scripting is a life hack that ive been using since i was like 17 and idk why it works but it does ahdkaka. anytime ive been stuck in a situation where ive gone over and over all possible logical routes to solve it and have just ended up hitting wall after wall i would sit down and write a fake journal entry as if it was from the future when the problem was solved. i did it to stop feeling so unloved by everyone, i did it to get out of my 1.5 year writers' block, i did it to fix my relationship with food, and i did it to get back into reading after not reading for a full year ahfjdjska. I wouldn't say i do it specifically in order to find a solution but rather just to regulate my stress from overthinking too much. but somehow it always works ahdkaka i SWEAR by this.

I’m not a BruceBabs shipper but people who get so scandalized by it or any other non-DickBabs ships are so annoying. And it’s usually Oracle fans who think the only people only like something else is because they are anti Babs. Babs used to be married to Bruce in the Superman universe and has even dated Clark Kent. They were literally only 3-4 years apart compared to Barbara and Dick who are 6-7 years apart and Barbara was literally older than Talia al Ghul at one point. DickBabs always is held to like this moral standard but honestly to me it’s like the writers settled for the the most boring and safest option which sucks because I wish that the one canonically disabled wheelchair user that DC has would have had a grand romance but yet… like it grates on me that when fans talk about reasons to like DickBabs it is because it’s a disabled woman in a relationship but like she would be a disabled woman in a relationship in whatever relationship she was in because she is a disabled woman. I don’t care for DickBabs and I honestly don’t even care for the age gap like let Babs have a younger guy and have fun, but the ship itself is just boring to me. Anybody else but that please.

i think the biggest mistake was to downgrade babs down to a dick’s contemporary when there were a hundred other ways (albeit none of them even slightly appropriate 😂) to get to the dickbabs agenda, but like, none of it was leveraged…. it’s always irked me, personally, bc there was nothing cookie cutter about their romance to begin with, and there were multiple layers of complexity that didn’t directly involve bruce getting between them, but i feel like in the current era, most of what made them dickbabs even remotely complex was straight up eliminated and or sterilized…. For what? for dick and barbara to be each other’s halal soulmate? forgive my language, but their relarionship’s entire conception was haram 😂 erasing and downplaying what made their relationship ‘theirs’ does nothing but diminish their personal histories and the fact that they each literally brought out the worst in each other at times.

and it’s not to say either are or were perfect. they are not. they are so fucked up i have to actually laugh bc they are both my mentally ill babus and i truly wish dc creative slt could SEE that they can be their best weirdo selves WITHOUT falling into the trap of reducing them to the kind of couple conservatives love to tout as “true love” when we know the only true love in dc comics is kon el and bart allen. also, break dickbabs up 5ever!

and ur absolutely right that babs deserves her fun! personally, i think brubabs is the answer to freeing selina kyle from all the straight woman allegations (i would like her to peacefully fuck other men abd women for at least ten years without hearing a single word about broose) and barbara from the dick-is-your-soulmate garbage. reality is that dickbabs has been as bust as dickkory for the last nine million years (as much as i love dickkory muah muah). one of my biggest critiques of dc comics writing is that motherfuckers cant commit to a character development point for their life. we were over both dickkory and dickbabs in 2010. not bc people didn’t enjoy their ships, but bc the writing staffs went out of their way to slander every single character. i recently saw a post that dickkory only looks good in elseworlds stories cuz the main comic runs fucked his ass UP. and i agree! the same should be applied to dickbabs, bc they lost their appeal eons ago as well. they want nightwing’s ass ate so damn bad, they need to get him a new girlfriend. a boyfriend, even! but leave babs and kory out of it 😭😭😭

my first Cooper, I feel initiated!! read this in one sitting on a flight, I couldn't possibly put it down - truly the book form of a car crash you can't look away from, a Camus/Bresson/Araki vibe with Disaffected / Cynical Youths In Situations™ feel. one of those books where it's not so much about the prose or character developments but moreso the emotional journey/damage (lol) the events put you thru?? I read it on my kindle and was still paranoid someone would catch a glimpse of my screen during the particularly depraved scenes, it's such a rush to read sick twisted books like this in public <3

Frisk by Dennis Cooper

read this on a beach day with friends and it trulyyy hit the spot, like will 4real recommend this as a beach read if anyone asks LOL with Closer still fresh on my mind I was less shocked by the depravity, less taken back with the extent of how graphic things got, and was able to focus more on the characters and storyline itself. realllyyyy really loved it, the theme of obsession and unraveling it to its foundational moments came across so cohesively + the unreliable narrator was written so convincingly. I read in a review that while Cooper was writing sex scenes, if anything turned him on, he would rewrite it LOL I love that so much - COMMIT TO THE SICK BIT, TRULY! a testament to writing sick things not equaling glorifying/romanticizing said sick things (which should go without say but yknow). also Loved the movie adaptation of this - it's been on my radar 5ever and I'm so glad I read it first bc the gritty artistic direction(s) felt that much more justified to me

The Carnivorous Lamb by Agustín Gómez-Arcos

3 fictions in a row omg are you proud?? this was soooooo beyond what I expected, so gripping. it reminded me a little bit of Call Me By Your Name at times (ironically not even just bc of the taboo relationships) with its hazy idyllic summerlike prose and ambience, but this one's definitely way meatier with its themes and intent. incest/queerness/family dysfunction as metaphor/consequence/response to a dictatorship, the aftermath of war, the disintegration of a country as you once know it. so punchy and direct but also delicate and wide-eyed at times, I really really enjoyed it more than I expected to. was very surprised to find out that it seems to be a hit with Supernatural fans (particularly the subsection that ships the 2 brothers together), stripping context from the flowerier lines for the purpose of singling out the incest....like ummm!! that's certainly One way to interpret a book so tangled with Franco's dictatorship but ok go off?!!

The Girls Next Door was my first introduction to Playboy and I used to be so fascinated with the idea of people living this way, like you're telling me these hot young women are CHOOSING to live with this frail hag in a robe??? so it was cool to unravel the mystique of the mansion/company/Institution of Playboy to its bare, ideological + architectural bones. to follow, I read this profile piece on Hefner's eldest son's experience growing up in/around the mansion - what a trip!

How Do I Look? Queer Film and Video by Bad Object-Choices

I'm almost positive I read one of the essays (Looking For My Penis by Richard Fung) in college already bc I had a sense of deja vu the whole time, but generally this felt really familiar! conversations/discussions I've had in school, movies I've watched and the analyses that followed. this collection is essentially a bunch of transcribed presentations/talks at a conference followed by a discussion with fellow queer/film theorists/academics, so there was so much dimension to every topic which I appreciated! rly loved that they didn't hold back in the discussions, kind of scandalizing to see some theorists poke holes at the presenter's talk + you can Feel the tension that was in the room without even being there. I think I'd pee my pants in that position

I turn 25 in August and had idealized getting all my #EssentialAdult reading in the time leading up to the (alleged) Final Forming Of Thy Brain, finally dip my toes in some Joan Didion or some city woman grown-up wisdom, all that jazz. I'm kinda on a fiction kick though?? I've already finished 2 books this month (1 fiction, 1 memoir) I'll talk about later + am like halfway thru the 3rd George Miles Cycle book by Cooper (Closer + Frisk are part of a 5-book series, though mostly unrelated as far as characters go). I've got another fiction I have planned, but otherwise I do think I'm in desperate need of a woman's literary touch LOL so perhaps I will get on the Road-to-25 plan after all

Sexuality Headcanon: Queer. Initially he went with ‘gay’ (more on this in ‘gender’, below), but I’ve reassessed this in light of my fav Klav RPer writing him as a he/they enby. Apollo had some Thoughts about this, considered it for a while, internalised everything because it was his thing to deal with without putting any pressure on his partner and because of course he did he’s Apollo Justice, and eventually decided ‘queer’ works for him.

Gender Headcanon: Trans man. Mostly stealth, although not out of shame - more just that it’s nobody else’s damn business. He does the odd bit of pro bono for the LGBTQIA+ community, and volunteers now and then at a local charity, although he tends to lean more into being gay or queer if it’s ever questioned what his connection to the community is, rather than coming out. (Which he did right before going to college, by the way.)

A ship I have with said character: Klapollo is one of my OTPs (which is sort of an oxymoron, given the ‘o’ stands for ‘one’, but I’m rolling with it and you all can deal). It takes them a while to get things sorted out, partially because Klav is always just a little bit in show mode and that messes with Apollo’s perception. Once he understands how much he can trust them, it’s not unknown for the bracelet to come off at home.

A BROTP I have with said character: Clay Terran 5ever. I headcanon they had a confused little brief teenage romance at about the age of 14-15, because their best friend feels got sort of confused and mixed up, but quickly realised they prefer being, and are better as, the bestest besties, and went back to that without any drama.

A NOTP I have with said character: Apollo/Phoenix. Phoenix is his boss and kind of older brother/father(?) figure (right down to screwing up big time now and then) and I just can’t see it.

A random headcanon: Has perfect pitch. Hates it. Klavier (whose relative pitch is phenomenal, but not actual perfect pitch) is filthy jealous.

General opinion of said Character: I prefer writing Klav to Apollo if I’m RPing, though I can do both, which is saying something; usually I have a very strong preference for one side of the pairing, to the point of finding myself pretty much unable to write the other half. Which I guess means this angry little mess of a man went and stole my heart. Damn you, Apollo Justice. I suppose that’s, well… fine. ;)

dorothy/lucas on emerald city. this is a ship that i was into the idea of, then shipped like BURNING at the end of that ep when he keeps trying to tell the knock knock joke and she was like internally screaming. but then we got his identity, fixed his amnesia, and his love for glinda, and it just. it ruined a good thing is what i have to say. it just left me annoyed at the end of the day.

bonnie/jeremy on tvd. i know a lot of my friends were anti this ship to start with for a lot of reasons (and a lot of ppl were anti it back in the day bc they were still hoping for jeremy/tyler) but they had some cute content, and honestly I was relieved there was SOMEONE who was putting bonnies life first. but then he cheated on her with a ghost.......... i love anna but. REALLY?

jessica/luke in the marvel netflix universe. oh this one hurts. this one hurts a lot. i LOOOOOOOOOOVE comics jessica/luke. ANOTHER FUCK FIRST FEELINGS LATER SHIP! I LOVE THOSE! and when we first saw them together in the jessica jones show i thought it was going great! the actors have good chemistry and i loved their interactions! BUT. THEN. SHE KILLED HIS WIFE. AND SHE KNEW THIS AND HAD BEEN STALKING HIM OUT OF GUILT. AND THEN HAD SEX WITH HIM KNOWING SHE KILLED HIS WIFE. look obviously reva's death was not her fault, in any way. she had zero control over that situation. but she had control over her actions during the series, and she chose to get close to luke and have sex with him, knowing exactly how his wife died and that kilgrave was behind it, and not telling him shit til she absolutely had to. i can appreciate their relationship for what it is in that universe, but i reALLY can't ship it anymore.

bay/emmett on switched at birth. they were SO CUTE. SOOOOOOOOO CUTE. i loved this ship a lot. then the show got more boring and i stopped watching it, and then like?? he was a huge asshole?? after she was assaulted?? Hey Kate! I was wondering if you could share your process in how you go about drawing backgrounds in your comics? Yours always look on point, Especially when it comes to the interiors of space ships which I find impossible haha. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Okay, first off... sorry this took 5ever for me to answer 😅

So, I suppose the short answer would be a basic understanding of perspective and A LOT of references. I seriously have folders upon folders full of collected photo references and a billion 3D model references from sketchfab and various other parts of the internet. They save my ass whenever I'm having a tough time figuring out a shot.

For understanding drawing perspective as a whole (and so you don't feel lost with all these references and models) I highly recommend the book 'Framed Perspective' by Marcos Mateu- Mestre. I have a copy that sits next to my desk at all times 😊 absolutely amazing. Makes it all seem so easy.

But yeah, my process for backgrounds is often pretty similar to what’s above. Find a reference, lay down a guide and then add or take away for whatever you need to. Like this panel and this reference model. I checked some angles I liked to help me figure out my grid then I changed a few things in the room, laid down my lines and added some ships and people. Very common for a lot of artists apparently.

Though I don’t always use model help. If it’s a background I’m familiar with/ have already drawn a million times I can usually do an easy perspective grid myself. Like these ⬇️

I also eyeball quiet a lot of things because I’m lazy😅 as you can tell!

A thing I also do sometimes I’d make a perspective grid around a pose. I get pretty attached to poses. So for his panel panel I took a reference photo of myself from above and built a scene around it. I don’t recommend this for beginners but… yeah it’s a thing I do still. (Sorry, I don’t have the original reference picture anymore) but I think it definitely helps anyone understand how certain angles work.

As for interiors of space ships, I honestly just see it as a lot of repeated or dynamic shapes. You don’t need to do much to make some alright sci-fi scenes. If you look through any space or Star Wars comics a lot of the time the backgrounds it’s just like “oh, they just split this wall into asymmetrical panels and added a pipe or two and some lights.” As you can see, I do exactly that ‘cause again… I’m lazy 😂

If it’s a repeated shape I just make a flat version of the pattern then transform it into my grid. Like these fucking floor oval things at are everywhere in the star wars universe.

Work smart and use all the tools at your disposal to work faster 👍🏻 if you want to see someone go more in depth with a lot of these techniques I highly recommend checking out some of Ethan Becker’s videos on YouTube. He’s a brutally honest animator and he gives what I think are some very helpful tips to people who are intimidated by the industry or furthering their artistic practice.

But yeah... practice perspective and use reference to help you understand! And also random shapes. And also don’t be afraid to fuck up! Try things! You can’t learn if you don’t fail!

Hope this helped! I’m bad at explaining these kind of things 😅

Request: “reader is also a bounty hunter who, in a desperate plea to get off whatever planet, sneaks aboard mando’s ship. his response when he finds reader and what happens afterwards is up to you!”

After a shootout on Nevarro, you were left bloodied and bruised. Your own armor was heavily damaged from blaster fire. Backup enemy forces were surely on their way after the disruption you caused. You ducked between alleys of sandy refuge for some hope of escape. 

That’s when you spotted it- a shimmering, silver beacon of hope. A ship sat in the middle of an open expanse of dusty Nevarro. 

With a glance over each shoulder, you determined the coast was clear enough to investigate. Creeping towards the ship with smooth gliding steps, you approached the ship and boarded.

Starting at the cockpit, you looked around for any signs of life. With no thermal readings in sight, you continued to explore. Everything appeared normal at first glance; a standard pilot’s seat and a seat behind with regular equipment that would be necessary for cross-galaxy travel amidst Imperial threat. 

As you continued on, you found samples of the pilot’s life that made you raise a brow. Weaponry that wasn’t Imperial nor Republic and mimicked the weapons you had seen in your own work. You kept your tracks silent, afraid of disturbing any sort of trigger that would alert the owner to your presence. 

In the lower level of the ship, you spotted more familiar tech; carbonite freezing technology. Something that was common for bounty hunters to use to flash-freeze targets. 

Was this a bounty hunter’s ship?

You heard the trigger of a blaster click into place before you had the chance to turn around. You raised your hands in surrender before a voice spoke out through a heavy vocoder, “I wouldn’t touch that if I were you.”

“It’s not what it looks like, I promise I haven’t touched anything,” you pleaded as you turned around slowly to meet another Mandalorian shrouded in heavy beskar.

“Who are you?” the Mandalorian asks, blaster still pointed squarely at your chest.

“Y/N...I’ve been injured and my armor needs repair.”

“Sit down,” he says after a moment of analysis, gauging you for a threat.

He disengages his weapon and returns it to the holster on his hip. He sealed the ship and settled the small green child in a seat, handing off something for him to eat. He seemed to look after the creature; a foundling he considered to be family.

“Is that the bounty that caused all of the ruckus on Nevarro a few months ago?”

“He means no harm…”

“We could both be captured. You’re getting yourself into more trouble by hauling that thing around.”

“I’ve been tasked to return him to his kind. And I will see to it.”

You nodded, shredding your armor to look over your wounds. Your fellow Mandalorian handed you a bacta-spray, which you applied after shredding the necessary layers of your armor in privacy. You smiled in satisfaction when the deep wound on your chest began healing quickly.

“How were you injured? What are you here for?” Mando asked curiously.

“Imperial shootout…..I was on a hunt. Clearly, it worked out well for me. Bounty got away...and I got fuckin’ hurt.”

“Imperial troops have been crawling on the planet since Moff Gideon decided to show his face here...you’re a fool to think they wouldn’t come for you, too.”

“No one really told me the place was crawling with Imps!”

Mando scoffed and rolled his eyes under his helmet, “should’ve known better.”

“Oh yeah, like you haven’t ever had a run in with trouble. You know, you’re not exactly known as the best guy in the galaxy because of what you did with this guy,” you said while motioning to the Child.

“Don’t look at him like that.” The Child tilted his head when looking up at you.

“Sorry….didn’t know you were that..protective. Well listen...I’ve gotta get off this planet. I’ve got another job and I just need transit.”

“I’m not a taxi driver,” Mando replied coldly. 

“I can give you half of what I was supposed to get on this job. But listen, I really need to go.”

“Fine. But don’t think about starting any trouble while you’re here.”

“Deal,” you tossed a few credits towards his direction.

You took a seat in the copilot’s chair, hoping to relax after the shootout you just endured. An awkward silence settled in the air. You were practically strangers. You shared moral code, but knew nothing of the others’ personal lives or backgrounds. Looking curiously over at Mando, searching for any response, which you received none. 

You opted for the awkward silence.

The silence continued for hours until you decided to drift off to sleep for a few hours. Your head landed on your shoulder, soft intakes and releases made a gentle pattern coming out of your helmet. You stirred from your sleep when you felt something tug at the material of your flight suit. You looked down to see the small green creature looking up at you with wide eyes. You scooped him up to sit on your lap before falling back asleep.

A few hours later, you arrived at your destination. The Mandalorian easily landed the ship, and you left without concern. You handed a few credits over to Mando, which he declined.

“We’re supposed to help our kind...you can always repay the favor.”

“Of course. Thanks for the transit.”

“Anytime,” Mando boarded the Razor Crest with the Child and continued on his journey to return the Child to his people.

//Idk what you’d call “positive vague blogging” but dang it I’m going to start the trend. I’m still full of feels today so be prepared for me to just gush about people I love vaguely off and on.

Like, there’s this person in my life who is also here on Dumblr and we’re both slow af but full to the brim with ideas we’re just throwing our muses together like spaghetti now to see what sticks and I love the weird combinations we’ve come up with.

There’s this other person who will be coming back to indie eventually and we’ve known each other 5ever and literally she is responsible for how well and detailed I write my FFVII and FFXV people bc we just split the casts down the middle and started writing and never looked back.

There’s another person who is Just. So. Enthusiastic. omg I love her enthusiasm and keysmashing and all the feels about our ships and what-might-be and I am hoarding some great ask prompts I promise I will write them as soon as my brain returns from war FFXV land, but I don’t feel pressured bc I know she knows aaaaaaaaaaall about fixating on FF. 👀

And then there’s also this other person who is on Tumblr but we’ve mostly been writing off Tumblr on Discord and oooooooooooohmygod, we’re both prolific fanfic authors and it shows in our rps? Like, over 100K? Maybe over 200K by now. In rp. And I have been given such gifts in her writing with me and giving me all these feels, even the angst bc there’s comfort after the hurt and oh my word I love it???

How am I so blessed? That’s only four of you there are so many more just slkdjghskljdh. I love you all and I hope you know that. 💜

"so they shipped the lesbians who had no interest in each other" !!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you! Riley and Abby don't even live in the same state, were people seriously thinking they should have ended up together? Like, the actresses were both hot yes, and the characters got along, but is that really all it takes? We know nothing about Riley. She could already have a gf for all we know. Idk, I just wanted to rant.

I mean, it is so refreshing for once to see a friendship between gay people. Abby never had any interest in Riley and, even if Riley was interested in Abby, I’m pretty sure she was respectful enough to avoid any unnecessary drama. 

Riley stealing her ex’s girflfriend is just petty and Abby running into the arms of the first lesbian she sees is not good behavior at all. I didn’t see anything romantic between them, even though they were both extremely attractive. But that’s just it. Abby’s relief at meeting Riley had a lot to do with common experiences and basically nothing to do with “get in my pants”. 

I’m going to say that people are free to ship whoever they want. And I wouldn’t have minded seeing “Riley & Abby 5ever” in the Happiest Season tags. But it didn’t go that way. People instead tried to build Riley up, when there was absolutely no need, by bringing Harper down, in order to justify that ship. And now I’m generalizing, but I’m sure there are people out there shipping them in a normal way. Whatever happened since the release of this movie is not normal shipping.

People are allowed to like or dislike any character and they don’t have to provide reasons for it, but after a couple of posts it turned into mob mentality against Harper because she’s Satan. 

I’m going to say this again: outing Riley in high school was shitty; treating Abby like she did was shitty. But she’s not the devil. If that’s enough for you to dislike her, you’re free to do so but responding to people with “nah she’s trash” or “abby should’ve ended up with riley because harper is manipulative” is just plain wrong and immature and you missed the entire point of the movie. 

Some of that fault, I already mentioned, rests on the shoulders of poor character building, because they should have shown and established Harper as a better person than what we see after they get to the house in order to make her more sympathetic (we are told she’s better than that, but we don’t really get shown). 

But writing faults aside, why did this have to become a discourse when it could’ve just been, “hey! nice christmas movie, too bad abby ended up with harper in the end, i was really rooting for abby and riley”.
