starting to think maybe waking up with an anxiety stomachache every single morning and then needing to spend the entire day trying to get rid of said anxiety just to maybe have a few minutes in the evening of feeling relaxed before going to bed is perhaps not normal
God I really need to relisten to The Adventures of Superman radio show (1941-1951) again and tally the amount of times Jimmy Olson watches a man die in front of him.
Because I started a tally about halfway into my listening of the show and I had a tally of 31.
I listened to only around 20-25 arcs.
And out of those, people died in front of this 14-17 year old copyboy 31 times, often due to brutal gunshot wounds. And because it’s a show from the 40s, it’s never addressed at all.
Genuinely need to make an essay one of these days on the change and development of his character and how it evolved pre-during-post WWII. Especially how he was used as a vessel for pushing the ideology of “self-sacrifice for the greater good” propaganda to glorify the idea of dying for the war for children listening to the show that would soon be drafted. And how he was used to push ideas of religious and racial tolerance post-war.
I don’t tend to nerd out about history stuff a lot on this blog but the whole “media is created by its time, of its time, for its time,” is extremely prevalent during this time with the fact that nearly zero broadcasted radio shows weren’t propaganda to some level.
Something I find funny and cute about Alex is his complicated relationship with headphones.
Like for acoustic sets or live studio performances he needs them but when he’s talking he likes taking them off.
youtube
During this Zane interview he keeps them off even though he’s holding them for a little bit.
youtube
And he has them on in the beginning of this Zane interview from 2011 and then takes them off
youtube
Then in this interview from 2009 he doesn’t wear them at all even though Nick and the interviewer do.

And then I remembered this really old interview from 2007 where he’s doing an album playback and he literally says:
Obviously there are exceptions to this where he wears the headphones for the whole interview but he seems to make a pointed effort a lot of the time to not use them when he’s talking.
tell me your failed/embarrassing flirting stories to make me feel better, i’ll go first: today i said “get out of my way” forgot to say “i’m kidding” then immediately said “bye”
will my mum ever understand that i don’t like talking (as in it’s really physically difficult) sometimes, especially in the morning, and not get upset with me and make me feel guilty about it despite telling her countless times that this is why? 😃
add “friday night parties” to the list of things I am NOT gonna miss about living in a dorm… I mean noisy neighbors were already on there but this specifically bothers me on so many levels
Why is it that I always, always end up with a flat next to someone who doesn’t understand that playing music loudly on speakers at any time is rude, but especially at 23:30 on a weekday?
