wanted to ask, could we get a look in to how you put together your animatics?? I've been toying with the idea of trying to make one of my own, but I've got no idea where to start
oh yeah totally
though to be fair, a HUGE chunk of my time is spent listening to about 20 seconds of a song and imagining how the images move around like a little movie, and I refine a ton of stuff in my head before starting to actually put scenes down on paper. This happens with non-music boarding too, imagining different versions of how the scenes line up with dialogue/music. So step one: put a song on repeat and daydream for at least two hours. But, if you aren’t sure how to do this, I’d suggest looking at animatics, MAP projects, AMVs, animated musicals, fight scenes, etc. what do they do that’s cool? Imitate them.
after that, I have most of the main images with some blank spots im not sure how to fill until I put them down. I make something like this and get the compositions of each main image looking more or less okay in this form. This is also the stage I figure out the in between blank spots. I try not to have weird camera moves or other storyboarding don’ts, but some storyboarding donts are completely valid to break if you know what you want aesthetically. As usual. This one was actually pretty clean, but check out all the framing edits. i always have to make the frame bigger
If you really don’t know what goes in between things, don’t be afraid to focus on some little details of the scene, pull out and show us the setting, put some flowery symbolism on screen, give us some fun little comedic anime inserts, or do what cowboy standoffs do and build tension. What we used to do was draw paws stepping across the screen or eyes blinking, lol
next comes audio sync! I like to get the timing extant on copies of these rough thumbnails before moving on. It helps my brain work through smaller more animated movements + testing if the things I came up with for the blank spots work. and also just makes it happy. And also, most importantly, it tests if the compositions work. If you can see it, the whole sequence with mom was a blank spot until I sketched it. I usually do this step in roughanimator even if i don’t finish it in roughanimator. Keeps it very rough.
after this is just a lot of polishing and layers! For lots of small animatics, I just use roughanimator and leave it like that. It’s surprisingly good for a very basic program. But, for things that need tweens or lots of camera movement, I use toon boom harmony. It’s more powerful and is actually supposed to be used for animation, which. Yknow. I do. I tried storyboard pro, it wasn’t my favorite.
Here are some, I guess, miscellaneous more technical tips for making your animatics feel nice!
If you’re going for lots of movement, try out timing it so big movements or scene transitions line up with the spikes in the audio WAV. If it doesn’t feel right, move it a few frames BEFORE the spike/audio beat. Your brain usually wants to see something move barely before it hears it - this works for dialogue especially. BUT! Don’t feel like you have to do this for every beat. unless you want to feel like Wes Anderson, which you can do and I will not stop you.
If you’re going for something slower with not that much movement, try motion tweening! or adjusting something very slowly so we don’t linger on one still image for forever.
you don’t need crazy camera angles for everything, but put a few in there for spice. This all depends on your mood you want to cultivate. Slow = flatter, spacious, details; fast = lots of moves, weird angles, perspective; disorienting = slow/jerky weird angles etc etc. the camera has emotions built into it. Because the camera is you! surprise!
watch storyboarding tutorials. lots of people zoom in too much when they draw and I am not excluded. Also, keep in mind the eyesight rule. It’s hard for me to explain concisely but… you as the artist are always leading the viewers eye somewhere, with every shot you make. Don’t make them dizzy by having the center of attention jump around to six different spots for six shots straight - if you find yourself unhappy with a sequence, especially a fast one, see if your line of sight is going all over the place and try moving the subject of a shot or two somewhere else or having them move/gesture towards the new shot’s focal point so the viewers eye moves there naturally. I’m actually not great at doing this when words/lyrics are involved, pmv makers have my respect.
contrast is your friend. If you want to emphasize a big fast move or big bright image, put little slow moves or simple images right before/after it. and vice versa! this counts for camera too!
easy camera shakes are just 3-4 frames of cam down/up/down less/up less, a blank tween or two (easing back into normal), and then a key for your desired normal camera location. Or left/right, whichever.
your brain needs about six frames to fully register an object as being an object. If you want someone to see and really See it, rather than just get a glimpse of it and go "What was that!" It needs more than six frames.
don’t be afraid to experiment!!!!!! And don’t get overwhelmed! Everything I just described I MOSTLY do off instinct, which you’ll get a sense for after you make one. Or like…. Ten. Does it feel good in your heart? Then that’s what’s important. Find an idea you want to make move, figure out your limits (programs, attention span, drawing capability, make sure not to commit to a minute long amv if you dont KNOW you wanna do a minute long amv), and plan around that. When I was A Child, people on youtube were just making like three amvs per second and cringe hadn’t been invented yet so they were all mostly untrained unpolished and so so important and based to me. Stop thinking so hard about it. You gotta get that animatic out there into the world or it’ll start fermenting in your brain and make you sick. So what if it doesn’t turn out exactly the way you imagined it? You’ll have another idea tomorrow. And if it matters that much, you can always do it again. Go make! Good luck!

I have written for a few things over the past few years, but right now I am writing pretty exclusively for Resident Evil, though I do have a Call of Duty fic in progress that might see the light someday.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
(Im going to go with only Resident Evil ones because i said so)
1) what are you willing to sacrifice for peace? - my Vendetta fic! also the start of my connected chreon series
2) Please Don't Leave Me - a Leon sickfic I haven't gotten around to finishing yet lmaoooo (also part of the chreon series)
3) in my dreams, we're far away from here - part two of the chreon series, a 3+1 with carrying as the theme :))

I haven't yet, but I don't get too much engagement anyway. I don't think I have had the opportunity to get any. Haven't gotten any hate here either.

I do!! I used to not, but now that I kind of know how it's done, I've been experimenting and practicing. Most of my fics nowadays have sex scenes in them (or multiple) but i have written a pure smut fic.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest crossover you’ve ever written?
I haven't! I'm not the biggest fan of crossovers and often avoid reading them because I'm not interested. Doesn't mean they're bad though. Just not my thing.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I hope not! Not that I'm aware of at least.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have not (though if you wanna, please ask! I'm very open to it)
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes, I have! I am actually in a roleplay server and have a writing partner. We have been turning many an rp in a fic for you guys! Like I can't escape this now, unless you show me how (mine and @leon-thot-kennedy 's re 5 chreon au)
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
CHREON!!! I have liked a lot of ships from other fandoms, but chreon is without a doubt my favorite Resident Evil ship as well as all around ship. Other ships are just fine but chreon is my OTP, the source of all happiness in my life.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Oh definitely Please Don't Leave Me. I have an outline and a plan and everything, just haven't had the juice to write hurt Leon nowadays. I hope to come back to it though!!!
16. What are your writing strengths?
I don't actually know haha. No one has told me anything, but I like to think I do suspense fairly well? Not as good as other people but I'm still learning! This year marks my fourth year of writing though so that's exciting :))
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Definitely balancing dialogue, action, and internal thoughts. I always have too much of one of those. Also I tend to reuse phrases or sentence structure and I need to learn to spice it up a little lmaoo
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I think writing dialogue in another language is perfectly fine. Especially if the character speaks another language. You just have to be aware that not everyone will understand what is being said. But if it's essential to the plot, saying that they said it in another language works too.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Star Trek (2009) or the reboot movies lmao. It's funny, I started out not shipping anyone, but then started to ship Jim and Bones. But then I watched the original series and shipped Spirk in the old series. So I actually think that this was my first foray into shipping men together. Haven't been the same since hehehehe.
I was into Star Trek for about a year and a half! longest to date and I would say it was my first true hyperfixation. Resident Evil is creeping up on length though haha.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
Favorite fic is hard but I actually REALLY like I can't escape this now, unless you show me how . It's my baby, my magnum opus. The best thing I have had a hand in creating (even if only half of it is mine). For fics that are purely mine, The Stars Were Out was the most fun to write with the forest and stuff. Was kind of experimental but it was fun to try and describe things a little better and draw out the scenes.

What did you want to be when you'd grow up? I wanted to be an artist when i was really young, then i wanted to be a writer a lot of elementary/middle school, then i kept my options open through highshcool and last minute decided to go to architecture school and it was a very very good gut decision and in a way im an artist, fanfic writer, and soon to be licensed architect, best of all worlds!
Your favourite cartoon: when i was a kid me and my brother would wake up early to watch pokemon, I also liked the pbs show Sagwa, curious George (hey frank!) and clifford
Your favourite TV show: zoboomafoo !!!! fucking loved that guy!
Your favourite book: I had this book when i was a kid called Millions of Cats which was kind of a fucked up story and I would be very interested to see someone analyze what that book says about love. I also really liked Too Big bc look how cute the coloring is !

Your favourite school subject: I really liked all subjects except I hated biology and I hated spanish, not bc the language is bad but bc my teacher was a white lady from colorado who im not really sure actually spoke spanish. I really loved physics and english and history and art

I lived in a very safe place so free roam go to the or the beach near us, if you didnt like the kids in your neighborhood you were fucked cause those were our built in play mates and on the hottest days i would find the coldest part of my house and just lay on the tile reading all day

my mom had the elite early 2000s music taste; amy winehouse, tracy chapman, dolly parton, green day, the chicks, tina turner, smashing pumpkins, spice girls, alanis morissette, jack johnson, Lauren hill, so good, I still listen to them all today

I used to cut pieces of my hair periodically with the kitchen scissors but it wasnt like super noticeable so my mom was just like i really cant figure out why your hair grows like this
I also took the bus by myself a couple times when i was wayy to young to but it was a really simple bus system so i just got on and went to town and took it back, idk seems like it worked out okay!

Gm kendalll!! What’s your favorite recipe? Like what do you think defines you as a person?
my sweet sorin this is truly one of the most thoughtful questions i've ever been asked so thank you so much for taking the time to do so. i had to sit down and really think about it for a bit but to me, the only answer is caldo verde.
caldo verde (literally green soup) is something i ate almost weekly growing up - a deceptively simple soup made from potatoes, sausage of some kind, and a mountain of beautiful green kale. it's hearty and soothing, something that my grandfather ate often growing up on a dairy farm.
when my papa was still with us, he made big pots of it and we'd go over to their house and have fresh bread and our soup no matter the season and it was a time i recall as being really important because it taught me the value of just listening and being together. we would all talk over each other, ten convos going on at once, yet i dont think i've ever felt more heard in my life than i did during those dinners.
now everyone has their recipe. my papa had his that i now have, his sisters have and had their own, fuck i think my sister has her own but it's deceptively simple. you can use chourico, that is not my recommendation, i use linguica and recommend you get it if you can find it because it adds a lot of smoky flavor to the soup itself. it makes your home smell so warm and inviting, too. im not sure where in the world you're at, but i highly recommend taking the time this fall to do the following:
procure one pound of linguica. cut it into medallions or half moons, whichever you prefer, and set it aside. chop up 4-6 potatoes in bite sized cubes. chop a yellow onion (or two if you're serving a lot of people as i tend to do) and i am insane and use four to six gloves of garlic. i grate mine with a microplane but you can rough chop, use a press, use pre minced, etc. whatever is easiest for you!
heat good olive oil in a soup pot and saute your onion and garlic until your kitchen starts smelling really good. i stress good because a lot of the flavor basis comes from the oil you use here. once the onion and garlic are good, add your potatoes and sautee them for a few minutes just to let them start softening. at this point, i add my linguica. i let it fry for usually a good 8 or so minutes to really infuse the olive oil and veggies with the spices in it and then i remove it so that it doesn't get tough and hard to eat while everything else stews.
add about 6 qts of water and chicken bouillon powder to your potatoes, onions, and garlic (we are a knorr household but use whatever you have - boxed broth is also a great option here). crank up the heat and let it come to a simmer for about 25-30 minutes. at this point you will have a really beautiful soup and certain people will remove the potatoes from the stock and use a food processor/immersion blender to make them smooth and like a thickener but i dont, i prefer the more rustic experience and leave them whole. add your linguica back and let it simmer for a few more minutes then dump in the largest handfuls of kale you possibly can. i use like a pound per four servings bc im an insane person and love it lmao this will wilt really quickly and all you have to do is stir it until it all looks cooked through.
best when shared with people you love with a fresh loaf of bread from your favorite bakery.

hiii im going to be living w my aunt over the summer and therefore buying my own groceries. I am going to be busy w summer classes and working on the weekends but I do rlly want to try cooking at least once or twice a week. I can make an egg and pasta but that’s about it. What are some of your fave recipes that aren’t super complicated that I could start with if you have any? (I am open to a minor challenge but cooking can overwhelm me so I like a challenge but not too much of one lol). I am also vegetarian (not vegan) if that matters! If you don’t get to this that’s okay !!! I hope u are well 🩷🩷🩷
now it's been a little while for me since i've had to use this model due to moving back home w my family for a time but when buying groceries for one person i found it helpful to follow this sort of structure about once a week! when i do this it feels a lot easier to 'wing it' in the kitchen and mix and match my meal components. and to preface, this is what i find to be helpful and everyone is different and finds different things to work for them!!
1-3 protein sources - i like to center my meals around this because i've found it helps me feel the most nourished and full, i always think of it as things that can be the 'star' of your dishes. i eat meat so i usually do salmon, chicken thighs, and alternate pork + beef. but for u that could b things like tofu, eggs, beans/lentils, mushrooms maybe, vegetarian 'meat' fakes lol, peanut butter if u like any peanutty noodle dishes
3-4 veggies - i love to snack on veggies so i usually get snap peas, cucumbers, + bell pepper just for snacking, and then something like brussel sprouts for roasting as a side dish w a dinner, these can also be frozen
2-3 types of fruit - i am a smoothie enjoyer bigtime so i get a combo of frozen and fresh, almost always mango, and then whatever is seasonal that i can see myself being excited to eat throughout the week
2-3 grains - pastas, premade pizza crusts, bread, rice, etc!! these rly round out ur meals!! and imo they make it simpler to make a meal on the fly. i am a huge fan of microwave rice LOL
2-3 multipurpose dips/spreads/sauces/condiments/pantry items - now here is ur golden ticket for being able to reliably make well rounded and varied meals!!! slowly building up your collection over time is the most cost effective way imo. it's helpful to stock up your pantry w things like baking supplies (flours, sugars, leaveners), spices, shelf stable canned goods (canned tomatoes, beans, vinegars, oils, soy sauces, fish sauce, cartons of things like oak milk), and 'fridge pantry' items (parmesan, herbs, lemons for juice and zest, miso, gochujang, ketchup, mayo, hot sauce, jam, pickles, etc). you can use these to season your food as you cook!
2-3 snacks/frozens - any microwave meals or chips or desserts you might want!!
using this structure makes it easier to look at what you have and be like, i have xyz and they would go together well.
EX. i have rice, tofu, and bok choy, now i can cook the rice and pan fry the tofu and bok choy with my pantry ingredients (soy sauce, miso, sesame oil, chili oil) and create a filling meal!
some of my favorites that could be made vegetarian -
ground pork seared on the bottom of a dutch oven in patties (you could sub tofu or use a fake meat replacement), broken up into smaller chunks, eaten with linguine, sliced snap peas or celery, + a garlicky peanut butter sriracha sauce
pizza w a store bought crust!! super easy, done in like 10 minutes! i like to make mine in a cast iron following this protocol
i really love to dress up ramen w sliced veggies and eggs
i like to make pasta dishes and then form a sauce w parmesan cheese, butter, pasta water, lots of lemon zest and juice and sometimes chicken stock, then adding in peas and fresh herbs at the end

What I think the lost boys smell like.
Hi peeps, Im just getting more and more chaotic with the headcancons I write but oh well. I hope you guys like this dumpster fire.
So to start off i do not think the boys smell as bad as the frog bothers made it seem, the frog bros are just a tad dramatic. Of course the boys are technically the "undead" but I don't think they smell like a sack of rotting flesh, how on earth would they ever manage to go out to the boardwalk if they smelt that bad? They wouldn't be able to, that being said they definitely don't smell like a rose bush, but they don't smell dead either so let's get into what they do actually smell like.
Paul
This man has a lot of different scents going on here. First and foremost its important to know paul almost always has snacks in his pockets, like he has oreos, chips, honeybuns, fortune cookies. The whole 9 yards, Paul keeps a good stash of snacks on him at all times. That being said he probably has a bit of a sweet undertone smell, not over powering or strong but very subtle. I think he smells like hair spray as well, like getting his hair that fluffy he 100% uses hair spray. There also was the one scene in tlb that paul was smoking, what im assuming is just a regular cigarette but it could might be w33d so there is that smell also, because you just never know with paul. I do think he would smell of cologne too. Maybe a little motorcycle feums as well.
Marko
Marko my sweet lil gremlin, he has this pine, woodsy smell to him. I don't make the rules I just inforce them and this man smells like a pine forest. But here me out marko has a slight smell of pennies to him too, he smells like this mainly because he has like a ton of change on him at all times honestly. Like my mans has his pockets full of change because you never know when you might need it. Oh but hold your horses there's more. Marko has a guilty pleasure of drinking energy drinks every though he may be a vampire and the energy drink does absolutely nothing he just likes the taste of it. His favorite is jolt cola, which is essentially a Coca-Cola energy drink. We also all know marko is a lil clumsy boi because he's energetic ( which i am too so no judging from me) so in turn he spills his drink a lot, getting it on him. That means he acquires the smell of carmel, and a hint of vanilla. Now this is very specific but it just sits right with me, Marko wears the cologne cool water by davidoff,the top notes are mint, sea water and rosemary. To me that just screams marko.
Dwayne
This man lord have mercy ok, dwayne predominantly smells like lavender and here is why. Dwayne likes to pick the lavender thats right outside the cave, i like to think he'd have this natural good earthy smell to him and he seems like he'd smell so calming. dwyane also likes to put the lavender in a little vase since he finds them pretty and they smell really good too. He sometimes carrys some lavender in his pockets. Dwayne just loves plants and flowers because he like the idea of life and living things, so naturally he likes to carry them with him. ~ and sometimes he gives the lavender flowers out to girls he finds pretty~ . He also very much enjoys himself a cup of tea, he has a tea stash he keeps in an old cigar box tucked away in his room. his favorites are earl grey, gunpowder and chai he can appreciate the different flavors of each tea. Dwayne really likes to add cinnamon to his tea to add a little flavor and spice. I truly feel in my bones he would smell like cedar too like just a nice comforting and calming scent would engulf you when ever you were near him.
David
Oh the loml, there is a lot too unpack here. Ofc davie boy smokes so your gonna smell that on him, im thinking specifically marlboro reds just because that was a very popular cigarette back in the 80s and I 100% believe david would steal cigarettes off surf nazis. Just the facts, david would also smell like mint. This maybe because whenever david isn't smoking he is chewing gum or maybe its because david has a cologne that has a mint undertone. Hes never gonna let you know which is the reason. Another scent you'll smell on him is leather this man wears at least one piece of leather at all times. Whether its his leather pants or his jacket, he has something leather on.naturally that scent rubs off on him. Oh and whiskey or bourbon david smells like whiskey or bourbon.I think the best way to describe the way david smells is at first he has a bold almost chilling smell but then there's a slightly warmer dare I say comforting scent. With oaky, smoky notes. Oh and he'd smell like hair gel we all know a fine mullet like David's doesn't look that good on its own oh no a good amount of hair gel goes into that bad boy.
