All I Want, Remus Lupin Fanfiction
Chapter One
Warnings: eventual smut, death, violence, swearing, age gap, slight angst, major spoilers for Deathly Hallows
It was a week before Bill and Fleur's wedding.
You, Ginny, and Hermione were helping Mrs. Weasley in any way you could. With the wedding fast approaching, her nerves had gotten severely worse. You knew that her knowledge that Ron, Harry, and Hermione would be leaving after the wedding wasn't helping.
Harry had been advised by Dumbledore to tell you their plans as well just in case. If something went wrong or one of them got hurt you would take their place in the mission. If all went according to plan, they would be safe and you wouldn't have to join in. You were completely willing to join them, you wanted to help bring down Voldemort in any way you could.
You had been friend's with the Golden Trio since their first year. You were two years older than them but didn't exactly fit in with your fellow Slytherins even though you were a pureblood. You and your parents were blood traitors. You believed there was no reason to treat Muggle born witches and wizards any differently than half bloods and purebloods. Your parents were not afraid to make their opinions public if it meant helping more people speak out and come together.
You, Ginny, and Hermione were talking on the eve of the wedding when Hermione said, "We're leaving after the wedding." She had started to cry a little, she was having doubts about the success of their plans. Ginny got up and hugged Hermione, "It'll be okay. You guys will come back." You looked over and spoke too, "Hermione, you are bloody brilliant. You are one of the smartest people I know. If anyone could do this it's you three. Hey, maybe while you're gone you can tell Ron how you feel." You giggled, knowing Hermione had been crushing on Ron for a long time. "Oh please. We all know that won't happen," Hermione laughed, "but maybe Harry will finally come to his senses and ask you out again when this is over Ginny." You joined in with Hermione's laughing while Ginny rolled her eyes, "Maybe. What about you, Y/N? All these years and you've never fancied anyone! Unless there's something you're not telling us." You shook your head, "I have nothing to hide. It's simple. No one has caught my interest." Ginny smirked and nodded along like she believed you, "Whatever you say." After some more giggling you all went to sleep.
The next morning you got ready with the girls and headed outside to greet the guests. Among the people that arrived was Remus Lupin. He was your favorite DADA teacher throughout the years. You had always been the closest with him out of all your professors.
He approached you and smiled, "Well hello Y/N, you look lovely."
"As do you! May I take you to your seat?" you grinned back. He held out his arm and you took it, guiding him to his seat, which was near yours. "I suppose you must attend to the other guests but do come find me for a chat later," he said as he sat down.
"Of course. I'll see you then." You went back to the gate ushering in more people with Harry, who had been disguised as one of Ron's cousins. After everyone arrived you took your seats and waited. A moment later, music started playing and all heads turned toward the back. Fleur looked absolutely mesmerizing.
Around an hour later the ceremony had finished and the seats moved to tables, making an opening in the middle for a dance floor. You went across the tent to sit down at a table which occupied Harry, Hermione, Ron and Luna. You chatted with them for a while before finding a waiter and grabbing yourself a butterbeer.
A few tables away you saw Lupin talking with Mr. Weasley and decided to go talk to them. When you nearly reached them everyone's heads had turned at a silvery lynx jumping into the middle of the dance floor. It spoke with the voice of Kingsley, "The Ministry has fallen. Scrimgeour is dead. They are coming."
The tent erupted in chaos. Popping and cracking noises began to sound everywhere from people Disaperating. You saw Harry, Hermione, and Ron had Disaperated as well. Not a minute later Death Eaters and Ministry workers began spilling in and grabbing anyone they could get their hands on. Mr. Weasley and Lupin saw you and motioned for you to come to them. "Stay with us Y/N, we will get this sorted out," Mr. Weasley said with a scowl on his face.
After hours of interrogation about information on Harry, the Death Eaters left. You had managed not to tell them anything or give them any bit of detail. Bill and Fleur had left after they were questioned and went to their cottage. Fleur's parents left and the only people still there were you, Lupin, Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, Fred, George, and Ginny. Mr. Weasley came in from outside, "They are searching all the families connected to Harry, but from what I hear everyone is okay."
"Well why do they suddenly want Harry, what gives them the authority to interrogate these people?" you ask. Mr. Weasley sighed handing over the Daily Prophet. In bold letters was written, "HARRY POTTER WANTED FOR QUESTIONING ON THE DEATH OF ALBUS DUMBLEDORE" You put the paper back down shaking your head, "They must be trying to pin his death on Harry. Obviously they want a reason to take him so You-Know-Who can have him."
Lupin nodded his head in agreement, "I believe so. The Ministry is under his control right now, not directly but he is definitely pulling the strings." You flipped over the Prophet seeing another headline, "MUGGLE-BORNS WANTED FOR QUESTIONING ON FURTHER KNOWLEDGE OF THE SOURCE OF THEIR MAGIC."
"Look at this! They're trying to take in Muggle-borns as well. That means they'll be on the lookout for Hermione too," you sighed leaning your head back. This was not good at all. Although the Death Eaters believed that the goblin upstairs was Ron they would still be on the lookout for Harry and Hermione.
"What are we going to do?" Ginny asked.
Mrs. Weasley stood up, "We will stay safe and protect each other. Right now we are going to be the biggest target for getting information." Her face was stern and serious and everyone knew she meant business.
It had been a few days since the wedding and you had not heard from your parents. You were expecting a letter from them to check up on you but nothing came. George and Fred had gone back to their homes. Lupin said he would stay at the Burrow for the time being. Not only was the Ministry trying to track Muggle-borns but they were trying to track werewolves with magic as well. Ginny had started packing for Hogwarts. You two would talk late into the night about what she would do when she was there. With Dumbledore dead you both assumed that Voldemort's people would take over the school.
Over a week after the wedding, you were eating breakfast at the table when Mr. Weasley ran in, his face filled with sorrow, "Y/N I'm so sorry. Your parents have been killed. They spoke against You-Know-Who in the Quibbler and Greyback was sent to warn them against doing it again. The ministry is saying your parents didn't take it well and attacked him so he was forced to kill them in self defense." Your heart broke at what you had just heard. Your only family had been killed. You couldn't believe it. You knew your parents were proud and wanted to rise against Voldemort but you knew they wouldn't attack anyone they didn't have to. You started sobbing. Lupin had come down the stairs and heard what Arthur told you. He too knew what it was like to have Greyback take something away from you.

As the winter holidays arrived, the castle found itself empty. Students departed to be with family, leaving only a handful behind with the teachers. Snow covered the castle and it's grounds, creating a winter wonderland for those that remained. The weather was extremely cold, although beautiful at the same time. Most stayed inside though, relaxing near a fire while drinking from hot mugs.
Students and teachers alike switched to casual attire for the holidays. Everyone in the castle was wrapped up in thick sweaters, trying to keep cozy. On Christmas night the Great Hall was lit with hundreds of candles, illuminating the room with a warm glow. Christmas trees, decorated with ornaments and garlands, lined the walls. For the few people that remained, a feast of turkey, potatoes, cranberry sauce, and other enticing items appeared on the tables.
Teachers ditched formalities and moved to sit with the students, who had all joined at the Gryffindor table. Since Voldemort's death, dislike and prejudice between houses had dwindled. Many of the former Death Eaters' children didn't return to school so most Slytherins were innocent students that just happened to be placed there. You, Remus, and Minerva chatted with Luna, who was going on about the new things her father had planned for the Quibbler.
Hermione and Ginny both decided to go to the Burrow to celebrate the holidays. Like you, they were both in new relationships. Just as you predicted, Harry and Ginny got back together, and Hermione and Ron finally confessed their feelings for one another. A while after the battle Hermione informed you of the impromptu kiss between her and Ron which caused them to realize their mutual feelings.
Harry and Ron were both starting their training to become Aurors, which made Hermione feel better that they weren't attending school. Things were moving forward in the blink of an eye. The battle felt like it was just yesterday, yet it had been more than half a year. It was nearly foreign to you that things could be calm for this long, but this was the new normal.
Remus squeezed your hand under the table. You smiled fondly at him as he began to stroke the back of your hand with his thumb. The sensation made your whole body go fuzzy, that was the effect Remus had on you, even now. Over a year ago you both departed from the Burrow to be safe. Who would have known things would end up like this?
Even with the small crowd, dinner lasted longer than usual. Almost everyone was spending more time socializing than actually trying to eat. There was no need to be in a hurry, so you and your fellow teachers enjoyed the company of each other and the students.
Over an hour after the feast started, people began to leave the Great Hall and head to wherever they pleased. You and Remus were the last remaining in the Hall. You were about to leave as well when Remus stopped you, tugging on your hand to get your attention.
"Let's go on a walk."
It was lightly snowing outside and was getting dark, but the street lamps of Hogsmeade were wrapped in twinkling lights. The shops were open, allowing lone witches and wizards to stop by for something to drink and someone to talk to on Christmas. You had added gloves and a scarf to your already warm outfit and Remus had done the same. No matter how beautiful it was, you didn't want to catch a cold out there.
You and Remus strolled past the storefronts and stopped a little ways away from the end of the path. The light from the street lamps created a soft glow on Remus' face as he gazed at you. Your fingers of one of your hands were intertwined with Remus' and he brought that hand up to his lips and pressed a soft kiss against your gloved knuckles.
You couldn't help but notice how quiet he was being. He didn't speak too much normally but as you walked he didn't talk and he still wasn't.
"Remus are you alright?"
"Yes, I'm just thinking."
"About what?"
"I've been through a lot in my life yet, I would go through it all again if this were the outcome. Being with you... is all I could ever wish for. You are the light in my dark life. I have lost so much, so many people. Never again will I waste the time I have with the people I love. Y/N I know we haven't been together long, but you are everything to me. I would be a fool to not do this."
Remus stops talking and gets down on his knee. You're filled with emotions as you realize what's happening. He pulls a velvet box from his pocket and opens it in front of you. Inside lies the most beautiful ring you've ever seen.
"Y/N Y/L/N, I promise to always be by your side, no matter the circumstances. I want to be yours for the rest of time. I will cherish every moment spent with you as if it were my last. Will you marry me?"
You sink on your knees and wrap your arms around Remus. Tears stream from your eyes as he returns the embrace. "Of course I will."
He gives you a long kiss before taking your hand in his. He pulls the glove off your hand and slips the ring on your finger. Everything felt so perfect. Nothing could possibly make this moment more special. No words could describe the pure joy you felt.
......
The next few months leading up to your wedding was a whirlwind. You and Mrs. Weasley corresponded daily making arrangements leading up to the wedding in June. You and Remus agreed you wanted to get married as soon as possible.
You sat in your bedroom with Hermione and Ginny, your maids of honor. They were dressed in beautiful champagne colored dresses that you picked out together. Your stomach was doing flips inside of you. In just a few minutes you would walk down the aisle, Remus at the end of it. The thought made your heart flutter.
There was a light knock on the door. Mr. Weasley poked his head in, "The music is starting girls. Harry and Ron are waiting at the door for you two."
Harry was Remus' best man and Ron was his groomsman. You walked down the hall and to the double doors that led to your backyard. In front of you Harry and Ginny linked arms and began to walk out. Trailing after them was Hermione and Ron. Mr. Weasley held his arm out for you to take and looked over at you.
"You've grown so much. Your parents would be proud."
You replied with a warm smile. Mr. and Mrs. Weasley were like your second parents. Being close to their kids caused it. During the holidays you and your parents would go to the Burrow to celebrate with the Weasleys. It felt like ages since the last time you spent Christmas all together. You were all very close, so it felt right to have Mr. Weasley walk you down the aisle. He was glad to do it too.
You and Arthur walked out of the doorway together and began to walk. A few yards away was Remus, tears glistening in his eyes. He looked magnificent in his suit and tie. As the distance between you was closed, your eyes never left Remus'. You couldn't stop yourself from smiling. The nerves you felt before dissipated. As you got to the end of the path, Remus took your hands in his.
You both listened and got through vows and the wedding ring exchange as rehearsed.
"I now pronounce you Mr. and Mrs. Remus and Y/N Lupin. May now kiss the bride." The officiator steps out of the way and a camera flashes as you kiss. The small crowd of yours and Remus' friends cheered and stood as you both walked back down the rose petal covered path to the house. Looking around you saw Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, George, Bill, Fleur, and Victoire in the second row. Mrs. Weasley had tears in her eyes as she clapped. George gave you a thumbs up, which made you laugh.
You made it through the double doors and back into the house. You cupped Remus' cheek as you kissed him again, more passionately this time. His forehead rested against yours as he whispered, "Mrs. Lupin.?"
"Mr. Lupin?"
"I love you."
"I love you too." You kissed Lupin on the cheek and then went back outside to find that your backyard had been transformed. In the center was a dance floor and off to the sides were tables so everyone could eat. Beige drapes hung on posts over the dance floor. Twinkling lights were wrapped around the trees and hung from their branches. Garlands were placed in the center of the tables along with white roses in vases.
All the Weasleys, Luna and her father, Harry, Hermione, Minerva, Hagrid, Kingsley, and Tonks were seated, awaiting you both to return.
The music started again and Remus pulled you onto the dance floor for your first dance. He pulled you into him and wrapped his arms around your waist. You pressed your cheek to his chest as your arms went around his neck.
You sighed, thinking about everything you went through to get to this point. Remus sensed your unease.
"What's wrong dear?"
"It's just... we've been through so much. We've lost so many people along the way."
"I know darling. There's nothing that can bring them back, but gaining you is a blessing I won't take for granted."
It was true. They had faced enough pain and loss to last lifetimes. In the past two decades Remus had lost his best friends. In the past two years Y/N lost her parents and one of her best friends. Nothing could bring them back but being together would heal so many other wounds. Together, you could mend the holes that had been left behind.
As you two swayed in time with the music and gazed into each others' eyes, anyone could see that you were looking at your universes. Because no matter what, nothing could break the bond that had flourished between you.
......
Nine months later you would welcome a new life into the world, your son, Farris Lupin, who was named after your father. You and Remus were both granted leave from teaching until the new school semester so you had plenty of uninterrupted time to spend with Farris.
One night, a few months after he was born, you went into Farris' bedroom. Sitting in a large leather chair was Remus and Farris. Farris was laying on Remus' chest, sleeping soundlessly. Remus too was asleep, the book he was reading to him lying in his lap.
Extra: (this happened at your wedding)
As the night began to wind down, you were sitting with George at a table. You both sipped out of your glasses, reminiscing on your adventures at Hogwarts.
"Hey Y/N?"
"Yeah Georgie?"
"Me and Fred had a bet."
"Oh really?" You were surprised George was freely talking about Fred. After his death, George broke down for weeks. Anything related to Fred was a sore topic for you both. You three were best friends all through school, and even past it. So close in fact, that Mrs. Weasley secretly thought you would marry one of them.
"Yeah. I just won it today." George looked down at his fire whiskey and tossed it back, downing it in one gulp.
"What... What was it about?"
"I promised Fred I wouldn't tell you." George would never break that promise, and it was possibly for the better. The bet was made in their fourth year, and would stay a secret for the rest of time.

The door was open. You were sure that Remus locked it before you Disapperated. He had let the protections down but he was sure no one would come.
"Stay here and let me look inside," Remus said as he began to walk forward.
"I'm coming too. I'm not letting you get hurt." You followed behind him and were soon at the door. You both peered in. Everything seemed to be in the same state you left it. Suddenly you heard voices in the bedroom, "It's empty but someone's been 'ere."
"We'll come back later. Might find us a muggle-born or one of Potter's friends."
"Oh that'll be it. Get us in good with the Dark Lord."
Remus ushered you out of the doorway to the house and pulled you off to the side of the cottage. "Death Eaters and Ministry goons I assume," he whispered. You nodded, trying to stay as quiet as possible. After a few moments of silence you heard the same voices outside, "Let's go." There were two sharp CRACKs.
You looked around the corner and saw that the coast was clear. "They're gone now," you sent back at Remus. Deciding that it was safe, he came around the corner as well, visibly distressed. "We'll have to leave. I'll send word to Arthur and find somewhere for us to go."
"Okay, I'll gather my things."
After going inside and collecting your belongings into your suitcase you went to the living room. Remus looked up when you entered, "I've just sent word to the Burrow. I think we will have to do some camping for a while. I brought a tent and some other supplies just for this situation. I must warn you, it is even smaller than this cottage." He chuckled and shrugged as if saying, "It's the best we have."
"I'm completely okay with that. I've never been camping actually."
"We'll be doing quite a lot of it. You might get sick of it," Lupin laughed.
"Well at least I'll be in good company."
"I am flattered."
You smiled and twiddled with the handle on your trunk while Remus put the last of the food in his suitcase. He went outside and you followed behind. Once again he held out his hand for you both to Disapparate.
You had Apparated to a forest. You could faintly hear the sound of running water, so that wouldn't be a problem. You and Lupin both worked quickly to put up some protective charms and began to set up the tent. Just like the one you stayed in at the Quidditch World Cup, this tent was bigger on the inside than it appeared on the outside. But as Lupin said, it was smaller. It was one central room and then a bathroom off of it. There was a bed, a table, a few chairs, and a tiny kitchen.
You both unpacked, which didn't take long. Night had fallen quickly and it was now time to negotiate the sleeping situation. Lupin had one sleeping bag and there was one bed. He insisted you take the bed again but you disagreed. You had the bed at the cottage so he should take it here. After realizing you wouldn't change your mind, Lupin agreed, giving you the sleeping bag and laying in the bed.
Strangely enough, you felt very at ease in the tent. It was possibly because Lupin laid asleep just a few feet from you.
Waking up the next morning, you could smell frying eggs. You couldn't help but think of how nice Remus was. He let you come with him, he kept you safe, he comforted you, and cooked all the time. He doesn't have to do any of that but he does. You wanted to help him and repay the kindness he's shown you.
You got up and went to the opposite side of the room which was the kitchen. "Can I help?" He turned towards you. "You don't have to. But if you really would like to then you could get two plates from that cabinet," he said, pointing towards the one on his left. You grabbed the plates and sat then next to the stove, which Remus was occupying. You leaned against the counter and watched him. He must have noticed you watching because a small smile formed at the corner of his mouth.
After breakfast you went outside to check out where the water was. To your amazement there was a waterfall going into a lake less than a mile away from the tent. It was breathtaking, moss covered the ground and the water nearly sparkled. You reached down to feel the water and noticed it felt quite nice. It was cool but not cold. You sat on the edge of a rock and took off your shoes. Placing your feet in the water and swishing them around, you watched a few fish swim past.
An hour had passed before you decided to go back to the tent. When you entered you weren't surprised to see Remus sitting in a chair, reading. "There's a waterfall a little bit away from here. It's beautiful. It runs right into a lake and the water feels nice," you recalled as you sat in the chair opposite Lupin's. "I imagine it would. I'll have to take a look later."
You had brought a few books from your house and decided to read those. Both lost in books, you and Remus sat there for quite some time before you decided to make lunch. You told Remus that you were going to make lunch for a change.
Later that night you were startled by a Patronus showing up in the middle of the tent. It was Mr. Weasley's Patronus, a weasel. It said that the reason Death Eaters were searching houses was because Harry, Hermione, and Ron were at the Ministry but had escaped. Death Eaters were crawling all over Grimmauld Place, which was where they had Apparated during their escape. You and Remus both felt troubled over this news. Would they be on the run just as you two were?
While you were both getting ready to sleep Remus peered over his bed, "Do you know about their plans Y/N?" This question caught you by surprise. No one was actually supposed to know that you knew of their plans. You were backup and if someone found out they might do something. You trusted Remus so you were honest and told him that Harry told you what he needed to do.
"But why did he tell you? If someone were to find out..."
"I'm going to replace one of them if they cannot carry on with the mission actually."
"What? But that's... That puts you in a tremendous amount of danger. You-Know-Who could find out and torture this information out of you. And if you go in for Harry, Hermione, or Ron you could die too," he rushed out.
"Remus. I knew what I was getting into. I wanted to help them and this is how Dumbledore thought I could. I didn't care that I was putting myself in harm's way and I especially don't mind it now. My parents believed that we could stop him and we have a chance. I will do anything to put an end to him. And if I did die at least it was a noble death. It's not like I have any family that will mourn me."
"Y/N, I respect and understand your ambition, but there are people that care about you and would be hurt if you died. I would be hurt if you died. You are very special to me."

You didn't know what to do. You always thought you would have your parents, that they would be there to see you get married and have kids. It felt like there was a hole in your heart. You loved your parents. You were closer to them than anyone else.
Lupin sat down next to you and rubbed your shoulder, "I'm so sorry Y/N." You tried to control your tears but they kept coming. Mr. Weasley spoke again, "I know your parents Y/N. They wouldn't lash out on someone like that. Even if it was Greyback. This is the Ministry's doing. They must be trying to make an example out of your parents, even if they are lying about the circumstances. The Ministry wants all witches and wizards of all blood statuses to know that they are not to be reckoned with." Mr. Weasley shook his head as if he couldn't believe it.
"That must be it," you said after you had stopped crying. You put away your breakfast and went to Ginny's room. You told her what happened and she comforted you in any way she could. Not only was Ginny sorry but she was mad. Mad at what the Ministry had become. "We cannot sit back and let this happen!" Ginny exclaimed. She stood up and started pacing the room, "There must be something we can do."
You sat up and looked at Ginny. You were mad too but you knew there was nothing that could be done. "All that we can do is wait and be safe. I would do anything to put an end to You-Know-Who," you said vehemently.
A while later you went downstairs to eat lunch. When you sat down you noticed everyone's faces looked downcast. Everyone ate quietly until Mrs. Weasley broke the silence, "I'm sorry about your parents dear. They were good people and they didn't deserve to die to the hands of Greyback." You thanked her and spoke to everyone, "Thank you all. This was completely unexpected but I'm glad I'm with you guys. This is a second home to me and I think of all of you as family." Mrs. Weasley smiled at you with tears in her eyes.
"What are you going to do now Y/N?" Ginny asked. Mr. Weasley answered before you could say anything, "I've been thinking about this too. Your home is no longer safe. Death Eaters could show up at any time."
"Well actually," Lupin started, "Y/N could come with me. It's about time I headed off. I don't think it would be wise for me to continue staying here. I'm going to head to a cottage I found and if you would like you can come with me." Lupin raised his eyebrows in question.
You thought for a moment, They're right, I'm a danger to the mission staying here. If I let slip Harry's plans they could get hurt... "Thank you Professor. I think that's a good idea. When are you leaving?"
You know that the time is ticking until Voldemort figures out that Harry is up to something. He could send Death Eaters to wheedle out more information from everyone associated with Harry. You would never purposefully give him up, but you can't protect your mind from Occlumency. Voldemort could easily find you and learn everything. Going with Lupin would make your location unknown and keep Hermione, Harry, and Ron safe.
"I thought I'd leave sometime tomorrow. It would probably be best to go early tomorrow morning." Professor Lupin told you. You would have to pack the few belongings you brought tonight and then tell everyone goodbye. There was no telling when you would see them again. It all depended on Harry, Ron, and Hermione's success. You started feeling emotional again, knowing it could be awhile before you would all be united. After everyone finished eating you went to see Mrs. Weasley.
"Y/N I'm going to miss you around here. I know you'll be secure with Remus. You're very clever so I don't doubt you two will be alright." Mrs. Weasley said before kissing your forehead. She patted your arm and smiled. You could tell it hurt her to have to separate from another one of you, even if you weren't her child. You noticed Ginny had gone outside so you went there next. She was messing around with her broom when you approached.
"Want to play?" she asked, holding out a spare broom to you. You took it and soared into the air. You were never on the Quidditch team at Hogwarts but you enjoyed playing when you got the chance. You guys went back and forth speeding by on your brooms trying to catch the most outlandish throws. You always had fun when you were with Ginny.
After a few hours she slowed to a stop on the ground next to you to get off her broom. "Be careful out there. And keep Lupin company, it'll be good for him." she laughed and pulled you into a hug. "I think we'll be fine," you both laughed. Ginny didn't know Harry's plans but you told her that you were backup. She understood the importance of you being hidden. "I know you're not leaving yet but still. It's going to be dull without you here." You scoffed, "Of course. I'm the life of the party." You weren't the most outgoing person but around the right people you flourished.
You both headed inside were Mrs. Weasley was putting dinner on the table. You noticed a bottle of firewhiskey on the table and you raised your eyebrows. "A little farewell to you and Remus," Molly grinned. Everyone sat down while Arthur poured everyone but Ginny a glass. "What about me?" she said, irritated. "You are too young," Arthur replied. You picked up your glass and sniffed it. It was emitting a strong odor. You took a swig and sputtered. Lupin chuckled across the table at you, "I suggest going slow at first." You all ate, reminiscing in old memories and basking in each other's company.
Lupin stood, "This was lovely Molly. I really do appreciate it." He looked at everyone and smiled, his eyes lingering on yours. You all dispersed to your rooms for the night. Ginny helped you pack until there was a knock on the door. "I hope I'm not interrupting," Mrs. Weasley said. She had a few containers in her arms and she laid them on your bed. "I wanted to give you a little something sweet to eat while you're gone." You opened the nearest container and saw homemade chocolate bars.
"Thank you Mrs. Weasley, you're the best," you said, reaching to embrace her. "I know how much you and Remus both like your chocolate. Just a little something to remind you of home." You thanked her once more and she left.
"She thinks of you as her second daughter ya know?" Ginny said. "I think of her as a second mother. You are all so caring. It must run in your family," you sighed. You were going to miss this.
After you finished packing you went to the room Lupin was staying in, which was Fred and George's. "Professor Lupin can I come in?" you said, standing outside the door. "Of course," he said, opening it. He smiled and ushered you in. "You can call me Remus if you'd like Y/N."
"Okay then Remus," you laughed. He smiled and sat down on the nearest bed. You sat down on a chair next to the bed, your body facing Lupins. "Mrs. Weasley gave me some chocolate for us to eat at the cottage," you said. He nodded, a slight smile on his face. "Oh, that's delightful. I do love chocolate."
You sat in comfortable silence for a moment, looking at each other. "Are you done packing?" you asked. "Ah, yes. I had been planning to leave since this morning. I know it was short notice for you but I think you will be better suited in an unknown location. The cottage isn't much so I hope you don't mind. What it lacks in space it makes up for in coziness," he said optimistically. "I'm sure it will be adequate," you smirked.
"I do believe we should both be getting to sleep about now. I'll see you in the morning, Y/N," Lupin said. You were sure you heard his voice change when he said your name but you shrugged it off and told him goodnight. You went back to Ginny's bedroom and drifted to sleep.

You wake up from your nap feeling refreshed, for the first time in a few days you didn't have nightmares. You get up and look out the window, it's still bright out. Walking through the bedroom door, you notice that Remus isn't in the living room. There's nowhere else in the house he could be without you knowing. The cover you gave Remus is folded neatly on the couch.
Suddenly the front door opens and you instinctively draw your wand from your pocket. Standing in the door is Lupin, staring at you with wide eyes. "Y/N! I'm sorry I went to get some things from the market. I didn't want to wake you." You sigh and put your wand up. Of course that's where he was. He wouldn't abandon you.
Lupin sets several things down on the counter and begins to put them away in their designated spots. You stand in the same spot you had before, twiddling your thumbs. You couldn't help but feel awkward not knowing having anything to do. Not being in constant motion made you feel a little out of place. There weren't many calm moments at the Burrow or at Hogwarts. Being here was definitely a change of pace that you were going to have to adjust to.
"Did you sleep well?" Remus asked, turning around and putting his hands in his pockets.
"Yes I did. For the first time in a while actually. I haven't exactly gotten used to being able to sit back and worry about myself for a while," you replied.
"I know the feeling. Although it is not only me I worry about but you as well. I know you're completely capable of doing things on your own but you've just had a part of your life taken away so I want to be here for you in any way you need," Remus said, looking you straight in the eye.
Something inside you hoped that being there for you meant forever, and not just while you're coping with your parents' deaths. Ignoring that thought, you smiled at him, "You don't know how much that means to me, really."
Letting the corners of his mouth come up, Lupin walked past you and sat on the couch. Turning on the spot you watched him as he crossed one leg over the other and picked up a book. You honestly didn't know what to do. Your mind made you want to be busy, made you feel like you had to be. Keeping busy was the only thing that controlled your mind from wandering onto your parents and the hole that was trying to heal itself inside you.
At this point Remus had put his book down and was looking at you with concern, "Are you alright Y/N?" Noticing that you had been standing planted on the spot, you moved to the couch to sit on the opposite side of Lupin, "Yes. I'm fine. I'm just feeling a bit restless is all. I feel like I should be doing something right now."
"You're doing the right thing. I promise. Not only are you keeping yourself safe, you're keeping me company," Remus said with a slight smirk. Feeling the blood rush to your face, you turn away from him so he can't see the effect he has on you. Suddenly you feel a hand on your shoulder. You turn, although you know it can only be Remus's hand. He had inched closer while you were turned away and he looked at you with earnest.
"There is no other place you should be right now other than hear. You are safe and I am here to protect you. I don't think I would be able to sleep at night knowing you could be in danger. Besides, I'm sure Molly would have a meltdown if you were to run off as well. We all know how much it has taken a toll on her to not know the whereabouts of Ron, Harry, and Hermione," Lupin concluded.
You knew he was right. This is where you needed to be. You had to be safe for Harry, Ron, and Hermione's sake. If someone were to get hold of you it would jeopardize the mission. Even though it pained you to sit still and wait you would do it for them. And for Remus.
"You're right. You're always right," you laughed softly. Lupin shook his head and chuckled as well, "I don't know about that." Realizing his hand was still on your shoulder, Lupin moved his hand to his lap. You couldn't help but feel a tinge of disappointment. Deciding to be a bold Slytherin you said, "I care about you as well. I would do anything in my power to keep you safe Remus."
It wasn't what you really wanted to say but it was early in your affection for Remus. You wanted your feelings to develop for him a while longer and see what happens. You had always taken a liking to Remus but because you were a student until now you never dared think of him as anything more than a friend. Spending time with him was making you feel otherwise.
"I'm glad you feel that way Y/N," Lupin smiled. You couldn't tell what he meant by that. Was he hinting at something or were just looking into it too much? You didn't want to think it was the latter so you dropped it.
Remus sighed deeply, drawing you out of your thoughts. "The full moon approaches," he whispered. You knew this meant he would start to feel bad soon. Would he be okay? Sensing your worry Remus said, "I have plenty of Wolfsbane. I also have the things to make too. I will leave the house when it's about time so you have nothing to worry about." Although he aimed to reassure you it didn't. It wasn't you that you feared for, it was him.
"Will you be alright?" you asked, trying not to sound too urgent. "Yes. Don't fret, I will be fine," Lupin answered. His response didn't put you at ease whatsoever, but you didn't want to push it.
After a few minutes of silence from you, Lupin picked his book back up and continued to read. You picked one up as well and began to read too.
You completely lost track of time and when you looked out the window it was dark. Remus seemed to realize as well, for he placed his book back on the table and got up. He walked over to the kitchen and began to pull out a pan and a few other items. From your position on the couch you could only see Remus's back. You could hear sizzling and smell bacon.
Soon Remus returned, brandishing two plates. He handed one to you and sat down. He began to eat so you took that as your que to eat as well. You both ate in comfortable silence; the only noises that could be heard was the scrape of a fork against your plates ever so often.
Once you had both finished Remus took your plates to the sink and washed them off. He returned and looked at you, "It seems pretty late. I think I'll be heading to bed." You could tell he was tired and wanted to sleep but didn't want to be impolite and tell you to get up. You stood and told him goodnight, leaving to go to your room.
You laid in bed for a while, mind drifting everywhere. What would you do when this was over? It wasn't like you were going to return to school, you were finished. You would need to find a job. But where would you work? Where would you go? These thoughts plagued you as you went to sleep.
Contradictory to your nap earlier in the day, your sleep was riddled with nightmares. You saw scenes of your parents bodies, although you never saw them dead. You saw the face of Greyback. You suddenly awake, tears streaming from your face. There was a soft knock on the door, "Y/N can I come in?" You tried to quickly wipe your tears, replying with a weak, "Yes".
Lupin walked in and sat next to you on the bed. "You were screaming. I wanted to make sure you were okay," he said softly. You sniffled, "I had a nightmare. It was about my parents and Greyback." Lupin nodded his head and frowned slightly. He didn't like seeing you cry.
"Can I tell you something?" Remus said finally. "Of course," you murmured. "I thought you would avoid me after your parents died. I thought you'd despise what I am," he confessed. "Why would I ever do that?" you asked, suppressing your continuous tears. "Greyback is a werewolf. I'm a werewolf," he spat.
"Remus," you pleaded, "you are not just a werewolf. You are an incredible person. I could never despise you. You are wonderful in every way. You aren't Greyback. Greyback is nowhere near as caring and brave as you." You were afraid you had said too much but before you knew it Remus had wrapped his arms around you. "That means the world to me," he shuddered.
Your heart felt like it would burst out of your chest. You rubbed Lupin's back as his hand came up to stroke your hair. You sat like this for a while before you slowly drifted off.

When you woke up the next morning it was still dark out. You didn't want to wake up Ginny so you carefully gathered your belongings and left the room. Going downstairs you saw Lupin sitting at the kitchen table. He lazily greeted you as you sat down and continued to drink what you assumed was coffee.
Mrs. Weasley handed you a plate of eggs and bacon. You could tell she didn't get much sleep from the rings under her eyes. You ate your food silently and Remus continued to sip out of his mug and watch you.
Once you had finished eating Remus sat his cup down, "Well I guess we'll be off then." You nodded your head. Mrs. Weasley hugged you one last time. "You two be careful now," she ordered. "We will Mrs. Weasley, I promise," you reassured her. You picked up your suitcase and headed towards the front door, Lupin trailing behind you.
Once you had gone a few steps past the door Lupin held out his hand. You took it, shuddering slightly. You noticed how warm his palms were and how long his fingers were too. He squeezed your hand and smiled encouragingly. With a CRACK, you were gone. You opened your eyes to see that you were standing in front of a small but winsome home. You followed Remus inside and put your luggage next to the door. It was indeed cozy, there was a conjoined living room and kitchen with one door leading off it.
"It is not much but we will be safe. I will sleep on the couch and you can sleep in the bed if you'd like. The bedroom is through there," he pointed at the door on the right wall, "and the bathroom connects to the bedroom." You turned from the door to him, "I like it. It reminds me of you."
"Small and shabby?" he chuckled. You felt heat rising to your face, "No! No. It's cute and... warm." Lupin's eyebrows raised, "Oh. Well... thank you." You nodded, looking at the floor. "You're welcome," you murmured. You both stood there, rocking on the balls of your feet. You picked up your suitcase and went to the bedroom, "I'm going to take a bath if you don't mind."
"Of course, go ahead," he coughed. You walked over to the other room and set your things down on the bed. You didn't have much with you so you pulled out a sweater and jeans and headed to the bathroom. Inside there was a bathtub and a single sink.
You were looking around for soap when there was a knock on the bathroom door. "Here I meant to give you this. To wash with," Lupin said. He held out his hands which held two bottles. You took them and said thank you. You quickly bathed and put on your clothes, heading back to the bedroom to unpack. The only possessions you had with you were your wand, three sets of clothes, one of which you had on, your toothbrush, toothpaste, wizard chess, and the chocolate Mrs. Weasley had given you the previous night. You pulled out the container and brought it to the living room.
You noticed Lupin had also unpacked, leaving a stack of books laying on a table and some folded clothes set on the chair next to the couch. "Do you want some?" you asked, holding out the container. "Yes. Here," he patted a spot on the couch next to him, "We can share." You smiled and sat down, putting the dish between you. After a few bites you looked over to the stack on the table, "What books did you bring?"
"Muggle books. I picked these up a while ago. They're quite intriguing actually," he whispered. You laughed at the thought of him bringing along a pile of Muggle books in his suitcase. Lupin seemed like he read serious books about magic and potions. Obviously you were wrong in assuming that. "What?" he asked, looking slightly offended. "You're quite intriguing Remus," you giggled. He leaned back and seemed to consider you for a moment, "In a good way I hope?" You nodded and continued to giggle.
He smiled, and you noticed the wrinkles on the corners of his eyes as he did so. You always felt comfortable around Remus, he was making you feel better even though he didn't know it. You had been trying not to acknowledge the fact that your parents were dead and everyone around you respected that. You felt alone, even though you were surrounded by people. And little by little you were starting to feel like everything would be okay.
You noticed Lupin's eyes trailing all over your face, taking you all in. His eyes met yours once more and you smirked. He coughed and looked back at his books, picking one up. "You see, this one is about vampires. I found that it isn't very accurate but it's interesting to know what Muggles think." He flipped through the pages, not really paying them any attention.
He had fully turned towards you at this point and his knee rested against yours. He didn't seem to notice and if he did he must not have minded. You kept your knee right where it was and continued to look at Remus. He closed the book and set it down on the top of his pile.
"I put a few protective charms around the house so no one should see it or be able to hear anything," he remarked. "That was a good idea," you said, eyes drifting all around the room. You both sat there looking around, not knowing what to say next. You were going to be alone together for who knows how long. That thought made you smile, knowing that you would be spending a lot of time with Remus.
You remembered what you had brought along with you and piped up, "I have wizards chess! Would you like to play?"
"Oh yes, I love wizards chess. Although I'm not very good," he chuckled.
"That's alright I'm not good at it either," you said as you went to your room. You picked up your board and baggie full of pieces and returned to the living room/kitchen. You noticed that Remus had taken off his traveling cloak and was wearing a grey wool sweater. You sat in the same spot you were before, turning sideways and crisscrossing your legs. Remus did the same, although his legs took up much more space than yours.
You put the board between you and handed Remus his pieces while putting yours in their rightful places. You played for about twenty minutes before Lupin had beat you. He looked up through his hair and smiled, "I win." You sighed in defeat, "It seems that you have." You turned your body forwards and leaned your head against the back of the couch. You looked over at Lupin and noticed him looking at you. "What is it?" you asked.
He shook his head, "Nothing. Just reveling in my victory." He laughed and got up. He walked to the kitchen and started shuffling through the cabinets. He pulled out different things and began to put them together. You stayed on the couch watching him. He glanced up at you and continued to work. After a minute he brought over two plates, handing one to you. He had made you both sandwiches. You thanked him and began to eat.
He finished before you and said, "There aren't many things to cook with here. I'll have to go and buy some things from a store around here." You nodded in agreement and finished your food. "Where is the nearest store? How close are we to anyone else?" you questioned.
"Well we're about fifteen miles away from another house and nearly twenty away from a store," Remus answered. You realized how completely isolated you and Remus were from anyone else. The likeliness of anyone finding you were slim to none. You let out a small breath and moved your head in acknowledgement.
Remus stood, taking your plate and moving it to the kitchen. He came back and sat down. You saw his eyelids droop slightly. "Are you tired?" you inquired. "Well, yes a little. But I'll be fine," he told you. "If you're sure," you said doubtfully. You picked up your chess things and returned them to your room. You closed your suitcase and slid it under the bed. You sat down for a moment, really taking in the room. The bed was soft with fluffy pillows, the walls were lined with bookshelves on one wall, and there was a desk on the wall opposite that one.
You sat on the bed for a couple minutes before deciding to return to Remus. When you walked in you saw that he was asleep, sitting up on the couch. You didn't want to wake him so you returned to your room and took a cover off the bed. Quietly going back to the living room you stood next to Remus and draped the blanket over him. You heard him breath in suddenly and you froze. He started breathing normally again and you tiptoed back to your bed. You laid down and quickly fell asleep not realizing how drained you were.

It had been nearly a month since Y/N had woken up in Remus's arms. They had not mentioned or spoken of it. There was nothing to say. In a time of grief for Y/N, Lupin had comforted her. That was all it was. Or that's what it seemed to be to him. You honestly couldn't tell how he felt. He was good at hiding his emotions when he wanted to. But so were you.
The full moon had passed and that day Lupin left. He came back the next night with a few more scratches but other than that he was fine. He didn't mention where he had gone or what had happened.
Days passed quickly and in a blur. You had fallen into a routine at the cottage. You woke up, ate breakfast, read in the living room with Lupin, take a nap, play chess, eat dinner, then go to bed.
No one came near the cottage. The only person you had seen since you left the Burrow was Lupin. You couldn't help but feel a little lonely. Ever since that night he had almost pushed you away or closed you off.
It was at this time in the month that the full moon once again approached. You noticed that Lupin slept longer, yet still had bags under his eyes.
There was an unspoken tension between the two of you. Whether or not Lupin felt it you could not tell. When you were together there was friendly chat or comfortable silence. Although you weren't speaking of that night you still felt like it hung overhead.
Unlike previously, Remus didn't flirt anymore, at least it was what you thought was flirting. Maybe he simply didn't feel anything for you and didn't want to hurt your feelings by leading you on. It was hard to tell how he felt about you.
It was the day after the full moon. Lupin had left after dinner last night and said he would be back sometime today. As expected, he wasn't in the living room when you got up to make breakfast. You stuck to your routine as normal, eating breakfast, reading, napping, lunch, more reading, then making supper for yourself as Lupin had not yet returned.
As you were eating you heard a quick knock and Remus walked in. "Sorry I'm late. I decided to stop by the Burrow. Arthur said the Death Eaters have left your home. If you would like, we could go by tomorrow and you can collect your personal belongings. I imagine the Ministry will be clearing everything out because you haven't come forward to claim the house," Lupin explained.
That was what you had expected. You were the rightful owner of the home since your parents died but you couldn't sign that you accepted it because that meant going to the Ministry. That was simply something you could not do.
"We can leave in the morning. Thank you for telling me," you said curtly. You didn't mean to have a tinge of rudeness when you spoke. You were upset at everything that was going on. Your parents didn't deserve to die, Harry, Hermione, and Ron shouldn't have to put their lives at risk, and Lupin shouldn't shut you out. The ladder was a far less pressing matter but it still bugged you.
Awaking the next day you felt anxious. You were going to your home, the place you had spent so much time with your parents, the place where they died. The emotions swelled up inside you, the feelings of grief coming back over you. You had to be strong for them, they would have wanted you to be. You had to turn your guilt and anger into passion, a passion to avenge them. You pulled yourself together with a new found sense of purpose and went to the living room.

It was a week or so after Remus's attack and you noticed the weather starting to get chillier. Taking full advantage of the last days of summer, you went to the waterfall often and swam when the weather permitted.
It was one of those days where the sun was blaring. You went down to the waterfall and stripped down to your bra and panties. The water was cool and felt good on your skin. You had left Remus in the tent napping and wanted to catch the sunset if possible. You swam around for a bit and floated in the water, not taking any mind to the noises around you.
That was until you heard a few twigs snapping in the direction of the tent. Those weren't the normal noises you heard while out here; you hadn't encountered any animals large enough to snap twigs. You opened your eyes and sank into the water until only your nose and above was out of the water.
Remus was walking towards you. Of course. "Apologies, I didn't mean to startle you." He approached the edge of the water and noticed your pile of clothes. His eyes widened. Did he think you were fully dressed in there? You lightly laughed and stood up in the water; where you stood it only came to your chest. "You should get in, the water feels extraordinary. You won't be able to for much longer, it's going to get colder," you said.
"Oh I don't know... my wound is still healing."
"Your wound has healed really well. It won't hurt you to get in the water," you insisted.
"Well alright."
You turned around and let him have his privacy. When you felt ripples in the water you moved your body back around. Remus was standing in the water too. It stopped at his ribs. You swam backward, away from him, and closed your eyes. Feeling ripples in the water, you knew he was moving around too.
"It does feel nice. Thank you," he said, closer than you expected. You hummed and continued to float around. It was serene and peaceful. After a minute or two you decided to move behind the waterfall. There was a cave-like dip in the rocks behind the cascading water. You went through it and sat up on the rocks. Remus followed and sat next to you. You both stayed there, admiring your surroundings.
That was until Remus spoke up, "It's very beautiful. Is this what you do everyday?"
"Yes, it's calming. It almost makes me forget about what's going on."
You looked at Remus to find that he was already staring at you. His hair stuck to his forehead and he only had on his underwear, but so did you. You dropped your gaze from his body and looked back into the water. You could feel his eyes on you, watching you intently.
Your face heated up and did everything to avoid his gaze. It didn't work and of course you looked at him again. You felt the desire to get closer to him, to feel his skin on yours. What is going on? You shook your head, trying to clear it. "What is it?"
"I- um- nothing just enjoying the view," you happened to be looking at him when you said that. You immediately looked away, hoping that he didn't think you meant him. Even though you half did. Remus was attractive. He was tall, lean, and had a kind face. His hair was beginning to grey from it's natural light brown color but it still looked good. What are you thinking? Remus doesn't think of you that way. Or did he?
You felt flustered. Your thoughts were all over the place. It was normal to think of a man as attractive. Completely normal. But Remus wasn't like any other man. Even if you wouldn't accept it yet, you were starting to feel something towards him like never before. You had denied it a month ago but the affection was poking its way to the surface again.
Needing to cool off, you dived into the water, swimming halfway across the lake. You ultimately decided to get out of the water. You laid on the rocks that surrounded the lake and breathed. That's what you needed to do, breathe. Remus couldn't like you like that could he? He's older, 18 years older to be exact. But you were turning 20 in January. You were an adult.
You were wrenched out of your mind by Remus breaking the water and drying himself off. He stood with his back to you. Your eyes wandered the many scars on his skin. A moment later he had his clothes back on and was looking for a dry rock to sit on. That rock happened to be next to yours. He sat down, legs stretched out in front of him. You decided to sit up too, stretching your legs out and crossing your ankles.
You hadn't dried off or changed back into your clothes yet. You became acutely aware of the fact and crossed your arms over your chest. Remus must have noticed because he quietly chuckled. "You're being quiet," he said.
"I know. I don't want to disturb the peace. Not that you're disturbing the peace..." You were fumbling trying to find something to say. You weren't going to tell Remus you were thinking about him.
"Ah... okay. I thought you were avoiding talking to me," he confessed.
"No. I wouldn't do that. I enjoy talking to you."
"I'm glad. I enjoy talking to you as well."
You both stayed like that for a while before Remus headed inside and you put your clothes on, following after him.

You were slightly taken aback by Lupin's words. Unfortunately you didn't have time to think about it because you were interrupted by a silvery stag charging through the door of the tent. It was Harry's Patronus.
Even if you weren't aware of that fact, you would have been when it spoke, "Y/N, Ron has left us. He's fine, he's just being a git. We aren't doing anything right now and might not be for a while. We've made some headway but we are at a standstill right now. I just wanted to inform you. I will contact you again if we need you. Stay safe."
And just like that it disappeared. Ron left them? He knows how important this is. They must have got something done though. Did they find one of the Horcruxes? Have they destroyed anymore?
Your thoughts were interrupted by Remus, "Well at least they're all right and you don't have to go anywhere." There he goes again. Could he not understand how important the mission was to you? Or why you wanted to be there? You could avenge your parents. You could make the world into the one they wanted to see.
You huffed and turned your back on Remus. He didn't say anything but you could feel him looking at you. You could hear the covers ruffling and turned around to see Remus sitting on the floor next to you. It had slightly startled you and you'd leaned away from him in the process.
"I'm sorry Y/N."
"For what?"
"I know the mission is important to you. You don't think I know that."
"Because you don't act like you know how important it is."
"Your safety is my number one priority. And I was not lying when I said I care about you. I don't want to see you get hurt."
You felt your walls crumble a bit. He cared about you. But ridding the world of Voldemort was worth dying for. Making the wizarding world safe and fair is what your parents wanted. And so do you.
"I think my death is a small price to pay to see You-Know-Who gone."
"That's very noble but your death is a price I'm not willing to pay."
Slowly but surely, your wall was breaking. Why did he care so much? You couldn't help but think that he didn't want you to die because he would feel guilty. People would blame him because he was supposed to watch you. Or does he like you? That was impossible. You were his student. Nothing more. But you couldn't help but feel your body heat up at the thought of being something more.
"I-" you sighed. "If it makes you feel better, I'll try not to put myself in harm's way. But if Harry and Hermione need me, I'm going to help them."
He nodded, "I wouldn't expect anything less." He paused and seemed to think for a moment before resuming, "I can tell why you were put in Slytherin. You are extremely stubborn and determined." And despite the tense atmosphere, he laughed. Of course you laughed too.
He patted your shoulder and told you goodnight. It was hard to stay mad at Remus. He had a very calming aura about him that made you want to listen to whatever he said. Or maybe it was just you.
It was a few days later when Remus had informed you he would be leaving because of the full moon. The night had passed and he didn't return in the morning like normal. It didn't strike you as strange. Maybe this moon was harder on him. By the time it was dark outside he still hadn't returned. You went to sleep expecting he would return anytime soon.
You were awoken by a loud CLANG coming from the other side of the room. The tent was pitch black other than a small lantern that sat on the bedside table. After your eyes had adjusted to the darkness you saw Remus clutching his side and leaning against the counter. You hurriedly got up and made your way over. He was breathing heavily and didn't look at you when you approached.
There was blood coming from in between his fingers. "Remus! What happened? Are you okay?" you rushed. He looked over at you and you noticed how sick he looked. He didn't speak but you could tell something was obviously wrong. You leaned into the side that wasn't hurt and aided him towards the bed. He nearly collapsed as soon as you let go of him.
Now that he was laying down you pulled up the fabric of his shirt and examined his injury. He had a severe gash across his ribs and a bruise on his chest. You had helped out in the medical wing during your time at Hogwarts and had some experience with injuries. It took you a while but you were able to clean the cut and seal it. It would take some time to heal and would probably leave a scar but you noticed Lupin already had multiple littered across his torso.
He began to breathe easier so you took that as a good sign. It seemed like he was going to say something but you didn't want to push him too much.
"Thank," he winced from trying to sit up, "you." You slowly lowered him back onto the bed, not allowing him to get up. "You're welcome. You need to lay down for a while though." You pulled his shirt back down, fingers lightly grazing over his skin. "Do you remember what happened?"
He shook his head. "No. I believe it was an animal though."
"It's pretty rough. It would have been a big animal," you said. He let out a breath of air and nodded again. You were about to get up when Remus grabbed your hand. "Thank you."
He had already said it once but you said, "You're welcome," once again. He didn't let go of your hand and it didn't seem like he was going to. He continued to hold onto it so you decided to scoot over, sitting next to him, back against the headboard. He closed his eyes and layed there, not saying anything. After a few minutes you were consumed by sleep, finally realizing how tired you were.
When you woke up Remus was still lying next to you, hand in yours. You didn't want to disturb him so you grabbed a book from the bedside table and read quietly. Less than ten minutes later he stirred, taking in a deep breath and opening his eyes. He gazed at you and then moved the hand that wasn't in yours to his ribs. "You'll be okay. It just needs time to heal."
"I don't imagine you'll let me out of bed and make breakfast?" he joked. "No, I'm making breakfast. And lunch and dinner. You need to rest." When you stood up, your hand slipped out of his. After holding onto his warm hand for hours, it felt odd not to. You fixed him breakfast and lunch as promised, letting him sit up and leave the bed only to use the bathroom. By dinner he had gained most of his energy back and said he felt much better. Although you were skeptical, you let him get out of bed and sit in a chair.
Noticing he was still wearing the shirt from last night, which was covered in blood, you skimmed through his clothing and picked out a sweater. You handed it to him and turned around, waiting for him to put it on but you didn't hear any movement. "I can't raise my arms up. I hate to ask you this, but could you help me?"
When you faced him he was looking at the floor in front of you, not meeting your eyes. You walked towards him and leaned down, gently pulling up the hem of his shirt. He avoided looking at your face and instead turned his head away from yours. His face had turned a light shade of red and you could feel the heat in yours. He pulled his arms through the holes and you lifted the shirt above his head, leaving him topless.
You had seen his torso last night but at the moment you were too busy trying to fix his wounds. He had scars all over his chest, ribs, and stomach. He was lean too. Apparently you had been staring because Remus looked you in the eye and raised his eyebrows. You gulped and went back to putting a new sweater on him. Every time your fingers touched his skin it felt like electric shocks going through your body. You finished helping him and he told you a quiet "Thank you."
You took his blood-stained shirt and tossed it into the pile of clothes that needed to be washed. That, however, was a job for later.

You and Remus appeared at a small clearing; your home was a short walk away. You went ahead of him, eager to be in your bedroom again.
Not ten minutes later you arrived at the iron gate that surrounded the grounds of your home. You pushed the gate open, it screeched in response to being moved. You slowly moved to the front door, gathering yourself. You pulled out the key you kept in your pocket and inserted it in the keyhole. After it made a clicking sound, you pulled the door open.
A wave of familiarity hit you, the smell of home rushing at you. You could smell the wood polish and lingering smoke from the fireplace. Remus trailed in behind you, looking around. You went to the middle of the common room slowly spinning to take it all in. Your eyes landed on the family portrait right above the fireplace. You couldn't help but smile at your parent's faces looking down at you.
Walking towards your room, you could the plink plink plink of a sink still on in the bathroom. You opened the door to your bedroom, which looked messier than you left it. After grabbing the big suitcase out of the closet, you began to gather some clothes and other personal items. You took one last glance at your room, trying to burn the sight into your memory just in case it was the last time you saw it.
You were about to turn to leave your room when an envelope caught your eye. You picked it up off your nightstand and opened it. It was addressed to you, from your mother. You began to read it.
"Our dearest Y/N,
Your father and I have gotten wind that we are in some trouble. Hopefully all will be resolved, but if not, you will be reading this. You are such a strong girl. We love you very much. You are the light in our lives. I have no doubt that you will be alright without us. It may hurt, but I know you can get through it. No matter what happens, stay true to yourself and stay safe. Even though your father and I won't be there to see you grow older, we are there in your heart. You can get through anything, never forget that. I want you to be happy and so does your father. Don't shut yourself away from everyone. You don't have to bear this burden alone. Find someone that helps you and makes you smile, and takes all the pain away. Stand up for what you believe in and stay strong. I love you more than you could ever imagine and so does your father. Be careful my beautiful angel.
Your mother"
A single tear fell upon the parchment. You quickly wiped your eyes and folded the paper back up, putting it in your pocket. The letter made you feel a lot better. You felt like your parents were watching over you.
Instead of heading back to the common room like you originally planned, you went to your parents' bedroom. At first, you didn't want to go in there. Because of reading the letter, you felt relief. Things would get easier, you thought.
When you stepped into your parents' room, you noticed how much messier it was than yours. Obviously the Death Eaters had gone through everything. There was jewelry scattered on the floor, your mother's jewelry box had been knocked over.
The desk on the far side of the room had papers strewn across it and the drawers were all open. You picked up the papers and put them in a neat stack on the corner of the desk. You ran your fingertips over the dark and smooth wood. Your father sat here for hours a day doing work. He often sat with his reading glasses on, scribbling things on parchment and sending out letters to clients. Your father worked as a lawyer, representing witches and wizards that had to go to court at the Ministry.
You noticed that under the desk lay your dad's spectacles. One of the lenses had cracked and the other was nowhere to be found. You grabbed them and stuck them in your trunk, a reminder of your father.
Moving back near the door, you picked up all the necklaces, bracelets, and earrings that you could find. You stopped when you picked up your mother's favorite brooch. She wore it nearly everyday, even if it didn't match what she was wearing. It was a small silver R for Rose, her name. Father had given it to her before you were born. They had been madly in love since their sixth year at Hogwarts. You envied them. They fit together so perfectly, complimenting each other in every way.
You placed the brooch in your pocket, then left the room, possibly for the last time. Remus had stayed in the common room the whole time. "Are you alright?" he asked.
"Yes. I found a letter. My mother wrote it. It was for me. They knew they were in danger."
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay. I actually feel better. They wanted me to be strong and move on."
"You are the strongest person I know. You aren't alone, you can talk to me. I know I've been a bit quiet lately and I apologize for it. I didn't mean to fall asleep that night and I thought that I had overstepped your boundaries," he admitted.
"Lupin I'm comfortable with you. If you had done something wrong I would have said so. I didn't mind that we both fell asleep. I slept soundly the rest of the night and didn't have nightmares. I owe it to you."
"Well. I should not have assumed," he chuckled.
"Don't worry about it. I have done my fair share of assuming things."
He nodded and held out his hand, waiting for you to take it. You placed your hand in his and with a loud CRACK, you appeared back at the cottage.
The first thing you noticed when you opened your eyes was the open door.

The Great Hall was anything but calm. All of the students had been ushered to the House tables and were listening to Professor McGonagall, who was giving orders left and right. She was explaining that all the students that weren't of age were going to be evacuated for their safety.
When McGonagall had finished speaking multiple students started asking questions. You didn't pay them any mind and instead noticed Harry wandering around the edges of the room. While you were watching Harry a cold and piercing voice seemed to be speaking from all directions.
"I know that you are preparing to fight. Your efforts are futile. You cannot fight me. I do not want to kill you. I have great respect for the teachers of Hogwarts. I do not want to spill magical blood," the voice boomed out, pausing for a second. At first many had screamed but now the Great Hall was silent. "Give me Harry Potter, and none shall be harmed. Give me Harry Potter, and I shall leave the school untouched. Give me Harry Potter, and you will be rewarded. You have until midnight."
The voice ceased. Everyone's gazes turned to Harry. He turned pale and unmoving. The only voice that spoke was Pansy Parkinson, who was seated at the Slytherin table, "There he is! He's right there! Take him!"
You never liked Pansy. She was always talking ill of others and draped herself across anyone willing to listen to her. You had no pleasant memories of Pansy from when you were a student at Hogwarts. "Bloody hell! Just shut it Pansy!" you yelled back. "We are not handing him over!"
She turned to you with a glare but sat back down as all the other tables stood up and pulled their wands towards her. It was a sight to behold. All the houses other than Slytherin had come to Harry's defense.
McGonagall smiled at you and the rest of the Hall and addressed Pansy, "Thank you Miss Parkinson. You and the rest of your house can do the honors of leaving first. Please follow Mr. Filch."
Remus, Kingsley, and the rest of the professors began to devise a plan of attack, dividing themselves up to different areas of the castle and grounds. Remus would be going to the grounds with students and you would be going with him. You were prepared to fight. You could feel Voldemort's defeat coming. You had confidence in everyone around you. Together, you would rid the world of the Dark Lord.
"Are you alright?" Remus asked from beside you.
"Yes. I'm just ready to fight. This has gone on for far too long. I'm ready for him to be gone."
"As I am. Y/N?"
"Yes?"
"I'm going to be with you the whole time. I won't let anything happen to you. I love you," he said. He leaned over and kissed your forehead, lips lingering for a while.
"I love you too Remus. I won't let anything happen to you either. I promise that we're both going to make it out of this."
"I admire your confidence, love."
After all the houses had been evacuated, a few Hufflepuff and Ravenclaws stayed behind, and half the Gryffindors. McGonagall had to pick out the underage Gryffindors that stayed behind and send them away. You had to hand it to them though, they were dedicated to the cause.
Kingsley rose to the front and began to speak, "We've got half an hour until midnight so we must act fast. A battle plan has been made between the Hogwarts teachers and the Order of the Phoenix. McGonagall, Flitwick, and Sprout are going to take fighters up to Ravenclaw, Astronomy, and Gryffindor towers for a good vantage point to do spells. Remus, Arthur, and I will be taking groups to the grounds. We need somebody to set up defense for the entrances of the passageways-"
"That's a job for us!" Fred said, indicating to himself and George. Of course the twins would want to do that. They knew every passageway like it was the back of their hands. When you were at Hogwarts you would sneak around with them and never get caught thanks to the secret passages.
Kingsley nodded and resumed talking, "Leaders up here and we'll divide troops!"
You followed Remus to stand next to Kingsley. The other professors lined up as well. You couldn't help but notice how determined everyone looked. Even Professor Flitwick looked menacing.
Kingsley began to divide the students, sending them to the different groups of adults. You noticed that Neville had been sent to Professor Sprout and Lee Jordan was sent with Fred and George.
Arthur, Kingsley, and Remus had a mixed group made up of mostly Gryffindors. You knew most of them and they acknowledged you as a leader as well, being two or three years their senior. One of the people in your group was Seamus Finnigan, who had been instructed to create explosions, which apparently he did often.
You and the rest of the group began to make your way through the castle, down to the grounds where Death Eaters were trying to get in. Students were following their group leaders throughout the castle as you walked by, getting into their positions. Remus was holding your hand as he led the group and walked briskly down the stairs. He had a determined stride and his eyebrows were furrowed.
Outside, the ground group began to split up, readying themselves for the incoming Death Eaters. Not only were there Death Eaters, there were gigantic spiders coming from the forest as well. You and the rest of the ground troops began to move forward, meeting Voldemort's followers in the middle. People on brooms swooped by overhead, and started to drop bombs on the groups of Death Eaters. You couldn't mistake the leader of the people on brooms, Oliver Wood.
Streaks of light began to pierce and color the air around you. Shouting came from all sides. You were shooting spell after spell at the incoming Death Eaters and spiders. Remus stayed by your side, also shooting out spells faster than you imagined possible. You stayed focused, watching your surroundings. The casualties had already started to rise on both sides. Bodies dropped and the Death Eaters began to converge onto the grounds. You and the others were trying your hardest to keep them at bay, but they wouldn't be held for much longer.
You kept sending out spells as fast as you could, hitting Death Eaters in any spot possible. Shouts of "Expelliarmus! Stupefy!" and "Avada Kedavra!" rang out in the night air. When you looked over you saw Remus dueling a Death Eater that you recognized, Dolohov. No Death Eaters were coming your way, most occupied with fighting others. Dolohov hadn't noticed you so you took the chance to shout out "Expelliarmus!" giving Remus the chance to stun him.
He nodded at you and breathed heavily, moving his eyesight to more incoming enemies. A man was headed straight for you, wand pointed at your chest. You lunged out of the way, the spell shattering a window behind you. Moving in on him, you yelled "Stupefy!" It missed him by inches, which he seemed to find amusing. He cackled and screamed "Avada Kedavra!"
You jumped out of the way just in time, the spell whizzing by your head. You got back to your feet, sending out another spell. That one hit him and he landed on the ground with a thud. As you ran towards the castle, where the Death Eaters were now getting inside, you whipped your head back and forth looking for Remus.
He was engaged in a tight battle. He overpowered his opponent and sent her flying into the wall. An explosion sounded somewhere to your left and rubble flew everywhere. Large pieces of cement fell on top of a few of Voldemort's followers and spiders. The remaining students took a breath, relieved from the hoard of Death Eaters that they were dueling.
The battle had mostly moved inside, Death Eaters working through the crowds of students and teachers alike. They were all a blur as you ran past, followed by Remus, who was panting.
You ran through the doors with him close at your side. Flitwick and Kingsley were already in the halls, each fighting furiously. Neville came into your line of sight, holding an armful of Venomous Tentacula.
You and Remus ran to the Great Hall, seeing a grey werewolf in your path. You had no doubt it was Fenrir Greyback and the sight infuriated you. He saw you and Remus at the same time you saw him. Picking between the two of you he lunged at Remus, sending him to the floor.
It was so sudden you didn't know it had happened. He was on top of Remus, rearing his head back to bite him when he was hit by a spell. His animal form went flying into the wall. He was getting back to his feet when you rushed at him screaming "AVADA KEDAVRA!" You were so filled with rage you felt no remorse seeing his limp, grey, werewolf body. After all, he deserved it for all he had done. He had killed and harmed many people, including your parents.
Overhead you heard Professor Trelawney shout, "Well done! That bastard deserved it!" She hurried away, holding crystal balls in her arms. She threw them with incredible force and then used her wand to direct them through the windows.
You ran over to Remus, who hadn't moved from the floor. You fell to your knees beside him. He didn't move when you shook him. Tears began to fill your eyes, "Remus? Remus! Remus wake up! WAKE UP!"
