RWRB rambles: promo photoshoots

I'm really curious about how the in-character photoshoots were done

You have this on which honestly could both be Alex and Henry or just Taylor and Nick

Then there's this one (that's cute but a little weird?) that sort of can be mostly Taylor and Nick holding hands and running, which, Q: were they legitimately running or just jumping in the air?

There's this one that's pretty much a screenshot or an alternative angle shot of the scene in the movie

There's this one, also could be just Taylor and Nick holding hands or firstprince

But then there's these two that's not directly from the movie, and fully in character

There's this one (that made me fully scream for ten minutes when it first came out)

I... How did they shoot this? It looks really edited so idk if it's actually shot on location. Also it looks like a snapshot of a continuous movement, so did Taylor just repeatively shove Nick into a wall? Also... Like... Who were they? This looks really speficially in character, were they actually in character and improvising to make it a scene? Or they just did the physical movement and they were cracking jokes between them to make each other laugh? (either way works and is adorable, I'm just curious as to which one is it)

There's also this one (I straight up died when this one came out)

They don't actually have a scene in the movie that's this combination of their costumes so I think this is speficially shot as a promo shot (which also makes me wonder if there's more from this setting) again wondering if this is edited or on location. This is a straight up pose so the movement isn't an issue, but again this looks so, so firstprince, that again I'm wondering how did this photoshot go. Were the boys in character or making stupid inside jokes that somehow translated into the sweetest, "I'm in love with him" smiles?

poll for my beloved followers

i've been on this site since 2012 (with an extended vacation from like...2017-2022, but i still popped in occasionally during that time) & i haven't ever really changed much about my tumblr habits. they are as such:

i use likes primarily as bookmarks & secondarily as communication. i'll put a like on something to tell the person who posted or reblogged it that i appreciated it (or sympathized with it, or whatever), but mostly i like things to save them, either because i want to look at them longer/again or because i want to reblog them.

i go into my likes every couple of days & reblog everything i saved "to reblog later" all at once until i get tired of it or hit the end of my collection.

rinse & repeat. i sometimes reblog things immediately upon seeing them but mostly i put them in my like stash so i can focus on them later, because "thinking about & tagging things" is a different headspace than "scrolling my dash" i guess???

i have never used the queue. i am a spree-reblogger & a "post literally whenever" blogger. my question is,

okay so one problem i'm running into with my rottmnt weed oneshots is that i don't know whether i'm gonna want to mark them as "teen and up" or "mature". i'm nowhere near ready to post, but my decision is going to influence how i go about writing my drafts.

the only really objectionable thing is the underage pot smoking, and i've mentioned before how i started using weed when i was 14, so i overall think weed-related oneshots are fine for teens, but if kids as young as 13 or 14 might be reading this then i personally just feel like i should clarify within the text itself important info like "only smoke with people you trust" and "you can always say no if you don't want to participate and real friends will respect that" and "don't do anything dangerous while you're high"

whereas if this is gonna be marked as "mature" then i won't bother with any of that shit because adults should already know this.

ig my problem is that my ideal audience for this would be 16+, but since that isn't really an option on ao3, next best idea is either 13+ or 18+ and adjust my writing to either audience accordingly

I am equal parts impressed and disappointed with how Tui used Moonwatcher’s mind reading powers as a narrative tool in Moon Rising (MR).

While MR is technically third person limited, like all WOF books, the mind reading allows it at times to be third person omniscient. This is really useful since it allows the reader to get to know the new cast of characters a lot faster. Instead of waiting for their POV book, we get a quick glimpse at these side characters’ inner thoughts and it’s even more interesting seeing them from the outside. MR did a good job at establishing that peoples’ thoughts are not straightforward and how conflicting they are and how they can contradict themselves and a persons’ actions. It would have added complexity and depth to the characters…. Except that Tui kind of messed it up

Moonwatcher was constantly interpreting these thoughts and labelling the characters as kind and good when the truth is more complicated than that. And the readers are supposed to take Moon’s perspective as truth instead of any commentary made of Moon’s biases.

I think the best example is with Winter. Now, don’t get it twisted I’m a big Winter simp, but in that climatic scene in MR when Moon tells Winter he is honorable and brave and one of the truest dragons in Pyrrhia and it’s like… huh? Where did that come from? I’ve seen the same thoughts as Moon but so far Winter has just been this brooding guy with some serious issues. In Winter Turning we see these characteristics more, but even then Moon is telling Winter (and the readers) his personality.

Instead of using mind reading as an opportunity to show the complexity of characters, Tui does the opposite and removes and possibility of moral greyness but at the same time shows some characters (Qibli) as being even less morally grey than others (Winter) despite everyone making stupid decisions but one character is just funnier than the other.

I like picking apart these narrative techniques and I think it was an interesting concept Tui came up with but the execution was lacking, especially when you put all this effort into showing how complex people are but then putting good/bad labels on them in the next breath.

i could totally be wrong with the information i’m going off of for their ages, but it still seemed a little significant to me. (dru is supposed to be 16/17, and jaime is supposed to be 19/20 according to cassie so this would only really make it 18/19 which isn’t really any better)

The draining spell may not have killed everyone but like. Remember those scouts in the airships. When everyone collapsed some airships must have crashed. And other accidents must have happened too. How many ppl were at a healers doing an important medical procedure when the healer collapsed? How many ppl were in the middle of traffic? How many ppl were like. Holding something flammable or something heavy in a precarious position or like. A baby. Belos didnt succeed with the genocide but he caused bodily harm to all of the boiling isles that day, probably killing a lot of ppl.
