colinjamie have definitely watched the owl house at some point. maybe this is fresh in my head since the final episode just came out a few days ago, but i definitely see colinjamie watching the owl house together. two options:

Thots on the upcoming Tatum/Leighton/Alicia love triangle? Who reigns superior?

Maybe it’s because I have common sense but I don’t understand how you can watch the show and think that Tatum and Leighton will last. The show has one character tell Leighton that she’s clearly in her “twincest phase” - phase being the operative word here. The show also had other characters pointing out that it’s weird/unhealthy for someone’s type to be themselves.

Do I have beef with Tatum? No. Do I think she’s hot? Yes. Do I enjoy watching her and Leighton have sex? Also yes but, I just don’t think it’s built to last. When you’re dating someone who is identical to you (looks and personality wise in this case) the relationship can become boring. That’s why I think there’s a chance that Alicia and Leighton could end up back together. Their relationship was more interesting to watch because they had that push and pull. They challenged one another’s thoughts and beliefs and became better people for it.

I think people have amnesia and forget that Leighton wasn’t out at all when she was dating Alicia and they villanize Alicia for trying to protect her own feelings and mental health. Tatum doesn’t get upset at Leighton for not wanting to come out to her dad at dinner because, as she said to Leighton’s face, they’d only been dating for like a fucking week. It would be strange of her to demand Leighton come out right then and there. Tatum also gets the benefit of being out with Leighton on campus and around peers. Alicia was being treated like a dirty secret for months. Leighton wouldn’t invite her to events in case they were seen together and someone got the wrong idea. Leighton had a full on melt down when a quarter inch of her purse was in the background of a photo. Alicia had all the right in the world to set boundaries and tell Leighton that she needed to work on some stuff because it’s one thing to be closeted and it’s another to try and drag someone else back in there with you.

My final thots are:

- I have no beef with Alicia but I do have beef with her shitty haircut

- I have no beef with Tatum. She’s hot 🥵

- I think the show might have Alicia and Leighton get back together because s1 was giving right person-wrong time trope. S2 with out and proud Leighton might give us a right person-right time scenario where the two can finally be together like a normal couple

- if they don’t proceed with the romantic relationship between Alicia and Leighton then I think they’re gonna make them friends (bc hello lesbians! Friends with their exes!!) and all that’ll happen is Alicia will basically just give her a little pep talk where she says she’s proud of Leighton for finally living her truth

- in the grand scheme of things, I don’t see either relationship being endgame. I think Leighton will end up with someone completely different by the end of the show (if it doesn’t get cancelled bc jfc hbo max). I think it would make sense and be kinda healthy for her to date more than two people. She doesn’t need to end up with her first gf or the identical girl she dated when she was fresh out of the closet

- I’m rooting for her next girlfriend to be a hot, dumb jock. Maybe a basketball or lacrosse player. Just absolutely no thots up there in that beautiful head of hers. All she knows is that she loves Leighton 🥰🫶🏻

AAA??? SO. JOHN GOT PUSHOVER-ED INTO A JOB (he works for the city now oh dear), WHERE HE MET A WOMAN NAMED CLARA WHO MIGHT HAVE A CRUSH ON HIM? AND WHILE WAITING FOR SHELBY TO PICK HIM UP HE TRIED TO APOLOGIZE TO MARKUS, right- who btw made a wish for people to forget about their bug ability things- and John tried to apologize and was all "listen i dont quite remember what happened, im so sorry, but it wont happen again! look im fixed, its ok" and markus was all "u didnt need fixing, u were my friend," which kinda short-circuited john a little bit (bc hello? what do they mean he didnt need to be fixed?).

Meanwhile, it's revealed Karen started a homeowners association and the rest of the Main Cast decides to fuck around and be spiteful, while John is busy despairing over shelby telling him she started a hello fresh sponsorship and is going to use the kitchen for a cooking stream. Markus pours sugar into the gas tanks of people who signed the HOA (and even fills two of their houses with cockroaches, including Lestat's), Louis makes plans to build a radio tower bc u can do that ig, and Song buys a shit ton of lawn decorations, including lawn gnomes which she puts in her garage (btw, the general store is totally supernatural. aisles for whatever you need just show up).

[We take a break. We joke about how no one is normal in this goddamn town, and the Sumpaths are mentioned as an example of a normal family. The next morning a neighbor has a yard sale, and Markus gets a millennium falcon lego set to give to shelby, and she and john plan to build it together later ☆

Louis tells Markus about his radio plan, Markus accidentally slips they were the one who fucked up the niegubors cars, and they go to buy spray paint so Markus can paint their house to continue to fuck with the HOA. On the way there Mark tells Louis they think john hates him now bc of the door thing (cue me yelling in despair). Louis suggests maybe John was also freaked out by what happened in the s1 finale, and didnt know what the others would think of him. Markus considers this. They get the paint.

Meanwhile, over to Song: Fatima (amiras mom) joins in for a session, right, bc last time amira came home a bit upset (bc of the death vision thing) and amira is outside setting up the archery stuff. Fatima asks Song about Lucretius aka Lestat (she wants gossip, spill the tea girl) and they talk about the HOA and how it fucking sucks. Anyway Amira comes in and is all "yo song ur garage smells weird" nd song is all "What" and so they go over there and it smells like GAS. oh no, yknow And the fucking LAWN GNOMES ARE ALIVE, RIGHT. and theyre messing with the propane tank on the grill and one strikes a match and song gets the two other ladies out of the way, and fatima is unharmed. And they look over at Amira and she sits up and she seems a bit dazed, right, but not in any pain, but a third of her face is burned off and theres a metal exoskeleton, BC I WAS RIGHT, BABEY!!! ROBOT

Yay me 🥳🥳 I thought I take this time to ramble a bit about my thought process with my designs (⁠ㆁ⁠ω⁠ㆁ⁠) Mostly because I didn't wanna yell all over the other posts and make them less rebloggable 😆

Imma post my sketches as visual aid so I'm not just posting my art again (⁠人⁠ ⁠•͈⁠ᴗ⁠•͈⁠)

Paper sketches:

This whole project was partly inspired by StellaSolaris each girl's worst trait post, that's been living in my head rent free forever now. Taking the girls worst traits and using them to make dark faries more dynamics instead of just evil™ was something I have been always wanted to do, mostly because using dark faries as a way to explore the girls personalities is something that speaks to me!! It's just such a fun concept so I had to run with it

I use the Believix aesthetics for Charmix, so all the dark faries are Believix adjacent an that was intentional because I felt like I could do more with the Believix aesthetic over magic winx

If you can't tell, I had a vision™ for Bloom, Stella, and Tecna, (especially Bloom, kid core, homecoming dress, I knew what I was going for) while Musa, Aisha, and Flora absolutely ate me alive in the design process. It was so hard to get any ideas for their outfits

I couldn't fit Musa's chain in T-T it looked too weird

Bloom:

Bloom was absolutely the easiest, her dress is cute, she's cuter

I went kidcore with her makeup, loved to add the burns, didn't like the belt, I just loved the baby doll aesthetic. Fit the vibe of unhinged naive magical girlie perfectly

Stella:

Stella's whole outfit was supposed to accentuate her attention seeking behavior but like...it's not really that provocative T-T Musa has her whole ass panties out in s1, this ain't shit, but please take pity on me I didn't want to push it any further

Note her hair is also supposed to be so excessively long and lose that it's a huge liability in combat but it's also just her Enchantix hair T-T she's making things so difficult

She's the one that looks the least crazy, she just looks like she's having a fashion day™ and wanted to be extra and not like...a manifestation of her worst vain and inattentive nature T-T

At least her outfit looks cool as fucking shit, like drop dead gorgeous if I do say so my self

The symbol found on the final version of her outfit is the symbol for platinum, if you were curious

Flora:

I wanted to go for rotting corpse being reclaimed by nature, moss eating her outfit, eyes sunken in, but I don't think it came across well. I added lilys bc they're funeral flowers :)

Trying to get an outfit to represent Flora's defensive personality without making the outfit too heavyweight and evening-gown like was hard but I like the aesthetic. Hopefully I get it next time

Tecna:

I decided to uncover Tecna's face because Tecna's traits are uncompromising and head strong, so leaving everything but her head uncovered was a fun little refrence to that being her leading trait

That is the mercury symbol on her head, which is the alchemchemic symbol for the mind. I think it was a cute reference but I decided not to keep

(It also represents passive femininity and Tecna as a non-binary transfem matches that as well which is funky and fresh)

Tecna's wings were a struggle but they turned out so sexi that I'm so so so happy with them. Tecna weird ass wings 4 life I love u bby girl

Musa:

The only thing I had in mind for this was "Musa has a mental break down" that's it. Designing a mental break down outfit for a transform without going full Harely Quinn was a fuckin difficulty. That pants and top combo was pried out of my references in blood, the stockings were easy tho. Nothing says mental break down like fighting in fucked up stockings, running make-up, and fucked up bangs

Ren's comment about Musa having a mental break down and chopping her hair into the Believix style inspired this look, it spoke to me. I needed to give Musa "showing up at your ex's door at 3am in the rain with a pair of scissors" chic XD

She looks so cool, but gosh those pants were hard to draw

Aisha:

I put Aisha in a power suit because stubborn reminds me of the time I refused to wear a dress to homecoming and my mom called me stubborn XD I think she looks good in it :)

I've always wanted to give Aisha amphibian traits over fish traits, so that the Sea Andros that's cold blooded and land Andros that is warm blooded both look water-y but in different ways and I think axolotls are cool so this was me just trying them out lol

The water damage was so damn hard to draw because how do you draw water damage?? It's like worn out clothes??? I tried my best (⁠*⁠´⁠ω⁠｀⁠*⁠) she looks super cool tho

Redemption Road -misc/600+k. an incredibly long fic from a collaborative writing group back in the day. canon divergent from the end of s6 on, has a cool take on godstiel and the leviathans, as well as the lovecratian mythos connection. ngl when i reread it i only made it about 28% in but imo the casual reader can actually stop around there, the rest concerns a lovecraftian apocalypse that is still good (i think i don’t remember it very well) but not required to enjoy the first half. if you prefer i have an ebook version i can send you on gdrive.

Someone Who's Feeling For Me* - mature/45k, s12. they run into lisa braeden and dean thinks cas is into her while cas thinks dean still likes her. treats lisa way better than the show ever did and the miscommunication is pretty funny rather than annoying.

a turn of the earth - mature/95k. time travel fic where cas from s10 keeps showing up in deans life from a few years before s1 to right before the hellhounds take his soul.  slow burn, good character study, and at one point cas punches the dad in the face and it rules.

On the Wings of War - teen/85k, canon divergent s5. dean accidentally becomes the Horseman of War. plays fun, fast and loose with biblical lore, michael has some rights.

Named - mature/95k, alternate s5. EXTREMELY blasphemous in a fun sexy way. manages to predict metatron almost to a T. there’s one major character death and its literally jesus christ, everyone is very sad about it and it sets the rest of the story rolling. an alternate interpretation of cas’ mission to raise dean from hell which had me on the floor. ngl its kind of misogynistic at points, but its from 2010 and tracks with late oughts-2010 spn (sorry anna the author did you dirty here:/).

The Girlfriend Experience - explicit/15k. uhhh i don’t normally rec or even read smutty stuff unless someone i know is specifically asking for it but this has stuff like sam trying to be a good ally and dean thinking holding hands with cas is ‘kinda gay :/’ minutes after having gay sex with him.

i crippled your heart a hundred times - explicit/19k, s8. cas confesses his feelings and dean spends a long time getting his head out of his ass about it. truly hits different after the actual confession, despite being written six years early it feels like its actually what could have gone down more or less if the writers weren’t talentless demons who hate us.

Autrement, Danger - or, The Account of an Exceedingly Long Day - mature/30k, post s11. a monster that takes the appearance of your soulmate leads to some wild miscommunications and dealing with years of repression, also dean gets to see cas’ true form which is always cool. tw for non-graphic mentions of underage sexual assault/sex work.

Down to Agincourt - mature/explicit/900++++k, endverse continuation. endverse!cas survives his encounter with lucifer and discovers another time-displaced dean from s7. i’ve only read the two of four parts but its really good, veeeeery slow burn, has a lot of fun oc’s and takes a rather surprising but (imo) entertaining and intriguing turn into Hellenic history and mythology. usual tw’s for endverse/endverse!cas but nothing graphic, it’s actually pretty light-hearted (relatively speaking of course).

Nothing Equals the Splendor** - explicit/8k, THEE finale fix it fic you’ve been waiting for! posits that the entire final episode was just a (very bad and lame) djinn’s vision.

like moses and batman and james dean - explicit/31k, post s8. explores dean’s trauma and internalized homophoba from his technically canon experience with sex work and its impact on his relationship with cas. the sex work itself isn’t really shown in any detail but it’s still a relatively heavy fic.

Crazy Diamonds - explicit/25k, s4/alternate s14. fresh-out-of-hell dean and dean from 10 years in the future are displaced from time and sent to each other’s present.

where the weeds take root - explicit/30k. au where the men of letters kick them out of the bunker and they accidentally move out into the country, get over their codependence and semi retire. featuring chicken coop building, sam volunteering at a dog shelter, gardening, and blissfully mundane domesticity.

• You Make Me Want To Scream (14+) - Legion of Horribles Era Scarejokes. They get caught by GCPD for dumb reasons (graffiti...) and while in lockup awaiting transfer to Arkham Jonathan has a panic attack (reason currently undecided, mostly bc he doesn't have his mask/hood, but I wanna add more spice to it.) and to help him calm down Jerome takes off his shirt and puts it over his head to help him calm down. that's it that's the fic. JK the rest of the LoH break them out and life continues.

• Antidote Sequel (16+) - A sequel to my fic Antidote. Just causal soft retired from crime scarejokes. fluff and hurt comfort, figuring out relationships, making out, heavy petting, but no sex bc consent is important and Jon isn't ready.

• Mr Mayor, sir (18+) - a rare nygmobblepot fic! au where Isabella never existed and Ed and Oz get together. heavy dom/sub vibes, Dom Oz of course. Low-key sugar daddy Oz. Don't have much of an outline for this, so it'll be a while.

• Dark Desires (18+ dead dove) - s4 pre Jeremiah reveal, Jerome kidnaps Bruce with the intention to torture him while broadcasting it live on television, but gets the wicked idea to fuck him instead. dub con with Bruce hesitantly coming to love it by the end. Lots of knife and gun kink.

• Fresh Meat (18+ dead dove) - trans Jonathan! takes place when he first arrives in Arkham late s1. some dubcon/sexual coercion with Jerome and Greenwood teaming up to fuck him in a threesome. I actually have part of an outline written HERE

UNKNOWN LENGTH

• The Sketchbook - (?? likely 16+) - Scarejokes. Legion of Horribles era. Jerome snoops in Jonathan's notebook/sketchbook/journal and discovers Jonathan might have feelings for him and doesn't know how to feel about that. If i leave it as a one shot it could finalize with some fluffy feeling confessions. But I'm an angst lord who loves hurt/comfort (with lots of initial hurt) and for a multi chap idea maybe Jervis has some very strong feelings for Jonathan and tries to make a move on him, and Jerome saves him. Jon leaves the LoH bc he doesn't feel comfortable anymore around Jervis but they need him for Plans (Jon leaves behind his research, which Fries could finish from there) Jerome tracks down Jonathan bc he feels guilty and there's a lovely slowburn of them sort of leaning on each other and building each other up and healing as well as they can with their traumas. oh no I've turned this into another retire from crime AU FUCK I love this trope.

• Chemical Spill (18+ leaning dead dove) - S4 Legion of Horribles era, Jonathan makes a mistake and in a lab accident is mentally deaged/looses his memory to before his father finished his experiments with his fear "cure." I don't have much in the means of plot but I can see it becoming multi chap, possibly smut drabbles of the LoH taking advantage of his accident.

MULTI CHAP

• Caught (16+) - s5 au where Jeremiah just never goes crazy and the J Squad has been reigning terror on Gotham for a few months, until Jerome and Jonathan get caught. Jonathan gets caught in the scuffle and almost dies. it's got lots of angst and hurt/comfort. semi complete outline HERE

• Longs Nights (?? likely 16+ bc of mentions and references to sex, past assault, things like that. Ive also not decided on the Graphic-ness of a certain Important chapter, but that could be 18+ in a way.) - I have dreamt of this fic so much. Mid season 5-ish, when Lee has returned and is caring for Barbara's pregnancy. First chapter has Jonathan randomly showing up in Lee's office at the clinic being very vague about things until Lee manages to wiggle out that someone is pregnant and needs help, in which Jonathan admits it's him. (trans Jon C: ) Lee asks about terminating but he's several months along already and admits he's begrudgingly grown attached. idk I just really want to write a pregnancy fic. that's just plot for the first chapter, I got so much planned, including Jon not knowing who the dad is. mention of past Scarejokes, some side hattercrow (Jervis thinks he's the dad) with later batcrow (Bruce was at lees clinic trying to find some way to help him sleep when Jon shows up in early labor, and he ends up helping Lee deliver, and sticks by Jon's side and defends him when Jim and others are like "he's dangerous take the baby away from him!" They develop feelings for each other, bonded by Jon's very harrowing and high risk labor.

• ESCFF chapter 4 (18+ dead dove) - Jervis finally lays his claim and takes Jonathan's virginity, with surprising gentleness because Jon is still shaken from his assault last chapter. I'm debating between it being a soft quiet event in Jon's cell, or Jervis being a possessive ass and claiming him in the rec room for everyone to see so they know Jon is his.

• Arkham Haze (18+ dead dove) - another trans Jon pregnancy fic but this one is FUCKED up. he's in arkham. I have a whole outline written Here.

• The Crow (16+) multichap - A Crow origin/intro fic set in the pov of Edward in Arkham. s3 AU. Edward is moved to a high security wing, where he finds himself with an exceptionally strange neighbor. One of Hugo Strange's monsters. They have wings. They're young. And sad. And covered in scars. Edward can't help but feel for them. technically it's planned to be only nygmobblepot later on, but idk could have future Ed/Crow

• testing, testing (18+) one shot - Subject CA-13, or Crow for short, is being tested. it's not rare it's given tests, but this one is different. they want to test if it can have children? that's odd. hey... it doesnt want to be touched like that. stop it. stop it!

• a helping hand (18+) one shot - set after Ed (and later Crow) are released from Arkham. Mayor Cobblepot time period. Ed likes to ask random questions, and one day asks if Crow can have children. Crow recounts their experience in the past (testing, testing) and how they can't. one thing leads to another and Ed gives Crow a very soft and sensual handjob. planning on having implied trans Ed bc :)

TITANS

• Feed the Monster Inside (16+ likely) OS with ability for MC - I so desperately wish I remembered my plans for this. Mid season 3 AU, Jason escapes Jonathan. Cut off from the fear cure cold turkey, he's hit with horrible guilt and the weight of his recent traumas has reached rock bottom. Dick hesitantly bring him back home to the rest of the Titans so he can heal. This is all I remember :(

• Untitled (16+) short MC or long OS - A hanahaki fic, post S2. Jason has feelings for Gar, one of the few people at Titans tower who actually cared about him. Jason doesn't want to confess his feelings yet refuses to get the hanahaki removed. When he's on his death bed Bruce finally breaks his stoic silence he's had about it (he knew and kept it secret) and told Dick and the Titans Jason was dying and should come visit asap before it's too late. Bruce and Lee are convinced even if Jason's feeling become requited its still too late, there's been too much damage done to his lungs. Titans show up, lots of crying and begging for Jason to confess but he refuses to. One night when Gar is watching over him he quietly mumbles a soft "please, please don't die. I don't know what I'd do without you. I love you, please." And quite suddenly Jason is coughing like crazy. Blood, full flowers and leaves. Gar is convinced Jason is literally in the act of dying until in a show of absolutely horror Jason sticks his hand in his mouth and withdraws a blood covered stalk of Aster, roots and all. His love was requited. And he lives! after a long time in a hospital recovering. his lungs are very weak so he cannot fight crime anymore my boy has asthma and lungs that will collapse at the drop of a hat. him and gar are bfs :)

• Later is Better Than Never: (18+) OS - JayGar. Post S3. The night before the Titans leave back for San Fran a very drunk Jason breaks into Gar's room via the window and convinces him to have sex with him before he has to leave.

• Sensations (18+) OS - my rarepairs strike again with Hank/Jay. post s2 au where Jason never left the Titans. Blindfold training trope and impact play. Jason gets whiney bc Hank keeps hitting him with a baton in the same spots from different angles he can't predict and Hank teases him and says "Oh do I have to teach you how to take a hit too?" And makes him stand blindfolded while he just starts with poking and prodding him in sensitive places before upping the strength of his hits with intermittent teasing touches. Jason of course gets aroused by it.

• Sleeping Beauty (18+ dead dove) OS - S3. Jason wakes up after being revived in the Lazarus pit to Jonathan fucking him. that's it that's the fic. got borderline necro vibes bc of Jason was "alive" after the revival but hadn't regain consciousness yet.

• Just another SladeJayDick Fic (18+ dead dove) - S2 Fuck or Die. Slade previously raped Jason during his capture, and when Dick came to give himself up to Slade, Slade forced Dick to also fuck Jason or he would kill him, though he promised to let them both go afterwards. Fic is all sorts of fucked with Dick trying to comfort Jason during the fact. Slade hates that and decides to step in to makes things worse. Ends with them both very disheveled leaving the building, where the rest of the Titans catch up with them.

CROSSOVER/MISC FICS

Gotham/Titans -- New World, New Rules (15+) MC - Post 3.14 of Gotham, Bruce somehow ends up in the Titans universe. Late S3 of Titans. Bruce wakes up in Crime Alley and Jason finds him. Jason doesn't wanna bring Bruce back to his base bc he rlly doesn't want Jonathan getting his hands on him, so he begrudgingly takes him to Wayne Manor. There's lots of confusion on how Bruce got here. Idk much on plot. Fluff and angst probably. Jason rejoining the Titans, getting rid of Jonathan. Bruce eventually has to go home somehow.

• Vague Comics Verse/Titans -- Universal Constant (16+) MC - On a very regular patrol, CV Nightwing finds a TV Jason Todd who accidentally dimension travelled to the CV due to a minor startup villain the batfam had dealt with that involved attempting to open dimension portals. Lingering affects drew TV Jason there. Here are some Tags I have for it. Dimension Travel, Comics Jay takes one look at Titans Jay and goes "is anyone gonna adopt this kid" and doesn't wait for an answer, Awkward Relationships, Established Relationship, Fluff, Hurt/Comfort, Bruce Wayne's A+ Parenting (Titans), Bruce Wayne Is A Good Dad (Comics), Jason Todd is Red Hood, Dick Grayson is Nightwing, Mentions of Manipulation and Drug Abuse (Titans), Past Character Death (Jason), Bonding over Hatred of the Joker, "gee little Jay, how come your Bruce killed the Joker?", the batfam is chaotic. It has CV JayDick but not in TV.

• Vague Comics Verse -- Ivy's Pollen (18+) OS - JayDick. Kinda what it says on the tin. Starts with them making their way home after a fight with Poison Ivy, seemingly lucky because Ivy used a pollen they were immunized to. Plot twist they were NOT it was just slow acting. They collapse into a horny mess in an alley and have sex. bottom Jason :). Bit of implied unrequited love on Jason's part as well.

• Universe is Dubious -- Indulgence (18+) OS - Jason/OMC. Jason's age is also dubious besides he's too young to drink. He gets drunk in a skeezy bar because he's been having some vaguely defined struggles lately. Cute guy flirts with him, Jason flirts back. They decide to hook up in cute guys car. It's Jason's first time with a dude but he still wants it super rough. Any sort of distraction is good. Begging, hair pulling, crying. All those good.

hehe just generally I thank god that these two women exist in the TMA world as well as my head, rent free. When Melanie first came in during S1 I was like “👀 I AM LOOKING” and every moment she’s returned, my heart swells with love and maaaaayybe just a BIT of,,,,,pining.... And the breath of fresh air that Georgie brings into the series in S3/S4 as well as just like...!!!!! caring for Jon gets me every time and it’s my personal opinion that it’s the love, care and affect that Georgie has as a person that allows Jon (and later Melanie) to pursue being healthy, traumatized individuals (lol we love to see it). When Georgie first tells Jon that he needs anchors is probably one of my most favorite parts in the whole series because she’s RIGHT and SHE SHOULD SAY IT, even just in the sense that isolating yourself (especially when you are in danger or struggling with something) is not the way to go. you shouldn’t be afraid to ask for help, and even though she may not have entirely understood what Jon was//is going through via eldritch horrors and such, she’s still RIGHT and wants what’s best for her people and wants them to take care of themselves. This directly translates to when Melanie decides to stop working, go to therapy, and eventually quit the archives. When I say I SCREAMED when Melanie decided to go to therapy, I am not exaggerating one bit. This WOMAN, in the wake of so much fucking trauma, serving as an avatar of the Slaughter, with the hopelessness that comes with being quite literally trapped in the institute and literally all other aspects of her life being stripped from her decided (having a LOT to do with Georgie 🥺) that she wanted to GROW and continue to pursue PEACE (I want to say happiness but let’s just go with peace rn bc honestly how much happiness is attainable after The Magnus Institute?). Melanie KNEW that even if she couldn’t escape, she wanted to actively do nothing via the terrors that the Institute//The Eye were orchestrating because she did not want to be apart of anything as harming as that, and though physically bound, she was going to disengage and do what she could to avoid. She ALSO recognized that bitches need therapy and that if she was going to try and feel better//become better//learn more about the possibilities of a better life, she would need to change what she was doing as THAT WASN’T IT CHIEF. And then FINALLY--deciding to fucking quit despite the horror that comes with the act was what Melanie felt she needed to do, as a person, for herself because of her morals and her values which of course have always been there but have been pushed to the forefront of our consciousnesses BECAUSE of the QUEEN that is Georgie Barker!!!!!

 ANYWAYS the STRENGTH that wtgfs have together as a unit is unmatched but it’s because of one another that they are able to continue on. Georgie actively makes Melanie a better person, not through changing her but encouraging personal growth. Though we don’t get a great glimpse into Georgie’s life other than snippets of S3, I would like to hope and head cannon that Melanie does the same for Georgie and that they serve one another in ways that are so greatly appreciated💖🥺 wtgfs water my crops, feed my children, save my town from flooding and famine, and live in my head and heart rent free. Also THE ADMIRAL IS GOD THEM SELF AND BETTER THAN ANY BEING IN THE TMA AND THIS UNIVERSE OKAY COOL THAT’S ALL FOR NOW THANKS FOR COMING TO MY TEDTALK (but also if anything i said interested u or want me to say anything else about wtgfs pls let me know, I will always have something more to say but figured this was long enough for the first ask hehe😅

30 what are your overall thoughts about the season 2 finale?

um i had thoughts. events of it were fine. liked them tbh. didn’t like vibe bc it felt suddenly weirdly predatory dyke and nonconsensual. personally i will never be more in love with anything than s1 so that’s just a given, doesn’t mean i don’t love the rest of the show (@ those who freaked out that ppl had any criticisms like it’s not allowed... y’all entirely wack)

bc i’m bitter. Blaine tries to turn his life around, but get caught in a lie and fuck it up for himself due to his own insecurities and fear of rejection. it’s more tragic if he still tried to behave himself even after his lie was exposed, and it was the hit from Angus that dragged him back into his old life after he got his retribution. like he was all angry but also defeated when don e showed up and told him they were taking his clients. he was just resigned to his miserableness. he was that devastated over losing his new life, nothing mattered to him anymore. and yeah. the fact he was with Peyton while lying is no doubt problematic and i’m mad at them for getting me on board with that and then pulling the rug out from under me…

But in my mind, he was still going to try and start anew even if she chose Ravi. even after his lie was exposed, and he knew he wouldn’t change how they saw him…he knew he was capable of doing good, and would have kept doing it. imo. He stopped caring about the business when he was in his depressed funk. Candy had to get on him about the orders. He wouldn’t have stolen the cures, because in that state, he didn’t care. he was so apathetic about everything. it took nearly getting killed for him to have a sense of what to do with himself. and yeah, they showed him with the blue juice recipe. that’s what i mean by inconsistent. one episode he’s all “well at least i have this and i can be dastardly” and the next he’s drunkenly singing love songs and moping and neglecting the business. You’re telling me that Blaine stole the cures, went shopping for the blue juice ingredients, and then went to get drunk and sing his set? nah son.

Which goes into the whole “i think there was more to the Natalie situation than we got, but they changed it bc she left the show for a new one and they were reduced back to 13 eps.”

Not just the inconsistency of her having money, and of Oates not finding her like she said he would. esp. when she was amnesiac…but they had the bodyguard see Ravi’s ID, and note where he worked. There had to have been a reason for that.If she told him about the cure and used it to barter her freedom.If she sold the information to them or something…because if she said she got it from Major, and his friend Ravi, then they’d know to ransack the morgue. For that matter, when she escaped, you don’t think they’d go looking for her with the guys who tried to save her from them? but like. if Ravi hadn’t slept with Katty Kupps and if pavi had sailed in s3. Blaine would have kept working as a lounge singer while also doing shady plots stuff, and he would have been content.

Which goes to ways Blaine could have gotten out of his lie, that someone like Blaine would have thought about. Like.

Why not just get out of his lie with another lie? It would have been in character. Lie and say Ravi’s memory serum works. Major is injected with both at the same time, no one thinks anything of it when his memories come back. then do the same thing when a cure is able to be mass produced. Blaine gets to be happy and be with Peyton. Yes he loses the brain business, but I think he’d be willing to give that up for a fresh start and someone who loves him. Even if he gains it through bad and shifty/dishonest means.

Let’s not forget that was the episode where he had to sign the millions in inheritance back to Angus. if he that had not happened and he had all that money to fall back on? my trashy lil dude is set. so yeah. that was inconsistent and Lazy and this verse ignores that. open to all.

S4 was all over the place and Not Good imo. idk if that is due to the episode count or if they changed things when they realized they had promoted a predator... but you have the Renegade stuff, the FG stuff, and the angus stuff.

Which wound up being all filler. like. why not tie it all together and have Angus as the ultimate big bad? not that i wanted fuckface to get more screentime. but like. how about Angus’ cult his plan to team up with FG from S3? if Blaine or don e tell them?

IT DOESN’T EVEN COME INTO PLAY AT ALL IN S4 WHEN FUCKFACE RETURNS. NO ONE CALLS HIM OUT ON HATING FILLMORE-GRAVES, REMINDING HIM OF HIS PLAN. HOW AWESOME WOULD IT HAVE BEEN IF THIS WAS EXPOSED TO HIS CHURCH AND THEY TORE HIM APART LIKE THE HYENAS DID SCAR IN THE LION KING?

And they never mention Blaine killing chase’s brother/Vivian’s husband Harrison. Now there are two tangents I could go into here. the first is how Blaine storyline in the back half of S3 may have suffered due to Andrea Savage leaving the show for her own series, I’m Sorry.

It’s possible we would have seen her and Blaine face off if she learned he presumably killed her husband Harrison.  but like. they still could have done that with chase. chase is Harrison brother. he worked with Blaine. he is smart enough and would easily be able to figure out that Blaine was the OG brain supplier and would have been the one to kill his brother.

Once he no longer needed Blaine, i.e. was done with his blackmail? He would have but him in the guillotine. I expected this. I expected Blaine to pull the same card he pulled on Liv in S1. That without him, they have a zombie apocalypse on their hands. There was a brain shortage prior to the outbreak when Blaine approached him in the S3 finale. In S4 it’s even worse. There’s even a plot about Major tracking down watered down brain tube dealers.

Chase is a proud man, he wouldn’t have gone back to Blaine automatically… but after the US Government cuts off the brain supply in the finale, Major enlists Blaine to increase his operations.You don’t think that in the middle of the brain shortage crisis, Chase would have bitten the bullet and remembered Blaine’s proposal?

Ok, at this point, you’re probably asking yourself. “Mmhm, okay, so maybe that’s a better plot for Blaine… but then who did steal the cures?”

Again, see the last verse. Osborn Oates. Don’t remember him? Yeah, neither do any of the characters, apparently. He was the guy who was Natalie’s captor. Who apparently had the the influence to bribe Max Rager guards under Vaughn Du Clark’s nose. He was described by Ravi as being like a Bond villain. Natalie warns Major that wherever he goes, he’ll find her, but then… he doesn’t.

She travels the world. He doesn’t track her down. Even when she herself would have been vulnerable and amnesiac.

He doesn’t even try to track down Major and find out what he knows… if he was responsible for her escape. We know he is aware of Major. Major and Ravi followed he and his body guard.His body guard even checked Ravi’s morgue ID, and would have known where the cures were kept had he known about the cures.

Which… I think, Natalie might have told him about, in an effort to barter her freedom. Remember when we first met her? She said that since she was paid in brains by Blaine, who had become her pimp after turning her, that she ran through her savings and was broke. Yet… when she returns in S3, she tells Major that she traveled the world and had a place in Italy that she got thanks to her savings earned as sex worker.So… what is the truth?

I don’t want to speculate about a villainous Natalie. I actually liked her character, and she was certainly victimized and I don’t want to take away from that at all. Given her desperate situation though, might she have made some choices out of self preservation? Her own best interest?

I think there was more to the Natalie situation than we got. I think it suffered because they went from 19 episodes in season 2 back to a 13 episode order. I don’t know if her exit had more to do with propelling Major’s character’s decisions, or if because Natalie’s actress Brooke Lyons had gotten work as a series regular on the show Life Sentence. Maybe a bit of both? Maybe they did plan to kill her at the end of the arc, but the arc happened sooner than anticipated due to the shortened season? Knowing that they’d be losing her, they couldn’t carry that thread over to S4?

So instead they just dropped Osborn Oates, and over the summer Rob Thomas decided to change it to Blaine in S4 because no one would question it? Sorry Rob, I question it. You said in post S3 interviews that you planned to reveal who stole the cures in the finale, but there was no time so you’d get to it in S4.Really? That’s why? No time? If you had the time, how would it have come into play? The way it did come into play was Blaine seeking out Mama Leone, because Chase was blackmailing him. Are you telling me Chase would have done that in the S3 finale? That you would have seeded Renegade as a plotline even then?

I’m calling bullshit .I think it’s far more likely that plans fell through, and you needed the time to do a rewrite.

Even if Natalie had nothing to do with the cures being stolen, if it was planned to be Blaine all along…

You kill her off, and she doesn’t even get to confront Blaine? They never have a scene together? He’s responsible for her being a zombie, which led to her being kidnapped, and then held hostage.Yet he helped Major find her when he could have pleaded ignorance. He gave him Oates’ address and let him know when he was back in town. He didn’t have to do that. He could have said that it’s not the address on record, and Major wouldn’t have questioned him.

He could have elected not to tip Major off that he was back in town, and he wouldn’t have been able to find Natalie and give her the cure when he did.I’m not saying this excuses Blaine of what he did to her at all, or that the two would have been “even” or made peace. Not at all. There is no retribution for what he did to her.It does however, go back to my belief he was legit trying to change. open to those who are interested.

How did you discover the show?

I saw it on tumblr a lot, naturally, after s1 dropped it really took off and i was super curious about it because i was a HUGE fan of atla! but i was also like ‘robot... cats...’ and so i didnt watch it right away lmao, ive posted about this before but i ended up watching this amv shortly after it came out and after that i was like ‘i HAVE to watch this’ (just watched the amv again and its still rly good, damn it reminds me how good s1 was........)

Was it love at first sight or did it take you a while to get into the show?

it was completely love at first site!!! u know lance won my heart the second he opened his mouth, and i was impressed right away by how lovely it was, how creative and scifi fun it was, i loved the music and the updated designs and i was in it for the diversity tbh. i knew starting this show could never be undone with ‘girl, youve already activated my particle ba--’ ‘LANCE.’ how poetic is it that a shance moment brought me here 

Do you have a favorite Paladin?

wonder who that could be............ Lance............. my son........ he is so excited and open-hearted, but so capable and smart in so many ways. he has Been There for the team in so many ways, from hugely significant emotional support to skilled tactical coverage, all the way up until he literally died saving a team mate, and this wasnt even his first close call. he can be petty and short-tempered cos hes young and working stuff out, but he is so gotdang selfless and beautiful and charming and i LOVE...

HAGGAR!!! BITCH!!!!!!!!! my bias was skewed from day 1 the second she opened her mouth and cree summers voice came out, and when she started showing concern for zarkon i knew it was over for me, i knew they were gonna cut me deep w her history. ive said since the beginning that haggar was gonna be the main villain, and i believe it more than ever now that voltron kinda killed her husband and lost her son in a void. her backstory reveal rocked me to my core, and i care very much about honerva and haggar!! ive always felt like the final conflict is gonna come down to haggar and allura tbh

rolo, nyma, and beezor hold a rly special place in my heart. i was so excited when they came back!! the blades are very much my Aesthetic (TM), and those mermaid freedom fighters were great, also those married gay rebels posted in that ice cave that helped shiro.... i like a lot of the side characters tbh.

How/Why did you join the fandom?

i came in initially to consume the shallura content tbh (this was before it got “””cancelled””” by antis, and i was very excited to see a black woman in a popular ship for gotdamn once. yea im bitter). i started rping p quick after watching it all, i just really wanted to write lance, then i got into an rp with a keith and the ship was unlocked in my heart for All Time. this was around the time that i stopped drawing, i held on for as long as i could and used to post fanart, but it didnt last long. kept me inspired to keep writing tho, and thats good cos i need to be making something!! now its getting me back into drawing and im thankful for that, big ups to shance fandom within the fandom for being da bes!!

shit... i wasnt ready for this... i dont really have any relevant hcs that i can think of right now! ummmm i think that the garrison knows more than we think, and that there are going to be some Interesting revelations when the team goes home. im suspicious of how quick they were to jump on and contain shiro at the beginning without so much as letting him speak, how close the base was to the blue lion, and the fact that tex kogane saw the lion and was immediately like ‘should we call the garrison?’ (realistically he could be saying that cos, i mean, who else nearby would know about bizarre aircraft than a piloting academy, but still!)

What do you think is the best part of the show?

honestly there is a lot i love about the show, but i guess the Best part is the characters and the bonds we see growing between them as the series progresses! the show has gone into much more engaging, interpersonal depth than i ever hoped for, and the bottom line is that love and compassion are the things that make life worth fighting for.

ive also talked before, i think rambling in the tags of a post lol, about how i love the fresh, fun, creative take on fantasy scifi that i have missed in recent media, and the optimism that runs as an undercurrent to it all. 

Any hopes and wishes for future episodes / seasons?

i obviously just want lances personal arc to come to a head already!! his character has been quietly and steadily growing in the background of all of this, and his growth is just so human and heartfelt in the midst of all of this intergalactic drama. he is just a boy from cuba who is so good and selfless that he has literally died defending the universe, and he deserves a real, genuine time to shine!

Do you think you’ll stick it out until the end of the show?

ABSOLUTELY, this show means so much to me and has ferried me thru a hard time in my life, on top of just being generally phenomenal and everything that i hope modern cartoons can become now that people are genuinely starting to realize that it is an art form!

am i the only one who lost complete faith in bellarke the shows been om air for 4 years and the one final opportunity they had to kiss shouldve been right b4 they separated for 6 years they both were walking into their potential deaths and it just makes no sense how there wasnt at least a confession. then i remembered the writers are still pandering to antis who never shut up so it pretty much made me think that legit every small moment that has been given to us is bait for us to stay watching

Hello nonny! Not worry I am here to restore your faith in all things canon blarke and s5 is our time! I totally feel your pain, sometimes even I get in those ‘blarke is never gonna fuck what’s even the point’ moods, but i have some long ranting posts ill shoot your way so you have some things to think about and hopefully it'll raise your spirits! (also you saying I'm a voice of reason made me laugh because in all honesty I'm a huge emo mess )

About the kiss being in the s4 finale. at first I really thought it would happen too, since if they think they're gonna die they should confess and make out, except, they didn't think that, at least Bellamy didn't. He thought they were gonna have 5 years of the 2 of them stuck in space to figure it out and be together so he didn't feel the pressure to have to confess before they went up. Clarke probably didn't do anything because she was almost certain she was going to die and she probably didn't want to put all that on Bellamy if he was just going to lose her anyway. Thats especially easy to notice if you pay attention to the face caress scene where she seems light hearted and happy looking at him and then she remembers her mom’s vision. And if you recall there were two separate instances where one of them tried to either confess or say goodbye and the other wouldn't let them (Bellamy before clarke went to the island and Clarke before the head and heart convo). ALSO leaving the confession up in the air gives the opportunity for them to add a lot of conflict with bellamy not getting to tell her going into next season. So when you think about that, it makes a lot of sense for them not to have kissed in the finale.

About the writers pandering to a certain audience, I agree. they name dropped L at unnecessary and excessive points last season to pacify the antis as best as they could. I get it, I hated it, it hurt Clarke’s character, and it wasn’t needed, but like i get what they were trying to do, unsuccessfully. HOWEVER I don't think that'll be a problem going forward. The time jump allows time for Clarke to have grieved and moved on in the last 6 years. She’s not fresh off the loss of a loved one and she’s been able to come into herself and move on essentially. AND the writers have been active on Twitter, and talking about Bellarke for the first time since S2 which is a big deal. They’re out of their Post-L Hibernation and they feel safe, well at least safer, talking about Bellarke on social media, meaning they’ve moved on from trying to pacify the antis in that regard. I think we’re pretty much over seeing them directly pandering to the CL’s at this point. 

Running off of that there’s also the scripts that the writers release, which have so far been pretty Bellarke heavy with the “another piece of her soul on the line”, “kill another person who she loves”, every part of the finale scripts and Bellamy’s “heart screaming”. Like... they released a script canonically saying Clarke loves Bellamy (and in a romantic way since the only other person she loved that she killed in canon was Finn). They’re putting it out there.

There’s no way they’re going to bring L back. Jason said she’s dead and not coming back. ABC has said it. And she’s trying to stay as far away from this show and that character as possible right now, she’s moved on she’s not going to come back. 

As for baiting, yeah they stretch it out and a lot of people think 4 season is unrealistic, but I say time and time again, when you look at canon slow burns and how long they take, 4 seasons, not even full seasons let me remind you, is child’s play. Mulder and Scully took 7 seasons to kiss and almost the whole 9 seasons to be fully canon on the show. Stiles and Lydia took 6 seasons to be canon, Rick and Michonne took 4ish seasons to go canon (still more episodes than The 100′s current 58). Booth and Brennan, Fitz and Simmons, Harvey and Donna (I see you Ana), Ron and Hermione, they all took years and almost twice as long as Bellarke have. It’s how television works. It’s annoying and it’s unrealistic a lot of the times, but its a trope, it follows a pattern, it’s how television shows grab a certain type of viewers and and ensure that they can keep them for the run of the show. Because it’s widely believed by the tv industry that once the ‘will they won't they’ aspect is gone, viewers lose interest so they string it out as long as they think they can. Whether its true or not thats how it works. 

There are also two more major reasons I think, or rather I know, Bellarke are endgame. The 6 Year Separation, and the fact that That’s The Story Jason Is Writing. 

I have separate long posts for these on my blog so I’ll be brief and link those for further reading, but to start off, extended separations are romantic tropes. Being separated for years and thinking the other person is or could be dead is a tried and true romantic Hollywood trope. Almost every example of this in entertainment, be it tv, books, or film, has romantic connotations surrounding it. The entire post about it can be found right here, if you want the low down, which I suggest. I list off other examples and proof in it. 

Moving towards Jason writing romantic Bellarke, it’s what he’s doing. If you look back at all the pivotal ‘Bellarke’ scenes in the past, Jason or Aaron have written a good portion of those episodes. Jason, the show runner, and Aaron, the guy he was ready to have take over if his other show got picked up. That combined with how many times he’s said that this is ‘Clarke and Bellamy’s story’ and in the past (S1-2) how free he was when speaking about Bellarke on social media. It’s always been the plan. He just likes to pull a Chris Carter (show runner of The X-Files, and the OG JRoth) and try to drag it out and deny it as much as possible. Seriously look up some of the stuff CC has said about Mulder and Scully in the past and it fits the same pattern. You can find the full post right here, where I give quotes and explain everything further. 

Taking a turn for a second, you can also think about the fact that tv shows almost NEVER put their big endgame together until the end of the show is approaching, especially if it’s between the two series mains. They don’t give that to you early on, that’s why most bigger ships in tv are at least partially slow burn, they don’t put the big couples together in the first season or two.

And I guess to close out, you can think about the fact that S1 Bellamy is set up as a romantic interest for Clarke from the beginning. His character and their relationship follow the ‘enemy/bad boy isn't actually that bad and actually has a heart and realizes that when he meets the good girl that challenges him’ like come on my guys... they’re set up as a trope from episode 2 when he saves her, and then episode 3 when he stares at her killing Atom and he gets all soft and realizes she’s not who he thought she was. It even comes complete with the jealous canon love interest and the ‘we’ve been through a lot together”

Never mind, I have one more point. Look at the sizzle reel for next season. It’s set up to make Bellarke look romantic or at least intimately connected. I have another long post for that one right here. 

I hope that did the trick for reassuring you at least partially and now we can all stew in this hellatus for a few more months before this hell shit returns to us!

2 meta combo: Bellamy/baton + leadership themes after s4

I. Some disorganized thoughts on Bellamy and the hollow baton…

So I had a particular reading of the presence of the bottle prop in the end scene of 413 and didn’t think about it again afterwards, but this week I’ve read a lot of talk about what it means. So I decided to spill my reaction into one giant post. This is my general contribution to the broad discussion of the Baton as (one of several) symbolic prop for Bellamy’s character state. FYI it should go without saying that anything I write is in the context of being my opinion, but also I speak in declarative sentences a lot because I tend to believe my opinions pretty confidently.  To the point:  I don’t think the bottle is empty bc Bellamy is getting a fresh start.* The straightforward meaning is this: the bottle of liquor is drained when Bellamy gets to it because, as a symbol of power, it’s literally and metaphorically empty. Circumstances have rendered it sad and meaningless. A hollow consolation. It’s like… a really explicit piece of visual irony.

((* fyi, the positive hopeful element in that scene is not the bottle, it’s Raven’s steadfastness + Bellamy honoring Clarke’s memory through survival.))

Just going off of a lot of initial fandom reactions I’ve read on tumblr, some fans were so excited about him getting this baton at the finale that they missed that it was empty. And now that folks are discussing it being empty, there’s like this desire to see it still as a wholly good thing. To hold onto that excitement. Which I totally understand, because it seems like such a romantic idea. That he could inherit the thing that Jaha and all the Chancellors in history had. There’s appeal in that. But… he didn’t, and it’s not–emptiness is not a positive symbol in western media, guys. The bottle is empty because the Baton is a hollow dead object now. No more chancellors, no more Jaha, no more Ark ambitions of old. It represents a past dream that is out of sight of the current characters. He gets to a place where this potential symbol of leadership is in reach, and what’s it to him? This symbol that meant so much to Jaha has been reduced to a passing curiosity by a window. It’s not part of his future. Bellamy can’t preserve it and he can’t even drink it, just like he can’t act on the future of the rest of his people when he’s stuck up in space. His family is out of reach and the girl he loved is gone and the promise of a fresh start on Earth (written! right there on the bottle!) turned out to be an empty promise. They never had a chance… the world was gonna end in 8 months regardless of his and Clarke’s choices. This show is so fucking sad you guys. This is why I made myself cry writing about Bellamy in the Ark after I watched the finale.

The Baton is a piece of visual irony because the bottle now represents the hollowness (the ending) of the thing it used to represent in s1. They could have had Bellamy pick up any prop that had a positive and hopeful indication of his role, but they chose to give him the saddest and darkest prop they could. It’s marginally less depressing than a handgun or a photo. He picks it up but because it’s empty for him. (unlike the friend/family standing beside him, who together represent the true hope and the final image of the delinquents’ fortitude.)   That empty hollow bottle is the fragility of life and the tenuousness of survival in the face of a burning fireball of nature fucking you over (note: also a big whopping symbol visible in the same shot.) It’s the UNFAIRNESS of everything that has happened to these kids since the show started–they tried so hard and got this far and the bottle (the dream of Earth)–is *fucking empty*. They never had a chance on that world. It was always going to end.

In terms of leadership this is the irony of the hollow Baton: Bellamy, who tried so hard to be a leader who was good and strong, and struggled to find his way, has finally has grown into a person who has a more balanced leadership style. This was foreshadowed in him letting go of Octavia and thematically cemented by him letting Clarke go in 413. Thus meaning he is finally “ready” by The 100’s morbid storytelling standards, finally balanced. Except now he’s faced with a situation where the ONLY thing he actually is in charge of is 6 people in a ghost-filled space bucket. Ding ding ding, it’s irony time! Whoo. XD …Meanwhile the world burns below and his love sacrificed herself…brings us to the other half of the irony, where i agree with pretty much the whole shipdom: they never got to have that drink. Because he didn’t carpe diem, didn’t open himself to the person he loves (thanks @velvet-tread). The universe is having one sick laugh at Bellamy Blake in 413, visually epitomized in that bottle.

I know my dramatic self has repeated this several times, but for real now ok— the Baton is literally empty bc it’s metaphorically empty. Drained of purpose. The old ways are no good, they’re surviving on their own, together. New generation. What matters here and now is that Bellamy and his friends will fight to stay alive as long as they can, even as hope burns away. They have each other and they have time so they’re going to stick together and try to survive. But what does the symbol of the Baton mean to that equation? To their future? Nothing–it’s empty. He’s holding it, accepting leadership, even as it’s a working like a visual pun.

ALL THAT BEING SAID---I do think it's fair to say that it being empty has little to no meaning aside from the fact that it was already drunk in an earlier episode and they needed to keep continuity. In that case, the only symbol that matters is the fact that it says "BATON" on it. Which is legit. BUT if we're going to speculate that its emptiness has meaning, then I'm going to say it definitely has a tragic and ironic meaning.

II. That age old leadership contest this fandom is obsessed with? After 4 seasons I think the point of The 100 is that it’s futile and nobody ‘wins’ bc it’s actually an endless struggle of self that C,B,K,A and J all wrestle with, where the “person” they’re competing with is their own failures until they individually learn to be wiser. That’s why the person who ended up in charge was the young interloper who wasn’t even a player til now….bc our main politically-driven characters aren’t in the story to win the leadership prize in the eyes of fandom, they’re in the story to grow.

I’m gonna go right to the explicit symbols of leadership in 413 and point out this: as of 413’s ending, Clarke’s *not* in charge of the future of their people and Bellamy is *not* in charge of the future of their people–Octavia is. While the show gave Clarke a heroic “death” and gave Bellamy friendship + an empty liquor bottle of used up dreams, Octavia was given the clothes / headpiece of the commander and stepped out to make a speech in front of the last of humanity. She has the support of the former leaders and the faith of the remaining majority. ((Whether you like Octavia as commander or not, that is what’s happening on the show right now. FWIW, I was hoping all season that it’d end with Indra.)) While Octavia is probably gonna be spending 6 years off screen going through what Clarke and Bellamy have gone through the last 4 seasons (i.e. emotional tests of being in power), Bellamy and Clarke both have a *reprieve* of leadership. AND ISN’T THAT KIND OF AMAZING? Bellamy only has to be strong and protective for six of his friends–that small team stuff is right up his wheelhouse. He doesn’t have to make decisions of mass death that cause him a season and a half of self-recrimination and doubt. Likewise, Clarke only has to be strong and protective for one person–she doesn’t have to make those mass death choices that cause her to break down crying or have horrific nightmares. She can love one person, unreservedly, without being torn apart by disparate loyalties.

One of the major themes for all the main characters on this show (except Octavia, who is on a different track) has been “How do I learn be a good leader?“ Well, I think 413 wrapped that up with a pretty bow–if the “bow” is the head/heart convo, Clarke’s choice to sacrifice herself, the Baton, and Octavia’s commander wardrobe. Honestly I could make a whole separate and much longer post about leadership as a journey for Clarke, Bellamy, Abby, Kane, and Jaha (guest starring Lexa and Roan as static roadmarks), but not today. I’ll just summarize and say that I think the last 4 seasons have been about the maturation process of Clarke and Bellamy’s leadership skills, starting as people who have the traits but not the wisdom/practice. Then pile on 4 seasons of triumphs and mistakes. By 413, Bellamy’s maturation process ends in letting go of attachment and Clarke’s maturation process ends in self sacrifice (foreshadowed by her taking the nightblood in 408).

I really really hope that the show uses the timeline to age up the characters in a way that the writers move on from this leadership question. That journey is done–Clarke, Bellamy, Kane, and Abby have all gone through a lot. When we meet them again, I don’t want to see them question their decisions every episode. Let them own their choices and move forward!! They’re grown-ups now omg. Give them all new dilemmas please.

If this is really a reboot for the show and for the characters then let’s tell a new story. “What will we do to survive?” is always gonna be the center of the series but I hope the writers approach it in a new way, that it’s not about the toll of constantly escalating power. That journey is done.  It’s been told, and by the end of s4 our favorites have all grown and changed as a result of it. When the survivors emerge from the bunker neither Clarke nor Bellamy will be in charge–so I hope the show takes this opportunity to try new things for their characters. For example, explore the drama of small group politics. Explore family in a way that isn’t just about conflict. Explore discovering love again when everything you used to understand about your loved one has changed. Explore new people and new alliances and new tests. Let’s see ADVENTURE again.

By s5, Clarke and Bellamy are free of the agonies of traditional leadership, now responsible only to their small family clusters. We’ve never seen them this separate from group obligation. I want to see what kind of people that reprieve has made them. Please @the100writers, show us the characters growing new directions.
