So I'm writing historical fiction, set in Medieval Eastern Rome. My problem is that most characters share the same few names. Even family names and titles lack diversity. I can't really change them, since they are historical, so it gets very confusing when you have 5 characters named Alexios, 2 of which share a family name and title. How do I deal with this?
Characters with Same Name in Historical Fiction
So, here's where a few things are going to come in handy...
1 - The "Fiction" part of "historical fiction." - Since you're not writing non-fiction, you have the abilities to take liberties for the sake of the story you're trying to tell, which includes the purpose of clarity.
2 - Understanding naming conventions - Every language and culture have their own conventions surrounding given names, nicknames, clan names, diminutives, and patronymics... so it's important to understand how these worked in the time and setting of your historical fiction. Because even if we know a historical person as Phineas Smythe, that doesn't mean he was known that way back in the day. He might instead have been known as Phineas Smythson.
3 - Understanding Anglicization - This is another one that can play a big role, because (for example) Phineas is the Anglicized version of Phinehas, so maybe back in the day, he was known not as Phineas Smythe as we know him, but as Phinehas Smythson.
All of this is important to know because it can help you come up with ways of differentiating same-named characters without completely renaming them. So, let's say for example your story spans a century, and you have two Phineas Smythes... a grandfather and his grandson. If you dig into the naming conventions and find that the older Phineas Smythe actually went by Phinehas Smythson, that immediately differentiates the two characters. Alternatively, you might learn that a common diminutive in the older Phineas's time and place was to add the affix "-ian" to a male name. So he could have gone by Phinian Smythe while his grandson just goes by Phineas Smythe.
Nicknames in general can be a handy way of differentiating two same-named historical characters, even if you have to take liberties to get there. Maybe the older Phineas Smythe went by Finny. Or maybe he was called "Bear" because of his bear-like size. Or, maybe he didn't but you say he was for the sake of clarity.
When you're not dealing with different generations, another option is to combine people. For example, maybe you have two Phineas Smythes who are minor courtiers of the king, but one Phineas has a bigger role in the story. Can you just combine them into one person instead of having two? Again, because this is historical fiction, it doesn't have to be 100% accurate... it's not non-fiction. You want to be as accurate as possible, and make sure your changes don't change things too much or completely garble someone's understanding of an historical event. But, ultimately, you're writing fiction based on history so you need to prioritize clarity over fact.

You were contemplating what to do when the bedrooms door opened and Phineas came inside with Iselt. You wanted to scream on him... To slap him.. to ask him why he did this to you?? But you didn't wanted Iselette to be scared for ever from you.
You bottled up the pain inside your heart as you didn't gave the two any glance .. turning away from them you laid down to sleep. Your tears soaking the pillow and you sniffled to stop your voice come out of your mouth.
You heard little Islet's voice.. she sounded so so sad that you wanted to kiss her and hug her.
"Is mamma sick today??is she angry with me ??"
She was asking questions to Phineas who was trying to tell her it was ok.
"Your mother is just a little tired Iselette , it's ok today daddy would tell you the story "
"Why is mamma tired??"
"Cause she needs rest "
"Why??"
"Cause she is nursing your younger sibling inside her.."
"W.."
"Now stay quite mommy needs rest.."
You heard Phineas say in a strict voice .He was looking at your laying form when you suddenly hugged Iselette and started to sob in her back. Phineas was looking at you with dark eyes as you laid down on the bed with Iselette in your arms hugging her close.... away from his side of the bed.

You were 17 at that time when you transmitted to this place... you didnt knew where you were it was by chance that you meet him.... He was 29 at the time and you fall for him so hard.... he always looked after you, treated you so sweetly, and kindly and always protected you. Your parents and his parents fixed his marriage with you .
You Can't even tell how happy you were but that happiness didn't last long. one day you were going to meet him ,when you saw him hugging another girl and the drawing her closer to him and kissing her lips ...you broke down.
You when you meet him again alone after you annualed the marriage between you two...you asked him why? but he didn't said anything other than that he didn't want you to be his wife.... from that day on You two who were inseparable; separated so badly that he didn't saw again and till now until now.

You were one of the best tutors in the kingdom for young ladies. Madam Gloria sent you a personal request and invitation to come and tutor Iselette and be her nanny . At first you were not comfortable... But then your father said that because now you are already engaged to someone else and getting married soon it would be fine.
Plus it was an honour to be requested at the Lapion's estate. So you accepted the request. You can't even say how much your were heart broken to find out that Phineas had become a father... Did he really married that woman??? Were you really nothing to him??
You can't say why but you sighed in relief when you were told that Iselette is not his biological daughter. You started to soon teach her.. she was a very good child. Cute and kind.. you always thought about the possibility of your child with him....
But then you used to reprimand yourself.... That no... It's not right... He already had kicked you out once... And then again... You have a fiance... Who is so sweet... And neither you can ever forget the insult ... So you focused yourself on teaching Islet.. what you haven't noticed was the way Phineas used to drink your every move...
The way he used to oogal you .....the way he used to look, at what ever you used to do. He would look .. drink your moves ... Even Pereshati used to think what's the matter. For her too you were so sweet..like a mother to Iselette... But she have noticed how you ignored that praise if she used to give it to you.

It's was first time you asked for audience from Madam Gloria. It's was that your fiance wanted to get married to you fastly...When you asked for leave from her Madam Gloria and Therdeo looked very troubled .. and Phineas left the room suddenly..
When Madam Gloria tried to confront you that she wants you to be Phineas's wife you rejected harshly.. you said you are already someone's else soon to be wife and that you are too young for him and don't want to make more troubles. In the evening even Pereshati and Celphius tried to talk to you about not leaving... But you were just so persistence that you don't want to join Lapelion family.
At last after too much trouble with a heavy heart Madam Gloria accepted to let you go.

Tomorrow you would leave for your house you thought laying down on the bed as you have finished the packing.. soon there was a knock on your door and you opened it.. it was Pereshati and Therdeo they said they wanted to have a last meal with you and you accepted.
Dinner was going smoothly but suddenly I'm middle of the dinner Iselette asked you why are you going... when you told her that you are going back to your home to marry you heard Phineas growl at you.
"you really are that hungry for money..that you accepting to be the wife of someone you don't even know ..A literal old man... "
He asked.You were shocked... How did he found out??
You never told any of them who you are going to marry or any other thing... you were so scared and hurt by the fact... How dare he spy on you?? You stood upto leave for your room but your head started to spin as you fall into someone's arms.. last thing you saw was Phineas's glasses.

The first time he saw you was when you were 4 ... He was 15 at that time. Like any child you were cute and sweet.. he loved to play with you.. you always looked for him... He was your favourite.. you even asked him while playing once if he would marry you..

He only wanted you.. the way you used to flutter your eyelashes at him trying to get his attention... It gets him hard out of nowhere... he was so very persistant to Marry you.. but.....then he saw the deaths in his family due to curse... The hurt ..the pain...
He was a coward that he backed off... He didn't wanted to loose you... You are the only good thing that happened to him in so far.. he don't want you to die.. because of his family curse... That's why he made a plan to make you hate him..
He was knowing that you would come to meet him that day ...that's why he acted like he was in affair with another woman... That's why when you slapped him and asked him crying... He rejected you.. only to keep you safe...
But now that they had know how to keep the curse in control...now that they may find a possibile cure ...and now that he can easily have you in his arms ... You are so stubborn!!! Trying to leave him!!! Marry an old man who is as old as your father!!!! Can't you see you can just destroy your life by marrying your fiance???
His mother and nephew and even Pereshati are trying to talk senses into you but you are just so damn persistant!!! Leaving him no choice but to claim you forcefully.... To drug you to bound you to him!!
He was thrusting into your half wake body as you were in half consciousness trying to push him away by your palm on his chest. Your marriage with you fiance was dissolved. Madam Gloria was showing you the budget and asking you what else you want in your marriage venue... As Phineas was sitting beside you rubbing his palm lovingly on your swollen belly.

As he sweetly pats your head. Pereshati and Therdeo both blushed at the show of affection as Madam Gloria coughed telling the others to leave you two alone for some quality time. Phineas carried you to the bed after he read a story for you and Iselette..
For the time being Iselette was having her own bed room which she was really happy to have.. now that she was told that you would never leave them and always stay there with her and that you are going to be her mother. Plus her happiness was more elevated when she was told that she was going to have a small baby brother.
She would come to you daily with small tinkerets to decorate your belly with as you would smile at her and let her do it. After Therdeo told you the truth for why he did that to you in the past and that he never had any affair with anyone. Your heart has started to melt for him..
Yes the way he took you was very wrong but.. how can you blame him alone...

"Ummm they toned down the abuse from Gabe in Percy Jackson because it's a kids show, stop being mad about it"
Ignoring the fact that it's also a children's book, let's take a look at some children's media in the last couple decades that depict parental abuse towards children that isn't physical, but still makes the abuse feel real:
1. Harry Potter. I'm loathe to even put it on here bc of how much I hate JKR, but HP DOES depict child abuse in probably one of the best ways of any modern media. As far as I can remember (correct me if I'm wrong), the Dursley's never lay a hand on Harry. But it is never even questioned if they're awful people towards Harry - they literally make him sleep in a closet.
2. Matilda. Like do I even need to explain this one? Abuse from not only her whole family (again, NONE of it physical from what I recall), but also from other authority figures. And she's not the only character who deals with parental abuse - Miss Honey is a grown adult shown to be dealing with the negative effects of an abusive parental figure.
3. Phineas and Ferb. Laugh all you want, but Doofenshmirtz's parents were genuinely awful to him. His stories are just tamed down in a way that's palpable to a much younger audience while still also being clear abuse - a young child can chuckle at his stories but STILL understand why maybe some of his stories would turn him evil.
4. Avatar the Last Airbender. Zuko's father physically disables his own son. Not to mention the constant emotional neglect and manipulation on top of it, the writers never held back on how bad his father was. Even if he hadn't scarred Zuko, he would still be a clear depiction of an abusive parent.
5. The Willoughbys. The parents are so awful that the kids literally plot to murder them. The parents abandoned them to freeze to death on top of a mountain. Enough said.
6. Percy fucking Jackson.
Percy Jackson IS a book made for kids that depicts child abuse from a parent - and not only does it depict child abuse, it depicts spousal abuse.
I know Percy doesn't know that Gabe is physically hurting Sally in the beginning of the book. But we as the audience know that Gabe DOES hurt Percy. There is not a single sign in the new show that Percy has anything more than a snarky, annoyed view of Gabe.
Gabe is supposed to be smelly and disgusting, a drunk (which, even if they can't depict that in a Disney show, you can still play around with his grossness), a slob, and a gambler. He's barely even greasy in the show. Literally they could have just had him belch a few times or eat messily and it would have given off a better impression of his character. Instead, he just quips back and forth with Percy and then later is just...whining. He's whiney. He does not ring as a man who abuses his family, emotionally OR physically, he rings as a pathetic step-dad figure who can't support himself (which is ALSO not canon, because in the book he runs an auto store! His abuse towards Sally is not for lack of money, it's just because he's a dick!!!) The fact that I think that Doof's parents in Phineas and Ferb are more overtly abusive than him on screen is actually absurd.
And Sally fell flat. Her character in the book doesn't yell literally ever - not once in the whole series can I recall her legitimately yelling at someone. Her persona is kind and gentle in the books and as for wits, she's clever, and sneaky, and cunning. She fights back with Gabe in ways that we as the audience can see, but Gabe misses because he's so dense.
Take the bean dip scene.
In the show, she basically is like "Yeah yeah I'll make the bean dip, shut up" and Gabe just whines about the sour cream while they yell at each other.
In the book? That's her bargaining chip to take the car for the weekend. That's her ticket out of the house. Bribery. Not just placating a whining husband - she bribes him in the books.
And her yelling back? Just feels so unnatural to Sally Jackson as a whole. I saw someone say she feels like Disney girl-bossed her, and they're right. She doesn't feel like Sally Jackson. She feels like just another cut and paste Disney woman who's snappy and doesn't take shit.
And to be clear - the OG Sally Jackson also didn't take shit. She was just so much more clever about it, in a way that made sure Percy never saw her actively yell. She doesn't have to be snarky and rude to get her way. Percy knows she's fighting back without physically fighting, and that's what makes her so strong. Sometimes you have to fight more with your wits and cleverness than you do with screaming and fists
(Gee...wonder what other character Percy ends up really admiring that also holds that philosophy in life?)
Anyway...all that said, stop blaming the fact that it's a children's show on Gabe's watered down personality. Children's shows/movies and family shows/movies have been depicting serious parental abuse and neglect for decades, in both realistic and more humorous ways that don't take away from the neglect. Kids can handle it, because there are kids going through it.
To say that "It's a kids show, kids shouldn't have to see that," is a disservice to the kids who need to see that, so they know that they can get away too, and they don't have to get physical to do it.
Also, this version of Gabe? Doesn't deserve to die. He's just annoying, not an asshole that scares Percy more than literal monsters do.

I need to know more about Metis Cykes. I really do.
She's a psychologist working for NASA with her work (implied actual) partner to build robots who feel. Said partner has a brother whom Metis mentors in the field of psychology and they're both big nerds for Japanese culture. She and her daughter literally live in a NASA space station. Seriously. That's just where they live!
More importantly, she has a very obtuse form of love. She builds machines and headphones to help her daughter live a normal life but the two of them are so detatched from one another that Athena doesn't see it as anything more than an experiment. When Metis tries to explain what she's doing, she explains it at such a high level that Athena just can't digest the information. This is Metis' daughter, mind. A fairly high-maintainence one who was forced to spend a majority of time at home because of a disability. She couldn't explain to this girl - who by all rights should be the most familiar person in her life - that a pair of headphones can help make things quieter for her.

I'm willing to believe Simon on this one; he is remarkably in-tune to people and what drives them forward (usually for the purpose of manipulating them into getting his way). Metis more than likely did love Athena and showed it through her dedication to researching her abnormal hearing. She used it to help the Space Centre of course, but also to help Athena live a relatively normal life.

One of the last things she left for Athena before she died was Widget; a device whose primary function is to display/voice Athena's emotions and thoughts. Things that she probably struggled to communicate as a child, enough for it to be something Metis wanted to create a solution for.

Widget doesn't go completely black when it's not reading any emotions - check when Phineas Filch stole it. It's grey when he wears it and lights back up when it's on Athena. It only goes black when Athena's in severe emotional distress and begins to shut down.
Metis knew Athena was in deep pain; she was in pain even before UR-1 scarred her. She loved her so much that she dedicated a good chunk of her research into trying to understand her condition and relieving her of some of the burden.
But that's not what stuck with Athena.

Her tireless work meant that they didn't spend much - if any - time connecting with each other as mother and daughter. Perhaps she's troubled in her own way. Maybe her work with GYAXA really was that demanding. In either case, Metis failed to meet her daughters emotional needs while focusing on her practical problems.
I wonder why Athena never picked up on this... you know, Athena - someone who can hear subconscious tone of voice so well she may as well be telepathic? Did they just not talk that much? Was Metis emotionally challenged as well? Was she not nearly as emotional as other people, like the phantom was? Or maybe Athena simply didn't fully understand what the emotions she heard from her mother meant. It's hard for me to say.
I need to know more about this troubled, troubling person.

Hmm... come to think, maybe that's why Aura fell for her? She's voiced her displeasure at how emotional and irrational humans are. Someone like Metis - someone who focused on practical problems and could seemingly invent a solution to anything through intelligence - would be a good change of pace in her eyes, I'd imagine. Then again, these lines come after UR-1 and 7 years of grief, so take that with a grain of salt.

Racism behind the scenes (exclusion of indigenous talent and consultants that were present in the main game, very little care or no usage of the Kanienkehá:ka language, etc)
P much non of the indigenous cast returned except for Noah as Ratonhnhaké:ton. Ziio, Kanen’tó:kon, Oiá:ner… all different people (and all white or non indigenous if memory serves me right. I heard a story where Tiio Horn didn’t even know the dlc was being made until Noah told her at a con)
Killing ziio again for no god damn reason. And Kanen’tó:kon. Oh how about we kill Oiá:ner this time too. All of em died shamefully.

It has a salvageable premise,, a reimagined history timeline of a largely indigenous cast rising against a maniacal George Washington that shoots lasers. In the hands of a better crew and artist i think it would have been great and fun but as is.,,
I also like bad end alternate universe stories where someone gets dropped into a world where everything they know is wrong!! Call me silly but. Phineas and Ferb across the second dimension. But no yeah this is awful awful awful despite using a trope I like.
The only good thing I can say about tokw is that it has a great score. Lorne Balfe knocks it out of the park again but no yeah this kinda sucks ass imo. Also Noah’s voice performance really went off here but that’s it.
If I find the posts I talked abt this before in I’ll link it here but yeah. Lucky me that my favorite ac game also has the worst dlc of the entire franchise. And so the monkey paw curled.
Also heads up I’m not indigenous so when I talk abt the more racial stuff here, I’m not speaking from experience but rather what I’ve learned from other people who discuss stereotypes in media and what should be done to allow better representation

hi i cannot sleep and my mind is wandering to the most random places tonight. so i come with a question: what are your headcanons for the whereabouts/backstories of phineas & candace’s father and ferb’s mother? please include as much lore as humanly possible

Hmm, okay to be completely honest, I haven't really spent much time thinking about this. However I do personally think that Candace and Phineas' parents are divorced, while Ferb's mom passed away.
All that said, let's see if I can come up with something here...
Linda and Mr. Flynn were married young
Linda was still in her Lindana days then, he was some up-and-coming producer at the time
They met at a party somewhere and hit it off immediately. It's called networking.
They were the hot couple in the tabloids for awhile. You could barely go a week without seeing their faces or hearing their names somewhere.
Shortly after they were married, Linda found out she was pregnant and gave up the Lindana act to stay at home with the baby
Candace was a very ugly baby.
Candace loved her daddy, she was like a little duckling that followed him around everywhere
She liked to put on his glasses and his shoes and stomp around the house doing impressions of him.
They lived as a unit of three for awhile until Phineas came into the picture
Phineas was a sickly baby (you can't tell me that head of his made for an easy birthing experience), so it was hard on the family while he spent time in the hospital
He was also an ugly baby btw.
When Phineas was around two, all the stress had reached the breaking point, and they finally admitted defeat and divorced
I hate to say it was a bitter divorce, but well, there must be some reason he's out of the picture.
Lawrence and Mrs. Fletcher were sickeningly in love
Like ooey gooey mushy wushy stuff 24/7 just the most disgusting couple to be around.
They met as teenagers and were sweethearts ever since.
They liked to go on dates to cute little restaurants as often as they could
She loved movies, practically every weekend was spent at the cinema. She especially liked old black and white films.
She got sick when Ferb was only a baby, but she hid it well from him
She didn't want him to remember her ill.
Until she couldn't hide it anymore.
She passed away when Ferb was only a toddler
It scares him that the older he gets, the less he remembers of her.
Lawrence was - understandably - a wreck.
For several months.
Ferb stayed with his grandparents for awhile
Lawrence just couldn't cope with his grief and a toddler at the same time
Especially since every time he looked at Ferb, he saw her eyes.
Eventually Lawrence picked himself up, and while still devastated, knew he needed a fresh start.
For both of them. For all of them.
Ferb once asked why they didn't see Mummy anymore, and Lawrence almost broke down again
That's when he moved them to the United States
He knew he'd miss his family, but this was a clean slate.
It was hard at first, raising a kid on his own, but he knew he had to, for Ferb's sake
It's what his wife would have wanted. He'd promised her he'd do a good job.
He was so nervous the day he enrolled his shy little boy in preschool
They had barely walked into the classroom when a little redheaded boy took Ferb's hand and said "I know what we're going to do today!"
Lawrence met the boy's mom later that day.

Thoughts on parallels between the scene where Phineas beats Sherman and where Imelda tortures weepe?
Jonas Spahr is there, and he's also not having a good day. 😔
So, I initially meant that as a joke about how I'm a huge fan of Jonas and will obnoxiously take any opportunity to talk about him. I do think there are many parallels and resonances between these scenes, and there is much to say about the four characters named and the central action of nearly killing someone for the sake of the Trust, but those angles are more obvious and more likely to be recognized by most. (And I'm willing to talk about some of those as well, if asked again. Or, if there's a specific aspect you'd like to hear about, let me know.)
In terms of my interests, it IS a pretty interesting point to be made: Jonas Spahr is there, watching. It's integral to both scenes that Spahr is a witness; he's even the ONLY witness in the Arca. His role as such is also explicitly recognized by the active character in each scene:

Since this is about the cabaret and Arca scenes specifically, I won't spin off into an entire commentary and analysis of Spahr's role as an observer and witness. For now, we'll have to content ourselves with the short version just for context, but I can go into it at a later time.
The heart of it is: thus far, his role in the narrative is a generally passive one that largely centers on watching and observing. It's the first thing he does as a player in this story. He steps back and watches how Phineas handles the Ginsberg situation, and the narrators remind us four separate times in 1.03: Mica:

Deeds of Valor—and Caenum, apparently—need to be witnessed, after all! Thing is, Spahr does a lot of watching but, until more recently, doesn't really SEE all that often. He is for a long time a passive, immovable, unreadable observer to events as the eyes of the Trust. He is that witness for much of events he's involved in, for better or (more likely) worse.
After Phineas attacks Sherman, Spahr himself is quick to identify this problem with himself in 2.02: Ascendancy, that he is watching and looking but he is, perhaps intentionally, not seeing and noticing:

The incident in the cabaret and the incident in the Arca are directly connected and bound together by Spahr as witness. Phineas attacking Sherman and Imelda torturing Weepe are moments that Spahr is truly seeing, bearing witness to events and comprehending them, their context, and their implications.
In both, he bears witness specifically to the damage that the Trust causes and the ways that it harms people inside and outside of it. Phineas and Imelda believe that Spahr will witness something else—Phineas hopes that Spahr will not be witnessing a failure where Imelda hopes that Spahr will be witnessing one—but what he is seeing instead is the raw brutality that the Trust and its systems and pressures naturally engender at their logical extremes. He immediately recognizes it to be a horror:

Spahr experiences a dread born of comprehension typically reserved for moments of understanding in eldritch horror. Sucks to be the guy whose role is to see things and you end up actually comprehending some of them! And comprehend them in these two scenes he does.
Spahr doesn't do a ton in terms of active action in either scene—the cabaret scene is notably set off by his mere presence, and he ultimately freezes in the Arca scene—but in each, he does ultimately move to attempt to stop what is happening. And, notably, he does so under his own power and motivation.

That said, he fails to prevent a significant amount of the damage. He moves fast enough to prevent Phineas from killing Sherman, but too late to prevent the harm done to Sherman and all the spiraling consequences of this. He is frozen into a paralysis by Imelda's threat, so he fails to follow through and stop her, stop the harm done to Weepe, and again stop the spiraling consequences from this.
Twice, once in each scene, he fails to meaningfully prevent the harm done here. He attempts to stop them when he is standing here in the room with them, but by then it's too late. ("Too little, too late," as Sherman will eventually say.)
Obviously, Spahr is not the sole bearer of responsibility in either incident. Phineas and Imelda have an immense amount to answer for there, and the system of the Trust itself created the conditions that one way or another pushes them and Spahr to do as they do. However, both are incidents that he in some way has allowed. He reflects on having not seen, or even ignored, the signs of what was brewing inside Phineas and what he was being pushed toward; he helps engineer this intervention and stands by while Imelda locks Weepe in the Arca, never asking enough questions.
He has allowed both to happen. When he begins to feel the emotional aftermath of each, in 2.02: Ascendancy and 2.17: Compensation, the narration of his internal monologue even uses that wording:

They're both critical scenes to Spahr's development as someone whose role is largely passive, both within the Trust systems and within the narrative. Just as much as he is to be seen, he is also very much here to see—and to refuse to see. To stand by as a passive witness to horrors and allow them, silent and impassive and watching. He can try to intervene, but he's already facilitated this.
He is coming to understand his part in this, in brutalities such as these, with horror. In the aftermath of the Arca incident, we see him increasingly discontent with his role in the Trust and desperately in search of ways to stop what he can. He is not yet successful, but his vision is very much clarifying. His arc turns around these scenes as paralleled experiences for him in his narrative, as moments that he witnesses, allows, and fails to stop against even his own belated efforts. These two scenes bookend his growing comprehension and self-reflection throughout season two.
Twice now, it's been asked of him: What are you refusing to see, Jonas? What horrors and brutalities are you allowing to happen? Will you always be intervening much too late?
Third time's a charm, perhaps.

Phineas and Ferb embodies the antithesis of hustle and crunch culture because the fundamental lesson of every single episode is that your passions are no less fulfilling if they only last for one afternoon. You are no less passionate, just because you are passionate about a variety of things or even an entirely different thing every day. And your achievements aren’t worth less just because the fruits of your labour disappear. Even if there is no proof that you did anything, absolutely nothing to show for what you accomplished, no physical gain for all your hardwork, that doesn’t mean that you gained nothing.
The show’s very soul is that the joy of doing something is, in and of itself, enough of a gain. If you enjoyed doing something, if you found it fun or interesting for just an afternoon and then never wanted to do it ever again, that’s enough. That you found happiness, even if fleeting and momentary, is gain enough. You don’t need to have “something to show for it” at the end of your passions, you don’t need to have physical evidence of your work, the memory and the experience are the important parts and are the only parts you need to focus on.
And furthermore, relaxing or spending a whole day staring at something or playing video games or reading or even doing an activity that you didn’t enjoy but that you tried to see if you would: all of these things are shown as just as valid and important. If you spend an entire day staring at the sky, the show promises that you have accomplished the same goal as if you built a rollercoaster. If you get something from it — and that’s if you get ansolutely anything from it, physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, Anything — then the activity was worth doing.
Phineas and Ferb says embrace your want for knowledge, learn things that are absolutely meaningless in the so-called “real world” and share these worthless things with your friends and have fun. Find your self worth in how much you enjoy living, enjoy every moment that you can, and don’t feel bad if you tried something new and didn’t enjoy it! You don’t have to make a career out of your passion. Your passion is enough, no matter how long it lasts, and your joy is worth it.

Blind Loyalty Pt 1 Ominis Gaunt x Reader
Whispers in The Halls
Summary: Its the first day back at Hogwarts and everyone is talking about the new student in Slytherin. Y/n and Ominis have their first encounter with the fifth year and it already causes some mistrust to stir up.

You sat in between Ominis and Imelda, Sebastian on her other side. You weren't quite sure why you were all still sat in the Great Hall. But when you looked up at the professors, Professor Black was strictly talking to Professor Weasley.
"What on earth are we still doing here?" Ominis complains.
"I haven't a clue. Black seems to be upset with Professor Weasley though." You say absentmindedly, trying to think of what could have enraged your uncle this much.
"Maybe he found a troll in the dungeons." Sebastian jests from across the table.
"Seriously? I have flying first thing in the morning. I need to polish my broom!" Imelda complained.
"Please Imelda. Everyone knows you're the best flyer at school." You say with the intent to get her to stop complaining.
Just as she was about to complain further all four of you whipped your heads to the entrance to the Great Hall.
Professor Black walks back toward the Sorting Hat with an older student trailing behind him. They seem disheveled and breathing hard, either from the nerves or the stairs you cant tell.
Ominis picks up on the chatter, "What? What is it?" 
"Some new student, Min. But they look like our age. I hope they don't get sorted in our house. They look like trouble." You glance at Ominis, who nods but faces forward again. Something he does when he's trying to use his other sense better.
"Don't say that (Y/n). A new student could be a fun distraction from Anne." Sebastian says, not even looking at you and Ominis, who is also annoyed by his remark about his sick sister.
"Nobody can replace Anne." Ominis says, venom dripping in his tone.
"I'm not saying they will, I'm saying maybe it'd be good for us to find trouble elsewhere." Sebastian defends.
"Can you three put a sock in it? I'm trying to hear!" Imelda interrupts before you could give your input on the whole situation.
"Slytherin!"
"Oh bloody hell!" You curse under your breath.
"Language!" Ominis smacks your sleeve and you give a surprised yelp.
"Awe look at that the two lovebirds are fighting like their already married."
This comment elicited a glare from both you and Ominis. Both of you being from two vary powerful pureblood families and in the same house, its no surprise you ended up as friends. Your uncle, Phineas Black was headmaster at Hogwarts. As for Ominis, well his father was a direct descendant of Slytherin, weather Ominis wanted to accept that or not.
Ominis and you met first year. He was there for you when your mother went off the rails after your father died and married a muggle. After that you started to live with your uncle and his wife and their three sons. You and Sebastian were around for the falling out Ominis had with his parents. The three of you were always there for each other.  This time though, with Sebastian going through his own family crisis, he doesn't seem to be even acknowledging that this is the first year ever that the group is a member short.
You seethed at him, "We're not together."
After Professor Black announce no Quidditch this year, you knew that the walk back to the common room would be filled with grumbling from both Sebastian and Imelda.
"He dared to cancel Quidditch this year? What am I going to do!" Imelda started, the second you four left the Great Hall.
"Maybe you can race people. That way I can still watch people fall off their brooms!" Sebastian suggest.
Both you and Ominis took slow steps away from them. 
"I cant believe that new kid was sorted with us. I don't know how to explain it Ominis but I have a bad feeling about them." "Oh please (Y/n). You mustn't be so pessimistic. I'm sure their a great person."
"You see the irony in you calling me a pessimist right?" You giggle.
He rolls his eyes, thinking of something snarky to say but you quickly grab his shoulder to stop him.
"I'm tired Ominis. Good night. Make sure Seb doesn't get expelled on the first day."
"This is far from over Black!" He shouts as you descend the stairs to your dorm.

In the morning you sit on the floor next to Ominis, who leans against the wall next to the windows under the Black Lake. He has been teasing the first years all morning.
"If you look hard enough you can see a mermaid in the Black Lake." He told two siblings, who were particularly drawn to the window this morning.
"Ominis-" You start to scold him but the new fifth year interrupts you.
Ominis stands to address the new student, but you simply shift further into the wall, wanting nothing to do with this conversation.
"Ah based on all the chatter going around the common room, I'm guessing you must be the new fifth year. I'm Ominis. Ominis Gaunt. And this little ray of Sunshine is (Y/n) Black." Ominis points to you on the floor and you scoff so he can hear your displeasure.
"Nice to meet you Ominis." They greet.
"Well you certainly had a memorable arrival." He teased.
The rumors about the dragon attack speak like wild fire in the 12 hours before this conversation. You were the one to have told Ominis, since you actually bunk with the new fifth year.
"Well if I'm going to make my mark here, I had to start right away." They brag. You just roll your eyes.
Ominis gives a surprised laugh, "You are defiantly in the right house. Do let me know if there is anything I can do to help you navigate your first days here, though I doubt you'll have any trouble." 
"Did you expect to be put into Slytherin?" They question.
"What is this? An interview of anyone whos remotely famous around here?" You mutter under your breath. Just loud enough for him to hear you.
Ominis gives a nervous laugh, trying to be more polite then you, "Of course. My family on my fathers side are direct descendants of Salthazar Slytherin himself. Not something I am especially proud of mind you. " He pauses, and turns his head towards you. "As for (Y/n), well they too have a lasting relationship with the house. But both of our families are obsessed with blood status so it's a topic we both try to avoid."
The student looks at you on the floor. You continue to wear a blank expression and look from the window to Ominis then back out the window, bored.
"Yes well urm- did that boy say he heard a mermaid?" They point out the window.
"Oh yes. But I've never heard of a mermaid showing up outside our common room window."
The two first years grumble in disappointment before heading off to their first class.
"Him and Seb like to tease the first years." You butt in, earning you a foot to your knee for interrupting him.
"It is fun to play along though. Know to keep some first years on the look out for hours."
"Thank you Ominis. it was night to meet the pair of you." The fifth year walk off to Sebastian.
Ominis leans back against the wall. "Okay I see what you mean."
"Yeah." You scoff. "They practically jumped at the opportunity to ask you about your house. Why did you have to tell them about out lineage? We both agreed not to bring it up unless we have to."
"I wanted them to know that we have connections, in case they start to get the wrong idea."
You stand up from your spot, facing him head on, even if he is nearly a foot taller then you now, "And if your new best friend starts asking about the Chamber or the locket?"
"They won't." Ominis says confidently.
"And if Sebastian tells them?" You gauge his reaction. The shock at the idea of it being Sebastian who tells people about what Ominis might know about Hogwarts shows on his now paler face.
"I- he wouldn't. He has been my best friend longer than you have. He would not go behind my back like that." He shutters at the idea.
"If you say so Min. I'm going to breaky. You do what you must." And with that you walk away to go meet Poppy and Natty in the Great Hall.

I’ve done a similar response to this before here and mentioned something else about it here but I’ll go over it again since those posts are both from a while ago. also bear in mind I haven’t seen aya recently bc I don’t like it. okay let’s get into it
[also im gonna preface this saying maybe i sound very pessimistic but im ranting and its just gonna sound like im complaining because i am. i mean no real malice by the way. im simply a person with a blog.]
first off. they don’t use the show don’t tell as well as they could. in the what might have been montage, sure, they showed potential scenarios and how phineas felt (very briefly) when isa stopped visiting his backyard but it just feels so rushed. I get that they only had like 11 minutes to show it but idk there has to be another way to write it. or just not have it at all idk its just from a writing point of view the whole episode feels rushed and out of place from everything else continuity-wise. why not use little easter eggs planted in the show beforehand? operation crumbcake? pharmacists? meapless in seattle? god theres so many episodes with evidence that phineas liked her back even if he didnt know. just. continuity!!!!
second. why did their friends not try something sooner. it’s not like they didn’t know. like phineas seems to be okay with saying “i wish! i am so in the friend zone there” in front of his friends (that quote alone makes me lose my shit but that’s a whole other point) so clearly they knew about phineas. and isabella also wasn’t quiet about it (source: pnf s1-4). they had like four years of high school to do something and they planned it the day isa left for college? nah its just the least realistic thing ever for me. also them being 18 is like yeah okay maybe the slow burn was worth it and theyre way more grown up (i love a good slowburn) but ohhhhhh my god SURELY their friends were getting sick of them dancing around each other. just me?
third. and I’m sorry to ash simpson but oh my god I hate the character designs like They Would Not Fucking Look Like That. it almost feels like it completely disregards their arcs during the original summer. like yeah child chub disappears over ur teen years but sometimes it stays a little longer! make phineas less twiggy!! make isa look more like her mother! (am i about to redesign them again? whoops)
four. and i know this is no fault of dan and swampy but the show was about to end anyways and yet the entire friend group was paired off into hetero ships?? get fucking real. none of those kids are straight. realistically, i know it was a different time and gay marriage wasnt even legal in the us yet so it wasnt all that common to have queer romance on screen let alone on disney channel but like i said, the show was about to end. what were the disney channel execs gonna do? cancel it? lmao
five. "I am so in the friend zone there." "we are guys. we do not talk about our feelings." WHAT!!! i cant believe this shit is real. these lines of dialogue are canon. what the hell. what kind of message does that even send to younger, impressionable viewers? if ur a 10 year old boy watching that (ok fine maybe that isnt gonna stick with you forever but listen) and you go 'oh its okay to just bottle everything up and not tell my friends about my feelings about anything ever' that is insane! thats not how things should go!! like i get the whole "im so in the friend zone" and yes, this also has to do with the era but like if they wanted to be a more progressive cartoon that kids look up to and enjoy maybe they just. shouldn't have put that whole conversation in.
i barely have any problems with the b plot. in fact id watch the episode just for the kazoo solo. because that plot lines up with the continuity. i can totally see heinz having bowling night with perry and carl and monogram every week! i can totally see perry and monogram retired! and carl running owca and getting payed for it! that all checks out! that one makes sense and works with the canon! if they got that plot so right how did they get the a plot so wrong?
i can answer this question: fanservice. its an awful word, i know. act your age is a fanservicey episode which is why i think it crashed and burned. mml season 2 is rooted in the same issue: doof is very present and takes away from the original plot of the show. like, the one he wasnt even in until the last episode of s1. slightly getting off topic but it is the crux of the issue. fanservice doesnt make for good storytelling. even if it brings in the big bucks. at its core, telling the story the way it should be told is the best one. even if it pisses people off. a good portion of the viewers will still appreciate whatever ending the creators come up with. and no, im not saying phinbella shouldn't have become canon, in fact i really like the ship and all their dynamics, i just think they went about it the wrong way.
as someone who's written and published fic about them getting together in different universes (granted, they were from when i was younger so its mildly terrible. take them with a grain of salt) there are a lot of other ways to tell that story canonically. honestly, i think the best way of doing it was to keep it ambiguous. dont tell that story. let the viewers pick their own ending for phineas and isabella. maybe they dont get together after all. who knows!

Pokemon SwSh x Reader Dancing Headcanons: Hop, Bede, and Marnie

Trying his best™
He's an absolute mess when you ask him to dance. He just barely manages to stutter out a "y-yeah!" before muttering about how terrible his dancing is.
Doesn't entirely know where to put his hands. He awkwardly tried different positions before deciding on one hand holding yours, the other one on your waist.
Once you two get comfortable, you have an absolute blast :)
Bede
Remember that Phineas and Ferb song, "I Ain't Got Rhythm"? That is Bede's dancing ability in a nutshell.
He insists that dancing is stupid and a waste of energy, that he can't dance at all. However he's actually quite graceful once on the dance floor.
If you ask him to dance with you, he'll definitely think you're joking at first. Surely this is just a way for you to learn his weaknesses (you) so you can exploit them.
Once you finally convince him, he insists on taking the lead. You're taller than him? Too bad, he's still in charge.
Marnie
Her entire hometown is one giant concert. Safe to say she's very comfortable dancing with others.
You don't even get a chance to ask her to dance, she'll simply take you by the hand and lead you to the dance floor.
You two love to twirl each other around :) One time you got stuck in a loop of spinning each other again and again and again.
Watch out for Team Yell, they're not mean or anything but they'll hype you up and it's very embarrassing.

"It was all a lie" - "It's never true"
"I could make my own rules" - "We make our own rules"
I'm not an English native speaker but the semantic differences between lies and "never true" are pretty obvious even to me:
He blames the world/his parents, she says her father wasn't to blame ; lies are deceptive, something that's not/never true can just be a misunderstanding (all lies are untrue but not everything that's untrue is a lie) ; he "could" make his own rules but alone = I (001} ; they just make their own rules together like in two Ones=0II).
Especially the last part is where we have mirrored shots, "Henry" looks at El from the left, Max from the right:
Could = used to talk about what someone or something was able or allowed to do or to express possibility and past tense.
Max's sentence is definite. (present tense, can be read as: always "We make our own rules" in past, present & future). Besides Max first says "almost" in regards to "never true". And it's to date the last sentence of her in the show.
These two are on the same level but on opposite ends of the spectrum.
Like in this image darkness and light are in the same shot, split into two sides of the frame and you have El & Max on one side and Vecna on the other.

Note that Brenner says Henry but in his explanation he says One. (Plus pronoun games between El and Owens.)
The lamp light creates like a halo or corona around Max's head in this promo shot (for S4 there's a god ray pointed at El... And I think at Will)

In the Phineas Gage scene we see her having like a beam of light or God ray directly on her head (it's a reflection of the glass behind her, a mirroring effect)

(again a male pronoun overlayed in the exact moment the camera changes focus to Max with Clarke saying his line - that is clearly connected to the scene in which El draws Max's face with her own it saying "This is Max", El being 5'6, Max living in No. 56 etc)

Loki spin-off ideas
I'm going to preface this by saying, I do not think we will ever get a Loki spin-off. But that doesn't mean I can't think about all the great possibilities there could be. And also I am quickly running out of ideas again.
Spoilers for Loki.
TVA workplace comedy, featuring B-15 Verity, Casey, OB, on occasion Sylvie and Mobius, and introducing new (queer) characters. Casey and OB stumble their way into a relationship, Verity once and for all establishes that she can detect lies, Mobius is sad until in the season finale (with special guest star Tom Hiddleston!) someone figures out how to get him to Loki. And we get Lokius in the last ten seconds, because they pull a Will Shatner and purposely ruin every other take that isn't them making the fuck out.
TVA training shorts, featuring Miss Minutes (ugh), reminiscent of those high school PSAs they made Cap do ("So you got detention," etc.), but animated in the style of the introductory video Loki watched in the first episode. You could also have a second season of them as an updated version following the dissolution of the Sacred Timeline and how the branches are seen as good things now. Maybe the new ones are narrated by members of the Time Revengers, since Miss Minutes is still being rehabilitated. (I'm still deciding if the idea of listening to Mobius tell the story of how the multiversal tree was created would be heartbreaking even if he managed to remain professional and not break down in tears, or if it would be really sweet that he gets assigned that video.)
Lokis in the void, following mainly Kid Loki and (if we retcon it, set this before the show, or he somehow survived) Classic Loki, but also ridiculous schemes of President Loki (yuck, no thank you) that constantly get thwarted. The B-plot is Alligator Loki sneaking off and getting up to some shit in an anti-Perry the Platypus running gag. (Wait, maybe I just want a Phineas and Ferb parody where every character is a Loki and it takes place in the void. That could be so stupid it's hilarious.)
Classic Loki in Valhalla please I need it. Like we start similarly to the events of my fic After, where Classic Loki arrives in Valhalla and reunites at long last with Thor (don't ask me how, I know technically his timeline was reset). Then the show continues with Classic Loki and Thor getting up to hijinks in Valhalla, maybe scheming to break out of Valhalla (a storyline for Loki in various contexts I've played around with a few times). We could have different characters from the Thor movies and comics in Valhalla, but since they're all dead, they're all played by older actors. You could make some easy, low-hanging old jokes (back pain every time they use their weapon, etc.), but they're gods and they're dead, so technically they should be fine. They're just old and dead. (But like, Tony Stark is for sure in Valhalla, too. You could have some frostiron going on. Or Fandral. He's there, too, Ewing.)
Mobius's adventures in the multiverse, just episodes of him traveling through time and experiencing it (I'm realizing now that this is basically just the premise for Doctor Who...). Also going on in this series is obviously Mobius missing Loki and looking for a way to get to him. Of course (because this is my show and I say so), the series would end with them reuniting and confessing and staying together, either in the tree if need be or in the wider multiverse if Loki is able to leave the tree. And there would certainly be episodes throughout the show featuring the other members of our Time Revengers. Maybe the workplace comedy and this show are occurring simultaneously. (Like one episode of TVA someone's like "Where's Verity?" "Oh she's on a mission." And you're like oh the actor has a break or is filming something else, and then later that week the episode of Mobius airs and THERE'S VERITY!)
Sylvie in Broxton. That's it, that's the show. Just Sylvie living her best life in the small town, working at McDonald's, hanging out at Lyle's record store, ignoring 90% of the calls on her TemPad (unless it's Mobius, because in spite of herself, she's a little worried about him).

not to be dark by acknowledging the material, but it really is so crazy how involved and all-encompassing the henry-will rape plots are. not only did he give him unimaginable trauma by hunting him in the upside down, but he also violated him in, like... every possible way? and violently so?
physically at the library (tentacle slug thing down his throat), via forced impregnation (throwing up baby demoslugs from the aforementioned), again on the field (possession via particles), and via the goosebumps that result from their psychic connection. will says that it came for him and that he tried to make it go away, but it got him. when asked what that means, he breaks down in sobs and says only that he felt it everywhere--everywhere--and that he still feels it, and he just wants it to be over. he can't explain the experience that completely and utterly terrifies him. he tries, but he just breaks down again until they urge him to express himself through his art.
his body is different after, too: colder, covered in sweat. he fears the bath, can't tolerate any warmth. when he sleeps, his body is elsewhere, eyes moving this way and that beneath his lids. he isn't in control of himself while being used, forced to do things he doesn't want to do, like choking his own mother who wants only to save him. even after they get it out of him, even after he's clean, he still feels it: that phantom touch, the scars, both visible and not. he describes it like a roller coaster drop, like your body is being plunged in freezing water. he breaks out in goosebumps on the back of his neck whenever he's near. even now, even when he should be safe and free, he isn't. even now, he's still there with him in his body.
psychically via their connection and his possession. dr. owens mistakes will's true sight experiences as being a ptsd symptom due to the anniversary effect. will is reaching out, trying to warn them, trying to get help before it's too late. he tells them that there's something watching him, something dangerous and evil that's been repeatedly trying to lure him out and get him alone, and they just... don't do anything, because they don't believe him. they tell him it's a figment of his imagination, a result of his trauma. it's not real, they say. it's not true, you're fine, nothing can hurt you now. he feels crazy for it, like no one understands or gets it, which obviously means that they must be right. he's too different now, like phineas gage. too much of a freak all because of what happened to him, and this is the proof. this, and the way that everyone treats him like a baby now, like he can't possibly handle himself anymore, because clearly he's proven himself too broken and helpless.
except... he's not crazy. he was right the entire time, but no one listened until it was too late and it got him. it wasn't enough to have him physically there inside of him before, now he's in his mind, too. they share thoughts and now-memories, feelings and experiences and sensations. rage, fear, pain, and more. him and henry, henry and him--as confirmed by season four. this was no monster above such pedestrian and foreign human concepts like morality, but a grown man that knew precisely what he was doing and was acting according to plan.
it was likely henry that followed him home that night and kidnapped him. it was henry that looked through his eyes, that wrapped his hand around joyce's throat, that robbed him of any agency and control over his own mind and body. it was henry that kept him from his memories and that stood between him and all of the people he loves. it was henry that flooded the laboratory with demodogs and sent them after him every time in effort to bring him back. it was henry that tried to kill eleven for daring to stop him. everything, that great evil that he felt in and around him, it was... a man. "some other queer," like troy and everyone else suspected, if you believe in the queer-coding. not a monster that doesn't understand the rules of their world, something abstract and inconceivable, but a human being just like him that does understand and simply doesn't care. because he thinks himself above the rules. because his plans are more important and they justify the means. because will's agency, his consent, and his entire life is nothing compared to this man's want.
and then... years later... when will is older, making steps to move forward, trying to get on with his life... there it is again: henry's presence in will's mind and at the back of his neck. the bitter realization that it was a man behind his torment. that it somehow still isn't over. that he's still there with him, in his body. that it always comes back to what happened, where it happened, and who happened.
it's, like... it's just so involved. a real and unending violation of each and every part of will: mind and body. is there anything, any part of will at all, that is truly his and only his? that has not been taken, touched, or given up for someone else? eleven was given closure with regard to her abuser, dr. brenner. when will it be his turn to be free? when will he be allowed to take his mind and body back and be just will again? when?
