#also that akechi knew that he was going to die
mollypollykinz · 4 months
Note
It just hit me, but Akechi is kind of being an even bigger hypocrite to Shinjiro than I thought. When the Thieves fought Maruki, Akechi knew he was probably going to die if they won, and pretty much planned to keep it to himself until Maruki outed him. This guy does not have any of the ground to stand on that he seems to think he has.
You're so right lol. Akechi is very good at making himself an exception to all of his own rules, which makes him a hypocrite in a lot of situations. It doesn't help that he's at the stage of his development where he's more able to acknowledge that "ken should've talked to me bc we're friends" and less able to acknowledge "I should've talked to Someone about literally any of my trauma".
He's also very stressed atm.

Royal Trio for that character asks?
ahh ty! this is literally perfect timing because I just finished the third semester on my third playthrough of p5r and really wanted to talk about these three <this is a lie. I stopped writing out the answer to this ask over a month ago but this ask IS still relevant bc I am now writing a royal trio-centric fic. so I'd still like to talk about them.
describe their canon relationship/dynamic
Sumi and Akira have a very strong dynamic, as Sumi is basically Akira's canonical love interest and one of his closest friends. And I needn't explain how Akira and Akechi have an extremely strong dynamic as well.
But the three of them don't really have that strong of a trio dynamic because the triangle breaks when we get to Akechi and Sumi's relationship with each other, which is a shame. Either Akechi or Sumi feel a bit left out because Sumi's in the dark about so much of Akechi's Deal and Akechi is so outwardly cold to Sumi. So they don't have much of a dynamic with each other.
your ideal/headcanon version of it? how does it differ from how it is in canon & why is this your favorite version? any other alternate versions of it you enjoy?
My ideal version of the royal trio has two main differences between it and the canon version. First, Akechi and Sumi never get the chance to bond in canon. I don't think that it's a flaw, necessarily, because there was no way to have them bond without breaking Akechi's character arc in the third sem. But it is a huge missed opportunity.
I really do think Akechi does secretly care for Sumi, but he doesn't want to show it because he's being Stupid in third sem about wanting to push everyone away. I think in any other timeline they could have been friends, and I think that he realizes their similarities and relates to her because of them. In the same way, if Sumi knew more about Akechi I think she would relate to him and want to be his friend too.
The second thing I'd change is make Sumi and Akira's relationship platonic. This isn't really a "change" since you can reject her, and Sumi having a crush on its own is perfectly fine. But they push them as a romantic pairing really really hard, much harder than anyone else, to the point where its pretty obvious she's supposed to be your canonical girlfriend. And I just don't like that, since them getting together kinda breaks Sumi's character arc of self discovery.
what do you like about their relationship, why is it interesting or enjoyable to you?
I love how Sumi and Akechi both complement Akira in opposite directions. But more than that, I'm obsessed with how Sumi and Akechi are thematic foils in pretty much every way. Others have written metas on this so I won't repeat it all here, but the sheer Potential of Akechi and Sumi's dynamic and the way their arcs parallel is so Interesting. Sumi and Akechi are such different people, but they are also so extremely similar, and its just. mmmm. good. makes brain go brrr.
I could go on and on about the ways Sumi and Akechi parallel one another, but one thing in particular that sticks out to me are their masks and the way each of them deal with their self hatred in opposite directions. Sumi buries her true personality and becomes her ideal self as Kasumi. Meanwhile Akechi does something similar with the Detective Prince persona, but by the third semester he's completely rejected that part of himself. Sumi learns to reconcile all parts of herself, while Akechi. doesn't. And Akira serves as Akechi's other half, the way that Kasumi served as Sumire's other half. But while Sumi saw Kasumi's natural talent, and how she outshone her in every way, she internalized that hatred to the point where she wished to die. But when Akechi saw how Akira was superior to him in every way, he externalized that hate and tried to kill Akira to prove that he was better. Sumi accidentally kills Kasumi because of her self hatred, and Akechi tries to kill Akira but fails because of his self hatred.
what about the individual characters involved? what does this relationship mean to them, what makes it unique among their relationships?
Akira - Sumi and Akechi are his closest friends, imo. Akira sees a lot of himself in both of them. They're the Fake As Hell Gang, each of them hiding behind various masks to conceal their true, inner self.
Sumi - Akira is the person who helps Sumi rediscover her true self and accept herself for who she truly is instead of continuing to hide behind her sister's identity. She looks up to his as a version of her ideal self, confident and self assured and fully realized. As for Akechi, I don't think Sumi has any idea what to make of him at all.
Akechi - I could go on for days about the complexities of Akechi's feelings about Akira, but in short, Akira is Akechi's only real friend in the world, and yet they were once bitter enemies. Akechi wishes it could stay that simple--rivals, and nothing more. But of course that's not true. As for Sumi, he sees a lot of himself in her--someone terrified that they aren't good enough, idolizing someone else as their better half. But he can't let himself get attached, so he keeps his distance and remains harsh on the surface no matter his sympathies.
favorite interaction they have in canon
"Just everyday Akechi." Obviously.
favorite interaction they have in your head/a situation you want to put them in
well. i mean, if you'll pardon the self promo, you can find out by reading the aforementioned fic where sumi saves goro in the engine room. hehe

@persona-ramblings
That Akira was in awe was an understatement. The man? just materialized behind the other boy ‘Robin Hood’ he never had seen anything like it…it looked like something ripped straight out of a comic book. It paid him no mind but the guards of this place were destroyed in seconds dissolving in black smoke. He didn’t have time to react when the last one came at him. It knocked him to the ground knocking off his glasses in the process. He scooted backwards reaching for something anything to defend himself with.
He found nothing. His school bag just had his books and some pencils and he could tell it would do nothing against this thing. He squeezed his eyes shut putting his hands up to half heartedly protect himself when he heard a voice.
‘Going to give up this easily? What about your justice?’ The voice was like his own but deeper more modulated.
Instead of answering he got to his feet wind whipping around him throwing the shadow away.
“No I’m not ready to give up not yet” he said.
‘Very well I have heeded your resolve’ the voice answered as a spike of pain went through Akira’s head. He held it crying out as the voice continued.
“Vow to me. I am thou, thou art I... Thou who art willing to perform all sacrilegious acts for thine own justice! Call upon my name, and release thy rage! Show the strength of thy will to ascertain all on thine own, though thou be chained to Hell itself!”
Something had covered his face something that he had to get off…now. He reached up and tugged. It didn’t come loose so he tugged again throwing the mask to the ground.
It turned into blue fire that surrounded him.
‘Call upon my name release thy rage’
“Come Arséne!”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Akechi watched the spectical from behind his own mask now. His arms crossed as he watched the shadow knock the boy to the ground. He couldn’t help his lips from turning upward slightly into a smile. He was just about to jump in with Robin until something happened. His crimson eyes staring at the figure the boy just released. His smile grew wider.
“So you are special after all” he mused to himself as he watched the red and black figure appear. The boys clothes also changed. All black. The complete counter to his own. He would have to keep an eye on this boy. He wasn’t going to let some random Persona user foil his plans.
After the last shadow had been defeated by the boy Akechi walked towards him, clapping his hands as he did so.
“You really are...” he started to say but stopped himself. No. He wasn’t going to give him too much information. Not yet.
“It seems you’ve awakened to your true self. We call it...a Persona.” he said as a matter of factly. He knew the other was going to have more questions, but everything in due time would be revealed.
“I do apoligize but it isn’t safe here for a new user. Although, it seems you could be a natural. If you venture here again...” Akechi said as he thought of his next words. He was going to use him to his advantage, so he hoped the other would heed his advice.
“Try not to die.” he said before walking past the other and vanished, leaving Mementos and back to the real world.
Once Akechi made it back to his apartment flat in Kichijoji he pulled out a chair and leaned back, his head relaxing all the way back so his hair was off his face. He thought about the boy and his Persona. He couldn’t help but feel a sting of disappointment. Up until that point Akechi had never met another Persona user, much less one with so much potentinal. Akechi thought himself special, but it was not proven that it may not have been the case. His eyebrows nitting in the center of his forehead. He sighed deeply.
“Whatever the case I do hope we meet again.” he spoke to himself as he let his eyes fall shut.

kotohime palace rulers ranking (wakaba included)
oh no, being asked for my opinions on the palace rulers, whatever shall i do...
KOTOHIME'S TOP 9 PALACE RULERS!!! WHO IS MARUKI
at number 9 we have the one and only kunikazu okumura!
probably the most predictable outcome, but can you blame me when he has an atrocious palace design, terrible writing as a character both in that arc and in haru's confidant, unsavoury memories of a certain cat... i mean, it wasn't really kuni's fault that morgana ended up stealing haru's spotlight to have his moment, but the writers know what they did
okumura's saving grace is that 1) he has enough backstory provided for me to do whatever i want with him in rsau and 2) he's pretty handsome
at number 8, junya kaneshiro!
now don't get me wrong, i love kaneshiro. i think about him allllll the time and he's THE bro in rsau (i can't go a second without mentioning it sorry) and also suguru's implied romantic interest cough cough
but... uh... :')
his palace is just as annoying. the only bonus it has is better music. makoto's awakening is also super sick, but this ain't about her
i get that he's got a fixation on being rich but it's a little comical how much he talks about it. like. he LOOOVES money. money money money. and hes purple fly hitler. who loves money
coming up on number 7 is yaldabaoth
cool twist. cool ending. cool whatever. but youre not my kitten baby (he actually is a kitten in rsau. or is he a cobra? kuni calls him a zebra)
at number 6 is wakaba isshiki!!!
who are you
at number 5 we have........ masayoshi shido!
was THAT predictable? i didn't think so!
you might think that from the amount of posting i do about how deeply i desire him carnally i must be a big fan, right? well. eh
playing through his palace was tedious and longwinded and dull when it wasn't plot-related. the whole "oh, kaneshiro and madarame actually knew shido and were sucking his dick the whole tiiiime" thing is also completely unnecessary and never gets mentioned again. nobody even talks about it. you probably didnt even remember it until i mentioned it again
shido is still cartoonishly evil like okumura is, but he gets bonus points for not trying to be made into a sympathetic, hard-working and misunderstood dad in akechi's confidant (and at least we actually get to see him show feelings towards things, even if it is just hating children and monologuing in his office)
also hes kiiiiiiiiiind of the tritagonist in cnau but we aren't going to talk about that.... yet..............
idk. i like shido but there's people who are better
making it into number 4 is futaba sakura!
i really like the twist on the concept of palace rulers actually. not every person with distorted desires is a bad person; instead of sabotaging others, futaba is self-sabotaging. but with a change of heart, that little shut-in is able to get back up and live life to the fullest!
now in the top 3, i give this spot to ichiryusai madarame!
the palace ruler with a canon deadname...... our trans icon 🏳‍🌈
he's what okumura wishes he was. this single father can do it all! he can paint, love, steal, emotionally abuse, he's a man of many hats without mastering anything!
if theres anyone who i love picking apart the brain of more than kaneshiro, it's madarame. he hates himself so much that it loops back around to having a huge ego. he was jealous of yusuke's mother and the talent she held that he let her die just so he can be validated boohoo
madarame thinks hes only worth what he creates, and being yusuke's only authoritative figure, imprinted that mindset and behaviour onto him. he actually sees yusuke as his son and loves him deeply but hes soooo dependent on him in multiple ways and without him he literally crumbles. madarame is pathetic and helpless and i love him
in 2nd place is sae niijima!
you know her. i know her. we've seen that section of the story. soooo good. banger palace theme, pretty environment, attractive lady, hoo-wee!
seriously, she has great development. sae never actually gets a change of heart, she changes on her own because she remembers she's here to protect what she really cares about; justice. she comes to be one of the few adults the phantom thieves can genuinely place their trust in. theres a bonus chapter in mementos mission where sae looks at buchimaru slippers because they remind her of makoto. and thats after she roundhouse kicks a purse-snatcher in the face while wearing high heels.
she's also the one who won the hottest palace ruler poll by a longshot so. you go girl!
and at long last... number 1 goes to......
SUGURU KAMOSHIDA!!!!!!!
i wanted to get a bunch of pictures of him for this but he's actually so hideous i legitimately got freaked out
he's my meow meow who did nothing wrong (he did everything wrong) and hes just a baby (literal abuser) and youre all just mean (he deserves worse)
they wanted to write a piece of shit and they did it. and they did it well. i can't think of a single reason why someone would like this guy. and thats exactly why i like him.
kamoshida was conditioned to believe that his actions had no consequences and therefore he could do whatever he wanted. people would cover it up. they'd keep their silence. his reputation is great enough that everyone is too worried to topple it because it might crush them when he falls. he doesn't need to be two-faced when they've already seen the other mask. hes the greatest introductory to the story and themes of persona 5 ever and i would not have it any other way
kamoshida is a SHIT BAG. he makes me legitimately sick to my stomach in a way the other characters just dont really do. i mean the mementos palace did a pretty good job of making me think about what im doing with my life so props to them, but like i said just looking at kamoshidas face made me feel uneasy
also i wrote a oneshot about him and kaneshiro fucking and there was the swag mention of the lingering guilt he experiences in the back of his mind every time he hurts someone because he is still a human after all
he's the protagonist in rsau and he's my favourite test subject for different kinds of pain and anguish. suguru kamoshida numba one 4eva. i hope he dies

Awakening yourself
Game/Anime: Persona 5
Charakter: Akira kurusu/ Ren Amamiya (Protagonist),
Ship's: Akira X Fem! Reader, Guyana X Yusuke, Ann X Ryuji, Haru X Makoto.
Warnings: mentioning of child abuse, gore, mentioning of self harm, death, mentioning of suicide, fluff, blood.
A/N: This was an idea from myself. I just love Akira/ Ren and he ist just argh. All talk parts are coloured as follows: Akira, Ryuji, you, you brother, your persona. Others are white Now let's start
Tumblr media
It was simpl, really. You knew that your boyfriend Akira was involved with the Phantomthieves ever sense the Kamushida incident. However you didn't though that he wer they're leader. Unaware to him, you hade followd him and his team in EVERY single Castle and fought your way through the shadows behind them. NONE of them notice't. Not even Akechi. But then they got in to the Castle of your Brother. And that's were you drew the line.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"How dear you!? I WILL DO AS I WISH!!!"
You brother screamed at Joker, Holding hin in the black Tentacle that came from the back of his torso (like kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul!). He squeezed Your Boyfriend so hard that he started coughing blood.
"joker!"
Skull's voice echoed through the big room they were in. All of the other thieves trapped in a cage. You saw it all. How your partner was so close to dieing. Everything rushed back. All the trauma that you hade to experience! A flashback rolled Infront of your eyes:
____________________________________
"You are useless!"
You looked up to your mother who was in Rage about what you just hade done. All the progress she made was gone and you caused it. She grabt you by the neck, holding you, as you started to suffocate. Your throat sore and you body unable to move.
____________________________________
You feeld a pain in your chest. Seeing this happing to Akira too made you incredibly angry. So you just wend for it!
"Oi!!! Lett him go Nee-san!!!"
With one leg in a rock you stood there. All eyes on you.
"Y/N?"
Your boyfriend's voice was quite and broken. You jumpt from the statue you were standing on, in you hand a pistol. Said pistol was now pointed at your Older brother.
"Why? Why should I Y/N!?"
Y/B/N shouted. You smiled softly.
"because the boy you are currently suffocating if my fucking Partner"
And with that you Shot you brother in the tentacles, causing him to drop Akira. You made sure that Akira was safe and ready to figth before you lett your guard down. Your Brother looked at you. Then he started screaming again:
"if it wasn't for you Mom and dad would never be in jail rigth now!!! And Grandma would also be alive. I hate you so much!!!!"
You looked him directly in the eye's. His face looked like the one of a zombie. Patches of skinn weren't even there, wich mend you could see muscle and bones. But you still looked at him with confidence:
"I am done listening to you going on and on and on about me being the problem. You are just spoilt rotten! And I will no longer bow to you!!!"
Suddenly you heard a voice. A male, calming voice.
"you hade me waiting quiet a while Y/N. Will you continue take the blame? Or will you make your own path?"
A sharp pain flue through your body. You started to Shake. But you didn't give in to the pain.
"I am not going to fool myself any longer! I am done!!!"
"well then. Let's form a pact shall we. I am thou, thou art I! Call you my name! Let everyone hear your Roar of revange!"
You mask appeared on you face. It looked like Akira's just in black withe a red base.
"now way! Y/N too?"
Morgana yelled. But you paid no minde.
"I hear you..... Come to me....."
Your ripped the mask of your face. Blood everywhere.
"Karma!!!!!"
The blood truning to blue fine as you finally activated you full potential. You're persona Standing behind you. A men in shackles and chains. The red outfit reviling much of his none existent Body. Your on the other hand got some real glow up. Your Withe hier was in a high ponytail, the ends now pure black. But you outfit spoke for itself.
Tumblr media
And your weapon? A very,VERY large fan (just like Temari from Naruto) with your secondary weapons being a gun. You smiled and clutched your Hands into a fist. Then you took you Fan and got ready to Atack your brother.
"you are beautiful darling"
Akira was right next to you, ready to end this once and for all! And so you did.
"so this is the backslash? Dean it not only Hurts but I am tired as heck."
Your were Laying in Akira's bed after returning from the Metarverse. Everything hurt and you couldn't really stay awake. Awakening your rebel self had taken a good tal on you. But you didn't mind. Afterall you are in Akira's arms rigth now. Its just you 2. The others were already gone and Morgana out for a walk.
"are you okey?"
Akira's voice was soft but you could see that he was worried.
"I think I should ask you that. Y/B/N nearly crushed you."
Akira Smile's at your comment.
"I'm fine. Now go to sleep"
And that's exactly what you did.
I literally do not know how to use Tumblr in a way that matters, but I am here to scream into the void and beg for someone to take interest in this stupid fucking dp x p5R crossover please
Tumblr media
Danny phantom x persona 5 Royal
Danny would be the death confidante for Akechi, since Akechi would have his own set obviously, he actually doesn't have all the major Arcana tho, only
the tower:Shido
Death: Danny
Judgment: sai
The fool: joker
The hermit : futaba ?(much later)
Akechi himself is the justice card still even from his own perspective.
Danny would be the ace of hearts for joker
Futaba being Goro's half-sister is canon here because I said so.
Also, Danny is 16, akechi is 18 here, because,,,,little brother vibes
Akechi enrolls Danny into jokers school, he meets Sumire and they hang out a bit, which is how he meets joker and through joker, Futaba omg Danny Futaba and Sumi cause the most chaos as a trio, perfect
Akechi, Yusuke, and Hifumi all go to the same school, but because akechi is a 3rd year they don't interact pretty much at all.
Danny upon meeting joker for the first time: you should date my dad actually
As a timeline note, Danny shows up when the actual pt are working on Makoto's palace so that I can have my space station time, but also because,,,,hehe plot.
Danny and akechi making each other realize they were victims of extreme abuse
Akechi much later allowing Danny to absolutely fuck his reputation to fuck with Shido, but also because they're teaching each other how to just be kids. God mutual healing for them pls
Danny upon telling akechi he's king of the infinite realms like: so even if you die, you're still stuck with me
A Kechi not knowing why or how this American teenager is speaking fluent Japanese to him
Danny who doesn't know he's speaking Japanese, or even that he's in Japan for like the first MONTH he's there
Ohya is the one that gets the shot of a Kechi and Danny in shibuya, them trying to sell Danny as akechis "son" is so so funny to me because he's literally only 2 years younger than him, so it's not possible, but they sure did run the article
This is not a Danny gets yeeted to a new universe au the metaverse is just a smaller dimension that exists right between the infinite realms and earth, so in a way ghosts are just shadows after death, shadows form from the self within the self, and if they progress for long enough, once that person dies, their shadow becomes a ghost, it's why even though not all ghosts are evil, there's a lot of them that are
Tucker and Futaba would either be absolute best friends who already knew each other through the hacking community or worst enemies and I can't decide what's better
Futaba is the one to tell tucker and sam that Danny is alive and ok, because Danny is stupid and doesn’t think to tell them
Danny and Akechi paint each other's nails as a form of bonding
Ghost king Danny, ghost speak, blacklight ectoplasm, I just think they're neat
A half written first chapter for this stg I am not writing more someone else do it please
Danny ends up yeeted into Japan after the last episode of his original series, except it didn't go as well as canon, his parents had only faked their acceptance, in all truth once they'd gotten home, he'd been subjected to months of experimenting, jazz had left for college soon after and didn't know anything and Danny, poor Danny, was letting this all happen to himself because he had convinced himself it was out of love, for the greater good. Eventually, he was broken out of this cycle by his friends who'd spent this whole time trying to free him, and once they did they beelined it for the ghost portal, to get as far away as they could, they took Danny to clockwork as they assumed he'd know best what to do next, and he did. He sent Danny to akechi and his friends back to their homes.
Danny, now with extreme PTSD and lots of new scars to go with it, is completely out of it when he first bumps into akechi. He just kinda ends up in the middle of Akechi's living room, staring at his hands and silently crying, and akechi, who just got home from school and watched this child fall out out a portal onto his carpet, considers calling the police for a second before realizing if he filed a report like that it would absolutely fuck his image, headlines like "detective prince akechi finally snapped?" "Child star gone crazy!" "Young detective claims child 'fell out of portal' more on this at 9" and ultimately decides that he will deal with this problem himself. Armed with his (fake because it's for the metaverse and legally he can't own one) gun akechi slowly approaches him and nudges the back of his head, and suddenly his problem disappears, quite literally, into thin air.
Danny, who absolutely panicked at being broken out of his meltdown by the feeling of cold metal against the back of his head (hmmmm how many things could this remind him of, so so many) had gone invisible and fuckin booked it to the closest corner, his mind not clear enough to get him any further, and his energy not high enough to sustain the invisibility. He was curled in a ball arms crossed out in front of him in an attempt to shield himself.
Akechi snaps to attention as suddenly the child is back but in a completely different location, seemingly much more afraid than before. Akechi thinks about it for a moment before lowering his gun and kneeling onto one knee from where he stood, raising his hands in a sign of surrender, to try and show he no longer means harm.
"Hey, it's ok, can I get you some water?"
Clearly being on the offensive wasn't going to make progress and now akechi was much more interested in this boy than he had been.
He runs through a list of things he was taught to do to deescalate a situation. Try basic questions, offer reassurance, space, and make sure not to move too quickly or unpredictably, that last one will be a little hard since his guest is in an unknown place so no matter what he does it'll be unpredictable.
Danny lowered his hands which had started shaking, waiting for the hurt, the next step, something, after hearing the older boy in front of him speak, he said something about water? Danny thought for a moment, this is all a trap, or not real, or both, or maybe hey, just maybe he finally actually died. In which case, the actions he was now taking meant nothing anyways. He opened his mouth to speak but only a hoarse impression of an attempt at speech came out, so instead, he nodded. He was so entirely unsure of his situation, and the tears wouldn't stop, god he just wanted to help, he did everything they asked, so why did it never sto- Danny closed his eyes painfully tight and repeated the word no to himself mentally in an attempt to stop his thoughts from going where they were.
Akechi winced at the sound of the boy's voice, could it even be called that, but took note of the small nod and stood to go retrieve water. Once he had the drink in hand he stood about 5 feet away from the boy and spoke again.
"Can I come over and hand this to you?" He needs to make sure not to send him further into whatever sort of attack he was having, so being overly careful about all his actions was the least he could do.
Danny he was just barely starting to regain his ability to actually breathe, shook his head no rapidly, but had no idea how to communicate his wants without his voice.
"I'll just set it on the floor right here then and go back to where I was"
Was this man an angel? How did he know what Danny wanted, when he hadn't spoken a word? Danny gave an agreeing shake to his head this time and waited for the man to go back and sit down before essentially crawling over to the cup. He relished in the feeling of the water running down his throat, of the concept of kindness being shown to him, for the first time in months.
Akechi waited for the boy to calm fully and seem more at ease before saying he was going to get bedding for him, he'd set him up on the couch, and get him some food (not that akechi had much to offer, but he was sure he could find something) and letting him rest for the night.
What a strange fucked up situation this was, akechi wasn't sure how to feel about any of it, but he did have a growing sense of pity for the boy. He'd clearly been through something, and the whole falling out of thin air onto his floor definitely didn't help. Goro didn't exactly want to subject this child to the things he himself had been through when Shido was experimenting with his abilities, so he'd keep him confined to his house for now while he sorted it all out. On the other hand, akechi doesn't trust this unknown at all, so he'd call in sick to school in the morning, and take a few days off, his grades shouldn't suffer too much given his aptitude for memorization, but it wouldn't exactly be pleasant either.
Speaking of unpleasant things, akechi checks his phone for the time, and looks at the news before sighing and softly telling the boy he was going to sleep, and pointing out where his room and the bathroom were in case either was needed. Goro also knew in the back of his mind somewhere that telling this stranger who had literally disappeared and reappeared right in front of his eyes earlier, where he slept wasn't exactly the brightest idea, but he also knew he wouldn't be sleeping tonight, too busy researching and trying to figure anything he could out. He'd even need to be careful of what he looked into though, considering the kind of mistrust and surveillance Shido had of him, wouldn't want to tip him off now would we?
Danny took the bedding given to him and hulled himself up in a corner ready to stay awake the rest of the night on high alert, or he would have if it wasn't suddenly a completely different time of day, Danny swears he only blinked but in that moment his body must have shut down, after such a long period of abuse and lost sleep, it must have deemed this a safe enough environment to sleep. What had woken him up though was the sound of something falling, he assumes it came from the kitchen nearby, but he hadn't been conscious enough on the outside to process anything else that happened, in fact, he'd almost immediately started panicking again.
Goro poked his head into the living room to see the boy wide awake and staring into nothing with a sense of panic. He wanted to apologize, but he felt speaking and startling the kid out of that state would only make it worse. Maybe he himself had needed to sleep more than he'd imagined though, because as bad at cooking as he was, dropping a frying pan was a new one. What was he even doing with the pan to begin with? He couldn't remember now, the pounding sound had rattled his brain too much.
Akechi Goro
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Age: 17
Home: Tokyo (Persona 5)
Blood type: AB
Dislikes: Injustice, his father, the world, himself
Likes: …Joker? Maybe?
Persona: Robin Hood
Polite, humble, and charismatic, Akechi is seen as the second coming of the Detective Prince. Despite the fact that the first coming was still around and, I assume, actively detecting. (The timeline’s a little fuzzy, but P4 and P5 both took place in the 2010s, right?)* Anyways, that’s just the persona he shows the media, so that point’s a little pointless.
Akechi is the secret child of Masayoshi Shido, a megalomaniacal Prime Minister candidate. Akechi works for Shido, using his access to the Metaverse (the cool magical one, not the lame Web 3.0 one) to create scandals and assassinate people on his father’s behalf.
But that is just another mask, one he shows Shido and his allies. Deep down, Akechi is driven by two things: A bone-deep feeling of isolation, and a strong sense of justice. In truth, Akechi hates and is working against his father, which should make him a natural ally/party member of the Phantom Thieves, but—well, you saw how many layers of BS he shrouds himself in.
Akechi’s existence caused a scandal for his mom’s family, which ended in said mom committing suicide and said family shuffling him around for a few years before dumping him in a “child institution”. This experience made him feel unloved and worthless, giving him both a misanthropic worldview and a crippling insecurity complex, which resolve into an overwhelming perfectionist streak (to make him worth something, you see) and a complicated revenge plan against his dad where step 1 is to murder people he wants to die.
Those…aren’t the healthiest coping mechanisms. In fact, they end in a self-destructive spiral which ends in his heavily implied death. (Outside P5 Royal, of course.) I can certainly see why he’s so many people’s poor little meow meow.
Speaking of which, what does Tumblr have to say about Akechi?
i could heal his trauma <- lying
HE LITERALLY PUTS JOKER’S LIFE BEFORE HIS OWN
happy pride
*Like, I guess Naoto is probably a late millennial and Akechi an early zoomer, so it’s sort of a generational thing, but also there’s only a few years’ age difference between them? I can see what Atlus was doing there, but it still seems like a weird worldbuilding detail; it kinda feels like Naoto was recognized as the Detective Prince and then fell out of favor for some reason. Maybe her fears that her detective work would be ignored if people knew she was a woman came true?
I haven’t actually played Persona 5, but seeing another Detective Prince after just a few years when the first one had a whole complex about whether or not she’d be accepted as her honest self, to the point that it manifested as a Shadow that wanted to perform a “body-altering operation” to make the problem go away. Which is a whole other can of worms I’m not qualified to open, but the point is, it’s sad that Naoto seemingly lost her Detective Prince title after just a few years when she was worried about that specific thing happening.
And unless something relevant happened in that Naoto novel I’ve been meaning to read, it just sorta happened…not even offscreen, exactly, just implicitly.
i can't actually reply to the ask for some reason, so i'm answering it like this! as always:
answers for the ask game under the cut!
3 male characters I love:
my favorite male characters have recently shifted, with a new guy claiming the top spot. that one is no other than shinjiro aragaki! since i played persona 3 portable and romanced him (+got that eleventh social link with him 👀) he became my favorite guy! i really love him and he's such a tragic little guy. he'll break my heart a second time once p3 reload drops :')
my second favorite (and former first place) is yosuke hanamura! i liked yosuke from the start in persona 4 and he just grew on me so much over the game. he never left my party and he's been my favorite since my first day of playing the game. he's just great!
third place would have to go to goro akechi! i can't even remember why i was so interested in him when i started persona 5, but he just caught my attention from the start. his voice actor is absolutely amazing and akechi gets even better in the royal section of the game. he's just such a tragic character and so interesting!
3 female characters I love:
i'm not as passionate about the persona women as i am about the persona men. i like pretty much all of the girls equally, but a few stand out a bit. one of them being kotone shiomi aka. femc! i just love how silly she is and she's such a nice contrast to the male protagonist of persona 3. but she still keeps that tragedy that both of the protagonists have. honestly, she's by far my favorite girl!
my second favorite would have to be rise kujikawa! i knew i'd like her from the start and when i actually did her social link, i got so sad that i was already dating someone else, because turning down rise was so heartbreaking. rise is such a great and interesting character, as well as also being weirdly relatable!
my third pick would have to be makoto niijima (i'm seeing a trend here with my fav characters lmao). i just find her relatable and she's a very sweet character. she really grows a lot and i love that for her!
3 romantic ships I love:
my absolute favorite ship is foolmoon aka. shinjiro aragaki x kotone shiomi! everything about them is just perfect! they offer the right amount of angst/fluff ratio, their ship name is absolutely brilliant and they are both great characters, that get even better when put together! plus, there's something tragically beautiful about (major persona 3 spoiler coming now!) how when you pair them up in p3p, shinjiro actually survives the game, while kotone dies. the one that wanted to die lives, while the one that wanted to live dies. it's just... man, those two are breaking my heart in the best way possible!
no other ship can compete with them, but following my unintentional pattern, my second favorite ship is kanji tatsumi x naoto shirogane. i already love kanji a ton (he'd be my fourth fav guy, but he just barely didn't make the list) and he really gets to shine when he's with naoto. those two really are a straight ship made for gay people.
and my third pick is going to be aigis and kotone shiomi / makoto yuki. honestly, both of the protags with aigis are great! there's something so tragic about this ship, plus i love android characters like aigis that need to learn friendship, love, emotions and all that fun stuff. that pairing is really great as friends as well though! i just think they are neat together, no matter how!
3 platonic dynamics I love:
i have way more platonic dynamics i love, so this is kinda hard for me. i really love rise with both yosuke and kanji as friends! i can't really pick a favorite guy here, they are both great with rise!
another character that i just cannot pick for either is shinjiro aragaki, who i love with akihiko, fuuka and ken! each of those three for different reasons, but they are all great and really enhance his character!
that's more than three already, so i'll just... move on!
3 favorite moments in canon:
shinjiro's "secret eleventh social link" with the femc in persona 3 portable! first off, it's just a really sweet scene, plus it's great that you can still date him despite all of it. but then that social link itself is so funny, because... it highkey implies you two are fucking??? like with the right dialogue choices, you end up in his room and he tells you the whole "i'm not holding back if you stay". that caught me so offguard because i was just messing around with the dialogue choices and suddenly something's actually happening??? it's both sweet and funny, which is something you can't say about most scenes shinjiro is in, so i really appreciate it!
another canon moment i really love is the ending of persona 4, when everyone is running along the train and you get to see a picture of the investigation team :') it's just a very sweet scene and perfect to end the game with!
my third favorite canon moment would have to be the "bad" ending of persona 5 royal. because, it really isn't bad at all. it's happier than the "good" ending, which is a very interesting thing to do. that scene is just so incredibly bittersweet, knowing this is the "bad" ending, while also seeing everyone so happy. can it really be that bad if it makes them happy? :')
3 favorite headcanons:
i headcanon quite a lot of people as bi, but especially yosuke, kanji and naoto! kanji and naoto just give me "bi people in a straight relationship" vibe, while yosuke literally had a cut gay confession scene that i cannot ignore. also, he's such a disaster bi!
i don't really have that many big headcanons, so another one would have to be... haru likes otome games! and she gets ann & makoto to play a few of them as well (and both of them are lowkey into it).
my third headcanon is going to be that rise would've tried to become a streamer instead of an idol if that had been an option. sort of like iris from ai:tsf, who's half streamer and half idol. i think rise would've thrived like that and instead of taking a break from being an idol, she would've just taken a break and focused more on streaming!
3 least favorite things about it:
immediately spoiler for the ending of persona 3, but i hate that final boss! it has way too many phases! plus, i encountered a glitch during the last phase of that fight in my playthrough and it had took me almost two hours already to even get to that point. this one is just a personal grudge!
another thing i hate with a burning passion, even more than the p3 endboss, is the fact that you can date kawakami in persona 5! i really loved the first arc of persona 5, with kamoshida as the villain, since it's... relatable? saying it like that sounds bad, but hear me out: we all went to school and had teachers, some worse than others, so we all know a few teachers each. but how many politicians do you know? or how many famous artists? kamoshida was relatable because even if you never went through something that horrible, it's much more likely that you were wronged by a teacher before than a politician, famous artist or some mafia guy. i really loved how serious they took the kamoshida situation, only to be absolutely disgusted when seeing you could date kawakami. like, did we not just establish that teacher & student relationships are bad? did the people making persona 5 forget what the first ten hours of that game were about? or is it suddenly okay to have an age and power gap like that, because kawakami is a woman and "that's hot"? seriously, this is one thing i'm massively dissappointed about. also, in the same vein: why can you romance ken, a literal child, in persona 3? 🤨 that one is just as bad, but i just never did ken's social link so i never had the chance to build a hatred for this as strong as my hatred for the kawakami romance.
i think another thing i hate, which also fits my first point: the boss fight against haru's dad. it already sucks, but adding a timer to it? unforgiveable! timers are the worst thing to exist. i don't want to be rushed, i want to take my time with games. it's already a bad boss fight, but anything with a timer already gets ten times worse.
P5R PMD AU because i am insane!!!
So I have many a thought in my head and with Spike Chunsoft dangling the idea of a new Mystery Dungeon entry in front of my face this past week I have more thoughts. Especially about the Mystery Dungeon AU's I create with every fandom I join.
So um Persona 5 PMD au (with some visuals).
Also this will contain major spoilers for Persona 5 Royal and Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon.
First, this is a rewrite of PMD Super, because I will not write a new story for this and also because I always see Explorers get the crossover au/rewrite treatment (as it should tbh) and we gotta switch it up!! Now with the main plot not really changing we can jump into the characters.
1. The Heros
The hero role is filled both by Akira Kurusu and Goro Akechi, both being human and both losing their memories respectfully after being isekai'd into a foreign world. These bitches gay, so I think it's funny to throw them into another god killing situation.
The role stays true to the plot, get chased by Beheeyem, get adopted, join the guild, etc. it would just have more banter between characters in between.
Akira:
At first you may think, "Wouldn't Zorua fit better? Isn't that the black and red trickster Pokémon that fits the overall aesthetic really well? Wouldn't it have been cool for an Akiren that could summon fake illusion personas???" Because I thought the same things until I realized I cannot draw Zorua!
I also think even though Floragato doesn't really fit aesthetically, it fits in every other aspect of joker persona. Silly little jester cat.
I also thought Zorua would be too much of an awkward fit in the group just, vibes man, he's too small. Once you see my other picks you'll get it. You get silly little jester cat take it or leave it.
Tumblr media
Goro:
STUPID BIRD!! THE CHOICE IS OBVIOUS!! FUCKIN,, CROW MAN!! CORVISQUIRE SWEEP!!
I also made him shiny because it matches his color pallete. Literally easiest decision in the world. I was originally going to go with rookidee but again, too small.
Tumblr media
2. The partner
You thought these bitches were doing this shit alone?? NO!! THEY NEED A SILLY FRIEND!! WHO ELSE TO PUT IN THE ROLE OF THE WEIRD ADOPTED ORPHAN THAN WEIRD ADOPTED ORPHAN FUTABA SAKURA!! Also going forward no other character is human, very important pmd shit.
Futaba:
Similarly to the p5 plot, Futaba is still grieving her mom while getting adopted by Sojiro. Wakaba died in an "unfortunate accident" while doing research for a guild on the grass continent. The last thing left in Futaba's possession is her harmony scarf. Unlike p5, Futaba didn't actually see her mom die since she was in Serene Village while her mom was doing research. She still somewhat blames herself for her mother's death but is motivated to find the truth behind it.
Futaba's social anxiety would prevent her from joining a proper exploration team, until of course she gets two new neighbors that are reminded of someone in her and feel obligated to help (THE HEROS FROM BEFORE IN CASE YOU DIDNT GET THAT). Also in Super, the partner doesn't join a team because everyone fucking hates them and I thought wow! That's way too mean! And not in character!! So I changed that.
Anyways JOLTIK FUTABA, SMALL CREATURE. The only one allowed to be teeny tiny.
I originally was planning to go with a Dewpider since I knew for a fact that I wanted her to be a bug type but then I saw Joltik and thought "wow, this bitch has so much mischievous energy" and it stuck.
She'd probably run a support build of some kind in preparation to be backup.
Tumblr media
3. Nuzleafs replacement
Takuto Maruki.
If you thought anyone but him I would tell you to replay Super Mystery Dungeon BECAUSE I THINK IT FITS SO WELL.
Also because it's weird that Nuzleaf was like unemployed, I also made Maruki Audinos replacement as the school nurse. He can be in a weird cult and work at the school at the same time.
Yes Maruki is the one who sends our protagonists to hell! After his childhood friend Rumi never truly recovered from an accident, Maruki turned to the help of Yveltal, believing that the limbo-like state is better than suffering for a lifetime. This happiness can be easily achieved if only he had a human that could destroy the barrier on Revelation Mountain, then their plan would be foolproof..
Also important to note that actualization doesn't exist because personas and the metaverse wouldn't exist in Pokémon.
FURRET MARUKI SHAKES YOU. His ass looks normal until he STABS YOU IN THE BACK!!
Tumblr media
4. Classmates
Ok I got a little burnt out at this point so I don't have references for these ones but the gist is they're literally just the Shujin guys. None of them would join the exploration team (sorry :() but they would still get little side stories. I also tried to match certain characters with their metaverse powers as a little silly.
Ann: Braixen. Literally makes so much sense. Strong girlboss fire wizard like get it queen!! Fuck yeah!
Ryuji: Luxio but specifically with rivalry instead of intimidate purely because it's funny.
Makoto: Houndour. Honestly went with this because of vibes and also because she counters and covers Haru's weaknesses because I am a Makoharu stan frfr.
Haru: Galarian Ponyta. See Makoto.
Mishima: Please suggest a Pokémon for Mishima. I do not have one.
Shiho: also up for suggestions
Sumire: Eevee. Since actualization doesn't exist, she still knows she's Sumire, but is still strongly advised by Maruki to follow in her sisters footsteps considering she trained her entire life as a performer, why shatter your dreams and pursue something that has the chance to bring you pain? Specifically replaces Espurr in this au since she's being manipulated by Maruki.
Yusuke: Alolan Vulpix. Not part of the school, he lives in Lively Town with Madarame, but he gets included on this list because I have no where else to put him.
Morgana: Purrloin. Isn't in this story like at all because he got arrested for crime. Thought I'd include him anyways.
5. Extra thoughts
I have a few more characters that I know for sure are going to be here. Every change of heart is going to happen but they would most likely get arrested instead (cause no metaverse).
This really is just a self-indulgent mashup of P5 and PMD. The characters still generally keep their arcs even if they aren't as important, the overall plot is just that of PMD Super.
And that about wraps it up for now! If you made it this far, I love you, mwah. Also please please please send any questions because I am writing this in the middle of the night and I KNOW I probably missed something and I really just want to share this silly au. Thank you for reading!
P5R broke me
Hello tumblr ! I finished playing Persona 5 Royal and I have a lot of feelings about it and need to put it out there. And tumblr seemed like the best place for it even though I haven't posted in years x)
Beware, this post will contain spoilers (well, the game is old but there still might be people like me who are late to the party).
So, first of all, I wanted to play a Persona game for a long time since I heard a lot of good things about it, but I never got to it 'cause I didn't have the motivation to spend 100+ hours into a game (says the girl who played WoW for 10 years). But since it recently came out on Switch and I didn't have any ongoing game I decided to finally give it a try. And I'm SO glad I played the royal version because Akechi was by far my favorite character and a big part of why I loved this game, and apparently he didn't have as much development in the original ? And Sumire was my second favorite so... yeah, royal for the win !
Anyway, to talk about the plot, basically this game broke me several times.
The confrontation with Akechi in Shido's palace was absolutely heartbreaking (props to the voice actors, JA and EN). A lot of what he said hit way too close to home, and the whole time I was yelling at my screen for Joker to say something ("say something i'm giving up on you" cover by Robbie Daymond playing in the background).
Anyway, I spent the rest of the game grieving (and raging against Shido because will you fucking die goddamnit, I've been fighting you for 45 minutes !!!!), but then Akechi reappears like nothing happened ??? And he's way too evasive about how he survived ????? And then Maruki's like, sike, got you, he dead ! ... Thank you game, I don't need to grieve a second time.
And of course, Akechi knew the whole fucking time, and didn't say anything, and he basically tells Joker he wants to die and tells him he doesn't need pity. Like, excuse me Sir ?! But first of all don't talk about yourself like that, and secondly, what about Joker in all of this ? This is not about pity, Joker wished for Akechi to be here. Like, seriously, Joker deserves to be happy after everything he's been through. And I get what Akechi is saying, he doesn't want to be toyed with by Maruki, like he's been controlled all his life, but he's aware of it, and I'm sure he could find happiness somewhere in this...
So... after staring at my screen 5 whole minutes, I took Maruki's offer. I'm weak, I know, I really just wanted to see them happy for once, they deserve the world. That end card is my wallpaper now.
But anyway, after taking a break, back to the true ending because I'm still curious despite it all. So we defeat Maruki, and Joker's reward is some time in jail and Akechi disappearing. Great. At least they get him out of jail but like, nobody talks to him about Akechi ? They know that Akechi was Joker's wish but they don't address it with him. Seriously, someone at least give this guy a hug, wtf ? Through the WHOLE game, he helped every single one of them. But no, he's the leader, he needs to stay strong, right...
And then when Joker goes to the jazz club.. and he still has Akechi's glove in his pocket... Excuse me, just crying over there.
To top it all, I was dating Sumire in this playthrough (rank 9 event done), but since I didn't get her to 10, the game acted like nothing happened. I spent valentine's day alone and it felt like Joker and her had broken up so it just added that much more drama lol.
But really, I love tragedies, and this game delivered. This was a well-crafted rollercoaster of emotion from start to finish and every hour was worth it. And it's very rare for me to do multiple playthough of a game, but I definitely will for this one. This is going in my top 5 games of all times for sure.
Anyway, I'm dead inside now and I'll probably be reblogging memes to cope x)
(Also, on a lighter note, the music in this game is a bop. Lyn is absolutely incredible.)
Was struggling quite a bit picking my next anime but have settled on: Bungo Stray Dogs!! First impressions:
I did what I usually do when I can't decide on something- watched the first episode of 4 different anime and see what piques my interest the most
The options were Attack on Titan (which I truly do want to watch someday but it's just really scary imo), restart My Hero Academia (which I still plan to but after finishing JJK yesterday I'm still in too much pain to stand watching something so happy-go-lucky), Chainsaw Man (which seems very WEIRD and that was my only takeaway really), but the one that really interested me
Bungo Stray Dogs- I've heard many many good things about it, seen it VERY frequently on ao3, knew ultimately nothing, but read the synopsis and thought to myself "damn that's hilarious. and dark. you've got my attention."
ACTUAL first impressions ↓
I can't tell if I like Dazai
I WANT to like him but his resemblance to Goro Akechi is throwing me off and causing me to unfairly berate his every action
I'm so sorry Dazai I'm trying to leave my judgements at the door I'm sure you're great
His suicide obsession is really funny
That's probably insensitive but as someone who struggles often with those thoughts I feel semi-alright saying that it's hilarious
It's just completely unexplained too that's why it's so funny that's my exact sense of humor
Atsushi is soooooo cuuute!!! What a cutie-pie!! Such wonderful character design! The purple & yellow eyes! The asymmetric haircut! The suspenders and black belt! I adore it!
HE'S A FUCKING TIGER
Kunikida is giving such strong Klaus Lunette energy it's great
I'd probably hate him if he didn't look and act like the lovechild of Klaus Lunette and Kento Nanami
The ONLY thing that threw me off the first episode is what are these powers
'Undefeated by the rain', huh??? 'Thou shalt not die' okay so he's just invincible? Alright okay I guess
The abilities look so video game-esque too with the green swirly stuff
That's not a turn off just something I noticed
Hnngg this is my 4th anime in a row where everyone has unique powers it's kind of frying my brain with the monotony
But shoenen is shoenen! I asked for this
And I'm super duper intrigued about where this goes these characters seem super fun
The whole private investigator concept is a new one for me and I'm into it
I also have this terrible terrible habit where in absolutely any franchise given my favorite characters are 1) the main one and 2) some absolute rando who is less important to the plot than a goddamn dust bunny
So stay tuned if you are interested in who the second person will end up being I'll keep you updated
That's a wrap!
Vanilla-Okumura
Oh, yeah this arc. I like Morgana. I just get PTSD from Okumura's battle. I hated doing the song in Dancing.
"Stress is the enemy of beauty". 🤣🤣 I can see Sae pulling this out later on.
Unvoiced conversation.
Help Futaba get rid of her unease. I want to say its worded differently in Royal, but I don't remember.
Ohya's boss sucks.
Unvoiced conversation. Pretty big one too. You would think it would be voiced.
I like to throw Yusuke under the bus.
Unvoiced conversation.
Ann and Ryuji, the blond extrovert twins.
"Don't worry about it". As he asks for the guy's personal info. Honestly, how fucking charming/trustworthy is Ren? I'd be kinda suspicious if a dude asked me for the full name of my problem and told me not to worry. I'd think I was about to be caught up in a murder charge.
Unvoiced conversation. Again, another big one.
Unvoiced conversation. Big one.
I love Futaba scaring that fuck head.
Does anybody actually use Fate Reading?
Unvoiced conversation.
I love how they just bought her a swimsuit without knowing her taste or size.
Batting cages aren't open at night.
I never knew what that building was I thought it was an office building, not a movie theatre.
I worked at the Beef Bowl twice and never went back. I got my precision elsewhere.
Unvoiced conversation. Eternal Lockpick became Perma Pick.
Kawakami doesn't ask questions, she just makes a lock pick and other things for you. 🤣🤣
No wonder I forgot Akechi has a first name. He barely says his first name.
Trauma dump and rank up.
I love how there's two pronunciations of Medjed, depending on the person.
It's more flirty when it's not an auto rank-up.
Futaba's trying to drag poor Sojiro outside.🤣🤣
Me and my brother used to light the Smoke Bombs and run through the smoke. Probably not the best idea.
They're going to light the basket on fire. And kill Morgana.
You don't need a stat requirement to work at Crossroads? Kind-3, Precision-3
Lala's not voiced.
I would love it if he cross dressed. Morgana speaking the truth.
I swear in Royal there's four customers you can choose from. There is they added an Office Worker who gives you knowledge.
You only get 5,400 Yen (38.67 Dollars) for a Sunday😨😨. In Royal, it's 12,000 Yen (84.59)🤑🤑.
No mention of Sundays being the day to work.
Christ sakes, Ren 😋😋🥵🥵
I like how Makoto's top has kitty paws on the straps.
I love how Ann pulls one over on Ryuji.
I'd die if Ren look at me like that. Like I'd be a puddle.😍😍
I don't think Ren has any trouble stealing hearts.
Unvoiced conversation.
Yusuke and his lobsters🤣🤣
I like how in the anime, Ren asks if he has enough money for the train home.
Unvoiced conversation.
like how they know they're in high school, but they still hit on them. 😠😠
Unvoiced conversation.
I can only imagine what Futaba hears.
Ryuji needs to stop putting his foot in his mouth.
Does Ren not like to type?
Unvoiced conversation.
No, not human Morgana 🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️.
Don't you get Harisen Recover at R.6?
I never knew he grunted/thinking noises if you stayed on the map too long. Honestly, I thought it was some sort of intestinal distress. I also didn't know they moved it outside, to the city in Strikers. I heard it one night when I was alone. Scared the shit out of me. Took me three times of hearing it to figure out what it was. Look, I'm happy they're giving Xander lines, but can they give him more than simple sentences and sound bites? I ain't saying he has to read the phone book, unless that's a key story beat.😋😋😍😍 But I wouldn't mind more lines. Let's hope Tactica gives some new lines, or at least said in a new way.
The fountain pen was sold in Shinjuku?
think they changed the descriptions for the 2nd tier Personas new moves.
Unvoiced conversation.
Unvoiced conversation.
120,000 Yen=849.55 Dollars.
Unvoiced conversation.
Unvoiced conversation.
I love how Sojiro doesn't care that you take Morgana to school.
Unvoiced conversation.
So Kin-Ki lost his Psychic weakness.
I think they made Ren faster.
I love driving down every floor of Mementos.
Sneezing while frozen is an accomplishment.
High Counter used to be called Counterstrike.
Hole Gold🤨🤨
I confuse Neko Shogun and Nekomata for some reason.
I think when most of your team is statused. The AI should prioritize whoever can hit a weakness, or Ren. Because a dead leader is game over.
I didn't know in my first playthrough, that Harisen Recover worked on all teammates. I thought it was only you. Imagine my surprise the first time it activated for someone else.
He's going to backhand somebody one day.
I know it's the game keeping you from doing things. But damn, Morgana rules with an iron fist.
Slight different question. Macadamia nuts are expansive.
As much as I don't like Kawakami. I do hate that her romance response is delayed. When I romanced her to get the award. I thought I messed up and didn't hit a romance flag. (Like Takemi or Chihaya). I get why but, it still made me think I messed up.
Mishima used to text you after every completed Mementos Mission?🙃🙃
Softer "yes" after you help Kawakami. Royal's is a bit louder.
Dude, you pay so much more money for the Big Bang 🍔 challenge in the morning. I mean I'd heard that you pay more but not 700 and then 1,000 Yen more.
Ren's going to drop dead of a heart attack.
Unvoiced conversation.
I love how if you lose at the crane game enough. Morgana won't let you play it anymore that day.
I hated going to the Maid Cafe. 🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️
Was there always a conversation on the night of 9/6?
I thought when you're on probation that you can't leave the country. Or is that house arrest?
Unvoiced conversation.
They moved the picture to after they get to Hawaii.
Sexy pics are a no go.
When they question how long you're staying and why. It sounds like they don't want you there. Reminds me of when sales people bug me too much in a store. I'll walk right out. Although, you can't get back on the plane.
I'd rather room with Ryuji than Mishima.
These trips seem like they're PR for the school.
"The good-looking one". Okay Mishima.👌🏻
Unvoiced conversation.
Random Yusuke.
Unvoiced conversation.
I don't think Ren is a big photo guy.
Unvoiced conversation.
I love the lei loading scene.
Wouldn't it be funny if Ryuji's roommate's girlfriend was Ann's roommate?🤣🤣
They never thought of sharing.
I love how all those options apply to Akechi.
I don't think "I don't have a type" is in Royal.
Poor Mishima. The tap water thing is Mexico. Not the US.
Think Hawaii's boring. Try Hawaii without much voice acting.
"You'll get fat". Dude is cruisin' for a bruising.
Are Garlic Shrimp really foreign? They sell them at restaurants over here in the US. I can't imagine it's hard to make.
Unvoiced conversation.
I'm sure Mishima could get a girlfriend if he didn't seem like an incel. That and the fact that I think if a girl hugged him he'd cream his pants.
Unvoiced conversation.
"Secret lover coming after me with an axe".🤣🤣
As funny as that is they don't know that they met Haru, yet.
Also, are the localizers British? They just stuck the gift scene in there. Bye, potato 👋🏻👋🏻
Morgana should talk to him. I know Ren would listen.
"Here's your gift". 🎁 "Your principal's dead".🤨🙄 Nice greeting. Why would they care?
Morgana's at fault because he doesn't talk about his problems. Ryuji's at fault because he repeatedly calls Morgana useless and says Makoto and Futaba are better than him. He gets impatient when they stake out Mementos. Then he says "We don't care if you're useless". 🦶=👄
Unvoiced conversation.
That's because the principal sucked.
Cute Akechi face x4.
Unvoiced conversation.
I love how Ren and Futaba are the only ones worried about Morgana.
Different question.
They added the Morgana lives here things in Royal. Claw marks on the table leg. Paw prints in the dust. I think there's one more, but I don't remember it.
Different sound for the holographic screens.
I love this scene in the anime. Ren's line is 😋😋😍😍 "It means to help the weak and dethrone the mighty".
Women can be evil too, Ryuji.
YouTube comments led me to believe Haru was the black mask.
Different question.
I've lost track of where Ren was in the Mementos scenes. Because he's allergic to colour. I mean sure he looks drop-dead gorgeous, but he also blends in.
Foot meet mouth.
So help me God, Ryuji. We were so close.
Ann so should've smacked him.
I think he jumps out of the way faster in Royal.
Unvoiced conversation.
Did they change Haru's dad's voice?
There's no turning back now. Jesus, does the game expect us to marry and have kids with whoever you date? Hasn't they ever heard of breaking up?
"You'll be awarded an extraordinary gift". Yeah, a trip to the hospital for bypass surgery or a trip to the morgue.
Different question.
No chest to the left when you enter.
Black Ooze in Okumura's? I mean it makes sense but...
Smarf man.
What a creep.
I wish you could choose who it kicks out when you get a new teammate.
There's a sound when you hit the safe room doors? Maybe my fan's just too loud.
Different layout.
How is there like nowhere to hide?
Munching on sweets? Oh! Are they talking about the real-life counterparts?
If Queen's Necklace is weak to Gun. Then what is Koh-I-Noor weak to?
We're burglars🤨🤨
He was alone where did the other two come from?
New cut scene.
Haru has 6 Ammo!? Why does it go down to 1 in Royal?
I like the way they did the eavesdropping sections.
Yusuke learns Counterstrike way later in Royal. Like 2 whole palaces later.
"We're not far".🤬🤬 It takes so long to get there.
Different layout.
The robot's bopping to the music.
Different layout.
Unvoiced conversation.
Lilim is weak to Gun, Wind and Bless?
I've never seen a Treasure Demon that knows healing moves or buffs/debuffs.
Different layout.
Different colours for the hydraulic presses.
Different sounds for them too.
Koh-I-Noor has no weakness?
No lasers. Different layout.
I always thought Ryuji's 2nd tier Persona had an "N" at the end.
The urge to use every Persona, just so I can hear his voice. 😋😋
Different sounds for breaking the arms.
I didn't know you could pause the timer by opening the menu.
Unvoiced conversation.
No lasers.
Unvoiced conversation.
I don't like the airlock puzzle. But at least you get a nice view. 😏😏
Scathath? I don't see her till Maruki in Royal.
Different switch noise.
Different layout.
Really wish they gave the option to leave directly after clearing a path to the treasure. They stopped doing that after Madarame.
Wait, you could get an invitation for the next day even if you went to the palace that day? In Royal, that doesn't work even if you use Kawakami. That's why you do Futaba as soon as it opens. So, you can get the aquarium date.
Mishima definitely creamed his pants.
Even Chihaya knows Mishima isn't your friend. 🤣🤣 I've never gotten that scene because I'm always battling Okumura. They straight up just leave him. 🤣🤣
Takemi used to sell Homunculus?
Unvoiced conversation.
Doesn't tell you how many items you can make.
3 categories instead of 2.
Elemental throwables were grouped together.
Couldn't make multiple at once.
Different question.
I don't like Life Will Change instrumental.
Taking the long way around.
No enemy there.
Oh yeah, we have to go the long way.
No dialogue after you hit the door.
So, a minute in Vanilla versus roughly 20 secs in Royal. Although, you do miss out on a chest. But it's nothing that game-breaking.
There's no way this dude would change. He's better off dead.
"I will crush you all". More like you'll use other people as cannon fodder. 🤬🤬
Why does the timer still run when the dialogue's going? I mean it's like seconds, but still.
I like how he backflips.
You have to do this without Haru's baton pass. 😨😨🤬🤬
Mix of robots makes it a bit harder.
Okay, he does add more if you don't beat all of them.
No targeting specific people.
Same number of waves.
I hate the Executive.
"I need sushi". 🤣🤣
The first time I used Izanagi-No-Okumi-Piacaro. The second I used Magatsu-Izanagi. Third and fourth I shot him.
He has a lot more health in Vanilla.
You could take him on at LV.40-42? In Royal, you should be at least 44-45 or higher.
"He'll be fine". 🤣🤣 If dead means fine, then sure. He'll be fine.
What made him change?
Unvoiced conversation.
Added a question to Iwai's R.1.
Unvoiced conversation.
You could get skill cards out of chests in Mementos?
Added a question to Shinya's R.1.
I like Shinya.
Different question.
When Bullet Hail activates the camera angle changes slightly. Same for Treasure Demons, although there's a bit of pause when that happens. It pauses a bit with Disaster Shadows too.
Depending on how much money you have. Getting 100K Yen could potentially help you.
"Just make sure no one sees you". Sure Morgana, nobody's going to see me building bombs and lock picks in class.
"Please leave". 🤣🤣 Look I know Akechi reads more as a yandere in Vanilla, but holy shit. 🤣🤣
Even though Chihaya's older than you. Her romance is pretty cute.
Slightly different question.
I love all the Sonic references.
Morgana doesn't tell you if there's any targets left in the area. Nor does he tell you about where they are. You just have to keep going down and wait till he says something at the start.
Treasure Demons Null all elements they're not weak to. I've only seen that in Strikers, on Merciless. In Royal, they resist.
Also, Stone Of Scone is weak to curse, not fire.
Orlov is weak to curse and found in Sae's Palace.
Different question.
"You're always free". Damn, Futaba.🤣🤣 Poor man has to solve the whole of Tokyo's problems+save the world and you deliver that sick of a burn.
"It's not like there's any customers here". 🤣🤣
"You just had to get close to me". 🙄🙄 Dude, you're the one who wouldn't leave me alone! I've been trying to stay away from you!
"Please leave"x2
They moved Mishima-Dome Town back from 10-9 to 11-3. I've taken that meeting once. I wanted points on Shinya.
They turned 10-10 into a normal hangout. In Royal, you go to Nakano and meet Iwai.
Slightly different question.
"Oh please, give me a break". 🤣🤣 I love the way he says that.
Contorno | Rafe | Trial 3.5 | Re: All of That / Attn: Willow, Capernica, Jun, Kei
The blaze he started quickly roared into an inferno as people reacted the way he expected them to. Well, almost. Inconveniently, Jun had apparently grown more of a spine since their last interaction. Gods damn him, why did he have to pick now of all times to drop the act? He rolled his eyes blatantly as Chris delivers his icy threat, but he at least had the decency or the temerity to look Jun right in the eyes. "I'd prefer we all vote for you, but given that your minder appears to take offense to that, allow me to repeat that I take no pleasure in making it a possibility. Despite our differences, I don't despise you nearly as much, and if you want to live then I'll respect your choice. However, I'm offended that you think I'm apparently more of a threat given that I've espoused from day one that my business here is entertainment. Not murder, not unless it's necessary and even then what would make it really necessary? Entertainment. I don't want to die either. A more noble man in my position would offer to do so for his friends, but my end goal is simply to go home a free man. Even if it seems like all of this madness has already thrown a fucking monkey wrench into things. Well, you know what they say about the best-laid plans."
Throughout it all, Rafe watched with a dispassionate, almost bored look on his face. It would be a worrying sign had it been anyone else, but the inverse was true when it came to expressing emotion for the Surgeon. Having to fake his anger, anguish, sadness, shame, disgust, regret, all of that needed energy wasted on people who didn't need to hear it. A question is posed, a lull in the discussion, and then he speaks once more. "Capernica is correct. I have never seen the blonde wig in question, though I admit to learning she wore a wig quite early on." He tilts his head. "I sincerely cannot provide an explanation for the hair in my locker. The most I can say is that I wore the butler outfit last when I was with Momo, who is blonde, but I suspect that's not quite the answer you would want. Seems a bit anti-climactic if all of this nonsense started simply because I hadn't taken the outfit to launder out."
Ah, he supposed Momo wasn't going to continue their little escapades after this trial, given what had happened and what could happen in it. Shame. This weekend really was the beginning of his 'no maidens' phase, wasn't it? "It is entirely possible to plant hairs on someone with the intention of making it look like they were clutched tightly. The body does not set in rigor mortis until two hours after death." He'll address Chloe next, given that he had the time to and needed the time to decide what he wants to say. It didn't look like they had much time left to come to a decision, and although he already knew what his was going to be, Rafe had also decided to make one last push for an alternative without rallying the others. While his votes were adequate enough, he remembers a certain someone spent most of his votes on the actor. Which all meant that the deciding strike would have to come from one Jun Akechi whether he liked it or not.
Deep breaths. Panic was a foreign concept up until very recently, when he had his emotions cranked up to the maximum level as he wallowed in his blood, drowning and dying in rebar even as the others watched on. "I have a natural proficiency for death. For seeing people die, and at times contributing to it, because the truth of the matter is that you can't save everyone in the operating theatre. I went into medicine because someone has to make those hard decisions, to face two patients in critical condition and already having the burden of knowledge that you have a minimum chance to save one. Here I am, faced with an impossible choice because I wasn't supposed to get this attached. If I don't open up a third option, or fourth since it appears some of you will vote for me over him circumstances be damned, you're essentially making me choose to try and save someone I implicitly trust to hold my life in her hands," Rafe gestures to Capernica. "And someone I implicitly trust to rest my soul in hers." To Willow.
"Whatever their flaws, whatever their sins, both mean something deeply to me. Willow is not a good person, she knows that, I know that. She reminds me of my mother, in wanting to survive against the circumstances despite the shit hand she was dealt, despite the monster of a son my mother brought into the world and yet raised to be the best person he could hope to be. I inherently believe she is trying to be a better person and I would like to see it, but I can't change what she's done or what she feels. That's not my responsibility, but it is my wish to see her be given that opportunity. I don't want Willow to die before she has that." He glances meaningfully at Willow. "I don't believe you killed Peach, but I don't absolve you from the things you have done, or if you ever try to use your backstory as a freudian excuse to justify things. People change. You can too, and that is something you need to do very quickly, in fact."
He turns to the other woman on his right. "Capernica also reminds me of my mother, but even more so because she also will do anything to strike back against this world that has rarely if ever been kind to her. From the very first day, I wanted to be kind, to show I was more than the sum of my parts, and at every opportunity she had, Capernica gave me that freedom to be kind. And for a very long moment at the start of this trial, I wanted to. It would have been so easy to spin a narrative where Kei had accidentally botched a murder and all of this was merely smoke and mirrors by her and Willow to throw attention onto me when it came out that the only other light-haired people all had the luck to have each other as an alibi. I could even justify it as revenge for her nearly killing me last week. Why didn't I? Was it kindness to remove Capernica from the guilt of doubling down on one of her best friends? Pragmatism because Kei has a slung bow she can use and thus my argument would be rather moot? Am I simply that much of a control freak that I want Capernica to be angry at me and me alone? Suppose it doesn't matter. Even if I think she's fully responsible for this, I don't want Capernica to die because I'm biased towards her as someone who has given my worst insecurities peace, of someone who deeply cares for her friends and family. This is entirely personal, just as how everyone else here seems to be taking their sides on who or what they stand to believe in, while the rest simply hang back to go with the flow. And going with the flow means that with almost unfortunate certainty, it will be one of them. And I refuse to believe those are the only outcomes left where I will be here tomorrow to see one or both of them in confidence."
Next, Rafe looks across the room to Jun. "Your life isn't worthless by any metric. I have never considered your life worth less than mine or any others, nor do I treat the importance of one so insipidly. I simply stated in pragmatic terms, that as you have admitted, you have less of it to live. Because I refuse to vote for either Capernica or Willow, I will choose to vote for you. It might not make a difference. It might. I won't play on your conscience nor will I call on the others to follow my judgement because I would prefer not having your seneschal come after me for having the freedom of speech. But I encourage you to listen to the way the trial is shifting."
And finally, over to his teammate and the woman standing in front of them. "Kei. Sephirot. Sorano. Whatever you prefer I call you assuming I'm still here to call you that later. Sit down and stop making fools of yourself. Why the fuck do the people I'm actually friends with all decide it's in their best interests to become mortal enemies with each other? Except Aurora, because she's somehow the most normal person here. Also, Kei. Don't ever fucking spontaneously throw me under the bus again like that, or the next time I put you in a chokehold, it will end with you unconscious in the pond and ass up in the air with "I LOVE TOMO" sharpied somewhere you can't reach. You have been warned."
OK BUT THE FACT THAT AKIREN’S ONE WISH WASN’T THAT HE WAS NEVER SUED, WASN’T THAT HIS PARENTS CONTACTED HIM, WASN’T THAT HE WAS NEVER ARRESTED BUT WAS THAT GORO AKECHI--HIS RIVAL, HIS WOULD BE KILLER, THE ONE PERSON THAT REFUSED TO LOSE TO HIM--WAS ALIVE. THAT THAT WAS WHAT MARUKI KNEW WOULD BE HIS WEAKNESS. THAT WILL NEVER NOT FUCK ME UP.
Middle Ground
A Mitsuhide Akechi fanfic - approx. 2200 words. This scene occurs well after the events of the romantic epilogue. Fluff.
First: Mitsuhide and the Maiden
Previous: Bonding
“So . . . separate beds?” Mitsuhide’s wry smile was only a little bitter.
“Yes. I know it’s silly. I’d . . . I’d rather be in there with you.” The chatelaine, soon to be Lady Akechi, looked down, her expression a mixture of shame and defiance.
“It’s fine. I will have you all to myself soon enough. What is a night or two apart?”
She looked up without raising her head, trying to gauge his emotions.
Mitsuhide wasn’t having any of that. He took her chin between his finger and thumb and gently lifted until her gaze met his. “It is fine.” Then he leaned forward to brush a kiss across her cheek. With his lips almost close enough to touch her skin, he added. “Are you so eager to be in my arms again? Do you want to . . . test out the guest room? Or your childhood bed?”
He had the intended effect. She shivered and licked her lips. “You are so bad!”
“You are the one protesting our brief separation.” Mitsuhide pressed another kiss to her cheek and leaned back.
She crossed her arms. “You’re right. It’s just a few nights. But when we get back to the city -” a wicked smile turned her lips up at the corners, promising all sorts of fun.
“So forward, my little mouse. So eager. You make me wish we were home already.”
“That’s the idea.” She turned and threw him a saucy look. “Something to dream about.”
Mitsuhide chuckled. “Good night, little one.” Something to dream about indeed. He watched her hips as she walked down the hall, until she turned into her room and shut the door. She really had no idea what impact she had on him. He wondered if it was his practiced art of hiding his true emotion, or simply that she couldn’t see how beautiful she was. How desirable.
He went into the room and shut the door. It was so strange. The electronic hum of household devices. The cold fluorescent light from the street lamps in his window. Distant traffic sounds blending with barking dogs and strains of music. Mitsuhide felt suddenly very alone and very out of place.
Despite his refusal, the thought of spending one night, much less three, without his little one, felt impossible. A burden too heavy for him to bear. He needed to feel her in his arms, to fall asleep to the sound of her breathing, the beat of her heart. Her warmth grounded him in this strange place.
Mitsuhide gave a dry, soundless laugh. Who was the little mouse now?
Slowly, meditatively, he dressed for bed and lay down. He would embrace this world, different as it was from his own. He had to, because it was the one that gave birth to his beloved. And so, listening to the heartbeat of this small town, the viscous thrum of modern life, he drifted into an uneasy sleep.
Miyake and Sasuke arrived the following day at lunch. They met up at a local restaurant. Youko was friends with the owner and able to borrow a few tables in the back for privacy.
Minoru, the chatelaine’s often grumpy father, seemed to be on his best behavior. Not smiling, but distantly polite to the two newcomers. He thawed a little when his daughter threw her arms around each of the men in greeting.
No one said much as they ate. Youko and Minoru sat beside their daughter on one side of the table, glancing up at her strange friends. Sasuke, Mitsuhide and Miyake sat across from them, looking nervous.
It was Sasuke who finally broke the silence. He cleared his throat. “I understand your daughter told you about our time in the Sengoku. Understandably, you want proof. You have questions. We are here to give you what evidence we can.”
Minoru snorted. “What do you get out of this charade?” He gestured to Mitsuhide. “Is he paying you?”
Miyake looked as if he wanted to speak up, but Sasuke beat him to it. “No. I am here because your daughter is my friend.” He reached into his bag. “I know it isn’t much, but I brought my ninja kit as proof. These - these are smoke pellets. And that is a kunai. This is a sleeping poison, and this -” he went through the items, explaining what they were and how he made them. Detailed descriptions of the tools and materials he had available.
When Sasuke finished, Minoru looked thoughtful.
Youko smiled across as Sasuke. “You seem a very resourceful young man. And you are also the one that discovered these wormholes?”
“Yes ma’am.” Sasuke dipped his head, embarrassed by the compliment.
“It could just be you have a - a fascination with this stuff. Read a lot. Saw some movies,” Minoru said. His gruff voice held more than a hint of doubt. Even he didn’t buy his own explanation.
Sasuke nodded. “I could have. But even that would not yield the encyclopedic knowledge I’ve developed. I would go into greater detail, but I imagine you don’t have the underlying historical education to make use of most of the information I could provide. Unless . . . Are you a history buff?” His voice sounded different at the end, as if this question was important. Light glinted off his glasses, hiding his eyes. The air around him was charged, almost crackling with a sudden and unexpected energy.
“No. I can’t say I am,” Minoru replied.
“Hm, too bad.” The strange tension in the ninja disappeared as suddenly as it came.
Mitsuhide nudged Miyake. The warrior muttered something under his breath and then rolled his shoulders. “Alright, old man. I don’t blame you for doubting us. I’d think I was crazy too, or lying. But what Lady Akechi told you is true. She’s been living with my lord for the last few months. And it’s a good thing too. He smiles a lot more now. Eats too, and sleeps almost like a human.”
“Miyake,” Mitsuhide growled. “That’s not the kind of evidence they need to hear.”
“Sorry, but it’s the truth. And if you don’t mind me saying, well, even if you do, your daughter makes for one hell of a princess. She makes the servants happy to do a good job because she notices the little things. And the guards . . . they’d all die for her, and not just because Lord Akechi demands it. She’s kind and good to all of us. I don’t get to spend time at the castle, but I hear how she remembers birthdays and congratulates newlyweds and -”
Youko laughed, a sound Mitsuhide recognized. Much like his own little one, but matured. More elegance with just the same amount of joy. “It sounds like you have a following,” she smiled at her daughter.
The chatelaine blushed. “I really don’t. He’s exaggerating, mom. Really.”
“He is not,” Mitsuhide chided. “Though I don’t think that’s the kind of proof her father -”
Minoru interrupted, his gruff voice quieting the table. “It’s clear you’ve gotten to know her. My little girl.” He gave her a brief smile. “I am still . . . it’s a lot to take in. This wild story. But she stands by it and there is clearly - something true in it.”
His daughter hugged him. “I knew you’d come around, papa.”
He dislodged himself from her unexpected embrace. “I didn’t say I’m buying the whole story. Just,” he waved his hand, “some of it rings true.”
The tension at their table eased, and conversation began to flow more naturally. Youko and Minoru had a lot of questions, and were finally ready to hear the answers.
***
Kyubei followed Ranmaru through the thick forest undergrowth, barely able to make out the dirt path he led them down. This was supposed to lead to a safe house, one that Kennyo agreed to meet him in. He wished the demon-abbot had a taste for teahouses instead of abandoned forest shacks, but it could be worse.
He could be with Hideyoshi, hunting Motonari across the ports. Kyubei wasn’t afraid of pirates, but being on a boat . . . the constant roll of the ocean waves made him sick as a dog. No matter how many trips he made, he never gained any kind of tolerance for the motion. So this, the dirt and the bugs and the thick air under the trees, was a better deal all around.
“This is it.” Ranmaru stopped just before the path opened on a small clearing. There was a half-rotted shack ahead, once a shrine to some local deity, now fallen into disrepair.
Kyubei was surprised to see he wasn't’ the only one here to speak to the monk. Another familiar figure sat on the wooden steps outside the shrine. “Shingen?”
Takeda grinned up at him, pushing a lock of sweaty hair out of his face. “If it isn’t Mitsuhide’s maid!” He laughed. “Kidding, kidding! I just expected to see the kitsune out here himself.”
“He is otherwise engaged.”
“Is he?” Shingen’s smile was dangerous now. “This wouldn’t have anything to do with our missing ninja, would it?”
“If it does, I’ll send him your head,” Yukimura spoke up from somewhere to Kyubei’s left.
Ranmaru put his hands up, laughing as if this were all so silly. “It’s too early for threats. Come on! Let’s make some tea and relax. The abbot will be here shortly.”
Kyubei turned his head a fraction, just enough to see Yukimura lower his spear. “Tea would be good.” He ignored the younger warrior’s scowl as he followed Ranmaru to the shrine.
He didn’t sit, but stood near Takeda, resting his back against a tree.
Shingen, for his part, pretended to be fully relaxed. It wasn’t quite effective though. His brow held a waxy sheen, his eyes looked sunken and fevered. Worse, his breathing was labored. A rasp, harsh as a winter cough.
Kyubei watched him carefully. This was a bad situation. A dying man had fewer qualms than one that had to live with his decisions. He hadn’t realized Takeda was so bad off though, despite the reports he’d received. The Tiger of the Kai was legend. Not a man to be taken down by sickness. And yet.
“Don’t get any ideas,” Yukimura snapped, coming to stand beside his lord.
Shingen chuckled. “So protective, Yuki.” His laugh turned into a thick, unproductive cough. When he finally got control of himself, he directed his attention to Kyubei. “So. Where did your lord and my ninja go off to? And don’t tell me you don’t know. There’s too much tying their disappearance together. I’d rather not have to kill you today for lying to me.”
Another situation he wished he had his lord’s guidance. What information was safe to pass along, and what plans would the ripples of this conversation affect? Kyubei swallowed. “I suspect they have gone to visit the chatelaine’s home. 500 years in the future.”
Shingen nodded as if this was the answer he expected. “Sasuke asked me if I’d like to visit his hometown. He said - he said they could cure me.”
“And then he left without you.” Yukimura punched the shrine wall, causing the whole building to tremble.
Ranmaru poked his head out. “Hey! Careful or you’ll bring the whole thing down on my head!”
“Sorry,” Yukimura growled.
“If it is any consolation, I don’t believe Lord Akechi or Sarutobi left when they did intentionally. The information my lord left indicates the trip was meant to take place later. He was still . . . putting things in place for his extended absence.”
“That’s bull,” Yukimura grumbled, but he relaxed his grip on the spear.
They had no more time to talk it over as Kennyo’s shadow fell across the clearing. He came out of the trees like a spirit, the rings on his staff clinking. “It appears you found me. Again.”
Shingen grinned. “Well, old friend, I did have to hunt through every abandoned shrine in the province to get to this one.”
Kennyo snorted in disbelief.
“Ranmaru brought me,” Kyubei bowed. “It is a pleasure to see you again.”
“I have little time or patience for guests. Tell me what you want.” Kennyo crossed his arms.
“Your help with the false emperor.” Kyubei didn’t look up from his bow. “We both know Ashikaga is dead. The scribe we set up in his place, or the men around him, have gone astray.”
“I could care less. Let the exiled shogun harass the devil-king. Nobunaga and his pawns can go to hell.” Kennyo’s eyes were dark and full of anger. It radiated from him like heat from a fire.
Shingen shrugged. “Yeah, sure. I hate him too. But it’s not just him getting hit. These idiot daimyos in his retinue are conscripting farmers. Villagers. Innocent folk that should be left out of a power grab.”
The demon abbot’s eyes fell on his old friend. “And you believe this is a worse fate than what the Oda have in store for them?”
“I do.” Shingen’s gaze didn’t waver.
Kennyo’s shoulders shook and it took Kyubei a moment to realize the abbot was laughing. He shook his head. “You always were a fool, Shingen. But fine. I will tell you what I know. I don’t think you can stop what has been set in motion.”
Birthday Boy
AN: He continues to rot my brain, but I am okay with this. Just a quick lil oneshot for Akechi’s birthday <3 I wrote this in like an hour so i'm sorry if it seems rushed or messy hadkjfhkjd. It's definitely not my best work lmao.
Content: Fluff, end game spoilers, pancakes
The ex-detective exhaled softly as he reached the subway station, glad that the day was finally coming to an end. Going to college and doing his best to stay out of the eyes of the public was exhausting work. Thankfully, during his time out of the spotlight, he had managed to evade nearly every paparazzi and journalist that came his way.
Akechi glanced at his phone as he hopped onto the train to Shibuya in order to get home, only for a slight feeling of shock to overcome him for a brief moment. On his screen was your name, with a text message attached. All the message had was an unfamiliar address to what seemed to be a restaurant in Minato City, as well as a reservation time.
Despite the confusion that ran through his veins, you had piqued his interest. He thought it wouldn't hurt to stop by. He needed to eat dinner anyways. Although, he did his best to deny that he was hoping to see you there.
As Akechi approached the restaurant you had mentioned, he wondered if that message had just been a mistake and that you had meant to send it to someone else. However, as he approached the doors, the hostess behind the counter perked up and grabbed a menu.
"Good evening, Akechi-san. Your table is right this way." The hostess chirped as she beckoned for him to follow her.
He did his best to put on a pleasant face and followed along behind her. His confusion only grew as he took a seat at a table for one. He now knew that you definitely had something planned, but he had no idea what.
"Your server will be with you in just a moment." She said to the young man, then walked away to seat some other customers who had entered the building.
Akechi glanced over the menu items, taking a moment to decide on what he wanted before he had to place his order. Although, before he could fully decide on what he wanted, a figure appeared in the corner of his vision. He immediately plastered a smile on his face and turned his head, only to be met by you. He had been expecting you to join him for dinner, not serve him.
"Good evening, Akechi. Have you decided on what you want? Or would you like a few more minutes?" You asked him, a soft smile gracing your face. He could almost feel the smugness rolling off you in waves. You were clearly proud of what you were pulling.
"I haven't yet. Do you have any suggestions?" He responded, smiling up at you in return. The feeling of his smile curling upwards towards his eyes was foreign to him, and yet, it wasn't unpleasant.
"Hmm..." You trailed off as you reached over and opened the menu to point out the items. "I enjoy the chicken tender combo meal. As well as the cheeseburger and fries. I think you might enjoy the T-bone steak." You told him, earning a huff of a laugh in response. You looked over at him and raised an eyebrow, wondering what he found so amusing.
"Still a picky eater I see." He teased, not missing the surprise that flashed across your face.
"Sorry for knowing what I like." You quipped, giving him a playful glare in return. You watched as his smile turned into more of a smirk as you held eye contact.
"Well, I'll take the cheeseburger and fries with a water then. Hold the onions please." He said, closing the menu as you wrote down his order, then handed it to you.
"Sure thing. I'll be back soon with your drink." You told him, giving him one last happy smile before you turned and walked back towards the kitchen. You couldn't believe that he actually came. You had figured that a message like that would catch his attention, but you didn't expect him to actually show up.
As you put in his order, you also put in an order for the deluxe pancake breakfast meal. You knew he hated the word, but you were pretty sure that he still loved the food item. Plus, it was a free meal for his birthday. Could he really complain?
Once the cooks had finished his burger, you quickly took it to him.
"Alright. Here you go." You said as you placed down the plate. "Do you need anything else?" You asked him, tilting your head.
"No. Thank you." He hummed, unable to hold back his smile.
"I hope you enjoy." You responded, giving him another smile as you left to tend to some other tables.
You made sure to keep an eye on him as he ate. You didn't want him to leave before you could give him his dessert.
Finally, he wiped his face with a napkin before placing it on the table next to his plate. Now was the perfect time to bring him his gift.
You sneakily grabbed the plate from the window and approached him from behind quietly, hoping that he wouldn't turn around and ruin your surprise. When you entered his line of sight, a look of shock colored his face as his eyes landed on the small stack of pancakes that were covered in whipped cream and fresh fruit.
"Happy Birthday, Akechi." You said softly, feeling your heart race in your chest as you placed the food in front of him. He looked so conflicted as he stared at it, then slowly raised his eyes to look at you. You could practically see the gears turning in his head as he tried to formulate a response.
After a moment of silence, a genuine smile slid up his pink tinted cheeks as he finally accepted your gift.
"You remembered..." He murmured as he looked back down and picked up a fork.
"Of course I did." You giggled lightly, watching as he began cutting up the fluffy breakfast cakes.
"Are you going to sing to me too?" He asked, smirking up at you.
"I think we'd both rather die than have me sing to you in public." You quipped, earning a laugh in response.
Once he stopped, he took a moment to look at you before he asked his next question.
"Will you join me?" He inquired, looking a little hopeful. It took a second for his words to sink into your brain. This wasn't the outcome you had expected at all.
"I suppose I could take my 15 minute break now." You said as you removed the apron that hung around your waist. Before you took a seat beside him in the small booth, Akechi stood and stole one of the appetizer plates from the table next to his.
He quickly sliced up the pancakes and placed some on the smaller plate, then looked up at you expectantly.
"I can't eat all of this by myself." He said, looking down at you as you sat.
All you did was giggle in response as you stole a knife and fork from that same table so that you could eat with him.
You both stayed quiet as you began eating; just enjoying each others company for the first time in nearly three years. The last time you ate together was the night before you invaded Sae's palace. You all went out to dinner for one final hurrah as a Phantom Thief.
"Thank you." He mumbled, unable to look at you. You didn't miss the sad expression that overcame him as he spoke. "It's been a while since I've spent time with someone like this. I can't remember the last time I celebrated my birthday." He finished, still looking down at his near empty plate.
"Sorry for not messaging you sooner. I planned on doing this last year, but to be honest, I chickened out." You laughed awkwardly, shifting uncomfortably in your seat.
"No need to apologize." Akechi chuckled, finally looking at you with a vulnerability you've never seen from him before. "I... appreciate the fact that you decided to do it at all." He hummed. He had changed a lot since the last time you had spoken with him. You kind of liked these changes.
"L/N-san, your break time is over." Your boss barked, making you jump.
"Oops." You muttered as you stood and retied your apron around your waist. Akechi just laughed as he watched you hustle to get back to work.
"Hypothetically, if I were to come back tomorrow evening for dinner, would you serve me again?" He asked hesitantly, carefully watching your expression.
"Not tomorrow. However, if you hypothetically came back the day after, I would." You told him, watching as one last smile curled up his cheeks as you handed him the bill for his burger.
You waved goodbye to him as he exited the little restaurant and went on his way, relieved beyond belief that that had gone as well as it did. This was surely something you would be gloating about to the Thieves when you got off work. You could easily picture the jealous look on Akira's face.
As Akechi opened his wallet to put away his copy of the receipt, he noticed something written on the back of it. "It was nice to see you again. I've missed you :) -Y/N"
It took all of his willpower to keep himself from smiling like an idiot as he made his way towards the subway station. He knew he would find himself visiting that restaurant again in the near future.
