Have there been any endings to shows or movie series that you thought were perfect or at least truly satisfying endings?

Money Flower, Her Private Life, Tell Me What You Saw (the plot gets extremely messy in the back half but the actual ending itself is A+++ thematically and I was very pleasantly surprised), Star Trek: TNG... and, tragically, that’s kind of it unless I start adding caveats like ‘if you pretend it ended here’ or get into sitcoms and miniseries and things like that.

Oh, you know what, I got one. The Back to the Future movies have a great ending. The trilogy has a way better conclusion than the original film. So that’s one.

#I hadn't thought about this but yeah GENUINELY there are almost none?? #the OT and BttF are the only big franchises where the sequels were as good or better that I can think of #Indiana Jones would have been here if they hadn't made the fourth one (Last Crusade is the best Indiana Jones movie fight me) #Bill and Ted would have been here without the third one (which wasn't bad it's just... not what I want and no candle to Bogus Journey) #I'm honestly sitting here thinking and I can't think of single US-style long running show with a great ending #besides TNG #maybe MASH?? I haven't watched it all myself but it's famously considered a good ending #(and MASH is a sitcom but it has enough pathos and narrative throughline I would count it) #(I wouldn't count Seinfeld or anything that episodic- though I like the Seinfeld finale personally) #even The Thick of It which is absolutely brilliant does not get points bc the last series is a relative misstep imo #it's still good but I wouldn't hold it up as a great ending at all #I'm tempted to put Blackadder but that's totally outside the spirit of the question lmao #almost everything I watched as a kid was an ancient rerun unless it was local (and no one on here will have heard of those) #a lot of long running shows I'm vaguely familiar with I've never seen the endings for so there might be more there #at least of the ones which knew they were ending instead of just being cancelled
