reached the house and Ghostface disappeared, leaving the knife in your arm and side making you feel like a shish kebab. Tara enters your view again and you can see blood rolling down her face from a cut on her forehead. You go to reach out and wipe the tears off her face but flinch as you move. "No! Don't move okay, you need to stay on your side so we don't move the knife around." She says as she carefully rips the duck tape off your mouth. You let out a strangled and broken "Tara" and it causes the girl to cry harder. "I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry." She tells you as you feel hands on you turning you over, the movement causing you to yell out. The paramedics getting ready to take care of you, already pushing morphine to help ease your pain. The drugs cause you to tire out, adrenaline draining from your body as you look over to see Tara crying into the arms of her sister, who just looks so confused and scared, before finally passing out.
---
"How long?" Sam asked as she sat in a chair next to your hospital bed, Tara on the opposite side. It had been a week since the new ghost face trio had been taken care of and the hospital was starting to feel too much like a second home again. Mindy was out of the hospital and finally able to fully grieve Anika. Gale was being discharged later that afternoon and you were supposed to be good to go after 24 hours of observation once you woke up. The stab wound to your arm had cut an artery and nicked your lung, adding that injury to the deep wounds from the table and cut on your other arm, you lost so much blood that you passed out and slipped into a coma.
"Two months." Sam nods her head and then cringes. "Sorry about the whole... taser thing." Tara lets out a laugh, the whole situation seeming so much smaller now considering what had happened. "I'm not really the one you should apologize to." Tara says motioning to you and Sam nods her head. It's silent for a moment before Same speaks up again. "Why... Why didn't you tell us? Or me?" Tara looks away, ashamed and kind of embarrassed. "You know I'll always love you for you right?" Tara nods her head, "Of course I know that. It's just... You were so overbearing and I was around you and everyone else 24/7 and it felt so nice to have something that was finally mine. Something that didn't remind me of Woodsboro... Someone that didn't already have some preconceived notion about us." Sam looks at Tara confused, "They don't know about Woodsboro?" Tara laughs, "Yeah, besides keeping up with artists, music, some sports, and sometimes videogames, they don't really watch the news or anything like that." Tara's smile slowly disappears, "But I guess that's over now. I mean how do I even explain that they almost died just for loving me?"
"I think that's a pretty good way to say it." You mumble out as you give Tara's hand a weak squeeze. "Y/n!" She says with glee as she pulls you into a gentle but loving kiss. "Your awake! Same go get a nurse or something! You have no idea how sorry I am Y/n, I understand if you want to break up with me." Tara says all in one breath, Sam leaves the room to get a nurse but makes sure to take a scenic route, so the two of you have time to talks. "I kinda have a confession to make too." You tell Tara as you held her hand. "I lied, I knew about Woodsboro. I mean it's hard not to after they reran the story months on end... And of course, Gale's book." Tara feels her heart stop. "What..." "Please don't get mad. I never meant to lie. It's just you seemed so at ease when I made it seem like I didn't know. My love for you isn't fake or anything, I love the real Tara. Not the one they tried to portray to the world. And us being partnered up in english was truly by chance."
Tara's quiet and you are so scared you ruined everything. "Well.. I am hurt that you lied to me, but to be fair I did think I was keeping a life ruining secret from you. So I guess we can call it even?" A wide smile grows on your face. "Perfect... Now what did I miss?" You ask as you eye her sling. Tara's face falls. "A lot."

You Suck at Pool - Rooster
Tumblr media
Pairing: Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw x Fem!Reader
Prompt: You ard Rooster are dating. When your dad Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell comes into town, tension rises.
————————————————————————- The Hard Deck was packed to the brim with people. It was just past nine and the typical crowd that frequented the establishment were scattered around the bar. I made my way through the dense crowd toward the back of the room where a group of Fightertown pilots congregated, a few of them in the middle of a game of pool.
I slowly moved in their direction, glancing down at my phone briefly at a text message that popped up on my screen.
Call me - Dad
I wasn’t surprised it was from a new phone number. If my dad wasn’t losing his phones he was breaking them. Sometimes it was by accident, and other times it was on purpose. I chose to ignore him for the moment, and as I looked up from my phone I was immediately stopped by a tall blonde man in a pilot's uniform.
“To get past me you must pay the toll, sweetheart.”
I gave him half a smile, “A toll, huh. What’s the price?”
He looked over his shoulder at his comrades, a cocky smile written across his face. I could feel the rest of them looking at me, but the blonde kept my attention.
“Your name for a start, and how about a drink?”
“And who says you are deserving of those things?” I countered.
He leaned in closer, “I’m a great guy once you get to know me.”
“I bet,” I paused, locking eyes with one of the guys standing near the pool table. “But I have a better idea. How about if I beat your friend over there in the sunglasses at a round of pool, you have to buy a round of drinks for the bar. If I lose, you can have my name and the next round of drinks are on me.”
The man looked a bit confused but I didn’t give him a chance to question me as I grabbed the cue from his hand and moved toward the table.
“Hangman, is it?” I said, reading aloud the name that appeared on his name tag. “Am I stripes or solids?”
He smiled, “Yes ma’am, and stripes.”
“Well Hangman, you might as well get your credit card out because you just lost.”
He chuckled behind me. “You seem very confident. Why do you see that?”
“Because you see, Hangman. Rooster here has never been good at pool,” he quickly glanced between the two of us, a confused look on his face, “And I’m very good.” I said, smiling at him.
I leaned over the pool table and lined my cue up with the white ball. They were already in the middle of a game and stripes were losing with not one in the pocket. That wouldn’t be a problem.
I lined up the shot, but right before I took it I looked up at my competitor, “ Where you been Rooster?”
I took the shot without taking my eyes off of him  and three balls landed in three different pockets. The game was now tied.
Rooster removed the sunglasses from his face and shoved them into his left pocket. “Y/N, I know you’re mad-“
“I came back after being out of the country for over a month and you are nowhere to be found. No note, no call, nothing.”
A female figure appeared beside me, “I warned him, but you know how well he listens.”
I smiled at my friend, “Thanks Phoenix.”
Hangman chimed in, “I gather you all know each other. Especially you two,” he said, gesturing between Rooster and I.
Rooster ignored him, “I thought you were coming back next week.” He took a shot but missed.
Typical.
”I decided to come back early. I tried to call you.”
“There wasn’t any service.”
“So, where were you that you didn’t have any service?” I hit two more striped balls into the same pocket. Three left including the eight ball. Rooster didn’t take his eyes off of me.
“Listen, I’m sorry. I fucked up, I know I should have just told you where I was going but I didn’t want to stress you out.” He lined up his cue and hit one ball in.
“Rooster, just tell me where you were!” My phone vibrated in my back pocket but I ignored it.
“You are such a dead man.” I heard Phoenix laugh behind me as I lined up my cue once again.
Rooster immediately glared in her direction but turned to me once again, “I was in Russia.”
I hit the white ball harder than I had intended but it did the job. The last two striped balls went into the pocket, “Russia?” I muttered angrily.
“See, this is exactly why I didn’t tell you.”
“You were in Russia. That is a pretty big one to keep from me.” I took a deep breath and moved to his side of the table. He took another shot and one more ball went in. The game was over, he knew it. He slowly leaned into me, his back pressed against mine and whispered into my ear.
“I’m sorry, baby. I didn’t want to worry you.”
I pulled the cue back and hit him hard. He clenched his stomach in pain but his smile didn’t faulter. “I deserved that.”
I hit the eight ball in and placed my cue on the table. I could hear Hangman whining behind me but I turned to Rooster who sneakily wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me in close.
“You know you’ve been on edge lately when it comes to the missions I’ve been sent on. This was supposed to be a quick one. I really thought I’d beat you back.”
I placed my hand against his muscular chest and my heart began to race. “You almost died on your last mission, Bradley. I can’t just drop that and not worry every time you get into a plane.”
“I didn’t almost die-“
“Yes, you did. You had to eject. I would say that is pretty close to ‘almost dying’. I know it’s an adrenaline rush for you but it’s still scary.”
He placed a soft kiss on my lips, “I know, I’m sorry. But do you still think it’s sexy that I fly fighter jets or is it just scary now?”
I smiled, “Oh no, it is still sexy.”
We both laughed before he kissed me again, this time with much more urgency. His lips moved against mine and I couldn’t help but melt into him.
A familiar voice pulled my attention and I immediately pulled away from Rooster, biting his lip in the process.
“Owe.” He said, touching his lip.
I locked eyes with my dad who stood with his arms crossed, his expression blank. “Dad.”
“Maverick,” Bradley said, taking a step away from me.
I could tell he was confused, and possibly angry but he smiled in my direction as I walked around the table toward him, “Dad, what on earth are you doing here?”
“I wanted to surprise you. I did try to call you….”
I smiled, “I’m sorry I’ve been busy with work.”
I didn’t look back at Bradley who I knew couldn’t be happy to see my dad.
“It’s good to see you sweetheart,” He said, pulling me in for a hug.”
“I’m happy to see you too dad.”
Instead of standing here with the two of them in close proximity to each other and an altercation not far in the future, I quickly grabbed my dad and pointed toward the door. “Let’s go talk somewhere more private.”
I followed him out into the open San Diego air, the sound of the waves relaxing me just a bit.
He took a few steps away from me toward the beach then quickly turned around, “When were you going to tell me?“
I took a deep breath, “About what?” He rolled his eyes. “The next time I saw you. I didn’t think it was something I should text you and you are impossible to get on the phone.”
“Were you guys messing around when he lived with us because I’ll kill him right now-“
“No, dad. Nothing happened when he lived with us. It wasn’t until way after that.”
This time he took a deep breath, “When?”
“We reconnected a little over a year ago. Here, actually. We’ve been together since then.” I paused, hesitant to tell him the next part but decided to get it over with. “We live together.”
He was quiet for a moment. “If this is just some rebellious faze-“
“I’m 32.”
“It could be just a fling-“
I rolled my eyes, “It’s not just a ‘fling’ dad, I love him.”
The door to the bar shut behind me and by the look on my dad’s face, I knew Bradley had just joined us. I turned to look at him, his expression blank.
“What are you doing here Mav?” Bradley asked.
He laughed, “What, I can’t come to see my daughter.”
Bradley laughed and I quickly nudged him to stop. “Seriously, why are you here?”
He looked back and forth between the two of us before finally telling us the reason he was back in San Diego. “I was reassigned.”
“To what?” I asked.
“Top Gun.”
I was into it so I did a Part 2 - Here

Hello, I am a 13 year old girl living in 2023, I’ve always been passionate about feminism and equality. I honestly just want everyone to get along, but I know that’s not happening, so I’d just like to use this blog as a way sexism has affected me as a girl in society now, thank you.
Ever since I was little gender norms have been pushed down my throat, I’ve been bullied all my life, and sometimes it would end in violence towards me. If a boy were to hit me, shove me, grope me, harass me, constantly call me slurs, online bully me, etc, I was told it was just boys being boys, and that they liked me. Whenever I would say anything to anyone I would be called a snitch, or a prude. A nagger. Love that for me! I’ve always wondered how boys harassing me every day of my life, calling my the r slur and a lesbo, telling me I should slit my wrists, saying I deserved to be raped for the way I dressed or the way I talked, was just boys being boys.
I remember when I was 8 years old, there was this one kid that would not leave me alone, I was in 3rd grade at the time. Everytime we had partner work it would be “Boys, pick a girl to work with.” He always chose me, it was 3rd grade, we all were and still are young, there were a bunch of blocks in a bin in the back of the classroom. He would sit me behind a table and throw blocks at me while I did his work. I didn’t tell the teacher for 4 months, when I told her the response I got was “He must like you! Isn’t that adorable?” I still remember the way she looked at me in awe, after I literally came to her crying with bruises all over my legs and arms.
2 nights ago, my parents had a Christmas party. They wouldn’t let me stay in my room, but I have severe anxiety and panic disorder, and find it hard to be around people. I was kinda just sitting on my couch the whole time. My neighbors son is 10 years old. He kept sitting down on the couch with me, which was awkward and scary for me, but I didn’t do anything because it was just a normal human interaction I can barely handle. He kept getting closer, eventually he just kept groping my tits. I kept asking him to stop but he wouldn’t so I just got up and hung out with my friends and some other random kids and neighbors, everyone got really energetic and it made me anxious, so I left again. At this point my neighbor had groped me about 7 times that night, he came up to me on the couch and started humping my leg, I kept moving but he just kept getting up on my knee and humping me. I get he’s 10, but it’s nasty. I told my dad, his response? He laughed and said “isn’t he a fucking rizzler? Gonna get all the girls when he’s older, lighten up. He doesn’t mean anything by it.” When I get really anxious I get physically sick, I threw up in the bathroom and stayed there until our neighbors left. I love my neighbors, the mom and two daughters are so sweet, and I don’t want to hate the son, but I do. The dad is a genuine criminal and is on the run from the police at the moment, I’ll probably get into that and what he’s done to me in another post. This is all im writing for now. If you read this, thank you. Please be honest, am I overreacting?

(and my pronouns are she/her) also i love your writing so much it’s amazing
Thank you so much <3. I think I know what you're asking for! I hope you enjoy!
Also I cannot stop myself from putting Taylor Swift references into everything I write I'm sorry.
43. “You always come here when you’re upset.”
You kicked the grass in the open field, aluminated by the tall stadium lights in the corners of the field. It'd been a while and you weren't sure if Jamie would show up. It had been a few years since you'd seem him last.
You grew up in Manchester, just down the street from Jamie's house. You'd been there for him everytime his parent's fought or his dad came home drunk. At one point, you'd even convinced him that his house was haunted, and that was why his dad was always mad. The two of you would hide in the closet and pretend to fly away to India or some other country that seemed so far away when you were young.
As you grew up, you remained close and soon found a place outside of the house to run to when something happened. An old abandoned pitch just a few miles from town. It hadn't been used in at least a decade but the lights still turned on every night for the ghosts of football games that came to life under the stars.
But Jamie was different recently. He had been since he'd been picked up at Manchester City. He'd gotten arrogant and rude. He was acting just like his father. And you'd told him as such two years ago. That was the last time he'd talked to you. But you'd read the news. He was being sent back to Manchester from Richmond, where he'd been playing on loan for a while.
Ted Lasso. Who knew someone so different could make such an impact on a team. But he was the first person to bench Jamie since... well maybe ever. Something had to have shifted in him. But being sent back to Manchester. Back to his father. It had to have hurt him. If your intution was right, and you hoped it was, he would make his way back here tonight.
It was getting late, and you were chilly. You were about to give up when you saw the headlights you'd been waiting for all night. Jamie got out of the car and leaned against it.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" He grumbled, shoving his hands into his pockets.
You shrugged, approaching him slowly. "You always come here when you're upset"
He scoffed at you. "You think you know me?"
"I think I do," You shot back. "I think you're afraid to go back to Manchester. Cause your dad is going to be sitting there waiting for you."
He snapped his head over towards you. He was angry. Angry at you, angry at his dad, angry at the world.
"Oh, fuck off," he spat, pushing himself off the car and turning on you. "I'm pissed off, cause I played Lasso's stupid game, burnt my mum's boots, and actually felt like I was making a difference at Richmond and what the fuck did it do?" I didn't really know what he was talking about but I didn't care, at least he was talking. "It did fuck all. He still sent me away. Just like everyone else in my life."
You let the statement hang in the air for a second. Waiting to see if he would continue or say anything else.
"I didn't send you away," you said quietly. "You left me... if you'll remember."
"Yeah, fucked that up too, didn't I?" he muttered.
Against your own will, you felt your feet moving you forward, lurching in Jamie's direction. When you reached him, you took his face in your hands.
"You didn't fuck that up? Okay," You shook his head gently, making your point. "You didn't fuck that up. I'm here, Jamie." He grabbed onto you, wrapping himself around you tightly. "You didn't fuck that up." You kept repeating that, over and over, as he held onto you like a lifeline. "I'm here, Jamie... I'm here."

Arrival
Summary: On the day of Indie's birth, there's one last person to introduce her to. Canon-compliant
Edited July 18, 2023 for grammar and phrasing.
Will
I rocked and bounced and swayed. I could sit down but there was too much energy coursing through my body to keep me seated. Emmy slept in the bed next to me, head resting on the white hospital pillows. Even with IV tubes, hair knotted and sticking to her forehead, and that shitty paper-thin gown, she was still the most beautiful woman.
And mother.
I swallowed, looking down at the little baby in my arms. Thanks to Winter, I've had plenty of practice holding one, not that it stopped me from shaking as the nurse passed her to me. She was so pink and warm and tiny in my large hands. None of Damon's babies were tiny like this. Those boys were monsters from day one.
Not my girl. She was sweet and delicate, with a soft smell and blue eyes that I'm hoping won't stay blue. Green is a Grayson trait, and if one of my kids inherits them, cool, but I'm dying for this one to get her mother's chocolate-browns.
Two light knocks at the door before it cracked open. I knew who to expect. Hours after the delivery, most everyone came through and left, promising to return in the morning after Emmy and baby had a chance to rest. Only one person hadn't shown their face yet.
The door open to reveal two black eyes glinting in the light that spilled in from the hall way as Damon let himself in without a word. He closed the door and kept the lights off, leaving us in the pale glow from the window. Leaning back casually, arms crossed over his chest, he watched me hold my child with a superior smirk.
Irritation simmered in my chest. At first, I was pissed he wasn't here. I knew it was his need for revenge that kept him away. He had to make a point. I regretted not being there for Ivarsen, and I've told him that. I thought we were in the clear, but as Em and I were allowed visitors, I couldn't ignore the stab of pain at his no-show. With each group, the joy I had became clouded by the bitterness of him not being there. I tried to hide the way I scanned the room, looking for him, but Em still caught it. Each time, she'd take my hand, squeezing it once to bring me back to the moment.
Looking at him now, I was just happy that I didn't have to share this with anyone else.
My smile broke the tension first as I tore my gaze from him. I had to, because for some reason, I couldn't look away from the new life in my arms for too long. When I confirmed once again that she's real and she was there, I looked back up. My vision blurred and I realized, a bit embarrassingly, those are tears.
I was crying.
Again.
Stupid fuck. My smile grew.
Damon grinned. "Are you dad now?"
I knew if I tried to speak, my voice would fail me, so I swallowed and nodded. Damon shoved off the door, walking closer to inspect the newest addition to our constantly growing family.
"About time you started catching up," he critiqued, peering closer. He lifted a brow, pretending to be unimpressed. "This the foretold William IV?"
I laughed. We had decided to follow Damon and Winter in keeping the gender a mystery until their arrival, but we made no secret that we were hoping for a boy – the next William. We knew either way we'd be over the moon, but between Mads, and Ivar and Gunnar, none of us really expected this.
And I guess newborns don't look all that different, but I was a little offended he'd think my son would be so small and soft.
"You ready for this?" I challenged. Damon lifted a brow in questions and I tilted my daughter to meet the face of who I knew would be her favorite uncle. "D, meet Indie Aspen Grayson. The first, if she so chooses."
I swear I felt his heart stop. He looked from her to me back to her, eyes wide. It wasn't often I got the jump on him. This was my favorite surprise so far.
"A girl?" he whispered, looking at me. Looking back at her, he said more to himself and with pride, "Our first girl."
I shrugged. "Well, technically Athos -"
His cutting glare shut me up. We all loved Athos, and accepted her as one of our own. Somehow, that girl was perfectly suited to the Fane's as if she were made for them, but I wouldn't deny that this felt different.
Indie cooed gently and I immediately went back to rocking her.
"I was downstairs," Damon said. I glance up, reading him. "The entire time. For hours, I've just been sitting down there, waiting for this."
I nodded, accepting his non-apology. "Your point's been made. Don't do it again."
"I'll catch the next one."
I laughed. The next one, huh? I glanced behind me to Em, half expecting to catch her mid-eyeroll.
Turning back to Damon, I asked the one thing I'd been dying to ask since he walked in. "You wanna hold her?"
Damon's chest heaved with a sharp exhale as he raised his arms to take her. I adjusted my hold on the bundle, pausing at the last second.
"You'll give her back, right?" I teased, smiling at him.
He didn't take the bait, his eyes only for Indie as I passed her over. "Maybe. We'll see."
"He will if he knows what's good for him," Emmy muttered from the bed beside us.
I looked down, seeing her half-lidded gaze watching our daughter in Damon's arms, soft smile playing on her lips. I couldn't help myself from leaning down and pressing a kiss to her temple. Hovering over her, so close my eyes couldn't take in all of her at once, I breathed her in. She was a vision. Perfection.
Her hand came up and cupped my cheek. I needed a shave. I needed to go relieve myself. And I could probably use a shower.
But mostly, I needed to see my daughter again.
Emmy's eyes drew away from me to where Damon had moved to the window of the private room. With one more kiss, I left her side to join him, wrapping a hand around his shoulder and looking down at Indie. Her eyes had opened and she was looking at Damon like she knew him. It's possible she recognized his voice. He was around Emmy plenty until the final weeks when she stayed home as a precaution. Even then, Winter came around to keep her company and Damon usually followed soon after. Still, I thought it was something else. Something I couldn't put a name to.
A weaker man might be jealous or suspicious, and I was once, but I understand now. Damon and I, and the others, are one in the same, tangled together and inseparable. Our bond doesn't only cover us; it transfers to what we each love.
"You might not be getting her back after all," he joked. At least, I hoped it was a joke. A part of him sounded serious.
Emmy made a noise behind us, a low groan, and I turned to see her trying to sit up. I glared, silently telling her to stay put. She should know better. Annoyed, she slouched against the pillows, keeping her eyes on Damon's back. God, she's gonna be a great mom.
"About that," I said to him. I looked out at the view of Thunder Bay. The local hospital was small, only three stories, so we weren't towering above the town, but it was enough to get a good eye-full of our kingdom. We were building, moving through our plans at a steady rate. By the time the kids were starting school, we'd have this place well on lock.
But that meant enemies were coming our way.
I'd like to say losing both of us would be unlikely, but Emory lost her parents at eleven years old. She was pregnant for the anniversary of their passing this year and it made us aware just how prepared we need to be.
For everything.
I continued, "Em and I have discussed it, and if anything happens to us, we want you and Winter to step-in." I waited for him to answer but he remained silent. I cleared my throat. "I believe you'd call it a Godparent."
"Though please don't teach her about God," Emmy said.
"Chill, he's been to Sunday School. Used to do confession and all that," I retorted. I was joking awkwardly because he still hadn't answered. "Plus, he's got that rosary. Must mean something, right."
She made another sound of discontent.
Smiling, I looked to Damon. His silence had me worried, though I'd never admit it. Maybe he doesn't want the extra responsibility. He and Winter weren't done having kids, and it's not like my kids would be abandoned if the Torrance's didn't take them in. The only reason we're putting it on paper is for the legality of it; so there's no confusion or hold up in the system. We had no doubt that our family would take them in them if we couldn't be by their side. But of all my friends, nobody would keep them like Damon. He had a sort of ferocious protectiveness over the kids that's even more terrifying than when we were teenagers. Until Mads and Ivars, I didn't know he could get any worse. And Em could act annoyed all she wanted, I knew that like me there wasn't anyone she'd trust more in this scenario.
Finally, he looked over, regarding me for a moment before looking out at the town, but I saw it. I made the right call. Nothing would have ever stopped him from protecting my family if I couldn't.
"Fucking moron," he said, "that's the exact opposite of a Godparent. The term you're looking for is legal guardian."
Ha. Caught him. "So...?"
"Send the papers in the morning."
I laughed. In the morning, he said, as we looked at the sun rising over the horizon.
--
Notes: I have this idea that Damon would have a special connection with Indie. Thank you for reading/commenting/liking, and spending a few short minutes with me. As always, I'd love to hear you thoughts.
sending my love.

— 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐘 𝐈𝐍 𝐌𝐘 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃 𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐘𝐎𝐔'𝐑𝐄 𝐀𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃
Tumblr media
— CHAPTER FIVE: You'll change your name, or change your mind and leave this fucked up place behind but I'll know, I'll know
— SUMMARY: The last day of summer and the trouble that followed it.
— WARNINGS: part of it told through reader's pov (sorry this is the last time i'm doing this promise), might be the longest chapter so far, sexual themes, no actual smut, the title has a curse word in it?
Tumblr media
"And you're sure you want to know?"
"Positive."
You were now sitting in Kate's room, she figured you should be in private for this story.
"Alright. It started on the morning of our last day."
Tumblr media
I had woken up early because I wanted to get a start on the day. We had so many things to do and not a lot of time to do it.
I went downstairs and my mom was not having the best time, considering my dad was on his way out. I went up to her to see what was going on but she brushed me off, going back to her drink.
I was worried about her but not enough to stop her. So I moved on.
I went over to your house, we went to the arcade, and completed the end of the list. The day was great. Everything was going to plan and we were so ecstatic about school.
But then I went home.
I was just going to grab my jumper so we could ride bikes. But when I returned home, everything was everywhere. All of the drawers in the kitchen were pulled out, all of my mom's clothes were on the floor and she was sitting in the middle of the floor, crying.
She told me my dad filed for divorce. He didn't want to be with her anymore and he blamed it on me. Said it was because he saw me and you kissing that night.
She got so mad at me. She said she wasn't ashamed but she didn't like the way my dad was looking at me different. I didn't notice, they were good at hiding it.
She kept pretending like she didn't blame me but I could tell, I was a kid but I wasn't stupid.
Then she dropped the bomb on me.
In less than 2 hours, a moving truck was going to come to my house and pull me away from you. She didn't care. She wanted so desperately for us to be apart. I mean, we broke up her marriage.
It was only fair.
And you remember what happened after that.
You came over, looking for me, my eyes were geysers. And my mom shoved me into the car before I could give you a true goodbye.
Tumblr media
"All of that happened? How come I never noticed?" She was stunned, she couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"We were kids. And I didn't want to pull you into it. Just because my parents blamed you doesn't mean I did. I love you, Kate. And nothing my parents say could ever change that. My dad was gross anyway."
She wanted to laugh at your joke but you dropped a big ass bomb on her, she had to process it, little by little.
And you definitely looked like you didn't want to laugh. You had been carrying this with you forever, by yourself. Before she could stop herself, she reached forward and wrapped you in a tight, warming hug.
You wanted to cry but you just felt numb. It happened so long ago, you couldn't cry now. You already let it all out that day.
"I am so sorry."
"You have nothing to be sorry for. You didn't cause it."
You meant that. Sure, your dad claimed he didn't want the two of you making out, it grossed him out. But you didn't care. He was out of your life and that's where he was going to stay.
You wanted so bad to go home, bury yourself in your own blanket, and be completely mad at your mother for a reason she didn't remember.
But Kate insisted you stay. She didn't want you to be by myself at this time. And she was right.
Having Kate by your side did kind of help all the bad things you were feeling inside. You kind of went back to that moment, trapped in that car with your mom who didn't care that you had tears running down your face. But Kate sat there, made sure you stayed in the present.
She was very good at that.
You decided to stay quiet for the night, no television, just listening to each other's heartbeats. That's happened before.
It was like you did jump back into the past but you two were so close and in your own world, you couldn't be hurt by any of the outside that was trying to hit you.
You could be like this forever.
Tumblr media
Your little bubble bursted in the morning when Kate woke up and you were no longer there. She was about to be sad about it when she realized, you're an adult. You didn't need to tell Kate where you were going.
But luckily you did.
Hey, thanks for the comfort last night. I really needed it. You're the bestest friend any girl could ever ask for. Sorry for the abrupt leaving, had to get to work. Thanks again. P.S, this is Y/n by the way.
Something about that note burned in Kate's insides. She liked that you left a note but she somehow didn't like the contents.
Bestest friend? Why was she so broken up about these words? I mean you were best friends, then why did it hurt? There was a twinge in her brain, like a migraine was already forming.
Great.
And that's not the last she heard of those words today.
Later on in the day, she was trying to enjoy her lunch when all the sudden, a grating voice had to come out of nowhere.
Wow, best friends? That's what she thinks of you. It's like she could never see you in a romantic sense. That must burn, dude. That. Must. Burn.
She wished she could stop her brain from going there but here she was, in the middle of lunch, looking like a crazy person who was talking to herself.
Things could not get worse.
Oh, but they can.
She went to pick you up from work, like she normally did and she did not expect to see what she saw.
She found you at the receptionist's desk, giggling and all over closet guy. Her stomach curdled at the sight and she almost wanted to barf. Nope, she definitely wanted to. But she had to keep it in.
That would be the second most embarrassing thing to happen to her in this office.
She was about to escape, tell you she wasn't going to be able to make it today but sadly, you saw her and her plan was thwarted.
"Kate! There you are! I want you to meet someone." You grabbed her hand, pulling her over to where you were currently standing. "This is my boyfriend, Zack."
She didn't think she could find a pair of words she hated more than best friend. Turns out she could.
Boyfriend.
Gross.
Tumblr media
She wants to bring it up, more than anything. She has so many questions on her mind. How did you meet? What made you want to date? Was it serious? I mean it had to be if you were introducing him to her.
Luckily, you brought it up first.
"So you've been extra quiet since we got here. What's going on? Do you feel weird about Zack? I shouldn't have introduced him to you this early. I don't think it's that serious yet."
There's one question answered.
"It's just I didn't know you guys were on the dating stage. I thought it was just a meaningless hook-up, you know, the way it looked."
"It looked meaningless?"
She noticed the look on your face, down and confused, kind of disappointed. She wanted to take it back immediately. "No! I didn't mean it like that."
"But that's what you said."
"No! I-"
"I think I should go."
You slipped off of her bed and were gone quicker than she could stop you. She felt like this was all her fault.
It was, Bishop. Her brain could not stay out of this conversation, no matter how hard she tried to turn it off.
Tumblr media
It was a few days after the fact and Kate still felt like shit. She didn't want to ruin your relationship, she wanted you to be happy. Even if that wasn't with her.
But for some reason, she couldn't get in touch with you. She texted, no answer. She called, no answer. She showed up at the office, you had just left.
You were basically avoiding her.
And she had just realized.
So she stopped bothering you, maybe it was for the best.
However, that didn't last long.
Kate was chilling, working out in her sort-of living room when she heard a banging on the door. She was stressed, she went to grab her bow, what if it was a bad guy? Wait, why would he knock?
"Kate, open up! It's me!"
She dropped it so quickly, sprinting to the door. You didn't even give her a greeting before bursting in. "So what's going o-"
"I broke up with him."
Well, that came out of nowhere, Kate thought.
And now her brain was chiming in. Wow, breaking up your best friend with her boyfriend? That's a new low.
"Why?" She tried to shut the voice out as much as possible, not give it the satisfaction of bothering her. "Turns out I was plummeting into a relationship that I didn't care about. I didn't even know his name."
"But-"
You shook your head very slowly, giving her the hint. "Ohhh."
"Yeah, wasn't the best girlfriend."
A sudden silence fell upon the two of you until Kate just bursted into laughter. "How long were you calling him Zack until he corrected you?"
"A long time!"
You joined her in her laughter. "I feel bad! He was so patient."
It wasn't long before you both retired to Kate's bed, stuffing your face with gummy worms and watching Game of Thrones. "I still don't understand this show." Kate mentioned, squinting as if she couldn't see.
"Isn't that Ellie from the Last of Us?"
"Yes I think it is."
You snorted, going to pause it. "Why do we watch this show? We don't understand what's going on." You wondered. "Because, Y/n, this is the show of our friendship."
"And it's the show that was playing when we made out."
"How do you do that?" Kate shouted out of nowhere, causing you to look at her with a crazy smile. "Do what, Katie?"
"Go into my brain and find out what I'm thinking about."
"Two reasons. One, I'm your best friend, it's my job. And secondly, it's a core memory. When you have your first kiss, you remember everything about the moment forever. What you were wearing, what the other person was wearing, what was playing, how it felt, and what you did afterwards. Also who you told. But I had no one since you were my best friend."
She was taken aback for a second, she didn't think you thought about it as much as she did. I mean she did remember the comment you made about it being the best kiss you ever had but she didn't think you knew all that.
"And do you know all that stuff?" She was cautious, moving into uncharted territory but as prepared as possible.
"We were both wearing pajamas, Game of Thrones, and we went to sleep afterward." You shrugged it off, as if it wasn't sending Kate for a whirlwind.
"You forgot something."
"What's that, Kate?"
"How did it feel?"
She hadn't finally realized how close you were, your breath were basically fans on her cheeks. Which she definitely needed since she was burning up. And your eyes were going down, toward her lips.
Oh. She finally understood.
"Well I wouldn't know. It happened so long ago. Maybe we should recreate-" She didn't even let you finish before her mouth was on yours, pushing you down into her bed.
Kate knew what she was doing. She knew you two were kissing but it took a few seconds for her brain to catch up.
Kate, what is wrong with you?! What are you doing?
All of that yelling made her break off, sitting back up and going back to relish in the awkwardness.
"Sorry." She muttered.
You sat up and looked at her, but not with the look she was expecting. You had a smirk on your face. Huh?
"Kate, you don't have anything to apologize for."
You slowly started leaning and all of Kate's thoughts were going all at once. But one thing she did know for sure, she definitely wanted to kiss you again.
It felt like forever but you finally let your lips touch hers. It was the softest thing ever, you were very delicate. It was almost like you didn't want to break her.
But before you knew it, the kiss got rougher, most passionate. You found yourself on top of her.
Things happened so fast, Kate couldn't grasp them.
Clothes went flying, blankets started moving, and Kate knew for sure her neighbors hated her.
As soon as it ended, you knew what happened.
"Woah," was the first thing Kate said as you both laid back down, calming down.
"Yeah." You replied, completely unsure what was going on.
"Did we-"
"Yup."
Nice one, Kate. Nice one.

I Would've Liked To Know You: Max
(Warning for major character death (Steve) that occurs before the fic starts, implied/referenced child abuse (Max, nothing on page). This is set in 2002).
Max got the stranger who had given her a ride to drop her at the edge of the cemetery. Her cell phone rang — probably Lucas again, wondering where she was — and she switched it off. She couldn’t handle talking to him. Not yet.
She made the walk across the fields of the cemetery from memory, pulling her coat closed around her. It was early October and it was chilly in Hawkins. She’d forgotten, since moving to California, how cold it could get here.
Max passed the part of the cemetery where she knew Billy was buried, but she didn’t stop. She couldn’t.
She kept going until she reached the far corner of the cemetery. It had been described to her before — the headstone was under a huge tree, which bloomed with flowers in the spring. She ran her fingers over the letters carved into the rock, confirming she was in the right place.
Steven James Harrington
November 13, 1966 - September 17, 1986
Son, friend, hero
She had long since memorized the words on the headstone.
Maybe she should’ve felt guilty, visiting Steve and not Billy, but she didn’t. Because Steve was more her brother than Billy ever had been.
She folded her cane and took a seat on the grass, a foot away from the headstone.
“I don’t know why I’m here,” Max said. That was a lie. “I mean, I know a little. I didn’t, like, run away and board a flight from California and then take a bus down here from Indianapolis for no reason.”
Max fiddled a bit with her cane, folding and unfolding it. She hadn’t said it out loud yet. Had barely admitted it to herself.
But she’d come all this way to talk to Steve, dammit, so she was going to get her shit together and do it.
“I’m pregnant,” she said. She gave a little laugh. “You’re the first one to know. I haven’t even told Lucas yet.”
Her phone felt heavy in her pocket. She hadn’t told Lucas where she was going. She’d taken the pregnancy test in a pharmacy bathroom and then had to ask the teenage girl behind the checkout counter to tell her if there were two lines. The girl had said yes, sounding judgmental. Which was maybe fair given that all she knew was that Max was in the kind of situation where she was taking pregnancy tests in a public bathroom when she couldn’t even read the stupid results.
Max had gone home, not slept for a week straight, then picked a fight with Lucas and run away, all the way from Los Angeles to Hawkins.
“I’m, uh. I don’t know if you can feel time passing, but I’m thirty-one. This isn’t a teen pregnancy or anything, and Lucas has a job and we haven’t broken up in years. It’s not… it’s- I should be ready for this.”
Max cleared her throat. The wind was blowing, cutting through her jacket and making the trees rustle. Max hated trees. She hated forests. They all made her think of the Upside Down. She loved the never-ending concrete of Los Angeles, the only nature the beaches and the ocean that she still loved.
When she was in California, it was easier to pretend that everything that had happened in Hawkins had been a bad dream. That she and Lucas were fine and normal and had never killed or fought or watched loved ones die.
“I’m scared,” Max admitted. “My dad left and my mom tried, but she was never good enough. Neil yelled and Billy hurt me and how the fuck am I supposed to take that kind of upbringing and believe I’m someone who can care for a kid?”
The funny thing was that even without the monsters, Max would have been fucked up. She’d had to explain it to Lucas — how when he was silently angry it was worse, because she kept waiting for the moment he’d snap. How he could put down a plate too hard and she’d flinch, scared he was about to grab her or shove her around. How an empty fridge made her heart clench, even after years of always being able to afford food.
She wasn’t fit to raise a baby. Especially not Lucas’s kid, who should have everything good in the world. Lucas would be an amazing dad, would play games with the kid and teach them basketball and tell stories while doing funny voices, like he did for his DnD characters.
Max knew he wanted a kid. She also knew he hadn’t said anything because he knew she wasn’t ready. That she might never be ready.
And then fate or a broken condom had gone and put her in this situation anyway.
“I thought about getting an abortion,” she told Steve. Maybe it was fucked up, but it was easier to talk to Steve’s grave. Steve had been so patient with her when she’d been a teenager, always offering to listen to her problems, and she’d turned him down time and time again, staying silent and refusing to let him help her.
“But I couldn’t do it. I don’t want to be a shitty mom, so maybe it’s the right thing to do. But I keep trying to picture my kid for some reason. And I see this little girl with warm brown eyes and my round cheeks and Lucas’s huge smile and some part of me wants that. I want to have a baby that’s half me and half Lucas and I want to do right by her.
I was lying awake, trying to figure out what I wanted to. Thinking about my shitty childhood. And then I thought of you.”
Max set her cane down in the grass, smiling faintly at Steve’s headstone.
“I thought of the way you drove me around and patched up my skateboarding injuries and bought me milkshakes when I was said or angry but didn’t want to talk. I thought of the groceries you bought me when Mom was too drunk to remember or when there wasn’t enough money, even though I never asked and always said I didn’t need your charity. And you fucking saved my life, over and over again, like that’s a normal thing to do. You jumped in front of a demodog for me when you hadn’t even known me for a day. You didn’t even know my name.”
There was a lump building in Max’s throat, tightening so much that it hurt to talk. But she had to. It had been so hard to start and now the words were just spilling out.
“We always used to call you Mom, and we were teasing. Making fun of you cause you were some popular basketball guy but you also heckled us about our manners and picked us up from school and shit. And you acted all offended, but I saw you smiling a few times. You liked it,” she told the headstone accusingly. “You liked being our mom.”
The headstone didn’t say anything, but Max knew that if Steve were here he would be denying it, committed to the bit that he wasn’t their parent, just a reluctant babysitter.
Max cleared her throat. “And I was thinking… God, you were just a fucking kid. Like, I’m thirty-one and I have no idea what the fuck I’m doing. And you were nineteen, with seven kids and a monster dimension under your feet and you were still a good mom. So like, I guess I didn’t just have shitty parental figures in my life.”
Max glared at the headstone, as if daring it to judge her for being emotionally vulnerable. Not that Steve would have done that, even if he hadn’t been a bunch of bones in a coffin buried under the grass she was sitting on.
Steve would have probably been proud.
“So I’m gonna do all that shit,” Max said. “Drive the kid around and kiss her boo-boos and buy her milkshakes when she’s feeling bad. All the things that you did. And I guess maybe that means I can be a mom.”
She blinked and a tear rolled down her cheek. She wanted to swipe it away, but she didn’t. Steve deserved to be cried over.
They’d all moved away from Hawkins. Max only saw the town these days in her nightmares. But Steve’s grave was still here and sometimes it felt like they’d abandoned him. Even if there wasn’t a him left to abandon. Even if he would’ve wanted them to go, to escape this helltown and chase better lives elsewhere.
He’d been gone sixteen years. More than half her life.
It hurt to miss him still.
“I wish you were here,” Max whispered. “I wish I could talk to you for real. I wish you could tell me I’m not crazy for thinking Lucas and I can do this.”
Max let herself fall apart a little bit, crying over the future that would never happen. Steve would never come watch the baby so she and Lucas could go on a date night or finally get some sleep. He would never get to be the fun uncle, or the one her kid ran to when they were pissed at her and Lucas for some teenage drama. To her, he would never be anything more than a memory. To her child, he would never be anything more than a story about a long-dead stranger.
Max leaned forwards so she could touch the headstone, running her fingers over the letters that spelled out Steve’s name.
“You would’ve made a great Uncle Steve,” she whispered.
She bowed her head against the gravestone for a moment, resting her forehead against the cool rock.
Then she stood, wiping the tears off her cheeks and the grass stains off her jeans. She extended her cane and made her way out of the cemetery, pausing by the gates to turn her cell phone back on.
It kept dinging with missed calls, but Max ignored that, dialing a number by heart.
“Max?” Lucas’s voice was warm and concerned and so full of love that she almost started crying again.
“Lucas,” Max said. “I’m in Hawkins. I, uh, I had to talk to Steve.”
Lucas was quiet for a moment. Then he said, “Are you okay?”
Max nodded. “Yeah. I’m okay. I’m coming home.”

CHAPTER 4
TW: Blood, gore, abuse. Explicit 18+ only!
Two weeks, it had taken two fucking weeks for things to spiral so far down that Billy couldn't find a way out. Monsters in the woods. If Billy was being honest with himself, he'd always thought it would be his dad that killed him. Not some mutated bastard from another dimension but now Billy was starting to wonder.
Three days after Billy had nearly been mauled to death in the woods, someone else was. It was a boy, he was on the paper at Hawkins high and was trying to get home. Hopper found him in pieces.
They found another set of bodies four days later and Billy was panicking. Neil and Susan hadn't come home from their date. Billy had tried to stop them from leaving, he'd had Max locked up tight for the whole week he'd known, but the adults wouldn't listen.
Neil had clocked him once, real good across his jaw, told Billy they were going to the city over and they'd be back. But they didn't come home. Max was asleep on the couch, her feet slung across Billy's lap as he watched the news, waiting for an ID on the bodies they'd found last night.
It wasn't them. It was cheerleader Chrissy Cunningham and her boyfriend on the basketball team… Jason Carver. Billy knew them, he'd known them and now they were being buried in semi empty closed coffins. But the parents still weren't home.
Steve's brat called an emergency meeting, and Hopper issued a dusk curfew. Max dragged Billy over to the Wheeler's house where the dork squad gathered and immediately started screaming over each other. A plan, the idiot children came up with a plan.
“Not on your fucking life!” Billy snarled, he grabbed Max's arm and started to haul her out of the basement.
The kids swarmed him and Billy was one breath away from shoving them out of his way and driving back to California. But Steve interjected, he stepped in front of Billy hands up in a playacting manner.
“Hey, hey come on. Relax. I know it's hard, I know it's terrifying, but we've handled worse.” Steve spoke slowly, trying to soothe Billy.
“No, no. This is insane. I'm taking Max and we're getting out. People are dying! Chrissy is dead! Jason is dead! I'm not letting my kid sister get eaten because you all think you're super heroes or some bullshit!” Billy raged.
“I agree, I say we all get the hell outta this shit hole.” Lucas’ little sister said from her spot on the couch. “Fuck the rest of the people in this town, our friends and family. Let them get eaten while we run and hide and hope the things eatin them up don't come find us in California.”
Billy stared at her, he swallowed hard knowing she was right. What was to keep these things in Hawkins? Max grabbed his arm, he looked down at her, she gave him a reassuring look and Billy groaned.
The plan was to go out into the woods, with some superpowered kid (Billy did not take finding that out well.) and either take the monster out or capture it. Hopper, Joyce, Johnathan, Nancy, Steve and Billy were on guard duty for Eleven who was going to kill the thing.
“I don't think this is a good idea, pretty boy.” Billy whispered as they walked into the woods.
It wasn't. They managed to kill three of the 7 foot tall monsters and more than a few dogs, but they'd been quickly overrun. Jonathan was the first to go down, one of the dog things bit into his leg. Then Nancy was tackled to the ground where she hit her head on a rock. Joyce's arm was bitten and Hopper called for a retreat.
El had kept them from being killed but she couldn't hold them all back by herself. Steve had used his bat, he freed Johnathan from the monster on his leg and helped El take out one of the big ones. Hopper was keeping the dogs back, and helping down the tall ones so El could finish them.  Billy kicked the dog off Nancy before it could sink teeth or claw into her, and bashed in the skull of the one that clamped onto Joyce with his tire iron. But Billy had almost shit his pants when two of the tall things stalked toward them.
El had crushed them before Billy even had the chance to swing on them, feet planted and adrenaline running so rampant inside him Billy thought he'd throw up. Billy carried Nancy's unconscious body, Steve slung Jonathan's arm over his shoulders and the rest of them ran on their own out of the woods.
Once they made it into the bronco Billy started tying off Jonathan's leg, then Joyce's arm, he didn't know what to do for Nancy other than hold pressure on the gash in her scalp. Billy thought he'd been through the worst his short life had to offer, but that night proved him so wrong.
Jonathan, Joyce and Nancy ended up in the emergency room while Steve and Billy ended up back at Steve's house with all the kids. They set up a huge pallet on the floor in the basement, piling in blankets and pillows till all the kids looked comfortable. Steve and Billy brought down the TV and a stack of movies to keep the kids entertained.
“I don't wanna talk, pretty boy.” Billy whispered, knees to his chest and arms wrapped around himself.
Steve just sat next to Billy on the couch in the empty living room, he slumped down and let his head hang off the back of the couch. Billy noticed the thin black sweatpants and a new loose fitting shirt. They stayed like that for a while, just letting the terror of the night fade from their system.
“Showers free. Waters hot too, and I have your clothes from the last time. Nice and warm, they'll be out of the dryer in ten minutes.” Steve spoke softly, his voice tender and calm.
Billy turned to look at Steve who stared back, freshly scrubbed clean from his shower Steve looked so… Billy leaned over and kissed Steve.
Soft lips turned feverish, tongues sliding into each other's mouth as Billy moved to straddle Steve. Frenzied hands worked to pull off each other's clothes, Billy's blood stained fingers making a dark contrast against Steve's pale beauty marked skin.
Steve rolled them so Billy was laying face up on the couch. Billy lifted his hips to help Steve strip him. Steve's weight on top of him made Billy feel safe, the kisses making his body warm and the press of Steve's cock inside him making him feel full.
It was slow, and sensual, a tender contrast to the quick brutal terror of the woods. Billy sighed softly as Steve left feather light kisses across his neck, jaw and lips, while rolling his hips up into Billy causing an orgasm to crest.
“I love you.” Steve whispered into Billy's ear, making him moan in pleasure. “I love you, I love you”
The words were repeated and signed with a kiss across Billy's skin and in the morning Billy could still hear the words repeating in his head.

Chapter Thirty-One — Legacy
It didn’t go into the little thing Zeke made to listen to these, not at first at least — it was shoved into some port on his computer as he typed away, looking for something. Analyzing it, I came to realize. When the only thing that popped up on it was ‘AUDIO FILE’ with a jumble of letters and numbers after the fact, he pulled it out of the computer and put it into his invention at a speed that should have broken both.
5k words | 16-20 min read time | TRIGGER WARNINGS: Child death, death, 'hallucinations' in a way, mass death, violence (not visually described).
⚠ AUTHOR'S NOTE: 5k words, and less than half came from my mind. There's someone else who deserves the accolades for this chapter, and it's because she spent 4 hours on mic with me as we wrote this together months ago. Her friendship was the first gift of many I received from being in this fandom, so naturally she had to be the first to feature in Erosion. Thanks @codenamehazard for being the best supporter, helping me lay down the groundwork for Erosion and [you know ;)], and giving me a chance to siphon show your talents in my own fic. Love ya girl!!!

Everyone froze. Even the cicadas outside stopped screaming after Zeke said that. Dr. Sims didn’t look surprised at all — he just moved to look down at the floor. Brent, wide eyed, looked across the room over at me, frozen mid-step.
And Dad? He was glaring. “Yeah, we’re done here.” he said flatly, moving off of the wall to stand. “Brent, Jean — go upstairs and start packing your things—”
“Delsin—” Dr. Sims began before Dad cut him off.
“No, Eugene,” he snapped. “You can’t expect me to believe that shit, c’mon.”
“It’s true—” Zeke began to defend.
“Bullshit!”
Zeke stood so fast that the gaming chair he was sitting in launched back, hitting the desk and rattling the monitors on it. He was gone, storming off into the hallway by the stairwell, towards the room he told us was his and throwing open the door he said we could knock on if we ever needed him.
“I can’t believe you brought me here for information like that,” Dad scoffed, looking at Dr. Sims. “Time travel? Really?”
“Is it that far-fetched when we’re talking about the Beast?” Dr. Sims asked, keeping his composure under Dad’s scrutiny with ease.
“You’re trying to get me to believe time travel exists, Eugene. Do you not hear yourself?” Dad demanded. “I’m trying to help my kid, not play some Back to the Future fantasy—”
“I know it’s a lot to take in—”
“A lot?” Dad demanded, stepping closer to Dr. Sims. “A lot? You’re telling me time travel exists and Kessler didn’t manage to stop the Beast? He still managed to fuck it up?”
Dr. Sims sighed. “If you just let us explain it—”
“No.” Dad cut him off, holding up a hand. He looked furious. “I’m not gonna listen to you tell me fucking lies like this. You didn’t lose anything to the Beast or the plague — I did. I’m not gonna be mocked—”
A loud and harsh bang resounded in the middle of Dad’s argument, making me yelp with a jerk and scaring Brent enough to turn the tips of his hair silver. Zeke stood at the edge of the room, a small metal chest at his feet. For the first time since we got here, he looked angry at Dad, like he was ready for a fight.
Zeke bent down and unlatched the chest, throwing the lid open so hard it bounced off of the frame once. He began digging away in the chest, pulling out things one by one; a yellow and black jacket, a weird backpack with one strap. They all came out and were set down in one fluid, anger-fueled movement as Zeke looked for something. “The last thing Kessler did before he died was give Cole a picture,” Zeke began to explain as he pulled an old leather wallet out of the chest. “You heard the dead drop about Trish — tell me something.”
He stomped up right to Dad, and held out the picture for him to take. “How do I have a photo of them on their wedding day if he never got to propose to her?”
Dad kept his scowl but something in his vision changed as he reached out to take the photograph Zeke held out. Brent moved immediately to look at it from over Dad’s shoulder and it only took a moment till my resolve broke and I stood, moving to Dad’s other side.
It was an old photograph, one of those print out ones you’d get at like, a Walmart photo center. The main focus of the photograph was the bride, who looked straight at the camera with a dazzling smile, veil caught in the light breeze of a spring wind. Cole was there, the actual Cole, features way softer than the ones on his statue as he pressed his forehead to his wife’s temple, looking at her through his lashes. Even Zeke was there in sunglasses and with a smile, face thinner and less wrinkled.
“Cole never even got to propose to Trish,” Zeke insisted. “But Kessler? He had two children with her, and they all died to the Beast.”
Dad took a moment to look up from the picture, eyes meeting Zeke’s. “You’re asking me to trust that Kessler, the man that killed this woman, was in love with her? That he killed his own wife?”
“I didn’t say it made sense, I just said it was true,” Zeke retorted, crossing his arms. “Kessler wanted to make sure Cole would make all the hard choices. He ran when the Beast first showed up in his time. He took away Cole’s ability to be swayed.”
Dad looked back down at the photo. And, slowly, he shook his head. “I don’t believe you,” he said simply, no emotion in his voice.
“Delsin—“ Dr. Sims chimed from the side.
“No, Eugene.” Dad snapped. “There’s no proof besides this picture. How am I supposed to trust this when the man that could confirm it is dead?” Dad breathed deeply like he was trying to keep from spewing a slew of curse words. “I’m here just for the First Sons’ base location. That’s it. I don’t need to hear about this stupid little fairytale — just where this base is. If it wasn’t for her?” He said, jabbing a thumb my way. “I would have already left.”
Dad’s expression looked like it wasn’t up for any sort of debate or conversation, which no one dared to attempt. Zeke sort of scoffed and snatched the old dog-eared photograph from Dad before turning back to the chest full of Cole’s things, yanking up the partially folded jacket off of the ground to throw back in with the rest.
And in the awkward silence of it all, there was the softest little clatter as a small chip came flying away from the jacket and skittered across the floor to my feet.
I stepped back once, bending down to pick up the chip. There was miniscule writing on it in a silvery sort of ink and a chicken scratch that looked like it was due more to shaky hands than anything else: for Zeke.
“Uh, here,” I said, holding it out for him to take.
He just stayed staring at my outstretched hand like it was poisonous, mouth opening and closing like a fish with nothing coming out of it. Not until he seemed to choke on air in an effort to speak. “That shouldn’t be there,” he muttered.
“What?”
That chip was out of my hand in an instant and Zeke was flying across the room, nearly tripping over his gaming chair in an effort to get into it. “How did I never fucking look in the pockets?” he chastised the air, growling.
Dad glanced over at me before looking at the back of Zeke’s head. “I uh…what is it?”
“I don’t know,” Zeke responded. “I don’t know,”
It didn’t go into the little thing Zeke made to listen to these, not at first at least — it was shoved into some port on his computer as he typed away, looking for something. Analyzing it, I came to realize. When the only thing that popped up on it was ‘AUDIO FILE’ with a jumble of letters and numbers after the fact, he pulled it out of the computer and put it into his invention at a speed that should have broken both.
The chip reader crackled as it struggled to read the piece, making a couple clicking noises like it was stuttering before it came to life. There was a bit of shuffling on the line, and a grunt as someone moved with the noise before humming. “Alright.” the voice mumbled to itself. It had a natural rasp that was strained, like he was sick or had a stuffy nose. There was an airiness that gave to a wheeze, like he had spent the last day and a half either crying or smoking a carton of cigarettes. He just seemed so tired. He cleared his throat harshly once, and then started talking. “Audio log, date—” he started before cutting off. There was a pause before he mumbled, “What was today?” to himself, counting off in mutterings before scoffing and saying, “Fuck it.”
Zeke’s hand shot over his mouth, and he paled. “Holy shit,” he whispered.
Professionalism abandoned, the man sighed, taking a moment to gather himself. “Zeke, if you’re listening to this, I’m…I’m already dead. There’s no other way to say it — I’m dead.” Even now, so many years in the future and a good seven feet away, I could hear him swallow thickly, like he wasn’t even really ready to digest the fact himself. “There’s been a lot I’ve wanted to say to you. A lot I’ve been…holding back, but I just never could say, ‘cause how would I? I know we’ve seen insane but the shit that’s been going on with me? It’s just — would you even believe me?”
“I would’ve, Cole” Zeke muttered in the silence.
Cole. Cole MacGrath. My eyes widened so large they felt like they were gonna pop out of my head as I looked at Dad, who’s brow was furrowed as he looked at the little speaker.
“You remember the dreams I talked about, back in Empire?” Cole asked, like Zeke could respond to him then or now. “They never stopped. If anything…they got worse. I started to see—” his voice cracked and he stopped short before continuing, “I started to see…in my dreams, what life could have been. I saw Trish. I saw my daughters.” He huffed, sniffing hard, like he was trying to decide whether to cry or celebrate. “Twins, can you believe it? Beautiful girls. I saw it all — how we struggled to even have them and the day they were born. Amaris and Elena…my sun and moon. We fought to conceive and then they were premature and there was…for a while, we thought we were going to lose them. I’d let them hold my finger sometimes and just whisper to them to keep fighting because I didn’t want them to be alone. I could feel their weight when I was allowed to hold them for the first time. They were so small. Weighed practically nothing. But holding them, something Trish and I got to make? It felt like I was holding the world. I would’ve done anything for them. Protect them, take care of them, love them — I would’ve been the father I never got. I got to see them grow up, too. Amaris was a wild free-spirit that we could barely contain, and Elena…she was so gentle. I loved them both so much, Zeke, and I’ll never even get to have them now. I would’ve done anything for them…”
Dad shifted on my left and I looked at him in time to see him bring a hand to his chin to rub it, eyes wet. Brent was staring at some fixed spot in the wall across from him, face steeled in all ways but actually.
Cole exhaled shakily, hard enough for the mic on the recorder to cackle with static. “But there was more, so much more. I saw the chaos, the destruction, everything Kessler showed me and then some. Saw a world turned upside down, an apocalyptic wasteland where everyone and everything was insane. I saw complete and utter annihilation. I saw a world that no matter what I did, it didn’t matter. That one scares me the most — to do everything right and it didn’t fucking matter.” he growled that last word.
“And the part that scares me the most is that these do not feel like dreams.  These do not feel like nightmares. They feel too real.” He insisted. “They feel like — god, as insane as it sounds, they feel like visions.”
That dam that was holding back his emotion cracked, and he gasped. “I’m becoming like Kessler,” he realized in a haunted whisper. “I’m becoming like Kessler, I’m…”
Zeke’s head fell into his hands as Cole’s voice broke and he began to gasp for air, choking back sobs. My cast was pressed so hard to my mouth that I could practically feel its design imprinting on my skin as I tried to keep quiet. He sounded so broken, so scared. This Kessler guy was enough to scare the man that took on the Beast. He was on the brink of hysterics.
He paused for a moment to inhale shakily. “Still, I can’t get that thought outta my head, that one nightmare — that one vision. That I could do everything right and it doesn’t fucking matter. That nobody will see me except for the Demon of Empire City. The power–fueled terrorist that started the plague and destroyed Empire City.”
Brent shook his head and cracked, beginning to pace back and forth in front of Dad and I. Dad’s head was hung low, hands on his hips and his face obscured by his hair. I couldn’t even move from where I was. There wasn’t enough power in the world that could get me to summon my feet to step, not when my legs felt like lead.
“That Conduits could never be seen as anything other than monsters and tools. That I could give everything to save everyone, do everything right, be the hero that everyone wants, that that man groomed me to be…and it doesn’t fucking matter.” Cole continued. “That all of this, all of this pain, all of this suffering, all of this loss — your betrayal, Trish’s death, the loss of what could have been — meant fuckall!
“And none of this matters. None of it matters.” Cole blubbered. “Don’t matter what I do, I fail. No matter what I do, no matter how hard I try…I fail. I fail you, I fail Trish, I fail my daughters. No matter what I do, I’m a failure…just like Kessler. God…no matter what I do, I fail. I’ve become just like Kessler. A failure.” Cole’s voice got louder the further he rambled until it cracked with his held back screams — and a zap. “A fucking failure!” He bellowed, voice cracking. There’s a crash, and more follow, the static on the recorder more electrical than noise as Cole rampaged.
His voice would wail over the sound of destruction, nonsensical rambling that would occasionally be something we could hear. “"They were twins, twins! My little girls, my sun and moon. I failed them! I failed them all!" He screamed at some point, Zeke’s shoulders beginning to shake with silent sobs as he said that. “I‘m going to fucking become him! A failure!” He screams again. “"I killed them! I killed them! My wife, my daughters! They're dead, I killed them!” There was another hard crash, like a pile of something metal collapsed under his rage. “The blood on his hands stain mine! They’re dead because of me! They’re dead because I was a fucking coward the first time and a murderer the second! We’re the same fucking person! They’re dead because of me!”
There was more crashing, more loud screaming that devolved into something incoherent. I wasn’t even sure Cole was trying to talk anymore — he was just angry. But I have never, never heard wailing like that from someone before, a desperate and painstricken sound that vibrated my core. It was enough to actually make my heart hurt, to make me choke back my own sobs. My little whimper as I held back my tears caught Brent’s attention as he passed in front of me. Brent himself has splotches of red across his face from holding back his own sobs, and both of our eyes were glistening when they met. He moved to stand beside me instead of pace and threw an arm over my shoulder, letting me tuck into his side and use his chest to hide the noise of my crying.
And then everything on the recording stopped. Everything except for Cole’s quiet crying. There’s shuffling as the recorder is readjusted and he sniffs hard, coughing to clear his throat. “I want to be wrong.” He murmurs, exhausted. “I hope to god I’m wrong. I…I don’t want you to live in a world like that, Zeke.” Zeke himself began sobbing quietly. “I…I just, I’ve been holding all this back because I didn’t wanna worry you. You’ve got enough problems, you’re dying yourself. You’re suffering from the Plague, I didn’t need you to worry about me. It was my burden to bear. And don’t lie. You would’ve.” He huffs a chuckle, as if he could already hear how Zeke was muttering that he should have told him anyways.
“I want you to be happy.” Cole says simply. “And I’ll still try to do everything right, in the hopes that I’m wrong. I want to be wrong so fucking bad. So that you can live in a world where Conduits aren’t seen as things to be used or monsters to be scared of. So that Conduits can be seen as you see me — just another person. Someone…with fears and hopes and lives and families. Just another person.
“I’m so fucking scared. I don't wanna die.” Cole MacGrath, the Cole MacGrath, said with this haunted tone like the severity of the situation was only just beginning to settle in his chest. “It seems like fate’s got it out for us, huh? Maybe it doesn’t even matter then, if I even do the right thing. That blast core from the Vermaak makes seven, and I’m ready for the RFI. We’ve just gotta charge it some more…but I don’t even know if this whole thing will work — it’s a huge gamble. What if the RFI doesn’t wipe out the Plague? What if it just kills Conduits, kills the Beast, and leaves you all to die slowly? God...so many people are going to die either way, but what if we're wrong? What if everyone dies?”
Cole paused, breathing shakily. “So much goddamn blood on my hands…everyone’s. It doesn’t matter if I did it as Cole, or as Kessler — this is all my fault. Everything lies in this gamble, Zeke. This is more than just coming out short on a slot machine — this could be the end of it all. We could be wrong. The RFI could fail, and all that happens is I kill all of humanity.”
“But…” Cole drew off, another popping sound interfering with the mic. ”I’m willing to take that risk, just for that slight chance that I’m wrong.” His voice is more resolved, even if it still sounded weak. “That this works, and it heals you and gets rid of the Beast. So that you can live and be happy…and so you can live in a world where things are a little more peaceful. I wish it didn’t have to be this way. I’ve learned this lesson the hard way — you can’t always have what you want. Isn’t that right? But I’ve literally lost everything…except for you, Zeke. You’re all I have left. The only family Kessler allowed me to keep. I don’t have Trish. I’ll never get to know my baby girls. So I’ll do it for you.”
Cole’s voice cracked again on you, and it was almost like I could envision him running his hands over his face to calm himself down. “You’re off with Laroche right now doing God knows what to charge the RFI. I don’t know where Nix is, and Kuo…I don’t even want to think about her. We never got to talk after I tested the RFI. I know as soon as that thing’s charged, if I don’t set it off then…then I never will. So…I guess this is goodbye.” he said so casually, so resigned. Like in that small amount of time, he accepted that this was it. “Sorry it can’t be in person, but there’s not enough time for formalities. We were never the type to give a shit about them anyways.” Cole gasped quietly, trying to hold back another wave of emotion. “I love you brother,” he said, voice quivering. “And I’m…I’m sure gonna miss you,”
Cole almost immediately began quietly sobbing by the end of his farewell, the sound echoing through the silent stilt house as the recording stopped. Zeke’s whole body shook as he was wracked with quiet sobs, Brent’s arm was heavy around me and I just knew it was because we were feeling the weight of all of this on both of our shoulders.
Cole was…scared, by the end. Barely able to deal with the fact that he needed to die, and that he was taking out so many people with him. That recording was the final plea of a man wanting nothing more than to be wrong, and I wasn’t even sure if he got what he wanted. I couldn’t reliably decide, at least, by the time I calmed myself down.
Dad breathed deeply and raised his head, arms crossed over his chest. He had that stoic look he reserved for interrogations, but it didn’t hide how red his eyes were. “You weren’t lying.” He said simply, looking at Zeke’s back. “I’m sorry.”
Zeke’s head slowly raised. “Kessler was a desperate sonofabitch, who was willing to do anything to stop the Beast. And that included hurting himself.”
“We don’t know how he did it.” Dr. Sims said from the side. He himself had a rogue tear on his cheek that he hastily swiped away. “We just know it’s true.”
Dad rubbed the growing scruff on his face and sighed. “We can ask more questions later.” he decided, looking at Zeke. The man was still hunched into himself, refusing to look at us; Dad probably thought now was a terrible time to ask some clarifying questions. “But I still think our best option is to find the First Sons’ old base.”
Dr. Sims pushed off of the wall and walked over to where Zeke was, gently putting a hand on his shoulder. “I can go through the rest of the dead drops,” he offered Zeke quietly. “Why don’t you go take a moment?”
Zeke nodded, struggling to find the will to stand. He pulled the chip out of the reader and held it like it was gold, gently putting it back into the pocket of that yellow and black jacket before closing the chest and lifting it, refusing to look at anyone. His echoing footsteps resounded the first floor until his bedroom door closed, leaving us all in the remnants of what was his past.
“Holy shit, Eugene,” Dad breathed, looking over at his friend, eyes wide. “Time travel. Time travel.”
“I know,” Dr. Sims breathed. “I still wonder how he did it. It keeps me up at night.”
“So this Kessler asshole has been a part of it from the beginning and the end.” Dad shook his head. “Jesus…”
Brent’s arm withdrew from my shoulder and he let me move away to sit on the couch, shaking his head slowly. “It still doesn’t make sense,” he mutters. “Why kill his wife instead of keeping her safe? Why keep Zeke alive?”
I drew my knees into my chest the moment I sat down, trying to breathe deeply. I wasn’t even sure how to process this. Time travel! There’s ways to time travel, and Kessler learned to do it to try and stop the Beast.
That thought made me stop. “Dad?” I asked, lifting my head from my knees.
Dad paused his chatting with Dr. Sims to look over. “What’s up, Jeanie?”
“Kessler came back to stop the Beast, right?” I began, “And he was from the future so he…he probably knew who it was. But…John worked with Kessler. John even said in one of the dead drops he was promoted to work directly with him. Why not stop him when he had the chance? Before he became the Beast?”
“He said that?” Dr. Sims asked as Dad’s mouth froze mid response, the weight of the question hanging in the air.
Brent held up a hand as if to correct me. “He said something about Kessler knowing he had an important destiny, remember?” He asked, looking between Dad and I. “If he knew John was the Beast and wanted to stop him, why not just kill him before all of that happened?”
Something wasn’t adding up and we were all beginning to realize it, especially as Dad and Dr. Sims glanced at each other uncomfortably. “That…doesn’t matter,” Dad finally decided. “Not anymore. They’re all dead, there’s no one to ask. All we need to worry about right now is finding this place the ice soldiers were made to see if there’s any sort of connection to Archangel.”
Dad walked over to Dr. Sims’ side as he sat in the gaming chair, leaving Brent and I to share a look, the type that said no matter what was going on, we didn’t believe it. Kessler came back in time in search of a way to stop the Beast, and all he did was ruin lives — including his own. He murdered who was supposed to be his wife, gave his own past self trauma, and yet didn’t even try to stop the man beside him that was the actual Beast?
It didn’t make sense, and I wasn’t sure if there was any explanation that would make it make sense.
Dad and Dr. Sims went through the remaining dead drop chips that would load, painting the rest of the confusing picture on what happened here, at least; Bertrand being angry about whatever sort of Conduit he was, believing God wanted him to be more. There was another Conduit that roamed the swamps and attacked Bertrand’s men — a service more than an issue, in my opinion — and Dr. Wolfe and Kuo decided along with John that Cole was who they needed to fight the Beast.
A suggestion made by John White himself, which left us with even more questions than answers.
But finally, finally, the answer came to us in a talk between Wolfe and Bertrand, “File A435,” he clarified in his accent.
“That new facility you folks are building below the Carriage House, it’s….overwhelming,” he purred, like the sight of it did something to him sexually. I nearly gagged at his voice. “Hats off to you, Doctor.”
Wolfe had the nerve to sound proud. “Our technology is a hundred years ahead of the rest of the world.”
“Don’t be so modest,” Bertrand said. I swear, his accent sounded sloppier coming out of his mouth because of how hard it was watering. “When I joined the First Sons, they told me that they had technology a hundred years ahead. Now? That sounds conservative! When I saw that place I thought I’d been abducted by a UFO!”
Brent snorted slightly on the side and nearly managed to make me laugh; the man sounded ridiculous.
“Sorry for the confusion,” Wolfe murmured, that making me giggle a bit. Dad shot a look at both of us and sharply hushed us, making me bite down on my lips to try and stifle the sound.
“They were just caves before,” Bertrand reminisced. “I knew them well. Played in them as a child. They were a part of the underground railroad, smuggling escaped slaves outta town. Then it was prohibition and whiskey instead of slaves. Now! Now, we’re smuggling in the future.”
The dead drop beeped twice, signaling its end. “Carriage House,” Dad said, looking at Dr. Sims. “That’s where we need to go. Where is that?”
Dr. Sims moved to use Zeke’s computer, typing away. “I’m not…not sure,” he muttered. Playing with the mouse and keyboard wasn’t enough, apparently, as he raised his hand to the screen and touched it, both turning bright blue. Bursts of binary littered the computer’s screen as he used his powers to search for an answer.
“Man, I wish my power was that cool,” Brent muttered, glancing at me. I couldn’t help but agree.
Dr. Sims growled. “Damnit. Turns out Carriage House isn’t a place, but a building almost every plantation had.” He removed his hand, the screen regaining color — and showing a map of New Marais. “Our best bet would be to go to the Ascension Parish and look around the plantations, see if we get lucky.” Dr. Sims pointed to a section on the map.
Dad rubbed his face, looking absolutely exhausted at the idea. “Okay. Alright, then we should go. The sooner the better, especially since that’s on the other side of New Marais.”
“I’m coming with you.”
We all turned towards the hall, where Zeke was standing hidden in the shadows. He leaned against the wall, arms crossed and looking down at the floor. Or, he was, until Dad spoke up, saying, “I don’t think that’s a good idea—“
“Cole did everything he could for shit like this to not happen,” Zeke said, pushing off of the wall and stepping into the room. “He fought for a peace we ain’t getting. If I can make a bit of that happen? If I can stop some assholes the First Sons mighta helped make? Then I’m doing it. Besides, I haven’t been to the Parish in years — maybe being out there will jog my memory on where this carriage house could be,”
Dad turned his back to Zeke to look at Dr. Sims, his face practically screaming at his friend to tell Zeke to stay here. “We could use the help,” Dr. Sims says, more pointedly at Dad than to Zeke’s offer.
Zeke smiled, hiding his eyes behind a pair of sunglasses. “Guess this is a good time to tell y’all I’ve got a ride too, huh?”

Want more from Xeno? Check out her Evil!Cole Apocalypse AU, inFAMOUS: No Man's Land:
Two years has passed since Cole made the choice that decided the fate of Humans and Conduits alike. Two years since becoming the Beast and saving Conduit-Kind by awakening them. After having the burden of being the "messiah" thrust upon him and dealing with the hardships that came with it, Cole finally has enough. He breaks away from the army he reared and takes off into the Wildlands of the Great Plains, where new opportunities await for the Demon of Empire City to claim.
Not only is Xeno’s story an original twist on a classic AU, but her character voice over Cole MacGrath is so good you’ll feel like you’re listening to Eric Ladin read it to you himself. She did all Cole pieces in this chapter! I cannot suggest it enough if you’re an inFAMOUS 1+2 fan, and hey, even if you’re new here — give it a shot. Who doesn’t love conduits, Mad Max style car chases, and the sort of bogeymen Bertrand would be terrified of?

Part 2 of the last fic. Still not proofread. Might edit later.
Everyone has a response to terror. An instinct when the blood runs cold. Fight, flight, fawn, and freeze. The Ray family’s response to terror, is freak the fuck out.
“Dad, stop it, let her go!” Glen screamed.
“Glen, go to your room, the adults are talking,” Chucky said. Tiffany made a reach for the knife, but Chucky kept it out of reach. She was pinned against the wall and couldn’t move an inch without him noticing. Glen ran up to their dad and pulled at his shoulder. Their father just rolled his eyes. And when they started hitting him, he turned his head and released one hand to grab Glen and shove them to the ground.
Tiffany saw her chance and grabbed the antler of the deer skull. It popped out of the socket and she bashed the back of his skull as he turned back around. He didn’t go down but she didn’t think he would. He let go and staggered back. She could work with what she had. She walked around him, putting distance between her and the wall, as he recovered.
“Okay Andy, now that you’re back, maybe we can have a mature conversat…” before she could finish he had torn the deer antler from her hands and used it to bash her knee, sending her to the ground.
“Fuck Tiff, that took me hours!” he responded, tossing away the antler. He kneeled over her.
“You’re still you” she said, confused. He put his hands on her throat again
“Yeah, different piece, different body, different rules,” he said. Glen grabbed their head and tried to squint away the black spots in their vision.
“Anyway, I don’t know what you thought bringing Andy back would accomplish. He wants you dead just as much as I do,” he said, his grip tightened around her throat again
“Maybe more,” he shrugged, “I mean, ya killed his sister,” Tiffany’s eyes widened.
“...Didn’t,” she choked out.
“Oh please, you set up the bomb, I was a severed head at the time, even if I helped. You did it!” he responded, emphasizing the last sentence.
“Not…dead…” she said. “What?” he responded, taken aback, his grip loosened slightly.
“Kyle’s… not… dead” she said. His hands were off his throat, and he fell back leaning on his feet. He looked visibly shaken. Tiffany took the chance to kick him in the gut and knock him back so she could get up. Glen came over and helped her up. Andy grabbed the top of the end table to pull himself up. He leaned against the wall for support and grabbed his head with one of his hands, squinting with pain. Before Tiffany could even think about what to do next. Andy had pulled the knife back out and was pointing it at her.
“Talk! Now,” he demanded. Tiffany was unfazed, Glen could see that. She went to the couch and sat down. Her knee seemingly recovered.
“She’s not dead, don’t know how she survived, but she’s alive, she’s off with Nica and Glenda,” Tiffany said. Glen walked over to Andy. They were trying to get him to sit down, but he wouldn’t budge.
“How do you know this?” he asked.
“I called Glenda from a payphone and I overheard her on the other end,” she said.
“You could be lying,” he said.
“I could. But you and I both know I’m not,” she responded. Andy looked away from both of them.
“Kyle’s alive,” he said. He was smiling, Glen never saw him smile that big. It only lasted a second before the same consistent terror in his eyes came back stronger than ever.
“This is good news right, your sister’s alive, she can help you,” Glen said in a panic, trying to support Andy and get him to sit down.
“You knew, didn’t you?” he asked. Glen really was a shit liar.
“I managed to steal my phone back and call Glenda for a second, and they told me,” they said.
“Must have been after me, because they didn’t seem to know about Andy’s predicament,” Tiffany said. Glen glared at her for a second before looking away.. “I didn’t get a chance to tell them, Dad broke my phone before I could,” Glen said.
“Did you tell them?” Andy asked, Tiffany chuckled.
“Of course not, that bitch stole my girlfriend, why would I give her help?” Tiffany said. Glen expected anger, or fear, but all of a sudden, Andy stood taller than before. He took a deep breath.
“Glen, do you remember what I told you?” he asked. After finding dad’s spare keys. He had told them how to get to the nearest gas station and told them he had a plan and how he’d tell them he was enacting it. Glen nodded.
“I’m gonna need you to run now,” Andy said. Before Glen could react, Andy was in dad’s bedroom. They heard the door lock and a key fall down the sink drain.
“C’mon Barclay, you got one shot here,” he said under his breath. Glen stood there. Once they heard their dad again, they could run. They’d borrow a phone at the gas station and call Glenda. Their mom was smiling.
…
Then they heard their father screaming.
“HE SLIT MY FUCKING WRISTS!” Glen’s face blanched. Tiffany grabbed their hand and tried to pull them to the door.
“C’mon Glen, let’s get out of here,” Tiffany said with a warm smile. Glen could hear their father looking under the floorboards for the spare key and screaming in horror when he didn’t find them. Glen reached into their pocket where they had all the keys.
“Glen, champ, I need you to open the door,” he sounded desperate.
“Glen, we need to leave,” Tiffany said.
“Glen, open the door!” he demanded.
“Ignore him Glen, he can’t hurt you now,” Tiffany said, petting Glen’s hair and trying to guide their head to make them look at her and not at the bedroom door.
“But… he’ll die,” Glen said.
“Your father has tried to kill us before, there’s no reason to protect him, plus he’s got other pieces of him, so it’s not even really death,” Tiffany said, trying again to pull them out the door.
“GLEN OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR!”  he was begging
“What about Andy?” Glen asked, concerned.
“What about Andy?” Tiffany asked, confused.
“Andy’s dying,” Glen said.
“And…” Tiffany said, before noticing Glen’s concern.
“He’s my friend,” Glen said, they sounded small.
“Look, Andy Barclay, is an annoying pest with little to live for who wants nothing more than to kill your parents. He’s made his choice. This doesn’t have to be our problem anymore,” Tiffany said, she held both of Glen’s hands. Glen finally looked their mother in the eyes.
“You knew he’d do this, didn’t you?” Glen asked. Tiffany looked away for a second. Before looking back in Glen’s burning eyes.
“He threw himself off a cliff when he thought she was dead, it was fair to assume he’d die to keep her safe,” Tiffany said. Glen pulled their hands away.
“Glen, I’m sorry, I know I’ve been shitty. I’ll be better. Please… I don’t want to die,” he was begging.
“I think you should leave,” Glen said to their mother. They opened the bedroom door. Their father was trying to press down on his wounds with white washcloths that had been soaked red.
“What do you need me to do,” Glen asked their father. He gave them a small smile. “Get the first aid kit from the cabinet next to the kitchen. I’ll walk you through stitching up my wrists,” he said. Glen nodded. They went to grab the kit. Tiffany just stared at them in disbelief. When they got back, their dad started talking.
“Thank you kiddo. I meant what I was saying, I’m going to be kinder, more patient. We’re going to fix this, all of it,” he said.
“Okay dad,” Glen said with a nod.
“I love you kiddo,” he said.
“I love you too dad,” they responded. Chucky pulled them in for a hug, dripping blood down their back. As Tiffany watched, Chucky flipped her off behind Glen.

y'know what, fuck it. time for some trauma dumping. big CW for child abuse, neglect, and self harm
I'm a victim of the terrible US adoption agency!
I was adopted at the age of three. I only have one memory of my time before being adopted, and it was a happy memory that admittedly has some really concerning connotations, but all I really have to go off was what people told me was reported to CPS and my biological mom denying all of it, so Idk I'll just leave this part of my past untouched for now. maybe it was a good idea to remove us, maybe it was total bullshit, either way there is no reason in hell I should have been given to the family I was given to
first of all, my two older siblings and I were promised that we wouldn't ever be separated, only for me to almost immediately be separated from them, and us put into two separate families in completely different cities
I don't know anything about how my siblings were raised, but they went back to our bio mom almost as soon as they each turned 18, so that doesn't bode well. also apparently their adoptive parents wouldn't let them see me more than like once or twice besides at the rare events where it was unavoidable, so yeah
onto the family I was adopted into
____
My adoptive dad has terrible anger issues. any little thing could set him off. like literally just stopping for a second, because whatever was on TV caught my eye while I was walking past while getting ready for school, was enough for him to yell at me. my mom would warn us when he was coming home from work that he was "in a bad mood" sometimes, which basically meant we better be on our absolute best behavior and not annoy him by telling him the joke I heard on TV earlier that day that I thought was really funny
frequently, he would hit me. his go to was slapping. mind you, not spanking (as bad as that is already). slapping. across the face. it got to a point where I developed a dread of getting out of bed in the morning, because the longer I hid on my top bunk, the longer I could stay away from him. I literally don't have a single memory of a school morning where I wasn't slapped around at some point. 9/10 I didn't even know why it was happening. he would never have a talk with me about why I was being punished, just kinda told me "you know what you did"
one day in like 5th or 6th grade I had enough and after he hit me, I hit him back and said "stop hitting me" and his response was to slap me the hardest he's ever done. I fell to my hands and knees, and after I got back up and walked away, my nose started gushing blood. he'll insist to this day that it was just that I was upset and it was cold outside (we were inside where it was reasonably comfortably warm) but I know for a fact that it was because he knocked something loose in there or something like that.
a girl at school noticed the clot in my nose and asked about it, and I told her what happened. she told an adult on my behalf (without me asking, btw). later that night my dad told me to explain to the principal the next day that it was "just spanking for discipline" and that he wasn't abusing me.
One day I was told to clean my adoptive brother and my shared bedroom, and I said "but that's his mess, why doesn't he have to clean it up? it's not fair" and he screamed at me, saying "you have ten seconds to get up there and get that room clean or I'm kicking your ass into next week, is that fair?" and, because I'm autistic and didn't realize it was a hypothetical, I said "no, it's not". he grabbed me by the collar, shoved my head in the nearby kitchen sink, and started blasting me in the face with the spray nozzle. he kept me down for what felt like forever, and I felt like I was drowning the entire time
when I got into high school, he stopped hitting me as often, but there was that one time my brother refused to clean up after his dog after it diarrhea-ed under my bed (for days on end, and I had to sleep right above it) and instead of making him or punishing him, my dad just told me to do it instead. I refused, and my dad shoved me against the closet door, knocking both it off its slider, and a lot of slats out, and then started pulling on my hair as hard as he could while pushing back on my body. I only got out because I managed to accidentally him in the face while I was flailing in pain and desperation, then ran to the bathroom and looked the door and hid until he calmed down. even after all of this I still had to clean it up myself
in adulthood, it doesn't happen a lot, but we get into fist fights sometimes. mostly now it's "just" verbal stuff, like making offhand comments about my weight (pretending he cares about my health when I call him out for it) for example. also even though the apartment we both lease (I hate this arrangement btw, but there's literally no other option for me rn) is equally under both our names, he insists that he is "king of the house" and that I'm "too autistic" to be in charge, when literally all I want is for us to treat each other as equals
btw I found out recently that in his mind, it's ok for a white person to say the N word (with a hard r and everything) as long as they weren't using it "against anyone" and that he wasn't "scared of a word". also he made a point to use the word as much as possible during that "discussion", with immaculate enunciation each time, far better than he was using for any other word of any sentence. I know this isn't abuse towards me, but I just want you to understand the kind of man I was given to. I will say though, I had asked him previously to try to help me de-escalate when our fights got too heated so they don't turn into fist fights anymore, and guess what he didn't do, and guess what happened
_____
on to my mom. as a kid she was my preferred parent. but that doesn't mean she was good.
she didn't slap me around, but she would spank me from time to time. this was rare, though there was the time she threatened to pull down my pants and slap me bare-ass naked in front of the entire store
her go to punishments was time-out, fair enough I guess, but she would leave me there way too long imo. honestly I think she would forget she put me there sometimes
there were plenty of times where she would tell me that we didn't have money for a seven dollar Bionicle set or a cheap Transformer or whatever, then add a new Coach purse to her collection a few days later
because of my autism, vegetables taste like poison to me. like, actual literal poison. I can't handle it at all. it makes me dry heave and everything. the bitterant on a Nintendo Switch cartridge is a sweet treat comparatively. I dreaded any time my mom made dinner because it would mean the potential of being given a seving of vegetables of some kind, and if that happened I was fucked, because she wouldn't let me get up until I finished them. she would do this in front of the extended family too, during holiday dinners, and berate me saying "look at all the other kids outside having fun, you could join them if you just eat your vegetables". there was one time I sat at the table until like 9 or 10 pm before she finally left me get up because I just couldn't bring myself to eat it. dinner was at like 5 or 6
when the whole bloody nose thing happened, she guilt tripped me by saying that if I ever told anyone about my dad's abuse again, that all us kids would be taken away, and (seemingly more important to her) that she would loose her job (she works with kids)
I only ever had friends over once in elementary school, for my birthday one year. unfortunately I spent most of that standing in a corner because I said a word that sounded vaguely like a cuss word or something I don't even know what it was about, but it was one of the most embarrassing days of my life. I finally build up the courage to invite friends over, and she does THIS!? yes of course I was made fun of for this at school
as I got older and started thinking for myself (and by that I mainly mean "coming out" as an athiest) she became a whole lot worse. she started finding any excuse to pick a fight with me, and would intentionally escalate me until my "anger issues" came out (in hindsight I know this was Ember coming out to try to defend me) just so she'd have an excuse to punish me by grounding me. she would especially target weekends where I had big plans with my girlfriend at the time.
Idk if this is abuse in some way, but one day I was watching a few episodes of The Addams Family with that girlfriend and I had my arm around her shoulder completely innocently and my mom sees us from the kitchen and pulls me in there and starts berating me for "sexualizing" my gf. I asked what the problem was, that I just had my hand on her shoulder like pretty much any couple does when they're watching something together and she was like "don't lie to me, I know where your hand was". note that this was all still well in earshot of the girlfriend. if I remember correctly we just kinda laughed it off and went back to watching our show
actually, that reminds me. she didn't want me and the girlfriend having sex, or showing physical affection of any kind really, because she didn't want any of the younger kids exposed to it. the sex part I totally get, but like kissing, hugging, and holding hands was too far as well. hell she would get antsy if we even sat on the same piece of furniture. wanna know how she would make sure we weren't having sex? she would send my younger brother to spy on us secretly and report to her if he ever caught us in the act. y'know, the younger brother she didn't want exposed to that sort of thing? to this day that gap in basic logic confounds me
there was this one time when I was just watching Netflix on my 3DS and my sister kinda stole the ability to watch Netflix from me on another device (my mom was only paying for one person to be able to use it at a time) so I let her watch an episode of her show before taking it back. my sister threw a fit over this, and my mom came in and got Ember and me so wound up that E threw a book (not even in anyones direction, and it landed harmlessly on the floor with nary a corner ruffled) and she called the police on me for it. her exact words to the dispatcher was "hello, I would like to press charges on my son..." I went into the kitchen and made her watch me self harm and told her straight up that she and my dad are the reason this happens. she looked at me dead in the eyes and said "I'm not the one holding the knife to your arm"
nowadays we have a sort of unspoken truce, though she refuses to accept that I'm trans or call me by my real name or use my pronouns because I'm autistic so according to her I don't know what I want from life (btw, remember when I said she worked with kids? it's in the mental health field, so by now that should terrify you)
______
they were both pretty neglectful. I mean I was fed, clothed (even though I didn't like any of the clothes) and never slept without a roof over my head, but they were emotionally neglectful (mainly I couldn't depend on them to help me when I was upset) and my ability to hold a conversation took a hit because they refused to show any interest in a conversation with me that lasted longer than like 30 seconds or whatever. to this day I still have it internalized that no one cares what I have to say and that I'm a nuisance to everyone around me. I also have a really hard time reaching out to people when I'm need help
I was the scapegoat of the family. any time one of the other kids did something wrong, and my parents weren't around to see it, I would be blamed immediately
when I started self harming in high school, instead of trying to help improve my life, or get to the bottom of why I was doing it, or anything like that, they punished me. I'm pretty sure I was grounded, and they definitely went through my room and took away anything metal, even if it wasn't even sharp at all
one day after moving out I was visiting my parents' house and I saw a notepad back and forth between my fellow adopted sibling and one of my parents, I don't know which one. it was something about them wanting him to do a chore and him not wanting to do it because he felt like shit that day or something. this went back and forth for a few pages until whichever parent it was said "we adopted you. you are our property. you will do what we say". so yeah mask off there, huh?

I spent most of my childhood hiding in my room playing video games. they became an escape, as well as a way to stay out of my parents' way
I have flashbacks to my dad's abuse frequently. sometimes I'll be so wrapped up in intrusive thoughts playing through my mom's arguments that I'll find myself responding to "her" verbally.
like I mentioned before I have a really hard time believing anyone cares about me
no joke I looked up a symptoms list of CPTSD like a month ago and I found I could tick off every single thing on the list that came up. I talked to my psychiatrist about it, hoping I could get a diagnosis (over time of course, I wasn't expecting it right away), but she kinda dismissed me and told me that I had to talk to a therapist about it, so yeah.
at this point literally all I want is a reasonably comfortable quiet life, maybe sharing a place with a partner or a few, and never having to look at or talk to my adoptive family again. I honestly don't know if I can start healing and bettering myself in any major ways until then

🎄Holiday Blues🎄
Tumblr media
I have thought! Hear me out!
I know we see Katsuki as like a holiday grouch/grinch
But what if it was Izuku?
What Izuku hates holidays like thanksgiving, christmas and new years because its always "spend time with your family, your loved ones"
But its only ever been him n his mom. Especially after his fall out with Katsuki even the Bakugos stopped coming around.
When Inko got sick it just had to be around the holidays. And when she passed it was around the holidays.
It was no dad, no best friend and then no mom.
For a really long time. So no Izuku doesnt like the holidays, no Izuku doesnt get excited.
Yes Izuku is sitting in a corner of the class 3-A dorms babysitting his hot chocolate while everyone else enjoys the christmas party.
He has tried to leave 3 times and just kept getting pulled right back. Izuku sighs sipping his hot chocolate before walking toward the front of dorms and leaving out the front door.
Kirishima slaps a hard hand into Katsuki chest
"Bro whats up with Midoriya he looks like he rather die then be here" He says
Katsuki slaps his hand "Get off me meathead"
Katsuki eyes scan the room for Izuku seeing those clunky red sneakers exiting through the dorm doors.
"Its because he would" Katsuki replies shoving his eggnog into Kirishima's hand.
Katsuki weaves his way through the crowd, grabbing his jacketand a scarf.
He opens the front door to find Izuku sitting on banister watching the snow fall.
Katsuki drops his jacket on to Izuku shoulders before wrapping his scarf around his neck.
"Kacchan" Izuku says breathy looking at him "what are you doing youll get sick"
"Oh fuck off. Youll get sick and youll make your fucked up bones act up sitting in the cold like this"
Izuku laughs but it lacks actuak happiness "I didnt know Kacchan worried so much about me"
Katsuki nudges him "course i do. Someone has too"
Izuku has a ghost of smile on his face.
They sit in silence before Katsuki speaks
"How many years?" He pauses "since auntie?"
Izuku huffs like he has to actually think about it
"Itll be five years christmas day"
Katsuki hums.
Snow falls, laughter of their friends filled the quiet air around them, the mood should be happy, jolly.
Tis the season.
Its anything but that.
"Why you let them drag you down here huh?" Katsuki ask
"Ochako and Shoto wouldnt take no for answer" izuku says "I didnt wanna be a grinch and say i hate christmas"
"You hate all the holidays"
Izuku scratches his cheek "Yeah well nothing good comes from them for me. Why would i love them?"
"What if i told you i could change that?"
Izuku laughs and looks at Katsuki "how could you do that?"
"Like this"
Katsuki presses his lips to Izukus. Nothing crazy just their lips pressed together but it was enough for Izuku to get the message. Turning his head to the side, Izuku deepens the kiss.
When they pull away their faces are red and it isnt from the cold.
"Not how i planned to confess." Katsuki breathes and Izuku laughs "How did you plan too?"
Katsuki rubs the back of his neck "i was going to go visit aunties grave with you"
"Kacchan you do that every year"
"Yeah well i wanted to tell auntie im gonna take care of you a-and she doesnt need to worry"
Izuku smiles softly watching as Katsuki's ears turn pink
"Then ask her if itd be okay i date you. I know she cant answer but i just- still wanted to ask"
Izuku places his hand on Katsuki cheek making the blonde look at him. "Thats really sweet Kacchan"
"I had whole date plan too" Katsuki says "i wanted to make christmas feel special for you again"
"It might take forever" Izuku whispers leaning closer "But its a start"
"Ive got my whole life too"
They kiss again, ignoring the way their friend whoop n cheer in the background.
So yes Izuku hates the holidays but maybe, just maybe they arent all so bad.
End 🧡💚

Tumblr media
I read something recently where someone was describing the common neurodivergent relationship to rules. And to be clear, I’m pretty sure this was like, a screenshot of a tumblr post and not from a peer-reviewed psychology journal or anything like that. But anyway, they talked about how ND folk basically have two modes when it comes to rules. If a rule doesn’t make sense and seems arbitrary, like it has no function except to just be a rule, we’ll blow it the fuck off. Hard pass. Not interested. At least in our heads anyway. I’m sure there’s plenty of ND people who’s fear of getting in trouble is stronger than they’re loathing of arbitrary rules, but mentally it’s a big middle finger.
On the other hand, if a rule makes sense to us and we can justify it, we will absolutely follow it, and other people not following a perfectly reasonable and necessary rule (as we perceive it), will throw us into a rage — again, at least mentally. There will be an internal hissy fit, if not an external one.
This very much resonated me, and it’s never more apparent than when traveling. People lose their ever-loving minds in transit, and it drives me up the wall. If you listen, you are constantly provided exact instructions on what you should do and where you should go, and people either don’t listen or just decide those rules don’t apply to them. It’s the little things, like the woman today who walked halfway up the walk side of the escalator and then just… stopped, causing everyone behind her to have to come to a sudden halt. Guess she was looking for the most comfortable step? Or there’s the people when the plane is landing that the flight attendants have to go tell to put their seat backs and tray tables up after it’s been said over the loudspeaker several times. The guy sitting adjacent to me not only had to be told that, but then as we were descending and even the flight attendants had to take their seats, he decided to get up and take his kid to the bathroom. We are about to slam into the ground at a bajillion miles per hour, sir. What are you, some kind of maniac?
It’s also worth noting that this man was traveling with his wife and four children, and when he realized we were able to exit out the back of the plane, he booked it out the door with his oldest teen son and onto the shuttle, where he placed his luggage in the middle of the aisle, sat down in the one available seat, and spread his newspaper out in front of him. Not gonna lie, I kicked the luggage out of the way so I could get by. As the shuttle doors closed, his son pointed toward the plane and said something in Icelandic — clearly, uh, dad, you fuck, you left the entire rest of the family on the airplane. Why are people like this?
When it comes to travel, there are a whole bunch of spoken and unspoken rules we are meant to abide by both to make things go smoothly and because the actual process of traveling fucking sucks and we want it to be the least painful it can be for everyone. But a large chunk of folks can only conceive of it being better for themselves, so they cut in lines, they take their time putting their bags in overhead bins while everyone queues for their seats behind them, they ignore instructions from flight staff, they play their videos without headphones, they cough into their hands or into the air. The lady next to me on the flight I just got off of kept shoving her elbows into my side and resting her newspaper on my face (apparently Brits and Europeans are still very much into newspapers??), then turning her head to cough on my tray table so she wouldn’t cough on her friend.
My entire body protests. Some rules aren’t arbitrary. WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY.

Memories #2 | Parker
Note: Laura is Parkers deadname, they didn't start going by Parker until about 16. So though their family in this will call them Laura and use she/her, the rest of the text will call them Parker and use they/them.
"MOM!!! MOM!! LOOK WHAT THE HELL LAURA HAD UNDER HER BED!!!" Kevin practically screeched as he bounded down the stairs to skidded into the living room, little Parker chasing after him to no avail.
Helen startled as he rounded the corner, almost choking on her drink. Placing the glass down, she shot Kevin a glare, "Kevin Daniel Moore, what have I told you about running around like that?? Especially up and down the stairs, you're going to break your neck!" her eyebrows knit together as she noticed the box her son held, "What is that? And why were you looking in your sisters things?" she glanced at Parker, who was now peeking around the corner, not daring to speak or enter.
"She took my fucking pocket knife! I was getting it back but LOOK!!" he shoved the box onto the coffee table and received another glare from his mother. He may be a teen now, but there was absolutely no room for that kind of language in her house. "Stop cursing, you should have just told your father to get it back from her." she scanned the box on the table before reaching for it.
It was just an old box from a few Christmases ago, partially damaged with the lid only haphazardly staying on. Parker was only eight, what could they possibly be hiding? Rocks? Broken toys? Kevin was likely overrreacting, looking for a reason to get them in trouble.
She placed again at Kevin, then at the little blonde still peeking around the corner, amber eyes watching her every movement. As she moved the box she was surprised by the sound of jars clinking inside, where had Parker gotten jars? And why would they be in a box? Under their bed no less? Something akin to anxiety bloomed in Helens stomach as she removed the lid, immediately dropping it and shouting in shock when she saw the contents.
Death. Death was in the box would be how she later described it to her husband. Small animal bones, teeth, tails, and claws were loose in the box. And several jars full of what looked like hand sanitizer sat lined on one side, containing what would later be found to be eyes, hearts, heads, and intestines.
"OH MY WORD. I- W-" she sputtered, caught between anger and horror, "LAURA! GET OVER HERE IMMEDIATELY!" Helen stood, tossing the lid back on the box and turning towards the door where her eight year old was hesitantly creeping in to stand before her.
The yelling lasted what felt like forever, but must have been only twenty minutes before Parker was sent up to their room to stay there until dad got home, and where they would stay without dinner until school the next day.
Angry at getting their things taken, and even angrier at the smug look Kevin had worn while they were getting chewed out, Parker threw themselves on the bed and pouted. It was just some bones and stuff, it wasn't that bad, at least it wasn't the bodies right? They had even looked up how to preserve the soft stuff without it rotting and smelling! Kevin was 15, surely he'd seen dead stuff before, like roadkill or what the hawks leave out in the woods, what was the problem with just the pieces?
They'd have to get back at him, he had been poking around and messing with their stuff! His stupid knife was on the dresser, but he kept looking through the whole room even after he got it! But they knew well enough that they had to play the long game, they couldn't get back at him while still in hot water, they would have to wait. And wait they did.
Nobody saw it coming, and nobody suspected Parker, when Kevin woke up three weeks later to wolf spiders and centipedes crawling in his bed.
