I finally managed to fix the few things i wanted to fix in this one-shot so here it is
i hadn't written anything complete in so fucking long, when i wrote this, so let's just say that it was to shake the rust off
this focuses mostly on Astride's feelings, I guess. It's kind of a slow burn but also goes 0 to 60 pretty quick, according to my proof reader (i don't think it's that 0 to 60 tbh... maybe 0 to 35 ? i'm not sure he is aware of what kind of things i can write, actually lol)
and the full project im working on is definitely gothic, though i'm not sure how much of that shows in this bit here (aside from having been inspired by an evanescence song loloops ?)
and dont expect smut cause there's none lol
and warning for mention of a dead child, i suppose (i dont go into details as to what happened to them in this)
but it's here ! (about 6 500 words or 9ish pages long)

The Gilded Age, 02x05 Close Enough to Touch, my thoughts...
Omg I'm so happy for Aunt Ada! It was brilliant she didn't allow her fears to stop her marring the Reverend Forte. Their so sweet together. I understand that Aunt Agnes had to marry that man she did and as result had a horrible marriage but I'm glad the Reverend Forte pointed out to her that it was for her own selfish reasons she didn't want Ada to marry him and not because she was trying to protect Ada. I'm also glad Aunt Agnes got her head out of her butt and went to the wedding! Because no matter what she said under the grumpy exterior I want to believe she actually happy for her little sister. Now I want them to find a man for Aunt Agnes, wouldn't that be amazing to see!
Ok I completely annoyed by the whole Peggy and her boss thing. How played out, over done, so predictable and well just lazy is that?! Why can't they make her character smarter than that. Be all like oh hell no fool, you're married. Yes we had a scary fucking moment back there but no we don't need to be kissing or anything else. Because it makes Peggy's character come off as less than she is, less intelligent, less brilliant. It does such a deserves to her character!
But Bertha's staff was so not on our watch mf! I freakin love them. Especially Church making sure the Duke didn't end up with a lap full of hot soup. And Watson for catching on to what was going on in the first place! Bertha needs to give them and Mrs. Bruce a rise!
Oh I loved, loved watching Turner's plan at revenge go up in smoke. Omg Mrs. Fish comments perfectly just hitting Turner's last nerve lmfao!! God their making me truly hate her.
Bertha's dinner party gown was so beautiful. I do like seeing all the lighter colors this season and flower prints. I thought Bertha was rather cute when she kept checking to make sure everything for the dinner was perfect and all her staff kept reassuring her. I would like to see more moments like that where she's well cute. When Gladys tried to walk further down the talk, Bertha all come back here you lol. I so knew one of the main reason Bertha wanted to meet the Duke was because of Gladys. If she gets her way Gladys is going become a Duchess. It was great Bertha and George are not longer fighting omg. I didn't realize how heavy that made the show until the episode. Even with the events with Peggy unfortunately the episode still feel lighter.
Oscar and Maude Beaton are very sweet together but I don't want to see Maude get hurt. If Oscar actually loves her, perhaps like one loves a very dear friend or a best friend than maybe it's alright but if not. He definitely needs to stop acting like any kind of goldigger though! I just really want him to have honest feelings for Maude is all.
Marian if she doesn't want to be with Dashiell Montgomery ok. But her doing cringie face everytime he said something in that direction is getting old and annoying. Could she please grow the same spine for herself she seems to have for everyone else.
It's so awesome they put in about Emily Warren Roebling the first female engineer. That whole thing Larry finds out is completely ture part of history. I really appreciate the show added. It's important that our women's history finally be included.

Riverdale’s gay gene
Okay so, the riverdale gay gene theory goes something like this: just like the serial killer gene, sexuality is inherited in the riverdale universe, mainly from parents to children, but in some cases (like cheryl and toni) from the most prominent ancestor featured in the show so far (season 6). How does it work? idk, it’s riverdale but my theory is that 1bi/gay parent = 1bi child, and 2bi parents = 1gay or 1bi children.
The Cooper-Smith family: in season 6 Betty is confirmed bisexual and that implies that one of her prominent ancestors is gay, which could point to Bitsy Smith from 06x05. HOWEVER the storyline of Abigail-Poppy-Cheryl being immortal is not within the continuity of season 6, and Bitsy and Betty are not related (also confirmed by Madelaine Petsch). Therefore Betty gets her bisexuality from either her father or her mother, but most likely her mother Alice since she is also the one who gave the serial killer gene to her and Charles, who has the gay gene too.
The Smith-Jones family: Charles gets either his gay gene from Alice or FP, but (see above) most likely is from Alice or both of them if we go by the theory that 2bi parents are needed to produce 1gay child.
The Jones family: by the 2bi=1gay formula theory, FP is bi (unconfirmed), which makes Jughead bi. Nevertheless, he would remain bi even if we don’t go with the gay formula and FP is not bi, since Gladys aka jugmom is most likely bi because if riverdale writers love something it is metatextuality and references to other media, and what is gina gershon (jugmom) known for? Bound (1996), where she plays a lesbian icon. By metatextuality rules Jugmom is, then, bisexual (also have you seen her? leather jacket and string choker? she is definitely fucking women).
The Andrews family: Mary is a bisexual icon that got straight and gay divorced, that makes Archie bisexual (+all the times he has kissed men??? and all that stuff that he has said that is straight out of the 2003 atlanta-based play archie's weird fantasy?? my boy is bisexual).
The Topaz-Fogarty family: now this confirmed the gay gene theory, since both Toni and Fangs are bisexuals who have a child, baby Anthony, who is confirmed queer (undisclosed whether he is gay or bisexual). And going back in time, Tony’s only on-screen relevant relative is Thomasina, who is also confirmed bisexual (or perhaps lesbian, it is never stated), creating a direct line of the gay gene inheritance from Thomasina to Baby Anthony.
The Blossom family: it’s not confirmed that queen of serving cunt and evil Penelope is queer, although it was implied, BUT it could also be Abigail, Cheryl’s most direct ancestor (aside from Nana Blossom), the one who gave her the witch gene and the lesbian gene.
The Keller family: is Tom bi? perhaps anything is possible in Riverdale, but most likely the evidence points to either his unnamed mom who never even lives with them (like Mary did with Archie’s dad, before she got a divorce to marry a woman). But it’s also possible that gay kevin is just spontaneously gay, which would explain the fact that his whole personality is being gay.
The Mason family: Marcus (Moose’s dad) is most likely gay, but got therapy conversion at the sister’s of quiet mercy, but he could be bisexual and only they only scared away the gay part, and passed on the gene to Moose, who is bisexual.
In conclusion, only in riverdale you get the serial killer gene and the gay gene.

FE OC WEEK DAY 1: Introduction
I’m so excited to participate in @fe-oc-week! Please note that English isn’t my first language.
Allow me to introduce my FE3H OC, Maeve!
❧Name: Maeve Fresnay
❧Age : 21 years old in 1185
❧Affiliation: Holy Kingdom of Faerghus
❧In short: A magician serving lady Gladys of house Eilyn, a vassal of house Fraldarius. Maeve joins Dimitri’s army after the time skip as a part of the reinforcements brought by Rodrigue. Sweet, elegant and sensitive, she isn’t a soldier by vocation but is willing to protect her friends and bring an end to the war. A skilled singer and musician, Maeve brings a lot of color and joy to her lady’s entourage. She may not look like much, but possesses a lot of inner strength and bravery. She has been separated from her older sister and his looking for her. She also gets along very well with Dedue and later falls in love with him.
❧Click here to read her story! (It's in French, but it should still work with the help of a translation software ;) ).
❧Apparence: She's 1m70 tall, with pale skin and long wavy black hair that she ties up in a bun (with hairpins that can be used as weapons) or keeps unbound when she can. Her eyes are dark brown, her face oval and her nose slightly upturned. Her smile gives her dimples. Her clothes hide her battle scars.
She usually wears a knee-length tunic, pants and boots with her magic staff tucked in her belt. She always has a pouch embroidered with a robin that her friend Vigdis made for her. While fighting, she wears a gambeson and armor pieces to protect her limbs, allowing her freedom of movement and substantial protection. As a civilian, she always wears elegant dresses, her favorite colors being red and blue.
Maeve almost always wears make-up, especially red lipstick (this detail was inspired by a real historical female fighter: Kumander Liwayway!). She does so because she wants to keep some beauty and color in her life. This coping mechanism allows her to stay in control of her appearance and hide the damages caused by the war. In battle, she also wears dark eyeshadow to give herself a more ferocious appearance and bolster her confidence.
❧Theme song : Free, Florence and the Machine + Passacaglia della vita, Stefano Landi
❧Her pinterest.
❧Personality: Maeve has a luminous personality. Smiling is her way to stand against adversity and she's at ease in most social situations. She likes having fun and has a passion for music. She often sings or plays her lute, finding pleasure in playing for others and entertaining them. Open-minded and curious, she enjoys learning new songs and meeting new people.
Due to her sensitivity, she’s extremely receptive to other people's emotions, sometimes to the point that she absorbs them like a sponge. Her mind works very fast and she’s plagued by anxious thoughts, that can even become morbid and tries to hide them with more or less success. To deal with this, she needs to find an occupation or talk to someone as she hates being lonely. She can cry after difficult events as she releases all her pent-up emotions.
Her receptivity allows her to assess complex situations. Maeve is indeed lucid, clever and observant. She’s for instance able to analyze the information regarding the Tragedy of Duscur and suspects Lambert’s opponents of being the true culprits. She shows a lot of emotional maturity for her age and knows how the world works.
One of Maeve’s major traits is her bravery. Even though she's now used to fighting, she was scared at first and laments the use of violence. Yet, she won't give up and will stand alongside her friends. This is another proof of her generosity. Despite all the horrors, and even if she sometimes feels like it’s too much, she will never give up. In combat, she’s efficient and focused, capable of much courage.
She wants to be seen by all as a reliable ally and secretly has self-esteem issues. Being the youngest member of her friend’s group, she was at first the "little sister" and the one with the least battle experience. She doesn’t want to be seen as such and feels bad when others have to reassure and comfort her.
She likes flowers, pretty clothes, make-up and accessories. She tends to accumulate objects and is sometimes tempted by some impulse purchases. The circumstances of the war have, however, taught her to deal with these these.
Read her introductory chapter!
❧Skills:
Strengths: Reason, faith
Weaknesses: Heavy armor, bow
Maeve possesses great offensive power. She favors fire and thunder spells such as Thoron, though she also uses Sagittae. During the story, she learns to master Ragnarok.
Her faith list is more limited, with practical spells such as Ward. She’s notably able to cast Seraphim, making valuable contributions against demonic beasts or the Titanuses.
Maeve is, to her regret, a mediocre healer. She can only treat superficial wounds and only with great effort.
Her older sister taught her unarmed self-defense and the use of a stiletto. She’s able to pull out her blade very quickly and take advantage of her foe’s surprise.
Stay tuned for her relationships and backstory!

Embracing My Inner Marian Brook
SPOILER ALERT!!!
First of all, Praise Jesus, we’re getting a Season 3 for “The Gilded Age!”
Tumblr media
::WARNING:: ::THIS IS A LONG RAMBLING POST::
::sighs::
I can’t believe Season 2 of “The Gilded Age” is over. Why did we get nine episodes in Season 1, but only eight in Season 2?!?!?! Not that another episode would have been enough for me. The costumes, the snobbery, the grandeur, the upstairs/downstairs relations – I love it all. It may even surpass my love for “Downton Abbey.” I think it’s because I’m American and this is based in America, and we just don’t have the period dramas that Britain has. We had “Mercy Street” for only two seasons – I’m still not over the cancelation of that show. Anyway, I can easily get lost in the show’s world, even though my ancestors of that era were farmers, laborers, and factory workers in the Midwest. There’s a derogatory comment made in Season 1, that in the past, Bertha Russell dug her own potatoes before she married George and they made their fortune. My people would be closer to that than anyone else on the show.
Tumblr media
Last season, I was really drawn to Peggy Scott’s character. I still adore her, but during my rewatch of season one and watching this season, I’ve realized something. My personality is closer to Marian Brook’s. According to a Myer-Brigg’s personality test, I’m an INFJ-T and though I’ve searched around on line, I found only one site that claimed Marian was an INFP. We’re not twins, but I really feel I’m closer to her in personality than I am with any other character on the show. Except maybe Gladys Russell. I might be similar to Gladys…Poor girl.
Tumblr media
We’re introduced to Marian Brook in Season 1 when her father dies and she learns she’s left with nothing. Her world is turned upside down. She receives a letter from her Aunt Ada in New York; it contains a train ticket and encouragement to come live with her and her older sister, Agnes van Rhijn. Marian accepts, arrives in the city with Peggy Scott who helps her on the journey, and she is thrust into New York society. Since Agnes married into an Old Money family, Marian is considered part of that family by connection. She makes friends with the Russell siblings across the street, who are New Money! She is also friendly with Mrs. Chamberlain, who broke the rules and is ostracized. ::gasps:: As she navigates society, an attorney friend from her hometown in Pennsylvania, Tom Raikes (who lives up to his surname) shows up and much to Agnes’ disapproval, he pursues Marian. She is persuaded to believe she is in love, and maybe in a sense she was. Maybe it was a first love kind of thing. The audience, and Aunt Agnes especially, knows something isn’t quite right. Tom proposes, Marian accepts, and an elopement is planned and attempted…Well, Marian follows through with the plan, Tom fails to show up and later dares to show his face at Mrs. Russell’s ball. ::boo, hiss, boo:: Marian is brokenhearted, but she’s young and resourceful, she will heal.
Tumblr media
Season 2 opens and as the Opera War is being waged, we discover that Tom Raikes is newly married and though Marian is a little affected, she is moving on. She has taken a position teaching water colors painting at a school. ::gasps:: Aunt Agnes is horrified. No one from an Old Money family works. It’s not done, it’s not genteel. While Marian loves her life in New York and the society she belongs to, she finds purpose in teaching her class. It eventually involves into teaching other pupils how to read and write. Just when she finds her place in the world, a cousin of hers (or is it a nephew) by marriage, Dashiell Montgomery arrives on the scene. Newly widowed and the father of a daughter, he soon sets his sights on Marian as a prospective second wife. Marian appreciates his company and likes him and his daughter (despite them insulting her by saying “she’s not a real teacher” and making an off-handed comment that the poor people can wait to learn to read, her attendance at this fancy gathering is necessary). Dashiell is…not a bad man, and in Aunt Agnes’ eyes, he’s a good catch. I have a hard time getting past the Tsar Nicholas II beard that he sports (I swear, whenever he was on the scene, all I could think of was Tsar Nicholas II). But when he puts Marian on the spot by proposing to her in public, to be kind and show compassion to his daughter who desires the match, she accepts…
Tumblr media
When the van Rhijn’s encounter financial troubles, I feared Marian would be pressured to continue with the engagement. Thankfully, she waited for a private moment to part ways with him. Aunt Agnes reminds Marian she must be careful – her reputation has taken two hits, society won’t accept a third. But she is free. Free to teach, to help with social causes, to perhaps find love with the Russell boy.
The internet seems divided about Marian’s personality type. One site claims she is a INFP and that’s close to what I am. In my recent binges of the show, I have seen parallels between our personalities. She seems more traditional at first, relying first upon her father and then Aunt Agnes for support. She and Peggy Scott befriend and support one another, yet it is not without some troubles. Though Marian believes all people are created equal and treats them as such, she originally thinks Peggy is poor and calls on her at the Scott family home bringing a “charity bag.” Thankfully their falling out only lasts an episode or two. We are horrified when she misses the racism Peggy faces at a shop she likes to buy from. A well-meaning person, she misjudges Tom Raikes. The audience can see he’s more in love with New York society than he is Marian herself. This nearly leads her into scandal. When Dashiell obviously begins to pursue her, rather than bluntly dissuade him, she permits his attentions because he does some kind things and he’s closely connected to her aunts. For me, that one hits close to home. Marian is nice, but when compared with the more dynamic Bertha Russell or force of nature Agnes van Rhijn, she doesn’t stand out.
Tumblr media
A Collider article criticizes her for being the “least interesting character.” I initially overlooked her too. Maybe it was my acceptance of that I’m closer to Fanny Price of “Mansfield Park” than say Elizabeth Bennet of “Pride and Prejudice,” encouraged me to give Marian Brook of “The Gilded Age” a second look. Marian is more introverted; she often has her nose in complicated books like Henry James’ “The Portrait of a Lady” and she doesn’t make waves until she really has to. She enjoys fashion and pretty things, wishing for a fancy fan, that Bertha later gifts her. When pressed, she will stand her ground and fight for herself and others. The criticisms she’s received from articles and online comments, reminds me of the criticisms I received over the years. That I was too shy, not outgoing enough, that I rarely talked, that I could be a Miss Priss. I don’t always have the best judgment about people and I can be swayed into doing what others wish. I prefer to handle things privately.
You know what, there’s nothing wrong with being shy, introverted, reserved, traditional, etc, etc. Shy girls deserve a place in the narrative too. Marian Brook is this “least interesting” girl’s favorite character. I can’t wait to see what Season 3 has in store for her. ::sighs:: 2024 is going to be a long year.

Remember my TAG Sims 4 save that I’m building? Well it’s well time for an update on where I’m at! I’m having great fun populating the worlds with characters and various people’s OCs* and thought I’d show off how they’re going! I’m focusing on CAS (Create A Sim) rather than building in this save and trying to create a full world of sims! Also note that I’m planning on the gameplay beginning with a teenage Jeff, so no main characters for now. I play with aging off and age them all manually so the other characters will just stay the same age until I’m ready to interact with them.
I’ve finished three worlds; Willow Creek, Oasis Springs, and Sulani. Working on Newcrest and Henford-on-Bagley next! Today I'll show off the characters made in Willow Creek :)
*I’m only showing the TAG characters and the OCs I have made for them today, not OCs made by other people... mostly because I'm not done!! Also if you're interested in my making your Thuderbirds OCs, let me know! I have a lot of households to fill lol and they'll just hang out in the background of the game :D
Tumblr media
Notable changes: I moved the park to the Oakenstead lot, added a second park (in Foundry Cove) and a skate park. I changed the museum into a botanical library and placed a community garden next to it. There is now an early childhood education centre and a hospital that can be visited, and I placed a gym and a museum. I did not make any of the builds, they’re all found on the gallery and then tweaked.
There are twelve households in Willow Creek, including an apartment with four families. The only townies I care about are the Goths so they’ll end up being the only non TAG characters. I found a renovated Goth Mansion and a Goth family revamped to look closer to their Sims 2 counterparts on the gallery and stuck them in there :)
Sims 4 lore down, let me show off the sims!!
Sally, Grant and Jeff Tracy
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this save, Jeff has two brothers and a sister, based off of @amistrio's hc :D
Kyrano, Kayo and Tin-Tin
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I decided I wanted to add in Tin-Tin and I have vague memories of reading a fic where they were sisters, so I went ahead and did it :D
Brains, Brains and Fermat Hackenbacker
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love Brains ahaha so I put him in twice :D why not after all!
The Apartment Building has four families: Ned Tedford, Tycho Reeves (and his brother David...lol), Wayne Rigby (and his daughter Eleanor... double lol, I think it was @katblu42 who suggested that name :D), and Kat Cavanaugh (who I gave a sister who lives in Oasis Springs, but I've included said sister for completeness)
Ned Tedford
Tumblr media
I gave him lots of freckles mostly because I think they look sweet ahaha... I'm tempted to make Gladys a Plant Sim, but for now he's just going to enjoy gardening :D
Tycho and David Reeves
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Come on... I had to XD David's a doctor whose aspiration in life is to solve the Strangerville mystery ahaha
Wayne and Eleanor Rigby
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes the glasses are on purpose :D I love the idea of Rigby being a single dad and I also aged him up a little simply because he's clearly been with the GDF for a while and it made sense to me.
Kat and Sara Cavanaugh
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sara is Kat's older sister but they don't get on so they live in different worlds.
And finally, our last couple of houses are filled by...
Cass McCready, Aiden Hawkins and Theo McCready-Hawkins
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cass is obviously our favourite firefighter, and so I decided to create Aiden to be her fiance and Theo to be their kid. I always imagined Cass having two boys and to be a single mum when she met iR for the first time, so I did give Aiden a couple of less desirable traits lol... I'd like to play out their story at some point so they only have Theo to start :D
Reece and Dobbs (aka our favourite space pirates/scrappers!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love these guys so much, they crack me up :D They're space married, don't question me on this, and they live in a tiny home with some chickens xD I might see if I can replace their current home with one that's modelled after a spaceship bc that would be fun!
Robert and Aidan Williams
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aidan is one of my favourite kid characters in the show and I love him! So cool headed even when crisis is happening and his dad is hurt :( I thought for a long time about whether I'd add in more family but then I realised the house was only two bedrooms and then I invented a story where his mum had recently passed away and him and Gordon could have some bittersweet bonding (bc Gordon stays in touch and remembers everyone obviously!!) so I decided to leave them as they were and also the smaller the household the less likely the game is to crash lol
WillowCreek also is resident to three OC families, but they are not mine so I don't want to post about them without permission :)
Anyway I hope you enjoyed the update on this!!! Someday I'll have real gameplay to share lol, but I'm having so much fun building the world up!

Milk & Honey - Ch. 18
Austin!Elvis x Black!OC

Masterlist
Previous | Next
Summary: Honey and Pearl finally have a chat
Warning: Swearing(?), racial issues, pregnancy,
Note: Okay, I know how many people HATE when babies are added into fanfics, but I am trying my ABSOLUTE BEST to make this actually enjoyable and kind of put a twist on how I typically see children being introduced in writing, so please trust the process.
Also, I hope this chapter isn’t too confusing. It switches between present day and flashbacks
Song: Mary Don’t You Weep - Inez Andrews

Every day that passed only became harder. I went through all of Ma’s belongings, staring at them for hours while I reminisced on the past. Most days I was living in my memories just to get myself by.
“Well, ain’t she just precious, Loretta.” Gladys says admiring the young little girl in her new Sunday dress.
Loretta huffs adjusting in her spot to find a more comfortable position against the hard, wilted wood of the porch. “Been drivin me crazy these past few days, won’t let me get through her hair or nothin.”
“Hey, new girl! Nice dress.” A boy pesters from behind the fence.
The girl turns, wide eyed until crossing her arms upon seeing the owner of the voice.
Gladys smiles at the sight. “Look at that, they’re tryna talk to you, Honey. Why don’t you go along and play with ‘em. And boys! Make sure you include Honey this time!”
“We don’t wanna play with a girl!” Thomas whines.
Loretta shoos away his complaining, kicking out her bare feet across the sand. “She’s the only girl you ever gone see if you keep that up. Just play one game with her, please.”
The three boys groan their way to the backyard, where a ball is left on the ground from their last session. Elvis begins kicking the ball around with Thomas, while Michael walks up to Honey. “Just stay over here while we play. Don’t get in the way.” He commands.
She crosses her arms. “What makes you think I wanna play with you anyway, ugly boy.”
Thomas and Elvis pause their game to hold in their laughter. “Psh, you couldn’t play even if you tried.” Michael sneers.
Honey smiles. “Scared you’ll get whooped by a girl?”
“OOO!” The two boys shout, laughing at Micheal’s upset and embarrassed face. “I want her on my team!” Thomas raises his hand.
Michael groans. “Come on, foo’s. She can’t play with us.”
Elvis pats the shoulder of his friend. “Nah, she got you good. She can play.”
Pearl and I haven’t talked since that day. Originally I thought about moving away and never speaking to her again. I wanted so badly to just disappear from the world, I already had so much to figure out about the future, I couldn’t stand her attitude on top of it. But a few days after the funeral, I made dinner for the two of us. We sat at the table in silence. I had so much pain in me, but looking at her that night struck something.
Her eyes were dull, hair unbrushed, sadly picking at her food. She looked worse than I had ever seen her. But what hurt the most was that I remembered she was barely 18. She’s just a kid that lost her daddy too. I was the only family member she had left, and same for me. I’m not much older than her, but enough that it felt like my responsibility to step up as the big sister and take care of her. Take care of her and…someone else in the future now too.
Honey and the boys sit outside under the hot sun, church bells ring in the near distance. She grazes her fingers through the grass, snapping up dandelions from the weeds and weaving the stems through her tangles of hair. She keeps a handful of dandelions in her hand to bury her face into every now and again to take in their sweet yet earthy aroma.
“Would’ya quit sniffin them things. You already know it don’t smell like nothin but grass and dirt.” Elvis teases her. She pouts, throwing one towards his face. He laughs at her attempt, catching it before it can hit his cheek. “Keep stickin your nose in them things and we’ll have to call you Bumble.”
Her eyebrows furrow. “Bumble?” She questions.
“Yeah, you know, like the bee. Those big fat ones that pollinate on them flowers. Hey! You’re even fluffy like one too!” He states excitedly, reaching out to rat her curls.
“Does it taste okay?” I ask Pearl.
Her head snaps up, shocked that I just spoke to her. She falters for a moment. “Yeah.”
I nod, swallowing down the lump in my throat. Oh god, what am I doing? I drop my fork onto my plate, resting my forehead in my hand. The loud clank startles her, causing her to stare in uncertainty.
“I’m pregnant.” I blurt out. I stare deep into the grain of the table with a dry, sarcastic hum of a laugh. I didn’t have much else to lose, who cares if she knows? She’s bound to find out eventually anyways. My lip quivers as I gather the strength to continue. “Elvis. He doesn’t know.” Finally I look up at her, tears rolling down my numb face.
“Michael, stop. She ain’t all that bad.”
“Nah, she’s always tryna do what we’re doin and be like us, but she ain’t.” He says, before storming off in a fit.
Honey stands behind one of her porch’s pillars, hiding her glistening eyes. Elvis sees this and immediately walks up to her. “Honey, don’t cry.” But him taking notice only made the tears come out faster. “It don’t matter what he say. I think you’re fine just the way you are.”
She sniffles. “But you’re always making fun of me too.”
He smiles. “Aww, you know I’m just teasin. We all do it all the time. We don’t mean nothin by it. ‘Side, I really like you. I wouldn’t hurt you like that, I’d much rather be your superhero.”
Honey rubs her red eyes, a weak smile tugging at her lips. “Like Captain Marvel?”
His eyes brighten. “Exactly like Captain Marvel.”
She giggles. “What would that make me?”
He thinks for a moment, stroking the nonexist hairs on his soft chin. “A princess.”
She raises her eyebrow. “A princess? That’s not fair, I wanna be someone strong too!”
“You ain’t gotta be strong when you got someone like me.” He teases, kissing the muscles on his scrawny arms.
She rolls her eyes. “Well, even if I’m a princess, I wanna help save the world too.” She demands, arms folded sternly.
He flashes her a generous smile, giving her a promise to hold deep within her heart. “You and me against the world.”
It was from that day forward that their entire view of each other had changed.
Much to my surprise Pearl has an actual sympathetic look on her face. She reaches across the table, grabbing my hand. “I’m sorry.” She says, already choking up. “For everything. My grandparents- Our grandparents used to tell this story about a colored woman that tried to seduce Daddy with her ‘dark magic’, wanted me to think colored folk were all sorts of evil. But you and your Mama are some of the kindest people I have ever met and I feel horrible bout the things I did. I thought acting like grandmaw would help her live on or somethin, but I wasn’t thinkin with my own head.”
She sniffles, rubbing her nose into her sleeve. “I never even liked Elvis, it was all just to make you feel how I did everytime Daddy paid more attention to you. Every time I talked to Elvis all he’d go on about was you. I ain’t never had nobody that talked about me like that or looked at me that way. He really loved you Honey. I thought what y’all were doin was real brave and I can only hope to be as strong as you one day. But I promise you I didn’t call the cops that day!”
Suddenly, she stands up, getting on her knees in front of me. “I’m gonna help you take care of the baby, okay? U-Unless you don’t want me to…?” She pulls her hands away, looking for signs of anger or resentment in my eyes.
I bite my lip, holding back a sob before I pull her into a hug.
She smiles. “I’m gonna help you through this, Honey. We both need each other more than ever right now.”
Pearl and I became incredibly close after that. Pathetic it took something so tragic to finally bring us together, but I was so grateful to have someone with me on this terrifying journey.
Small bike wheels track through the dirt path, coming up to the neighborhood of their owners. The boys catch a glimpse of her at the end of the block.
Honey sits on the porch between her mama’s legs, painfully getting her head yanked back each time her mother starts a new braid in her blonde hair.
The three boys smirk, hair still wet from swimming in the waterhole earlier that day. They quickly adjust their shirts, taking off a strap from their overalls and throwing it over their shoulder to give them a ‘cool’ and uncaring bad boy look. Then they fly by, pedaling fast and talking loud to ensure they caught Honey’s attention.
Elvis pops the wheel on his bike, lifting it in the air for half a second. He smiles, satisfied when he sees a small smirk appear on Honey’s face.
Eventually, I could no longer work and we had no choice but to sell the house and move into one of the poorer neighborhoods on the East side of Memphis. When I said I missed those shack houses in Mississippi, I didn’t know how much I actually meant it until moving here.
Most stores in the area were adorned with broken or boarded up windows and fallen signs. Streets were littered with garbage, rusted cars, and dead trees. And our house was complete with wilted wooden panels, peeling wallpaper, and a smell I could never put my finger on. It was no place to raise a child, but it’d have to do. It’s all we had.
Unfortunately walking and bus taking was something we still had to do since Dad’s car was in the accident. Obviously, I didn’t want Pearl walking alone, so I’d have to make grocery trips with her, baby bump and all.
‘You’re a strong woman, Honey. You’ll get through this.’ Mama’s words haunted me every single day, and every hour that passed it became even harder to believe.
It was hard, for the both of us, but it brought us closer until I finally felt like I had a real sister by my side.
I sit on the couch, rubbing at my sore and stretched belly.
“You got a name yet?” Pearl asks from the floor in front of me.
“Charles.” I say sadly.
She smiles weakly. “And a girl?”
I shrug, with a chuckle. “I don’t know. Maybe somethin original like Maple or Vanilla, like Mama did with me.”
Only a few days later, would I find myself crying and thrashing in the most pain I had ever felt in my life, wishing I had Ma by my side to help me through it. A few months after that, our newest addition to the family ran wildly through our home, ransaking everything in sight and bouncing around with his head full of big blonde curls.
“Charles, baby. Be careful. You’re gonna hurt yourself.” I grab him, picking him up to hold in my arms.
I stroke his soft, puffy cheek as he blows spit bubbles, which naturally pop all over me, but I was used to it by now. He’s got his daddy’s same bright blue eyes and a complexion that would’ve made Ma proud.
He was such a little angel, with an occasional tantrum here and there of course, but he was a smart boy, and a fast learner too. I was so grateful everything turned out easy and peaceful since I hadn’t caught a break for the past year.
Still, I had a big choice to make. Do I tell Charles who his father is? I can’t be like my Mama. I know how much it hurts to have something so personal be kept from you, but now I understand her struggle. Will he try to go after him one day? Will he be disappointed that Elvis is his father? Will he hate me if I never tell him?
Which brings me to the flip side of that issue; Do I tell Elvis? How do I tell him? Will he be disappointed with his son? Will he hate me for not telling him by now? What will happen between him and his new girl if I tell them?
My head hurt just thinking about everything.
On the bright side, I guess my wish of having kids with Elvis came true after all, but I didn’t have my Elvis to share it with.
“Come on, Bumble! Go up there with me!”
He tugs on her arm, but she panically plants her feet right into the ground. “Elvis, I don’t wanna go up there in front of everyone!”
“It’ll be fine. Come on!” With one hard tug, she falls forward, stumbling towards the stage with him.
The choir smiles at them, as well as their mothers. The reverend shouts a heavenly cry, preaching up to the sky.
“Come on, dance! Don’t you feel it?” He asks.
She did feel it. She felt power and dreams course through her veins from their singing. She looks around nervously, before Elvis makes an effort to bring her attention back over to him. His smile eases her little heart. Slowly, she lets his energy infect her, matching his rhythmic jumping and throwing her hands out to her sides.
‘Mmm Mary, don’t you weep
Ohh, Martha, don’t you moan
Pharoah’s army drowned in the Red Sea.’
Eventually all that I had saved up from working at Handy quickly dwindled away, and Pearl and I had no choice but to take up jobs again. Pearl was the first. She easily came by a nice job at one of our local groceries stores, I on the other hand had a few issues to work out. After days of searching I finally came across the church. I applied for their choir, which luckily I was hired for. I was nervous to start singing again, but at least I could build my voice back up without being heard too upfront, not to mention it was the only job that came with daycare.
I grew up on the music and loved it, but honestly, being back in the church was hard for me. I was anything but pure, and people knew it.
Night had fallen. They should have gone back home by now, but they were too entranced by the bar that was more lively than ever. Peeking into the window, the two find a scene that blessed their senses. This was something different, something they had never heard before, something they knew they shouldn’t be seeing.
“We should try that.” The boy says.
Honey jumps down from the window to face him. “I don’t know how to dance like that, Elvis”
“Neither do I. I just copy what they do.”
She falters for a moment, unsure if she should give in to the things she was feeling, but puts her hands on his shoulders no less. They sway back and forth to the music that muffled through the poor sealing of the window. She lifts her head to peek through the glass every now and again to make sure she’s imitating the adult woman correctly.
Then she sees them do something she knew her mama wouldn’t like. The dancer twirls her hips, reaching up to leave a heated kiss against the man she was with.
Honey shrugs. Well, if it was what they were doing.
She moves closer to Elvis, reaching up until-
A gasp fills the air, loud above the blues music coming from inside the building. The two children part from each other in horror, seeing Ms. James towering above them.
“Go on back home, boy, ‘fore I tell ya mama what you been up to.” She threatens. He swiftly scurries off, leaving Honey to her mother. She grabs her childs hand, marching back to their house. “Honey, if I ever catch you doin that again, I swear-. You ain’t listenin to anymore of that music!”
Oh, I got plenty looks when people saw Charles and I, ‘specially when I’d have to explain the whole father situation. My usual story was that his dad went into the army, but as time rolled by, everyone began to realize how unlikely of a story that was. For those that cared enough, rumors were passed around. Some say I slept with so many men that I didn’t actually know who the father was. Others think he was born from a one night stand. Obviously, I couldn’t tell them Elvis was the father, and I doubt that would HELP to ease all the rumors anyway. Regardless, I quickly became the epitome and walking consequence of lust.
Honey’s mother didn’t let her leave often after that, leaving her silenced in her room. Only occasionally would she be allowed out to play with the boys, including the day she finally got to share a special kiss with her especially favorite friend.
She was excited to see Elvis again, hoping to have another moment like that again as soon as possible, but when she sees him again she’s met with something that breaks her heart.
“I ain’t got no idea what you’re talkin bout.”
She crosses her arms, hoping and praying he was just pulling another prank on her. “Yesterday…when you kissed me…”
He chuckles in a sarcastic tone. “I don’t remember nothin. You musta been dreamin bout me.” He says with a smirk, the other boys snickering behind him.
She had never felt so embarrassed in her life. Betrayed by someone she thought was her friend.
I ran into B.B. King a few times at the church, who became a frequent visitor after that, when he wasn’t on tour anyways.
He came up to me on my way out one day. “Honey, long time no see.” He says, hugging me.
I squeeze him back, so very happy to see a familiar face after so long. “It’s so nice to see you, King.”
One of the girls brings Charles into the room, playfully chasing after him and his sloppy, bow legged steps.
He pulls away with a sad look. “I saw about E.P.” He awkwardly tucks his hands into his pocket. I respond with a defeated sign. “Now, it ain’t none of my business, but if you don’t mind me askin, what happened between you two? You both seemed real happy together, besides the whole jail thing, which I assume played a role in all of this.”
I let out a weak chuckle. “What? He never told you what happened himself?”
He shakes his head. “Nah, we lost touch a while ago.”
Charles stomps his way over to grab onto my leg with a toy in his mouth, his wet hands instantly getting slobber on my shin. I pick him up, awkwardly turning back to King.
“Honey, I’m sorry about all the things I said to you before.”
“It’s okay, Michael. I know you were just jealous you weren’t as good at playing ball as I was.” She states confidently.
He laughs, neither denying nor confirming the accuracy of her words, but instead fumbling with his fingers. “It’s just that- Honey, I-”
“What are you two doin?” Elvis interrupts.
They both look up at him, neither pleased by his presence. Honey crosses her arms, turning back to Michael. “You were saying.”
“Well, I, uh…” He swallows, nervously.
Honey waits for him to answer, but Elvis catches on fast, pushing Michael off of the bench before he can spill his next words. Elvis throws punches at him, but Michael throws them right back. Honey jumps up, attempting to push them away from each other, but it does no good.
“You never even liked her!” Elvis shouts.
“Man, you don’t either, remember!”
“Boys! What the hell’s going on here?!”
It takes their mothers to finally pry them away from each other. They breath heavily, eyeing each other while they get dragged away.
King raises a confused eyebrow. “That baby yours?”
I nod. “Yeah… His name’s Charles.”
He takes a closer look at him, taking in his lighter complexion, blonde hair, and baby blue eyes. He cranes his neck back in thought, before hesitating out, “E.P.’s?”
I stay quiet, biting at my lip and bouncing the baby on my hip. He takes this as a yes.
“He know?”
I shake my head, still not trusting my strength to admit anything out loud just yet.
He pulls me into another hug. “Look, anytime you need anything you tell me. You know us Handy kids will always be a family.” He pulls away, smiling at the baby. “Besides, you’re too talented to lose.”
“Oh whatever.” I laugh out, before taking on a sympathetic tone. “But thank you.”
“We’re moving away.” He says, glooming under the warm, sunny day.
“Okay, Elvis.” She states doubtfully.
He’s always saying him and his family are gonna travel the world and do this and that, but he never does, nothing but little lies and big dreams. The boy who cried wolf. It’s not until she looks outside her window the next morning that she realizes for once he was telling the truth.
Elvis sits in the back of his family’s car, his father packing the final bag in the trunk.
Her heart quickens. She speedily races outside, standing on her lawn as the family drives past her. Elvis watches his friend from the window, waving. She was in too much shock to wave back, but she’d regret for years that she didn’t. Her friend was gone. And she’d never see him again.
Or so she thought.
The days became an endless game of survival, trying to keep Pearl safe and Charles happily fed. Always felt like there wasn’t enough of something.
Life felt like nothing but a yellow brick road, except there was no good witch, no singing or dancing, no powerful wizard to fix all my problems, just an endless road that once led to my dreams, but after years of walking, I had long given up hope of ever finding my way home again.

for @auroraworldtourftbughead who asked about my "road trip to ohio" fic: ok so this is a s5 au that i started writing back in Feb/Mar. it picks up a few weeks after they find Polly's body, ie at the point in the show where it became extremely clear that they were just dropping the arc they'd been building for Betty & Jughead and veering off in another nonsensical direction. i really want to finish this one and correct the sins of late s5, lol. (and i just miss jughead's family!) here is a snippet from the beginning of the story:
It’s just past eight in the evening. She’s dragging the trash bins from the garage out to the sidewalk for tomorrow morning’s pickup when she sees him standing in the driveway next door, struggling to wrestle an oversized duffle bag into the storage compartment of his motorcycle.
“Jug. Hey.” She’s already halfway across the yard between their houses by the time he notices her. His eyes soften from surprise to mild concern as she approaches.
“Hey. How are you holding up?”
Betty mulls for a moment over her response. It’s a fair question to ask someone three weeks after they found their sister’s body rotting in the trunk of a rusting, broken junkyard sedan. She doesn't especially want to answer; she's just tired of coming up with ways to change the subject.
Thankfully the scene she's stumbled upon makes it easy. She gestures to the bag. "Hanging in there. What’s this?”
Jughead sighs, giving the duffel bag another half-hearted shove, to no avail. “I’m heading to Ohio for JB’s graduation.”
Recognition flickers dimly in her memory. He’d mentioned this to her weeks ago, when they were deep in investigation mode, one of probably a thousand things he’d said that had filtered in and out of her brain like water through a sieve. She’d said something like oh, my god, she’s graduating already? we’re so old! in response, and then promptly returned to obsessing over their latest clue in the hunt for the highway killer.
“But I guess the gift I got her is too big for this stupid thing –”
“You’re driving all the way to Ohio on a motorcycle?” she interrupts. “In the middle of the night? Isn’t that, like, a seven hour drive?”
He shifts his gaze away from her, towards the Andrews house, which she interprets as yes, I know this is a dumb fucking idea and no, I don’t want to talk about it.
After the last few months she's had, she can relate.
“It’s tomorrow,” he says. “I was supposed to leave yesterday, but – I kind of got distracted, with everything that’s been going on.”
Betty tries not to react to that. He must mean “everything” that’s been going on with Tabitha – her parents’ arrival in town, their burgeoning relationship. Kevin had seen them out at a restaurant together with the Tates, holding hands at the dinner table. Betty wishes they’d just make it public already, post a couple's photo on Instagram or something. It’s getting uncomfortable, pretending she doesn’t know.
He's muttering to himself, hoisting the duffel bag out of the storage compartment and onto his shoulder. "Maybe if I repack this into a backpack instead…"
“You can take my car, if you want,” she offers, and then, without allowing herself to actually consider what she’s proposing, adds, “Or…I could come with you.”
Jughead freezes, his eyes darting from her face to her car where it sits in the opposite driveway, and then back again. “Oh, no – I couldn’t ask –”
“We could tag-team the driving. And I’d love to see JB and your dad, and…everyone.” She doesn’t actually know if Gladys is still in the picture or not. “To be honest, I – I really need to get out of this house for a few days.”
She knows how she sounds: desperate. But she also knows that if anyone in her life can come anywhere close to understanding what this is like – what it means to be the child of a parent who is a walking, weeping open wound, a gaping hole of need that cannot possibly be filled – it’s Jughead.
(And she feels guilty for thinking of her grieving mother in those terms, she really does, but the truth is she’s suffocating. Put on your own oxygen mask first, Dr. Glass told her all those years ago. It was just about the only useful thing he'd imparted to her in a cumulative sixteen hours of therapy, other than a prescription for Adderall.)
“At least take the car,” she insists. “You can’t even fit your stuff in here.”
Jughead’s lips press together. His eyes flit back towards the house again – only the garage light is on, which is where he’s been staying. “You’re sure you want to sit in a car with me for seven hours? I’ve got terrible taste in music.”
Her face breaks out into a tremulous smile. It feels weird, but good – the first uncontrolled display of emotion she’s had in weeks that wasn’t borne of despair.
“I’m sure.”

FP Jones- Gladys Jones
The day FP told me that he and Gladys we're going to have another go at married life, was the worst day of mine
Flash Back
"I'm sorry I'm confused. Your throwing away our 3 year relationship, for a failed marriage?" I look at FP more confused than I had ever been. We’re currently sat at Pops where FP is telling me he's leaving me for his ex wife
"I know it's not ideal"
"Ideal?" I almost yell "FP she's the one who drove you to drink. I'm the one who helped you overcome that. I'm the one who's stood by you through everything. I'm the one who helped to nurse Jughead back to health after you decided to rumble with the Ghoulies"
"Fangs was shot, they wanted war"
"They didn't shoot Fangs FP!"
"YN I know that this is hard to understand" I scoff
"Understatement of the year"
"But she's the mother of my kids"
"What if I was pregnant FP or what if we had kids? would that be the only reason you were with me?"
"What? are you pregnant?"
"No but you didn't answer my question"
"I don't know what you want me to say"
"Neither do I. Just leave FP. Go pretend to play families somewhere else, but don't come running back to me when she breaks your heart again"
"YN don't be like that" FP places his hand on mine. I snatch it away
"Go, please" FP sighs and gets up from his seat
Current day
"Hey Pop, can I just get a burger and fries to go"
"Of course" Pop smiles at me before walking into the kitchen. I sit on a stool waiting when someone sits next to me. I turn my head to see FP
"You were right"
"I don't know what your on about. I'm right about a lot of things so be specific"
"Come on YN don't..." FP sighs "Gladys left" this makes me chuckle
"I can't believe I'm hearing this... actually you know what I can"
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have..."
"Broken up with me? because you did and now you are suffering"
"YN I didn't know.." I now look in FP's eyes
"Yes you did. You knew that leaving me for her was a risk that you were willing to take. You also knew that I wouldn't and will not take you back. What I've not understood for the last 6 months is why you left me, a woman who loved you and would have given you the world, for a woman who had always been in it for herself. Hell, her kids, JB and Jughead haven't truly had a mother in 11 years maybe more, but you thought she changed right? you thought she was the woman you married when you were 22 but you were living a fantasy FP" FP now has tears in his eyes
"I'm so sorry. I fucked up I know I did. I don’t expect you to suddenly jump into my arms and love me again or ever. But I need you in my life. Even if that’s just as a friend” Pops comes over with my food in a bag
“I don’t know FP. I’m sorry” I pay for my food and leave. Jughead sat on his bike outside
“You know he’s a wreak without you”
“Should have though about that before moving into Betty’s house with your mother”
“YN just because they were living under the same roof doesn’t mean he slept in her bed. He slept downstairs on the couch, he didn’t kiss or even touch her. He only stayed with her to keep JB safe, not that it worked out. Kurtz…”
“I heard. And I’m sorry for what happened. I warned you both about that stupid game, I warned FP about that woman and no one ever believes me. I may not be a Serpent, but I liked to think I was family. I like to think you and your sister both saw me as a mother figure. I haven’t got my own kids and I though that maybe you could have been them, or maybe your father and I… I’m now 30 years old and single”
“You don’t have to be, well single can’t help with the age. My dad messed up, just give him another chance” I start to let the tears I have been holding in start to flow
“I don’t think that’s a good idea. Maybe if it had only been a month, but it’s been 6 Jug. He’d still be with her if she hadn’t of left. I’m sorry Jug but I can’t be the fool who forgives what happened. Even if I did take him back, I’d worry about him leaving me again. That’s not fair on any one. This is for the best. Goodbye Jug”

wait ok staying on the topic of scenes with the russell children that make me go ??? . you know that scene when larry told marian he wanted to pursue architecture. and hes like "nooooo my dad would be soooo mean about it :(((" why does he say "mother, me, gladys, we must all keep to the steps he has laid down" literally what is bro waffling about. patently NOT TRUE. like why are you bringing bertha and gladys into this. this is literally an ep after bertha's "oh alright you know i'm helpless when you all gang up against me" like. larry you KNOW that if anyone is controlling your sister its your mom. and you ALSO KNOW VERY WELL UR DAD DOES NOOOOT CONTROL YOU MOM. sorry. that line to marian just makes me laugh every single time i think about it. bro is straight up yapping. no thoughts. is what he's saying true? no <3
Yes!! Like, larry, where did you get that opinion lol. I mean I guess george does seem pretty set that Of Course Larry Will Follow In My Footsteps (and, sort of, sneakily gets him to keep doing that with the brooklyn bridge (bertha style manipulation imo, absolute bertha tactics to be like what :) just go down there :) it's not at all to make you feel like an extension of me :)), but other than that it's pretty obvious that the russell household is either a george and bertha mutually agree or It's Bertha's Choice
OR IS IT OBVIOUS??!!
because they want something, they go to the other parent - gladys more so (which makes sense, bertha's definitely more wary and Watchful over gladys than george is over larry, plus like Society And Gender In The 1880s), and larry definitely has the vibe of a guy who's like 'well I'll ask my mum because then she can advocate to my dad' and he's definitely more willing to push things with bertha than he is with george, and we see multiple scenes of gladys going to george to try to convince bertha of something - they both definitely think that she has sway in their household, but they both think that george has final say (which, I guess we'll see how that goes in S3 😬)
I mean I was thinking about this during my like, third rewatch (lol @ myself), and it's like obviously larry and gladys are seeing more of george and bertha in a less formal/Taking Over New York Mode than anyone else, but they still have such a different view than we see them and it's because it's like, only the viewer is seeing those moments. Larry and Gladys aren't seeing them, like, talk about George's business (other than in a 'oh your father had some Business Success' dinner party convo way), they don't see their mother upset (cold fury doesn't count lol), they don't see george saying stuff like "it's important to you so it's important to me", they just see like, their mother Doing Stuff and their dad being like 'whatever, we have the money' about it (like obviously this is an oversimplification, but you get it). And I mean, I think that also explains why gladys is like 'why can't you control your wife/the bit where she says bertha doesn't know what love is', because they're picking up on the vibe of georgebertha (ie mutual respect for your spouse and support of their interest) without actually knowing that's what it is. It's just the background radiation of their lives where everyone else's background radiation is like 'mr astor can't stand his wife so much to the degree that he lives on a boat' or 'the mcallisters basically live in different cities from one another' or whatever it is the fanes have going on

hi!! given it was recently lt. little's birthday i had intended to dive into his backstory a little (hah) bit, only to discover that there is. Not Much. i cant believe i was making fun of this wet napkin of a man and for all we know he couldve been the life of the party?? anyway, i checked your cold boy research central (beloved), which has some info on his family, and i was wondering if you have any other leads? im not a researcher by any means but oh i would TRY for my boy nedward
honestly nonny i'm right there with you, but pretty much everything we know is in that document...!!!! he is a true international man of mystery.
this summer while doing research i was lucky enough to discover some letters with background into his relationship with the franklins which may have contributed to how he was chosen to go on the expedition. i also did a bunch of genealogical research while trying to figure out if his sisters had any descendants eligible for the type of DNA matching that identified the remains of john gregory, but with no luck - the matrilineal line was broken at some point.
his great-nephew Patrick Hamilton was an early aviator who died in a plane crash in 1912 - you can read more about the family of his niece Margaret Hamilton (Patrick's mother) at this blog post. she was the daughter of his sister Margaret Little who married a Rear-Admiral Cragg - this sister was the only one of his siblings to have children, and her daughter Margaret was the only one of her siblings to have children. one of Patrick's sisters Gladys married a guy named Lt. Col. Arthur Cyril Marmaduke Alington which led to a long line of descendants with the most absurdly british names you've ever heard.
ummmm what else about Little. from the few lines written about him in letters/documentation from early in the expedition we know that he was a nice guy who everyone seemed to like??? truly the most generic vibes of all time. no letters to or from him have ever popped up, let alone portraits or pictures, but who knows, maybe one day something finally will!

The Gilded Age season 2, episode 1: You Don't Even Like Opera spoliers...
First I have say I'm so happy The Gilded Age is back! I've waiting since they showed us the teaser for season 2, thought I'd lose my mind. But finally...
I'm so glad to see Bertha there in all her glory. Reminding, re-reminding, annoying, giving a headache to especially Mrs. Astor and showing them all they need to be falling under her reign. I definitely think that lovely surprise at the end of her dinner helped greatly. Mrs. Astor was squirming like worm on hook. Which I personally couldn't been happier about. Because some time in first season I completely fell under Bertha's spell I'm good with that still. It's not just that she's attractive because well duh, but it's that she's cunning, brilliant, devilish, crazy intelligent, 6 steps at least a head of anyone else, always has plan, suffers no fools, old money/new money she'll can take you down faster then you snap your fingers. But I do think she's a loyal friend and a good person to those who prove to that her too. So I have very deep affection for her character.
My heart went out to Peggy and her Mom that they didn't get to her son in time. That whole arch just put me in tears time and again. To get that close to her son only to lose him like that was just cruel. I really want to see happiness for her character. I still will never be ok with what her father did but I understand a little more why he did it. Especially back then, they have soften his character which helps to see where he may have been coming from trying to protect his daughter. It would be nice to see Peggy as some point have a relationship with her father again. Her father know the pain he has caused to both his wife and daughter. It's easy to the guilt and pain he himself is feeling.
Same for Marian after what happened last season, I hated watching her fall in love for first time to that low life who didn't deserve her. I doubt it would happen but I think her and Bertha's son Larry would make a wonderful couple. He definitely likes her, we seen that last season. I just like to see happiness for her. I really think Aunt Agnes needs get over Marian teaching water painting to upper class girls at a private school one day a week. Give me a break, it's so not a big deal. Even for back than it's shouldn't be a big deal.
I have such a I like her/I dislike her relationship with Aunt Agnes. All last season I was like this omg one moment I wanted smack her upside the head and next I was nodding my head agreeing with her. I feel it may be another season of that with her.
Then there's Aunt Ada in middle trying to keep to peace or keep the house from burning down. Their like sisters that got custody of an adult teenager which it basically was back then when you had an adult young woman in your house. But I really love Aunt Ada. I know she's always keeping the peace but she did say in episode sometimes yelling could be a good thing so. But she has such a loving heart and she truly wants everyone to find happiness. I'd like to see her get happiness also. I could easily seen her be a wife and mom. So she deserves her own amount of happiness.
Now I know, we all know there is no way that Bertha is going to allow Gladys to marry Oscar. But what I'm trying to figure out is this is that good or bad? Now I see Bertha wanting have what happened with Cora on Downton Abbey, with Gladys ends up marring a English Lord or Duke. Not Oscar Van Rhijn that's for sure. But what about for Gladys at first I was against the idea because shouldn't she find a man that actually want to be in love with her? With Oscar because he's gay that's never a true possibility. But after what Oscar said in episode it got me thinking. Because back then it wasn't like a wife square and equal partner in a marriage. Depending on husband it was expected for the wife to have the husband's opinions on things, to keep in line. Gladys being married to Oscar she would have freedom she most likely never have in any other marriage. But she would also never have romantic love, I definitely think she'd have love with Oscar. Now I'm a lesbian so it is different to say the least but some of my closest friendships have been with gay men. One I consider the brother I never had. So Gladys could have a very deep emotional relationship with Oscar that's love just not romantic. So I'm lost what to think, however Oscar would need to show that wanting to marry Gladys isn't just for his own selfish reasons.
Than the mess with the robber barons. Which I wonder is just ment to mirror so many CEOs, Executives, Studio heads and etc... that are fighting the unions in our own time? I don't know if labor unions started because of robber barons or not. However I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they did. At that meeting with George Russell and the other robber barons is having talking about workers wanting medical care, better housing, better pay, 8 hour work day. While they choke on their own wealth but don't want to give the very people that are making them that wealthy a better life should be definition of greed. Is this how America became the greedy horrible place we now live in? That's why I use the term robber barons instead of successful heads industrialists. One tell everyone plainly what exactly what they were. But in the show it hard to know where place my feelings. Because the show is based somewhat in reality but the Russell's are fictional. But say that George Russell had been a real robber barons of the time. A large part of me wants to hate his character, but the problem is I actually like his character quite a bit. I want to see him put in ethical workplace practices for his workers, I want you see him do the right thing for the people that work him. Now I'm somewhat fearful what the show will have them do. Most likely mirror history no doubt.
Because I'll attempt it I love seeing Bertha in all her gorgeous, insanely beautiful dresses. Their so many of her's I was drooling over in this episode along, (she has the best wardrobe of whole cast). But if we were talking realistically, where is all that money coming from to pay for those dresses and grows. Off the backs off works who live in poverty. Does now, just like then makes so much sense why all jobs and industries need labor unions. But perhaps ultimately that's a part of the show. Because those two very thoughts were fighting against themselves at the same time in US right then. I do like the idea of the Gilded Age making us really think about that.
I'm so looking forward to whole new season!
I'm 100% on Bertha Russell side. She's basically Regina Mills cousin to me, don't ever ask me explain that outside my own mind lol.
Oh yea can't wait to see all the gorgeous clothes.

riverdale recap. didnt live blog this part my bad
kurtz fuckinf died. RIP MY GREASY JUNKIE BABE. he got killed by the gargoyle king
gladys (jugheads mom) left town. one bc she put jellybean in danger with the whole drug trade thing ans two bc FP foudn out about it and hes. Peeved. and the sheriff so. she's disappearing for a bit she says.
black hood, betty's dad faked his death. came back only to be shot by penelope blossom during a game she put on to prove that betty/jughead/archie/veronica were just as dark as the rest of the town. they weren't.
oh yeah penelope blossom is the gargoyle king
hiram lodge got fucjing arrrested. for illegal gambling and the like.
hermione lodge got arrested bc hiram told the police that she tried to kill him. twice
junior prom happened ans betty was attacked by the black hood (this happened obviously before she was killed)
cheryl wasn't allowed to be prom queen bc of some stupid farmie rule (cult behavior) something something the one become many the many one. idk. anyway she was pissed about it. as she should be shout out my egoistical lesbian icon
oh yeah hiram got arrested bc when he "sold" pops chock lit shop veronica, he actually tricked her. he kept the deed and gave her a fake so she was In Fact. putting money back into his pocket. she got pissed about that brought the fbi in to get him caught in the act and staged this whole thing.
hiram also literallt almost killed a teenager in the ring over some stupid shit. grown ass 50 yr old man literallt threw the ref and said "THIS ENDS NOW‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️" like fuck dude calm down hes 17
speaking of archie, hes in his regular self destructive tendencies he tried to fight 2 fights in the same day AFTER losing 6 pounds of weight. crazy shit.
oh yeah the whole prom thing they all dressed up as medieval times and betty had to be crowned prom queen bc she's. the gryphon queen or some shit and in the gargoyle king's gospel it said that the gryphon queen's coronation would bring about the gargoyle king arrival blah blah.
right like i said about the black hood attacking betty at prom? that was bc she received a note saying she needs to go see the king immediately, before the crowning. something blah blah if you say something everyone will die. and then she almost died.
also to escape, hal cooper, the black hood. cut his hand off and threw it on the burning transfer bus (he was supposed to be going to another prison. betty literallt thoight he escaped as soon as she heard because he specfically asked her to help him get transfered to a facility in riverdale.) to make everyone believe he was dead. so he h. so he had. so he had a hook for a hand.
he also killed like 5 other people at prom before trying for betty. all while the juniors were in the gym
after the black hood scare, she went to her mom, who's with the farm whos been using the old "Sisters Of Quiet Mercy" building for their uses. basically they're an ex nun group who did bad mental health services. and also part orphanage. ANYWAY after the black hood scare betty decided to stay with her mom in the cultish farm facility.

I'm afraid gladys will find out about Chells secret way too late and idk how she would handle her sister keeping something big like that from her as well. My poor girl doesn't deserve that. Also! Will Caroline use a gun, will Mr. Chubby Beak come back and save everyone lol jk
It's a pretty big secret to hold onto! We will see if she finds out or not~
Caroline (as we've seen) does know how to use a gun, so maybe she'll pull those skills back out! And Mister Chubby Beak is going to be their saving grace, of course
