Obey me
Things I would do with each character.
Warnings: bad writing, fluff, ooc I guess. It's just some silly maladaptive daydreaming.
Lucifer
Listen to records. Don't think listening to his cursed ones are possible. Guess he's going to enjoy ABBA. Look I know it won't be his favorite but he will probably be intrigued because of how popular their music is. Use listening to music to have him dance with me. I have a large variety of records. Making out maybe to music. Enjoying a different side to him.
Mammon
Get in on schemes. Love to think of how to scam people but never do because I don't have the time or money. Chaos couple. I'm a hype person and will remind him how amazing he is. Shared adoration. He's my first and favorite. I fell in love almost as fast as he did. That soft personality just for me. He's gorgeous and sweet.
Levi
Have him help me finish every video game I'm stuck on. It's going to be awhile. Using the excuse to make him spend time with me. It'll give him confidence while I tell him how amazing he is at playing games. Nerd out over anime. Share our thoughts and eventually get him to cuddle. Then more as he gets comfortable.
Satan
Cliche but cat cafe. Love it. Get cute snacks and drinks then cuddle with cats. OMG please. Did it once and it was so much fun. Satan would die seeing a cat sleep in my lap almost the whole time. Then getting home letting him pout about not being able to have a cat. Stroking his hair as he lays his head in my lap. Bonus: I'm allergic to cats 😂
Asmodeus
I'm serious about skin care, hair care, and personal style. I would be out shopping and doing so much with him. I adore him. Giving a makeover might not work but I would let him do whatever he wanted and have fun with him. I think doing makeup and hair is intimate. It's a special bond. I don't let just anyone see me changing and telling me fashion or style advice. Sharing the latest tea with him. OMG the bond with him would be so strong. The trust.
Beel
I would have him eat and tell me about how it tastes. I have so many food issues that I just dream of eating these foods. That and tell him he's the greatest in the world. He's the biggest sweetheart ever. I'm such a simp for him. Cheering for him. Making sure he has snacks and carrying snacks with me. Cuddles with snacks while watching movies. Have to have a snack while watching movies. I can't watch without snacks.
Belphie
Stargazing while snuggling. I just want to lay in bed all day and enjoy the softest blankets, mattress, and pillows. And having such a handsome brat of a demon. So much cuddling. Playing my switch or reading. Slow kisses while running our hands over each other.
Diavolo
Take him to a Renaissance festival. Can you imagine the sheer amount of enjoyment he would have?!? Best dressed couple there. Biggest smile on his face. The excitement. Enjoying Diavolo's affection and relaxing as no one knows who he is. Spending as much time there as possible. Being able to act openly as a couple with no one watching him under a microscope. Finding a place to share some kisses.
Barbatos
Tea. Everything tea. I live in tea. Chai. Masala chai recipe. Bonding over my passion for hot leaf juice. Make him take us to my favorite tea places. (Nimrah bakery old city Hyderabad India). Enjoying one anothers company while sitting together cozy in cafes. Talking quietly with one another out of prying eyes. Stolen kisses and holding hands.
Simeon
Baking!! Work on finding the best gluten free food. I can't have gluten and it's just awful. But I want to bake with him so badly. Decorating cakes and cookies. Helping get icing off his lip. Seeing him blush from that. The debate it gives him.
Solomon
Go to occult stores and hear his opinion. Totally just want to make out with this one. Keep him from trying any magic spells. I just want to hear his interesting thoughts on things. Think he's hilarious. And enjoy teasing him back.

I'll never understand people's need to constantly criticize every single movie by calling it “unrealistic”or “illogical” and picking apart every little detail. When I watch movies, I want to be entertained. I love over the top, larger than life stunts, visual effects, and action. I don't care if any of it would never happen in real life because I know that. Realistic movies are nice too, but I also enjoy full on masala entertainers. For me, they are a form of escapism and most importantly — they're fun! I just want to forget about life for a few hours and watch the hero beat up a hundred bad guys without ever getting a scratch on his face. Of course such a situation would be impossible in real life but that's why I'm watching a movie, not a documentary. Media becomes way less enjoyable if one's main intention is picking it apart. Don't take it so seriously and enjoy the (fictional) ride. I'm just here for a good time.

Mandela and Maaveeran
I finally finally saw director Madonne Ashwin’s Mandela (2021) and Maaveeran (2023).
These are fantastic! Mandela is his first full-length feature film, followed by Maaveeran, and I am now a fan of this director.
Mandela (2021)
Tumblr media
Here, famous comedian Yogi Babu stars as Smiles, a barber from the Dalit caste. Smiles isn’t his actual name. It’s what the villagers call him - if not Jackass. He doesn’t remember his name. His parents are gone. His only family is this boy named Side Burns who isn’t even related to him. They live under a banyan tree. Sometimes, they’re given money for their services - sometimes they get a share of rice after Smiles gets their ration.
And then one guy steals Smiles’ money from the tree, so he goes to the post office, and the officer, Thenmozhi, recommends he get a bank account. To do that, he would need an official ID. And to get that, he would need an actual name.
With the help of Side Burns and Thenmozhi’s help, they landed on the name Nelson Mandela after the historical figure who, as Thenmozhi says, also fought for his identity.
The main conflict of the movie is that two political parties tied for number of voters. When Mandela’s voter ID arrived, they start fighting over him.
It’s definitely a great film to watch, with a Dalit as the main character. It doesn’t ask the audience to break the caste system though. It does talk about vote-buying as a very “normal” custom that people are used to doing or take for granted. It presents the issues to the viewer and leaves you to think.
Trigger Warning: there is a short scene where Mandela contemplates suicide but he gets interrupted and has a conversation with a younger woman who opens his eyes to see his situation through a different perspective
Maaveeran (2023)
Tumblr media
What a truly fun film! Madonne Ashwin brought a smart and unique take to the table of masala action hero movies. It’s a very meta film. It places the action hero formula and elements in a fun new angle. I suggest it to anyone who loves to watch action hero films. I say “action hero” films instead of just action films because this movie focuses on The Hero, The Great Warrior aka Maaveeran. It’s about how one person (usually a man) or two (if it’s a dual hero movie) fights for his people and beats up bad guys while looking cool. They’re a superhero without the powers.
Sivakarthikeyan is in amazing form in this movie - and I don’t just mean his physique. He looks cool in the action scenes, as both someone who doesn’t really know how to fight and later as someone who fully embraces his “role” in the story.
Cinematography is slick, action sequences are quick and largely more grounded than in the usual masala movies.
The main story revolves around Sathya who is a comic artist. He draws the story The Great Warrior, which has been running in the papers for decades. He and his family were forced out of their home by the river and into a shabbily-done apartment complex with other families. Sathya, the opposite of most masala action heroes, does not want to complain. Unlike his mother (and the heroic father who died when he was young), Sathya isn’t confrontational, not even after his sister were assaulted (off-screen) by a neighbor.
He then hears his mother complain about him being a coward.
Cue TRIGGER WARNING: attempted suicide
Sathya, when he hears this, tries to take his own life. He gets stopped when his sister calls him via phone. He tries to get down but falls instead because of the substandard construction. This accident leads to him hearing a voice (by Vijay Sethupathi 🥰) that narrates the story of The Great Warrior, with Sathya as The Hero.
It is honestly a fun film. This might be my favorite SK film. Sathya is a great character. Despite him constantly resisting the Voice, we get hilarious masala action hero movie elements. It is SO FUN. I don’t know what else I can say — this movie is just a fun and enjoyable one.
If you’ve seen many mass action hero movies, you will recognize the elements in Maaveeran and how they wove it into the story in a very smart way.
Oh and THERE IS A POST-CREDIT SCENE! I found it very very satisfying and wrapped up the story in a good way.
I will be rewatching this with my family because it’s a truly enjoyable flick.
(One of these days I swear I will write a paper on this, just you wait, world)

Watch them with subtitles, mimicking pronunciations and absorbing common phrases. You'll be surprised at how quickly you start picking things up. Imagine yourself understanding those hilarious movie dialogues and feeling a part of the on-screen action!
Fourth Course: Musical Masala
Music is a universal language, and Hindi music is no exception. Turn up the volume on those Bollywood playlists or discover the soulful melodies of Indian classical music. Spice Up Your Studies
Here are some additional tidbits to add some extra flavor to your Hindi learning journey:
Flashcard Feasts: Ditch the boring flashcards and create your own visually appealing ones. Use pictures, funny doodles, or even incorporate those delicious Indian spices to represent different vocabulary words.
Label Your World: Turn your surroundings into a Hindi classroom! Stick labels on everyday objects in your house with their Hindi names. It'll be a constant reminder and a fun way to practice.
Think in Hindi: Challenge yourself to think in short Hindi phrases throughout the day. Start with simple things like "I am going to..." or "I like...". This will prime your brain for Hindi and make speaking it more natural.
Hindi Holidays: Celebrate Indian festivals like Diwali or Holi and learn the associated vocabulary and traditions. It's a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the culture and make your learning more meaningful.
Dessert: A Celebration of Flavors
Food is the heart and soul of Indian culture, and learning Hindi goes hand-in-hand with appreciating its delicious cuisine. As you explore recipes for curries, biryanis, and sweets, learn the names of the ingredients and dishes in Hindi. Imagine yourself ordering food with confidence at an Indian restaurant, impressing your friends with your newfound knowledge (and maybe getting a few pronunciation laughs along the way).
Remember, the key to language learning is to make it fun and engaging. So, ditch the rote memorization and embrace the delicious world of Hindi. With a little creativity and a dash of spice, you'll be surprised at how quickly you'll be saying "Namaste" to fluency!

India Extruded Snacks: A Crunchy Delight for Every Palate
India Extruded Snacks : Extruded snacks have become a popular choice among snack lovers in India. These crunchy treats, made through the extrusion process, offer a wide variety of flavors, textures, and shapes. This article explores the world of extruded snacks in India, including their popularity, manufacturing process, diverse range of options, and their significance in the country's snacking culture.
Popularity of Extruded Snacks: Extruded snacks have gained immense popularity in India due to their addictive taste, convenience, and versatility. They are widely consumed as snacks during tea-time, movie nights, parties, and even as lunchbox treats. Their popularity is attributed to their unique shapes, crispiness, and a wide array of flavors that cater to diverse taste preferences.
Manufacturing Process: Extruded snacks are made using a process called extrusion, where a dough or paste is forced through a machine called an extruder. The extruder uses heat and pressure to cook the dough and form it into the desired shape. The dough may consist of various ingredients like corn, rice, wheat, potatoes, or legumes, which are mixed with water, seasonings, and additives. The dough is then passed through a die, resulting in the distinct shapes and textures of the snacks.
Diverse Range of Options: Extruded snacks in India come in a wide range of options, satisfying every snacker's cravings. Some popular varieties include: a) Puffed Snacks: Puffed snacks are light and airy, made by subjecting the dough to high temperatures and pressure. They include favorites like cheese balls, cheese puffs, and corn puffs.
b) Kurkure: Kurkure is a popular Indian brand known for its extruded snacks. These snacks are made from a mix of cornmeal, rice, and other flours, seasoned with a variety of spices and flavors. Kurkure offers an assortment of flavors like masala, tomato, cheese, and more.
c) Fryums/Papadums: Fryums or papadums are extruded snacks that are shaped like discs, rings, or sticks. They are typically deep-fried or roasted and can be enjoyed as standalone snacks or as accompaniments to meals.
d) Noodles and Sticks: Extruded snacks also include noodle-based snacks and stick-shaped snacks that come in various flavors, such as masala, tomato, or spicy chili.
Significance in Indian Snacking Culture: Extruded snacks have become an integral part of Indian snacking culture. They offer a convenient and enjoyable option for satisfying hunger pangs between meals or as an evening snack. Extruded snacks are often shared among friends and family during social gatherings and celebrations. They have become a staple in Indian households, enjoyed by people of all ages.
Innovation and Health Considerations: As consumer preferences shift towards healthier snacking options, manufacturers are introducing healthier versions of extruded snacks. These snacks may be made from whole grains, fortified with nutrients, or have reduced levels of salt and oil. Additionally, there has been a growing trend of incorporating traditional Indian flavors and ingredients into extruded snacks, appealing to consumers seeking unique and familiar tastes.
Conclusion: Extruded snacks have become a beloved part of India's snacking culture, offering a delightful crunch and a wide range of flavors. Their popularity stems from their crispy texture, diverse shapes, and the ability to cater to different taste preferences. As consumers embrace healthier snacking choices, manufacturers are adapting by introducing nutritious alternatives. Extruded snacks continue to evolve, combining innovation, traditional flavors, and convenience to satisfy the cravings of snack enthusiasts across India.

S1 E3: Sex and Sexuality in South Asian Media
In this episode, we will be talking about Sex and Sexuality in South Asian Media. This is in essence the first half of a two-part conversation. In this first half, we hope to address the broader discussions around Sex and Sexuality in the media in our region. And in our next discussion episode, the conversation will continue into an in-depth discussion around Queer Media.
It’s been empowering to see many people speak about sex so candidly today. This was nearly unimaginable even a decade ago. Unfortunately, open conversations around sex and sexuality continue to be taboo in our society, but it’s been great to see a segment of people start to chip away at that reluctance to talk about such a fundamental part of all our lives.
There are a lot of great podcasters and Youtubers who share their experiences on this (linked below). And we highly recommend you give them a listen (links below). While we absolutely value the importance of sharing lived experiences, in this episode, we will specifically look at the media we consume - how it portrays sex and sexualities of women and marginalized people, and how it shapes the greater societal conversations around these issues.
We wanted to highlight the importance of recognizing that sex and sexuality is experienced very differently and uniquely by everyone. There is no universal women’s experience or queer experience. The specific socio-economic and cultural locations that shape our identities empower and disempower us in different ways, also change how we engage with sex and our sexualities.
The movies and shows we plan to talk about in this episode come from Netflix productions, slightly indie parts of Bollywood, and the West Bengali film industry. While the chosen media here vary in their representations of language, socioeconomic class, urban/rural spaces, and to a degree caste, a common critique for all the movies chosen (and of us as well) is that it mostly still looks at sex and sexuality through the imposed universality of an upper class/upper caste gaze. We did our best to make note of this as we discussed the issues pertaining to this episode.
The AIDS epidemic of the 1980s was the first time that conversations around sex and sexuality were forced into the public sphere, outside its usual legal, medical, and demographic confines. Then in the ’90s, with the rise in access to electricity and televisions, a new brand of more explicit sexual imagery entered South Asian homes and media.
It’s not that sex was invented in the ’90s, or that people in the subcontinent didn’t engage in sex or non-heteronormative sexuality (including gay men and sex workers). It’s just that it became a more constant presence in the media that we consumed.
In the 2000s, there was suddenly more “sex” on local television and movies. Still heteronormative, still patriarchal, of course. We were showered with the overwhelmingly hetero male gazes in Imran Hashmi movies and the item songs that accompanied almost every movie of that decade. In even worse scenarios, there was the inescapable plight of gratuitous violence in the rape scenes.
Luckily, even through that period - healthier works were being created in more indie industries or regional media. West Bengal, amongst others, was prominent in producing more “forward” and mature depictions of sex and sexuality.
What’s unfortunate is because of how inaccessible these local healthier portrayals of sex were, a lot of us who had the alternative of having access to Western narratives of sex/sexuality, kind of clung to it. Our vocabulary around sex ended up being heavily shaped by a culture that we didn’t live in. When it felt like the words for sex and sexuality are limited to medical terms or slurs, it was easy to just assume the western alternative (added with our post-colonial hang-ups).
It’s been very fortunate that the film industries and the artists within it continued to push for better media in this realm. In the last decade, we’ve seen some very prominent works that highlight sex/sexuality that made it to mainstream success. In this episode, we’ll be primarily tackling 3 movies that have done so - Lust Stories, a Bollywood anthology hit, Parched - an Indie movie directed by Leena Yadav and Rajkahini - a take on the partition of the Indian subcontinent through the setting of a brothel and the issues faced by the sex-workers residing there, directed by Srijit Mukherji.
Through these movies - we hope to tackle some of the major issues confronting discussions around sex and sexuality.
Often discussion around sex and sexuality is looked at with a male-centric gaze, especially in their depictions of women - this was especially apparent in Karan Johar’s short in Lust Stories as well as the portrayals of sex workers in Rajkahini. Some of these portrayals used women’s sexuality for the sake of shock value and titillation and did not take into account the multiple facets of people’s identities that influence their sexual expression.
Parched was refreshing in its gentler, more feminine take on women’s sexuality showing empathy, affection, and agency as necessary elements of fulfilling sexual experiences. However, even Parched failed to fully consider the “unsexy” elements of how sexuality is affected everyday lives - the women who were the protagonists in Parched were shown to be from a remote, rural village in India, and yet no discussion on their sexuality ever included the structural realities that rural women face in South Asia, like the lack of access to basic sanitation, water or even, privacy.
Any depiction of marginalized people when exploring their sexuality is incomplete without understanding their material struggles. The film, though shot from a feminine gaze, is unable to shed its upper-class/upper-caste romanticization of marginalized women’s lives. This re-orientalization of disadvantaged women’s struggles to be consumed by a privileged, upper-class/ Western audience is an appropriation of the challenges they face, packaged to be palatable (even enjoyable) to its privileged viewers. It is also made worse when the cast and the culture is a hodgepodge of people from completely different cultures than the ones being portrayed.
Rajkahini, while claiming to be telling the stories of ‘forgotten women’ ends up using the women characters as props for the overarching narratives of loss and displacement during the Partition of 1947. Only one character - that of Begum Jaan is given agency and individuality and even she becomes a stereotypical version of the soft on the inside, harsh on the outside, raspy-voiced Madame. The other women characters are only shown to be recipients of violence and abuse and the script and direction do very little to empower them.
Zoya Akhtar & Anurag Kashyap both attempted to make shorts on the sociocultural power dynamics that plague sexuality and sexual interaction in their contributions to Lust Stories. While Zoya Akhtar was more slightly successful in addressing perceptions of the economic and class dynamics between two sexual partners, Anurag Kashyap’s short woefully fell prey to a tired narrative of the “crazy woman” even though it began with a laudable commentary on the predatory relationship dynamic between older women and younger men.
Our main goal in this episode was to examine how mainstream and indie representations of sex and sexuality further (or set back) important conversations around these issues. While Parched and Zoya Akhtar’s short made some commendable efforts, most of these pieces of media were unable to take on a fully intersectional lens to these controversial, but extremely relevant issues for the larger South Asian audience.
In our upcoming episodes, we plan to address topics in consent and rape culture which we briefly touched on in this episode. We also hope to tackle movies from other parts of South Asia as we do this. This episode was so important to us, be sure to let us know what you thought of this episode!

What Would Gail Do?
For the today’s blog post, Gentle Reader, here’s a quick fun one for you.
Some pithy answers to some frequently asked questions.
What is your guiltiest pleasure that few know about?
Great British Bake Off, closely followed by Trader Joe’s Paneer Tikka Masala and Marie Claire magazine. Sometimes I can be found indulging in all three at once.
What hobbies do you have and how do they influence your work?
I like to sew, dance, cook, read, and eat. All of these things sneak into my books: I’m always describing the way people move, what they are wearing, and what they consume. In Competence my characters form an on dirigible book group.
What can we find you doing to relax?
Shoe shopping, drinking tea, more shoe shopping, thinking about shoe shopping, drinking more tea – it’s a simple life.
What would happen to your writing if there was a shortage (gasp!) of tea or chocolate?
I could probably survive without the chocolate. I don’t know if I could function as a human being without tea, let alone write.
Has your sense of humor ever gotten you into trouble?
More times than I can possibly count. I always think I’m hilarious and I will open my big mouth at the most inopportune times. Booze, let me just say, does not help with this problem.
Is there a place, activity, or person that is your hiding spot?
Yes, any place where I can have a great cup of tea and be surrounded by a civilized little shade garden.
What’s one random tidbit about yourself?
I find endless comedic enjoyment in the ridiculous: the Westminster Dog Show, rubber animals, string cheese, squid, that kind of thing. Also, I’m a mean lean pinball player.
Can you tell us something about you we can’t see on your wikia?
All my inanimate objects have names (I think it’s rude to yell at them without calling them by name). Oh and I’m famous amongst my friends for a certain breakfast item called the “eggy cup.”
Would you rather be a vampire, a werewolf, or a ghost?
Werewolf, no question. I’ve always wanted to be able to change shape, even if I were forced to do it every month. Most of us ladies are quite accustomed to engaging in the emotional equivalent of a monthly shape change already, I suspect it wouldn’t be too difficult to adapt to werewolfdom.
How would you react if you were you attacked by a vampire without even a proper introduction?
Oh, I have no pride or gumption. I would run to the nearest public area yelling for the constabulary.
If you could spend one day in Victorian–era London, what would you do (and, more importantly, what would you wear)?
I should love to visit the Crystal Palace and the Great Exhibition displays housed there. I’d wear the appropriate day dress, probably something in teal velvet with hundreds of tiny buttons and a very outrageous hat. Ivy has nothing on me with regards to taste in hats. (Find out more on the Crystal Palace on my 1850s History Pinterest board.)
What are some of your favorite films?
In no particular order:
Dangerous Liaisons
Pride & Prejudice
Tipping the Velvet
North & South,
Gosford Park
Room With A View
Maurice
Cold Comfort Farm
Grosse Pointe Blank
Latter Days
Ever After
Underworld
Find out more on my Recommended TV & Movies Pinterest board.
What would you like it to say on your tombstone?
“Died still angry about Firefly and the Library of Alexandria.”
what it will actually say is
“She only wanted to taste it once.”

★ “I have experienced Bharat’s emotions in my own life” !
June 7, 2019
The heart-throb of Bollywood, Salman Khan, has yet another blockbuster treat for his fans, with his latest film Bharat. And, as he always does, Khan has added his own unique magic to the festival of Eid with this release. The trailer and songs of the film first whipped up a huge buzz and the audience now can’t contain the excitement they see the actor in his newest avatar on the big screen. Khan speaks of the layered character, the adulation of his fans, and why he feels the need to raise the bar with every film, in conversation with Anita Britto
Your fans still see you as the 20-year-old Salman Khan from Maine Pyar Kiya…
(Cuts In) This is an honour that they give me, it is their love. Yeh toh unka badappan hai. (Smiles)
And we have seen how your stardom has only increased in the last three decades.
I really appreciate that. I think they feel that also because of the films I do. The films have lots of humour, action and entertainment, and maybe that is why I think they are not able to see the age factor, which let me tell you is a good thing! (Smiles)
But how do you keep yourself so fresh with every film and every role that you do?
I have been very lucky with the scripts I have been getting. The scripts I have chosen so far have taken me in the right direction. I think that is why my fans like me on the big screen. And it is not just me, they also like the films. There is that heroism, comedy, romance and then there is an emotional thread. If you put all these together with the masala that should be there in a film, it is something the audience will like.
We all like masala in our food and that is why it is so tasty. So, therefore, it should be there 1,000 per cent in the films we do and see. If you make a film on one single track, it would not interest me or the audience. Like if you make a murder mystery or a thriller, they should also have songs, romance, action, thrills… it should all be there. A single line, a single-track film is something I would not enjoy. So, when I hear a script like this, which does not interest me, I start yawning. Then I know that yeh picture life mein kabhi nahi karni hai.
You spoke about emotion in a film. What was the emotional connect you felt with Ode To My Father that you decided to adapt it for the Indian audience?
It was actually the father-son bond in that film that I connected with. We keep on doing films on the mother-son relationship. But this angle, the father-and-son bond, is the most amazing one. The thing with it is that the emotional connection is not blatantly visible. It is the only relationship where one person is proud that the other has become bigger than they are. When the son makes it bigger than the father, the father is very proud of his achievements.
Did you resonate with that emotion because of your relationship with your father? Did that reflect in the film?
My relationship with my father is one where we are friends who have a lot of respect for each other, especially where I have a lot of respect for my father.
During Sultan, you had mentioned that you needed to push yourself more, since you have achieved this level of stardom. Is that still a motivator for you?
The thing is that someone liking a film and someone not liking a film, both motivate me. If someone says to me that they did not enjoy one of my films, then I have to make him or her, the audience, like the next one that I do. I know that if they did not like the previous one, they will not come to see the next one because they can say that they did not like the film before. But when someone else goes and sees that film and says that this film is very good, that is when the audience will go to the theatre and watch it. It is always about raising the bar for yourself. And for the fan who appreciated the previous film, I need to give him or her much more so that they can appreciate the next film I am doing too.
Your fans idolise you, and the roles and characters that you play. Does that factor come in when you are choosing a script?
I, myself, am a big movie buff and I will only watch films that really interest me. Now, with ticket prices going through the roof, we need to give the films that we do our blood and sweat to make sure the audience comes to theatres and really enjoys the film, enjoys what they are seeing on the big screen. We have to make sure it is not a waste of money for them.
You have worked with Ali Abbas Zafar in Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai. What made him the right fit as the director of Bharat?
I had mentioned this film to Ali when we were shooting for Tiger Zinda Hai. When he saw it, he liked the film (Ode To My Father) and said he would be keen to do a Hindi film adapted from that story. Ali and I have done two films together and so has Katrina (Kaif), with Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Tiger Zinda Hai. We know Ali and he was, at that point, the right choice to direct Bharat.
We spoke to Ali last week and he mentioned that an Eid release with Salman Khan comes with a lot of expectations from fans. Is there something you keep in mind to make sure your fans have a festive weekend?
I want people to come in and enjoy the film. Like the last film, some time ago, was Tubelight. And even though Tubelight was a beautiful film, it was not an Eid film. That is where we messed up. If it had released on any other day, then Tubelight would have been approached very differently as a film. If you tell the audience to watch films like Dabangg or Wanted, which have all the dhamaal, masti, action and masala, where dhaad, dhaad, dhaad kisi ko dho rahe hain, they like these films. These movies did good numbers at the box office as well. So when the audience goes in to see a film of mine, they want to thoroughly enjoy it. And that is what I want to give them. I want to give them happiness, I want to give them enjoyment, I want to give them heroism, I want to give them nice, kickass lines as well, which they can use, and the right kind of emotion. There always has to be emotion.
Your character spans 70 years and has several layers. How did you internalise those emotions?
I have experienced this in my own life and I have used it. I have used the way I used to be earlier and where I was 15 years ago, and where I am now. I have these characters which I have seen myself go through. Then for the older one, I have the best example in front of me, and that is my father. I played a 70-year-old in the film and my father, touch wood, is 84 years old in real life. He still takes two to three rounds at Carter Road every day; he practices yoga; he has started doing pilates.
Really?
Yes, he does that. (Laughs)
That’s really great.
Yes, so I just looked at him and designed the character according to that.
We also spoke to Sunil Grover, who plays a pivotal role in Bharat, and Shashank Arora. Both of them said that, as an actor, you make them feel comfortable but the aura of Salman Khan is intimidating.
Both of them have very good roles in the film. Shashank is a superb actor and plays my younger brother in the film. But I don’t really think I intimidated them. They are just saying that just to give me that respect. As actors, they are very competent. They know their job, so there is no nervousness at all, especially relating to work. If someone is standing in front of you who knows their work, there is no question of being intimidated. I think I should be the one to be intimidated by an actor like Sunil Grover because he is by far one of the most talented people I have ever met.
Speaking about younger actors, you are working with Alia Bhatt in your next film Inshallah, and you mentioned that she is ‘godown of talent’.
I was asked a question where someone said she is a bundle of talent. So I said that a bundle of talent is working with a godown of talent. That’s what I said. But, yes, it was quoted the way you said it, so it is not your mistake.
What is that one thing that the audience will take back after watching Bharat?
They are going to take away lots of things from Bharat. They are going to take away the father-and-son chemistry, they are going to take away the bond of a family, they are going to take away responsibility and the fact that for handling these responsibilities, you do not have to be a boring man, you can enjoy your life as well.

top 5 kareena kapoor movies!
I love this question! 💕
Asoka (2001) - The fact that this film released the same year as K3G with Kareena playing drastically different characters blows my mind. The girl can act. She was amazing as Kaurwaki and I loved the minimal makeup look (I would always do my eyeliner like hers lol). I think Kareena held her own against SRK and their chemistry was on fire. Plus she looked amazing in the songs. Her introduction scene? Iconic. One thing I really love about Kareena is how well she can emote with just her eyes, especially in the Raat Ka Nasha song. Like, I could literally feel her longing. Also the scene where Asoka was teaching her how to use a sword rewired my brain. The sexual tension 🫠
Jab We Met (2007) - In my opinion, this film is the closest you can get to perfection. It still feels fresh even after all these years and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to get into Bollywood. Kareena truly shined as Geet and I loved her character development throughout the film. And who can forget her iconic "I'm my favorite" dialogue? I need her confidence. She had wonderful chemistry with Shahid and I love how their relationship blossomed organically without his character expecting anything in return. I can never get tired of watching this film. The songs, outfits, cinematography, even the side characters – everything was on point!
Talaash (2012) - I love this film so much. It's dark & gritty but also very heartbreaking with an eerie vibe. Kareena looked beautiful (her outfits were sooo cute) and I think this was her best performance – very mature and restrained. Aamir & Rani were amazing but Kareena's character left me haunted. There was a gentle softness about her, but you could feel her lingering sadness whenever she appeared onscreen. I also appreciated the (non-romantic) pairing with Aamir and how he brought closure to her character.
Fida (2004) - Kareena was really good in this. I think it was the first time she played a negative role, but she looked so good while being bad. She also had the cutest shoulder length hairstyle which I loved so much, I had to copy it. Kareena & Fardeen were super hot together and I loved their chemistry. I was rooting for Fardeen to kick Shahid's ass. Those two characters (in my opinion) showed us the difference between a man vs a boy. Despite being flawed and a bit cheesy, Fida is still an enjoyable thriller with good songs and tons of drama. Also the shower scene still shocks me to this day because it was just that unexpected.
Bodyguard (2011) - Yes, I know this is technically a Salman Khan film but I watched it in theaters only for Kareena. She looked absolutely gorgeous. I loved her styling and wardrobe so much. Her intro scene was amazinggg. I also liked that they used Karisma's voice whenever Kareena's character was pretending to be the secret admirer – it was such a cute little detail. Kareena looked especially stunning in Teri Meri, though I wish they used a different male singer (no offense). I love fun masala films so much and this one is definitely up there!
put “top 5” anything in my ask and i will answer ok go

Incredible Indian Film History
Indian cinema, often known as Bollywood, has played a significant part in providing us with enjoyable films over the years. Bollywood has provided a wide range of entertainment, including action, suspense, thrillers, comedies, and romance. However, are you aware of the industry's history and how it has evolved into one of India's most financially rewarding sectors? Not only that, but Bollywood is now the world leader not only in terms of film production but also in terms of overall audience interest.
Tumblr media
Where it all began
A writer for a magazine originated the term Bollywood in 1970. Although Raja Harishchandra's first Indian film, released in 1913, is considered the beginning of Indian cinema history, the genre has a much longer history. Dadasaheb Phalke, the film's producer, was the country's first film mogul. Bollywood, in contrast to Hollywood, grew slowly in the beginning as an industry.
1920–1945
Several new production enterprises arose starting in the early twenties. Most of the films being made at the time were based on myths or historical events. The year was 1931, and the film Alam Ara had just been released. Bollywood's first talkie was a watershed moment for Indian filmmaking and opened the path for what was to come. The number of production companies and films shot up immediately after that. Soon, colour films and animated pictures were being produced. There was a clear pattern emerging. In each picture, crowds and ticket sales grew in proportion to each other.
A new era begins to emerge
After 1947, modern Indian film began to take shape. Films about history and mythology had long since been superseded by films about social transformation. In order to raise social consciousness, films began to focus on dowry, polygamy, and prostitution, all of which were still practised in the community at the time. Directors like Bimal Roy and Satyajit Ray, who concentrated on the lives of individuals from the lowest classes and who were marginalised by society, began making films in the 1950s.
After that, there were the masala flicks (The Today’s Bollywood)
In the 1970s, director Manmohan Desai began the masala cinema era or style in Bollywood. His purpose was to amuse people in such a way that they forgot about their problems, which he accomplished with his films as well. With its mix of action, comedy, and heartbreak, the film is still a model for the Bollywood industry today. Indian filmmakers are now paying more attention to things like plot and character development than ever before.
Slumdog Millionaire and other films like it have received critical acclaim around the world, and Bollywood has now entered a new chapter in its history with individuals and audiences from all over the world paying attention and admiring the industry's work.
Bollywood is one place where people from all walk of life can expect some real entertainment. It provides movies with drama, action, romance, thrill, adventure, and much more.
