The Shield put FX on the map. Mad Men put AMC on the map. House of Cards put Netflix on the map. Writers did that. Not some CEO.
Know what you get when you put CEOs in creative lanes? You get Quibi.

not to be that guy but i’m rewatching mad men for the first time in like 10 years and i remember why i used to think tv was good lol. cuz it really was. i remember why i was involved in fan spaces bc it was actually a tv show that was SO GOOD that you had to talk abt it w another human being asap like immediately following each episode. i have not been able to understand why anyone is interested in becoming a like. named devoted fan of Media since i was 17 and i thought it was just that like ok yeah i was 17 then and not being 17 anymore just explained it but like i fully geek out at 29 over this show again bc it’s just. incredibly well made. i’m unwaveringly certain i’ve never seen a show do anything better than this one
like not to boomer out but if they tried to make mad men today it would never get off the ground bc there are scenes longer than 3 seconds and scenes that have no bearing on any part of the plot and serve no real purpose except to be a natural loose end in someone’s life that no one—least of all the audience—will ever get closure on. it was a show that trusted the audience and explained as little as possible. watching it this time around i feel like. actual grief for this whole medium bc we will never get this level of it back atp will we
