on that topic actually, heres some fun details abt my one character design interpretations!!! not gonna go into full detail on my interpretations of object biology bc then id get off topic :)
(ALSO. i hc that while the waiting room heals injuries, it still acts as if the injury healed! so if it wouldve scarred, it scars, if it wouldve caused permanent dmg after healing, that still occurs, etc)
Liam:
limbs are VERY kangaroo like, but with many hints of cat like structure
digitigrade when walking, but will usually stand the same a plantigrade would since it takes less energy for the leg shape. he cannot walk the way a normal plantigrade would
after getting back home, he stands with digitigrade footing more than plantigrade bc. stress
he walks like bipedal digitigrade, but the walking cycle i specifically lean to is emus! (since kangaroos walk using their tail and liam Doesnt have that)
he CAN jump like a kangaroo though. if its funny
he also tends to sit like a kangaroo and it is EXTREMELY silly
shoulder can move more than a humans can, but its restricted to the side pockets
his limbs are around average length and a bit wide!
not gonna go into complete detail for reasons mentioned earlier, but while his torsos(?) (aka his object!) fabric has a set 'max length', his limbs have longer 'fabric' (same material. its BASICALLY fur or hair? idk man objects arent normal animals)
his limbs' fur DOES stand when he is angry/scared/similarly agitated
his top handle is basically like a fucked up antenna type thing. as a result, it moves in conjunction w his expressions the same way many animals' do
his hanging straps are something of a somewhat vestigial structure, but they CAN move a little. not much, though
teeth are a bit more cat like than kangaroo. like theyre a mix of the two but more slightly more cat like, because i am not drawing him w kangaroo teeth im sorry
hands have retractable claws a la cats! the claws themselves are the same material as his zippers :)
paw pads are the same light green as the top of his front pouch!
has dew claws!
after ep 13, his left hands claws are basically impossible to retract
after ep 6, he has scars on his left leg from where it was broken
he has a lightning scar on his left arm, and the fabric around the shoulder has burn damage. once the fur grows back in this is a bit harder to see, but its easiest to see on the hand, where the paw pads were burnt
he has a few smaller scars here in there from his Adventures in ep 14. there are two easier to see ones around his pouch, and a fairly small one near the top of his object
after ep 18, he has scars on his right leg from where it was broken. there are more on this leg, as the leg was crushed rather than snapped
there is more damage to his right leg in general. the left was able to be healed after he died, albiet the damage was still done, but his right leg is more prone to pain and weakness
after getting home he uses a cane!
the fabric under his eyes is a little discolored :( his face area also has some desaturated fabric akin to grey hairs. he has some gray hairs on his arms too but theres more sparse (same way as like... irl hair and fur generally discolors near the head first)
Bryce:
fairly human like bone structure/limb positioning(?)! plantigrade and bipedal so
shoulders can move a good bit similar to liam, but the shoulders are inherently attached to his label, and theres a certain radius they cant exceed. its probably roughly 5-6 inches if i had to give an estimate?
his limbs have web/fin things from the inside of middle upper arm and middle lower arm, and the back of his knees. they are the same color as his label (YES i miscolored them in that one post. whoops)
he contains a lot of air, making him buoyant. he also has organs. no you cant see them
crocodile teeth kinda, but a little shorter!
arms have(?) scutes . i dont know how to describe this and looking it up isnt helping, but think like. crocodilian limbs basically!!! in terms of texture at least. its also somewhat dimilar to his caps texture!
crocodile claws :) these are made of the same type and color plastic as his cap, but without the ridges
no paw pads for bryce!
(debating if his hands n feet r webbed? thats subject to change)
his limbs are just slightly transparent! but not as much as, say, amelias. still very reflective, though!
long and thin arms, also!
after ep 13 his right arm has a lightning scar. his label is burnt near the shoulder. the plastic near the label is slightly 'melted,' sort of?
has some scattered scars from episode 14 as well! a noteable one of these is his impalement scar
Amelia:
arguably has one of the weirder limb structures?
her arms have a general standard human like structure but with kinda paw like hands
her legs are cat legs, but the front legs rather than the more typical back legs
kind of has fur, but its kinda quill like! like sonic..
her fur can also stand, but her fur doesnt get particularly long so its not that noticable
cat teeth :)
ironically her claws are NOT retractable. they r simply out at all times!
her claws are also almost the same texture as her arms, but much darker
DOES have paw pads!
has dewclaws, but only rly has 2 toes i guess?
mirroring this, her hands have 4 fingers, but her pinkies are MUCH smaller than the rest
her limbs are VERY transparent! but get darker farther down the limb. VERY reflective!
has visible wax in her upper arms (all four!)
leg arms are about average length, and arm arms are a bit longer! both are slightly thin but wider at the end. her limbs are fairly flexible!
sits weird bc shes got 4 arms basically, but basically imagine half of a cat sitting for her legs
her ARM arms' shoulders can move a good bit, but only as high as her wax goes, as they are attached there. width wise they can probably slide around 4 inches in either direction?
after ep 1 she has multiple cracks, as well as a missing chip at her top. the cracks look like when glass is re-glued together!
after she gets home, her wax is a little sun damaged!
Charlotte:
limbs are very reminiscent of big cats!
her arms are standard arms and her legs are lion/tiger/whatever-like back legs
has lion like teeth! her fangs overhang a little bc she does not have a lion muzzle
her arms are attached at the crust and are confined to the crust. her shoulders can slide up probably arouuuund 6-7 inches maybe?
her arms are about average length and width, but she has thr power of Being Buff
she has freckles :) and these extend to her limbs, as well!
fur is very reminiscent of a big cat on her limbs, with fur longer than amelias but shorter than liams! it can also stand similar to those two
has light fur on her hands and feet, like when cats have little mittens!
lacks claws entirely, and also lacks dew claws
but she DOES have paw pads! they are coarse like a dogs' paw pads rather than smooth like a cat's, however
after ep 16, she has a scar that goes from the top of her left eye, to somewhat above her right leg. its darker than the inside of her objects color, but lighter than her crust
after getting back home, her right arm is amputated and the top right of her head/object is removed (which includes her eye, but i dont know what verb to use when her head is bread?)
Taylor:
ok hers are like. some Amalgamation of pangolin and horse?? idk man
on the top of all her limbs, shr has rectangular scale like things? like pangolins have but less layered. they are made of glossy kinda paper, and are much thicker than her objects paper, kinda like when u stack a bunch of sheets of paper
her limbs are fairly long! but their width is JUST slightly thinner than standard. like a wider version of bryces legs basically?
her arms attach at... some point on her object? they cant slide TOO high, maybe just about 4-5 inches up or down, but i will admit im a bot stumped wrt the left and right movement. never ask me about that again (unless u have a solution. im just Stuck bc she can UNROLL? and her limbs will b at her side)
has ungulate legs
instead of hooves its like... two big claw things?
she has similar structures for fingers on her hands, but they are more articulated! 4 on each hand :)
these claws are made of paper, but thr glossy kind seen on the front pages of magazines? think of when you fold paper into a cone and thats basically what you have here, but a bit more layered
behind her knee(???) is kind of a spike of one of these? i dont know what thats called and dont know what words to use to search that and find out
she doesnt have paw pads per se, but she has like. smth akin to the scale things earlier? but its much thinner and more flexible, on her palms
her hands are also fairly flat on her arm, kinda like an elephant?? i dont know how to describe taylor im sorry
her arms themselves are more similar to the texture of loose paper!
pretty normal human like teeth i guess?
no fur!
Charlie:
bug like in nature :)
limbs are like grub limbs basically! but a bit more human like in terms of bone structure
his fingers are kind of stem like?
no paw pads
has mandibles
DOES have scars from being crushed, but theyre fairly subtle. like ... many long thin lines

Sword gays showdown, round 2 of bracket one
Propaganda:
For Izzy:
‼️SPOILERS FOR OFMD S2‼️Izzy is quite literally THE best swordfighter in the whole show and is renowned worldwide for being virtually unbeatable (except for that one time with Stede but that was a fluke and we don’t talk about it). In his debut scene, he slashed Stede’s shirt into scraps in the sluttiest way possible in less than a second, and he didn’t lay a single scratch on his chest. He was shown to be able to extinguish several candles with a swipe of his sword, without knocking a single one over, ON A FRESHLY AMPUTATED LEG! Not to mention that he’s the embodiment of an elderly shelter cat with a dozen different medical issues and a bitchy attitude, but that’s not the point of this tournament! Izzy Hands, this slutty, sad, sopping wet cat of a man, is the best sword gay among sword gays!
He cuts open a dude’s shirt by spelling out his own name in sword flicks. He later “trains” with the sword shirtlessly, surrounded by candles, in front of said dude.
he's a wet cat
For Utena:
Butch lesbian sword woman, unbelievably iconic, she deserves to win it all.
The whole story is about her using her sword abilities to revolutionize the world and fight the patriarchy! And she is in love with Anthy. (Also, FYI, pretty much any character from this is a sword gay)
Her entire deal is that she fights people with swords to protect her girlfriend. Also she's hot
the og sword lesbian
she is literally THE sword gay, her girlfriend is the sheath for the sword
what is gayer than pulling a sword from your bride’s boobs? letting your bride pull a sword from your boobs
She is THE Sword lesbian, her whole show is swordfighting over the Princess. That's the plot, this lesbian has duels over marrying the princess. And their relationship is canon
Sword Lesbian. That’s it.
MADE ME GAY

hot take: seasons 5 and 6 hilson is peak and in this essay i will tell you why.
spoiler alert obviously.
season 5 deals with the aftermath of amber’s death. an event that deeply affects house and wilson. house since he blames himself for her death and wilson since he and amber had a healthy and happy growing relationship, although it was short lived. amber’s relationship with wilson also was one of the only ones that house seemingly “approved” of and amber warmed up to house quickly. house held some underlying romantic feelings towards amber but this was never confessed or really confirmed out of house’s own imagination and hallucinations.
season 5 of house sees house spiraling after the death of amber, trying to get wilson back into his life while he goes through grief, and abusing vicodin in a much worse way than before. this is the ultimate test for house and wilson at that point of the show up until season 8. house attempts to emotionally blackmail wilson and hires a PI to try to get him back. these actions are irrelevant since in ‘birthmarks’ wilson is forced to take house to his “father’s” funeral where the way their friendship started is revealed and where wilson sees a more emotional side of house. house digs through wilson’s insecurity that he needs house and left him because he’s afraid of losing him. their relationship is essentially healed back again after opening up to each other and house allowing himself to be vulnerable about his father.
there is an underlying theme of grief throughout this season and especially the unhealthy ways to cope with it. the middle of season 5 sees house and wilson slowly gaining each other’s trust back but house is still spiraling behind the scenes. up until the season finale where he abuses so much vicodin that he hallucinates a dead amber and is forced to finally seek help and go to a psychiatric hospital to get clean.
this moves us to season 6 where house finally opens up in therapy and gets clean from vicodin. he is at his best mental health of the show and is genuinely slowly healing from his insecurities and issues. house grows hugely in this season and this also shows through his relationship with wilson. he still uses wilson as a crutch but much less so than before. he genuinely does nice things for wilson like stealing his speech at a conference so wilson doesn’t get in trouble for killing a patient. house and wilson also move in together to their own apartment and are genuinely happy and stable up until when sam, wilson’s first wife, comes back and uproots house, forcing him to move out, and destroys what stability house had. however house is healthy enough that he discusses this in therapy and doesn’t relapse. season 6 is the theme of acceptance and healing. the season 6 finale has house face another heartbreak of a patient dying because he amputated her leg, something he convinced her to do even though she didn’t want it, directly relating to his relationship with his leg. cuddy tells house that she’s moving on from him and wilson is moving on from him, he has nothing now and he’d be alone. this coupled with the patient dying no matter what he did almost gets him to relapse. yet house doesn’t and is held together in the end by cuddy confessing that she loves him even though she wishes she didn’t.
house’s growth in seasons 5 and 6 is punctuated by wilson’s stability in his life. when wilson’s prescience wavers, house falters. this makes their codependency especially obvious. even in season 6, wilson’s guilt of leaving house behind and hurting him deals house a serious blow even though he’s in therapy and is more mentally stable. this highlights the importance of their relationship and how house and wilson’s relationship is the backbone of the show and house himself. they need each other and when one stumbles, the other falls like dominos. seasons 5 and 6 is, in my opinion, the best example of the importance of house and wilson’s relationship and the ultimate example of their dedication to each other.

Queer cinema buffs, just wanted to point out something that leapt out to me about OFMD 2x02. The scene where Ed and Izzy talk after Izzy has had his leg amputated is framed and shot in a way that I think deliberately echoes Ben-Hur (1959).
We know Davey Jenkins is a classic cinema fan, and Taika and Con have compared Ed and Izzy to Jesus and Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar. I swear Con referenced Ben-Hur at one point too, though now I can't find a source. But it's a film with infamous gay undertones: Gore Vidal came on board and queered up the relationship between Judah Ben-Hur (Charlton Heston) and his boyhood bestie/rival, Messala (Stephen Boyd) -- Boyd played them as former lovers intentionally, while Heston was, uh, not informed. (Vidal is a huge bitch about Heston in his memoir; recommended.)
Tumblr media
Pictured: just bro stuff.
Anyway -- uh, spoilers for Ben-Hur -- in the scene in question, Messala, who has betrayed Judah and gotten him sold into slavery (it's a whole thing), then faces his rival in a chariot race, cheats, and is the source of his own downfall, getting trampled by horses. He is told he needs to have both his legs amputated or he will die, but he refuses and instead confronts his former friend (lover?) one last time.
Tumblr media
I wish I could find better caps of this, but the way it's shot -- the dark room, the way the light plays across his face, even the angle of his head -- immediately popped into my head when I saw the parallel scene in OFMD 2x02.
Tumblr media
(Gif by @hgedits)
Now of course, Izzy is not the cause of his own predicament to the extent that Messala is; he and Ed have both made the bed he now lies in together. Which is why Izzy gets to get up from his death bed and Messala doesn't.
Maybe, unlike Messala, he'll also be able to escape the Celluloid Closet! *manifesting Izzy Hands gay makeout scene in S2*
Anyway, Ben-Hur is a real good movie, you should watch it.

How Izzy’s Death Could’ve Made Basic Storytelling Sense
Just to be clear, Izzy is my favorite and I wanted him to live more than anything. This isn’t about that, and that is NOT why I hated his death. Had it served the narrative in a way that made even the most basic storytelling sense, while I’d admittedly have been devastated in a different way (i.e. the character whose queerness was relegated to the subtext in s1 and as soon as it’s textual and his whole arc is that he’s killed, but that’s a whole separate post…), but at least there would’ve been a correctly crafted arc from a surface level narrative standpoint that ended in the death of my favorite character. But that’s not what this is about. It’s is about how the show could’ve actually made the death actually make sense and work effectively. (Also, if you want my unasked for thoughts on how most of the existing plot of s2 (minus 7-8) could’ve easily been adjusted to fix the narrative as a whole and keep Izzy alive, I wrote this)
But. For those in the fandom insisting that Izzy HAD to die, including DJenks who has said as such in interviews (for reasons I do not understand), from an objective developmental editor standpoint, this is what I think needed to change to make Izzy’s death serve the narrative, character arcs and dynamics, pacing, structure, and thematic elements correctly.
It’s about 2K words just so you know what you’re gonna get into. Spoilers under the cut.
Issue 1. Izzy’s relationship with the crew and how they truly became his family this season totally vanished during his death scene. The same crew who he protected from Ed during the later, worse parts of the Kraken phase. The crew who banded together to save his life by hiding him from/lying to Ed about it, and amputating his leg to save him. The crew he saved by crawling up those stairs during the storm, hobbling out into the rain with one leg and shooting Ed before he could shoot a cannon ball through the mast and kill them all. The crew who called him “our dick”. The crew that then banded together with Stede’s half of the crew to him the leg and the new unicorn (aka the figurehead of the ship). That crew didn’t cry a SINGLE tear when he died. What?? Fang sobbed most of episode one and really lost it when Izzy got shot. Where was that when he died?? Izzy’s last speech to Ricky had something along the lines of: piracy is about belonging/family. We are Good. (Forgive me, I’m paraphrasing, but that’s the gist). Izzy truly did find his family in the crew outside of Ed. That was absolutely fantastic, especially in the first four episodes and episode six. It VANISHED when he was dying and dead.
The fix: To make the death impactful, effective, or even to make it make sense on a very basic acting and writing level, the crew should’ve been utterly DEVASTATED. At least heartbreaking music and like 30 seconds of everyone breaking down and holding each other. At least some of them crying and holding each other in the background when he was dying. Come on.
Issue 2. Thematically speaking, is piracy Good or Bad? Again, Izzy tells Ricky that they (the pirates/his crew) are capital G Good. Yet Ed has spent a lot of time maintaining piracy is capital B Bad. He tells the urchins as such. Here’s some money that I never had, now you don’t have to be pirates. Don’t be pirates. He doesn’t want Stede to kill Ned Low in cold blood. Ed just doesn’t want to be a pirate. Even at the end AFTER Izzy dies telling Ed he’s with his family (implied that this is the crew) and they love Ed, Ed LEAVES THAT FAMILY AND LEAVES PIRACY IMMEDIATELY. We’re left with him and Stede watching the family Izzy swore was Good and loved Ed sail away because Ed thinks piracy is Bad. Which is it?? The death served nothing in convincing Ed he could be happy with his found family on the sea as Ed, not Blackbeard, so the dying words were pointless. The thematic elements are all over the place (for the whole season but that’s another post) and that needs changing to make the death scene make sense.
The fix: Izzy should’ve told him he sees he doesn’t want to pirate anymore, he’s glad he’s found love with Stede because Izzy isn’t going to make it, go run your fokkin’ inn, you twat (affectionate).
Issue 3. Izzy died of bad planning and bad luck. Why didn’t they take the gun from Ricky? Between Spanish Jackie, Izzy, and Jim, SOMEONE would’ve thought about it. If not those three, someone else would’ve, but come one. One if not all of those three would’ve known better. Yeah, Izzy happened to be standing in front of Ed and he got shot instead of him, but you’ve gotta be REALLY looking for that to even be aware it’s what happened. It wasn’t even on purpose unless Ed strategically placed himself behind Izzy (which I doubt was the intent). Izzy didn’t position himself protectively/take the bullet for anyone on purpose. It was just happenstance and you only notice it if you’re rewatching and hyper-analyzing everything (which a lot of us, me included, in the fandom do, but casual watchers don’t. It’s totally unclear as far as the surface level narrative goes) Any sort of “heroism” is not acknowledged, it’s barely even noticeable in the shot. If that was the intent, it HAD to be clearer and acknowledged by the characters so the audience would realize the stakes and repercussions of clear choices. As it is, I don’t think it was intentional. If Izzy HAS to die, it should truly have rounded out his arc in a way that CLEARLY changed the course of the scene, leaving him to protect people he’d put in danger at the end of s1. It didn’t. It just read as terrible planning to the point of it being out of character for more than one character, and bad luck.
The fix: Izzy should’ve saved someone. I personally don’t like the idea of it being Ed. I’s have rather he save Stede (Not really, but it’s better than Ed I guess) But really Izzy should’ve died saving the crew. The crew makes the most sense to me, narratively speaking. He’s their figurehead, he’s protected the Kraken Crew for months and they should’ve been fiercely loyal to him, he blames himself for what Ed did to them (more on this later) so it makes sense for him to fiercely protect his crew. His family. Who should’ve been devastated that it happened because Izzy is the one character of the main three who’s managed to earn that status this season.
Issue 4. The death did not serve to move the plot along. There are literally zero things that would’ve been different for the end of the episode, save Izzy being alive and on the Revenge in his rightful role he earned with his crew as the captain, if he’d have lived. Ed and Stede aren’t partnering with Zheng to go after the guy who killed him in the next season. Nope. They got the offer but nah. They’re running an Inn. Which Izzy would’ve supported based on literally everything we’ve seen from him in episodes 5-8. The crew who Izzy protected fiercely and who viewed him as their leader? Not one tear during his death or the the funeral. Happily sailing away to do presumably more Muppet Treasure Island hijinks. No character development happened. No plot development happened. The season could’ve ended literally the EXACT SAME WAY with Izzy alive aboard the Revenge!!! No stakes were changed at all. No one was impacted enough for it to seem like it was even going to be a plot obstacle next season. It just happened, Izzy’s toxic situationship who maimed him multiple times over the course of months to the point of his leg needing to be amputated was sad for one (1) scene, then we moved on and did not seem sad at all at the funeral. What.
The fix: The plot should’ve been driven by the death. Ed and Stede (but especially Ed), and DEFINITELY the crew should’ve been sailing off plotting to avenge the death and defend piracy against Ricky and the British, especially with Zheng who lost her whole fleet. Ricky and the British are clearly (or so I hope, nothing’s clear here anymore tbh) the primary antagonist for the theoretical third season. No one should be running an whim-based inn for fun or sailing off happily into the sunset after the death of the most major character aside from Ed and Stede, who beyond proved himself a major part of something every character (his family) should’ve cared about this season. If he HAD to die, that death should have furthered the plot. But instead, it seems everyone shrugged it off with tears exclusively from Ed.
Issue 5. Izzy got shot in the left side. The side in which canonically NO ONE DOES FROM BEING INJURED ON IN THE OFMD UNIVERSE.
The fix: Yeah I know this is just too nit-picky but it was also just SO sloppy. Like just shoot him on the other side if he has to die, because this was a very memorable plot point more than once in s1. Like, come on y’all.
Disclaimer: Issues/fixes 1-5 would all need to happen together to truly fix it and make the death serve the narrative correctly. Issue/fix 6 is a totally separate route, which I personally hate, but at least the narrative would’ve made sense this way.
Issue 6. The idea that Izzy had to die so that Ed could be free of Blackbeard makes no sense at this point in the story. Ed already threw away his leathers and gave away his treasure to symbolically get rid of Blackbeard, and Izzy very sweetly encouraged him to follow the feeling that throwing out the leathers gave him. Izzy told Stede that he and Ed were good for each other. They balance each other out. Izzy is on good terms with both of them and their relationship, so Izzy “having to die” so Ed could flourish as Ed genuinely makes no sense and came totally out of left field.
The fix for 6: This one stands alone and is my absolute least favorite option, but if it HAD to happen without the 1-5 fixes, here’s how it could’ve made sense. If THIS is truly the way it was going to end, Izzy needed to be continuously antagonistic or avoidant to at least Ed and actually be shown holding Ed back from happiness until that last second. He wasn’t. He was so much better. Izzy clearly does blame himself (that’s for a separate post because I have lots of thoughts there) but to be fair they were both abusive in that relationship, for years it seems. Although I think by the beginning of s2, the power dynamic has clearly flipped and it was Ed who was doing most of it and Izzy was exhausted and knowingly “reaping what he’d sewed” (I don’t Blame Izzy for his abuse but I think this was his mindset) so the crew wouldn’t get the brunt of it.
If he seriously HAD to die because the writers just had to have it that way, those are the changes I think would’ve made the narrative work/make sense, served all the character arcs and dynamics correctly, and actually driven the plot as fictional deaths are supposed to, compelling things into a third season. Seriously, this season finale was a mess of baffling choices the most series finale season finale I’ve ever seen.
Anyway. There’s my unsolicited two-cents. Now back to hoping Izzy’s in the gravy basket waiting to be sea witch necromancied back by seagull Buttons in season 3. I love this show and I hate hating what I hate hating about it because it’s my absolute favorite and I can’t stand it because it’s fantastic and the worst thing I’ve ever seen. (Also, Izzy should’ve lived).

Ftfo chapter 33 spoilers
Tumblr media
This drawing got out of hand very quickly
Unfortunately, I think the only route is to just amputate his leg and chuck it at Fell alphys and Gaster. I know healer doesn’t condone violence/killing but um.. maybe this one time is fine because WTF THEY LITERALLY PUT A BOMB IN YOUR LEG in a hospital too!!
Also I could not fit all of the ink protection squad in here, but close enough :P

Izzy Hands x Reader (GN)
SEASON 2 CONTENT AHEAD!!!

Warnings: Spoilers. Amputation. Slight descriptions of NSFW content. Babygirl goes off the rails and tries to kill everyone.
Chapter Eleven - Indestructible little fucker
♡♡♡
You sit by his bedside. He's in agony. You hold his hand and dab at his sweaty forehead with a bit of old cloth. Not the most hygienic thing to do, but the only you can do.
Izzy is alive.
Blackbeard asked Frenchie to kill him, but not only did you tell him not to, he didn't want to kill him either. With Frenchie's help, and Jim and Archie too, you got Izzy below deck, hidden away in a small room. The entrance was blocked so it was isn't noticable.
That is where you were now. His leg cannot be saved and he's in horrible pain.
He's a total mess.
"Kill me, you fucking cowards!" He yells, not caring much for your comforting actions. All he can feel is the pain in his leg and in his heart.
"Shh." You try to get him to quiet down. If Blackbeard hears him you'll all be in deep shit.
"Lord above he smells somethin' terrible!" Frenchie says, coming into the room.
"Yeah, his leg's rotting!" Archie exclaims, almost cheerfully.
You run your fingers through Izzy's knotty and greasy hair. God, you just want to take away all his pain.
"It needs to be cut off," you say, not once looking away from Izzy. He looks at you, not reacting to your words at all.
"We just had him asleep. You're freakin' him out!" Jim hisses at Frenchie.
"Kill me--" Izzy goes to yell again but you quickly move your hand over his mouth. His words muffled by your palm.
"Alright. Listen, listen, listen. Start with his leg, see where it goes." Frenchie says. He makes his way out, unable to stand it down there any longer.
"I've done this before. Which one?" Jim asks, holding up two different weapons.
You keep your hand in Izzy's, looking at him.
"Definitely the fucked-up one. I think that one's all right," Archie said.
Both you and Jim look at Archie, deadpan expression.
"I'm not a fucking idiot. Which one?" Jim gestures to the weapons in their hand.
"Oh! Dealers choices."
Jim chooses one and then looks at you. "Ready?" They ask.
You nod and turn back to Izzy, holding his hand tight. This was not going to tickle, but you would do anything to save Izzy.
"Uno, dos-- tres." Jim starst to cut off Izzy's leg.
"He's a gusher! He's a gusher!" Archie says.
Jim gags. You have to keep your eyes on Izzy to avoid looking, but you can hear it. You think you're going to be sick.
Izzy yells in pain.
You lean forward and cradle his face in your hand, your thumb resting on his cheeks as he writhes in pain. He can't look at you, unable to focus, but you hope he can feel the warmth of your hand.
"I'm going to save you, Izzy," you whisper. "I'm going to save you."
♡♡♡
Fleeting looks across the ship. Shared in secret behind Blackbeard's back. A look of longing and affection, but also despair. Sadness that he cannot just reach out and pull you closer to him. Sadness that he cannot kiss your lips and caress you. His heart yearns to hold you, love you, care for you, but it cannot as long as Blackbeard keeps up this nonsense.
If Izzy so much as steps out of line, Blackbeard punishes him. If Blackbeard threatens the crew, Izzy takes the blame. He will take all of it just keep the crew safe, just to keep you safe. No harm will befall anyone other than Izzy of he can help it.
The stars were out. The night sky clear. Izzy was doing his rounds when he found you up on deck. Your head was tilted upward toward the sky. You looked stunning in the eye of the first mate. No one else was present so he stepped over to you with careful steps. He came to stand so close beside you, his hand reached to brush against yours. Your heart leaped out of your chest, but the smile on your face was everything to him.
"What are you doing out here?" He asked you.
"Wishing on stars."
He had to chuckle slightly at that. Sometimes you said the most carefree and strangest things. Ever since Stede Bonnet, he can agree that in some ways you both had softened up a little.
"What are you wishing for?"
"I can't tell you."
"Why not?" He asks, smiling softly at you.
"Because then it won't come true."
Izzy wished he had the guts to kiss you right there under the star filled sky, but he hesitated. The voice of Blackbeard rang clearly in his head, 'No messing about on my ship. Relationships are off limits.'
To watch you walk away that night hurt. He wished he had taken the risk. Just once more he wanted to feel your lips against his.
♡♡♡
It was gruesome as fuck. Blood stained the cot under Izzy. His wound wrapped up to the best it can be. Jim and Archie sat on the floor at the end of the bed, Izzy's leg in Jim's hand. You remained beside him, stroking your fingers through his hair.
Your mind was taken back to the night in his cabin where you confessed your feeling toward him. Though it ended horribly, it was still one of the best nights of your life. You'd give anything in the world to love Izzy like that again.
He was looking up at you through hazed eyes. His breathing was a little ragged, but nothing to be concerned over. He did just have his leg cut off.
You stroke your hand through his hair again. He closes his eyes slowly. You almost smile. He's relaxed by your touch. You want to just stay here and look after him. You want to take away every bad thing that's ever happened to him.
Your Izzy.
"We did it? He'll live?" Jim asked.
"50/50 I reckon." Archie replies.
You just gaze at Izzy. You know he'll live. He might not be okay, but he'll live. That's all you can ask for.
"He's very still right now," Archie points out.
"He's relaxed. At ease," you say.
"What's your interest in this guy anyway? He seems like a bit of a dick."
"He is," Jim says. "But he's our dick."
You smile softly. Yeah, that sounds about right.
"There was a time when life meant something on this ship. When we lived for each other. Not just to survive." Jim smiles at Archie. "Guess you never know when you're in the middle of the good old days."
You sigh softly. Yeah, that made sense. Jim was right. Your good old days were with this man right here in your arms. Those were the best days.
Late nights talking under the stars, fighting side by side, stealing coin to go spend on shore for a good time. Always with Izzy at your side.
Jim and Archie kiss. You see it in the corner of your eye. You smile softly to yourself. You'd love to share a kiss with your pirate too, but now isn't the time for that. He needs to rest.
"What was that for?" Jim asks.
"You have hope. It's cute," Archie says.
Again, you smile. Hope. You had almost lost all your hope, but when Izzy was near, you kept hold of it. He was your hope.
"Plus, I really like that story that you told about the wooden demon boy that thirsted for life. Or was it blood? No, I was cleaning up the blood--"
Jim kisses Archie again.
You don't get much time to let them enjoy their moment as heavy footsteps break the peace that has settled in the room.
The hairs stand on the back of your neck at the sound of Blackbeard's voice. The hand holding Izzy's tightens slightly.
Shit.
"What have we got here. Hm?"
"Hey, no one told me this room existed." Frenchie lies.
You gather that Frenchie must have been cornered by Blackbeard. Now he knew Izzy was alive.
You'd die for Izzy if you had to.
"Leave me, all of you." Blackbeard speaks calmly.
Frenchie goes back upstairs, Jim and Archie follow, though Blackbeard has to remind Jim to take the leg too.
You remain seated.
"And you," he says.
You glare at the man, jaw tense as you look at him with a tear filled gaze. You refused to them fall though.
"No."
Blackbeard says your name calmly, but it still sends shivers down your spine.
"He was your friend," you spit at him.
He doesn't look phased.
You turn to look down at Izzy. His head is rolled over to look at you. His eyes are open and you can see the expression in his eyes. You take a deep breath to prevent from crying and slowly let go of Izzy's hand. You shuffle past Blackbeard, who stands too close for comfort, and make your way up the stairs. You'd wait up there.
Izzy missed the warmth of your hand.
♡♡♡
It was after a raid when you retreated below deck to hide away for a while. The raids were constant. Daily. Blackbeard didn't stop. It was exhausting, but you kept on going. Each one worse than the last, and still the crew kept on going.
Sleep was a luxury these days. Every time you closed your eyes the raids replayed in your mind. The feel of your sword piercing through your victim was all too real even in your dreams.
You lay on your bed wide awake, eyes staring up at the ceiling. You could still faintly hear their screams, feel the blood staining your hands, the thumping of bodies hitting the deck. It doesn't seem to ever go away.
Your dark spiral of thoughts is broken by the sound of footsteps. You sit up, half expecting Blackbeard to be there, but you find yourself instantly relieved. Izzy is standing there, looking at you.
"Hey," he whispers.
"Hey," you whisper back.
Izzy comes a little closer. He looks tired, mentally and physically. You wished to take away that tiredness and let him relax for once in his life.
"Couldn't sleep?" You ask. He shakes his head. You pat the space beside you on your bed.
Izzy takes a moment, before joining you. He sits with just enough space between you both not to be touching. Though he wishes he could.
"Izzy?"
He looks over at you with a gentle gaze.
"Do you still love me?"
What a silly question.
"Yes."
You smile. That smile breaks his heart. He wants to scoop you up in his arms and hold you, kiss you, hug you tight. Discovery of affection for you gets him punished.
You look at him with such a soft expression and his heart beats quickly. His fingers twitch on his knee, eager to make contact with you in some form.
Fuck it.
Izzy wraps his arms around you and pulls you in close. His lips land on yours and you're left breathless as he kisses you. His arms feel like home to you, his kiss a saving grace in these dark times.
This is all either of you wanted. To be with each other. To love one another.
"What did I say about relationships?"
Fear fills your body. Neither of you had heard Blackbeard arrive, too caught up in each other. You had been caught. Of all times, it had to be now you were seen.
Blackbeard stands over his first mate, eyes set in a hard glare.
"Take off your boot, Izzy."
♡♡♡
"Have you come to take the other one?" Izzy asks, looking up at Blackbeard. He's full of hatred for this bastard, at least in this very moment.
"I think one's quite enough," Blackbeard says. "I just popped down to say a proper goodbye."
Blackbeard takes a pistol from his belt. He holds it up for Izzy to see.
"I had a dream about you last night." Blackbeard turned the gun in his hand and holds it out to Izzy. "Take it."
"Oh, fuck off."
Blackbeard tried to force him to take it.
"Fuck off. Fuck off!" Izzy shouts.
"Hold it! Hold it."
Izzy takes the gun.
"I dreamt that ya killed me." Blackbeard states. He prepares the pistol in Izzy's hand. "Shot me right through the skull."
Blackbeard moves so the barrel of the gun is aimed right at his forehead.
Izzy grins, his eyes full of spite. "Good for you."
"It was good for me," Blackbeard agrees. "It's just what the doctor ordered. Anyway, it wasn't even like that." He stands up and begins to walk away from the bed. "Not in my dream."
Izzy watches him go silently.
"I was standing." Blackbeard stands with his back facing Izzy. "Just like this." He stretches his arms open a little.
Izzy raises the gun to be in level with Blackbeard's head.
He starts laughing. A humourless laugh.
"Oh! You scared, Eddie?" Izzy asks, mocking him. "Too scared to do it yourself. Ay?" He laughs again. "Go on. Clean up your own fuckin' mess. I'm not doin' it. I've been doin' it all my fuckin' life."
That much is true.
"Fuck off."
"Farewell, old chum."
Blackbeard heads up the stairs. He leaves Izzy down in that horrible little room by himself. Alone with the pistol.
You see Blackbeard emerge from the room. You stand there, staring at him.
A gunshot goes off.
You cover your mouth to prevent yourself from screaming. If Edward is standing right in front of you, and Izzy was alone down in that room, that can only mean Blackbeard left him with a means to end his own misery.
The tears fall and you run toward Ed, but he grabs you and holds you back.
"Last go of me! Let go!" You try to fight him off, but Blackbeard was always stronger than you.
"He's gone."
Blackbeard doesn't let go as you cry out. You scream, you yell at him, you cry. He doesn't let go. He eventually guides you away from the little door and back toward the others.
Your heart had just lost everything it was living for.
♡♡♡
Izzy gazed at you with such a gentle look. You lay next to him, arm draped over his naked chest. The activity you had just shared was still fresh in his mind, replaying over and over. He had done it. He had shown you his love.
His hand gently reached out, his finger caressing your cheek so lightly. You were so... beautiful to him.
He loves you so much. Izzy isn't a man who shares his feelings easily. It doesn't come naturally to him, but he could no longer hide the burning passion he felt for you.
He thought the whole thing between Bonnet and Ed was foolish and a waste of time. But if they felt even a fraction of what he feels for you, then he was so wrong.
No one should be denied this feeling.
The way you felt against him, the warmth of tour skin against his, your thighs squeezing against his body. He wanted to do it all again. His name falling from your lips as you gave him everything he had to offer.
Izzy is a man in love.
That was a dream. Until it wasn't.
Blackbeard reared his head back at the worst time possible. Izzy paid the price for being the one to do it.
He learnt his lesson. Almost.
He wouldn't have changed that night for anything because he still got to spend it with you.
♡♡♡
"Yeah, sorry. I know you said you're expecting a lot from me, Captain." Frenchie is talking to Blackbeard. "But do you wanna do this here or down at the bottom of the ship 'cause I could just jump over and make it easier."
"Listen, if you weren't such a treacherous liar, I wouldn't have had closure with Izzy, so I thank you for that." Blackbeard rests his arm on the helm.
"Yeah, you're welcome. You're welcome." Frenchie is surprised.
"Take the day off, brother. Go live."
"Yeah? Sure you don't want me to any steerings?"
"Nah." Ed removes the tethers from the helm that were keeping it in place. "Do me good to be at the wheel for a bit. Clear my head."
Blackbeard turns the helm sharply around to the right. The ship jerks, knocking everyone unsteady. Frenchie has to hold on as he descends the stairs.
You had been looking out to sea blankly for the last half hour since getting up on deck. Ed just left you there with your thoughts while he spoke to Frenchie.
Fang had come over to ask what had happened. You couldn't find the strength to tell him, but that look in your eye had Fang shaking his head. "No," he repeated over and over. He began to cry too.
As the ship turned, you gripped the tailing harder, steadying yourself. You snap out of your sad thoughts to glance up at your captain. He was resting his head gently atop the helm, looking quite content.
Was he pretending your dead lover wasn't downstairs rotting away in that pit of a room? It made you sick.
You turn your gaze back to the sea. There's a storm ahead, and Ed is sailing right toward it. Fuck.
♡♡♡
"So, do we think he's better?" Fang asks.
"Fuck, no." Jim whispers.
"Well, I don't know about that. He seemed pretty calm to me," Frenchie says.
You look at him with a flat expression. "That's more scary than him lashing out in some cases."
"He said he just wanted to spend more time-" The ship jolts again and everyone goes crashing into the wall. "-with nature." Frenchie finishes his sentence.
"Nature? It's a fucking storm!" You hiss.
Everyone goes up on deck to find Blackbeard soaked through and having the time of his fucking life. The storm is harsh, rain pelting down and leaving not a single dry spot. You're pretty much instantly drenched as you stand there. It's dark and you can't see out to sea very well.
"Hey! Do you want some help, captain?" Frenchie asks.
"No, I'm good!"
"We're sailing into a storm, boss!" Fang says.
"It certainly looks that way, doesn't it, brother?" Ed yells, moving the cannon next to him. "It's a bad one, too. And some maniac got rid of the wheel."
You look up to see the helm gone. You stare at Ed with utter basement and disdain.
The ship rocks violently and everyone has to steady themselves.
"Well, that's the Caribbean for you, isn't it?" Blackbeard asks, enjoying this way too much. "Sunshine one minute, cataracts the next!"
"You'll fuckin' kill us, you fuckin' psycho!" Archie yells.
"Maybe, maybe not! The odds of surviving a storm like this are pretty low and if I fire one into the mast, the chance will go right down to zero!" Ed yells.
"You fucker!" You yell back.
"What do you want?" Jim asks him.
"What do I want? I want you to fight her to the death!" He gestures to Archie.
"Why?"
"That's a bit misogynistic, man."
The ship rock again, getting hit by a horrendous wave. You topple a little closer to where Blackbeard is standing.
"Yeah, probably. All love dies!" He yells. "I'm just hastening the process!"
You state at him in disbelief. "Is that why you... you had Izzy..."
He just looks at you with a grin, his eyes clouded with no sympathy. He wanted to kill off any love on this ship.
"Leave it, man, we're not gonna fight to the death." Jim says.
Archie throws a punch throwing Jim.
"That's more like it!" Ed cheers.
"In my experience, it's kind of how stuff goes, ya know." Archie tells Jim.
Jim and Archie fight.
"Come on! End her! Or I will end us all!" Edward shouts as Jim gets Archie on her back.
You watch the fight unfold, trying to make peace with the end of your life. You never imagined this would be how you go.
"It's okay. It's just life," Archie says to Jim.
"Come on! Do it!"
"Not on my life," Jim says. They help Archie up.
"Aww." Blackbeard is disappointed. "That's too bad!"
"You were gonna do it anyway!" You yell at him.
Blackbeard laughs.
"I was. I was."
He laughs in a manic manner.
Hatred surges through your veins. You push off the railing you were holding on for dear life and lungs at him. He continues to laugh as you grab his arm, making him look your in the eyes.
It was impossible to tell what were tears and what was rain on your face, but he knew you were crying. Your eyes were glossy and red.
The ship jolts again, this wave bigger than the last. Still you manage to hold onto Blackbeard, only slipping slightly.
He continues to laugh.
The crew try to stay on their feet. Someone gets knock overboard and Fang reaches out, but it's too late. The dark water has claimed them in it's hunger for destruction against the ship. Archie and Jim slide down the deck as the water carries them.
"You bastard!" You yell at Edward. "You fucking bastard!!"
He goes to light the cannon with the torch on his free hand. The torch is shot from his hand and he loses balance, you scatter backward, slipping on the deck from the sound of the gunshot. You're soaked from head to toe as you whip your head around the see where the shot came from.
All air leaves your lungs.
More tears mix into the rain on your face. You're gasping for breath.
Izzy stands with one hand clinging to the rope rigging, the other clutches the pistol Ed left him with. He's soaked through, his weight relying on his one leg. A nasty cut on his forehead from where he tried to shoot himself.
He is looking at you.
You can't form a single word. Your only thought is that he's alive. He's right there looking at you. You can't help smiling.
Fuck, you thought you had lost him.
Ed laughs when he sees him.
"You indestructible little fucker!"
That's your Izzy.
Fang lunges at Ed and pins him down. You find your strength and get up onto your feet. You don't hesitate to run toward Izzy. He watches you. You run right into his chest and wrap your arms around his torso. He drops the pistol so he can hold you, keeping you both steady with his other hand.
"You're alive," you whisper into chest. You can feel his heart beating in his chest. "You're alive."
Izzy closes his eyes and buries his nose into your hair, his lips pressing lightly against your temple. The feeling of having you in his arms is one of hope and relief.
He was never going leave you behind with Blackbeard. Never.
You help support Izzy over to where Ed lay on the deck. Fang comes over to help too. Jim, Archie, and Frenchie stare down at the man. He was in a losing battle if he chose to get up.
He didn't. He remained laying there.
Jim raises a cannon ball over their head.
"Finally," Ed laughs.
Jim drops the ball.
You look up at Izzy, hand pressed against his chest to help keep him upright. He looks at you.
The crew is free from Blackbeard.
You're both free from Blackbeard.

Wait wait leg prosthetics?! I know its a big headcanon (which i love) but is it confirmed?? Did i miss it in the episode hrgrgrhr
oh my god anon hello !
ITS ALSO A HEADCANON I LIKE SO I WAS SO HAPPY TO SEE THIS ON MY TWITTER FEED
spoilers below!
every since i saw the promo art, before the first ep dropped, i KNEW his ankles were too thin to be human. this had to be prosthetics, or he really doesnt work out his leggies somehow lol. but then during episode 11, today's [03/18/23] ep, someone pointed out this
Tumblr media
mechanical leggies! it looks like the one on the left reaches above the knee, mid thigh height. and the one of the right stops at the knee joint. that is just my guess from this image so i may be wrong. idk much about prosthetics and amputations or anything like that. but i think its interesting that they end/start at different lengths !
It is hard to miss, in between his memory manipulation and Knives' whole deal, so I don't blame anyone for missing it. I didn't notice it either lol
it makes me wonder what happened in the last 130ish years for him to lose two more limbs. and clearly, if im right, he could've lost his legs during two different instances. but yes! it looks to be prosthetics!

Outlander 7x05 Easter Eggs and Spoilers - “Singapore”
Tumblr media
Spoilers below the cut!
Singapore is the name of this episode, and it opens with goats on a cliff face. This is in reference to the Highlander’s whom fight for the British, we later find out. The title is a direct reference to the battle of Singapore and the attack of the Japanese, which Claire describes to Jamie as a parallel with the impending attack on the fort, which informs his actions for the episode.
Lallybroch
Gem and Mandy are playing in a graveyard, as Mandy wanted to talk to Jamie. Jemmy tells Bree that Jamie told him to leave him a stone and built him a cairn if he ever came to Lallybroch. I try very hard to tolerate Sophie’s acting but she’s so wooden at times. Other times she’s fine (mainly in the more emotional scenes) but her line delivery is quite hard to swallow sometimes. She has changed her pronounciation of ‘Da’ like 4 times now, and that’s hard for me to ignore.
Roger and Bree read another letter from Jamie and Claire. The letter is dated June 18, 1777, which is our ONLY way of knowing the timeline and how much time has passed between episodes. In it, Claire writes that Jamie continues to dream about the children and Bree reveals she’s been to the fort before with Frank. Her and Roger decide not to look at the history books and find out what happened there.
Before Bree heads to work, these two have another attempt at a romantic scene that doesn’t quite land (a hard hat in bed and his hands down her pants just made me uncomfortable). These two try but they just don’t have it!!!! And I think Richard Rankin could if he wasn’t opposite Sophie, as he is a great actor.
Jemmy gets off the bus from school and Roger follows him into his hide out (which I think is referenced in the books as a place Fergus used to play). Roger tries to talk to him about it and Jemmy says he got in trouble at school for defending their family in Gaelic. This child actor playing Jemmy is so great!!! He’s doing such a good job!
Ticonderoga
They have now been there for months, and Jamie once again organically finds himself leading men, this time they refer to themselves as ‘Fraser’s Irregulars.’ Claire is practicing medicine under Lieutenant Stactoe, and the fort is under the command of Saint Clair. We also meet General Formoy (who is mirroring the ignorance of the Bonny Prince). Ian has reunited with them as well.
Sugarloaf hill is mentioned as a point the English can attack from. For those unfamiliar with the location of Fort Ticonderoga, it sits on the edge of the New York and Vermont boarders, along a narrow portion of Lake Champlain. The fort is surrounded by water on three sides, and as of now it doesn’t look like there is a Sugarloaf hill near the site. There’s a sugarloaf ski mountain in Maine, though!
Jamie has a dejavuex moment with Formoy when he uses his knowledge to advice against an attack and is found denied and insulted, akin to a goat for being Scottish (like the episode preview implies). Jamie is once again being sidelined and watching history repeat itself with the ignorance of leaders like Formoy and the Bonnie Prince (and simultaneously history is…happening? But where they know the outcome, could you consider that history repeating itself?).
Denzel Hunter and Claire finally meet towards the end of the episode and the two of them help a man named Walter Woodcock together. It’s the dream team finally united! They successfully opperate on Mr. Woodcock and amputate his leg, but only after Denny so kindly recognizes Claire’s struggle to be taken seriously and back door allows for her to help him.
The Hunters and William
Denzel makes a comment about attending medical school in London via a distant relative after their parents died. Their mother died in childbirth having Rachel, and their father died a few years later in a flood having drown. The Quakers who took them in made that connection for Denzel when they learned of a shared last name Hunter, so this scene hammers home the importance of their Meeting (and reminds us that they are now kicked out).
William and Denzel debate over morals and how Denzel can be within his beliefs while practicing medicine. They come upon a man on the road who offers them a place to stay for the night and they are fed a disgusting meal of rat stew. William is shown the realities of the war and he and Rachel speak outside. In the few short scenes they’ve had you can tell William has a crush on her, which is exactly how the books describe their relationship from Williams internal monologue.
While sleeping, the Johnsons attempt to attack William, Denny and Rachel with knives and William is able to show his strength and skills as a fighter. Charles is such a great casting, as he is every bit the young man described in the book and his size and strength is akin to Jamie’s. The Johnson’s have evidently done this many times before so to steal from un expecting visitors.
William feels guilt over taking that man’s life and tells Rachel that he’d never killed anyone before. This scene you can see Jamie’s heart come through in him. He has a flurry of feelings about it that he cannot sort through and worries that Rachel might think less of him due to her beliefs but she reassures him she knows him well enough to know he did it to save them.
When they part William tells them to ask for his uncle should they run into trouble. He gives them the money from Ian and keeps the rosary beads. When Rachel watches him leave with fond eyes Denny reminds her that he is a British soldier, and violence follows men like that. There’s a sweet scene between the siblings where Denny gives Rachel an out, but she insists they stay together.
Loch Errochry
The Land Rover Bree and her boss drive around in is a dream, I want one. The setting is also stunning, having driven through the highlands last year it’s still so hard to believe that country looks like that. Bree meets her new male employees including Rob Cameron (!!!). He immediately locks her into the tunnel like a jackass and Bree discovers the light they gave her has no batteries. She quickly lights a match and finds some lights and proceeds to inspect the tunnel. I’d be clostrophobic down there and it feels like something out of a nightmare watching her walk through the tunnels.
She hears buzzing halfway down and a weird blue light at the end that she has to walk through (the graphics are strange but hey, hard to depict what was written) and it leads her to her escape. It’s implied that somewhere in the tunnel may be a portal for time travel.
Bree tells the kids at dinner about being trapped in the tunnel and how she escaped but you can tell she’s still unsettled by the event. Her and Roger step away from the table to discuss it. She’s worried the men are never going to respect her and Roger reminds her Claire did it at Harvard. A bit of a turn around from him being slightly sexist last episode about her working in general.
While in the office they uncover a hidden drawer in the desk and he gifts her a pen. Doesn’t undo his comments from last episode but that’s just me, and his insistence on her wearing knickers and a hard hat needs to stahhhhhp.
Bree heads to the bar where the men and Rob Cameron are hanging out and tries to awkwardly earn their respect. They all try and play it off as a joke and she tries to insert her dominance. Sophie also can’t say the word “anything” without a Scottish accent.
Young Ian
Joseph Brant of the Mohawk is at Shadow Lake and Ian is recruited to deliver a letter to him. Ian is reluctant because of personal reasons. He asks Claire how baby’s come to be and why he was unable to get his Mohawk wife pregnant. His belief is that his spirit was not strong enough and fears he cannot get a woman pregnant again and would refuse to take another wife. He tells Claire that Jamie told him about sperm and asks her to look at his (had to laugh). When asked, Ian tells her Iseabell was perfect and not deformed, but Claire has a Frank conversation to help Ian understand that it’s not a matter of his spirit but science and gives him renewed hope he may be able to have a child with another woman one day.
When he arrives at the Mohawk camp he sees Emily, who is happy to see him. She tells him she now has two children and is happy. Ian seems to finally be at peace with that, and asks to meet her son (who does not look Mohawk). He tells Ian that Emily’s mother tells him he’s the child of his spirit. Ian gives him the name Ian James and I’m sat here smiling like a fool over how cute that scene was.
Simon Fraser
One of the few scenes we get with Claire and a Jamie this episode, Jamie tells Claire that a Simon Fraser is one of Burgoyne brigadiers on the side of the British. Book readers will know that he is a ticket home to Scotland for them later on, and Jamie tells her it is not the same Simon Fraser she met in season 2 but not the old fox or his son but one of Jamie’s second cousins from Balnain (located outside of Inverness, not far from Loch Ness). It is also now understood that with their troops low on supplies they will need to attack the fort sooner than later. Jamie knows that a Fraser in the camp, the troops will know well enough to attack from higher ground as Highlanders do.
Jamie brings Formoy and the men to higher ground to show them that it is possible to the English can reach them by cannon, and once again finds himself standing across an incompetent soldier (with a terrible accent). These scenes are so short and choppy, and for that I dislike them. It’s not enough time with Jamie (or Claire for that matter) before we are abruptly switched over to another character. The atmosphere of them walking around at the Fort was palpable in the books, and we are missing it so far in the show sadly.
Later on the British set up shop in the exact place Jamie warned of, and Jamie uses his knowledge how Highlander warfare to help lead an evacuation by boat. Claire won’t allow Walter Woodcock to leave the fort because his injury is still too fresh, and sadly has to leave him. She tells him due to his injury the British will have to show him mercy, but also gives him laudanum. I was surprised she didn’t outright show him how to use it if he needed to drift off to sleep. The civilians are all put into boats in the lake and the fort is abandoned. The next sequence of events in the books is fairly action packed so I’m curious how they go about it all next episode.
Ian and Rachel
When Ian returns to the fort, he spots Rachel. A critique I have of this season is that they make the traveling seem so fast, and it’s incredibly hard to keep track of time passed. Ian was just in Virginia, now he’s suddenly back in New York. That said, these two have great chemistry without even trying, and Ian let’s Rachel know Claire is his aunt. It’s implied they will be seeing much more of one another, thankfully. I think the actors have done a great job of establishing the differences between Rachel and Ian and Rachel and William - Izzy plays Rachel differently around Ian and it’s great work on her part.
In the End
Roger goes out into the dark to search for the Nucklavee and we see a camera angle from across the yard watching the front door of the house. I suspect next episode we will actually set eyes on Buck for the first time.
The episode ends when Bree goes to the graveyard to talk to Jamie and brings him a stone. She tells him about her new job, buying Lallybroch, etc. and it fades to black (a weak ending and my least favorite thus far). Nothing happens this episode action wise, and it was mainly an episode used for establishing upcoming plot. The pacing is getting really bad in that such large expanses of tiem are not being explained. How in one episode did Jamie have two conversations about Sugarloaf Hill and the British Invasion, and The Hunters / William Travel by Horse to New York from Virginia, Ian leave camp to go see Emily and return…it’s so many moving parts and it’s not clear how they all make sense. Even having read the books I’m getting confused with how they are choosing to speed things up.
I will say this until I’m blue in the face, but this show works best when Claire and Jamie are together and on screen, and every time I dislike an episode it’s in large part due to a lack of them. That can be said with this episode, but I’m optimistic we will see much more of them next episode thanks for the preview.
Episode 6 Preview
Preview for episode 6 shows what looks to be an action filled attack on the Fort - we see Jamie attacking British soldiers, William in a red coat again, Roger running into the yard angrily, and Ian and Rachel getting closer. Lots of good things that I hope we get proper screen time to dissect.

Why 'Black Sails' Is Still Worth a Watch
These pirates' lives made for some great television.
Tumblr media
(Spoiler alert for people haven't watch!)
The Big Picture
Black Sails is an underrated pirate series that serves as a prelude to the novel Treasure Island.
The show explores the origins of Captain Flint and John Silver, and their journey from noblemen to pirates.
The series features an ensemble of real-life pirates, has a prolific cast, and delves into darker and more introspective themes than other pirate shows.
Pirates make for great entertainment. From the swashbuckling thrills of the Pirates of the Caribbean films to the animated antics of One Piece, and recent hit shows like Our Flag Means Death, buccaneers and their battles on the high seas have provided a wealth of stories for screens large and small. One of the most underrated pirate stories happens to be the Starz series Black Sails. Over the course of four seasons, a gripping narrative of blood and betrayal was woven.
Created by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine, Black Sails was crafted to fill the void left by Starz's previous heavy hitter Spartacus. And much like the Rome-set series, Black Sails features an ensemble cast and drew inspiration from another creative work. In this case, the show serves as a prelude to the novel Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, and focuses on two characters from the novel: Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and new crew member John Silver (Luke Arnold). While other prequels to famous works feel the need to explain every little detail that surrounds the preceding source material, Black Sails takes a different path and explores how its pirates came to be the men they are.
Captain Flint and John Silver Are at the Center of This Swashbuckling Story
Tumblr media
In the second season, Flint is revealed to have turned from a nobleman's life to that of a pirate following the imprisonment and death of his lover Thomas Hamilton. Adding salt in the wound is the death of Thomas' wife Miranda, which pushes Flint over the edge. Throughout the series, he attempts to gather his fellow pirates into a force that will rival the British fleets; he also tracks down and kills those who wronged him. By the series finale, Flint has finally won his war and becomes the ruler of the pirate nation Nassau. Stephens portrays Flint with a quiet intensity that often boils over into bloodlust and/or rage given who he interacts with.
During his quest, Flint must deal with Silver, who often schemes against him and ultimately winds up betraying him in order to gain a greater share of the gold hidden in the Spanish ship known as Urca de Lima, which drives the plot of the first two seasons. However, over the course of the series, Silver grows to be a loyal ally to Flint and the crew of the Walrus, and uses his schemes to help them survive. True to the book, Silver suffers extreme torture in Season 2 that forces him to have his leg amputated — but even though he has a peg leg, it doesn't make him any less dangerous.
'Black Sails' Explored the Lives of Real-Life Pirates and Deeper Themes
Tumblr media
Black Sails was also notorious for introducing several real-life pirates into its narrative. Chief among them was Blackbeard (Ray Stevenson), who goes by his real name of Edward Teach. Teach enters into a partnership with Flint and the other pirates when they seek to retake Nassau from Captain Woodes Rogers (Luke Roberts), who Teach wants revenge against for reasons initially unknown. Stevenson is utterly terrifying as Teach; he towers over everyone and even defeats Flint in a sword fight — when Flint is the one who challenged him! Other real-life pirates include Zach McGowan as Charles Vane, Toby Schmitz as Jack Rackham (otherwise known as "Calico Jack"), and Clara Paget as Anne Bonny.
Black Sails contains what may be one of the most prolific ensemble casts for a cable series; each member went on to star in more genre fare. Tom Hopper, who portrayed Billy Bones, is a major part of The Umbrella Academy on Netflix. Jessica Parker Kennedy, who plays Max, made an appearance on The Flash as Barry Allen's daughter Nora. Stephens has appeared in the James Bond film Die Another Day, as well as Netflix's Lost in Space. Stevenson has been in all sorts of genre fare including Ahsoka (in his final performance), Punisher: War Zone, Thor, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation. This is another thing it shares in common with Spartacus, as that show has seen many of its alums go on to alternate genre fare (none likely more famous than Lucy Lawless, who defined early genre TV when she played a certain warrior princess).
Black Sails stood out from other pirate series by going into darker places, especially where its characters were concerned. Though Flint was the protagonist, he'd commit cold-blooded murder, especially if anyone crossed him. Betrayals were second nature; one minute two of the pirates could be allies and the next they'd be at each other's throats. And for all the blood, sex, and swearing, the series was rather introspective; it explored the mental cost Flint's past took on him, and was willing to question whether or not he could truly find peace. Black Sails was definitely a series ahead of its time, not just in pirate media but in genre storytelling on the whole, and the map it laid out would lead to many similar elements playing out in shows that would soon follow, like Game of Thrones and The Witcher.
Black Sails is available to stream on Starz.
Note from admin: Black Sails coming to Netflix US on 1st January, stay tuned!

OFMD Season Timeline
(Obvi season 2 spoilers)
TL; DR: there’s like a month in between episode 5 and 6.
This ended up being a little longer than I planned but there’s pics you can stare at longingly, so that helps, right?
I’ve seen a lot of people assuming that each episode of the show is like the next day and so Stede and Ed having sex would have happened like a day after they agreed to go slow.
But I think it had to have been at least a a couple of weeks and here’s why:
Remember how Ed had to wear the bag (and collar) of shame until people felt comfortable around him?
Tumblr media
In episode 6 Ed is back in his regular clothes and everyone seems much more comfortable around him. When Jim and Frenchie approach him and Stede about the party, they even greet them as “captains” (plural), which I sincerely doubt they would have done if they still hated him.
Tumblr media
Additionally when Ed and Stede walk into the party, everyone greets them both with drinks and happiness. The animosity, jumpiness, and fear seem to have been resolved or put aside.
Tumblr media
This wouldn’t have happened in a short period after everything the crew went through. I know Olu, Jim and Archie were more chill about his return later in episode 5, but it wasn’t the friendliness and camaraderie we see here.
I take episode 6 to have happened at least 1-2 weeks, if not longer after 5. Personally I don’t think I’d get over someone trying to kill me that quickly, but hey, I’m not a pirate.
Additionally, let’s talk about our favorite unicorn for a second:
This is Izzy’s scar in episodes 5 and then 7 (taking place the day after 6)
Tumblr media
Waaaaaaay too healed for just a day or even 2. I’ve had numerous surgeries. My scars from surgery 3 weeks ago haven’t even shown that level of improvement. I get Unicorns are magical, but he isn’t Buttons.
Additionally, the way Izzy is so relaxed around Ed… no way has it only been a day. He just got his leg amputated, what like a week before 5? He shouldn’t even be walking on his unicorn leg at that point (but we will ignore that because he and the leg are beautiful). The scene with Izzy and Ed is calm and bitchy in the way you are with siblings and old friends when you get over a small fight. I feel like it might take a little longer to forgive or even be in the presence of the person who tortured you and your crew and took your leg (among other things).
He also tells Stede that he sees how good he and Ed are for each other. That it took a long time to realize it but he does. When did he realize this? In the middle of a storm they thought would kill them? While he was passed out during an amputation? During his bender in episode 4?
That’s all me projecting, I know. Let’s be honest that’s what meta posts like these are a lot of the time (but god I love them).
The only episodes that seem to be exactly a day apart are 3, 4, and 5. And obviously 6 and 7.
So TL; DR: there’s like a month in between episode 5 and 6.
Any additional timeline things you have for season 1 or 2 are great!
Edit: someone pointed out Pete and Lucius’ 24 hour sex spree after getting engaged and this shoots my theory, but maybe they’ve done multiple sprees?
Idk the relationships between all of them are so much more comfortable now and too quickly if it really has been only a day. It kind of feels like we’re missing an episode in between 5 & 6 that would have transitioned everything more smoothly. I still blame this entirely on HBO cutting 2 episodes and not on the writers who were trying to work with what they had.

<3<3<3
He woke up in his childhood home, he furrowed his eyes at the surroundings and sat up, confused at how he fell asleep on the couch, and the TV buzzed from the heat. The kids channel was inactive as it tended to be late at night. He was remembering things that he hadn’t seen in years. He sat up and went to wobble his way around the building before both feet landed on the carpet.
He paused, noticing both legs in tact, then realising his arm was too. “It’s a dream.” He said plainly, realising what was happening. He began to make his way towards the kitchen, the bright light seeping down the hallway and into the dark lounge room.
“Jamison!” The tall blonde woman called out to him.
“...Ma?” He looked at her confused and she handed him a plate full of meat and vegetables.
“I was wondering when you’d wake up, tea was about to go cold.” She smiled warmly at him, all he could really do was smile weakly back. “Something the matter?”
“Uh.. Nah, nah.” He hesitated.
He’d dreamed of his mother before but not quite to this much extent. Not this much detail, it was uncanny how real it felt.
“Dinner looks good.”
She placed her plate of food on the bench and put a hand on his face. “You look so grown up.” She frowned at him slightly.
“What?” He was taken back and put his plate on the bench too.
“How long has it been?”
He froze for a minute. “Close to fifteen years.” She kept rubbing her thumb over his cheek before he pulled her hand away.
“That’s a long time.” She laughed softly. “What’s happened?”
He furrowed his eyebrows and shrugged casually. “Not much.. Lost my leg.. Lost my arm.. Survived the Omnic Crisis.”
She grabbed his now in-tact amputated arm and ran her hands over his forearm. “That must’ve been hard.”
“It was.”
He was a little uneasy about how she somehow knew which arm was gone. They just stood there in silence for a long period of time.
“Is this real?” Jamie laughed awkwardly. “It’s just a dream, right?”
She looked up at him and a moment’s silence passed over them and a sense of knowing filled the air.
“I’ve missed you.” She said softly.
“I’ve missed you too but how.. How are you..?”
“I bet you’ve done great things since I’ve been gone.”
He pressed his lip into a fine line at her changing the topic but then frowned at the knowledge that she would not be proud of her son if she knew of all the awful things he’s done.
“I don’t know about that..”
“What have you been up to?” She responded casually, as if making small talk with a friend you see once a month.
“I’m a criminal now.” He shrugged with a nervous laugh. “I make a lot of money and.. It makes me happy, I’ve met a lot of good people through it. I’ve travelled the world.” He rambled a little, almost like he was trying to sell a product.
“If it makes you happy, then I’m proud of you.” She sounded faintly disappointed yet still felt genuinely proud of him for finding what makes him happy and finding people that he loved.
“You’re not.. Upset?”
“I think I can understand why things happened the way they did.” She placed a reassuring hand on his arm. “You’ll always be my baby, no matter what. I don’t think it makes you a bad person for trying to survive.”
There’s another long gap of silence, both not sure what to say next.
“Tell me about your friends.”
“Ah, my friends?” He hesitated. “Where do I even start?”
“Tell me about the big one.” She smiled.
“Roadhog? His names Mako but he don’t like when we call him that. He’s my best friend, he’s basically like a brother. He’s been there for almost everything, thick and thin, y'know? He's the only person who I can really count on.”
“And the other one?”
“Y/n.. They’re.. Well. I'm lucky to have ‘em, I think you'd love ‘em too. Y’know, in a strange way, they remind me a lot of you. They’re both really important to me and I’m grateful to have them.”
Silence lingers in the air once again, an awkward stillness of uncertainty. What do you even say in this situation? What could you possibly talk about?”
“So.. There’s an afterlife?” She stayed silent. “Why’d it take you so long to visit? Why are you suddenly visiting me now?”
“I think you know why.” A lot of ideas raced through his head, so many possibilities on why. She spoke plainly with a slight sentiment of sadness at the end of her words. “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
She wrapped her arms around his torso and pulled him into a tight embrace. He hesitated but hugged her back, savouring the moment.
“I think it’s time for you to wake up.” She said softly.
“I don’t want to yet.” He said as she pulled out of the hug and kissed his forehead.
He jumped awake with a loud gasp. I was leaning over him with my hand resting on his shoulder. “Jamie? Are you okay?”
“Huh?”
“You’re crying.”
He wiped his face in a hurry with his hand and attempted to with his bicep.
“I’m fine just.. Realising some stuff.” He smiled up at me warmly though it was clear something happened to upset him.
“You can talk to me, you know?”
“I know.” He continued to smile. I handed him a water bottle and smiled back at him. “I’ll tell you about it later. Just gotta think on it.”

Sword gays showdown, round 1 of bracket one
Propaganda:
For Raya:
she travels her kingdom to find a way to save her father and people from shadow monsters and is very good with a sword. Technically not a *canon* lesbian but the subtext between her and Namaari is strong, Raya calls her a word that translates to 'beautiful' and her VA also believes she's gay.
He later “trains” with the sword shirtlessly, surrounded by candles, in front of said dude.
he's a wet cat

i am so. sick and tired. of women's armpits and legs being completely bare in the most impossible situations in movies/tv shows.
alone in the wilderness, fighting for her survival, full of cuts and bruises, yet somehow her pits are immaculately baby-smooth? in the middle of a dystopian apocalypse, eating nothing but canned beans and running from violent gangs, but she still finds the extra time and ressources to make sure her legs aren't even prickly?
the most recent occurence that incited this post was archie in our flag means death (spoilers for episode 3 ahead). i really love this show, i really do, it means a LOT to me. but that moment where they were imprisoned and archie's armpit was so perfect-looking? i got so annoyed again. "here we go again", i thought.
Tumblr media
archie is a pirate, one that doesn't mind making out with someone who has a freshly amputated leg in their arms while they are both cover in blood, even on their faces. here we have a woman who was, a few hours before (exact timeline unclear), eating seagull guts raw. by that point the ship crew were kind of adrift and pretty mentally unstable.
do we really think it plausible that archie would have put the time and effort into removing something that is completely normal & not much of a nuisance and will inadvertently grow back? and even if she would have, she had a damn smooth armpit. that would have been like freshly shaved that morning.
i know, there is something uncomfortable and kind of wrong about discussing a woman's body this way. and ultimately, this is a show that purposefully does not make things "historically accurate" and focuses on humour while still breaking a lot of bigoted narratives. there could have also been reasons, like the actress didn't want to put on fake body hair or it was a statement that i am not aware of.
i guess i have just seen too much enforcement of this "beauty" standard in cinema in moments where it is completely illogical that i just finally had to write something.
if anyone can share with me movies/shows where there are women that even have body hair, i am glad for recommendations! (including underground lesbian art movies.)

I mentioned this in the live chat when Ep 110 of Jrwi Riptide was happening but I also want to mention it here
[]Spoilers[]
Gillion with a prosthetic tail.
In the feywild Arc, when they were seeing themselves in the 'future' mirror, Jay had a robotic leg, and in episode 110, her leg gets badly injured (obviously hinting to future amputation) so what if when it's happening gillion asks for a prosthetic tail.
My idea for this is because some triton do have tails, but it's also because I love the idea of gillion having a prosthetic tail / seeing gillion with a tail in fanart. It also makes me have the idea of him getting a prosthetic so jay doesn't feel left out or him feeling left out since Chip dose connanicly have a robotic pinky.
