okay so AS USUAL, india is complicated af, so i basically put all the more “traditional” music at the start and it gets progressively more modern and “fusion”-ish towards the end. god i thought this would be easier for me than sweden, but no this was worse. at least i had my friend helping so there’s more info. also disclaimer, i don’t know what rohan actually likes to listen to in his downtime aside from a couple of these so bear with me. the only reason why i have so many tracks is bc i have been accumulating these over the course of 2 years rip, i actually whittled them down so it wouldn’t be too crazy.

i. dheem ta dare || so this is a quintessential classical piece that every indian trained in classical dance or has witnessed it will know and enjoy. if you listen closely you might wonder what language the dude is singing. it’s not a language at all. see for western music you have ‘ do re mi fa so la ti do’. indian classical music have the exact same notes, but pronounced as ‘ sa re ga ma pa da ni sa’. the key difference here is that indians also have verbal representation of the beat, like the drum beats. it’s called a tala, and instructors use this to signal the strength and vigour to which a dancer will perform a given step, like a composer. so what the guy is singing is a mixture of the musical notes and the beat verbals.

this piece is meant to herald newcomers to a kingdom or a space or at the start of the show. it is meant to be energetic, but also elegant and majestic. it’s also the kind of thing performed when foreigners or potential in-laws arrive to a compound for the first time. there is a gift-exchanging ceremony, and a display of everything that palace/compound has to offer.

ii. albela sajan || this is also an old classic, reimagined for a somewhat recent movie, without making it too modern because the music director wanted to retain the tradition and the old rajasthani elements in it.

these lyrics basically welcome a spouse or a loved one home, exalted with pomp and celebration. it must be noted that there are both male and female voices in the chorus because rajput men were not the only ones who travelled in the old days.

iii. baawre || i couldn’t find a better quality vid of this, but watch it if you wanna see hrithik dance :P. so this is also distinctly rajasthani. the whole thing was composed and filmed to depict an amplified vibe of a typical rajasthani carnival, its colours, costumes and rajasthan’s emphasis on circles. my favourite part comes in at 2:45, the melody gets stuck in my head.

iv. tu hai || this is a love song. ignore the weird tribal dancing it has nothing to do with the song because the music is modern, but used for like... a period film? if you do watch the video, rohan’s mom makes an appearance throughout, (esp @ 1:06). also rohan actually likes this song... probably. he dedicates it to his plants.

the most repeated verse (the first one) translates to:

you are, my entire world me and my entire love are only for you you are, like each and every colour in the world like a melody in the everlasting breeze it’s only you, only you

but i feel like it’s significant to rohan because of the last verse

Even after coming close, why are you still silent? Tell me this at least, who are you to me? My eyes are speaking even though I'm silent Listen with your eyes and you'll know who I am

v. chale chalo || if i were a filmmaker and i had to shoot the first impression of rohan’s family + rajput extended family. with their staunch grace, their might. their determination. their extremely well-built demeanours, their inner strength. their family culture, the forebodingness of it all (in a good way), this would be it. it starts out so hard-fisted, and then the softer instruments come out in between, and you see the art in that, before rolling into the main theme again. it pushes on. there is hopefulness too (04:35), the last one and a half minutes emphasises the whole rajasthani thing about circles again bc that’s the part they circle the lead dancers while spinning. it is a SIGHT to behold.

vi. taal se taal (western) || this is a western fusion mix with a folk song. this is basically here because rohan actually listens to it. his sister performed a classical fusion dance to this once when they opened one of their palaces in udaipur for the people to watch. it was electric. his jaw dropped. people kneeled when she was done. this is a custom. if it was just an ok performance they would have just clapped.

there is only 1 verse repeated which is translated:

My heart is restless My eyes are looking at the path My heart is restless My eyes are looking at the path My life is a chaos There is no tune nor rhythm Please come my beloved, come, come, come Harmonise your rhythm with my rhythm vii. dhakka laga bukka || might sound like soldiery rajput music, but it’s not, it’s not rajasthani, just a general indian modern song. it’s about anarchy even though the lyrics don’t explicitly state it. it’s about youth taking a terrible situation into their own hands instead of waiting for solutions to happen. of fighting a rigged, corrupt system. it’s about rohan and his crew and what they do. it’s about helping people, not a country. rohan listens to this when he’s trying to focus on something or when he’s working out.

viii. dil se re || if from the vibe alone you can guess what this is about you get a prize. an actual prize. as in i will make you something. FIRST PERSON TO GET IT RIGHT. ANY TAKERS? ( and to the person who already knows, you don’t count. )

ix. gallan goodiyaan || ok i put this here for a bunch of reasons. this is an accurate representation of MODERN indian celebrations, like not everything is traditional and archaic. they do have parties on giant yachts, and they do have loads of fun and there are other ethnicities there too. and this is genuinely how they would dance to celebrate at an engagement party or post traditional wedding ceremony reception party or whatever. like this is not exaggerated, indian parties are wild af, i’ve been to one of these, it was for a wedding... it’s... insane. and i died.

my favourite part about this whole video is that it was filmed with a SINGLE camera in a SINGLE take. imagine how much every single actor and extra rehearsed to get it right so the cheering at the end was not acting, it was real.

essay preparation, Conservative Judaism: Our Ancestors To Our Descendants by Elliot M. Dorff

alright buds gonna go thru this book, theres chapters and then like essay questions, so im here reading the chapters then answering the essay questions. im fucken ignorant as shit so this is all my stupid opinions that im still developing and it might change as i learn more idk. enjoy, lots of surprise-zionism in here skip if thats not ur thing

I. yes services start early morning we do prelims then shacharit torah & musaf then kiddush congregants range in ages from young to elderly (predominantly older tho) and in observance from super frum (ok like 5 of us lol) to basically secular & very pluralistic no one cares, very close-knit, "maritime personality disorder" very evident, love it

II. never studied at yeshiva or went to hebrew school, looking into doing so (u know when), actually the reason i picked up this book, im inherently drawn to like childrens resources (this is a highschool level book but u get it) bc as an adult i missed out on jewish child education, so im drawn to childrens resources to "learn from the start" so to speak

III. parents are gentiles, no jewish identity really, grandma resolutely denied being a jew though got 'mistaken' for one almost daily due to last name and appearance, 'corrected' people constantly, got bullied for it (i say grandma but its still patrilineal dont @ me), she didnt know anything about judaism and was frequently antisemitic and firmly catholic

IV. conservative judaism means that halachic rules are binding but that they should and must be interpreted via the lens of the society in which we live, in order to reduce suffering and increase overall observance (e.g. women, lgbt+, accessibility), conservative judaism also means an affordance of leniency in individualistic expressions of obligatory mitzvot

V. emancipation occurred from 1776-1880, within western europe (france holland england) during the rise of nationalism jews were considered naturalized citizens of their respective countries & not foreign outliers, allowed to serve in army etc but had negative impact bc jews at the time began to lose their jewish identity whilst adopting goyische practices (ref. assimilation)

VI. absolutely and i fully intend on making aliyah, learning and speaking hebrew is nourishing for my soul, its an internal secret of mine that “magneto was right” u know, “does mainstreaming work?” and like, i say this not bc i believe jews should be separate (or even that jews should immigrate to israel) but in the interest of jewish protection and continuation, is mainstreaming going to contribute to jewish protection and continuation? mainstreaming needs to include existence. u cant mainstream two groups if one group is only accepted when they dont exist as themselves. “jews and gentiles can exist together! but u better show up to work on yom kippur.” jews deserve self-determination and to have the opportunity to live in their homeland which is the only safe place on earth for jews to publicly and fully express their judaism, to go to a school where they can safely and publicly express their judaism, to go to a synagogue where they can safely and publicly express their judaism, to go to a job where they can safely and publicly express their judaism. u tell me where that is, is it where u live? thats the downfall of mainstreaming, bc sure jews can assimilate but what u see is that ppl who arent jews will only interact with them if they renounce their judaism. sure u want to say jews and goyim living side by side respecting one anothers practices is the ideal, absolutely im "pro mainstreaming" for those ideals, but be practical! that shit aint never gonna happen, dont sacrifice yourself and ur family and ur friends for an academic concept that has never manifested itself in reality

VII. the advent of secularism! secularism is super appealing. movies! tv! books! music. mixed dancing as it were. all the things considered heretical bc they could curse g-d, but appealing on a neurological level. who doesnt wanna sit down and binge drop dead diva for 9 hours, its not me buds. so ofc many orthodox peeps would be drawn to it, but in the interest of maintaining their practices and beliefs, new movements would necessarily sprout up in response

VIII. assimilation occurred bc the advent of secularism drew alot of observant jews away from their practices and subsequently their identities, it was more appealing to be a citizen (a "german" not a "jew") bc it afforded them rights and privileges and goys would interact w them on an equal level, as long as they didnt express being jewish too much, or used their jewishness in a self-deprecating kind of way (alot of jewish comics got famous like this, ppl love listening to jews self-deprecate and in a downward shifting economy u gotta get it where u can get it)

IX. the differences between halacha in orthodox judaism and reform judaism? oh boy well today, because reform judaism looked totally different in the 1800s guys (most american jews were reform, which is why american jewish culture was so radically separate from european jewish culture and far more secular), but at the core orthodoxy believes halacha as it was written and interpreted (and as it continues to be interpreted and debated) is binding, no ifs ands or buts. u can find reasons why things can and cant be done but its always within the established halacha. reform judaism doesnt consider halacha binding but essentially “refers” to it as they develop their individual practices (”im a woman but im not gonna cover my hair if i get married bc blah blah blah” might be a reform opinion, its deciding not to follow the law, but its still referencing the law) and is exponentially more concerned with the idea of jewish peoplehood, identity, nationality, history, outside the world of torah. (yes? no? this is all shit i was spoonfed by 1 guy so like?)

X. im writing a fucken essay on this man. need to chill out and condense. get my opinions in order. orthodoxy is appealing bc most ppl will believe the same shit u do and put the same weight on it, conservatism is more pluralistic/individualistic, definitely more secular, even tho i wholeheartedly agree with this & practice it in my life, the art of letting people do their own shit without judging them, the art of welcoming ppl into ur space despite their diverging belief systems, just: sometimes u can feel kind of silly when u know ppl probably dont take as literal interpretations as u do. strengths of reform individualism, pluralism, activism, diversity, influx of new opinions/thoughts, ppl talk to me about this i know very little about reform judaism dont get mad at me pls. weaknesses uhhhhhh lol am i gonna go there on tumblr.com 2day... weaknesses i guess would be that its not taken as seriously by outsiders? is that acceptable/right?

1) Who is your favorite Star Wars character of the new trilogy (excluding Rey and Kylo)? If it’s gotta be a new character, then MY SON FINNNNN. (The sheer bliss on his and Rey’s faces when they hugged again. My heart.)

2) If you had a lightsaber, what color would you want it to be? I’m a basic bitch and just want that cool Skywalker blue. (I should clarify that I don’t know what the different colors are actually associated with and am rolling purely on aesthetics. I’m a solid Neutral Good human and a lover not a fighter, if that helps.)

3) What is/are your favorite quote(s) from a Star Wars movie? "I am a Jedi, like my father before me” gives me the CHILLS and the FEELS every time. “There aren’t enough scoundrels in your life” also always gets me for different reasons, haha. “Don’t be afraid. I feel it too.” And Finn’s indignant squawking about Jakku. And Kylo saying “Please” in that broken, small voice. God.

4) Do you think Kylo/Ben will survive Episode IX? I want him to, and I think the narrative will be much stronger if he lives, so I sure damn hope so. I don’t think they’re going the redemption-through-death arc as of now but I guess we’ll see haaaaaaaaaaa.

5) What are your top 3 favorite Star Wars films? It’s been enough years since I rewatched the others to be able to really accurately decide agains the sequel trilogy, but The Last Jedi and The Empire Strikes Back are definitely included.

6) Which droid would you most like to own/ have as your sidekick on intergalactic adventures? I wanna say R2 but @galacticprideandprejudice made good points about BB-8 so now I’m conflicted, ahaha.

7) Which Jedi master would you most like to train under: Luke, Yoda, Qui-Gon or Obi-Wan? LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUKE. But like, alternate timeline Luke where things are happy and stable. I do not have Rey’s pluck to draw him out of his funk.

8) What is your favorite scene featuring Rey and Kylo? HAND. TOUCHING. IN. THE. HUT. See also: elevator. See also: throne room fight (she touched his thigh). See also: bridal carry, which started it all for me.

9) What order did you initially see the saga films in? All of the original trilogy, then all of the prequel trilogy. I’ve become a fan of the machete order since then (IV, V, II, III, VI - then followed by the sequel trilogy and standalone films as desired).

10) What is your ideal ending for Reylo in Episode IX? I want them both to live. I want Kylo to decide for himself to not Kill The Past, but actually move on and try to heal (whether he goes full Light or stays kind of gray, I don’t mind either). I would very much like them to touch one another in person (not over Force bond) in some intimate/sweet fashion (a forehead touch would be AMAZING) - I don’t expect a kiss and would probably scream in theater if it happened, but I hope they can come to a point of genuinely gentle and sweet mutual affection, even if just for a moment. We’ll see, ofc, but those are the general things I hope for! More specifically story-wise, I’m into the idea that they are very mutually in love but Ben decides he can’t stay, not now, not while the wounds of what he’s done are so fresh, and so he voluntarily goes off somewhere far away for a while - half self-imposed exile, half journey to find himself again - but promises Rey he’ll come back to her again :’) But I’ll be happy with pretty much anything they do as long as I feel like it does justice to the characters and is done well and doesn’t backpedal on all the progress these two have made.

Episode 1: “Hobbits, we gonna slay this all the way to Isengard.” -JG

I’m back and better than ever!

Heylo! Who loves a pre-game confessional oh we do! I cannot wait for this season to be honest. I am finishing a season as we speak being in the final 3 so the adrenaline rush and hype is so real. I am a not a super fan of LOTR but I do love and enjoy the the stories. I read the books when I was in second grade and the saw the movies for the first time in 7th grade. My goal is to be like Frodo in this game, make myself known when it's really important and needed, then disappear when I am not, why make a target on myself when I don't need to. Hopefully the power of the ring won't consume and something wild happens.... eeks here goes nothing, FOR MIDDLE EARTH!

Ahh fuck Johnny is in this game he's gonna betray me I know it fml I just wanna win an org how hard omfg

This is my first org in 5 months and honestly I forget how to play. I'm just gonna do whatever and I do how I do, but I'm not gonna be scared to yeet people out of here.

Part of my strategy is to try and be social to everyone in the beginning. I want to try and have a conversation with everyone on my tribe as soon as possible and try to gain a slight favor so people think I have something to contribute to them if we happen to lose the first immunity challenge and go to tribal

First confession of a new game is always a lot. I haven’t played since…March? Maybe even earlier than that. And if you know me, you know there’s been a lot of drama surrounding me since then, so I’m definitely nervous to be back in the saddle and playing again. Pre-merge queen. Basically, on my tribe, I feel…neutral to nervous. I have Dylan R, who is my ORG child, so I should be able to work with him fairly easily. I’ve also hosted Eric, which could be good if he weren’t friends with so many people who don’t like me. Same boat with Vi. I’m hoping I can kind of work both of them to my side, but it might not be possible and I may just have to rely on Dylan keeping me in the loop. There’s also a newbie, which is usually a good sign. Finally, we have Johnny. I FEEL like Johnny has an issue with me from something, but I’m not 100% sure. I love reaching a point in my life where I can’t remember who hates me and why, but, hey, that’s running and destroying the biggest ORG series since Mains for you. As for the other tribes……..yikes on a bike. Aside from Zach, JG, and Stephen (more of my sons), we’re fairly stacked with people who would cut my throat without a second thought. Drew has seen me play before and we had a, uh, messy relationship in that game. I’m certain Sammy still hates me from Lago and also from The Drama since he’s friends with the core few people who hate me. Nick I don’t know, but he has “skinny” in his bio as a positive which means we probably won’t get along, plus he came from tengaged which can be a yikes. Crow I hosted for like three seconds in Emathia, so maybe he’ll have mercy on me. Dennis I think hates me from the Athena stuff. Bodhi I think hates me, and I’m not wild about him either. Roxy I know hates me but I don’t have any idea why since we’ve never spoken. Probably just more Athena Stuff. Hopefully I make merge with JG. That’s going to be my big hope for this season. Well. Idol hunting is going to be my lifeblood. Wish me luck, unless you hate me like everyone else.

Small tribe, which means riskier tribals early on but its easier to get to know everyone. So far Roxy and.. dnn??? I like (I’ll check the cast reveal for what we should be calling dnn). JG and Sammy I know from other games, I feel I can trust JG a little, we’ll see. Sammy I don’t know I like to give people clean slates but almost every game we’ve been in he’s gone straight for me. Bodhi hasnt messaged me back yet :/

Hello ! Welcome to my first confession. Excited to exist. I haven’t met everyone in the tribe yet but I am playing with my old host so that’s funny. I don’t really have any interesting things to say so just. Hello. The first immunity challenge is one that I really didn’t do well in the first time I played so. Yikes. Whatever I’m still excited !!

Well hey! Got a clue on my very first idol hunt? But in a series so aggressively dominated by men, where the hell is "sisterhood" supposed to take me?

Honestly, I did not want to do the first challenge. I know I am good at it, but I didn't want to be the one responsible for losing for the tribe since its a hero challenge. I made up an excuse which is not a lie and is at the same time. Hopefully our tribe does well at the challenge!

This game so far is really stupid, I mean no talking during heats is fine but the fact that my tribe didn't offer any condolences or anything like "you tried" is rude and frankly, tragic.

You ever agree to face an Australian in an endurance challenge at midnight your time, 2pm his time? What a disaster for me

Yas!!! I love getting lucky and being on a winning tribe. First immunity lets go hobbits, we gonna slay this all the way to Isengard. So far I've mingled and stayed for tea with my hobbits and gotten to know them. Of course I'm excited to play with Stephen again, cool to finally meet Roxy and Bodhi. We shall see what will happen I'm anxiously, excitedly nervous. But let's go!

You know the most embarrassing part of losing that comp in 2 seconds? The fact that I almost called in sick to work bc I wanted to free my schedule for the day. Yeah that was a flop. If I get eliminated first that would be simultaneously hilarious and also very depressing. No one other than Eric and Jay have messaged me so I should probably like. Pop in and say hi

So uh...it’s kinda fuckin wild. We lost and don’t really have an easy vote because everyone’s active and ready to play the damn game. I’m fairly certain there’s a large majority though I don’t think anyone will be absolutely shocked about who goes home.

I'd like to start this seasons confessionals of with saying that I absolutely hate Bodhi. Since he took my Tom Bombadil and then told me, he had forgotten that he was cast for this season... LIKE COME ON ARE YOU SERIOUS, THATS MY AVATAR. After calming down I saw the tribe I was on. Bodhi (AJUSNKDIKWQJNE), Roxy, Sammy, Stephen and JG. I have played loads with Sammy and Roxy before. Stephen seems nice. Bodhi must die and JG is prolly the hardest person to talk to since I was in kindergarten. I mean. It should be that hard to give proper answers to your questions. MAYBE it was because he was busy playing the inferior BR game fortnite, but still come ON. I agree to play the challenge, but didn't need to actually do something in it, since Stephen and Sammy beasted it. The idolsearch first went SUCKY. because I went to bree ignored Aragorn, got durnk and got a 35 % DISADVANTAGE ON MY NEXT CHALLENGE (LIKE WHO THOUGHT OF THAT HIGH NUMBER) then at my next search I find out, that the other option I had, prolly would've given me an Idol... OH MAN PLEASE DONT LET IT BE GONE I WANT THAT.

You know I'm winning when my tribe wins immunity. Time to take the free time to make an alliance of my own. I have to choose who I want to trust for now.

okay so i haven’t made a confessional yet but I’m super excited to see some familiar faces in the game. I’ve played with Dennis before but I know that if I’m a threat to his game he will take me out so it’s a good person to stick with for now but idk if I can trust him in this game. JG is very friendly and chill but I’ve onkg played another game with him where he quit. He had a lot going on so I understood but I’m willing to work with him again if he’s willing. ROXY IS ON MY TRIBE AND SHE IS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE AND I KNOW SHE WILL NEVER VOTE ME OUT. SO I GOT HER AND IM EXCITED. Okay and who else? oh yes Stephen! Stephen is cool and I’m 100% down to work with him despite our past in orgs. I just don’t want him to think of me as an enemy. If we have to boot out someone I’d say bodhi would be the most obvious choice because he hasn’t been active...but bodhi is a fun player to play with I’m just hoping he becomes more active before our tribe decides to give him the boot. I see Crow in this game and he’s super nice and I’m so glad I’m playing with him and also Johnny is playing and I’m hoping he’s gonna want to work with me. Okay okay I’m done for now. Let the games begin.

CRAP i forgot to talk about immunity and idol search...okay sooooo i went heat 2 after Stephen won heat 1 and like i was expecting to be targeted bc if I won, my tribe would get immunity. However Dylan(I’m sorry if i umm spelled that wrong) forgot the period and Crow spoke out of turn or something and I won...I was shocked but glad that it didn’t last as long as the first heat. Oh and I searched for the idol and went to the bar or something and it turns out the item i was gonna get had been snatched before I had a chance....WE GOTTA THIEF IN HERE....I’m just trying to make it to merge so i need any advantage i can get.

Johnny just approached me for an alliance and I told him, "of course johnny! :)" But I am internally screaming like "nooooooo why meeee," because just before this game we were talking about how Johnny likes to betray everyone in orgs so now I'm like, please just let me win one org I got Ryan V casted in Bermuda you owe me.

The nice thing about not going to tribal council is that it really gives you the time to flex that social game and work on building up relationships, which is super important early in the game.

me doing this 4 hours before tribal is a mood but uhm ahem in conclusion, i've heard 8 names this round and let me breakdown how and why begin: i tell nick i think first boot should be someone who didn't compete, and then narrow it down to jayden or zach nick tells me he's been pushing for jayden and that drew is on board and is working on zach jayden comes to me saying he knows he's in trouble and asking me what to do, he reveals that runs ratted out nick about targeting him i tell nick runs ratted him out nick reveals to me that runs has been pushing me to everyone (confirmed by Drew, and later Jayden, as well) i confront rataways subtly and he insinuates that his loyalty is to me and that we're friends and my BS alarm goes flying off the charts rataways thinks he's sly but he's not end: im voting rataways and got confirmation from jayden and drew that they'd do the same....currently working on nick who has supposedly already told zach to vote runs as well if everybody minus rataways isn't a completely shady bitch, this should be an easy 5-1 with rataways thinking he somehow has votes on me and i'll probs get idoled out but w/e. i'm not going to lose my sanity trying to beg rataways not to vote me, idc. oh and i threw the immunity challenge cuz tribal seemed fun (and boi it is!)

Well I wasn’t the first person evicted so I consider this season an accomplishment. I’m trying to attach myself to Ford, since he’s completely new.

Alright hold on a second. 2nd day. 2nd conversation with JG. AND its like day & night. He seems pretty chill :). MAYBE HE WAS JUST BUSY WITH FORTNITE (what I as a gamer understand. I mean.. you gotta set priorities.. right?). Just wanted to clarify, so I don't come over as a dick at the end of the season. In case we end up being best friends *shrugs*
