Question about your Teenage Mutant What Now AU!

Has Leo always just been in puberty blockers since forever? Because I'm assuming he never had a period in his life because, well, reptiles menstruation is laying eggs

Kinda! I've actually thought about this a lot because I had the same question and went back and forth on it for a while. tldr; Leo has been on puberty blockers for the past three+ years and has never had a full menstrual cycle, but he does menstruate rather than lay eggs, at least when he's under the effect of his bracelet. Further details abt Leo's trans experience and how the cloaking crystals work below!

Leo has been on puberty blockers since he turned twelve and went on them before he had his first period. As we've established, Yoshi just kind of discovered that Leo was afab when he put the cloaking bracelets on them for the first time and was like "fuck it I don't have the time to unpack this right now you're Leo and you're my son whatever lesgo," and that was just kinda that and everyone involved was always just down with Leo being Leo. Leo certainly never had a problem with it, and he never felt any desire to switch over to being a girl and would get pretty upset if anyone (such as teachers or other parents) suggested he may be female. As such, Yoshi has always just treated Leo as his son and is more than willing to defend him from anyone who ever questioned his identity. His brothers, likewise, have always been very defensive of Leo and quite frankly were usually confused as children if anyone tried to say Leo was their sister. 'Cause??? Like??? Literally no he's not??? He's always been our brother???

When Leo was around eleven Yoshi did sit him down to actually talk to him about it in-depth, like, 'I love you no matter what and I support your choices but we've never actually for-real talked about this and I wanna make sure this is something that you want and not just something that you went along with,' (Leo, of course, at that point doesn't realize WHY he 'came out as trans' when he was five, he just kind of figures that he must have made the decision to start presenting as masc and go by 'Leo' when he was very little and doesn't remember it now,) as well as discuss the option of puberty blockers with him and ask if that's something he wants. And Leo is 1000% like. YES, I'm sure I'm a boy and YES I want to go on puberty blockers so very much I've been dreading the concept of puberty for months now pleeeesssase let's do that. So... they do, and that's that!

(And Yoshi would have gone along with whatever Leo said, but internally he's like, OH THANK GOD, because he's also like ?!?! How tf would turtle puberty translate?! Would the cloaking crystals cover that??? Surely my son wouldn't lay FUCKING EGGS but holy shit what if he did and would I be morally obligated to warn him just in case--!?!)

I do think that the cloaking crystals cover menstruation, however. In this AU, the cloaking crystals (at least the ones the Hamatos have) do provide an active transforming effect rather than just a 'disguise.' I don't think it could really work otherwise! It's definitely not a 100% transformative effect, though, and their true biology still plays a major influence on them. (ie they get cold easily! They swim really well and can hold their breath for a long time! They're naturally more athletically inclined than most other kids and a lot hardier! etc. etc. etc.) but I don't think it would leave gaps as big as to let them lay eggs or anything like that, just like it doesn't allow them to shed their skin or to go into full brumation. It's also worth noting that they're turtle mutants, but they're not full turtles. They're half-human, too! So who's to say if Leo would lay eggs even if didn't have the cloaking crystals or the puberty blockers? He does end up having one little baby period right after he goes on blockers, which is not super uncommon, and is very dramatic about it, but April big-sisters him through it and he hasn't had any since. In the fic he is currently in the process of starting testosterone in the near future, which is something that will be discussed/explored in later chapters!

Chapter 12: Father Knows Best

Dinner was fairly uneventful as Amy chattered away about the doctor’s appointment, starting from scratch with baby stuff, and how to go about telling their friends. Sonic didn’t say much, but watched Aurora, who was lost in thought. 

“Rory, are you okay?” Amy asked, interrupting her thoughts.

Aurora took a deep breath and plunged into what had been on her mind lately. “While everybody is here together, I wanted to talk to you about something.”

“What is it, Honeybunch?” asked Amy, shifting uncomfortably.

“We’ll, since I’ve got a job, and… what with the new baby and all… I think I’d like to get my own place.”

Two faces stared at her from across the table, lost for words. The third looked surprised, yet pleased. Was that a slight grin playing at the corner of Shadow’s mouth?

Aurora looked back at her parents. “Please don’t freak out! It won’t be far away!” she rushed to say. “I’ve got some pamphlets and stuff upstairs to show you.” Aurora jumped up and ran to the stairs, worried that it was a bad time to mention this. As soon as she reached her room, she realized the information was in her bag by the door. Sneaking back down the stairs, she listened as everyone else continued to talk.

Sonic was pacing the room. “She’s never lived by herself before. What if it’s too dangerous?”

“Maybe she could move in with Sticks,” Amy said. 

“And risk being kidnapped and taken off grid?” replied Sonic. “Not a chance!”

“Maybe Knuckles and Rouge could use a live-in nanny for Ruff and Tumble,” she suggested.

Shadow rolled his eyes.

“I’m not sure that Rouge would be a good influence,” Sonic said, “but I did hear that the Widow Vandersnout is looking for a roommate.”

“That woman is still alive?” Amy asked in surprise.

Shadow could keep silent no more. “Aurora doesn’t want to live with some geriatric shut-in!”

“You got any better ideas, Casanova?” Sonic asked through gritted teeth.

“Look, I know I don’t have much say in the matter, but she’s a grown woman,” Shadow began. “And as much as you want her to stay here, she needs to have a little freedom to make her own decisions.” 

Sonic objected. “What do you know about it, Shadow? You don’t have any kids! Aurora needs protection!”

“From what?!” Shadow spat back. “Her overbearing father?”

“I just don’t want her to be alone, that’s all,” Sonic seethed.

“Then she can move in with me,” said Shadow.

Sonic clenched his fists. “Over my dead body!”

“That can be arranged-“

“BOYS!!” Amy yelled. Her voice took on a low, threatening tone. “I am sick. I am tired. I feel like I swallowed a WATERMELON! If the two of you don’t stop your arguing, I am going to PUMMEL each of you until you can’t see straight!”

Just then, they all looked up to see Aurora staring at them wide-eyed. She backed up a few steps, then took off up the stairs and into her room again. 

“Well, that went well,” said Amy, standing to go after her. 

But Sonic held up a hand. “Let me talk to her,” he said quietly. Then he began preparing himself for the hardest conversation of his life.

Sonic trudged up the stairs and knocked softly on Aurora’s door.

She was standing at her window staring at the moon. “Tiny?” he said softly, closing the door behind him. “Sorry about that down there. I guess we all got kinda carried away.” Sonic scratched the back of his neck and gave a sheepish smile. 

When she still didn’t say anything, he moved closer and placed a hand on her shoulder. “I’m sorry, Rory. We’ve all had a lot to process this evening.”

“Daddy?” she said, wiping her eyes. “What should I do?” 

Sonic felt a pang of sadness stab his heart, but he answered truthfully. “You should do what your heart is telling you to do,” he replied softly. 

“I just kind of figured you might need this room now,” she said, gesturing behind her. “You know, for the baby?”

“Tiny…” Sonic said, turning her around to face him. “Is that what this is about?” He pulled her into a hug. “The baby could never replace you. You’re far too special.  You’ll always be my Tiny - my sidekick, my-“

“By the way, you’re having a boy,” Aurora snuffled into his shoulder. “He’s the spitting image of you.” She looked up at her father and fresh tears poured down her face.

“How did you…?” Sonic asked, baffled.

Aurora managed a small smile. “I’ve been dreaming of him. I thought he was you.” She smiled wider as she remembered the dream about the tiny blue hedgehog tripping over his own feet learning how to walk.

Sonic watched her closely, considering the words he should say. “Tiny, I love you. And this will always be your home, whether you live here or not. And this will always be your room, even if it’s just to stay during the holidays. And you will always be my free babysitter when your mom needs a night on the town.”

Aurora burst out laughing. Wiping her face, she finally made a decision. “Here’s what I’ll do. I’ll stay and help for a little while since Mom’s still sick, and make the transition slowly.”

Sonic swallowed the lump in his throat. “That sounds like a good plan, Tiny.”

Okay so I’ve been having brain rot over MP100 ageswap!au but with Reigen and Mogami as friends. Here’s some of my headcannons so far.

Reigen has known Mogami sense he was 5yrs and can kinda sense his aura. But thinks that he’s just associating certain smells/colors with him.

Mogami’s aura feels more ‘friendly’ or ‘not as dangerous’ to Reigen then it might for others. (This fic describes how I would imagine Mogami’s aura)

Reigen either knows that Mogami is a psychic or is told by Mogami that he is one and they figure out/test out his abilities together.

The first time that Mogami astral-projects it gives Reigen a heart attack. And that causes Reigen to repeatedly poke his deadweight body with a stick ‘As revenge.’ until Mogami can find his way back into his body.

Mogami despite being a spirit (he’s not dead, but his spirit is out of his body) whacks him upside the head for that.

‘Hey! I’ll have you know that my reaction was justified! The way your body just….ragdolled was freaky’

‘So you poked my body multiple times without knowing what might of happened?’

‘Would you rather I had tried to get you to respond by pouring water on you or something?’

‘…I should’ve hit you harder…’

I love the idea of Ritsu, a grown ass adult, having beef with Reigen….But can you imagine the hilarity of Mogami having beef with Teru?

Like the first time they meet Teru, Mogami immediately tries to either exercise or de-curse him because:

‘There is no way in hell that someone made a conscious decision to wear that. I refuse to believe it.’ 

Reigen doesn’t try to stop him. He’s too busy trying to get his eyes to work again from seeing, in his words,

‘The ugliest, biggest, and most hurtful fashion disaster since Cat in the Hat, Barney and Chuck E Cheeze.’

Teru is frozen. He sheds a single tear while his remaining pride is verbally demolished by two 14 year olds. Shou, Dimple, and Tome can be heard cackling in the background. Even Ritsu let’s out a laugh.

‘Like your one to laugh Ritsu—”

‘What did you just say to me you child!?’

Ritsu had to be stopped from throwing hands by Dimple. Shou and Tome were to busy wheezing on the floor to do anything, while Teri was still having a crisis.

Mogami knows a lot of oddly terrifying knowledge about birds and bugs. No one know where he gets this information.

Reigen likes asking him questions/listening to him talking about them because it’s one one of the few times that he is the listener, but also because it’s only of the few times that Mogami outwardly looks genuinely passionate and happy.

They both have influenced each other’s mannerisms.

Mogami’s one is when he’s exasperated he copy’s Reigen hand gesture and does this. Or this.

Reigen’s one is his deadpan stare/unaffected look that he is almost always seen having on his face. Except when, y’know, he doesn’t.

Reigen still is unbeatable at rock, paper, scissors. And yes, Mogami will die mad about that. It one of the few things that he will put aside his grudges against someone for.

‘Listen up Teruki Hanazawa, because I will only say this once. DO. NOT. CHALLENGE. ARATAKA. TO. A. ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS. GAME.’

‘Wha—’

‘I am only telling you this for your own sake….and so you can’t say I didn’t warn you.’

Mogami then walked away without saying anything else with a murder of crows deciding that, that specific moment was the time to caw ominously. And leaving a confused and slightly terrified Teru behind.

i usually dont post uncolored drawings/doodles but i plan on making a few of these

HUGE thanks to my buddies for help/input on these..both are huge brained and awesome at art follow them now

heres the thought process (spoiler free, mostly based on patho 2)

me and my buddies were in a call for all of these and we had a very intellectual conversation about all of them. when looking for furry designs i usually think of personality, mannerisms, and likeness.

Aglaya, Shoebill

both of the friends i asked havent played the game past day 5 (one of them is on day 2) so i asked “what animal would she be” with just a picture of her model. i was interested to see what 2 people who’ve only seen her once (in the intro) would think of her purely on vibes and brief dialogue. the first suggestion was “some kinda bird” and that seemed to stick.

a bit tall, a bit intimidating. so we threw out Herons, Ostriches, Peacocks…

Shoebill seemed to fit. I wanted a bird that was either grey or black, some kinda desaturated color but also one that was tall and a bit scary. Shoebills are definitely considered pretty scary. theyre also super tall and i remember saying in the call "these things are huge if i saw them flying i would cry." when it comes to shoebills, i imagine them towering over most other animals, especially with that neck and beak! they're also ambush predators i believe. shoebills fit Aglaya's first impressions perfectly.

i almost made her a Dalmatian... im glad i didnt...

Rubin, Skinny Pig

I wasn't even going to initially draw Rubin here... it started by me asking "who'd be a naked mole rat?" and the immediate answer was "Rubin..." which made me remember that he was bald LMAO. I figured that fit a little, and the original drawing was him as a naked mole rat. a few things werent quite right though.

first, digging. i cant imagine Rubin as an animal who's entire thing is digging around and being dirty, he's a doctor and, other than blood, i can't imagine he'd wanna be dirty...

second, social groups. as far as i know, naked mole rats are very social within their own circles? just from the early game (as early as the first 3 days?) he's pretty antisocial and seems to have a distaste for the Kin, even if influenced by grief(the emotion not the person). he even seems reluctant to be close to close friends.

and, of course, moles have to be saved for someone else... we'll get there. WINK

..i dont remember how Skinny Pigs came up, i think i was just googling them and thought they were funny since i have a friend who owns some.. i did a bit of googlin and asking my buddy in the call about skinny pig mannerisms.. theyre pretty...territorial? at least males to other males, theyre pretty aggressive as far as i know. this definitely fit Rubin. the OTHER reason for any kind of guinea pig was considered was because of the concept of "test guinea pigs" and not in a literal sense, but just the concept, because of Rubin's connection to Isidor. i will say i felt like the smartest person on earth when i thought of that.

also the cute ears absolutely influenced the decision.

Lara, Generic Ass Wolf

Lara was genuinely so difficult... unlike the other two, there were literally no suggestions being thrown out. my description was something like "maybe something small, cute, short tempered, but social?" and, for some reason, that was a tall order. my first guess was a mouse, but that wasnt perfect... we thought we'd have to turn to bugs and fish, though a lot of bugs and fish are hard to find personalities for.. at a surface level at least. we decided to save bugs and fish for other people...

and then, the suggestion of "wolf" came up, albeit reluctantly. when it comes to furry-fying characters, wolves and dogs are definitely...up there, in terms of "most used/obvious".. but really, think about it.

Believe it or not, wolves can be a little anxious, if not in a way that presents itself as anger/defense. this is also how i described Lara, "anxious in a way that presents as anger." also, wolves, while sometimes being a little solitary, are commonly in packs. which is...Lara's, like, Whole Thing. a house for the living etc etc..

I don't think i need to explain wolves too much either way. theyre The Furry Animal. whatever you know about wolves is probably true for Lara. it seems low-effort but trust me this decision took forever LMAO

and i mean...look at her. she looks like a wolf

*Artemy here is a bull because... yeah. that's the most obvious one. as #1 artemy fan i couldn't in good conscious make him anything other than a bull even if it's low effort idgaf... ill look at types of bulls for him later.

disclaimer: I haven't read the novels, also these aren't character analysis, just my reasoning for why i put them in this category, also please add onto it if you disagree or have anything to say ^^

Lawful Good

Sakura Ogami: She always takes decisions that she considers to be the best for the people around her : trying to proctect her dojo by accepting to work with Monokuma or committing suicide and making sure to write a letter explaining to everyone why she did it as to resolve the situation and create a more peaceful atmosphere among them.

Kyoko Kirigiri: She has good intentions and i feel like what pushes her to act is kind of a "i can do it therefore i should do it" mindset.

Chihiro Fujisaki: Cute baby sunshine, never did anything wrong in their life.

Ishimaru Kiyotaka: He's the Ultimate Moral Compass, pretty self-explanatory.

Naegi Makoto: A genuinely good person who tries his best to be kind.

Neutral Good

Aoi: We can see during chapter 4 that she put her personal beliefs above all else but even if she tried to kill everyone i still think that she is a good person.

Toko (Ultra Despair Girl): If we were talking solely about THH i would've put her in Neutral Evil since she doesn't care about anyone but herself and is pretty mean (also something that i find very interesting during the 4th trial is that even if throughout the game she seems totally devoted and in love with Byakuya + her obvious lack of self esteem she still chose to defend herself when she thought Genocide Jack had killed Sakura which could've led to his death), but the character development she gets in that game is golden so yeah.

Chaotic Good

Mondo: Feel free to disagree with me on that because of the fact that he killed Chihiro who very much did not deserve it but contrary to what Naegi says in the game it absolutely wasn't a cold blooded murder, himself stating that he blacked-out while killing them. I still chose to put him in good because otherwise he really tried to do the right thing (protecting Chihiro's secret by moving their body or even when in the anime he covered Mukuro's bldy with his coat it showed that he was a kind person) + we also know that he uses his influence to minimize tensions between gangs.

True Neutral

Byakuya: I feel like his god complex makes him kind of uncapable to relate to other people and consider their struggles on the same level as him so he doesn't care about anyone + we saw during the 2nd trial that he definitely can't be described as a good person. I truly feel like he couldn't care less about rules or moral implications as he considers himself above it.

Leon: His actions only seem to be motivated by what he wants in that moment without a lot of reasoning behind it, like changing from baseball to music or killing Sayaka when he could've totally ran away after she tried to kill him.

Chaotic Neutral 

Sayaka : I feel like she's morally neutral in the way where she's so goal-oriented that she doesn't care too much about the means to get to an end (which is also implicate in her backstory) but she's aware that what she does might bad : she was willing to let everyone die and pin the crime on Naegi but once her plan failed she still made sure to save everyone instead by writing Leon's name.

Yasuhiro : I hesitated to put him in chaotic evil because of the fact that he quite literally could have/tried to kill Sakura + he never was particularly kind to no one in the game and tried to steal money from us during his free time (tbh im still kinda mad at the wasted potential of making him a nice chill guy but well). In the end i went for neutral because i feel like its more a case of picking the worst possible choice than being a bad person, even if he is quite selfish.

Lawful Evil 

Hifumi: The reason i put him in "lawful" is because what convinced him to kill Ishimaru was Celestia accusing him of SA, which is an understandable reason especially paired with the chance to get out happy and with Celestia but he was still willing to sacrifice everyone to get out so lawful evil it is.

Neutral Evil

Celestia Lundenberg: It was pretty complicated but i settled on this alignement if we take the things she tells us at face value (since i've seen a few people saying that she wasn't actually trying to win the game and that's why her plan was so sloppy). I don't feel like she's a bad person but she doesn't care about doing bad things to get what she wants.

Mukuro Ikusaba: That's where me not reading the novels probably makes a difference because i know that she gets more development there but based on the game and the anime i have to put her here, even if she was obviously manipulated by Junko she still seemed to agree with her.

Chaotic Evil

Junko Enoshima: Do i really need to explain ?

Genocide Jack: I mean, she enjoys killing people and has no other reason for what she does.

book recs? if you read. biology books are fine as well.

hiii my dear LOL yes i do read but not that often haha. not sure what genres speak to you but i tried to give a bit of a range!!

i just finished reading "pachinko" by author min jin lee n thought it was really wonderful. it's a story that spans multiple generations from a war era to modern era so it was really interesting seeing the cultural developments, i can tell the author put a lot of research into it. i mean i was already bawling by end of the first chapter and i very rarely actually cry when i'm reading books. the minimalistic style of the writing is so lovely i think this book has most influenced my own writing style. it's a hefty n lengthy book though, but so worth the ride

this one is really popular but def worth the hype "the seven husbands of evelyn hugo"! it's about sort of a marilyn monroe type character named evelyn hugo who was a famous actress (it's all fictional though) and all of her love affairs. i love the unique voice that she has throughout the book, she keeps it super real and so those moments of vulnerability from her end up hitting hard. i so very enjoy the way taylor jenkins reid writes aaa i'm reading another one of her books rn called "one true loves" (although tbh it's not that great so far haha)

a romance i read sort of recently was "before we were strangers" by renee carlino and i liked it!! the angsttt ugh. it's a second chance romance ab two characters who met in uni and then went their separate ways and didn't reunite again until they were in their thirties i believe. i love those types of romances where ppl have had a lot of time away from one another, exploring all the growth inbetween is sm fun. tbh there were so many times i wanted to slap the shit outta both the main characters for their horrendously poor decision making lmfao but i appreciate stories like that bc they feel raw and real. def recommend!

since you mentioned bio books i'll shout out my two faves LOL:

"who we are and how we got here" by david reich. i love this book, it's a really amazing collection of geneticists research to account for all the variations in humans across the world and throughout hundreds of thousands of years of evolution. it touches on why diff demographics are more susceptible to certain illness/disease, w explanations ranging from things such as colonization & racism, social isolation and even early language development!!

"the body" by bill bryson. this one is simple n kind of functions as a lil encyclopedia for the body, including famous discoveries and tips on how to take care of yourself. i think it's both a leisure read and also really educational so i loved it. there's stuff like women's anatomy, history of insulin production and there's even a section on food/metabolism which was my fave. it's all in layman's terms so it's suitable for anyone to pick up

i got kinda carried away w this haha but i hope you enjoy reading if you do read any of them! it's overcast where i live and now i wanna curl up with a book :'')

Day 4: Pride i wrote it on his shirt instead of the black text in the bg like I've done for the past days, since the space is surprisingly occupied Okay so i kinda went crazy with this one... If you wanna read my decisions and thoughts behind this thing feel free to read below the cut !

Anyways, Pride. Bon. Where the hell do i start. I see Bon as a very proud person, at least proud of his craft, at what he excels at, which is playing guitar. SO. Why is he so many colors and shit? Hes the colors of the people closest to him. Friends. Malva/Usagi is the blue, Mangle/Meg is the pink, Toddy's the red, Joys yellow, and Bonnie's purple. All the different colors and expressions represent what they sorta do to Bon? How they affect and influence him n shit... All with his pride at the center of it. Malva/Usagi. Shes his sister, his twin. They are directly compared what feels like constantly to Bon. He's specifically in his school uniform because school is where they show their true personalities most. Where they differ the most. Malva is organized, in control, plans thing out, is a natural leader, book smart. She's always 'on top of it' and mature. All things he feels he lacks/inst enough of. A point of shame and envy within him, at least in comparison to her. Same situation and she can somehow 'handle it all better'. Whether that's all true is a different matter lol. perception and reality am i right? Anyways onto Joy. Yellow. All the toys boost each-others egos and shit, but where Bon and Mangle are comfortable being brutally honest and blunt, but giving genuine compliments is sorta few and sparse, laced in their silly stupid sarcasm and fake hatred of each-other. Joy just says what she wants straight up. If the others are going off, she'll say it, if they're blowing it, she's gonna say it straight up. Shes always energized, and imbues the other two with that same energy. For Bon, Joy is someone who pushes that cocky side of him further out. Full of himself, thinking he's hot shit. (I mean thinking that isn't completely undeserved, hes impressive for his age n shit, but kid has an ego is hat I'm saying lol) She brings out his fiercer energy. She gasses him up, inflates his ego, and his pride gets the better of him and can turn kinda shitty and egotistical and mean ect ect Mangle/ Meg, lol. haha stupid stupid stupid decisions. They are both. very proud of their craft and Mangle is someone who has peen put through and continues dealing with a lot of pain. He pushes through it though. She pushes through her pain, through their days, through everything that's handed to him because she's determined to get through shit and not let things like constant aches and loss of balance hinder him. They'll do what they want and it doesn't matter what hurts. Bon. Was already a dumb-ass with that sorta mentality, but alongside mangle they both push each-others pride to being a detriment to their own health and safety. lol

Toddy. Toddy, Toddy, Toddy. Longtime family friend, has known that blue rabbit family since. ever. okay? Okay. She knows. She just knows what the fuck is up with their house and situation, she's seen Bon at his worst and helped him. Moments he'd rather not be aided, moments he'd rather not be seen. Moments of shame. Along with that shame of being seen, comes the discomfort and shame of being known. They know each other, they do, yet they feel like strangers at the same time. They can hang out and have fun, but they don't click in the same way Bon clicks with the Toys. There's a seed of shame in Bon that he cant be the good friend Toddy wants and needs. The friend she feels she had. The friend she feels she lost somewhere. Bonnie. Bonnie. End of sentence I cant do this anymore I cant fucking tackle that one i cant do it you cant make me- Okay what if you someone really pissed you off. Like super pissed you the fuck off. You have this one thing you're really good at, you have this one thing you you are GREAT at, you consider yourself unmatched. Then you get matched. Then you aren't an untouchable god at your craft. You're tumble down from your pedestal, you ego is more bruised than you can admit. Then he bugs you cause he think you're cool and can teach him shit. Even though you feel like you totally lost just by being matched, and part of you hates it cause he's a walking reminder that you aren't untouchable. but part of you likes it because someones fucking gawking at you and looking at you with admiration, directly. SO you fucking cave and do it and whoops oh shit you kinda vibe with this guy. Shit he likes Zelda. shit hes letting you use is switch cause you mentioned never having played any of the Zelda games even tho you've both been passionately ranting about the games for a while now. Okay. How long is it since I last wrote something on tumblr? Like two years and a half? Right now I’m feeling so overwhelm by mixed emotions I still don’t know where to start. But my intention isn’t to write a long rant.

There is a specific thing that happened in these last two days that lead me to this decision.

Anouma said that it’s the end of the Wild Era and that they won’t make a totk sequel

While a part of me kinda expected this, I cannot help but feel a bitter feeling of sadness. Not because botw was my first Zelda, I still treasure it like it came out yesterday when in reality it’s been more than 4 years. It’s because of how much I expected from totk.

Do you know what they usually tell? Do not rely on expectations.

I made this mistake. I really felt this wait. But… was it actually worth it? Of course I’m not saying that I don’t like this game. It’s just I can’t believe they just left us with all of these plot holes.

When botw came out there were some plot holes as well but at least they overcame them after the Champions Ballad DLC, and it wasn’t even necessary since you got to see more of the characters than you actually do in totk.

Calamity Ganon was a mystery, yes, they didn’t actually tell us why and how it was born, but it felt right not to tell. Botw developers didn’t want players to focus on a distant past (as they did in totk), so it was okay not to fuss about it.

But in totk not only did they focus on a distant past by they purposely showed us some cutscenes of it despite letting the player play in the present. But what do we know about the past?

Absolutely nothing. This game was focused on the Zonai tribe. I remember when people used to make a lot of videos about them and their influence on the Hyrule chronology. But what did they tell us about them? Nothing. We don’t know why they got extinct. We don’t know how Hyrule was born and why they descended from the sky. We don’t know how we got Zelda since both Soniah and Raul died. And I could just mention so many other examples.

And as for Ganondorf? I don’t even know where to start. They purposely made him good looking but at what cost? Why? For the solely purpose of fan service or because it was actually useful for the plot?

Oh, right. What plot? The plot where he just wanted the secret stone just to… be powerful? Okay, I can see that he’s “pure malice” and so on, but come on. Give at least a little bit of context. It’s GANONDORF. And it’s been fifteen years since his last appearance. And what did you do? You made him a one dimensional, boring and flat character…

And do not get me started on the champions descendant and the Depths. I simply don’t want to talk about them because there is nothing to say you don’t already know. 🙃

Anyway, long story short: should they have made a DLC? No. Not necessarily. Or at least that’s what I thought. In the very few hours I read the interview. But given how few much they have done to contribute to the botw plot… yes, maybe they should have.

Well… goodbye Botw era. At least botw did touch me and inspired to create my OC with my own prequel (I will not accept AoC as a prequel since it’s not canon sorry lmao). I just feel sad that after playing totk I just didn’t feel anything. No particular excitement. Nothing.

I just hope the next Zelda chapter will be more than that. Until then, we’ll have to wait.

monster design origins - kirin

hi so thought about making a post or two about design origins of various monsters throughout monster hunter since my hyperfixated ass needs to talk about them, and what better way than to start off with the hard to destroy horsie?

seriously though some of the history behind designs is fascinating and kirin has always stood out to me. disregarding it’s mythological origins, it’s definitely unique amongst other elder dragons in appearance alone. so here’s an overly long post about kirin!

note: the design origins of this mon may have been confirmed in an interview but it would be pretty boring to just go “oh this is what someone said” and more fun to look into how the influences are reflected by the monster itself, even if they’re unintentional!

as some of you may be aware, kirin was one of the first elder dragons ever introduced and is a pretty iconic one. but kind of like fatalis, it stands out more due to how simple the design is (and lore) than most. and no, it’s not just because it’s a horse.

the overall design scheme for each of the elder dragons introduced in mh1 take after a lot of more european/western mythological creatures, although this doesn’t mean it only draws from them, lao-shan lung being an example.

the most european of the three is definitely fatalis, being based on traditional western dragons, lao is a lot more like a drake due to its lack of wings, and kirin takes a lot after a unicorn.

it’s important to note that regardless of place on earth, a lot of dragons take varying forms, most often showing reptilian features. serpentine bodies are more often associated with eastern dragons.

so why is kirin an elder dragon? couldn’t it just be a large monster but the decision to make it an elder dragon was done to keep up with the theming? (yeah that’s likely part of it.)

well… what if i told you kirin isn’t entirely original? rather, it’s existed for a pretty long time.

this is qilin, a chinese mythological creature that also became adapted into japanese mythology, it’s name being translated to kirin. it’s also technically a unicorn, albeit a bit less horsey. if you’ve watched mlp you probably know about them. not only are they a lot more lavish than your typical unicorn, they also are often depicted as having features resembling chinese dragons.

in japan, though, kirin are more often depicted as deer-shaped dragons as opposed to just horses with dragon-like features. the singular horn is definitely a western influence, as there are depictions of it having a singular antler or just a horn.

the thunder aspect is a bit iffy on where it came from. traditionally, both qilin and kirin are said to breathe holy fire. this may be for the sake of elemental diversity, but i’ve also seen a few depictions of it in other media where it summons lightning. closest i can think of is how it’s said to not trample grass, can walk on water, and is often depicted as walking on clouds (hence why kirin in monhun sometimes appears to not be walking on the ground and rather some lightning mist thing, but that seems to only really happen when fighting on grassy terrain).

it’s elusiveness can also be chocked up to more than just the scarcity of unicorns or its status as an elder dragon. qilin are said to walk alongside sages albeit making themselves hidden. and heck the fact that kirin’s fur is prized may also be a reflection of how qilin supposedly bring good luck, which can potentially manifest itself in wealth i assume.

also really wanted to talk about oroshi kirin as, knowing qilin breathe (and are sometimes depicted as being surrounded by) fire, it’s kinda weird that the only subspecies uses ice.

oroshi means “down wind,” referring to wind blown down mountains. mountains are cold and have snow sometimes. yeah. kirin in japanese mythology is treated as sacred and one of the highest beings, so using the orochi term can also be a double meaning, as you’re technically figuratively lower than it. while a bit of a stretch, it may also somewhat relate to yamata-no-orochi, an eight headed serpent of japanese myth that appeared at mount torikama, and since snakes are reptiles and dragons are typically reptilian, yeah x2.

again a lot of stretching as i can’t find much behind why this is. potentially a fire subspecies could happen maybe??? idk it’s pretty interesting to think about.

Apologies for the long rant, but my mind is racing-

A part of me thinks Crosshair is already working for Rex and Ahsoka and Senator Organa's fledgling rebellion.

Ik it's a long shot but just hear me out-

It's what Rampart said to him:

"Funny, isn't it? How clones around you keep disappearing?"

So... What if CROSSHAIR is behind all the AWOL clones? But Rampart has found out about TBB being alive, so what if he's maybe trying to play Crosshair while Crosshair was maybe trying to play him?

So another thought: What if Crosshair actually isn't siding with the Empire, but is the Luthen Rael of TBB now?

"I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else's future. I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see. And the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude. So what do I sacrifice? Everything!" - Luthen Rael, ANDOR S1:EP10

Crosshair keeps saying he does what needs to be done.

We don't know when or IF Crosshair got his chip out... So that's what's making me kinda iffy on this theory. If it was, I suspect it was early on in S1.

So that would mean he wounded Senator Onn Free Ta, he killed his TK squadron, he killed Governor Tawni Ames, he went above and beyond to show his loyalty to the Empire... But if his chip is out, what makes him different from dummy droids or even chipped regs who can't fight it?

He has to live with it.

We see he's having trouble sleeping. Instead of being with his brothers, he's surrounded by people who don't even want to eat a meal with him. He suffers degradation from his superiors and is not even a ranking officer anymore, and apparently went 32 rotations before being so graciously rescued by the Empire Rampart distinctly told him... left him for dead.

He knows he's worth nothing to them. He knows he'll never be considered a big part of the Empires predicted success. He'll be used and discarded.

But what if Crosshair's first act of saving clones from the Empire was making them think his own family was dead and they have no clue, he just made them think he was siding with the Empire since they refused and he didn't want them to know anything to protect them in the end?

But what if Crosshair was already working for the Rebellion in the last episodes of S1? And he wanted to recruit his family into the Empire because like he and Rex said, their squad could be a tremendous asset? They could help people?

This theory makes me nervous tho, for there always comes a time where the person on the inside gets found out... And die somehow.

More recently, Tala Durith (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Lieutenant Gorn (ANDOR) to name a few.

In conclusion, in this episode, I saw smth different in Crosshair which is also why I've created this double-crossing theory. To me, he didn't look like the emotionless regs under the influence of the inhibitor chip. He looked kinda shifty. Wary. His obedience both in tone and physical demeanor seemed forced. And the way he and Commander Cody interacted in front of the Memorial, it was almost as if they were speaking in code. I don't believe Cody approved of Crosshair's ways on this mission. He was disappointed, obviously, and I think wants Crosshair to fight in a different way of their aware of each other's double-crossing, hence his parting words:

"You know what makes us different from battle droids? We make our own decisions. Our own choices... And we have to live with him too."

Cody made the decision to flee... He may be regretting it now seeing the extent Crosshair went to ensure he could if he was told to contact Crosshair by a trusted ally. He wants Crosshair, who apparently does think for himself, to think more carefully. He might not want Crosshair to feel what he might be feeling now: not liberated, but loathing. Himself.

Ofc I'm aware of the second theory: Cody has suffered the same fate as Wilco... So when Rampart says this to Crosshair, maybe this means that there's been lots of deaths in the Clone Army, and Cody is dead like them now. And what Rampart said to him is a veiled threat that the tiniest of slip up will result in the same fate for Crosshair. Heck, he'll probably push and pull him a few times for fun, he probably doesn't mean to keep him around for long

i truly didn’t believe you when you said that harry would not be going anywhere after this tour ended. there was just no way in mind that after over two years of crazy touring, two movies, an album, the worst stunt of his career (imo), being over exposed by the media, and everything else in between that he wouldn’t want to take a break for at least a year. no way that he’d keep going and possibly have another project up his sleeve (tbd for now but looking more and more likely). no way that he enjoyed all of this so much that he wouldn’t rest and instead, just wanted this same cycle to continue… so, i just wanted to say that you were right, and it’s honestly been difficult to cope with that reality because it does change some things that i thought were true about who he is. and that feels harsh saying because at the end of the day, it’s my fault for creating this image in my head of who i thought he was. but there’s also parts of me that feel a bit led on or maybe even lied to (idk??) just certain things that gave me hope or that i justified but can’t anymore. it’s not his management or label and it’s definitely not because of his closet either. it’s him making these decisions for the purpose of his career and influence and money and i just hate that harrystylesTM is blending with the harry in my mind. and making me question how genuine some of the things he’s said and done actually were. you know if it makes him happy then ok, i get it. if he thinks all of this is justified then ok. but i just can’t bare to see him make these choices and then be miserable while stunting or try to gay/larry code or make music videos where we’re supposed to feel sorry for him. i still will tbh because god, i really do think he needs some better friends, a hug, and some help, but you make your bed and you lay in it. it’s his choice, and he chose the direction that even a week ago, i would’ve never predicted. so all in all, just wanted to say you were correct and it’s definitely made me think about things differently…

Ouch this is a difficult ask to respond to because the risk is to sound like an ‘I told you so’ kinda person (which I absolutely am but don’t want to now).

So mh, I think most people fall for the marketing and brand not just in this fandom, it’s about the current publicity and media distribution, when in reality that thing is full of crap, delivered by smart people whose job is literally selling things to you.

In US consumerism, the lesson n1 is ‘make it sensational’. The minimum most average thing becomes giant, incredible, out of this planet. When they put tickets for the last show last year on sale, they didn’t mention the ‘final show’ thing. This was clearly planned for later on, when there were two big zones in campovolo that weren’t sold out yet, they put on the final show label. It was smart because people bought the tickets in the fear of ‘Harry styles not going on tour again for years’ and for a fandom that is used to consume him like I consume tomatoes everyday even when I have tummy ache, this was unimaginable. I personally spoke with people from Brazil, Miami, Minnesota. They made it an event.

The end of an era, fandom called it. And of course, FOMO is real for this generation lmao

But I also speak always about the power of words, right? I think your brain chooses words automatically to convey a state of emotions and that is something that all the media training in your life can’t hold back. I am still pretty sure Harry knows that power too, since writing songs is his job I would expect he knows the nuance that lays in the difference between every word. And there words that have been said in a peculiar timing that made neurons in my head spike like fireworks. I didn’t rewatch what he said that night and I’m not a forensic language expert lol but there were moments where you could feel like you were living the Truman show experience.

I am sorry you feel like this, though. I know it’s harder here (unbearable on twt) because it seems nobody is matching your feelings, but I hope you will make peace with this.

My two cents is to let it go, let him go.

Another album, another tour who cares? They will feed it down your throat, everyone and their mothers will pretend to like it because that’s the easiest thing that gives you 1M views on tiktok and they will made up new achievements purposely crafted ad hoc for the whole picture.

Hey, I can put all my pin-up pictures in one post now!

I spent a couple of weeks drawing these, sometimes trying multiple poses until finally they looked right, and then I had to travel to scan the pictures... and the scanner was really wonky. It washed out certain colors, while over-saturating others. It was just really weird. So, the only solution was to try to edit and fix the scanned images on my computer, and since I only have MS Paint with no layers, this was a challenge. I basically had to add the colors, then go over my lines so they would be clear, and finally erase around the edges. It took another few days to fix them all, but I did it!

(some descriptions for each character design below)

Church gave me the most trouble… and why wouldn’t he? This CHURCH, after all. He lives to be difficult. I knew I wanted him to have the “mud-flap babe pose”, but I kept messing up his face, and didn’t realize how bad I messed up until after I inked and colored it in… at one point, I tried to re-draw the face and cut out the one that didn’t work, and paste the two pieces of paper together. It wasn’t worker, so I finally just traced over my own lines, did the face all over again, and he looked half-way decent. SO, I’m done with Church! Look at that smug expression, he knows he’s a jerk. Seriously though, I love how he turned out!

When it comes to his design, I have my whole RVB story-line with a scenario in which Church and Tex get to come back with synthetic human bodies (specifically, when the Epsilon AI was deconstructed, all of the data from his memories WENT somewhere; it was downloaded back into the original AI units, which weren’t “dead” after the EMP, just deactivated. revived by Epsilon’s data, all the AI were able to reactivate, including Alpha! now HE is the one who is carrying on with the memories another part of him left behind… whoops, that’s sad, but don’t worry! he now also has the chance to feel better~). His was based on the DNA of the Director, but he’s not a clone, exactly. There’s a similarity for sure, but they’d probably look more like brothers. Church is considerably shorter, and even when he was “fresh out of the oven”, he’s more chunky too. As time goes on and he’s able to eat REAL FOOD, Church gets nice and chubby. He also wanted to be strong enough to actually pick Tex up, so that was his whole motivation for muscles. He has fairly long hair at first, and later cuts and styles it to this (imagine it feels like a silky-soft hedgehog). He wound up with some face-fuzz, and wasn’t sure of he should keep it or not… he doesn’t want to seem like he intentionally looks like the Director, but also? If he tries to avoid looking like him on purpose, he’s still letting that dude influence his decisions. Church finally asked Carolina (only fair, because she has to look at him), and she said it kinda suits him, especially since he has a squared jaw. So, the face-fuzz stayed~

The first rule of face-designs for RVB characters; Tucker is the prettiest. This is law. He definitely is really into the whole romantic-pose thing, so he’s both flirty and totally relaxed. “Yeah, I know, you want me. Don’t worry, plenty of Tucker for everybody!”. I like imagining his features as being a little aquiline, but still soft (he’s one of those people who looks about 10 years younger than he actually is, and even when he’s an old man, he’ll barely look 40).

He is indeed a manlet short king, thank you very much. He wasn’t always so muscular, but after training with Wash, Tucker has some definition going on (glorious calves, after all). I think the main thing with him that I keep in mind, is; yeah, in the beginning, he definitely wasn’t an “ideal fighter”, but he’s proven to not only be capable, but FANTASTIC… and it isn’t just about fighting. It isn’t just flirting, either. Tucker genuinely has so much depth, and a thoughtful side that makes him really care about people. So, even when I draw him looking strong, or confident, I want him to have a gentle touch in there~

When I thought about what kinda pose I wanted for Tex, I knew she had to be FLEXING, obviously. For the rest of the body, I used reference for some drawings I did many years ago in a Human Figure class, with models who posed while we sketched. I always liked the way this one sketch I did showed the line in the back follow all the way down the leg, so I elaborated on this for Tex. I really wanted something to show the full body, and standing up so you get the feel for how imposing/intimidating she is. I think she’d approve~

Like Church, I imagined a scenario in which she gets to return in a synthetic human body, hers being based on the DNA of Allison (rather than turning out identical, they simply share similarities). Ironically, Tex looks more like Carolina than Allison did (I like to think Carolina takes after a great-grandmother on her mom’s side, and Tex just kinda wound up inheriting those traits in her new body, too). Tex is very TALL, and once she was able to, she was determined to get BUFF. Tex is a built like a brick house, heck yeah!

I wanted to do another full-standing pose for Caboose to really show how tall he is. For a while, I wasn’t sure what to do with his hands... like, him holding them up over his head didn’t seem to work, on his hips didn’t look right... finally, I sketched them clasped behind his back, and it was perfect! Nice and casual, but also really cute. It also show’s off his arms REALLY good~

Like a lot of people, I imagine Caboose as being BIG. It just kinda fits with how strong he is, and since I made Tucker and Church both tiny, Caboose can totally life them both up on his shoulders! Little boy blue? Nah, big boy blue! Sarge is tiny too, so I love the idea of him standing next to Caboose, who is his favorite Blue (Caboose is son-boy). Caboose is also pretty comfortable with himself, so I just wanted him to calm and happy. He deserves it~

We never got a good look at Wash back in Project Freelancer, but at some point, somebody came up with blonde-freckle-man, and a lot of us latched onto it. I am no exception… and I really went all-out with his freckles! It was once mentioned that he grew a beard, so I decided to keep that. It is a little more full and fluffy than I usually draw it, but hey- maybe he’s growing it out a bit. That foot ticked me off, but whatever, I’m done with it. Also, yes; I gave him a catboy pose~

I imagine Wash also being tall, and fairly lean. Certainly athletic, but also agile. The dude has also been all over the map in terms of his character arc; Freelancer Dork, Mr Serious Recovery One, Villain Guy, Church Impersonator, and finally- a dork yet again, but now he’s more comfortable to be one! After living with the Reds and Blues, he’s found a way to sort of… not feel awkward about being awkward? It makes sense when you know this group. Also, I’m not sure how much I would elaborate on it in my story-line… but I kinda lean toward trans Wash~

Kai was actually the first one I did (originally, the only one... but then I kept going haha). I had this specific pose in mind for her that I thought was really cute. Somehow, the sketch turned out alright on the first try, and after I added all the ink and color, it was still good! The process I used to draw her was repeated for each picture; pencil sketch, then go over the lines I like with this one almost-dry brown marker (honestly, it looks like drawing with charcoal, but thankfully it WORKS like a felt pen. charcoal is so tricky), erase unneeded pencil lines, add more defined lines with the colors I want to use for the character (for Kai, this one goldenrod pen I have), and continue with the details, mixing different pens and colored pencils for the shading. It was a WHOLE thing.

I love how her pose turned out, she really looks like she has actual form. I wanted to express the fact that she is beautiful, and she’s also chubby with stretch-marks, thank you very much. I also imagine she and her bro have like... very fine body hair that you can barely see (seriously, they have baby hair on their arms and legs). As for the hair on her head, man- I LOVE drawing hair, and hers is so pretty! I like how it almost looks like gold~

Sweet Caroline, bah-bah-bah! She’s one of the few characters who shows us her face, so I know what she looks like, but I still wanted to play around with my design of her. I decided short hair works for her (and although I’m just using the aqua-blue here, I imagine that she starts dying it a darker red). She’s usually very tense and tough, so I wanted to let he show a slightly more dainty side with the pose. When I finally figured out how to make legs sort of over-lap in different ways, I started having fun doing poses like this. You can still see her impressive arm muscles, though~

Carolina has definitely taken some battle-damage over the years, with a few scars here and there… also, I think she just doesn’t care about shaving, so enjoy the leg hair! She was arguably the easiest to draw. Thank you for that, Carolina~

I struggled with this pose for quite a while… my fault for deciding on something difficult, but come on! I had to go with a push-up. Also, a one-handed push-up at that, because Sarge has to show off. I actually showed my mom all these pictures as I finished them (and she cracked me up, she’d say “That’s a very cute naked person, honey. Now, go color another one” like I’m drawing unicorns or something haha). When she saw Sarge, she said “He looks like a big silver back gorilla”, and she had no idea how ironic and hilarious that actually is.

I imagine Sarge being the shortest of the group, very beefy and very boxy. He’s also got the most body hair of the group. Plenty of scars as well (the ones on his knuckles are from punching so hard while wearing older armor, his hands would get scraped on the inside. newer armor has better padding). I wanted his face to look smug, like he’s saying “Yes, I know you’re looking at me, I can’t blame you”. As you can see, he doesn’t have much of a butt… and what is there is a tight little brick haha~

Grif obviously needed to have a very chill pose, so he’s kicked-back, relaxing with his legs crossed, and arms folded behind his head. I’m so happy I’ve gotten better at drawing soft mass, because fat characters are beautiful (and as a chubby person myself, I want to do different body-types justice). Grif is indeed a big guy, and although he’s very calm here, I hope you can kinda tell he’s got some strength in that body too.

Like Simmons’ prosthetics, I wanted Grif’s limbs with the skin-grafts to be clear and easy to see. Over the years, his body has sort of “absorbed” the organic tissue Simmons donated, so Grif has evened-out (though you can kinda tell, his lighter foot doesn’t quite match the one he “grew” himself, but he’s not as lop-sided as when the surgery first happened.) Just like Kai, I loved doing the curls in his wavy hair~

Donut was the second one I made after Kai, because he pretty much took over my brain and DEMANDED to be drawn in a pin-up pose. What kind of pose was easy enough to figure out (imagine him spread out on a bead). I totally screwed up on his feet, and didn’t want to re-draw the whole thing… but I also didn’t have white-out, or even white paint. I wound up using this craftwork enamel stuff… which is OK, but really tacky (I don’t mean like it looks bad, but tacky as in it takes forever to dry and stays sticky for too long).

I imagine Donut is what you get if Barbie had a baby with GI Joe; totally adorable, and also impressively buff (especially his arms). His face has the scar from the grenade incident, and after having his hair lop-sided for a while, he started styling with a side-cut and letting the rest grow out. He also has a scar on one of his hands (from when he got hurt from the vehicle). His face naturally makes the cutesy kitty mouth~

If you want to imagine these pin-ups as being for like… and actual calendar that exists within the RVB universe, the only way they could get Simmons to be part of it was by intentionally acting like they weren’t going to include him. This would kick his fears of being ignored into high-gear, so he would INSIST on doing it too. He’s still a little uncertain… so, a shy pose for the shy nakey boy~

I wanted to make sure we could clearly see his cybernetics (and I’m so happy with how the foot turned out). Like a lot of people, I imagine red-head Simmons, and I think he probably had short hair most of his life… but around Chorus he didn’t have time to keep trimming it, and after Iris it totally got away from him. One day he pulls it back, to figure out how much needs to cut off, but instead he went “Oh, pony-tail?”. So yeah, long hair Simmons! He used to be a string-bean too, but years of running around and trying not to die helped him put on some weight (he totally doesn’t even realize he has actual muscles~)

When I decided to do sort of leaned-over pose with Doc, it was hard to make it work… but finally, I had something that looked decent. I also wanted to show a wink and smirk, because O’Malley is there too! He probably would have rather done some kind of pose in a graveyard to look all creepy, but Doc won with the cute pose.

I like the idea of him having really thick, fluffy, and curly hair. Also, a very defined nose. His legs are really strong (being a former track runner and all), but he not as muscular as some of the others. In fact, Grif is the tallest of the short group, with Doc just a little shorter than him (after that is Church, Tucker, Kai, and Sarge). I’m really happy with how all the shapes of his forms turned out, his tummy, his shoulders, his legs~

I really wanted to do an especially cute pose for Locus, because he deserves to feel pretty~ He’s probably about as shy and awkward as Simmons in certain ways (certainly confident when it comes to fighting, but social situations? he’s a dork). So, he’s sort of closed-off here, but hey- popping that leg up, because yes! Locus can have fun, too! His legs turned out really nice too~

We know what he looks like in the show, or at least, what he looked like working with Felix before Chorus. So, I had that to bas his design on. I feel like while Chorus stuff was going on, Locus actually lost a lot of weight, being so stressed-out and not even recognizing how unhappy he was. He’s always been beefy and buff, but now that he has some new friends that actually give a heck, he’s put on some weight, and is just a bit more chubby than he used to be (which is a good thing~)

JJK season 2 episode 20 thoughts! Only three episodes to go

(Manga spoilers too)

I’ve said this a few times, but this is one of the best episodes in the series. It has the best combination of hope, despair, fighting, dialogue, voice acting, etc. that really shows the best of jjk and why I love it!

(Spoilers for the next episode preview below + a screenshot with ID in alt) I just hope that next episode is just as good because the preview looks like it’s covering the rabbit and wolves scene! This content onwards until the end of Higuruma’s trial is my favorite stretch of chapters, so I’m beyond excited. Fingers crossed for a Kenjaku cliffhanger (although I just remembered that Mei Mei scene with Ui Ui in the bed 🥴)

I MISS todo. Before Gojo was unsealed, I remember posting something about how Nobara and him were characters that made it seem like things could be okay and generally give some lighthearted levity. Todo is similar for me, in that his appearance brings a lot of hope and confidence. That said, that’s exactly why I’m not too surprised none of these characters are involved in the story, but I still think we’re way overdue for an actual update on Nobara and Todo. I don’t want their status to be an afterthought at the end of the series or never even touched upon. There’s even Nita’s brother in the recent chapters, but no Todo!

Todo is a fantastic mentor for Yuuji. I’ve already talked about this, but Yuki’s influence shows a lot once you know more about her character. In that way, it’s beautiful seeing him pass that along to Yuuji with his own interpretations and will.

Kinda continuing that, but with Yuki being his mentor, it did remind me of episode 5 of this season, both with Todo and Yuki’s ‘advice’ to Yuuji and Geto, and seeing Geto and Yuuji’s ideals and beliefs be challenged to a breaking point. I love how the anime portrays this—Geto makes his decision, whereas Yuuji’s shadows are still flickering when Todo talks about how they should approach the deaths of their comrades and that Yuuji doesn’t have to fully form a choice right now.

The VOICE ACTING!! Mahito’s VA outdid himself. He’s such an incredible villain and that came across in his voice cracking while berating Yuuji, then his quiet, serious moments. Mahito’s always been a perfect contrast to Yuuji and I love how explosive he gets around him. The VA does great in making Mahito so evil, intelligent, and childish at the same time.

I am obsessed once again with the animators making the line art sketchier to show Yuuji’s emotions!! The range of art from scenes like this to Miwa’s scene was amazing. While there’s been a few times where I preferred the manga in how the show was adapted, I endlessly love how experimental the animators get, since it creates beautiful moments like this entire episode.

Also I love the incorporation of the city shot from the first Jujustu Kaisen opening with the title card. That, and adding in the physical location of the ending for this arc at the end of the episode with the music over it. Such a fun adaption tbh. I wasn’t a big fan of the OST in the Nanami episode, since it was abrupt and didn’t hit as hard as the manga for me, but this episode’s music and lack of it was everything

I could go on about this episode, but I’ll stop myself. Just needed to do my weekly ramble because I can’t get JJK out of my mind

omg i finally remembered to ask this X_X, anyways i remembered you left some interesting tags on one of my posts and i wanted to ask, how do you view yjh's gender identity?

i personally went with the masc-presenting trans lesbian angle since that felt the most "in character" and also had a lot of comedic potential in my au but im very curious about how you've characterized her since it seems like you see her as more feminine so to speak (feel free to make your answer as long as you want jdhfshfdsj i love talking about gender)

Firstly I want to say that I ADORE your au!!! It's definitely influenced some of my headcanons on yjh's gender identity. I did see her as more feminine before but now I see her as comfortable with being masc-presenting and more androgenous. Secondly, I am biologically female and been comfortable with she/her pronouns and presenting femininely my entire life. However, after learning more about the lgbtqia+ community and doing some self-reflection, I realized that I may be under on the non-binary umbrella. I haven't really experimented with my gender identity much. Unlike my romantic and sexual orientation (aroace spectrum), which I felt a connection to as soon as i learned what it was, and felt the urge to do more research on it, my gender was more ambiguous to me. I didn't really feel a strong connection to it, or rather, I felt a strong disconnect to it. I feel like I should insert a cool metaphor here. It's like a cloud? I can see different shapes from it, but I can't get closer or touch it. It's amorphous and not solid, and I can't get a good grip on it. I like being feminine, but I like being referred to with they/them pronouns, and also get gender envy (?) from more androgenous male characters. I'm comfortable with having no labels as of now, but I'd like to experiment with my appearance and pronouns more irl if I get the chance.

All this to say that I started projecting onto Yoo Joonghyuk lol. Kinda funny because usually i project my aroace-ness and neurodivergence onto my blorbos, not my gender identity, but between Breaking the Sky Swordsmanship and the Punisher it was just too perfect. (actually I've noticed i've been projecting my gender onto more characters since I've fleshed out my headcanons for yjh. It's not a conscious decision, but if someone were to ask me what I thought of [character's] gender, I'd have to pause and go, 'Well, I'm not sure, but they're definitely not cis.' It's actually the same way I come up with my aspec headcanons: 'not sure where exactly you are on the spectrum but I like you way too much to make you allo.')

Another fic that inspired my interpretation of yjh's gender is this fic, https://archiveofourown.org/works/42593688/chapters/106989912, which I love dearly with my entire heart but might not be up your alley. It has a more feminine yjh and romantic yoohankim (if i may dump some more lgbtqia+ headcanons here I hc both yjh and kdj as aspec and yoohankim as a queerplatonic relationship but I am okay with romantic yoohankim mostly because there is so little qpr/aro representation in general. I am also a multishipper and I love your sapphic seolhyuk so much!) and it's a post-epilogue fic with yjh figuring out her gender identity with the support of Kimcom.

So to me, Joonghyuk's gender is similarly ambiguous in nature, the Amorphous Untouchable Cloud of Gender™️, Definitely Not cis, and she's androgynous-presenting. I think she would keep her hair short throughout the scenarios for efficiency, but post-epilogue she'd grow it out. Not a lot, but she would absolutely use her androgyny to fuck with strangers. I think Secretive Plotter with long hair would be great because she'd give me more gender envy than I already have. I don't think she'd have labels for herself. I think she wouldn't like makeup the one time she lets Seolhwa put some on her but everyone agrees that she looks amazing with eyeliner. I think she should be allowed to use Breaking the Sky Swordsmanship on transphobes. I think she uses any pronouns but prefers she/her. I think, had it been canon, her being trans would have added a whole new layer to her character arc and the meta-ness of ORV and its themes of breaking free from predetermined roles, to her role as "protagonist" and the way she breaks free from being a "character" and just... it would have been super cool and I can't write an entire essay on how trans yjh would have improved ORV but I want to.

I kinda want to know about your thoughts of tigerdove family in Asc. Like rowankit. Lightleap and so also about tigerstar. Its messy but the family just reads as being very sad to me.

yeah tbh they’re just goin thru it. i got super attached to rowankit so i’m super sad abt her :( lightleap feels like she’s just coping with everything in tbc and kinda lashing out as a result in some ways, but im glad blazefire is there for her. i wish sunbeam would move on n be friends w her again tbh. (granted i think she’s kinda in a final straw situation w lightleap since it’s been implied this has been going a while so i understand it, she just is holding onto it in places where it feels kinda shitty) tigerstar i have always read as being like my dad (derogatory) so i’m kinda watching this all with mostly feeling bad for his kids. he kinda feels like he’s not actually making any of his decisions and someone is influencing him. pouncestep isn’t getting much and shadowsight’s kinda there but mostly in the bg so she’s getting some rest at least.
