#also she doesn't seem to have anger issues but she has several 'I will fuck you up' moments
Text
so like. fnaf movie. after night five, all outside observers know is "this 30yo guy with severe anger issues + his 10yo mentally ill sister just walked out of his collapsing workplace with an unconscious, stabbed police officer, saying that someone inside the building tried to kill them but we can't get into the building to check. we went to their house and the aunt who was fighting for custody of the child is dead on the floor. the guy's career counselor is missing, as is his babysitter and her family and apparently they're all dead in the building we can't get into." and like. that all looks suspicious as FUCK however we know that in the few-weeks timeskip both mike and abby seem happy and fine so it's not like mike was arrested or anything. he seems to be more adjusted and is happily talking with her teacher so i doubt he's under stress of interrogation or anything
there's a lot of implications there that mike mighta pulled something but it's all circumstantial evidence at best. i'm sure in jane's autopsy and crime scene evidence they couldn't find any evidence of mike being the one to attack her, esp since it was probably just golden freddy bopping her in the head so they dont even have the weapon, and if she was strangled they'd be able to tell it wasn't by bare hands and they couldnt get prints or anyth. especially if golden freddy is a FULL ghost and thus left no trail.
mike would be smart enough to only tell the cops what they need to know without mentioning ghosts to sound crazy. abby might be more honest with the cops just bc of #autism but they'd be more likely to consider her talking about ghosts and imaginary friends as a child's way of coping, and they cant get anything out of her that would incriminate mike. ADD TO THAT that mike has wounds that are clearly defensive and is SUPER banged up and his wounds would likely match his story way better than evidence of him attacking anyone, AND that there's likely footage and witnesses of him being in the pharmacy and then driving to work (and thus not in the area to attack jane), AND if/when nessie wakes up she'll probably vouch for mike as well, and the cops dont have anything on him
though i DO wonder if they would have records of vanessa patching him up in the police outpost. if they do, that would also back up mike's story as it's 1) far away from the aunt jane crime scene, 2) confirms that he and vanessa were working together, so either she's complicit in Crime™ or his story is accurate and she was helping him save his sister. him going to defend her instead of calling backup is also consistent with his personality of getting triggered and jumping into action around child abduction, esp w/ his sibling in danger
considering what abby would probably say, AND the history of freddy's, it's likely that they would come to the conclusion of is "someone [likely the og kidnapper from the 80s] found out that the guy working at freddy's had a sister, kidnapped abby from her house while her aunt was babysitting and tried to recreate the crimes, his story of him and vanessa defending her and escaping vaguely checks out." whether or not mike would incriminate vanessa by mentioning her dad was the killer is up in the air, and there's obviously some huge holes that are left from nobody believing that there are ghosts in the building but that would probably be the eventual conclusion
but throwing that all away, it would be really, REALLY funny if the rest of the town, being really fuckin nosy and getting into the juiciest gossip they've had in decades, took one look at michael "big teddy bear falling asleep on himself" schmidt and said "there's no way. there's no way this guy murdered his aunt, stabbed an officer and then destroyed his own workplace, especially when he really needed that job and was on sleeping medication," and then turned around to look at abby "neurodivergent in the early 2000s (ableist af time period)" "vocally hates her aunt" "doesn't talk to anyone and claims that she can see ghosts" "vaguely possessive of her brother" "claims that she found the guy who hurt her friends and got him jumped by a cupcake(?)" schmidt and said "oh my god. it was her."
and nobody's gonna directly say anything but they've got cautious eyes on the situation and someone quietly slips mike a copy of the bad seed to see if he has a realization but instead he's just like "hey this book kinda reminds of that golden freddy kid lmao. wonder how he's doin" and then we smashcut to golden freddy kid poking springtrap with a stick

Why not watch Race to the Edge? We have:
Tumblr media
The neurodivergent guy who's just so tired. Threw himself off a cliff once or twice. Likes dragons soooooo much and everyone just rolls with it. His entire life revolves around his hyperfixation (dragons) and it kind of bleeds into everyone elses life.
Tumblr media
The neurodivergent guy's best friend cat. Does not like it when neurodivergent guy puts himself in dangerous situations and frequently sasses him for it. Is often seen batting around balls of paper for fun. Has killed an unfathomable amount of people and will kill again.
Tumblr media
The token girlfriend who wasn't actually a token girlfriend in the show and had an actual personality and hobbies and insecurities and stuff. Has anger issues and will take it out on the twink at the slightest provocation. Probably more worthy of being chief than the chiefs own heir at this point in time. Secretly feminine. The superior version of this character and everyone loves her.
Tumblr media
The twink. Used to be one of the jocks in high school and turned out to be the most flamboyant and feminine of the squad. Wrote a book once. Probably to impress the nerd like he's so gay for the nerd. Loves baby dragons like sooooo much he will cuddle them all day. A little sassypants who pouts and complains a lot. Is not good at following instructions. Will sacrifice life and limb for his friends and almost died for them several times.
Tumblr media
The twink's self insert oc. He larps as a Coachella kid. Once fooled the smartest man in the world into thinking he was actually a Coachella kid. Deep in his heart he is just a misunderstood rich white boy.
Tumblr media
The nerd. Reads books to the point where the universe decided every almost single one of his spotlight episodes would be a parody of a book. He made dragon trading cards once because he's a fucking nerd. Is probably a licensed doctor and if he's not then nobody's noticed yet. Is a total helicopter parent over his fucking dragon who spews lava and has a tail-bludgeon so who knows whats going on in his head.
Tumblr media
The twink made a self insert OC for his boyfriend the nerd and then there were some hypnotism hijinks. I want to see God Complex and Coachella Kid interact so bad.
Tumblr media
The resident drag queen. A scholar, philosopher and fashionista who would do a dramatic reading of Dante's Divine Comedy for fun. Has a pet chicken who he has a... questionable relationship with. Has a mace who he also has a... questionable relationship with. Doesn't know how to do math.
Tumblr media
The resident pyromaniac. Has literally no fear and will actively dare people to kill her. Has not once been killed so it seems to be working. Will be captured and spend her entire time in captivity mercilessly bullying her captors. Could probably make Ryker Grimborn cry. Made Snotlout cry. Way smarter than she looks and is considered the smarter twin which is insane considering Tuffnut is a known genius.
Tumblr media
The incredibly angsty Mary Sue. You either love her or hate her and I love her. Fits every single Mary Sue trope in existence to a T to the point where I feel like it was on purpose. Don't get me wrong though, she's a genuinely compelling character. Emo. I think that she should date Astrid.

Tumblr media
I’m just gonna leave this here bc this left me baffled.
(What does this mean for the timeline viv jfc)
Yeah that's not the same. That's a contextual retcon.
"I can't believe you slept in our bed with an imp! You wanted to go to a motel with him like a plebian?! You're a goddamn embarrassment! I'm not spending another moment looking at your pathetic, imp sucking face!"
Stella mentions nothing about a divorce, she only speaks about Stolas sleeping with someone else (which is weird because she and Stolas don't have a sex life according to the new episode). She makes no indication about a divorce. Stolas himself makes no indication of a divorce.
"You want to sleep with this imp too?!"
"No! of course not!"
What do you mean 'no of course not'? You and Stella haven't slept with each other in what I'd assume years. She doesn't know who Blitzo is; frankly, Stolas doesn't either. Weird choice of words if this character is supposed to have been gay this entire time. Unless there's an odd joke in here about being Blitzo-sexual ..... that's your childhood friend you haven't seen in years bud... I know you're drunk but.... I mean does this make Stolas demisexual?
Also I don't know how things work in hell, but you don't need the other party to agree to a divorce. Granted, it's a lot more work and legal stuff in court to deal with, but you can get a divorce by default through a judge if your partner won't agree to it.
Why would Stolas be so vocal about a divorce all of a sudden if Viv is also trying to claim he only stayed with Stella and kept his bad relationship with her a "secret" from Octavia to give her a "normal life"? Octavia walks in and Stolas doesn't even realize she's there and he's like "good morning, did you sleep well? : D " As though he and Stella haven't just been screaming all morning about what Viv now claims is a divorce. He's not even concerned about the ramifications of his divorce, where he could potentially lose custody over Octavia. He just goes about his day as though everything is "normal", as though nothing happened.
Octavia also wakes up to Stella and Stolas screaming, and immediately gets annoyed and blasts her music, indicating she is used to this occurring, meaning their relationship has been obviously bad to Octavia PRIOR to Stolas sleeping with Blitzo, when Stolas hasn't done anything to actually warrant any anger from Stella.
~
The Timeline is as follows, according to Viv:
-Blitzo sleeps with Stolas and steals his book.
-THE NEXT MORNING, Stolas wakes up, proclaims a divorce with Stella, and then Stella marches up to their house and has a fight with him.
-Stolas then proceeds to call Blitzo to be his bodyguard at Loo Loo Land.
We have several issues here. Loo Loo land is the SECOND time Blitzo and Stolas ever meet after their 20+ years apart. So
A, Why did they act so friendly with each other in Loo Loo Land as though they had been screwing for weeks when they've allegedly only had a one-night stand? B, how on Earth did Stolas know Blitzo's phone number? Blitzo never told him where he worked, and Stolas did no research prior. Blitzo also seems to have Stolas's phone number, since he knows immediately who called him even in episode one prior to their "fucking" deal; which makes no sense. Why did Blitzo have Stolas's phone number prior to him stealing the book? (This indicates they had been fucking for some time before Blitzo had stolen the book, especially since Stolas says "I've been meaning to follow up on our last conversation regarding my Grimoire-, I've been permitting you to use it less than legally for some time now..." Stolas and Blitzo never had a prior conversation about his Grimoire unless they had been fucking several times prior to Blitzo stealing the book!) however, according to season 2, they haven't spoken to each other in 25 years. (which, again, is illogical!!!!) C, in the first episode, Stolas calls Blitzo while he's taking a bath to forge their exchange agreement. When in the hell did he have time between the minuscule timeframe of him waking up from the one-night stand to yelling with Stella, to inviting Octavia to Loo Loo Land with him? There IS no time. And Because of the episode release, Stolas makes that deal with Blitzo in episode one, meaning the one-night stand and Loo Loo Land happens AFTER episode one??? But that is simply not possible. Would Viv try to claim that episode two is actually a PREQUEL to episode one?! This is a mess!
This was definitely not planned from the beginning; it is a retcon & messy timeline that Viv is either embarrassed she forgot (or never properly established in the first place), or she just changed her mind about the story and is trying to cover it up.
It's not a huge deal I guess, but her defending this and trying to twist this around to being something it's not is a bit concerning. A lot of authors like to lie about "this was my plan all along!"
The truth is they either made a mistake or changed their mind. It's like JK Rowling saying "Hermione can be black because her skin color was never stated" when no, her skin color was clearly stated, she was a white girl. The reality of the situation is JK Rowling wrote a book about a bunch of white kids, and because fans were disappointed in the lack of diversity, they latched onto Hermione and race bent her for fun and to relate to her better.
Rowling saw what fans were doing, and to try and get diversity points, she made it so Hermione and Rose were black in the Cursed Child play. Diversity is great, inclusion is great, but lying about this being the case "all along" is not great. Just say "I saw the black community was attached to Hermione and I thought, why not? Harry Potter could use more POC." or simply "Black Hermione is great! The actors do such a great job with her character." Fans wouldn't have been frustrated with her if she had told the truth!
Obviously, this situation isn't the exact same, but it's just concerning when you start to see a writer lie instead of admitting they made a mistake or simply changed their mind and wanted to retcon something to better fit their narrative (and hey, if she wanted to do that, then fine! But at least be truthful and let fans know!); because they can start to spiral and lie about more things in the future, making their word untrustworthy. I've unfortunately had experience with people like this.
I've worked with writer liars before. They lie about far more than just writing, I'll tell ya that. Things can get real bad and real messy when you start not only lying to fans of a project, but to your fellow coworkers about things as well.
Viv has already had a lot of allegations against her, (some false, but some proven) so if she turns out to be a liar on top of that, it won't exactly be surprising. But it's really disappointing. She was supposed to be a mascot indie animation studio for future generations. But she's gone half corporate herself, plays favoritism, doesn't support indie voice actors that attracted everyone to her project to begin with; prefers famous EXPENSIVE broadway actors instead, and may not even work for Hazbin Hotel anymore. It's really sad. Indie animators are in way over their heads than I think they realize.

Ok so serious ask au this time I feel like Jotaro definitely would not get married and settle down in the vampire Jotaro au. Maybe his brain also doesn't age (along with the trauma of becoming a vampire) so he's stuck in his teenage angst. He tries hard to feel normal so he does go and become a marine biologist but he never gets married, never has jolyne, and is overall still very angry. He won't mellow out as quick
-ffa
you're sort of correct, with some bits at least
(also just to make things easier, I'm going to be calling Jolyne's mom Marina)
Jolyne was actually brought up in this AU a while back, and while Jotaro doesn't get married, Jolyne does still exist. However, he has no idea she does. He had a....... not quite a one night stand with Marina(who was an exchange student), but they met one night, hung out for a couple weeks, Did The Thing, then Jotaro had a bit of a mental breakdown of self loathing and stopped coming to see her. It wasn't until she got back to America at which she realized she was pregnant, and because Jotaro never gave her any information about his family name or where he lived, with her limited resources she wasn't able to find him again
Jotaro has no idea he has a daughter, and honestly when he does learn about her existence? He feels unbelievably shitty about not having been there for her. That because of his selfish reckless actions, Jolyne had to grow up without a father and without knowing what she was. He also feels bad about leaving Marina to take this burden blind (not Jolyne, she could never be a burden, but Marina had nothing to work off of when it came to raising a half vampire) and decides he's going to do everything he can to make up for his absence by helping any way he can
Jolyne's childhood is...... a bit weird honestly. Sure there's the fact Marina was trying to figure out how to be a single mother but also there's her trying to figure out the whole vampire thing. Seeing Jolyne grow up with all her little quirks combined with certain traits she'd noticed of Jotaro's makes the pieces come together rather quickly, and suddenly Jotaro's apprehension toward getting close makes a LOT more sense. She's still pretty upset he ghosted her like that, but at least there's some semblance of an explanation
raising Jolyne was a lot of trial and error. Most "information" about vampires was completely off the mark. Jolyne doesn't have any issue with religious items, garlic, or silver, she can't turn into a bat or fly, or really any of the other extensive rules and traits of vampires. Honestly the only things that seemed to line up were Jolyne being a bit more sensitive in the sun, her preferring under cooked or raw red meats, healing a bit faster than normal, and some increased physical abilities
Marina did her best though, and in the end the result was Jolyne being a good person who has several healthy alternates of dealing with her abilities and is looking forward to a long, healthy life :D
unfortunately for her, Pucci fucks that up and she doesn't even know there's anything crazy going on behind the scenes until Jotaro shows up to break her out
As for the thing with Jotaro's whole mental/emotional development....... while he's still angry, in terms of lashing out at people that stops almost immediately. Instead he ends up isolating himself even more than in canon. His pure terror of hurting people far outweighs his anger, and he sees the best way to avoid that as not letting them close to begin with
Several years down the line this does gradually get better, mostly thanks to his family's help, and by the time 2011 rolls around he's much more adjusted and comfortable with his vampirism. There's still a SHIT TON of baggage he still has to work through, but he's not disgusted with himself and what he is anymore so that's a plus

Secretkeeper's abuse of Moonwatcher
Your friendly neighbourhood survivor is back to rag on Wings of Fire's shitty relationship with abuse again.
Wings of Fire has written plenty of intentionally abusive relationships, perpetrators, and victims, none of which are very good. The word "intentionally" is there for a reason: this will be about how Tui accidentally wrote one of her main characters to be a victim of severe mental and emotional abuse from her mother.
I will clarify here that just because the abuse is completely unintentional on the author's behalf does not mean it's not there. And just because an individual isn't intentionally antagonistic, violent, or manipulative does not mean they aren't or can't be abusive. The situation between Secretkeeper and Moonwatcher literally fits the description of parental abuse, this is something I'm not going to take criticism on because that's factual.
Content warnings: general abuse, child abuse, mental illness (mainly anxiety), swearing/coarse language
Okay, now onto the rant. Under the
Parentification
Yes, this is partially about how Secretkeeper would leave her child alone for hours at a time.
Moonwatcher would spend much of her time isolated from all other dragons and have to learn to take care of her own needs, since she was a literal baby no less. That's a form of parentification; not what the term is usually used for (mostly for instances where a child is made to parent other children) but a situation where the child is essentially forced to parent themselves, which is still deeply psychologically damaging.
I will mostly let Secretkeeper off for this since as far as she was concerned there we no other options (keep your child on the volcano of a thousand health issues where they'll be half-starved and breathing in smoke every day for their entire childhood, or leave them alone for much of the day just so they can eat and breathe freely) - and it's not like she could've asked the RainWings, the people her people were exploiting, those she didn't know anything about, for help - but whether or not she tried her best is irrelevant to whether that makes it abuse.
So far, she still looks like a sympathetic mother. This will not last, I can assure you.
The... Other Shit
How Secretkeeper handled discovering Moonwatcher's abilities is, suffice to say, unhealthy and inconsiderate at best.
My main concern here is not the mandatory child abandonment but this shit, the later shit. You can probably already identify my anger and I'm not even directly discussing it yet.
It's one thing to literally and intentionally traumatize the shit out of your literal newborn baby in an impulsive, spur-of-the-moment decision because you can't immediately think of any other way to keep them safe, but continuing this gaslighting of "you're in danger, everyone wants to hurt you and if they find out they will abandon you" is not acceptable.
I know Secretkeeper didn't have many options, and it seems like this comes from a level of insecurity in her own self and how she doesn't feel she'll be accepted after what she's done, but pushing that onto Moon and spending Moon's entire childhood gaslighting her into thinking "other dragons = danger, telling the truth about yourself = danger, avoiding others and keeping secrets = safety", them being a species that is not only very social but reliant on community to even live decently healthy lives, is one of the worst fucking options you could go for.
And I KNOW, for fuck sake, that Moonwatcher's winglet did react negatively to discovering she had powers that she never told them about, but also Glory's abusers turned out to be totally correct about their racially insensitive stereotypes towards her tribe, so maybe that doesn't fucking matter and it's just the author doing this shit for the sake of drama rather than Secretkeeper's abusive decisions being in any way justifiable or correct, and by extension Tui just being an abuse apologist who doesn't realize the consequences of her actions or even when she's writing an aggressively abusive character completely unintentionally. I'm only mentioning this fact because I saw someone use it in an arguement before.
And what really pisses me off is not only Secretkeeper's genuine surprise that she caused extreme social and general anxiety in Moonwatcher, y'know, the child she constantly told was in danger of everyone and could never let alone know her secret or risk getting harmed in some way, but the fact she was extremely quickly to invalidate it and make it all the more worse.
Not only did she manipulate this child into being afraid of everyone or even getting too close to others, a child that had become insecurely attached to her because she had no other caretaker's other than essentially her own fucking self, a child who developed an extreme mental illness because of her shitty and confuddled parenting, but then she decided to abandon this child. She left Moonwatcher alone, without her, somewhere she'd never been before with people she didn't know and had been taught her own life would hate her or be out to get her. That would be fucking torture.
I honestly hate Secretkeeper after thinking about all this.
You're trying to tell me she had no other possible options but to - very intentionally - traumatize her child for six years, drop her into what she was groomed into thinking was a deathly dangerous situation, and think it was okay??? She doesn't even tell her child to dismiss the whole "everyone will always hate you" retoric, like did she think Moonwatcher would just get over it on her own or that she needed to continue believing that but also be in close contact with a variety of different people she was made to think would spurn her?
I can't wrap my head around this logic. It drives me mad. Either she doesn't actually give a shit about her child's feelings and damaged mental state (because of her, need I remind you) and/or the danger she could be putting her daughter in, or she's genuinely one of the most stupid, foolish, ignorant characters to possibly exist in this franchise. Fucking Blaze looks smarter than Secretkeeper, and Blaze is intentionally written to be as air-headed as possible to the point where she's an over-the-top caricature of an individual.
Great fucking parenting, ten out of ten.
The Issues with this
The issue with writing an accidental problematic thing is that it was never intended to be that way, hence won't be perceived that way by the author, hence will be totally condoned and allowed.
So we have an accidental abuse situation between a clueless, inconsiderate, emotionally unintelligent mother and a severely anxious, mentally unwell child that's just... portrayed as acceptable. As if it's okay, that there's nothing wrong in the first place and Secretkeeper it totally justified. The absolute horror of the situation goes completely unaddressed.
Though in truth, if this were intentionally an abuse situation it wouldn't be addressed a heck of a lot better considering this franchise's history of abuse apologism; at best Moonwatcher would sympathize with Secretkeeper even after the years of psychological damage, at worst if would actively justify her decisions.
So anyway, Secretkeeper is my probably second least-favourite character in the entire series now. My first is still Kestrel; no one is taking her spot.
The moral of the story is that just because you don't intend to do harm doesn't mean you can't do harm regardless, that emotional abuse is never an acceptable thing, and that the writing in this franchise is Not Good.

Yes yes yes!!!! Even in the movies, the whole “at least he’s not on fire!” “What’s left of him isn’t on fire!” scene to me felt very much like a friendly/familial bickering, they weren’t being rude or mean to each other, they were both a little shocked at the state of everything and that’s how they communicate
They!!Are!!Friends!!And!!Love!!Each!!Other!!
Yes, exactly! Even when they're bickering, they're both very visibly enjoying themselves. Poe's barely restraining the urge to smile, you can see it in his eyes, and Rey doesn't even try to stop herself from smiling when she whips out the "you're difficult". Poe's also smiling when he approaches her, even as he starts being sarcastic??? Like...they like each other, they just bicker as a love language?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like these are not the expressions of two people who hate each other. They're exasperated by each other right now, sure, but the banter is so familiar for them by this point that they're also enjoying it underneath the frustration.
It also irks me (but just goes to show how frankly astoundingly little the fandom actually pays attention to these characters/can't read them) because we know what Poe and Rey look like when they're interacting with characters they hate/cannot stand...and that energy is not here?
by contrast, think of poe's expression uh. any time he's dealing with the first order, or his anger with holdo when he believes she's just leading them to their deaths. think of rey's absolute fury at teedo or legitimately any interaction with ren (barring the five minutes she gave him the benefit of the doubt and he instead chose to be the one true dick) - Rey does not minimize her anger or frustration with people. She sure as hell doesn't smile smugly at people she hates and can't stand, she's a feral little sand gremlin and if she doesn't like you, you're gonna fucking know it.
And altho their banter/bickering match does deteriorate into a genuine argument, let's see what else happens here shall we? Poe puts his two cents in ("you're the best fighter we have, we need you. out there, not here") and walks away before it can get any worse, allowing them to cool off. And Rey is visibly okay with this, she doesn't look worried when Poe walks off, instead she just has that "fuck my friend rightfully called me out on my shit that I don't want to unpack yet" look. Like, Rey is the queen of abandonment issues - after knowing Finn for a day, him leaving in tfa was enough to hurtle her into a traumatic flashback turned Force vision; and there's no doubt the throne room made that worse.
And look, I'm also the queen of abandonment issues, it's one reason why I relate so heavily to Rey. Which is why Rey's lack of a reaction to Poe walking away strikes me so profoundly: because Rey isn't afraid he won't come back. It takes a seriously deep level of friendship to achieve that. I experience that with my qpps 99% of the time, and that other 1% is when my anxiety is really awful but even underneath that I know they won't leave me. Rey seems as confident in Poe not leaving her as a friend, as I am my committed platonic life partners. Let that sink in for a minute.
which is just another point for me for my qpp jedistormpilot hc tyvm
What happens after that, is that when Rey decides to leave to find the wayfinder, she isn't surprised when Poe shows up to (as far as she knows, tho we know he and finn were planning on going) say goodbye, and immediately makes sure they're on good terms before she leaves, just in case.
Tumblr media
Poe also checks in on her before they leave because he notices she's acting strangely/drinking in the scenery like she won't see it again, and promptly spends...a lot of the movie worrying about her?
Tumblr media
He grounds her several times in the novelization(s).......but is also one of the reasons Rey snaps in the desert with Ren and the transport. In the junior novelization (iirc), she thinks about all the horrible things Ren has done to her and her friends, and one of the things she thinks before she loses control is how he tortured Poe. And then (I can't remember in which novelization) it's Poe's voice who snaps her out of her shell-shocked daze following the transport blowing up. In the regular one, he also gently tells her in the ship to go take a minute and he'll take care of the flying so she can just....have a breather and process what happened and doesn't hold what happened against her in the least (which we also see in the movie).
And BONUS points he trusts her instinctively aboard the Steadfast when she gets a Force feeling (I think the line in the novel is something like "when she got that look, a fellow knew he ought just to follow"? Or it may have been another scene I can't remember). Like.....they're friends. I don't know how much more explicit the movie could have made it, unless folks wanted them sharing a secret handshake or wanted them to briefly pause the movie to add a powerpoint presentation text above their heads going "they're friends". They bicker and they argue and they get exasperated with each other, especially over their similarities (because Rey is a lot like Poe), but they genuinely love and care for one another, and to be quite honest saying otherwise is a huge fucking disservice to how much Daisy and Oscar put into crafting their dynamic.

Oh no wait I figured out why the "Jinx has psychosis" shit makes me so annoyed. It's the decision to take a person's trauma responses and how that trauma has changed them as a person (being untrusting, being angry, being easily triggered or emotionally unstable, being dependent on the memories of dead friends and seemingly dead-siblings, becoming Odd & unruly) and making those feelings and experiences out to be psychosis, AKA a disconnect from reality, an inability to respond to what's real, insanity, craziness, etc. And it's not that grief and pain can't feel world-ending--OBVIOUSLY it can be--but experiencing a lot of grief and pain and getting fucked up because of it doesn't have to mean you get your experiences and feelings demeaned by the assumption that you're now unable to tell what's real or not.
Also just like--come on let's use some differential diagnosis here. Psychosis is like bipolar is like schizophrenia in that it commonly has its first episode in early adulthood but not really in children, frequently thought to have genetic basis but can also be prompted by say, a real bad experience with drugs from which you never quite recover (this is just a random example, stuff like postpartum psychosis or psychosis to hormonal changes is also another Thing.) Psychosis is also episodic, unlike, say, C-PTSD which is much more long-lasting. Psychosis is also something best treated with, say, medications, not a plot relevant interaction with your lost sister, old friends, or current caretaker, i.e. if you experience psychological relief after a great conversation or murder or something, perhaps therapy, your issue isn't gonna be psychosis, it's PTSD! Also have you actually witnessed or observed the psychotic? I mean this reverently and with love, but--they've got a lot worse stuff going on for them than what Jinx has got going on, she's infinitely more mentally intact than what actual psychosis does to a person. Consider the following common symptoms: everyday thoughts may be confused and jumbled and don't join up properly; sentences may be unclear or not make sense; thoughts are sped up or come very slowly; having odd ideas; difficulty doing things like following a conversation or remembering details; shifts in basic personality; severe changes in sleep patterns; excessive writing without meaning; unusual sensitivity to stimuli; mood changes; feeling strange and cut off from the world; feelings of distrust or suspicion about others and their actions; false beliefs such as being followed or monitored or having special abilities or powers, thinking they are being controlled by other people or forces or that their thoughts are being broadcast so others can hear them (these beliefs are held firmly and attempts at reasoning or debating can lead to anger or mistrust.) AKA the person in the emergency room who thinks they're a President, a lawyer, and a doctor and their wife is cheating on them right now (this patient isn't married) is NOT the same as a person's C-PTSD and family issues. One is actual psychosis, the other is not! And conflating the two is not helpful!
I've gone through the "is this psychosis or some other mental health issue" already in my lifetime, I witness more people suffering from psychosis on a day to day basis due to working in healthcare, I've got the C-PTSD, I've got the dissociative voices fun stuff, and Jinx does not line up with what psychosis really is, at least not beyond what honestly seems more an artistic depiction of internal struggle as opposed to real hallucinations. I just hate incorrect labeling in that I hate the spread of misinformation and the ways it leads people to understand even less about these conditions, particularly when it builds up an expectation that a condition is much more mild than it is really is or Not So Weird when it actually, sincerely is (I say this with love.) On god the existence of shitty, incorrect "representation" is not more important than accuracy and realism, especially for stuff like mental illness which already gets misconstrued to hell and back. You want characters with diverse mental health conditions? I want people to start knowing what they're talking about before they throw already badly misused terms around.

But anyway, the au is pretty simple. In the au, Lila fucking died in a car crash, which resulted in Skid being traumatized. He lived with Jaune for a few days, and Pump then came to see Skid after a bit. Not wanting to worry Pump, Skid tried to repress his emotions and act like he was fine. But Pump misinterpreted this as him not even caring that Lila was dead. Pump, out of his own misunderstanding, snapped at Skid, which resulted in an argument between the two. Pump stormed out of the house, and took off his mask, saying he didn't want to be Skids friend anymore. This kinda gave them both their own separate issues. Skid got sent to an orphanage after a few days.
Flash foward to 11 years later, Skid is now 19 and is dealing with a lot of shit due to what happened with his mom. His therapist recommends that in order to confront his trauma, it's probably best if he goes back to his town, so he does. But whenever he does, he reunites with a bunch of people, and that includes a now 18 year old Pump. But Pump seems.. different now. In a way, you could say Pump is like Kevin and Roy when it comes to his personality?? Well, he's like Kevin, but just a plain dickhead. Skid, distraught by his friends sudden change, is understandably in shock now. But old faces keep returning, and he keeps bumping into Pump repeatedly, which leads to familiar faces being confused as shit as to what happened between them and trying to fix their lost friendship.
Now for personalities, though I only have Skid and Pump and Susie so far
Skid is soft-spoken, polite, and kind-hearted in this au. But he is intimidated easily, and is very anxious, and has a bit of trouble standing up for himself. He also has internalized anger issues since he tends to repress it, he is a bit of a coward at times, and he apologizes a lot more than he should. He has low self esteem too. His favorite music tends to be shit like Cavetown and stuff. He no longer celebrates spooky month since it reminds him of Pump, but he still keeps his skeleton costume with him to feel like his mother is still there. He still likes candy, though he's a little less intense about it. He has no job, but is currently looking for one. Skid has issues with repressing his emotions, especially his anger. And he has slight anxiety when it comes to making other people feel upset, for he begins to apologize frantically as if afraid they'll leave him anytime he upsets someone.
Pump is confident, unafraid to speak his mind, and very sassy in this au. He works as a coffee shop barista. He can come across as a little rude sometimes, and tends to jump to conclusions pretty easily, and he is not afraid to resort to violence if he might have to. He has severe anger issues, abandonment issues, and has a lack of trust for those around him except for Susie. The reason why he is the way he is is not revealed til later in the story. But he is like this because of his toxic friends that he made after Skid fucking left. He doesn't even know his friends are pieces of shit, and the reason he's so angry all the time is because he never gets to express his anger toward them. It isn't healthy, but Pump doesn't know this. He also secretly still has a soft spot for Skid deep down, and is actually pretty protective of him. But he tries to act like he doesn't either way. He's basically forcing himself to move on from the argument. Pump is also very physically strong, but when it comes to Skid, he never really hurts him. Even if he has a distaste for Skid—if Skid were to ever engage in physicat combat with him for some reason, the least he'd do would be to just restrain him or just to avoid hurting him as much as possible.
Susie is in this au also. She works and studies for demonology. She is about the same in this au, although she's a little bit less snarky than she used to be. She is very wealthy, and is actually doing pretty alright. She is currently still living with her brother, and is well aware of his anger issues. Susie still has issues because of her parents neglect though, and any sign of perceived abandonment or someone ignoring her will make her very anxious. She also still likes to draw demons in her spare time.
Oooooo
Aww, the poor guys :<

ok your tomshiv love language post interests me so much because i think shiv does know that physical affection is the primary way tom shows support which is why she tolerates it. but she also thinks showing her love is a weakness (and is very bad at it when she tries) and so on some level doesn't want tom to know how much she cares about him because that would be exposing a vulnerability. it haunts me that her go-to for trying to express emotional support in s3e6 is sex, and she's baffled by tom's rejection, because i think to some extent that may be the only kind of physical affection she's comfortable with. sorry for dumping this text wall in your askbox the failmarriage makes my brain start smoking
First of all you NEVER need to apologize for dumping a wall of text in my askbox, especially if it's about TomShiv. I'm literally obsessed with them. I've always loved media that depicts fucked up failmarriages, but there's something about TomShiv that's so... real? And it's also complicated. Every time I try to write meta about TomShiv I realize that there's a whole angle that I somehow forgot to incorporate.
Also - ming you're literally one of my FAVOURITE tom bloggers so like. You could walk into my house and sit down on the couch and I would be pretty cool with it. I’ve had a tumblr crush on you since I joined this fandom.  You are welcome in my ask box any time!!
ANYWAYS
The reason it took me four (?) days to answer this is that you're definitely right, and I've spent the last several days chewing on it. (Also I’m bad at time management and work has been crazy, but that’s neither here nor there). I'm also haunted by 3x06, but also by TomShiv sex in general? Not in a horny way, more in the sense of... We see Shiv initiate sex 4 times over the course of the show, and three of those are in direct response to her upsetting Tom (their wedding night, in 2x02 when she tells him Logan's offered her the CEO position, and 3x06). The fourth one is Chiantishire, and even though that one's not about Tom, she's still not initiating sex out of a desire to be with Tom, so much as out of anger over her conversation with her mother. Also, she then tells Tom she doesn't love him, so even though she didn't start the sex in response to her upsetting him she did still upset him. She just kind of reversed the order on that one.
(There is a fifth time which is on the yacht, but once Tom opts out of the threesome she doesn't want to have sex anymore, even though he clearly does, so I don't really count that).
Meanwhile when Tom tries to initiate sex he's always rebuffed, and there is an implication in 1x03 that they aren't having sex very much (when he tells her vagina that he misses it). It's possible that their libidos are just out of sync, but the fact that she does initiate sex with other people - Nate and the actor - seem to imply that isn't the case.
I think there are two options here, both of which are plausible, and both options are also not mutually exclusive. The first is that Shiv simply isn’t attracted to Tom; that there’s a dichotomy between the kind of personality she finds attractive (someone more Logan-esque) and the kind of personality she feels safe with (someone utterly unlike Logan). So she marries Tom because she likes him and feels safe with him, but isn’t actually attracted to him.
Option two is that her reluctance to have sex with Tom is rooted in her fear of intimacy. She has a greater emotional intimacy with Tom than she does with Nate or some rando (even if they aren’t as close as Tom would like), so in some way sex with them feels safer.
Which - circling back to the question of love languages - raises the issue of: if Shiv is uncomfortable with or afraid of intimacy, how does this impact how she expresses love? I think sometimes there’s a phenomenon where people who are uncomfortable with intimacy gravitate towards love languages that feel less intimate because they’re safer. And that can vary from person to person, because often your natural love language is the one that feels most intimate to you. And that’s a big part of why it’s actually really hard to ascertain the roy kids love languages, because they’re so rarely being emotionally honest or vulnerable.
I do think it’s unlikely that Shiv’s love language is physical affection, but it is SO INTERESTING that she initiates sex as a way of trying to soothe Tom or manage his emotions, and also that, even with her reluctance to have sex, she seems more comfortable with that than with publicly expressed physical affection. Maybe it’s because sex is inherently more private? Because she does also seem far more accepting of physical affection when it’s just the two of them, such as after the proposal or when she makes the deal in 3x05. Or maybe it’s because soothing Tom when he’s upset feels less vulnerable than accepting his physical affections when they’re simply offered as a gesture of love. (Because the more I think about it - she does sometimes offer physical affection when he’s upset, even if it isn’t sex, such as after the dinner with Roman and Tabitha, or the conversation before their wedding night, or when Tom tells her he’s terrified of going to prison. But she pretty well never initiates it outside of that). If he’s upset and she’s comforting him, she probably feels that she has the power in that situation, whereas if he’s simply trying to demonstrate that he loves her, accepting that implies some kind of dependency on his love, which is inherently vulnerable.
Plus, on top of the general love = vulnerability sentiments that I think are pretty common to people uncomfortable with intimacy, the Roy family has also instilled a particular sentiment of “love is dangerous”. It’s weakness and that’s frowned upon, but on top of that, there is a very real danger that if you love someone more than they love you, that they’ll take advantage of that. The Roys are always playing this game of “I love you - but”, or “I love you so long as x”, and that’s what Shiv has grown up knowing. I think that’s why even before Tom has done anything to betray her trust, she’s not able to fully open up to him. Even though he hasn’t yet given her a reason not to trust him, that “love = danger” sentiment runs so deep. So she needs to put enough distance between her and Tom that she can feel safe, while trying not to push him so far that he leaves or withdraws his affection, and one of the ways she does that is by reserving these expressions of physical affection for those moments where she’s maybe pushed him a bit too far.
Also this is only tangentially relevant but we’re talking about TomShiv and it’s an idea that haunts me: Shiv has NEVER experienced unconditional love prior to Tom. It’s not something the Roy family does. [I know that you can definitely debate whether or not Tom loves Shiv unconditionally; I do think that he does, even though he’s also keenly aware of the ways in which his relationship with Shiv benefits him and obviously is status-obsessed enough to want to maximize those benefits.] So, I think there’s a part of her that is inherently distrustful of Tom appearing to love her unconditionally, and which also contributes to her putting more distance between them; and that eventually becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, because that increasing distance - and the instability to Tom’s role in the company and family - is what causes him to essentially prove her right in the season 3 finale. At the same time, I think she still recognizes Tom’s love as more unconditional than her family’s, which is why she prioritizes Logan over Tom. As awful as it is, it actually does make sense - Tom is likely to be there for her no matter what, whereas this is absolutely not the case with Logan and her brothers.

Just once before the end of the series, I would like to see Mitsuki genuinely and openly express her worry for Katsuki.
Like I don't doubt that she does love him, I don't doubt that she worries about him. I don't think she's wholly abusive- certainly not in the scale that the Todoroki's are, but like... this woman, her fucking CHILD was KIDNAPPED by GROWN ASS ADULTS, and the only canon response we have is her
Smacking him
Upside the head
And calling
Him
Weak
And like what the FUCK?
Every time I think about it, it fills me with rage. Like, I don't doubt Mitsuki and Masaru are sappy in love and all that gooey bullshit, but whenever I see Mitsuki and Katsuki in the same room I want to shake her and call her a fucking bitch.
I don't doubt that she loves her son in her own way, but like... at the same time I do??
Katsuki, no doubt, probably has a lot of issues from her being so shit at intimacy- I mean like their mirrored behaviors are enough to give a good grasp- but the change from "boosting his ego"-
Or you know, also known as prasing your child like a good parent
To suddenly trying to knock him down?
Like full stop that shit is crippling, and quite literally makes everything WORSE.
And Masaru, bless his heart, is complicit the whole fucking time. He does nothing!
If it were just him and Mitsuki, like, they'd be a game, perfectly fine, whatever, but the moment you bring a child (namely Katsuki) into the situation, they fall the fuck apart. Mitsuki and Masaru are so used to understanding each other's subtle languages that I guess it probably becomes a default to them, but Katsuki DOESN'T get those languages- and we can clearly see how it's effected him.
I'm just like... weirdly pissed off that the most we really see of Mitsuki is her causally slapping her child and blaming his "weakness" despite the crippling inadequacy of UA's adults, like...
I don't think I WANT to know her reaction to what happened during the Sludge Villain Incident???
How she reacted to her son being tied up??
Like not to assume the worst, but with what we have of her character, she would probably claim that he "deserved it" which is really gross and shitty.
Katsuki's childhood homelife is certainly nowhere near as bad as Shouto's (but like bruh there's always going to be someone who has it worse... that's not really a good argument), but from what we've seen, his mother's behavior is super damaging in several ways like...
Y'all really expect this kid to accept his weakness when his own mother yells at him for being caught off guard- because he was! It wasn't even a fight!
Katsuki got kidnapped at the negligence of UA staff and his fucking mother blamed HIM- and we see that train of thought lead DIRECTLY to Kacchan Versus Deku two where Katsuki literally has a breakdown, and he copes with it in the only way he knows how which is anger and violence!
Like!!
If THAT is his mother showing her worry, no wonder he turned out so fucked up!
Even if, yes, she's only trying to be strong in front of him, it is still really not okay for her to INSULT him on top of casually hitting him-
You know like, I want to assume the best of her. I don't doubt that she spoiled Katsuki /financially/ at the very least, but being financially open while emotionally distant- from experience- it really fucks you up, my guy.
Not to mention, it's not always completely tangible or memorable, but the moment a parent goes from praising their child to belittling them? The constant expectation of more and more and more- better and better?
Always intentionally or unintentionally trying to chase and earn that praise again? Only to never find it?
It seems like everything you CAN do is "to be expected" it's "natural talent" it's "obvious," but your failures? Those are your own.
Then it become this damaging dance of either you're the best, and that's natural- or you're the worst and it's all your fault. Your hard work doesn't mean shit. You could pour your entire soul into something, but if the results are sub-par, you're a major failure.
It becomes not being able to accept your own talents (often while simultaneously trying to show them off, because yeah most emotionally neglected kids- and people overall- still end up attempting to reach out and close the emotional gap even if they don't openly admit it)- and we do get to see this from Katsuki, specifically during his win at the Sports Festival. Despite his opening statement being "I'm going to win," the moment he was faced with said win, he claimed it "didn't count" and he tried to reject that. ((And then the amazing fucking adults in his life completely neglected his emotional state yet AGAIN and said hahahaha take the medal, be happy- on top of tying up a child who had poor previous exposure to being restrained in front of a crowd- which directly led to him being targeted and kidnapped, again at the negligence of grown ass adults))
Even worse if you add in insults, and like I'm not saying that "casual violence" is the same as full on abusing a child, but it DEFINITELY creates a tangible rift that allows for less and less trust to get in.
But the honest betrayal it feels knowing that nothing will ever be good enough, but even the slightest of failures will be punished- it's fucked up!
I say this both growing up as an emotionally neglected and distant gifted child, as well as witnessing this from others. Like, I saw a girl on the verge of tears- she was CRYING because she had a B in one of her AP (Advanced Placement) classes. These were just about college level courses, and this was- I think eleventh grade? Max- and she was crying because she had a B. In one of her, like FIVE, COLLEGE LEVEL COURSES. Not even a C or a D- for fucks sake, I was failing the AP class we were in together! I bombed that shit, but I was already pretty much completely separated from my family emotionally at that point. Like they didn't even check up on me. I think I spent all of eleventh grade home alone, without talking to anyone in my family for any more than a few hours a night if that.
Anyways, uh, all of the adults in Bakugou's life are fucking incompetent, and it makes me angry to think about that.
You can't expect an emotionally neglected child to be mature when handling their feelings when they've never properly been taught how.
And while, yes, that one scene with Mitsuki and Katsuki is not the whole picture, but it was added for a purpose to show a little bit of what Katsuki deals with mentally.
I doubt it's going to happen, but like I was thinking about this peice I saw of fanart shortly after the War Arc where Mitsuki went to visit Katsuki in the hospital. It was a really pretty peice, really well drawn, but it made me so... uncomfortable in a way that I couldn't name, and looking back now because it decided to randomly hit me- it's because I don't think Mitsuki has ever shown that level of care to Katsuki- at least not since he was younger. (Although, we can't even entirely say that, because the youngest Katsuki we see is a bully, and then he grows into an emotionally distant middle schooler, until like finally- after two near death experiences, a shit ton of insults, and a whole ass breakdown, we see ONE adult reach out to emotionally comfort Bakugou. (Don't get me wrong it is still incredibly important that Aizawa stood up for Bakugou during his match against Uraraka, but it still stands that he received an overwhelming amount of negative feedback throughout those months- on top of being in a completely different environment compared to middle school.
Anyways, it's kind of fucked up that we haven't seen Mitsuki genuinely worried about her child- even without Katsuki on the screen (like the kid's still fucking traumatized that wouldn't change, but it would be nice to actually see her physically worried about her child and not smacking him around and calling him weak), and I doubt it will happen- but it would be really nice to see Mitsuki or Masaru genuinely comfort the child that they neglected- accidentally or not.
#not to be that guy but it kind of bothers me when people point out the parallels between Ba/ku/De/ku and MitsuMasa#because like#don't get me wrong it's technically (technically as in it was confirmed in an extra comic) canon that Mitsuki and Masaru do love each other#and are like gross about it lmao#Mitsuki says that she pretty much fell in love with Masaru at first sight and did everything she could to make him hers#and Masaru looks back with fondness saying that he really couldn't reject her#but the way they fucking parent their child makes me want to yell#also Katsuki is not nearly as pushy as his mother is- he shies away from emotional intimacy (I wonder why) and keeps everyone at a distance#the one doing the 'persuing' between the two of them is Izuku- which is literally a huge factor as to why Katsuki bullied him to begin with#because he couldn't process the genuine affection that Midoriya offered him and how he would follow Bakugou even despite being pushed away#but also Midoriya is not that much of a fucking doormat#I love Masaru and I don't doubt that he loves his wife but that man is a Door Mat to the max and it's fine if that's him with his wife#but his inability to step in is not good for a child and I don't doubt that his passivity has had a negative effect in Katsuki#while there are similarities it feels xP to comapre the two especially when they emotionally neglected one of the children in the parallel#anyways Katsuki has severe issues due to his mother's shit intimacy but I at least think he deserves to know that she cares about him#I would like to see it#but like only in canon because like I said seeing it in fanworks makes me uncomfy#I keep accidentally defaulting to last names ugh#but I don't even want to fix it.

danny phantom 14-20 thoughts!! I finished up s1 :D these last few eps were actually really really good!!!
-did. did tucker really just say esperanto was a dead language only spoken as a secret code between geeks. google says around 100,000 people actively speak it. oh my god...it being an auxiliary language doesn't mean its 'just for geeks to speak in code' ...it helps bridge gaps between people who don't have a language in common...
-danny really isn't pulling punches when it comes to fighting the ghost-cop possessed people huh. like he SLAMMED KWAN INTO THE CONCRETE SO HARD. HE THREW PAULINA INTO A BILLBOARD. will that...I mean it WOULD carry over to their bodies non-possessed, right? like if the ghost piloting their bodies gets hurt?? itd be so upsetting to be possessed, lose time, then wake up covered in bruises (and possibly, broken bones??) real horror movie stuff im sure wont be addressed in any way
-tuckers parents seem nice! I like them :)
-WULF IS CUTE AND I FEEL BAD. im so glad the gang realized he was only causing trouble bc of the shock collar walker put on him and helped. also, him wearing that big hoodie with the hood on, and thinking its subtle. we can tell youre still a giant wolfie :) THEN GETTING SUCKED INTO THE PORTAL AAAAH :( anxiously waiting to see Him Again....
-DANNY BLASTING HIS PARENTS THINKING THEY WERE OVERSHADOWED LMFAO GET THEIR ASSES. maddie marking how many ghosts she gets with lipstick tallies on the side of her portal gun? kindaaa iconic tho. (ALSO, SHE WAS LIKE, 2 FT AWAY FROM HIM RIGHT AFTER SHE TRIED TO SHOOT HIM. HOW DO YOU NOT RECONINZE YOUR OWN SON??? like sure, he might have diff hair/eye colors. but like, if one of my family members dyed their hair, and was wearing contacts, its not like id be like 'wHO IS THIS STRANGER!!!' ...he still has all his facial features!! same everything!!! I hate it here)
-paulina being #1 girl realizing danny's a friendly ghost immediately. smart queen. lancer and kwan ran away right after he made this sweet baby face at them:
Tumblr media
which is hilarious.
-ok. im not saying his bullying is JUSTIFIED, but. dash looked so pleased with the (cute!) poster he just painted, and danny comes thru the wall and spills paint on his nice letterman jacket. his anger is justified maybe 65% of the time so far...(not the way he handles it, but STILL.) at least lancer is stepping in!! and them making a silly little bet was...cute?? until dash pulled out his GROSS UNDERWEAR AND SAID DANNY WOULD HAVE TO EAT THEM???? WHAT THE FUCK MAN. TUCKER WAS SO RIGHT ITS FUCKING WEIRD TO CARRY THOSE AROUND EWWW. THIS KID IS UNWELL. lancer was right, his animatronic setup was SUPER IMPRESSIVE?? hes actually pretty creative. danny meanwhile is stealing the fright knight's design...I hope dash is taking art classes or smth with his sports
-fright knight is the most bestest ghost so far i LOVE THAT DESIGN. I am biased towards knights, and characters with swords, but he fucks so severely. and should sue danny for copyright infringement for stealing his design for his haunted house. if some 14 yr old broke into MY house and stole MY sword, id also be pissed. his evil winged unicorn rules too with its FANGS. and he just CAN SHOVE THE PORTAL OPEN WITH HIS HANDS??? is he the strongest ghost weve seen so far? idk but hes my fav. SOUL SHREDDER IS SUCH A COOL SWORD NAME TOO. ANY NAMED SWORD ALSO FUCKS. 'flaming bedsheets of DEATH' funny king. ALSO he was polite to dash and tucker when just asking for directions and telling tucker 'oh maybe, just a suggestion, maybe be nicer to me and be more respectful :)' I LOOOVE HIM.
-I noticed this in the Ember ep, but jazz has an electric guitar in her room!! talent musical queen!! its cool to see hobbies just in the bg.
-fright knight's murder castle reminds me of the booby trapped murder castle in zexal!! another supposedly 'for kids' show with murder/trap castles! we love that. if you are a dp fan reading this, give yugioh zexal a try. its also got 13-14 year old protags and involves (alien) ghosts. the cardgame is just a vessel for the plot, which is really good. (I just want more people to watch my fav yugioh, man)
-danny. with a SWORD.
-danny doesnt NEED TO WIN this contest, dash didnt STEAL HIS DESIGNS AND STEAL A SWORD. he also got excited to hear lancer got sent to a dimension with his worst fears too just so he could win the contest? DANNY WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!! BRO MAYBE YOURE 14 AND HAVENT FULLY DEVOLPED YOUR WHOLE BRAIN YET, BUT...THATS FUCKED. this kid casually says the most deranged things, I do worry for my spooky son. once again, therapy needed. that judo toss was great tho. I wonder if he actually did pick up some martial arts stuff from his mom?
-danny can fly 112 mph!!! thats so fast! I love the lil montage of him and his friends testing his abilities and stuff, very cute and a good way to showcase what he can do by now and how much more proficient he's gotten from ep 1!!! I'm sure he's going to get more abilities :)
-im glad...maddie's at least TRYING this ep. I do feel for her because her husband is a man baby. but the fact it took 16 episodes to get a kinda semblance of any kind of real concern or attempts at bonding. hmm. jack's 'BACK OFF SHES A MINOR' @ the ghost trying to attack jazz. also was very funny. and him wanting to make an action figure of her? are the parents redeeming themselves to me? slightly. they gotta Work Harder
-THE GHOST. IS FLYING. THE PLANE.
-fenton machete. but she doesnt carry a PHONE??? ???
-I mean I expected vlad when you namedrop him earlier in the ep, and also the title card picture, and dalv corp being fucking vlad backwards. but seeing him just pull up on a golf cart made me bust out laughing. WITH the gift baskets prepared. why wouldnt you at least be suspicious. also, if he wants danny to be his lil sonboy, why is he so fucking malicious?? dude you are going about this in such a bad way. stop it. get some help.
-maddie not even hesitating to drag danny out. fucking good. danny is so right, go on the internet to date. get a cat. how do you spend...how many years?? has it been since college?? at least 20, right, since the parents/vlad are in their 40s? hung up on ONE girl. my god, man. incel drama queen. her kung fu IS impressive, but dude. 'we both know hes a creep' SO right. it sucks but they do need a phone and shit being in the middle of NOWHERE. also, just stealing his helicopter was great. <3
-'you must be exhausted carrying the weight of that mistake you made years ago' 'well we all make mistakes. maybe I'll make one now!' WHY DID THIS EXHCHANGE SEND ME. AND VLAD WITH THE BREATH SPRAY EWWW BITCH. 'OLD BAIT BREATH' SOO RIGHT. both danny and his mom playing him HAHAH hes so dumb. or rather, I think he thinks with his emotions too too much and is...actually pretty gullible? lmao he believed danny was ready to give in SO fast. (which is sad hes that hopeful, like you have SO MUCH MONEY YOU COULD EASILY GET ANOTHER GIRL WHO HAS A KID. AND WOULD WANT TO BE WITH YOU AND BE SUPPORTED. GET OVER THIS (1) WOMAN ALREADY IM GETTING SECONDHAND EMBARRASSMENT AAAAH)
-GHOST BEAR GHOST BEAR GHOST BEAR. it was also in the title card, but I still got very excited. we love bears here
-SAM'S BAT SWIMSUIT COVERUP!!! her outfits are simply iconic.
-'i'd tell you to go to the mens room, but I don't think you qualify' top paulina transphobic moments. :( and him wearing a tanktop to the swim park? hmmm! (actually I think she was overshadowed by then, so, KITTY top 10 transphobic moments??)
-kitty just piloting paulina around makes me feel SO bad tho, paulina's gonna wake up and be like 'wtf do you mean I was dating this rando' like youre leading danny on to make johnny jealous, and also just POSSESSING POOR PAULINA. dude take your relationship problems ELSEWHERE. last time we saw them, they seemed like such a cute couple!! wtf johnny!! I mean, she sucks for trying to make him jealous, he sucks for looking at other girls...maybe they need a break, but Not Like This. or, you know, just. better communication...
-and the A-listers having a full packet and a stamp system. who organizes this. kwan fucking owning being the new danny though, this is hysterical. THE TUCKER/KWAN FLOWER FIELD TWIRL. UNIRONICALLY ADORABLE. and him giving it his all for the poetry slam. bless his HEARTTTT.
-Star owns. actually, all of the extra characters are shining this ep and I love it.
-INVISO-BILL??? NOOOO THEY DID HIM SOO DIRTY. DANNY SWEETIE IM SO SORRY.
-johnny and danny bein friends and staging a fake fight (which danny takes too seriously, once again this child has aggression he NEEDS TO WORK OUT) I hope these three stay friends, I said it before but danny needs more friendly ghosts to hang with.
-at this point, Danny's ghost enemies are a lot like, I dunno, batman's rouge gallery is the first thing that comes to mind. they all have their own gimmick and unique designs, but most of them are easy to beat after learning the Moral Lesson. I still get excited when any of them show up again, though. 18 is another valerie episode!!!! :D skulker really said you two will get along if I have to handcuff you together <3 and the gym teacher really said, youre married now, have a flour baby! ngl, I'm not really watching this show for the shipping stuff (which I am very scared to look at the fandom for after I finish this watch through- I feel like there's probably discourse/arguing about ships...) but. I'm gonna put my opinion out there. valerie/danny > sam/danny. maybe I just really love the enemies to lovers trope. And the secret identity stuff adds Extra Flavor.
-SKULKER JUST HAVING THE BOX GHOST AND DANGLING HIM BY A STRING. HILARIOUS. and him watching them with binoculars and making his silly little commentary. AND MAKING THE SACK BABY CRY. LMAO. THIS DUDE IS A BABY KIDNAPPER. skulker is super fun
-danny, you just...collapsed the water tower. and then attacked the nasty burger machine...mascot thingy...out of anger..I KEEP SAYING HE'S GOT ANGER ISSUES BUT. HE REALLY NEEDS A LESSON IN MANAGING COLLATERAL DAMAGE!!! So does valerie!! They're both pretty focused on each other. I mean it's good of Danny to say he's trying to make sure PEOPLE don't get hurt, but... (I mean I guess it's not something 14 year olds WOULD worry about, but as an adult im like, who's going to fix that? how much money will that take??)
-TUCKER MAKING BANK. and sam and tucker being super emotionally attached to their flour baby and being pretty good parents. that's cute...also him just straight kissing her and being like. WAIT. O_O JDSKAFHD. his mom baking them into cookies was the funniest possible result. tbh I dont feel like this is on tucker, if anything the other kid's shouldve been more responsible! He was just taking an opportunity to get that $$ which I respect
-Danny being more understanding of Valerie's situation in the end (helping her at her job, too, and trying to keep that a secret for her!!!) And seeing them work together this ep, and also her letting phantom get her out of the ghost zone...was very sweet. LOVE that. more valerie eps pls
-me when I realize vlad's big stupid house exploded because of his own carelessness with changing the ghost portal ectofiltrator or whatever: *pointing and laughing*
-me when I realize it means he's gonna go make danny's life hell for it somehow: >:(
Tumblr media
-SCOOBY PARODY!!! I feel like there's gotta be some scooby doo/danny phantom crossover stuff, right? also, 'guys in white' men in black wishes
-'oh, that's right! dad married the love of your life! you're bitter and alone!' DANNNNNYY GET HIS ASS ONCE AGAIN WE ARE POINTING AND LAUGHING AT VLAD
-'jack, you captured the ghost boy!!' UMM. he did nothing <3 'we have a weapon's vault??' YOU HAVE A WEAPONS VAULT??? and jack didnt put a handle on the inside. of fucking course he didnt! why would you leave that to your son!! or expect him to clean YOUR LAB when its where you work with probably dangerous chemicals and weapons and hes 14!! give him normal chores, like, I dunno, vacuuming, laundry, dishes...CMON. I hate it here. But I'm glad Jack is more chill about danny while he's a ghost, and willing to work with him for this ep. AND. I DID ENJOY JACK PUNCHING VLAD IN THE FACE. AND GENERALLY JUST OWNING HIM. the ghost punchy fists are actually amazing. like yeah, just punch a ghost in the face. that rules.
Tumblr media
-ep 20 opens with the coolest fucking ghost lady design. her tattoos can come off and fight. MA'AM. I like ur nose ring and your cape maam hello 👉👈😳
-sam's grandma is hilarious and the most valid member of her family and I love her. thats my grandma now. and tucker covering for sam by dressing as her. thats true friendship <3 also skipping school to go to a goth circus. just bestie things! sam's parents are haters but for all the wrong reasons.
-'my family has controlled ghosts with this for generations!' WAIT. WAIT FREAKSHOW /ISNT/ A GHOST? I didn't expect that...he's just a fucked up guy controlling ghosts? anyway watching danny shoot at police cars and rob banks while mind controlled. its like, the most stereotypical 'bad' things lmao. (tbh an evil ghost circus troupe is a sick concept)
Tumblr media
this gives off big deviantart emo edit vibes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I'm going to assume evil circus reaper danny has a lot of fan content. people love an edgy au, except this one is canon (even tho its via mind control...having the protag go evil otherwise might be hard, I guess?) but au where he stays with the troupe...that has to exist, right?)
ANYWAY. excited to start s2!! lowkey surprised by how many notes some of these posts have gotten. I've gone back and tagged them all with 'dp thoughts' so they're easier to find on my blog! ^^ and I will probably possibly do (more) fanart on my art blog after I finish the watch of the whole show, so like. @sanchoyodraws follow my art blog :)

I finished it yay! Probably not the best but whatever, I kept losing focus when writing this. Tho I'm glad I finished it regardless, enjoy.
@avalonmoonshinesstuff
also it's a few minutes after 12 so happy late birthday @snapewrld
Red, that was all Lily saw when James spoke. Everything happened so fast you'd have missed it if you blinked.
No one noticed Lily raise her arm and form a fist in the midst of James attempting to ask her out and no one noticed the clear look of seething anger in her eye. It was only after Lily's fist had collided with James's face along with hearing a horrible cracking noise did they notice how angry Lily was.
Yet for some reason James nor his other friends seemed to understand why she did what she did. They all stood there in shock as James stumbled to the ground while holding his nose. There was blood running down his face and he was confused on what just happened.
"What the hell?! What was that for!!?" James shouted out as he stood up. Lily glared at him and was ready to deliver another punch "Are you kidding me?! You're seriously asking me why the bloody hell I punched you! Are you that fucking ignorant!!" She shouted out, it took everything in her power and will not to kill James right then and there.
"Listen to me Potter, I want you to stay the bloody hell away from me and from Severus. The same goes for your pathetic friends, I want nothing to do with any of you arrogant pricks" Lily stated and stormed off. She needed to go to a quiet place and calm down before she did something irrational.
As she was thinking about where to go she didn't notice the person she bumped into. 'Great...' she thought, she let out a snarl and was ready to say something but was stunned into silence when she realized who it was she bumped into. "Oh...Severus" She spoke softly her anger seeming to fade at the sight of her best friend. Severus gave her a smile "Hi Lils, have you got your heads in the clouds again?" He asked which caused Lily to laugh.
She smiled "Yeah, yeah I do. Sorry about bumping into you" Severus let out a soft chuckle "It's alright, I'm heading to the library do you wanna come along?" Lily nodded and together the two made their way to the library.
Once at the library the pair sat somewhere near the back. "Hey Lils, is everything alright? you seemed annoyed when we ran into eachother earlier?" Severus asked with deep concern. For some reason he felt like he had done something wrong but wasn't sure what. Lily let out a sigh and rested her head on the table "No everything is not alright, Potter and his stupid friends pissed me off. Potter tried to blackmail me, he said if I go out with that he'll leave you alone and I felt so goddamn sick hearing him say that" She explained and tears began to form, it was still hard for her to believe that that had actually happened.
"He kept talking most of it was insulting stuff about you and somewhere along the way I ended up punching him in the face. Everything he said pissed me off so much, I'm almost certain I broke his nose." She added and let out a forced chuckle. Severus pulled her into a hug and she clung to him for dear life "Don't worry Lily, they'll get what's coming to them" He spoke.
After several minutes they both pulled away and where soon interrupted by Professor McGonagall. "Sorry to disturb you kids but Miss Evans the headmaster wishes to see you right away" She stated sternly, Lily looked over at Severus who gave her a reassuring smile. She looked back at McGonagall and nodded before standing up and following her to Dumbledore's office.
When they have arrived she was greeted by Dumbledore and she was also greeted by James Potter. Seeing him there made her blood boil and she felt like tackling him to ground and punch him or to just simply hex him. Tho instead she took a deep breath and sat in the other empty chair in front of his desk.
"Headmaster you wanted to see me" Lily said as calmly as she could.
"Ah yes miss Evans, I have something to discuss with you along with Mister Potter here. It has come to my attention that you miss Evans punched mister Potter which resulted in him having a broken nose. Would you care to explain why that is?"
Lily clenched at the hem of her skirt and forced herself to smile "Well Headmaster, I did what I did because Potter here decided to try and blackmail me by using the safety of my best friend Severus Snape. Someone who he seems to go after a lot, I would have simply said no but it's seems that Potter only hears what he wants to hear because he keeps coming back to ruin my day as well as ruin the day of my best friend and everyone else in this school along with his friends" She stated through gritted teeth 'I hope to Merlin this is over soon or else I'm going to explode' she thought to herself 'Don't worry Lils, soon the Headmaster will punish Potter and all will be well' she added and waited patiently for Dumbledore's response.
It felt like hours before Dumbledore spoke again "Well, well this is very problematic but I must say that there were other ways to solve the issues miss Evans instead of using physical violence" He stated calmly like always. Lily frowned, she'll admit she could have done something other then to punch Potter but she was too blinded by anger that she didn't think rationally at the moment.
"You're right headmaster and I apologize" Lily spoke and looked down at her lap. Dumbledore nodded "Good, now for your punishment, miss Evans you are to have detention with Mister Filch for a month" He explained which caused Lily to gasp, she opened her mouth to argue but Dumbledore held up a hand to silence her.
Lily looked back down at lap and waited for Dumbledore to continue. "Mister Potter you will also receive detention but with Professor Slughorn for two weeks" He stated "And 50 house points will be taken from both of you" He added. Once Dumbledore spoke those words Lily quickly stood up which resulted in knocking back her chair.
"I'M SORRY WHAT?! WHY DO I GET DETENTION WITH MISTER FILCH AND POTTER GETS PROFESSOR SLUGHORN!? THIS ISN'T EVEN A PUNISHMENT FOR HIM!!! SLUGHORN ISN'T EVEN A COMPETENT TEACHER!!!! IF YOU AREN'T USEFUL OR RICH HE DOESN'T SPARE A SECOND GLANCE AT YOU!! POTTER HERE ATTEMPTED TO BLACKMAIL ME INTO A DATE WITH HIM AND HE SIMOLY GETS DETENTION WITH SLUGHORN WHO DOESN'T DO CRAP! OH BUT BECAUSE I PUNCH POTTER IN ORDER TO PROTECT MYSELF I GET DETENTION WITH MISTER FILCH, SOMEONE WHO ADORES GIVING OUT PUNISHMENTS!!!" Lily shouted out in anger, if Dumbledore wasn't the headmaster she'd have punched him the same way she punched Potter.
"BUT NOT ONLY EVER SENSE ME AND SEVERUS CAME TO THIS DAMN SCHOOL HOPING TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE WONDERS OF MAGIC! POTTER AND HIS STUPID FRIENDS HAVE DONE NOTHING BUT STALK, HARASS, AND ATTACK US! WE CAN'T TAKE ONE STEP WITHOUT EITHER ONE OF THEM RUINING OUR DAY!!! AND YOU ALONG WITH EVERY OTHER ADULT IN THIS SCHOOL HAS DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT IT EXCEPT PUNISH ME AND SEVERUS WHEN ITS CLEAR WE'RE THE VICTIMS!!! WHAT KIND OF HEADMASTER ARE YOU THAT WOULD THIS TO CONTINUE!? ARE YOU BIASED OR SOMETHING!? MY GOD YOU SHOULDN'T BE OUR HEADMASTER NOR SHOULD POTTER AND HIS FRIENDS BE ALLOWED IN THIS BLOODY SCHOOL!!!!" She added. Once she was done speaking she took several breathes to calm herself down. Lily crossed her arms and glared at Dumbledore who looked extremely surprised at her outburst.
Dumbledore opened his mouth to speak but was stopped by Minerva giving him an intense glare of her own. "Miss Evans is correct, it seems that anytime Mister Potter and his friends break the rules you turn a blind eye to it" She explained and crossed her arms.
After several more minutes speaking, well more like arguing, did Dumbledore provide a punishment suitable for Potter and his friends. Tho sadly neither would be expelled this was enough for Lily cause atleast not if they ever tried anything again she could simply go to Professor McGonagall who for now on will handle any punishment given to the Marauders.
Lily walked down the halls feeling a little better then before. Minerva had gotten Dumbledore to lower her punishment so now she wasn't allowed to attend Hogsmeade and she'd have a week's detention with Professor Flitwick. Not only that but Potter was given detention with Mister Filch for the remainder of the school year plus he and Sirius were both removed from the quidditch team even tho it pained Minerva to do so it had to be done. Sirius, Peter, and Remus will also be given detention with Mister Filch for the rest of the year and they all will not be allowed to attend Hogsmeade ever again.
Lily couldn't help but smile "Oh I can't wait to tell Sev the good news" She said to herself. She had stopped by the library but it seems that Severus had left. Next she went to the Slytherin's room and after some threats were exchanged a roommate of Severus's told her that he hadn't returned. She let out a huff and frowned "Where on earth could that boy be?" She muttered. Lily continued her search for her best friend, after a few minutes she heard some faint shouting.
She quickly began running to the source of the shouting and saw a sight that made her blood absolutely boil. There right in front of her were the Marauders tossings hex after hex to the very person she calls her best friend, Severus. Lily quickly pulled out her wand quickly casted the expelliarmus spell to expel the Marauder's wands.
The boys in question turned around in shock, anger, and confusion only to come face to face with a very pissed off Lily. She stepped towards them wand still pointed at them "I told you to stay away from him.......I TOLD YOU IGNORANT AND ARROGANT BASTARDS TO STAY THE BLOODY HELL AWAY FROM HIM!!!!!" She shouted out and casted the knock back jinx.
The jinx hit James and she quickly casted it again while aiming for Sirius. Both Peter and Remus stood there practically frozen, well that was because when Lily casted the first knockback jinx it had given Severus enough time to grab his wand and cast the stunning spell on them both. Lily turned her attention to them both and decided not to cast the jinx on them, instead she rushed over to help Severus up off the ground.
"I'm taking you to Madam Pomfrey's" She said but Severus shook his head "Don't, just take me back to the slytherin common room" Lily opened her mouth to protest but Severus held up a hand the same way Dumbledore did to stop her. "Please Lily, just listen to me, just this once" He spoke and Lily simply nodded.
The pair quickly made their way to the Slytherin common room. Once they reached the entrance Severus spoke the password and soon the common room was revealed to them both. They quickly went inside and Lily guided Severus towards the long couch. She carefully sat him down "Sev are you sure you shouldn't go see Madam Pomfrey?" She asked in concern. Severus simply shock his head "I'm sure, Lily I need you walk up the stairs leading to the boys dorm, the seventh door is my room. When you reach it ask for Rosier, he has blonde hair, just tell him it's the marauders and that's it" He said softly.
Lily nodded and did what she was told, she ran up the stairs when she reached the top she began counting the rooms "One, two, three..." she mumbled to herself. Once she reached the 7th room she hastily knocked on the door. A few seconds later the door opened and she came face to face with the very person Severus had asked her to speak too, Evan Rosier. 'Just tell him it's the marauder's and that's it' she thought "Severus, the marauders" She spoke out and as quick as she spoke the door slammed shut.
She stood there confused and upset "Hey!" she shouted out and began banging on the door. A few minutes later the door swung open, Rosier stepped out of the room with a bag in his hand "Follow" was all he said as he made his way downstairs. Lily quickly followed him, once they reached the bottom she watched as Rosier made his way towards Severus. He knelt down in front of him and opened up the bag he had. Rosier began pulling out several potion and made Severus drink them.
Once he was done doing that he picked up the bag and exited the common room. Lily walked over to Severus "Don't worry Lils, he gave me some healing potions I made myself" He said and leaned his head on her shoulder.
"Where is he going?"
"I'm not sure but I know it's best not to question it"

tua s1 rewatch!
1x03: | last year's deeper dive
0:00
so. 'extra ordinary' is once more a clear ref to vanya and her book, which this episode opens on. thematically this episode is about vanya and her rejection by the family.
0:31
i love how the first season pays homage to the comics with the in-universe issues drawn in ba's style.
also: worldbuilding oop. there's a cordless phone in that pawn shop, which means tua exists in a world where cordless phones should be several years old and standard.
Tumblr media
0:50
constant: vanya always writes the book.
variable: in the show, vanya's book is a self-help book about her. in the comics, it's a cutthroat tell-all about them.
i think both are interesting. it shows that show-vanya tried to move on, but the family are so self-obsessed that they won't let her and quite literally take her one act of self-declaration (a book all about her and her coming into her own) and make it about them (saying "you spilled OUR secrets" as if it was her goal). and that comic-vanya decided to drag the family down with her into her pain.
and both have their perks and downsides: show-vanya's anger is toned down, but she gets to make the apocalypse the one time it's all unleashed, and comics-vanya doesn't get to try to move on before being unallowed to, but it's a clearer foreshadowing of things to come.
it'd be interesting to see what future adaptations do here. both work. i wonder which is going to endure.
1:25
haha remember when we learned how diego literally holds grudges for years and never lets a single slight go? good thing lila's just ~so special~ that she's somehow immune to it when she tries to kill his fucking family.
1:40
and constant: five always reads her book in the apocalypse.
2:20
vanya being a professional violinist, as mentioned previously, is an interesting take on the character-- and i love that she's disliked by the orchestra.
in the pilot script, vanya auditions for the orchestra and is rejected. it seems it was decided it'd be better to help the audience understand she's a violinist by having her just be a member of it.
i also love how the characters are rehearsing vanya's apocalypse suite. it makes the moment it's in its full glory so much stronger-- because we've heard it build.
also, massive missed opportunity to make leonard the conductor. maybe next time.
4:30
the 'let's put mom down plot' is another casualty of the runtime. its just another thing to drag things out for a few more episodes, and just another excuse to stop information being told to the audience. it works for the show, but it's something we can absolutely afford to lose.
4:40
i just noticed that allison has a little tic where she plays with things when she's holding something back. she did it with a piece of jasper in dad's study in the pilot when talking to luther, she does it in the kitchen with a fork.
5:00
man. 'later that night, in his bedroom, did you go and see him?' has a different meaning now.
also tying tua back to the gothic... the constant throughlines of all the female characters being ignored, marginalized or suspected as dangerous for transgressing is a big indicator of that. but that's of course assuming this was intentional and not writer sexism, which s2 ofc calls into question.
6:00
the cops being on the trail of hazel and cha-cha is a carryover from the comics, just from the dallas arc. diego trailing after them is as well.
i'm now getting the sense that the show also had the dept store fight to make sure they all have something to do in this episode.
and when it comes to Good Cop Eudora... man. can't wait for that to inexplicably not matter anymore when it's time to kill her.
7:55
knowing that vanya's queer now i do see what a lot of people were reaching for here. we can read this moment as vanya trying to flirt, though there are a dozen other interpretations that also work. it could be friendliness, it could be professional envy. it could be all three in one.
regardless i still think that shipping vanya with her bully just isn't for me. you do you though.
9:30
property brothers exists in tua-verse.
also i like the commission as a shitty corporate overlord. it makes them a much more compelling antagonist.
real sexy of the show to decide to lick the boot when they become netflix's pet.
12:20
yeah again. this is all filler. i'm realizing how much of the early episodes are just here to pad out the runtime. the detours are fun enough in the moment, but looking at it from a more efficient eye... honestly, this whole episode, save the ending, could be cut and we'd be better for it.
13:48
in the comics, we don't actually know if allison rumored claire. i imagine she would, but don't know if she did.
i think given the show has to go more in-depth, we do need that answer. and that the answer makes sense, but i also hate how the show downplays and excuses it. allison brainwashed a child for years. we really need to go into why she felt like she had to, and what effect that had.
it's a big misstep to have allison be repentant this early on. we needed to see her deny, deny, deny, so the moment she finally owns up to how much her rumor ruined lives really stings.
15:34
funny how ppl forget how vanya was the one who initiated things with leonard by seeking his shop out for no reason other than wanting to see him.
18:55
variable: allison is a world-famous actress in the show (and the pilot script), but she isn't one in the comics. as far as we know she's a housewife.
variable: she lives in the city in the comics, not los angeles. klaus is the one who goes to los angeles and rubs elbows with superstars in the comics.
i like the change. i think its a more effective way to communicate how famous the family was, how hungry for love and attention allison is, and how vain she is in actual execution and not in a few scattered comments.
and again, allison being a star of romantic comedies in particular: she wants to live in a world where she can pretend like she's loved.
plus, it builds allison up as a symbol of everything vanya wants to be, and makes the rumor betrayal sting more because the woman who has everything vanya wants (wealth, glamour, attention, fame, the freedom to make art, the love of everyone) made it so she can never have that (ooof). she wants fame and fortune and a piece of the pie. it's why she wrote the book, and it still failed. allison has it all and doesn't even want it. wonderful evolution.
23:20
oh hey, clever crisp cereal is one of reginald's inventions from the comics. fun to see it here. i know season 2 totally abandoned the alternate universe in favor of pop song references and 'our politics are now the same as the real world's!' but the story is dependent on being set in an alternate universe. it's gotta come back in future versions of the story.
Tumblr media
23:30
hagnes is a show-exclusive. almost certainly another way of stalling for time, by giving both hazel and agnes more to do, whereas in the comics she's a bit character and he's a psychopath who scars her for life.
and they're cute! they're fun!
i actually think giving hazel and cha-cha a conflict in their relationship makes them more compelling, as in the comics they're basically the same character because they have a single personality. if we're going to spend an entire season with them, they need to be dynamic.
28:00
i like how the 'lets put mom down' debate foreshadows the one they have about vanya. very smart.
i find it interesting how the factions mirror how the comic characters mostly treat vanya at the end: luther and allison are game to kill her, ben would if he could, klaus is on board with it too (lets be real: he only votes spare her because he wants to get under luther's skin), and diego ultimately can't do it.
and i like how it all hangs on what five will choose.
hm. indeed. wish the writers remembered that.
30:35
constant: the kids transition from fighting in their school uniforms to specialized costumes.
variable: what the costumes look like.
in the comics, everyone has their own specialized look with a logo all their own. in the show, it's all utilitarian and the same.
this was probably done for budget and live action restrictions-- these costumes can't be done in live action without looking too goofy for their own good. plus, i like that they're all samey-- it's another sort of uniform. it makes sense that they wouldn't be personalized. plus, it hammers in that black is the family color motif, which is important.
in that sense, i rather like the change. maybe other versions of the story will follow suit. i hope so.
also, fun fact: the kids' uniforms were based off diana rigg's costume in the avengers!
Tumblr media
the suits are very 2000s-x-men, which probably also took insp from that catsuit. and i love it specifically because in the comics, the team was active in the late 1960s, so the show taking a style cue from then is a great reference.
33:30
i really have no clue where diego's stutter came from. it's not in the comics, it doesn't really seem to show up unless the plot needs it to... hm. it works for the show, but idk if we need to keep it in other versions.
and diego's closeness with mom is all show. in the comics he could give a rat's ass about her. probably changed to make him more likeable, and i love the change. i love how the show (accidentally) made diego a big metaphor for toxic masculinity, and clearly shows us who he could've been if he'd been allowed to lean into his kinder side instead of suppress it.
Tumblr media
"you don't even have a room to sleep in" -- fun fact, she was supposed to but the budget didn't cover it. great cover for it!
and variable: in the comics, mom freely admits that reginald is a bad man and that she resents him. in the show, she isn't there yet. i like this as long as we see her grow into it. (she'd better grow into it)
39:50
luther and allison having a rooftop chat about his time on the moon in the comics feels like it's also here in the attic chat. feels like the attic is the adaptation of the roof.
(and sidenote: endlessly interesting how the glamorous girly-girl's special place in the house is a dusty, run-down, out-of-the-way attic)
Tumblr media
42:00
constant: the academy always responds to an attack.
variable: the attack, its location, and the attackers.
in the comics, it's at the carnival, and the terminauts are blowing it up. in the show, they fight hazel and cha-cha when they're attacked at home.
clearly for budget reasons but i like it better. it's more personal, it's more grounded, and it means we never see the academy assembled until it's time to fight vanya. it's a stronger image of a divided family scrambling to keep things together.
and in the comics, klaus takes an active role in the fight, whereas in the show, he's totally disconnected from it.
this is probably to get him in position to be kidnapped-- because that's a comics constant too. clever of the show to combine these two events.
Tumblr media
(also, you can see when emmy switches to a ponytail for her fight scenes)
and side note: someone turn a damn light on. christ. i hate the trend of 'turn off all the lights to hide the bad vfx and stuntwork.' so much of this show is really poorly lit and the fight here is the apex of it.
43:40
constant: vanya always runs into the middle of an academy fight, and gets herself hurt.
variable: in the comics, she runs intentionally into the fight attempting to help, whereas in the show she stumbles onto it and then just cowers in a corner. i hate that change. give our girl her agency back. she did a brave, stupid thing and it's too important to take away.
Tumblr media
its ridiculous that the comic that came out fifteen years before the show gives its female characters more depth and control over their actions. wack.
46:45
the chandelier falling is all show. the phantom of the opera influences on this season are everywhere and they're fantastic. an incredible addition to the story's intertextuality.
51:25
variable: diego isn't into vanya in the show. sigh.
Tumblr media
see this is what it looks like when characters don't and do have chemistry, and when a story wants you to know two characters are going to fuck vs when they aren't.
52:00
and constant: vanya interfering in the fight puts her in mortal danger, which leads to her being screamed at by diego to get the fuck out. said interaction convinces her she isn't welcome, and sends her into the arms of her phantom-stand-in.
a direct parallel to her rejection last episode by five.
Tumblr media
also i firmly believe vanya's book should've led hazel and cha-cha there. the episode opens on the book. we need to have it have more of an an effect on the plot.
54:20
and finally, klaus getting kidnapped by hazel and cha-cha is a constant.
in the comics, it happens in the dallas arc. he's kidnapped differently (bashed in the head while seancing pogo), but it always happens on mansion grounds and while he isn't paying attention. and once more, smart to combine these two here.
Tumblr media
i've also noticed in terms of how klaus in particular is written, a lot of his competence and the family's trust in him was stripped away. his addiction was brought in and made obvious from the start, but half the time his shenanigans are strictly comic relief. i think the levity is needed, but since as of s2 that's all he is, i'm less enthused about it now. (like... 'oh. so that's all you think he is, then')
one big variable for him is that he isn't like that in the comics. he's much more serious, and a more trusted, central member of the group. i like the idea of tracking him transforming into that character, but the show has to remember to do that.

Sorry I haven't detailed my Friendship breakup ask earlier, managing life is taking too much time these days!
It's a bit hard to summarise but I have been soulmate-type friends with this girl, K, for three and a half years and really good friend with this guy, R, for two and a half. We all work together and our triangle friendship worked well. K and R fooled around a few times after parties, K developed feelings, R didn't and thought it was a friends with benefits thing while K hoped it would become more but it never did. Big problem was the lack of communication between them, both thought the other knew what they wanted but we know that things don't work this way.
I've been there for all of it, particularly for K who had been hurt by the lack of emotional intelligence R indeed displayed along the way. But I also felt, and I think R knew it herself, that she had been getting her hopes up almost all along and was setting herself for heartbreak, but life needs to be lived and sometimes we make mistakes just so that we can learn from them and K and I talked a lot about that, as I was myself getting entangled with another colleague.
Fast forward to last November, where, after months of horrible things piling up 2020 style, R and I spent an evening together watching movies, eating pizzas, drinking English cider and talking about how fucking sad we all were and fuck 2020 and family members dying of cancer way too fast, both in his and my family, and work being hell because the government is doing shit for making schools safe and everything going wrong all the time. At some point during the night there was a moment when I felt that R was offering more than just sleeping together in the same bed and I had a moment of hesitation but decided to not give in to it and to the the confort it might bring us both, mainly because I was sure it would hurt K if she ever heard about it. So we just slept, read books in the morning while drinking tea and there was no awkwardness because we both knew that it came from the fact that we trust each other enough to ask for comfort and even if it would have been a possibly stupid way to get it, it might have made us feel better in the moment. (even though we both think we'd have burst into tears 30 seconds in and not done it in the end)
I wondered whether I should tell K or not and decided to do it because nothing had happened, really, and if I didn't tell her when we told each other most things, that's when it'd have become suspicious and dishonest. So I told her that there had been a weird moment between R and I, that nothing had happened in the end, not in the best way in retrospect because it felt too casual to her, confirmed that had it happened it would have been weird for her and thought that was that since the next few days went fine. But at the end of that week she sent me an audio, saying that if I had feelings for R, I had a lot of time to tell her, that she needed people she could trust and who respected her in her life and that we weren't friends anymore. And that was it. Since then, she has refused to have a conversation to clear things up and has avoided me several weeks but has kept talking to R as usual.
I should have told her in a different way and I understand why she felt hurt imagining that R and I had spent a night of passion together but I told her, and then explained more clearly, that nothing had actually happened, that I wasn't into R and he wasn't into me, we were just both very sad and a bit too drunk.
The thing is, he's not hers, they haven't been in a relationship, he's not her ex either. Even if we had slept together, it wouldn't have had anything to do with her; people don't belong to people. But what's really hard is that we've been really good friends for several years and she was so quick to assume I would be cruel to her on purpose and that her feelings didn't matter to me when we've been there for each other a lot. And that putting an end to our friendship via WhatsApp was apparently so easy to do. (I don't really think it was, but it sure feels like it.)
And I've been asking other friends' opinions to see how in the wrong I was really, since maybe I couldn't see the situation clearly enough from my position, and the general consensus is that since I didn't do anything with him and was honest with her right after the nothing happened, she's being a bit extreme when the only actual thing she could reasonably resent me for is the way I told her. We're adults, we should be able to at least talk about it but I've offered several times and she says she doesn't need to or want to. But we're in the same friend group, we're supposed to spend time all together at some point and us not talking has an effect on the whole group dynamics, not just on us, and my awful need to make sure everything is balanced for everyone is going crazy.
It's been a long few months and my already sad and stressed out brain is having a hard time dealing with it and I hate that we're in this situation for something as futile as boy problems. I think there are issues of jealousy and self-confidence that stem from something else and that she's projecting it all onto this but it still sucks a lot, especially since she's refusing to talk about anything, even if we're at least back to saying hello and she has stopped fleeing every room I am in.
Anyways, friendship breakups suck, they can be as stupid as romantic breakups, and 2021 has better be nicer too everyone than 2020! Sorry for the novel-lenghth ask/story, my life is a succession of ridiculous plot points.
I hope you and Baby and Mr. Blake are doing well in these weird, weird times and I've started your book and I have loved your last video, especially the part on jealousy/possesiveness which was really well-put, as usual! Oh and thank you so, so much for your book recs on my last ask, I've added them to my To read-list <3
Okay, Love you, bye!
I feel like my last ask was a little bit too detailed to give a general answer/launch a large topic so I'm guessing it's mainly about how to deal with a lack of closure when people end things without the possibility to talk and get/give explanations. And I guess it goes for romantic relationships as well as friendships.
Love your big sistering, love you !
WELL I actually did not get this ask until a few hours after I had filmed this week’s video so not to worry lol I wasn’t able to address this specifically. but I think that’s the thing about the generality of grief over losing a friend—we don’t necessarily have to know the specifics of your story to understand it’s something we probably all relate to. and in this case I most certainly relate! I think this is one of those things where your friend had some personal things to work on and it put you in a difficult position, wherein you made the most logical choice. that’s the problem: you are looking logically at what is for her an emotionally fraught situation about her self-worth and your loyalty, which is why the math on your end isn’t adding up. (for the record I am much more likely to be in your position than hers; she sounds like a water sign but WHO’S TO SAy)
anyway, I don’t think you’re in this position over boy problems. a boy appears to be the subject yes but in fact he is the object; the subject is your friend’s feelings about herself and your—forgive me, but your compulsion to force her to get over it. I may not be completely right about that, but it does appear to me that you could have said nothing about the “nothing” that happened but chose not to because, ultimately, part of you wanted her to know. I don’t think this is sinister of you; I have a lot of friends who really need to just get over it as a general rule and sometimes it does feel like shocking them into it with new information might do the trick. but I think most likely she feels or intuits that in some way, and I suspect the root of her anger isn’t really about him but the “betrayal” she feels from you: that in that moment, you weren’t thinking about her* despite the fact that you would probably have known she would hurt if you had been (I’m sure you did know this to be true, and in my opinion are rationalizing your part in it; which is fine because you’re the main character in your life and not hers, but it is what it is) and of course she’s thinking about her, so what seems like a lot of pain on her end that she has no healthy method of dealing with is straining your relationship. I hope she can bring herself to deal with it, but she has a lot of work to do on herself before she can reach the pinnacle of what’s really bothering her. until then, it’s easier to blame you.
* edited to add: I know you said that you decided not to move forward sexually because of her, but I think what actually hurts her is not the possibility of sex, but the intimacy you had with him in that moment, which even you know is something she craved; perhaps delusionally. you don’t have to acknowledge whether this is a reasonable thing to be upset by, but I think the entirety of the situation is probably hitting her much differently than it hits you.
anyway my answer was not about this situation specifically but about why friendship breakups hurt so much, and I don’t think knowing the situation changes my answer. I hope it does help, because I think there is some part of this that is always true: one person needs to do something on their own before the friendship can be repaired, and it may not have been a problem at all if not for an issue of very specific timing. but trust me, whether this specific thing had happened or not this would still be true about the two of you, and about the ways your personal dogmas differ, and perhaps it’s better to see if she can take this leap now. maybe she will grow from it; maybe she won’t. either way, this is the part-grief, part-guilt formula I’m talking about, where sometimes you have to admit the breaking point happened, whether it could have gone differently or not, and now it’s out of your control
but I hope it helps to talk about!

Correct me if I'm wrong... but in Tom King's version of the Scarlet Vision relationship, Vision cracks the joke about Toasters first. And then later we see that is his pet name from Wanda. And he doesn't seem to mind. And the one time, ONE TIME, she uses it in anger... her two children have been sucked into a demon, so I mean, she has a fucking right to be flawed. He says the joke again to his wife, and she doesn't get the ironic sense as Wanda did. Stop judging shippers.
It’s a shit concept as a cute pet name to begin with, Anon. Like, imagine a series that retcons Jean to have called Cyclops “mutie” as a fun thing in their marriage, because it’s the exact same thing. I’m not really out here approving of her calling him a thing similar to the shit that gets spray painted on his house to hurt him ten years later. Just fundamentally, it doesn’t matter that he doesn’t mind or it’s “ironic” or that he says it first because it’s flawed and I’m not going to accept it. I hate when fans use it because they accept it uncritically as cute, when the whole point of the solo was how bad Wanda and Vision ultimately were for each other… This is also actual maybe canon now, so I think it’s important to protest it lest writers of actual comics think we want to see it again.
Also, and I know I’ve discussed this before, but the microaggressions aren’t just that. It’s also the way that she calls him a toaster directly before telling him she loves him, the way she describes his senses as ‘when you sort of see me’, the way she directly invalidates him by openly comparing him to WM, the odd artist decision to have her look so uncomfortable post-coitus… Not to mention the fact that she thinks she can just sort of give him her brainwaves to try to fix him, as though she believes it’s better that he be with his own kind and their marriage was a mistake… Jesus Christ, it’s explicitly pointed out that she’s never understood him as a person by Vision himself!
I’d also like to point out I never get this hate when I’m musing on Vision’s flaws… Like the series shows Wanda was a shit wife, but it also shows Vision was a shit husband (twice!) and father - he has no less than two epiphanies about this, but it’s when Virginia is dying in his arms (she has a fucking name, Anon, she was important - “I am not Mrs Vision”) and when Vin’s already dead. Him realising “I should have done better” to Viv is a climactic point of the last issue of the solo?
Wanda’s allowed to have flaws, but I’m also allowed to dislike her for them, especially ones as severe as repeatedly calling your husband a slur and dehumanising him because you think it’s a cute callback to a joke he made when he was obviously uncomfortable and trying to fit in, ie not himself.
Admittedly, my perspective is biased probably because I’ve always mildly disliked her, and I go back and forth on the ship but I put up with it because no-one else makes Vision content - which is a thing I always assume people know about me, but maybe not?
In the interests of fairness it’s probably important to note that butchering characters and long-term relationships to fit preselected pretentious themes is just a thing that Tom King does when writing, but if they’re gonna have this interpretation of Vision colour canon and fandom, it’s important to acknowledge the bad aspects of it too, which was really what that post was about in the first place.
Anyway, I’ll stop judging shippers when they start treating Vision as a proper person and superhero (who’s saved the world either forty times or at least twice) and acknowledge his emotions and perspective independently of the damn ship, and not as a hot human white guy for Wanda to make out with.
