Solamith are ogre sized demons with pallid, green veined skin and a number of horns. Most significant however is its swollen stomach, with screaming faces and burning flames pressing through the skin. Inside of its body is a swirling mess of burning flames and trapped soul fragments that fuel the fires, infusing the solamith’s stomach flesh and becoming its primary weapon. It tears free chunks of its body, hurtling them off where they detonate and burn away at any creature except other solamiths. These fires burn at the soul as much as they scorch the body, and even creatures normally resistant or immune to fire feel the effects of it.

These attacks harm the solamith as well, but they are reckless creatures and early in a battle they willingly take extra damage to try and kill their opponents quickly. They rarely concern themselves with protecting their allies, and unless fighting with another solamith have a high chance of burning out their own allies, and creatures that know what they’re getting into when fighting alongside a solamith are careful to avoid remaining engaged with the creature’s targets for long. Once the solamith has taken damage, it uses smaller soulfire blasts or even shifts to using its heavy punches and kicks, letting its regeneration heal up some of the damage it has taken.

Solamiths are typically very violent and brutal creatures, acting as destructive and cruel as demons typically do. The main exception is when they eat, which they often do after killing creatures. Despite not needing food, they delight in feeding on the remains of living creatures, particularly humanoids, and are often quite delicate while eating. They savor their meals, eating slowly, and once they finish a new face appears among the many others on its stomach, fragments of the person’s soul infused into the soulfire in the demon’s stomach.

Solamith usually wander solo or in pairs, but occasionally get rounded up by more powerful demons to form them into regiments of artillery that can lay waste to entire armies.

The solamith takes 5 points of damage and provokes opportunity attacks from each creature within 5 feet of it as it tears a handful of flesh from its body, hurling that flesh at a point it can see within 100 ft. of it. Each creature except solamiths within 20 feet of that point must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw, taking 21 (6d6) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. When the solamith uses this ability, it can choose to take an extra 5 points of damage to increase the radius of this ability to 40 feet, and it can choose to take an extra 10 points of damage to increase the damage of this attack to 28 (8d6) fire damage. It can use both of these abilities as part of the same action, taking damage for each. Reactions Soulfire Retort. When the solamith takes damage from a melee attack, it can unleash a burst of soulfire in a 15-foot cone. I offer you selection of my favourite design pieces created during the 20th century that are considered icons of modern era at the same time. They are not only a part of the permanent collections of world´s the most leading design and decorative art museums but thanks to their timeless appearance they are still the best ingredient of many high-end modern interiors.

And maybe this list may seems as cliché I try to bring to you a context that proves the most of the best designs were revolutionary, visionary and innovative at that times and pushed the boundaries not only for design and furniture industry but for everyday simple life.

1. Vitra - Eames House Bird, around 1910 ♥ / ♥ / ♥

The bird was originally carved by Charles Perdew around 1910 as a bird decoy for hunters and became popular in the 1950s, primarily for its minimal shape and dark color. It was popularized by Charles and Ray Eames, who acquired one on their travels in the Appalachian mountains and soon can be seen in many of their product photo-shoots.

Large family of Plastic chairs are the most well-known designs by Eames. Designer couple won second prize with them in the 'International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design', organised by the New York Museum of Modern Art. They used a fiberglass, a material that was entirely new to the furniture industry and at that time reserved for the US Army.

8. Warren Platner - Platner Arm Chair, 1966

The Platner Collection captured the decorative, gentle shapes and is now considered a design icon of the modern era.

9. Charles and Ray Eames - Eames Lounge Chair Wood (LCW), 1945

In 1999, Time magazine declared the LCW the greatest design of the 20th century. The original LCW was a result of designing plywood splints for the US air force. After several experiments Eames came up with an “honest” ergonomic chair that was soon coveted the world over.

10. Vico Magistretti - Atollo lamp, 1977

This object of Industrial design by Italian designer Vico Magistretti for O luce won the 1979 Compasso d’Oro award and took its place in the permanent collections of design and decorative art museums as MoMA, becoming so much more than just a lamp: an icon.

11. Eero Saarinen - Tulip chairs and Pedestal tables, 1955-1956 ♥

The collection was designed by Eero Saarinen for the Knoll company of New York City. The furniture with its smooth lines of modernism and experimental materials is considered a classic of industrial design.

12. Hans J. Wegner - CH24 | WISHBONE CHAIR, 1949

The very first model that Hans J. Wegner designed exclusively for Carl Hansen & Søn.

13. Jorgen Hovelskov - Harp Chair, 1968

14. Poul Henningsen - Artichoke Lamp, 1958

The iconic lamp was designed for a commision for a restaurant in Copenhagen. The fact that the light source couldn’t be seen was very revolutionary at the time. When people didn’t see a lamp as a nice object but simply as a generator of light, Henningsen was one of the first to think of both.

15. Jean Prouvé - Standard chair, 1934 ♥

During World War II, Prouvé was a member of the French Resistance, and his first post-war efforts were devoted to designing metal pre-fab housing for those left homeless by the conflict. The Standard Chair exemplifies a fundamental aspect of Prouvé’s furniture design: his unwavering focus on structural requirements.

16. Marco Zanuso - Lady armchair, 1951

Designed in 1951 for Arflex, the Lady armchair won the gold medal at the IX Milan Triennale in the same year. The armchair brings innovation to the traditional manufacturing technique for making armchairs and sofas, with each part manufactured separately and then assembled.

17. Verner Panton - Panton chair, 1960-1967

S-shaped chair is the world's first moulded plastic chair and it is considered to be one of the masterpieces of Danish design.

18. Arne Jacobsen - Cylinda-Line, 1967

Arne Jacobsen hoped that Cylinda-line products would enrich the lives of average consumers with industrial design that was functional and affordable. It won the Danish Design Council’s ID Prize in 1967.

The designer remains unknown to this day. The story goes that while visiting Acapulco in the 50s, a French tourist was uncomfortably hot sitting in a solidly-constructed chair in the Mexican sunshine. Inspired by the open string construction of traditional Mayan hammocks nearby, he designed a chair fit for the modern tropics.

Bertoia found sublime grace in an industrial material, elevating it beyond its normal utility into a work of art.

Serge Mouille was asked by Jacques Adnet, the director of the French Arts Company, to create 'big lightings' for his South-American customers. Mouille imagined then the famous Standing lamp 3 arms and Standing lamp one arm that was the beginning of the « Formes Noires » collection.

26. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe - Barcelona chair, 1929

In 1929, Mies was commissioned by the German government to design the German pavilion for the Barcelona Fair, one of the most elegant pieces of architecture ever created. This building required furniture that simply did not exist, so Mies responded to this commission with the Barcelona chair.

27. A. Bonet, J. Kurchan and J. Ferrari Hardoy - The butterfly chair, also known as a BKF chair, 1938 ♥

The BKF chair (the initials of its creators) was developed for an apartment in Buenos Aires. In 1940, a picture of the chair appeared in the US Retailing Daily, where it was described as a "newly invented Argentine easy-chair for siesta sitting", few months later, the chair was awarded and attracted the attention of the MoMA in New York immediately.

28. Arne Jacobsen - Drop chair, 1958

Arne Jacobsen designed his Drop chair exclusively for the legendary SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, along with the Swan and the Egg chair. The Drop chair was Arne Jacobsen’s own favourite piece.

i love the sound of my own voice and its tdov so im gonna put a bunch of pictures from my top surgery healing process under the cut and talk abt them

this is from abt 24 hours after my surgery. i woke up and my chest was super swollen and hot and there was nothing coming out of my right side drain (bad sign) so we went to two different emergency rooms because the first one didn’t know what to do. turns out i had developed a hematoma (basically a pocket of blood under the skin that can harden/clot) that wasn’t bad enough to need to be operated on but increased my chances for infection and scar tissue buildup

this is five days postop. nothing special except i was having MAD issues with the painkillers i was on making me nauseous so i couldn’t eat for the first three days after surgery which SUCKED. thats not related to the image obv but this is my post and I get to decide what i talk about

eight days postop! I got the bandages removed and one of the drains but we left the one on the right because of the hematoma which at this point my surgeon decided to just wait for it to resolve itself (liquefy and drain out or be absorbed). should definitely be noted that i wasn’t allowed to shower until three days after my last drain came out and i was Disgusting at this point but i WAS finally allowed to sleep on my side (left side, the one w/o the drain) which i hadn’t been able to do until then.

eleven days postop! this picture was taken because the bruising got way worse over the course of a few hours and started swelling again so i went back to the ER. again, the hematoma was not bad enough to operate on but i was prescribed antibiotics bc the surgeon on call was worried about infection. as best as i can figure that little bruise near my armpit was where the end of the drain was and it got bruised because of my arm pressing against it while i slept on my side

two weeks postop! Things were tbh very normal at this point apart from the bruising and the drain and the limited mobility. We have no idea what caused the bruise in the center of my chest lmao. I had also figured out how to (very carefully) shower at this point which tbh did WONDERS for my mood and my bearability-to-be-around

17 days postop! I remember that at this point i was getting So annoyed with the drain and also the hematoma would just randomly start hurting which uh. sucked lmao

this is three weeks postop! This is where my drain went in, and the two dots are where the stitch held the tube in place. Dissolving stitches apparently do not dissolve like they’re supposed to for me and my mom FREAKED out when i made her pull the rest of the stitch out bc it was longer than she expected. Because I got keyhole surgery and not double incision, these little scars are my only visible ones (and theyre so pleasantly visible when i wear big armhole tank tops)

After this i stopped taking too many photos because it was mostly just waiting for the drain to come out (which took about four weeks until my surgeon finally took it out and only then bc she claimed it ‘looked like it was a part of me’)

This is from a few weeks ago! im basically 100 percent back to normal, but even a month and a half ago reaching for stuff too far away with my right arm hurt and sometimes if i pull at the skin weirdly i need to take a Moment. I also still have a bit of scar tissue left on my right side and sometimes the skin gets a bit darker, but im also only fourish months postop so i know itll go down more with time and massage and stuff.

my Acorn Fur design changed slightly as she used to be more red saturated and i wanted her to not so much like my Red Claw Design

My biggest Headcanon for her is she absolutely didn’t listen to Moth Flight and ended up giving birth to two kit’s with Red claw as the father. they names are Rain Stone and Oak Stump

i like the idea of Acornpaw is a decedent of Acorn Fur and one of the last generations of her family that would remember her name

Acorntail

Acorntail, ancient windclan deputy.

i can imagine he was named the way he was being smallest in his litter, losing his tail to a rabbit trap when he’s older

acorntail stick with being deputy for awhile but i can see either he even after training an apprentice can’t keep up with the duties and once again insist that Morningcloud is made deputy. oR acorntail becoming leader as Acornstar and morningcloud or her apprentice Quickpaw being made his deputy

Adderkit

Adderkit, starclan kit who used to live in windclan and died by adder bite, named for it and was avanged by tallstar

I imagine Adderkit was originally named Burrowkit born to Ashfoot and Deadfoot in their first litter with Eaglekit. Adderkit died on Windclans Journey to find a home after shadowclan chased them out.

Adderkit was very young when they died i picture their memory of their living life being EXTREMELY blurry, they know their windclan and they died by an adder. its why they renamed themself, and they barely remember who their mom and dad were.

Adderpaw

Adderpaw, ancient windclan apprentice who was around to the apprentice age limit code

Adderpaw was name for what a good few other ‘adder’ and snake named kits are named for, their tail wiggling around with its patterns look like that of a skinny snake.

Applefrost

Applefrost, kid of appledusk and reedshine

Named after her piece of shit dad, and raised on one sided stories of him she loved her dad and wanted to be like him as she got older.

She was the first victim of Mapleshade’s hauntings, picking her because she was named after the man who hurt her family and she looks a bit like him.

(applefrost isn’t normally greying on the bottom naturally, this is a side effect on spending so many years training one on one with mapleshade in the dark forest. My crookedstar design also has this) Applefrost knows the name mapleshade and was skeptic to talk to her at first, but opened up and tries to just take what advice she can get from the spirit. Even coming to sympathies with her through learning the truth of her father.

Then one day Mapleshade stopped visiting her, thought Applefrost would never know what happened, there is a reason.

Applefrost was full grown, and so kind even in the face of the warrior who killed her father. And she looked so much like him, yes he ruined her life but maybe this was the price she payed for what she did, to forever feel pain over the lose of someone who didn’t love her.

It was part that, and part..something about the way she looked at mapleshade, and something she said sent her memories flying back to her little petalkit who looked so much like her.

Mapleshade would stop visiting applefrost and move on to another generation of their family.

Applefrost would never tell her siblngs of mapleshade, but would come to disown her own father in starclan. even being friends with petalkit.

Applepaw

Ashfoot

Ashfoot, windclan warrior, deputy and mother of crowfeather

i absOLUTLY love ashfoot

i picture her to be a very like ‘badass warrior mom’ she give tough love and you can’t help but totally admire her. She loves her son crowfeather, though if she is honest he tends to disappoint her with how he kinda doesn’t know how to behave

she gets followed around by herds of kits who want to be like her, and her past apprentice’s (which she has many of) call her sheriff (or mom, which is embarrassing but common and crow HATES it)

Her and Deadfoot are VERY lovey dovey, she loves her sweet husband dearly and was distraught when he died. They were best friends growing up as apprentices together and were both name ‘foot’ in sign they always walked paw and paw, being well synced in battle and in life, they were just perfect for each other. so its easy to imagine when Deadfoot died it was like she lost half of herself

Ashfoot has a very long tail, just oh so slightly shorter than talltail, her family is known for their long tail (a trait passed down through being descended of windstar) Long tails are often called a symbol of power or royality in windclan. its very diserable and only tallstar’s tail was longer than hers. Her son crowfeather, and grandson jayfeather both take after thing ten fold with tails you could trip 10 cats with. breezepelt has a longer tail than average but no were near as long as theirs and it dOES kinda make him mad.

Ashfoot also loVES nightcloud, at first when crowfeather told his mom that nightcloud was having his kit’s she was super skeptical, not of nightcloud but of their relationship. she just saw right through it for what it really was. so she mostly didn’t talk to nightcloud for the two month’s she was pregnant, as to avoid getting involved.

but when Nightcloud gives birth and all of her kits but breezepelt die and she is DISTRAUGHT. Crowfeather isn’t helping and doesn’t seem to find any words that comfort her or not make her more upset, so like a big ol man child he turns to his mom and begs her to calm down nightcloud.

and its this moment that Ashfoot find’s herself completely bonded to Nightclouds side, looking at the dark she-cat crying over her lost kittens with her single son mewling for her. Ashfoot herself has had two litters both that only had one survivor, Eaglekit’s litter (eaglekit only made it to paw before he died) and now all she has is crowfeather. Ashfoot stay’s by the queens side and comforts her new daughter in law.

Ashfoot and Nightcloud are close, even when her and crowfeather ultimately don’t work out.

Ashfur

alsO i think the only ‘au’ i can like get into is like

Dustpelt mysteriously disappeared, presumed dead by thunderclan and never to be known what happened. Except between him and Ferncloud. id loVe a narrative of Ashfur kills dustpelt after watching the full grown warrior and mentor reefer to Ferncloud as beautiful, finding the behavior absolutely repulsive. Maybe ashfur ends up killing a few other cats who are like this and Ferncloud knows he killed dustpelt but maybe not the others. and it all ends up coming spilling out in the fire, this moment of the three and squirrel learn what he did but now he knows what they did, so their at a stale mate. but ashfur is becoming loser and more erratic in his behavior and hollyleaf kills him before he does something dangerous.

Painting Class First Day of Class 9/27/2021

Hello students, Welcome to the 2021-1 Fall Semester

Students where sent an email over the weekend with instructions for the following course:

You also received a class syllabus and a link to meet virtually via TEAMS. The virtually first class meet is scheduled for Monday 9/27/2021 at 12:30pm.

You are responsible for reading this entire email.

I understand that some of you might be first year students, so I have also included a document on proper ways of interacting with your professor. I am cordially asking all students to please adhere to those instructions regarding sending all communication to me.

Please read below the format for these classes as we will begin a blended format this semester.

Note that most of the semester will continue in a remote format.

Next week I will send information on the dates for in person meetings. This will be done with space limitations, meaning only a specific number of students will attend in person at any given time. I will advise on those issues during our first meeting on Monday via Teams.

I will be your instructor.

I am Professor Alena Fresquet , I teach the foundations courses at MDC North.

I am also a Mix Media and Installation artist. I received my MFA degree on 8/2000 and I have been teaching at MDC since 2001.

I use the following platforms for teaching, TEAMS, Twitter and Tumblr.

I will not be using Blackboard at all during the semester. I will discuss further on Monday, the reasons why I use the above platforms instead of Bb. For now, just know that this has been a staple of my teaching since before the pandemic and I have used it successfully since 2009.

I encourage you to go through the class blog here to see how other students have engaged in learning during the Spring ,Summer and Fall semesters using these platforms.

1) In both the Tumblr and Twitter handle, use your name and include your class (ART2500C or ART2502C ) in the bio. You will read additional instructions regarding your first Tumblr post and first tweet on the class blog on Monday after our virtual meet .

For the TEAMS meeting today, make sure you accept the invite to enter the room on Monday at the start of class.

Try to be in the waiting room 10 minutes before the meeting. Once I start it is impossible for me to break out to let people into the chat.

Try to review the class materials and write any questions you have regarding them to ask during the meeting.

As of this writing a return to in person learning in the Fall has been postponed. MDC continues to function in phase 2. This class is a blended course so we will meet remotely for the start of the semester and as the semester progresses, we will meet in person several times.

I will create a list of the days we will be in person in the next few weeks.

Most likely, I will leave in person interaction for critiques and project presentations.

For now, know that I am here to help you navigate this semester.

Please let me know if there are special needs you require to succeed before classes begin so we can work towards helping you learn as seamless as possible.

Tips for navigating the semester start by having good study skills and proper school conduct.

That means that even though we are having a virtual interaction, you should still do the following:

1) Turn your computer on ten minutes before class to make sure everything is working properly when we have virtual meets. That means video, mic and sound. 2) I encourage you to dress up for class accordingly and be ready to learn in an adult and proper manner. 3) Work on developing good study skills, discipline and on task qualities to fulfill the class assignments. 4) Aim to maintain excellent time management skills and self-discipline. I recommend that students use the allotted class time to complete class assignments.

I follow attendance guidelines, if you are not on the TEAMS meeting or assignments are have not posted work to your Tumblr portfolio by the due dates it means you are not doing the class work.

Keep yourself on task, on time and ready to learn. I encourage you to work on those skills so that you can have a successful semester. If at any time during the semester you become sick or encounter any personal difficulties that inhibit your ability to comply with your studies, please reach out to me accordingly.

The sooner we deal with a situation the quicker we can resolve it. I look forward to working with you and helping you achieve these goals. We will talk more on Monday , the first day of class…

“Recap” into teaser

[[Ozzie here! Just writing this author’s note to say that I’m really glad that this is finally done! It took three months (mostly procrastination) but it’s here! And if you’re wondering, it’s being posted here on the Tempest blog first because it is considered lore for Tempest. Before we begin I would like to say a few things:

1) The writing style is weird because it’s written in a recap sort of way 2) The writing style seems to switch partway through as it does start to lead into a teaser-sort of style near the end. Apologies for the weird switch, but it would’ve been harder to write if I had to stick to one style for this. 3) There are Content/trigger warnings including: mentions of blood/gore, death, mentions of suicide. If there’s more, please let me know so I can properly tag it. --Ozzie]]

Sapphire woke up in a chamber. It was outfitted with a sink, a mirror, a bunk bed, and a metal door locked, needing a keycard. After getting herself familiar with her new surroundings, the room started to flood from a sudden pipe burst. With quick thinking, she looked around the room and managed to procure the keycard for her door. She quickly exited and shut the door. As she began to look around the new hallway she was in, seven more doors near her opened, and out walked people she recognized immediately: Bandage, Rewind, Neon, Sprockets, Goggles, Clack, and Pixel, code-named agents that worked alongside her for the MTF unit Omicron-5. The quick breather of reassurance that they got from meeting each other soon ended as Goggles pointed out that water was quickly filling the hall behind them. That was all they needed to bolt forward.

They quickly found stairs and ran up them until there were no more stairs to use. A quick look revealed that they were at a level that opened up into a wide floor. Just as they were reaching the end of the stairs, they heard a commotion from up above. A quick look-up confirmed that there was a secondary set of stairs not attached to the ones they were on. Down from the secondary stairs arrived seven more people. It didn’t take long for it to be obvious that they were from GOIs.

The first ones to introduce themselves were an Alexylva student by the name of Gardenia Meadowood, and a Serpent’s Hand scholar by the name of Morty Aeron. Specializers in botany and embalming, these two were the first to introduce themselves to Sapphire and the others and were the only ones to not have any real immediate identifiers (Morty did have a snake tattoo that reached to his hand, but it was mostly obscured by his sleeves.)

The remaining five were easy to associate with a GOI considering they had their logos and/or markings on open display. Two of them, Iouli Thomaie and Vassilis Admetos, were Sarkites, easily identifiable thanks to their tattoos. Two other young men were members of the GOC, according to the picture they wore along with their ID badges, which identified them as Benny Smith and Jason Snike. The remaining three were a father, mother, and daughter trio all bearing the Insurgency’s logo on their matching hoodies; they identified as Blake, Cheryl, and Tina. Shortly after introductions were made, a part of the wall collapsed, revealing a young man who would identify as Jeremy Fairfield, a secretary for Dr. Wondertainment.

After all, introductions were given (again), a voice was heard through speakers in the room. The voice identified themselves as “The Gamemaster'' and said that the eighteen of them were going to participate in a game of life and death. They were instructed to go through special numbered doors via numbered bracelets that they wore (something they didn’t realize they were even wearing), and that they could escape if they left through a door marked with a nine. They could only enter a numbered door if the digital root input equaled the door’s number; furthermore, the minimum number of people required to open a door was six, and the maximum was ten. When opened, the door would remain open for nine seconds, before closing on its own. Once the inputees entered through their door, they would have 81 seconds to find the deactivation panel. If they find it, they have to input their numbers and the countdown would end. If they didn’t find the panel, didn’t all input themselves, or if at least one person stayed behind outside of the numbered door, then those that were beyond the door would explode from bombs placed in their stomachs. The Gamemaster dropped two last bits of important info. Firstly, this game is timed. All players have nine hours to escape. Second, the transmitters that connect to their bombs are in their bracelets. The only way to get your bracelet off is to either escape or if your heart ceases beating. He then wished everyone good luck before the speakers signaled that they had been disconnected.

The eighteen began to talk amongst themselves. “What is going on?” “Why was I selected for this nightmarish game?” “We have BOMBS in our guts!?” Sapphire gave a sharp whistle, immediately quieting everyone. With the chatter quieted, and a deep breath taken, the conversation resumed, but now with a more logical focus. The first thing the group did was test to see if what The Gamemaster said was true. They tried to open one of the two numbered doors present to them with three, four, and five people, but found them unable to open. They tried one last time with six people, and the door was able to open. That’s when the first incident occurred.

Jason fell in after the door had been opened for seven seconds. He fell so quickly that no one was able to grab him as the doors shut. A methodic beeping was heard. Jason began to panic from the inside. He then told everyone to tell his siblings that he loved them before a sound of an explosion was heard. Shakingly, six of them opened up the door to reveal blood, tissue, and the clothes and bracelet of Jason. Nobody moved as the doors slowly shut themselves after nine seconds. His death meant that everything that The Gamemaster said was truthful.

After the reality had settled in, the overall motivation to continue had lowered. However, they knew that they couldn't stand around and do nothing because of the time limit The Gamemaster had put on them. They took a moment and figured who could go through which of the two doors and split up and entered them.

After clearing the puzzles they had encountered in the rooms, (and after one group nearly exploded from being unable to find the deactivation panel early on), the groups met up again in an area reminiscent of a hospital room, except it was full of empty cots and had three numbered doors. A quick examination showed that the main power for the scanners had been removed, thus preventing them from going any further. Everyone agreed to split up and search for them, the only exceptions being Rewind, Gardenia, and Tina, who decided to assist Tina in finding a restroom. About an hour later, Goggles ran up to Sapphire to tell her that someone had restored the panels. Sapphire knew something was wrong when she noticed that Goggles was not smiling. As soon as she was about to ask why a scream was heard from the hospital room. Sapphire ran with Goggles back to see why a scream was heard.

In the middle of the room was Blake and Cheryl laying in their own blood. These two insurgents, father, and mother to Tina, now lay dead in front of the numbered doors. Suspicion was immediate amongst the now fifteen remaining “players''. After all, everybody had split up, so all alibis except for Gardenia, Rewind, and Tina were hard to trust. But it seemed that a culprit was found quickly, as Neon pointed out that Iouli had been obscuring her hand behind her back. A quick pull from Morty revealed that Iouli’s hand was stained with something red, which caused an argument as Vassilis defended Iouli, claiming that she was innocent. His words were swiftly eaten as Iouli pulled a blade from her pockets and lunged at Tina, only to be grabbed and suplexed by Vassilis himself, causing Iouli to be knocked out. Some rope was grabbed from a nearby room and used to tie her up; after affirming that she would stay put, the fourteen split up their groups and entered through the two rightmost doors. Fortunately, the puzzles this time around were a bit more straightforward. They soon exited back into the hospital room with relatively high spirits, despite the loop they realized they had made.

Iouli was gone. They found her body lying in the hallway, stomach down. A quick test with Bandage and an examination by Morty confirmed the truth: Iouli Thomaie had no heartbeat, and she was killed by a sharp attack to her gut. Instead of suspicion, confusion spread amongst the fourteen; the only question that was floating in their heads was, “How could she be killed if we were all together?” It was a tricky conundrum indeed, as everyone except Iouli entered the two numbered rooms, and everyone was by someone the whole time, so there would be no possible way that someone could have left, murdered Iouli, and returned. Sprocket’s voice piped up, amplified by the silence.

“Well, what if she took her own life?” Everyone turned their heads toward him. How could he say something like that, and what prompted him to say that?

“Sprocket may have a point,” Neon spoke. “We went through different numbered doors and we think we have each found half of a special document. We were discussing as we were leaving the hospital room a few moments ago.” Everyone gave their full attention to the duo as they began to speak.

“Through my door, I found a document describing a neurotoxin called Korem-23,” Sprockets began. “It was discovered by Dr. Andrea Korem, and evidently, it’s very hard to create. It must be kept in temperatures at around 30- -10 degrees, otherwise, it’ll evaporate or solidify. It is also a very tricky toxin, as the resources required to make it are hard to acquire, and it can only be administered as a liquid.”

A nest of 5 or more heads on long, serpentine necks, with the lump of flesh at the center of the heads sprouting wide wings, a shrieking terror flies through the sky with a deadly purpose; to curse or kill everyone it encounters. Five sets of venomous jaws, a scream that can paralyze with fear, and a kiss that will curse and destroy its victims, a single shrieking terror can spell the downfall of an entire city if not checked. Even its death may not stop the horror, as dozens or hundreds may transform after it is finally brought down, creating a flight of heads spreading the infection even further.

There’s also a bit of a bonus in this update, as 13th Age doesn’t have vargouille stats anywhere in its SRD, so I’m adding that in as a bonus. Can’t have a monster that turns people into a vargouille without also having a vargouille, after all.

5th Edition

The shrieking terror has 5 heads. While it has more than one head, the shrieking terror has advantage on saving throws against being blinded, charmed, deafened, frightened, stunned, or knocked unconscious. Whenever the shrieking terror takes 20 or more damage in a single turn, one of its heads dies. If all its heads die, the shrieking terror dies. At the end of its turn, it grows two heads for each of its heads that died since its last turn, unless it has taken acid damage since its last turn. The shrieking terror regains 10 hit points for each head regrown in this way. Reactive Heads. For each head the shrieking terror has beyond one, it gets an extra reaction that can be used only for opportunity attacks. Actions Multiattack. The shrieking terror makes as many bite attacks as it has heads. It can replace any number of bite attacks with an equal number of uses of its Kiss. Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6+4) piercing damage plus 10 (3d6) poison damage. Kiss. The shrieking terror kisses one incapacitated humanoid or hydra within 5 feet of it. The target must succeed on a DC 14 Charisma saving throw or become cursed. The cursed target loses 1 point of Charisma after each hour, as its head takes on fiendish aspects. The curse doesn't advance while the target is in sunlight or the area of a daylight spell; don't count that time. When the cursed target's Charisma becomes 2, it dies, and its head tears from its body and becomes a vargouille if it was humanoid, or another shrieking terror if it was a hydra. Casting remove curse, greater restoration, or a similar spell on the target before the transformation is complete can end the curse. Doing so undoes the changes made to the target by the curse. Stunning Shriek. The shrieking terror shrieks. Each humanoid, beast, and hydra within 60 feet of the shrieking terror and able to hear it must succeed on a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the end of the shrieking terror's next turn. While frightened in this way, a target is stunned. If a target's saving throw is successful, or the effect ends for it, the target is immune to the Stunning Shriek of all vargouilles and shrieking terrors for 1 hour.

13th Age

Shrieking Terror Triple-strength 6th-level spoiler [demon] Initiative +11 Poisonous Bite +11 vs. AC (5 attacks) - 8 damage plus 4 poison damage Natural even hit or miss: The shrieking terror can replace it’s next attack this turn (if it has one) with a kiss attack instead. On a fourth failure, the target dies and its head rips off to become a vargouille. C: Stunning Shriek +11 vs. MD (1d4 nearby enemies) - The target is dazed (save ends) Natural 16+: The target is stunned instead of dazed. Limited Use: 1/round as a quick action, if the escalation die is even. Flight. Roiling Swirl: If the shrieking terror has at least two poisonous bite attacks left during a turn, it can expend one of those attacks to move to engage a nearby enemy as a free action (but it will take opportunity attacks for doing so). Too Tough To Trick: Whenever the shrieking terror would suffer any of the following conditions, it ignores the condition and takes 5 damage instead. Sprout 6th Head: The first time the shrieking terror is staggered, as a free action it gains 45 hit points and a sixth poisonous bite attack, and is considered undamaged at its new hit point total. Using the shrieking terror’s current hit points as a new baseline, the shrieking terror will be staggered again when it drops below 50% of that total. Sprout seventh head: The second time the shrieking terror is staggered, as a free action it gains 4 hit points and a seventh poisonous bite attack, etc. Use a new hit point baseline as before, but there is no eighth head waiting to sprout. Top Surgery Experience/Two Years Update

This post has been sitting in my drafts for... almost two years now. But today (June 29, 2020) is my two-year anniversary of my top surgery, so I wanted to finally share the photos and descriptions of the immediate recovery and the results two years out.

First off, about me: I had surgery on June 29, 2018 with Dr. Adam Tobias in Boston. I was not and had never been on testosterone at the time. Dr. Tobias does have a BMI limit, which I was on the cusp of - since I had no other health problems, they were able to go ahead, but I have heard other people had problems with it.

I was generally very happy with my experience with Dr. Tobias. His staff of nurses were all fantastic (friendly and responsive), and I had a good experience at the hospital overall. My preferred name was on all of my paperwork, including my hospital ID bracelet; my pronouns (they/them) were on some of the paperwork, but the other people I came in contact with tended to use he/him by default when they saw what procedure I had, which was fine by me. Not being misgendered made the whole process so much more bearable.

July 3 - 4 days post op. The drains were definitely the worst part - they weren’t too painful on their own but I couldn’t really put my arms down comfortably and I had to sleep on my back, propped up. I was still in a fair amount of pain in general - I couldn’t use my arms for much at all that first week, including pushing myself out of bed. I was on extra strength tylenol and oxycodone both at first, but was able to stop the oxy after 3 days or so.

July 6 - 1 week post op. Last picture before the drains came out! You can see the swelling’s gone down a bit.

July 8 - 9 days post op. The drains came out at one week, and so did the hard nipple dressings. For the next two weeks I kept xeroform dressings on the nipples, gauze dressings on the drain sites, and I had to wear a compression band 24 hours a day (except for showers). I didn’t get a picture of the compression band, but that wasn’t fun either. I was able to wean off the tylenol as well after about a week and a half. After day 10, I could shower with my back to the water spray - best shower of my life.

July 14 - 15 days post op. Starting to look a little more human - the incision was pretty healed at this point so I could start washing off the skin glue and marker along it. The yellow haze over the nipples is buildup from the xeroform, which is just gauze soaked in a sticky yellow antibiotic ointment. The bruising below the incision is from the drains, and the rest of the redness and bruising is from the compression. My skin also got very dry and itchy below the incision, being sort of newly exposed.

July 22 - 23 days post-op. This week made a big difference. I was able to stop using the compression at my “three weeks” appointment on the 17th, although I continued all the dressings. Most of the bruising had healed, I could take real showers, the nipple grafts were finishing scabbing and I was gaining more and more arm movement range and strength every day.

July 29 - 30 days post op. I got a cool shirt in Provincetown and had to show it off with my new chest. The nipple grafts were pretty much healed here and I had stopped using the dressings on them.

August 1 - 33 days post op. The nipple grafts were healing well and starting to re-pigment around the edges. I started doing scar massage on the incision (a little later than recommended). Everything was still a little tender - I wasn't leaning on things or holding anything heavy against my chest, and although I recovered a lot of my range of motion, I still couldn't really reach straight above my head. I didn’t drive again until about 3.5 weeks post op - having my arms in front of me for that long was uncomfortable, I wasn’t able to twist my upper body in the seat to look around, and the seatbelt chafed against the incision. The drain sites were slow to close (I still had band-aids under my arms in this picture), but they weren't infected - just taking a little more time.

August was the last recovery photo I took - it took another month or so for me to be able to reach my arms straight up over my head comfortably, but I did start going to the gym during that time (I just modified exercises like lat pulldowns so I didn't have to reach all the way up). I also did pretty minimal scar care because I don't have strong feelings about my scars being visible, so I can't speak to the effectiveness of any of those methods.

Here I am today: two years post-op, just under 5 months on testosterone. I've regained a little sensation around the scars, though of course the actual scar tissue and nipple grafts are still completely numb. I'm overall really happy with the results! When I'm not flexing, I have noticeable man-boobs because of my weight, and the scars run right across them instead of under them, which I don't love aesthetically. But you can't tell when I have a shirt on, and being confident enough to stand up straight (I'm still unlearning my pre-op slouch lol) and show off my flat chest is amazing. Can't wait to see what testosterone does after a few more months - I do have more hair than before on my chest and stomach, but it's still not enough to be actually noticeable on camera.
