So at the end of the first chapter of MKX, Johnny uses his green glow to save Sonya from Shinnok

Then, 20 years later, he tells the kombat kids about it and says this

"I've never been able to re-summon that green halo. Raiden thinks it was triggered when I saw a loved one about to die."

HOWEVER, we DO see ONE instance of Johnny using his green glow BEFORE he saves Sonya

At the beginning of the first chapter, Johnny, Kenshi, and Sonya are on a helicopter when they get attacked by Scorpion

Kenshi immediately pushes Johnny out of the way to protect him

Then gets hit by a blast of fire from Scorpion

And then Johnny uses his green glow to kick Scorpion away from Kenshi

the kon & clark fic is fun bc its like, obviously primarily about kon and clark, but also core four are present. and it's kon pov and he's quite out of it for a hot minute because yknow the horrors, but there's some important background information that he'll kinda gloss over as narrator but is SO vital to me, personally. which is that while he's conked out in the hospital under a sunlamp, tim, cassie, and bart agree that obviously clark gets to sit at his side and hold one hand. but there's only one other hand for the three of them. that's a problem.

solution: one person can very carefully snuggle up on kon's side. one person can hold his hand. the third person is kinda out of luck and can, like, hold his feet or something they guess :/. next problem: well who gets what? next solution: they organize a rock paper scissors round-robin tournament. further problem that's only really a problem for cassie and tim: bart absolutely is going to cheat at this. solution? yeah there isnt one. bart is getting two victories and therefore securing himself the cuddle spot. cassie manages to defeat tim, which puts her in second place at one victory and one loss, so she gets to hold kon's other hand. tim, well... sorry bud. go curl up at the foot of the bed like a dog. that's what you get for losing. maybe git gud next time timothy.

Caretaker raced to the room that they knew Whumper had stashed Whumpee in. Raced to get there to rescue Whumpee, to liberate them from the prison Whumper kept them in.

Caretaker breathed a sigh of relief when they saw Whumpee was chained to the wall, but seemingly unharmed. "Thank God, Whumpee. You're ok."

Whumpee gave a weak smile. "You found me."

Caretaker hurried over, lock picks in hand to break Whumpee free from the chains. "Course I did. I'll always find you, Whumpee. Are you ok?"

Whumpee nodded. "Now that you're here."

"I was so worried about Whumper would do to you in the time that it took me to get here."

"I'm ok, Caretaker. You found me. I'm ok."

Caretaker made quick work of breaking Whumpee out of the locks. "Let's get you out of here and get you home. Can you stand?"

Whumpee nodded, slowly rising. "How do we get out of here?"

Caretaker took Whumpee's hand in theirs and began to run. "Follow me."

Caretaker ran through the maze of Whumper's compound. They had Whumpee. Whumpee was safe. Everything was going to be ok. They just had to get out of here. The words were a mantra that filled Caretaker's head.

"Almost there, Whumpee," Caretaker murmured over their shoulder as the door to the outside came into view.

"Good," Whumpee replied breathlessly.

Whumpee stumbled, dropping Caretaker's hand. Caretaker whirled round as Whumpee's knees buckled. "Whumpee?" Caretaker's heart raced. They grabbed Whumpee by the lapels of their jacket to keep Whumpee upright.

"I.....I....I don't ffffffeellllll so....so....goooood," Whumpee muttered as they collapsed in Caretaker's arms, going completely limp as they lost consciousness.

"Whumpee?" Caretaker shrieked as they tried to shake Whumpee awake. "Whumpee! Open your eyes! Say something! Whumpee!"

me: so what if right after Anya's powers are revealed Twilight asks her why she tricked him into adopting her, if she was put into it by someone else in order to expose him, and Anya tries to tell him she wanted to help and he asks why would you want to help me and she's like "because you want a peaceful world where children don't cry" and he nearly has a flashback triggered by that and she runs and hugs his legs saying she wants to help and be good and Twilight just. Pushes her away. Gently and without physically hurting her but emotionally it's a massacre. And he sees her devastated face because of his rejection and realizes he has now caused her the pain he never wanted to see on another child's face, and he thanks whatever lucky stars he doesn't deserve that Yor is there because he cannot process anything else and just leaves out the door, leaving Anya to bawl in Yor's arms :)

The more I work on my long fic the more work I’m realizing it needs…

Maybe I should just take it down for now and repost it when it’s actually ready

#don't mind me having a moment #the main issue I’m realizing is Hualian #XL is a pov character but there’s no real stake for him in this adventure #so there’s no real conflict or growth for him to be had #but on the other side some of the planned scenes with sqx just won’t work if he’s the pov character #because he’s unconscious for them #and there’s no other character who can really fit the role XL plays #because he’s the one sqx trusts the most #things to think about #maybe I should shift gears to my 3T fic instead because the goals for all 3 are defined there #it’s not something I think about as much when writing oneshots #but character drive and motivation is important #the pov character needs to have a reason for acting #that goes a little further than ‘he’s my friend and I’m concerned’ #the fic has some good themes with sqx & the peis #I need to find a parallel for hualian that xl can work on #another theme is disappointment (and that it’s ok) so….. #(hualian being one of those couples who support each other 200% makes them kinda boring to write in this sense) #(I think I might need to embrace the ooc a little >.>
