Autocorrect Drabble
prompt from Fruity Four discord... just playing around. ==============
Robin: lol we're at work steve got one of those girly drinks from the cafe again someone came in and had to leave their own coffee at the counter think they left and forgot it...
Nancy: Oh no,
Robin: guess which coffee cup steve picked up and was about to drink
Steve: Robin saved me, but now she's making me do all the closing chores alone as payment.
Eddie: drink it!
Nancy: Ew, Eds. :P
Robin: it's black coffee no sugars good luck with that one E
Eddie: driiiiink it what if i date u, huh?
==========
"What have you done! Robiiiiin, what have you done?"
"Dude I'm counting the till, you made me lose track!"
"Check group chat, Robs."
"Ughhhh." She checked her phone. Her eyebrows shot up. "Huh."
The coffee cup in question was right there still. He's kissed enough people, it wouldn't be that gross would it?
"Hey Robin, whose cup was it again?"
"You know it was a typo."
He continues eyeballing the cup. There's a name written on it. Amy C.
"Pretty sure we went to high school with an Amy C. Can you get mono-"
"Yup." She interrupts without looking up, in the middle of counting a stack of fives for the float.
"Let me finish! Can you get mono from someone's cup if you've already made out with them before?"
"You absolutely can. And I'm not bringing you soup if you get sick from this."
He shoves his phone in her hands, she knows the password.
"'Kay, tell me when you're recording."
Robin grins, sets up the shot, nods. Steve holds the cup's name and order to the camera then walks backwards until he's in frame and chugs it, then makes a face at the bitter taste. He looks back at the camera.
"Once a keg king, always a keg king. So Munson, you a man of your word?" He winks.
They watch it back, Steve giving Robin a dirty look when her laughter is audible in the recording.
"Ok, send it to chat."
=================
"Hey uhh Eddie what did you say to Steve in chat just earlier?"
"What? You were there, Nance."
"Just go with it." There was no arguing when she crossed her arms and pursed her lips like that. He loved when Nancy got bossy though.
"Uh, I dared him to drink some random's coffee?"
"You sure about that?"
She's got a weird twinkle in her eye. Eddie pulls out his phone, sees the autocorrect and giggles. He starts typing, but so does Steve. A video pops into the chat.
He and Nancy watch the video.
Nancy sends the next reply: a photo of Eddie, bright red. The text underneath reads, "I think you broke him."

As some of you may know, this month will be happening the fanfiction event Multiamory March (hosted by @polyamships), which is similar to Femslash February - but instead of fanfics centered on femslash ships, it's fanfics centered on polyamorous ships. So just like I did last month with Femslash February, I'll be taking prompts through all this month for Multiamory March and posting them in my account on AO3 iammyownsaviour (ant1hero). Here's the list of all the fandoms and ships I want to write on march, you can send me an anonymous or non anonymous inbox with your prompts which can be more than one (I'd actually love if people send multiple prompts 'cause it helps a lot) and you can even say in the inbox, in case you have an AO3 account, if you want me to gift the fanfic to you!
*I'll accept prompts from any prompt list you find, you can even create them if you want. I have a preference for AU's, Tropes and Taylor Swift lyrics but any kind of prompts is fine!

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes Pulled Off Air Amid Reports of Red Hot Romantic Affair
By Author Kay D. Rhodes at Dec 05, 2022 • Category Amy Robach
Neither Amy Robach nor T.J. Holmes will be saying good morning to America any time in the immediate future.
ABC News President Kim Godwin told staffers on Monday that the co-hosts of GMA3 will take a temporary seat from their anchoring duties while, according to Variety, “the news division weighs the effect their recent disclosure of a romantic relationship might have on the program and the company.”
Tumblr media
The photos were taken while the reporters were seemingly on a trip together to upstate New York and they included at least one snapshot of Holmes touching his colleague’s rear end.
Both television personalities deleted their social media accounts in response to the scandal.
Robach’s husband, actor Andrew Shue, then took down all references to his wife from hissocial media account after these images went viral.
Tumblr media
Holmes, for his part, shares daughter Sabine with wife Marilee Fiebig, whom he wed in 2010.
He is also the father of daughter Brianna and son Jaiden with ex-wife Amy Ferson.
The anchors were in their usual spots on Thursday and Friday on the aforementioned Good Morning America spinoff, making no reference to their supposed relationship or the damning pictures that appear to have outed the romance.
Godwin, meanwhile, told ABC News employees during an editorial call todday that Robach and Holmes had not violated any company policy, according to a person familiar with the matter.
However, she indicated ABC News felt the matter had become “an internal and external disruption,” and “wanted to do what’s best for the organization,” per the aforementioned Variety report.
“Amy and T.J. have been arriving to work pretending like everything is normal, they have been carrying on like they would any other day,” a source has told Us Weekly.
“They were always playful with each other, like two people who were dating.
“Amy and T.J. didn’t seem like they were trying to keep their relationship secret anymore.
Tumblr media
To date, Robach and Holmes have remained quiet about their affair.
During the Thursday, December 1, broadcast, they joked about being ready for the weekend.
The following day, Holmes quipped that he wanted their “great week” to “keep going and going,” prompting Robach to joke after an awkward laugh:
“Speak for yourself.”

This is a passage I wrote during Drop In and Write.
The prompt was a character who thinks they’re funny when they’re actually not.
I added to and edited it after the fact.
The piece:
The morning fog had dissipated by the time the carriage was pulled under the entrance to Hatfield.
From first impressions, it appeared to be a decently sized town. Not as big or bustling as a port city like Essex, but more… quaint.
Quaint was a good word to describe it.
“Look! A theatre!”
Kay said as he looked out the window.
On their left was a large, open air theatre with walls surrounding the main stage.
“I’ve never been to a theatre before.”
Kara said.
“What’s it like?”
“There’s lots of different performances, but they’re all rather fun to watch. I used to sneak in with Will and Xer all the time.”
Kay said, turning back to the troll girl and his teacher.
“Have you seen any plays, sensei?”
“A few, when I had the time to enjoy them.”
Hiroshi said, leaning back in his seat a little.
“They were mostly musicals, so they involved a lot of singing and choreographed dancing. Some of those writers really knew how to craft a good song.”
“Can you sing one for us?”
“Er… maybe later. I can’t really think of anything good right now.”
“Aw…”
“What about that song you used on the guardsmen two months ago?”
Kara asked.
“Oh, that? That was a children’s song from my homeland called Toryanse. I’ve always found those sorts of songs a little eerie, so it was appropriate to unnerve them.”
“Ohh. That makes sense.”
The conversation went on for a few more minutes before it died in favor of silently awaiting their arrival. Kay noted landmarks as they went.
Luckily, it wasn’t long before the carriage stopped at their destination.
Amaryllis and Erica hopped down from the driver’s seat and opened the doors for them.
The two younger members of the party were quick to put their glamour stones back on as they clambered out with their luggage.
Kay was a little wobbly as his feet touched the ground, but he caught himself before he could fall over.
“Whoa… ugh, I feel so stiff.”
“That’s what riding in a carriage for days will do to you.”
Amaryllis said.
“It’ll wear off soon.”
“So… where have you chosen to set us up?”
Hiroshi asked, his own glamour applied as Erica unhooked her horse from the carriage.
He turned around and looked up at the sign hanging from above the entrance to the tavern.
“The Hoary Boar?”
‘Heh, that almost rhymes’
He thought to himself amused.
“That’s right. I know the man who runs this place. He’s one of us.”
Amaryllis said, leading the group inside.
The interior of the tavern was like any other, aside from slightly different decor and hunting trophies on the wall. The most prominent of these trophies was a large boar’s head hung just above the front desk.
‘Hence the Hoary Boar.’
Kara glanced up and saw an award for a sort of performance atop the mantle.
“Garrett! Get out here and meet your guests!”
Amaryllis called.
A thud and a curse sounded from behind the wall before a large man came out from the back.
“Comin’, comin’!”
He was almost as large and burly as Beorn came up to the desk. He had the appearance of a woodsman with a friendly look about him.
“Amy! I thought I knew that sultry voice of yours. Who’re these fine folks?”
“They’re here to help me with a job. We just need lodgings for while we’re here.”
“Right, of course. Hope you can pay for all of ‘em.”
“You know I can.”
Garrett smiled knowingly.
“So, you all want to room together or keep the children and parents separate?”
It took a minute for the four to process what the innkeeper just said.
“Uh, no! I mean, we’d like a room together, yes, but they’re not- I’m not their mother.”
Erica stammered, blushing at the suggestion.
“I’m their teacher, and she and I are not married.”
Hiroshi further clarified, his cheeks dusted pink.
Part of him entertained the thought of the four of them being a family in that way.
“My apologies, sir! You just looked the part.”
He turned to the blonde.
“You want a room to yourself, Amy? The one you had last time is available.”
“That would be lovely, Garrett. Could you put them up close to mine?”
“Already figured that. That’ll be two silver for all of you.”
“Thank you, Garrett. May the Goddess bless you.”
“And you.”
After paying, the huldra woman led the four upstairs to their rooms. They were down the hall, the rooms right across from one another.
“Amy?”
Hiroshi asked.
“Yes, that’s my nickname. Some find my name hard to say. It doesn’t mean anything.”
“I see. So… he’s a Fae Runner too?”
“He is. He’s actually a Bearkind.”
“I figured. I’ve got a Bearkind under my employ as well. He’s our bartender.”
“I’ve met him. He really knows his alcohol.”
Erica interjected.
“Interesting.”
Suddenly, Kay started laughing to himself.
“What’s so funny?”
Kara asked.
“I was imagining what it would be like if you and I were actually siblings. With Miss Erica as our mother and sensei our father.”
“Oh?”
“I don’t think I’d be able to stand it.”
Kara huffed, cheeks puffed out as she shoved Kay out of her way.
The half elf just laughed at her reaction.
Erica smirked.
“Now, children, you mustn’t fight. We’re only here temporarily.”
She said in a motherly tone.
“Isn’t that right?”
Hiroshi smiled mischievously while Amaryllis just looked at what was happening with a raised eyebrow.
“Listen to your mother, you two.”
Kay tried to keep from laughing out loud as they all entered their rooms.
Kay’s mirth was contagious, as they all burst into a fit of giggles. Something about the thought of them all being a functional family unit striking them as funny.
They couldn’t look at each other as they set their bags down, as it would only send them into another giggle fit.
The room was a standard two-bed, one-bathroom scenario with a window on one wall and a hunting trophy hung up opposite the bed.
It was a stag, its impressive rack taking up much of the wall.
A dresser was set up underneath for them all to store their clothes.
They all managed to calm down once Amaryllis came in to check on them a few minutes later.
“What are you all laughing about?”
“Oh, nothing, nothing.”
Hiroshi cleared his throat, a mirthful look still on his face.
“Let’s get down to business, then. Are you going to tell us more about the job? I know we’re going to save your daughter, but there’s more to it. Isn’t there?”
Amaryllis sighed as she walked in and took a seat at the edge of the second bed.
“There is. You’ll need a way into the Academy, and I know a way. However…”
She paused, thinking over how she was going to say this.
“It appears there is something else we need to take care of before we can rescue my daughter.”
“And that is?”
“The way is being blocked by a monster, but we can’t access its lair until nightfall. The entrance is enchanted like that.”
The four looked at each other.
“Is there anything special we need to defeat it? What sort of monster is it?”
Erica asked.
“From what my intel has gathered, it’s a giant serpent creature. A sort of lesser dragon with two limbs.”
“A two-limbed dragon, huh? Sounds like either a Wyvern or Lyndwyrm. Shouldn’t be a problem either way.”
Hiroshi said, shrugging.
His apprentices were surprised at him, all except for Kara.
“He defeated the Elder Wood Dragon. Surely a Wyvern is no match for him.”
“Oh yeah…”
Kay remembered that detail.
“That might be true, but I won’t be the only one fighting it. You three are going to be doing that. I’ll be providing support.”
“What!?”
Erica exclaimed.
“What do you mean we’ll be fighting it!?”
“Didn’t you all fight a bunch of guys in that contest thing?”
Amaryllis asked.
“Yes, but they were human magic users! This is a dragon we’re talking about!”
Kara said.
“A lesser dragon. You’ll be fine. Just remember your training.”
Hiroshi said, trying to instill confidence in his young pupils.
“Yeah!”
Kay said, genuinely excited at the prospect despite his own nerves.
“Just imagine all the loot we can get off it!”
Erica still looked upset, but she had to admit he had a point.
“Still…”
Hiroshi stretched his arms above his head.
“Since we’ve got plenty of time until nightfall, I say we go explore the town for a bit. Get some supplies, maybe check out that theatre?”
“That sounds nice…”
Erica said, a little defeated. She perked up at the mention of exploring.
“I am getting rather hungry…”
Kara said, one hand on her stomach.
“I know this place near the theatre that serves really good meat skewers.”
Amaryllis said, her own stomach starting to bother her.
“I could eat.”
Kay said, already halfway to the door.
A few minutes later, Hiroshi was given the keys to their room and they exited the building.

controlled descent
down a long winding road sits a small house four miles outside of town
there’s a pear tree in the front yard, a black cat in the window, and an iron-wrought gate encompassing it all
it keeps the darkness at bay while life blossoms in the house
and yet, a soft stilled silence descends onto the roof, settles into every crevice and corner
like a heavy crescendo, it suffocates the earth, lands delicately on the trees and the soil and the chimney
and it paints it all in muted gray tones and cold muffled evenings.

Hey. I'm here to help you procrastinate on your fics lol. Can you do "hey, look at me..." for bechloe? Please and thanks :)
Dklsdjflkgd I am very grateful for that 😂 we can certainly do that!! 🥰💖
Hurt/Comfort Prompts
"Hey, look at me..."
Beca’s body felt like a lead weight as she lay on the deck of the yacht, wincing as she tried in vain to get up. She genuinely didn’t think he’d actually shoot her, she figured his gun was just for show, that he would wave it around a bit, maybe hit her a little, but actually shoot her?! What the hell?!
“Anyone else got any smart ideas?” Fergus sneered at the Bellas, the group of women huddling closer together, Amy struggling furiously against the goons holding her back, “No? Good. Now sit quietly while Patricia gets me the money.”
Beca grunted softly as she tried to move again, pain radiating through her as she bit her lip. It would’ve been one thing if she had been shot for running her mouth, hell her dad would never let hear the end of it if she had. But Beca had been trying to gently reason with the psychopath threatening her family.
“Look, dude, we’re just a group of acapella singers trying to relive our happiest moments together. None of us have ever hurt a fly, we just want to hang out and sing, that’s all. So, how about you just let us go, no harm no foul, and we all go back to our lives, pretend this whole thing never happened? No sense in getting yourself in trouble with the US Army right?”
God getting shot hurt... it was getting harder to breathe too, dammit this was really bad. She had to get out of here, she had to get off this boat...
“Becs?”
Chloe.
Beca managed to lift her head a little, her hooded gaze meeting Chloe’s frightened one. She hated seeing Chloe frightened, hated seeing the tears on her cheeks. Chloe’s fingers ran softly through her hair, Beca leaning into the touch as she swallowed thickly.
“You’re okay.” Chloe mumbled, “You’re going to be okay.”
Beca snorted a little, wincing as Chloe gently rolled her onto her back. Chloe’s sharp gasp caused Beca to look down, now acutely aware of the hole in her side and the blood pumping from it.
“Shit...” Beca groaned, “Are you sure about that Chlo?”
“Yes.” Chloe forced a smile onto her face as she moved Beca’s hair from her face, “You’re going to be fine, because I said so okay?”
“Kay.” Beca smirked a little, “W-whatever you say Beale.”
The click of a gun safety made the world unbearably still for a moment as Chloe’s eyes widened in fear. She slowly raised her hands away from where she had been pressing her jacket into Beca’s wound, Fergus pressing the barrel of his gun hard into the back of her head.
“What do you think you’re doing sunshine?” Fergus growled, Beca helpless to do anything to help Chloe as she watched him terrorise her.
“I’m just trying to keep her alive.” How Chloe was managing to keep her voice level right now, Beca had no idea, but she was more in awe of her than usual, “I don’t care about the rest of this, about your money, about the fact you kidnapped us alright? I just want to make sure that Beca gets through this, you don’t really want to add murder to your list of charges from tonight do you?”
There was a tense moment as Fergus held his gun steady, Chloe’s eyes fixed on Beca’s as she gave her a soft smile in an attempt to reassure her.
“Fine.”
Chloe’s shoulders sagged a little in relief as the gun was removed, holding her jacket against Beca again. Beca grunted as the sudden pressure caused everything to throb anew, panting a little through her nose.
“The minute there’s any funny business, we’re going to have a problem.” Fergus turned his back on them as he returned to Amy who was currently trying to find a way to get the money transferred from the Cayman islands, no longer caring about standing up to her father. Her family was in danger, that was all that mattered.
“How can we help?” Aubrey’s jaw was clenched tight against the panic welling inside her as she put her energy into helping Beca.
“I need bandages...” Chloe sighed softly, “But um, if one of you guys has a cardigan or something I can tear up that will do.”
“Here.” Aubrey pulled off her jumper without a second thought, shivering a little as the cold night air hit her now exposed skin.
Emily quickly shrugged off her jacket and insistently wrapped it around Aubrey before she could argue with her. There was no sense in Aubrey freezing to death because she’d helped Beca.
Chloe made quick work of making bandages from Aubrey’s jumper, Ashley holding Chloe’s jacket in place as she did. The Bellas were crowded around Beca in a worried circle as Beca herself fought to stay conscious. She looked to Chloe again, her hand softly reaching out for hers as Chloe tightened the makeshift bandages around her waist.
“Thanks.” Beca whispered, managing a small smile as Chloe’s eyes flicked up from her wound to meet hers, “You always take such good care of me Chlo...”
Beca’s eyelids felt heavy as she felt Chloe’s other hand cup her cheek.
"Hey, look at me..." Chloe prompted her gently, tears making her eyes sparkle even brighter as she caressed Beca’s cheek, “You have to stay awake for me Beca okay? We’ll be out of here soon, just a little longer.”
“I- I love you.” Beca didn’t care who else was listening right now, there was only a small window left to tell Chloe how she felt, “I should’ve said something sooner...”
Chloe grinned tearfully at Beca, gripping her hand tightly in hers, “I love you too. We have plenty of time Becs, it’s okay, you’re okay.”
Beca lifted her other hand to grab the front of Chloe’s top, pulling her closer until their foreheads rested together, “I’m scared Chlo...” Beca’s voice was wobbling a little as a stray tear slipped down her cheek.
“I know.” Chloe continued to stroke her cheek as she sniffed softly, “I know. Me too... but we’ll be okay. Just a little longer baby I promise.”
Beca whimpered in pain as Chloe shifted their positions until Beca’s head was in her lap. She ran her fingers through Beca’s hair in a slow rhythm, heart pounding in her chest as she cradled her, never taking her eyes off Beca for a second.
“I’ve got you Beca. You’re okay.”
Beca could feel herself slipping away, fighting desperately against the heavy weight of sleep trying to drag her under her. Chloe was right, it would just be a little bit longer. A little longer and then she and Chloe could be together. A little longer and they’d all be safe again.
“I’m cold...” Beca sighed softly, grimacing as she moved closer to Chloe, “And tired...”
Chloe sucked in a shuddery breath as she forced another smile onto her face, “Not much longer Beca. I know you’re in pain, not much longer...”
“Here girl, I’m too warm anyway.” Cynthia-Rose gently draped her jacket over the now shivering Beca, Chloe giving her a grateful look.
“Thanks.” Beca could barely be heard as she sank deeper into Chloe’s arms, “M’trying Chloe... it’s hard...”
“You’re doing so well.” Chloe kissed Beca’s forehead, tears running down her cheeks, “You can do this Beca, c’mon.”
“M’sorry...” Beca murmured, the last thing she registered before she passed out being the soft way in which Chloe’s lips pressed against her temple.
-----
Chloe sat with her head in her hands, a blanket wrapped around her shoulders. It had been a long twenty four hours since the army had pulled them from the yacht and Beca had been out of her arms for almost all of them. She hated this, she hated sitting and waiting for someone to tell her that Beca was going to be okay. When she had passed out Chloe had tried everything to get her to wake up again, even as the sound of helicopter blades thundered overhead. Help might be here, but Chloe still had to make sure that Beca was okay.
“Hey.”
Aubrey sat next to Chloe, handing her a coffee that she had fetched her from the cafeteria.
“Any news?”
“No.” Chloe shook her head a little, sniffing as she managed a small smile for Aubrey, “No nothing. I hate this.”
“Me too.” Aubrey sighed softly, “She’ll be okay though. This is Beca ‘effin Mitchell we’re talking about.”
Chloe giggled softly as she let her head rest on Aubrey’s shoulder, “She told me she loved me Bree... after so long she actually said it. And now she might- she might-”
“It’s okay.” Aubrey wrapped her arm around Chloe’s shoulders, frowning softly as she hugged her, “You’ll have time. It’s what the two of you deserve. You’ll have time.”
“I’m looking for family of Beca Mitchell?”
Chloe’s head whipped around as a doctor approached them, wiping hastily at the tears on her cheeks, “That’s us, is she okay? Can I see her?”
“She’s okay.” The doctor nodded, smiling warmly as Chloe sagged in relief, “It was touch and go for a little while there, but she pulled through. Your girl’s a fighter.”
“You’ve no idea.” Aubrey chuckled tearfully, Chloe shaking and speechless as she hugged her, “So can we see her?”
“One at a time.” The doctor nodded, “She’s exhausted. She’s been asking for Chloe?”
“That’s me.” Chloe mumbled, “I’m Chloe. Is it okay if I-?”
Chloe turned to Aubrey who silenced her with a gentle shake of her head.
“Go. I’ll tell the Bellas she’s okay.”
Chloe moved quickly as she followed the doctor, practically throwing the door to Beca’s hospital room open. Beca looked a little startled but a soft grin quickly spread across her face as she saw Chloe in the doorway.
“Hey.” Beca croaked, wincing a little as Chloe all but dive onto her bed and wrapped her tightly into her arms, sobbing into her shoulder. Beca frowned a little as she lifted her arms to rest around Chloe, turning her head a little so she could kiss her temple.
“Hey... it’s okay weirdo. I’m fine, just like you said I would be.”
“I love you.” Chloe wept into the crook of her neck, “God, I was so scared Beca... I love you so much.”
“I love you too.” Beca kissed her head again, exhaustion pushed aside as all her attention went into comforting Chloe, “I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“I know.” Chloe sniffled, “I’m really glad you’re okay Becs.”
“Me too Chlo.” Beca mumbled into her hair, “I’d’ve been really mad if I’d died before I got to kiss you.”
Chloe giggled as she lifted her head to look at Beca, stroking her cheek with her thumb again as she moved herself from on top of her to next to her, forehead resting against Beca’s.
“I wouldn’t have been happy either...” Chloe gently nudged Beca’s nose with hers, “I’ve waited a long time to kiss you Mitchell.”
Beca grunted a little as she rolled onto her side, fingers running into Chloe’s hair as she ignored the pain that radiated in her side, “You’re such a weirdo...”
Beca closed the gap between them as she pressed her lips into Chloe’s. It was softer than she wanted it to be, but getting shot had put a dampener on her stamina so this would have to do. Still, it was perfect, it was right, it was something she should have done far sooner than this.
“I love you.” Beca whispered as she pulled back a little, “When we get back to New York, I’m taking you on a really fancy date and we’re getting our own place... no way I’m sharing with Amy anymore.”
“I love you too.” Chloe giggled again, kissing Beca’s cheek, “But I don’t need fancy dinners or anything else... I just need you.”
“Dork.” Beca grinned, snuggling into Chloe’s arms as she sighed happily, “Kinda glad I got shot now... I got everything I ever wanted because of it.”
“Too soon Beca.” Chloe chided her, but there was a note of humour in her tone, “Way too soon...”

I have decided. For 300 followers, here are 30 prompts that are just lines from my WIPs. Send me a prompt number + a character(s)/ship/platonic pairing and I’ll do a little drabble based off it. Alternatively, send me a number + “explain”/”context” and I’ll tell you a bit about the WIP and put the line in context. (Ignore the names, I copied these directly from various WIPs)
Also feel free to turn this into a prompt list ask game i’ll be genuinely curious to see anything else that comes of this.
I’ll write for the following fandoms:
Julie and the Phantoms
BBC Merlin
Harry Potter
Marvel
Miraculous Ladybug
The Order
Emma’s absence was tangible. It was a hole in Adrien’s heart that he could feel. He had never loved anyone like he’d loved Emma.
“If you bite me, will I turn into a vampire?” // “If I bite you, I promise it won’t be about letting you live further.”
“If I don’t make it back -- no listen to me. If I don’t make it out, you have to promise to stay alive. For me. You have to live if I can’t. I made my choice. If I have to pay a price like this for it, then that’s something I have to do.”
“I want one.” // “One what?” Sam asked stupidly, patting his pockets for the phone he’d left in the kitchen. Then he paused. “Oh,” he whispered, “a baby.”
Ani didn’t fancy explaining the difference between being the spirit of a dead person and being someone with ghost physiology so she generally just pretended to be a fifteenth century queen hellbent on haunting the organisation’s property. It was fun.
“I want you to stay so desperately. I wish I could find the strength to persuade you to stay. But I know you have to go and I know you’ll find me again. You always do, right?”
Myles was a soldier. Not because she wanted to be or needed to be. She was because that’s all she knew.
“Don’t worry. We haven’t added my blood -- or anyone’s for that matter -- to the potion so any large scale and or dangerous magic spells won’t come to fruition like time portals or. . .” Merlin trailed off at the look on Gwen’s face, His shoulders dropped. “I already did it, didn’t I?”
“Wh- Daisy?! No. No, no, no, no. You can’t have a crush on Daisy Louise. Reg, she will break you.”
Being a professional assassin was only fun when she actually got jobs. Otherwise she was stuck listening to Luke whining.
“It’s only been two hundred years. Angela Darling, we would never forget the promise of a saviour.” // “YOU TOLD THEM I’M A SAVIOUR?????”
Phoenix crashed through the window with a loud curse. Did she know she’d crashed into the house of the only superhero who could fight her? She stood up and brushed glass off her gray leotard. “Sorry. I thought the window was open.”
Dell stared at Kai like he’d grown a second head. “We are not throwing the king overboard.”
“If you ever touch him again,” Anna hissed, her dagger flush against the knight’s throat, “I don’t care if I bring war upon Camelot herself, I will slit your throat and leave you to bleed in the dungeons. Do you understand?”
Dealing with other people’s nightmares was easier than dealing with her own.
“This can’t be happening. I must be dreaming. There’s no way my favourite character in the whole world is standing here.” // “Why, River Farley! What a coincidence! You just happen to be my favourite character in the whole world!”
Clearly magic was an ineffective weapon when faced with Eddie and a tree branch in her hands.
“Call me a bloodsucker one more time--” // “Am I wrong, though?”
Amy stared at the chaotic mess that was her team. “Okay, so I’ve just decided that I’m your parental unit while Peter’s missing, whatever I say goes.”
Being dead was fun. Watching people slowly skew the story of your life, the greatest romance of all centuries, was decidedly not fun.
“So I just have to pretend to date you for a month and I get to piss my cousin off? Okay!”
Given the equipment, Rae would have probably tried to become a vigilante at thirteen instead of eighteen.
“Trying to forget you has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do.”
Launet was the kind of person who, upon being handed a baby, either wanted to kidnap it for herself to raise or chuck it out the window. There was no in inbetween.
“Breaking into the Hollywood Ghost Club was admittedly not my best moment but look me in the eye and tell me it doesn’t make you fall a little bit in love with me.”
“Daisy, my love, I adore you. But I genuinely would rather walk into traffic than sit on your bike with you.”
Being dead wouldn’t have been such a problem for Aleksei if he didn’t have to go about his afterlife watching the love of his life making the world’s stupidest decisions.
“I ate a peanut.” // “Aren’t you deathly allergic to nuts?” // “Yeah.” // “Je- FUCK! Did it have to be now while I’m bleeding out?”
Romeo always thought that he’d cross over when Bella eventually died. He didn’t expect her to figure out a way to bring him back to life. It was annoying. This was the seventh door he’d walked into.
Promise me that when I die, you’ll get Buzzfeed Unsolved involved. -- seen @ 8.15pm

For sailormoonsub - Rei-chan got run over by a reindeer
For @sailormoonsub who picked “Carols” and Mako Kino for the holiday prompts
Mako nervously fidgeted in her seat.
It was going to be her turn next.
She’d done what she could to avoid it being her turn.
Maybe she should just leave before-
“Is everything okay, Mako-chan?”
Ami to the rescue, as usual.
Up on the stage, Minako was belting out “Jingle Belle Rock” while Usagi and Rei cheered her on. Naru’s mom was hosting a Christmas party for all of Naru’s friends at her jewelry shop, and at this part of the night people were taking turns singing Christmas songs and carols.
Rei had done a cover of “Last Christmas” while Usagi tried to sing “Jingle Bells.” Naru and Umino had done “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” which kind of left a lot of people feeling slightly disturbed. The subtext had naturally flown right over Usagi’s head. Ami had gone for “Joy to the World.”
Makoto however, had been trying to avoid this segment of the party.
“Ah, I’m sorry Ami-chan,” Mako apologized.
“You were having a more enjoyable time earlier, before the singing began,” Ami acknowledged. “Are you feeling self conscious?”
“N-no, nothing like that,” Mako felt herself blushing, “It’s silly, really. I don’t wanna ruin the party for everyone.”
“Don’t worry about that, Mako-chan,” Ami gently replied. “If you aren’t having fun, you shouldn’t force yourself to feel differently.”
“Well I was, I just…” Mako sighed again, “I don’t know. I feel weird about singing songs at Christmastime.”
“Would you like to talk about why?” Ami asked without forcing Mako to state what was wrong.
“My parents and I, we used to sing Christmas carols, before they, you know…” Mako trailed off.
“Oh.”
There was some awkward silence between them.
“You don’t HAVE to sing if you don’t want to,” Ami diplomatically reasoned. “The party won’t hinge on whether or not a single person sings.”
“No, I’d just feel weird being the one person who doesn’t,” Mako answered.
“Then, would there be a song you’d prefer to sing that would make feel the most comfortable?” Ami continued. “It doesn’t have to be a Christmas song.”
“Hmm…” Mako thought. “I think I’d feel more comfortable if I didn’t have to sing one an old-fashioned Christmas carol.”
“Something silly?” Ami asked.
“Yeah, maybe.”
“How about this…”
As Minako finally finished, she shouted “Thank you Juban!” and threw the microphone on the floor.
“Minako don’t actually throw it on the floor you’re gonna break it!” Rei ordered.
Minako snorted “Girl please I’m famous, I can do what I want.”
“O-kay, moving along,” Naru announced, “I think the one person who hasn’t sung for us is Mako-chan.”
“YAY MAKO-CHAN!” Usagi practically screamed as Mako picked up the microphone.
“Um, hi, everyone,” Mako started.
“TAKE IT OFF BABY!” Minako shrieked.
“FOR THE LOVE OF GOD YOU ARE NOT DRUNK, STOP ACTING LIKE IT!” Rei shrieked back.
While Rei and Minako bickered, Mako continued on with “I admit I was a bit nervous about singing tonight. I’m sort of weird when it comes to Christmas music and everything, but a good friend of mine made a suggestion to help me relax. If you don’t mind, I’m going to tweak the lyrics to this next song.”
Twangy country music started to play on the karaoke machine.
“Oh Rei-chan got run over by a reindeer-“
“WHAT?!” Rei screamed in horror.
“WHAT?!” Minako screamed in delight.
“When did a reindeer run over Rei-chan?” Usagi wondered.
“I thought Mako-chan would feel comfortable if she sang a song about one of us,” Ami cheerfully answered.
“BUT WHY *THIS* SONG?!” Rei angrily demanded to know. “AND WHY ME?!”
“Oh because your name had the right amount of syllables so the song wouldn’t sound too different,” Ami casually replied.
“She’d been drinking too much eggnog-“ Mako continued.
“Mmhmm,” Minako nodded, “I always said Rei-chan couldn’t hold her liquor. And now it’s too late.”
“I AM NOT DEAD.”
“I can almost still hear her sweet voice,” Minako sobbed.

vi. For the warning signs I've completely ignored
“Amy mentioned you had a nightmare?”
Robby sat across from his counselor. Her name was Joan. She always wore her glasses on a chain around her neck and her hair was completely gray, but Robby didn’t think she was actually that old, maybe in her fifties or sixties.  He had never been to her office before; until now she had been coming out to the detention center to meet with him twice a month.
“It’s been a while since we last talked about them.  Why do you think you’re having nightmares again?”
The building was tucked back in a little industrial park, but the inside was nicer than he expected. Joan sat at her desk taking notes and there was a plush couch decorated with faux fur pillows and a chenille blanket for him. The table beside him had peppermints and a box of tissues on it. The walls were painted a soft purple and there were framed inspirational quotes hanging on the walls.
“It wasn’t a nightmare.”
Robby always felt like he had to be on his toes with Joan.  Court-ordered therapy didn’t have the same rules of confidentiality as regular therapy.  Joan had explained that in general she could keep the specifics of what they talked about in confidence, but she had to make reports about his progress in general.  And of course she had to report it if he threatened to hurt himself or anyone else, and now if he confessed to violating his probation.
“Oh?” Joan prompted.  She wasn’t looking at him, trying to appear non-judgmental.
“It was a--” Robby scrunched his face up uncomfortably.  “You know...”
“Ah,” Joan nodded, understanding.  “I can see why that might be a little embarrassing, but you know it’s completely normal.”
“I’m not embarrassed,” Robby snapped before he could stop himself.
He sighed in defeat.  Now there was no way she was going to let it drop.
“Okay,” Joan prompted, latching on to the sudden surge of emotion like a dog with a bone.  “What are you feeling?”
A few words came to Robby’s mind: disgusted, nauseated, repulsed.
“Guilty,” he said finally.  It seemed like the right thing to say; it showed remorse.  Maybe he could convince her he wasn’t a predator after all.
“Why guilty?” Joan asked softly.   “Talk me through it.”
“Because,” he said, fixing his eyes on a little golden statue of an elephant sitting on the bookshelf.  “It’s a girl at my school.  I shouldn’t be thinking about her like that.”
“You don’t think you should be attracted to girls your own age?” Joan said.
“I don’t even know her,” he admitted.
“You could get to know her,” Joan suggested.  “What’s stopping you?”
“She doesn’t want anything to do with me.”
Robby resisted the urge to cross his arms; who knew what she would read into a simple gesture.  He didn’t want her to think she had him on the defensive.
“Why do you say that?”  Joan said.  “I think you have a lot to offer: you’re funny, you’re kind, you’re attractive.  What’s the harm in asking her out? See what she says.”
Robby clenched his teeth so hard he felt his jaw pop.  “I’m no good.”
“Robby, I want you to look at me for a minute, okay?”  Joan said, wheeling her chair out from around her desk to get close to him.  “I can tell you don’t like the idea that you could do something to this girl that she wouldn’t want.  You didn’t do anything wrong.  You are a safe person.”
Robby nodded, but he couldn’t look her in the eye.
“I think you should introduce yourself,” Joan said.  “Do you think you can do that?  Maybe you’ll make a friend. Maybe once you get to know each other, you’ll find out she likes you, too.”
“And when she doesn’t?”  He grabbed a tissue from the box on the table and crumpled it up in his hands.
“You tell me,” Joan challenged.  “Let’s say you talk to her and she tells you to get lost.  What would you do?”
“I would leave her alone,” he said.
“Exactly,” Joan said.  “You wouldn’t call her names.  You wouldn’t hurt her.  You said it yourself; you’d walk away.  There’s no harm in asking.  The worst that could happen is she turns you down.   Maybe you’ll still think about her for a while, but probably you’ll meet someone else who interests you, and you’ll move on.  The world won’t end.”
-
Robby had admitted to Zack that he couldn’t come over with the rest of the team because he was grounded.  Grounded because he didn’t want to take the SAT, and maybe because he had called his foster mother a fucking bitch.  Zack had laughed; said that if he had said something like that to his mom they’d never find the body.  It was a joke, Robby told himself, just a joke, but something about it didn’t sit right with him.
So, after his counseling appointment, instead of going out, Amy sat Robby down at the desk in the living room and handed him an SAT prep book.
“Since your schedule has miraculously opened up this weekend you can get some practice in,” she instructed.
Robby couldn’t even bring himself to be angry, there was no point in complaining. He just sat there and spent the next three hours trying to decide if ‘furtive’ was more like ‘surreptitiously’ or more like ‘calculating.’  He was just getting ready to face the word problems when Amy decided to show him mercy.
“Alright, that’s enough, time for dinner,” she said, wiping her hands on a kitchen towel before she reached over and closed the book in his hands.
Robby rubbed his eyes.  “Can I just go to bed?  I’m not hungry.”
“You have to eat something,” Amy insisted.
“Please,” he said.  “I’m really tired.”
Amy looked concerned.  “You think you’re coming down with something?”
“No,” he said.  “I just need to sleep.”
“Okay,” she agreed finally.
Robby slipped down the hall before she could change her mind.  He changed into an over-sized t-shirt and shorts and got into bed.  He pulled the covers up and closed his eyes.  He felt tired down to his bones, but he couldn’t sleep.
Amy was trying to keep her voice down, but the walls were thin and he could hear her conferring with Jordana as they did the dishes.
“I’m worried about how tired he is all the time.  Do you think that’s normal?”
“He’s probably depressed,” Jordana said matter-of-fact.  “You could have let him see his friends.”
“Don’t you start,” Amy snapped.  “I feel bad as it is.”
Robby turned over and pressed his pillow over his head.  He wondered at how he could be so tired and still not fall asleep.  He turned back over and tucked the pillow back under his head.  He kicked his covers off then pulled them back up.
After a while, Amy came in to check on him.  He turned back over onto his side as she took a seat on the end of his bed.  She brushed the hair away from his face and stuck an electronic thermometer in his ear.  She didn’t say anything, but she didn’t get up either.
After a minute Robby opened one eye to steal a glance back at her, but she wasn’t even looking at him, she was just sitting there with her eyes closed and her hands clasped under her chin.  When she finally got up, he felt her hand hovering over his shoulder, but then she pulled back.
Maybe Amy did feel bad for grounding him and making him study for the SAT instead of going out.  So what if she did?  If there was one thing he had learned from Joan it was that other people’s feelings were their business.
After church the next morning, Amy shepherded them all into Walmart for groceries.  Hector was acting up so she buckled him into the cart and gave Robby and Jordana each part of her list to hunt down.  Robby tried to ignore it, but even in the crowded store people were giving them strange looks.  They didn’t match.
Robby found Amy and Hector in the freezer section and dropped the bag of rice and cans of black beans and tomatoes into the cart.
“Why don’t we get a pizza for dinner tonight,” Amy said, as though the thought had just occurred to her.
“Yeah!”  Hector pumped his little fists in celebration.
“We can watch a movie,” she added.  “Some family time would be good for us.”
“Moana!”  Hector chanted excitedly.  “Robby, do you know Moana?”
“I thought I wasn’t allowed to watch tv,” Robby said.
Amy pursed her lips as though she was considering his words carefully.  “But if I make you watch Moana with us, wouldn’t it still be part of your punishment?”
Robby shrugged.  Amy chuckled, but he didn’t think it was very funny.
“I won’t make you,” she said.  “But if you want to you should.  You worked hard, you earned it.”
If Amy thought letting him eat pizza and watch a cartoon was going to make him feel better about being her little pity project she was mistaken, but if it would get her off his back he could play the good orphan and let her have the win.
-
At dinner time, Robby took a seat on the floor by the coffee table and Hector quickly tucked himself close to Robby’s side.  Robby felt a sudden wave of ease and warmth wash over him as Hector looked up at him for approval before climbing onto his lap.  Whatever Robby had done in his life, this kid looked up to him, and trusted him.  Robby knew he had a responsibility not to let him down.
“Hector!  No bueno!  Don’t climb on Robby like that,” Amy called, coming down the stairs with the pizza box in hand.
“He’s fine,” Robby said.  “I don’t mind.”
“Okay, make sure you tell him no if it’s too much,” Amy said.
Amy set the pizza down and dished out slices of pepperoni while Jordana got the movie started.  Robby was still surprised that Amy was actually going to let them eat in front of the tv.  For the first time, he was reminded of being home with his mom, the few precious times in his life when he really felt secure and safe and loved.
“You going to eat that?”  Jordana asked, reaching over his shoulder to steal the leftover crust off his plate.
“No, I don’t like the crust,” Robby said.
“The crust is the best part,” Jordana said.  “It’s basically a breadstick.”
“I don’t like crust either,” Hector added, pushing his paper plate away dramatically.
“Is that so?”  Jordana teased, lifting a piece of crust from Hector’s plate and holding it in front of his face.  Hector considered it for a moment.
“I changed my mind,” he said, snatching the crust back from her and stuffing it in his mouth.
“Yeah, I thought so,” Jordana laughed.
Amy took their empty plates to the trash while the movie played.  She came back down the stairs with an extra pillow that she slipped behind Robby’s back so he could sit more comfortably against the couch with Hector still curled up in his lap.
Amy sat back on the couch with a blanket draped across her lap, but when Hector nodded off sometime between “You’re Welcome” and “Shiny” she draped the blanket over the two of them without comment.
This sort of family time, if family is what he could call it, felt different from anything Robby had before.  It wasn’t like being with his mom, when words liked ‘grounded’ weren’t even part of her vocabulary.  And it wasn’t like it was with the LaRusso’s either, where--as nice as it was--there were times even Robby had to admit he felt more like the family pet than a teenager still trying to figure out who he was and where he belonged.
As the credits rolled Jordana gave Amy a brief kiss goodnight and retired to her bedroom.
“Come on, buddy,” Amy said, rubbing Hector’s back until he started sitting up sleepily.  “Movie’s over.  Time for bed.”
Hector whined, resisting Amy’s attempts to get him on his feet.
“I can take him up,” Robby offered, shifting Hector’s weight in his arms so he could get to his feet and carry him up the stairs.
“Careful on the stairs,” Amy warned, following close behind him.
“Su corazón,” Hector murmured, close to Robby’s ear, his arms draped over Robby’s shoulders and his legs wrapped tightly around Robby’s waist.  “Ella no es mala.”
Robby took Hector to his room and put him into bed, pulling the covers up over him.
“What’s that?” Robby asked, but Hector was out like a light the moment his head hit the pillow.
Robby returned to the kitchen where Amy was assembling sandwiches and bags of chips and celery for lunches for the coming week.
“I think he’s out,” Robby said.  “You need anything else?”
“Thank you, Robby,” Amy said, offering him a warm smile.  “You’re really good with him.  You know that?  He really appreciates all of the extra attention.”
Robby shrugged, but he could feel the blood rising in his cheeks.
“Maybe you can invite your friends over some time?” she said.  “I could take you to the movies or to play pinball at Frijoles.”
While he had grown accustomed to a complete lack of privacy he still didn’t appreciate being quite scrutinized. He certainly didn’t like being told where he could go and who he could see.  But he didn’t mind being part of a family.  Looking after Hector made him feel good.  He appreciated Jordana’s straight talk and honesty.  Even with Amy, at least he always knew where he stood.  It wasn’t like with his dad, always running hot or cold with no in-between.  Even the way Mr. LaRusso had turned on him had left him reeling, even though deep down he knew he shouldn’t have been surprised.
Amy was different, maybe it was because she was legally responsible for him, but she was steady, constant.  There was no “this was a mistake” he was just “part of the family.” Even if that meant taking the bitter with the sweet.
“I know we haven’t quite figured each other out yet, but you are a wonderful young man,” Amy said.  “I hope you believe that, or at least believe that I believe it.”
In the end, Robby figured Jordana was right.  It wasn’t all bad.
Robby couldn’t believe he was actually going to take Joan’s advice.  On dating of all things.  But Monday after school he wandered back across campus to the art wing, half hoping he would see the girl with the pottery wheel again half hoping he wouldn’t.  The truth was, what he really wanted was the chance to get her out of his system.   If he could introduce himself, he would know right away that she wasn’t interested, and maybe then he could get her out of his head.
He stuck his head into one of the classrooms, but there was no one at the pottery wheel.  He turned to leave, but then out of the corner of his eye he caught a glimpse of platinum blonde hair.
It was the same girl, straddling one of the drawing horses on the far side of the room.  She was wearing a pale green babydoll dress and fishnet tights with her Docs.
Robby took a breath and headed toward her.  She had earbuds in, so he came around to her side and waved, trying not to surprise her.  She looked up at him and took out one of her earbuds.
“Hi,” Robby said.
She was working with a charcoal pencil that stained her fingers black.  He thought it might be a self portrait, but the proportions were all stretched out and weird.  Not like Picasso; it was better.
“That’s awesome,” he said, nodding to her drawing.
“Thanks,” she said.  Her voice was deeper than he thought it would be, considering how small she was. It had a raspy sort of quality that he found really sexy.
“I’m Robby,” he said.
“Haley,” she said, the corner of her purple-stained lips appeared to twitch upward.  Maybe she was going to smile, or maybe she was just humoring him until he got the hint and beat it.
Robby cleared his throat.  It was now or never.
“I really like your style and your art and you seem like a cool person and I’d like to get to know you,” he took a breath.  “If you want.”
“Okay,” Haley gave a small laugh and Robby thought for sure she was about to tell him to pound sand.  “You have third period lunch, right?”
“Yeah,” Robby said.  Had she seen him at lunch?  Had she remembered him?
“You always ask for a hall pass,” she said.   He felt his heart leap into his throat.  “Maybe tomorrow we can sit together?”
Robby nodded, “That would be awesome.”
He remembered the earbud dangling from one ear.
“What are you listening to?”
“Do you know War on Women?” she asked.  Robby shook his head.
Haley waved him closer and took her spare earbud and pressed it to his ear.  The music was loud--electric guitar riff, strong bass, snare drums and cymbals, female vocals, scream-singing.
“It’s riot grrrl,” he said, nodding along with a spark of recognition.  Haley was smiling.  They were so close.  “I like it.”
“You do?” she asked.
“Yeah,” he said, returning the earbud to her.  “I do.  What other bands are you into?”
“What’s your Insta?” she asked, holding up her phone.  “I’ll send you a playlist.”
“Uh, I can’t really use social media,” he said.  “I don’t have a smartphone.”
Again, technically true.  He didn’t need to mention that he had to delete his profiles because Miguel’s friends from Cobra Kai kept sending him death threats.
That’s a first,” she said. She opened the contacts on her phone and handed it to him.  “Put in your info.  We can talk on the phone.  Retro.”
Robby laughed, plugging in his number and email.  He took his own phone out of his pocket to find that he already had text messages waiting for him.
“Sorry, I gotta run,” he said.  “I’ll see you tomorrow?”
“See you tomorrow, Robby,” she said.
Amy knew something was up the moment he got in the car.  His heart was pounding.  He couldn’t stop smiling.
“Did you have a good day?” she asked.  Robby nodded; he didn’t trust himself to say anything.
“Hold on, you’ve got something on your face,” she said, reaching into the console for a napkin.  “Here.”
Robby pulled down the visor and looked in the rear-view mirror.  There was a black smudge at the corner of his jaw, under his ears.  He took the napkin from Amy and wiped the spot from his face, folded the napkin, and tucked it into the front pocket of his backpack.

Arthurian fiction recommendations
Prompted by a conversation the other day!  I wanted to reblog my old post about this with additions, but tumblr isn’t letting me for some reason.  Oh well.
Favorites
The Squire’s Tales series by Gerald Morris.  The rise and fall of Camelot as seen though the eyes of Sir Gawain and his otherworldly squire Terrance.  Funny and sad, beautiful and heartbreaking.  They do take a while to get really going, though, so start at the beginning if you want to follow Terrance and his character arcs or skip straight to The Ballad of Sir Dinadan or The Princess the Crone and the Dung Cart Knight if you just want to read the best series entries.
Knights of the Round Table series by Gwen Rowley.  This sadly short series consists of romance novels about Lancelot, Gawain and Geraint, and they are perfect.  (Well, except the Geraint one, because he’s a dillweed and there’s only so much Rowley can do to un-dillweed him.)  The stories of Gawain and Ragnelle and Lancelot and Elaine (an amalgamation of his various Elaines) are great spins on the mythology, and I think Rowley singlehandedly turned around my dislike of Lancelot!  Her fairies are so creepy, too!
Idylls of the Queen by Phyllis Ann Karr.  It’s a murder mystery with Kay as the detective (he even gets to do a Poirot summation!)  When Queen Guinevere is framed for murder, Kay and Mordred have to find the real killer- and to unravel the older mystery of Morgause’s death.  Of books based directly on Malory, this is my favorite.  The characterization of Kay, Mordred, Gawain and Guinevere all just feel so spot-on, and Kay is an amazing narrator.
Arthur Dies at the End by Jeffrey Wikstrom.  If you want to read Malory but also kind of don’t want to read Malory, read these summations.  I had to keep stopping and reading portions aloud to my husband and roommate, I just had to share it.
The Once and Future King by T.H. White.  I didn’t love this as much as I was expecting to- the musical handles the love stories so much better- but it is fundamental in creating my vision of Arthur and who he is.  I think the first volume is my favorite, as young Arthur (”Wart”) has childhood adventures that teach him morality and political theory.
The Winter Prince by Elizabeth E. Wein.  This is the best sympathetic Mordred I’ve ever read, and it literally made me cry.  He’s trying to figure out who he is, between the influences of a good but distant father and a mother who has tried to destroy him body and soul.  And oh god, the ending!
Here Lies Arthur by Philip Reeve.  This is not a happy story, and it’s not one that glorifies King Arthur at all, but it does present a reasonably plausible account of how some of the stories could have gotten started.  Our heroine is something of an apprentice con-artist to Myrdin the Bard as he tries to promote a young warlord who he believes will drive back the Saxons...at any cost.
Interesting
The Kingmaking by Helen Hollick.  This is an Arthurian bodice ripper that doesn’t want to admit it’s a bodice ripper.  But it totally is.  Arthur is a womanizing rogue and Guinevere is his fiesty true love, and if you can stomach cliches and often unlikeable characters it’s fun.  I didn’t like it enough to read the rest of the trilogy, but I’m glad I read it.
I am Morgan le Fay by Nancy Springer.  I loved this book as a child, and on rereading it was still pretty good, albeit not as good as I remembered.  Morgan is an angry teenage antiheroine, and the book is about charting her path to supervillainy.
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court by Mark Twain.  I’m putting this here rather than in favorites because I can never bring myself to read the ending.  But the fact that I can’t bear to do that is because I get so invested in the first part, with a moral but very much of-his-time Arthur, Morgan le Fay as Scarlett O’Hara without the glamor, and a bullheaded narrator sometimes ruining everything and sometimes being the only one who sees how wrong feudalism is.  But I can’t read the ending.
Child of the Northern Springs by Persia Wooley.  I have to read the rest of the Guinevere trilogy at some point.  This is a lovely book but not much happens in it if you’re looking for Arthurian stuff, probably because it’s the start of a bigger story.
Stuff on my to-read list (give me more stuff to read, please!)
Merlin series by Mary Stewart
Sword at Sunset by Rosemary Sutcliffe
Exiled from Camelot by Cherith Baldry
The High Kings by Joy Chant
The King’s Peace by Jo Walton
The Winter King by Bernard Cornwell
The Forgotten Sister by Kieran Higgins
Enthroned by K.M. Shea
Once and Future by Amy Rose Capetta
Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley (maybe?)
