Opinion: My own view on HanaNeneTsuka ship because- why not? lol
Finally done with the TeruAoiKane post! ...Now moving on to (Ama)HanaNeneTsuka!
First things first; No. I do not ship Tsukasa x Amane, nor do I support incest in fiction or in real life. This post will be mostly about me analysing the TsuNene and (Ama)HanaNene relationship, and Tsukasa & Amane's fraternal (platonic) relationship. And my final opinion about this trio in a both romantic and platonic way. Lil' notes: this post may contain sensitive topics.
That's it for the notes! Now, let's start with...
TsuNene!
Tumblr media
To be honest with you guys... I don't even remember when did I even start shipping those 2 lol Like- I seriously do not remember. Not even a vague memory of it. I just know that, one day, I got tired of HanaNene and started to ship TsuNene. And soon they become my Top 1 favorite ship. I don't know if it was the fanarts, the manga itself, the official AUs of them together, the fanfictions, or something else. I just started to ship them and that's it.What I do know, though, is that there is something that made me continue shipping them, regardless of what happened in the manga between them.. lol
Just like in my last post about TeruAoi; The way both Tsukasa and Nene are so similar is what kept me shipping them.
Like- They both are so similar to each other in so many ways. They have so much in common!
Both wish to know more about Amane.
Both are kind of interested in romance in their own ways. (Read this analysis if u wish to understand what I'm talking about!)
In many official arts and even bonus pages, we can see them both parallelling each other in their own different way. (this. And the fact that Tsukasa is singing Over The Rainbow while Nene is wearing Dorothy's dress- I found it a nice similarity lol Also, singing duo.)
They are both equally chaotic. (In basically all official AUs, too! Especially in monster nursery AU, where Nene it's basically a Tsukasa 2.0 lol)
Both seems to really like puzzles games.
It may not really have much relevance, but I really love seeing how similar they are.
Their dynamics in each different official AUs is pretty nice to see, too! We have Father and Daughter dynamic, Rivalry dynamic, Friendly? dynamic, Friends? dynamic; Each different dynamic in each different AU. It's always interesting and fun for me to see them interacting!
Though, I have to admit that this ship wouldn't really work out in canon, since Tsukasa still have that demon inside him and both him and Amane are dead, while Nene is still alive.
Besides, Tsukasa sexually harassed her. I know that Nene apparently doesn't seem to think too much about it, but it was still sexually harassment.
Honestly, I feel like if Nene and Tsukasa had met under different circumstances with no demons or supernaturals in the mix, I feel like they would have be really good friends; Maybe even a sibling dynamic!
I just love to see my 2 favorite characters of all time interacting together.
Now let's go to... (Ama)HanaNene!
Tumblr media
Honestly, do I even need to explain? They are canon. They are perfect.
Hanako's first love was Nene. Nene finally found someone who loves her for who she is. Nene is Hanako's first ever friend (most likely). They both genuinely love each other. They are absolutely perfect
It's practically canon, too, so I feel like I don't have much to say about them- But I'll try to say how do I feel about this ship!
Honestly, this is one of my top 2 favorite- Literally my comfort ship.
Their personality matches each other very well, and the way their relationship slowly gets their development through out the whole manga is actually really adorable!
I absolutely screamed and giggled like a lil' kid when I first saw their panel of them officially kissing; If u were there, you could clearly tell how happy I was when I saw them kissing after waiting for literal years. ❤
They feel mutual care, respect and love for each other; They would do anything for each other and that's clear.
Nene ran away with Hanako the moment they met again - She felt practically devastated when Hanako fell apart before her eyes. You can tell she cares a lot about him.
And Hanako literally sacrificed everything in his power to see Nene happy and alive, even if it meant trapping her in a fake world or sacrificing her own best friend.
Besides, the way they act around each other really feels like a really clingy and touch-starved couple. I love them.
I feel like I've never shipped a canon ship as much as I do now. HanaNene was definitely the first canonical ship in the whole world that I genuinely wanted to for them to be together and work out, and I never ever gave up on the ship even after years of shipping them.
They just make so much sense and I love them so very much. ❤
Though, this ship does has its flaws. I can see why some people doesn't really ship HanaNene.
Hanako already sexually harassed Nene. Even Nene herself said that many things that Hanako did to her was sexually harassment.
And Hanako is pretty possessive that even Nene noticed it; Whenever he feels jealous about Nene, he throws water at her or even threatens to turn her into a fish. He even trapped Nene into a fake world.
The thing is; Hanako himself said that no matter what Kou or the others say- He wants to be the one who saves Nene. Not Kou nor anyone else, just him being the one who changes her future.
The jealousy and possessiveness he feels around Nene could soon become a problem in the future.
Though, Nene also has her own flaws in this ship..
She often slaps him and, as much as Hanako often deserves a slap of reality to learn not to be selfish when it comes to saving Nene's life without thinking about the consequences of his actions for it, I don't think violence is the answer.
She also, for some strange reason, still chooses to admire Teru's presence even though she knows what he did to Hanako and what he planned to do to Hanako.
I understand that she doesn't feel any kind of romantic attraction towards him and all she feels is just admiration, but still... Nene, are you sure you don't feel any kind of resentment towards Teru after finding out what he planned to do with Hanako? Like, not even a little bit?
Although, if I'm only blaming Nene in this case, I would be being unfair, because Kou also doesn't seem to hold any kind of grudge against Teru even after seeing what he did to Hanako. What he almost successfully did to Hanako.
But then again, Kou and Teru are brothers; Nene and Teru are just friendly acquaintances...
I can't say anything either, since no matter how hard I try, I can't hold a grudge against anyone even after so much has happened. (I can dislike them, I just cannot hold a grudge nor hate them.)
Nene may just really have a heart of gold and be too naive for her own good, but still…
Welp- This ship has its ups and downs, its flaws and its goods; But, in my opinion, I still think HanaNene is still a pretty adorable ship. They still need some development on their relationship, though.
Now let's move on to... (Hanako-kun) Yugi Amane & Yugi Tsukasa! Not a ship btw!. Just analysing their relationship.
Tumblr media
Honestly- I don't even know what to say, I just know that i love their sibling relationship so much.
Ofc, their sibling relationship isn't my top favorite, but I definitely love to see them interacting in such a healthy and normal way. Just them being the adorable twinnies they are.
I was always a sucker for healthy siblings relatioship, so you can tell how much I love those 2 dorks even though their relationship isn't my top favorite.
You can tell how much they love and care for each other; Of course they do, they are brothers after all! Though, I feel like their relationship is more deep and unhealthy than it actually seems...
Tsukasa seems to think that Amane hates him, which most likely explain his apathyness in leaving his family just so his brother could live.
Also, I can't be the only one who thinks that Tsukasa may hold some kind of grudge against Amane, right...? I mean, think about that;
Don't get me wrong, it is pretty clear as the sun that Tsukasa and Amane both mutually and equally care for and love each other, but I feel like that there are so many misunderstandings between them that they may have some negative feelings between them.
If u have/had a sibling, wouldn't you be mad if, even after everything you did for your sibling, they still decides to kill you? I think it would be a bit unrealistic if Tsukasa didn't feel even a hint of resentment against Amane for killing him.
The fact that it is revealed to us that Tsukasa is a yorishiro, and that Sumire - as a human yorishiro herself, had to experience her death in a total loop for God knows how long...
Tsukasa, for also being a yorishiro, probably had to experience his death in loop, too. And without any visits from his brother, either.
It's already bad enough that he was 'trapped' in the red house for decades, but he also had to put up with experience his death over and over again without even a single visit from his brother.
I don't blame Amane; He was probably too scared to face the brother he killed. Probably afraid of hurting him again.
But still.. Tsukasa had to endure all of that for decades, all for Amane. Tsukasa was willing to endure being without his family for decades, to endure having to experience his death over and over again, to endure all of this, just for Amane.
No wonder he went insane, especially with a demon inside him.
Amane also has his negative feelings towards Tsukasa; Imagine if you had killed your loved one without actually meaning to kill them? You didn't want to kill them, but you still killed them.
Amane probably feels immense guilt, so much so that it's probably why Tsukasa says it's been "10 or 20 years" since they've seen each other, implying that Amane hasn't come to visit him in decades simply because of the fear he feels.
There are a lot of people saying that Amane is afraid of Tsukasa, but honestly? I think Amane is afraid of himself. (Based on an analysis that I'm too lazy to try to find right now lol)
Amane is scared to face Tsukasa; Not because he is afraid of him, but of himself. He's afraid of hurting his loved one again. He's afraid of having to see Tsukasa's reaction; The person behind Amane that we saw in the opening (in 0:36) is not Tsukasa, but rather the immense guilt he feels.
He feels like someone is holding him, a person whispering all the bad things he did when he was alive, a shadow making him relive the memories of what he did to his little brother.
Basically; There are a lot of misunderstandings surrounding them that still need to be resolved, and there is their past for us to unravel, too.
Based on AidaIro's old works, it seems that they both really like complicated sibling relationships in fiction lol
I'm not sure if Jibaku Shounen Hanako Kun will have a happy ending for these two, but let's wait and see. xd
Now.. All of them together!
Tumblr media
Alright... Honestly, I don't view those three in a poly relationship. More like a love triangle where both of the twins are in love with Nene and Nene is in love with them (sounds cliché, I know lol). I really feel umconfortable with the incest, honestly. - Saying that as someone who has also has a brother.
Honestly, I feel like they could be a really chaotic trio. They would get into every lil' adventure and trouble, honestly- lol
I don't have much to say about them, just that I really love their friendship. Like I said before; I feel like Nene and Tsukasa would be such good friends if met in different circumstances, and the platonic AmaNene/HanaNene is really underrated tbh lol
To be honest, there were times where it felt like HanaNene would be better off as best friends... And the platonic TsukaNene is such an concept that it's understandably loved by the fandom xD
In a platonic matter, I like to think that Nene would be a like a big sister or like a 'lost' triplet for them. They are all so similar to each other and I really love the friendship/sibling dynamic potential TsukaNene have, while platonic! AmaNene/HanaNene is such a reaaaally underrated concept.
For me, it's adorable to see all three of them just happily bonding like the chaotic trio they are. I love romance but I would choose the found-family trope over it anytime.
They would be the all time besties fr
In my personal opinion, I think the platonic! HanaNene/AmaNene is much better than romantic! HanaNene/AmaNene... I still like the romance between them tho lol
In a romantic matter, however, I like to think that the twins are inlove with Nene only and not with each other, since it makes me highly umconfortable when that's the case.
Though, I prefer much more the platonic! HanaNeneTsuka. It just holds so much more power. lol
In a HanaNeneTsuka fic, I like to see the twins ready to fight each other for a girl's attention, but still willing to die for each other at the end of the day. They are twinnies and they love each other, no one, not even the girl they both like, can surpass that.
Tumblr media
Final opinion; Platonic! HanaNeneTsuka solos. okno- Xd I love both HanaNene and TsuNene, in a both platonic and romantic way. HanaTsuka/TsukAmane makes me umconfortable, though I won't hate on people who ships them.
They all gives me chaotic good vibes, and I love it.
Platonic! HanaNene is underrated and I wish the fandom would stop with the romance for five seconds and appreciate the platonic.
Romantic! TsuNene have its potential to be a really nice and fun dynamic, I'm still wishing the fandom could be open-minded about it instead of losing their time in trying to force people into stop shipping them.
Weell.. I think that's it-? lol lmao i spent the whole day trying to finish this... Only for the HanaNeneTsuka part to look like it was rushed😭
Well, what can I do... I think i've rambled too much about TsuNene and HanaNene that my energy has gone down...
Cya u all in the next post! Bye-bye! <3
lil' reminder; Feel free to add your own thoughts into it or correct me about something! Just be respectful about it, please. <3
Tumblr media
lil' update; Edited! Had soo many grammatical errors omg- Welp. Also added and fixed some other things even though this opinion of mine is kind of outdated by now lol

Parrot, Pangi, The NPPP, and Protest Humour
In 2009, in a seminal piece of work named after a particular study on the power of humour as an act of rebellion, Robert Darnton confessed that “There is no better way to ruin a joke than to analyse it or overload it with social comment.”
So, sorry NPPP. I’m going to take your joke and, not only analyse it, I’m going to charge it with social commentary, symbolism, and also meaning. Consider it, an act of rebellion, of protest, provoked by your faction name.
What is the NPPP? Who are Parrot and Spoke? To answer those questions I must say: Welcome to the Lifesteal SMP. A server where if you die, you lose a heart. Lose all your hearts and you get banned.
Within the opening days of Season 4 there was the expected primordial chaos, which was then followed by the expected still-chaotic ordering and solidifying of alliances. Two players, both alike in their goals, quickly found themselves at the opposite ends of the Lifesteal SMP hierarchy:
The first (Pangi), had many hearts and many allies. He was able to achieve the goal of most Lifesteal players by gaining 20 hearts and was one of the first to do so.
The other player (Parrot) had a different experience. He found one main ally in Spoke but quickly found the initial phase of Season 4 to be a harsher climate than he had expected. He was low on hearts, allies, and he and Spoke had to skim-off the bases and resources of other players.
The weird almost-meritocracy based class and wealth system of Lifesteal SMP becomes quickly apparent. There’s material wealth in the form of bases, villagers, and farms, and then there’s the unique Lifesteal currency in hearts. Material wealth and heart-wealth are the two separate markers of a player’s status. It is possible (and interestingly, most common) to only have one of the two.
Take the “Three Hearts Trio” for example. It’s clear that they lack in heart-wealth, which would put them down at the bottom of the Lifesteal hierarchy; however, their base was a site of immense material wealth. It was the choice target of Parrot and Spoke’s “re-appropriating” of resources. Their material wealth allows them to rise in the hierarchy and gain a particular protection due to the important resources and exports their base is able to provide the server.
Pangi (the wealthy player mentioned before) from the beginning, had set his eyes on the ambitious target of becoming the most powerful player, of being the top of this ever-present hierarchy. He gains the heart-wealth early on in the server and, due to this strength, is able to take a comparative risk by setting up a base near spawn. He is able to spend time on decoration and aesthetics and by doing so, shows off his ascension to the top. Pangi gained both material wealth and heart-wealth and so established himself as part of the ‘upper class’ of Lifesteal.
So, within Lifesteal Season 4 there is already a sense of an established hierarchy and order. The heart-rich are able to get heart-richer and grind raids with ease, whereas the heart-poor become heart-poorer, dying to stray arrows, vexes, and creeper explosions. Dying to things that aren’t even a consideration the more powerful players would need to make. There comes a need (from at-least one end of the hierarchy) for some sort of upheaval, a reversal of this social order. There comes a need for a carnival.
By carnival, I refer to the concept of a traditional European Christian festivity (although comparable to Purim in parts) that stood in opposition to Lent. Carnival was a period of openness and freedom that was to be let out and acknowledged before the solemeness of Lent was to set in. Darnton says “Carnival was high season for hilarity, sexuality, and youth run riot-a time when young people tested social boundaries by limited outbursts of deviance, before being reassimilated in the world of order, submission, and Lentine seriousness.”
Mock trials were held and plays were produced where (within this particular context of carnival) dissent and acts of rebellion were almost encouraged. Established powers such as the pre-reformation Church were able to be challenged and the more personal enforced social norms were up-turned. As Marjolein't Hart puts it “[carnival] allowed the articulation of the idiomatic "world turned upside down", a funny and subversive way to play with established rules and hierarchies.”
She, and other historians, stressed the usage of carnival as a release of tension, a safety valve that allowed discontent people, usually at or near the bottom of their particular social hierarchy, a way of expressing their displeasure openly due to the fact it got masked or understood as a form of humour, often satire. By making these jokes, the possibility of a different reality gets aired. Elizabeth Hansot points out that “the joke is in the structures we create, structures that frame some individuals or groups arbitrarily at the expense of others.”
So, you may be thinking, that’s all well and nice but what have Parrot, Spoke and the NPPP got to do with some pretty old European folk customs?
Well, within Lifesteal there are several established structures that form the Lifesteal norm. Ideas that are taken for granted eg. that every player wants to achieve power in the form of material wealth and heart-wealth. Ideas that there is a correct way to go about this ‘inevitable quest’.
Steps for a successful Lifesteal experience:
Firstly, you want to gain allies. Don’t make enemies where you don’t gain from doing so.
Secondly, in order to gain heart-wealth, material wealth should be obtained beforehand. Either you, or one of your allies, should set up a secret base stacked with villagers and potions so you can gear up for step 3.
Now you can start to evaluate the position of each player and faction on the server. Who is poor enough to be an easier target, yet rich enough that you can gain something from the kill?
The NPPP take these pre-existing Lifesteal norms and use the framework of their alliance to protest and mock it. Their name “The No-Pants People Party” stands in opposition of former teams in previous seasons (“Men Of Battle” “People Of Gallantry” etc.) in its lack of grandeur and use of —what’s often considered— low-brow humour.
The NPPP takes one of the key beliefs of Lifesteal, that the natural desire of players is to gain wealth and power, and turns it on its head. They take the armoured leggings (which offer the second most armour points within an armour set) and refuse to wear them. They take the pre-established order of allies-gear-hearts and stand outside of it. The NPPP are able to acknowledge the expected course of action and satirise it. They make enemies with powerful allied players, they refuse to set up their own permanent base for grinding, and they mock the caution of powerful players by using The NPPP’s circumstantial group identity as players with few hearts to emphasise their refusal to ‘play the game’, to drive home the mockery they make of Lifesteal norms by not wearing trousers.
In doing so, they are effectively protesting the expected hierarchy of Lifesteal from the bottom of said hierarchy. They are not acting on game theory or rationalism. The NPPP act in defiance of the norms, they challenge players like Pangi who have more allies and have more wealth and are able to wield their unique privileges (gained from stepping outside the expected frame) to force an upheaval in the previously-solid social structure.
Just as the jester is able to mock the king due to their station, the eccentricity of the NPPP allows them the privileges of being underestimated and allowed to carry on their humorous protest. As Hansot says, it also allows them “To make a claim for oneself with a note of humour, i.e. to establish role distance, can save face in advance by creating a self that will not be discredited by lack of success or ignored by being predictable”.
They can use this open defiance of norms and loud satirising of established Lifesteal structures to weaponise every outcome. When The NPPP clash with players like Reddoons, Woogie, or Pangi, each victory is symbolic of the great upheaval The NPPP caused and also celebrates their ‘underdog story’. It both defies structures and also reinforces them. The inherent humour and absurdity of basing collective group identity on a refusal to wear trousers also endears them to the viewers of the Lifesteal SMP as well as endearing them to each other.
The NPPP are able to very quickly establish this collective group identity due to the obvious visual markers that differentiate themselves from their enemies. They characterise “pants-wearers” as being greedy, untrustworthy, and as natural enemies to the NPPP. They signify which social group they belong to, through their choice in armour wearing but it’s the use of humour that helps keep the group together and help promote collective action. In an article regarding the usage of humour within the workplace Hansot remarks that “[humour can be used] as a way of marking ethnic or kinship boundaries or of channelling hostility and mobilising solidarity among people who are forced to interact frequently and intimately.” The NPPP usage of humour regarding their faction acts as a way of signalling who does or doesn’t belong in their group as well as helping to strengthen the bonds between established members.
The NPPP use this humour and make jokes (often crass ones) about their circumstances to the extent that they can even deny their own losses. Each NPPP loss is considered as a fruitless victory for their opponents as they still exist within the Lifesteal norms, where the resources and time taken to win are a loss in a season wide battle of attrition. The viewers are also more likely to be sympathetic and supportive of The NPPP as Hart notes that “Jokes often weaken the defences of an audience and render the listeners more amenable to persuasion.” The NPPP use this humour and are able to joke with the audience such that the audience sees their refusal of norms are interesting, engaging, and charming and will make up for the backlash The NPPP get from refusing to follow the given path within the Lifesteal SMP.
So when Parrot and Spoke decided to defy expectations by refusing to wear a useful piece of armour and making penis jokes, they were (unintentionally) mimicking the European tradition of Carnival and humorous protests and defiance of established social practices and structures. Their usage of humour as a tool of persuasion for viewers, a method of bonding for people within their group, and most importantly: their usage of humour as an act of opposition against more powerful enemies shows the oft-overlooked versatility and importance of jokes.
Maybe the NPPP was intended to be just a joke about not wearing trousers but its context gives it these extra connotations and meanings that support Parrot, Spoke, and whoever allies with them, in their open protest against the common ideals of Lifesteal culture.
Sorry NPPP! Hopefully I didn’t ruin your joke too much, but to be fair - you can’t use humour to engage and delight without inviting some (perhaps unexpected) consequences.
Disclaimers: I'm not a professional linguist and I'm also not an expert in mediaeval European folklore and traditions. There are more layers to it the more meta you get, so I mainly stuck to within the Lifesteal canon to avoid complications and to avoid making this even longer. A point could be made about how the status of an admin can be understood within Minecraft and how that contributes to the carnival-like warping of hierarchies but that was *insanely* meta. Also I had the idea for this and started writing it at 1/ 1:30am thinking it would take like 20 minutes max. I awoke from a trance where I opened my eyes to 5 pages of text with citations at 5:20am. I slept before posting to make sure it’s coherent but at this point it’s as coherent as I can make it.
Sorry for being insane btw (:

Spy x Family Opening Analysis :D
(Note: contains spoilers!)
Tumblr media
Link to opening animation and opening MV! They’re both amazing.
First of all, this is an absolutely stunning and colourful opening and I am so obsessed with it. I think I watched it on loop for like twenty times. It’s just so addictive.
Secondly, there’s also a really good Twitter thread by Namaryuu analysing the opening specifically in regards to other works by Masashi Ishihama, the director of the opening. I recommend giving it a read!
Also once again this is just my opinion (and I tend to stretch things) so apologies for any mistakes/ misinformation. Now let’s begin! :D
The opening shot is of a reflection of a crescent moon disappearing in a puddle. I believe this is a small reference to how Anya’s powers vanish every time the new moon comes.
Tumblr media
Then, we are treated to quick-paced action scenes in highly saturated colours like red, yellow, green purple etc. Many typical spy elements are shown, such as bombs, gunfire, spying through spyglasses, and car chases. The music is chaotic as it builds up to the first verse. Personally, I think this bit gives off a retro vibe and reminds me of Cowboy Bebop’s opening (sorry, I’m not the best at these terms).
Stylistically, this beginning part is very different from the rest of the opening and the anime. The high contrast of colours reminds me of classic spy movies, a nod to the spy genre itself. Twilight, the famous spy, is also the only character present in this scene. The font reminds me of (American) comics, which again has retro vibes. This “tricks” the viewers into thinking SxF might be a typical action/spy anime, only for that expectation to both be fulfilled and subverted.
Then, we see the first image in this post- our three leads painted in different colours, Yor staring to the left, Twilight staring to the right, and Anya innocently between them. The first ten or so seconds established the “spy” setting, albeit in a somewhat dramatic way. Now, the “family” part of the title comes in, each member symbolised by a different colour. Yor is in blue, Anya in pink/red, Twilight in yellow. These are the primary colours.
It should also be noted that Yor and Twilight both look serious and unsmiling, while Anya appears to be completely oblivious to them. The serious tone from the first ten seconds continues. Then- it abruptly shifts.
Tumblr media
The image is then replaced by how Anya imagines her parents. Yor and Loid are now in casual wear, and while the trio still retain their colours, the artstyle is vastly different. We’re seeing the world through Anya’s eyes. The simplified shapes, the innocent expressions, the childish lines... this is a sudden tonal shift from the “retro serious spy anime” from before. In the first ten seconds, the opening has already established both the “spy” and the “family” parts of the show, and they’re contrasted against each other. We can see the world from the perspective of adults or from a child.
The perspective of Anya is very important in SxF because as a mind reader, she is the only one who has access to everybody’s secret identities and motivations. A lot of exposition is usually done through Anya’s mind reading.
Then, once the singing starts, we get to see Anya’s life in a simple, childlike manner (the opening is appropriately titled “Mixed Nuts”, suiting Anya). The first thing we see are rainclouds over Anya, and both of her parents offering umbrellas to shield her. The symbol of rain is commonly shown in this opening. Anya is protected by Loid and Yor, awww.
We see the setting of the anime drawn in a childlike style, from the streets to Eden Academy. Cute speech bubbles and a different font also add to the tone. The colours continue to be bright and happy. Anya is shown jumping along with what appears to be her chimera plush. Fitting for a kid’s imagination.
Tumblr media
We get to see various characters in Anya’s life, from her parents, Franky, classmates, Henderson, to Handler. Handler in particular is shown comically peering and peeping from behind a tower, which is accurate to how Anya imagines spies to be. Anya’s favourite Spy Wars is also present. We know Anya likes cartoons, so it also makes perfect sense for the opening to be animated in a cartoon-like way. (I believe Yuri also makes a cameo with the Spy Wars comics, so rip Fiona)
Interestingly, once Anya walks to the part with Handler and the word “WISE” in the background, it starts raining. Anya takes out her umbrella and the scene transitions to having a rainbow in the background. In this opening, Handler acts as a constant reminder of Operation Strix and how this family is just a facade. In the first episode, Twilight remarked that the Forger family would dissolve once the mission was over. No wonder in Anya’s mind, WISE brings stormy clouds to her happy life.
Next, we transition to gorgeous shots of the family enjoying life. Anya, still holding her umbrella, is walking. These shots are what typical family trips look like, with references to the aquarium, fancy dining, sightseeing, and so on. The lyrics at this point are “On the template of happiness, behind the picture which is literally picturesque” (all translations of lyrics are from the official MV). This reminds me of Twilight “planning” family trips to “enrich” Anya’s background for the Eden interview. Yes, they may all look happy and like an ordinary family, but it’s just a “template of happiness” that they’re following.
Anya is holding her umbrella in case rain (hardships, suffering, breakups) happens (note that her parents were the ones with the umbrellas at the beginning). Is Anya afraid of being abandoned and has to take care of herself again? At this segment, none of their faces are shown, just their backs and the side profile of Anya running.
After that, there’s a transition scene of Anya, Yor and Twilight running out of a television. Umbrella Anya disappears. To me, this symbolises Anya’s fascination with her spy cartoons and how she sees her parents’ dynamic as entertainment and “something out of TV”. The lyrics are “We can’t be as we are, even when we put our hands together sitting around a table”. Now, the imagery in the lyrics are quite obvious. We see more happy Forger family scenes, and we also get to see the faces of the Forger family. They’re smiling and look relaxed. They’re drinking wine, going out for Christmas, eating a cake, and so on. This is what Anya’s ideal family life looks like. However, as the lyric hints, things are not what they seem.
We’re nearing the chorus (and the beat drop). Anya takes center stage with the spotlight, with Yor once again on the left, Loid at the right. They still look like a normal happy family, but Loid is about to turn off the light. I especially like this scene because you can see it as Loid switching off Anya’s spotlight, and also switching off the light to leave Anya’s imagination and enter the adults’ world.
Tumblr media
Loid turns off the light, and everyone goes dark. In the normal style of the anime, Twilight’s eyes are seen moving around- much like WISE’s symbol of an eye watching the East (the east is also the right where Twilight is consistently positioned). We’re back to the typical spy imagery of watching. Twilight and the Thorn Princess are shown in a split screen, both looking away from each other and carrying out their missions. This shows their identities remain unknown to each other.
The colours are also very noticeably darker. Night has fallen (haha), and the adults must don their hidden identities. Then, Yor’s panel expands, showing a close up of her red eyes. More watching. Quite appropriately, the lyrics are “Home with full of secrets and patches, you know?” Yor and Loid Forger are not who they seem to be. The Forger household has many secrets.
Tumblr media
We see some cool action and fighting scenes. Yor and Twilight are seen in different settings / backgrounds, showing their jobs are not connected. When we finally see them in a single frame, they’re still separated and highlighted by different colours.
Tumblr media
The split screen then morphs into casual Yor and Loid smiling, back in their Forger family mode. Note that their panels are still not touching until Anya’s frame comes along and connects them together. After all, Anya’s the one playing matchmaker and decided to bring them together for her own excitement.
Tumblr media
Despite all the secret identities plastered over them (quite literally with the TOP SECRET stamps smearing the screen), the Forgers are together and loving. But then...
Tumblr media
Handler looms up, a deep ominous purple, the complementary colour of the cheerful yellow used to indicate warmth. As said above, Handler symbolizes the reality of the mission. Her eyes are half-shown, indicating she is always watching (even emphasised with the words EYES ONLY). Would the Forger’s family life be swallowed up by Operation Strix?
Next, we see Handler as a mysterious black silhouette in front of multiple screens screaming out “STRIX”. Handler’s hair moves like smoke to cover up the screens. This adds mystery and suspense to the opening. (Black and yellow might also be Desmond colours because the Desmonds have black hair and Damian has vaguely yellow eyes. Colours of the antagonist maybe?) The lyrics “My life is so insecure and drifting, I know” show that under Operation Strix, the Forger family is supposed to be an illusion. They’re supposed to be insecure about their place in the family because they’re a forgery. Except we know the main three are all genuinely fond of each other. But will Operation Strix cause them to drift apart?
Then we see Franky, a person who is simultaneously involved in Twilight’s career and a Forger family friend. We see a sequence of Yor dressed in different, brightly coloured clothes. Then, we see her with a wide-brimmed hat, knives out in the blue water against a red sky, the slightest bit of her rose motif visible. To me, this is foreshadowing to the cruise arc (holiday hat, water, killing, red blood), where Yor starts to doubt her motivations.
After the bright and exaggerated colours, we return to the normal anime style. A montage of events are shown over a background of Twilight with a serious expression. We see him next to a train, and he looks up. Camera zooms into the Thorn Princess, smiling from above. The lyrics at this point are “Every day is so mediocre, but I’m here and so are you.” We see the Forgers united below, their signature colours splashed over them. They’re in casual wear and look quite happy. They’re there for each other!
Tumblr media
The opening ends with them sitting on their dining table as the camera pans around them. This imagery of “sitting at a table together” is constantly used in promo media and referenced in the lyrics, so it’s no surprise they’re using it as an ending sequence. The main three are coloured in and smiling at each other, but the background is monochrome. The background transforms from a dull bluish grey (more rain/storm imagery?) to a light green with leaves, and finally to a soft yellow with colourful, blooming flowers. The Forgers might have rough backgrounds, but when they come together, their bonds start budding and eventually blossom into something genuine and beautiful.
As a final note about the rain thing, the full song mentions more of it. “Whether you were born above the tree or beneath the ground, the difference is subtle // may the rain equally moisturise this unacceptably dry world” and “The other side of the window is sometimes cold and noisy, you know? // Occasional starless nights, days filled with thunderstorms are okay”. I suppose rain is used as a metaphor for all the suffering the characters might have suffered in the past, but they band together to provide shelter for one another (especially for Anya).
Anyways, this is getting long, so if you reached this point, thanks for reading this over-the-top post! I really do love this opening. Hope you have a great rest of your day! <3

Anyway, now that I finished Hunter X Hunter (2011).. i can now provide a personal ranking of the arcs (this was asked to me before so I’m gonna do it!)
Before I give mine, i’m just gonna say that EVERY ARC is amazing. This is just based on preference.
There could be minor spoilers, so don’t read this is you have not watched HxH:
HUNTER X HUNTER (2011) ARC RANKING (from least fave to most fave
7. Greed Island - i must admit that this one felt really slow to me but it really took time for me to appreciate and enjoy. It was only until Hisoka arrived when I got the most interested ESPECIALLY the battle against Razor. That really shook it up. But Bomberman is my least fave villain. While it is an essential power-up arc, it took some pushing for me to make myself finish it. Although, i do know people WHO LOVE this arc. I guess it just was not really my favourite, but Bisky is amazing and I love the fights. I also love how it was like a Gon and Killua go on a date type of arc lol
6. Zoldyck Family - while Killua isn’t present, you come to really appreciate the trio Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio. It was intriguing to see them make their way through the mansion. It was also a treat to learn and have a glimpse of who the Zoldyck family are and how they live. I also really love Canary and Gotoh.. they were amazing butlers or side characters. It was also a logical follow-up after the Hunter Exam arc
5. Heaven’s Arena - the introduction of Nen.. so well-done. It was really amazing how this turned out to be the final secret exam too. I also really enjoyed the fights. Seeing Killua and Gon in action. Also, i’ll have to single out Hisoka.. his fighting style and seeing how his Nen works. It was truly a sight to behold. It was a really great and entertaining arc packed with surprises. It was also nice how realistic it is because Gon did not beat Hisoka but he landed a punch, and it was a great way to show a debt was repaid.
4. Chairman Election - as soon as Alluka got introduced, everything just became 100x more interesting. I really love how this wrapped up the series before it went Hiatus x Hiatus lol but yeah, Pariston was a fun complex character.. didn’t expect he just enjoyed the thrill. It was also great to see Killua be in big brother mode. It was also full of twists which I really enjoyed. I did not see any of it coming. It really was a lot of mind games. I also love how it concluded Gon’s search for his father. It was a great reunion and it was built up really nicely. It was also nice to see Ging acknowledging Leorio and it was a nice way to show Leorio also became strong. Seeing the butlers in action too was great.
3. Hunter Exam - seriously... i don’t know how anyone can begin the few episodes of Hunter X Hunter and not wanna know what happens next. The exams are all puzzling and you just wanna know what will be the next challenge thrown at them and HOW THEY CAN SOLVE IT. Such a fun arc and a STRONG beginning. And yes, you see the Big Four together and in action. Full of adventure and fun. Such an amazing start
2. Chimera Ant - surprise! it’s not my most favourite.. and i will get to why. While I REALLY LOVE the conclusion, i really think this arc could have been trimmed down and it would have still left a solid lasting impression. It is a glorious arc but not without flaws. The narration parts could have showed character monologues instead and you can tell they tried to stretch out three minutes of an event into 3 episodes. It was really too long. That being said, the slow burn leading to the rising action then the end. Tbh, Chimera Ant really felt like a series in itself. It was lengthy but so rewarding. At first I was upset that Kurapika and Leorio aren’t present but you can really see why when you realise the ants are too powerful. I especially love how Killua and Gon suffered and had a hard time defeating the ants. They failed and it was satisfying to see that in a shonen anime. It really subverts your expectations. It’s even AMAZING how Gon and Killua never met Meruem who’s one of the best antagonists from any anime imo. Amazing developments too for every character introduced. You really get to love them.
I’m in awe how Hyouri Ittai (two sides of the same coin) works so well for this arc. Monsters and Humans truly can be so. It was also amazing to see how the ants became humans while the humans became the ants they feared. It really made you think and analyse humanity. And yes I cried buckets from that ending.
1. YORKNEW CITY - despite having less episodes than Chimera Ant, I can definitely say YORKNEW is the best arc imo. From the first episode, I WAS SOOO DRAWN IN. I swear this entire arc IMO is just cliffhanger after cliffhanger. I remembered I had to finish this in like a day or less than a day because IT’s JUST TOOOO FUCKING GOOD.
Kurapika’s abilities.. so fucking incredible how his nen works. The Phantom Troupe are ALSO THE BEST ANTAGONISTS or villains. They’re so powerful and scary but they all have such interesting quirks and personalities. It was also mindblowing to see how Hisoka played a chaotic neutral role in this whole ordeal. And yes, the fights ALL fights were so interesting. Chrollo is also a sexy deadly villain.
Also, how it was a shift in the tone of HxH. It suddenly became more violent and brutal. It really heightened the suspense aspect because the Phantom Troupe are so terrifying and you dont know what could happen next. Seeing the Big Four together too and working together to outsmart the Troupe. It also had really strong characters too.I also love how the ending of this arc subverts your expectations but it is such a logical end.
Like you build up in a way where the main characters will probably fight the Phantom Troupe one by one until they kill Chrollo but that never happens. The story is not yet finished and the exchange of hostages and how Kurapika’s willpower was put to the test. It had SUCH an anticlimactic end but IT WAS SO FULL of thought and meaning. It was also amazing how the prophecy played out. It was overall the strongest arc imo because in just maybe less than 20 episodes, it really left a strong impression on me.
And I AM LOOKING FORWARD to them fighting the Phantom Troupe for real this time. I’m so glad we got to see them in Chimera too because damn they’re really tough opponents and it will be nice to see how the big four will fight them.
But yeah, anywayy that ends it. Thanks for reading!

Floral & Fading (Pierce The Veil Fanfiction)
Tumblr media
youtube
(This was the first band slash PTV fanfic that I’ve ever made, so please forgive me if it’s terrible and nonsensical and not what you really expected.)
"D-d-d-darker now, kicked out and sleeping in your car, you rolled the window down, enough to dream and make-believe..."
"That's it, stop it! Pierce...whatever, you're outta here! Go on, we're closed! Everybody out! You're wrecking the place!"
The harsh reprimand of the bowling alley owner rang out, exasperated and palpably angry, and Jaime could perfectly and very much tell why.
Standing in the carnage of musical instruments and debris of bowling equipment alike, their band sign hanging off on one corner with half already in shards on the floor, holding splintered parts of what used to be a bass guitar, and staring at a rowdy crowd that had been shoving and pushing at each other the entire time, the owner's rage towards the sheepish band was easily understandable.
Jaime wasn't sure how Pierce the Veil was allotted to perform here in the first place, considering that their post-hardcore music wasn't really the appropriate ambiance to a bowling alley, and they were forced to wear such weird clothes (Mike laughed at his older brother's atrocious green floral shirt that he fished out of his dad's closet for ten minutes straight), and the owner didn't even know what the hell their band name was ("He announced it with the enthusiasm of a vendor selling tacos in a deserted place under the torpor heat of the summer Mexico sun", Jaime observed. "Oh great, now I want tacos", another voice inside his head complained), but all he knew for certain was that this was quite unexpected.
"For a bunch of people living in '69, these guys sure do party hard." Jaime thought, uttering a low whistle as he surveyed the wreckage of the chaotic room.
Not only had he and his bandmates completely trashed the place, they also managed to influence the people to join in with it as well, and what once was a group of peaceful weekend bowling players had turned into youth-crazy moshers that threw articles of intimate clothing, allowed crowdsurfing and mosh pits, nearly ripped the band members apart (two of them tore out their drummer's sleeves, "but," Jaime internally snickered, "with Mike's big guns, who freakin' wouldn't?"), poured juice punch on each other (Jaime could see a girl smiling at them wryly without a care of the sticky beverage that dripped and coloured her hair a vivid blue), pulled the fire alarms and lit up their lighters inside the place, and ultimately ("and most importantly", Jaime noted), they enjoyed and allowed themselves to lose control to their music.
"So all in all, not a bad gig." Jaime concluded with a satisfied grin. He looked over to Vic, Mike, and Tony, all exhausted, sweaty, and holding destroyed instruments alike, but also with the same enthused smiles lighted up on their faces.
Celebratory high fives were passed around the band members, but before Jaime could give one to an expectant Tony, the owner's stern face emerged in front of them, his nostrils flared and his voluminous belly rising up and down steadily, smoke appearing to come out of his ears, startling the band out of their gregarious reverie.
"You damn brats, still happy about wrecking this place. I regret ever knowin' your name. No you boys better get out of here before I get you a damn good whacking to and slam your sorry little asses in jail!" The owner threatened, waving at them the remaining microphone stand that was still actually standing and almost tripping on the wires in the process.
"Sooooo...does this mean we don't get paid?" Vic asked innocently, a cute charming smile emblazoned on his face, doe eyes wide and sparkly, every uttered word in the sentence dripping with sass. Behind him, Jaime chuckled audibly, Tony grinned so wide it seemed the corners of his lips would split open, and Mike covered his mouth with one heavily-tattooed hand to stifle his laughter.
The owner only glared at them poisonously, radiating nothing but sheer hate and venom out of his eyes, and shoved them all out of the way, causing a little domino effect to the band and nearly tripping on the wire yet again, as he muttered various colourful profanities, most likely endowing the worst curses known to man and monsters upon the Mexicans. He shook his meaty fist once more before going past the outbalanced band members, and grabbed a broom to commence cleaning up the mess that they made.
"Great gig. Great time. Great job, guys." Mike praised his fellow band members, as they packed up and salvaged what little they can from their smashed equipment, but not before he added a grim "We still need money to buy new instruments though, and since Vic here killed off any chance of us getting paid, well..."
"Thank you Mike, that reeeeaaally boosted our morale." Tony replied sardonically with a laugh.
Vic, pretending to be hurt, indignantly glared at his younger brother with a sulking pout. "We weren't getting paid anyways, Mikey. It didn't hurt to ask."
"Hey, hey, I'm just kidding bro. Hell, I don't blame you anyways. I've always wanted to wreck the living shit out of my drums! I mean, who doesn't? It's the adrenaline, man, it gets you. This was awesome, you guys. P-T-V!" Mike ranted on happily, as they all cheered out in enthusiastic replies of "Wooooh!"
"Well, I take it that's a wrap?" Vic quipped cheekily. He was answered with an affirming chorus of "Oh yeah", "Guess so", and from Jaime, accompanied with an audibly rumbling stomach, "Anyone else also craving tacos right now?"
Jaime's out-of-place remark and hunger pangs gave Vic an idea for a fun little prank. He acted all excited, suddenly pointed out to a random corner, and shouted "Hey look Jaime, a taco stand giving food away for free!"
"Where?!" As Jaime's head frantically whipped to face where Vic was pointing, Vic glanced furtively at Tony and made silent finger motions, signaling for him to trip up Jaime. Tony understood immediately, and he surreptitiously crouched behind Jaime and positioned himself by his feet, waiting for the right moment.
"Oh, you know, it's just there Hime, if you'd just, like, I don't know, back up a little, maybe you'd see clearer or something, y'know..." Mike improvised, buying for time, and Vic facepalmed behind Jaime's back and mouthed "That didn't make sense bro." to him.
But despite Mike's lame assurances, Jaime still obediently obliged with his instructions and ambled a step backward. His legs caught on the crouching turtle by his legs, and he began to topple backfirst, arms thrashing about wildly as he tried to break his fall.
"Gotcha again, Jaime!" Vic said triumphantly, earning him victorious high fives and rounds of raucous laughter from Mike and Tony.
But due to unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances, Jaime's head accidentally contacted a nearby bowling ball (ironically, it was the yellow one that he tossed at one of Mike's drums earlier and nearly hit Tony), and he heard a sickening crack, as Vic, Tony, and Mike's laughs instantly dissipated and they immediately rushed to his side.
Jaime felt himself losing consciousness quickly, and his vision blurred and faded as he saw his friends' concerned faces looming over him, Vic frantically waving a hand to his face and calling out his name.
"Jaime? Jaime??? Jaaaaiiimmeeeeee..."
~*~
Jaime jolted awake at the sound of singing invading his ears, and his eyes fluttered open and he found himself curled up in a couch, his bass guitar cuddled up next to him, a fan-gifted monkey pillow strewn on his stomach, and an abandoned floral pattern notebook lying facedown by his limply-hanging fingertips.
The rest of the band was simply chilling out; Mike lounging next to him as he clutched a coffee mug in one hand and twirled a drumstick in the other, Vic looking at his ink scribbles with a pensive visage and a badly-chewed pen stuck between his teeth, making little vocal warm-ups with their names (at the moment, he was singing out "Hayyyymeeyyyy skunnkkkk"), and Tony softly strumming notes at random on a battered acoustic guitar.
Jaime remembered his dream and his hand immediately shot up to his hair, as if to feel the phantom of a nightmarish afro that never was, and he sighed a little too loudly in relief as he felt only the soft spikes of his hedgehog hair. He rubbed his bleary eyes as he examined the appearances of his fellow bandmates' hairstyles with mingled scepticism and doubt.
Watching this event unfold, the trio's questioning stares immediately pierced (pun very much intended) through the scrutinising Jaime, but it was Vic who asked the question first.
"You okay there, Jaime?" he said, momentarily ceasing with his playful vocal warm-ups, his inquiry slightly garbled by the writing instrument clamped between his mouth.
"Dude, I just had the weirdest dream..." Jaime started.
Mike snorted into his mug at amusement at Jaime's revelation, spinning the drumstick more furiously and throwing it in the air. "Expect Jaime to be so cliche."
Tony glanced at him with a raised eyebrow and retorted "And expect you to be the one breaking the fourth wall." Mike stuck out his tongue at Tony in reply, and he failed to catch the drumstick, the wooden stick clattering noisily on the floor.
But Jaime seemed not to hear them both as he leered at Mike's short hair, hidden under his black beanie, analysed Tony's expertly messed sticky-uppy hair and Key Street cap lying by his side, and finally settled to concentrating and peering at Vic's long and flowing hair as if it was an art exhibit.
Vic finally noticed Jaime's strange stare and stared back with questioning eyes. "Why are you looking at me like that? Something wrong with my hair? Is my hat not on straight? Or do you just not like my hat? Again?" Vic badgered endlessly, his voice taking on a concerned tone, running his hand throughout his head to check for anything weird.
Jaime said nothing to clear things out as he slowly reached out to feel for Vic's hair. Mike took a sip of his drink absentmindedly and flipped his drumstick as he watched blankly, engrossed by the scene, and Tony had an exasperated expression that sighed out a silent "Oh, Jaime, here we go again."
Jaime grabbed one end of Vic's hair and started tugging at it, as if testing for it's legitimacy.
"Ow! Jaime! What the hell?" Vic exclaimed, slapping Jaime's hand away. By coincidence, Tony hit a sour note on the guitar as he was distracted by the unfolding events, making a sound that added for comedic effect.
"Your hair...it's normal." Jaime lamely replied.
Vic squinted in suspicion as he ran his fingers over his locks to fix his hair. "Is that a good thing or a bad thing?"
Jaime closed his eyes and nodded in alleviated affirmation. "Oh it's good dude. It's good. It's just, well, just that dream..."
"Well, what dream? Don't keep us in suspense, Hime-time." Vic prompted eagerly, setting down his abused pen and rumpled notebook on the desk and dragging his chair closer to Jaime. Mike and Tony set down the instruments they were holding and leaned in closer to listen in as well.
Jaime sighed extravagantly once again and began to narrate. "It was like...we were having a concert in a frigging bowling alley...you had short hair and a stupid floral shirt...Mike was wearing this nerdy-ass sweater and vest, I don't know what it was...Tony was crowdsurfing on a bunch of weirdly-dressed people...and I had cotton ball for a hair...it was sick though, we smashed our instruments in the end, and oh, I nearly hit Tony with a bowling ball!"
Tony glared at Jaime in mock disdain. "Something you wanna say to me, Jaime?"
"And me! Did you just call my clothes nerdy?" Mike put in indignantly.
"You tripped me up and made me smash my skull on a bowling ball, Tony, so I'd say we're pretty much even. And also Mike, Vic was wearing a long-sleeved green floral pattern shirt and ironed beige pants and stupid hard shoes and he had short hair that looked like it was shaped out of clay, so there." Jaime explained in a flat tone to both offended parties, not missing a beat.
Tony simply made a 'seems legit' face and nodded. "Touche, Preciado."
Mike, on the other hand, stared at his older brother for a couple seconds, as if picturing Vic in the horrible clothes Jaime described, but his should-be bellowing laugh was reduced to a strained snort as Vic glared back at him venomously with a look that said "Don't you dare Michael."
Jaime carried on with his story gracelessly as he fumbled for the words, unable to describe the dream properly. "Anyways, it was just—I don't know, but it was like...a time travel or something...I don't know man...it was 1969!" He finally declared. Mike couldn't hold in his laughter anymore at the final part, and he began to double over laughing, strained wheeze escaping his throat like a squeaky balloon losing air.
"Aw dude, did you just marathon Back To The Future...again? Look, I know you wanna be the next Mexican Marty McFly, and we support that dream of yours, even if you don't look too good in bodywarmers, but...that's just askin' for it." Vic sympathetically apprehended with a little shake of his head. His maternal and disappointed tone of voice made Tony crack up, and Vic finally dropped his stern parent act and joined in with the mirth.
"But it was! I swear! 1969! A lady! Threw her bra at me!" Jaime punctuated almost pleadingly, his voice drowned out by the chaos of laughter.
His hysterical bandmates only laughed even harder at the bra throwing part, and Vic had to jump out of his seat and whack his younger brother in the back with immense force because he promptly choked on his drink, as the slapstick-looking act made Tony's smile grow impossibly wider.
"Yeah right, like that would ever happen. Keep on dreaming, Jaime." Vic deadpan quipped with a pokerfaced expression. Jaime finally stopped sulking and succumbed to the contagious hilarity and sheer ludicrousness of it all, dimples popping up as his laugh echoed the loudest inside the room.
After everyone had calmed down and managed to catch their breath, the place was filled with silent contentment and lingering traces of entertained expressions on their faces. Mike went to the kitchen to place his mug in the sink (but accidentally brought the drumstick with the mug instead of the spoon, which made for a very interesting story later on at band practice, when he accidentally ripped the skin off his snare drum with the metal utensil), Tony returned to fiddling with his guitar as he quietly played Dammit by Blink-182, and Vic held his pen and paper once again, but before he turned away to continue writing, he said softly to Jaime, this time with an earnest smile.
"Keep on dreaming, Jaime."
"Our lights knocked out, turned upside-down, I'm just a stupid motherfucker, can't figure it out."
